Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to today's edition of the Clay Travis and Buck
Sexton Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Our two Clay and Buck kicks off now. It is
the greatest show in America, the greatest show on Earth,
I think, the Trump Show, and it is continuing right
now in the Oval Office. We've been talking a lot
this week, Glen and I have been breaking down for
you as much of what Elon is doing as possible
with Doge. And it's not just Elon. He's got these
(00:28):
twenty somethings. Some of them are even younger than that.
The media has decided that instead of celebrating these clearly
very gifted young people, they're going to attack them. They're
too young for this. Well, I don't think we're going
to take age criticism from the people that pretended Joe
Biden didn't have sinility, dementia and clear cognitive decline. I
(00:53):
don't think we have to listen to them. I think
they can all be quiet and go in the corner
before Uncle Elon gets annoyed at them. So with that
in mind, Trump speaking about what Elon is doing here,
This was just a few moments ago in the Oval Office.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
This is twenty three. Hit it, mister President, if.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
You have a reaction to the new Time magazine cover
that has Elon Musk sitting behind your resolute desk, his.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Time magazine still in business, I didn't even know that
you discuss.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Elon is doing a great job.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
He's finding tremendous fraud and corruption and waste. You see
it with the USAID, but you're going to see it
even more so with other agencies and other parts of government.
He's got a staff that's fantastic. He's wanted to be
able to do this for a long time. And if
everybody else knew it was existent, but I think never
(01:47):
so much.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
When you look at USAID.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Play Just wait until they really dig into Center for
Medicaid and Medicare, they get into cms hss HHS rather,
there's gonna be mind blowing in terms of the number
and also I think the scale of the fraud. But
you can also tell here right away the journals they're running,
(02:12):
they keep running this playbook. They really want to try
to turn Trump on Elon and get the egos to clash.
I don't think they understand. Elon's having a great time
and he just wants to help, and Trump realizes like
his guy is doing. It's like his guy in the
back room doing all the accounting for him and getting
great results like he loves it.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Also, I think they're looking for conflict, and they can't
really find conflict in the Trump administration.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
You remember, in the early days, Buck, there was always
going to each other very easily.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, there was always a New York Times story about
this advisor fighting with that advisor, and who was going
to be able to win the Trump's ear and who
was up and who was down.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
None of those stories.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
I haven't seen a single story like that in the
first month of the Trump administration so far. And this
also ties in with what we've been talking about a
great deal, Buck, which is there is no antagonist to
Trump that is anywhere near the same stature as him
on the national stage. There is no Democrat that they
(03:18):
can say, well, did you see Chuck Schumer said, or
you know, even back in the day, they used to
say Nancy Pelosi said, or there was some sort of
titan on the Democrat side that would push back against Trump.
Now they're trying to find the titan inside of Trump's
own administration and create this conflict between Trump and Elon
(03:38):
over who's the real president. Think about how first of all,
how desperate that is, because they're simultaneously arguing two things,
buck that Trump is an authoritarian dictator the likes of
which the country has never seen, that we have to
be protected from. And they're also simultaneously arguing that Trump
is not even actually the president.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
So which one is it?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Is Trump like this danger dictator who could take over
the country or is he just a total empty suit
and Elon Musk is actually the president? They're actually narratives
are colliding head on.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Well, and this is how you know that they the
Democrats are scrambling. There's not even a there's not even
a talking point that they can all parrot because they're
being batted away so quickly. And I think you know
you tweeted this out. I think this is very app
If you're going to be a dictator, you don't make
government a lot smaller and you don't make it more transparent. Okay,
(04:34):
that's that's part one. That's the opposite of dictator. Yes,
so credit credit to you on that. Totally true. And also,
if Trump is going to be a dictator, why would
he give somebody who is uncontrollable essentially in terms of
you can't, and I mean that in a good way.
You know, remember what he said when they tried to
and they did try to bring him to heal with
(04:56):
X and he said, you're going to try to bribe
me with money. And then he looked at like the
heads of Disney and everywhere, and he said, go something.
You know, we all remember Elon's the richest man in
the world. You're not gonna You're not gonna be able
to twist this guy's arm and make him violate his
principles and make him a stooge. No dictator would do that.
