Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead troop Borge Radio Network on six point thirty
w LAP.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught, coming to
you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Good morning, guys. The sun has come up today. It
is a brand new day and I'm happy to be here.
(00:34):
How are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Larry Vaught, I'm wonderful.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Had a good weekend high school football on Friday night
and had a huge high school across country invitational here
on Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon that I went and
watched probably close to one thousand runners. I don't have
any spectators. And then my grandson's middle school team won
a big game.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Up at Ryle last night. So all that was really good.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
That sounds really really good. And before we get into
all this football talk, because this is going to be
an interesting statement, Larry Vatt our volleyball team are skinners. Winners,
had number one on the rope, and do you know
there's only been two matches one against us thus far
this season, only two matches, three matches.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I mean you mean sets?
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Sets? Yeah? Sorry, yeah, sets.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
They they've played very, very well, big win at Penn State,
defending national champion and went in there and just really
really impressive. It's interesting the depth the Craig Skinner has hand.
It's interesting that for the last eight years he's only
played two setters and four matches.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
End of this season, he's already played two setters.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
See, and we had you kind of left off. We
had number one Nebraska on the ropes down to zero.
Took to I took to social media, and I think, yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
You've got a little giddy right there. Well it was two.
Oh you forgot. It's got to get the three to zero.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
But I was trying to anticipate and want I want
to be the first one on the bandwagon. So I
think I messed it up. Sorry Coach Skinner, but I
think that sets you guys up. I think that set
us up. It's gonna be a pretty interesting season. Jack Pilgrim,
I don't know if you're into volleyball or football. How
is your weekend?
Speaker 6 (02:27):
Oh, volleyball is amazing because you're leaving out the big news.
They went to Penn State and pulled off the upset.
Penn State hangs their twenty twenty four National Championship banner
and Kentucky goes in there and Curb stomps them. It's
an absolutely unbelievable performance for Craig Skinner and the Cats
going in there and sweeping them place that they haven't
(02:49):
lost in I mean, unbelievable number of matches for them
to put on that type of performance in that type
of stage, imediately coming off that Nebraska laws where you know,
it could could have been such a deflating, heartbreaking kind
of thing because they did have Nebraska on the ropes
and you know, got the reverse sweep to you know
(03:10):
kind of I want to say choke, but you had
it and then you let it slip away. And then
to have that emotional response to go in and you know,
absolutely dominate, you know again, another top five team in
the country hanging the national championship banner on their home
home floor is about as good as it gets. And
then you know, not another emotional let down the day
after going in and then you know, taking care of
(03:33):
business once again to go to and O on the weekend.
So yeah, things are are absolutely incredible in Craig Skinners world,
and he's got another national championship contender.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
And Jack Pilgrim. We had a football game yesterday. It
started at three point thirty PM, right in the middle
of the day. That means it's not a very early start.
You can get done with the game, or you can
go home and watch other games, or you can celebrate
a little bit. But our Kentucky Wildcats fail to Old
Miss thirty to twenty three, and there's mixed emotions. I
(04:04):
watched the game again this morning and I got my stance,
which we're going to talk about throughout the show. But
I just want to know because on social media, I
think you kind of I don't know, you didn't have
a whole lot of faith, and I don't think that
you really respected that win. Or don't you respect Old
Miss so you don't respect our staff. I just want
(04:26):
to give you a chance to tell how do you
really feel at the conclusion of the game, because most
of this was around the third quarter.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
Yeah, I think we're not going to be seeing eye
to eye today. And I hope nothing I say. I
hope you don't take anything I say personal, and I
won't take anything you say personally, but I don't think
we will be seeing eye to eye on how this
performance unfolded. I think it was an absolute embarrassment. I'm
tired of Brad White having to do everybody's job and
(04:57):
keep things respectable and and you know, carry away to
the world on his shoulders, while everybody else just absolutely
especially on the offensive end, and you know, leading up
top with good old Mark Stoops. I think there's a
lot to be concerned about if you're Kentucky fan, and
we will absolutely be digging into the end of that today.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
And Larry Vaught, how do you how did you feel
about the win? Are you more? I know you said
it was going well at this point. This only really
should take you two games from what you saw, because
I don't think the Eastern Michigan is going.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
To sway you either way that we have a bibeac
after that.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
By that time we're almost a third through the season
or a quarter through the season. So after seeing two games,
Larry Vault, what do you stay in your optimism or
bandwagon stamps bad loss, good loss.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
I'm gonna go into the bad loss category because you
did enough things well to probably win a game, but
you offset that by doing enough things not well to
coast game. And I think I'm kind of on the
same track as it's Jack a little bit. Some of
the game management and clock management was just atrocious and
(06:09):
I don't understand how that can that can happen, and
those and they just did enough of those things to
just really really frustrate you. And again, the passing game
just leaves a lot to be desired on a consistent basis.
