Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome back to Stockyards Bank Sunday morning Sports Talk. I'm
Anthony White, along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught, coming
to you from Clark's Main Street Market studio in downtown Lexington, Kentucky,
Clark's Pumper Shop, Return, Refresh and refuel if you would
like to join the show eight five nine to eight zero,
(00:24):
two to eight seven say five nine to eight zero
cats Larry Vaught Before we went to break, I don't
know if Jack Pilgrim cleared things up for you that
Pat Kelsey and Mark Pope did not actually get into
an altercation, and I did not even did you know
that was a thing to show up at the time
(00:45):
that the recruiting window opens, like right at midnight, So
basically you have to be pulling into the yard at
eleven fifty nine and fifty seconds because if anything prior
to that, you will be over the you will be
in violation. But I was wondering why it was at midnight,
(01:05):
but Jack Pilgrim cleared that up for me.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Well, yeah, they've been doing that and a lot of
coaches where they could first make phone calls do the
same thing at midnight. I guess they let players know
they're going to do that, and they do that also,
but yeah, it just makes me wish they'd go back
to when Big Blue Madness was actually midnight Maddison was
actually at midnight. I know Bow remembers those days and
that was a lot more fun.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I thought, then, well, Bow's up that time. But both
said that we talked off Aaron bo gets up early.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
But uh, I don't sleep. I may be a vampire.
Well sleep during the day. I don't know. I just
haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately. I'm trying to.
There's things that have been busy around here. There will
be a point of your life. You're going to get
a lot of sleep.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I'm just letting you know, so live it, live it up.
Uh and Larry, what why? What was the reason for
changing Big Bloom nightings from midnight Badness. Was there like
a real concern that people were staying up to later
or something for kids or something.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I think it was just a convenience thing, because like
when you had it it at midnight on a Tuesday night,
and people how people have to work and go to
school instead are going to midnight the madness. I think
they decided Okay, let's just change it to where it
can be on a weeknight at whatever, on a weekend
night at what time and all like that. That's why
(02:31):
they did that. But I think the best midnight madness
is a big blue badness. What are you gonna call that?
I ever went to? Involved the ones that were actually
at midnight?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, that's what I think.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
And boat is that mess up the Blues Brothers or
you prefer to midnight? Like I said, I think that's
something that you kind of like. Okay, so the super
Bowl is always is always going to run into your
Monday at work because it's gonna halftime show is gonna
be very long. You're probably gonna partake in beer, beer,
cheese and brought worst and everything.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Else at super Bowl parties. But that is.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
The whole thing of it, Like you know you're gonna
be up late, your boss know you may come in
where they're even thinking about making it a holiday where
people don't have to work on Mondays just because it's
such a big event. When I thought big blue madness
or midnight madness was kind of like that both, but
you or do you prefer it not being at midnight?
Speaker 4 (03:29):
I'm just happy to be in the building. Doesn't matter
what time it is, I will always be there. You
can make at six am in the morning and I.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Will be there, No sir, No, sir, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
If it's at midnight, I will be there. If it's
eight pm on a Saturday night, I will be there.
That is the welcoming the Kentucky basketball season, the opening
of basketball season. For me, I treat it as a holiday.
I will always be there. And by the way, remember
our friend Kevin Cook. Yes, and we had on a
(04:00):
few weeks ago just released the Memorial Coliseum book seventy
five Years as Monument, Stage and Arena. Yes, if you
go through that book, I did make a contribution to
the book on my favorite moment and Memorial Colisseum.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, Larry vaugh you better check that out.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Jack Pilgrim, did you do you have a feeling about
Big Blue Maddness or or Midnight Madness? Have you been
to both?
Speaker 5 (04:36):
I have not seen it in person until midnight, yeah,
or at midnight.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I've seen the format of it in.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
The past, but I have not with my own two
eyes been there to witness the chaos after midnight. But yeah,
I would love to see that. Bring it back to
you know, Memorial Colisseum and amen, do it, do it,
do it the old fashioned way. I think it would
be very cool and fans would really appreciate that. And
like I think the camp out. We haven't had a
(05:08):
you know, legitimate camp out. There's been construction around Memorial
and you know, they've had some type of excuse every
single year why we can't have the traditional camp out.
