Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday winning sports Talk. I am
Anthony White, along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry. Stockyards Bank
is your trusted partner since nineteen o four, So head
on over to syb dot com for all your banking
and financial needs. And you can also join the big
Ass Fans Hotline if you want to talk about where
(00:26):
you are on the bandwagon. Apparently Larry Vaught and I
are cheach and the chum of the bandwagon. You can
join the Biggest Fans Hotline by dialing eight five nine
to eight zero two two eight seven eight five nine
to eight zero Cats, Jack Pilgrim, we before we get out. Well,
(00:48):
I know you only have one more segment with us.
Alvin did ask about what games do we have to win?
I don't know how many of the games you take
you've taken in this weekend. I will admit Louisville did
look good. They look good. I'm concerned about that game. Uh,
Texas is Texaan Texas, Texas, Tennessee look pretty good. I'm
(01:14):
not sure if Oklahoma is just not acclimated to the
speed of the SEC. Where do we find four games
at on the schedule? And if you don't have anything
pulled up. I'll let you know. We got left. We
got Old Miss left at Old Miss, Vanderbilt here, Florida
at Florida, Auburn here, Tennessee at Tennessee, Murray State here,
(01:38):
Texas at Texas, and Louisville here.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I mean, it's it's a gauntlet. But I think you
gotta find three in the next four. I think if
you obviously, if you can steal one in Oxford, that
would be best case scenario and you can kind of
make up for that that South Carolina loss, and you know,
kind of move past that and you get back on
the same schedule of what you were kind of anticipating
(02:06):
going into the sec SEC schedule this year. So if
you can steal that one, obviously, that's great. But if not,
is it crazy to say they need to win the
next three Vandy at Florida and against Auburn before seeing
just what the heck happens against Tennessee. Then Murray State
obviously is a must, and then you take your beating
(02:28):
at Texas and then see what happens against Louisville. I mean,
I think that's kind of the the most likely scenario
there to get to six and you know, potentially seven
and then maybe salvage the season.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Larry, hold on to your hat. We're gonna come to you.
I'm gonna come to you later a second. But we
do have a caller on the line. I don't know
if they have a question for Jack as well, because
before Jack Leeds, I do want to get a basketball
update because it's.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Right around the corner.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
But we do have the big ass fans hot line
lit up, and we're going to get to it and
see what Anthony has to say. Probably I'm I'm gonna
anticipate this is gonna be one of my favorite calls
ever because his name is Anthony.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Good morning Anthony. What he got for us?
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Absolutely? Man, calling you from my farm here in Harrison County.
I'm sitting around here feeding and watering my chickens, and
I was thinking, man, you know what, I love to
be entertained, you know, if it's not my farm animals.
Yesterday it took me everything I had to turn on
that TV to watch the Cats, and I love the Cats.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
I love wins. A win is a win is a win.
But after what had happened with the call at Georgia
and then what happened right before half. I changed the channel.
I didn't go back. I kind of looked at it
every once in a while. I was actually watching other games,
and I thought to myself, Man, I just I'm just
(03:50):
not entertained. And just like what you were talking about
is they're gonna have some trouble here. I mean, vander
Belts is not gonna be easy me after what I
saw yesterday. But you know, as far as entertainment, I'll
tell you what. We were supposed to go out last night,
we didn't. I stayed in and I watched the Mighty
(04:11):
Colorade of Buffaloes.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
You talk about it entertaining. Man, I didn't go to
bed till midnight watching that game.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Travis Hunter, if that's not the Heisman Trophy winner, he
made the most consequential play. It was the hundred and
fiftieth play that he had played on that in that game. Wow,
And it was his Hunter because he was.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Playing offense and defense.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
That was his hundred and fiftieth play when he caused
that fumble. I was, man, I couldn't go to sleep.
I was so jacked up. And that's what I want.
I want to be jacked up here in Kentucky, you know,
and I'm not jacked up.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
You know.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
You know what Jack's me up is when I go
over there and I look in my aid thing and
there's all kinds of aids. Hey you, Anthony, you have
a great date, Jack, have a great day. God as
good to us.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Everybody asked me back home, Hey where do you live?
Speaker 5 (04:56):
I said, I live right next door to God here
in Harrison County. Take care of love you.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Guys appreciate that. I like that, Anthony.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
That is great. Larry, what do you think about Anthon?
