Speaker 6 (01:03):
Oh yes, thank you for tuning in today on a
Tuesday to the world famous Ben and Skin Show. And
it is Veterans Day, a Veterans Day edition of our show.
So we want to say thank you to everybody out
there who has served in the military and thank their
families as well.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
This show is dedicated to you guys.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
In a we're all hands on deck, Ben Rogers, Jeff
skin Wade, Kevin KT Turner and Christina little Baby corn
Bread Ray. And there's massive news today obviously, as Nico
Harrison is out as general manager of the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
We knew this was coming.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
It felt imminent, and last night at that game, Skin,
I mean, there you are broadcasting. I saw this on
social media, and I saw a lot of stuff on
social media. One of the things I saw was the
fire Nico chants were so loud in the arena that
people that lived in nearby could hear those chants clearly
and make up what they were saying. I don't think
(01:57):
that's accurate, because I was wearing a headset and we're like,
what's kind of going on? I like, yeah, I mean,
I bet there are people outside chaining it though I
could hear it through the broadcast. Yeah, for what that's worth,
fire Nico chants were loud, and there was also on
social media because you're in this shot, they were zooming
in on Nico. And it was in that moment that
(02:18):
for the first time I felt bad, because I felt
bad for him as a human being, just human to human. Obviously,
it's the worst trade in the history of humanity. Like,
it's such a bad trade that we'll probably never see
a trade that bad ever again in all the world,
in any category, much less sports.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
It's the worst trade that's ever happened.
Speaker 6 (02:40):
But as that man sat there alone in that chair
and his team was losing again and those chants rained
down on him.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I felt bad for him.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
Yeah, you know, I also think and that clip has
gone around and it's viral, and it means a lot
to me because my daughter's in it.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
She was saying, oh, is that right? Yeah, I heard
and her boyfriend were sitting behind us last night.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
But you know that clip, the one that I've seen
that's going around, that's late in the game, and it
was after PJ missed that free throw and or my
you know, it possibly could have been the one. There
was one that's there was basically there was about four
chants last night and they started happening when the Maverick
tron bad runs, like you know that that run that
(03:24):
Milwaukee went on where they were bombing those threes and
getting back in the game. That's when they started. And
then they were again late in the game, and then
they finally after PJ. Washington missed that second free throw,
they started up again. And I think that that's when
that clip that's going around was taken. But the other
thing about that clip is at that point, and you know,
(03:46):
I didn't talk to a miss day or even see him.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
He was behind me. I didn't see him.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
It was actually my daughter's boyfriend said, you know, Nico
was sitting right back there. I was like, well, I've
seen him back there, but I didn't know. But he
also at that point, that's a man that's publicly sitting
there and knows he's about to be fired. Yeah, you know,
and so that probably who knows what he's thinking today,
you know, who knows what he's going through or whatever.
But he's been through a lot of chance. And I've
(04:10):
actually seen fans go up to him because he has
been sitting there and some of the interactions and stuff.
And remember that clip that was going around to those
guys that were Texas tech fans that went up to
him and he was okay, So he's dealt with a
lot of this stuff. But that clip that you're referring
to was the first time I've seen his body language
look like that. Yeah, And to me, it looked like
(04:32):
the body language of a man that knows, all right,
I'm going.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
To be fired. Defeated. Yeah, you know. There's just.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
The trade is so bad, just to trade a global
icon for a guy that's never healthy, that's six years
older and you just got fleeced by the Lakers. You
didn't get near enough return for him, and it just
sets you back as a franchise so much that you
know this is a pr thing.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Though moving on from him is.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Like, there's no they don't have the next GM ready
to go, right, It's just like, hey, look, we got
to get this negative energy away. Like I can't imagine
that there's any moves that are going to be made
before the trade deadline. I can't imagine because we'll talk
about all this stuff throughout the show. But getting the
next GM is a critical thing. You don't do it
(05:25):
in the middle of the season. So matt Riccardi, who's
the assistant GM who's been here for I think since
twenty twenty two maybe, and Michael Finley who's also the
assistant GM, who's been here a long time, they're co
interim gms.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Well they've already been here.
Speaker 6 (05:40):
So basically it's like, hey, put your hand on this
steering wheel because the guy who's driving is gone, but
just keep your hand on the same they're right there.
Unless Usually what happens if like in the case of
the Dumont Natilson family, they're part of this big giant
corporation that runs casinos. So what they're going to do
is they're going to hire an outside firm to start
(06:03):
doing analysis. Here are the candidates. And by the way,
that's what Cuban did when he landed on Nico. Cuban
consulted with one of these firms. It's pretty common in sports.
If you don't have basketball ties and bloodlines, you know,
then that's what you do.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
You do what any major corporation does.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
You bring in an outside professional firm that specializes in
sports consulting. Here are the candidates. Here's who you should
talk to because this Patrick Dumont's been in this world
for less than two years, less than two years, and
he's not here every day. He's running casinos all over
the world, it resorts, so he's not equipped to just
come in and go all right, here's our next GM
(06:41):
Like this is to her. You said it right, This
is basically what's happening is not working. It feels catastrophic.
There's tons of negative energy. We have to do something
to make our fans happy, and it's pretty clear no
fans want Nico Harrison here, so we'll eliminate that Hopefully
it'll give us some oxygen and to breathe, but they're
not going to make any massive moves until they have
(07:03):
a new GM in place. It's crazy too, because even
if you say, all right, man, this trade is the
worst trade that's ever happened. We screwed and torpedoed our
own franchise, were cooked. Let's just rebuild. You're gonna find
out hard it's going to be to trade ad or
Kai if you want to do that, because it's all
gonna be basically almost impossible to trade Anthony Davis, which
(07:27):
then you go back to just eighteen months ago, we.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Traded luc for for Anthony Davis. We traded the MVP
for a guy that now we won't be able to
get rid of. You know, what I really think is
going to happen.
Speaker 6 (07:40):
What I really think is going to happen is the
most telling thing of all of this, about a guy
who's like, all right, I'm taking a deep breath, I'm
going to exhale, and we're going to figure out how
to fix this thing. They have Cooper Flag, Okay, that's
a great place to start. They've got a lot of
good players dealing with a lot of injuries right now.
(08:02):
If they didn't have all these injuries, I think that
they would be winning some games and it would be
a different environment. There would still be all the fire
Nico stuff and all that would be going on, but
it would feel different around the team. So they have injuries.
But the Anthony Davis thing, I don't know if you
guys remember last week. I thought Anthony Davis was playing
last weekend. I was pretty confident he was going to play.
(08:24):
Anthony Davis and Nico Harrison tried to get Anthony Davis
on the court this weekend against Washington, and Patrick Dumont
was one of the people, according to all accounts, saying,
hold on a second, we don't need to have a
repeat of what happened last year. And that's an indication
they had already made their decision. We're going in a
different direction.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Now.
Speaker 6 (08:44):
We have to figure out how to unroll that and
how to figure out but there's not going to be
any seismic moves about the next direction. We're eleven games
into a basketball season. What they're going to try to
do is get everybody healthy when they get healthy, and
as us what they have because right now, they just
had to eliminate all the negative energy that was permeating
(09:06):
around the team that losing exacerbated. Right, everyone already had
that negative energy for Nico. Now compound that with three
and eight.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Right.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
I don't think this is going to get rid of
the negative energy. I think it's going to get rid
of a lot of it. Just it's going to get
rid of the fire and Nico chance. But the reality
that sets in that you're trapped and you can't win
with this team the way it's constructed, I think is
I think that's gonna I think that's going to do
some damage to Let's do this. Let's coming up next.
