Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Well, I guess I started this gig twenty twenty years
ago and I didn't have gray hair, and bo Is
is one. I haven't had a producer I really don't like.
But I really like bo Bow takes care of me.
And it just on this side of the microphone. I

(00:30):
need to know what's going on, like I'm the quarterback
of this thing. Like I gotta know what Larry's thinking about.
I gotta know what's going on. I gotta check on
the news. I gotta check on them. Also, one thing
I really don't have to check on is when we
get in and out of breaks, how much time we
have and you know, getting people online. Bou Robinson says,
you're up in three seconds by the way we got in.

(00:52):
So I don't know if my introduction is supposed to
be myself and Larry Vapp or I'm supposed to act
then House, which we do have Ben House now. But
oh Rabinson, because he doesn't have hair, I don't think
he appreciates it. He's making my hair turn agree, But
I'm sure I love you both. The feeling is likewise.
I enjoy working with you for all these years, and
we get a lot of great compliments about our work together.

(01:13):
And I'm sure I drive you nuts by some of
the antics that go on during the break that nobody
sees on line or hear about.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Anything like that. But you got to know something. I've
been doing this for thirty years as of this September.
My sister and I were talking about it. When did
I really start doing all this? So we go back
to my college radio days in Georgetown. I've been doing
this for thirty years, Anthony. You need to know something.
I am always in control. I know what's going on.

(01:43):
I know where I'm coming from, and I know where
I'm going. I may not get it to you on
time when you would like, but I still know what's
going on, and I am in full control, and I'm
never worried about anything.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
That makes me feel even more frustrated. But I love
it because I would like to feel the same way
you feel. I would like to have the same amount
of confidence you have. I would like to know what's
going on too. You notice I'm never worried about anything
around here. You're absolutely not you're absolutely not not even
the UK's football season. And now that we have Van
Howes because and only because I don't like to take

(02:16):
this man's time, because he is everywhere. He is everywhere,
like like matter Van Holes, Larry Vaught is still after
what we witnessed yesterday against against Briand Station Middle School,
he is not so uh. You know, we had a
lively show last Wednesday on some things that you did

(02:39):
not like. But I think there's a lot to be
excited about.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
I think I can't. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Stoops are still Stoops, and I think Stoops is gonna
stoops his way until his time here is done. However
that comes if they if the fan based ponies up.
But you know, just seeing that we for the first
time and probably four years, for four years, we've seen
a quarterback that takes chances, got mocks, He uses the

(03:10):
pocket the way it's supposed to be used. Uh, I
don't know. Maybe he took some throws that man. There's
three people now, mind you, some of them we caught.
Some of them could have been interceptions. But he's taking
rest and he and he has and he has a reason.
Now you got film to go back and watch and
the quarterback coach Bush can say, well, why what was

(03:30):
your and you played quarterback before and I said in
quarterback rooms, and that's what the quarterback coach has asked
when they see a bathroom, what were you thinking? If
the quarter if the officive coordinator of the quarterback coach
can relate to why the quarterback made that.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Decision is not what happened.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
The outcome, but if they understand the thought process behind
making that decision, then it's fine. If they if the
thought process was completely no, the safety was already rolling
that way, you should have came off that immediately, then
you fix it. But all in all, how do you
feel about the game yesterday? Because Larry Vaught thinks that

(04:06):
it'd be tough for us to win four games this year.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Well, look, we're gonna we're gonna go back to the
quarterback room and we're gonna ask you what were you
thinking about when you said everything like matter? Where did
that come from? Everywhere like matter? Where did that come from?
What was your what did you see? And what was

(04:33):
your thought process to come up with the verbiage everywhere
like matter?

