the Morning, Sports Radio ninety three point three k JRFM.
We are broadcasting live for a second day in a
row here in Detroit, Michigan, where last night the Mariners
did win eight to four over the Tigers to take a.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Two games to one lead in the Alds.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And today they can salt away this entire series and
advance to the American Camp.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Series with a win here today, and they'll have two
bites at that apple.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
If it doesn't work out today, then it's back home
to Seattle for Game number five and that will decide
the series. But the Mariners have a chance to close
it out here in Detroit, and we are here to
bring it to you from Michigan, and we welcome you
to the show. Bucky Jacobson us here. My name is
Chuck Powell.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Ashley's back in Seattle, but we come to you live
here this morning for a second morning in a row
from Michigan, where we watched wonderful, wonderful results last night.
Bucky Jacob said, that was some good stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
It really was. It was a lot of time. Ran
into a lot of people that didn't travel here from Seattle,
and they were like, well.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
A bad day, I'm not really pretty good actually.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Pretty good day over all day.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah, actually Seattle fans. Yeah, as a matter of fact,
So hi.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Fine, but I gotta say, I mean, we've got to
talk about this for a minute before we dive into
this game. Bucky and I are really like overwhelmed by
how nice these people, even the ones that are despondent
about their tigers losing to the Mariners, and they find
out that we're Mariner fans, are like so gracious about it,

(02:15):
Like it's unreal what we're experiencing. Last night, we're walking home.
We went to Tommy's for a second straight night, and
we're going back again tonight because the place is that good.
And so we're walked back and like and I Bucky
and I are just dumbfounded, like, can you believe how kind.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
These people are? I mean, it is unbelievable. So I
walk in this morning and I'm like, I'm.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Probably imagining that. I'm sure that that didn't. I'm sure
we're just exaggerating. We're having a good time. We're feeding
off Mariner, you know winds.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, we're just we're letting it.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Go to our heads in our hearts, that's all. They're
not as nice as I imagine. So I go and
I try to find a fork this morning here at
the iHeart Studios in Detroit. And I walk in and
there's this young man, probably twenty five years old, and
he says.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well, good morning, welcome to Detroit.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it. It's great to be here.
Everybody's been very nice. Is there a plastic fork that
I could grab? Is there a plastic fork that you
can grab?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Of course?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And he rows over and he pulls open a drawer
and there's just supplies for days and there's a thousand
plastic forks in there. Hey, I want you to know,
you just make yourself at home. I mean, you were
a part of our family. So anything around here, there's tea,
there's coffee, it's yours.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, And I'm like yeah, And I'm like, is there
a track being played on us?

Speaker 5 (03:41):
I really feel like we're getting punked?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah? Is there a hidden for nice? What is happening?
I thought that these people were like rough. I thought
that we were going to have to like watch our backs.
I thought I would get stabbed in the back.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
With a plastic fork if if we beat the Tigers
in game number three. And here's this guy just like, yeah,
you know, our home is your home. Jake is his name.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
I mean, we don't even provide supplies in Seattle for ourselves,
no much less for guests that roll into town.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, there's no secret stash somewhere for the guests. I mean,
it's hard to find any kind of fork, uh in
our kitchens. And we've got nice studios. But I don't
know what's happening over here. But this guy was like,
you know, getting foot rubs in the you know, in
the meeting rooms. You know, I mean, whatever you want,
this guy's got your covered.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
What do you what's your favorite snack?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Starburst? Well I might have some, right, So happens jumbo pack? Yea,
it opens up his coat. I mean, are we getting punked?
Because this is unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
I don't happen.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I feel like a memo came out that, like, you know,
somehow they told people, hey, if you see this giant
bald ginger guy and this other you know guy Chuck,
if you if you see them, just be nice. They
have really had a tough thing on which we don't,
you know, like like they're going through a lot just
I mean, it's honestly that it's so over the top.

(05:05):
The dumbfounded is a perfect word for it. We walked
out of Tommy's again like what isn't that what I mean?
I don't even know how. I mean, I told Tommy
last night when we met the owner that I might
just tell my family pack up, we're moving to Detroit.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
I traveled all.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Around the country playing a minor league ball for all
those years, and then I always was like, the Northwest
is home. Northwest is home, and that's it's the best play.
It's just because I didn't spend enough time in Detroit, babe.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, we got three hugs from three different employees
as we were leaving last night.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
Then we've known for two days. I mean, I said
like forty words to Jody.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Trying to pick up our tab.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
You guys are gonna be here tomorrow. I'm gonna be
off hug.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I don't think we were overly charming, if anybody's making that.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yeah possible.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, I think we were just open to their charms
and they liked it.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
We reciprocated.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
So anyway, Detroit, you've been a great host, and you
even let us kick your ass last night, So thank you.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
You couldn't be more accommodating here.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
We come into your town, we try to steal your lunch,
we do it, and you say.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I've been told have a blessed day, yes, six times, David.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I was even shooting a video last night for the
social media apparently that's a thing, and I'm trying to
do something from the Mariners perspective. But I'm out in
the middle of a bunch of Tiger fans and there
was one guy and I could see that he was
overhearing what I was doing, and I was talking a
little trash in my little video U and I'm in

(06:44):
the midst of it, and he comes over and he's
got no Tigers are going to win. Goes back and forth,
and so we have a little bit of an exchange
on the video and then he just starts laughing. He goes,
you're all right, wow, even when I'm talking trash.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Like you so nice, you so cool over me.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
My daughter, Yeah, she's for crabs.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, it's it's been great. Thank you for being a
great host, and we plan to destroy you tonight. All right, Well,
let's talk about the game. It is Chuck and Buck.
We are here in Detroit, Michigan. They've been a great
host to us, but we have baseball to discuss. Mariners
win it last night by a final score of eight

(07:29):
to four. It was a complete effort by this team.
Logan Gilbert got the job done as a starter, the
team from top to bottom, and that's what they've been
waiting for, is what we've been waiting to see.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Again.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Was very effective. You score eight runs on the night,
and even the bullpen had done its job pretty much.
Everyone but Ferguson really played well last night.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, And Ferguson made it unnecessarily uncomfortable there in the
ninth and we had to bring in Muniose to put
out his but nonetheless pretty convincing win last night in
game number three, eight to four was the final score,
and there certainly were good vibes in the clubhouse, and
yet an absolute you know, focus on jobs not done

(08:16):
and we're just getting started. You just really feel like
this team really understands the moment. I mean, that's the
impression that I've gotten being around them here in these
playoffs thus far. They really understand the moment, They understand
what's at stake, they understand how badly the fan base
wants it. They want it that badly, and yet they're

(08:37):
keeping everything in perspective. And that's a pretty encouraging sign
for me. Yeah, it's a great sign. I mean, you know,
you'll hear it and you see it actually even more
than you hear about it. When you're watching sports where
when a team comes together, when a team is playing
good team sport whatever it is, baseball, football, whatever, you

(08:58):
kind of get the feel that this team is.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
They know who they are now. It's not a team.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Last year we watched a ton of games where it
felt like you had, you know, four or five guys
at the top of the lineup that they were gonna
have to provide the punch. They were gonna have to
provide the offense at least the spark to get something going,
and you maybe I'll get a little chip in from
the bottom. This team, I think understands that there's not
as much pressure on each individual bat. You don't have
to come through because the dude behind you might, and

(09:26):
he doesn't have to come through because the guy behind
him might, and you might not for a couple of innings,
and then all of a sudden, it might be Victor
Roebus that gets the spark going. And then then one
after another after another, and you're putting up a couple
of crooked numbers. That is a recipe for success with
his pitching staff because then they can pound the zone
and get ahead of guys. They don't have to worry
about one mistake costing them the game. And so, I mean,

(09:49):
I just feel like yesterday was the prime example of
you didn't have everybody contribute. As a matter of fact,
Julio Polonko, Naylor, your three four to five guys go
oh for fourteen. I mean I think Naylor Polanco ended
up having a walk in there, yeah, you know, and
there was a couple other good abs from those guys,
but for the most part they didn't contribute offensively, and
you still ended up putting up eight runs. So it

(10:09):
was it was a good team effort, I think, with
the exception of Ferguson, he had he had a not
so good game. Obviously, Yeah, it is what it is.
You're going to have that from time to time. But
to me, it just feels like this team kind of
gets the concept of we as a team are strong
enough to beat anybody. We've got nine outs or we
got nine innings, to go out there and prove that

(10:30):
we're better than they are on offense, defense, pitching, the
whole the whole gamut.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
And yesterday they did exactly that.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, and that first game you have two guys getting
all six of your hits in the game.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
And then in the.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Second game, which was the vict which was the victory
at home, you had more contribution. Still only scored three runs,
but there were more guys chipping in. And then last night,
really the bottom of your order carried you. And I'll
include Suarez, the six hitter in the bottom of the
order in this upcoming stat because it makes the stat
look better. But you at you know, three times through

(11:02):
the lineup last night, when you built your six, six
to one lead heading into the latter innings, you add
your six through nine hitters, seven of twelve on base,
four of nine actually hitting the baseball, so four to
forty four, batting average well over five hundred on base,

(11:22):
two home runs, three runs batted in, and had scored
all five runs in the game. That's six, seven, eight,
and nine. They ended up adding another run scored later
and another RBI from JP Crawford later. But that's some
I must have said it eleven times on three different
shows yesterday as one a host and then two times
as a guess that I was anticipating not just some contributions,

(11:44):
but some damage from the bottom of the lineup, and
it pretty much carried the day yesterday for this team.
And that's a phenomenal sign.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Four.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
As you mentioned a team that has had difficulty with
the bottom part of its order, we've I've never really
felt in the last four or five years that the
bottom part of our order is is something that you
can rely upon. This is how this team is built.
This team has depth one through nine for the first
time I think in the Jerry Depoto era, and you

(12:16):
can win with this lineup now, and it doesn't just
have to be a pitcher shutting down the opponent, mowing
down the opponent, even holding them to one run like
Logan did last night.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
They can win a high scoring game as well.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
And that's what I think ultimately makes the twenty twenty
five Mariners so much more dangerous than past examples.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah, and the idea of them being able to jump
out to a lead, like I said, is a nice
luxury for the starting pitchers to have. And I just
think the beauty of being able to not I mean,
we've talked about the inadequacies of the offense, and I've
always thought that a big part of why that happens
is when you're not winning ball games and you're not

