Speaker 1 (00:00):
Been in Skin Show ninety one point one. The Eagle
coming up in about fifteen minutes, we'll do a little
Christina's Cookie jar. Are you gonna get us all caught
up on the rock news.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Of the holidays? You guys miss so much?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Okay, Christina's gonna get us all caught up here in
fifteen minutes. But before that, it's time for this reach
down and grab a couple of plump tomatoes.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It's time for sport to catch up.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Catchup Sports sports catchups.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
With Steve Muppett.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
So we don't do this much on this show, but
I did want to jump in here because there's so
many local ties going on with college football. In fact,
tomorrow night, I think there's gonna be a lot of
frustrated college football programs because they're gonna be, not officially
but kind of, they're gonna learn that they're not gonna
make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Texas is being one of them. Texas is really up
in the air.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Texas and Texas A and M the annual tradition, you know,
it's back and night, and Texas gets a big win
over Texas A and M, who had not lost yet.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Texas has three top ten wins, they also have three losses.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Now their head coach goes, it's a disservice to the
sport if you don't let us in the playoffs. We
chose to play Ohio State in Week one, which he's
got a good point, but you also chose to lose
to three and nine Florida. Yeah, so you just kind
of can't have that on your ledger. Now, for me,
this is all highly interesting and maybe for Christina too,
because we went to unt can You went to U
(01:28):
and T, but you went to Texas first.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Your heartlines.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah, North Texas is they won Saturday. They demolished Temple. Yeah,
they destroyed them. Actually watched that game. Yeah, they qualify
for the American Athletic Conference Championship game, which doesn't mean
a lot, but I'll tell you what the American Athletic
Conference is. All of the schools and the bigger conferences
are taking their coaches. So North Texas coach Eric Morris
(01:53):
is now going to be the head coach at Oklahoma State.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
He's a man, he's forty, but he's finishing out his
run here at North Texas.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Tulane, who they play on Friday night, Winter will be
in the College Football playoff Tulane and they play Friday night.
John Sumrall is their coach. He took the Florida job.
Is see pat he's not spelled different too. It's very weird.
I did think that night looked into it.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
He's not. He is going to be the Florida head coach.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Same thing though, because they're in the American Athletic Comfers,
so like staying coach. See if you can finish out
your year, it'll be a good time there. Yeah, it's
we're not going to be back here. A couple of
other schools in that conference too, have gotten their coach
has gone and taken a job in the SEC or
the Big twelve. So it's kind of like become these
American Athletics Conference schools are like stepping stones kind of.
(02:42):
So if North Texas wins Friday Night in Tulane, gotta
go to tu Lane. If they win Friday night there
in the college fotball play Iff, I cano believe I'm
saying that.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
How do you feel telling you?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
In my five football seasons there at North Texas, I
think they won like five games?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Dane, what is what is the who's the favorite of
that game? North Texas is favored by three.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Now knowing that the coach is going the quarterback who's
a freshman, the running back, they might go with them
to Oklahoma State.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
So it's all in now and that is kind of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Even though I think North Texas is probably gonna win
it all this year. I mean, if you look at
the other teams, dude, I think they're probably gonna win
it all.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Doug, I couldn't tell if you were serious when you
said it or you're just but and you still care?
Are you being facetious or why would you ask me
that question? Are you being a piece of FECs?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Uh? Texas Tech is in the top five. SMU had
a chance. If SMU would have won on Saturday night
in California, they would be in the ACC Championship game
instead of a five lost duke team.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Okay, they would be the a C C Championship with
a chance to get in.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
That would have un t SMU in Texas, Tech in Texas,
A and m IS in Texas is like seriously on
the boundary, like no one really knows.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Who do you think they're in?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I think they're gonna get in, but and I but
I think it's who gets catchy? Who who are there?
Who's their main comp Like, who's it gonna come down
to them?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
And who If b YU beats Texas Tech, that's really bad?
When is that game?
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Well, this is so this weekend's conference championship games and
it's kind of not needed anymore. Yeah, there are some
schools who don't need to play a conference championship game,
Texas Tech being one of them.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
They really benefit them.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Maybe they can get a bye. So there's a whole
story going on now. And there's a guy that we
don't talk about much on this show, if ever, but
it's interesting for this reason. His name is Lane Kiffin.
His dad used to be the defensive coordinator for the
Cowboys Monte kiffon Rest in Peace. Lane Kiffin is known
to be a bit of a hoe. He will sleep
around and he'll go to this school, and he'll go
(04:43):
to this school, and he'll use this leverage here to
go to this school.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
And he had some public drinking stuff of course, yeah,
which a lot of hoes get drunk.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And so he's the head coach at Ole Miss. Ole
miss is in the college football playoff, well they are
for now. They're in the college football playoff. They're good
after like, there's number seven ring team. They don't have
to play next week.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
They are in.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
But he has taken the job at LSU and LSU's administration.
After a day of like waiting on him to give
his three or four days waiting him to give his decision,
he holds a team only meeting. Then he postpones it
a few hours later. All right, Finally he puts out
a pressure release saying that against the player's wishes and
(05:23):
his wishes, he's been asked to leave because he's taken
the LSU job and he can't stay and finish out
this run this year. And any coach who wants to
go with him was told to get on the plane. Wow,
So he's taken the LSU job. LSU is not in
the playoffs. Ole Miss is in the playoffs now without
their coach, And because the athletic director had to go.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
We can't let you stay.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
You're gonna just keep recruiting the same guys that you
have round and take them to LSU next year.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
So no, you can't stay.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
But and now everyone on ESPN is kind of being
a bitch, Like there's so many like Kirk Curb Street
is not hot take guy. Say what you want about him.
He's not hot take guy. He's not general clicks guy
unless he's putting his dog on screen, and he is
like I think they should let him stay and I'm like, no, Look,
when you quit your job, you don't get to just
stay there like this is not how it worked, especially
(06:12):
in radio.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Well, but who's gonna coach.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Them now they've got their defensive coordinator. Okay, Now, players
did take cell phones in and record the meeting, and
that audio is out there. I didn't think it'd be
good for this format, but it's very interesting to me.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Well, I think the bottom line is k Go North Texas, Texas.
We'll be covering that story extensively and exclusively. No other
station's covering it here on ninety seven to one The
Eagle Christina, what's next in the cookie jar?
Speaker 3 (06:40):
You guys missed so much in the world of rock
last week, including Flea playing trumpets, I'm gonna catch you up.