Speaker 4 (04:38):
I'm just interested.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
I just think I just think we're trying to get
things together, and you're grasping and you have no no
real direction. You just everywhere's your paidpoint something. Then that
is the complete opposite everywhere, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
Well, look, I don't I don't know where to get
serious about it. I don't know where Larry Vault and
some of these fans think we should be. At the
Great University of Kentucky. We are a traditional powerhouse anthemy.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
We have won.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
We have won nine games every other year ten, I
mean every we spotted ten. We always have the top
third in the SEC Conference and talent and recruiting out there.
We not struggle against some teams. I'm I'm, I'm just

(05:36):
baffled by how we only beat this team?

Speaker 4 (05:39):
What was four y eight twenty three? Unbaffled. I don't understand.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
We are better than this, and we should provide the
great fans that we have that showed up and grows
this Saturday and gave us the environment that we actually needed.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Well, it was a night game, but no, like I said,
the two things the offense. Like I said, the offense
looked a lot better. I still think the receiving or
the receiving core needs to and I think they will
come across. I think Bush Hampton's playbook is getting bigger,
and I think it is being more utilized. I think

(06:21):
now in a bye week, and that's what she will
ask in the bye week. I think he gets with
Cutter Bowli, what plays are we comfortable with?

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Now?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
If if these reps are split between Zach and Cutter,
and I find that out, because I don't think it's
gonna be public, But if I find that out, I'm
gonna be livid.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
I am you are setting us back. You are setting
us back. It is, but I'm sorry you got it
is no way.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
It's no way that the keys gets out of Cutter's
hands unless he gets rear ended by Semi and he's
hurt for a week or two. It's no way he
loses the keys to this program. There is nothing that
we have seen the last three weeks that says this
offense operates better on the Zach causer than it.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Does in a Cutter boating.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
There are going to be warts that we're gonna have
to to be aware of.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
There's gonna be mistakes he's gonna make.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
There's gonna be issues that's gonna happen in games kind
of like Will Lewis. If you remember Will Levis putting
one against mississ State of Starkfield, We're gonna have a
game like that. But you you can't take the keys
away from him when when he's your future. He is
the best guy for the job as of right now,
and I don't and I don't see how you can
take the keys away from him.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
So if they take the keys.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Away from him, I'm I'm I'm gonna become a Louisville fan.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Wow, wow, you can become an LSU fan since you donald,
why would you come in?

Speaker 5 (07:49):
Oh? Yea yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
I actually went wait, wait too far.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
You're right, I will become an l U fan. You're right,
You're right, You're right. It's not bad the moment, Alan fan.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
No, no, no, you talking about you talk about fans
that really don't give us you know what about football?

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Nah?

Speaker 5 (08:07):
Okay, nah no, definitely not too lame fan. Those though,
those people don't don't care about anything. But but but
medicine and money and go ahead, Larry had.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Something I ain't No, no, I'm just laking saying and
then you.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Canna find this laughable as well. Because Larry wants to
make it. He's a comedian all of a sudden, uh,
he feels, and I'm with him. I mean, you give
up as many offenses are yards as our defense gave
up one of the best. And I still say one
of the best defense gave up four let me see
one thirty one, three thirty five?

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Oh total yards?

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, total? Yeah, four something. So Larry Voss concerned. I mean,
it's fine, four sixty one?

Speaker 4 (08:52):
How many? Is that an anomaly?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Because every time some bad happens to our program or
Stoops everybody all, that's who we are. And I think
Larry knows that our defense ain't afford some yards against
Eastern Michigan.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
But I understand.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
And if you can't just ignore it because it happened,
you cannot just ignore it. But a lot of times
you can give if you can give half effort and win.
Sometimes that's tig And I'm not saying we don't have
the cachet.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
To do that.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I don't think Brad Stoops. No one has a cachet
to do that, especially at this university. But are you
concerned about giving up for sixty one?

Speaker 5 (09:33):
This is what I'm concerned about, and I actually Twitter
during the game. But I'm gonna ask you guys this
because I had no idea who is number nineteen and
who is number thirty? Do you guys know that at
the top of your head or did you have to
do like like I had to do and.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Go to to chapter GPT is who is number nineteen?
Who's number thirty?