(12:57):
scoring runs as a hitter, you automatically like, well, I
can carry it, you know, hop on my back, guys,
I got Well, that's too much pressure. I don't want
anybody going up there thinking I have to carry the
team offensively. I don't care if you have sixty one homers.
You don't go up there thinking I have to do
this for the team. Now, if it comes down to
late in the game, is tied up, yeah, you should

(13:18):
want to be the guy that'll come through and be
the hero. But you know, you interviewed Polonco down in
the clubhouse yesterday and he ended up saying, it's that's
the nice thing is that anybody can step up and
be the hero in any given day. And yesterday was
a prime example of a bunch of different people having
moments of heroism. I mean, he ended up having a
game where Flairy was kind of mowing guys down. He

(13:42):
went right through the lineup in the first inning. He
ends up in the second inning battling and having a walk.
And it wasn't necessarily this long eleven pitch ab it
was he swung out of the zone a couple of times,
and then he tightened it up and he didn't swing
it any more pitches out of the zone, and he
didn't throw many pitches in the zone. That's just a win,
and it's a small win, but it's kind of a
death by a thousand cuts. He does that, then all

(14:04):
of a sudden, you end up getting the good ab
by Robus, like I said, to kind of start that
inning and off, and then JP dumps that that single
in their boom. You get on the board, and then
it just kind of everything just felt good. Next time,
all of a sudden, Sworez comes out comes up hits
that home run, keeps extending the lead. It just was
one thing after another. Cow comes through, a lot of
people think he's kind of an all or nothing. Not

(14:25):
v he's hitting two forty five or whatever, the two
out RBI knock there to extend the lead, all of those,
it was just one after another kind of just keep
tacking on, tacking on runs and then just start chipping
away at the outs that they have remaining. It was
a really well played game for the most part. And again,
I think it just is one of those if you
go out and just do your job, you don't have
to do something special, Just go do your job, have

(14:47):
tough abs, have a good approach, and then play some
good defense. You're gonna find you're gonna be the better
team more often than not because you're designed well offensively
and pitching staff for works.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, and we're gonna hear from Matt Brash a little
bit later on in the show, But there was this
moment last night, and it was when he pitched, and
it wasn't your typical Brash inning.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
I mean, he three weak ground balls, no strikeouts.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
What's wrong with you, Matt? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, but three up, three down, And that was the
bottom of the seventh and I, you know, on social media,
it's getting ready to just tweet out, like, man, it
just got early quiet. And as I'm tweeting it out,
I look up and like Tiger fans are just leaving,
just you know, by the droves. They're just they are
leaving the ballyard. At that point, it was almost like

(15:36):
a confession of we're not as good as this team.

Speaker 7 (15:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
There was almost that city wide confession of yeah, I'm
glad we're here supporting our team. We got a pretty
good team, but we don't have that team because and
the game was a little bit lopsided at that point,
and they did try to fight back in the ninth inning.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
They showed some fight, but they're there.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
It was kind of symbolic for me and we're certainly
not on this show, not in the clubhouse, like putting
the feet up on the desk. I mean, it's playoff
time and getting that last win is going to be
a challenge in this series to advance. But there was
it really was kind of this moment of looking up, thinking, man,
this place got really quiet, like oh no, no, no, no, no,

(16:17):
they're not quiet.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
They're gone. They are leaving the building after, you know, paying.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Such an amount of money to watch this game with
two at bats to go, and they're convinced that this
series is over.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
That's how I read that.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, well, I mean it's so you're up for Zip
and then they have that inning, was it? In the
fifth inning where hit by pitch, then a guy gets
second sacrifice, bunt him over and then you end up
getting that double playball that really they end up getting
the guy out, but neither kind of catches it in
the palm and when he goes to the ground, it

(16:54):
pops out of his glove, and so they get a
run out of it. That breathes a little life into
the Tigers. Okay, we're on the board. It's forty one.
That feels like a ballgame right there. The next inning
to first two guys get out and JP goes Yachtzi.
It's one of the man right when we start chipping
away at this lead, they just erase what we just
had done. That to me was and then Brash comes

(17:16):
in after that, I think, or maybe it was Bizarro.
After that inning but it was I think it was
bizarre to that inning and then brash the next.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
No, it was brash first.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
Oh, it was brash first. Okay, so it was.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
It just ends up being one of those man, these
guys like even when we start to feel like we
maybe are gonna see some momentum, they end up kind
of snipering the momentum back. That's what it felt like yesterday,
just we answered anything that they came at us with.
And that's that's how you end up winning the ball game.
You you make your twenty seven outs worth more than theirs.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Yeah, that's how you end up winning the series, winning advance.
And so one more to go, one more a game
here in Detroit here tonight. Uh, there is a game
five scheduled for Friday back home, and as fun as
that would be, as electrifying as that atmosphere might be,
I want to avoid it.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
I would like to.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Fly home Thursday after our show here in Detroit to
celebrate with our feet up on the desk at that point.
That that's that's how you know. I know Ashley's got
tickets to the game on Friday.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
I don't go, don't go. Yeah, I'm really happy if
you don't go. Yeah, yeah, exactly if we if that,
if I don't get to go, because it means.

Speaker 8 (18:23):
We want it in four I'm good.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I mean and then we'll get you
to an American League Championships.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
All right, perfect, Yeah, sounds great. I'd rather go to that.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
If you want to go out with five iron to
an ALCS game, we'll pay for it.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Okay? And two?

Speaker 2 (18:41):
All right, let's find out what's on tap for today's
Wednesday edition of Chuck and Buck.

Speaker 8 (18:50):
What's on tip?

Speaker 7 (18:52):
What's on tap? All right?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Mariners win a four over the Tigers take a two
to one series lead in this best of five divisional round,
and men Tink's been joining us all year long at
eight thirty on Wednesdays. She will certainly do it today.
So that's coming your way. Miller versus Mize. That is
the pitching matchup. So Bryce Miller will get the game
four start. Casey Miz, former number one overall pick in

(19:15):
the draft, will end up pitching for the Detroit Tigers
with their season on the line.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
That is a noon.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Start back home, three o'clock start out here in Detroit.
Matt Brash, we mentioned him a couple of times this morning.
I did catch up with him in the clubhouse last
night after the game, had a really interesting conversation with him.
So we'll replay that for you at some point during
the show today, probably the nine o'clock hour, but I
don't know. I don't know when we're gonna play, but

(19:41):
you'll hear for Matt Brash today because I think it's
worth hearing some of the comments from him, So we'll
do that on the program.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yankees rallied from a six to one deficit.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
And this is where you know you can't take anything
for granted, because it looked at one point like the
New York Yankees were dead in the water against the
Toronto Blue Jays last night. They were trailing six to one,
and damn if they didn't come all the way back
and win that thing nine to six. So their season
remains alive and they will play game number four tonight
at four o'clock there at Yankee Stadium. National League also

(20:15):
in action today, So you got four games today in
the Divisional round of the playoffs. You got the Brewers
at the Cubs at two pm. You've got the Phillies
at the Dodgers at six pm. Phillies and Cubs trailing
two in that series. It's hump day, so we turned
the page on the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
and start really isolating on the next game, and that's

(20:38):
the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville this Sunday.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
We will hear from Greg Bell today at seven oh five.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Husky's host Rutgers Friday Night, Cam Cleland drops by every Wednesday,
so we'll hear from the huss Former Husky tied end
at eight o'clock this morning. NHL's Opening Night featured three games,
Florida over Chicago three two, Pittsburgh over the Rainers three nothing,
and Colorado won late last night four to one over
the Los Angeles Kings. Of course, we're focused on the

(21:07):
Krakens Opener, which will take place this Thursday at home
against Anaheim, and we will talk for the first time
officially this hockey season with our friend Al Koniski today
at nine thirty. But mostly today's show is about the Mariners.
We are broadcasting from Detroit thanks to snow Qualmi Casino,
Seattle's closest sportsbook. Coming up on the other side, Mariners

(21:31):
Morning After Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 9 (21:38):
Reta on the ground back up the middle of the
center field of pace. Hit Crawford speeding around third, he
will score. Randy eros Arena has his first RBI the postseason,
and it's two nothing cl He swings and sends one
out towards deep left field. This one's way back there
at Auo Haino. Suarez returns to Detroit with a bang.

(21:58):
It's three nothing CLA.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
He's gonna go to Montero, but it's five to one.

Speaker 9 (22:03):
Crawford sends a fly ball out towards right field. That
one's way back and gone.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
JP.

Speaker 9 (22:10):
Crawford right on cue delivers. He sends one the other way,
well struck ball deep left field and gone. Brawley's first
of the playoffs, and it's eight to one Seattle.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
They are feeling it.

Speaker 9 (22:28):
Down the right field line.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Naylor makes the.

Speaker 9 (22:30):
Catch, doubles it off, and then's the ball game. Josh
Naylor on a frozen roof, snared it stepped on the
back and finishes off. Game three and the Mariners are
one step away from the LCS.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Box Sports on.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
The call last night, as the Mariners do win eight
to four over the Detroit Tigers, at Camerica Park. It's
Chuck Powel, Bucky Jacobson.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
We are all on the road.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
We are broadcasting live from Detroit, Michigan. We will be
again tomorrow morning and hopefully talking about an Alds victory.
The Mariners do have a chance to take the series
this afternoon here in Detroit with a victory. They got
two bites at the Apple. If they need to, they
can close it out at home Friday back there in Seattle.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
But let's get this thing done tonight.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
I think is sort of the mentality that the entire organization,
and I think all of the state of Washington has
as we enter this Wednesday. So welcome into the program.
We roll into our seven o'clock hour here on a
hump day. Mariners eight to four winners last night. The
pitching matchup this evening will be Bryce Miller for US,

(23:45):
Casey Mize going for the Tigers. Start is at noon
Seattle time, three o'clock out here in Detroit, Michigan, and
an opportunity, as I mentioned, to close things out. Josh
Naylor still is not hitting, but he was at least
in the lineup last night.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
There was a lot of question about that. Josh Naylor
has made it very well known.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
That I don't like my personal affairs to be mentioned anywhere,
so he has controlled the narrative when it comes to
his first child's birth. But he did at least admit
last night that all is good that they did have
a baby. Mister and missus Naylor had their first baby
last night.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
And he wouldn't really mention anything else.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
I think there was a bit of a gender reveal though,
last night by his belt choice.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Because that thing was special. That thing was it.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Was blue, and it was sparkly, and it was and
it said nails on it.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
I mean, that was something else right there. That was
like a beauty pageant.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
I don't wholeheartedly understand the dazzled belt thing.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Now, don't get me wrong. I've had jeans.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
I've had some jeans that had some bedazzles on the
on the back pock right, oh wow. And I got
made fun by my friends a lot. And now yet
I just the bedazzled belt drawing attention to my waistline.
But he, the dude just got flair. He's got a
swagger about him. And that belt was I mean, it
was arc goldie.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
I don't know if I've ever seen anybody as gritty
and also as fashion.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
As what Josh Naylor is. It's a rare combination. The
rest of your headlines just quickly because we got to.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Get Greg Bell in here, and we're already a couple
of minutes late to his segment. The Huskies will host
Rutgers Friday night. Cam Cleveland will join us today at
eight o'clock NHL's opening night. Last night, three games took place,
but the Kraken won't start until Thursday at home against
the Anaheim Ducks. We'll talk to al Kiniski for the
first time today at nine thirty. And of course it

(25:52):
is hump Day, so I don't even know what happens
Sunday to the Seahawks because I think about the next
game starting on Wednesday, and that's in Jacksonville against the
Jaguars and joining us now our Seahawks insider, Greg Bell,
What do you think we're gonna close this thing out
here tonight?