Trump has got an all star team and he's letting
(05:17):
the all stars play their positions with that in mind.
What is the end goal of this? He just said this.
This is twenty four Clay. He's talking about getting us
close to a balanced budget. Play that one.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
The fraud.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
The whole thing is a fraud, very little, very little
being put to good use. Every single line that I
look at in terms of events and transactions is either
corrupt or ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
And we're gonna be doing that throughout government.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
And I think we're gonna be very close to balancing
budgets for the first time in many years. I think
we're going to be very close to uh in addition
to money's coming in from terroriffs, et cetera, et cetera.
But no, he's doing a very good job.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I'm very happy with it.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
Will you put the musk up on the podium for
us to usk in some.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Quoture or he'll he is he's not you.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
That, by the way, will be I mean, Trump press
conferences are great. Elon press conference is also going to
be great.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I just want to remind people how much things have changed.
Elon voted for Biden. I know that it can be
head spinning to think where we are. They are trying
to argue to you that Trump and Elon are a unique,
unprecedented threat to American life. And four years ago, Elon
(06:35):
voted for Joe Biden against Donald Trump. Until this year,
Elon had never voted for Trump. Now this is funny,
Elon tweeted, I'm pulling this up, buck because I saw it.
I saw it circulating a little bit earlier.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Here.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Elon tweeted out, I love Donald Trump as much as
a straight man can love another man, which is a
very which is a very funny.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
And he's got a picture of like one of those
on both sides.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
If you guys haven't seen it yet, make America great again,
hats But I don't believe that most people are aware
of how truly radical and transformative Trump two point zero
is compared to Trump one point oh, not only based
on what I think is the best version of Trump,
but his allies Buck RFK Junior, the most prominent Kennedy
(07:25):
sky On on the on in America. You've got Tulsea Gabbard,
You've got Elon Musk. I mean, these are people who
were steadfast anti Trump people in sixteen and twenty that
now have come aboard the Trump train. And to his credit,
Trump may have the lowest grudge ratio of any American
(07:46):
politician of all time. You can have said the worst
things about Trump, and he will forgive and forget if
he believes you're gonna get on the Trump train and
help to advocate for his policies.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
He gave chants called him hitler just eight years ago,
and now he's a heartbeat away from the presidency. I
just I don't know that we've ever Usually you know this,
politicians marinate and grudges. They are perpetually offended by what
people said or didn't say. Their staffers are constantly obsessed
with what articles are written and what the headlines.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Are and all these things.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
And meanwhile you've got Trump who just swears it all off.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
And he's got Elon who.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Voted for Biden four years ago, now working as hard
as anyone can work to try to balance the federal budget.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
And you look at on the Republican side, who are
the prominent Republicans that have gone full democrat. I'm not
saying there aren't any, and there's certainly some in the media,
and that's happened. And you know, Liz Cheney, though, would
say that she's not a Democrat, she's just trying to
save the country from Donald Trump. There has not been
(08:55):
a There have not been high level respected members of
the Republican Party, Okay, I can put it that way
who have switched over. So who's making converts I think
is a really interesting part of this. I think it's
huge who who is converting people to their side, because
I think that tells you a lot about who are
the radicals and who are the reasonables in all of this.
(09:17):
And there is nobody that we have lost to the
Democrats that I'm like, oh my gosh, that guy or
that gal. I can't believe it, but Silicon Valley former
presidential candidates, you know, in the case of Tulsea Gabbard
for the Democrats, a Kennedy. I mean, these are on
(09:37):
the on the Democrat chess board. These are some serious pieces.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
And by the way, Elon Musk, if Joe Biden had
any decent leadership, Elon Musk, if he had come in
with Joe Biden, pretend that Elon had decided to get
super involved in politics four years earlier, would Republicans have
been furious if Elon had started going through the fed
federal budget, even if you were doing it on behalf
(10:02):
of a Democrat, and you can argue it never happened.
