Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, guess well, we got Senator Doll on the phone.
Senator Doll is back on the road. He's are you
and Houston Senator Doll here today? I have Governor Bush
and President Bush in the car. Was there? Well, terrific?
We sorry we missed you on Friday, but you're going
all out. And I'm telling you, Senator, there's optimism out there.
I'm sure you see it and know it, but it
doesn't hurt for you to be told from independent sources.
(00:22):
We really, you know, it feels good. We're not obviously
people lieve Poles were still a little bit behind. But
there's a lot of enthusiasm. We feel good about it.
We think you know, we've been on the road seventy
five straight hours. We've got twenty one to go. The
crowds are big enthusiastic. They want this guy out of there.
That's absolutely that's absolutely right. Hey, how are you holding up?
(00:44):
Old On? Very well? We get my little horse but
otherwise in good shape. Age little cat napps on the airplane,
and uh, we've got about four or five five stops
to go, and then it'll be newon Toman. I'll vote
in Russell, Kansas, and then we'll head back to washing
d C. To watch the victory return. Senator Doll I
gotta I've got to run this by you because I
know if you haven't heard it, it's just going to
amuse you. But in the political hotline today, there's a
(01:07):
story running around that that that after the election, should
the president somehow managed to eke this out, that he's
going to ask you to head up the Medicare Reform
Bipartisan Blue Ribbon Committee, And and you know there's a
there's all this. The president is going to hire a
bunch of Republicans to replace retiring cabinet officers, and your
(01:29):
your name's out there is heading up the Medicare Bipartisan
Would you care to decline or accept that offer? Now,
I I have a decline that offer if I have
a song feeling as far as senior citizens. But after
he's distorted the truth and the fact about many care,
I wouldn't feel comfortable serving that position. We're gonna win,
so maybe he'll care the committee. Good, Well, what what's
(01:53):
what's your day like the rest of the day? Where
how many more hours are left in your marathon? And
where are you going that we end up? But he
am tomorrow morning in Independence, Missouri, place you're familiar with,
and that we'll be standing the statute of Harry Truman
and given their good last shot to he's a Harry
Truman of nine will vote off as he did in Well.
(02:15):
Let me say one thing here to you before you go,
um that I put President Bush on a minute certainly
so I love talks with him. How you're doing, I'm
just fine, President Bush? How are you well? More important?
How is the Senator Dole? And I can tell you
I've never sending like it. I got tired on that
campaign trail Ben on their thirty six hours or less.
He comes into Houston this morning and the governor and
(02:37):
I and Barbara app to meet him. And I'll tell
you it's unbelievable the energy of this man. Yeah, it's
at the crowds too. I understand that everywhere he goes,
places are packed and everybody is full of energy. And
I was I was just gonna tell him how excited
people are. For the past two weeks on this program,
the calls have all been everybody asked me every day,
so your callers down and said, no, they're all optimistic.
(02:57):
They all think this is real this is gonna happen. Well,
I sure hope so and governors here, and he feels
very confident about Texas. Uh, not over confident, but but
confident in that Senator Dole will do better than some
of the some of the polling numbers that we've been
subjected to. Here. He really feels good about it. Well,
he's nipping tuck there anyway. What what are the poll
(03:19):
numbers in Texas? Right now? Let me let me put
the governor on here here here we are. This is
George W. Bush. George W. Bush, Governor of Texas. Nice
to have you. That's good to hear from you. Same here. Uh,
I'm the honor to be named the Dole for President
chairman in Texas. And I've got to tell you that
we're in good shape here because it is a good guy.
(03:39):
And people in Texas understand that they know the difference
between someone who's going to do an office that which
he says on the campaign tray on someone who'll say
whatever it takes to get elected. And that's Bob Dole.
And we're gonna do well here. Russian. I hope you're
listeners that are listening to your program, Get out and
vote we are insisting on that. That's good, how you
mat and we're in urging the Democrats to vote too.