Speaker 6 (26:06):
I think, yeah, I think Bryce Miller does it.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
I do.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
It's a schools would be a tougher proposition in one
whether or not face I would.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Think, yeah, why didn't you warn us that Detroit was
so hospitable. They've been very kind to us since we've
been here. He didn't tell me about that. And all
your travels, all your worldly travels bell the.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
Midwest people, man, there's some you know that Illinois. Man,
it's a different it's different there. It's yeah, my mother
lives there, my sister lives there, and spend a lot
of time in Detroit and always have a great time.
I'm glad to turn you out as it should.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Yeah, they're treating us well up here. All right, Well,
let's dive into it.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Of course, coming off a tough loss on Sunday and
now suddenly a Jacksonville team that is playing much better
than what people believed they were going to be there
this year. A four and one football team that's gonna
host us host the Seahawks on Sunday. So Jacksonville just

(27:08):
a different entity than maybe we thought we were up
against five weeks ago.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
Yeah, four and one. They beat the Chiefs the other night,
came from behind to do it. They've beaten the forty
nine ers on the road. The Seahawks haven't done very
much in the last decade. They've also beaten Carolina and Houston.
Their only loss was to the Joe Burrow Bengals before
Burrow got hurt thirty one. It was thirty one twenty seven.
I think they lost in Cincinnati. I certainly lost. The

(27:36):
biggest thing that stands out to the knee about the
Jaguars their defense. They have ten interceptions and four fumble
recoveries in five games. That's fourteen turnovers they produced in
five games. You're gonna win a lot of games doing that.
They had Brock Purdy turning the ball over in Santa
Clara a couple of weeks ago. That's the most startling

(27:58):
thing about this team. Trevor Lawrence is still not what
they drafted him to be. He's six touchdowns in five
interceptions so far this season. He's barely a sixty percent passer.
His passer ratings are in the seventies. He's not. It's
their defense so far. If Travis NTN is their lead

(28:19):
running back, but the defense is what the Seahawks attention.
I mean, if you're producing that many turnovers, you're gonna
win games. And that'll that is an equalizer and that
is probably number one on the Seahawks dive and the
Jaguars and how they're doing that.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Well how do you figure the Seahawks got to match
up with it. Obviously the key would be, well, don't
turn the ball over to them. But okay, if they're
really good at finding ways to do it, whether it's
disguises or just super athletic guys making plays, I mean,
how do you combat that with trying to make Trevor
Lawrence make some mistakes, because, like you said, he still

(28:59):
is prone to do that.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
Well, it's to say, well, I think you could just
cut and pace. You've probably saved the time and not
call me when you asked me what the Kiwi game is.
Just replay a tape from the last two years. Run
the ball and that's how that's the best of Sam Darnold,
and that's how this team has been designed, is to
keep the ball away from offenses, run field position, control,

(29:24):
the clock control. That's how they want to play. They've
rarely played that way. Right, Pittsburgh in Week two is
the only game that you can really say the running
game dictated. And that didn't happen till the second half
in Pittsburgh. The yardage numbers in the game the other
day in Tampa Bay game showed that they ran one

(29:45):
hundred and twenty two yards total, But you didn't feel
that the running game was dictating field position, time possession,
keeping the ball away from Tampa Bay, who's still gained
four and twenty five yards and Mayfield stiffer for three
seventy five and for four touchdowns. So they've really yet
to play a full game offensively how they're designed to.
I don't know what's coming because they are still running

(30:06):
the ball and whether they're producing yards or not. Koviak
has shown time and again he's gonna run. He's gonna
run his head and then bang it into the wall
if they have to keep running. But to me, that
would be the way to mitigate your risk of turning
the ball over. Of course, you could still lose fumbles,
and they've done that too, But it bears repeating that

(30:29):
if Sam Darnold holds onto the ball and does not
turn the ball over in the final minutes of two games,
they could be five and oh. A lot of NFL
teams could say that, but that's how important turnovers are,
and turnovers at the quarterback position in particular.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Hi Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Inside of Greg Bell joining us here on the radio program,
of course, you can follow them at G bel Seattle
on x and thenews Tribune dot com for complete comprehensive
coverage of your Seattle Seahawks all year long. They take
on the Jaguars this Sunday. We don't have a defense problem,
do we? I mean, this seems like a ridiculous question
to ask of a Mike McDonald team, But my Baker

(31:06):
Mayfield had way too much time to throw and too
easy a time to score thirty eight points against the
Seahawks on Sunday. So I mean, what's Mike McDonald's doing
to scramble and make sure that that was an outlier,
a fluke, and not something that could be repeated.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
I think they do have a defense problem, and it's
one we've talked about since the beginning of the season,
is tackling, especially in the secondary. But they got exposed
even more than that in the front against Tampa Bay
and their mistackling. Everyone on the team pretty much had
mistackles at some point in the game, and McDonald said
they're going back to the drawing board on Monday. He

(31:45):
said they are going to reevaluate how they're coaching and
drilling tackling. He doesn't use it as an excuse that
they can't go pads, but for fourteen practices of the
entire regular season by CBA rule he doesn't make. He
doesn't think it's an excuse that you can't you don't
bring guys to ground because of injury concerns. You said,
everybody else is playing by the same rules too. They

(32:06):
drill it a lot, They talk about it a lot.
They have form tackling drills that they tailor buy defensive position,
depending if you're an open field secondary guy, you have
different open field tackling drills than say a defensive lineman does.
They do spend a lot of time on him. McDonald's
point was, we are not getting the results for as
much as effort and investment of time and just strategizing

(32:29):
how are we going to tackle, they're not getting the
results for all they're putting into it. So he said,
they are reevaluating that, and they've got to do it
on the fly here before they leave for Florida on Friday.
It's a problem in the NFL off and early in seasons.
We've talked about that from not doing it in training camp.
But when it's now October and you're still having those problems,
I'd say they do have a problem on defense if

(32:51):
you can't tackle in the NFL. Now, the ball is
the game in the past, game is get the ball
all quick, mitigate pass rush. Okay, So if you're going
to not get to the quarterback because the quarterbacks getting
rid of it in less than two seconds and they're
throwing four yard passes, that means that there is you
got to tackle the guy or that four yard pass
becomes ten, twelve, fifteen yards. And that's what happened with

(33:12):
Baker Mayfield getting three hundred and seventy five yards.

Speaker 7 (33:15):
The other day.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
Now, there were a lot of passes down the field, yes,
but if you're not tackling dudes when they're getting the
ball out quick, then they might as well be fifteen
and twenty yard passes because that's what the games are anyway.
And that's what happened on Sunday. That's we've talked about
this more than just in that game, the tackling issue
they've had.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Yeah, I mean, I agree, the tackling. You can't allow
them to just do the little short pitching catch for
five yards and then run for ten more. That's not
going to work out in the long run. But I mean,
is there anything that needs to change. Is it the
pass rush that needs to get there quicker or do
they need to tighten up the coverage because the fact
that he completes twenty nine out of thirty three passes

(33:54):
is beyond tackling, right, I mean tackling. You've got to
do something there where it's not three hundred and seventy
nine yards of passing in a couple of touchdowns. But
I mean, what about just not allowing him to complete
passes at an eighty or ninety percent clip.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
Yeah, that was the first game they didn't get any
pressure and they didn't touch Mayfield until eight minutes left
in the game. The safety blitz by the Anthony Bell
was not only the first sect but the first hit
on the quarterback with eight minutes left in the game. Yeah,
you're gonna give up tons of yards and completions if
you do that in this league. But before that, and
actually he could go back to before five point fifty

(34:29):
left in the game. In Arizona, they were the best
pressure rate team in the league eighty plus percent at
the time, and they were using formed down linemen and
they were getting forty plus percent pressure rates, which is
like when you blitz all the time, usually get presser
rates like that, and they weren't blitzing, so he tried
blitzing more as the game went on against Tampa, but

(34:50):
his blitzers were depleted. Derek Hall was injured, Devin Weisman
wasn't playing, Julian Love wasn't playing, so they had Tyle
Ktta blitzing, and Tyo Kotta was just running into the
line and getting swallowed by three hundred pound lineman. It
was a useless endeavor to blitz tyle Katta and that
seemed to be who he wanted to blitz because he
was afraid of using his corners to blitz because he

(35:13):
didn't want to give up the few cover guys he
had left. Devin Witherspoon may play, he's not practicing yet
and we'll see how this week goes through him, and
same with Julian Love. If those two guys come back,
those are two of your primary blitzers out of the
secondary and now he has more options in coverage in
and blitzing. But you can bet that he's coming up

(35:35):
with a different plan this week against Trevor Lawrence to
get more pressure than he did on Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Last thing today. Let's jump to the offensive side of
the ball for an offensive question.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Is it time to just scrap the Jalen Milroe package idea.
I mean, they're zero for three in trying to use
it in games. Maybe he's not quite ready for that.
Maybe they don't get enough time to practice it. Are
they thinking about tabling it for a while, or what's
the situation with that?

Speaker 7 (36:06):
Well?

Speaker 6 (36:06):
I intended to ask more about that today when I
got out there, but I would say it's not fair
to to Milroe to put him in for one play
in three of the five games. I mean, it's like
not even cameos. It's like lightning strike. Oh here he is,
and I was gone. Kenneth Walker told me after the
game that they had practiced that pitch option play quite

(36:27):
a bit and that it just didn't execute it as
we had practiced it. But it doesn't appear that practicing
is the issue.

Speaker 7 (36:36):
To me.

