In this fiery and hilarious episode of The Ben and Skin Show, Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive headfirst into ESPN’s controversial ranking of all 32 NFL coaching staffs—and the Dallas Cowboys land at a jaw-dropping #29. Is this a fair assessment, or just another case of national media bias? From Clayton Adams’ mysterious rise to offensive coordinator, to Brian Schottenheimer’s competitive bomb-throwing antics at practice, the crew breaks down what this ranking really means for Cowboys fans. KT delivers a sharp analysis of the Saints’ quarterback situation, while Skin wonders aloud if the NFC is truly up for grabs this season. Speaker 1 (00:01):
Cowboy surprise.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I saw this over on ESPN.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
They did a ranking of the thirty two NFL teams
coaching staffs. So they did put a little disclaimer out there,
and they're like, look, we can't do position coaches. We
can't fill it in there right. In fact, we're gonna
take special teams coach out of there too, because that
could be a who knows just head coaches. Take what
we know about the head coach and the coordinators. Some

(00:42):
of these may be unknown if they tried to give
themselves a little bit of leeway to be fair. And
the good news is one of your teams in the
division comes in at number thirty two, the New York Giants.
So that's very good. Cowboy's already a step ahead.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
That's huge.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I thought that guy was gonna get fired a long
time ago, and he still seems to be hanging around.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
And numbers thirty On the list.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
You'll find some familiar names like the offensive coordinator for
the Saints, Doug Nussmeyer, and the head coach of the Saints,
Kellen Moore.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
Oh no, so I'm imagining the Cowboys are going to
be towards the back of this list as well, and
then all their retreads that have gone on are also
at the back of the list.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Well wait, did you you just told this team number
thirty two and team number thirty Yeah, thirty one, duck
to guests, I guess against the Cowboys based on the
way you're laying this out.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
No, it's the Jaguars. The Jaguars are interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
You know. They're head coach is the guy who went
to He is the old Bucks offensive coordinator. He may
be good. They just don't know. They got guys who
are and they have also like a young GM too,
like they're all young. They're interesting to me because Travis
Hunter is gonna play both sides, probably a little bit
of both. And now they're like, oh yeah, he's proably

(01:51):
can play more wide receiver than we thought. Now like
they're like, we can't help it. We saw him.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
So is he gonna be a full time starting quarterback?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I think that's the plan. I think that's their playing daddy,
But I don't know. I mean, that's what makes sense.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
That's what Dion was, full time quarterback and then use
them on offense as much as you can without getting
them hurt.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Kellimore.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
The Saints is interesting just because they don't have a
quarterback really. I mean, they're running out a couple guys
who are not going to be very good, Spencer Rattler
and Tyler Shuck. But they might be tanking for arch Manning,
who is you know, maybe staying in college for another year,
so they may be screwed. The other guy who might

(02:31):
win the Heisman, though, is Garrett Nussmeyer, the quarterback at LSU,
the son of Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeyer, former Cowboys
quarterback coach. So they've got some things to think about
if they win four games, which they might. At number
twenty nine, you're Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, come on top thirty
high top thirty.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, we made it to the top thirty.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
This is exactly what you want. The defensive coordinator, Matt
Ebra flush offensive coordinator. Don't talk about this guy much.
Know who it is, Clayton Adams. I couldn't have told
you that.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Our guy, Clayton Adams, good young guy. Unknown. I think
what they're they're back at the towards the end here
because of the unknown.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I believe in your head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, my guy. Okay,
So there's a couple of things they wrote about this.
I thought was interesting for US guys. Shottenheimer called plays
in twelve of the fourteen seasons that he's been NFL
coach as offensive coordinator. Two of those seasons he didn't.
McCarthy was head coach, So that makes sense, right, Yeah,

(03:40):
if look at all fourteen those seasons, ohs, his average
success rate on offense is actually decent.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
So I think, like, kind of fine there. I I
think went to the Cowboys like.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
They may not run the ball much, and I think
he probably wants to run the ball, but maybe he's
not enough the time to do that. But if the
Cowboys throw it forty times a game, who cares? I
have no problem with the Cowboys will try to be
the Bengals. They have to Jamar Chase and T Higgins,
Joe Burrow.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
Yeah, they're gonna be great fantasy team. They're receiving core
because they're gonna throw and throw and throw and throw,
and they're gonna be behind a lot. They're not gonna
be able to stop the run and they're not gonna
be able to run the ball effectively, so they're gonna
have to.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Throw all the time.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
So a note from practice yesterday and again they have
preseason game with the Rams on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, Saturday.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
They got their ass whipped at practice again by the Rams,
because the Rams are good. But one thing that shot
he had said told me it basically was like, hey,
we're not we're not show on anything, and we're not
gonna show anything in the preseason either. We're not showing
any Well if they're getting their ass kicked at practice yesterday,
and he gave in and called to play that. Even

(04:48):
the other coaches were like, dude, why are you burning
this now? But he couldn't help it. They were getting
their ass kicked and they threw a bomb and it
is a big play. He's competitive, and he's exactly he's
competitive and he's like, Okay, I'm not get whipped all
day long here.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
So that was pretty good. I don't know how it's
gonna go.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
I think they're gonna be way better than people think,
because I think their roster is better than last year.
Problem is, schedule gets really hard after on the back
half of the season. But I just I still feel
like there's no one in the NFC who's scary at all.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Lets seeing the NFC could be you, It really could
be now.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I would bet on that, but like, it's not that close.
You want to be surprised if the Eagles fail this year? No,
what is this division? No one wins it back to
back years?

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Anyways, What are the expectations for the forty nine ers?

Speaker 2 (05:39):
They're old and hurt all the time.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
But if they're healthy, like George Kittle and Ayuk are
healthy and McCaffrey is healthy, then yeah, their defense is
kind of bad last year. I don't know what their
expectations are. Yeah, I'm curious, very much unknown.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
No one doesn't.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
The Lions are gonna be good again, great roster. They
lost their geniuses, they lost their coordinators. So if Captain
Caveman gonna take them all the way introduce he walks
in the room and he goes, I'm Dan Campbell, just
like Captain Caveman did when he opened the door and
announced his own name was Ebra.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Was Ebra Flusa defensive coordinator before he went to the Bears.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yes, for the Colts. For the Colts.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Okay, here's the last pair of this. I struggled to
get excited about eber Flusa's defensive coordinator. Ibra Flus's defenses
tend to look strong against bad opponents, but struggle against
elite quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Oh, everybody struggles against elite quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I would say that too. Yeah, simple scheme, easy to
find space. Adam's ad offensive coordinator, however's exciting for football hipsters.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Previously the Cardinals running game coordinator. He's got a deep
bag of quirky rushing schemes. An injection of creativity on
the ground could be big for Shaddy's offense.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Bring on Turpin, they're better than twenty ninth. I'll tell
you that. Ring on Turpin.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Go cab on you.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
