Speaker 1 (00:00):
Checking back radio program. That's right, we give you a
key to a Seahawks victory against the Tennessee Titans this
week without using the old cliches. You know, all three phases,
winning the trenches, win the turnover battle, that all that garbage.
So we have to be unique and different and specific
with our keys to victory.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Bucket, show us how it's done.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I kind of feel like it would almost have to
be a cliche in order for them to not win
this ballgame, like they would have to turn it over
five times or something. But I'm just gonna say, just
the defense, just continue to play the way you are.
I mean, the defense has been good against good teams,
good offensive teams. Last week was another one of the
(00:43):
situations where you come out of that game you weren't
feeling bad about that side of the ball. I mean,
if there was anything, it was the Sam Darnold situation.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
To me.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
The defense went went toe to toe and basically outmatched
a Rams offense. This is like the exact opposite of
the Rams offense. This is if you just go out
there and you can impose your will on these guys,
I think you can just kind of make them cower
a little bit and maybe tuck their tail by halftime.
And so I'm just going to say, just in general,
(01:12):
just defense, just keep playing the way you have been.
It shouldn't be too terribly difficult. But you got to
go out there and do it right off the bat
and kind of just let them know that you're there
to play hardball. And if they do that, I think
that they run away with this thing.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yeah, Titans are last, and points scored last, and rushing
yards last and sacks allowed. Rookie quarterback's been running for
his life all season long in cam Ward and now
he has to go up against the Mike McDonald mind
on defense, not to mention a very talented defense as well. Yeah,
I had two keys written down. Certainly. One of them
(01:47):
was just keeping cam Ward confused, and I think that
speaks to Bucky's point, Ashley, what's your key to victory?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I had two as well, in defense obviously being one,
especially if they're going to have the shutout like Greg
predicted yesterday.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
So you got to have the defense there.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
But I'm going to go with the offensive line and
just the uncertainties that we've got there, just to be
a little different, right, Sam, Darnold had a rough game
last week.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
He was pressured quite a bit.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
So I think if we can get these guys that
are going to be kind of pluck, you know, band
aids to our for our current offensive line situation, if
they can step up protect Sam, I'd like to see
him be able to have a very good game and
kind of leave last week's game in the past.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Well, if there's anybody on the Tennessee Titans team that's
that's good to great, it's Jeffrey Simmons.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
And now all of a sudden, you're going to be
starting with three interior offensive linemen that are backups. Yeah,
and so that creates quite the whole I mean, if
ever there was a week and this will be my
key where it's good that we're talking about ken Walker
so much this week. This is the week he needs
to go out.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Just Tom, Yes, please.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Take some heat off of Sam Darnald and just establish
yourf with the run outside zone it runaway from Jeffrey Simmons.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
If you have to ola.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
With Timmy's better in the run block game than he
is the pass block game. It would be nice to
keep the Titans from being able to put pressure on
Sam Donald up the middle because they can't do anything
to stop our run game. So a lot of talk
about let's just hand over the running game to ken
Walker this week. Well let's do it. Let's just hand
over the run game to ken Walker this week. Hopefully
(03:28):
he runs wild and Sam Donald only has to throw
like twelve times this week to kind of get him
back on track. So I'm just gonna say, ken Walker
being what we want in Walker to be is going
to be my no cliche key to victory. Craig Bell,
that's right. He predicted a shutout how many times? Yeah,
we hera analy is predicting a shutout in an NFL game.
(03:52):
That's how dominant he expects the defense to be this Sunday.
We'll talk to him next. Plus your headlines on Sports
Radio ninety three point three HRFM.
Speaker 8 (04:02):
Here's Shane right again below the goal line. Cat takes
it away on the left wing side. Grizzlik all over him,
Cat top Evan shoots techscos, Shane right redirects the puck
in in front. Have a Seattle Cucket tie the game
(04:23):
two two twelve forty seven to play the third.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Gotta intimidated a little bit by all that I got
to do here in the next few seconds. That's your
mc delivery of the game. Last night's top call from
Everett fits you al Kiniski on Sports Radio ninety three

the app for details. The Crack and New win last
night over the Blackhawks nice in three to two on
the road. They trailed two to nothing after two periods
of play and then rallied with three goals, including one
that carined off the bodies of two different Cracking players
in front of the net, the last one being Ty
(05:13):
Cartier passed the goalie to get the scoring started. Next
thing you know, you're tying the game on a goal
by Shane Wright, winning the game on a power play
goal from Jaden Schwartz, and they Crack and get a
nice win there in Chicago against a hot Blackhawks team
by a final score of three to two.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
That will kickstart.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Our headlines brought to you by Frostbrewed Corps Light Choose
Chill elsewhere. You'dub soccer had a banner night last night.
The women's team won one nothing over Arkansas to advance
to the Sweet sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The men's
team won three to two over Oregon State to win
the first round of their NCAA tournament. Both teams will
(05:53):
play again seasons on the line on Sunday. You dub
football will take on UCLA Saturday night at seven thirty.
Honks will get it started at three thirty. It'll be
the UCLA Bruins hosting and kickoff as again. As I
said at seven thirty against the three and seven Bruins.
College football weekend not a great college football weekend, but
(06:16):
considering how much is at stake, of course, everything is
sort of pins and needles edgier seat at this point
the college football season, so even good matchups turn into
very very intriguing matchups. USC and Oregon is the best
matchup of the weekend, and it will start at twelve thirty.
And the National Football League Indianapolis at Kansas City might
(06:38):
be the most intriguing game in the NFL this Sunday. Meanwhile,
the Seahawks will be hosting excuse me, they will be
on the road, taking on the Tennessee Titans at ten
am there in Nashville. Last night, the week got started
with a twenty three to nineteen win for the Houston Texans. Suddenly,
the defense of the Houston Texans looks as good as
anybody's in the National Football League. They defeated the Buffalo
(07:01):
Bills by four points last night, casting more doubt on
just how good the Buffalo Bills are. We'll talk to
Greg Bell in a moment, but I do have to
let you know that it is a Tito's Handmade Vodka

Now with twelf Man News, here's Greg Bell with Chuck
and Buke.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Good morning, Greg, Good morning.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Are you all right?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
When do you head to Music City?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
About this time tomorrow? Take most of the day to
get there, get there early Saturday evening.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I picture Reba McIntyre picking you up at the airport,
driving you to your hotel. I figure that kind of
service you get in Nashville. Am I wrong about that?
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I think you are wrong. I hope she probably has
other things to do. I would guess, yeah, but what
have other things to do unless it's their job to
pick me up?
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah? She seems really kind, though, really giving like a
big heart on that Reba McIntyre might read her all wrong,
but got a good persona that.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I think that if it just boils down to whether
or not you have your ostrich skin boots and a
bolo tie on, maybe a cowboy hat, I'm you're not
going to pick you up if you dress normal.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, don't be wearing any army sweaters.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
It looks like we love it or something that work.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
That would work.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
That would great.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
A gay friend I used to be roommates of mine
and Federal Away. We split a house when we were lieutenants.
Three lieutenants at Fort Lewis lived in this place out
of dash Point Road and cetera. Away and he lives
Titus Rodriguez. He lives outside Nashville, so I'm probably going
to see him.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Okay, all right, Yeah, So more of a chance he'll
pick you up at the airport than Riba Mac.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Yeah, okay, I would say that sounds fair more likely.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
All right, Well, let's dive in Seahawks in Nashville with Greg.
They'll be taking on the Titans, and certainly there haven't
been a lot of flowers thrown at the feet of
the Tennessee Titans this year. They seem like a rudderless ship,
and I have a feeling cam Ward's not exactly excited
about facing Mike McDonald's defense this week. He's looked confused
(10:14):
against lesser defenses throughout the course of the season. He's
down at Calvin Ridley. They can't run the football. I mean,
I heard one guy go as far as saying, the
Seahawks are going to shut them out. What do you
think of that?
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Greg, who's that guy? Yeah? I do. I do think
this is a chance for a shutout for the defense.
No matter if the offense plays poorly and they don't
get the run game going and Donald turns it over
some more times, I think the defense is another one
of those games that defense can win. They're leading pass
(10:48):
receivers a tight end, and you mentioned Ridley's out. If
a couple other wide receivers banged up. They don't run
the ball very effectively. They don't do anything very effectively.
And we met Jim Ward. He's a good quarterback and
McDonald talked about how he's really good for his age
at making plays that aren't quite there. But he's running
(11:11):
around and often with his head cut off because of
his offensive lines issues, pass protection issues. It's worth mentioning
again he's been sacked. The Titans have allowed forty one
sacks in ten games, and for perspective, the Seahaks have
allowed ten. So four times a game more than four
times a game against anybody, he gets sacked, and you
(11:33):
would think that's where the Seahawks can make their hay
and would sack them at least four times. If you
get a sack on a drives, the numbers in the
NFL say it's about less than thirty percent that you're
going to get a first down on that drive, let
alone score. That's how much sacks meet in the NFL.