Speaker 6 (36:36):
It's the issue of doing it more than once. And
so far, the three times they've done it, it's all
been on runs. So you can stack the box and
crowd the line and bring everybody off the edge and
run blitz and pretty much be assured so far that
Milroe is only going to run the ball, and they
haven't shown that they trust him to pass the ball
in the game, so it's not like there's a huge secret.

(36:57):
What's going to happen when number six comes in. Gonna
run something either up the middle, around the end. That's
what they've done. I don't think it's fair to say
Milroe is not ready when he's only had three opportunities
in five games. If they're gonna do it, it needs
to be more than once. If they're not going to
do it, then it means to be zero. But this
half in, half out thing is just wasting everybody's time

(37:19):
and it's wasting downs and to me, they haven't fully committed,
not even halfway committed to it yet to make it work.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
All right, Greg, thank you Sarah for joining us, So
we do appreciate it. We're kind of in the midst
of we got baseball up to our elbows.

Speaker 7 (37:35):
Yeah, I understand.

Speaker 6 (37:36):
Yeah, enjoyed destrois okay? Are you downtown?

Speaker 10 (37:41):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (37:41):
Yeah? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
We are actually really conveniently located to the Irheart studios
and of the ballpark, So it's been it's been a
lot of fun.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
When I was doing when Monday night games and then
do a Tuesday show from there. I was doing some
studio in the suburbs. I'm guid your downtown. Yeah, I
think they're gonna do it today. It would really behoove
them to give a couple of days off to their closer.
Doesn't need to pitch too many more times. It's too
bad they can't rely on more than three relievers at
this point, but so be it never works, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
All right, Greg, thank you. We'll talk to you Friday.
I think I think that's how the game is.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
Yeah, all right, Greg Bell, our Seahawks insider, joining us
right here on chuckin Buck in the morning. Of course,
follow Greg at gmail, Seattle there on x and at
the News Tribune dot com, and we'll get back into
our baseball conversations coming up in our next segment. Matt Brash,
we'll be joining us here on the radio program. Plus
we'll play some factor fiction at seven thirty five Sports

(38:40):
Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Why from Detroit, your.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Own for Husky Football probably presents our weekly visit with
a voice of the Dogs, Cam Cleveland h Purfore, let's
go run to you by Warrior Injury log battle tested.
Now he's chucking by with the former Husky tight end
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Oh Caam Cleveland played football too. I thought he was
just like a slugging baseball Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
I think he ended up making a career of that
rightball thing.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
He wandered over to that.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
Maybe not the maybe not the smartest decision, because he
was really good at baseball.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Good at baseball. Yeah, that's a that's.

Speaker 5 (39:24):
A better sport.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
That's how I knew him, baseball player, Cam Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Eight o'clock hour. Here it is Chuck and Buck. We
are live from Detroit, Michigan.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
We are on the road for the American League Divisional Series.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
So we were here yesterday for yesterday's program and the
post game. We're here today.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
We'll be doing the post game tonight, and then of course,
so we'll be here tomorrow morning as well to recap
what happened here in Games three and four of the
American League Divisional Series. We'll get back to discussing it
with Angie Mentink at eight thirty. Also, Ryan Healey's joining
us today and we still have the ABC's of the
MS to get to joining us every Wednesday. Former Husky
tied end and the current color analyst of Husky's Football.

(40:05):
Right here on the flagship of Husky's Football Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM, Cam Cleveland is with us.

Speaker 10 (40:12):
Good morning, sir, gentlemen, early for you. And by the way,
baseball's on her mind. I mean we want to talk football,
but I mean baseball is just on her mind. I mean,
if you admit's not, you're just not a true sportsman
right now.

Speaker 7 (40:26):
You just aren't.

Speaker 10 (40:27):
It's just built into I was a little nervous bit
my nails a little bit in the night innings. Good
to see on that double play after JP bounced it
and then went yatzi on his next AB. So I'm
feeling good of one more boys, just one more and more.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Yeah, yeah, win in advance. That's what it's all about.
When in advance? Did you play baseball at UDUB?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
I mean, I know we were joking about it at
the top, but I know you were a baseball player.
Did you played at U DUB?

Speaker 10 (40:53):
Right, I played three years of baseball. Lawyer Milloy and
I were teammates. Who were the last two. I was
a first base in fielder and doubled up, played in
a practice once and then went out to spring and
then played in the second half of a double header
after practicing football. So it's it was a little different.
I don't know very many people they can do that now.
I don't even know they let them do that nowadays.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
It's very rare.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
But you were the first basically, yeah, pretty much, yeah,
exactly right.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
Some people compare you to and Bow I think more so.

Speaker 7 (41:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (41:26):
I mean, just big, big, redheaded gingers at first base.

Speaker 7 (41:28):
I mean, come on, but you know what I'm talking about, right,
I'm scrap.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
You want to take it the other way, you know, scrap.

Speaker 10 (41:37):
With the best of them. Dude, don't throw me an
outside pitch. It's gone, see you don't, I mean, don't
hang it there.

Speaker 7 (41:42):
It's not happens.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
And all right, so you were going yard apo, you
were just trying to slap it through the forehole right.

Speaker 7 (41:50):
Like the whole all all Fields.

Speaker 10 (41:53):
My friends still had the Little league home run record
back in my hometown All Fields All.

Speaker 5 (41:58):
Fields because you got to go to you when you're ten.

Speaker 7 (42:02):
Well, that's not fair.

Speaker 10 (42:03):
I was a five to eleven hundred and sixty five
pounds twelve year old it's say, I mean, make any
sense exactly.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
I wasn't too far off by the way, of course
you kept growing.

Speaker 5 (42:15):
I didn't.

Speaker 6 (42:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
Yeah, Oh you're the early kid.

Speaker 10 (42:19):
Oh you're early kid with armpit hair, and everyone's going
with kids. He's scary. Yeah, I know what you mean.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Yeah, and nobody and my dad wasn't bright enough to
figure out that that's why I was dominating. Yeah, so
we didn't work as hard as we should have at
twelve years old with a beard.

Speaker 10 (42:37):
But anyway, my last tip, you want the secret to
be in a great hitter, play wiffleball kids. It's all
we did. Whiffleball's why it makes you be a great hitter.
Don't sit in the cage and hit it. Play with football,
see one of the great. All right, let's go to football.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
I'm with you, let's go to football. Where were you
third quarter?

Speaker 2 (42:55):
Where was your mind at watching the Huskies looking like
they were on the road to winning by double digit points,
are losing by double digit points to the Maryland Terrapins.
So where was your head at as you were describing
the action Saturday third quarter?

Speaker 3 (43:12):
Trailing?

Speaker 10 (43:14):
Well, I was as I'm watching the game. I'm going okay,
We're at six quarters without scoring a touchdown, six straight quarters.
Now we're heading into seven straight quarters without scoring a touchdown,
And I'm watching demand and I'm waiting for him to
get that that moment or that throw or a play
that changed his whole brain, or or there was a
jumpstart to something, waiting for it to be able to see.

(43:37):
Because I take this as well. What I believe in
is that you are who you are. Your full identity
is how you play football on the road, it really is,
because you're you're out of your comfort zone and things
needed to adjust, and you had a great game at
Washington State, but this was a real road trip. And
then all of a sudden, he made and I posted

(43:58):
it on my ex but he made a throw to
Fines Bright on a third down conversion.

Speaker 7 (44:03):
And you heard when we.

Speaker 10 (44:05):
Talked to coach Fish at the end of the game,
he mentioned how it felt like Jamon had a little
bit of nervousness after that first interception early on the
first drive, and the throws were tentative, they were off
to Denzel, they didn't stand bounds, and the defense was
holding in. I mean, I know you're giving up a
few points, but they're not scoring touchdown touch they're not

(44:27):
up at that point, but yeah, they're up twenty to
enough and you're going, where's that first throw that gets
the elevation? And then suddenly it was there, and I
want to tell you a light bulb moment happened. He
stopped trying to be a pocket guy and got out
of there and changed it with his feet. I don't
know if it was uncertain. I'm not going to question

(44:48):
on how the play calls. That's not my job. All
I wanted to do was see a kid play with confidence.
And everybody feeds off number two. That entire program feeds
off number two. He changed the whole rhythm of the
football game.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
Yeah, I mean, but obviously down twenty zip. You know,
after that first touchdown in the third.

Speaker 5 (45:09):
Was was one.

Speaker 4 (45:10):
I was getting ready to go into the Mariner game
and I'm watching it at a bar, and I think everybody,
Husky fans say what is going on here? The field
goal didn't necessarily make I think most people feel better,
but that that first touchdown in the fourth quarter, all
of a sudden twenty ten You're like, okay, just keep
this up. Defense, start doing what they are, continue doing
what they have been doing and they getting three and

(45:32):
outs and everything was going to go. So why was it,
do you think? I mean, I know you don't want
to get into questioning play calls, but why was it?
Did he look like he was just trying to not
run Like there's been times I thought he maybe shouldn't
run as much as self preservation wise. But you can't be,
you know, losing twenty to zip and then think I'm
gonna just keep doing this pocket passer thing and neglect

(45:52):
or just kind of turn a blind eye to how
well he can run the ball.

Speaker 10 (45:57):
I think there is a little bit of and this
is fair, okay, this is just in my opinion, but
I think there's a little bit of demand. You have talent,
you got to get them the football. You don't have
to do everything on your own mindset sometimes. But you
have Jonah Coleman, you have great wide receivers, you have
two young freshmen, and you found a way to throw

(46:17):
an absolute dart on the on the move getting out
of the pocket. By the way, when we saying out
in the pocket, I don't want everyone to sit there
and expect a five to ten kid to be an
elite pocket passer. Okay, that's visual. Let's let's just state
the obvious. It is very difficult to see in the
pocket at that height. You have to slide and find lanes.

(46:39):
I'm not saying it can't be done. Doug flute Milka,
it's not. It's an unfair comparison to say, Doug fluteie.
But when we think about great quarterbacks, jin is a
real thing. Your linemen are six seven six' five six
three six. Five it's it's a real. Issue and so
that means you have to be more creative in the.
Pocket you get, four and then he has LIKE i

(47:04):
talked about last week's, slides but when he got when
he felt, comfortable he was out one, Two i'm out of.
Here he was holding. Prior and then when they do
locket on, him that means Coach fish calls. Action that
gets him. Outside he can see and he can make a.
Decision and the terrifying thing is that he is so

(47:24):
dang fast nobody can catch, him and he moves it like.
THAT i would expect he's been hit a lot on,
film and the coaches have, Said, DeMont you.

Speaker 7 (47:35):
Can't get hit like.

