“Could Led Zeppelin have kept going if they’d just found another drummer?” That’s the provocative question at the heart of today’s episode of The Ben and Skin Show, and the debate gets loud, funny, and surprisingly deep. Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray crack open Krystina’s Cookie Jar for a nostalgic look back at the day Led Zeppelin called it quits—and what that decision says about the fragile chemistry of legendary bands.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ah.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Yes, it is the world famous Ben and Skin show.
Thanks for rolling with us today on a Thursday, Cowboys
game day, Cowboys Alliance tonight in Detroit. That's exciting stuff.
Good luck to them pokes. We got some around the
sports coming up at four. We'll get back into cussing
the Cowboys and talk more specifically about tonight's matchup at
five o'clock. But right now it's time for this.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Let's time to pop the top your heads. It's grab
for Christina's kooky jar.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
It was on this day, oh forty five years ago.
Here's a press release December fourth, nineteen eighty bled Zeppelins
no more. We wish it to be known that the
loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we
have for his family, together with the deep sense of
undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led

(01:11):
us to decide that we could not continue as we
were white.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
So who died? John Bonham?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Oh, joh John Bonham died September I believe of nineteen eighty.
Of a yeah, he drank himself to way too much drinking,
and they finally decided in December of that year that
they would just you know.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
They can't go on, not the same you can't go on?

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Is the go ahead?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Go where you're gonna go. I don't want to.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Degram well after this, I was just gonna say, they've
only played five times since then, so it's just a
little fun Zeppelin fact, So go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Well, is this where you could have gone on if
you all still got along and got a drummer, just
got another drummer? Or is it Robert Plant and Jimmy
Page were not really speaking to each other.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Uh, you know, that's a good question that I don't
know the answer.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
When did the black magic thing take over the Oh
that's that was there already, And you know what, I
think they probably already were kind of on the fritz
by that point.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
But I do fully respect this decision.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
John Bondam is one of the most amazing drummers of
all time, and if you lose him, it's like you
can't really replace that.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Now.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
I do disagree with them not continuing once his son
got older and proved that he was just as good
as his dad. He's an incredible drummer as well, and
then they still continue like, just did not get back together.
One sad note about this. They were about to go
on a US tour the following year.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
It's like another band that is the exact same quality, right,
the same caliber that everybody universally believes is exactly the
same Van Halen and van Halen they had. They went
with Sammy Hagar, even though they lost David lee Roth.
They went with Sammy Hagar.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
So you what happened to davidly Roth he died?

Speaker 2 (03:00):
No, he just started doing those classics. But no, that's
is that an insult to led Zeppelin to say van Halen?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
No, it's not at all, No, not at all. What
are the other bands that are that caliber?

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I mean, it's just like you have, especially like a
lead singer, someone iconic like that, a lead guitarist who
was Guns and Roses without slash. It's not guns and Roses, okay,
got So if they would have continued on and gotten
a different drummer, yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
It just would He was too important to their DNA.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And what that is?

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Absolutely? Yeah, how it's so hard for bands to exist?
I was listening to podcast. It's Hayley Williams is the
lead singer of Paramour and God they've gotten their messy
but she's doing a podcast with Amy Poehler. Yeah, and
talking about every time she talked about Paramour in this podcast,
you can tell she's kind of like sad. And when

(03:51):
she was talking about her solo career and her new album,
she would have a little peppiner step and she said, basically,
I kind of got tired of being like the ring
leader and now I feel like like speaking for myself
rather than speaking for a band, especially when she dated
a couple of members of the band too and break
up there so tough.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
I like your you said they were the Fleetwood Mac.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
And they're awesome. I love them, and her soul love
was great. But that's that. I think it's really hard
for bands to exist. I mean, you're telling how they
I don't know how they make it.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
It's it's like you're married to these guys, like you
all have to get along, especially on tour. I cannot
imagine going on tour constantly being away from your family
and friends and you're, you know, stuck on a tour
of us night to night with these guys. Eventually, you're
not gonna get along. My good friend, our good friend,
Kent Garrison. He's from the One Star Cowboys podcast by
the way. We shot a new episode at Haymaker Network.

(04:47):
Good check it out, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
But I was talking to him up at the Haymaker
studios because he was he was in Forever the Sickest Kids.
I mean. They played the Detroit Lions super Bowl. I mean,
I mean the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving halftime show.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
They played with simple plan.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, played with simple plan huge, And I was talking
to him about like, how like when I grew up,
it's like, oh, what do you to be? I was like,
I just think I always thought would be cool, like
be a rock star, being a band, you know, all
that stuff. He goes it all sounds good until you're
like touring, and then he's explaining the about how his
standards for living are very low because he's lived in
a van with five or six other guys and drove

(05:20):
around the nation. So it was like it's like luxury
is not that big of a deal to him because
he's like, I've done it in a van. I whatever,
I'll just eat, I'll eat whatever. He's fine with that.
But Sam lived and he's like it sounds great until
you do it and you realize it's not that awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
See, I don't So I want to go back to
the van Halen led Zeppelin thing because because I think
that is kind of a shot at led Zeppelin, because
they're both great bands, but van Halen is kind of
they do bits.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
I think of led Zeppelin as.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Being very serious and very good, and obviously van Halen
was very good. They had Eddie, but dude, David Lee
Roth and itself is a walking bit.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
And Sammy Hagar had a huge perm. He's a walking bit.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
They did a song about just jumping. They did a
song about then with not I can't drive fifty five Zeppelins.
Scarious business, right, you know that's why I That's why
I made that silly computer.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
But you know they did black Dog. Ye needed song
about the coolant.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
I mean there's yeah, they did need coolant, That's right,
they did. They did do that. They sold out and
did that coolant commercial.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
All right, there you have it. There's Christina's cookie jar
coming up next. Let's go around the sports. We get
you ready for Cowboys Lions. We even talked a little
maps heat. That's next right here on the Eagle

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