But if there was one head coach that would just
embrace this cookout and bring, you know, sling pizzas around
everywhere all night and go sign autographs, it'd be Mark Pope.
(05:29):
Mark Pope would would be setting up a tent and
staying with the fans overnight and doing you know, just
getting in the weeds with it. So I think they
got to bring that back. I think Pope needs to
lead the charge and bringing that back. So I'm I'm
I'm all the way for.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
You know, some nostalgia with this.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
By the time Mark Pope leaves Kentucky, I won't guarantee it,
but I just had this hunch that the camp out
will come back and there will be something that happens
at midnight. Just a hunch, no guarante, but Mark Jack
you're right, Mark Pope is somebody that can make that
happen and would embrace it totally.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
UK basketball sids that are listening, make it happen. And
I think Mark Pope will, and I do, Mark Pope
if you're listening, because we were classmates at some point,
we were in school together.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
So make it happen. Bring back midnight madness. Uh.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
But you know when you get old, it's hard to
camp out.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
So is that are we catering to the older generation
like the people calling her say, I've had tickets for
sixty years.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
No, you're catering to the ones who don't have season
tickets that want to get in and see the Kentucky
Wildcats and they make the effort to do it.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
And you know what those are? Those are Jack Pilgrims,
Those are millennials. Those are the youngs.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Know.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Those are the true blue hardcore fans.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
No, because you true blue, you'd have had tickets for
sixty years.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Now. The ones that camp out, those are the real fans.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
And you think people that are seventy years old are
going to be camping out for the tickets.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Yes, they've done it before. I've seen them a.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Lot of them.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Come on, come on, Anthony, Hell do us go as
you're seventy don't mean you can't do some things in life,
you know they don't Just you don't go to bed
at three o'clock in the afternoon and get up at
ten in the morning.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Larry Vaught runs marathons.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, you can still do things.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
No, Larry, seventy is old. My mom is seventy something.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Larry, Yeah, I'm seventy three.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I know I was making funny of you, but after
last week, I can't do that anymore because people I
was an object of ridicrup my back, My troup had
my back. No so uh but Jack Pilgrim, I don't.
I'm not sure how we got this far in the show.
We do have guests lined up and Larry Vaughn, I
(07:48):
got a surprise for you. We do have Josh Katti
is coming on and talk about his shoe drive. Don't
talk about with horsing around.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Horse, Yeah, can't horse around.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Camp horsing around. We gonna talk to him. We got
UK volleyball Kyle Luwongo coming on. He's going to come
on and talk to us about Skinner's winners and the
direction they're going and all the questions we talked about before.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
But Larry Vad, I don't know if you know this
or not.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
You don't know this because I had confirmation last night
because last night I was hanging out with former women's
basketball point guard Erica Jackson, who is now in the
Lexicon African American Hall of Fame. She's gonna come in
with us when you leave at eleven thirty. She's going
to come on eleven thirty and we're going to talk about,
(08:36):
you know, Bernadad Maddocks, and it's a lot of things
that she went through and how she became a Hall
of Famer, and then the show will conclude. But I
should have led the show with the guests. But once
Jack Pilgrim comes off, we have to scrap around and
(08:56):
find someone or not really make it interesting to the people.
But we haven't gotten the check a chance to really
talk Kentucky basketball. And we're gonna have to put a
pin in that because the phone lines are starting to
light up solictly with Jake has to say good morning, Jake,
what do you got for us?
Speaker 6 (09:17):
Good morning, Anthony?
Speaker 7 (09:18):
How are you doing this morning, sir?