And after two games, as I told you, I was
(06:30):
worried about that going in and I've not seen anything
yet out of what they've done with the passing game
from the quarterback spot or the receiver spot really to
make me think, well, they're going to be okay over
the course of twelve games, and some of the fiascos
they had with their just game management and game organization.
(06:51):
I mean, Anthony, I was watching the game with my
eighth grade grandson is getting ready to play, and a
couple of times he looked at me and said, man,
if we did what they just did, our coaches will
make us run for an hour. I think this is
an eighth grader saying that, So I don't know what
was going on on the offensive side. Of the ball,
but they got to get theirselves together there.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
I will say this, I feel as if, and this
is a surprising part. You talked to bush Hampton a
lot even this off season once it became the talking
season for him, because we wanted, you know, anybody to
speak up about the team, and I think everybody was
kind of questioning what bush Hampt had had of his
sleeve because the offense was so bad. I will start
off with saying, I think our offensive line has gotten
(07:33):
better because I gave a wolf A a lot of
flat over the past year. But the offensive line is
an SEC offense line. We can win with those guys.
Are they great? Are they the old school big blue wall?
Absolutely not, but they are at least a wall that
may not be big and blue, but there is a
wall there. The things that concern me Larry Vault and Jack.
(07:54):
He wants to run tempo, but and you saw how
it Temple and Lane and Lane is a mastery at
the tempo. But you see how the Temple affected our
defense a little bit as the game were on. But
I don't understand if Bush is always talking about running tempo,
wants to run tempo, is he not running tempo because
the head coach doesn't want to run tempo. But on
(08:14):
the reverse side of it, you want to run tempo,
yet you're getting delay of game calls or up against
the clock and using stupid timeouts. But I want to
I kind of go ahead, Larry.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
No, that's gonna say, prove preach it.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
You'd You're on a good track, I think, Jack and
I'll be on board with you.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I'm here with you, guys, said, I think I'm trying
to explain some things. That's what that's kind of why. Uh,
I think it's gonna be more therapeutic today. And this
is you tell me if you guys are on board
with this. And Mark Stoops keeps bumbling around, not really
particularly answering what happened at the end of the half.
My scenario from what I see that the headsets went
out and now Zach is kind of uh uh erratic
(08:55):
at this point, like I can't even get the calls,
so he runs to the sidelines so they can give
him the but you know the next play that the
headsets still aren't working. So you still because you can talk,
he can talk to him like on the field and
have him give adjustments, which I'm honestly, it didn't really
work a whole heck of a lot in the first
half either, But the fact that right at the two minutes,
(09:16):
I think that is more why the clock was running down,
because he couldn't get the calls and the headsets went out.
Mark Stoops alluded to that the first time, but in
the press the post game he didn't say that, and
other times he was asked, he didn't say that. He
just said it was bad management. Maybe he was just
taking it, maybe he was just taking it across the
chain for the coaches. But here's the thing, Larry and Jack.
(09:38):
At that level, I know we didn't have the microphones
like they do now back in our day, as good
as they are now, but you have hand signals. But
maybe they were not prepared to use hand signals and
they don't do that anymore. So I'm not sure why
the quarterback had to run to the sideline to get
the play. And I obviously don't want to just yell
to play out across the field so the defense can hear.
(09:59):
But I think you result when you find out that
the headsets aren't working, you got another play come up.
I think you result to hand signals, Larry Jack Pilgrim.
If you don't result to hand signals, you can just
run a receiver in like they do in high school,
take a receiver out, run a receiver in, or just
switch back. It ain't like you got a hell of
a lot of time. There's only a man and left
(10:20):
on the clock or less, so you get the guys
in and out that way. But I do think there
was a malfunction with the communication and the headsets, and
I think everybody just kind of scattered and no one
really just and we didn't have the timeouts to use.