Let's turn our attention to the way that they made
(09:38):
the announcement. Let's have KT do a dramatic reading of
Patrick Dumont's letter Benen Skin Show ninety seven point one
the Eagle. Don't forget All week long, we're giving away
nine inch nails tickets. Be listening for your chance to win.
We use that iHeart app to talk back feature. But
there's going to be a clue from something that happened
in the show, and then you'll have a chance to win.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
So be listening all day long. The big story of
the day.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Nico Harrison, the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, or
maybe he was just president of basketball operations, but he
has been relieved of his duties. All the wind was
blowing that direction. The maverickshrow to a very bad three
and eight start almost one last night against Milwaukee in
an incredible game by Cooper Flagg, but the very end
(10:20):
controversial play, he falls down and they lose their chance
to win that one.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
But they've been competitive the last couple games.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
They are playing better, but there's still three and eight
chants of fire, Nico raining down, and Nico Harrison was
fired or let go.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
This morning.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
Patrick Dumont was in town for all of that, and
as part of that, he fired off a letter to
the fans, an open letter to the fans, and here
with the dramatic reading, is our own Kevin K. T.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Turner.
Speaker 7 (10:50):
Hello, is this thing on? I'd like to start this
announcement with a joke. Did you know the man who
invented the Ferris wheel and the man who invented the
Merry go Round have never met? That's right, because they
travel in different circles. Okay, let's get down to business,
Dear MAVs family. You have every right to demand a
commitment to success from us. No one associated with the
(11:12):
Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we
all believed would be a promising season. I've made the
decision to part ways with general manager Nico Harrison. This
decision was critical to moving our franchise forward in a
positive direction. I understand the profound impact these difficult last
several months have had. Please know that I'm fully committed
(11:33):
to the success of the Mavericks. Thank you for your support,
thank you for holding us accountable, and thank you for
your passion and for your patience. You deserve transparency and
a team that reflects your spirit. Our goal is to
return winning basketball to Dallas and win championships. Our family
is committed to that mission and to continuing to invest
(11:55):
in Dallas and the Mavericks' future.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Go MAVs.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Patrick. Wow, I love the choice of joke at the beginning.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yeah, I didn't know that. I didn't read that in
the letter. Yeah, man, this is uh, this is this
is just bad on every level. Look, it's a perfect
storm of terribleness that this happened where Niko had already
been kind of living in a political landscape and getting
rid of other voices in there that had power to
where when some casinos come in, become some casino owners
(12:27):
come in and buy this team and couldn't even pick
a basketball out of a police lineup. He's the only
one with power, with no checks and balances, and he
he made this trade without anybody being able to have
any input to stop it. And so I appreciate this move.
It's the right move. But you know, at the same time,
it's like he's like, I'm gonna do everything I can now.
(12:49):
I gotta go jump on a plane. I'll be back
in a month.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
You know.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
It's like it just is what it is.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
These guys are there, they're casino moguls, and they're some
of the richest people in the world, and they want
to build a big resort casino here. But I don't know, man,
the after effects of this are not going away anytime soon.
Firing Nicos doesn't undo the trade. It just gets rid
of a lot of negative pr. Yeah, that's what it does.
(13:14):
It gets rid of negative pr. It's interesting. Both McMahon
and Stein had in their reports that before the game,
Mark Cuban and Rick Welts met with Patrick Dumont's. Now
if you don't know who Rick Welts is, he's the
CEO of the team.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
He was brought in.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
A little bit after this time last year, sent was
still around. He was brought in basically to oversee, you know,
he the new arena. He did that for the Golden
State Warriors. He was the CEO for the Golden State
Warriors during the dynasty.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
So has these.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Relationships with Clay and staff and the Warriors organization, which
culturally is phenomenal. He also worked in Phoenix with Steve
Kerr and Steve Nash, launched the WNBA. He invented All
Star Weekend. Like there's all these amazing things that Rick
Welts is in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
He's a Hall of Famer. He was retired.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
He was brought in to oversee the new arena and
the new thing that this family, the Dumont family and
the Addison family are doing. And he had been on
the job for I don't know, like a month, and
then Luca was traded and he was suddenly the CEO
during a public relations crisis.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
It's not what he signed up for, but that's what happened.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
And so the report that Stein and McMahon had that
Patrick was in there meeting with Rick and meeting with
Mark and figuring out how they're going to do this
and what they're going to do next, which is also
lent credence to this idea that Dennis Lindsay, who works
for the Detroit Pistons right now, could possibly be brought in.
(14:52):
But one of the things that's interesting is whenever you
have you were talking about a political landscape, whenever you
have chaos, people who are savvy operatives, if you whatever
you want to call it. They either get power or
reassert their power. And Mark Cuban was stripped of all
his power when he sold the team. He's been public
(15:13):
about that. He didn't think he was doing that, That's
what happened. And so I would assume that they're going
to move forward in a new direction with a new
GM and all this stuff, and Cuban will not have
input on basketball operations. But I think it's good that
Patrick talked to Mark and talked to Rick, because who
else in this organization should he be talking to, right
(15:34):
That's it, man, those are the guys that are Rick
is a basketball lifer. He's been in the NBA since
the seventies. And you know, Mark has been here in Dallas,
knows his fan base for twenty five years or more.
So he's a good guy to talk to. But this
is going to be a process to figure out who
comes in here next. Yeah, and I just think Dumont's
(15:55):
you know, they're culpable in this too. And I think
it's very possible that Fire and Nico Chance just turn
in to sell the team Chance, but they've got, they've
bought it themselves a little bit of time to turn
this around. Hopefully they can't. All right, we're gonna take
us in Things Skin is Tracking all right. Coming up next,
let's talk about when companies get too big. There was
a kid sitting next to Nico Harrison at the game
(16:16):
in a Lakers Luca jersey, and we are gonna have
that kid on our show. I don't think he's been
on the radio anywhere else. We're gonna have him on
at five o'clock, So don't miss that. Coming up in
ten minutes, it's Christina's Cookie Jar. But right now it's
time for this.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Track, another edition of Things Skin is Tracking all Right.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
I you know, we have a conversations from time to
time on here about customer service, right, and usually it's
me yelling at someone on the phone. But one of
the things that I do like in general is if
I have a service I need, whether it's medical or whatever,
if I can, I want to go as someone smaller
or medium size, because when you end up in big company, man,
(17:01):
you just get lost in that sauce. So do you
have We've talked about this, it has been many years.
But do you have a pool cleaning company that comes
and cleans your pool or do you guys do it?
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Oh? Hell no, you know the answer to that. I
don't do it. We have somebody who does it. Okay, Yeah,
in some ways it's and it's a what size company?
Is it not huge? Okay?
Speaker 6 (17:20):
I was rocking with a company that was smaller sized
from our pool service, and I loved them, thought they
were great. And then one day got the letter, Hey,
we have sold our company to this bigger company with
this name, and it's.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
A company I was familiar with.
Speaker 6 (17:40):
Don't like, but rest assured it'll be everything that you've
always come to expect from us, and everything's fine. Did
you rest assured? I was like, Man, I got a
hundred problems. I can't add this to the list, so
I can't think about this. Fine, whatever it is is,
whatever it is to move forward. So we just moved forward.
(18:04):
And that's one of the things. I honey, just please
handle this. I got a million things I gotta do.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
You just handle it. Well.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
There's nothing but dissatisfaction on that end. And it got
to where she was complaining about it a lot. This
didn't happen like they said. This didn't happen like they said.
And so all I hear is here's more crap for
you to deal with.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Skin. That's all I hear in my head that I
don't want to deal with.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
And so I called an old friend that had worked
in that business, and I said, hey, this problem that
keeps happening is continually happening. And they said, we can
get it fixed. Here's what it costs. Would you just
look at this quote and give me your opinion. So
I forwarded him the quote. He goes ouch. He goes, yeah,
(18:47):
that thing that you're charging you threw enter and eighty
four dollars for it could probably get fixed for sixty bucks.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Ooh all right.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
So I was like, okay, I don't want to handle this.
