Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Jack Pilgrim, whenever you're on the right side of the
win column, everything is always good. I don't care if
it's the one hundred and thirteenth franked team in the
nation or if it's the number one team in the
nation that you beat. A win is a win, because
if you lose, everybody hates it. Last week, everybody hated
those things, but we made some adjustments and things went well.
(00:31):
I want to I don't want to take the steam
away from the wind, but there are some concerning things
to me I do want to discuss because I know
we only have you for another thirty minutes and the
two things I kind of want to discuss where there's
three things I want to discuss on Larry Vauden and
I will continue to discuss these after you leave. But
the while I have you, Culter Bowley got an opportunity
(00:52):
to display what he can do. Now, mind you, last
year he had an opportunity to display what he can do.
Some some were good, somewhere bad. I don't know if
you know this is not Jack Pilgrim. But when Billy
Pilgrim gets older, he's gonna play sports.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
He's gonna fail at times.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
He's gonna You really fail if you stop progressing after
the setback, because if you just sit on that failure,
then you're a failure. But if you fall and you
get back up, you haven't failed yet. And I think
Cutter Bowley last year had some moments, some bright moments,
but you could string along enough good moments when you
(01:27):
figure out, you know, you dust yourself off, you get
up enough times, then you.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Stop getting knocked down as much.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
But we brought another quarterback in this year and said,
you know what, We're gonna put him right in front
of you.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Cutter.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
You sit back there and learn behind him. I don't
know what I'm learning if I'm not getting in game experience.
And I say this because I want your opinion. And
I say this because I know Jason Patterson and beg
Jason Patterson, his daddy, and Jason Junior's mama, which is
as Jason Junior's grandmother, which is Jason Senior's mother. I
(02:04):
met all those people, very nice people, really nice and
respectable people. Jason Patterson is one of the best guys
you'll ever meet. Whenever you meet him Jack, you will
be like, Wow, I want him to mentor my son.
I would like him to mentor meet if he wasn't
thirty years younger than me. But point is, Jason Patterson
serves the same purpose.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
We're gonna bring these older guys in, let them play,
and you sit back here and learn, you're gonna start
You're gonna start losing people after a while. Last week
I did a whole show trying to protect the coaches.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Ass Well, everybody wants some gun.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
But you got, as Larry Vas said, in the first
second or the first hour, we got guys in the
locker room that can play. Why are you jumping people
over them? And how do you expect to keep them?
If you develop them? And we'll have Jason Patterson for
another three years, two or three years, and we will
have Credibaldi for another two or three years. But no,
you decide to bring people in here gonna be for
one year, which means you're going to keep continuing to
(03:02):
recreate something. And I'm not jumping on the coaches because
I spend most of my time protecting the coaches tails
and our program, because I think our program is headed
in the right direction. I think we do have a
good program. But I'm scratching my head at how Cutter
Bowley looks so good this week. You do not have
to remind me that they're one over the one hundredth
(03:23):
rate team in the nation. That does not have to
be reminded. But he showed competency in the pocket. He
stepped up in the pocket he took. He reminded me
of Jim McMahon with a bear.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
He takes some risks.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Tim Cobbs, you want a quarterback with a little swag
to him. You want a quarterback with a little moxy
to him. You want him to take risks. What you
don't want is a scared quarterback. Now, mind you office,
the line is playing really great. Shout out again, Wolford.
As many times I beat you up, I give you
a shout outs, I don't care. Good good job, Wolfer,
you got those guys. You got those guys fighting, giving
(03:59):
us a fighting chance on the offensive side of the ball.
I know Larry Vall is going to focus on the
negative on the defense, like he came out the show.
Just wanted to focus on that, not on a twenty
some point victory. But Jack Pilgrim, it kind of does
it concern you at all that Cutter Bowley and Jason
Patterson at this point ain't in the clear. But we
(04:20):
got guys that all people that wanted to do was
bring some guys in, develop them, let them come through
the system. Just like UK basketball, we want to get
to know the players. Let's let's let us get to
you know, we don't want a new starting anybody every year.