So I don't think everybody anybody stepped up to the
play and devised a plan, which at this level that
(10:41):
shouldn't happen. Jack Pilgrim, you buy into that or you
say you think is inexcusable if your headsets go out.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
Yeah, inexcuseable. I don't care.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
I totally understand. But this is a process that should
have been starting back last winter when you're doing the
initial in star, you know, getting the roster build in,
kind of laying the vision of what this is all
going to look like. Then you get to the spring
and you actually get to do it on the field,
and then you get to the summer with the workouts,
and then you get you know, fall camp, and you
(11:12):
got to get the build up and you know, the
full month leading up that's where you work out. Like
it should be just a communication and a chemistry thing
where you know that you know your guys like the
back of their hands. You shouldn't need to be relying
on like you know, a teenager driving down the road
with their GPS and their phone dives. Oh I could,
I guess I'm just lost forever. No, we should have
(11:34):
some type of you know, way of navigating life without
the technology and being able to Okay, well, yeah, who
cares about the technology. We can go hand signals or hey,
how about the seventh year quarterback who was brought in
to be mister experience. Oh my gosh, man, the poison
This guy well he's not doesn't have the highest ceiling,
(11:55):
but man, is floor so high? He looked like that.
You know, Larry, I think I would trust your grants
at your eighth grade grandson more than Zach Calzada, the
way he was panicking and just overwhelmed by the moment.
As the seventh year veteran who is the oldest guy
on the football team. It was embarrassing watching that operation
at the end of the half, at the you know,
(12:17):
every single possible moment where Kentucky could have taken advantage
of an unbelievable cushion of the defense gave. What a
start by Ty Bryant, What a start by the defense
to get off the field and do his job. Force
three and outs, the three you know, third down conversions.
Just an unbelievable cushion that the defense gave, and so
many people up top failed failed. That defense led by
(12:41):
Zach Calzada, led by Mark Stoops, led by Bush Handen.
Where the operation headsets or not, I don't care. You
shouldn't look like you just put together the team at
the park on a Saturday morning and we're trying to
figure out on a fly. It was an absolute joke
what that operation was. And yeah, I don't buy the
the headset thing. It's an excuse, it's it. I don't
(13:04):
believe it for whether it happened or not. I don't
buy that a team should be that out of sorts
because of a simple malfunction that every team deals with
on a Saturday with some point or another.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
That is Jack Pilgrim. We will continue this show after
this Year're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday one in sports
Talk on news radio six thirty WLP.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Borde Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday one in Sports Talk. I'm
Anthony White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught. Stockyards
Bank is your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four,
so head on over to syb dot com for all
your banking and financial needs. We are talking or venting. Uh,
(13:57):
I guess just discussing the Old Miss Kentucky game yesterday
where Old Miss beat Kentucky thirty to twenty three. A
lot of people are upset. I'm not really upset. I
think the game is a football, is a game of anus.
I think it's a game of opportunities taken care of.
I think the dysfunction A lot of people are concerned
(14:19):
about that. Obviously Jack is because he was concerned about
that for about three minutes straight right there. And I
think Larry Vaught and people on social media cheering him
on because they agree with him. Before we get to
Clark's pumping shop phone line, Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim.
Larry Vaught, Mark Stoop's set, he alluded to that we
(14:41):
probably won't see Zach comes out of next week, and
it will be Cutter Bowli. He didn't know what the
extent of the injury was, and I think his reasoning
that he didn't think we would see Cutter or Zach
was because of the injury, not because of anything that
transpired during the game. Do you think that we he's
at next week at all? And do you think that
(15:03):
Mark Stoops makes a decision to go with the youngster
and start to, you know, get him developed.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
He was thrown in.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Cutter Bowley was thrown in the game in the fourth
quarter lat and the fourth quarter a pivotal moment of
the game. That has to be some big shoes to feel.
I know Jack Pilgrim thinks it's easy because they don't
need the GPS. You've played football since you were seven,
six or seven, so you should know how to handle
this pressure. But I don't completely agree. But I thought
Cutter showed some some mocks. He showed some good stuff.