Speaker 3 (09:19):
I'm doing pretty good.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
All right. I'm I'm I really I really liked that
that volleyball that was on this past week instead of
the football games. Those were really good as us. I'm
I'm used to jack to Johnny Shot coming on here
and talking about him. Then now I got to hear
here here I'm on the radio. That was really that
(09:44):
was really good.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
And uh and and I'm looking forward to South Carolina.
We're going into South Carolina. They lost thirty one to seven. Anthony,
did you see this?
Speaker 3 (09:58):
I did not. South Carolina lost thirty one to seven.
And what sport football?
Speaker 7 (10:04):
Yesterday?
Speaker 1 (10:07):
South Carolina lost to Missouri twenty nine to twenty.
Speaker 7 (10:12):
Yes, twenty nine to twenty. I thought it was thirty
one to seven.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
No, I heard you want to Vanderbilt and then a
week before against Vanderbilt.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yeah, you may be a week you may be a
week up.
Speaker 7 (10:27):
I think I'm a week behind r I it could be.
But they're zero and three and we're going to make
him owing four it what do you think? Where do
you guys think this score will be?
Speaker 1 (10:41):
See the thing we got going on now, Jake, I
think we fixed our quarterback problems. And I don't know
Larry von if has actually been announced. But I think
we fixed our quarterback problems, and so I do think
we can put points up, and I think that will
give Brad White to his unit and opportunity to get
some rest and come come on the field fresh quite often.
So I think we I think we can think we
(11:02):
can slow down South Carolina and we've had we haven't
had a whole lot of problems slowing a lot of
teams down. The problem we have had putting points on
the board. But I think we've maybe fixed that. Larry Vauck,
Can I convince you about that?
Speaker 6 (11:14):
Maybe?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Not convinced, Not convince me.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Oh so, Jake, I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say we
score in the thirties. I'm saying we maybe thirty five,
and I'm gonna give benefit of doubt. They may score
twenty one. Just twenty one is twenty twenty one, thirty five,
twenty twenty one?
Speaker 3 (11:37):
That work for you, Jake, Yeah, it works.
Speaker 7 (11:43):
I think it'll be higher if Vanderbilt found some thirty
one to seven.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
But vander Bildt just scored seventy yesterday. Vanderbilt is not
the old Vanderbilt you used to every see here's the thing, Jake, Well.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Thanks for the college. Yeah, I appreciate, appreciate the.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Com Sorry, sure, uh, Larry Vaughden, Jack and we gotta
get to break. Where's the thing? Indiana's winning and Jack
talked about that in the first segment. Indiana's winning. Now
Vanderbilt is scoring sixty thirty seventy points. Their fan base, Hey,
our football team can play. Our fan base is against us. Well,
you know we're running into the wind. Our fan base
(12:19):
gives we don't have a chance. But Vanderbilder is out
here scoring seventy points. We'll be back after this. You're
listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news
Radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 8 (12:30):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the Lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
This guy doesn't miss Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning
Sports Talk on Anthony White along with Larry Vaught and
Jack Pilgrim and Bo Robinson. Hit the nail on the
head every time. If you play, if you played middle linebacker,
you would be Mike Single Terry, don't miss, don't miss,
be coming there, Bamn don't.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Miss good job.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Bo Roberts, Well, thank you, because Larry vaugh and Jack
Pilgrim can't be convinced anything. Indiana fans Vanderbilt fans are giddy,
they're happy, they're excited. Larry vad Jack Pilgrim. Our fan
base wants our coach gone. They want our coach to
be replaced by a coach that just lost by thirty.
But it's cool, it's cool, It's all right, Jack Pilgrim.
(13:28):
We are a basketball school. What's going on in UK basketball?
Speaker 6 (13:32):
Since?
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Like I said, November eleventh is a big blue madness?
So we're right around the corner. There ain't been a
whole lot of buzz, but I don't think that's Mark
Pope style. You know, we're in the new regime. But
we do know that we're expecting. We always expect number
nine every well, until we get number nine, do we'll
start expecting the number ten. But we are looking for
(13:54):
number nine. What's going on with UK basketball right now?
