Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Borte Radio Network on six point thirty
w LAP.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim, coming to
you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios and beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
I think the air is off in this building, but
were gonna make it because it's gonna be a hot

(00:31):
show anyhow. Larry Vaught, how are you doing.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Well? I'm doing okay, Anthony.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
I've been down in St. Augustine. I went on a
wonderful dolphin cruise with Fury Water Adventures this week, maybe
the best dolphin cruse I've ever been on. I've had
some really good seafood. I found a new little French
bakery down here that I didn't know existed at Saint Augustine's,
opened a couple of years ago with a couple from

(00:59):
Fran been pastry chefs for over thirty years. And the
weather's nice.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
On the beach this morning was Tyreek Hill there.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
I didn't see no at be a place he would enjoy.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
So what dolphins were there. Uh, Tua was Tura there?

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Tua wasn't there. These are just the dolphins that frolic
in the water out here all the time. And as
a first dolphin cruise I've.

Speaker 6 (01:23):
Ever been on.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
When we went to get on the on the catamaran,
the young lady that was checking us in says she
would guarantee, guarantee we would see dolphins. I've never had
anybody tell me that. And as soon as I got
on the cameraan and sat down, I knew why because
the dolphins were swimming wiped beside us right there before
we even left the dock.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
So you missed out on the chicken fests.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
I did miss chicken Fest.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yes, I was going to go, but our game was
that night. Well we performed at night. I don't know
if there was much.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Of a game. Uh, but we will talk about that.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Jack peel, I want And I did get a really
good pep talk from coach b Rorobisentral. We've been on
air this morning, so I appreciated that too.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
He came and gave me one as well.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
He can't he's trying.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
He's all sorts of torno. We're gonna render, will you
know what? You're gonna be surprised to me today, Larry Bo.
You will be surprised at me, Jack Bill grow, how
was your weekend so far?

Speaker 7 (02:25):
You said, we performed last night? What what? What kind
of performance? What would you would you classify that?

Speaker 6 (02:31):
Ass?

Speaker 5 (02:32):
I know I said there was a game, not change
it to performance. You do?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
You do realize if you go watch a performance, whether
it's good or bad, as a performance, if you're if
you're not good at doing, the game will be the
competition of each other. A performance is you are you performing?
You may not be good. I can go out and
dance do dances on Dances with the Stars and be terrible, but.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
I perform it.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
But I would I would rather see you on Dancing
with the Stars than whatever we watched last night. So yeah,
I'm hoping that the NFL slate is, you know, kind
of just gets the bad taste of football out of
my mouth because right now, Buddy, I am just pretty
pretty fed up with the sport in general.

Speaker 6 (03:13):
So yeah, we need to talk. We we gotta. We
got to talk through our feelings this morning.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
And yes, Larry, I agree that that therapy, little kind
of pet talk getting us ready from bow kind of
set the tone. I feel a lot better hearing hearing
bow letting us regrew before saying anything that we're gonna
end up regretting.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
So thank you to both of that.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
But Jack, you do realize the NFL slate has already
started right today.

Speaker 7 (03:39):
Actually not for another twenty minutes. But we got we
got says nine.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
I thought he said nine or five?

Speaker 6 (03:45):
Nine thirty in Dublin.

Speaker 7 (03:47):
I'm looking forward to who's playing quarterback for the Vikings?

Speaker 6 (03:51):
Carson wentz.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Really wow. See anyhow, we we got a lively show.
We're gonna have Kyle Macie to come on to talk
about his book signing with John Wong out on South
Wind Drive. We will have him on at eleven o'clock
if he's not too busy, because that Larry Vaught does

(04:13):
a good job of setting up our interviews, but it
is awful close to this beginning of the signing, so
he's either there setting up or on his way there.
But he was a partner of ours long time ago,
Larry Vaught on these on this very show, so hopefully
he won't be too busy to join us. And if

(04:33):
he does, I understand, and that's a good that's a
good part Larry Vaught.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Isn't it.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, it's been a while with Kyle, but we did
have some good shows with him, So that'd be a
nice little break to talk a little rough legends, referenda
legends with Kyle when we get to eleven o'clock before them.
Anxious to see what maybe a lot of people are feeling,
because my social media timeline and text messages were not

(05:06):
were pretty similar lift night and it wasn't very positive.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Well, I'm not giving out the phone. I'm not giving
out the phone, Nuber. We're not taking calls today. I
don't care to hear what people.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
The phone lines don't work.

