A couple of nice things. Our boy JP. He was
(03:33):
up here on Father's Day, right on Father's Day, grinding
it out, putting together the dad combine. Just four cameras,
you and a bunch of creativity in your brain putting
nothing together. So that's out now, Dad.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Com go check it out. It looks it looks sick.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, it was nice. I popped on the first five minutes.
It was basically just my dad being late and Will
talking about how me and my dad are the same.
So I had to start off. My mental fortitude couldn't
handle that piece, so I had to pop that bad
boy off. Just a bad for Dave to start. I know,
bad look for Dave.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
Throughout the day, it seemed to be there was a
lot of allegations out there. Maybe the la Wan's didn't
learn fully from last year.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
But I hate how it's la Wan's too. It's there's
an at the end of there implying that I'm a
part of it. But yeah, dude, I mean, he shows
up late, he goes to throw the baseball, that thing
he's putting in the dirt twenty four I'm thinking of myself. Okay,
maybe it isn't my blood. Yeah, maybe it is genetic.
And then yeah, and then when he shows up, he
(04:29):
wants to talk about I'm a busy guy. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Like I heard him throw the excuse out there. He's like,
you know, traffic, and I'm just say, Dave, come on, man.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
He did it on purpose too, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Late, and like, dude, what are we doing You're sixty two.
It looks great though. Dave looks fantastic. Yeah, stacked up top,
you know.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, he had the.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
True classic on. He was looking fit, dude. And then
as soon as the day had combine ends, it's like
four minutes has gone by, he's already in a sleepless shirt.
All right, but workout.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
He looked good in the sleepless shirt. I know he's
listening to this right now. And the smiling, but he
had the tan going. He had the muscle shirt going on.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
He's a good looking a good looking cat.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
He flexed during the fashion walk, and he turned around
back to he knew where the camera was. Turned around
back to the camera, put him up and dude has
some biceps on.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
It was just put together.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
When you guys did it, we're doing the intro. I
don't know if I like there was a camera where
I was able to stay this on camera. But when
you guys are doing the intros, like, hey, we'll get
started like once, we just need the la Wanza do
their intro. Like when you guys are standing over there,
I think I was talking to Coop and I was like,
I saw your dad talking at the start, and I
looked over and I was like, I wonder who'll get
(05:48):
more words in on this on this little camera intro
And legitimately, I don't know how many minutes were going by.
There's like a few minutes to go by. I'm like,
they're still over there just.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Going for Garrett was like that was like seven minutes long,
and really, yes, it was just like a back and
forth forever. It's crazy. The older you get, yeah, the
older you get, the more you realize, like, oh, I
really am just like this guy.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
And I just I watch him walk in and I
see his smaller calves and I look down. I'm like,
all right, I see his bigger eprovide. I'm like, all right, well, yep,
we're similar that way. He comes in just wants to
talk about anything and everything for as long as possible.
My Hey, that's a lot like me too. He's late.
I'm like Jesus, Yeah, you were asking like, hey, what
are we doing?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Like everyone's here. You're like, you know, you got this.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
There's nothing you can do about it.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
You're your blood. Yeah, like this is in you.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
That is crazy, Like you can just show like at
least try. I try. You know, it's hard to break
these these family history, these generational curses. I'm out here
fighting day to day.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
I'll feel the same thing with my dad when he's
when he's around me. He was staying at the house
and I'm driving over, I like catch myself having kind
of like the same kind of grunts, the same.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Kind of you sit down, make a noise. Yeah, I
think the difference between because your dad's more introverted. Your
dad likes to sit, he likes to observe. And I
truly believe like, if it wasn't for this podcast, Will
would be much closer to Bill than he is now,
because Yeah, I could see I could see myself calling.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
You when he gets spacey, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
You'll be having folk conversation with him, then he'll just
stop and kind of walk off. I guess conversations gus,
it's over.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
I'll go through that sometimes too.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yeah, sometimes his brain just like you get the squirrel thing.
We're like, oh shit, maybe I'll just oh shit, we
were done. You don't even realize you're doing it.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
It's crazy because Taylor's dad when he was confronted immediately
on the uh on the gas the gas line from
last year, he goes, got the dumb though.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Right.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I'm like Dave. I looked at that. I talked to
day like a day or two before, and I go,
you know, there's zero percent chance you're gonna win. MPD
can't be built the way you are, act the way
you do it, and you're gonna get that. He was, Yeah,
but we can win the other things. Like David Davis,
his victories are all in these small things that truly
has no prize to it. It's really just whose vibe
is the best. He's competitive, competitive man. He wants it
(08:06):
a good.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Well, a good well rounded group of dads.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Good yeah, good group of dads. Yeah, we're not having
Garrett Jack's dad there.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
I know the two local dads.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I know they just happened to be out of town.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, but it is.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
It is kind of a well, we plany this a
month in advance, and I feel like your dads are
just great about having their next three months, their next
quarters dialed in for sure.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Next three quarters.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah right, yeah, but sherm Mitch Jared's dad, Jared's dad.
I mean, we don't want to give away demon all
the things that you need to go watch the vlog,
but jar vibe.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Yeah, mister Demon hit about eighty three dads throughout the day.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
It just.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Yeah, whose dads spro put together?
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah, there's a there's a there's a point where we're
doing the bud light packing of the cooler, and I
thought everybody just added an extra element every single time there,
Like there was something like when I went, I was like,
we really thought of it all. And then somebody else
was like, damn, that's a nice thing too. But when
Jared and his dad they started chanting it doesn't matter
if we win, as long as we do it together.
(09:14):
I was, I was out. I was mister Beaman lost it.
That's why I thought he lost the lost The room
was like yeah, and and I know there's a lot
of discrepancy about like the timer starts win did did
clump shit? Did say it he said, the thing has
to be off.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
But yeah, he said it, but it wasn't in the
initial rules that he was saying it will ask before
he went, hey, what's this? Clump says it so.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
All right because I know you and I were talking
before and we're like, yeah, we can't say it, so
it's kind of like we can kind of. You gotta
find the rules. You gotta find the gray and the rules.
That's how you manipulate the situation for the best possible outcome.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
Last shout out that I will personally give on the
Dad Comby. I just love Bill Compton so much, all
of his antics, the fashion walk. He just b lines it,
doesn't smile, doesn't do anything, just walks from start to finish,
grabs a true classic sign and.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Rolls sticks with this fastball. I said, hey, Dad, I'm
gonna match your energy. If you want to stop in
the middle, you want to bust a movie, you want
to do something like, I'll match your energy and kind
of go off you. And when he just took the
cup and just he just he just walked.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Man, He literally just walked and didn't even care long
enough to hold the sign, just like I put it
by his feet because he put the signs out there,
thought about doing the pose for a second, and then
that kind of game like half passed.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Last year, he truly did the exact same thing, except
all he did was say, hey, no cheap shots.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Yeah I didn't I didn't know. I didn't know how
Bill's performance would go with his new found physique. Yeah, dude,
I thought he was gonna he was gonna stumble a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
That was in that that day last year was the
year that started kicking off his It's like he a
couple of weeks later is when his sobriety started. But
you know, there was that big conversation that we had
and it was that it was that day really because
he crushed so many beers and he was like, you know,
he was a little sauced, and we got on a
conversation and Mom got brought up and just him kind
(11:19):
of like how hard everything is and everything else, and
we just kind of had like a very necessary like
heart to heart that.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Night, come to Jesus.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, yeah, one where it was like, hey, Dad, I'm
just gonna say this because I don't want to lecture you.
I hate feeling like I'm lecturing you, especially if I'm
saying something and it's not what you're wanting to hear,
or I'm not being helpful because I'm just trying to
give you a solution, and i just want you to
tell me, like if you want to you know, you
want to see mom, you want to get to the
other side, you want to do all that stuff. Keep
doing what you're doing because you're headed that way. And
(11:47):
that's like, you know, it kind of like started from
there because it's kind of hard when you're it's very difficult,
like if you lose a parent or you lose a
family member. You're trying to have conversations where you all
have your different grieving processes. And again, I'm in Nashville,
so I have like a different life that's going on.
He has his life that's going on. My brothers have
their lives that are going on, and everybody's kind of
in these different parts of like the grieving process and
(12:09):
how long it affects people and this that the other
and everything you're carrying all the time, and it's kind
of hard to find like what that common ground is
or what to say if I'm in a different headspace
than he's in and it's it's like tough. It's like,
you know, it's very like weighted because you don't want
to say anything that's going to like because I'll sit
there and I'll start thinking in my head, dude, this
(12:29):
is the conversation every time, And not that I fault
you for it, Like I know it's hard and I
know you're going through it, but it's this every time.
If this is what it's going to be, like I
need to know where your head's at because what he
was doing with his health, Like you know, he's always drunk.
He's always been a massive drinker. It's always been fun
like anytime he comes down, Oh Billie Season town, bill
(12:50):
Compton's in town, he puts the you know, he'll put
the he'll put the thirty rack out side to cool
it up if it's in the winter, and there's always
those like fun things to play on. I know he
laughs and stuff, but it was just like it was
just that one of those moments where you're you know,
I'm kind of fed up, but also I want to
know what he wants because I don't want to sit
(13:10):
there and seem like I'm coming off as like a
parent to him. If he's not going to if he
just wants to do the same thing.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
It's an interesting perspective that you have compared to the
rest of your family, because I'm sure it's difficult at
times for you to put it like put yourself in
their shoes, because obviously you're going through your own grieving process.
You have all these things going on, but you also
have an ability to be in Nashville where there's not
like you're not turning a corner and seeing a street
sign where you're having a memory pop in your head.
All those things over and over again. So Bill, to
(13:38):
go through what your family's gone through and to hit
the bottle or whatever was going on as like a
very normal thing for someone to do, especially when they're
in the same town, in the same house, in all
those things. And that's why Bill deserves a lot of
credit to kind of stand ten toes down after this
conversation and be like, my son is right, which is
a whole different dynamic, right like you, Now you've been
the kid, You've looked up to your dad, you have conversations,
(14:00):
you ask him for advice, and at some point those shifted.
So now he's got to humble himself and look at
his son who's telling him advice that is worth listening
to and put that away and be like, Okay, I
need to listen to this and face these demons. So
when I go to that stop sign with that nostalgias
hitting me instead of going to numbt working through it.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Dude, because you know, and if any the lows are
bontare cops. So listen to this. Just go ahead and
mute this part. But he would, you know, he would
tell me, like his daily routine, Like he'd get home
from work, he'd go, he'd get a he'd get a rack,
and he would drive around all the memorable spots that
he would have kind of growing up, you know what
I mean, Or to take his mind away from it,
(14:38):
he'd go, like you know, he'd be sipping probably not
have more than two is uh, you know, bac was
probably below point zero eight. But then to take his
mind off of it, he would go to spots where
he only knew good moments war from when he was
growing up to kind of get his mind away. But
that would be his daily routine. Yeah, and you know,
(14:58):
I'm proud of where I grew up, of course, but
you're in a spot to where there's not a whole
lot of ambition. So when he goes into cheap smokes,
or when he goes into a spot when he would
get his beer or anything else, you see the worker
behind the cash register, Like you get home from He
commutes an hour and a half each way or two
hours each way, so he's in the car like four
hours a day. Then when he's going around town and
(15:19):
going to his local spots that he goes to, he's
like seeing people behind the cash register that might not
have a whole lot of ambition, And you're just surrounded
by this stuff environment wise, and I'm like, it sucks
because I can't be there, But who are you surrounding
yourself with to like help get you out of the stuff.
He doesn't, he'll work out on his own. He'll like
do his own thing. He gets in these slumps. He's
(15:39):
in the doctor's office all the time, getting prescribed some
fucking new orange bottle all the time, and you know,
it's just a path that's like again, it was like, hey,
if you want to die, like keep doing what you're doing.
And I hate having to talk about this all the
time because you know, you get to where you both
break down he's breaking down. You feel for him. But
(15:59):
that was a year ago. So when after this one,
we're sitting down and you know, we're having another conversation,
and uh, he brings up that this was this was
the year he read some book. I wish I had
the book that I could share with everybody, But he
read some book. After that conversation, he fucking just quit
cold turkey. Yeah, it's like some book that had a
chapter if you're gonna have your last drink tonight, you're
(16:20):
gonna have a last sip and you kind of put
everything in the bed because you're going in a different direction.
He read this book that really got in his head
and just kind of motivated him to just get on
top of shit. And he's like down over seventy pounds.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Yeah, he looks great.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Billy yeah, Billy yeah, Billy Bezos man.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Billy Bezos. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Man.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
It is Uh, it's the tragedy and all that stuff is.
It's so interesting how there's like kind of two ways
that people mostly go about it. It's like running from
it or just immersing yourself in it and not being
able to get out of the hole.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
And it's just uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah. Absolutely, it's cool.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
To like to spin it back to the dad combine
that we got to do. It's like thinking that the
dad combine brought a moment like that together. And then
now we're in our second annual in and you just
see all these moments, Like listen to Jared's dad's speak
at the end when he you know, I won't ruin it,
no spoilers, but when he's given a speech, Yeah, and
just to see the gratitude that he kind of has,
(17:17):
and just seeing everybody's dad around him, We're all just
like chopping it up. They might see each other once
a year, but you see some carryover from last year,
some building on momentum from last year, just the dads
being around each other. The dad talk was at an
all time high. I walked by one. I hear Sherman's
dad telling, you know, Coop's dad about mortgage talking. They
were talking about a mortgage. Yeah, those fleeting conversations. You
(17:38):
see Mitch's dad sitting he's either getting some emails in
but he's got his sunglasses on the hat and he's
got his reading glasses on the arch of his nose
and he's going through emails. Is just it's it's just
cool to kind of look at yeah and see everybody,
see all the busts and boys with their with their dads.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
That is nice.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Man.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
You just see every once in a while walking by,
like one of the dad's patasa on the ass or
they're kind of like just giving little bump walking. It's
like it's nice to see that connection. Yeah, because yeah,
I mean having kids ourselves, Like you realize this is
the most time you're spent with your kids, and then
when they turn twelve or thirteen, there be all about
their friends, and then they'd be all about their careers
and then they're didn't get married those Yeah, it's exactly
(18:17):
what I was just thinking about. It is just like
you see, it goes away a year and so to
have an excuse two And I think you said in
the beginning well of being like, yeah, we're working today,
but we're also like what an opportunity does to see
all our dads and get to hang out.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
And just hang dude, just hang and just have the
reason of a we have to work, we have to
make content, we have to get a walkout. We'll do
it for that. And then at the end, like I'm
listening to old Bill and Dave talk and Dave just
telling him like, hey, let me know the next time
you're down, like come on, like, come on down, like he.
Dave even said like, we don't have to go out
with the kids, but we can hang out.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
We can hang out.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, we can hang out just us. I'm thinking of
myself in the way Bill calls.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah, He's like, we don't have to be with the kids.
I'm just thinking, like I'm thirty five years old.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
What.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
I was talking to Bill after and I was like, hey,
this is good, but you know, Christmas we got the
Ginger Break competition. Yeah, he's like, you need to text
me this time. I get it. You want to point
at Will about the direction, but like to think the
Ginger Break competition was after Christmas on a Saturday. It
is crazy.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Saturday after Christmas.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Two years ago, Bill and I partnered up on the
Gingerbread houses and we took it like his whatever off brand,
school whatever, and we're like putting it up. We put
a little house in and stuff like that. It was.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
It was awesome cause we came to your guys' Christmas
thing like with families and stuff like that. This last
one was like our third year in a row. Yeah,
and this is the first one the old man couldn't
get to.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
We'll get him this year. Yeah, the day because Christmas
on like a Wednesday or a Thursday this year, so
we did it on like a Monday or something like that.
And then yeah, right before Christmas. And then Bill. Bill
thought it was like, I let's say, let's say Christmas
on Thursday. Bill, it was Saturday. Said two days later,
(20:02):
forty eight hours later.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
I'm just picture in that phone call being so funny.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
We're just trying to figure out. I'm like, uh so,
when are you gonna come down this year for Christmas?
And he didn't come down this past year, but he
was like, well, I thought it was on I thought
it was on Saturday. And I'm like, da, why would
it be on Saturday twenty seven? Bill, Yeah, Christmas is
on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah. That is just nuts, man.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
His changes of tone in his to is so funny.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:30):

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Father's Day was good?
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Man?
Speaker 1 (21:13):
We uh so Saturday night. So I was like, what
do you want to do? And I was like, you know,
like I don't.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Here it goes JP.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
If I could do less, I could just do less.
I'm good with it, Like I don't. We don't need
to have anything planned out. We don't. I don't need
to have anything special, like just hang. But I was like,
on Saturday, I would love to uh, I would love
to get on the sticks and go in with the
boys and get to sleep in a little bit on
Sunday because we'll probably stay up late. So Saturday night,
did my little gas station run after we got the
(21:42):
kids down, grab myself a bay, no free shot outs
to bay, a liquid death this new cherry flavor that
they seem to have, no shout out, no free shot
to liquid death. And an energy drinks. Yeah, and an
energy drink because I knew I was gonna I was
gonna need a little I was gonna need a little
juice to stay up. Sherman. I get on about nine thirty.
(22:04):
We played until about three in the morning, two thirty three.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
In the morning. Just a good time, huh.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Just a good time. Damn good time, you know. Yeah,
we had Uh. It was me, Sharham, Jared and Jared's
friend Samuel. So shout out.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Samuel, Samuel the boy that's really good.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah, he's solid. Samuel's good.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Yeah. No chicken dinners that that was gonna be my
next question.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
No chicken dinners. We got close a couple of times.
We couldn't bring it home, but we were up. We
were up till about it was like two thirty or three,
and we were still saying, be a shame if we
played the other one and I'm just giving like fellas,
I'm I get to sleep in. I'm sleeping in, slept
till about eight thirty, rus waking me up and go out.
(22:48):
They have me a nice little card. They got me
a book for Father's Day. But the book is a
children's book to where it's like one of those custom
books you can make. Were in this book. Dad is
a superhero somewhere in the cape, the whole thing. But
they make these little caricatures of like your kids, so
like Ruined Scottie are in the book. So I forget
what the book's called, but I'm a superhero. I'm saving
the day, saying some corny jokes along the way. In
(23:10):
the book, they have their little caricatures on every page,
and you know, go Dad go, said rue, And I
didn't think Dad could do this, said Scotty. Stuff like that.
So where you're reading and they're getting to see it
from their perspective, and Charles like, I got you one
more gift, which this will kind of be my shot out,
no free shutout. Every guy thinks about it, but they
don't necessarily stay on top of it. Every dad wants
(23:32):
every guy wants a clean truck. And they had remind
themselves all the time that I gotta get this thing clean.
I got to take it to the car wash. Would
love to get a detail, and only those one percenters
of men stay on top of it. Like every few weeks,
Cooper Comstock, he's in the shop. He's a graphic designer.
He's one of them. Keeps his truck just looking pristine.
A man's man gets his little cover. What's that call
(23:53):
where they're blocking the windshield, a little sunshield that he
has sitting there where his truck just sits at work
every day. He puts a little sunshield on, takes care
of his vehicle like a man should. Yeah, and I
walk outside him. Charlie had a little mobile detailer come
over and they washed and detailed my truck. It looks
just brand new. And it was awesome because last week
I was talking to Coop and I was we were
talking to some I think I was talking to his dad.