He live in guy's country.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I like that.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Nothing wrong and all with that perfect, perfect message for
Sunday morning, don't you think?
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Absolutely? Man, we're getting back. We're getting back in our stride.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Man.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
We've been in the dumps the past couple of months,
man that you know, losing coaches, bringing new coaches in. Uh,
you know, starting off the season the way it started off.
But like I said, I got you on the back burner.
We're going to bring up We're gonna talk a little
bit more about what Anthony was talking about. But Jack Pilgrim,
before we get you out here, we got about two
minutes before we get you out of here. I know
you've been writing a lot about basketball. How far are
(05:37):
we away from basketball? Actually basketball?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
I mean we are less than three weeks away and
now from from big blue maddeness, which it seems absolutely bonkers.
I mean, I don't know how we got here so quickly,
but it feels good. We're here. Blue White Game, the
Club Blue Blue Blue White pre season event will be
taking place in Memorial Coliseum a week after that. I'm
(06:04):
very excited for that, and the fact that it is
a very nil related event to put some some money
in these kids pockets and help with recruiting efforts moving forward.
And then just a couple of days later after that,
we get our first exhibition game. So and you know,
factor in media day, pro Day, some of those other
things kind of intertwined with that that I believe both
of those things happen in the days leading up to
(06:26):
the Blue, Big Blue madness. So we are we're here, man,
we got we got basketball season in two and a half.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Weeks before we get you out of here really quickly.
I've read an article. All the individual banners have been
taken down out of the basketball facilities. It's just championship
banners because that's all we are about. Thumbs up the
thumbs down.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
WI you for.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Fact.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
So technically yes, but I think a big, bigger part
of it was, Okay, we're it takes way too much
effort and work too with how many trades and free
agency and you know players moving across the board up
and down, left and right, that it's a lot more
work to replace them all. Why not just kind of
(07:15):
come together with a unifying message of hey, let's not
put all of our effort into the NBA side of
things that focus on the banner, you know, the hanging
banners in Lexington for winning a national championship. So kind
of part of it was an effort thing and you know,
not wanting to deal with the hassle of replacing one
hundred different boards every single every single day. But I
(07:37):
like the overall message and I think it's it's very
important for everybody to be on the same page there
in Lexington, and I think they have the right guy
leading them to kind of go forward with that message.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
That makes sense. That is Jack Pilgrim. Follow him on
social media. Jack Pilgrim KSR. We will be back after this.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
News Radio six thirty w Welcome back Stockyards Banks Sunday
Morning Sports dot Com Anthony White along with Larry.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Vault, just the two of us.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Jack Pilgrim has ran his courses, done his thing, kept
us informed as he always do. Follow Jack Pilgrim, good read,
always something. Next to Larry Vaught, Jack Pilgrims probably Jack
Pilgrim probably is producing more content than Larry Vault on
the regular and that's hard to believe. But Jack Pilgrim
is a little bit younger, a lot a bit younger
(08:35):
than Larry Vaught and myself. But Jack Pilgrim at KS
Jack Pilgrim KSR where you can find his his material
and Larry Vaught everybody knows you can find him Vault's
views on all social media platforms. Larry Vaught, the phone
lines are lit up, big ass fans.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Phone lines are lit up. We're gonna get back to those.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
But if you would like to join it, eight five
nine to eight zero two to eight seven, and if
you are cat saying that is eight five nine to
eight zero cats. So let's get back to the phone
lines and see what Terry has to say. Good morning, Terry,
how was it going?
Speaker 7 (09:15):
Hey, good morning guys. UH take care of business when yesterday,
UH don't have too many complaints overall going forward, I
like this Gavin Lindsey. I'm not saying I'm trying to
create a quarterback controversy, but I like.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
I like this kid.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
I mean, uh, I think he's got a little bit
better es capability than Brock does. And I like the
way to the ball, and I think he's a real
good runner. Also, this Chip trained him. I don't want
to mispronounce his name, but he's gonna get passed by
the longer he sits. I mean, I like number zero.
(09:57):
I can't say his name, so I'm not going to
butcher it.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
And I like Will kern Bay.
Speaker 7 (10:01):
Yeah, I like both those guys. I mean, so Chip
Berry get back or he may be sitting over there.
My last thing I'll hang out and listen to all
was a response against those miss. Our defense has to
have a little bit different strategy because yesterday we had
no tackles for loss and no sacks or very minimum.