(15:34):
Then he also showed these kind of young. And I
also think he doesn't get help from the offensive coordinator
or the quarterback coach because I think they weren't prepared
for some of the pressures they were going to get.
Some of the players that were called, they just kind
of seemed a little step slower or they hadn't practiced
any of this stuff. So, Larry Vaut, do we see
Cutter Bowley after next week? Or do you think Mark
(15:57):
Stukes makes the decision to make a change.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I think you've better seen this next week. I think
they've got to make a change and just find out
can cut Her do the things that Zach hadn't been
able to do so far?
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Or is it more of.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
A offensive system failure and receiver failure and all? But
I think you got to give Cutter a chance to
see what he can do, and this would seem to
be the perfect week to do it. It's against a
nine sec opponent and you have a week off after that,
so I think you've got to go with that. And
if I believe the words I heard Mark Stoops tell
(16:32):
Tom Leach as I was listening on the post game show,
was a Cutter deserves an opportunity? Well, I would think
if the head coach as he deserves an opportunity that
he ought to get the opportunity would be the way
I would interpret that without a whole lot of reading
into it. And I thought, yeah, Cutter came in a
couple of play calls. I didn't quite understand what they did,
(16:52):
and I thought there was one time that maybe he
did have law open and he either didn't seem or
just didn't have the to seem. I couldn't really tell
from watching at my angle whether that was the case
or not. But again, I think you've got to give
Cutter a chance, because I mean, Zach just hasn't well,
(17:13):
hasn't been as good as what some people kept telling
me he was gonna be. And on the other hand,
he's been just like what some others were telling me
he was gonna be. So I think with all you
heard about how well Cutter was playing through all of
August and all like that, I think now's the time to
find out is he the quarterback of your future or not.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
If Cutter comes in and does the things he do
that he was doing, If he comes in and he throws,
he throws the the gets the PI on the deep
down sideline, get a rip off, a nice run. If
he hits that cross the rout in the back of
the ends and he hadn't thrown, he hadn't warmed up.
You know, he comes in and he was just over there.
I mean it was poorly, very overthrown by like a
(17:52):
step in halfs which is a lot for a college quarterback.
But if he connects that, or we don't drop that
tight end, or we don't have the tight end doesn't
drop the ball when he's moving the chains, it's a
whole different story. So I am I am with you
on that, Larry Vaut. But Jack Pilgrim, you hold on
because I got to get over the Clark's Pumper Shop
phone line and see what Larry has to say. Good morning, Larry,
what do you got for us?
Speaker 7 (18:13):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (18:14):
Before I get Onknsentuckuty Football almost talk to Larry Earth.
So Larry last week, I mean, I was glad to meet.
I just don't show a lot of motion. Andy thought, Well,
I wasn't excited. But you know anyway, Larry, you know
it did the buster Dan will win this Weekken.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
They did.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
They scored forty one points and one down at Anderson County.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Anderson County well, we beat warsh Cowny, but I like
to put a plug into warsh County. They got some
of the best facilities I think. I think for Sue
at a small I mean they were amazing. Some of
the turf they say out there. I mean it was
a brand new skills I think headed last year, but
the first time I've been in there. But I'm gonna
put a plug in for warsh County people overre that
was really a we won the game, but anyway, be
(19:00):
undefeated too. But anyway, I'm getting to Kentucky as first.
You know, I've watched a lot of SEC they're staying
and I'm sitting there thinking if we slipped to the
bottom of the SEC now, I thought Missisi State, you know,
they pulled one out last night that was amazing, and
I seen where Vandy won pretty good. You know who
(19:20):
the exact the player I can't remember, probably wouldn't probably
get what we played, but it seems like that we
may be to the bottom. Yeah, well we're probably at
the bottom of the SEC now trying to work their
way back. You know. And a few years ago everybody
was saying we passed all these teams and somewhere along
the line. I don't know where we messed up or
what happened there. I guess when our offensive line coach
(19:43):
passed away. Seems like that's when things went hayward. But
you know, we got this reviving door of quarterbacks and
since Levis, I mean, I'm just not impressed at all.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
We got to get to a break. Sorry to do
that to you up against a hard break, you have
to get to a break. And we were going to
discuss quarterbacks because we want to get Jack Pilgrim's thoughts
on how we're going to move forward at the University
of Kentucky. We will be back after this year. Listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news radio
six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the Lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White,
along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim. This hour of
Sunday Morning Sports Talk has brought to you by Country
(20:34):
Boy Brewing.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Guys. I don't know how much talking we're going to
get to do today, but I did get an email
from someone listening. They had too many characters to type,
and they expressed that they support me in my opinion
that we need support the team and the guys are
out there playing hard. He's been around for years. He's
watched a lot of football since the sixties, just like
Larry Vaud has, and he's seen some really bad football.