(24:15):
I was like, dude, you raised a good young man.
He really like takes care of his shit. He takes
care of his truck the way a man should. It's
actually inspired me to want to like, I want to
stay on top of cleaning my truck. I have a
long way to go, but I want to attain what
coop where Coop's at? And sure enough, now I'm sitting
in there, and now it's all on me to keep
it clean. But it is. It looks gorgeous. So Charlie
got me that for my gift for Father's Day. We
(24:36):
go to her parents' house for Father's Day. They have
a little community pool, so we went swimming. We came back.
I might have dozed off a little bit. I didn't
get too long. I didn't get to take like a
true nap that I would have liked to have taken
from stand up till three. And he is never perfect, yeah,
never perfect. But I wanted to Like the one thing
I want to do is I wanted to take ru
(24:56):
to get a go buy her address for Father's Day
and just have a little father daughter time. And every
spot we go to it was closed on Sunday. So
I take her to L and L Market, No free shot,
It's to len Ol Market. She loves energy balls. We
sit down, we have some energy brand. Took you to
a coffee shop, Yeah, yeah, took it to a coffee shop.
(25:19):
Got these energy balls and she loves and we're gonna
sit there. Dad's having an s I e bowl. She's
having a little she's having her energy balls. I'm trying
to sit there and ask her about ballet camp and stuff,
and I can just tell she's just in her pretend
imagination world. She's kind of like walking around the coffee
shop with her arms behind her back. I see her
like whispering stuff. I'm like, hey, what what are you?
What are you doing? And she's like, I'm or. She's like,
(25:41):
I'm the queen. Like, oh, you're the queen. She's like,
I'm Elsa. I was like, oh, you're Elsa. Is this
your castle? She's like, no, it's not a castle. It's pretend.
I was like, oh, is it a pretend castle? And
she's like, yeah, it's a pretend castle. So I beeve
and she was like do you want to be on it?
And I was like, I'll be honest, So we just
buy in. I'm on it. She's Elsa. We have to
talk about, Hey, we have to go leave and pick
up the we have to go pick up dinner for
(26:03):
this Father's Day dinner that charge ordered. She didn't want
to leave, and I'm like, so I'm telling her, we
have to navigate the seas all the way back home.
The truck is the boat, the road is the water,
and every car is either a shark or a dolphin.
So we're just trying to navigate ourselves back.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
It's got to be hard to be on Elsa with
your parents dying at sea. Yeah, yeah, she's probably having
a little pts.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
We use your Scottie Mama and waffle. We just had
to save them. We had to locate them and we
had to save them. So we're just battling the treacherous
waters of the ocean to try and locate them and
save the day. So we had a good little time
going home. But it was a pretty It was a
good father's day, very good father's day.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Have you seen a I don't know if it's a
conspiracy theory, but yes, parents are actually yes you seen that?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Yes, I love it?
Speaker 2 (26:48):
And it kind of plays yeah, because there's this world
where all these Disney movies are low key, like put together,
like they're all kind of intertwined with one another, and
that would be do you guys know the conspiracy?
Speaker 1 (26:59):
All of you guys, So you know how Tarzan his
parents they end up dying because they're shipwrecks. They have
to build a little treehouse. The jaguar comes and gets
them and they die. Well, in Frozen On and Elsa,
their parents get lost at sea and they end up dying.
So they're saying that, yeah, allegedly, so they're saying that
on On Elsa's parents they had Tarzan while they were
(27:20):
out at sea, and Tarzan is the little brother of
Ann and Elsa because both parents died in this moment
of the scene, and dying at sea kind of bridges
it all together.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Yeah, yeah movie, Yeah, nuts, Yes, I could see the dad.
I could see the dad in that photo right there.
The mom not so much, right, not so much in.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Them having like muskets and stuff. They say, like the
timeline doesn't match up. But it's a fun theory to
play in. It's a fun theory to play.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Yeah, you want it. They would be awesome, Yeah, the
fake world. It would be awesome to see every Disney
movie somehow intertwined and like somebody comes out in twenty
five thirty years like opens a vault. Yeah, it's like
a handwritten letter by Walt Dizney himself, Like they all
have to connect. That would be all fucking time.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
How was how was your father's there? I know you
had to go. Yeah, you had to go wed a
beautiful couple.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yes, dude, I officiated a wedding this weekend. Shout out
to the Tigninis Madeline and it was awesome.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
I mean, who gets married in June and Arizona psychopaths? Psychopaths.
We're trying to save a couple of bucks. I respect
the shit out of the saving part. But Buddy, I
got off the plane Friday afternoon and I thought, this
is I can't believe I grew up in this. This
is insane. I remember the last time I was there
in June. But we get there Friday. We go to
the Buffalo Chip, which is like no free shutouts shot
(28:39):
Buffalo chot for shot outs. To the books Up in
Cave Creek. We see a little bull riding. People are
hanging out having a good time. I talked to Tanner
before and I'm like, hey, can I can the kids
come to the wedding? And He's like, hey, listen, there's
only sixty four people or sixty eight people. We're so full.
I know it's a pain in the ass. But if
you could just you and tailor who come, that'd be great.
All right, fine, I'll start making I'll start figuring that out.
(28:59):
They moved to Boulder, which is in like Carefree, which
is right next to Cave Creek, and he calls me.
He's like, hey, we got seventy five people. Now if
the kids want to come, It's like three days before.
So I'm like, hey, it's already.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Hay's in the baring.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Hay's in the barn. Plans already happened. So I wasn't
able to take the kids. But we go there, go
to the chip Saturday. I like during weddings usually you
see the bride and groom like very minimally, like you
get five six minutes with them. Hey, it was great
to see you. Congratulations, amazing. I hope you guys last forever,
and you kind of move on. For whatever reason, I
was with Madamon Tanner, like the entire time. It was awesome.
(29:32):
And the whole time Tanner's like, you know, hey, you know,
I'm just you know, he's playing it down. He's like,
this is I'm not nervous. Whatever. And so we go
to the wedding. The ceremony is about to take place.
This lady's on the violin giving it hell. She's doing
a phenomenal job. And I see Madeline hit the corner.
She looks beautiful, and then all of a sudden, I
(29:53):
see Tanner's head go down and he starts weeping, weeping.
I see Madeline, see Tanner weeping. Now she's weeping. I'm
close with both of these two, and I feel myself
as the officiate, getting water in my eyes. And I'm
thinking of myself, could you imagine crying and being the
officiant of a wedding and like maybe crying. We're here,
(30:17):
We're gathered here today. I'm like, I give me a minute, guys,
And I'm like watching her walk down, I'm like, this
is beautiful. Like you know, I've been a part of
their relationship, so I'm like, I'm very invested in this couple.
As I'm like about to efficiate, I'm thinking to myself,
I need to Like I'm talking to myself mind, like
lock it up, because you're about to make a fool
out of yourself. They get there, they hold hands, they
start crying. I'm thinking to myself, how long do I
(30:39):
wait before I start? I'm in there do the thing.
Part of me wants to embrace them, but it's like, hey,
we got to stop back, let them like, this is
their moment together. Yeah, the crowd, Yeah, but it was
it was awesome the thing when it went great, everybody
was awesome. Madelin has two kids, Jack in Scotland. Those
kids are outstanding. They've seen the they I get there,
(31:02):
they want to play with me through on my shoulders.
The whole time. I'm like pseudo nannying for them. As
they're like doing their photos. They're talking to me about
Battle Camp, how they wash the show, and they love it.
They call it Taylor's show. They're all about it. And
so that was really fun. But the next day, Sunday,
Father's Day, I get I don't get home, so like
three four o'clock I get home. The kids are fired up.
They were giving big hugs. They make this little banner
(31:23):
for me that has like all these photos from when
they were little, and they wrote notes like Win handwritten
her own notes, Lindsay or Nanny. She's like she wrote
four Willow. But it's like I love them. My dad
plays with me. I love them. My dad does this
And it was just it was awesome. And then we
went and saw the the new How to Train Your
Dragon movie.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
I saw that, Yeah, how was it?
Speaker 2 (31:45):
So there was it was me tailoring the girls. Carmen
came taled friend Carmen. Yeah, shout out Carmen, and then
shots Carmen. And then this uh, our neighbors who we've
become really close with. They come to the movie as well,
so we got our stuff. Nice little row and the
first ten to fifteen minutes of this movie, boys, I'm
telling you, tough, tough acting. Yeah, it's hard. It's hard
(32:08):
to watch. For a second. Hiccup does a great job,
but everybody's kind of like I felt, everyone's like finding themselves,
and even the extras in the back, Like the movie
starts the same way the cartoon starts like dragons, and
then the dragons are attacking the land and you just
see like these extras in the background kind of just
like pretending to hit things. And it's like very obviously
bad at first, but once this this toothless guy gets involved,
(32:30):
the movie takes a crazy good turn. It is a
great movie, you guys, you go check it out. Kind
of scary, kind of got scary at the end. Girls
took it on the chin, though, took it on the chin.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Do they add like are they adding different elements or
is it pretty much.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Just there's more, like in depth, like the development of
Hiccup and what's the girl's name. Yeah, there's a kiss.
There's a lot of giggling going on in that kiss too. Lot,
there's a lot more development there. There's a lot more
(33:08):
in depth about like when if you don't know, the
first one, Hiccup and his little crew that end up
becoming his crew that don't treat him very well. They
start like dragon fighting training, and then the rest of them,
the rest of the Vikings, go to find this nest.
There's a little more in depth about the nest in
the Search for the Nest than there is in the
actual cartoon. But overall, dude, four point five, great movie. Great.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
To Train Your Dragon is incredible.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
It is awesome. And you've seen all three?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Now, yes, is there three?
Speaker 2 (33:36):
There's three? The three and they rounded out great. The
trilogy is finished.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Show show me the third one.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
The third one had the light theory, the light theory.
Speaker 7 (33:45):
The white one, the white one with the mom oh.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
You don't know, that's the second one. That's the second one.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Have you seen Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yeah, okay, yes, I've seen this one.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
You've seen that.
Speaker 7 (33:58):
Yes, what happens?
Speaker 1 (34:00):
That's his love interest, the white one. Yeah, they're all
running together right now. But I have seen that one
to where to where they leave there they go be
their own thing and then Hiccup they end up having
their little puffs of their own.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah. Yeah, when he lands on the boat, he doesn't
recognize him at first. Great movie, great movie. Who is
the guy that writ and directed that movie? Wrote and
directed that movie? Mm hmm, there's a there's a reason
why I'm asking, there's a reason why. Let's get to it.
(34:37):
Who does the voice of Hiccup?
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Those are the directors?
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Yeah, Canadian guy, but I think he was a big
and like the productions. Yeah, is a good movie, comedy,
good comedy. Jay also, wasn't it one of the leads
in Goon and wrote and directed good So it all
(35:03):
comes back to good boys know how to Train your Dragon?
Charlotte Mayne, that's one of our boys, dude. Yeah, but
so awesome. Father's Day fantastic. It was good. It was
a nice little time.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Kids, Chloe when we were driving to her parents' house, Like,
you know, we're playing different songs on Spotify, No fore
shoutouts to Spotify, But dude, the post Malone's yours Yeah,
it's just so fucking good. I'm sitting there. I look
(35:37):
over and I'm like, hey, you're trying to make us
you want me to cry on this drive because I'm close,
But it's that song right there. I am obsessed with
that song. You guys, listen to that song.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
I don't think I've listened to that song on purpose
because I.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Know, like, yeah, it's one of those where I I'll recommend.
It's like, hey, if you want to have a good
cry and think about your daughter, listen to yours from
Post Malone.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
The Don't Take the Girl and There Goes My Life
are two songs that I'm actually like, I protest now
I won't if they come on in the car, I'll
sort I'll turn the channel. If everybody's like, let's listen
to this song, might pull the car over, hey, lean in,
lean in the you know there's times for that. But buddy,
as I get older, I just cry about everything. Yeah. Well,
(36:21):
I'm watching How To Train Your Dragon and I'm hearing
they're kissing and when's giggling about a kiss, and I'm
like getting emotional about that's what she's in her life now.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yeah, So I'm like.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Sitting here watching a movie, a kid's movie, with tears
in my eyes, and so I'm like, I'm solid, like
like those two songs. See ya, We're good? All right?
No thanks. There's a level of leaning I'm willing to
give right now, but I just can't.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
I have to.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
I have to like live my life. Also, I have
to operate.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
You need a lean into yours by post alone. I
need you to listen to it.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I might. I'll listen to it on a flight and
just be crying.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
The extra of Southwest. No for shout out to Southwest.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Yeah, no for Shore.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Looking it out the window, it looks like it's writing
out there.
Speaker 1 (37:11):

(37:55):
to the episode. Can we talk about something USA beaten?
Speaker 2 (38:00):
We can talk about that if you want. Shout out
us A and also shout out the Florida Panthers. Hopefully
sealing up Game six and keeping the Stanley Cup within
the borders.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Having zero skin in the game, I'm kind of I've
been like from Afar, hoping that the Oilers win because
played on the oilers.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah, love with love love that. Have you been to Edmonton, No,
not a lot of people have. I'll say this, I
just want to keep it in the state side. Let's
just keep it state side. I know it's all encompassing
under the umbrella of NHL. Let's keep it stateside. We
needed after the Four Nations when.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
I'm a Canadian team won.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
It's been a long time. It's been a long time.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
I just think for the for business, it could be
good if a Canadian team wins.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
That's where you go to the umbrella thing like it's
great if I think the Panthers won last year, right
two people, Now we're talking about dynasty mode. Oh really,
so even better? Even better?
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Oh wow, give me the Panthers a repeat.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Yeah, who's that?
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Who's the guy that does not get along with biz?
Speaker 1 (39:05):
I'm oh the dude who always like the dude who
always calls in.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, I know it's a bit, but it's Brad Marshan.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
That's always funny. They're back and forth as one.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
And the boy he played on Pittsburgh correct for all
his entire career, Bruins, thank you for his entire career,
like a staple that in that franchise and gets traded.
He does his press conference when he gets to the
Florida Panthers like essentially in tears, like he's really upset
that he went from the Bruins on the Panthers and
now he's an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. So
that's even that's beautiful as well. Yeah, the last time
(39:40):
the Stanley Cup was won by a Canadian team was
June ninth, nineteen ninety three. So to all my family
members up there in Canada, my wife's family members, looks
like we still got something, but the thing.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
I want.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Thirty seven years ago. It's just like nineteen ninety three
when you know, or just a Scoons, my little boons
in the early two thousands, thinking nineteen ninety three was that's.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
The incorrect math? Was not even born? Yeah, I was
two and I'm thirty three.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
I was born in thirty two years Yeah, fair, what
was that thirty three?
Speaker 7 (40:15):
Thirty two years ago?
Speaker 2 (40:16):
You're four years?
Speaker 1 (40:17):
It's the three and the five, the two that I
was making.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
The something you carry the one the wrong way. Things
can get messed up in a lot of ways.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
We're closer to twenty fifty than we are two thousand.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I saw that, dude, as of June first, as of
June firstly, Second, no, dude, because there's June is the
sixth month, Jamie. Yeah, it's a six month, so we
are closer to every day, we're closer to twenty fifty
than we are to two thousand, and that is disgusting.
We're all gonna die soon. We're gonna blink.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Boys. Jack's about to have a breakdown.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
Literally in my calendar on July second, I have we're
closer to twenty fifty than two thousand, all day.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Pull it up, Jamie.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Yeah, no, it's all it's here, is it? Oh? Oh yeah,
we're right.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Jack is correct.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
No, Jack, Jack is wrong.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
In the twenty four.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Yeah, you got fucked up by the years. Huh Yeah, yeah,
I too. I got fucked up by the years too.
Time since January first, two thousand is twenty five years,
five point five months. Time until January twenty fifty twenty
four years, six point five months. So yeah, we're past it.
Type shit, type shit. We're all gonna be old, We're
(41:32):
all gonna die soon. That's sad.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
But no, I know everybody's sitting in their car at
home right now, just thinking what the fuck. Yeah, thank
god I listened to Bustle with the Boys. Thank god,
Thank god for competitions like this. So I'm now more
aware of my timeline.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
We know, we leave a comment say that timeline is crazy, crazy,
just to make the mind blown emoji put that out there.
Speaker 5 (41:52):
This surviveds me, the Bee Lou and the Ziest Guy.
They were talking about how dumb the early philosophers were.
They were they were just first, they weren't actually smart,
And they pulled up Isaac Newton's Laws of motion and
they're like, look at this shit, man, this dumbass of
object in motion. What's to say, be loop stays in motion?
Speaker 2 (42:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
No, duh.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Then they start coming up with their own and it
is funny.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
That is funny.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
The halfway point between the year's two thousand and twenty
and fifty is the year two twenty five. More specifically,
it's the date July second, twenty twenty five. According to
a Facebook post, Jack let it go, man.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Move on, Jack, I won't He's ruined.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Jack's like tapping JP on the shoulders. Checked. Check this out.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
I think they're still funny, just in the corner of
the bus.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Yeah, this is I'm not accepting what we're saying, not to.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
Bring, not to run more people's days. But should we
as a community be worried about Nebraska football right now?
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Let's ask don't do it.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
I love Matt rule to death. There's just been a
couple of things that's been online. Matt Ruhle jumping off
a John Deere tractor, stunting a little bit. He's stunting
a little bit there, mouth a little too wide open
right there, like he won he took that photo. He
went and saw the photo in the guy's camera goes,
let me get one more. That's that's a really great photo.
(43:18):
Then he's he's on all fours with a recruit, try
to get a cone off his back.
Speaker 5 (43:23):
He won the drill, right, he won.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
The drill went one and one, So that kid lost
his scholarship.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
He's got fun with the recruit, like, hey, he's showing that.
Hey he can get busy, he can get down on
the turf.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
We gotta we gotta focus on ball. You have Busting
the Bust and Bulls coming up September twenty. You gotta
you gotta stay in your playbook. What did cam Moore say, Hey,
what do you do this offseason? Throw the fucking ball.
Stay in my playbook and throw the fucking ball. Cam
Warden got a recruit, throw the fuck out of the ball.
Got that one right though, Jack huh, I'm still tys.
(43:54):
Got that pick right? I know you let it go.
But let's focus on the show, right. Those people that
listen show the show, shows the show. But I mean,
what are we doing here?
Speaker 1 (44:04):
Man, there's it's a recruiting season. Man, you got a recruit.
I think he was flipping burgers in a bust and tee.
He coach rule for rocking the bust and the series.
He's flipping burgers and saying that they're in like the
final stretch. I want to say, there's like six or
nine days left. Yeah, he's in recruit mode.
Speaker 5 (44:19):
I also saw you guys. I didn't realize this until
the other day. Y'all have the number two I think quarterback.
We're committed to Nebraska.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Yeah, I think that was I think that was the
kid who put on the Illinois head and threw it
right up an apology.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
Why I think this guy's younger. Maybe because he also
did just tweet shout out to the game Cocks for
the offer. So that's that's why I saw it.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
On his page.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
I was like, let me see about this guy, and
in staid he's in Nebraska commit, but he just tweeted
about the game Cocks.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
I was like, let me number two quarterback in the country.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Yeah, country.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
The rain could be starting to.