(10:23):
That won't do against o miss. We can't just sit
back and let them play pitch and catch with these
receivers and I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Thanks guys, Thank you for the call, Terry Larry Vard.
We got a lot to throw around. Man, We've had
several calls. We haven't gotten everything, but I knew it's
gonna be you and I for a little while. So uh,
as long as Austin don't put us on another hot
mite where I say something that gets us in trouble
and get us taken off these airwaves, because as is
the only thing you can say that the FCC will
(10:52):
let you say. And you've been in the studio on
the breaks, and I say more than that.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
I was going to until you warned me. So dang it. Hey, man,
you don't want this to be a last supper, do you? No? No, okay, right,
I'm sorry, Anthony. I'll listen to you. I guess no.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
I mean you guys take care of us on that
side of the board. So I know it's a tough
I don't know it's a tough job, but it has
to be a tough job.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
I'm happy to be here. I'm talking to two legends
like yourself.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
I'm glad of you being here. You're talking to one legend, though,
so correct that you're talking to one legend, not two legends, Uh,
Larry Vaught and I don't really want to say it
out loud, but everybody knows that our offense has to
get going. And we got our offense going against an
Ohio University and that coming into this game, everybody thought
(11:37):
Ohio University wasn't gonna be a pushover. And if you
look on social media, everybody on the feed or talking
about who is it, Uh Collins, Lucas, Lucas Collins, I'm
talking about. Vandy ain't even looking bad. Louisville is not
looking bad. So we're trying to We're trying to scrap
(11:58):
around and find wins. Now, Larry, I'm a little be
concerned from the where and I'm not really concerned about
Brad White and his crew, but uh, if they have
to pitch shutouts, it's gonna be tough. And I told
you coming to the season, I thought their mindset is
they're gonna have to Is it realistic. I'm gonna be
honest with you, Larry, I don't find that really realistic,
(12:18):
but I know that's what it's gonna take. How confident
are you now in that and that now that we've
got a little bit smaller sample size of Gavin wimseet
that I don't know if I don't know if all
the mishype about Gavin Wimsat not be able to do
X Y and Z, he hasn't shown me he can't
(12:40):
do X, Y and Z, And maybe you have to
put him in a game where I can see him fail.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
But I've watched Rock make.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Some some slow reads and progressions are a little slower
than I would like. And we're going to SEC, so
you're not getting any more opportunities to tune up. We're not,
there's no more time for tuning up, Larry Vaught. We
are playing SEC football, which Oklahoma found out yesterday. These
defenses are fast, they're exotic, they hit, they get around.
(13:07):
How many people got carted off the field. And I'm
not saying that in lightheartedly at all. I'm just saying
it's a violent, physical game in this conference. And Oklahoma's
used to scoring a lot of points in their conference.
You know, people just score points in those conferences, and
now we're out here hitting, And like I said that,
prayers go out to the player from Oklahoma that was
(13:27):
carted off, who was a senior who probably won't forget
to finish the senior season, and that was a moment
that I thought was huge. The whole team came out
rallied around the cart and that almost brought me to tears.
And that wasn't even the team I root for, but
just you know, the comrade of the guys in the
middle of the game, and it was huge.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
But I go back to.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Larry vaut, where do you staying on the rest of
the schedule, And it's whimsat maybe getting packages, bigger packages
put in place, more of opportunity.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Are we are? Are you you find with the direction
we're going with brock vanding.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Gar Yeah, I don't know, Anthony. The whole quarterback thing
is still kind of perplexing to me. I mean, I've
honestly thought about this point of the season, we'd have
got to see Cutter Bowley a little bit too, just
because if you want to recruit and develop young quarterbacks,
I think you've got to give them a chance to
(14:29):
play just a little bit in this transfer era and all.