That's why cremium on pass rush and disguising blitzes and
(11:55):
things like that. So that's four drives a game on
average that cam Warden and the Titans are completely ruined
second and twenty or whatever because of sacks and four
drives a game. Sometimes you only get eight possessions in
a game. That's why their offenses last in the league.
And that's where the Seahawks, I think will win the game.
They put him in situations where they have to throw
(12:16):
and then Leonard Williams and the markets Lawrence and Byron
Murphy and those guys will do what they've been doing
all season.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Ah, I'm with you on that.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Not a lot of talent on that side of the ball,
which you would expect when you get the first overall
pick the year before. And yet on the other side
of it, it's kind of a similar situation where especially
if Gray's Abel's out, are we looking at three backup
into your guy? I guess two and your starter at
right tackle maybe should be a backup because that's where
(12:45):
the pressure is going to be coming from with Jeffrey Simmons,
and that's the only way I could see them creating
short fields or possibly being able to put up any
any amount of points.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Really, yeah, Bucky, Jeffrey Simmons can wreck the game by himself.
The most surprising I saw the week so far was
Grey Zabel on the practice field yesterday. He was looking
like he was fully participating in the part we were
allowed to watch. They listened to him as a limited participant.
He didn't practice Wednesday. He did practice yesterday, which is
only four days after. He was on his knees and
(13:14):
face down on the turf, looking like he was seriously
injured against the Rams, so that is a good sign that,
as Mike mcconubs said, it's not a serious injury. The
calculus now becomes, do we want to put him into
this game and give it or give him another weekend
to rest and be ready for the following well not
just next week, but the next six games to end
the regular season. Zabel, of course, is pushing to play.
(13:39):
That's his personality. I asked Kubiak, are all the trades
that we talk about with Zabel, where's his toughness rank?
And he said he's a little gangster. Little for six
six three fifteen, you can call him a little gangster,
but he said he is. The look Kubiak, the offensive
corner said, the look that Zabel gave him when he
asked him after the Rams game, are you all right?
(14:00):
The look he gave him saying I'm coming back, and
he made it seem to him like he was gonna
play this week. That'll be interesting whether they want to
run him out there or would they give him the
weekend off. We've mentioned Seahawks historically have been conservative medically
and having guys rest that maybe could play, but on
the erring on the side of getting him for the
(14:21):
longer term. Let's see if they do that was able.
If they don't, Christian Haynes is on the spot because
Jeffrey Simmons usually lines up on the right side of
the Titans defensive line. He moves around, but his primary
places interior right defensive tackle out to end. He plays
over the center out to end, and if he's the
(14:42):
right defensive tackle, that's right opposite of Christian Haynes or
whoever the left guard is. So that would be the
biggest matchup for Seattle to wreck their day. Haines is
getting would get his first start. Of course, we've talked
about he was on injured reserve for all season. He's
been preparing up to now if he's going to start
until he was able walked out on the practice field yesterday.
(15:03):
Johnsondell is uninjured reserve as we know, with Timmy starting
at center and Anthony Bravers had his problems at right guard.
If I'm the Titans defense, that's where my game plan
is going right through those three guys and that's the
key to the game.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Mm yeah, what other injuries risks could affect this game
for the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Well, yesterday Ernest Jones. You remember he played in the
LA game with the big rap on his knee after
missing one game with the knee injury, the Washington knee injury.
He full go practice Wednesday looked like oh okay. I
think he came out of it well from the game,
and then yesterday he was a limited participant that could
have been rest. We're in that point where we didn't
talk to McDonald since before Wednesday's practice and won't again
(15:47):
until after Fridays. But Jones took a step back at
least to decelerate a little bit yesterday. We'll see what
that means today. On the injured list, Robbie Utz has
been gone all week for what the team is calling
a personal matter. He hasn't made to practice Wednesday or Thursday.
And Tory Horton has been on the field and this
is a lucky he's going to play again this week.
(16:07):
The wide receiver Jay Is.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
This a week where you figure Kubiak might really put
the pedal to the medal with ken Walker or is
this another one where, considering it's an opponent you feel
like you should win, that you're going to We might
see even more of Zach Charbonnay or George Halawney.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Well lucky they don't game plan into a week saying well, well,
we should both raise this team by three touchdowns, so
when we get up to two touchdowns, let's do this.
So they'll come in with a game plan of winning
the game. And if you believe McDonald to face value
of his words, that will mean a much fuller Kenneth
Walker as the running back one. So I'm expecting that
(16:46):
I'm expecting him to get the ball more in short yardage.
I'm expecting him to get the ball and stay in
the lineup more when they're inside the ten and twenty
yard lines. Those two and now the third down. I
think Sharvony's going to remain the third down back by
and large and then two minute drills. But if he would,
if Walker would just get all of the short yardage
in red zone carries, he'd probably end up with more
(17:08):
snaps than Charboney for a game. And that hasn't happened
yet this season, So let's see if that changes. When
they're at the goal line, We've mentioned it, they need
to put Walker as their guy. So if there is
a play that's unblocked and there's defenders in the backfield.
At least you have a chance to have the running
back make a guy miss. You don't have that chance
nearly as much with Charbonay. That's where I put Walker.
(17:31):
Let's see Sunday. If Walker gets the short yardedge goal
line reps that a lot of have gone to Charbonay.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
And yet you might have a week since you're down
a couple of linemen potentially that you might need the
extra help and pass protection. So you're damned if you do,
and you're damned if you don't. In terms of trying
to get Walker more playing time, it could come at
the risk of something else in your offense.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Right, and if you do that, I mean it's not
the Walker can't do it, But you're right. The reason
that sharbon Asia third down too minutes back is the blocking.
If you do that, I would expect a lot more
to tight ends, with chipping and helping with the tight ends.
They don't want to devote Barnard to tight end blocking
on pass routes because he's become such a pass places
(18:15):
because it's such becomes such a good pass receiver. I mean,
he had twelve targets in LA. Many of those were
secondary reads after he's been looked as Donald was looking elsewhere.
By the way, Donald yesterday said, it's a couple of
things interesting about the Rams game. He said, he's got
to come off sticking to just one or two guys
and go through his progressions, trust his feet, all the
(18:36):
things that Koby X says. But I asked him, what
do you mean sticking to one or two guys, and
he said, he's got a There were times in La
he just stayed the one side of the field to
one or two guys primary receivers without going through his
entire progressions. I'm thinking of the interception outside to the
cornerback to Jackson, Smith and Jiggruary through it laid outside
(18:57):
as he was getting head But you can understand, I mean,
for the up until the Rams game, we were praising
and talking about how much he was focused on Smith
and Jigba, Right.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
You can understand why Smith and Jigba is on pace
to break Calvin Johnson's single season receiving record. If he
averages what he's been averaging up to this point, he
will go past nineteen hundred and forty six yards for
the season. He's got eleven forty seven or whatever. It
is now. It's one of the highest totals ever for
through ten games of an NFL season. So of course
(19:32):
Darnold's trying to stick on him because no one's been
able to cover him the Rams. The difference in the
Rams game was one, he didn't recognize the two shell
coverages that the Rams kept changing and switching in and
out of. And two the pass rush got to him
more than in most games. And when the passers got
to him, then he had to get rid of the ball,
sometimes often when they were covered, instead of waiting for
(19:53):
Smith and Jigger to break open. So, for whatever that's worth,
we'll see if he changed that against the Titans. The
Titans pass rush is the one formidable thing they have
to go against Seattle.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
How important would you think it is?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
I mean, I know Tory Horton is probably still out,
he didn't practice right, and yet I mean to me,
I still feel like there's as well as well as Jackson,
Smith and Jig but is playing. And yes, continue to
give him his targets and let him do his thing.
But I still feel like, even aside from aj Barner,
I think you've got to get Cooper Cup or Rashid Shaheed,
(20:26):
somebody else involved in the game plan a little bit
for when you go into big games against teams that
you've played once in the season, like your division fos
and possibly the big games in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
My sense that you're right, Bucky, they need to do that,
and Shaheed in particular, can diversify this offense and really
change how defenses cover Smith and Jigba. We've talked about
his speed, deep speed Shaheed, especially if you send them
down the middle on post routes and seam routes, or
they put a safety in a bind whether they want
to continue to shell cover over the top against Smith
(20:56):
and Jiggba or have to devote that extra safety, that
extra cover top guy to Shahed. They haven't really unleased
Shaheed that way yet. And there were a couple of
times the Rams game that you and I talked about
on the roundtable yesterday that would have been a touchdown
had Donald just laid it out a little bit more,
was an example, but that even that was like a
fifteen yard route. They haven't really done home run balls
(21:19):
down the middle of the field enough to deter teams
from having bracket coverage over Smith and Jigua. I'm not.
I don't think it has not been in the game plan.