But just follow through and suddenly he's finding hundreds of
billions of dollars in savings. It's why I think it's
so important to realize what is being done is not
particularly partisan. Up until a few years ago, the idea
that the federal government was ripe with fraud and abuse
(10:23):
and that there was lots of misspent money would have
been a pretty bipartisan perspective to adopt.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Securing the border and deporting illegals. Yes, was at least
officially speaking, the bipartisan goal of the United States Congress
and of both political parties until about.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
You know, the Obama administration.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
It started to change.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Really Obama term two that I know, there are a
lot of deportations in term one. A lot of those
are people turned away at the border. We could get
into these numbers in another time. But it was when
they it was a lot of these NGOs that are
getting government funding, I might add, it was when they
realized they could just scam the asylum system and kick
everything wide open, and then did that for four years
of Biden that things went completely out of control. I've
(11:11):
mentioned this before. It's amazing you go back New York
Times editorial page. Not an editorial columnist, the page back
in two thousand would write articles about how illegals were
suppressing the wages of particularly black and Latino Americans in
this country. That was the New York Times in the
year two thousand and now it's oh my gosh, you know,
(11:31):
we're a nation of immigrants, and the more legals the better,
and we need to keep all the MS thirteen gangsters
here too. Everyone they have lost their minds and this
is why they cannot get their bearings because you know
they they went nutso and you're seeing it, I mean
the fact that Clay they're trying. So they're defending the
you know, the trans puppet shows in Mongolia, and also
(11:55):
they're defending you know, the trans athlete, you know the
trans athlete.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Yeah, and now.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
They're gonna be saying what that we should be paying
hundreds of billions of dollars to people through medicare that
don't deserve to get any because they're not doing the procedures.
And these are fake clinics that are just you know,
people are scamming the system and no one gets caught.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
The FBI was too busy, by.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
The way, going after jan six people apparently to shut
this down. FBI is man, I cannot wait until cash
gets in there. Cash, it's gonna be money.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yeah, it's true. No, No, I mean I think.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Again, we've never seen anything like the speed at which
the government is moving right now. And I do believe
that Trump has broken the opposition. We've got some more
audio we can play for you, because they don't.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Have the ability.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
You know, they do a good job buck of all
reiterating whatever talking points they're sent, whatever comes in, they
go out and they go on CNN and they go
on MSNBC, and they just regurgitate it publicly. Trump is
moving so fast that the talking points can't keep up
with him. And the fact that there hasn't been a
Democrat rise up who's capable of actually speaking at Trump's
(13:12):
speed and reacting at Trump speed is a sign of
how incredibly broken the Democrat party is. But if this
keeps up, and again we have said this pace is
you know, you're hitting twenty home runs out of the
gate in April. You are birdying the first three holes
and standing over an eagle putt on the fourth hole,
(13:33):
something I've never experienced or never will experience. But maybe
some of you out there have had that fast of
a start in your golf game. If he keeps this up,
the way that Democrats are behaving, Buck, they are imploding
on a level that I don't remember any party ever employed.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I've never seen this before, never seen this before ever.
I mean people maybe say two thousand and eight with
the financial collapse, but that was pretty sure live because
Obama came in with some pretty radical ideas and he
remember the tea party formed in twenty ten and.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
A while that was a majority in two thousand and eight,
two right and much of much of his government.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
So I'm saying that the snapback was was pretty quick.
Actually after that, it did not take long before Republicans
found their footing and were, uh, you know, we're you know,
it did very well in that mid term election. I mean,
I know it's very early. I know it's the first month,
and I've been saying all along Democrats are going to
They're going to recover at some point, but.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
It may take a while. You know, this is I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
And I think that I think they're going to have
to blow up the existing framework of the party. And
this is why I think a total outsider may end
up being their nominee in twenty twenty eight, because I
don't think identity politics, which is the foundational value of
the Democrat Party right now, I don't think it can
work in the years ahead.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
I think they have I.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Also think played without total without total online information dominance,
there they can't win these arguments. I think that's a
huge part, which is why I thought the purchase of
X was so essential, really kind of breaking the stranglehold
that they have if you're a self employed individual somebody
who works on your own schedule as a truck driver
or a tradesman or an uber driver, for instance, there's

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Appreciate ninety nine point five our affiliate down here WRN
for hosting me here on Thursday and Friday. Thomas out
in San Diego wants to weigh in on how the
media is treating all the young guys that Elon's putting
to work on the budget.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
What you got for Thomas, hey, real quick?