Now if they come up from a sophomore and start
sophomore junior, senior year or sophomore in junior and though
(04:41):
to the NFL is better, but us having guys on
our squad that can play and we should develop them,
which we've all said on this show. Let's develop up
some guys so we have continuity, so people be in
the system for more than one year, so we'll know
we have come back next year. Because as you know,
I wasn't high on Will Levis. I was high on
Devon Leary, and I don't think Devin Larry got a
(05:02):
fair shot. I didn't really care about Brock vnder Griff.
I didn't have one either way. I just knew he
came from Georgia and that was really it.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
And this quarterback we have now Zach Zach cause I
don't was.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
But so the whole point is every year we're rolling
the dice to see what we got. When we already
got a guy in there, they showed all the press.
All he needs is end game experience to you don't
get knocked down maybe ten, fifteen, fifty times and get
back up and then maybe by the time he's a
junior he would be Andre Woson. Andre Wotson's sophomore year
wasn't wasn't beautiful. But I'm sorry it took so much
(05:40):
of your time, Jack Pilgrim, But that is concerning to me,
and I wonder why that would happen. I'm gonna ask
Larry after you, because I almost see if Larry can
make that negative.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
I think the reason why we even tried the Zach
Calzada experience, why we're know kind of year after a
year trying to figure that part out, is you know
they're floor raisers. When you have a Calata who on paper,
the seventh year quarterback, who you know has beaten Alabama
(06:12):
one time on the road, you know that that's just
kind of what everybody went back to, oh, well he's
been there and done that, so we can trust him to,
you know, make the right plays. And and this season
more than ever, Mark Stoops needed a floor raizer, He
needed a guy. Hey, whatever it takes, Can we just
get the six wins so I can get BBN off
my back a little bit, you know, kind of get
(06:32):
that fire off my butt a little bit.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
And what will it take.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Well, yeah, there's a chance that Cutter goes in there
and throws pigs and does you know, make some losing
plays that you know, kind of limit your your ability
to get to you know, six wins, and you know,
the long term future of Cutter may not happen with
Mark Stoops coaching him at Kentucky if that were the case.
So I think part of it is kind of saving
(06:57):
your own butt of Hey, we just got to do
whatever it takes to win football games right now. And
that kind of goes against what I personally thought of
of how this season could have been handled. If you're
going to end up going with Cutter anyway, highlight the future,
talk about hey, we lost our identity, we lost our culture,
but you know, we're we're on the long road. Back
(07:19):
to getting that figured out, and hey, we're investing in
these young guys. We're investing in this young talent. Jason
Patterson go down, you know, the young receivers go down
the list on both sides of the football. You know,
we we kind of hit we platau a little bit
with the last regime with the you know, last kind
of core group of talent. They're out, and now it's
(07:39):
time to invest in the future. You know, I think
it probably would have been smart if you were going
to go down the road anyway with with Cutter, might
as well, you know, let him take those early lumps
against Toledo and Ole Miss and then who knows how
good he could have been yesterday and how he's going
to be against South Carolina and all those things. So
I think it's you know, a personal investment to try
to kind of sayavior's own button and win games early.
(08:02):
But you know, kind of worked out in a way
where you're still sitting at two and one and you're
going into the bye week relatively healthy, and then you know,
a very winnable game against the South Carolina team that
just lost at home to Vanderbilt, so the things can
still work out. In your favor where you're you are
investing in the future. But I do think that's the
key reason why you know, we kind of play this this,
(08:25):
this song and dance.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Larry Vobb before we get to the phone line, and
I know you you and I talk off off Ara
a little bit about some of these things. But do
you realize and I'm not saying this is the answer Cutter,
even if Cutter has a terrible next two games. And
I'm and I just knowing Mark Stoops, now I want
to know your take. Just knowing Mark Stoops, I'm not
one hundred soul on the fact that Cutter's going to
(08:52):
be the starting quarterback the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I'm not. I don't see a reason he shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I just something about Mark Stoops tells me he brought
a I don't know what the investment is for bringing
that because out of he was, But the fact that
you could possibly leave Cutter Bowley who shows and I'm
telling you this, I've told you this. He has all
the things. Yes, he's young, he needs experience, but yeah,
he stays in the pocket. He can make all the
(09:17):
throws up. And I like the Maxie, I like him
taking challenges down the field or whatever. He has good
relationship with the tight ends. Is why Vince Merrill, Vince.