I think that Donald has just so trusted Smith and
Jegua that he hasn't gone that way. I've they he
has run some deep routes, now not habitually deep. Posted
(21:39):
puts the center in the safety in the box. But
there are times that Shaheed has been open that he
hasn't thrown to him. And that's true of any quarterback
in every game, of course. But it's going to take
a couple deep throws to Shahed, probably a couple of
deep completions to get on film for the rest of
the league before teams start thinking about what they're going
to devote to Shahikau is right now, if I'm watching
(22:00):
film of the Seahawks and developing a defensive game plan,
I don't think he's thrown to twenty two. I think
he's throwing to eleven, and I'm tilting my coverage that.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Way less than a minute.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
They're going to wear helmet stickers with forty five do
or Ken Easiley on Sunday. Are they going to do
anything else once they return home?
Speaker 4 (22:18):
I haven't heard that this is typical for players that
have been legends that have been around for or haven't
played for decades, that they honor him in some way.
Suffice to say that he is a absolute Seattle legend
and redefined the position before cam Chancellor. Did we know
most listeners know the story of how he got a
(22:40):
strange from football and the ibuprofen and his kidney and
the kidney trans transplant, and now how Paul Allen if
you don't know, Paul Allen was the man who reconciled
that whole situation and reached out to Kenny Easley and
brought up back into the fold. Soon after he bought
the Seahawks what some thirty plus years ago to get
Kenny lead back as the Seahawks legend and have him
(23:01):
in the Ring of honor, and then, fortunately for him,
fortunately for the team, it was a much more amicable
relationship through the time up to the time of his death.
So a lot of the Seahawks don't know of him,
of course, because they're now twenty some years old and
they don't remember Kenny easy with that guy do and
watching him play. He was a stud before UCLA in
(23:24):
the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia. He was the first
quarterback in Virginia High School history to rush for a
thousand yards and throw for a thousand yards, and he
had a pick of wherever he wanted to go to school.
Every college in the country recruited him. He went to
USC four year starter, UCLA Hall of Famer, All American,
and then the Seahawks pick him fifth. Over All, the
(23:44):
rest is history. But I just throw that out there
because there are a lot of listeners who may not
know Kenny Easley's background. But he was an absolute legend.
And again, he was pretty much the enforcer cam Chancellor
before Chancellor was almost even born.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Safe travels, Greg, and we will talk to you on Monday.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Okay, Happy weekend, all right?

Speaker 2 (25:18):
We go like four hundred percent more than that.

Wow, A pretty big deal.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah, I hope people appreciate the effort.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Yeah, well I do.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I definitely appreciate it. I don't know if everybody.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Does give rats aid they appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah good.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
I think we all could use a pat on the
back today for it would be nice stepping up and
giving people eight stories. I mean we could have stopped
at six or seven. Yeah. All right, let's get it
started here on a football Friday, and we will start
with the Seahawks Gin ready to take on the Tennessee Titans.
This Sunday at ten am in Nashville, Tennessee. Now, Ray
(25:57):
Zabel actually showed up at practice yesterday and kind of
look like he was going to be good to go
for Sunday. We still don't know that, but there is
a chance that Zabel, coming off of an injury Sunday
might not be able to go. We already know we're
down a Sundal and we already know Anthony Bradford is
(26:18):
our starting right guard and he continues to struggle in
that role. So Greg Bell talked about his key to
victory for this game, and it might have to do
with what's happened in the middle of the field.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Jeffrey Simmons can wreck the game by himself. The most
surprising thing I saw the week so far was great
Zabel on the practice field yesterday. He was looking like
he was fully participating in the part we were allowed
to watch. Zabel, of course, is pushing to play. That'll
be interesting whether they want to run him out there
or would they give him the weekend off. Christian Haynes
is on the spot because Jeffrey Simmons usually lines up
(26:55):
on the right side of the Titans defensive line, so
that would be the biggest matchup for Seattle to wreck
their day. Haynes is getting would get his first start
he's been preparing up to now. Is if he's going
to start until he's able. Walked out on the practice
field yesterday. Jilehn Sindell is uninjured reserve as we know,
with Timmy starting at center and Anthony Bravers had his
(27:17):
problems at right guard. If I'm the Titans defense, that's
where my game plan is going right through those three guys.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Greg Bell with his key to the game, making sure
Jeffrey Simmons doesn't do what Jeffrey Simmons can do.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
Don't let him wreck your crap.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Yeah, exactly, Thank you, crab Tree. The Hawks are a
thirteen and a half point favorite. They are supposed to
blow this team out. As a matter of fact, most analysts,
Bucky Hugh, Greg they think that it's laughable that they
are only thirteen and a half point favorites. That's how
bad Tennessee is last in the National Football League in
points scored last and rushing yards third to last in
(27:56):
passing yards. It's hard to be that bad Offensively. We're
in the bottom three in both categories, first in the
league in sacks allowed, and now cam Ward, who's been
sacked forty one times playing without Calvin Ridley, has no
running game at his back, has to go against Mike
McDonald's defense, and that side of the ball's healthy right now.
So it does look like a bit of a mismatch.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yeah, well, I mean that's a huge spread, right, I
mean two touchdowns. You're figuring you gotta win by two
touchdowns to cover, and yet there's people betting it. I mean,
but they just give up a lot of points and
then they don't do a lot of points scoring on
their end. It seems so lopsided. Now anything can happen.
I don't think you know, I'm the last one that's like,
(28:37):
just show up in Tennessee and you win this ball game. No,
you try to throw your jock on the field and
think that's going to be enough, you will find yourself
in a dogfight against another professional team. That's not where
you want to be. I just think you gotta go
out there and just the pep pregame pep talk is,
let's let these guys know Quicken in a hurry how
much better we are, and then they will crumble. You
(28:58):
will impose your will and you will end up pulling away.
But if you go out there and just think you're
gonna just show up and it's going to happen, No,
there's still professional football players on that other side.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
The variables don't really work in the Seahawks' favor. And
I don't mean for winning the game. I'm talking about
blowing a team out. I mean usually when you come
off a tough loss like that and you got to
go back on the road again, and your quarterbacks coming
off the worst his worst game of the year, and
you've got bigger games in the future. I mean, some
(29:29):
people might call that a letdown game after either a
big win or a big loss like they suffered on Sunday.
I think the Rams would be facing a letdown game
potentially this Sunday. If they weren't playing on Sunday night
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. I think they
would be running at risk of a letdown performance. So
(29:50):
I do think that this game sort of trends variably
toward that, And yet the talent mismatch is such that yes,
they should win by fourteen points or more, but you
gotta do it. You got to execute on Sunday and
we'll find out with a ten am kickoff there from Nashville.
By way, Kenny Easley will be honored. A number forty
(30:12):
five sticker will be on every Seahawks helmet on Sunday.
And so I'll tell you this much, I want to
be here Monday for the breakdown. We better be talking
about a win.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
We'll say that much. Yeah. Now, all of a sudden,
you do start like, what the f is going on?
Speaker 7 (30:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (30:28):
Then I'd be angry.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Last night the Buffalo Bills fans might be wondering what
the heck is going on. They can't seem to figure
out whether they're good or not. They took on a
terrific defense that the Houston Texans can put forth week
in and week out, and manned. The Texans blow up
Josh Allen on Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
So it's twenty four seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
But now fourth and six out the twenty two from
the shotgu all It will creep up to the line.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Pointing out the defender. He point the deal.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
Shire now becksa left hash here in motion behind the line,
Allen drops the throw, pressure comes off his back, put
throws heads.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Intercepting diving pick by Kaylen Pullock. The Texans take it
over with the interception for Pullock on fourth down and
the best defense in the league and delivers in the
biggest moment. I guess we should draw some conclusions there.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Huh, Wes would win.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Guess.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
So Texans do win over the Buffalo Bills Thursday Night
Football to improve to six and five on the year
twenty three to nineteen over the now seven and four
Buffalo Bills. The Texans, with Davis Mills a quarterback, only
a mass two hundred and sixty one yards of total offense,
but Bucky the defense collected seventy yards worth of sacks
and forced three turnovers during the course.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Of the game.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
And Josh Allen was just getting battered around. Big or not,
athletic or not. I mean, even a moose doesn't want
to get bounced around that much. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Well, the Houston Texans defense is legit, especially that front fours,
front seven, the guys that they bring, and so if
they get to you, you're not going to be feeling
all that great the next day. And yet they still
ended up somehow finding a way to It was kind
of they ended up finding a way to almost win
that ballgame. That fourth and twenty seven or whatever, that
(32:22):
lateral play. What you're like, Oh, they're for sure going
to get it done now. Then they get to fourth
and one and have a penalty. They just kind of
shot themselves in the foot. They did not play up
to their capabilities, and the Houston Texans made him pay
for it.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Yeah, Houston's defense is certainly the real deal. And I
should point out that Josh Allen injury again because it
turns out that it's not an injury. But I don't
know if I've ever been more convinced that a superstar
player was seriously injured as I was last night, to
the point where I did not want to see the
replay of the injury because I thought I was going
(32:55):
to see something Jade and Daniels like. And he's kicking.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
I mean, your own six.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Foot six inch man is kicking on the field, somebody
that takes hit after hit after a hit, and as
obviously tough as a coffin nail, hard as a coffin nail. Uh,
and yet he was kicking his feet on the field.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
I thought for sure.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
We were looking at one of the best most entertaining
athletes in all of sports, missing some considerable time with
a gruesome injury, and it ended up being nothing.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
That's when when he went down, I thought, oh, there
goes the Bill season. They're done because he's out. And
then yeah, I did the same thing I watched. I
put my hands up in front of my face when
they were going to show the replay, like to watch
through my fingers, like it was a scary movie.