Speaker 7 (05:18):
I mean it works for YouTube, Larry and Jack, but
I've been in here since six am trying to work
on the phone lines and they just.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Don't work now.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
To be in all honesty, my metro net did go
down yesterday morning. I think that was a sign not
to watch the game. But Jack Pilgrim, I'm going to
apologize to you and Larry, not in a bad way
because and I talked to Bow about this, and you
watched Van House breakdown throughout the week, watch Van House
breakdowns throughout the week. I'm frustrated. I've lost my optimism

(05:48):
and support. But I did see there were opportunities because
as a player, I never go into the locker room
or come in on Monday thinking well, this is over.
And now as a fan base, I think you should
be frustrated and maybe think it's over and it's time
for a change. And I'm not going to argue with
anybody who feels that way. Let me say that up front,
Jack Larry Callers. If you think it's time for a change,

(06:11):
you feel the time. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, but
I'm not gonna argue with you. So I can see
why you would feel that way. I'm just saying from
a player standpoint, and we look at what happened on
the gay I think, if Pete jumps on that and
this is this is not me trying to sugarcoat it.
Both told me to find a silver lining. I think,
if Pete jumps on that first fumble and it's not

(06:32):
scooped and scored, we punt the ball back them up.
I think Brad White, I don't think. I don't think
that things snowball because I don't think we come off
the next possession and try to get back the points
that we lost on the scoop and score because that's
the competitive nature of a quarterback. So that is all
I want to have to say about that. On the
positive matter, Bow, So I got the positive part out

(06:52):
the way. If that hopefully that made you feel better.
Other than that, Jack, I'm you, guys, and most of
the fan base feels that it's time for a change.
Mark isn't getting any better at his job as far
as coaching and preparing and executing.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Some of the players aren't either. I give you that.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
At this point, I kind of sympathize with the fan
base because I feel as if everything that I've supported
Mark Stoops, and I've tried to get the fan base
to respect and support Mark Stoops.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
For his winning the bar he's raised.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Now you're starting to chip away at that the foundation
you set, You're starting to chip and nobody's ever articulated
this way. If he had been articulated, If Jack, if
you were to tell me, because I know you've been
trying to say this to me all along, but and
so that's why I apologize to you. But it is
more so the foundation he set is what I respect.

(07:48):
The monument he's built. But at this point some of
the bonehead things the pitch you will and I don't.
And this is I had a conversation with my co
host last night. I don't know if they she will
with script it or the players just said let's just
go ahead and do this. But by doing that, the
offensive coordinator. Either way, the offensive coordinator takes the brunt.

(08:11):
You take the brunt of it because if you didn't
call it, you should be in their tails. If you
did call it, Mark Steus should be in your tail
because you could have got somebody hurt. There was another
fumble that bad boy could have been scooped and scored.
So Jack Pilgrim, I don't know if you're picking up
what I'm putting down. So I see what you've been saying.
As a player, I don't cash all my chips in

(08:34):
at this point, but I can get behind and I'm
not gonna argue. When I say I'm not gonna argue
means that I'm above arguing with you. I'm saying I
sympathize and appreciate your arguments is where I'm coming from today.
So I understanding that before you start jumping at me,
and you told me so and I don't care if
you can beat me up. I got thick skin, I
don't have a helmet on. But but uh, a lot

(08:58):
of you guys gonna say I was right. Actually, if
you go back and watch the film as a team
and you watch van House breakdowns, you will see a
player two there. I know that's been the whole lantaje
all year long, maybe the past two years, but we
need to make those player too. I'm assuming you're gonna say.