Since we're right around the corner from the tip off, Yeah,
we're back at fall practice.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
In fact, this week will mark the official beginning of
pre season practice and the inc double.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
As I so up to this point.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
They got back late August, you know, starting of early
September for a couple of pre pre pre season practices.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
If you will.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
And so we'll go from eight hours per week allowed
to twenty hours per week for the full ramp up
leading up up to the season. So yeah, it's a lot,
a lot of fun stuff at the Joe Craft Center,
kind of ramping up from the teaching and fundamental side
of things to all right, now let's start, you know,
really scrimmaging and hammering home some of our like, hey,
(14:45):
this is our rotation.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
This is how things are going to look.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
This is what we should expect to for the start
of the season here in you know, in late October
for exhibition games and then obvious at the start of
November for for regular season games.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
So we're we're we're here, man, we're basketball season in
the n C.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
Douaa's eyes begins this this upcoming week when when the
practice moves up to twenty hours per week. So a
lot of good things that I've heard coming from practice.
Jalen Lowe apparently is just absolutely spectacular. A couple other
good things hearing about Trentoah, you know, Cam Williams is
really stepping up. So some good, good, intel, good whispers
(15:23):
and rumblings come out of the Joe Craft Center that
that should have Kentucky fans feeling pretty pretty pretty excited
going into these next couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Speaking of excitement against Purdue. Exhibition game against Purdue, what
do you what? And I don't I'm not going to
do Larry Vall. I'm not going to have you do math,
but if you can, what is going to be the
starting lineup when we tip off against Purdue? What do
you think it would be. I'm not going to hold
you to this and I'm not going to ridicule you
(15:51):
if you're wrong, But what would you have it being.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
I would put a good bit of money on the
first lineup that we see being Jalen Lowe, Denzel Aberdeen,
Otega Oway, Mo Diabate, and Brandon Garrison. I think it's
just kind of the safe, hey, we know kind of
what all of them bring to the table. You know,
we got final four players coming from other SEC opponents
(16:17):
and returning talent from from last year's Sweet Sixteen roster
for Kentucky. And then at point guard who the staff
believes is a surefire superstar in Jalen Low. So I
think that's a pretty safe bet, and I think it's
a pretty safe bet that that will adjust as the
season goes on. I think that number two spot with
Aberdeen is pretty up in the air. I could see
(16:39):
a scenario where that gets filled by Colin Chandler. I
could see a scenario where you know, a couple other guys,
maybe Otaga slides up and you know, Cam Williams jumps
in there and plays the three, or you know, Trent
Noah has been unbelievable in practice that he could kind
of carve out a role and you know, do his
thing in the lineup. So you know what happens with
(17:00):
Jasper Johnson. He's kind of a super high, high ceiling
kid who's going to obviously make an impact as a
shot maker. You know, are there going to be times
where Pope says, hey, we need a guy to go
in and make shots right now?
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Is he the go to guy at the three?
Speaker 5 (17:13):
So a lot of mixing and matching there. That the
kind of middle of the two and three spots. But
I think, well that's the lineup we'll see to start
the year, and then as we as Yellowvich kind of
gets more comfortable. I could see him sliding in there
at the four and then obviously, when Jade Quaintons gets
back to full strength, I expect him to take over
(17:33):
as the team starting five, and hopefully he stays that
way through next April at the final four, and then
we see him go on to be a top five
draft picks. His talent suggests he can become.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
So quaintins is still he is. He's banged up.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Well, he coming off of torn acl so yeah, I
would say banged up is probably a good description there.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
But he is getting.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
There in terms of, you know, not at full contact,
but he's doing non contact stuff and he's you know,
really testing himself and you know, the test that they're
doing on his knee suggests that he's you know, it's
it's almost back to full strength. Now it's about trusting it. Now,
it's you know, hey, what how far can we test
it before you know, we get a little too overly
(18:22):
aggressive about it. So I think we're definitely in that
sweet spot of, hey, we don't be surprised if we
start seeing videos of him running and dunking and doing
some interesting stuff while also keeping it super super super
cautious because it's the end reward for him, not not
what he can bring to the table in November.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
We're we're worried about what.
