(00:00):
There's offspring and self stay on,say on a one Rex in the morning.
Angela Johnson on the phone. Whathappened? Angela here a little late?
He couldn't get off from the lastinterview. What's the deal? What
happened? It's so popular? Okayto hang on to you forever? I
am populor oh might I'm sure youhear all the time. It must be
(00:22):
nice having a sixth comedy special,It must be nice. Yeah, like
they just gave it to you.You earned this, you earned your place.
Not only did I earn this special, I self produce, self financed
this special. Really, this oneI own myself. We filmed it at
the historic Riemann Auditorium in Nashville,Tennessee, which has been just home to
(00:47):
such legends like Johnny Cash, DollyParton, Elvis Presley has performed there and
then they let us riff raff comein and tell some jokes. Could you
read that's what I did? Couldyou feel the spirit of performers past while
you were there? Did you haveany like a personal little little little wind
blow through you and you went, wait a second, I'm standing felt magical?
(01:10):
Yeah, it really did. Itreally did feel magical. And I
don't want to give it away becausemy hour special is on YouTube right now.
Anybody could watch it right now forfree. But the closing joke that
I do, I'm not going togive it away, But there's a song
that is attached to that closing joke. Okay, And that day that I
(01:32):
was filming on October first, backin nineteen eighty three, that particular song
went number one on the Billboard charts. Huh. And I was filming on
that day that I was doing kindof like a little remake of that song.
Really is it felt magical? Howcool is that? So it was
like a little spiritual kind of artistsof Christmas past kind of exactly feeling that
(01:59):
swept through. That's really great. You know, it's pretty huge that you've
had six of these that have absolutelygone viral all over YouTube. Yeah,
like what two point five million viewson this latest one, and they can
actually watch it for free on YouTube. That's right, you can watch it
for free on YouTube. It wasimportant for me to bring it back to
YouTube because my career started back intwo thousand and seven when this brand new
(02:22):
thing called YouTube came out and Idid this video of me going to get
my nails. Don never seen andit was this nails video. I'll know
what you're talking about. Who knowswhat I'm talking about? Oh my gosh.
If you just type in nail salonand Google, it's so funny.
Like, if you're looking to goget your nails done, my video will
probably pop up. It's weird thatwe've talked so much in the in the
(02:42):
past couple of years. As you'vedone these things, I've been able to
interview you because even before then,I remember family members and my girlfriend and
just like you've got to see this, You've got to see this, and
they would show me. You know, that's why you don't have a boyfriend.
It's so funny, exactly. Andthat's crazy to me that still after
all these years, sixteen years later, people are still passing it around and
(03:07):
still showing it to their family andfriends. And so that's why I brought
my special back to YouTube, becausethat's the platform that kicked off my career
for me. That's how I gotdiscovered was YouTube and fans passing it around.
So I said, I'm going tobring this sixth Hour Special to the
fans back on YouTube. Hey,am I maybe wrong here. But didn't
(03:27):
you just have a baby. Idid. I had a baby four months
old. You had sex with aman? I know it. Now everybody
knows. I have to drop allthose virgin jokes now. That is so
great. It's so awesome. Congratulationsto you, Thank you. I waited
(03:49):
until I was forty one years oldto have my first baby. Did you
feel like clock ticking thing that theytalk about, like when you were thirty
two? Were you like, Okay, I'm going to give this till I'm
thirty four and that's it. No, I didn't want kids, really,
I didn't want kids at all.And then I got to like thirty eight,
and I was like, hmm,did I mess up? Should I
(04:10):
have had kids? And that's whenI started my whole journey and I got
pregnant forty one. Wow, thatis so great. Congratulations, thank you.
I went I want to wait.I was geriatric pregnancy, that's what
they call it. Yeah, that'swhat I want to I want to have
a kid now, so you know, when I'm seventy, my twenty year
old can beat the crap out ofme. That's what that's what I want.
I want to be able to pickup my kid from school and they
(04:30):
go, Rosie, your grandma's here, and it's me. That's great.
Are you going to be one ofthose moms that like drags or kid on
stage during your performance. You're goingto have to do that at some point.
I probably will. Yeah, yeah, she will be that when she's
old enough to stay up late.Sure, so you can be like,
look what mom did for you.Yeah, I do this for you.
(04:53):
I'm exhausted. So the brand newsspecialist called say I won't. Did I
say it right? I don't knowwhat the inflection would be. You have
to say it pretty close. Youhave to say it, so it's it's
say I won't. And that's right. You've already got over two and a
half million. Now after this showit should go to like seven million,
(05:14):
you know after Well, let metell you, I am a few thousand
away from three million views. Soif all your listeners would just go stream
it right now and I could justhit that three million mark by the end
of the weekend, let's do it. There you go, you get that
sixteen dollars check from YouTube. Ican't wait a little bit bigger than that.
(05:40):
So what's next after you've done thesecomedy specials and I've asked you that
question before. More movie kind ofstuff, more TV appearances. We're going
to see you in a T Mobilecommercial. What's next for you? What
do you? What do you?I would listen to, I would take
I would take a T Mobile commercial. I would do it. I do
have a coming out, but Ican't talk about it because actors are still
(06:02):
striking. But I do have someprojects coming out and I'm looking forward to
doing more of those. And whenmy daughter gets older, I can't wait
to tell her that she was inmy belly while I was filming some of
these projects. And I'm I'm excitedto do more. That is really really
fantastic. All right, So youcan check it out on YouTube. It's
(06:24):
say I won't and you can watchit for free. Did they just search
it under Angela Johnson Reyes? YouAngela Johnson? You did the rays thing?
Is that news? I finally addedin my married name. It was
after about ten eleven years of beingmarried. I was like, you know

right, and so your parents werelooking for that. You know, we
want to call her Angela, buthow can we spell it so it can
be difficult for the Just put inAngela Johnson Comedy Special. Even if you
(07:08):
spell it incorrectly. I am thatpopular you guys, it'll just correct you.