I don't want to deal with this. Do you have
anybody that you recommend? He goes, Yeah, there's this other company.
They're a smaller company. You know, I can put you
in touch. So he put me in touch. So I
sent the email to the older company, the big thing
that's got too many people, and I was like, hey,
(19:16):
thank you for this quote. I'm going to go ahead
and pass you know, if you know, thank you for
your time. Please terminate my service effective immediately. You didn't
put it in their face, you get done for sixty No,
because to me, it's like I just don't ever want
to talk to them ever again. Right, But there would
be a slight inkling to like just stick it to
(19:38):
him a little bit. There is that if I had
the time to think about it.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:43):
So then yesterday I get this text, good morning, This
is Blank, the maintenance supervisor here at Massive Pool Cleaning Company.
I just wanted to follow up on the maintenance cancelation
to see if I could find the root cause and
possibly get things corrected. We do value you as a
big giant company customer and are willing to do what
(20:05):
it takes to help.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Damn.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
This is my direct contact. Oh, so if you have
any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out anytime.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Damn okay, trying to save it? Hey blank being blunt here.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Y'all are too big a company operation to provide the
service we wanted a price point that makes sense to us.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Thank you for reaching out response.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
If I could drop the price and work with you
on that aspect, would that help? Any issues with the
cleaning can definitely be fixed. I have not responded, would
you respond? Uh? If you gave me your phone, i'd
respond maybe a picture pick, Yeah, it'd be a long
(20:50):
pick probably, um now yeah, I mean I would just
flat out say, hey man, another company said they can
do what you said you'd do for three point eighty
They'll do it for sixty bucks.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Can you beat that price? Yeah? And the thing is is,
let's say they beat the price. I don't want them.
Oh yeah, they're still doing a bad job. And so
I think I told you guys this before.
Speaker 6 (21:13):
I left a dentist that i'd gone to for our family,
gone to for a long time because he told me,
if you don't get in VISI line, that crooked tooth
is going to crack and fall out. And I was
like that sounds like BS. So I went to another dentist.
He goes, I can't believe that person told you that. Yep,
check out, immediately hit the eject button.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Immediately.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
So someone says, hey, what if I cut you a
deal on this overchargeing I've been doing.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
If someone shows you who they are, believe them right
and so to me, I'm sure there's giant companies out
there that do a good job. It is so hard
to maintain customer service for a pool when you get
no I think for all kinds of when you're running
that many things like getting good customer service, that's the
(22:00):
toughest thing to maintain in business.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
But you're missing an opportunity to have some fun with
that guy. I would like to.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Can I respond in the commercial break with whatever i'd like?
I think that's a wonderful all right, Okay, I'll do
that and then we'll read it. Coming up next, Christina,
where are you going to take some in the cookie jar?
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Can you decipher these lyrics? We're going to take a
look at hidden messages and songs? Ooh, I love that.
All right, that's coming up next.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
Don't miss it, but beco Harrison out with the Dallas
Mavericks will continue to get into that throughout today.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
It's a veteran's day.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
Super grateful to everyone out there who has served, as
well as their families today. Did you send the message
I sent you to your pool cleaner?
Speaker 3 (22:33):
No, I have not sent it yet.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
Are you going to I'll decide during the here's the
message later times. Dear sirs, I must respond in haste
to alert you that you and your are to alert
you and yours to the fact that I no longer
wish to continue this dialogue. See I'm helping you out there. Yeah,
I like to any worded. While you are incredibly sweet
to try to jelly this toasty roll, I simply must
(22:57):
refrain from allowing you to sugar d me. Thank you
for understanding. Good Night, good night, good night to you.
I think it's a good way to I'm gonna send
it when the sun goes tug.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Okay, good. We'll get back into the Nico thing next,
But right now, it's Stu.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
For this, the.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
St the Giant Tackle the.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
You know, it's tough to get you guys out to
the movie theaters, but there is a movie I would
like for you guys to make time for because I
think it's a contender, a contender for Best Movie of
the Year, a contender for Best Actor, a contender for
Best Actress. The movie's called Bougonia. Maybe it's Bogonia.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Surely up to you. Probably. I've promised my wife I
will see this with her in the next week.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
It's two hours long. I like to say that and
get out in front of that real quick. One hour
fifty eight minutes. So it's not a full marathon.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
It's fine. It is from your Ghos Lanthemos. That's your director.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
He's directed such films as a OSCAR nominated movie Poor
Things in twenty twenty three, which had Emma Stone in it.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
I didn't make it all the way through that half.
It's weird. Halfway through it, I was like, I want
to think about something else right now. It's weird, but
it's awesome. Yeah. Poorer Things, Uh, poor Things.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
So where Emma Stone's like a little Frankenstein girl and
she just keeps having sex.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
They made yeah, they remade her. Yeah, so she's got
to go through life. It's a big experiment. Yeah, it's fun. Movie,
really was. He did The Lobster back in twenty fifteen,
but which was a wild movie where basically, if you
a bunch of single people are taken to a hotel
and if they can't find a partner within forty five days,
(24:46):
then they choose what animal they want to be.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
What I tell you, your goos is nuts, okay.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
And here's the thing about your ghosts is Emma Stone
loves him and she's like, if he's got something, I'll
do it no matter what. Talk to my agent. We're
good you, We're so. She had done two or three
things with him. There was a movie called Kinds of
Kindness that came out earlier in the year with her
and Jesse Plemons. There's a few others in that movie.
I never saw it because it wasn't reviewed very well,
(25:12):
and that's a terrible thing. But like, you just know
if the buzz is good enough to spend your money
on or not. You know, at some point this movie
is so good. And I'm telling you, one battle after another,
I think I like more, but I could see why
this movie is a contender. My wife liked this one
more than one battle after another. And she loved one
(25:34):
battle after another. Jesse Plemons, this is your moment, dude,
So he is a guy kind of down on his
luck guy. They don't really give you a ton of
backstory until as the movie goes on. He's got a
buddy who's living with him, and they kidnap Emma Stone,
who is the CEO of a big time medical pharmaceutical
(25:54):
company right she runs it, So they kidnap her because
they think she's an alien. And that's all I'm gonna say,
because you could ruin the movie by saying too much.
You just gotta watch it because you don't know what's
gonna happen next. It's so it's a little dark, but
(26:16):
it's funny at times too, and it's just so good.
I mean I walked out same feelings that you had
after one battle after another, same feelings that you had
after parasite, you know, stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Like I'm telling you, like I like shaking because I
was like that was so good. Cool. So I want
you guys to see it.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't eat during It's like it's not
like crazy gory like grown up or blood. It's just dark,
you know, and you don't know you never you never
see Fecius.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
But it's not you're not like dying to have a
sandwich while you watch.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
Yeah, I know, I'm a guy. I mean I haven't
watching an episode of Always Sunny while I eat.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
You know, you just never know.
Speaker 8 (26:55):
There's like a cat walking around an apartment makes me
want to gag because they're probably gonna pee somewhere.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
Yeah, so Bougonia's the movie contender Jesse Plemmons over Leonardo
DiCaprio for Best act.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Damn go.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
I mean it all right, Emma Stone, Yep, yeah, all
right again, Yeah, very good, good job kJ.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Yeah, I tell you, dude, that's a great review. I
look forward to that.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
Benan skin Joe ninety seven point one The Eagle. Let's
give away those nine inch Nails tickets. The first person
using the Iheard app to leave their name, their phone number,
their email address, and can tell us which movie did
KT just recommend that we all go see. If you
were listening, you know, KT recommended that we go to
the theater and see this movie?