Speaker 6 (18:41):
He can bring to the table in March and April.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
So keep him healthy, get him healthy, keep him healthy
is priority number one and two for our pope.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
The season, h Larry Vaught, we have to lose Jack
in a second, we got a couple minus for a break?
Is it is it officially basketball season for you? Because
I can't convince what is been four weeks now? I
can't convince you that we have a football team.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Are you converted to basketball? Is in basketball season?
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Yet? For us at the You're gonna have to learn
in today's world it's basketball season, football season, volleyball season.
Every day of the years is jacket heayre's, there's recruiting,
there's different things going on. So I don't ever think
as one season stop stops at another one starts that
it's all go year round.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Josh, I didn't say that when we come back we'll
have UK tied end Josh Katson talk about the shoe drive.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
We'll be back after this year.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday, wonted Sports Talk on news
Radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 8 (19:40):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop FORDGE Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught. Stockyards Bank has been your
trusted partner since nineteen you know, for so head on
over to syb dot com for all of your banking
and financial needs. Larry Vault, we are trying to get
in contact with Josh Cattis to talk about Shoe Drive.
(20:15):
But in the meanwhile, I'm not going to disrespect the
program and I'm not going to disrespect Josh himself. But
our football team has a game coming up next week's
second SEC game, and you and Jack Pilgrim did not
think that we can win that game. But we have
(20:36):
a lively conversation going on on social media because I
brought up the success that Vanderbilt is having and Indiana's having.
But we'll put a pen in that because we do
have Josh and now we are proud to have our
tight end and humanitarian Josh Cattis on the show with us.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Good morning, mister Cattis.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
I was going, I'm doing great. How are you guys doing?
Speaker 3 (21:02):
We are doing good?
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Just start off with is there anything you can't do?
Speaker 2 (21:07):
You?
Speaker 1 (21:07):
You raised money last time the Warrior you were uh
you had a little dog easy animals? No, No, I
thought he was doing dog. He's and animals too well.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
He does the.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Hist he was doing with the Stars performance.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
Yeah, I think I think my golf shot could use
My golf swing could use some work.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Do you.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Uh who's uh the former player that was probably your
grad assistant.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yeah, told me he's really good at golf.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
CJ. Connor's good at golf?
Speaker 1 (21:45):
What I thought that? Or he's better than Ann war
Let me say that there. I bet you he's just better.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
Than I don't. I don't remember. I don't remember if
CJ was good at golf or not. That's something I'm
gonna have to ask him at some point, though I
did not know that.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Yeah, josh if you're feeling bad about your golf game,
just go play around with your defensive line.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
Be bad. I haven't coaches, but I'll have to bring
that up to them.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Okay, So, so Joshua talk about camp horsing around?
Speaker 6 (22:21):
What uh?
Speaker 3 (22:22):
What brought that about? And how that you have that
become a thing.
Speaker 6 (22:27):
Yeah, it was just uh one of our coaches brought
it up to me and just said, would you you
know you'd be willing to to kind of help pioneer this,
and you know, camp horsing around supports kids whose health
has been compromised and just kind of lets them have
fun and safe camp. And you know, actually Faith who's
(22:50):
the one who would kind of helped me with the
whole thing. She's actually like best family friends with with
Cutter's parents. And then that that connection was there as well.
So I'm really grateful that I got the opportunity though.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
It was a lot of fun and words.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Say, how did the shoe drive go? Did you get
the response you were hoping for?
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Yeah? They went very well. I think within like probably
ten or fifteen minutes, the truck was like fully loaded up.