Speaker 5 (44:59):
Be a hue huge grab.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
It would be a massive grab. Yeah, it would be
a massive.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
Have the number two quarterback in the country with whatever
class he's in. But we all know ain nothing finalized
until you're you're at the school. And even then, yeah,
even then, it's not finalized. Because Rail was a perfect example.
He goes to I think he commits. It was Ohio
State Georgia. I remember, I was like, it's never over
till it's over.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
Right, because I knew when we were in Georgia for
the Georgia South Carolina game, you were saying something about
that kid that you knew. I felt like you knew something,
like you were part of that illuminati that understood what
was going on in high school.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
Was in conversations. I wasn't like privy to like it's
still open, but I'm just thinking the way, you know,
the way these recruits and these kids are moving now.
You truly don't loyalty nowadays. Yea, yeah, you don't know
until they actually get the campus.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Like I remember in the off season rock in the
bus and yeah, that's fire, that's fire. When when the
off season started, the college football off season and Rayola
puts up this tweet a bit like I'm staying here,
that's what it really set into. I was like, Oh,
people can just fucking leave, can't they. Yeah, well, you
think all this royal kid's gonna be here for the
next three to four years and just bring Nebraska back,
(46:08):
but he can just go.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Yeah, portal money is a different games.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Yeah, which our guests today you will find out a
lot about that. Yeah, you will find out a lot
about that.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
DP.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
I know we hate it, but something that I would
love to see personally is a quarterback go to four
different schools in four years and win four national championships.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
That would be elite. That would be that would be elite.
Speaker 5 (46:30):
This Cam Newton's like, he's the type of talent that
could have done it right. You got to have somebody
like that.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
You gotta have a cam out there. Yeah, yeah, I
mean according to everybody else, Bryce Underwood. That scares me
a little bit. Man.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
I saw something come out on on Bryce Underwood that
he's a little overweight.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
Wait, they saw the busting photo.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
No, no, it wasn't. It made me think about it
because I'm thinking, you know, I was, I'm in line
with all that, So I think he looks phenomenal. They're
saying that there's I'm uh, there's some some separation on
what the expectation is and how he hasn't really been
meeting him in the either on the scale or whatever
it is. How he's put on some more weight in
freshman fifteen. I'll be honest, I looked at it.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Oh AI says, no, Bryce Underwood is not overweight. Thank
you Yeah, AI Overview shout out AI over No free
shout outs to AI Overview.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
I read it the tweet I saw. I read it
as somebody's just trying to create something that's not that's
fake that they could.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
One of how it tates Burner accounts. He decided to
get that out there and renversation. Yeah, the so listen,
this Bryce Underwood cat, the way his dad talks, the
way you see him work. I've already said this a
couple of times, but the way people are talking about
this kid right now, I get nervous because the expectation
is so high. It's so it's like almost an impossible
(47:49):
marker to meet, which I love. If knowing this kid
for the small, simple size I do, and his dad
talking the way he does, sounds like that's what he wants.
He wants the bar to be set incredibly high for him.
I just, you know, as a person who's gone through
a national championship season, a fifteen and oh national championship
season as a fan, and then gone through what I
went through last year My heart's in a weird place,
(48:10):
all right. The foundation is in a weird place right now.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
Right.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
I know, like two things are true, death tax, three things.
Death tax is a beating the house state, Like, I
know those things are going to happen. So I feel
good about that. But the rest of the season, it's
you know, I was on I won my flight back
Oklahoma guy wearing Oklahoma hat. Was he behind me in
our seating count? Yeah? Was that maybe a little forecast maybe?
But I saw him and we talked about it a
(48:34):
little bit. He's a little nervous. But they got to
go into Oklahoma, they got to play that. Then they
got to turn around two weeks and go play all
and that means more to me than anything right now.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Yeah, It's just gonna be a fucking awesome year.
Speaker 5 (48:47):
That's gonna elite quarterback play everywhere.
Speaker 7 (48:49):
It's gonna change that.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Excited to watch you guys, obviously, I'm obsessed with Nebrasket.
Excited to watch the game Cocks. Excited to see how
Tennessee is this year.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
Yeah, Yeah, Tennessee's a big question mark too. I guess
was talking. I mean you were you were actually off
the bus, you were getting him a nice gift. When
he started talking about Tennessee what he said, you have
to watch the show.
Speaker 6 (49:09):
Yeah, I was there from everything I need to hear. Yeah,
I'll watch it maybe and then sure, what.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
What are the fifty six teams? Are you going for
this year? Like draw a line in the sand? Pick one?
Speaker 7 (49:21):
We okay?
Speaker 1 (49:22):
So for we expect from you this year?
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Yeah? What we expect from Sherman? Yell?
Speaker 8 (49:26):
Yeah, so Alma monitor on the head. So obviously Baylor,
there we go. But as far as bonus teams, I
am very open. I'm looking to add maybe ten to
twelve new squads to the list. West Virginia's looking great.
Excited to see what BYU does. A lot of people
kind of sleeping on BYU. But they do bring back Retslav,
(49:46):
the Jewish quarterback that was killing that last year. So
we'll see, we'll dabble Jewish. So you're essentially a fan
of just the Big twelve. Oh now I think about it.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
That's okay. I'm just asking.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
I'm just your also fan of the Bag twelve. We're
not even mentioning ASU B twelve.
Speaker 8 (50:02):
Chancey Dillingham big fan of ASU. I really like k
State Kansas could turn it around. They did fire that
oc JP. Yeah, a lot of promise coming out of
the Big Twelve. I feel good bye. In sincerity, I
do feel very good about Baylor. I do feel very
good about Baylor. They open up the season against Auburn
(50:24):
and Waco Friday game night game, and we're doing a
blackout to open up the season.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
You love to see it, dude.
Speaker 8 (50:34):
Yeah, in Waco, in Waco, all those Baptists, they get
going crazy doing a blackout. Huh well, blackout, blackout for
the Bear set the tone it will. Yeah, And Auburn's
a kind of a dark horse team. I would say
a lot of people are saying this is Hugh Freeze
has been able to get the recruits that he wants.
(50:55):
He's got a great transfer quarterback in like it could
be a really fun matt of like a dark horse
Big twelve team and a dark horse SEC team to
kind of see how those seasons pan out. So I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
College football can't get here fast enough. I can't get
on the college football wave. Josh Pate had a response
for the Boys on his show last week. We got
to get the push up pulled in. Do we like
what he's selling? Do we like what he's pitching. So,
for everybody out there that doesn't know what's going on,
(51:30):
the back of the bus, boys, you guys send him
a tweet saying you'd love to have him on or
what did the tweet say?
Speaker 6 (51:38):
Was that I he responded to, I believe maybe a
post from you. You guys had an interaction, and then
I commented from the back of the bus Twitter which
go follow us be a TV pod sixty nine, greatest
handle ever And I said, come on back of the bus,
not busting with the boys, And then he he screenshotted
(51:58):
the bust and official Twitter account follows him Back of
the Bus pod did not, and he says he believes
in loyalty and so that there was a mistake on
are in for sure, but also you gotta just like
move with the punches because that gained us a lot
of traction on Twitter.
Speaker 7 (52:15):
We got a lot of engagement from it.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Yeah, so type shit.
Speaker 6 (52:21):
So he also said that if we make this specific
graphic tee that we made for Josh Paid that says
if you don't follow, you're fired.
Speaker 7 (52:30):
He's gonna consider coming on.
Speaker 6 (52:32):
So, yeah, we're inching towards potentially having Josh paid on,
but I think, yeah, the back of the bus needs.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
To he said, he want for the back of the
bus to make it right. He'd love to see a
push up hold competition. The guy who wins. The guy
who wins is excluded, and then the rest of the
guys who lose. Taylor and I get to select one
guy or select one guy, and that will be his
personal assistant for any time he comes in the shop.
Because there are some RUMs out there, Josh Payton busting
(53:01):
with the boys doing a couple of things together, which
would be electric because he's the best. Yeah, yeah, he's
the commissioner future. Yeah, he's the people's commissioner future commissioner
of college football and one of the best personalities, if not,
I think he's the best personality for college football out there.
But yeah, so, how are you guys feeling about the
push upolled?
Speaker 5 (53:23):
I guess I spoke out of turn when I put
my response out, nor did I watch the full video.
But for those that know me and follow me, they
know I will die for Josh Paate, So anything he
says I'm gonna agree with, even if I don't hear
the full thing. Then we got into the group chat,
and it seems like maybe they were thinking we should
negotiate a little bit more. So I put my vote
(53:43):
in that I will do what he says, but I
don't speak for the whole team.
Speaker 7 (53:47):
I should have confronted.
Speaker 5 (53:48):
I should have spoke with the team first, and then
since then there's been some brainstorming going on.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Mitch said, deal and then he got yelled at.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
So I think where it stands is we'll be putting
out a statement this week and that will hold the
contents of whatever we're going to be moving forward.
Speaker 6 (54:09):
But it'll be announced on our episode of Back to
the Bus this week, so please tune in and you
will see our response.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Mitch said Thursday at six am.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
So negotiations are still happening. It's fair to say the
process is still You got your people on, he's got
his people going. There's going to be back and forth
still to be had.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
Right, did you gotta talk about the mishap of not following,
do you guys get Yeah?
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Yeah, we went through all the context of it all.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
There's a level of U superiority syndrome or whatever it
is that's coming out of the back of the bus.
Whoever's running that Twitter. Whoever's in charge of the Twitter account.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
Who did put out the tweet? I did?
Speaker 2 (54:47):
Yeah, but the following thing is where I kind of
I get lost, Like that's a step.
Speaker 1 (54:52):
You follow pay and then you tweet. Yeah, it was
a misstep, he said, and I heard.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
I Also there's people saying out there like bust with
the back of the bus is not going to follow
the two guys at host busting with the Boys.
Speaker 1 (55:06):
Yeah, until it's like when you're listening to Pat's video
when he says that the heads are getting a little
too big, it's.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Like maybe that can't come from us, right, that can't
come from but unfortunately, like it's a reflection of us though. Yeah,
and so where do we like, do you sit back,
like if I'm your seat in your mind, do you
sit back or do you want to trudge forward a
little bit? Like, hey, we can see where since we've
done this before, Yeah, do you want to go about
it this way? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (55:33):
Because there is some thought of like they should just
have to do the push up hold.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
It's yeah, what are you negotiating? Yeah, it seems like
you guys are put yourself in this position.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
It'd be good content.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
Yeah, I don't know. I guess we'll then figure it.
Speaker 6 (55:45):
Out possably just Thursday six, hey also flips out of
the coin. Let's say we do follow him, we tweeted him.
Do you think we get the same response back? Do
you think that we get an interaction?
Speaker 7 (55:57):
All this gets swept under the rug. We don't even
meet Josh Pate.
Speaker 1 (56:01):
Yeah, I think you get a reaction from it because
he's a fan of you guys.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
Well now, he definitely is, and that kind of goes
back to Josh space video heads. I feel like we're
proving points out here, right Yeah, all good man, all good.
Speaker 1 (56:20):
Tight End you next week, can't wait, tight end you.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
Next week.
Speaker 1 (56:23):
We will be boots on the ground doing a couple
of collabs with the Boy George Kittle, I know, both
Busting with the Boys, Tighten you, both bud Light Partners
brand ambassadors.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
There is obviously we have our bet going on with
New Heights that will take place week zero and Arrowhead.
But I believe one of the hosts of that show,
one of the hosts will be coming on Busting with
the Boys.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
First Annual Trip Trip Annual Trip send him a video.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
So if you watch this video, technically you've confirmed, so
he confirmed. Yes, that was a dumb but yeah, handful
of great guests coming in for tight end you. It'll
be fun, dude, it'll be fun. We're episode to bring
you Neutral. Have you tried Neutral? If not, dude, you
are missing out. Neutral is so much better than any
other seltzer I've ever tried. It's made a real vodka
and real juice, and that's what makes it delicious. Nootral
(57:08):
comes in a variety of flavors. They got pineapple, watermelon,
and their new flavors lime and strawberry. Neutral is a
perfect drink to bring when hanging with friends, and it
is such a crowd pleaser. Neutral. Let's keep it tasty boys,
delicious stuff, perfect for the summertime. Let's get back to
the episode.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
Did you happen to see the Sorry, I'm absolutely switching
topics out.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Okay, Hey, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
Paul Craig's name written up there. But that kick over
the weekend?
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Yes, I saw the kick over the weekend and I thought, damn,
that sucks for Paul Craig and I Nothing went past
my head other than that sucks. He kicked him in
the head and he knocked him out. I sit down
with the boys this morning, JP's like, Buddy flopped. Oh
Buddy flopped, And.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Yeah, I saw Justin Gaygee tweet biggest flop in MMA history,
and I'm thinking, I'm like watching the video over and over.
I'm like, this is fucking nuts.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
And did you go to did did you see the
video before? Getchee his tweet.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
When I got on because this was this again. This
was on Saturday when the fight happened, So your boy
was locked in. I was gooning for the longest time.
So when I'm getting ready for bed and at the
top of my timeline is Justin Gage's tweet and right
under it being like, you know, talking about this moment
from the fight, and so I got to kind of
watch two and two at the same time. So I
was watching it from the lens of I want to
see this flop. So I see, oh, buddy, he catches that,
(58:29):
he catches the heel and it kind of hits him
in the throat, it doesn't really hit him in the head,
and he kind of like looks at the ref throws
his hands up and then just goes into flop motor
neck like he's knocked out. And the way he continues
to sell it afterwards, is just diabolical.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
If it is fake, diabolical, I don't I.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
I yeah, allegedly both sides kicked in, head knocked out.
Allegedly he faked it, Like I'm willing to put my
life on the line that that was fake.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
Really, yeah, because stills crawling back right now.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
Yeah, the boy he was acting like he didn't know
what was going on. The ref trying to talk to him,
and he's still like, then you see that the heel
hit the neck, didn't even hit him in the head, Like,
that's diabolical him trying to sell that.
Speaker 5 (59:10):
And it's not something that we take lightly saying that
because we respect fighters like the number one athlete that
you probably hold back on and like your criticism because
they're dangerous. Yeah, they can kill yeah, like they might
see it and pull up on you. Yeah, And so
it's like, we don't say that lightly.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
But I'm with Will.
Speaker 5 (59:27):
That was the biggest flop in the UFC.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
Yeah, because when I first saw I was like, damn,
that's crazy. Didn't look at it too much detail, But
once you said, it's all I can see now.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
With us, and these fights obviously matter for these guys
like on fight night, whether they're trying to get back
in it where they're trying to get back on a
main card like everything matters, and knowing that it was
a no contest, But it feels like something kind of
got taken from Paul there because Ol Buddy strikes him
from standing up. He tries to throw a couple of
them when they're on the ground, but he's clearly trying
to stand up again. You can see where his knees
(59:58):
on the ground. You can't really see it. He's getting up,
he's going he's sitting there for a second. He's getting up.
His other foot is on the ground to stand up,
and Paul throws that kick and it's it sucks, but
that is.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
It's such an interesting time to have that flop because
it happened in the first round. I mean, Paul is
owning that fight. But it's not like he's destroying him, right,
He's just kind of he's in charge of the fight,
pressuring him kicks, makes a couple of connections, like seems
like he's doing real well, and then that like he
(01:00:33):
must have just not been feeling if that was a flop.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
I wonder what's going on it would be interesting to
hear like what goes on in like the the war
room saying Dana Hunter, like as they're kind of talking
about how they should handle it if if it's something
to where you know, again JP, you're saying that Paul Craig,
you know, needed to win that fight, like to get
back in it or send somewhere have a different a
next path or next option. It's like, I wonder if
(01:00:57):
they sit there and they don't hold that against him
and think.
Speaker 5 (01:00:59):
Like, yeah, man, I think even still, like because Paul
Craig is in the defensive position and the other dude
for sure was in the offensive position. And I get
like not being able to kick a down opponent, but
if you're further down, I feel like it should be
legal to land that type of kick, even if they're
on one knee, Like that person's in control right and
(01:01:21):
it's not like A, I don't know, I don't think
it's dirty. It's not like an elbow to the back
of the head or a twelve to six elbow. It's
like a it's just an upkick.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
No, I agree with that because it happened when we
were in New Jersey and we were having asked old
buddy next to us, like why do they have to
stop him? Why is the point getting deducted? And he
was kind of breaking down, like you can't hit an
upkick to where any knee or anything is on the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Interesting, next time takes place, then that happens right next week.
Speaker 5 (01:01:48):
And then old buddy Chris Matino that we watched Sean
O'Malley put a punching clinic on a couple of years back,
was back this week and got knocked out.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Damn bad.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
He actually went down.
Speaker 5 (01:02:00):
Oh yeah, and it was his green hair. Yeah, the
green hair guy. He doesn't have green hair anymore. But
it was unfortunate.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:02:06):
He was fighting a dude from Atlanta and the guy
he was kind of warming up with the same thing,
but he's like one of his legs was off the
ground and he just kind of like catch him with
a hook and then boom, like you have, dude, U
f C s M Healthcare for life because it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Is yeah, that that because that fight with O'Malley, like
he it was like the Homer Simpson like he had
no defense at all. He was just hoping to god
that Sean got tired out. Yeah, and he just had
a cementtion, could not go down. That's a bummer, man,
it's a bummer the way knockouts work too, Like guys
with cementions and then they that's like kind of like
their pride. Then once they get knocked out, sometimes just
(01:02:40):
becomes a button all of a sudden, right.
Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Which is people were trying to like criticize O'Malley's power,
like this kid did it in one punch and O'Malley
landed one hundred and thirty and couldn't knock.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Him out, right, But it's like loosen up the jar,
and then somebodyeah.
Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
Like that all right, we're not about to say this
guy is shann him out.
Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
And you're trying to go out O'Malley when he's already
down the way right right now, like which I know
we talked about, but damn yeah, yeah, tough, tough slide.
I feel good. Yeah, we feel like we want to
hit the guest. I know.
Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
We got to give a shout out, no free shout
out to see TC Nashville. They gave us some carpet
for the stream room. Stream Room's coming together.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Coming together. It'll be ready for the fall. Nice little
expansion put in place, there. We got some nice little
renderings going on. Yeah, it's gonna be a fun time.
It's gonna be a fun time to check out.
Speaker 9 (01:03:28):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Will told me before we started the show he really
wanted me to make sure I mentioned this. Angel Reese
had our first triple double.
Speaker 5 (01:03:35):
So that's big second young in WNBA history.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Congrats. I know Will has been a huge fan, so
I wanted to make sure and get that out for
Angel Reese having her first triple double, that's big time.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
A But on another note, did you see Caitlin Clark's
three pointers.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Three in a row from from the logo and.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
She is might have to get that. You might take
bus and get out to a Fever game.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
I would love that if the Fever would have us.
I would love to go to a game. I don't
even I don't even know what tickets go for it.
They're probably sold out.
Speaker 5 (01:04:10):
Yeah a game got a game cock on that team
due to the Boston shout out.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
It's is crazy, Like I don't know a whole lot
about it. Like I follow some of this stuff on
on uh on X. But when Kaitlyn Clark's playing versus
not playing in sales and revenue and everything, else, it's
just nuts to think about the superstardom that she has
to where you know, you see a game like that,
those three three pointers and I'm like thinking in my head, Yeah,
it'd be sick to go watch his watch his gallon person.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Yeah, she's electric, right, People want to hate people would
be like she's People want to take away what she's
done for the w NBA, but it's very clear because
she was injured for a little bit. Yeah, and then yeah,
if you want to hear fans, stop showing up as
much like she is the main event in the w
n b A.
Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
If you want to hear the best take about Kaitlyn Clark,
go to Jeff Teague's podcast and just type in Jeff
Tigue on Kaitlyn Clark in w n B A and
you'll get exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
What you're looking for. And listen to that right after
the show. I mean, dude, we should go to a
game easy fighting, easy drive.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
I think that it says a lot about myself, Like
she's an IOWAHAKA.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Yeah, that's big of you. She's in Iowaha.
Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
Try to go to Fever versus aces Asia Wilson, who's
obviously I'm game cock but she is one of the
best players in the league. And it's always They're always
in the in the mix.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
We're in Vegas this weekend, but next yeah, next weekend.
Speaker 7 (01:05:36):
New York.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Oh that's in the heart of tight end, is it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:05:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
Day before preparing, we got them interviews in great, great
podcast with Diego Pavia. Very interesting. You will you were
not going to find another podcast of an active call
a football player being as vocal about his ambitions for
a season and this man right here, Yeah, yeah, you
(01:06:07):
will not. You will not find that anywhere else. A
lot of teams are gonna find some clips here and
they are going to put it up in their team
meeting room and circle the Vanderbilt calendar after this one.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
He was doing his best not to give right what
do they call it, bulletin bore material, bolton bore material.
He was doing his best.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
I think I get like an hour in he said
something like I don't want to give Baltimore material, and
I thought to myself, too late, Yeah, this is too late.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
This dude he grew up a wrestler and he is
through and through. He is a wrestler in a quarterback. Oh,
I was gonna say quarterback's body. But he is a
little undersized and everything. But as far as like this
is as wrestler as you get in a football player.
It's Diego Pavia.
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
I will say, if you're an offensive lineman and you're
blocking for this man, you're you're going one hundred percent
every single play. This guy, this type of get after
it mentality of the grind, the grit, all of it,
the fuck you wash me attitude is exactly what you
want an offensive lineman and means to make you finish harder.
It's gonna make you block longer. He is a he's
(01:07:05):
a players player. He's a players. So enjoy the show.
Bake hugs, Tanny Kisses. Please subscribe if you're watching this,
if you already watch all this intro, just subscribe right now.
Doesn't hurt you at all and it helps us a lot.
Big hugs, Tandy Kisses. Will last thoughts. That was great,
Thanks man.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):

Speaker 8 (01:07:48):

Speaker 2 (01:08:00):

Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Yeah, but there's somebody that's the queen of the show.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
Are you taking away from my wife's birthday?
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Not at all.
Speaker 8 (01:08:08):
There's somebody that's close to the pod. Not as close
as Saling, but close to the pod. His birthday is
this Saturday. Really arguably close.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
Actually arguably closer.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
So sum just had a birthday.
Speaker 2 (01:08:24):

Speaker 8 (01:08:45):

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Though?
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
I think housewarming? He celebrates everything.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Yeah, I think he had a five K that I
think he's doing. He celebrated at the start of a
new five K that he has is not doing, not
drinking four that he's gonna stop drinking once he does
that party.
Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
Had a celebration for the five K, had a celebration
moving into the house. I had a celebration because he
had a celebration.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Got to celebrate the small celebrations, got to celebrate those.
Speaker 7 (01:09:10):

little bit so it's easier to Yeah, squish it in.
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
Jealous.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
Hey, scoop a little icing off the top first. No,
I like the icing, yeah, but skip a little off
the top. I just want to see something. Hold it up. Oh,
come on, dig dowmb dig down in there and get
that out.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):

Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
That boy is looking in a panic mode right now.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
He's just reminded himself. He's like, just take it slow,
just chew, just chew, break it down, swallow a little
bit at.
Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
A microphone in my face. I don't have to speak
right now. I don't feel like you have to say something.
I did not like a chipmunk.
Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
You know. He's thinking. He's like, I don't have a
gag reflex. I'll be good.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
When you're done. I want a rating on that thing.
Speaker 7 (01:11:46):
M h no, no, no, cross.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
Oh my jaw started to lock up there.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (01:12:04):
Yeah they do, yes, Ma, that's that's nuts, dude, Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 10 (01:12:12):
I mean he's been all right. I think we're good.
That was a I'm surprised myself I was able to
do that. That may have been one of the best
donuts I've ever had.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
That was really good shot.
Speaker 10 (01:12:29):
No free shoutouts to Parlor Donuts. I go there every Friday,

the www dot bud light dot com slash locator to
find a store near you. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy,
just like this episode will be easy to enjoy because
we have a baller sitting with us in on the
(01:13:35):
bus right now, Diego Pavia starting quarterback Vanderbilt, true underdog mentality.
I was telling you before we got on here, like
you are the epitome of a high school wrestling state
champ that also plays quarterback.
Speaker 7 (01:13:52):
Is that a backhanded compliment?
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
No, I think it's a great compliment. I think it's
a great I think it explains everything about his game,
his antics on the field, off the field, everything you hear,
the area around the Eagle, Pavia, it makes so much
sense that he was a how like you were a
state champion. But you were kind of telling me that
you were number one in the country for for.
Speaker 7 (01:14:10):
Like fourth grade into like seventh grade, which.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
Is before puberty. So fourth grade is seventh grade. Then
everyone kind of hit puberty, and then after that it
was it was no, it's crazy to be number one
in the country. I'm just messing with you, but that
is that is wild. I feel like you are the
first generation of cats that grew up watching Johnny Manziel
like the way you play, and I mean that as
(01:14:34):
one hundred percent comment, like you talk shit, you get
after it. Dudes hit the shit out of you and
the sideline you're limping on your leg, but your boys
your offensive lines watching you limp over, they're getting they're
muscling up against other cats, and you just go in
there and you just don't give a fuck. It really
feels like it's like, hey, we got a play call, boys,
but diego at the end of the day, Like you're
(01:14:54):
gonna do whatever the fuck you want to do.
Speaker 7 (01:14:56):
I think sometimes they think that's what the play call is,
but I'm changing it, you know what I mean, So
like I just change it to what I like.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
So you you'll just go, you'll go a well and
change it to whatever you want.
Speaker 7 (01:15:08):
At times, yeah, yeah, like uh, if the play say
it's a run, play second and short, like now we're
we're deep, we're going deep.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
We get in the next play No coachwherewhere in the
time it's happening, He's like, what the fuck?
Speaker 7 (01:15:25):
Yeah? Yeah, Sometimes like they get to talk to you
now and so like on the earpiece, it's like, well, whoa, whoa,
Like what are we doing? Like he's talking to someone
else on the top, you know what I mean. But
like I can't talk back. I don't have a mouth.
He said, he can hear me. So it's just like shit,
just better.
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
Work you like you're thinking your head. You guys are
taking a little too long for my liking. Like, let me,
I'm just gonna draw something up right here.
Speaker 7 (01:15:47):
Well not he'll call a play. But it's like I
checked down and we do a number system, and so
if it's like a run, then I'm not changing it,
you know what I mean. And then sometimes he asked
me in the film, like what'd you get here? And
I'm thinking, well, I thought you said a different number.
But in reality, in my head, I'm just changing the play.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Now what do you what are you changing the play
based on? Are you looking at safety rotation? You look
at this nickel press corner over here and you're like, okay,
they'll bring a little pressure over here, or you like, hey,
it's we're here to score. We're here to score touchdowns.
I'm here to ball out coach.
Speaker 7 (01:16:19):
It's like tendency, you know what I mean, Like, oh,
first first drive against let's say they were playing Bama
first drive against BAM when they brought the house second
and short. All right, man and man, I'm expecting man
and man, let's take the top off.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
I mean we listen, we can jump around. We we
have to jump around all of your like your career,
the no offers, you have two D two offers, you
go to juco route and you jump around essentially with
kill the in your entire career. But like you did
bring up something that was that Vanderbilt hasn't done since win.
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
Ever never been never, I've never done that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
And I remember sitting at tight end, you at at
Vanderbilt's practice facility, and your boys running up and obviously
I see the offensive lineman. We wap up. You got
a bunch of cats just ripping around talking about oh shit,
we read that. I'm like, hey, this white guy, is
this guy doing right? But then they're like always starting
to hey, this Pavia kid, this Pavia kid, his kid's
the truth, blah blah blah blah. Like you get to
(01:17:15):
you get to play Alabama at Vanderbilt, it's a totally
different atmosphere. It's still an away game for you guys,
because at this point we don't have the lore of Diego,
Pavia and Vanderbilt yet, and so you have this stadium
out of construction, Nick saban or no, this is killing
de bor. They come in and you guys put on
(01:17:35):
a clinic like it's like they score, you guys go
go down the field, eight nine, ten plays, score again,
back and forth and are able to beat Alabama. Like
obviously I've known you a little bit of time, and
it's always confidence, But like, how at what point where
you're like, holy shit, we're really going to do this,
Like it's actually not talking anymore, We're actually gonna be
able to pull this off.
Speaker 7 (01:17:55):
Oh, like when we won, I would just think like
when I when we pulled the ball and I got
like a twelve yard game and then like the game
was over. But like I always thought like we could win,
like they know, like that's just how I approached the game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
Though.
Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
It's just like, uh, if you go in there with
the losing mentality, you're screwed already. And so for me,
I don't care if it's Bama, Nebraska, Michigan. We don't
say that any words.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
You get something against Michigan, I do what's up?
Speaker 7 (01:18:29):
Well, Michigan's a great school, but they should be winning
more than they should with the cap that they got.
Like de Poornoy donates to Michigan. I know, the nil
the roof. Should you not win?
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
Yeah? No, I agree, And we won seven games last
year with throwing turned off like if you're if you're
talking about, hey, there's multiple phases to an offense. You're
gonna take off probably like a fifty of an offense
and still win seven games and just not down drag
him out three yards and a cloud of dust.
Speaker 7 (01:19:02):
The running back was good, though, he should have went
higher than what he did in the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
You know, he started his first twenty games at the
University of Michigan. He was a linebacker. I we got
to make this cat a running back.
Speaker 7 (01:19:12):
He's really good.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
Yeah, he saw it.
Speaker 7 (01:19:14):
Where's he at?
Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
Now?
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Come on?
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
I think he went to the Jets. I'm not sure,
but yeah, I mean, listen, tough year. We win the
national championship. You must have forgot about that in twenty
twenty four, and then we go into this past year. Yeah,
we had some difficulties at quarterback. Not going to come
out the boys at all. We had a hard time
tossing the ball over the yard. It was bad. It
was not great. Now we got this cat, Bryce Underwood,
(01:19:37):
who apparently is the second coming. I'm a little nervous
about that, but like you've got to assume at the
very least, we're going to be a little bit better
in the throwing categories were last year. Cause I think
our defense is gonna be really good.
Speaker 7 (01:19:46):
Yeah. I think he'll be really good too.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Yeah. Have you met him before?
Speaker 7 (01:19:50):
No, I haven't, But like I've seen in some of
my boys that know him, they say he's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
Your guys's confidence is obviously very high coming off of
last year. You had an incredible year, iconic, best in
program history. Really first time you guys ever beat a
top five program in the program's history at home against Alabama.
You guys go down to Bear Bryant Stadium this year,
You in your brain, you think the outcome is going
(01:20:18):
to be the same.
Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
For sure.
Speaker 7 (01:20:21):
I have no doubt. Like we got the guys to
go do it. We got the firepower, we got the depth,
got the defense, the offense. Like we would be selling
yourselves short if if I was to sit here and
tell you, like we don't have the fait to go
win the national championship.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
You guys, are you boys are thinking natty?
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
Yeah, you guys are sitting here in your offseason program,
you're thinking national chap national championship. I don't want to
be rude. That's a that's a very high expectation for
you guys. If you guys don't want a national championship,
is that a disappointment for sure?
Speaker 7 (01:20:55):
You you win ten games in the SEC, you're in
the tournament and it's anyone's game, and you like you.
I like me over everyone.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
I love the Chip Paz on a shore when he talks,
You're like, hey, play for Vannerbilt, but like low key
what he's talking about. I believe everything he's saying.
Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
We interrupt this episode because we are sponsored by Row.
We're just coming off Follo's Day weekend. I'm sure a
lot of I'm sure a lot of wives out there.
A lot of women got their man some roast sparks,
because roast sparks are a tune one prescription treatment for
guys who need a secret weapon against softness. Roast sparks
can give guys bigger, thicker, longer erections because they get fuller, faster,

Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
Have you always had this type of chip on your
shoulder where you're like, yeah, it doesn't matter who's in
front of me, they're they're going down.
Speaker 7 (01:22:15):
Yeah, Like we were talking about wrestling, and wrestling is
a true one on one sport who's better me or you?
And so I feel like I developed it from wrestling
for real.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
Yeah, I was gonna ask too, how much do you
think like wrestling played into that. It's like, because you're right, like,
you go out there, it's one on one, the win
is on you. The loss is on you, right, and
you being as competitive as you were, like learning that
about you being number one in the nation growing up,
like he was hitting the circuits like the Triple Crown,
Tulsa Reno. We were chopping it up pretty good because
I had no clue that he that he had a
(01:22:46):
bag like that been wrestling. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, we're finding
common friends, common people that we have in common. Did
he ever come across Cody, No, because he was like,
how old was your brother? I asked how he was.
He was like twenty three. I was like, oh, yeah,
this is about a decade ago. But yeah, I was like,
you know, Cody, how we won senior nationals And he's like, again,
he was a stud wrestler, so he understands, he understands
(01:23:08):
the respect there. Yeah, he gets the game.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
You talked about being like number one of the nation
from fourth to seventh grade high school. Did you keep
wrestling all the way through?
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:23:16):
I really like took a year off eighth grade year.
I didn't. I didn't. I knew I loved I love football,
not wrestling, so I was really just focusing on football.
And then I had no offers, but I and I
still had a partial scholarship to unc H Northern Colorado,
and then after that, I was like, no, I'm still
in the state of football. Walked on in Juco.
Speaker 1 (01:23:37):
So you had a partial for wrestling Northern Colorado and
you opted to go to the Juco Roade in football
just because you loved it more.
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
Walk on football, dude, people are going People always talk
about how, like, you know, you look at a guy
like cam Woard zero offers out of high school, he's
now the first overall pick. When you are going your
freshman through senior year of high school and you're putting
it out there every single week, You're you're upsessed the football,
you love it. I'm assuming you're the same mentality you
do now, Like what level of frustration is coming to
(01:24:04):
you when you're seeing other quarterbacks probably in the same
state as You'll be like, bro, I am better than him?
Why are they offering this cat instead of me? Like
talk about like yeah, that mind frame and all that things,
because there are cats right now that are listening to
this podcast that are probably in the same exact situation,
Like I feel like, am I just delusional? I swear
to God I'm better than these other guys?
Speaker 7 (01:24:22):
Oh yeah, you see it all the time, and then
you go to camps too and you're putting balls like
in way better spots and this kid's like a four
star and you're like, what the f how is that
kid a four star?
Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 7 (01:24:32):
But like you don't want to play or hey either
and like go to coaching, but yo, what the like
why you got offering this kid and not me? But
like at the same time, like the cream rise at
the top every time.
Speaker 1 (01:24:43):
So what was the journey like when you were in JUCO,
because I want to say that there was a story
that they were kind of briefing us on that you
were still, you know, not having any offers. Did you
go to the JUCO National Championship? Yeah, so there's another
quarterback there they've played against that heah.
Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:24:57):
This is why I like JUCO too, because like the
coach there, there's a lot of politics in like D one. Now,
if who gets paid more is gonna play? And JUCO
do't matter if you're a five star, no star. Coaches
trying to make it out too, so it's best players
on the field all times. And so I transferred in
with this four star and it was me versus four
star and I legitimately beat out a four star. That's
(01:25:19):
when I knew the stars didn't mean nothing, and then
took it over. And then the next year we won
the national championship, and then I finally got I had
three offers. I had Jackson State where Dion was New
Mexico State, and then Saint Francis and.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
The New Mexico State one, because that's where you opted
to go. Was the quarterback you were facing in that
national title game. He was an offered kid from New
Mexico State. You ball out, they end up flipping.
Speaker 7 (01:25:43):
So our head coach, Coach Kill and coach Beck are
offensive coordinator. We're at Hooters in Las Cruses, New Mexico.
They told me the story, and they're at Hooters having
to be or whatever. They're hammered, and they're watching the
game the night before. They offered the other kid that
(01:26:03):
we're about to play against, and my OC knows. I
kind of like get fired up about that stuff. So
he comes to my room. He's like, Hey, they offered
the other kid, don't worry about it. Just play better
than him tomorrow. That went out there. I had like
three touchdowns two hundred and seventy yards probably like eighty
rushing beat him like thirty one fourteen or something. And
(01:26:25):
then the next day I got a call from Coach
Kill like I was offered they pulled his scholarship and he.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
Told you they pulled this kid scholarship.
Speaker 7 (01:26:33):
Yeah, they told me, like the exact story, right, yeah, And.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
Were you okay this? No, I'm thinking about it later
down the road, like what was it about Coach Kill?
Was it really at the time, just like, yo, they
offered it the Bigges school, I'm going to go there?
Or was there already a relationship kind of intact with
Coach Hill.
Speaker 1 (01:26:48):
No.
Speaker 7 (01:26:48):
I was thinking about going to Jackson State. But Dion
was so real. He was like, hey, you like, you're
not putting this ain't a fifty to fifty. My son's
playing regardless. And he said that yeah yeah, and so
even if you were better than even if you're better,
like my son's playing regardless. He's like, we're looking for
a backup. It's like if you want to come here
and be back of him, And I'm thinking my head,
like I ain no fucking backup, you know what I mean.
(01:27:09):
So I was like, I'm not going to Saint Francis
because I can't go to Lee from there, so I
was thinking in New Mexico State is my only option?
Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
Damn.
Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
What was it like getting recruited by Dion?
Speaker 7 (01:27:20):
It was pretty cool. It was short, it was short,
but he was real. That's what I like.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
Yeah, man, that is that is all. That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Yeah, I mean Dion Sander's sitting there, and for him
to sit there with all the shot Sander stuff going on,
he falls in the draft of the fifth round and
essentially you look back five six years ago. He's like, hey, Diego, like,
we'd love to have you, but like you'll be holding
a clipboard because no matter what my son's going, Yeah,
even if you're throwing dots. Yeah, and obviously the wrong
guy to tell that too.
Speaker 1 (01:27:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
Another good trip on his shoulder, right, like you got
a lie?
Speaker 1 (01:27:49):
Yeah, less truthful production.
Speaker 7 (01:27:52):
Just keep the mic close to.
Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
The production when you go to New Mexico State. Remind me,
is this when the world was starting to open up
with transferring in Nio?
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:28:04):
No, it was the year before, so it might have
been twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Yeah, because I'm asking, because I'm thinking it's.
Speaker 7 (01:28:10):
Twenty twenty two, so and I just started creeping up.
Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
So you're you're you're probably thinking, Juco, this is probably
the best route so far with New Mexico State. If
I ball out here, I can get to a better program.
Were you even thinking that yet?