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Which one is it?
Speaker 6 (27:39):
The first person that tells us and gives us all
that information windows highly coveted nine inch Nails tickets, And
we have more to give away later in the week,
but right now it's time for this.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Now this is cool.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Around the sports KT quets as all the sports.
Speaker 8 (27:57):
Yes, yeah, I do have all the sports. The Mavericks
and fire their general manager Nico Harrison.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
What this morning?
Speaker 8 (28:06):
Yeah right, And we should tease a head because at
five o'clock we will have on Nicholas Dickinson, the kid
who was photographed in a Luka Doncic Lakers jersey next
to MAVs owner Patrick Dumont five o'clock.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Do not miss that, man.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
I looked up in the middle of the game and
saw that kid sitting there, and I just thought it
was like one of Patrick's kids.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
I had no idea.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
I didn't know that it was a thing until after
the game and I saw stories about it and stuff. Yeah,
you know, because there's you know, he's got kids and stuff,
and I don't know who his kids are or aren't.
And it didn't occur to me in the middle of
a game that some kid that's not his would be
sitting next to him in a Luca like. I didn't
even think about it, but you thought it might be
his kid wearing a Luca tree.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
I mean I did.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
I wasn't even thinking about it being a Luca jersey.
I just kid yeah, and I thought it's either you know,
all those people on the front row all usually know
each other and stuff, so I thought it was just
because he was talking to him.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
So I thought, oh, there's a kid that he knows.
Speaker 6 (28:59):
And then after were afterwards, I saw the athletic articles,
so I was like, oh, that was the thing.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
I had no idea. So let me ask you this skin.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Shoot, the Mavericks don't own a first round pick after
this draft, their own first round pick till twenty thirty one,
I believe, yeah, because right there's drafts where people can
swap with them, right, yeah, So they have this years
and then it starts right yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:23):
And so.
Speaker 6 (29:26):
Like if you are to say, hey, like both both
plans are in trouble. Like the win now plan is
in huge trouble because they just can't stay healthy. The
rebuild plan is in trouble because you are already committed
huge financially to these veterans that are almost untradable because
(29:46):
the team that would acquire them would be a contender,
and then they're going to go into some luxury tax
threshold that's going to murder their soul. Yeah, so it's
not like you can go trade these guys to commit
to rebuilding, it wouldn't be easy to to go get
which you don't really have. So like both windows are
in a bad situation. The best thing that could happen
(30:07):
would be that they suddenly got healthy and did something
and were able to compete this year, which is.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Why I think.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
You know, Anthony Davis has been held out of the
last two games when he wanted to play.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Bye, I'm talking. I don't have insight information. This is
the reports that are out there, and I believe them
to be true.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
I just don't have confidence that even if he's fully healthy,
he can stay healthy and keep playing. I think that's
really playing like fourteen out of forty five games or
whatever since he's been here, and he came here as
being the most hurt guy in the history of ever
in my perception, So I just don't think building around
him is smart either.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
But it kind of is where they is.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
They feel stuck and I don't know even how a
new GM could help get them out of this hole.
So this is a pr move in a lot of ways.
But if they in the offseason, if they do go
get a different GM, what are what could he do?
Like if you were the GM, what would you be
looking at doing? Uh that, I can't Well, it's kind
(31:04):
of hard to answer what it's going to be like
because I think this team can be good and I
you know, if they if they do get healthy this year,
I think they're going to ruin somebody's season because this
is a really good team. You guys realize, this is
a top five defensive team right now. Without Anthony Davis
and Jaron.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
You just can't. It's very much like Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
The Rangers are the Cowboys, right, you're doing one side
jackal Hyde and both things. But if you replace Brandon
Williams with Kyrie Irving, you would feel wildly different about
this basketball team if you had Lively in Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Yeah, Like it's real quick.
Speaker 8 (31:36):
The specific nature of Anthony Davis's injury is concerning, Yeah,
because in my head, I'm going trading before the Achilles
pops and that's terrible. Well, it doesn't mean that's what's
going to happen, but like it's him and that's just there,
and yeah, get rid of that.
Speaker 6 (31:49):
And it's all you know, it's the overall absurdity of
the trade in the first place. You know, there's all
these articles that came out about dissatisfaction with Luca's work
ethic and all this sort of stuff that we can
talk about, okay, and like, okay, if that's real and
you feel that way, you traded him for a guy
that's a lot older, that has an injury history, So
(32:10):
that's flawed logic. Like, aside from the talent of the player,
Anthony Davis when he's healthy is a top ten NBA player,
arguably the best two way player in basketball. But I
said this when we traded for Kyrie Irving. Remember I
was scared of that.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Do you know why?
Speaker 6 (32:26):
It's not hard pull up Basketball Reference and look at
the availability for the last three seasons. That's just real
basic stuff. We're not even doing hard analysis here. Oh look,
he's played about forty five games every year. I mean,
you know, so Nico's logic in acquiring Anthony Davis and
he loves that player.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
He loved that player.
Speaker 6 (32:47):
He thought that player could do everything the Mavericks needed,
and I think if one hundred percent healthy, he could.
But there's no track record of the health. So that's
what makes it such a flawed thing. And then to
compound that, he couldn't just go shop him on the
open market, because it would have gotten shut down immediately
by the agent. So he decided, no matter what, I'm
(33:08):
getting rid of that guy, and this guy over here
is who I want. And Nico Harrison idealized a guy
who's been hurt pretty much sitt and I said this
at the time.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
I don't know if you guys remember this.
Speaker 6 (33:19):
At this time last year, the talk of the NBA
is that the MVP of the league was Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Then you know what happened. He got hurt. Imagine that, So, dude,
they flawed, they fleeced him.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
I mean Polinka, you know, Kobe's old agent, He's Kobe's
old shoe guy. Get together to coffee shop and make
the worst deal in the history of the Mavericks and
best deal in the history of the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Like, it's not it's just absolute horsepoop.
Speaker 6 (33:47):
It's it's going to be very difficult to move forward
without the guys that you have on your team being healthy.
Because if this team is fully healthy, I think they're
a top three team in the West.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
I absolutely think that.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
It's so tough though, to have Kyrie back from a
knee injury that soon to say, you've got to come
save our season.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
We can't be offensive as a team without you.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
Yeah, And my whole thing, and the whole time has
been can Kyrie this year be eighty percent of what
he was last year?
Speaker 8 (34:14):
Like?
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Is that even realistic?
Speaker 6 (34:16):
Because if he's eighty percent of what he was last year,
you still are going to mop the floor with some teams.
What are his and AD's contract situation this offseason? So
Kyrie re signed, so he's in. He's in for three years,
and I think he has an opt out in two
I believe. Okay, Anthony Davis has two more years after
this season, and I think he can opt out at
(34:37):
the end of next year.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
So he's here.
Speaker 6 (34:42):
But you know, without getting into the minutia, that it's
so difficult to trade very high priced players, and then
it becomes even more difficult when they're older, and then
it becomes even more difficult when they're injury prone. So
that's what Anthony Davis is. He's got a lot of injuries,
he's now in his early to mid thirty and he
makes a ton of money.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
So all that is very difficult.
Speaker 6 (35:03):
Oh that's awesome, all right, Coming up next though, Let's
turn our attention to the Dallas Cowboys. Let's cuss the Cowboys.
Suddenly the Cowboys draft picks are looking a lot better.
We'll discuss next. Nico Harrison out as general manager of
the Dallas Mavericks. The fire Nico Chance worked. Nico Harrison
no longer in charge of personnel for the Mavericks. We'll
(35:24):
get back into it a little bit later. At five o'clock.
The kid who was sitting next to Patrick Dumont at
the MAVs game last night in a Luca Laker jersey
joins us at five o'clock.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Don't miss that. But right now it's time for.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
This Cowboy.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Surprise.