Speaker 5 (09:55):
For Universe Entucky twenty five Kentucky Football there, But I
had no idea.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
They parents might be listening to stop that greaton nineteen?

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Didn't ragister.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
No come exactly so so so so Therefore what happened
in that game is for some reason, and and I
understand in the grand scheme of things kind of why
they do it. But we sub being defensively and let
guys play way too much early in the game. And
for me, as a former defensive player, it been a

(10:28):
little selfish about it.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
I wanted all defensive stats to be great.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
And when you start subbing their guys who have not
played play.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
With each other during practice, it creates a bad flow.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
And when those guys come in the game, and I
know they need experience. I know this is a learning
experience for those two guys. But in the grand scheme
of things. They gave up explosives that would not have
been given up by by Nichols or or JQ. So
what they playing the things that happened in that game.
But would they play you know they play down in
South Carolina? Are these so?

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Are you so much just Larry Vault's piece of mind?
Are these things gonna be? Are we gonna have that
much of the uh, the depth chart being utilized once
we get in the sec place, especially on the road
in Columbia.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
No, And for me and all my.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
Years of playing, the majority of the subs came from
the defensive line, right, because they're running around. They are
bigger guys carrying a lot more luggage than us small dbs.
So typically those are the guys who have a defined rotation, right,
they go in and out, two or three guys come
in as a long series. You see defensive linem and
shuffling in and out. You don't see corners cheffing in

(11:41):
and out. It just doesn't happen. So for us to
shoff as many dbs as we did, where we shovel
some linebacker combinations that I haven't seen, like all that
stuff matters, like that will route in the second quarter
when I think one of the what they score like
sixteen points in the last like four minutes or something,

(12:02):
one of those was on the linebacker that didn't get
the call.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
It didn't know the call that it was man to man.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
You missed a running back come in the backfield that
was obviously his Like, those are the kind of mistakes
that we can't make, and those are kind of mistakes
that create narratives and the perception from people outside Joe
Kraft that breathe negativity.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
And that is what happened in this game.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
A lot is that we had guys on the field
that shouldn't have been on the field in the first half.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
And in my opinion, but we gotta go to break though.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
But I just need eat, yes or no, because we
have to go to But the just the ability and
learn and win, just the ability to get some guys
out there and see what they can do, see them
a real live game action.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
It's still a plus.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
It might look ugly and it may have set us
back a little bit as far as us dominating, but
it does better for the future. Yes or no? Yes,
all right, that's it. That's clear, right, that's clear. If
we'll be back after this. You're listening to Stockyards Bank
Sunday when in Sports on news Radio six thirty w

(13:09):
l a P.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty w
l a P.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Can you keep Larry on me the rest of the show.
I'm not doing that. Oh well, I'm just gonna talk
to Van.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
But I don't think we got to get Van for
a little while because Van makes the things, makes the
fans base Van after the game? Do you think, and
this is the same thing I asked Jack and Larry,
if if we had Cutter start or come in, you
didn't have to start, just come in last week? Do
you think there's a different outcoming even last week's game

(13:41):
with Cutter Bowlie at quarterback.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
That's a good question. I'm not sure that's that's a
that's a hord. What if let's let's see how Cutter
plays in two weeks against South Carolina and Columbia, then
you're can ask me that question because the reason why is,
be honest with you, that Louisville game gives me a
little bit of PTSD. So I'm not sure which Cutter

(14:10):
would would have performed last week?