Speaker 10 (47:36):
That you have to hold in there and trust that
your guys are going to get. Open we're in the
midst of seeing a young man figure out those idiosyncrasies
in a football, game to be able to make those
decisions during a game and, Go, okay when DO i?

Speaker 7 (47:51):
Go when DO i?

Speaker 10 (47:52):
Not, well thank, gosh he decided to go because there
wasn't Anything maryland could do to stop. It and then
shout out to the defense with back to back three and,
outs AND i think you saw it the, way coach,
face get a, stop get a, score get a, stop
get a.

Speaker 7 (48:04):
Score that's really what it.

Speaker 10 (48:05):
Was and then suddenly here we are more twenty four
to twenty and you're Going you're riding home on that
plane going. WOW i, mean what a feeling it was
to even get out of that game like.

Speaker 3 (48:14):
That, Right Cam cleland is with us a segment with
us every week at this, time brought to you By
Warrior Injury, Law Battle.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
TESTED i was going to dive right into that very
topic BECAUSE i, mean you ended up playing a lot
of years of, Football you ended up eating at the
adult table in the football world for several, years but
you certainly remember your college days being an eighteen to
twenty three year, old and what kind of an impact

(48:44):
does a game like this have to not only, realize,
yes we can win on the road in The big,
ten we can cross three time, zones but to come
out of that game where it looked almost certain that
you were going to lose and then you pull it
out on the. End talk about the difference that that
can have on a young football team that's trying to

(49:05):
convince itself that, hey we are better than we actually.
Are the difference between flying home winning that game and
flying home losing that.

Speaker 10 (49:14):
Game emotionally in those that you don't realize that anybody
that there's so much emotion and motivation and belief and
psychological things that happen in a football. Game just look
what happened To maryland in the fourth. Quarter you don't
believe in the big mo which is momentum that is
that's a real.

Speaker 7 (49:32):
Thing it's it happens in. Sports talk about guys and.

Speaker 10 (49:36):
Find the zone or whatever belief that.

Speaker 7 (49:39):
You can win a. Game if you don't, believe you've seen,
sidelines we'll get fans AN.

Speaker 10 (49:45):
X please stroll THROUGH x in the in the third
quarter and watch the the, moronic unemotional psychosis of fan
based but it sucks fire. Everybody and then as a,
player you're watching and out there the whole.

Speaker 7 (50:01):
Time you're, going what do we have to do?

Speaker 1 (50:04):
This?

Speaker 7 (50:04):
Hume is? It they're?

Speaker 10 (50:07):
Okay that belief that you can beat somebody in that.
Moment BECAUSE i believe This and this isn't me talking.
Right i'm fifty years. OLD i don't care as much
what people think about me, anymore BUT i believe the
brain works one. Way if you have negative, thoughts your
brain is going to constantly think about. It but if
you stay, positive like what Coach fish, said believe in
it's halftime, speech your brain doesn't know the difference between

(50:29):
a positive and a negative. Thoughts be that. Way that
is something that you're trained to be as an. Athlete
i'm not saying that it's just, athletes but this is
the way you have to. Think but you actually have
an outcome where you come back and win that. Game
and now when you're in those moments, again and you
believe that and you've been their, Experience, okay anybody that's

(50:51):
a former athlete or anybody that's had experienced you lean
on that go hey what did we do? Here, well
if you don't have those winds and you have that
lean on. It now you have one of those games
that you go, back what did we? Do how did
we change? It it's an immediate advantage to, everyone and
that's that's how you trade a. Culture and it seems

(51:12):
like to me that Coach fish found that answer with
this group and that was a moment For demon and
the rest of the team and all those leaders out
there is very happy for.

Speaker 4 (51:20):
Him, yeah, YEAH i mean the tale of two different halves,
obviously and Yet i'm wondering where you land now after
a twenty four point second half and after however many
quarters that was of not scoring a Touchdown before, that
there was a lot of talk after a few games
against not high opponents, obviously just like everybody else in

(51:41):
the country that kind of has a warm up. Schedule
where you at as far as how this offense, IS i,
Mean Demon williams is still a special, Player Jonah coleman's
a great running, Back Denzel boston and a couple other
guys are starting to emerge even besides him as far
as receivers. Go BUT i, mean where are you landing
now as to what you really think this offense is

(52:01):
versus maybe what the narrative was after you, know a
potent offensive first few.

Speaker 7 (52:06):
Weeks, well the.

Speaker 10 (52:08):
Beginning was it was a lot of. Run you, Know
jonah's got eleven, touchdowns and it was we ran the.

Speaker 7 (52:13):
Football score in every drive In.

Speaker 10 (52:15):
Ohio state showed us a few things and they had
to make some. Adjustments and then certainly went on the
road And maryland showed you a few. THINGS i mean
their freshman quarterback And League washington was, excellent big huge
tark through the. Ball, well they had a tight end
that was. Awesome but you're looking at this identity, going,
okay what is this? Team and now you Lose carver

(52:36):
Potentially John mills goes down with an, ankle.

Speaker 7 (52:41):
And you have to.

Speaker 10 (52:42):
Adjust, yeah whatever this team finds that works well to,
Me AND i say this over and over, again is
the engine to this team is the offensive. Line and
then you Have Demond williams changes with his physical, ability
but Having jonah and watching watch THE i mean both
these young wide, Receivers Dez roebuck who comes out of,

(53:06):
nowhere not essentially but a. Freshman you Got Raydon Vines
bright and then Here's Dezel boston going down the field
at that his size and some of the. Throws you
have great. Weapons now you gotta stay. Healthy the best
availability is our investability is always. Availability and you're, hoping,

(53:27):
guys and hopefully you're gonna get To carrio back this.

Speaker 7 (53:30):
Week we don't.

Speaker 10 (53:30):
Know eventually it'll be probably be a game time. Decision
But rutgers comes. In they can score a lot of.
Points calakvanis is a big. Quarterback Ry raymond's Got he's
got nine touchdowns on the. Ground so they're Not they're
not weekend another team comes off a, bye so you
got to come off this emotional high really quick and
Go we're on a short, week, man we got to
prepare for A friday game and they're making a Long

(53:54):
east coast. Trip you got to put the hammer down
on this because any he'll go on the road again
to miss next.

Speaker 7 (54:00):
Week so it's not getting any. Easier.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
Boys let's talk about just first of, all in our
closing couple of, minutes you don't Like friday night. Football
IF i remember you don't like.

Speaker 10 (54:09):
That i'm not, No i'm not a. Fan i'll be
honest here. YOU i, mean it's the. Schedule it's for high.
School friday is for high school football in the fall
and Major League. BASEBALL i, mean but we don't want
to See friday's. Game but you know WHAT i, mean
but high school football in the fall Is.

Speaker 7 (54:27):
Friday that's what it's.

Speaker 6 (54:28):
For.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
Yeah and then the other, THING i, mean you look
at this opponent On friday And, RUTGERS i, mean they've
just built their reputation on being a team that can
run the football and can't. Throw and even though they're
running the ball still more frequently than they throw the,
ball the. Effectiveness they're completely more effective now as a

(54:50):
passing team than they are a running, team or at
least they have been so far this. Season it's sort
of a, stark dramatic change to what you typically prepare
for when you Face rutgers in the modern.

Speaker 10 (55:02):
Day, yeah and THEY i watched them last year, too
and that game was now that was Coach fish's first.

Speaker 7 (55:08):
Pro, game and it just flouered.

Speaker 10 (55:13):
How they're going to see a team come back into.
Too SO i Am i'm quite. CURIOUS i don't. THINK
i don't think you deviate off of what it is
to try to load up and stop the. Run the
difference was is That maryland didn't run it as. Well
they had some good outside, zones but they really wanted
to get down the take advantage of their athletes on the.

(55:35):
EDGE i don't know WHEN i See, Rutgers they're not
going to change who they, are no doubt they're going to.
Change if you're going to make a team one, dimensional then,
uh you have to adjust and be more physical upfront
with the. Defense And Jake mono was. AWESOME i, mean
here's a kid that talk about stepping in for boot
out and you're not, upgrading but it is damn impressive at.

(55:57):
Linebacker and if you get To carrio then. Okay alex
McLoughlin is the number one safety And Pro Football focus
grading out wise.

Speaker 7 (56:07):
And tackle ability and. Space that is that young kid
big getting shout out to long Hair. Ginger he's a.

Speaker 10 (56:14):
Dude and so your defense is getting better and your
d line is getting.

Speaker 7 (56:18):
Better that to me Is.

Speaker 10 (56:19):
I'm noticing a big difference with how well Coach walter
is getting this defense to really fit and Control nolling
in the run. Game but they're being a little more
aggressive with their blitz package.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
Too all, right, well all, right So mariners close it
out tonight or what?

Speaker 10 (56:34):
Hell, yeah they close it. OUT i don't want to
see him back In seattle until we're in THE. Alc,
sorry we're not doing. That close it out, tonight get it.
Done let's go.

Speaker 7 (56:42):

Speaker 6 (58:09):
From, Detroit.

Speaker 2 (58:10):
Michigan Bucky, Jacobson Chuck powell with You Chucking buck in the.

Speaker 3 (58:13):
Mornings we're on the road before The.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
Alds that's, right doing our show here From. Detroit doing
our postgame coverage here From. Detroit happy to be. Here
thank you Snow caulling Me casino for making it. Happen
the only thing that is missing from our lives right
now is That Angie mintink isn't out here In detroit
with us soaking all of this.

Speaker 3 (58:33):
In we miss, You. Angie we were hoping to have
some road laughs with.

Speaker 8 (58:39):
YOU i, KNOW i was hoping, to, like you, know
that'd be awesome IF i could have just done the
show there live with. You, yeah you know how you guys.
Think sometimes you get out to training, camp you do
these different, things and like people are, like, there that's
what we need to. Do we've never done.

Speaker 6 (58:54):
THAT i don't think, ever.

Speaker 3 (58:56):
He's a great, idea never happened person there. Anything, yeah,
yeah well maybe next, round maybe next.

Speaker 8 (59:03):
Rounds how's the feeling there do they feel is? It
is it? Tense are they?

Speaker 3 (59:08):
Tight?

Speaker 2 (59:08):
No we led the show with, that a little brief
Conversation bucky AND.

Speaker 3 (59:13):
I to, me it's like the perfect.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
APPROACH i, mean there was some celebrating that we media
types heard from outside the door waiting for them to
open the, clubhouse SO i think you do celebrate, that
and then once you got, inside there was just this
feeling of we've got work to, do we know, that
and we're all about business right.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Now we're standing on business right. NOW i think they
have the exact perfect attitude right, now AND i don't
know if you sense that during the course of the
year that they would possess that when the time mattered.