I don't know why they wait for you to leave
to start feeding your guys, but they feeding you guys, Vince,
but Larry vaugh But the other part is, I know
Jason Patterson play. I know who recruited him. I've watched
(09:38):
his film and the guy's a standup guy. He's not
gonna give you no off the field problems. And you
remember coach Bowl where said last year when he was
a true freshman that he would be the first youngster
to get some touches. And now you're just jumping guys
in front of him. And I'm telling you, I've been
in that position Larry Watt before, and once you get
jumped over once or twice, I'm gonna go some worlds
where I could play. But I don't know if Mark
(10:00):
Stoops understands. The fan base is on your head. So
you need to get the future. And right now we
got two running backs. I don't say jump Jason over Seth,
but it should be Seth and Jason and Dante for
the for the just to keep Jason happy, and there's
no reason if you keep them happy enough, he's gonna
(10:22):
continue to get you six yards to carry. But those
two youngsters you can build your program around and move forward.
Why would he not have recognized that other than just
I don't know. I can't say loyalty because the people
he brought in he has no loyalty to.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
He should have loyalty to.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Patterson and Cutter when he told told their parents, I'm
gonna take care of your kid.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I'm gonnaive him the best opportunity to make it to
the next level.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Larry, Yeah, that's a complicated issue because I don't I'm
not sure how much loyalty there is anymore in college sports.
It's not what it used to be. And when you're
coming off for four and eight season, I mean you're
searching for what what you're gonna do? You know, I
feel like you do because I've made that clear. But
Dante did have what the seventy nine yard run the
(11:10):
one week and he's.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Played against Old Miss? Was it against Old Miss?
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I know?
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Okay, I know, so okay, So we don't get credit
for beating up on Eastern Michigan. But he had him
have a seven yard run against against the ledo was
core sixty points last go ahead.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
Well, I mean you're you're you're you're bragging on what
Jason Patterson did yet can do.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
No, No, that's that's just the that's just the surface
of what I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
That is nothing nowhere near what he can do.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
So you don't think Jason Patters is gonna broke that
same run with the open with a gaping hole.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
I don't know. He didn't break one. He didn't break
that seventy nine yard run yesterday. So I'm just saying,
they've got nice running backs. I mean, that's a nice
issue to have that you've got three that look like
they are that good. And maybe you would have had
four memphre's of my old field issue with him, but
then you've got three of them back there. But you
don't what and maybe Jack would disagree, But Jack, a
(12:06):
lot of times those running backs don't really like to
share them all that much. I don't remember Anthony White
ever saying when he played, come on, get my back
up in here, or some give me some reps.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
No, I was, I was a great teammate.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
I did share the ball with Derek Homer, Kendrick Shanklin
and a lot of those guys. R two spinner. I
did share the ball with those guys and I didn't pout.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
But you, no, you didn't. But you want to be
in the game, didn't you.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
I just wanted to win. You know, hey, Larry, You
know Larry, but you know.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
The biggest the biggest thing to me, honestly, the biggest
company and the biggest thing.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
On third down, I need to be on the field.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I don't care what you're doing first on third down,
I need to be on the field because whether we
ran to the pass it I was gonna. I felt
like I had the best chance of us moving it change.
Then we put first out, put them back in there
third down. I need to be on the field, coach.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Yeah, Hallen Tony kept getting there right.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
You asked Jack hold on because we have to go
to break.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
But you did ask Jack about the running back room
and and as if my opinion on kind of about
the running back room only running back on this show.
But he did. He did throw it to you, Jack.