Speaker 6 (33:38):
Yeah, and then I was like, oh, I mean.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Oh, okay, okay, he separated his shoulder. That but it's
his right shoulder. Oh no, he's still gonna miss most
of them didn't miss a play.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Yeah, nothing must hit that many times.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I mean, he thought he was seriously hurt. You don't
kick your legs because of pain. You kick your legs
in the situation because you think something's terribly wrong. Oh well,
I thought it would be because it hurts so bad
that you're like, oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
And then when he's all of a sudden, oh wait,
I can move it. Oh, I guess it's not. Maybe
he thought it was going to be Jaden Daniels, like
he was gonna look down and his hand was gonna
be pointing the wrong direction or something.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
But yeah, good, I'm good for the NFL that.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
It there's been too many injuries too.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Well, Patrick Mahomes in the indian Apple and the Chiefs
will take on the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. That's going
to be the early game to watch. Philadelphia Dallas is
the afternoon game, and then the Sunday night game will
be the Buccaneers at the Rams. By the way, Joe
Burrow is probably going to start this week.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
He is crazy full.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Participant in practice two days in a row, and all
signs are indicating that Joe Burrow, who we thought at
the time was going to miss the entire season, is
going to be ready to go with that toe injury
this week against the New England Patriots. Also of note,
Shadoor Sanders makes his first NFL start for the Cleveland
Browns against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday as well,
(35:07):
So lots of intrigue heading into week number twelve of
the National Football League season. College football, the Huskies will
be in Los Angeles taking on the Bruins. The fighting
Jerry new Heiseel's Jerry's dad, Rick new Isle turns up
joins us every Tuesday here on the radio program and
(35:28):
we asked coach new Isel, what about UCLA could give
the Huskies problem Saturday.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
I think.
Speaker 10 (35:35):
The player is Miko i Amaliaba, and when his legs
get involved, then they become dangerous. But getting to that
portion of their offenses, it's been difficult.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Early in the season.
Speaker 10 (35:47):
The defense was doing really, really well. The last couple
of times out they they've struggled. They couldn't stop Nebraska,
who had kind of a fleet of foot quarterback a
freshman that was playing in that particular day, TJ Latif,
And I don't know that they'll be able to corral
Demon Williams given what we've seen of him and his
(36:10):
ability to make plays with his legs.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
UCLA has had about as strange a season as a
team can have. One and four start fired, their head coach,
looked like the worst team in big boy college football,
and then all of a sudden upset Penn State further
ruined their season. Jerry Neweisill becomes this overnight sensation as
(36:34):
a play caller. They win three games in a row,
and just when all seemed good for the Bruins, which
Ashley never roots for, They've lost.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Another three games in a row.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Oh you hate to see it.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Yeah, so they'll host the Uskies a Saturday night. With
a three and seven record, the Dogs go in seven
and three. They've had their road woes too, but at
least they're not having to travel across the country for
this one, and they face a familiar conference rival in UCLA.
Kickoff is seven thirty, Hanks pregame starts at three thirty,
and so Ucla versus Washington here in college football Week
(37:09):
number thirteen of the college football season, though, is just
packed with all sorts of intrigue. Maybe not a great
game this weekend, but so many things could happen.
Speaker 7 (37:19):
Well, what is it?
Speaker 1 (37:20):
I don't know what's in it.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
There could be anything in there.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
Yeah, they're going to be anything that comes out of
this week.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
The gift, Yeah, who knows?
Speaker 1 (37:30):
You got number twenty two Missouri at number eight Oklahoma
that starts at nine am at twelve thirty, probably the
game of the week. Number fifteen USC at number seven Oregon.
I hope nobody's been foolish enough to make a.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Bet with you about this.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
I don't usually do that, but our big boss just
decided to put his money where his mouth is.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
It's out of nowhere.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
If I was doing fact to fiction, I'd take I'd
take the Trojans straight up over the Ducks. I'm like, well,
then put your money where your mouth is. And he's like, well, maybe,
let me look at the spread. I said, no, you
said it, Now put your money there. He's like, all right,
let's do it. So we got a hundred beans straight up.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Yeah, you should have fought for vacation days. They should have.
Speaker 6 (38:17):
Yeah, that would have been genie.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
You should have said, you know what, if the Ducks win,
the whole morning show gets the whole Christmas week off.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Should have thought of us about that.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
He'll just be like, here's your hundred bucks. Well yeah,
well anyway, Well it's a heck of a college weekend.
And James Madison and the Coug's also a very interesting
game that starts at ten am. So the Cougs suddenly
thrust themselves into the tournament picture because they can play
spoiler for James Madison. James Madison might not get there
(38:49):
no matter what they do, but there's no chance they
get there with two losses, So the Cougs could spoil
James Madison's season with an upset victory this week and good.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
For the coops and goog fans. I'm sure that they're
going to pack the house basically to make sure they
can do everything they can. I mean, there's the last
couple of years has been unfortunate where they got thrust
into as far as their spot in the college football world.
But yeah, you get to have something but play spoiler
to somebody else.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
That's fun. Yeah, fun full Big ten preview by the way,
coming your way this morning at eight forty five the Kraken.
We're in Chicago last night, trying to avoid consecutive losses
against Midwest clubs. The Blackhawks had been red hot. Connor Badard,
the pre pubescent superstar of the Chicago Blackhawks, has been
(39:38):
lighting it up as of late, and it wasn't looking good.
The team was down two to nothing after two periods
of play, and they decided, Hey, it's now time to
go to work.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
Mason Marshmitt, far point Evans walk into the middle, back
hands it off to Marshmitt. Now Montor takes his turn.
Montour left circle, Montor packed do Jayden slots on the
power play kids the cracking a three two lead to
eighteen to play.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
In the third, Everett fits you on the call right
here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, your
home for Cracking hockey. So Brandon Montor shoots a slapper
off of rookie and you gotta love this kid's name,
Oscar Fisker Moleguard.
Speaker 6 (40:27):
I almost played that highlight just because it's so fun.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
It caroms off his hip and then off of ty
Cart Jay's knee and then goes past the goalie for
the team's first goal. And at that point the Cracking
are like, oh, we're living a charmed life right now,
we might as well enjoy this. Two minutes later, Shane
Wright ties the game, and then with two minutes left
in regulation, the highlight from Everett there if Jayden Schwartz
(40:49):
power play goal Crack and win three two.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
I was out doing some pool, playing some pool with
my buddies and going into third period like two zip boy,
like that's tough. That's gonna be a to a overcoming
then bing bing bing next thing. You know, that's a
good win. I mean that is that's a good win
there for the Kracking.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Very nice come back ten five and five. Now on
the season, they'll be at Pittsburgh tomorrow and they will
drop the puck on that one at four o'clock again
right here on kJ R. Washington soccer had a great
night last night.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
I'm not a.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Big soccer fan, really don't know a lot about the sport,
but I'm pretty sure I know a great night when
I see one.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Hey, that's well, three points, no points, no points? Why
not gotta go win tomorrow, Rob, You gotta get it
in there to get three points one point. Yeah, that's
that's a little bit like me.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
Yeah, that was I would.
Speaker 5 (41:43):
Think if as a really good goal, you should get
more points.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Yeah, And that was a really good goal. Last night.
The Husky's women's soccer team got a breakaway one on
one and where's her name go? Why is it in
my notes? Alex Buck? It was her name, Alex Buck.
She's flying down the field, she's got one on one.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Oh, there it is, It's right there in the note.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
And she ends up getting a little bit of a
space and just let it rip from deep and scores
the only goal.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
I mean, she bent it like Beckham.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
It was the only goal in an NCAA tournament match
that sends you dub to the Sweet sixteen one nothing
over Arkansas. So now five seed Washington will be at
one seed Virginia Sunday morning at eleven am. And not
to be outdone, the men's soccer team also won last
night in the NCAA tournament. They're still just in the
first round, but a three to two win over Oregon
(42:39):
State advances them to round number two. And it turns
out that both the ladies all the ladies and the
fellas all the fellas, we'll both play soccer on Sunday.