Speaker 8 (16:44):
Thanks? Yeah. Ironically, just to highlight the media's road to irrelevance,
it wasn't too long ago they had us all celebrating
and honoring a sixteen year old named Greta.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Nsburg Sundberg. That is an excellent and excellent point, by
the way.
Speaker 8 (17:05):
Yeah, that nuts so uh now now they turn uh
and they expected the whole world to fall in line
with her.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
They I think they honored her on a.
Speaker 8 (17:16):
In magazines, on covers everything. I'm sure she was Person
of the Year somewhere, so.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Oh yeah, oh she absolutely By the way, brilliant, I
just say brilliant, call brilliant, point Clay. Not only did
they so high five to use her. Not only did
they trot out Greta Thunberg to talk about how the
whole world should run their economy because of climate change.
If you disagreed with her or said anything, it was
why are you beating up on a child's right?
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Why are you going after a child? You're a child abuser?
Speaker 1 (17:44):
I mean it was.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
It was disgusting.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
There's such dishonest clowns. Honestly, no doubt. I want to
save you a bunch of money.
Speaker 3 (17:52):

Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Talked to him about everything going on in.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
His state, a little football game that is occurring in
New Orleans on this Sunday, Which are.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
You prepared for your big pick next hour? To let
everybody know what they should be aware of. Maybe your
voice Sequan is going to be the pick, Like have
you decided? Have you done your resear Likely it's very likely,
as because at this point, let's be honest, I'm one
hundred percent for my picks.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
I'm one for one, so it's you know, it's probably
a good idea to listen to the pick that I have.
Clay's going to do the other four or whatever, So
we'll see how that goes. But I got one in mind,
and we will. We'll give you those picks and I
will be watching.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
The Super Bowl on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
We're going to do the traditional with the wings and
some of that stuff. So excited, and I'm gonna have
to look, what was that article that somebody put out
about how to sound like you?
Speaker 3 (19:49):
One of our guys, one of our guys Bobby Barak,
who does good work for us at out kick, wrote
an article for everybody out there who may be going
to Super Bowl parties but is not p particularly plugged
in with what is going to be going on a
few different sentences that you can just kind of throw
into the conversation and everybody will be like, Oh yeah,
(20:10):
this guy or this gal, they know what they're talking about.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
I mean, clearly, the Eagles are underdogs. I know this
just because I do know who's won the Super Bowl
in recent years. So how many points are they underdogs
play at this point?
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Recently?
Speaker 3 (20:22):
One and a half I'll pull up the exact very close.
Oh yeah, it's close to it. It's close to a
fifty to fifty style game. The Chiefs were around a
one and a half point. Let's see, the line has
not moved very much. Chiefs are still a one and
a half point favorite.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
I just I mean, if it's a one and a
half point if it's one and a half point spread,
you just got to think that the one only Sakwan.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Is going to come through.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
I'm based on every from his career erectly, but you're
his biggest fan on the play you ever wear whatever?
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yeah, but he's fantastic, That's what I'm telling It's going
to be amazing. He's going to run that football and
score many of the points. And I'm excited. I'm excited
for that.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
What do you are?
Speaker 5 (20:59):
You?
Speaker 1 (21:00):
You?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
You you don't really do Like I'm having a bunch
of friends over, you know, Carrie and I because we figure,
you know, before the baby comes, you might as well
have sort of adult you know, yes, you know, adult.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Time with everybody. Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
And also if anyone has a really good you're a dad,
you're gonna have your first baby book recommendation.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Send that endo the show where you could send us
in a VIP. I don't a book for you to
read to get ready for how to be a dad? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:25):
I think I'm good on the like once the kid
can talk and you know that dad part, I'm very confident,
and but.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
The like, I don't know how to swaddle.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
You know, I don't know how to how to make
the milk the right temp or you know the you
know what I mean, like not that I make the milk.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
You know what I mean, like I don't know how.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
To do you you logs.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
You probably are never going to be able to do
things like swaddle to your wife's specifications. I think that
it's likely that she's gonna be that she's going to
be much of You should see.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
What happens when I try to load the dishwasher.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yeah, of course I thought I was fine at loading
the dishwasher all these years.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Apparently not. Apparently not.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
And I never know is it worse to try to
load the dishwasher improperly or to just be like, fine,
I'm not going to you're you're in a tough spots
as husband. I will tell you this.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
I will just I'm gonna probably get myself in trouble here.