I don't know how many shoes total yet. I don't
know if they've counted them upyet or not, but the
truck was completely packed.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Josh, was there any say surprises or you know, people
who showed up or amount that someone like wow, you know,
because that's kind of what I do with the school system,
help out families.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
And need or whatever.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Was there any surprises throughout that, like oh so and
so donated or I think.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Just I think just some of the coaches. I know,
Coach Grant helped me a lot. He brought a really
big bag of shoes. Even some of our academic peaceeople
that works, uh work up upstairs in our football facility,
you know that. I think those kind of surprised me
because they had a lot of shooters.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
And what was your what was your location? Was it
Drakes or did you move around here?
Speaker 6 (24:14):
Yeah? We were kind of we were kind of right
in the front parking lot of Drakes, kind of towards
I would say, if you're facing away from Drakes, like
the left corner. Okay, So yeah, it went very well though.
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
And what kind of amazes me, Anthony about this is
before this even got it organized and what was I
guess in the works Josh was already named to the
All Sight American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team because
of all the other charitable things he's done over his career.
(24:53):
And I know, Josh, you don't do those things for recognition,
and you probably just kind of accepted as a way
of life and think that everybody does all the stuff
that you do, But that's still a pretty darn incredible
honor to receive, knowing that you're also a full time
football player.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
No, Yeah, it was an incredible honor be one of
eleven and just get to see the Kentucky greats who
had all been named to the team before me. To
be among that list, it definitely meant a lot to me.
It means a lot to me.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
How did you ever get started going to visit the
children's hospital.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Like you did?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
And when you first started, did you ever anticipate that
would be something you'd be doing every week from then? Oh?
Speaker 6 (25:37):
I guess I'd always kind of like dealing with kids.
And then I remember hearing about I don't know, I
remember hearing CJ do something along the lines of the
same thing. I forget what they called it, but I
remember seeing that hearing about that, and like what Luke
(25:57):
Fordner would do with with the children's hospital, and I
just kind of wanted to do my do the same
thing and pick it up and try at least make
sure there's something that's pretty uh that that that lasts,
you know, far beyond uh my years here and it's
been it's been a lot of fun, and it's it
(26:18):
turns into like a tradition. We get to see, you know,
with like a week or week or so ago, we
got to see a kid ring the bell and it's
and and that was someone that I had seen early
on in his stages of what he was dealing with. Uh,
and just getting to see that progression and all that
like it. It It truly does lighten up our day.
(26:38):
And and as much as we can make an impact
on these kids, you know, that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
And josh do you do you have a couple of
players that you're training and working with now so that
when you're going after this year, somebody will be continuing
the work that you've been doing.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
Yeah, I would hope. Right now, Willy Willie Roder guys
has been coming with me and my brother would come,
but he kind of has to work around his class
class schedule. So an ideal world, those two guys can
kind of take it over next year.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
And Joshua I played in the Shrine Bowl back in
the nineteen hundreds or was it two thousand, Actually it
may have been. It might have been just on the
tail end of nineteen hundred and we got to we
got to well, that's part of it being in the
Shrine Bowl to going to the Shriners Hospital in Northern California,
and that is you once you go to one of
those hospitals and see, you know, the way the kids
(27:35):
look at you, and you're a bigger You're a bigger
guy than I am. So when they look up at you,
just the look on their face.
Speaker 6 (27:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
And now in lexing, I've worked with the Easter Seals.
So but how often do you get to go back
to I would love to do it more, but you
have to practice. You have classes, and you spread yourself
all over because like I said, you do dances with stars,
you you do animal hospital, I mean you do the
animal adoptions. How often do you get to visit the hospitals? Uh,
(28:07):
and see the kids because I'm sure you feel as
I do, to see the smile and the facing.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
The way they go and light up when you when
you visit.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Yeah, we just tried to do it every week of
the season ever ever since I've been here, ever since
I've been a freshman. So like we go, whether that
was Tuesday my freshman year, Wednesday this year, it's Thursday
at nine thirty. We just try to go spend an
hour to an hour and a half between our busy
(28:36):
schedules and uh, that's kind of the time and day
that works best for us. So yeah, it's it's it's
definitely hard to get fit, fitting it in, fitting around
like some of these younger guys class schedules, because I
myself and like Aid and la Ross, like we're we're
kind of fishing up our our time here at school
(29:00):
and got to be ready to graduate. But it is
just awesome getting to getting to take a little bit
of time out of your week to go go visit
and spend time with them. So that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
So Josh, halt, do the kids ask you about what's
going on on the field, like when you visited last
week or when you visit this week, are they going
to be asking you bet South Carolina? Are they just
happy to see you and could care less who you're playing,
when you're playing or anything.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
I think most of them could honestly care less, but
they're just really happy to get to hang around some
football players. And then you obviously have some people that
are like like big time fans and they watch all
the games and all that. But you know, the biggest
thing we do, we just make sure we have it.