I didn't know if you had a responseor that.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, he threw it to me.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
He knew that you were biased.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
We had to get it. We had to get an unbiased,
unbiased opinion on that. No, I think I think the
running running back room is awesome. And yeah, I do
wonder if if maybe spreading a level of leve a
little bit more, you know, to you know, avoid a
kind of a you know what happens if Mcowan goes
(13:40):
down and you haven't had you know, Jason Patterson get
the reps that that he needs to kind of step
up in his place. I mean, that's why I think
that's the value of having, you know, these early season
games and having those reps for Jason Patterson and having
him produce the way he did. So, Yeah, I think
it's probably the best case scenario long term to be
able to get Patterson Patterson some reps and yeah, like
(14:00):
I said earlier, turned this two headed monster into a
three headed monster potentially exactly time.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Hold on, we'll get to you when we come back.
I'm sorry, man, I was they started talking about running
backs and the man they got. They add they got
in my crawl a little bit. But we'll get you.
We come back time. We'll be back after this. You're
listening to stock Yards Banks Sunday one and Sports Talk
on Who's Radio. Six thirty wlap.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty w lap. Tom,
thank you for waiting for us. Uh what do you
got for us?
Speaker 6 (14:29):
Tom?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
See, if you can't convert Larry into a believer there,
I will try.
Speaker 7 (14:35):
Uh tell me, thank you. I'lle you on good day. Hey,
I think I probably didn't explain my question last week
about that transition from from uh Curry to mommy.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
It was not more so if Stoops changed his offense.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
It's just a foundational change that you needed, just like then,
something new, something fresh. But I'll give it to Stoops.
I mean, my big concern it kind of gets back
to my theory that he's, you know, comming during the offense.
You know yesterday, you know I've watched that. We got,
you know, nineteen seconds left to play caught and him
Dell was able to develop a tempo and he called
(15:13):
some really great plays. And independent of the of the competition,
I thought Cutter made some pretty elite throwers at one
he made to Catus was nice and another one in
the end zone. So independent of that, I thought he
was able to put in windows. So for me, I'm
a stute supporter minus the offense and I just think
if he gets out of the way of that, then
I think we have a good shot. But if not,
(15:34):
then you know, here we go again. So anyway, I
just and somebody else may already said that, I just
started listening. I appreciate your comments on that and hopefully
that helps Larry.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Great cool to Tom.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Let me ask you this though, and I kind of
understood what you were saying last week. I just know
how to put in the context of the conversation. But
Larry Vaught, I'm sure I will agree on this. We
had Neil Brown, who has a different type office. Shandon Dawson,
who is in Miami right now, has a different type.
We had Eddie Grant. So when you're saying maybe it's
time for a change, he's had different coaches with different
(16:07):
type of philosophies, like you had uh Scangarello and the
guy who's the coach of the Jaguars. Now, he's had
guys well for some reason, I keep wanting to say Levice,
but Liam co Liam Cohen those So he's had different
coaches with different philosophies.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Only thing that was consistent with him.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
And I think that for Larry makes it seem like
so that's why when you made the comment last week,
I was more on the side that I think Mark
Stoops is a consonant between the constant between office cordiners
not being successful because he's had a lot of different
type of philosophical quarterbacks, I.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Mean office of coordinators. Thank you for the call.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Tom.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Let's right, let's get chewing here really quick. Do we
have chie wi you? Are you a failable good morning?
What what you got for us? Buddy?
Speaker 8 (17:00):
I just got a quick question for you? So okay,
you have the week off now, anythink what what does
a team you know? In my opinion, you know you
have some a couple of issues with special teams. You
have a couple of issues with in my opinion in
secondary I think you wide receivers still need some work.
But specifically in the week off. You have a bye week,
(17:23):
so there's two weeks before you're gonna play another game.
What is it that a team works on? I mean,
is it is it just another practice?
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Do you do?
Speaker 8 (17:32):
You start off working on your stuff and then scout,
you know, and then start preparing for the other team.
But how do you get better as a team and
specifically address specific issues that you have with your team
in the in the bye week, and I wish the
bye week was probably a week or two later, But
how does it work out? And I'll hang up and
(17:53):
listen and y'all take care of have a great chers
and I.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Appreciate the call well, hoping some break now and we're
losing Jack Pickle, so Larry vaugh and I will continue
to talk about that. With thirty seconds, Jack, you got
any comments before we let you go? Because I am
dreading this next hour and a half with just Larry
and you not here because you are one of the
more sensible millennials. But we've got now. You only got
(18:19):
fifteen seconds, but you got anything before you go?