I've been married twenty almost going on twenty one years now.
I don't ever think our house has actually been messy.
And my wife is gonna say that's because she does
an incredible job of cleaning. But I think that male
female standards for filth and garbage and like to your point,
(22:37):
like how to load dishwashers, it's just two different universes.
So I like a lot of the things that are
considered to be a mess in my I don't think
it's just me. I think that most men listening to
me right now do not see messes in the same
way that women see messes. And I don't know, like
(22:58):
I've even thought about this on like a larger biological scale.
Why there has to be a massive benefit honestly for
human survival to women in general being much more focused
on cleanliness than men are, right, like that we benefit
as men and live longer than we otherwise would if
(23:19):
basically the wallowing in the filth that we would create otherwise.
But I think a huge part of it is like
the frat guys living in the frat house. Don't think
that the frat house is anywhere near as disgusting as
the girls living in the sorority houses who walk in
and frankly, I just think it's totally biological.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Well, I also think that there is and maybe this,
you know, I don't know if this is going to
sound sexist or anything, but I don't really.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Probably is if your prelude is I don't know if
this is going to sound When have you ever heard
somebody say I don't know this is going to sound
sexist and then it's totally not sexist at all, probably
almost never, So I'm just saying this is probably going
to be sexist.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I just think that for the guys out there, we
tend to prioritize efficiency, and the ladies tend to focus
more on esthetic, Like I want things to be easy
around the house and accessible and and you know, not
to spend time, and you know, the lady of the
(24:19):
house wants things to look and smell a certain way.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
It's just like it's a little different. And this is
where we.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Get to Also, I find that separating laundry is a
waste of time. I just I do my own laundry,
by the way, and I just throw my laundry in there.
And she says, well, your your colors are not as
colorful as they should be, and you're like, your whites
look like they're blue. And to this, I just say,
but think of how much time I save in my
life not separating out my laundry. I don't have many
(24:48):
white I don't have any like white sweaters or white
T shirts. Really, I've got maybe one or two, so
I go for efficiency. But then when we walk around,
she's like, that's a nice off white slash blue slash
gray T shirt.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
You're wearing it. You're just bring in as many colors
as you can the rainbow. I will.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
We're going to be joined, by the way, when we
come back. Governor of Louisiana has pushed us back to
this next segment, so he will be with us when
we come back. In the meantime, Buck is going to
be attacked dragged out for his incredibly sexist commentary.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
I can't believe it.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
I think I got an email complaining about something you
said the other day. By the way, I have no
idea what it was.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Really Usually, I'm supposed to be the school marm for you,
so this is funny. Apparently you're supposed to be the
school marm for me now I know. And man, there's
no telling how much delus we're going to get from this.
We'll come back here in a minute, but I want to.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Tell you, you.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Know, if I saw down here Wednesday night, guys who
run rapid radios. They're down here helping to advertise their product.
Awesome guys from Michigan. They were really hoping the Lions
were going to be in the Super Bowl, like my
wife is, who is also from Michigan. Long suffering Lions fans.
But man, they have built an incredible business. And basically
what they've done is they have allowed a nation wide
(26:00):
network of walkie talkies to exist that you can be
able to rely on no matter where you are in
the country, and in times of catastrophe, calamity, things that
are going awry, you can be able to connect with
your family all over the country. My wife has got
these plugged in in our house right by the front door,
and you walk in. They have a five hour load.
(26:23):
That is, you don't have to charge them for sorry
five day. They can maintain a charge for five days.
So if power goes out or you lose the ability
to communicate on your cell phone network, I'll tell you this.
Do you guys remember on Second Avenue Nashville Christmas twenty twenty,
guy blew himself up and blew up the cell phone network.