Speaker 4 (14:12):
An old mess. I mean, I guess an old mess.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
So let's let's see how he does against South Carolina
and then we can we can revisit the.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Old mess came, I guess is there something to be said?
And I've had this problem like I said that we
always talk about this on Wednesdays nine pm again, that
is there something to be said that a quarterback? And
I told Larry Vault this for years and he can
he can agree or he can confirm her a non confirmed.
Is there a difference to a quarterback not having to

(14:42):
look over his shoulder like Cutter is? Maybe obviously his
quarterback mannerisms are obviously better than the seven year which
makes no sense to me. So why not take a
two year a nineteen twenty year old and mold would
he already raw talent instea trying to adjust the seven year?
And this is there's no way for me to avoid

(15:04):
having a knock on zac comes out of them. I mean,
I'm a UK fan, I've been trying to support the
university all this time, but I just think that Cutter
has all the essentials, all the things that quarterback needs
to make it. But if so, you're saying he has
to wait until next week I just kind of feel

(15:24):
as if he's gonna have some ups and downs, that's
fine with me, but just give him the opportunity.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Well, here, here's what I've said this before.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
This is what I feel like is what happens, right
when you have a nineteen year old nineteen year olds
act like a nineteen year olds outside the football field, right,
because some of us, some of us so much more
mature values, are acting attributes on the field than we're
through off the field. Right, So maybe there was some
issues off the field that prevented him from being the

(15:58):
starter from day one. Here's the thing, what I think
happened is when you go four and eight, right, and
then you start hearing hearing, hearing the noise, feeling the
pressure as a coach, I think you tend to go
to something that you think you know and trust more
than someone that's more of an unknown.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Right.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the Lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six point thirty
w l A. P.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
It's nice to people take care of me, Larry Walk,
the same way you take care of your your your
your public serve or your public.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
What are they? What are they?

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Call public workers. I'm doing. I'm kind of doing the
same thing. They're taking care of me, and I appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Larry fought, well, we got to try to take care
of you and try to keep you happy. You get
a little gruffy, people don't agree with you, so we
got to try and.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Keep you happy.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Well, I will say, oh, Stockyards Bank, who sponsors the show,
it's your trusted partner and they have been your trusted
partner since nineteen hundred to four. So let me point
that out to both of you. Make sure you don't
make no mistakes about that. Since nineteen hundred to four,
stock Yards Bank has been your trusted partner. Speaking about

(17:15):
keeping people happy, and that's what I try to do.
Larry Vatt, that's why we bring Van on here every
now and then too. And he says I never bring
him on after a win, so I brought him on
the win. Maybe it was a small win. But we've
were talking about the quarterback and you think the quarterback room,
and this is the one thing I want to see
how you felt about this. Jason Patterson is going to

(17:42):
be a future running back, like he's going to be.
Like I said, Will Cox, I'm not certain he'll be
available anymore the rest of career. I'm not sure if
he'll be a Kentucky wild Cat anymore. But he was
the person that we thought. Jason Patterson got hurt extremely early.
He never had a chance to show. Take nothing from
Seth or Dante. Takes nothing from those guys. Those guys

(18:05):
are our dudes. But you and the thing Larry and
Vaudt and I were talking about it, and Jack Pilgrim,
we're talking about we have guys in the house. Cutter
Bowdy has been in the house. Jason Patterson has been
in the house. You went out shopping around. What's just
I ain't gonna say extremely disrespectful disrespectful, but extremely disrespectful

(18:27):
or it speaks to your your your evaluation, your evaluation techniques.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
How are you evaluating the people you have in your
locker room?

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Why not present Jason Patterson as a starter or keep
him in a rotation with Seth or Dante, either one,
and then bring another, uh, somebody out of transfer a
portal that wants to come in behind Jason. Why keep
jumping people over top of the guys we have instead
of developing the orders we have. Do you not have

(19:00):
faith in our development. Did do you find any concern
in that?

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Man?

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Yes and no, because even though they brought in somebody
doesn't mean they just naturally are the starter, right.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Hold On, Larry Vaughters pointed out, but this nil is
you don't bring people playing for free like it was
back in the nineteen hundreds.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Well but but but everybody's getting paid.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Unlike when we played in nineteen hundreds, you had a
couple of players that were getting paid a little bit.
I'm not I mean, that's been thirty years ago, right,
the statue of limitations is over right, there were some
players who was getting a little extra coin more than
some other people. You know what I'm saying. So here's
the deal though, And it's hard, man. I think things