Speaker 7 (09:16):
Jack, Yeah, well it's a good thing. We get to
go back to work, we get to regroup, and I'm
proud of this group and I think they're going to
be better. And yeah, all of the cut and pace
comments that we've heard for the last four straight losses

(09:36):
against South Carolina, I believe we are now five and
ten coming off a bye week against SEC competition, six
and eleven. Overall, just the stats and just go down
the list. It's a weird level of apathy right now, because, like,
you go into a game like that and you see

(09:56):
all of the things pointing toward Kentucky going down to
Columbia and stealing a win, Like there there was a
lot on paper that suggested that Kentucky could go down
there and win that game. Like that's why you had
Josh Pate and some of the other national talking heads saying,
you know, putting South Carolina on an upset alert, saying like, hey,

(10:16):
you know that Kentucky has a you know, physical tough
you know up front front seven ground game is really impressive.
They'll be able to you know, run run up and
down the field on this you know South Carolina banged
up South Carolina team, Like there's a lot pointing in
their favor. But I could never buy in any of
it because it's Mark Soup's coming off a bye week,
and what happened it was the exact same script We've

(10:40):
seen over and over and over again. We have seen
this Kentucky and four straight matchups against South Carolina get
outscored by sixty points against mister Sunglasses themselves. So yeah,
I am just as apathetic toward this program as you
could possibly be.

Speaker 6 (10:55):
Right now. Nothing surprises me. The result last night.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
Yeah, one play here, one play, They're one play everywhere.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
Don't care anymore.

Speaker 7 (11:02):
It is it is same same old song and dance,
and unfortunately the dance with Shane Beamer is in the
locker room after every single game. So yeah, I'm I'm
pretty pretty defeated right now watching this pretty horrific product.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Larry vaugh what do you need to see concluding this
season cleaner play progress? Because obviously we both know at
least this season, nothing's gonna happen in Mark Stoops. I
don't think nothing's gonna happen to Mark Stoops next season either,
And I'm not mad about it because I'm not winning
the pony up. I don't I don't even have one

(11:37):
million dollars, let alone however many million dollars it will
take him at the end of this season. But Larry vaud,
I do know this, and I'm not proud of and
I don't think Cutter should be proud of his performance yesterday.
I also know how my first start on the road
was as a nineteen year old in Tuscaloosa, first game

(12:00):
I ever had in any sport and throughout my whole life,
and it couldn't define you or whatever. But I do know,
and I'm this is this is just sports talk, This
is just football talk, because this is a football show.
I do know that the more reps he's get, he
should become Sharper. So getting your head beat up is
always not a bad thing. Now, if you just are
outmatched and you just can't compete at this level, you

(12:23):
know you're not strong enough, not fast enough, not smart enough,
then that you know that will make itself evident as
the time goes on. But having a tough performance typically
sharpens you as a player. The more of them you have,
the better you should get. So I'm not really tough
on Cutter now. And what I don't want to hear
anyone who said last week, oh see, Cutter was a

(12:46):
was an answer, and now say bench Cutter like I said,
if you were thought Cutter was an answer last year,
let's just get him some more reps, let's see how
he progresses, or we think we go back to Zach.
What do you need to see, Larry Vauche, you've been
around for WAFF a lot of times.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Well, it's an interesting dilemma right now, Anthony, because you're
looking for some reason to try to see optimism, and
then you look at the rest of the season and
who's on the schedule. It's kind of hard to see.
But yeah, I think I mean, I'm with you. I
think you still got to stick with Cutter if you
thought he was the reason that you could get some

(13:24):
offense going, I don't think he can bail on him yet.
And it looked to me like, I hope kind of
ball to your expertise on this. The Cutter came out
pretty confident. He might have tried to force the polo
too early that maybe he shouldn't have tried to force,
but that Cutter thinking he can make plays. And I
think you want your quarterback to have a little bit
of swagger that I think when he got rocked there

(13:45):
some in the second quarter that he lost some of
that confidence and became hesitant with something that I normally
have never seen out a Cutter. And hopefully that'll get
better as he goes forward. But I think you just
have to see this team just kind of still just
kind of dig down and do something unexpected, which we

(14:06):
really haven't seen from him yet. And I know Mark
talk after the game that Hey knows the team is
better than what they're playing and all this, and maybe
that's true, but they've got to start showing some of that.
And I do wonder, just like you did, I was
kind of surprised that when you and I were going
back for a little bit on social media last night
about it. If Pete just files on that fumble and

(14:29):
it's not picked up and returned for a touchdown and
they punt, what could the game of en? I know,
if that's the old iffing game, and I don't like that.
But telling Anthony, you've been out there on the field,
You've seen guys fumble, You've seen guys recover fumbles. How
they do not recover that fumble?