Speaker 8 (59:45):
MOST i think it's crazy the impact that the last
two years have had on this. Team just to be
on the outside looking, IN i think it has had
a profound impact on this, team AND i don't think
right now you know this team will allow itself to be,

(01:00:06):
Deterred like it won't allow themselves at any point to
really i mean, celebrate, yes but they won't let. UP
i think that this team is is so incredibly focused
and they're, Like, okay onto the, next onto the, next
onto the, Next and they've done an incredible job of
that this.

Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Season, yeah and how are you feeling About brice going
out here first postseason? Start you, know the idea of
him coming out probably going to have a short leash
just simply because you're wanting to wrap this thing up
in four and not necessarily have to Face schooble In game.
Five and yet he seems like a, cool calm collected
character that could quite possibly handle his first postseason start

(01:00:46):
with with some calmness to.

Speaker 6 (01:00:47):
Him.

Speaker 8 (01:00:48):
Yeah, yeah he's got such a good heartbeat for, this
And I'M i think he's had to overcome you, know
a lot this, year and in some ways and times
this year he was almost sort of like bewildered by
all of. IT i feel LIKE i think he was
surprise with what was happening and and like it's just

(01:01:10):
frustrated and confused a little, bit you know about the.
Arm BUT i feel, like you, know you look at
his last few. STARTS i, mean he's in a really good.
Place you, know he has been. EFFECTIVE i think that you,
know he isn't a guy you know that that is
that is quite, there you know this season yet with you,

(01:01:32):
know just complete shutdown. Stuff but he has he has
the right, temperament he has the right. Attitude SO i,
MEAN i think he goes out there and he absolutely you,
know gives you an opportunity to to win. Tonight and
and as you, mentioned you, know that's what they want to.
Do they don't want to they don't want this to
go to A game. Five as much as they'd love

(01:01:53):
to win, it win it in front of The seattle, fans,
uh they they'd like to take care of business right
there In.

Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Detroit, Yea buckey was just telling me about a softy
tweet that the today marks the thirtieth anniversary of the,
double the last time that they clinched An American League divisional.
Series of, COURSE i was three And bucky was not yet.
Born AND i think that was the night that your
parents they celebrated the double by you, know conceiving Of.

(01:02:21):
Angie IF i, remember If i'm doing the math, Right, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:02:25):
But act that's.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
Right but a nice way to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary
of the double is by winning The American League Divisional
series in twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Five when you.

Speaker 8 (01:02:35):
Say it would be absolutely, incredible, yeah, NO i think
you guys are there and that that's really. Cool but
just seeing the city, here being here and realizing just
kind of what this. Means and you, know we've talked
about the impact of the team and how focused they,

(01:02:56):
are it really makes you realize just how how so
in one way starve this city. Is but also And
i've said this for twenty four years that just like
how much this city you, know they're, There they're always.
There you, know there's some places that you win and

(01:03:18):
they just don't show, up Like mariner, fans you know
want this so, badly you, know so ready for, this
and there they. Are really it is an incredible fan.
Base it really is here In. Seattle, YEAH i, mean
they're always, there they never, left you, know.

Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
YEAH I and yet the starved for it also kind
of creates a sense of you, know, man you're one
game away from, this but it still doesn't you can't
breathe Easy it's not like you couldn't lose two games
in a row and find yourself out of this. Thing
and yet are you getting the sense that there's a
feel like there's just something special going? ON i, mean
if there wasn't something With cal hitting that home run

(01:03:58):
to the guy that's actually from Long view with the
sixty one shirt, on it bounces in the, bullpen barely
up high enough for him to get, it it just
seems like the stars are. Aligning are you getting a
feel that there's something special going on that's kind of
maybe just the universe speaking that this could be the?

Speaker 8 (01:04:13):
Year you can't help but feel that, way, RIGHT i,
mean and that was just absolutely, incredible so funny that
he had sixty two on underneath, that the sixty one,
shirts you, know jump sixty one, here whips it, off
dump sixty two. Here but what in the scene of
that of just a you, know complete you, Know tiger

(01:04:39):
fans and this one little light blue you, know shining,
lights a little beacon for Col rawly to hit, this
to bounce up and then catch. It and he also
caught it. TOO i, mean you, know you got to
make the play when the ball comes to, you and he,
did but, yeah it. DOES i, mean this year just feels.

(01:05:01):
Special i've used the, words you, know way too many,
times you, know, magical but it just it's so, appropriate
just time and time again this. Season and so much
of that magical, season by the, way you, know has
been at the bats Of Cal rawly and when what he's,
DONE i, mean he just created that magic over and

(01:05:24):
over and over again this. Season but, yeah you get that.
Feeling and especially, hey, listen you know, what marynon fans
deserve this after everything that they've been through and had
their hearts ripped out over and over and over. Again you,
know they certainly deserve a little bit of magic in their.

Speaker 5 (01:05:40):
Lives all.

Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
Right, well the network's took, over of, course the television,
coverage and so you've missed out on being able to do.
This So i'm going to be able to do it for.
You we've Got mariners color analysts And Ya mentique on
with us here this morning On chuck And, buck and
so as you get ready for game number four here
in just a couple of short, hours what's the key
to the game today for The? Mariners color Analyst aie

(01:06:03):
men TINK.

Speaker 8 (01:06:04):
I didn't LIKE i mentioned something about the importance OF
Jp crawford the last time we, chatted AND.

Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
I mean a little off balanced, throw but at the
plate he was.

Speaker 8 (01:06:16):
Outstanding, yeah, WELL i mean he at this point in the,
season everybody is sort of being held together with duct
tape AND i AND i, think you, KNOW jp is as.
WELL i think you, know you, know he's been grinding
behind the scenes a lot to, to you, know to
make things. Work you, know. Defensively you, know at this

(01:06:38):
point in the, season you pay shortstop your arms, basically you,
know hang it. Off it's just they're making. It you,
know it's a hold. On so he's been he's been
grinding out there. Defensively but when this this team does
that one through, nine you, know just just do your.
JOB i think that the bottom of this order is

(01:06:59):
just so incredible important because the top of the order
is so. Strong SO i DO i think that's a winning.
Formula and then it's gonna be somebody. ELSE i, mean
we were talking About. Planca we couldn't shut up about
the game he had the other. Night it is gonna
be a different guy every. Night that is the beauty
of this, team and that's the beauty in the length
of this lineup is you might be able to shut

(01:07:19):
down two, guys you're not gonna be able to shut
it all. Down so you, know somebody's gonna come. Through
and that's And i'm thrilled to See Josh naylor back
in the lineup to congratulations to, him And i'm excited
for him to sort of just you, know put that
a little bit of the side next the next chapter

(01:07:40):
coming up for him in his, life but be able
to focus back on.

Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
BASEBALL i tweeted this last.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Night i'm not sure If Josh naylor's belt was from
outer space or if it was actual space and he
just wears it around like Like orion's belt and men in,
black it actually is outer space and it just fits
snugly around His papa.

Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
Waist he's got the.

Speaker 8 (01:08:08):
Drip he is for sure is bringing his style off
the field onto the, field no doubt about.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
That All, right great to hear from, you great stuff this.
Morning enjoy it today and we'll catch up with you.
Later all, right you got, it all, Right Angie, mintink
the one and Only angie Min tink joining us right
here On chuck And buck in the. Morning i'm not
done talking About Josh. Naylor yet ABC's of the ms
come your way. Next you know, what the alphabet's not
done With Josh naylor just. Yet Sports radio ninety three

(01:08:38):
point THREE.

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Kjrfm it's Now Qualm, Casino seattle's closest casino and sportsbook
making all of this.

Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
Possible and so.

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
We continue our coverage right here on the radio program
with the guy that we have added to our, lineup
and here In. Detroit i'm not sure what's going on
with our zoom. Calls but we can't see, You, ryan
BUT i can. You you can't see, me BUT i
can see That Ryan healy is joining the radio. Program
so Former Mariner Ryan, healy who's turned into quite the

(01:09:10):
key part of our postseason, coverage joins us right here
On chuck And.

Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
Buck all, right.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Good, morning hows everyone. Doing we're doing all.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Right not a bad way to win a game last.
Night eight for the final, Score what was your biggest?
TAKEAWAY i don't always like to just direct an. ANALYST
i like to sort of give you a chance to
paint your beautiful canvas however you. Want what was your
biggest takeaway from that?

Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Win last? Night Logan gilbert showed Up philip his.

Speaker 11 (01:09:38):
OWN i thought he attacked the left he's tremendously with
the combination of the slider and split, finger kept him off,
balance kept him. Uncomfortable that's the most uncomfortable That i've
Seen Carry. Carpenter look this entire series and honest his entire.
Playoffs the bats showed. UP i felt like everyone put
together productive at, bats even guys Like Josh, naylor who
unfortunate went oerver. Five he still hit a ball to

(01:10:00):
right center field with runners on first and second that was,
murdered and then he had a twelve pitch at bat
early in the game When flaherty was kind of cruised
and that was the first bump in the. Road there
was just productive at bats up and down this, lineup
AND i thought the defense played really, clean the pitching.
EXECUTE i, mean this is this Is Mariner's. Baseball is
what we need to do if we want to win the.

Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
Playoffs, WELL i think it's twenty twenty Five mariners. BASEBALL
i wanted to ask you specifically this today because this
is something that we've talked about as a show here
in the. PAST i think what's most encouraging about this
particular roster is THAT i think they can win just
about any, way and that doesn't mean that they're gonna
win every single game out, there but over the course

(01:10:40):
of a five game series or better, yet a seven game,
series their ability to outscore you if they need, to
or to lean on a dominant pitching, performance or maybe
even out scrap, you play the small game a little,
bit steal some, bases move some base, runners which is
something they have struggled with severely over the last couple of.

(01:11:02):
YEARS i think that's the most encouraging thing about this
roster is that they can win a game like last.
Night they can win a game Like game number, Two
whi's three to two nail. Bider it just feels to
me that they have so many options to win a baseball,
game and that might not win in a particular, game
it might not show up that, night but over the

(01:11:22):
course of a five game stretch or a better, yet
a seven game stretch, man that is a weapon to
have to be able to win in a number of.