(19:47):
changed when you have a bad season. It's like when
I played with the Bears of my rookie season. We
didn't have a good turnout, we didn't have a good result,
but they turned over the whole roster. If you had
a better result the previous year, you wouldn't have had
all this turnover roster because we would have we would
have trusted the guys that were that were on the team.
Since you go for an eight you have to change

(20:08):
some things now. The same thing that I said about
Cutter is the same thing you can say about these
running backs. What's the maturity level? Are they doing the
right things on and off the field, the right things.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
I'm not from anybody antibody ever, Jason Patterson is doing
all the right thing now. He's just young in an experience,
which is fine. But why discourage the young man. I've
been in his position. You haven't. I don't even know
if you've ever been a backup. I think you just
came in and started playing. I'm saying I have been
on the backup. I've been on I've been in the

(20:40):
dog house and all those things. It's a tough It
is a burden to bear knowing that it seems like
they don't want you there, or why am I gonna
stay here in four years if you've already told me
I don't belong you.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
Well, it seems to whatever that level of communication is
with him and his coaches and coach Stoupson and Bush,
is obvious that that he's always ready and he's not
powdered because some other guys will be powdering. Because when
he got in the game, he showed what he showed
us the first couple of games last year. He is

(21:17):
a talent and he's going to be our starter pretty soon.
So whatever whatever we see on the outside as as
perception of what's going on inside might not be reality.
Because I'm gonna tell you a nineteen year old with
as you say, nil the portal, he might have been
in the portal after on fall camp if you could have, right,

(21:38):
So there's something that's.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
That's that's been said.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
He has he has taken to it, because man, when
he came in that game last night, I don't know
how many I don't know when he came in the.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Fourth quarter really only the fourth, the third.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
I think he did a little bit in the third,
but he got a heavy del in the fourth, so heavy.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Dose in the fourth.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
He almost at one hundred yards on limited opportunities. So
that's said something about him and being a quote unquote professional.
I know he's a college student being quote unquote a
professional and always being ready because he could have came
in a game and just said, man, it doesn't matter
to me anymore. We already game is one in the
sense of me showing out I could just do I'm
gonna be the third string.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Anyway, you know what I'm saying. But no, he came
in and played well. Understood the other quote.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
The other concern to me, and I think still big
Blue Nation kind of has an understanding.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
Is there a problem at the in the.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Receiver room because we've already established I think we fixed
no matter what Cutter does next or against US South Carolina.
No matter what he does. I mean, if he has
a good game, great. If he has some struggles, fine.
A lot of people come in and have struggles. You
just have to work through them. Though the problem is
getting to go through the struggles. That what makes you

(22:55):
a great person. I mean, even Artis Maning in Texas
right now, he still is still up the air about him.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
But he's gonna come out.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
I have no doubt, and the rest of the nation
has no doubt he's going to come out on the
other end of success because his last name is Manning.
But I'm saying Cutter needs to go through some things
we need to develop, and we need to wrap wrap
our arms around him. The only question, like you said,
is we did show a lot of pay attention to

(23:22):
the tight ends yesterday, But is a receiver room and uh,
and Bush is doing things to get the receivers open
because he's moving. He's moving law all over the place
trying to get him opportunities.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Is the receiving room concern to you?

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Are they just not learning what they have to learn
to get off the ball and give a cutter an opportunity,
because that would be the problem because Wolford is doing
this thing. Our running game is there because the front
the blue wall, I don't know if it's big, but
the blue wall is there. So the guys are doing
But if we're not getting guys open, and like I said,
Bush or Move is moving guys around so they're given

(24:02):
so you can't really press them because of your emotion.
There's no way to press. It's usually a hold if
you try to to press somebody who's already emotion. But
we can't get a whole lot of targets, and we
ain't getting a whole lot of Most of the targets
are not to the tight ends. Yeah, it's the.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
The quarterbacks has fallner level of trust more with the
tight ends than with anybody else.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
But they're are wide receivers open. We were just not
getting the ball.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
I mean even on the third down, pass where he
should have been picked. You had a wide receiver going
going past or dB and what's been what's being held also,
But there are guys open, just like last week Kendrick
Law was opened straight down the straight down the scene
and didn't see them like, there are guys open. We
have quarterbacks who are who identifying whom there whom their