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Now?
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Man, it's time to get healthy, time to be build
upon that offensive performance and then just kind of go
back to what worked against Toledo and most of the
game against Ole Miss defensively and hope to put together
sixty minutes of good football and go be the game
cocks here here in two weeks?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Are you which are you on the bandwagon? Are you?
Are you direction the boat? Go ahead?
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I'm a straggler hanging off the side. I'm I'm right there,
but hey, I'm in position to jump off, so tread
lightly if Larry.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
If Larry tried to grab onto your clothes to try
to get a hold on to a kick him off.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w
LAP Larry Vaughan.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I don't know if you know it or not, but
Stockyards Bank has been our trusted partner since nineteen hundred
and four, so we're one hundred and twenty years ago,
Larry Valk.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Do you bank with stock the show?
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Do you?
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Huh? I see whar we started the show?
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Do you you bank with Stockyards Bank? Do you have
any money invested over there?
Speaker 2 (19:37):
If you mayby have so much money, I would assume
you're having several teen different banks.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
I'm invested here with. There's not a Stockyards Bank in Danville.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Stockyards Bank, you need one in Danville, and you need
to put one in Twinsburg, Ohio, and we can support
you a little bit more. But we do love what
you do for everybody that you do have locations around
And now, Larry, if you got an intern you don't
have to really go into banks anymore. You can do
all of this stuff virtually. I don't know the last
(20:08):
time I've been into a bank. I do all my
stuff virtually, not I go into the bank.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
I love.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
I love going into the bank and seeing my tellers.
I like to take them little goodies every and express
my appreciation.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
For taking care of for taking your money.
Speaker 8 (20:24):
Yeah, you can do it.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Let me take care of your money.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Then I do that everywhere I go though. I try
to do that when I go go to the dentists,
go to the doctor, I try to show my appreciation
for people that they could care of me.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
You know what that doesn't that does not surprise me,
and that is that is something my mom is like
that she she she gives on Christmas, she gives the
trash guys, uh, the trash guys gifts.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
She gives the uh the male man of gifts. Yes uh.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
And even when it's hot outside. Now you know, Twinsburg
doesn't really get hot. It's not the southst So when
it's hot, like if it's eighty or ninety up there,
when she'll give them bottle of waters when they come
to dump the trash. Now they just sit in the
thing and let the arm pull the trash can. But
she'll She'll take them bottle waters out there.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
I've been known to do that. I like to take
care of my mailman too, because I depend on my
mail man. So if it's hot or if it's rainy,
if he needs toawe to dry with, I try to
do that too.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Dang, you know you kind of remind me of like
being Mayberry, like Andy Griffin.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Well, that's one of my favorite shows. That'd be a
great place to live. I've been to Mount aria where
the Mayberry's pattern aff. I've been to Mount of Arias
several times. It's a wonderful place.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Good deal, good deal. But I'm trying to keep you positive.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
That is why I'm small talking to you, because I
don't want our fan base to lose. But me and
me and Bo got the fair base right where we
want them. He got the right world we want them,
and I think you want to be on the right
side of it. I just think you you just want
be credible. So at this point in your life, I
think you just kind of want to, uh not have
(22:07):
people think you are false pronosticating on how our season's
gonna go. And I'm not false pronounce king nothing. Our
team is good, our coach is good. We had a
bad week last week. We had a good week, Simli
because you don't like what the defense did. But Brad
White he could turn it on whatever he wants to.
He can go into booth and come out as super Anthony,
super Anthony.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
I mean, but bred White didn't like what the defense did.