But again, when you're struggling to try to figure out
what you're going to do, I know that's hard to
do also, but I think you've always been the one
that preaches me, you've got to find your identity and
then stick to it correct absolutely, And I think right
now they just aren't certain what their identity is going
(14:53):
to be or supposed to be, and going into the
sec gauntlet now and not knowing that for sure. To me,
just because of what I've listened to you over the years,
that's kind of a scary proposition to me, that they
are exactly settled on what they're gonna or what they
think they're gonna do or not do there. And I
(15:16):
mean the defense certainly knows their identity just goes smack
it and knock you down. I mean that's but on
the offense, I mean they're still really struggling. As I
told you last night. Are we seeing Dame Key just
to merge as the guy that's gonna be there no
matter what and you know we can get it? And
what does that say about berryon Brown? I was one
(15:37):
of our teams taking him away? Or is she taking
himself away? So to me, there's still a lot of
a lot of questions, and the quarterback just kind of
adds to the to the drama there. I'm just seeing
that you don't know what you're going to do what
they're looking for on offense. They can't figure it out
and can't find it.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
No, And I absolutely agree. And one thing that we've
talked about quite a few times over the week, I've
been I follow you during the games, I follow you
during the weeks on social media, you and Jack Pilgrim,
And I know we're gonna get to all these topics.
But one thing you were writing about the other day
was Jamariwn Wilcox. So you're saying, you know what's going on,
barrying Danis kind of showed up, and that was Ohio
(16:18):
University brought you know, came out of Michelle a little
bit and did some things I think he we manufactured
underneath brought what two touchdowns, well, two Russian touchdowns or three? Yeah,
three Russian touchdowns underneath him and Max Harrison did his thing.
But now you got the whole problem of everybody's liking
(16:42):
Jamarron Wilcox. Everybody likes what demy Carmo Sumbe is doing.
Everybody got a small civil size what Jason Patterson can do.
So now so now when Chip comes in, who started
off as number one guy, like, there is so many
questions on offensive side of the ball, that Typically, if
you have a lot of options, that makes for good,
(17:05):
good results. But with us, I feel like we have
so many options that and you stated it eloquently that
I've told you for years. You have to have a
go to scenario, like you have to have a go
to play, you have to have a go to lineup.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
There's just identity. You have to have basketball football both.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
You have to have an identity, like you know what
Lebron's going to do in a certain situations. You know
Michael Jordan's gonna find an elbow and if he can't,
if he can't spin off you, he's gonna fade away
or on the block. Him and Kobe. You just have
to have an identity. And we have to get to
that point. We haven't gotten to that point. We got
a whole lot of pieces that are not solidified. Going
to the sec Larry Vaudy could be a good thing.
(17:46):
It could be I mean, it could be a good
thing because if we get into the play and I
think if we run packages with Whimsat as well as
Vander Griff, you find out, Okay, this game is a
game where we run RPOs with Whimsat, where we run
play actions with whims hat and it could work out,
then it be other games were brought. I mean it's
I was in the backfield with Derek Homer. Some games
(18:09):
it was Derek Homer's game, some games it was mine.
I got more touches in some games he got more touches.
So so the things you say your concerns because you
just you stated that those are things that I feel
like you have not have an identity. Are you concerned
that there's not an identity or is there a level
(18:29):
of optimism that not having an identity at this point
is still pretty pretty good because the identity when it
comes across can be good. Lin Bolden putting Lin Bolden
a quarterback. That was not an ideal situation before it happened,
but after it happened, it seemed to work out pretty well.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Yeah, but that was kind of more the exception. Whether
don't you think it's something you're gonna do very often?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Oh? Yeah, yeah, I do agree with that.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
And also, I mean I don't know, uh, exactly what
what you do right there. And also but I just
know from listening to you all these years, it just
worries me that there's not anything that they have done
yet that's impressed me to point this, Okay, this is
(19:22):
what this is what they're gonna do, and this is
what they've got to be able to do. So that
still worn worns war worries me a decent amount five
games into the least.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Yeah, I'm I'm a little bit optimism. I'm I'm, I'm my.
My optimism is starting to run low, starting to run
a little bit low on optimism. But I still got
a lot just because I know our defense is him,
Larry Vaud. The young people call when somebody says that's him,
that's equivalent of Superman, Jesus Christ, whoever you look up to,
(19:58):
Larry Vaught, whoever you look up, When did somebody say
that defense is him?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Our defense is Timothy. We will be back after this.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLAP. Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday
(20:35):
Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White along with the great
Larry Vaught, Larry Vaud of Vaults Views, Dan Vale's Finest
Larry Vaught. I got to get you a better introduction. Actually,
I need to get Jack Pilgrim a better introduction as well.
Could you guys mean, you delivered the news on the regular,
(20:55):
and you make it easy like Sunday Morning. Got to
give me a profile sheet so I can run off
all your accolades.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
I like that. I like that. But you do this fine.