The men are going to face SMU, So some good
stuff for U dub Huskies soccer. Finally, let's talk a
little hot stove before the weekend.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
Earlier this this week, Jerry Depoto joined US.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
We celebrated with him the signing of Josh Naylor and
then asked him whether or not he'll have to trade
a player to create payroll flexibility to add some new
stuff to this roster this offseason.
Speaker 11 (43:15):
I mean, I guess it depends what we're adding. You know,
we're always open to any type of thought, but you know,
the idea of bringing the team back in some form
to what the twenty five team look like moving players
off kind of defeats that purpose. So we're very comfortable
with the level of talent that exists on our team.
I think as we sit here in the middle of November,
(43:37):
I do believe we're one of the most complete or
most talented teams in the American League. So pulling away
from that team would kind of defeat the purpose, which
is why I answered the question as I did, which
you know, market forces will have to get a little
lucky for all of that.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
To work for us.
Speaker 11 (43:53):
But you know, we were very comfortable with the depth
that we've created in our starting rotation. We like the
way you know, our lineup looks. We do want to
continue to provide opportunity for young players. That's a foundational
part of what we do, and we have good young players,
so finding that balance. Striking that balance is important, you know,
(44:15):
which is why a guy like Jorge is such a pivotal.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Guy in our lineup.
Speaker 11 (44:19):
Last year, he could do a little third, he could
do some second, and he could d eight. He's even
now played some first base and the switch hitter. That
versatility allows us to continue to develop a team, and
you know, going out and finding players that can do
that is paramount for us. And we'll continue to look
whether it's Jorge or somebody else.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
Jerry Depoto talking about the possibilities of keeping Ari Polanco
Gino Suarez, but it won't come at risk, probably at
having to move a player of high salary to create
hey role flexibility, and I'm fine with that.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
I really like.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
Luis Castillo on our team. I really like Randy or
Rose Arena on our team. But I will say this,
I'll warn everybody. If you're not gonna move one of
those guys, then it probably is Bucky just running it
back with the same team that closed the.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Season, which I'm fine with too.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
It just doesn't make for everybody likes new shiny toys
during the offseason. I don't think you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Get any of this year. No, No, it's gonna get
your old favorite toys. Well, yeah, you rewrap, Well you're
if you're running back. Josh Naylor just got a bonus.
He's gonna run it back with him for the next
five years. There's a bunch of young dudes that are
arbitration eligible, so if they're going if you run it
back with the same guys, you're going to have the
same payroll. Are you gonna still have an increase in payroll?
(45:37):
So yeah, they'd have to change their stripes and basically
go way big if you're gonna get some shiny new toy.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
All right.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Coming up next are on the radio program U Dubs
in Action against UCLA. I want to talk about what
might be a new predicament facing Jedfish and college coaches everywhere.
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ RFM. I've been
asking all week long. I don't I know if you
guys saw this, Jordan Washington.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
I'm sure you did.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Just Uh.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
He basically runs like a two to one.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
Yeah, I couldn't.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
And he has this like strange like gait about him too.
It doesn't look like if you just saw him isolated,
he wouldn't think that guy's that fast. And then you
put him on the field with other normal human beings,
even fast human beings, and he's just racing by everybody.
Speaker 7 (46:22):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
And so freshman freshman, he had five carries one hundred
and eight yards twenty one point six yards per carry.
Speaker 6 (46:30):
Pretty good, that's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (46:31):
Had a touchdown on a day that Jonah Coleman wasn't
available because of injury.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
And of course, no.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
You can't if you're in college, you can't tell anyone
if anybody's injured.
Speaker 6 (46:43):
No, thanks, thanks for that.
Speaker 1 (46:44):
Nope. Yeah, So we don't know if Jonah Coleman's healthy
enough to play tomorrow against UCLA or not. And so
I spent the week kind of asking all of our
experts from Softy to Cam Cleveland about, you know, what
they saw at of Jordan Washington and whether or not
he might get some carries this Saturday, whether Jonah Coleman's
(47:06):
back or not. And so we just kind of handled
that question on its face, like, is Jordan Washington worth
getting some carries too? Even if Joanna Coleman's in the
lineup And Adam Mohammad's got three touchdowns last week, so
he's probably gonna get a little bit of carries too.
But now, because of where college football's at and because
of the way you have to manage everything, I wonder
(47:28):
if there is more to this question. I wonder how
much Jedfish has to think about stuff like this. Jonah
Coleman's not going to be here next year. Jonah Coleman's
not gonna leave me in the next couple of weeks.
If I don't highlight Jordan Washington and make him feel
really happy about being a Washington Husky, I could lose him.
(47:53):
What have I lost Jordan Washington because he just felt
like after one hundred and eight yard rushing performance and
then he got relegated back to third string the very
next week. Do I have to cater towards the guy
that I need to keep next year over the senior
who's been loyal to me and I to him for
(48:16):
what five years now?
Speaker 2 (48:18):
From Arizona to here?
Speaker 1 (48:19):
And do I put Jonah Coleman back into the lineup
even though he really can't help me after next Saturday
with anything. I mean, he's already made his money here
with us, He's already gained his yards. I think you
have to consider this stuff. It's not just as simple
as the senior's back and he's healthy, you've got to
(48:42):
give him his starting lineup back. I think you might
have to protect the ego of the eighteen year old
who just rushed for one hundred and eight yards last week.
Am I wrong about this?
Speaker 3 (48:56):
I don't think you're I think you gotta think about it.
Maybe even a conversation back in the day, to have
a conversation. You're a freshman. Good job, you ripped off
a good run. You look good, you look fast. You're
gonna have your moment in time.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
Yeah, and then you preserve him.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Yeah, you want to preserve the freat Well, okay, we
saw exactly what we want to see out of you.
Let's just let's just keep all the tread on those tires.
We've got our senior coming back, and next year we're
gonna unleash the beast with Jordan Washington. But now I,
out of fear of possibly losing him to more n
IL monies or other offers or whatever the case may be,
(49:31):
do you have to stroke his ego more so than
you do Coleman. I think you got to stroke his ego.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
At the same time, you also have to let him
know when you are in Joonah Coleman situation, then I'm
gonna take care of you and trying to get you
to the next level because he and Joanah Coleman are boys.
You know, they talk and if all of a sudden,
let's just say that Jonah Coleman's like, I'm healthy, I'm
ready to go. I'm trying to literally run to the
NFL right now, and you put me on the bet.
(49:58):
You don't give me my carries, You don't let me
show out the last couple of games. Uh, that's going
He's his ego is not going to be getting strogging.
He'll get you here well, but you care if he
ends up painting a bad light for you. Like, dude,
if I was you odd, take off and leave. This
dude got me to come from Arizona to hear Tony.
He was gonna give me every opportunity to run, put
(50:19):
up big numbers so that I can get to the NFL.
And sure enough, you go have a couple, you have
a good game, and he's turning his back on me,
or you say.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
The NFL already has the book on you and you
if anything, they're gonna ding you Jonah for the number
of carries that you had in college compared to other
running backs. And so I'm taking care of you by
not exposing you anymore to any more hits. So why
don't we just quietly retire behind the scenes. I'll hand
(50:50):
things over to Jordan so that Jordan makes sure that
he's loved here at Washington. Because you and I have
already done our work together. It's time for me to
make sure that this kid doesn't go anywhere after this
season's over.
Speaker 5 (51:06):
Yeah, No, I totally understand what you're saying. And it's
a crazy thing to even have to think about. Yeah,
that's like, as you were saying it, I was like, Oh,
I hadn't thought about that at all. But you do
have to think about that now these days with college football,
because it does seem, as coaches have said, every single
moment is a recruiting moment because you have to still
recruit the guys you've got there.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
I think fact to Christian mccaffre. Remember how controversial it
was when Christian McCaffrey decided not to play in some
silly bowl game.
Speaker 6 (51:34):
For saying it's one of the first people to do it.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
He was.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
I think he was the first that was just like, no,
I'm going to preserve myself for the draft. And people
were killing Christian McCaffrey for that, and then the next
year there were like three of them that did it.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
And now hardly anybody.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Yeah, exposes themselves in a bowl game.
Speaker 6 (51:49):
Just a bowl game, right, not a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Yeah, And yet we've also seen some guys leave before
the playoff games to get to their next destiny. We're
even hearing about coaches who are thinking about leaving before
they make the tournament. Yeah, to take the job that
pays them a little extra money going forward, they get
(52:14):
them to a little bit better of a program than
where they're at right now.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
I mean, I don't even know what.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
The code of conduct is anymore. To me, it just
feels like everybody's looking out for themselves. So why would
Jed Fish do any additional favors to Jonah Coleman. I'd
probably spend it to Jonah saying the NFL's got the
book on you. Let's not risk your NFL future by
playing you against UCLA. Let's go with the kid Washington
(52:45):
here for the next couple of weeks. I think you
have to start thinking about stuff that way.