(26:44):
You couldn't use cell phones in Nashville for days. How
about when you have young kids, maybe you don't want
them to have access to a full cell phone. Maybe
you got parents who don't necessarily use cell phones that
well as they get older, but you want to be
able to be in touch with them, be able to
communicate nationwide. Get hooked up right now with rapid Radios.
Go online rapid radios dot Com sixty percent off, free
(27:06):
ups shipping from Michigan, plus a free protection bag, Rapid
Radios walkie talkies batteries, five day charge already to go
out of the box. Rapid Radios dot Com is the
website from Michigan, sixty percent off rappid radios dot com.
(27:28):
Governor of Louisiana joins us now, Jeff Landry. Jeff, I'm
down in New Orleans right now, ninety nine to five
WR no super Bowl preparations in full flex here. What
should people know in terms of security? Obviously, just a
little bit over a month ago we had the terror attack,
fourteen lives lost.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
How have things changed?
Speaker 3 (27:50):
How prepared is New Orleans for the Super Bowl coming
up this weekend?
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Well, look, I got to tell you, I think you
all right now is find of the safest place on
the planet. I mean, in a span of four days,
we had the new Homeland Security Secretary of Christy no
come in. On Monday yesterday, our newly sworn in Attorney General,
Pam Bondi came in. We've had briefing after briefing from
our federal partners. The amount of resources that it poured
(28:15):
into the city has just been extraordinary. If I could
count the man and women hours of all of the
different various agencies, state, local, and fads that have been
working twenty four and seven a round o'clock, certainly since
that tragedy of it. It's something we were working on
over a year ago. I think it's important to put
(28:35):
it in perspective. The city in New Orleans three years
ago was one of the most dangor cities in the
world from a crime standpoint, and so when we came
in a year ago, we made public safety a number
one issue in the state Louisiana, and we were focusing
on the Super Bowl irrespective. In fact, I was in
the city on New Year's night. We had come in
(28:56):
New Year's Eve because I was like, you know, we
had worked so hard, We've had so many wins. Things
were looking great, we had the fireworks, we had a
great police presence, and then and then to wake up
to that tragedy was just it was surreal, and we
knew that we had to reset, and you know, we
had to deal with families and victims and those that
were injured, and and and then put on a sugar
(29:18):
Bowl all looking towards the Super Bowl. So I feel
real good with where we are. And there's been so
many people that have put their best foot forward to
put the city in the in the shape it is
right now and we're ready to put the super Bowl on.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
What did you do? Governor? It's buck.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Thanks for being with us when you said you focused
on public safety. Uh, can you just give us some
of it, because, as you know, this is something that
is very much on the minds of a lot of Americans,
especially in states where they have taken a much more
lax approach to law enforcement and things have gotten rough,
thinking specifically of increases in crime in California and New
(29:55):
York other states. What did you do and what were
the results when you're talking about making the streets safe
specifically New Orleans but also stay wide.
Speaker 6 (30:05):
Well. Well, first of all, I spent eight years as
the attorney general, and of course before I was ever elected,
I served as a police officer and a sheriff's deputy.
I served as a military police officer and the military
as well, so I came from a law enforcement background
and I watched over those last eight years the struggle
that our men and women in uniform had based upon
(30:26):
the headwinds that were created over the defund the movement,
the movement, those things that basically eroded our law and order.