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Always got to do follow on it?

Speaker 2 (14:47):
If he just claps to his knees. The funny thing
was Larry, and I don't know the dynamics of why
he didn't get it if he never reached his arms out,
like what was he planning on doing?

Speaker 5 (14:56):
It was his eyes not focused on the ball. That
was just the crazy.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
He was standing right over top of it and just
fell down right next to it.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
He never even reached his arms out to corral the ball.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
And this is I mean, I guess it is a
knock on the kid because you were right there by yourself.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
But I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
And there was a certain point, you know, you know
what my model has been for many years on this show,
and I'm not going to repeat it.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
But yeah, it was just the weirdest thing.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
And I do think that changes the way the game
goes because we still have a lead. I think our
defense is still confident. But I think the next possession
Cutter came out and tried to make up for that mistake,
and I think that's what led to the pick six.
But we will continue this show after the break. You're
listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on News
Radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the Lead Troop for its radio network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim. Stockyards Bank
is your trusted partner since nineteen oh four. You know
what else is your trusted partner? Kyle Macon and John Wong.
He'll be it mc mccloyd's Coffee Shop on South Clouds

(16:16):
McCloud's Yes Coffee Shop on Softening Drive at twelve pm
to sign and talk at. Kyle is a good storyteller.
I know we're talking football. I'm not trying to avoid this.
Don't start texting me, No, we need to talk about
this game. You need you need to eat some crow.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
But you know what, we have three hours to talk
about a football game.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
And we're only gonna have Kyle for fifteen minutes, so
we'll get it all in from the Raptors rough. That's
what everybody ever know about it? Right around the bard
is Jack great time? In two weeks is Jack Pilgrim time?
You ever heard a mill of time? I mean country
boy time? Sorry sorry sorry d H. And I mean
you ever heard of country boy time?

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
So from the Raptors we'll be on Southland Drive with
Kyle and John at twelve, but we will have Kyle
on at eleven. But right now the phone lines are
lit up. We were joking both work or tirelessly to
get the phone lines working, so they are working. You
can join eight five nine two eight seven two two

(17:16):
eight see nine eight five nine two eight zero two
two eight seven eight five nine two eight zero cats.
Let's get to the phone lines and see what Larry
has to say. Good morning, Larry, what you got for us?

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Larry? Hey?

Speaker 8 (17:34):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Got you?

Speaker 8 (17:37):
You know I picked some earlier like between four and
five wins I might have back up maybe a little
more now you know what I was. I've always bought
Mark States. But you know, it's kind of getting to
the point now that matter how you like the guy,
you know, you may be the writings on the wall.
You know, it seems like it, uh every year, you know,

(18:00):
like y'all said, we come off bye week, got I
nearly think we beat out cent some reasons, old sunglasses
got got this number. Anyway, you know, ever since he
kind of made fun of the ou out of the sunglasses,
we we ain't done very good. But but you know,
it just amazes me how these other schools. Of course,
you know, Arkansas may be just as bad as us,

(18:21):
you know, but some of those schools like Bandy and that,
these those schools who look around now now, I don't
know whether Vanderbier is going to be able to keep
their coach, you know, but uh, it just amazed me
that that Kentucky. I'm sitting there thinking, oh, you know,
why can't we have a program like some of those.
I don't expect us to win a title or nothing
like that. I would be happy for eight wins. I

(18:43):
mean a lot of people get bad and I say
that but reality is the SEC is just going to
cannibalize themselves. I mean, I'm looking at these big schools.
I met Georgia fans ain't very happy this morning losing Alabama.
You know, I don't think Kirby's record against him is
too good. But those so many powerhouses in the SEC.
It's got so big that I mean, I'll look at