Speaker 5 (52:49):
And I would like an answer too, because obviously I
need to know if very very personal I need to
keep Jonah Coleman or not.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
You gotta.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Yeah, it's a conversation.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
I think it just now the game is far more
there's a lot more stroking of the ego, if you will,
to everyone that's on your roster, and then those that
are not getting the opportunity you let them. Hey, your
time's gonna come, don't you worry. You heard that every
one while Back in the day growing up, if you
were guys sitting behind a stud hey, watch him, learn
from him.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
I want you to be him next year. And that
was enough.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
But I didn't also didn't have an opportunity to be like, well,
I don't like that. I it's not now and I'm leaving.
That isn't the way that work now. It does, So
I think there's a lot more that's stroking and trying
to keep the calm waters. That said, I don't know
if you can really do enough. I mean, he's not
even in front of the Muhammed and the depth chart
at this point. So it's if you're letting him know, like, hey,
(53:45):
you keep doing that, you might be the starter next year.
Well then you got to get me an opportunity to
try to take that job. That's what happened in the spring.
Speaker 1 (53:51):
I didn't even clue to Mohammed. I mean, he's in
this too, Sophomore. You got to figure that out as well,
because they're different, two different types of running back.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
Washington's name does really yeah, Washington Washington.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
Wait, it does sort of click, doesn't it does?
Speaker 2 (54:08):
Yeah? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
I mean I think that unfortunately, this is where we're at.
And yes, once upon a time you could whisper to
the freshman, your time will come. Now you might get
the answer from the freshman. Yeah, at U c l
A right, you know. I mean if you don't handle
it the right way, Yeah, your time will come. Yeah,
You're better believe it will come when I'm playing for
(54:31):
Oregon next year. Bye.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
This is this is what we're.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
All right.

in our nine o'clock hour, we hand the baton to
our fastest runner uh in the race, E miling, and
we let him to get to the distance. See how
fast he is.
Speaker 3 (55:58):
I think between these too, we can let them think
their way around the track.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Oh you know what I mean. If they're cerebral about it,
don't overalize it. You just get there as fast as
you can.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Well, if you guys are on my track team and
you and I'm the fastest, oh man, Uh yeah, I
got lousy teammates might be by I think he might
be all right.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Well let's uh, let's do our x's and o's that
we do this every Friday with our QB one. And
we had a conversation earlier about Sam Darnold, and look,
we all acknowledge he played a bad game. And I'll
go as far as saying he cost the Seahawks chance
to win that game. Well, they had a chance to
win the game, but they cost the He cost the
team the game. His play is the reason why we
(56:46):
lost the game against the Los Angeles Rams. But I
in no way want him to change the way he's
played this year. Let it rip, as Mike McDonald said
after the game was over, And I'm just curious as
to what kind of mindset you think Sam might enter
this game with on Sunday, considering how great a year
he's had, about how bad a game he played in
(57:07):
terms of mistakes on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Yeah, I think that's one of the most difficult parts
about playing the position is is that to play your best,
you can't second the guess, you know, you know, imagine.
I don't think it's terribly unlike you know, when you're
you're you're driving down a pretty fast road, maybe the
speed limits forty five or fifty and the light turns yellow.
You know those times where you go, oh my god,
(57:30):
it's right at that split second where do I go
or do I stop? You know, Well, imagine you know
every intersection is like that. Well that that's kind of
you know, so you can't overthink it. Uh you know,
Dan Marino, Uh I got to the Dolphins. He used
to say, ltff baby, LTFF and you know, I go, well,
(57:53):
what does that mean? And is let the effort fly?
Speaker 4 (57:56):
You know?
Speaker 2 (57:56):
And you know, and and so I think that there
has to be uh you know that idea. Okay, yes,
you gotta be cautious. You gotta. You can't just play,
you know, carry on the analogy. You can't. You're looking
for green lights, like defense, tell me clearly where to
go with the ball, like right now, the fastest possible.
(58:19):
It doesn't always happen that way. There's disguises, you have pressure,
and then sometimes you have to live in the yellow
you know it's a yellow light, but you gotta you
gotta throw early. You gotta put the ball to a
spot where yeah, I eh, you know it's gonna be tough,
but you got to get completions on yellow lights you can't.
And then of course when there's red lights, that's when
(58:41):
red light is no, don't throw it here. And I
think what Sam Darnold, he he was running too many
yellows and he ran a couple of reds. But but
the first thing I would say is is the team
has got to be But if you're looking at those
four interceptions, the team has got to be better around
him on a few of them. Olo Timmy got trucked.
I don't like the scheme where you put him on
(59:01):
an island. You had Cooper Cup went nearly nineteen yards
a full eighteen and a half for sure on a
deep hook. Well I went filtered the NFL the coaches
tape on all the completions this year filtered seventeen to
twenty two yards on deep hook, and all of those
(59:24):
sixteen completions in that range, because that's a relatively deep
hook that there was not one that was a press coverage.
You got a whole If you're pressed at the line,
you've got to shorten up that route so that that
could have helped him. On the third and nine, the
(59:44):
second interception we talked about JSN, his inside leg was four.
That means it's a seventh step speed out instead of
a six. I'd rather have it at six. Almost every
team does six. But let's assume they're going to go
to seven. Let's get to Sam Bradford's part. He Sam Bradford.
I'm sorry, I'm Sam Donald. Yeah, I'm thinking of Anthony
(01:00:07):
Bradford because that guy just you know, haunts my my
every waking moment. We'll get him uh, you know, and
he he cost us, you know, he he was a
blind to the uh, the the stunt on the second interception,
and and so the line has simply got to be better.
And and even that last uh, that last interception, A
(01:00:30):
Lucas didn't pick up a stunt and so there was
no chance to get back late. But so if I'm
quarterback coaching Sam Donald, I would say, on the first one,
look Olo gets trucked. We can't control that. We we
got an opportunity. You're sliding to your left now instead
of throwing that. Actually you're you're doing a good job
of staying in the passing position. There hip hips perpendicular
(01:00:54):
to the line scrimmage more or less. Now it's time
to actually get out of the passing position and flush left.
Look for something that was first and ten. Look for something.
Maybe it was man coverage. Maybe somebody uncovers K nine.
Possibly maybe Cooper Cup. You distort the defense a little,
maybe he finds a way to uh to break off
his route and give you an opportunity. Otherwise, just airmail it, ic,
(01:01:17):
go go give the ball to Sean. Throw it to
Sean McVay. How about that he's right there on that
sideline the second one, third and nine, two point one seconds.
There is no chance. Anthony Bradford absolutely screwed him. And
so but it's third and nine and you and the
score is fourteen to nine. Your defense is playing great.
It's the third quarter, you're only down five points, you're
(01:01:39):
close to midfield. You know, just skymail that we're punting.
It's okay. How many times do you come back at
the end of the game and you say, you know what,
that incompletion cost us the game? It doesn't happen right.
It's it's the it's the interceptions, it's the it's the sacks,
it's the it's the the scoop, you know, the the
(01:02:00):
scoop and score sacks. What have you? So so with
this defense and incompletion is okay. I think that Brett
I don't know in Sam Darnolds had, but I think
that the playoff game against the Rams had been in
his mind where he took nine sacks, which with the
whole Viking line had been overrun. You could say a
(01:02:21):
couple of them more on Donald's fault, But I think
that he was so determined to avoid sacks that that
he didn't take any sacks, but you know he put
the ball obviously in harm's way. On the third one,
that's a coverage read. That's a problem. He's got to see, Hey,
we're rolled coverage, don't That was the one Elijah Royo
(01:02:44):
on the bender and and Greg Olsen, a tight end himself,
said hey, Royo should have gone on a flatter angle.
And I agree that that could have helped, but I
think that it was such a murky. That was a
red light. Getting back to that, that was a red light.
And he, mister read the coverage it was. It was
what's called cover six. He rolled to the boundary, you
had off coverage to the field, and you had heat
(01:03:07):
on his speed out. You gotta you gotta, you know,
go back and smoke the ball to the left sideline. Yes,
it's a far side throw, but if you throw with
the right timing then you've got a chance for completion.
So I think his eyes were in the wrong place there.
And then uh, and then the last one, he does
(01:03:27):
the jump pass to try and avert the sack so
that he doesn't knock the Seahawks out of field goal range.
But on that one, again, that was he misread the coverage.
It was what's called a two invert, the disguised coverage.
It looks like a single high. Then the corner to
the left over JSN. He's gonna go kind of to
the half field, and so there's an opportunity to hit
(01:03:50):
that out route. So and on that one there was time.
Of the four interceptions, there was clear time to throw
to the uh, the open guy.
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
And so if you misread the coverage, every quarterback does that.
You misread the coverage. Now you come back, and this
is where a point Rashid Shahed was running. Then in route,
if there's a defender there, you can either this is
the terminal do you can either slip slip underneath him.
That's not called slip, or you can rap. Let me
say it again, slip underneath, rap over the top. So
(01:04:23):
he's looking for Rashid Shaheed and and Shed is wrapping
over the top of that underneath defender. But the angle
is a little it's a little bit nebulous. And this
get back gets back to you're one with the quarterback,
You're one with the offensive coordinator, and like you're month
one with a receiver that you're looking on a very uh.
Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
You know precise route where JSN has had a ton
of rap routes this season on completions, but more than
I can count. Uh and and and he declares himself,
like you it's easier to pick up JSN. Well, now
you're learning resid shihed. It was a little ambiguous just
looking at the tape, so that's got to be get
cleaned up. But then you know the the the interception,
(01:05:06):
it's just again it's dirt the ball, And that would
be the takeaway incompletions are okay, even sacks are okay.
And I think he was trying so hard to avoid
the sacks, So I think that's the takeaway for him
is remember, dude, you've got a great defense. All these plays.
You know, we're the first three of the four you
(01:05:27):
were you know, no more than five points down. Just
just dirt the ball, live for another down and if
it's third down, it's okay to punt with this defense.
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
Okay, Well, I mean, is there a chance that he's
going to have to use exactly what you're talking about,
that discretion and and maybe at times live you know,
punt and live to fight another day. Because of the
interior offensive line of the seas. I mean, that's maybe
the one strength that it might be coming at you
is a guy on the you know, coming up the
middle against our guys, and we don't even know if
(01:05:59):
we're going to all three of us starters out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
There, Wilson Dell's on I are you know, this is
like the ghost of of offensive line pass that we're
gonna be watching Sunday where we're gonna be see Haynes
and Olo Timmy and Bradford.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
And Jacob Marley.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Yes, right, there's gonna Sam Darnold is gonna be hearing
Chains Crackley, you know, you know on his backside. But
but you know Anthony Bradford, you know, he's he's out
of eighty six offensive guards. PFF has him eight, ranked
eighty third, you know, and and Olo Timmy.
Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
It's it's like if you went back and you had
a chance. I always play this game from a personnel standpoint.
I say, if you could go back on draft day
and John Schneider had a crystal ball only of the
of that player's career, he doesn't get the crystal ball
of all the other players. He only gets the crystal
ball of that player. He's about to pick and you
(01:06:59):
could see what's gonna happen in this career. Would you,
knowing what you see, would you draft him? And of
course that slides based on the round. Right, there's gonna
have a different standard in the fifth round than the
first round. But just as a general rule, we say, no,
I'll throw that fish back in the water and I'll
take somebody else. Well, you know you're not gonna take
(01:07:21):
Anthony Bradford. You're not gonna take Olua Timm, You're not
gonna take Christian Haynes. All of them have been a disappointment,
and they're all gonna be on the interior of the
offensive line here this Sunday. So so yeah, that's that's
that's a part here. Donald has talked about, hey, I've
got to get to my checkdown more. Well, out of
thirty eight qualifying quarterbacks, Donald has got to his checkdown
(01:07:42):
eight point seven percent of the time. That's that's ranked
thirty three out of third. He out of thirty eight
he doesn't get to his checkdown. Well, we generally think, well,
that's good, that's admirable. What's the problem with that? His
first read he's second out of thirty eight. Only Davis
Mills has more and he's essentially a backup, so out
of the real starter, he Darnold gets to his first
read at sixty two percent, exactly sixty two percent. He's
(01:08:05):
number one in the NFL. That's partly because he makes
good reads about, hey, let me go to my first
read based on the coverage. He didn't do that against
the Rams, and this offensive line is unlikely to give
him that that opportunity. And you know, while we're on
the subject, number ninety eight, Jeffrey Simmons is really the
(01:08:25):
only problem that the Titans present to you. A phenomenal
defensive tackle. He is lined up over what would be
bad for one hundred and forty six times what will
be Christian Hanes one hundred and fifteen. But he's also
been out to the edges, you know, on the left
edge against Abe Lucas, he's had seventy six snaps, the
(01:08:49):
right edge against Cross he's had fifty one snaps. So
he's gonna try his hand on everybody. But in interior,
that offensive line's going to affect Sam Darnold because he
may not have a chance to get to his check
second third reads, as he's been talking about this week.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Hu melanis with us X as the news time. It's
brought to you by frost brewed cores like Choose Chill.
You know the mountains turn blue at forty two degrees. Well,
we've turned up the heat on this ken Walker conversation
this week. I think this show firmly endorses ken Walker
getting more carries, being the number one running back. And Yet,
(01:09:31):
and yet, Bucky pointed out earlier this week that Zach
Charbonay is so much better of a pass blocker than
Walker according to PFF. And I'm wondering, considering your offensive
line questions that you're bringing to the table on Sunday,
does that take away at all from your zest to
(01:09:52):
get ken Walker more carries this week? Does that even
ripple the waters for you when it comes to your
desire to see a nine be used more frequently?
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Well, I think that. I think what you're referring to
is last week PFF's great. I don't think on balance,
there's any real discernible difference. I mean, I I can't
even count the number of times where I've been disappointed
about Sharbonna. He either he either doesn't recognize where he's
supposed to be. Uh, in one of those one of
(01:10:22):
those sacks. He uh, he was, you know, he's trying
to chip. He just got in the way. He takes
on a block with the wrong shoulder on a pass block,
you know, because there's a point where you're coach and
you say, look, we don't want you to lose the block.
We know you can't block forever if you're gonna lose.
If and when you lose the block, it's got to
be to you know, to the outside based on where
(01:10:44):
the quarterback is. Don't so, which means keep your head
in the hole you and and use your left shoulder.
If you use your right shoulder, you're gonna you're far
more likely to lose the battle. And he's and he's
got the inside pathway to the quarterback. Like I'm I'm
I don't subscribe to the idea that that you get
a big lift by having Sharbonne in there as a
(01:11:05):
pass blocker. That's just me grading on the team. So
but but if you want to say, look, I don't
think it's uncommon to say, hey, we want Canine to
be our first and second down guy and then on
third and obvious situations if Sharbonne, if you think he's
your pass block specialist. Okay, go go put him in there.
I think Canine can be a three down back because
(01:11:26):
I love the checkdown to him. You know, I love
the draw to him. So I'm I'm going to push
back on that. I think certainly Pro Football Focus gets
more right than they get wrong. But if we're just
going off of one game and not you know, the
body of work, Yeah it was.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
You see it with your eyeballs.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
I'll trust your eyeballs over what PFF because I don't
trust all of PFF. When I was bringing up though
it was the entirety of this season, I mean it's
it's ken Walker is great at a twenty nine and
Zach Sharbony is great.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
At a forty five point eight.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
It's it was a big enough difference that I thought,
maybe that's why they have him in there on those situations.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
No, No, I appreciate it, and you're right to push
back on me. I just look, I think sometimes the
winning where I don't like PFF and pass blocking sometimes
is where they say, Okay, you didn't allow a pressure
from your guy, but you got trucked back in. You know,
you stayed between the defender and the quarterback. But you
(01:12:28):
just got manhandled and you're in the quarterback's lap. You
totally disrupted the play, and then all of a sudden,
PFF will say, well, yeah, but you didn't give up
the sack, so we'll give you an okay grade. So
I don't know. I look, it's a fair it's certainly
a salient point. Like if you are if you are
that inferior as a pass blocker, that's a problem because
(01:12:53):
this is the NFL. It's twenty twenty five, not nineteen
twenty five. You have to pass block I just as
you know, a guy who studies this tape at all,
I just wouldn't say there's a big difference, uh, you know,
for one over the other in pass back.
Speaker 12 (01:13:09):
Gosh buck, he pushing back on you, Well not really, No,
I like it right, and you know what he's and
you know what, you know, he's bringing facts though, I
mean the fact that what Bucky says on the facts
the PFF.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
So the only way that I can retort that is
either to say that those those facts are insignificant or
there's other facts that supersede those facts. But no, he's
he's bringing he's bringing it up against my chin at
ninety eight, and he's.
Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
Said it was more like a probably eighty one mile
an hour sinker that got away from me a little bit.
And then I just immediately went sorry about that. No, sorry,
it was just that it wasn't. My only thing is
when it comes to the the PFF, I don't typically
use much on game the game because I don't understand
how they go from sixty to eighty to forty or twenty.
(01:14:03):
I just watch it with my eyes and then ask
you to decipher it. Is Bradford look as bad as
because BFF has like him and Gray's abel similar like
number wise, so we don't we don't have time to
get into all that, but it's I don't know how
to judge PFF. I just look at it and go,
maybe that's something to ask you about.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
Yeah, yeah, and again that's that. That would be the
one part that I say, you know, because Charles Cross
has been you know, has graded relatively high, and I
think he's much better this year, but there was was
it last year or the year before? I don't know.
I just I remember just going, Charles Cross, you are
(01:14:40):
on freaking ice skates every damn play like you're in
Gino's lap and every if he has any progression to
his left side, like you, you are just absolutely right
in Gino's face, and and and so. But yet I'm
seeing that he's getting pretty good pass blocking grades because
(01:15:01):
because there's no pressures, and I'm like, okay, I don't
I don't agree with that. So yeah, and as you said,
great grades able, he's uh uh you know, he's grated
relatively poor himself. Uh you know, he's forty seventh and
in past blocking, you know, which is a good bit
better than Anthony Bradford at eighty third. Yeah, you know, but.