We bring them some like Kentucky signs stuff from some
(29:51):
of their favorite players and give that to them, and
it's just talk whether they're whether they're into football or
whether they're into I don't know, Tennant. It's like just
going and spending time with them, you know, whether they're
going to watch the football game or on.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
And Josh, I want you to understand this.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
And I'm not like Larry Vauden a lot of other people, Josh,
because back when I was in college, one of our
one of my teammates got injured, so he stopped playing
football and he was working with alternative school. And I
think it might've been my sophomore year where I started
actually starting. I became to start running back. He said,
can you come talk to our kids. I went to
a school downtown, Josh, and they said, this is anything
(30:28):
why he plays for the University of Kentucky. First kid, ooh,
ooh ooh, got his hand up in the airone and
ask me a question. This joker says, man, why y'all
so sorry? I was like, wow, uh, give us a
chance to turn these things around, so least into gotta
thought about with Larry Vaught said, but where's you. I
(30:50):
know that's not really we're not here to really talk
about football, but I do have to ask because there's
a lot of people who feel like last year it's
kind of spilling over to this year as a mindset
change for you all this year and going into South
Carolina game, are you guys ready to to change things
around because there's some people who don't believe. I'm not
gonna say any names, Josh, I believe in y'all, there's
some people who don't know.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
Yeah, I uh, we're we're We're obviously aware that there's
a there's a lot of people that you know, are
doubting us and thinking we can't get the get the
job done. But that's not something we talk about or
even flinch about when we're in the football facility. We're
just worried about, uh, getting wins on Saturdays. And I
(31:37):
truly believe everyone in the building, like to their heart
knows that that this is something that we can get done.
And Uh, I think it's gonna it's it's gonna be
an exciting game. It's a fun atmosphere. Uh, they're gonna
have something to prove after Uh, they just they've lost
too in a row. Like they're they're gonna be ready
(31:58):
to play, and we're we're ready for that. We're excited,
We're excited for the challenge, and you know, we're just
embracing that.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
And my my last question, just because I've on this
show for weeks, everybody's at my head, old miss game.
You guys, I thought you guys played well, that was
a game that I had you guys winning. You guys
didn't win it. But what was what was that film session?
Like it was that something like, wow, we left I
feel like we left a lot on the table and
(32:26):
the game we should have easily won. But what was
the mood inside of the locker room, if you are allowed, I.
Speaker 6 (32:34):
I just I think it was pretty good runching because
we did we truly did believe that game should have
been ours. You know, we had multiple opportunities to win
that game, and those are like that, those are the
worst feelings of when you lose. It's like, I mean,
if you go and get blown out, you're just like whoa,
they were just about like no, we we we truly
(32:55):
believed that we should have won that game, and we
left a lot out there on the table. So you know,
it made us, It made us mad, it made us angry,
but we know we still have a lot of season
ahead of us. So we're going to hang our hats
on that loss, and uh, we're just gonna keep going offense.
Took a took a big step the next week, and
you know, and we got to do that now against
another quality s to see opponent.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Hey, Josh, I ife thing I've got for you as
I'm glad that you and Willie have kind of broke
this mode for tight ends our kitchen ball. We all
are kitchen a lot asays and everything like that, but
I want you to kind of tell tell our listeners
and tell me and Anthony the truth right there. I
mean you all roomed with Cutter. I mean, do you
all sit there and spend all day every week just
telling Cutter? Okay, come on, I'll take care of us,
(33:38):
well made take care of us. We'll fix dinner for you.
