Dans cet épisode de TED en français, Michel Levy Provençal revient sur le talk d'Alain Damasio, auteur de science-fiction français majeur.
Plutôt que de se concentrer sur les soucoupes volantes, Alain Damasio s'intéresse à la façon dont l'homme se réinvente sans cesse avec la technologie et au type d'humain que nous sommes en train de fabriquer.
Il introduit une distinction fondamentale entre "pouvoir" (la capacité de déléguer l'action) et "puissance" (la capacité de faire par soi-même, de déployer l'action directement). Il questionne : en externalisant nos capacités physiques et cognitives dans nos smartphones, GPS et autres outils, ne sommes-nous pas en train de perdre notre puissance d'agir, notre rapport intime au monde, notre capacité à persévérer dans notre être ?
Il identifie trois moteurs affectifs de notre pulsion technophile : la technologie outille nos paresses, conjure nos peurs (notamment celle de la solitude), et nous donne l'espoir de dépasser notre finitude. Alain critique vivement le transhumanisme et son fantasme de dépasser la mort, proposant à la place un "très humanisme", un nouvel art de vivre technologique qui nous permettrait de devenir plus humains plutôt que transhumains.
Ce talk enregistré en 2014 résonne avec une acuité particulière aujourd'hui, à l'ère de l'intelligence artificielle et des algorithmes qui fluidifient nos vies mais risquent aussi de nous dévitaliser.

The Brothers Ortiz
The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers–both successful, but in very different ways.