(20:58):
Is it disappointing some of his discouraging, yes, but he
doesn't think this team deserves us to beat him down
and jump off the bandwagon. And they still deserve our
support because this is not as bad as UK football
has been. Now I'm not on the same level as Larry,
not Larry Vaut but Larry from lebnon who who think
(21:18):
we fell to the bottom of the sec because Old
Miss is not a terrible team. But he also goes
on email also goes on to say, and this is
the biggest part of the email that I took away,
that the half of the fan base was down on
this season before the season even started. I'm not certain
that anything happens this season's gonna change their mind just
because the fan base just started off so negatively. So
(21:42):
no matter if we would have beat Old Miss, I'm
not certain that would have made anything oh well, oh
this is not that good not only thing that probably
would have made our fan base happy. If Old Miss
would have beat us sixty to ten, then they might
have may have seemed like, yeah, we've fallen off, but
we lose a tight one to a really good offense.
You know, a lot of own head of things be
frustrated about the bonehead. Call Mark stoops out, call out
(22:04):
our office at bush Hampton. As we get in the show,
there were some opportunities there for Zach Cutter did come
in and show that he can move the ball a
little bit. So I'm kind of interested how this thing
moves forward. But everybody who's already out of the out
of it, I don't know. I think it's a little premature,
but I understand. So the email says, we should give
(22:27):
these guys some chance, give them their flowers. Let's get
to the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line and see what
John Short has to say. Good morning, John Short, what
do you got for us?
Speaker 9 (22:37):
Okay, yellow gray rings?
Speaker 7 (22:39):
Well who that good game is?
Speaker 9 (22:40):
See what will bounce back? And we'll be just Michigan
back thirty five Biggins coming Saturday, So will bounce back well,
we have a great season and still believement to touchball playoffs.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Yeah, one lost won't keep you out of the playoff.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
You're right, we still got a chance, John Short, What
else you got for US fotball.
Speaker 9 (23:00):
Team to defeat Pennsylvania State? Fride, I already say Pennsylvania
say to the Pennas State. Just gonna say the whole state.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
That is funny. You one of the only people out
here say that. And I find it tickling every time
you say Pennsylvania State. I'm gonna I'm gonna add that
to my vocabulary.
Speaker 9 (23:15):
The ready wins three games and nothing, and we play
and then we won, Yes, stream volleyballs and we did.
We play fix for you coming Wayne?
Speaker 5 (23:22):
See Pittsburgh.
Speaker 9 (23:25):
Yes, Instilly tournaments, they can't tell them us.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
ESPN is six thirty against Pittsburgh. We got we gotta,
we gotta get some revenge, right.
Speaker 9 (23:36):
That's tract I get some revenge? Is that for? It's
not playing at Picksford or is that playing in Lanton?
I don't think it's playing any of those.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Fort Worth, Texas is in Fort Worth, Texas? Yes? What else?
You well?
Speaker 6 (23:52):
John?
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Sure, we're gonna We're gonna move along because our phone
lines are lit up, but we appreciate the call, and
thank you for the optimism here that Jack and Larry
John Short has my back. Well, he has faith we're
gonna make the college playoffs. Let's stick. Let's stick with
the phone lines and see what Bluegrass has to say.
What do you got for? Is bluegrass?
Speaker 7 (24:12):
What's going on with fellas? Before I get started on this,
I want to thank Jack Jack.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Every week.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
I just can't wait to watch another episode of Sources
say man. And I've never got a chance to holler
at you on here, so I figured I'd start just
conversation off a little bit positive. How about it?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Keep it positive? Don't just start it off positive, and
don't let Jack bring you down.