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
Hey, there's really no way to slice that Anthony Bradford story.
All right, man, Well, I enjoy the football this weekend,
and these guys they'll grill you come Monday morning.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
I love it, all right, hammer down, enjoy guys.

I think that's what I heard her say, Yeah, something

Well, I said, boy, I don't want to if you
go on not coming on? And then I didn't know
Chris is in the room. You heard me say that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
Oh that might have been while your mic was potted
down right there at the beginning.
Speaker 7 (01:17:31):
Yeah, try would you patch it up for me? Please?
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Yeah, we'll do it weekend. He doesn't mean it, kid, OK,
it'll take it personally.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
He'll cry a little bit, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
Coach, Uh, if you have Sam Darnold, you're you're the
head coach and he's had a terrific season for you.
But it's coming off a rough performance for interception performance
on Sunday. How are you coaching him all week long
so that that doesn't affect him going forward?
Speaker 7 (01:18:02):
Well, I think you kind of reference what he's done
so far, but you don't ignore the fact that you
know that was a bad game last week and you
correct it. You go over what happened, and then you say, okay,
that's done. Now we're moving on. So every once in
a while the guy has a bad game, and he
had he had one last week, but now you move on.
(01:18:24):
He's done enough good things that he should you know,
it should be fine. I still believe in him a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
How how long does it take before you start reigning
somebody in because the idea of wanting them to try
to slip it in that, you know, Hugh was kind
of breaking down the idea of you know, there's obvious
throws that are green lights, and then there's yellow lights,
and then there's red lights. Obviously a red light stop,
but you have to complete some yellow light throws. And
yet if those start turning into you know, turnover into turnovers,
(01:18:54):
then you have to be like, okay, well maybe your
yellow light needs to be a little bit less or
you need to not press the quite as much. So
how how how much of a leash do you give
a guy because I agree, I think he's done far
too good to then you know, clip his wings at
this point. And yet when does that time come?
Speaker 7 (01:19:10):
Well, you have you have to see a correction. I
think if if he's if any quarterback makes the same
mistake time and time again, then all of a sudden,
then then you have to either take change your offense,
change how you think it a certain part of the field,
say the red zoner where the things are happening. But
you know, the good quarterbacks usually can make the correction.
(01:19:33):
You know, I think last night, you know Josh Allen,
he got kind of crazy, and he did early in
his career and now look at him. So it's but
you can't ignore it. You have to. Sometimes it's tough love.
As I said with Brett Farv. You know, it's you
just have to bang it around and then hope he
changes it. And most of the time it's been my
(01:19:54):
experience that the good ones change.
Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
Uh, there is a chance he could miss be missing
a couple of his Is the starting offensive lineman on Sunday?
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
Are you going to.
Speaker 1 (01:20:04):
Hack that head on, maybe keep an extra guy in
for protection, or will you just wait till game day
and see if the backups hold up?
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
Well?
Speaker 7 (01:20:13):
Then you know, that's a very good point. I think
pressure has been when interceptions have been throwing. Pressure has
been the problem. And so I don't know much about Tennessee,
to be honest, with you very I think one of
their guys, one of their guys is really good, you know,
And so no, I think you have to look, I
wouldn't I wouldn't alter the pass protection scheme all that
(01:20:36):
much in the beginning of the game. See how it's going,
but be prepared to do that if you had to.
And but you know, this is one of those games,
guys that I the Sea Owks should take care of
business against this team. And so I'm hopeful that any
problems we saw last week, you know, are now behind us.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Well, I mean I agree, I think they're going to
beat them. I think they're going to beat them handedly.
And yet that the key to that is that you've
got to show up and not think you just throw
your jock on the field and it's gonna work out
in your favor. You got to go take it from them.
I mean, there's still NFL players for crydd out. So
how do you make sure that your team is properly motivated,
especially coming off of probably what is the most painful loss,
(01:21:21):
the way in which they lost against who they lost
to last week.
Speaker 7 (01:21:25):
Well, I think during the week of practice I would
have maybe put my foot on the pedal just a
little bit more, maybe than even getting ready for the Rams,
just to let them know how I feel about this
game coming up, and not only do that, but verbally
talk to them about this, you know, because it was
(01:21:47):
my experience that if you're not ready to play, and
you're not playing with emotion and fired up, like you said, Buck,
you're gonna you could loose to anybody. Anybody could be.
It happened to me, and then anyone can be if
your team isn't ready emotional, and that's on the coach.
That's on the head coach. So get them ready, talk
about it, because they've got a bright future ahead of
(01:22:07):
them if they take care of business against teams. Certainly
they should take care of business against and then maybe
pop a couple of the other games too down the road.
And the team has to know that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
Here's something that never happened to you. I'm betting in
your career that you woke up midway through a season
and your team was thirty second in points scored, thirty
second and rushing yards, thirty second in sacks allowed, and
thirtieth in passing yards. I mean, if you would have
just had a nightmare that your statistics were that bad
(01:22:42):
much less it be the reality of your life.
Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
Halfway through the year, because that's.
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
Where all the Tennessee Titans offensive numbers are. I mean,
I have a feeling that you would have changed your
diet the next morning.
Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
Jesse, you never have to have that nightmare again.
Speaker 7 (01:22:58):
Oh you know what, I didn't know the stats, but
that's remarkable. I mean that what you're right, I would
have had nightmares. I wouldn't be able to sleep. And
you know cam Ward, uh, you know, they got a
chance to get hopefully their franchise quarterback for a long time,
first kid drafted and all that. But think what he's
(01:23:19):
going through. And you've seen you've seen listen, You've seen
quarterbacks throughout history get drafted very very high and just
get the heck beat out of them that rookie year
and all of a sudden, it takes them a while
to recover from that. But those those numbers are staggering.
I gosh, you know they have some work to do.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
Mm hm, coach you were mentioning, you know they do
have a guy. Jeffrey Simmons is kind of the guy
that could kind of wreck your situation as far as
past rush goes.
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
He's coming right up the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
That's obviously not what any quarterback wants, is some pressure
coming right up the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
Is it easy?
Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
I mean, is this this absolutely naive bucky former baseball player,
doesn't know anything about football talking when I just think, well,
then run that outside zone bucket. Just run away from
that guy and then establish the run and hopefully that
slows you get him going side to side as a
defensive tackle. Hopefully that slows him down to open up
some of the passing game.
Speaker 7 (01:24:17):
You know, That's that's one way to do it. I
think in the outside zone, for an inside man like
he is, Simmons, he can because someone on his outside
is going to have to cut him off because that's
how the scheme works. That'll be a tough duty for
one guy, and particularly if you have new people in there.
(01:24:38):
So to your earlier point, I think there's going to
have to be I'll retract some of the stuff I
said earlier. I think there's gonna have to be early
on a plan to double him to take care of
business depending on I don't know how the other guys are,
but don't let him wreck you by himself, you know,
And I'm not comparing it with Reggie Whider though, guys
(01:25:00):
that I had to do that with. But if you
play a team that has somebody like that that can
cause problems for you by himself, then you've got to
take care of it with a double team or slide
the line to him to make sure he doesn't do it,
he doesn't wreck you by himself.
Speaker 1 (01:25:16):
I'm just gonna open myself up to criticism here, but
I just want to know just how disappointed you are
in me.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
I want you to rate this.
Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Are you more disappointed that I had my tree up,
that I've already had eggnog, or that I actually have
already wrapped a Christmas present?
Speaker 7 (01:25:32):
You know, I don't know. I listen. See is how
we're being honest with one another. My family. I talked
about you to my family and to the person, the girls,
even the grandkids. They don't understand it. They said, that's
not the rule.
Speaker 1 (01:25:48):
I can't do that.
Speaker 7 (01:25:50):
And I said, no, you know, I said, he's really
a smart guy. He's a talented man, but this is
what he does. They go, how how did he grow up?
You know what happened? Yeah, So I'm trying to I'm
trying to, you know, pull for you with the family.
But I think I got to bring them down to
the station. You got to meet them.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Yeah, I'd love to. I'd love to meet them, and
they can take me to task. Right here on the show.
We'll give them all the microphone. I thought for sure
you were heading down the road of the kids, and
your daughters all liked it. Now and they're smart.
Speaker 7 (01:26:22):
No, no, no, But I would say, if you're gonna do,
did you do the tree first?
Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
Tree first?
Speaker 7 (01:26:28):
The tree?
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
Okay, yeah, I didn't just have a present line in
the middle of the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
Yeah, I just.
Speaker 7 (01:26:35):
You know what, if we have any chance for a
rehab here, start with the tree. Don't put the tree up.
Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
Okay, all right, I hear your advice. I just won't listen.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
I will try to heat it.