(19:04):
our schedule and then how many When do you really say, personally,
I mean you the way things are, I mean, we
play a bunch of powerhouses coming up, and you know,
it's just reality is that at Kentucky. You know, I
go back to the history of Kentucky and you know
we've had some good savings, but but a handful of them.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Larry, we have to get to a break.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I will we will discuss that what we see coming forward,
because I did have one of these wins between Old
miss or South Carolina on our schedule, and now it's
tough to find one. But we will continue that conversation.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
LAP Welcome Back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
Anthony White along with Larry and Jack Pilgrim. This over
sunny one in Sports Talk is brought to you by
country Boy Brewing.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
The phone lines have been fixed and they are read hot.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
But before we go through, I did want to talk
about what Larry from Levinon called in and said, Jack Pilgrim,
he thinks Beemer has his number. I don't know if
sunglass statement made Beamer upset or if Mark just should have.
But I don't know if you picked up on this one,
Larry or Jack. But his questions for Jack, this dude
is out here practicing against you a drop kick kickoff,

(20:34):
then you call a time out to stop a ten
second run off that we didn't have a play set
up that you were gonna call, even if we reserved
the time for before at the end of the half,
before he went pitch you whoo, and then he calls
the time out.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
He was just doing little smart stuff the whole game.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Like me.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Mark Stoops is a better guy than I. But Mark
Stoop's probably looking at his pocketbook and says, I make
more to you little fella, calm down. But I don't know, man,
I might have I might have got physical with old
Beamer from do you do realize the drop kick is
something that you can practice, that in practice you can practice.
He practices it in the middle of the game, Jack Pipper, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
Beamer make Stoop's making more than Beamer is not a
compliment in any former facet, any stretch of the imagination.
And yeah, it was disrespectful, just like beating them four
straight times, then mentioning in his opening statement that they
have a four game winning streak against Kentucky three different times.
He mentioned it in his his opening statement at the podium.

(21:42):
So yeah, the four years ago Mark Stoops saying that
the culture building took more than dancing in stupid sunglasses
and he has absolutely.

Speaker 6 (21:55):
Owned him ever since then.

Speaker 7 (21:57):
So just really really backfire in a program that just
seems like everything backfires, and you know, the football school,
the the you know, the you know, I thought this
was supposed to be sec like it just feels like
every single time he's you know, pony up, every time
he's opened his mouth, it is just backfired and in
the absolute worst way. And unfortunately, you know, Beamer is

(22:20):
a very odd, dorky face of of of all of that.
So nothing you can say or do to stop it
until you beat him. And unfortunately we're now four years
straight where that's.

Speaker 6 (22:32):
Not the case. So I guess we'll we'll give it
another shot next year. Anthony.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Let's get to the phone lines and uh, because there's
a lot of people call them. So we want you
to get your opinions out. We want you to get
some things up off off of your chest.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Scott, good morning. What do you got for ye?

Speaker 9 (22:49):
Hey, how you guys doing this morning?

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Well?

Speaker 9 (22:52):
Enough, Yeah, I went to the game last night. I'm
not doing too well. First off, fans trained just great
down there, but it's easy to be nice to the
opponent when you kicked the butt.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Are you from Kentucky or you live down that live
down in that area.

Speaker 9 (23:11):
Yeah, I'm out from Oldham County, so we're heading back. Okay, Yeah,
I'm on the road this morning, but just wanted to
say that maybe Mark Stoops needs to get him a
pair of sunglasses. I'm one of the biggest Stoops supporters
there is.

Speaker 6 (23:23):
But something's got to change.

Speaker 9 (23:25):
What we watched last night resembled high school football in
our hat. The throw that Cutter bowl he made. Just
throw it up in the air and hope somebody grabs it.
That's a high school play where one of your top
receivers can get our anything and grab that ball. That's
not gonna happen in the sec and at some point
you have to make the change. Cutter didn't deserve to
get beating up that whole game. Get him out of
the game. If he's gonna be your go to quarterback

(23:46):
the rest of the year, Put somebody in there. Even
if it's bow out, bring bow in. He played this
team before. It was just it was just an absolute
disgusting show to me.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Well, thank you for the call, Scott Again, no argument
on that, Larry. That is kind of you brought it
up earlier and that was some and those are just
young things like let me try to make a play.
Like you said, the first one he threw up could
have been intercepted. That was in double coverage. The one
that the caller was talking about that was threw up
in the triple coverage. We were gonna have to punt

(24:18):
it anyways, if we didn't complete the complete the play,
but called something either. Cutters not on the same page
with Bush or cutters just still young and just young
and anxious and he's just trying things.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
But are you with him?

Speaker 3 (24:35):
You know?