Don't make it sound like it just me. Bred White
didn't like what the defense did.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
If you want, if the game got tight, he would
have made different calls.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
As the point I'm making, he was being vanilla. He
was doing No.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
They've been playing soft. They even played soft against the
Old Man. So the so the DBS have been playing
soft a little bit, which is understandable. If he wanted
to fix it, he would have fixed it. I'm not
before and before we get to the phone lines. Are
you concerned, this is the point I'm making. Are you
concern that the way our defense is playing is going
(23:04):
to be a problem with us for the rest of you.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
What concerned me was listening to bread White talk about
that it wasn't so much the backups or the reserves
that he put in the play that made mistakes, because
he expected some of that, but that during the game
that every one of his starters at one point or
another raised their hand and said my bad, and he said,
you just can't have that happening in the third game
of the season. You can't have guys making the preseason
(23:31):
type mistakes. So, yes, that does concern me a little
bit because that's not normally something you hear bread having
to talk about. So, I mean, he was really pod
it seemed like talking about the way his defense played
last night. I don't whether he thought they got a
little lack a daisical or what, but I think he
can get it fixed, absolutely, But it's usually not the
(23:52):
kind of comments you hear from bread White after a game.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Let me ask you this again before we get to
the phone. I was, let me ask you this then.
So if it takes me, for instance, you've covered me
for a while, let me ask you this. If you
are a top tier and I'm not saying me, but
I'm saying you are a top tier player and you're
playing against one of the worst teams in the country,
is your focus and I understand you, Big Blue Nation,
(24:18):
everybody's respect. No, you're being compensated too well for you
to go out there or not. They are still young
individual young adults like they are still trying to figure
life out, because we could talk about you and Bowle's
decisions at twenty years old, twenty early twenties, mid twenties,
late twenties. My point is this was a game that
they probably overlooked. You know, I ain't got to be
(24:40):
I don't know if you remember I fumbled twice against
Yu Khon, which not in basketball. It was a football game,
and I almost got sent to the bench. We beat
you come about like fifty. But me, I don't know
why fumbled, and I've only fumbled like six times my
whole career.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
No, I didn't remember that. I remember you ever fumbling,
so I didn't.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
You know I got kicked off the team for fumbling
again in Alabama in my freshman year.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, but that was with that other coach that was
not the coach that valued people that could put the
battle on the end zone, like with what you and
Craig East could do. And also I loved that other
coach as a person, But I loved how mommy for
liking gas that could put the ball in the end zone.
But again, I'm just going by what Brad said after
(25:37):
the game. I think he didn't want to see any
slippage in that defense, felt like he saw or that
he had some and maybe like he says, just what
you did, they just for a little lack of day's
ago made they have things quite the way they should.
But you only played twelve games. And with the money
you make, now, I mean you get paid to be focused.
(25:58):
I mean sure that I have when I worked at
regular hours and sometimes my focus wasn't as good as others. Yeah,
it happens, but when it happens, it doesn't mean you
can't be criticized for it.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Oh no, I absolutely agree with you on that. I
agree with in that.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
But uh, let's get to the phone lines and see
Jeff from Tennessee. I'm going to assume, Jeff, what do
you got for is big dog?
Speaker 6 (26:27):
Hey, mister White, Larry is how long you take you
to a bot?
Speaker 3 (26:34):
That?
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Forty years? The first year?
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Say way more than for wait, the first year.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
The first year you've first.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
Year would when the first year I covered it and
got paid would have been starting in nineteen seventy five.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
Oh that's fifty years, then, mister White, the dfense you
don't allow I touched him in the lat medle with bomb.
That's what mister White thought. What you White's mad about?
You don't allowed a ten point anymore? Wherever it is,
I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna get something eating. I'm listening
to the ball game twenty eight sixteen. Come on, Oh
my goodness, I thought it's gonna be a ball game.
(27:10):
They tored it? That would it? Wor Larry? For that
two or three minutes they scored ten points? What was that?
What it was?
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Yeah? Yeah, over two minutes.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
Yes, he's done there a lot longer than you have,
a lot longer. All you worried about it's going to
point you ain't worried about stopping. I know he's worried
about it. He wouldn't worry about stop. And let me
give you something. When you fumbled the ball, the cold
is wondering why you fumbled it, or that you do
it against you gone fumbling? You gone? Really, you're kidding me.