Speaker 11 (01:11:30):
Ways what do you think of, That? Chuck that was
really well, said AND i agree with. You this team
is versatile and they have different superstars and just quality
depth of positions of, defense, pitching and offense that can
step up at different parts of the. Game and you
look at last. NIGHT i, Mean polonka was the hero
when we faced Terrece google the other, night but then
you look At roblaz had a big double to get
the rally going, early drove a ball to right. CENTER

(01:11:52):
i just this team looked lighter to me. YESTERDAY i
felt like THE i don't want to say the word,
burdings it's not, appropriate but the pressure of playing at
home and like getting that first playoff home win in
twenty four. Years we talked about, it that was playing
heavy for those couple of games at home and to
get that. Win they looked lighter yesterday WHEN i saw.
Them and to be able to weather that that you,

(01:12:12):
know rain delate they were going. Through that was a long.
Delay i'm sitting here looking for updates any and, everywhere
and the only person providing something for me Is, bucky thank,
goodness and he found some whiskey and pumpkin apparently cocktail
that was out in about SO i was, like all,
right they're not playing, Yet i'm not missing. It but
this team looked. LIGHTER i felt like they kept the
fans out of. It they showed up a little bit
in the ninth when they got a rally, going but

(01:12:33):
by that point we Had Senor smoke. WAITING i didn't
want to use, him but if he needed a nine
pitch touch and field yesterday in that game to stay,
involved Then i'm okay with.

Speaker 7 (01:12:41):
It.

Speaker 4 (01:12:42):
Yeah, heally how important is it when you feel like
the depth of your lineup creates a sense of lightness
if you, will to where you don't have to feel
LIKE i gotta get it done or we're not going
to get it. Done because we've watched that for years
with this offense and, yea now the length in this
line kind of creates a sense of. FREEDOM i think
maybe lightness the way you put, IT i, mean how

(01:13:04):
important is, that especially when the moment gets as big
as it does in the.

Speaker 11 (01:13:07):
Playoffs that's a great, Point, Bucky AND i think as
a as an offensive, player outs can feel like almost
in your death. Experience sometimes with twister runners in scoring,
position the game's getting, later the pressure is starting to.
Build every single time you make it out and don't
come through your, team it feels like the end of the.
World AND i didn't feel that. YESTERDAY i felt almost

(01:13:27):
like energy AND i talk About Josh naylor a lot,
too because you know he hasn't had that first. Hit
but when WHEN Jp crawford hit his home, run who
was in the tops bet to the top, step cheering
over the, rail pointing At JP's he's rounding, First, like
there's there's ways to transfer, energy good and bad to
throughout your. Teammates AND i feel like right, now regardless
of if someone's coming through or, not they're transferring positive

(01:13:50):
energy to the next guy and then they're coming through for.
Them and also Cal rawley is just leading from the
front right, now the way that he's executing not just
home runs but bass. Hits he is leading from the
front and the rest of following suit and really contributing.

Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
Well Brian healy is whether it's Former mariner third baseman
and first BASEMAN dh on the squad and he joins
us here on the radio. Program he's joining us throughout
the postseason to cover Some mariners playoff. Baseball Here mariners
win it last night by a final score of eight to,
four and so here you've got an, Opportunity ryan to

(01:14:25):
close this thing out.

Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Today do you go after it like it is a game?
FIVE i Mean you've got scooball one In game. Five
sure it's at, home BUT i would imagine The mariners
would like to avoid. That so do you treat Today
Bryce miller's start a bullpen that everybody could pitch? Today
do you kind of treat it like not a must,

(01:14:48):
win but let's just close it out today and we're
going To we're gonna do whatever it takes to win this.

Speaker 11 (01:14:53):
Game that's a great question for the managers in the
front office making decisions pre game as they're kind of
navigating what the pitching is going to look. Like, obviously
we Know Bryce miller's going to, start but based off
of the seasons he, had we're assuming there's going to
be a pretty quick hook in. There they Left gilbert
in there yesterday in the fifth inning When carper came
up a game with first and. Third that's happened almost

(01:15:14):
every game in the fifth, inning like Carry carpenter's up
with first and. Third BUT i feel like they will
be more, aggressive not because it's a must, win but
because there's an off day to follow and travel.

Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
DAY i believe that's correct they're.

Speaker 11 (01:15:25):
Playing they would Play game five at home with an off,
day so they would have rest for the, bullpen SO
i think they're going to exhaust the arms in the
bullpen today and if they see opportunities to bring different bodies,
in they. WILL i don't like saying must, win but
you might see more aggressive managerial decisions, today especially in
the pitching.

Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
Side, yeah one hundred. Percent what do you say to
a dude a? TEAMMATE i, mean the team goes. Out
there was a really solid all around. Game not that everybody,
contributed but for the most, part you had guys at
the bottom and the guys at the top that contributed
offensively and good pitching from everyone except For Caleb. FERGUSON i,
mean what are you, saying is a teammate to? Him

(01:16:01):
because you're still going to need him if you end
up wanting to see this this ride last for the
for the rest of this, month you're gonna need him
to come out. There it was this just one where
he's kind of a soft. Guy he pitches the, contact
gets a lot of ground. Balls you hope they go
to somebody or was this something that you're, Thinking you know, what,
dude you're kind of getting bumped. Down we're not going
to be able to bring you in in any high

(01:16:22):
leverage situation based on how poorly you you your outcome was.

Speaker 11 (01:16:26):
Yesterday that's a great, question and they can go one
of two. Ways they can completely write them off and
say we're gonna forget about, you or it's a really
great opportunity to reinforce some confidence into a, pitcher especially
a lefty that you're gonna need down the stretch here
and the lefties matchups out of the bullpen have been
really important for this this lefty Heavy tiger's line up.

(01:16:46):
Here so DON'T i don't see that, happening meaning writing them.
Off they'll be very strategic of when that opportunity. Comes
Obviously spiers been the guy that is hired. Leverage but
If i'm, Them i'm If i'm If I'm Dan, Wilson
i'm trying to Get ferguson in there, today depending on
what that the game is flowing like and looking like the,
quicker you get him.

Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
Back on the horse and more comfortably he.

Speaker 11 (01:17:03):
Is, mean that escalated really quickly on, him And i'm
not going to sit here and say he pitched. Terrible
it was a knock and then a walk and then
the double bit Toorkals in and then another. Knock it's, Like,
wow that escalated really. Quickly that's so quickly the stuff can.

Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
Happen in the. Game it's not because he's a bad.

Speaker 11 (01:17:17):
Pitcher that was just the last little bit of fight
that The tigers, had and unfortunately Fergus hon was on
the receiving end of.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
It, WELL i Liked ziam used as he was. Acquired
you're a specialty. Guy that was not a specialty situation last.
Night i'd rather use It jackson. There quite, FRANKLY i
mean good. POINT i don't want to criticize an eight
to four, win But i'd have gone With Luke jackson
there with a seven run, lead and let's Get ferguson
back to being used the way that he's supposed to be,

(01:17:43):
used and that's in the middle of an inning against
a left hander to either take that left handed hit
or out of the, game or to get out of the,
inning and then with a fresh new, inning you bring
in somebody who was a little more. Versatile SO i just,
thought this seems hyper critical after a win like, That
BUT i thought that was a misuse Of ferguson last.

Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Night, GRIN i don't want to say it's.

Speaker 11 (01:18:03):
HYPERCRITICAL i think that's it's probably over. AGGRESSIVE i would
say that's. Realistic it's the reality of what is that
picture's mentality and what are his, strengths and how do
we maximize the situations that we have available throughout the
game to give that picture the best opportunity to. Succeed
it's an eight to one, game that's the. One Is
ferguson thrown a? Blowout if he's been a high leverage situational,
arm you're not throwing him into the. Situation it's kind

(01:18:24):
of like when you see a closer in a blowout
game and he has a pitch for four, days, heay
we gotta get him some, work and we're up or we're,
down and they come out there and they get. Shelled
it's because then the mentality in the mindset is not
it's not matched with what the situated situation. Hands and these,
pictures the relievers, especially they use so much adrenaline to
perform in those moments and execute to find that extra
level of focus they need to. Operate and there's no

(01:18:47):
shot That ferguson had That after a three hour rain
delay and eight to one, score and you know marriers
now heading towards a clingch, like there's no way the
mindset was one hundred and ten percent locked in on
the task at.

Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
Hand, well you've been To detroit, before so we don't
have to ask you about. THAT i, mean you've had
The detroit, experience you've been through a rain delay, before
you've won a big game. Before BUT i do want
to ask, you based off something you said a little bit.
Earlier have you ever drank whiskey out of a pumpkin?

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
SHELL i have, not BUT i might put that on
my fault to do.

Speaker 11 (01:19:16):
List it feels, like if if pumpkin spice lopes can
be a, thing why CAN'T i have some whiskey out
of a.

Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Pumpkin i'll tell you.

Speaker 7 (01:19:22):
This it was very.

Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
POPULAR i mean they were out of pumpkin shells before
the game Even, sorry now granted there was a three
hour rain, delay but out of pumpkin shells before the
game even started last.

Speaker 11 (01:19:34):
Night you think concession sales sales they were meeting before the, games?
Anythink and we got to double what we brought today
at the pumpkin shells because that was a hot ticket.

Speaker 3 (01:19:42):
YESTERDAY i THINK i know what to do. Next jack
And cocoa. Lanterns oh, yeah, okay all, right, yeah that's
the next way to Or Jack, Daniels oh lanterns something like. That,
yeah all, right hey, man great stuff again as.

Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
Always do you feel good about four and finishing this
thing off?

Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
Today hundred?

Speaker 11 (01:20:03):
PERCENT i like the energy the bats are gonna carry.
Us there's some guys that haven't contributed yet THAT i
think they're gonna break, loose And i'm really excited to
watch that through because everyone else is already ready to.

Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Support All, right you're the. Man we'll talk to you.
Tomorrow how about?

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
That, okay wait for? It go ems all. Right Ryan
helick joining us right here On Chucking buck in The
mornings as as we celebrate an eight to four victory
here live From detroit.

Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
With Ryan healey there on the old zoom. Call he's,
right there was the middle of the order didn't even.
Contribute you had an eight run effort and the middle
of your order did. Nothing they came up Snake eyes last,
night including the heroes.

Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
Of game number, Two julio And.

Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
Polonco even we're empty and we're still waiting For Josh
naylor to get. Going but when you get the contributions
like you did from the bottom of the, order which
is SOMETHING i repeated a lot yesterday throughout our broadcast.
DAY i kind of felt like we were gonna get some,
contribute but more than, Contributions, bucky we got just pure
damage from the bottom of the. Order six of the

(01:21:05):
eight runs scored were from hitters six through nine in
that game last. Night, man you get that on this,
team with this, pitching you're winning every single game that you,
play regardless of. Opponent and so it's just as it's
the roster is set up so, well they're just so
many ways that they can win a baseball.