Speaker 7 (24:32):
I just can't if you can't tell, If you can't tell,
I'm for Measter Kentucky, you know, and I'm a hard
working man, but you know, to get my family down there,
we got to get up early in the morning, we
got to spend money. We go down there and we eat,
and you know, I'm I want to see some good football.
I want to see my coaches cut players in best
position to succeed. Did you see that yesterday? I'm not
(24:54):
unming this on the players. I'm just saying, we're not
putting our players in the best position to succeed.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Fellas I did one side of the Bluegrass.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
I did see that on one side of the ball.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
So yeah, but it's all right, all right, our defense
played all right, I got you there. We're all right.
But it's the same thing we're paying Mark students to
be a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 10 (25:15):
People.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
He's never been an offensive guy, you know that. And
it rears its ugly head that time management every single
game that we have.
Speaker 5 (25:25):
A chance to win.
Speaker 7 (25:26):
People, I'm just so frustrated that when I went back
and watched it again, and you know what I when
I watched the film, when I got out of it
a week closer to basketball, That's what I got out
of it. When I watched the football game again week
closer to basketball.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Come on, well, I'm not totally against you, Bluegrass, but
if you don't have anything else, you got anything else
for us.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
But I'm just telling you the fans will quit common people,
because I can't afford to come down there and watch
bad football.
Speaker 10 (25:56):
I can't.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
I want to go. I need rewarded every now and
then I'm driving down there, and I'm thinking, what is
he going to do this time? What are we going
to do this time? Like we have to be we
have to be more positively, We'll put up put our
players in better position to succeed. That's it. That is simple.
Every basketball coach, every football coach, every volleyball coach, where
(26:19):
they all do the same thing, and we're not doing that.
And if you can say, if you can actually tell
me that, then I'll maybe I'll shut up Bluegrans.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Let me ask you this really quickly before where we
concluded his call, Let me ask you this. Say say
Cutter Bowley comes in and he had some opportunity, DT
had an opportunity in the back of the end zones,
tight end, drop the ball on third down.
Speaker 9 (26:37):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
If we say Cutter Bowley comes down and scores, we
tie the game up and go on to overtime and win.
And I know that didn't happen, and that that's but
if we won it type game like that or overtime
or somehow kick the field goal to win because our
kicker has a heck of a leg and we win
that game, are you do you feel still like it
shouldn't have been that close? Because the play was had
(27:00):
been sloppy up until it was Han's been sloppy the
whole game offensive.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
But we had a chance to win.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
So if we pull it off yet the game was
sloppy like that, do you still have the same taste
in your mouth.
Speaker 7 (27:12):
If we found a way to win, then we found
a way to win. But if a frog had wings,
you know how that goes right, right, So it's just
I don't like seeing us go backwards when we're in
field goal range, like that's just embarrassing. And I get it.
We got a headsets, but every team had dealt with that.
Sometime within the year, it will it will happen and
they don't go back thirty yards.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Come on, but Bluegrass, thank you. I'm done, thank you,
all right, thank you?
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I do Jack, we ain't heard from you in a
second before we get back to the phone line, I'm
gonna let you respond to a little bit.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
And I do.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
I do get the frustration I forgot about us being
in field goal range and getting out of field goal
range just because uh, and it does got the Keystone
some of it. At times we did look like the
Keystone cops, and that is that does have to be
embarrassing Jack.
Speaker 6 (27:59):
Yeah us off the Bluegrass shout out, A big, big
fan of that call from start to finish, and appreciate
the kind of words, but I don't want it in
going back to the email that you got as well
those two the email in that call, I want to
stress that Bluegrass is where I'm coming from in the
(28:20):
sense that I'm I'm doing this for the fans that
have gone to Kroger Field and seen nine straight Power
Conference losses, putting their hard hard earned money and time
and resources into this football program and getting nothing out
of it. It's it's it's a it's a full support
for the players, like I don't want it to ever
come across that, uh you know the players are you know,
(28:44):
stink and that you know I don't support them and
I'm rooting for the players to fail like that isn't
that just couldn't be further from the truth. Because I
agree with with Bluegrass. I think they are in put back,
put in bad spots to succeed, and I feel sorry
for the players. I don't feel that, you know, I'm
(29:05):
my direct criticisms are coming at the people up top
that are putting these guys in bad positions, and you know,
the operation and just the lot you know, the continuity
we talk about with Mark Stoops and you know, the
the push to bring back you know Bush Hampden and
you know because of just the only reason why we've
(29:25):
talked about him coming back for another season without really
having anything to show for it in terms of offensive
production is just the value of continuity. But we're seeing
more of it is continuity, more bad operation. And you
saw Stoops talk about you know, it's inexcusable and how
the end of the you know end at first half
the yakty facts and get you know, trying to get
in field goal position was just an absolute joke like
(29:47):
that wasn't on the players. That was a direct line
of you know, miscommunication from the coaching staff with with
Bush and Stoops. And I'd feel bad for the players.
