Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to wellness on Mass.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm doctor Nicole Saffire and this is your weekly rundown. First,
we have something big happening. There's an alert from the USDA.
If you got Hello Fresh meals in your fridge, and
I can tell you my oldest son he uses HelloFresh.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
The USDA just.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Issued a warning about possible listeria contamination in some of
their dishes that include spinach. I love spinach, but oh
my gosh, if you have spinach from HelloFresh, it probably
needs to get thrown out. So far, there have not
been any confirmed illnesses, but the risk is real, especially
for pregnant women, newborns, elderly, and anyone with a weakened
(00:41):
immune system. Listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, confusion, and
in pregnancy sadly, it can lead to miscarriage and severe
newborn infections. So if you have Hello Fresh in your fridge,
you have spinach heed this morning, I would probably get
rid of the spinach some of the other stufe of have,
like I guess it's the cheesy pulled pork pepper pasta
(01:04):
or unstuffed peppers with ground turkey.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Throw it out.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
You can check with HelloFresh, I just wouldn't take any chances.
Food recalls may sound routine, but they're a good reminder
that wellness truly starts with awareness. And if the USDA
is putting out this morning, I just say get rid
of it.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Now, moving to something.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Entirely different, we are witnessing history being made. After two
long years, Israel and Hamas have agreed to what's being
called a monumental peace deal. It could not have happened
if President Trump were not in the White House. A
ceasefire and the start of the hostage release, the final
hostage release. This is a huge diplomatic breakthrough and for
(01:45):
many families a moment of hope that they thought may
never come. As a doctor, my mind is immediately going
to the hostages that are hopefully going to be returned
within the next seventy two hours. These innocent people have
been held in cap activity for over two years. They
are going to come home, I imagine in terrible condition,
(02:06):
and not just physical condition, terrible emotional condition as well.
Israeli hospitals reportedly are already preparing for what's next severe
and malnutrition, infections, organ damage, and deep psychological trauma. One
of the biggest concerns is actually something called refeeding syndrome.
So when someone who's been starving or near starving chronically
(02:29):
for a while suddenly starts eating again, their body sometimes
can't handle that shift. It can be fatal if not
managed carefully, so the doctors are going to urge slow
medical renutrition. As much as everyone wants large celebratory dinners,
their bodies might not be able to handle it. These
individuals have endured isolation, fear, and unimaginable deprivation. The medical
(02:55):
teams caring for them will need to address everything from
rebuilding muscle, stabilizing their vital organs.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
And just helping them learn how to sleep again, eat again,
and eventually trust humans again. This deal is historic, but
the healing ahead will take time, compassion, and enormous amount
of resources. Thank you so much for tuning in to