(24:54):
favorite receivers are, and they're trying to get them the
ball and and and that's why we're not giving more
or wide receiver touches. I mean, when you're on the
thought the ball, what we do it twenty sometimes twenty one,
twenty one times. Twenty one times is obscenely low for
a college game. If you're expecting high I guess a

(25:18):
high target rate to your outside receivers. Twenty one times
is some Some some teams throw twenty one times in
one half.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Yeah, but we don't have Lane Kiffin, Larry Vaude. Are
you concerned that are because I mean, this is an
opportunity for you be pessimistic. Is there a concern that
our receivers are not going to get it turned.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
On every every position? Our concern was offense.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
I know you were concerned about the four sixty one
that we gave up on defense. We both agree, all
the three of us agree that I think Brad is
going to get those things together. But the receivering core
has been a question most of us for the past
couple years. Has been because the offensive line which led
to the quarterback, and now I think the quarterback and
office line are fixed.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Are you concerned about receiving corby a.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
Fixed Well, yeah, I think you got to be concerned.
But if you remember several months ago, I kept asking you,
why do you have fourteen receivers on the team when
you're going to go to a ground oriented attack. How
are you ever going to get the ball to all
those guys? How they're going to be happy? And I
don't know what Van thinks is wrong with cut or
throw into his roommates. I mean, you were Kim Kata's buddy.

(26:27):
All he wanted to do was throw to you.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
I mean Kevin Coleman was his roommate. Kevin Coleman was
the roommate, So he threw the ball to Kevin a
whole lot.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
Yeah, you know, also, I mean it just but I do.
I'm always interested in what Van has to say about
the receiver breakdown because just when when you're looking at watching,
you do sometimes wonder, are those guys I get enough separation?
Are they not get that quick enough? Are they just
not looking for them and they know the tight ends
are more reliable?

Speaker 4 (26:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
And they did get that few more explosive plays yesterday,
but I think most were any wide receiver targeted more
than twice yesterday, Van, I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Hard four, Hardy had four and Kendrick had three.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
Ken you had to have, yeah, kenj you had to
have more than Yeah. But I don't know if you
called but I don't know. I don't know if you
call Kendricks or targets. When a couple of those were
je sweeps, Yeah, yeah, they called it sweep fanstest those
legitimate targets. Look, it's a it's a level of comfort,

(27:34):
it's a level of also defensive playing a lot of
a lot of cover three.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
I mean, that's really.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
One reason why we converted third and nineteen is because
they play three deep when they just allowed those seams
as an option for a quarterback. So a lot of
teams are playing over the top of these receivers because
because they don't want to give up the big play. Yeah,
because they know we cannot consistently pass fifteen ten yard
outs or digs whatever consistently and beat them. So they're like,

(28:02):
they're probably gonna go deep and try to get a big.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Player of PI.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
So I think that's a that's that's probably why what
a lot of defenses are doing to to try to.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Cover us up.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
But in the grand scheme of things, I think there
are wide open receivers.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
We just haven't hit them when we should have hit them.
So I'm not I'm not totally down.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
On the wide receiver group until they play a team
like Auburn where they play straight in your face press man.
Then that's gonna be when the receiver's gonna have that
most problems. We really haven't faced that too much this
season thus far.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
That is Van Howe's We will continue this show on
the other side of this break. You're listening to Stockyards
Bank Sunday Morning sports Talk on news radio six thirty
w LAP.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty w
L A.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
P Ben House.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
Before we before we I mean we only got a
couple minutes left, with about five six seven minutes. Uh,
I don't know if it's really a concern. I just
never really worry about the defense. That is just something
that I think is the main stay. But your position
cornerback specifically, because I think Jordan love It and Ty

(29:10):
Bryant are two guys that you wake up, set your
clock by.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
They're gonna be where they're supposed to be, doing what
they're supposed to do. JQ.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Hardaway has had way a lot better season he has
the past couple of years he started off. He's starting
off on the r. But that other cornerback position leeds
a little be desired. Is it gonna be fixed?