Speaker 5 (01:28:22):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:28:22):
Uh, I was thinking shit, Well, I lived in New
Mexico my whole life, so it was like I wanted
to play against the Lobos, and that's our rival school
and and the Lobos. The first year I was in
no out the lineup, playing with this other kid, and
the only game I did not get to play was
against the Lobos. So the next year I was like,
(01:28:42):
this is money game played against the Lobos. There's a
little story about it that before the year I pissed
on their lobo, like the mid in the midfield of
their indoor and like before the game, no one said
anything about it, and they were using it as fuel
(01:29:04):
and they thought they were going to beat us and
then be like use it against me after, you know
what I mean. Anyway, when in there wipe them out.
The head coach was all sad and stuff, but I
really had something against them because they didn't recruit me
either out of Juco, and I want a national championship.
They were still losing and or at a high school.
So it was like real life, like beef with the coaches.
Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
It was personal for you.
Speaker 2 (01:29:25):
Yeah, so you tal those old as time. Yeah, Like
I'm from this state, I want to go to this school.
I'm assuming you want to go to Lobo. Yeah, and
then they don't offer.
Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
It's like show you Yeah, no, I gotta go piss
on their loan. What oldest time?
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
Yeah? What conversations had to take place or what went
through your brain where you're like, you know what, I
don't know how to get these boys. I'm gonna urinate
on the fifty yards thought before you answer that question.
Speaker 1 (01:29:50):
What was your strategy? I thought it would be funny.
Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
Before you answer that question. I have a question for
Will Comptent. What is Lobo Spanish for?
Speaker 1 (01:29:57):
Oh, no, clue, Lobos chicken? Now that's polo.
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
What's your favorite whoa? Oh that's a tough l for
Will Compton, the tough alfa Will conson starts now. But yeah,
what's the what's the thought process?
Speaker 7 (01:30:15):
Like there was no thinking?
Speaker 2 (01:30:17):
You don't say these guys, Yeah, yeah, that's some that's
some Blue Mountain state type ship. Johnny Man's l Blue
Mountain State, what's the old Billy Bob.
Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
Ars Varsity Blues?
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
He just put the VCR thpes and the kids like,
this is gonna be my this is what I'm doing.
So you just went and pissed the fiftyrlne How did
they find out that you did that?
Speaker 7 (01:30:42):
So the the guy who I was with, Reggie, yeah,
he he posted on Snapchat and then.
Speaker 1 (01:30:50):
So you're with You're with a buddy, and he was
like three buddies picture.
Speaker 2 (01:30:56):
His fucking cat sweatpants.
Speaker 7 (01:31:02):
I was with like three buddies and one of them recorded,
but I didn't know. And then I came back to
my phone and they're like, hey, tell Reggie take that off.
And I took it off and it was too late.
Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
They already got ahold of it.
Speaker 7 (01:31:13):
I already got a.
Speaker 3 (01:31:14):
Hold of it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
It's the News Network of New Mexico.
Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
They jumped all over that shit. Hell yeah, we'll score
that game.
Speaker 7 (01:31:21):
We beat them by like ten, okay, so you got
ten fourteen something that okay.
Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
When does it start to sink in or like when
does the conversations in thought process start to happen that
I can go somewhere else now.
Speaker 7 (01:31:33):
So what happened was at New Mexico State, we were
two and three, ended up ten and three. So like
by game we're like on a win streak and we're
about to go to the conference championship and stuff, and
so like before that, like a game before when we're
like nine and three, my coach gets in my ear like, hey,
(01:31:55):
I got a I got someone calling me from a
power for school. You'd really like it. I want you
to come with me when the season is over. It's like,
all right, bet, like this is my opportunity, you know.
And so he he's doing his thing, and then it's
our offensive coordinator. So our offensive coordinator at the end
of the season leaves and he's like, all right, I'm
(01:32:15):
going to Vandy and so he wanted me to come
with them, but coach Kills still at in Mexico State.
Then coach Kill a week later decides to retire. And
then I was like, okay, well, if I hire the
defensive coordinator, then I'll stay. Didn't hire him.
Speaker 1 (01:32:30):
That was my sign later, So if New Mexico State
were to hire the DC, you would have stayed.
Speaker 7 (01:32:34):
I would stayed.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Yeah, what was about the DC that you really they
got to hire this guy.
Speaker 7 (01:32:39):
He was real, he wasn't pay me the money I
wanted and uh shooting. He was like he was the
one who, like our defense was really good in Mexico State.
So I was thinking, Okay, well we could win here
and then there's like a chance, like how Boys State
went to the playoffs like that we'd be that team
(01:33:00):
that whole team was freaking stacked, Like we got we
got Eli, we got me Eli MK, Trent. Well, these
are just guys on the team. Yeah, yeah, I'm just
saying first names to but these guys are dogs. But
we got dogs on team. We got like seven of
the guys from New Mexico State team on the Vanderbilt team.
Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
And was there a situation where you were possibly gonna
go be a part of the wolf pack Nevada.
Speaker 7 (01:33:25):
I committed to Nevada.
Speaker 2 (01:33:27):
So this is while you're at New Mexico State going
a little visit.
Speaker 7 (01:33:30):
So yeah, I took some visits. And the whole time
that I'm taking visits, I'm like, back up my mind,
I thinking I'm going to Vandy. So the whole time
I have a notebook that I'm taking on these visits.
I really didn't know how to read a defense when
I was at New Mexico State, and I'm like just
penciling in, like just meeting with the offensive cornators how
they how they uh read the defense, you know, middle close,
middle open, blitz, how they call. And I'm just taking
(01:33:53):
a little like details away from these offensive coordinators just
in case I do go back to Vandy, like how
to clean stuff up?
Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
Okay, And this when you were looking and taking business
and thinking about Vandy was coach Kill had he not
retired yet?
Speaker 7 (01:34:07):
So he so he retired, and then I I was like,
because coach Kills like basically kind of like my dad,
and so like when he retired, I was like, you know,
I'm just go to Nevada. Like Nevada. I really like Nevada.
I like coach Choke. And then I commit that night
and I called coach Back, who's offensive coordinator of Bandy,
and I'm like, hey, like, I'm committed to Nevada, Like
(01:34:27):
I appreciate you guys. He's like, wait, wait, wait, I
got someone to call you. Coach Kill calls me, tell
me he's coming out of retirement to be basically just
be on the Vanderbilt staff and just take care of
the offense. So then my mom was like, yeah, you're
gonna go to Bandy, so that I'm going to Bandy.
Speaker 2 (01:34:45):
And have you been to Vandy at this point yet? No?
Speaker 7 (01:34:47):
It never took a visit.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
So did you you have no idea about Nashville, Tennessee
or the area or nothing like that. You know what
you saw? SEC conference? I got to get there.
Speaker 1 (01:34:57):
What'd you throw in there?
Speaker 2 (01:34:59):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:35:00):
Are you?
Speaker 7 (01:35:00):
Are you good?
Speaker 2 (01:35:01):
God? What did I say something?
Speaker 7 (01:35:05):
Do you know? The three conmerces of the NFL, A
f C, NFC, and SEC.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
But the two last national champions were from the Big ten?
Speaker 6 (01:35:16):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
But how are you gonna?
Speaker 7 (01:35:19):
But is there more in the Big Ten or in SEC?
Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
College football has to kind of play out like the
NL is established a level playing field that we all
we all sit here, we all everybody can pay players now, right,
everybody can pay players, not just one because you're right,
it is a f C, NFC and SEC, and we're
talking about pay checks. But now that everybody can pay everybody,
it's like, okay, now it's just a f C, NFC
and then the rest of college football.
Speaker 7 (01:35:42):
So do you think the Big Ten has a higher
percentage of winning it? This year, the SEC, the big ten.
Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
Big ten, the national title.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
Yeah, yeah, big oh absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
I mean you listen, you guys, you guys know.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
What you guys know.
Speaker 7 (01:36:00):
Yeah, is that double?
Speaker 2 (01:36:02):
Oh that's more than double. But if you look at
the recency like that, So those forty three national championships,
how many of those came after and I al started.
That's that's the question you gotta ask because the SEC, Yeah,
you guys would have national treatment. You guys are paying
seven figures to players.
Speaker 7 (01:36:20):
It's probably when I was in it's probably like two
and two.
Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
I don't think it is.
Speaker 7 (01:36:26):
Yeah, two and two. You're saying that didn't pay players.
Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
I know we were. This is a clean conference, clean conference,
high character.
Speaker 6 (01:36:36):
No do that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
I mean as far as I two and two, as
far as I and two, right, two and two, and
the last two have been.
Speaker 7 (01:36:44):
If we were having this podcast in twenty twenty two,
I would said the last two have been in the SEC.
Speaker 2 (01:36:49):
But we're not right if we were, if if this
is nineteen twelve, we've been talking about how the Titanic
sunk a couple months ago, Like what are you talking about? Like,
if I'd go back in time, I would invest in Netflix.
But like we're just yeah, exactly, we're living in the now. Brother,
they can talk about crazy shit.
Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
So, speaking of since the NIL era, give us your
first run in the NIL game, because clearly you had
stuff going on with either stay in New Mexico State,
I want to go to Nevada. Now I'm going to
commit to Vandy. So your first crack in the NIL game.
Speaker 7 (01:37:22):
First cracking the NIL game. I was getting paid fourteen
hundred in New Mexico State and I was per month
for the year, per month, okay, And I was pissed
because Eli Stowers was getting three thousand a month and
he played tight end and I played quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:37:36):
So your piss is on your own team.
Speaker 7 (01:37:38):
This is the internal locker room, this internal locker man,
fuck that, Like, I need to go harder, you know
what I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:37:44):
And then it all worked.
Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
And then when Nevada's recruiting you, like, what are they
telling you?
Speaker 7 (01:37:51):
Am I allowed to say that?
Speaker 1 (01:37:53):
I think? Is he not? Why wouldn't he be?
Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
I think so we could double check. But essentially, when
you were in the chancefer people come to you and
they're like, we could pay you this.
Speaker 7 (01:38:02):
Yeah yeah right, like they like they they everything you
hear on the internet.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
I don't even know what's on the internet. Yeah, it's
like when so, for example, price Underwood talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
So there's a four year, ten point two million day, right, right.
Speaker 1 (01:38:15):
Right, you learned that stuff. But it's not so you know, Candid,
that you understand what everybody makes in the NFL. So
it's more of like you're saying, it's more storytelling. So
now that you're at Vanderbilt a couple of years removed
from it, I'm just I'm truly curious, like when you're
like a new guy in that circuit, like what those
conversations are actually like and if they're real, if some
of some of it's fake, you feel like you get
(01:38:36):
lied to, and just even understanding that you had a
tied end on your team that was making more than
you and it's like gotta chip on your shoulder because
that's stuff that everybody talks about but you don't really
understand until a year and it's like, oh, that is
a real thing. So I'm truly asking, not on like
a gotcha moment, I'm just like, what were these conversations
like when you're on a lower level, how much of
that weighs into the impact of you actually going to
(01:38:57):
that school, because.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
Just put things in perspective. When Will and I put
in college, you talk about making fourteen hundred, Like I
think I got twelve hundred dollars a month.
Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
Yeah, we were in on a Skalli check.
Speaker 8 (01:39:06):
Yeah, and just a blanket statement. These are conversations that
he had with people completely separate from any universities.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Yes, yes, that's a great insurance policy because we're not
here to get anybody.
Speaker 6 (01:39:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:39:22):
I would just say, like, well, coming from that fourteen
hundred to like these other schools who are offering me
like a like a car houses in like big time money,
it's like holy shit, you know, Like it was like.
Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
That even with like Nevada and when you were coming
out of New Mexico.
Speaker 7 (01:39:40):
Yeah yeah, yeah damn. And so like obviously this last
year I didn't go into Portal or anything because I
knew where I want to stay. The most important thing
to me is like playing time and then obviously winning
a national championship when we got the guys to go
do it, so I would never leave these guys.
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
So New Mexico, when you're thinking about Nevada Vandy, is
there an amount of money that you stay at New
Mexico State, Like, has it come down to Obviously there's
other factors with your coaches. Going with the coach kill
who seems like a father figure to you. Yeah, I'm
sure they probably get a little bit that was priceless.
Speaker 7 (01:40:10):
Count that was priceless of like them obviously taking me
into Mexico State, That's like, that's priceless. And then I
would have stayed at New Mexico State for one hundred
thousand and shit. Yeah. And then at Bandy, the quarterback
they just brought in, they paid them way over one
hundred thousand, and they offered me one hundred and fifty
(01:40:32):
And I was like, well, I didn't know that, you
know what I mean, I'm going from fourteen hundred to
one hundred and fifty thousand. I'm like, oh, sign me up,
you know what I mean. Yeah, And so that's that's
how I took it last year.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
How does college football work when guys are getting paid
this much? Like do you guys have meetings with financial advisors?
Do you have people come in to be like how
do tax like do you understand taxes? These brackets? Like
do you have people that are taking care of all
this for you.
Speaker 7 (01:40:55):
Yeah, I hate taxes.
Speaker 1 (01:40:57):
Everyone does. Isn't it crazy?
Speaker 7 (01:40:59):
Brough like the minute, it's awful. Yes, but I'm gonna
I live in Nashville, Tennessee too. That's a lot of
the things that players don't get is like the taxes
here like here Florida and there's like seven states, but taxes.
Speaker 1 (01:41:12):
What else?
Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
Did he ask? Just how how the process works with
college football and like making sure everyone's.
Speaker 7 (01:41:16):
Funny act They they So Vanderbilt does a good job
of like bringing in you know, ex players or alumni
that are big time people who work in like the business,
and they come back and tell us all about it,
like we have probably eight nine meetings on it.
Speaker 1 (01:41:34):
When you were younger and coming into this new money,
was there ever like a shock or surprising moment of like,
oh fuck, I'm doing a little too much because you're
just now learning about what taxes are, financial advice, you're
starting to get maybe coach kills checking on you or
your mom right, they're like, okay, I need I wasn't
seeing this right way I thought I'd get all this.
Speaker 7 (01:41:51):
Yeah, I give it to my all to my mom
if she handles it.
Speaker 1 (01:41:55):
That's nice, that's awesome.
Speaker 7 (01:41:56):
That's so, I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
I don't.
Speaker 7 (01:41:58):
I've never touched a diamond Mini.
Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
We're not up this episode to bring you True Classic boys.
We talk about all the time. I'm truly a cartoon
character when it comes to my outfits. If it's not
True Classic, it's not for me. I put this stuff
on every single day. I look in the mirror and
I think, you know what, things aren't as bad as
you thought they were. They fit fantastic. They grabbed the chest,
they grabbed the shoulders. They give you a little bit
in the mid section. Two during the winter months when
(01:42:21):
you had that extra layer on you, but it is summertime. Boys,
Tan toder is it tatted toned.
Speaker 3 (01:42:28):
Tan?
Speaker 2 (01:42:28):
Those are the three things.
Speaker 1 (01:42:30):
Tatted tone tight, tatted tone tight.
Speaker 2 (01:42:32):
You can do all three of those things, or you
just put a True Classic T shirt on. That stuff
is incredible. You can find True Classic at Costco in
Nashville June thirteenth, which has already passed, so now go
to your go to Costco. Go check them things out.
And you can also find them at sam Clubs, Target

him for the kids and women. They got a line
launching later this year. Look Good, Play Good, We love
(01:42:55):
True Classic. Let's get back to the episode.
Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
When you go to Vandy get in the Nationhville for
the first time. You're talking all your new teammates, your
new coaches. They obviously brought in another quarterback who's making
more money than you. Like, what was your you know
first not like welcome to the NFL moment or like
welcome to the SEC, but you feel like you're in
a different league than you were in New Mexico State.
Speaker 7 (01:43:17):
Uh, I don't know if I ever had one. Let
me think, shoot, yeah, I never really had one. I said,
I've had my welcome to it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
So when you get to practice your first practice from
being in New Mexico State, go to vanderbel and SEC school,
the speed wasn't different to you. Nothing was different to you.
Speaker 7 (01:43:38):
No, I thought I was. I felt pretty good the
whole time, and then especially like taking on those trips,
like I was just studying the game a lot more.
But I would say, like maybe the workouts were like
a little bit more intense, But I think our locker
room was or our weight room was bigger at in
Mexico State, so it just gets hotter quicker and the humidity.
Speaker 1 (01:44:04):
Were you second or where were you on the depth
chart when you first got here?
Speaker 7 (01:44:09):
In my mind or other people's mind.
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
In other people's mind and other people on the whiteboard,
when you walk into the quarterback meeting room? Whatere do
you see your thing at?
Speaker 7 (01:44:16):
So I obviously I knew the offensive coordinator and he
never put us like one above the other. But I
knew I was going to win the job. Other people
thought like maybe the other kid was going to win.
But it was like you turn on the tape, it's
not in day.
Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
How quickly did you know? Because like, this kid's getting
paid more. You didn't know that at the time, but
you figure out he's getting paid more. You guys go
to spring practice. Obviously you're confident, but you're seeing this
kid throw. Was it very quickly realized? Okay?
Speaker 7 (01:44:45):
It was like it was like, oh yeah, it's it's beat.
But then it was like, okay, I need to renegotiate
my contract if I'm going to be playing over this kid.
You know what I mean? Yeah, but you can't. Yeah,
you can't really do that in the n C double A.
Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
So how do you balance all that mentally? Like not
letting your ego take over too much. Like when that
stuff is coming up.
Speaker 7 (01:45:04):
Shoot, it's like, if I really want it, then I
go to the league. Yeah, I'm gonna get paid more
in the league than in college.
Speaker 1 (01:45:11):
We have a team of of years Cade. He sit
on the back. You want to hand him a Mike Cade.
When did you know it was gonna be he Diego
was gonna win the job? Was it as quick as
he was realizing it?
Speaker 9 (01:45:22):
Yeah, it was pretty quick. And as an old lineman,
you get real close to your quarterback. I mean, everybody knows,
and I think it was honestly during summer workouts and stuff,
just we had a you know, you're you're holding arms
with everybody for team bonding, doing lunges across the field
and everyone we're all a new team. We're all trying
to figure out who's talking, and Diego gets out in
(01:45:43):
front of everyone's like like everyone shut the fuck up,
like I'm talking right now, Like you guys, this is
what we're gonna do. So then that's when it was like,
all right, like this is over before it starts kind of,
but we knew and like the first time I met
Diego he had blonde on on tips in his hand,
and this kid's either gonna be insane or we're a
(01:46:07):
little fucked. Yeah, you know, its quick as he knew it. Yeah,
for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
What's the relationship looking like from both of your perspectives
of you with this other quarterback who comes in essentially
thinks he's gonna start, and then you come in. You're
in team meetings or everyone's locked arms doing lunges, You
like this shit's not good enough or whatever the speeches?
Are you skin you seeing kind of like little friction
or are you pretty cool to the other quarterback?
Speaker 7 (01:46:30):
There's there's like that competitive friction that you have with
like everyone that you go into a new room with.
But uh, I guess I think he was like, uh,
like one time, I'll tell you this story. One time
I cracked a joke and maybe it was an inappropriate
joke and he was loving it when like he was
projected to start, you know what I mean. And I
(01:46:52):
cracked the same joke when I was starting, and then
he like texted the coaches about it and was like, hey, like, diego,
that was inappropriate a joke by him, Like he needs
to say sorry. And then like I had to call
him and He's like, bro, that was not cool, this
and that, and it was just like all right.
Speaker 2 (01:47:08):
So there's two phases that question. One, you recycle jokes, yeah,
if they're good.
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
We recycled joke.
Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
No, no, yeah, I'm around, And to like you want
to catch right there? You know what my my my
mind went to, was you important oy a couple of
years ago because you said a joke to him? Yeah,
like hey, and then at the super Bowl you did
the same thing. He was like, on your assout recycling jokes.
Speaker 1 (01:47:32):
It was the same day I went over made a
joke I forget what it was, but about like a
jacket or something. Yeah, and one of the boys was
saying about me, and they laughed. They've also kind of
heard the joke. But when the boys laughed, I'm like,
all right, I'm gonna take it to a bigger That
was gonna work. Yeah, we have more people, you know,
this joke solid.
Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:47:49):
I recycled the game with the women.
Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
Yeah, game with the women too. This ship works when
he's spent me yeah. Like and so then Dave obviously
jumps on, oh, you're recycling jokes, like that's that's.
Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
What's what you did, Like, Dave you haven't said the
same words in the same sentence before ever again. But
that's basically where I got that. What when you weren't
starting what was a joke?
Speaker 5 (01:48:20):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (01:48:22):
His uh? His girlfriend made something to eat and it
was sushi, and I was like, oh, you're having sushi
twice tonight, huh and he was he was laughing his
ass off. And then I made the joke again. I
was like, hey, what are you having again? Sushi twice?
And then that was the same joke, and he was
(01:48:43):
like all up in arms about that.
Speaker 2 (01:48:44):
Yeah, you probably gotta cut that. I feel like a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
Oh right here.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
First off, dude, I love how open you are because
you don't get a lot of quarters. But I don't
want you to sit in a team meeting a Vanderbilt
the coach be like, what are we doing?
Speaker 7 (01:48:57):
He's gone? Now, he's gone, Now he's gone. Now where's Yeah,
he's at Utah.
Speaker 2 (01:49:01):
I mean, people could look this up where he's he's
at the utes? Like people even know where this guy is.
That's crazy, that's crazy, that's fucking insane. It's uh started
starting spring camp. You're second the depth chart, throwing the
depth chart.
Speaker 7 (01:49:18):
Uh, there was like no depth chart, like we were
rotating between three quarterbacks though open competition.
Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
We're all fann and all of you guys transferring from
other schools to Vanderbilt or is there to transfer there?
He is that kid still there?
Speaker 7 (01:49:33):
Yeah, he's actually really talented. He's got a strong arm,
really good.
Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:49:37):
I think if he went to like more of a
pro style, like he'd popped more. He's really good.
Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
So why why do you think? Have you had that
conversation with him? Like yeah, he's like, hey man, maybe
you go and do this. And what year is he?
Speaker 7 (01:49:49):
Yeah, he's uh, he has two more years left, but
that Vanderbilt degree is something to him.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
Yeah, really smart kid.
Speaker 9 (01:50:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
Sure. Going like in into the year this year, were
you aware that you were going to get an extra
year at first? Like what are you hearing? You have
a you have a legendary year Vanderbilt. You guys exceeded
all expectations. You're having a hell of a run. Like
are you talking to NFL? Are you thinking NFL? Are
you thinking I want to get an extra year? There
could be a possibility, Like what was that process like
(01:50:23):
for you at the end of the season looking at
the neck this year, that we're in now.
Speaker 7 (01:50:26):
Yeah, well we beat we beat uh, so we're tuned too.
Then we beat Bam and then we beat Kentucky and
then like Kentucky game, I got kind of hurt. That
big motherfucker Deon Walker just sat on me and it
was like all right, and then I'm kind of like
straggling out the whole year. And so when it was
brought up to me that I could play possibly play
(01:50:47):
another year, I was like, oh, yeah, let's do it.
So then I just it got filed and had a
really good lawyer and everything worked out.
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
It wasn't like were you you weren't even considering the
potential or maybe looking around for the next level.
Speaker 7 (01:51:03):
Yet, No, I was. I was asking, like coach Lee,
like about agents and things like that and what the
you know, scouts are saying and what they wanted to see.
But it was just I think in my favor to
get two years under the SEC under my belt and
then you know, we win the National Championship and I
win the Heisman, then there's no there's no reason why
(01:51:26):
I don't get drafted first.
Speaker 1 (01:51:27):
Round based on the feedback that you heard from the
next level, Like what chip on your shoulder do you
have now, Like what what things were you hearing?
Speaker 7 (01:51:34):
They said, I need to get uh maybe better as
a passer, say in the pocket, don't leave as much
and so I need to work the pocket more.
Speaker 2 (01:51:44):
Okay, do you agree with that criticism or do you
think you really well, I.
Speaker 7 (01:51:49):
Could get better at everything. But I mean we had
a lot of a lot of play calls to you know,
roll outside the pocket for you know, they got the
like Dylan Stewart, off the edges is really.
Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
Good, James Pearce is off the edge is really good.
Speaker 7 (01:52:05):
So I think doing little things to make sure those
guys get off my back and then just letting me
make plays that I fel like that's where I'm best
at making plays.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Yeah, improv Yeah, improvisation on the field. Ye when did
you realize that you had that capability to take the
x's and o's of a play that's drawn up a
certain way and a whiteboard, but you can extend plays
and figure it all out.
Speaker 7 (01:52:28):
Little league football. I have some pretty nice tape in
little league football. Nasty, yeah, some nasty tapes. But I
think that's when I figured it out. And then just
having the confidence that I do and then installing it
in like the guys around me, and then you become unstoppable.
Speaker 1 (01:52:45):
How as a guy who's pissing them on a logo
back in New Mexico State and you have, you know,
the stories of the ago and all the fun that
you have on the field, shit talking and everything else.
How do you feel like you've approached maybe this year,
whether it's a little bit differently because you could be
(01:53:06):
going to the professional level and you being a little
bit more conscious about everything that you're doing. Do you
feel like you've had, you know, a moment to where
you've kind of reflected on things and thinking like, hey,
the act is awesome, it's a lot of fun, but
I also got to kind of put my head down
to work a little bit more because it is a
bit of an uphill battle at times.
Speaker 3 (01:53:21):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:53:22):
Yeah, I've actually done a lot of reflecting on how
I could get better. One is being in the training
room more. I'm always around the facility, Like I get there.
I wake up at five every morning, wake my bed,
you know, pray to God, and then at like I'm
in the facility by about six fifteen, and I don't
lead to about six, so I'm just doing everything I
(01:53:44):
can possible to stay healthy for the season. Another thing too,
was like sometimes when I say I would party, I
mean that I would have a good time, you know,
laugh with my friends. I don't. I rarely drink. I'd
be lying upy, I said I didn't drink, but I
rarely drink. And so like those staying up late affecting
me for Sunday, which roll over to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
(01:54:07):
and then it was just like a trickle effect. Yeah,
so like I feel like, uh, Sunday, once I get
home after the game, I needed, you know, stretch, get
in my little thing after the game on Saturday, and
then be ready to go for the next week.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Yeah, it's got to be hard to when you're when
you're doing things at Vanderbilt that haven't been done in
a long time. You're essentially reviving an entire you know, program, and.
Speaker 1 (01:54:28):
Guys are carrying the goal post down.
Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
That was where I was going to good and go
with that, Like you beat Alabama and you take the
goal post and you march that thing all the way
down to the Cumberland River, Like what where were you
doing that? You are you rushing the field? Get in
the locker room, like, hey, let's speed up this speech.
I gotta go a little bit of fun because that's
a long ass way down the Broadway.
Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 7 (01:54:51):
My My brothers and my family are like really crazy,
like crazy in a good way. But like and I'll
tell you guys the story how crazy they are. But
like they were like, bro, hurry that ship up, like
we gotta fucking bounce. We They literally Sunday the day
after they literally opened the bar and ended the bar
like until it was closed. And it was just like, bro,
(01:55:13):
these guys are wild, you know what I mean. So like,
obviously you want to join them in stuff, but you
got responsibilities. So that's what makes it. Like, that's what
makes it hard. Obviously they're only in town for like
a few days and then they go back. Yeah, but
I mean we had some really good times this year
for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:55:29):
How was that night? Kay, you can talk about it too.
But the night you guys do beat Alabama and take
them down and the city is just absolutely on fire.
Speaker 7 (01:55:39):
Uh we all went to Broadway.
Speaker 1 (01:55:41):
Let's pretend we're all retired. Just pretend we're all retired. Sure, Yeah,
relived the glory day taking down the Crimson Tide, just.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
A team that's won, you know, forty one of those
forty three national championship, like.
Speaker 7 (01:55:57):
It was a good time.
Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
You get the twelve yard game.
Speaker 7 (01:55:59):
The game is games, manor beilt.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
Fans are on the fields they dude, Hey, let's live
in reality. Like you guys are playing away games at home,
and that's changing because of you guys. Visit thirty five,
Like people are juicy.
Speaker 7 (01:56:15):
Fucking Look at that kid he's getting after right there.
I love it, dude, seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
This kid seventeen's got the same size legs as me.
He's getting after it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:24):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
But I'm just saying, like these fans storm the field.
You are you are now probably realizing like we've done
something for the first time ever. Yeah, but this is incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:56:34):
But as far as were you winning just a fucking
massive game, the vibes are absolutely psychotic.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
Psychotic.
Speaker 7 (01:56:39):
I really didn't. I really didn't. It didn't hit me
until like a week a week after like like maybe
we have to beat Kentucky or something like. It really
didn't hit me until then. But that night was it
was jumping for sure. I mean, we we went all
went to barstool. The whole top was rented out for
us so late that night and then they thought we're
(01:57:01):
gonna lose to Kentucky. Beat them the next week too,
but it that's that's when I got hurt. But I
feel like God kind of gave me a signal right there.
It was like, hey, you can't just go out and
party when you have a big wins, Like I'm gonna
give you more big wins. Just you can't part like that.
And so that that's like for this year, you know
(01:57:22):
what I mean, That's why he gave me another year.
Speaker 1 (01:57:24):
Yeah, so it's like, get it right this time. I
was the experience from from your vantage point, because you know,
offensive linemen, they're like, we're getting the fuck we're getting
after this.
Speaker 9 (01:57:32):
But yeah, it was good.
Speaker 1 (01:57:36):
I don't even know if he knows this, but I.
Speaker 9 (01:57:39):
Lasted an hour and a half at the bar, like
it was a quick night for me and that doesn't
happen very often. And so I was getting after it
pretty hard, but not like the field rush stuff. Like
he was probably the calmest in the huddle, which is surprising.
Once he got that first down, it was there was
some kind there were some antics on the field everybody
(01:58:00):
knows about, but uh, we were kind of the all
the huddle.
Speaker 1 (01:58:03):
Abou when no buddy did the shove or kicked the ball,
hit the ball, we had the ball, kid.
Speaker 9 (01:58:07):
Yeah, yeah, the push in the face. And I had
only played that drive, Like I sat for three and
a half hours the whole game and then got in
on the on the four minute drive to get the
first downs and win the game against the number one
ranked team, and I was like, oh shit, like, you know,
my knees hurt, already hitting in the stance, yeah, and
so all the antics whatever. He gets the first down,
(01:58:29):
face pushed in the ground. I kind of ran after
it a little bit, but like we got back in
the huddle, he's like, all right, lright, alright, like we
got to get this snap. We got to get this
snap because it's victory. And he was the most calm one.
And then the field rush went to the locker room
and everyone's like in the locker room, like all right,
let's let's get out of here. We got some stuff
(01:58:49):
to handle.
Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
Yeah, dude, talk to me about the emotion of a
field rush, Like as a player, I only had to
experience that, I think one time, and that's when we
beat Ohio State and it is like the most electric
feeling in the entire world. When all the fans are
on the field, they're jumping, they're grabbing e, they're pulling you.
You essentially feel like like the biggest star in the
world for a moment. Like, what was that like for
(01:59:13):
you guys?
Speaker 7 (01:59:14):
It was nuts? I had all my boys there too.
I wasn't trying to lose that football right there. And
then uh n I l Now like I my jersey
sold for like forty thousand that jerseys.
Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
Yeah, why don't you keep the jersey? Huh?
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
I should have? You know the guy that has it though, right? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:59:44):
Yeah, it's what like it's one of those guys that
I though, and he's good people do.
Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
He's a good guy, good enough guy to give it
back to you.
Speaker 7 (01:59:52):
Uh, there's one one way to find out.
Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
Yeah, yeah, I checked for forty one thousand dollars. Good man?
Speaker 1 (02:00:02):
What uh? What was for you your best freestyle, most
memorable style play for yourself where you kind of went
off the went off the whiteboard and made something happen.
The coaches weren't expecting it.
Speaker 9 (02:00:15):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (02:00:16):
At New Mexico State, we're playing against UTAB and it's
like two minute drill and I call my own play
and I do all berts and I'm thinking I'm about
to hit this seam up to Eli, but like the
safety closed it, so I spin out. I'm rolling left
full speed. This kid comes our boy, so if we're
going that way, he comes back and then goes back
(02:00:39):
and I do like a forty yard dime on the
money over the shoulder and he just he just gets cracked.
Speaker 1 (02:00:45):
Let's fucking go, dude, what kay for you? What's this
man like in the huddle? Any moments that stand out?
Speaker 9 (02:00:56):
Yeah, So my first play of the Alabama game like
stands out to me of all of them. We're on
the goal line and we're running one of our our
goal line run schemes and it's a two play scheme,
so we're either running one player or the other, and
we hear it. Because of the cadence, we know which
play we're running. And it was my first play of
the game. And he's tired as hell from the you know,
(02:01:18):
the drive before, and so he's like break and I
was like, all right, So I kind of just followed
the guy I knew I needed to follow, and uh,
I think I just down blocked because I didn't know
the play. But that's normally like how he is is
normally really calm, normally really collected, like all right, guys
(02:01:39):
like got to get the first year whenever, pretty this
quarterback stuff. You know, they got to command the huddle.
But that play stands out to me just because he's
spitting everywhere, and you know, I had no idea what
the play was.
Speaker 7 (02:01:50):
Got to get the ship out and make some checks
when we get to the line.
Speaker 1 (02:01:53):
Do you have uh, do you have moments that stand
down in the huddle?
Speaker 7 (02:01:58):
We have a We have a funny guy who like
talks ship. His name is Chase Mitchell, but he stutters
a lot, so he's like that, boy, you go fuck
with me. But like so that I'd just be laughing
and then like U, but nah, I'm usually like pure
(02:02:20):
business trying to get the guys in and out, so
I like, make checks.
Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
It's game time.
Speaker 7 (02:02:25):
This shit ready to go.
Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
How much after the year was the portal blowing up
for you on potential teams wanting you to come be
the quarterback for them at a different school A lot?
Speaker 7 (02:02:35):
It was like, Yeah, it was less reaching out to me.
It was like more reaching out to like my brothers
and my family and stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:02:42):
Was there a dollar amount that you heard that was
like holy shit?
Speaker 7 (02:02:47):
Uh yeah, I don't know if I'm supposed to share
with like anywhere from like four to four point.
Speaker 1 (02:02:53):
Five to leave and go somewhere to leave?
Speaker 2 (02:02:56):
What conference?
Speaker 7 (02:02:58):
SEC?
Speaker 1 (02:03:00):
In conference?
Speaker 2 (02:03:02):
In conference?
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
Any Big ten teams trying to get you.
Speaker 7 (02:03:06):
You want to play with the best. You don't want
to play with the Big ten. You ignore those Class.
Speaker 2 (02:03:14):
Two national titles, your calls, you know that, the whole.
Speaker 7 (02:03:20):
But you got to think about this, dude. The SEC
is like nothing like Okay, the Big Ten you have
like the house state Oregon. It's Michigan, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan,
Penn State.
Speaker 2 (02:03:35):
Yeah you believe after this year in Nebraska, I got
your kids.
Speaker 1 (02:03:41):
Yeah we will see, but.
Speaker 7 (02:03:44):
You got all dogs. So like you really only have
four games a year like the SC it's like week
after week after like you're gonna get beat on like
the Big ten. You ain't gonna get beat on with
like the.
Speaker 1 (02:03:56):
Dude, Like that's a bullshit comment, like week after week,
Like that's that's that's real.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
Though.
Speaker 1 (02:04:06):
Listen, I'm here to have a I'm here to have
a clean podcast, not here to talk too much ship.
To start it off, I don't want to. I don't
want to shoot on any SEC teams. But you guys
would have your hands full of Illinois.
Speaker 7 (02:04:20):
Oh yeah, Illinois is a good team.
Speaker 1 (02:04:22):
Yeah they are.
Speaker 2 (02:04:22):
Yeah, it's a good ball club. What about us?
Speaker 1 (02:04:25):
Yeah they are, Buddy U s C. Yeah, USC is
a tough team. I haven't Washington, Washington, Iowa.
Speaker 7 (02:04:35):
You're gonna you've gotta score seven points it beat Iowa.
Speaker 1 (02:04:39):
It's gonna be a tough seven.
Speaker 2 (02:04:43):
Guys. You guys program Iowa resurrected an extinct cornerback Like
that is you want to talk about who can achieve more?
I mean there's a there's a cornerback in the NFL
that's white right now.
Speaker 3 (02:04:55):
I know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:04:57):
I know a couple of them.
Speaker 1 (02:04:58):
Forget about Riley Moss.
Speaker 7 (02:04:59):
Now, Regenia is good. You know, ship, But I'm saying,
like you have to like the trenches too. There is
different the trenches. No, let's think about this. You wout
the fall are from the SEC except like abdo card
like you'll find one, like you'll have one or.
Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
Two third overall pick this year.
Speaker 7 (02:05:23):
Yeah, but like you got if the kid from South
Carolina could have left, you would have been a first
round pick.
Speaker 2 (02:05:31):
Yeah. Yeah. We saw him at a media day is
the Super Bowl? He he looked the part, Yeah, he
looked the part. Who was who was? In your mind?
The best defense he played against all year.
Speaker 7 (02:05:43):
The best defense Texas.
Speaker 3 (02:05:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:05:47):
I was at that game. Bummed you guys couldn't make
it out.
Speaker 7 (02:05:50):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that kid, Michael taff Is, he's good.
He's like an elite. You know those white kids who
are gonna be the right right play, right time.
Speaker 2 (02:06:01):
It's that kidder is always going to be in the
right spot. Great technique, great technique.
Speaker 7 (02:06:06):
Yeah, well he'll be perfect, perfect sound perfect.
Speaker 2 (02:06:10):
I will say this, I thought, man, that Asu Texas
game in the playoffs, I thought, as you should have
won that game. They should have won that game.
Speaker 7 (02:06:17):
I don't like how people should on Quinn the ewers Quers.
Speaker 2 (02:06:20):
I don't like that either.
Speaker 7 (02:06:21):
Quinn Hewers is a solid quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:06:24):
Yeah. I don't think anybody was saying that we I
don't think we were shopping on Quinn.
Speaker 2 (02:06:27):
No, no, no, no, I'm just saying like, I think
he's just bringing this out of his own back. He
thought about this for a minute. He's like, I got
to make sure I say this.
Speaker 7 (02:06:33):
Yeah, no, no, like he went seventh the round like
he should have. You got to thinking about Texas before Quinn,
you know what I mean, Like they were winning too
many games. Then Quinn goes and now they're in the
like possibly the championship if he doesn't get strips sacked right.
Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
Right against a Big ten football team here he goes,
I'm just dude, I mean fact, that is the fact
against a d ND who was drafted in the third round.
Speaker 1 (02:06:59):
He's good.