And so when I ran as governor, I said, we're
going to bring law and order back in and we
came in and we did a special session on crime,
and we focused on two things. We focused on victims
because we had lost sight of victims who were giving
(30:48):
criminals war rights and victims that's completely upside down in
the criminal justice system. And then we worked to strengthen
our laws and said, listen, we're going to make sure
that the crime fits, the penalty fists the crime. And
we understand it. Sometimes good people make a bad decision
and we want to give them a second chance. But
if you continue to wreck havoc on our streets and
do the same thing over and over again, we're going
(31:08):
to put you away. It was what's your away? I
got enough? You know, you can't be in society until
you learn to behave and that's how we focused, and
the legislature responded and we saw tangible results.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
We're talking to Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who is helping
to ensure security safety surrounding the Super Bowl. Uh, Governor,
President Trump is going to attend the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
This was wild to me. I couldn't believe it was true.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
There has never been a sitting president of the United
States ever go to the Super Bowl. What additional security
measures need to occur when someone like the president is
going to be at a game? And how big of
a deal do you think it is for Louisiana for
Trump to become the first president to ever attend the
Super Bowl and to do it at a New Orleans event.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
Well, you know, I gotta tell you, I was just
as shocked as you when they gave me that statistic,
and I was like, that can't be right. I mean,
after fifty nine Super Bowls, there's never been a sitting
president ever. Got Lord maholl you looked it up and
you are absolutely right. Look, I think that it speaks
values not only for the country, not only for the event,
(32:20):
but for President Trump himself. I mean, look, President Trump
is no stranger to we see a Superdome. He was
here when LSU won the national championship back when he
was a president. We hosted him. I was an Attorney
general at that time. And of course for him to
be here, and let me just say this, I think
for him to be here in this city after the
(32:41):
event that happened on New Year's Day in that tragedy,
speaks volume for the man that he is. I mean,
he is just such an He's just an unbelievable leader
and he gets it and he's like, you know what,
I'm going to the game because he enjoys football, don't
get any The President loves to be at a table
by football. He's a big football fan. And so I
(33:01):
just think having in there is I mean, I can
just go on and on the different messages that it
sends that Americans to folks in Louisiana and around the world.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Speaking of Governor Landry of Louisiana and Governor Clay is
gonna be at the Super Bowl Sunday.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
You're gonna be the Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (33:20):
I'm going to do.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
I assume, as you're the governor hosting this, you do
not tell us which team you are rooting for. I
don't know what the policies are here, but if you
can't tell us who you're hoping is gonna win, can
at least tell us about what the expectations are for
the day.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
Well, I'm just disappointed my Saints and in the super Bowl.
You know. That's that's that's that's the part I said. No, Look,
it's gonna be interesting. You know, I've asked that question,
and I'm really I'm really at at odds because you know,
on one side, you'd like to see somebody break a
Super Bowl record by having three consecutive Super Bowls. You
got the whole silly story. Ah, just the jury's the
(33:58):
jury's not out yet on me, guys.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
I am super excited to see how this is going
to go.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Governor.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
I know we talked to you before the Sugar Bowl
and everything eventually came off well there, I know they
had to move it a day. What I have seen
on the streets, super security. As you started off by saying,
it has been a fabulous week so far, and appreciate
the work you're doing, and you coming on, what should
people know as you'll leave us here to expect for
(34:26):
the Super Bowl from your perspective I think.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
They're going to see as the weekend plays into this festivity,
is just an unbelievable city that does what it does best,
which is to host people no matter who you are,
from all walks of life. I mean, that's a tragedy
of berber Street. You know, you know the event is
that berber Street is a place that signifies America better
than anywhere. All walks of life are welcome there to
have fun. But I think I think the biggest shout out,
(34:54):
the most unnoticed thing that is going to go instead
of men and women who have been working twenty four
in seven to make sure that those people come to
this city to enjoy themselves are safe.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I thank them, Amen, The Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry,
enjoy the game, and I hope everybody has a great
time this weekend. I know I've been having a good
time down here in New Orleans, and your state governor
appreciate the time.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Buck kidding about the amount of security that is out
and about I've been down here before for big games.
I've been down here before for Marti Gras. I've never
seen the amount of security that is everywhere and given
the fact that the President is going Super Bowl for
the first time ever, certainly that security needs to be
(35:44):
ramped up even a higher level. We come back, let's
have some fun final hour. We will take some of
your calls and dive into the third week of Trump
two point zero. And sometimes I feel like things are
moving so fast, Buck, that it's hard to keep tap
on all the things that have been occurring and all
(36:05):
the winds that are going to be stacked up. I've
got the latest border crossing numbers, for instance. When we
come back. We'll also talk about Trump scheduled to discuss
more with the Prime Minister of Japan, who is having
a state visit right there in Washington, DC as we speak.
Many different moving parts associated with that. Plus we've got
some incredible audio Department of Education democrats losing their minds
(36:28):
over security guards outside.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
We'll talk about all that
Speaker 3 (36:30):
More Final hour of the week up next Come hang
with us, claim Buck,