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Er?

Speaker 2 (29:30):
If the injury bug continues to the hamstringers, is that
something we're worried about going into the SEC play.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Yes, Larry Balt would have to tell me what's going
on with Nichols and Waller. I know Waller didn't play
last week, he didn't play this week.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
So is he gonna be available in two weeks?

Speaker 5 (29:50):
Because if not, I am very concerned because then if
anything happens, any kind of attrition happens to that cornerback room.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Then we gotta go back.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
I'm not gonna stay, but then we got to go
back to guys who are less experienced. When I talked
about earlier when you said parents might be listening, So
I'm not gonna say anything negative again.

Speaker 6 (30:11):
Well, I think the plan is but not using Waller
again this week and the in the week off that yeah,
he should be back for South Carolina. Nicholas, I don't
know exactly what happened. I see just played a little
bit and then they took him out. But then it
sounded like after the game that he was banged them
already going into the game. And if that was the case,

(30:32):
I don't know why you played him.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
To begin with.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Well where you played him to get that that that
pass break up to get the almost picked six by Rainer,
And I guess he made that play mister ball And
they're like, all right, and we'll see it enough.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Play.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
I'm like you, but you gotta get him. I mean,
they do need to be well. And Waller, I think
is a huge deal because I mean all I heard
was most of the summer and most of the preseason.
But man, just watch this guy. He's going to be
so much better. Here's the guy we got from Michigan,
here's why we want him. And then boom right off
the bat, it gets hurt, so hopefully every back in
two weeks and ready to row.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
Is it a lower bide energy of upper body injury,
like like the hockey players, do you know? We don't
know exactly, but it's a lower upper.

Speaker 6 (31:21):
I think it is lower from what I have heard,
But then again they're so vague. I don't know exactly.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Right, And so we got a little bit of time left.
And the other question come up to a lot of people.
Like I said, I assume that this off or this
by week is going to be based off of Cutter
getting getting some playbook, minimizing the playbook to see what
Cutter what we need on third is what we need
on third to see something that he knows he can
close his eyes.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
We can call the play if your handset goes off.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
We know I've done this play a thousand times getting
Cutter uh acclimated to that as well. But also just
get your take as well. And I think on the
defensive side, I know it Brad why he likes to do.
I got friends on the defensive side of the ball.
You really want to get the guys to the point
where we can be exotic and versatile on defense. Because
Brad White has no problem with the when the person

(32:10):
but the more you can do with whatever personnel you
have on the field makes us a whole lot flexible,
makes our defense a whole lot better. And this is
what our fan base does understand. When we give up
certain things. You're giving up certain things is not to
give up something.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
Bigger, Anthony, before you cut me off, right, quicker, friends
on the defensive side of the ball, because you haven't
mentioned the defensive line, and I don't know. You've been
going on and on rant and carry out. So I
hope you still got friends on the defensive side of
the ball.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
No, I said, my watch by the defensive line, So
no that, Oh Ryan Howard?

Speaker 4 (32:48):
Did Ryan Howard play defensive line? It's certain people. You
don't have to mention that. People just appreciate and not
mention them as just the appreciation. Does that make sense.
I'm not a Debbie Dawner like you.

Speaker 6 (33:02):
Okay, just try to crawl yourself out of there. I'm
just saying you ought to give that defensive line a
little public love.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
So so if Tim Cops throws to three hundred and
fifty yards in the game, everybody's oh Tim Cops threw
for three hundred fifty. Now, mind you, if you throw
for two fifty, what's wrong with Tim? If he throws
the three hundred, what's wrong with Tim? But if he
throws the three fifty, nobody's pointing nothing out