I'm happy with what you do.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
All right.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
I'll just I'll just stick with the great. What I'm
trying to get back to some of these questions, there
was something. Oh so the Jared Lorenzen question came up
with Alvin. Alvin always has something kind of morbid and
(21:30):
his questions a lot of times. But Jared is a
Jared was left when I came. I know you talked
to Tony Franklin about the decision to select Jared over
Dusty Bonner in that spring game. But Jared and he
was just he just so the I don't know if
I played with them one or two years, but he
(21:51):
was just man, just funny.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
I remember watching him in the spring game running toward
the sideline, you know, a quarterback scrambling. He's just running
toward the sideline and he's not turning it up because
he's still trying to find somebody to throw the ball
to down the field.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
And I'm like, man, y'all need to move out of
the way, cause you.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Know Ms Graff, that you who does all the photography
and those things. You know, she's been trampled a couple
of times. But I don't know if you recover from
a Jared scramble where he pummels the sideline. But man,
he's just just such a lighthearted and he was just
for him being a big guy. He got he got
I guess credibility or known for being a big guy,
(22:30):
but he was still still a great athlete, still one
of the one of the best athletes on the field,
even at three hundred plus three hundred and fifty plus
pounds or whatever. But when they brought that up on
the on the broadcast the other day, and I know
Alvin brought it up, you know, kind of what he
meant to the program, I think is more than what
he did on the field. Man, the guy was just
(22:51):
just just a pleasure to be around. Every time I
think about just things that he just natural things he
does just makes me laugh. And I don't know if
you had any any thoughts, because Alvin did bring up,
because they brought up on the broadcast that he was
one of the favorite people to cover when one of
the when asked from one of the guys from the SEC.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
Network, Yeah, Jared was. I mean, he just was unique.
I remember one time trying to he told me that
he won't know if I could catch as want to
catch your pass? When I ask you, how already threw
the ball? I want to try to catch a pass
And I said, I don't think so. I said, you're right.
He said, just stand down there and I was whizz
(23:31):
it by your wizard value. Don't move and I was
Wizzard value, so don't reach to touch it and don't move,
and he kind of threw it over my right shoulder.
Oh my god, how does that not break your hand
when you try to catch it. I don't quite quite
get it. And also but yeah, it's un amazing, amazing person,
(23:52):
amazing athlete.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Absolutely man I saw. I appreciate the SEC Network taking
the opportunity to pay homage to to mister Lorenzen, j Low,
the healty lefty whatever pills but Pillsberry throwboy.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
I work for you.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Acknowledge them, but just make sure you acknowledge Jared Lorenza. Uh,
we were in the running back room. I know we've
talked about it. I know you've wrote about it a
little bit. I know you like, uh, Will Cox Patterson
is the guy you you're high on. I'm not sure
how DA haven't said much about his recovery time. But
(24:27):
here's the thing that's baffling Larry Vaught. Is there a
recovery time for tip chain them, chip chain them when
we get the week, when we get to week five
or six, we can't implement you into an offense that
is already well. If we have a lack of identity,
I still don't think we implement you. But if we
do have an identity, we definitely don't implement you.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
Yeah, I think you're right about that. And again, I
mean there's no guarantee yet he's gonna play this week
from what we've been told, so I don't know. It's
been very puzzling what's going on with the running backs there.
And also, and again, if he is able to go,
(25:10):
do you just throw him in there? First thing? Now?
Because he is able to go, I mean, he was
supposed to be running back one going into the season
and he gets hurt. Now, these other guys are doing
really well, So do you abandon what you've been doing
with them to give him a chance and what could
be your key game of the season. I don't know.
But then again, we really don't know if he's gonna
be back or not, because nobody really tells you anything.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I seen number twenty eight to Vonnie Mizelle centering on
the sideline. I figured he might get a couple carries.
I will say this because this keeps coming up, and
Larry Vaught has asked it as well. Everybody keeps saying
Cutter Bowley gets some reps because you get four you
could play in four games and steal redshirt. When I
was in school, that was not a thing. I will
say this before we go to break and then we
(25:54):
come back. We have golden leg Alex Rayner the golden leg.
He's gonna be on with us. But I will say this,
the whole idea of Cutter Bowley getting opportunity. I love Cutter,
I love what he presents, I love what he can do.
The problem is we haven't even gotten gathering a whole