They're the one of the worst. There about you mad,
(27:41):
They're one of the worst the country.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
There will scholarship too, they.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
I'm challenge gets something wrong with them. They're not very good.
But what I want to say is, if I'm abandon
to be a fan right now down there. I'm so
tique because last night, when that one day start their newscast,
I'll be one of the biggest ones they've had in
a while. There three and oh, but they started off
with heart breaking in Kneeling, and Tennessee lost at Georgia again,
(28:08):
had all lost by over time about three. That that
that that that that the defense is he can turn
when you go into's better teams, that they should have
stopped them and the last whatever they should have stopped
them on or whatever third down or forced in the
punt or something, and and and and Takarl was like,
this guy can play in the SEC. I don't know
if you heard that comment. I don't have you heard
of you listen the radio, but he said that quarterback
(28:30):
in Eastern Michigan. Do you think he good? Larry? I mean,
mister White, do you think you can play in the SEC?
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I know, I mean, let me ask you this, the
quarterback that we had last week, do you think he
can play in the SEC?
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Our quarterback, well, I mean he didn't play, got hurt,
didn't play rad I don't know, but I'm just saying
the one on Eastern Michigan. He thinks he can play
in the SEC. He was that good. Do you think so, Larrybond,
do you think he's good?
Speaker 5 (29:01):
Maybe as a backup ro I don't think he would
be a starter in the SEC.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
No, he do.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
He does play for one of the worst teams in
the country. You do know that, Jeff.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
And another thing I watched, I watched vottyball against Pittsburgh
and it frustrates me so much. They made three straight
errors in a row. They cut it to one about
three times, and I want to out while every jump
servant ever made I'm tired of. He would jump serving it,
hitting it to China, or hitting it in the net. Basically,
I was so mad that that wasn't watching. That fits
(29:34):
pardon mat. They didn't get a big win against Semu
over the weekend, so hope that propels him into conference play.
He's playing really, really good. They just had a tough
schedule and I'll leave with that guy's And also, I mean,
get a lot of them. I can't usually get in,
but when I do, I enjoy this. To you guys
and Larry Legend, keep it going, baby, have.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
A good one, all right, Appreciate it, Appreciate the calls.
I think I appreciate the call. Larry, did you text
him and tell him to call in?
Speaker 3 (30:00):
He was all over me like.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Like he like you had his backers, like he had
your back or something like you call reinforcements.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Huh.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
I can't control the phone lines.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
That's you could tell him the car no no, but
Bow will tell me who's calling. But you it's all
of a sudden. Every time I try to get our
fan base on board and you don't like the way
it is doing, then I get on your head. Then
all of a sudden, you just ironically a caller would
call in and well, there he's been covering for this
one of years. I'm not even fifty and you've been
(30:30):
covering sports for over fifty years. You should know better.
I want to ask you, but let me ask you
this before we get to break. He didn't he didn't
like the jump serve. I thought the jump serve was
that is that's like the deep ball in football, right
or fastball in baseball?
Speaker 6 (30:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (30:48):
I mean, and the majority of them of them do it.
At Kentucky sometimes does have have a get on a
stretch where they have some service eras they also get
on a stretch where they have some service. So it's
kind of the you live, you live with what it
what it brings you. Like Brooklyn Delay, she's got one
of the best serves in the country. It's really hard
(31:10):
to handle as long as she gets it in bounds.
Sometimes it's so powerful, ball won't come down inbounds. It
just keeps going and going and going. So but uh,
I get his frustration, but also it's just part of house.
Craig Skinner wants his players to have the freedom to play,
and he doesn't really yell and scream when they do that.
He wants them to go ahead and try to hit
those tough serves because it feels like that's what it
(31:31):
takes to win.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Does the laye do a jump serve?
Speaker 6 (31:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
She doesn't do a jump serve? Does she Delay doesn't jump?
So's is she static or her feet are on the ground?
Speaker 5 (31:40):
Right, They're all kind of moving when they do that,
and jumping a little bit when they do it.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yes, But I'm talking about the ones that get way
up because I thought, I remember last year Emma, I
thought she jumped, like really jumped and got up there.