And I feel that, you know, the are on the
same page as the players where we are rooting for
the players to succeed, but they're not getting that help
from up top.
Speaker 9 (30:06):
So I.
Speaker 6 (30:08):
Feel for the people that show up and spend their
hard earned money and are getting absolutely nothing out of it. Now,
since twenty twenty three, we haven't seen a win at
Kroger Field against a team with a pulse, and I
just think that it's not fair to be fans.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
I can get behind that.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
I can get Let's get back to the Clark's Puppy
Shop phone line, because we could be Florida, Jim, you
could be the University of Florida right now, we're not.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
What do you got for us? Jim?
Speaker 10 (30:36):
My big disappointment is, I don't know whose idea it was.
Why are our fans chanting blue white when their defense
is on the field, when the other team has a
quarterback and a center making their first SEC road start.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
I was out of the stadium, you saying why were there?
Why weren't they?
Speaker 10 (30:59):
Why are they chanting blue white instead of just screaming
and making all the noise they can?
Speaker 5 (31:07):
That is true, I got you. That is something I
think that is something.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
That's typically orchestrated by the stadium as well, Like you
got people the cheerleaders or because the cheerleaders are the
ones who start the blue white, aren't they.
Speaker 10 (31:19):
They've never done it had a football game before this year.
They did it the first game. In this last game,
you're allowing the other team's offense to hear their plays.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
I got you.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
I understand. Did you go to the stadium.
Speaker 10 (31:37):
No, I can't go this year. I'm in a wheelchair.
But I've gone. You know, I've seen it all through mummy,
even back before that coach Curry. But we've never chanted
blue white at a football game, unless it's a time
out or something.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
I got you.
Speaker 10 (31:56):
They're doing an actual game, and that's a oh I
got man. I just think somebody would stop it.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
I agree with that that I can't.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
I can't think of a worse cheer during the football
game than blue white.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
I mean, that's just I'm with him.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
I'm totally with it, because that just just a pause
in between. It's not very loud. That's that's if that happened.
I wasn't there, but I want to take his word.
If that happened, it's a horrible thing to be doing.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Thanks for the call, Jim. I agree, I should, I think,
And that is something you really kind of take into account. Uh,
that you got a young quarterback. I mean we he
already started the game off Rattle, got a little injured.
Then we brought another quarterback in that was inexperienced, and
you know, the game was not well in hand. That
(32:43):
maybe the fan base could have put a little bit
more infinite, But I don't. I don't know, Larry Va,
if you believe that that is something that the fan
base you just know to do, or is that something
that the field managers or whoever whatever the people are
kind of instruct the fans to do, I think.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
You've got to encourage because at that time, I think
late in the game, I think fans.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Were pretty discouraged that he did.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Probably a little somebody to help pump it up a
little bit right there for them and blast the music
or whatever whatever it takes. Because with Mark, we're talking
about Mark Stoop's operational issues, but there's also from everybody
that I've talked to and seen in the last bit,
there's a lot of operational issues with the stadium the
(33:28):
way they do things too there. So it's just not
a great situation. I mean, I have my buddy send
me pictures. First time in a long time I can
remember the r V lot not being filled.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Oh wow, I didn't know it wasn't it was a lot.
You said it was it was sparse, or you just
said it wasn't filled.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Check out Dave Hopewell's Twitter account and you'll see by
by game time it looked better. But look at what
it was early in the morning compared to what you
would think.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
It would have been.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
That is an interesting concept because they're trying to entertainment.
If the fan base isn't coming out of support, the
funding for that entertainment area venue close to the stadium
is going to be an interesting concept.