(04:01):
Were we we think we want to beat them at
their best. Were having all the Democrats show up on
November six, make sure they go. And that's good, that's right.
But we're in good shape here in Texas. It's been
a we're gonna do well. I feel confident. I think
we're gonna pick up seats in the US House. I
believe we're gonna have the state Senate for the first
time Republican. It's good to have a man like Bob
(04:22):
Dole at the top of the ticket because he is
well like in our state. Well, you know, I'll tell
you what it's uh. I'm I'm glad to hear that
you and your dad are with him, because it's he's
he's uh. He suffered some blows. A lot of people
have had some things to say about him on his
own team in the past two weeks, which have frankly,
been very frustrating and not helpful. And it's great to
(04:43):
see you two out there standing beside him and letting
everybody know that you believe in him, because so many
people do. You bet this is a good man. Yeah, uh,
we're there's asolutely no question in my mind. The race
is far from over too. And uh, I know these
national polls have got it all kind of one way,
but that's not what I hear. I hear it from
people I talked to, is are gonna turn out in
(05:04):
droves for this good fellow. And I understand there's some
guy named Zogby who's got the race at three points
three point eight past two days. I haven't seen today,
but Saturday and Sunday was at three point eight where
he done good it is and and you know, Zogby
pulls more people, and he pulls fewer Democrats than the
national Samdy, which is how he gets there. Well, let's
hope Zogby, whoever he might be, is correct, dog will
(05:28):
be a national hero. I think he will be. But
more than that, the other guys are gonna have been discredited.
I mean, how can you sit there and say double
digit and points like this, It's not going to be that.
I've never seen anything like it rush. I mean, every
single night on TV they've got a seventeen point bulls
or something, and yet when you're out here with the
people like you know, I am. For example, I just
(05:49):
don't see it. I don't, I don't, but we'll see. Well,
I don't hear it, good man. I'll tell you one thing.
He came blowing in here to Houston, and uh, he
is a guy who's been on the road now from
up any hours or eighty hours or whatever it is.
He looks great. It's hard to believe. Well, I know
it's amazing. I've seen the candidate on TV and it
doesn't look like he is at all. In fact, looks
(06:11):
like he's enjoying this and isn't energize me. He is
enjoying it. It's great anyway, it's gonna be exciting. Weren't
good shape here? You tell your listeners, your Texas listeners,
that one I love being their governor to get out
to vote. Hey, congratulations on the Rangers too. That had
to be exciting, not what a new ballpark will do
for you. Yeah, you were there as you recalling the
last time George Brett ever played a game. It was exciting.
(06:34):
You were more popular than Nolan Ryan and George Brett. Well,
that's going a bit far go. You can't hit tho
it different. I can't, but I can throw a nasty curveball.
Yes you can't, well, Senator, don't got a couple of minutes.
I just want to say one couple of things to him,
if he's got time, if you got here, a hold on.
And by the way, we're passing throngs waving, so if
he if he has to get office because he needs
(06:55):
to go, that's all right. Here's all right. Much had
him wave and talk to me, all right? Thanks a lot, Senator,
It's it's my pleasure. And I just want to tell
you something. A lot of people believe in you, a
lot of people praying for you, a lot of people
hoping for you. You've had a lot of people on
your team that have not been on your side, but
they are few. You do not know how many people
are behind you and pulling for you and are going
to go to the wall for you here and who
(07:15):
respect and love you for what you're trying to do
for America, uh here in this campaign. And I wanted
to express that to you for all of them, because
none of them would have the chance to get to
you except this way. So I wanted to make sure
that you knew that there ringed maybe a big one.
I got them crossed Gota cross. Thank you Senator Bob Gold,
(07:35):
former President George Bush, and the Governor of Texas George W.
Bush on the campaign trail in Texas, feeling up and optimistic,
and they join me in encouraging and reminding Democrats to
vote as well. Don't forget November six, the election day
for Democrats.