Speaker 4 (01:21:25):
Game they really. DO i mean it was there's good
signs and bad. SIGNS i said it, earlier AND i
think that it's something that it's always sticks in my
head of how good or how bad is anything any given,
thing any, pitch any bat. Contact it doesn't always boil
down to just what the outcome. Is, now outcomes, matter

(01:21:46):
BECAUSE i don't care if you just have twenty seven
good at, bats if you get no, hit it was
not very. Good it wasn't good. Enough that, SAID i
think this team kind of has the feel right. Now
you heard it From polonka when you interviewed him that
anybody can be the hero in any given, night and
yet that means that they don't have to go up
there trying to be the. Hero you go up there

(01:22:07):
to have a good ab and you might end up
being the dude that gets the thing, started like robusted
or then you, know gets that, knock the LITTLE i
mean signature swing Of JP's where it kind of almost
gets jammed a little bit and hits a little filet
out there into left field or left center field that
gets the scoring. STARTED A Rose arena backs it. Up
it's all of a, sudden like once that contagious part

(01:22:29):
of hitting starts, going everybody chips in on. It, well
you're still going To i've been on the end Where
i'm the guy that goes four for four Or i'm
the one guy that goes zero for five and everybody
else we scored fifteen.

Speaker 3 (01:22:39):
RUNS i don't. Care you don't care if you right,
NOW i.

Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
Can promise You, Hulu, Rodriguez polonco And, naylor who hasn't
gotten a hit in the entire, series none of them
are feeling sorry for themselves because they're one game away
and they all feel like today's my. Day, Today i'm
gonna go do it watch AND i wouldn't be surprised
if that threesome just goes off. Today who, Knows, well
there's some fluky things that happen in. Sports there's some
outlier stuff that happens in. Sports baseball can be. Crazy

(01:23:06):
it's a postseason is unpredictable as any postseason In american professional,
sports there's no question about. It but the longer these series,
gets more often the cream's going to rise to the.
Top and maybe we're seeing that happen right before our.
EYES i, mean, yeah it's an unpredictable thing until it is.
Predictable Jack flaherty yesterday a very predictable outing for.

Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
Him he is somebody that has really good, stuff and
his numbers suggest that he should have had a better
season than what he had for The Detroit. TIGERS i,
mean low opponent's batting average, against high, strikeouts low, walks.

Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
And yet a high.

Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
Era what does that tell you About Jack flaherty is
when he does give up, damage he gives it up in.
Clusters and that's exactly what The mariners took advantage. Of,
Meanwhile Logan gilbert more often than, not just gives you
a Steady eddy, performance and he gave you that last
night for six strong. INNING i even sort of suggested
To cal that maybe he wasn't as sharp in the

(01:24:04):
first two, innings And cal, said, nope you're. Wrong he
was sharp from pitch number. One, now would you please
get out of my, face my face of the. Franchise, yeah,
no he. Didn't he didn't get angry with me at.

Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
All but, yes it was sort of.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
PREDICTABLE i, mean that's the kind of game That tiger
fans are worried about From, flaherty and it's the kind
of game That mariner fans are almost to the point
of expecting out Of. Logan and now that we have
this offense that can show up and score eight runs
in a, night, man it really does add another. WEAPON

(01:24:40):
i mean it's, Like, okay you've got a, knife but
when you had a, gun you got probably a better chance.

Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
Of coming out of the war with.

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
That all, Right coming up next on the other, side
Here chuck And buck live From detroit to Al kaneski
knows what it's like to come to hockey.

Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
Town so we're on the e.

Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Of the Krakens uh season opener at home Against anaheim
and it's our first official conversation of the year With
kracking color Analysts Al. Koniski next On chuck And Buck
Sports radio ninety three point three kJ r F.

Speaker 5 (01:25:12):
M yeah that's what it.

Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Means, yeah, yeah that makes. Sense, yeah no one, knows
but it's. Provocative You you're, Right.

Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
Maybe no one does, know But i'm pretty. Sure Kid Rock, Detroit, KID.

Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
I think babwa taba means we're going down and YEAH
i hear. That, yeah, yep, yeah yep right, here, yep
sorry about. It, kid that is your real. Name it's
not our. Kid it is his real, Name Christopher. Kidd
definitely not. Kids.

Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
YEAH a little bit later, On bucky AND i are
here In, Detroit. Michigan some people call It, motown other
people call it The Motor.

Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
City there are.

Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
Some people out in the, world like our next, guest
that probably know it as hockey. Town something tells me
that Al koniski has punched a person in the city.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
Before it's just my. Guest it's just my.

Speaker 2 (01:26:02):
Guest but joining us now on the program is our
color analyst for Your Seattle krack and start their season.

Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Tomorrow Al canisky is with. Us Ow we're fired up
to have you back for another. Season i'm fired.

Speaker 12 (01:26:15):
Up, too, Boys i'm. Excited and you, know even though
you're In detroit to it feels like you're right around
the corner as per. Usual we've got you, know opening
night coming up here tomorrow, night AND i can.

Speaker 7 (01:26:27):
Tell You i'm.

Speaker 12 (01:26:28):
Excited, ever it's, Excited benton's, excited and we're ready to.

Speaker 3 (01:26:31):
Go every hockey guy's got to have A detroit.

Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
Store do you have A detroit story that you could
share with us out before we start talking cracking.

Speaker 12 (01:26:38):
Hockey, well The detroit story is actually tied back To,
canada and it's my. Homeland it's not a personal, story
BUT i always think it's fascinating how Close detroit is To.
Canada AND i hear a lot of people talk about
going across the, border WHICH i, mean what is it
thirty minutes twenty minutes? Away but it's a very different

(01:27:03):
experience when you go across the border Into toronto versus
Versus detroit in terms of you, Know canadian ness and
food and maybe not so much, weather but people don't
lock their. Doors it's it's it's quite quite a ying
and yang from From.

Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
DETROIT i want you at some point in the future
to define. Canadianness, yeah so we're.

Speaker 5 (01:27:25):
Gonna have you do.

Speaker 7 (01:27:25):
That tell YOU i can't do that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
Now we're going to pin you down to that in the.
Future but today we got too much to talk. About
SO i know you're.

Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
Fired up for the season getting underway. Tomorrow why is?
That why are you excited for this year's kracking.

Speaker 12 (01:27:42):
Team i'm excited because of the changes that were made
in the. Offseason we can talk about, coaching we can
talk about players that came, in players that went, out
we can talk about a three goalie competition for you,
know who's going to be, one who's going to be,
two and who's not going to be one or. TWO
i think all of those things lead to a better

(01:28:04):
hockey team that should be competing for a playoff spot Come.

Speaker 5 (01:28:09):
April, Yeah i'm with you on.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
That i'll go to one of. Those then the three goalie,
THING i, mean obviously a long time ago was everybody
had one guy and then they had a backup for if,
Needed and now it's moved more into the kind of
a goalie by.

Speaker 5 (01:28:24):
COMMITTEE a couple.

Speaker 4 (01:28:25):
Guys what is the benefit of having three or is
this Really joe to coords the, incumbent and then It's
grew and the other kid that are going to be
fighting to see who is the.

Speaker 7 (01:28:34):
Backup, well it's a couple of.

Speaker 12 (01:28:37):
Things and starting with a new goaltending coach And Colin
zuliano who you, know some of these guys know better than,
others which which is always a good way to. Start
but in terms of the competition, Itself seattle is one
of six teams that are starting the season with three.
Goaltenders and it's not you, know it's not, like, hey
teams that don't have a shot at making the playoffs

(01:28:57):
are going to carry a three goaltenders to see What,
no it's not that at. All in, fact some of
the other teams Include Tampa, bay Include, colorado Include, Carolina
AND i think what it is is you've got three
good quality choices and you're not sure yet who the
two best are going to. Be how do you figure that? Out,
well you keep them around a little bit longer and
you get into some regular season. Games i'd be shocked

(01:29:19):
if we still had three goaltenders on the on the
roster Come january. First SO i think that this first
month Of october Where seattle's going to face a ton
of top playoff teams from last, year Including, vegas Including edmonton, Twice, Toronto. Washington,
like they're gonna get, tested these, goaltenders AND i think

(01:29:40):
you're going to see each of them get some games
in the month Of october and Come, halloween we're gonna
have a pretty good sense of who number one is
and who number two. Is but if, not we might
push that Into. November BUT i don't think it goes
much beyond that where we're carrying three.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Goaltenders Al kaniski is WITH us color analyst for Your Seattle.
Craft can they start the season tomorrow at home Against?
Anaheim and you have complete coverage right here With, everett With,
al With Mike, benton With Ian, ferness cast of thousands
that got you covered for opening.

Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
Night it's going to be a special.

Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
Occasion you dropped it right into the middle of a
divisional series In Major League, baseball and yet it's as
If god ordained for the divisional series to take the
night off for The kraken to debut in twenty twenty,
five twenty twenty, six you know a lot of talk
over the first few years of this organization's existence about

(01:30:34):
do they have a superstar?

Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
Player is there one? Close and there.

Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
Seems to be a big question mark about that going
into this. Year Maybe jared mccannson never going to reach superstar.
Status al Is Shane wright somebody that could achieve that
in the near future as early as this, year As
Maddy benier's ever going to turn into that. Player what
is your outlook on whether or not The kraken are

(01:31:02):
going to have a special player on the ice this?

Speaker 12 (01:31:05):
Year, WELL i think in the second half of the
season one of the conversations we'll be having is who
has the higher ceiling in terms of offensive? Potential is
It Shane, right is It Mattie Bnaer's and you, know
maybe down the. ROAD i don't think it will be this,
season but is At Berkeley cat you are really strong
up the middle on the offensive offensive. LINES i think

(01:31:28):
in terms Of jared mccannon and Even Jordan eberly for that,
matter last season injuries plagued them a. Bit if those
two can stay healthy through this, SEASON i think they
could make the guys THAT i just spoke of down
the middle be better hockey. Players and you, know health
is obviously an important part of any team's. SUCCESS i
think that if this team can stay, healthy then you're

(01:31:51):
going to see McCann scoring more. Goals you're going to
See everly scoring more. Goals you're going to see those
two leaders helping the youth on the, Team Yannie newman
for the games That Berkeley caton ends up. Playing so
in terms of high end offensive, TALENT i think in
The january To march, timeframe we're going to be talking
a lot About Shane wright's, season the impact That coppocco

(01:32:16):
has on a full twelve, months she's been a full.
Season once she gets back on the, ice it's going