Speaker 8 (35:55):
It was a rare night where if you're a Cowboys fan,
you were pulling for the Eagles, probably because your best
way to get in the playoffs is likely going to
be by sneaking into the wild card, probably going I
don't know, man like six and two, seven and one,
your last eight.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Games, no problem. But the Packers.
Speaker 8 (36:15):
The Packers loss uh changes your draft position as well, though,
because the worst the Packers are, the better it is
for the Cowboys. You have those two picks, and the Packers,
despite holding Saquon Barkley to sixty yards and only giving
up two catches for thirteen yards to aj Brown found
a way to lose at home to the Eagles. By
(36:36):
the way, the tush push has got to stop if
they're not going to call fall start.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
I don't know why they let them do it every time.
Speaker 8 (36:42):
Unbelieva and everyone called the packers a bunch of wooses,
but they were called this is bad.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
It's it's illegal, like you can't be off sides.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
You know what they can easily do next year in
the committee on this, they can say every time you
run the tush push, will immediately do a replay without
charging a timeout. They'll look at it and they'll determine
if a penalty because it's too hard to officiate, it's not.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
It's not a hard fix. Yeah, we can do the
quick quicker. We'll be prepared for it.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
The guards are moving, yeah, and they're like they're past
the line of scrimmage when the ball snap.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
Yeah, but why is that hard to see? I don't
understand why it's hard to officiate. Is normal off sides
or false starts hard to officiate? They're moving before the
ball snap.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
That's not is it? Because everyone's just crammed up together.
Speaker 8 (37:29):
Maybe you know, I mean the way they you know,
the way your helmets are on the offensive line. You
can see if the guards are moving past the center,
they're not even lined up on sides.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Most weird. Weird, It's very weird.
Speaker 6 (37:41):
I mean, don't don't eliminate it, just call it. You know,
look at it. You have the ability to look at it,
and then that'll change all that. If they get a
five yard penalty every time they run it, they'll stop
running it.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
I hate the Eagles.
Speaker 8 (37:54):
Soap bad Packer's head coach Matt Lfloura has been voted
guy most likely to be walking around with a con
them on outside of his jeans.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Dude, let Jordan love cook. Why are we just it's
very very disappointing for me.
Speaker 8 (38:08):
So your Cowboys pick right now if the season were
to end today, or they would have the twelfth pick
and the twenty first pick.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
I like that.
Speaker 8 (38:14):
Let me tell you, boys, you can do a lot
with that. You can sit there, you can jump up, Okay,
jump back.
Speaker 6 (38:20):
That Cowboys pick will get a lot better because I
think they're about to lose a lot.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Oh, they just got Quentin Williams. Dude, yeah, they get
the Raiders, they're good, yep, getting the safeties back. They're
going to lose a lot just because they can't play defense.
It's so weird.
Speaker 6 (38:32):
Like our baseball team had nothing but pitching and no offense.
Our football team has nothing but offense and no defense.
Our basketball team nothing but defense, no offense. Why can't
we have two good things on a team? Well, the Stars,
that's why. Honestly though, that's why I use prize picks,
because I can mix and match sports.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Deack, oh that's good. Yeah, that's pretty good.
Speaker 8 (38:53):
I do have a quick note on it's in the division,
all right. So the Cowboys, I mean the Giants fired
the head coach, es say Brian Dave ball bow ball
and Dave bowboo has never he never beat the Cowboys.
Did j'all know that in all those years he never
beat the Cowboys? I figured because I don't remember the
last time we lost to the Giants. So the Vegas
odds to be the next head coach Jason Giants, Jason Garrett,
(39:17):
come on, give it to me. But you're you're on
the right path. Oh McCarthy, Mike McCarthy, And kind of
makes sense, it kind of makes sense. The big thing
we're watching right now because they have played until Monday night,
and I guess they're just now getting back to the facility.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
A lot of talk.
Speaker 8 (39:34):
Jerry Steven been doing their interviews and they're just talking
about Marshaw Neil and they're not talking about anything real.
I do think if if Matt Eberflus can set up
a defense and change the defensive fronts a little bit,
there's you a little bit of confidence that he can
keep his job going into next year. And Jerry's already
said he doesn't want to change if it's a coordinator
(39:54):
for the four. So if he's like creative after the
bye week and you're doing things because now you have
you know you can change your front a little not
doing what you've done all year, that's a good sign
watching for that.
Speaker 6 (40:04):
All this fan power in the Metroplex is great, but
fire eber Flus is a tough chant all right.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
Coming up next, it's the Today game just three minutes away.
Don't miss it.
Speaker 6 (40:12):
The big news in Dallas Fort Worth today as the
Mavericks have parted ways with their general manager, Nico Harrison,
and it really is a tie in to what happened
last night is the Mavericks lost again at the AAC.
But at some point during the game, there was a
young man I'll call him a kid because I'm an
old man. He's an eighteen year old and he was
(40:33):
sitting next to Patrick Dumont right there on the front row,
and he was wearing a Luca Lakers jersey.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
And I took so much joy from that. I was like,
I love it.
Speaker 6 (40:42):
Look at this, Patrick Dumont's at the game and the
guy sitting next to him is a huge Luca fan
in a Lakers jersey. Well, as details started emerging about
what that was, we quickly got in touch with the
parent of this young man who was there, and so
that has led us to this. We are now going
to you the kid I call him a kid because
I'm old. The kid who sat next to Patrick Dumont
(41:04):
last night, his name is Nicholas Dickinson. He is a
freshman at SMU, and ironically enough, he goes by, Nico,
how are.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
You doing today?
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Nico good, good, good to see you.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (41:15):
Of the two Nicos, I know you're having a better
day than the other one. That's probably safe to say.
So tell us what in the hell happened that put
you next to Patrick Dumont in a Lakers uniform.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Right, So I bought that Lakers jersey over the summer
after the Luca trade happened, and you know, after all
the jerseys started coming out and stuff, and I bought
it as a kind of protests because I knew I'd
be going to the Mats games this year, and I
bought it with going to the games in mind wearing
the Luca Lakers jersey as a protest against the trade.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
Okay, now I worked for the Maverick, So I'm sitting
opposite where you and Patrick Dumont were photographed together and everything.
So I didn't know it was going on until the
second half. So if you could kind of update us
on when did you sit down next to him, how
did you get there?
Speaker 3 (42:05):
How did all that come to be?
Speaker 8 (42:07):
Right?
Speaker 4 (42:08):
I had I flipped Patrick off on Opening night because
to get to my seats, I have to walk past Patrick.
So when we got blown out on Opening night, as
I was walking past them, I had some words for
him and then I flipped them off.
Speaker 6 (42:23):
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, Nico,
when you had words with him and flipped him off,
are you four feet away from him? Ten feet away
from him, right in front of his face?
Speaker 4 (42:35):
When I spoke to him, I was directly in front
of him, maybe a foot away. And when I flipped
him off, I had walked away probably twenty feet. I
was under the basket ish, okay, comparison to where he sits.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
And you can't listen, you can't cuss on the radio.
But did you cuss at this man? I did not.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I told him he was a modern genius.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Okay. So you said he's a modern genius. You're smart ass.
You didn't say that. I did? I did. I did
say that. So did he respond to that?
Speaker 1 (43:08):
Yeah he did. He said thanks, I appreciate.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
It, okay.
Speaker 6 (43:12):
And so you walked off and then you were still irate,
and you flipped the bird. Now, if that bird was
a NERF football and you threw it from however far
you were away, that he catched the football, was the
bird delivered?
Speaker 1 (43:25):
Oh? It absolutely was.