And I can't recall what the few I haven't watched
a ton of games this year, but our matches. But
I thought delay was she wasn't a jumper. I thought
(32:06):
she just had a powerful hit because she's so tall.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
We'll come on over to Memorial to they ain't check
it out yourself at two pm?
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Is nineteen seventy four gonna take care of me this time?
Speaker 5 (32:18):
I don't know. They might be taking care of certain people.
I don't know if they were coming.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
I think you. I'm not even gonna say it. I
think you.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
I'm not even gonna say it. I think you're biased.
I had a word I was gonna say, but I
don't want to say it on air. But I think
you're biased. And that's that's the point.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
Oh, you're coming. I'm sure they will take care of you, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
The nineteen seventy four are UK. Those are two different,
two different things.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
UK's going to give you a media paint that might
be a little late. Now to the college. Try to
get in touch with some doll.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Oh, I forgot it yet.
Speaker 5 (32:52):
You want to go? You know you're gonna be able
to get a spot.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
I forgot. We're not talking about football. We'll be back
after this.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunny winning sports talking news
radio to six start.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty w
l A. P.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank, Sunday morning sports Talk. I'm Anthony
Why along with Larry Vaught. Larry Vaught, Larry Vought. I
did myself a favor and apparently the Robinson family it's
coming at my head on social media saying I'm being
(33:33):
too hard on Larry.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
You think I'm being too hard on you, Larry Vaught?
Are you just hard hitting?
Speaker 7 (33:40):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (33:40):
I'm hard hitting, dude.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
So you think I'm being too hard on you.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
I didn't say you's being Well.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
That's what Lacey or Lacey the better Robinson. The better
Robinson thinks that I'm being too hard on you, and
I think she's fine. It hard to listen to.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Well, I'll just say this, I think Lacey's a pretty
wise woman.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
So, Larry Vaught.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Our football team and here's the thing, Larry Vaught, Now
tell them riddle me this. I think our football team
has figured some things out, and tell me my recipe
from the beginning of the year. Shout out again to
coach Wolford. Our offenseive line is active and they're giving
us an opportunity. They're giving us a chance to win games,
which they haven't in the past couple of years. So
(34:25):
the offensive line has come around the running back. I
don't think we've had a problem in the running back room.
Maybe ever, under Stoop's tenure a quarterback, we had some issues.
I think we've kind of figured so we figured a
lot of things out. Brad White is gonna get the
defense together. Whether you and Jeff want to stick together
and play peanutburn and jelly, that's fine. But the one
(34:48):
thing is I think the receiving room I think is
there when we need it. But I'm pretty optimistic about
the rest of the season because the only question you
really had coming in was off this line and quarterback.
And Cutter may take a year, he may take lumps
all this year. I don't know if you recall what's
(35:11):
the quarterback? What's the quarterback? I named earlier from from Harden,
Kentucky Andrew Woodn't. Yeah, his sophomore year wasn't beautiful. I
didn't think.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
I was underwhelmed by this sophomore year at Kentucky, But
he turned out to be one of the best ever
to play here. So I think Cutter, if we ride
with Cutter, I think he's gonna give us what we need.
But uh, just the optimism level park go ahead.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
That's what said the first year that Andre Woodson started,
he wasn't even going to be the starter until Curtis
Pully got dismissed from this time.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
That's true. I forgot about that. You're right. I did
forget about that.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
But even no matter what the level of competition we played,
was the optimism and just kind of what's the takeaway?
And I told you the relief that I got. You know,
Van Howe was on last week and he said I
only call him on when we had when we lose.
I'm having Van House come in here. I'm having buffer you.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
I will tell you now, this is a moment of
truth for you though. If you want to be at
if you want to be at the volleyball game at
two pm, the w nineteen seventy four Collective is going
to take care of you with a ticket and a
club level hospitality pass. But you have to let them
know so that they can see about getting.
Speaker 6 (36:26):
That to you.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
I will reach out to the nineteen seventy four Collective.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Okay, well, you reach out, you're interested in coming,