Speaker 7 (02:07:00):
There's a lot of good players in the Big ten too,
I don't know, like more, there's some.
Speaker 2 (02:07:05):
Good ball plays in this seed. There's no doubt about it.
I'm what the main thing is is now that everybody
can get paid. We definitely equalized.
Speaker 1 (02:07:12):
There's a lot more parody in the game now.
Speaker 7 (02:07:14):
Yes, absolutely, it's two and two, so it's equal right now,
as we'll.
Speaker 2 (02:07:18):
Find out this year, that's right, Vanderbilt twenty twenty six, right,
I guess it would be twenty twenty six.
Speaker 7 (02:07:24):
National chaps in Miami.
Speaker 1 (02:07:25):
What are your Obviously there's a lot of discussion around
the College Fable Playoff in the format, like what would
you what would be your critiques for the College Fable Playoff.
You want to see it go to sixteen.
Speaker 7 (02:07:34):
I think that the as you see in the Big
Ten should obviously get the four bids regardless, and then
they could do whatever they want from there.
Speaker 1 (02:07:42):
And you like, you like how they structured it as like,
you know, if you win your conference, you don't automatically
get it by they're kind of just they're kind of
seed it true now right, yes, yeah, I like that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:07:52):
I think the biggest end needs to change is right
after conference championships, you go right in two the next
the first round, ye not have don't need this three
weeks or whatever it is, Like, let's have all of
December and let's knock this shit out.
Speaker 1 (02:08:06):
Is this their schedule right here? Sure? How do you
feel about your guys' schedule this year? You got Great
South Carolina, Alabama at South Carolina, at Alabama, Virginia, we.
Speaker 7 (02:08:17):
Got Charleston Southern, we got Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Georgia State,
Utah State, every game any given Sunday, editing Giving Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:08:25):
Really, I mean what happened in Georgia State. How you
guys put on a season like that last year?
Speaker 7 (02:08:31):
And you have a you know the lapses that you
guys did, and shit happens. They came out and they
punched us first, and then we had to lead like
seventeen seconds up to go and do a bomb touchdown.
I guess sixty yard bomb. We have about like three.
Speaker 1 (02:08:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:08:55):
When you look at the schedule, like you said, you know,
every single week you're going at it all ball. You
gotta play at Alabama, at Tennessee, at Texas, at South Carolina,
at South Carolina, sandstorm, sandstorm plan that place gets rowdy,
sleeper place to play, sleeper place. How many of these
(02:09:17):
games are you coming out? Twelve games.
Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
That I was thinking about asking, but since he said
National Championship earlier, I'm like, he's gonna say.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
Twelve and oh yeah, who do you okay? Who do
you think is which one of these games is? Like?
Speaker 3 (02:09:29):
Circle?
Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Do you like this is? I gotta make sure I.
Speaker 7 (02:09:32):
Don't want to give the pony no field? What do
they see that?
Speaker 2 (02:09:34):
I think at this point we've already gotten past that.
Speaker 1 (02:09:37):
I think I think every school knows they need to
have their cameras on at all time. Yeah, if Diego
is in town.
Speaker 2 (02:09:42):
The day before game, game three, Game three. Oh do
do we say it? I don't even know we can say.
I mean people can go look South Carolina, this is
a podcast. It'll be out to the world.
Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
They'll be tough this year.
Speaker 3 (02:09:58):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:09:58):
Yeah, he got a squad.
Speaker 2 (02:09:59):
I mean after what you do to Alabama too, Like,
you better keep your head in a swivel down in Tuscaloosa.
I don't know. If you like you, there's a chance
you might not make it to the game. The fans
go crazy out there.
Speaker 7 (02:10:08):
Yahel, I got my brothers with me. We're good.
Speaker 1 (02:10:11):
Do you feel like you feel like you guys have
more respect in college football right now? Like, do you
feel like there's a little bit more pressure that's kind
of come with this year?
Speaker 2 (02:10:20):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (02:10:22):
Nah, Like it's just as long as we get better
in our like detail, we'll be fine. Like we're really
just worried about us right now, Like we don't really
care about what other people say or anything like that.
Like everyone's just focused internally.
Speaker 1 (02:10:34):
Yeah, people could be San Diego. One one hit wonder,
one good year might be all he has. Right, We're
gonna put him in his place this year.
Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
There's enough film on him, we see who does we
know tendency to shut him down. Right, gets a little
loose with the ball and he rolls out to the left.
Speaker 1 (02:10:49):
Yeah, he's probably gonna try to stay in the pocket
a little bit more this year because he's been here
in the fluff at the next.
Speaker 2 (02:10:54):
Time scouts say you have to sit in the pocket,
don't worry, we'll condense the pocket, contain rush him. This
game's at the middle.
Speaker 1 (02:11:00):
From Juco and New Mexico State.
Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
Right, boys, the kids from New Mexico. Well, you can
count on your hand how many guys have come out
of there. Yeah, that's what they're saying in team meting
rooms right now that you circled and it's it's a
picture of frosted tips too, It's not it's not this diego.
Speaker 1 (02:11:15):
Yeah, how many things, guys? How many teams are in
the SEC? And right now it looks like your guys's
power rankings in the SEC. You're you're predicted at thirteenth.
Speaker 7 (02:11:23):
It's probably some fat guy who sits on a computer
all day.
Speaker 1 (02:11:27):
Damn. Josh Paid is in good shape.
Speaker 2 (02:11:32):
Josh Paid is He's got the shoulders in the chest
on him.
Speaker 1 (02:11:37):
So what do you think about when you see stuff
like that? Like I know it's just noise. But when
you're at home and you're kind of going through some
of this ship.
Speaker 7 (02:11:43):
I really don't I've never seen the sight before.
Speaker 1 (02:11:46):
What is this seven?
Speaker 7 (02:11:50):
It's two first seven? We used to have, uh, our
guy Barton Simmons used to works for two percents, but
like I don't mistake him for it because like real
players up too. So let'll just find out after do.
Speaker 2 (02:12:04):
You talk to me about the sea on your chest?
Speaker 3 (02:12:06):
The sea?
Speaker 2 (02:12:07):
The sea captain going from the Mexico State transferter Vanderbilt.
You're earning these guys trusts? What was that process like
for you?
Speaker 7 (02:12:16):
It was actually really dope, Like, uh, you know, taking
out the alignment to eat and stuff is uh, is
really cool. And then you like just knowing the guys,
like everyone comes out from like a unique background and
you find out like things about these guys, like you
know some of them well now like a lot of us,
uh not us. I don't have a kid, but a
lot of them have kids and stuff, and you gotta
(02:12:36):
meet their kids and bring them around and this, like
it's just really cool to like earn their trust.
Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
Where are we taking them? Could could he do better?
Could he do better? On how you treat you guys.
Speaker 7 (02:12:52):
Have you heard a mile? Yes, we went to single
a mile. We went to Singo to mile twice and
then we were supposed to edit go to Eddie V's
this past weekend, but not a lot of the guys
could go.
Speaker 1 (02:13:06):
So you haven't gotten these boys a little room. It
came prime or up up at Bourbon Steak. I'm trying
to work for you right now.
Speaker 7 (02:13:12):
Can I told you other schools were offering me a
four million, not bandy? You said, what other schools were
offering me four million?
Speaker 1 (02:13:18):
Not bandy?
Speaker 7 (02:13:20):
Dude?
Speaker 1 (02:13:21):
Hey legit? So we ever flirting with the idea leaving Vanderbilt?
Speaker 7 (02:13:26):
No, I never flirted with it.
Speaker 2 (02:13:28):
Maybe for a moment, one moment you saw the number.
Speaker 7 (02:13:32):
I mean the number. The number is great, Like the
numbers are great, but like winning is is more important
to me than anything, and we got the squad to
go do it.
Speaker 1 (02:13:41):
When you're breaking it down with your agent or whoever
your representation is, or you're talking with the coaches, how
uncomfortable does it get at times? Like you you might
hear the rumors are four million, and it's like, you know,
we're all in the game of business. A little bit
more now, and it's like you want to leverage the number?
How much should I try and leverage the number and
get to a spot that I feel comfortable. I don't
want to piss anybody off off, Like how is that
(02:14:01):
going for you mentally when you are in that process
of potentially, you know, them feeling like you could potentially leave.
Speaker 7 (02:14:07):
Right, it was It was difficult for sure, because like
you got coach Kill and Coach Beck like relying on
you to come back, and then but it's like all
the money game and then like you got other schools
offering you four million and they don't want to pay
you four million, but you're like all right, but like
you took a chance on me, so like I understand that,
(02:14:27):
And then freak, I was going to say something too,
like uh, they they told me the things that I
wanted to hear of how they're gonna build the offense.
You know what receivers are gonna go get And they
were telling me like we could pay we could pay
you that, but we're not gonna have enough money to
(02:14:49):
go get these guys to go throw the ball around.
And it just made sense to me, like, man, I
value winning over anything else so how like perfect, How.
Speaker 1 (02:14:58):
Well did they do going and getting some of the
pieces that they were talking to you about really good?
Speaker 7 (02:15:02):
Yeah, I guess like playing with a new toy every day,
you just throw the ball as far as you can.
You have some fast little black kid just fucking catch it.
Speaker 1 (02:15:13):
Washington Post is gonna salvate over this.
Speaker 2 (02:15:16):
Washington Post, New York Times. I got him again. Yeah, dude,
Jerry Kill, you talked about him being like a father
figure to you. What about Jerry Kill was like it
helps you guys connect so much, And do you have
like a Jerry Kill story that you're like this dude's
the fucking man. Kate was telling me. He offered me
he was in Nevada when I was high school.
Speaker 7 (02:15:35):
No, No, that was coach k coach.
Speaker 2 (02:15:37):
Yeah, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 7 (02:15:38):
This guy's this guy's a nut job. Like he's just
one of us, just the older version, you know what
I mean. He don't care what anyone thinks about him.
He don't care about anything I would say. In New
Mexico State when he was the head coach, like he
had all the power in the world. Like I remember,
this is this story exactly. We're in like a like
(02:16:00):
a team meeting, and after that it was like the
first day of fall camp, getting done team meeting. We
go out there and you know, we get done practicing.
This kid has a full body cramp and he's like,
where's the fucking trainer at And the trainer didn't have IVS.
They couldn't give ivs for some reason New Mexico State.
He fired the trainer, the equipment staff, and uh, like
(02:16:26):
one of the board of directors at New Mexico State
that day. And then like he was like having to do,
he hired basically the coaches to like serve out equipment,
hired people just to like give out water and stuff.
So he fired someone like on the spot that day, first.
Speaker 2 (02:16:42):
Day because the guy was catching a full body cramp
and there's nowhere to say.
Speaker 7 (02:16:44):
It, and there was no no one to give him
an IV man at least have.
Speaker 1 (02:16:48):
Some pickle juice on you or something, you know, But
he's just anytime I hear body cramp, I just think
of the story of, Uh, there's a guy in the
locker room who just as a joke kept a box
of car in the locker and somebody's like, hey, why
do you keep a box of counters in the locker
and he just looked over and he goes, you never
know when somebody's gonna catch a full body cramp and
(02:17:09):
be spas on the locker room floor.
Speaker 7 (02:17:12):
What the fuck?
Speaker 2 (02:17:16):
Just the glimpse inside of the locker room, folks, that
is a wild story. Wild The full body crams there
are just awful.
Speaker 1 (02:17:24):
When you reflect on just your entire journey, like again,
underdog story, Juco Route no offers, small schools, go to Vanderbilt,
all of this stuff you were talking about wrestling earlier,
but overall, like a general like a general thought, when
you pull yourself out, what do you feel like separate
you mentally in the details when you look back, whether
(02:17:45):
it's playing through injuries or examples you see from other guys,
Like what things do you feel like have separated you
mentally to get in the spot that you're in now?
Speaker 7 (02:17:53):
When I when I turn on the tape, and I
want people to know that I'm the you know, the
best person ever touched like the blade of grass, Like
I'm going to be the best no matter what. When
you turn on the tape, it's like, Okay, this kid
right here is the best player on the football team
right here, both sides of the ball. And so that's
that's what I want, is just not even be like compared.
(02:18:15):
I want to be good on it. It's like one
of the greats. Like I feel like I have that
Mama mentality of three workouts a day or else you
like cheated yourself.
Speaker 1 (02:18:25):
When you look back and think if times were extremely
hard and you possibly thought I'm never quitting, but where
you doubted yourself and everything else, Like is there a
moment or a phase of life that kind of stands
out that you fought through that you look back on,
You're like, I'm fucking happy I pushed through that moment.
Speaker 7 (02:18:40):
Yeah, Juco was hard for sure, Juco COVID. You know
there's only two people allowed in a dorm probably this big,
maybe even smaller if you cut this down, and you
know it's you and your guy, and it's just the struggle,
like you weren't able to leave, no one could see you.
(02:19:02):
And then those those times were tough, you're wringing out
five am. But then like you think about it, like
you're you're with your brothers to the grind, So it's like, cool, who.
Speaker 1 (02:19:09):
Are you leaning on? In Like those times like are
you somebody who like you know, you're scrolling and consuming
videos or you're reading something. Is it your mom, is
it your staff when you're kind of having those moments
of hey, I need to feel like I needed some
inspiration or motivation.
Speaker 7 (02:19:24):
Honest truth. Uh my ex girlfriend was like, shit, she
don't want me, bet I'm gonna go harder. And it
was just like I'm super serious, like in Juco and
still like to this day, Like my boy uh my
boys would tell you, like it was like once I
(02:19:44):
got under that bar, it was like it was beef.
You know, obviously not with my girlfriend, but like like
it was like fuck, like shit, she didn't want you,
like take that shit personal. But that's one of the
reason why I go so hard too.
Speaker 2 (02:19:58):
I feel like the mentality of the athlete, but it's
taking whatever happens in your life that didn't necessarily go
your way. Big ways are little ways, but it's like,
all right, at that to the tank, that's that's true.
Speaker 7 (02:20:11):
That's how I look at it too.
Speaker 1 (02:20:12):
I feel like he's got the most wrestling brain I've
ever seen a player. Yeah, a football player.
Speaker 2 (02:20:18):
If you don't want me put a forty five, she said,
what we.
Speaker 1 (02:20:24):
Were laughing about you know how those like you know
how wrestlers just get down and just go hard their
house parties. Whe they're in their shirts off, they got
the bandannas on.
Speaker 3 (02:20:31):
They might.
Speaker 1 (02:20:31):
You know, there's a few guys got their girlfriends in
there and they're just you know, making a beer punk shot,
just just overly, no reason.
Speaker 2 (02:20:40):
She's got her next all up.
Speaker 7 (02:20:42):
After everything they do, they go hard.
Speaker 1 (02:20:43):
Yeah, that's your boys, and you start getting in over
all of a sudden your hips are back.
Speaker 2 (02:20:48):
Is out to see just when they think that takes place, yea,
still got it.
Speaker 1 (02:20:53):
I see.
Speaker 2 (02:20:55):
How do you think he's fair in wrestling right now?
Speaker 7 (02:20:58):
The way a man? Probably not, But I would like
go down like one to seventy fours and then do
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (02:21:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:21:03):
Yeah, you think you'd have been a good wrestler in college? Yeah,
but I didn't because you were were used to. You
were a state champ, right.
Speaker 7 (02:21:09):
Yeah, state champ my senior year. Okay, yeah, but I
didn't love it.
Speaker 1 (02:21:15):
Yeah, he knows some of these shots.
Speaker 2 (02:21:18):
I like you.
Speaker 7 (02:21:19):
Arizona. Everything's like right next to New Mexico.
Speaker 2 (02:21:22):
Yeah, but it's well, I mean, we can the population
is like more than double and we also have like
a better sports state baseball football that's just fat. I
mean New Mexico.
Speaker 1 (02:21:36):
I we might be better at baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:21:39):
I don't know, bro, like Arizona cats play ball out there.
That's a year round. I mean just like New Mexico,
but like cats come out of there. Even hockey, now
we had hockey players.
Speaker 7 (02:21:47):
What about wrestling, I think we might be better.
Speaker 1 (02:21:49):
I think you might.
Speaker 2 (02:21:51):
Baseball, Soccer, I'm not very uh I could see soccer,
I'm not. I'm not up to date on like wrestling.
My wrestling education comes through Will Compton.
Speaker 1 (02:22:05):
Like that.
Speaker 2 (02:22:05):
I see that he talks about Cody. I just I've
wrestled all three times. I've lost every time.
Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
We'll be in there watching March mad It will be
in there watching March Madness, and I'll have the the
of the wrest the years. Yeah this year.
Speaker 7 (02:22:18):
So who's your favorite wrestler?
Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
Oh man? I mean honestly, I just root for the
boys from Nebraska, Okay, Like I knew a lot more
about it when when when when my brother was doing it,
like when we were in college together, Like Jordan Burrows
was from Nebraska and he was Like when Cody came
in as a freshman. They were the same weight, so
they were they were both wrestling partners and everything else.
Like James Green came a little bit after Cody. So
(02:22:41):
that generation of wrestling is when I knew it the most.
I don't know it as well anymore. I just enjoy
every year when the conference championships come on, you know
when they're when the National Championships are going on. The
n C double as. My dad took me to one,
me and my brother to one back when we were young,
when it was in Saint Louis and we got to
see brock Lesnar senior year and you're seeing him do
(02:23:03):
his little jump, his jumps back and forth before he
goes out and beats the boy from it was he
was at Minnesota, the kid, the dude from Iowa. He
beats him four to two in the finals in the place,
just he roughs. Did you see Gable Stevenson loss? Yes,
bro insane, that's sick, insane. But like you know, and
it's like the head coaches of these of these teams
(02:23:24):
now got like Kyle Sanderson of course, Mark Manning, I've
always been a massive fan of him, tight end with him.
And you see like David Taylor getting in the circle.
Just seeing guys from again like that generation kind of
whether they're on the staff now. But as far as individuals,
I don't know as much about him anymore. I more
just support, like I support the university, like Nebraska the
hell of a year this year, even though who was
(02:23:46):
at Penn State's like miles ahead of everybody, So everybody
always kind of competes for that second that second spot,
whether it's Iowa, Oklahoma State. So I just kind of
enjoy I just enjoy watching wrestling.
Speaker 7 (02:23:58):
That's super dope.
Speaker 1 (02:23:59):
Yeah, because you got a couple you were just talking
about one of your boys.
Speaker 7 (02:24:03):
That's yeah, Real Woods. He's about to go to the
Final X he wins this tournament, and that's.
Speaker 1 (02:24:07):
This weekend if everybody listening, We're recording on Thursday, the twelfth,
so when this comes out, it'll be on Tuesday, so
the match will have already happened. But your boys, Uh,
he's going to compete this weekend.
Speaker 7 (02:24:19):
Real Woods.
Speaker 1 (02:24:19):
Yeah, a Final X in New Jersey, and if he wins,
he's gonna be on the Olympic Olympic team.
Speaker 3 (02:24:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:24:25):
That's sick man, So rooting for him. I hope he wins.
He's gonna win, He's gonna win.
Speaker 2 (02:24:32):
Well, who's your favorite wrestler?
Speaker 1 (02:24:33):
I was telling him how I don't really as far
as like individuals now, I'm not as privy to everybody
who wrestles now. I'm more just like follow a lot
of guys back from the generation that I was kind
of just around how their coaches now, and I more
so just support the Huskers and you're always knowing about
Penn State and who the good teams are.
