We've got Monday Morning Quarterback coming your way, of course,
on a frost brewed course light choose Chill Monday, counting
you down to even more football tonight at five point
(01:52):
fifteen with Arizona taking on Dallas and we'll talk a
little bit about that coming up on the radio program
here today. And what an interesting like forty eight hours
and sports that we're getting ready for. We're not only
coming off a very interesting football weekend, but there's all
sorts of activities all over the place here for the
next forty eight hours. And I'll map that out for
(02:14):
you coming up here in a moment with what is
on tap. But of course we start with the Seahawks.
They were given the prime time stage last night of
Sunday Night Football on NBC and boy did they show out.
What an impressive performance by the Seahawks. They win by
a final score of thirty eight to fourteen, and as
(02:37):
they say, it wasn't even that close. It was a
runaway from the beginning, a laugher towards the end. And
certainly there's a major injury that takes place in this game.
But leave it to the Low Hanging Fruit Network that
I had to be watching here this morning, and of
(03:00):
course they think that the lead story is that Dan
Quinn left his quarterback in too long, which I think
there's a conversation to have there. I think there's a debate,
and I'm sure that we'll have that debate. But to me,
and I don't think this is because I do Seattle
Sports radio. The number one story last night was the
Seahawks are for damn real and number two Sam Donald
(03:23):
played the quarterback position better than anyone has ever played
it for a half of football last night. That was insane.
How great he was last night. You can't play football
better than what Sam Donald played football for the first
half of that football game last night.
Speaker 7 (03:41):
Well, it was like impeccable. I don't know if there's
anything he could even think. Wow, man, I could have
put that like an inch closer when I was dropping
the thirty yard dime in there, I could I mean
if he did have to extend his arms almost all
the way and I'm with you, I mean it was
that was utter dominance. And I mean to some degree
(04:02):
you go into it thinking, well, okay, who are the
Washington commanders? Doesn't matter. I mean, I don't think it
matters who. I mean it was really there was times
when guys were open and yet it was thrown perfectly
where even if they were covered better, they're not going
to be it's not going to be stopping where it was.
The decision making part of it, the occasional time that
(04:23):
he had kind of a pocket somewhat collapsing around him,
still keeping his eyes downfield and finding the open guy.
I mean, was it twelve for twelve his first twelve,
sixteen for sixteen for sixteen, sixteen for sixteen at halftime,
two hundred and eighty two yards, four touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
That's pretty good, That's right.
Speaker 8 (04:40):
Not really, I mean, you just can't play. I mean, yeah,
I'm sure there's a football person out there that could
craft an argument out there that you know, has memorized
every single game great quarterback and can tell me that,
oh no, based off of the competition that he and
how banged up that they were and all this stuff.
I'm sure that there's an argument out there. I mean,
(05:02):
we've got all a football history to comb through where
you're gonna find a quarterback that had even more difficult
circumstances and still put up nearly perfect numbers for a half.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
But I don't remember when it happened.
Speaker 8 (05:15):
I mean, that was playing the most important position in
sports as well as you can play it for an
entire half.
Speaker 9 (05:22):
Yeah, it was incredible, And I just remember with each
touchdown that I was watching, and I just kind of
had a different, like one word, that's all I could say,
because it was like, first it was like wow, then
it was something along those sides. I remember when it
was the Cody White touched up, I just laughed. I
was like, what is happening? This is amazing, and I
just started laughing. I was like, I can't believe this.
(05:44):
I can't believe we're watching this right now on Sunday night.
Speaker 8 (05:46):
Yeah, and another game without him being sacked. So I'm
sure the offense had something to do with it. Jackson
Smith and Jig but clearly can't be covered by any
human being or human beings, so that has something to
do with it. I give all the credit in the
world to Clint Kubia and what he has tapped into
offensively to get this thing going. The one thing, I mean,
Chris collins Worth even said it last night, and I
(06:08):
think Chris collins Worth fantastic, but he said it last
night like, well, this is all happening because of the
running game.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
No, yeah, no, it's not, Chris.
Speaker 8 (06:15):
I mean, I know that what Greg has been telling
us all season long, there is truth to it. We
have to keep the defense honest, so we can't just
throw the ball every single time.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
I get that.
Speaker 8 (06:28):
I understand that even when it's not successful, you're still
trying to run the football to show that you can
run the football, and that's gonna make Sam Donald's job easier.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
I get that.