Speaker 4 (43:27):
He was still looking at me whenever I turned around
and flipped them the bird, and he he saw it.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
And yeah, no, he definitely saw it.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (43:35):
So now let's fast forward to last night. You know,
every time I've seen Patrick Dumont. He's had a lot
of security around him, and so I'm curious how you
got to just be sitting next to him in the
middle of a game. Did it start the half or
how'd all this come together?
Speaker 2 (43:50):
Right?
Speaker 4 (43:50):
I actually spoke to his security and told them that
I needed to apologize for flipping Patrick ass.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Okay, okay, I want to stop you there too, because
I want to know.
Speaker 6 (44:00):
Was like, that's a lot of time has passed between
now and the opening game, and so is this your
first time back to a game, and why did you
have to go talk to him?
Speaker 4 (44:10):
No, this is my this is I've been to one
game since opening night. I believe it was Oklahoma City,
and then I went last night and my dad said
that the next time I saw Patrick at a game,
I was required to apologize.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
Good for your dad. I hope you understand that that's
the right thing, right, Oh.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Yeah, yeah, it was.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
It was immature. It was a heat of the moment thing.
I'm looking back on it. It was I should not
flip Patrick off.
Speaker 6 (44:36):
Okay, but it's still you were. You had your finger
on the pulse of the Metroplex when you did that.
I'm sure there's a lot of people that would call
you a brave hero for doing that, but it's obviously
not the right thing to do.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
So here, your dad does the right thing.
Speaker 6 (44:48):
It says, hey, you're going to go apologize to this man,
and you sound like a mature young man, so you're like, okay,
I'm going to do it.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
So how did you go about getting past the security?
And then what happened? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (44:59):
So, well, I my dad is friends with the usher
that does our seats. We all know her, we all ever.
Her name is Tammy.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
Yeah whenever, And when I was gonna go walk up
to Patrick, I turned around and I looked at Tammy
and I go.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
I guess I have to go talk to Patrick now.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
And the security actually heard me say that and said, no,
you're not allowed. And that's when I explained to him
the situation. And then his security walked up to Patrick
asked him if it was okay for me to come apologize,
and then Patrick said that he wanted me to sit
next to him.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Okay, this is too good.
Speaker 6 (45:38):
Let's carry this over all right, coming up next, let's
find out what happened once Nico Dickison sat down next
to Patrick Dumont. We'll do it next right here on
The Eagle, Been and Skin Show ninety seven point one
The Eagle, We're right in the middle of a conversation
with a young man, Nico Dickison, who's eighteen years old
and sat next to Patrick Dumont last night at the
(45:59):
Maverick game. Now, Nico, we were just talking about this
about how long did you actually sit down there next
to mister Dumont?
Speaker 1 (46:05):
Probably around five minutes, all right, taking me.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
To see the conversation.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
Yeah, so I sat down, and you know, if Patrick
had already been informed that I was there to apologize
for flipping him the birds, So I sat down and
briefly apologized, and then we got to talking about the Mavericks.
And you know, we obviously touched on the Luca trade,
and I explained that I was a very passionate fan.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
I introduced myself to him.
Speaker 4 (46:31):
I kind of gave him a little background around myself,
and yeah, we just we talked about the trade.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
I talked a little bit about myself.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
He talked about his hopes for the Mavericks, and yeah,
that was that was the large part of the conversation.
Speaker 6 (46:47):
Did he express regret about the trade, as if he
hated that it happened or was a bad decision or
did he apologize for the trade?
Speaker 3 (46:53):
What was that all?
Speaker 1 (46:54):
What was that vibe he did?
Speaker 4 (46:56):
Yeah, he explained that he did what he did thinking
it was best for the franchise, but that looking back
on it, you know, we all make mistakes, and just
his mistake was broadcasting on an international level and you
know affected a franchise deeply, and it is what it is.
We can't go back on it.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
But yeah, he expressed regret for for the trade.
Speaker 6 (47:20):
Did he ask you to call him Patrick? Did you
walk up and say, mister Dumont is like, no, by
all means call me Patrick.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
You know I probably should be calling him mister Dumont,
but no, I've I've just been calling him Patrick. He
didn't tell me to call him that, but you're you're right,
I should I should be calling him mister Dumont.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
No, it's it's it's fine.
Speaker 6 (47:37):
But my question is, did you walk away from that
exchange with him feeling better about him or liking him
or how do you feel about all of it now?
Speaker 4 (47:44):
Oh? I think I I honestly, before last night I
hated Patrick.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
Going into today I like him.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
You got sugar, deed, would you consider going on a
second date?
Speaker 4 (47:59):
Yeah, I think, you know, maybe he was just saying
the right things, but I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
I think I think he he he.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
I think he has the map's best interest at mine,
and you know, he cares about the fans, and I
think we'll be all right.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Did he did he tip his hand that he was
gonna part ways with Nico today at all?
Speaker 6 (48:20):
No?
Speaker 4 (48:21):
I mean we had already kind of the mark Stein
headline had already kind of broken, so I didn't really
feel the need to touch on touch on it that much.
I I felt like it was already a foregone conclusion
by the time I was sitting next to him. And
from what I've been told, the decision was actually made
in a pregame meeting with Mark.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
Cuban and Rick.
Speaker 6 (48:44):
Yeah, well that that's actually in the mark Stein article today,
So you were told really good information there. Nico, Hey,
let me ask you, but you know, before we let
you go, how do you feel today as a Maverick
fan moving forward?
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Oh? I think it's the I think it's the first
step to you know, rebuilding, rebuilding what we had eighteen
months ago. And I think it's the second day besides
winning the draft lottery. I think it's the second day
since February first that you know, the Mavericks organization has.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
Had a lot of positivity around it.
Speaker 4 (49:14):
So I'm I'm really happy, and I think it's I
think it's the first and most important step towards the
bright feature for the Mavericks.
Speaker 6 (49:21):
One last thing, was it it all weird when you
told mister Dumont that your name was Nico.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
I introduced myself as Nicholas.
Speaker 6 (49:27):
Okay, good, good move. Yeah, well man, it's very impressive.
I like every part of this. I like the bird,
I like the giving him speak in your mind. I
like the dad work here circling back with you having
you apologize. I like the fact that you did it,
you went and apologize, and I like the way that
he received the apology. It sounds like it's just a
(49:47):
good story all around. So thank you for taking the
time to jump on the Ben and Skin show.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
Yeah, no problem, anytime.
Speaker 6 (49:53):
All right, There he goes Nico Dickison, the kid who
sat next to Patrick Dumont at the game last night.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
Incredible.
Speaker 6 (50:00):
Get I don't know any other radio show that had
the balls to book that kid on their show. Only
at Rock Station would do such a thing. Ben, Yeah,
I think that's a feel good story in every way.
I mean, I'm glad, I'm glad he did it. In
some ways, it was disrespectful and inappropriate, but it echoes
how we all feel here in Dallas Fort Worth. And
then at the same time, it's good to come back
and clean up a mistake it say sorry about that.
(50:22):
And I like that it was well received by Patrick Dumont.
And I like that your average eighteen year old feels
comfortably comfortable calling a fifty something year old billionaire Patrick, right.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
Yeah. I mean, it's just like the world is changing
all around us.
Speaker 6 (50:35):
I just think that's exceptional parenting. I would hope that
I would send my kiddo right back in there to
apologize if he did such a thing as well. Absolutely so,
really really well done. All right, Coming up next, where
do the Mavericks go from here? We got the weekly
week day update. Let's just take a look at where
the Mavericks are going to go from here.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
We'll do that next. It is the Veterans Day edition
of The Ben and Skin Show.