Speaker 2 (24:36):
It kind of reminded me of and you know, you
and I have talked about this about the Devin ask
you experience the point guard man. That is a tough
position to play, especially where you're probably you may not
be adequate or you don't have the pieces around you
that you're in the back court with the ball, trying
to get the ball up the court. And all of
America's watching Kentucky basketball. It's not like you just some

(24:56):
run of the middle school where you know people. No
says one of this is the pitting me the top
of the league in college basketball and he can't hardly
get the ball, but he has to suffer that. Because
I thought after the pick six and they kind of
zoomed in on his face and it was still in

(25:17):
the second quarter, I got the feeling me personally, if
I was a teammate, I would have had a look.
I would have I would have had an opportunity to
look into his eyes. But it looked as if I
got still got two and a half more quarters of this.
So do you do you agree with the caller Scott
that maybe they should have took cut her out or
you keep letting him cut his teeth a little.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
I think it's probably a hard question for me to answer,
because he obviously the more rips he could get and
to learn, I think that should help him. But to also,
do you want to Shattery's confidence? I don't know about that.
I know that I do wonder, and I talked with
you ab at this pace three weeks this contecht he

(26:00):
had receivers that can consistently get open. I'm still not
quite sure about that. How much is that part of
the problem? And to the offensive line that we had
and then getting a lot of praise, it just looked
great to first drive against South Carolina, but the pass

(26:20):
protection once South Carolina came after you and Antony, what
what makes me wonder about the receivers?

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Mean?

Speaker 4 (26:27):
South Carolina a lot of times went to what a
five man defensive front, and a lot of times they
just said eight or nine guys in the box, saying
we don't think you can get anybody open, or if
you or if you can get them open, you don't
have time to throw it anyway, And they just came
right there and Kentucky had no answers. Does that mean
there are no options when that happens that, I mean,
they just stack that box off. You never see SEC

(26:48):
teams do, but don't to me like they just saying,
we know you can't throw it, You're not gonna have
time to throw it or you everybody can get open
to throw it, and we're just gonna take that away.
We're not gonna be able to run. We're gonna stack
the box and we're gonna come after you. And man,
they just brutalized cutter, Like what's got sacked six times?
Got to hit at least four more times, as I'd say,
hurried probably what ten times? That's a lot of pressure

(27:12):
to be under.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Yeah, And I think they knew him coming in being
young on the road and that crowd and their atmosphere. Man,
they do a great job with the music and lighting.
And I called it woof Den Stadium because I don't
know if you know this young Jack Pilgrim, but that
was where the program was filmed at. That's why you
see the lights on top of the stadium. But uh,
I just knew him being young, and you're right, that's

(27:35):
all window dressing eye candy that there's eight people in here.
So this pre snap is are all of these eight
people coming or not? And you have to decipher that
within two to three steps, like you have to know
if these people are coming or not. Secondly, you get
in and out of a play based off of how
many people you see a box on Larry Vat, I'm
gonna assume you would call you would call yourself a novice,

(27:57):
which that was a pretty astute, uh recognition that if
there's eight in the box when I when Tim and
I play eight in the Box, were passing like, we
don't care because if you get out of that box,
you still got to guard the person. But if there
were if there's six, maybe seven in the box, we're running.
So it was so so you are your your assessment

(28:20):
was pretty correct. But that's all they wanted to do,
was confused cutter, because there's a lot of times they
brought the eight and they were whe there were guys
wide open on shallow routes.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
But but Anthony, as you said, with you and Tim,
when you saw that eight in the box, Tim, do
you had four gas could still get open?

Speaker 6 (28:36):
Didn't he?

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Well, it's four guys are jumping at the bisiny they
open because in order to get the ball from Tim
you got to.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
Get out there.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Yeah, don't.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
I don't know if Cutters cut four three gas can
go out there when they do that and get open
or not. I mean, I don't know. That's those are
things over my head. But obviously South Carolina didn't feel
like he had gas could go out there and get open.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
You know who else, Jack Pelgrim.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
You know who else I don't think thought their receivers
could get open was Bush Hampdon. If we need to
get the ball in the receiver's hand, our best option
is a jet sweep or just some sweep emotion to
get get them the ball behind the line of scrimmage.
And like I said, Americas is going to start recognizing that.
But that that had me scratching my head. Jet Yeah,

(29:21):
And I mean.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
I don't know, man, because even the plays that there
there was somebody open, cut he missed them. Cutter hung
onto the ball way too long.