Speaker 11 (34:13):
It was actually a good crowd last night. But let
me say this. You know there are operational issues. When
the all Miss fans turns around to me and says,
why are we hearing the same songs over and over?
Speaker 5 (34:26):
You know it's bad.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
You know you know what we need, Anthony, We need
our own We need our own Connor stallions to go
somebody from UK Athletics to go to every single other
opposing SEC venue and take notes. Just just buy a
ticket where you know a generic SEC football had, Like
we saw Rob Low wearing an NFL cap at that
(34:51):
football game at one time, they do the exact same thing.
Have just a generic fan representing UK Athletics go from
venue to venue to venue on Saturday and just watch,
just just take notes and bring it on home the
cover field and let's let's just hit hit redo going
into the mean Potato to the SEC scheduling.
Speaker 11 (35:10):
So the ole Miss fans did tell me that in
Oxford the music is very similar to what they're playing
at Commonwealth.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
I do like Jack's I do like Jack's theory. I
think I like Jack's idea. Maybe I need to work
on that.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
But the only other part of that is you do
have to the fans or the product does have to
be exciting, or you have to give some excitement for
people to cheer. I don't think they just cheer without reason.
But we will continue this conversation after this break. You're
listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday one in sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLP.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Forge Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Welcome back Stockyards Banks Sunday Morning sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vought. Larry Vought and Jack Pilgrim.
Let's head over to Pumpy Shot phone lines really quickly
and get time in here and good morning time.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
What do you got for us?
Speaker 12 (36:09):
Warning JAILM.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
I have a couple of points.
Speaker 12 (36:11):
First of all, I mean can't. Defense was amazing. You
start off, you know, the electricity in the field. I
think the fans came be prepared to cheer them on.
And I don't live in the States, so I watched
it from TV. But I mean, it just seems like
our quarterback has the processing power of a nineteen eighty
personal computer. And I mean in that end of the
(36:33):
end of the end of the half, independent of the
you know stignols, et cetera. You know, when you're two
years from collecting Social Security, you should be able to
make that play and figure out how to get everybody
on the same page. So anyway, when you look at
our offense, it's you know, nightmare on Elm Street thirteen
dot zero. And you know, I feel like now with
(36:56):
our offense, we should just put leather helmets on our
players and let them go out there, because I mean,
that's about the antiquators are often to. And lastly, I
think this is a great marketing opportunity for Cornbread him.
You know, the anxiety in the stadium. They should have
a sales there stand there because I think they would
sell out. But again, you know, they just lost the
(37:19):
fan base. You could tell, and you know when Kyle
Zona was just all over the place. I mean, I
don't think even the cheerleaders. I don't even think the
cheerleaders cheered. So last point here is, I've won the lottery.
I've taken the money immediately to buy out Stoops's contract
and bring in summer. All but all those points, theoretically,
do you think some are all is like an amazing coach.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
I absolutely think some are All's amazing coach. He's made
a lot of comments down in the Louisiana area that
that's where he wants to be. He's happier, he doesn't
want to go anywhere. Thanks for the call of time.
We've got to get up against up against the break anyways, But.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
I I.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Understand what Tom is saying. And I don't even think
Jack or larryouts either one is will defend what Thom
has said, because I do think the frustration all the
things he said before, if he had the lottery, he
will buy out Mark Stoops. And that uh that some
are alls the answer, I'm not sure if some are
(38:24):
all the answer, and all that everybody's in a hurry,
and this is gonna cost up a bunch of money,
but any everybody in a hurry to buy out Mark Stups.
I understand some of these things need to get fixed.
I don't know if Mark Stoops is ever going to
fix some of the operational problems that we have on
our team, because the players are playing hard. We got
good payer, we have good players, We've had good assistant coaches.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
But I think.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Whatever inconsistency we have on the offense may come between
Mark Stoops being a defensive mind to coach and the
offensive coordiner is not having autonomy. Most of them don't
stick around for a long time. I'm just not quick
to pull the hook on Mark Stoops because of what
he's done for the university. And the reason people are
upset and angry or frustrated is because our expectations have
(39:11):
raised over the past thirteen years. The expectations are so
high that seven or eight wins ain't even enough, even
if that's a preseason expectation. So we'll talk about that
when we come back. You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday
morning sports talk on news radio six thirty WLAB