Speaker 6 (50:54):
Big thanks to all of our listeners and everyone out
there who supports ninety seven to one the eagle that
has served in our military and want to thank their
families as well for everything. Thank you so much for
your service. All Right, we got the big finish coming
up here. Momentarily, we're gonna end this show with a
lot of fun. But right now it's time for this.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
Are you excited?
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Featuring veteran news anchor Katie fun tweets all right, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (51:23):
This morning, the Dallas Mavericks announced that they have fired
Nico Harrison, their general manager. Talked about it a lot
throughout the show.
Speaker 7 (51:31):
Today.
Speaker 8 (51:32):
Patrick Dumont wrote a big open letter to MAVs fans
that get released.
Speaker 3 (51:37):
I'll quickly just get read you a couple of the
highlights from that.
Speaker 8 (51:41):
No one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with
the start of what we all believe would be a
promising season. You have high expectations for the Mavericks, and
I share them with you. Have made a decision to
part way as a general manager Nico Harrison. He also said,
I think this is an important line to put in there.
Our goal is to return to winning basketball to Dallas
and when championships, our family is committed to that mission
(52:02):
and to continuing to invest in Dallas and the Mavericks future.
Speaker 6 (52:07):
Yeah, because there's a lot of distill, there's still a
lot to talk about it. Well, they're just trying to
destroy the team and move them to Vegas, So I think,
you know, that's important to put out there. One of
the things I'm so interested in is the reports that
all right, they're going to lean on Jason Kidd and
who just got a contract extension. And I'm like, I
wonder who gave him that contract extension? In other words,
(52:30):
did Nico have a hand in that. Did they listen
to Nico and say or did that kid just go
and earn that because the Knicks wanted kids so bad
that Patrick was like, all right, we're going to give
you a contract extension. I think that's so interesting because
normally it would be the GM responsible for giving the
contract extension. But I don't know when they decided they
(52:50):
were going to stop listening to Nico Harrison, Like, when
did that happen?
Speaker 3 (52:54):
It's so interesting to me, it is that is an
interesting wrinkle.
Speaker 6 (52:57):
I just think, you know, ownership is crazy culpable in
all of this, and look, they were super naive, but
you know they bought the team for a real estate,
play for a casino, and they want to get gambling
legalized and all that. But they allowed this guy to
trade away the golden goose of the NBA, Like they
just allowed him to sabotage the whole. And I'm not
saying he meant to sabotage. He believed in it or whatever. Yeah,
(53:20):
but there was no checks or balances there. So I mean,
I don't have confidence that these guys are going to
get it right moving forward. I don't feel like, you know,
like with Cuban, I felt like, and you know, obviously
every every owner has good things and bad things, but
with Cuban, I kind of felt like it was one
of us season ticket holder, super passionate fan, very involved.
(53:41):
I don't think that's what this is. This is like
I'll be in town once a month to check to
see how things are going, and sometimes, like I think
Cowboys fans would love to have an ownership group like
that that just checked in every once in a while.
But I don't know what to grab onto to feel
good about. I don't, like, you know, the only thing
I feel good about is that Cooper Flags here in
the future could potentially be bright but I don't like
(54:03):
the way things are built right now. I'm we're trapped
by injuries and giant contracts, and you know, I don't
know that there's anybody over there I have confidence in
that's going to go make the right decisions and put
this thing on the right track.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
I mean, I hope they do. I really hope they do.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
But you know, when you trade a global icon who's
twenty five years old, five time all NBA and you
get this in return, it's like, this is the worst
trade that's ever happened, and we'll be feeling the effects
of it for a long ass time. I hope they
can get us out of this hole. You know, getting
rid of Nico's the first step. But it's really only
(54:40):
make up on a pig. It's only cosmetic because it's
a vibe things, a vibe thing. Yeah, but it's like,
I wouldn't be surprised if fire Nico chants are replaced
by sell the team.
Speaker 3 (54:50):
Chance doesn't happen.
Speaker 8 (54:51):
Faster if we if it is an owner that's here
all the time and his only focus or main focus
is this.
Speaker 6 (54:57):
Because here's here's the way both stein Man of characterize
this like he knows what's going on.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
The owner knows what's going on.
Speaker 6 (55:06):
Uh yeah, and he saw everything was like, well, I
made this decision with Nico. We're the ones that are
culpable for with this, so I'm going to stand beside him.
And then the Cooper flag thing happened. And so the
Cooper flag thing, I think made everyone believe, all right,
we dodged the hell we got so lucky, we're moving forward.
(55:26):
And so the plan was to move forward. Nico was
the guy who signed D'Angelo Russell. Now it's not a
big commitment because it's a mid level exception and they
had that to spend, and so it's not some big thing.
Speaker 4 (55:38):
You know.
Speaker 6 (55:39):
I was told that Jason Kidd wanted Malcolm Brogden, who
retired a few weeks ago. So it's like, those are
your options at point guard, right. It wasn't that they
decided not to have a point guard. There are no options, like,
there's not there's nobody out there and you're up against
the second apron. So they did what they could do.
Nico made that decision. But then the year's started the
(56:00):
way it started, and so what happened is everything that
everybody felt in March and April all came rushing back.
It's in the locker room, it's it's everywhere. And then
when they went to Memphis and they got their doors
blown by a team that was in just as much
disarray as them, and they went into the locker room
and they're like, why are we playing like this? It's
(56:22):
like it never went away, all the feelings, all that stuff,
it never went away. In fact, it's exacerbated right now
all over again. So we can't make any changes, but
we at least need to get out from underneath that feeling.
And so that's all that's happened. They're trying to get
out from underneath that feeling. But figuring out the direction
(56:43):
and all that that's not going to happen this year.
They just need to hope for health. They have good
players and see what they can do when they're healthy.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
But nothing.
Speaker 6 (56:51):
They're not going to make any seismic trade before the
trade deadline with interim gms.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
That's not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
Yeah, god man.
Speaker 6 (57:00):
There's just a step one though it is the first step.
It's you gotta start, you gotta you gotta start somewhere.
But this I don't even know what to compare it
to I don't know because if you if you look
at trading Luka Doncic, you know, the one of the
best players on earth ever, that one of the best
players who's ever played, when he's just about to get
(57:22):
into his prime. For what they got back, it's almost criminal.
Like you could imagine what you'd have to give to
go get trade for Luca right now, imagine what the
Lakers would accept. They wouldn't accept this offer. They wouldn't
accept it with Cooper Flag and other first round picks
like it. So it's just we're gonna be filling the
ripple effects of this for a long time. But at
(57:45):
least it's a step in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
All right.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
There you have it, Nico Harrison out with the Dallas
Mavericks coming up in the big finish, where a you're
gonna take his KT?
Speaker 8 (57:53):
Well, I think inflation is on top of everyone's mind,
So let's play the price is what Inflation edition?
Speaker 3 (57:59):
Next?
Speaker 6 (57:59):
The segment here is brought to you by Rollertown Beer Works.
You know, Ben and I we ran by Rollertown earlier
today before coming to the show, and I forgot how
good mule or wag you beef? Truck is. It's just
out there. I had a cheeseburger for lunch. We're open
for lunch, we're open for dinner. The tap room is
always popping. There's big shows, so many reasons to go
to that brewery right there in Frisco that you and
(58:21):
I are partners in. Yeah, and it's pretty cool seeing
all the different musical acts that are getting booked there,
and it's amazing. So there's this huge Hispanic rapper that's
coming to the Mexican Ot, that Mexican O two, it's
that Mexican Ot. Yeah, right, that Mexican Ot. And I
just know when the artwork for this started going out,
(58:43):
people are like, well, you got that Mexicanot. He's a
huge deal. He's got one hundred and seventy thousand Spotify
listeners in Dallas alone.
Speaker 3 (58:51):
Wow, that listened daily.