Speaker 7 (02:24:50):
What about UFC favorite UFC fighter?
Speaker 1 (02:24:55):
I mean our boy, we were boy, Mike Chandler. Yeah,
missed the ol' Connor McGregor. We just watched Sean O'Malley
and Morob over the weekend and Morob is a psychopath.
Speaker 2 (02:25:05):
Yeah, he's gonna be a cat that's a champion for
a long long time. Man.
Speaker 1 (02:25:10):
Who else do you have?
Speaker 2 (02:25:11):
Who is the cat that fought John Jones?
Speaker 1 (02:25:14):
I know, but John Jones is so up in the air.
Is he gonna? Is he gonna come back?
Speaker 2 (02:25:18):
He takes two three years off every time he fights
like crazy though, like bro he is. I mean it's
been said by Dan's he's the goat. He's a goat.
Speaker 1 (02:25:28):
I'm sick that d C. Daniel Cormier never got his
like a legit rematch shot against him.
Speaker 7 (02:25:33):
Daniel Cormier was going to beat John.
Speaker 2 (02:25:36):
Maybe not, maybe not, but you would like to see
like a little bow tie put on that have it.
I'll be done.
Speaker 1 (02:25:42):
But who is the PD? Thing came out when the
d John d John?
Speaker 7 (02:25:51):
John's the goat John is John.
Speaker 1 (02:25:53):
Yeah. John Jones is awesome, but you just never know
when he's gonna get in the octagon again.
Speaker 7 (02:25:57):
I remember when we were COVID was happening in New
Mexico and I went back to Albuquerque and there was
like riots going downtown, people breaking glass doors, getting into
jewelry stores. John Jones went downtown, whooped a few fuckers
ass and put it into all that ship.
Speaker 2 (02:26:14):
That's insane.
Speaker 7 (02:26:15):
It was crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:26:16):
Who's your outside of John Jones? Who's your favorite fighter?
Speaker 6 (02:26:19):
Ah?
Speaker 7 (02:26:23):
I like Amanda nunia Is. I know she's coming back.
Speaker 2 (02:26:27):
Yeah, finding that girl that show is it Kayla Harris?
I think so that sounds that sounds about right. But
she put on a performance this last weekend like she
was very impressive. It'll be interesting to see a man
in noon is taking that much time off essentially gets
inducted the Hall of Fame last International Fight Week and
then says, Oh, I'm gonna come back for one more,
but that Kaylea, if that is her name, I don't
(02:26:48):
want to suck it up. Her quote of being like
I got the belt, you got the legacy, it's put
it on the table. Yeah, damn, that's a bar. Yeah,
that's a bar realized. I mean, you've been new UFC.
I started a Madison Square garden. Like it's electric, dude,
it's just being a part of it. Being around it
is awesome.
Speaker 7 (02:27:03):
Well, how does it feel for you guys? You guys
are like with like Trump and stuff, like they set
us to the like, uh, where all the fighters were?
You guys were like Trump And it feels insane, like
they'll not be sitting there and we just look over
like what the fuck is there's definitely a level of
imposter syndrome.
Speaker 2 (02:27:19):
Yeah, like we shouldn't be saying with this case. It
really just goes down to like the relationship with Dana
and get around these people. You don't have to like
an asshole, like you just try to be as respectful
as possible, but like the people you get to sit
next to in these fights and essentially network and talk
to and be around like it's you're seeing extremely powerful
people come under one roof.
Speaker 1 (02:27:38):
Yeah, and you're just like, uh, enjoying the moment of
being that close to the fucking the fucking octagon.
Speaker 3 (02:27:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:27:45):
Yeah, like the the you know, you hear the punches,
you feel the punches, you just feel the entire environment.
When the lights go off and it's just a spotlight
on the octagon, you hear the walk and you feel
them walking around the cage. It's like you feel the breeze.
You see the corners going on when they give with
their corner. It's uh, it's sick, man.
Speaker 2 (02:28:05):
I'll tell you what a really cool, uh situation to
be in is the fights at the Apex. Because the
Apex are these up and coming fighters that are right
next to the UFC facility. But it's like quiet. You
can hear the punches landing, you can actually hear people
talking when you when the fights are between rounds, you
can put a headset on and listen to what the
coaches are saying to the fighter, Yeah, what the corners
(02:28:28):
are talking about. Like, it's a very cool, intimate setting.
Speaker 1 (02:28:31):
It's awesome. Yeah, yeah, and it's like we're all fans
of Joe Rogan the podcast, but Joe Rogan the UFC
commentator going out there to interview. You've seen the referees
that you recognize because they're at every fight, Bruce Buffer
doing his announcements and intros. It's just it is insane
being that close to.
Speaker 2 (02:28:47):
And the more you're around it too, like the more
like people are recognizing you, like the Bruce Buffer is,
the Rogans and type of things where it's like, yeah,
we're all kind of like in one way or another
part of this old community now and it's just awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:28:57):
Yeah, and you'll you like watch Bruce Buffer. I'll be
watching before fight since kind of just like looking over
and seeing like what he does, and you just see
how he's getting like hyped up and stretch. He has
got got like his little note cards that you see
him like refer to and look at. But you just
see him locking in like he's about to actually fight. Yeah,
it's cool.
Speaker 2 (02:29:17):
It is awesome, dude, just to be a part of
all that. I mean this last fight we were in
Saint Louis at doing Anazra bush Foremann ar game. Yeah. Yeah,
the Cardinal game and then we get on a plane. Yeah,
we can talk about that in a second. We had
on Dana's plane with him and fly to Newark, and
it's just like you're sitting on this plane with his
(02:29:38):
group of group of people, are group of people, and
it's just like this is this is fucking awesome?
Speaker 7 (02:29:43):
Is that the life?
Speaker 2 (02:29:44):
It's there's Yeah, Dana is one of those cats too
where I mean, he's not a bad thing you can
say about him. If you actually know Dana person, I've
heard you would never say one bad thing about how
giving he is. Like he'll walk into a room. I
say this all the time, but if whoever he he
knows the most, he'll talk to the last, Like he
walked in this room right now, he'd go up to
everybody first before sitting down talking to me. Will and
(02:30:05):
even Jack, Like Jack's been around him over a dozen
times now, and it's like he makes you feel like
you are all great.
Speaker 1 (02:30:13):
For that, and you're like you'll have these moments, will
be going on to say, like you're on the plane
or whatever it is, or in any of these rooms
and you just might look over and you make out
contact with Jack or something.
Speaker 2 (02:30:22):
You're just like what the fuck is going on because
we decided to start a podcast. Yeah, like in the
back of some bullshit. Yeah, it's just it's crazy. It
always gives you a reason to have gratitude, reflect and
how awesome this shit is. It's awesome, man, it is cool.
Speaker 1 (02:30:39):
Throughout the convo boys, anything pop up that you want
to go back to with Diego.
Speaker 8 (02:30:45):
One thing I wanted to ask is you'll have some
new tools, some new weapons this year. Who's somebody that's
unknown right now that you think is gonna make a
big name for themselves?
Speaker 1 (02:30:55):
Good questions.
Speaker 7 (02:30:57):
We got this new running back from New Mexico State, MK,
where's number twenty two? He's like that, you guys will
see it Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:31:09):
So MK, you played with that New Mexico I play
with it.
Speaker 7 (02:31:11):
When he was a fresh last year, he was a
freshman and then his real names of Kylin Young. But
he's a freshman in New Mexico State, and everyone knew,
like that kid is he's different. Yeah, and then he
got his chance. He had he had his kid, and
then so he took a year off last year and
then he came this year and.
Speaker 2 (02:31:29):
He took it.
Speaker 1 (02:31:30):
Didn't play last year?
Speaker 7 (02:31:30):
Yeah, yeah, he didn't play last year.
Speaker 1 (02:31:32):
Oh no ship, Yeah, to have a.
Speaker 2 (02:31:33):
Kid, Jack, I see you, I got a mic.
Speaker 6 (02:31:37):
I'm not I'm I'm a Tennessee fan.
Speaker 3 (02:31:38):
We're not.
Speaker 6 (02:31:39):
I'm not gonna take it there. You seem like a
good dude. I actually gonna give you something. I have
something in my car, so I'm gonna hop op the
bus and grab it. And it literally you might be like,
what the fuck is this? And it's not like a
gag gift. I'm gonna go grab it, so pause. But
it's actually I think it's kind of cool, Like it's
actually so just give me some all right, I'm Jack.
Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
By the way. While Jack's grabbing his non gag gift
that everyone thinks is gonna everyone's gonna think it's kind
of cool, you go one.
Speaker 1 (02:32:05):
I kind of want to askince. Jack's off the bus. Yeah.
You guys feel like we want Vandy to be the
States the state squad. Yeah, but you're an intern.
Speaker 2 (02:32:13):
You can't you know, don't speak unless spoke Tennessee.
Speaker 7 (02:32:18):
Vanderbilt is gonna run Tennessee after this year, Like this
is gonna be the new staple of like college foot
what's gonna happen here at Vanderbilt.
Speaker 1 (02:32:27):
Do any of you and the boys ever like talk
about that, Like we gotta be the fucking state school. Well,
we're in Nashville, Tennessee, like if we're in the music city,
Like we need to be the brand of Tennessee.
Speaker 7 (02:32:36):
Everyone wants to come to Tennessee because of Nashville, So
they want to come to Nashville. So Vanderbilt and then
when we have like the most money in nil like
why not come here? So like we literally just have
to win this year and throughout the rest of the
year take care of itself.
Speaker 1 (02:32:53):
You think Vandy will have the most money in the
game or.
Speaker 7 (02:32:56):
I think we'll be up there. Yeah, but like Snashville, Yeah,
there's a lot of big hitters around here. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:33:02):
You need a team to believe in.
Speaker 7 (02:33:03):
Yeah, that's all they need.
Speaker 3 (02:33:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:33:10):
Yeah, what's up Jack?
Speaker 7 (02:33:12):
Hey, what was up with your pitch?
Speaker 2 (02:33:15):
Yeah? How about that? Huh?
Speaker 7 (02:33:17):
Was that even a pitch?
Speaker 6 (02:33:19):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:33:19):
I mean counts one? Oh? Right, counts one?
Speaker 1 (02:33:23):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (02:33:24):
I've been out every single day after this podcast. You're
not gonna go toss the ball around a little bit.
Speaker 7 (02:33:30):
I don't know, I might get like concussed or something.
What do you mean flying all.
Speaker 2 (02:33:34):
Over flying all over. But you got a glove and
you're an athlete. I know what's about.
Speaker 1 (02:33:39):
If it hits like the roof and then falls down
hits him on the head. Can guess.
Speaker 2 (02:33:44):
If it hits you on the head and you can
cuss after that, then you're not who you thought you were.
Speaker 7 (02:33:48):
Okay, that's fair to say.
Speaker 1 (02:33:50):
But I'll tell you, Hey, you get some legal advice
because you can probably well, don't do that because then
it's on bus.
Speaker 7 (02:33:55):
Yeah. No, no, I'm not doing that.
Speaker 6 (02:33:57):
So I was I was at a camp out and
we were using newspaper to start fires, and all of
a sudden, I see this this paper. I wish it'd
have been a Tennessee player because I think this would
be something that's super cool to get framed. I was
gonna give it to my friend's dad, who's a Anny fan.
But since you are the person in this, I.
Speaker 2 (02:34:13):
Think it's cool.
Speaker 7 (02:34:13):
You literally can throw it away. But I thought it
was kind of dope. But it's like positive powers through
all and like just that is fucking hard.
Speaker 1 (02:34:20):
So if you keep that is sick. So I think
I think it's.
Speaker 7 (02:34:25):
Better coming from a Tennessee So.
Speaker 2 (02:34:27):
Look, this is we're still gonna have the rivalry. But
I hope the best for you and hope you have
a successful career.
Speaker 7 (02:34:32):
So I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (02:34:34):
Now, thank you.
Speaker 3 (02:34:36):
One.
Speaker 2 (02:34:37):
That's big. That's big of you. Which camera show this
camera here?
Speaker 1 (02:34:45):
That is badass. It's bigger than the game, bigger than
the game, one hundred.
Speaker 2 (02:34:56):
Corrupt.
Speaker 1 (02:34:58):
I like question.
Speaker 2 (02:34:59):
Yeah, Go, as you know, bud light is absolutely incredible,
and anyone would do anything for a bud Light. But
what's one thing Diego Pavia would do anything for it?
Can't say family.
Speaker 7 (02:35:12):
I'd bite an ear off to win the national championship.
Speaker 2 (02:35:17):
Okay, oh yeah you would, Mike Tyson. Somebody doesn't matter
the ear, No, anybody's ear. You'd bite my ear off.
Speaker 1 (02:35:25):
Would you let somebody bite your ear off for a
t Would.
Speaker 2 (02:35:29):
You let somebody cut your piece off for a national title?
Speaker 3 (02:35:31):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (02:35:34):
Just a ken doll.
Speaker 7 (02:35:35):
Just there's surgery now that you can work with. Yeah,
then Naddy's gonna be mine though.
Speaker 1 (02:35:44):
Yeah, he came, he came into this question.
Speaker 2 (02:35:47):
He understood this podcast understood.
Speaker 1 (02:35:49):
Yeah, he understood, and we expect Josh Pate to be
talking about this.
Speaker 7 (02:35:53):
Yeah, yeah, who's Josh Pate?
Speaker 2 (02:35:56):
Oh what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (02:35:59):
Almost the brightest minded in college football. Actually he is
a future commissioner of college football.
Speaker 3 (02:36:06):
Oh shit, he's.
Speaker 1 (02:36:08):
Got Josh paid, he's got a show.
Speaker 7 (02:36:11):
Oh I've seen this guy know. His name is Josh Pate.
Speaker 1 (02:36:14):
Very put together, ripped, well spoken. Definitely, where's true classic
bright mind? He loves you.
Speaker 7 (02:36:21):
He gave us the rank on two fourth steven at thirteen.
Speaker 1 (02:36:24):
No, that was a joke. I was just throwing that
out there. He didn't actually write that one. I don't
know where he has you.
Speaker 7 (02:36:29):
That's in Wikipedia, shit right there.
Speaker 1 (02:36:30):
Well, twenty four to seven did write that article. I
just he doesn't work for twenty four to seven. Oh okay,
he's got his own lane, he's got his own thing going.
Speaker 7 (02:36:37):
Hey my bad, Josh Pate.
Speaker 2 (02:36:40):
Let's give a right of foster digo Pavia.
Speaker 1 (02:36:44):
Hey, I have one more question. Throughout this last year,
the run that you did have, what was like, you know,
being a being a fan of the sport growing up
and everything else. What was like the coolest thing you
got to do. But there's going somebody show or something like, Man,
this is.
Speaker 7 (02:36:58):
Fucking this is the best thing is hang out with theovon.
That guy's a fucking nut job. He's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (02:37:04):
Where did you get to hang with him?
Speaker 7 (02:37:06):
So after the banda game.
Speaker 2 (02:37:10):
That night?
Speaker 7 (02:37:11):
No, no, no, not that night, but like a few
like a week after or something, we went and I
took a few of the boys and we went and
just got some ice cream. And that guy's.
Speaker 1 (02:37:24):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 7 (02:37:27):
H chock the fudge brownie guy. But anyway, like I
was like, bro, he was like the coolest person, like
he had like he was my best friend for like
forty years, you know what I mean. And so, but
that that's really cool that I get to hang out
with that guy.
Speaker 1 (02:37:41):
Yeah, he's a monster.
Speaker 2 (02:37:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:37:43):
Did you go to one of his shows or something?
You just saw him out at?
Speaker 5 (02:37:45):
No?
Speaker 7 (02:37:46):
I haven't got the chance to. Yeah, but like I
get to see a show every day, like he's every
time I hang out with him. It's like fucking holy shit,
this guy is naturally funny, like he belongs to do comedy.
Speaker 1 (02:37:58):
Yeah, dude, he is a he's he's a especially like
in person hanging around just the way his brain operates
and thinks on his feet and everything else. It just
comes up with the craziest ship.
Speaker 3 (02:38:07):
I think.
Speaker 7 (02:38:07):
I think we're like I was gonna say good together,
but like that sounds fucking gay, but like hang out
hanging out because like he just says whatever is on
his mind, and then I say whatever's on my mind.
Speaker 3 (02:38:20):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (02:38:20):
It just it's just like fucking nut jobs at it.
Speaker 2 (02:38:23):
Yeah, it gives me a great couple, Taylor, Right, think
about taxes, right, think about taxes. Yeah, I could say money,
joint household income.
Speaker 7 (02:38:35):
What is wrong with you too? You guys got going
on as if you.
Speaker 2 (02:38:40):
Think about it, right?
Speaker 1 (02:38:41):
Yeah, just trying to build on his story.
Speaker 2 (02:38:42):
It's a business decision. Yeah, let's say I pronounce your
juck and Larry.
Speaker 1 (02:38:47):
You got what you have? You hooked him up with
the Pavia jersey yet.
Speaker 7 (02:38:51):
I was actually, uh so what happened with the Pavia
jerseys is like, uh yeah, they all sold and then
like they stopped making him after the season. I can't
even buy any right now.
Speaker 1 (02:39:02):
You can't even get your own jerseys.
Speaker 7 (02:39:03):
I can't get out on jersey right now.
Speaker 1 (02:39:04):
But we need them for the shop. Yeah, so listen
to this.
Speaker 2 (02:39:07):
When you guys beat Alabama again, your words, our words
bring you put in the shop. We'll frame it. You
got my word game more? Yeah, that's what we just said, right, whoa.
I mean, you sound like you're okay with just letting whoever.
Speaker 7 (02:39:25):
Whoa did you not hear the price tag?
Speaker 1 (02:39:27):
Let's take that? Yeah, heay.
Speaker 6 (02:39:32):
But before it's all said and done, I gotta give
a shout to my boy Luke pass Seen, a huge
vannerable fan. When you guys beat Alabama, they always take
like a boy's golf trip, and he got he does.
He's not a big part of your drinker. He actually
just had a kid three weeks ago, so shout out
to Joey his new daughter. But he made a drunken
bet saying that if Bama loses, he would buy all
of his boys Diego Pavia jerseys. He gets blacked out,
(02:39:54):
wakes up the next morning, and Bama loss, and so
he had and his buddies while he's passed out, literally
tapped in. He has credit card connected and bought thirteen
hundred dollars worth.
Speaker 7 (02:40:04):
Of jerseys and they all sent them.
Speaker 6 (02:40:06):
And then three of the guys, though, are big dudes,
and they only got excel. So three of the dudes
they don't even fit the jerseys. So maybe I can
sneak one of those jerseys for us. I'll tap in,
but I had to shout my boy, Yeah, I like
that thirteen hundred, which is the first Czech diego Pavi
got and is an al deal for New Mexico state.
Speaker 7 (02:40:26):
Full circle fourteen.
Speaker 1 (02:40:27):
But yeah, taxes, Yeah, appreciate your hey.
Speaker 7 (02:40:31):
Taxes are an mfor yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:40:34):
No doubt of text to get rid of Federal from
text right graph, cool graph, Let's get rid of it.
Doesn't want to Texas, We can all get behind that.
Speaker 1 (02:40:47):
Appreciate everybody for tuning in, Big kuck sinny kisses. I
hope you enjoyed this episode. See you next time.