Speaker 6 (29:31):
Man. Just it was like.

Speaker 7 (29:34):
There, you couldn't you couldn't draw up, you know, the
fade down the right sideline to Jimoy Macklin. Like even
the ones that you do get open, Cutter sails it
like it had just one thing after the other where there's
there's no semblance of a consistent you know, passing attack.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
But you know, going back to just the.

Speaker 7 (29:53):
Point about Cutter and you know him not losing confidence,
and you know, whether you pull him or not, yeah,
I think you you in that moment you realize, hey,
this the the wheels of falling off. We're losing this
football game. Like you are only damaging his confidence and
his body further by letting him get destroyed play after

(30:13):
I mean ten tackles for lost six sacks. I mean
he got absolutely cooked out there and he was seeing ghost.
It's just you you cannot put him in a position
where you kill the kid's confidence and you know, his
his long term momentum.

Speaker 6 (30:28):
You know, you're you're going into the belly of.

Speaker 7 (30:30):
The beast again next week down in Athens taking on uh,
you know, a top five Georgia team that's coming off
a loss to to you know, Alabama at home. They're
going to be hungry to do the exact same thing.
You just you can't put him in bad positions. And
it just felt like, yes, Cutter was bad last night,
he was he was bad. I couldn't read the defense
he was put, you know, processing things too slows.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
It was.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
It was horrible. It was a very very very bad
sec starting debut.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
But don't make matters worse for him by getting him
actually hurt and you know, actually wrecking his confidence to
the point of no return. And that's kind of what
we saw down the stretch there. So it just it
was a whole lot of stuck all around. And yeah,
I don't think the receivers helped him at all, but
Cutter certainly didn't help himself either.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Let's get back to the phone lines and see what
John Short has to say.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Happy birthday, John Short, what do you got for it?
Went press your birthday? It was earlier this week.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
It was yes September twenty five.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Okay, happy birthday, because we didn't have a show on
September twenty five.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I know, I know y'all didn't, but it was a
un birthday. And then well, and then we lost the
second will we Georgia five big and said we beat
him in volleyball, and we beat him utball, we can
beat him in football.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Whoa, whoa whoa? Now, Larry Vat, Now I know you
said this is a football state. But you agree with that?

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Well, yeah, John's right. The sweat woman volleyball to school
do in football, right, John, that's right.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
But our football team may not be as good as
our volleyball team.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
I think eliminate last time.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Last time to beat Georgia is Morgan being a quarterback
fression quarterback two thousand and nine.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
It was that long though, Yeah, I guess so, yeah,
we don't do it too frequently, and therefore that we.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Wont two thousand and six, and for that in nineteen
ninety six, eighty eight, and nineteen seventy seven when Prince
Charles was there in Athens.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Van House beat him in ninety six. Yep, you're right.
What else you got for John?

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Okay? Also, we're gonna we're go win the soccer day
or Coasta Carolina. I know it subbvising that game.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
ESPN plus that's one of those extra channels you got
to pay a little bit more for.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Okay. And what time is that game?

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Seven pm?

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Seven pm? Okay? Okay, here, and we're going to be
Mississippi and volleyball I know we haven't talked about that.
We're gonna be all The game is a seven o'clocker
on the network.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yes, yes, it is seven o'clock on SEC network. Whenever
you say Kentucky volleyball, you pretty much should just say
we're gonna beat them. I don't know if you're breaking
news when you say we're gonna beat them, but you
just give them the schedule, and I always appreciate that
from me.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
John, it's gonna be on the radio team.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
I do not think so Bow made no otherwise, But
I do not think that one will be on the radio.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
I don't believe.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Well, John Short, thank you for the call. Enjoy you
the rest of your birthday week. Well you got one
more day left for your birthday week.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Enjoy it. Uh oh, thank you, Thank you caller. Can
you hold on.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
I don't want to put you up against the break
because we do have to hit one.