I mean, what's the conversations like when you do live
with a quarterback that you're wanting to throw you the ball?
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Hellop, we may have lost him.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Oh, I didn't want to answer.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
That's right, that is right.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
You know, well, he is driving. He went to see
his brother play football this weekend, and God bless him
take his week help to go to that because you
know who his brother plays for. No place for Clemson. Oh,
Clemson obviously had a rough day yesterday. Right, So but
(34:20):
Josh is driving home right now, so he might be
in an area where we've lost him. So right as
I wanted to get him to spill the beans there
on cutter, how.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Ironical was that? But no, thanks Josh for spending some time.
Good hands seem on the team and good hands the
thing that he does for the public and the community.
We will continue the show after this break. You're listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news radio.
Speaker 8 (34:43):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Boorde Radio Network on six thirty.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
W l A P six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White Long.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Larry Vaut.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
And being the guy that is, Josh Caatis did not
avoid the question, so we got him back. I don't
know the slacks. The slacks run your uh your cell
phone services. She controlled your cell phone.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
She might driving them driving through the mountains in like
North Carolina right now. So I think it cut out,
But I remember what I was saying. It was about.
I think cutter Cutter did a really good job Eastern
Michigan game. And you know a lot of those passes
that I caught on the sideline early in the game,
I mean those, if those were thrown anywhere else like,
(35:37):
they probably were unketchable. And so he put two really
good passes in the air and he played really well.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
But you guys had to promise to fix dinner for
him or anything getting to hold the ball to you.
Speaker 6 (35:50):
Or we used to we used to do something like that.
We used to do like Sunday night dinner and everyone
would have to everyone have to cook man. But he
actually he hasn't been asking too much right as recently.
But maybe that's a good idea. I'll have to I'll
have to think about that.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
And Josh, go ahead, Larry, No, go ahead, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
No.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I was gonna say, uh, you know see, and I
was in that position for a long time. You you
played a lot as a youngster, but to watch uh
to watch cutter kind of sit back and you know,
wait for his time and how you have any idea
how tough that was or do you guys talk about
it or keep them convinced that now your time is coming,
because you know there's a new age man with the
(36:34):
transport portal and all those other things. People don't want
to sit and be idle when they felt like they
should be playing.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
Yeah, I mean, he's he's very patient man. He's a
he's just a hard worker. He's a kid that puts
his his heat down and works. Uh, and he knew
he knows he's gonna have a shot at some point.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
And and does uh.
Speaker 9 (36:57):
Good days of practice leading up to the game. And
I think we are losing you. Yeah, and we don't
appreciate the call. And thanks for joining us for a
little bit, Josh.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
We having a lot of phone difficulties, but we have
to get to a break anyway, So we appreciate Josh
Katis for spending some of his time with us. Explain
some of the things that he does in community, and
Larry Vaught that list of things that he does for
the community, and as strenuous as a.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
College athlete schedule is Josh does.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Tons of things, and we had more time, I would
have liked to had him speak of some of those things.
But Larry Vaught, how remarkable is that.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
It's just mind boggling to me that he can do
all the things he has to do in conjunction with
his football work and then still be able to get
out and do the things he does and contribute in
so many different ways. Kind of similar to what JJ
Weaver did a couple of years ago when he did
so many different things. And it's just really cool to
(38:06):
see a young man willing to make all those sacrifices
and do what he does to help so many others
and came forcing around to something I know a lot about.
I know what he did for them and really really
special and they really appreciate what he's doing.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
When we come back, we're gonna have one of Skinner's
winner's assistants, Kyle Luongo, was gonna talk UK volleyball when
we come back. At the top of the hour, you
were listening to Stockyards Banks Sunday one in sports talk
on news radio six thirty WLAP