Speaker 6 (58:53):
And so look, I know there's a lot of people
in Dallas Fort Worth that are excited about that Mexican
Ot coming to town to do a show.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Just know that it is next Thursday.
Speaker 6 (59:02):
Tickets are available now, and there are tickets available, so
hurry up and get you tickets while you can. Yeah,
go to Rollertown Beerworks, Dot com for tickets for everything,
follow us on the show Socials.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
It's a good thing. But right now it's time for this. Yeah,
it's the price is what the price is, what the
prices what take pulled it out of there?
Speaker 8 (59:23):
Boot, it's the price is what the price is, What
the price is, what pulled it out there?
Speaker 3 (59:31):
But it's the prices, what the pricess what.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
Bitch?
Speaker 3 (59:44):
All right?
Speaker 8 (59:45):
So inflation is definitely happening, but pretty good for different
types of products. I have thirty six clues here and
what you guys will do a higher lower game around
the board to find out what percentage up or down
because some there's deflation on a couple of these. So
one through thirty six, U, Ben, we'll start with you.
(01:00:07):
Pick a number one through thirty six, give me Emmitt Smith.
All right, we will talk about pork, Ben, pork, what
percent is it up in inflation? Forty percent lower Skin,
fifteen percent lower Christina, eight percent lower, Ben, four percent
(01:00:30):
lower skin. I think it's flat higher Christina one percent higher,
Ben two percent lower skin one and a half percent
higher Christina one point lower, Man one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Point six percent.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
I know, I know it's the pork. I knew it
let's go. That's pretty good. Okay, all right, so Ben,
you get pork, I would it take them in a
meat bracket anyway.
Speaker 8 (01:01:01):
The game now is these are survival kits and at
the end, whoever has the best stuff the other two
have to die.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
That's great. I think that's fair.
Speaker 8 (01:01:08):
Skin one through twenty two, but number one through twenty
two I went through a thirty six.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Okay, I'll take thirty five. All right. We're playing here
for women's apparel.
Speaker 8 (01:01:20):
This is my wheelhouse, and women's apparel is deflating finally
because boob jobs are going down as well, not getting
as many of those.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
We talked about that a couple weeks ago, and that's
why we have deflation.
Speaker 8 (01:01:32):
Skin down three percent okay higher, which is closer to zero, Christina,
so two percent CORRECTSA apparel of course, because she's a chick. Accurate.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
You get to wear clothes. Thanks.
Speaker 8 (01:01:51):
Meanwhile, Ben has pork, and Skin has nothing to his name. Christina.
Let's go number nine, number nine, number nine. Guys, we
were playing for tools and home hardware. This is a
big one. How much is it inflating?
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
Christina? Eight percent? Lower?
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
Is it me?
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Or five lower? Three higher? Four higher?
Speaker 4 (01:02:22):
Four?
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Point five lower, four point twenty five higher over point three.
Speaker 8 (01:02:29):
Correct, Christine has women's apparel, and she has tools and
home hardware.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Okay, look out getting there and put some clothes on
and fixed stuff. She's got the hammer, uh, Ben one
thirty six.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
Uh, give me the Scott laid law m thirty thirty five.
I'm struggling with that one thirty five thirty five. Oh right,
give me the herschel Walker thirty four.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Yep, all right.
Speaker 8 (01:02:56):
We're playing for eggs. Eggs are defling, guys. The price
of eggs have gone down over the last year because
they went up so high.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Ben, what percent?
Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:03:08):
Okay, so the eggs have gotten more affordable or they've
gone they've gotten more expensive, Okay over the last year. Okay,
so eggs are have become more affordable by a percentage
of one point five to seven five percent.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
That'd be lower, which is closer to zero? Skin? Oh,
closer to zero?
Speaker 8 (01:03:29):
Okay, point five higher, point seven, higher, point eight higher,
point nine higher, one point two higher.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
One point four lower one point three. Skin is on
the board. Skin gets to eat eggs. I'm gonna throw
eggs at Christina's tools, So beIN as pork.
Speaker 8 (01:03:53):
Skin as eggs, Christinas women's apparel and tools and home hardware.
Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
Someone should come over and have breakfast with me and Ben.
Speaker 8 (01:04:01):
All right, Skin, you're up. I'll take number four, Number four, Okay,
I got it. Today we were playing for tobacco products.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Hell yeah, just what skin needs? Yeah, how much is
that inflated? Five percent higher? Wow?
Speaker 8 (01:04:21):
Seven percent lower, six percent higher, six point five percent higher,
six point seven percent higher, six point eight percent higher,
six point nine percent. That's right, Skin got smokes and eggs,
cigarettes and eggs for skin over to Christina.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
That's like a John Belushi breakfast. Yeah, let's go number ten. Okay.
Speaker 8 (01:04:48):
We're playing for fresh vegetables. How much they've inflated they
have inflated higher four percent lower, three percent lower, two
point five higher, two point seven higher, two point eight Smokes,
(01:05:13):
eggs and vegetables. Make a nice lomb let out of that, though. Yeah,
and it used the cilantro like or the tobacco like.
It was cilantro. Okay, Ben, all right, uh give me
the Steve burline.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
All right. We're playing for alcoholic beverages. How much have
they inflated for alcohol? Okay?
Speaker 8 (01:05:35):
What kind of alcohol? It just says alcoholic beverages up
four percent. It's probably an average of all of them.
Maybe lower two percent lower one lower, okay, zero point
seven percent lower, zero.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
Point four percent lower point three. That's correct. Christina is
getting drunk. Yes, you're gonna have some tools and get drunk.
Women's a pair of tools and alcoholic beverages.
Speaker 7 (01:06:02):
All I need.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
I'll trade you half my tobacco for half your alcohol.
Van has poor think about it. That's all I need. Skin,
skins that eggs, smokes, vegetables. Skin. I'll take number seven.
All right, we're playing for beef. Oh this is great, dude. Beef.
(01:06:25):
Beef is up eight percent higher, Oh, ten percent higher.
I need that beef.
Speaker 8 (01:06:33):
Christina doesn't have any food yet. She's got just like
a bunch of drills.
Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
Get drunk.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
Alcohol.
Speaker 8 (01:06:38):
Alcohol's good sustenance. Fifteen percent lower. God, I won't be
so bad. Twelve percent higher, thirteen percent higher, fourteen percent higher,
fourteen and a half percent.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Higher, fourteen point eight percent lower.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
Either mirror you get beef, dude, fourteen point six percent higher, No,
fourteen point seven percent.
Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
That's Craig. I got bee, he got the beef.
Speaker 8 (01:07:05):
I got beef, beef, eggs vegetables, ud, steak, eggs and.
Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Breakfast and cigarettes every morning. Come on to bag. You're
literally everyone's grandpa.
Speaker 8 (01:07:16):
Yeah, you had a mighty weak and squeeze in one
morning to one more hurry twenty four twenty four? All right,
did you know that pets are also facing inflation? Yeah,
pets are more expensive and their products and services as well.
So the pet food that you would give it. So
if you want a dog, how much has that inflated?
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
Christina?
Speaker 8 (01:07:40):
Five percent lower, three percent higher, four percent lower, three
point five.
Speaker 3 (01:07:46):
There you go. Christina gets petty dogs.
Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
All right.
Speaker 8 (01:07:49):
So who survives the end of the world. Ben has pork,
which I'll be happy. The skin has eggs, smokes, vegetables,
and beef. Christina has women's apparel, tools and home hardware, alcohol,
all the pets she wants an alcohol.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
I can make some trades for food. I think I'm
gonna live for a long time.
Speaker 8 (01:08:09):
I think skinned smokes are gonna get cancel out his vegetables.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:08:12):
I think we all came out winners, which reminds me
of the time KT looked at the apocalyptic dog that
Christina had dead in the eye and it said, do
you guys.