Speaker 5 (33:41):
We will get you in. We come back. We'll listen.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news Radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop for it to Radio Network on six
thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday. I want the sports talk
on Anthony White with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim again
if you'd like, did you want to show a five
nine to eight zero two two eight seven eighty five
nine to eight zero cats Larry before we get to
the phone lines, I did want to get your opinion
that the same question as Jack more or less about

(34:18):
Beemer's disrespect. Do you think that's a disrespect toward Mark
Stoops the program? Or is he just that type of guy?
Like some of those antics he pull was to show
maybe nationally or either show our fan base, show his
fan base, or show Mark that look man. I've used
this as for practice time.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
I think he is who he is. I think it's
just part of what makes him. But in part of
it Anthony doesn't in some little ways. Just his feisty
attitude though, doesn't that kind of remind you a little
bit of a younger Mark Steups. Mark never would maybe
done some of the things she did, but he was
real feist to get up in your face and love
being disrespected, love being that under dog, having that chip

(35:01):
on his shoulder, and that fight kind of carried over
to his team, and that does seem to kind of
be missing from Kentucky the past several years, so I
mean Beeamber, Yeah, he talks a lot, struts a lot,
and does all that. Please got Kentucky's number right now.
I think he's got into Mark stoops head with those
things that he does. And I mean, just like after

(35:23):
the game and he was talking about some things and
you just know he's just sticking that knife in there,
just twisted it on Stoops. But part of me doesn't
like it, just like when he did the fake punt
up twenty eight to ten. Why in the world is
he doing that? But again, that's just kind of showing well,
if we don't make it, you can't score anyway. So
I'm not worried about it. I mean, that's just kind

(35:44):
of a feistiness. I kind of wish Mark would get
some of them back in him.

Speaker 5 (35:49):
Absolutely, we can hold. We'll put a pin in that.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
But let me get to the phone lines before we
have to hit a break and see what Jake has
to say.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Good morning, Jake, we got for us.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
Good morning, Anthony. How are you doing this morning.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
I'm sure I'm pulling myself together.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
I never thought.

Speaker 10 (36:06):
I'd say I'm more confident about I have more confidence
in the Reds today. Than I did, and I do
about Kentucky the rest of the season. That's that's a
bit shocking to me. But but that's where I'm at
right now.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
That's a popular opinion right now, that's everybody's question. How
what are we gonna do the rest of this season?
Like we got a long way to go, Jake, there.

Speaker 10 (36:28):
Games and and and we be we lost to a
team that that I feel that we should have that
we should have beat yesterday because they're on and three
coming in and and we're probably sure to beat We're
probably sure to beat Old Miss And I don't know,

(36:49):
I don't know what to say.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
Now.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
We may not be I will tell you this, Jake,
we may not be favored again at TALL.

Speaker 8 (36:56):
This year, well until Florida maybe.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
No, not the SEC. By then Florida probably will have
had a coaching change, so that may be up in
the air. But in the SEC, we may not be favorite.
We may not be favored again to Tennessee Tech.

Speaker 10 (37:16):
And that's that that that's.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
That's not good, not good at all.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
But uh, I'm gonna keep some faith. Maybe maybe he's
gonna make some changes. I don't think he can salvage
the fan base thanks for the college, Jake. We appreciate it.
But uh, Larry Vaught and Jack, I know we have
to get the break. So I pounded this over the break.
I know, uh, and and we were talking about this
off air that there's still a whole season ahead of us,
and I was asked, how do you recover?

Speaker 5 (37:44):
How do you keep showing up?

Speaker 2 (37:45):
And I've also and I've always said this, you watch boxing,
you watch mm A, you watch those sports where you
have to be resilient, keep coming back. If you you've
watched boxes, you watched Muhammad Ali. They take rope, it
open you, whatever it is. You got to do the
muster up the energy to finish the fight or finish
the race. That's what I'm expecting. But if you can't
do that, you just have to get out of the game.
If you're gonna get hit one hundred and twenty times

(38:08):
and then you feel like, man, that's enough, I'm gonna
give up because the twenty, the one hundred. If you
dodge one hundred and twenty first hit and you land
a knockout blow, you got an opportunity. I'm not trying
to give anybody false hope, but everybody's asking what Are
we gonna do these next eight or I guess seven
of the next eight games. To stay confident, we'll continue
the conversation after the break. You're listening to Stockyards Bank