Speaker 8 (06:39):
But Sam Donald was great last night because Sam Donald
was great last night.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Period.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (06:44):
I mean, yes, there are other elements to it, and
I think Jackson Smith and Jigba might be the best
receiver in the world right now, but nobody's played the
position better than what Sam Donald did for the first
half of that.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
Football game last night. Well, I mean it was near perfect,
and it was near perfect. I mean, it's it's surgical
and how he was doing it wasn't just Okay, Jackson
Smith and j but you can't cover him, so that's
all we're going to He was. He was a part
of it, a big part of it, obviously when you
look at the numbers at the end of it. But
he was spreading it around. Like you said, Cody White's
(07:18):
a guy that I mean, we know who he is,
but you weren't necessarily expecting him to have some big
backbreaking play. Tory Horton being, you know, the rookie who
still only got looked at a few times, but the
first couple of touchdowns were to him, and it was
it was the second play, I want to say, of
the game offensively for them where it was that quick
(07:38):
little slant and you could tell that I don't know
how much Kubiak scripts plays and whatnot, but you it
just looked like a we're going to do this play.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Then we're going to do this play, and he's going
to be open here.
Speaker 7 (07:50):
Just if they set up any of these defenses, he's
going to be open on this one.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
They hit him and it was.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Just like a quick little gash play up the middle.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
I mean, it just looked like it was they were
clicking on all cylinders offensively. Sam Donald obviously gets the
lion's share of credit because he's the one has to
execute it. It doesn't matter if the line does the
blocking and the receiver gets somewhat open. If you throw
it behind him, it could be a pick or it
could be an incompletion. He was throwing absolute dimes left
and right, and you're right. I mean, it's weird how
(08:20):
the first impression that somebody gives when they come into
the league and unfortunately have to play for the Jets,
how long that lingers with him because what you're watching
out of him majority of the last two years, for sure.
You know, maybe the end of last season threw some
red flags up because people just couldn't wait to put
the red flags bag up for him. But he's shown
(08:40):
this season there's really no reason to think that the
Jets Sam Donald is the real Sam Donald. That was
a young guy that didn't understand how to do it,
and he's kind of learned from the road he's had
to go down, and now he looks like a dude
that not only can play the position, but play the
position as well as anybody out there.
Speaker 9 (08:58):
It was interesting you were saying, obviously, you know that
this is the best that you can remember, So I
just I was looking it up and it was. Nobody
since Tom Brady in two thousand and seven has started
a game with a pass touchdown on each of his
team's first four positions while also having a completion percentage
of one hundred so since two thousand and seven, and
he is the only quarterback since Johnny Unitus with at
(09:18):
least three hundred and twenty five passing yards, four passing touchdowns,
three or fewer incomplete passes, and zero sacks.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
And that was in sixty seven against the Falcons.
Speaker 8 (09:26):
And everything certainly was humman last night. I mean, everything
that the team did was just terrific. I mean, and
we all get into the defense and how I thought
it confused Jaden Daniels throughout the course of the evening,
But I mean, and I get it. And it's easier
to play the position when kind of everything's in a rhythm.
(09:46):
And they did establish something of a running game last night,
and there were open receivers and he did have time
to throw, but man, the progressions he was making, the
quick reads and just getting rid of the football, and
yet it wasn't affecting the accuracies of accuracies of the throws.
I mean, it was just a clinic that he was
(10:10):
putting on. And there are a ton of other things
to talk about here last night, but the fact that
the national shows didn't come on the air this morning
and start with how amazing the Seahawks looked last night
versus couldn't wait to show a gruesome injury and then
blame Dan Quinn for it. I think is embarrassing and
that network is embarrassing. It has turned into an embarrassment.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
Yeah, I mean, if it's not the lead story, it sucks.
It was a I don't know what you call non
exclamation point at the end of it. It was just like,
oh man, it totally took away from what we were
watching because it was the Seahawks show pretty much, I
mean offensively, defensively. Sam Darnold kind of the front of
that whole bad boy and yet the way in which
(10:52):
that happened, you're like, oh man, terrible that. Yeah, it
was horrible, And I agree. I think that there's maybe
a conversation to have about whether or not he should
be in the game.
Speaker 8 (11:01):
I've seen plenty of quarterbacks in my lifetime this year,
throughout my lifetime that are left in the game. In
that situation, Let's try to get a little momentum. Let's
try to get her off. Jay and Yam played in
a couple of weeks, you know, I mean, they've got
their second string defense out there. Let's just try to
get a little moment I've seen that happen tons. Yeah,
(11:23):
and just because the guy ends up getting hurt. And oh,
by the way, he kept avoiding traffic all night long, narrowly.
I mean it looked like I mean, he sometimes has
his own worst enemy because he wants to tuk and
run the football. And I think Mike McDonald's defense was
(11:43):
confusing him from the beginning of the game. He couldn't
get open looks, couldn't get the look that he was
waiting for. So to me, i've seen NFL head coaches
and their starting quarterback out in that situation. I would
say far more often than not. I mean, I don't
remember the last time that a NFL head coach kind
(12:04):
of pulled this guy with eight minutes left in the
fourth quarter. I'm sure it's happened, but I think more
often they stick with him and for people to try
to You've just ruined the Commanders, dan Quinn. I mean,
he was already upset enough that he loses, loses badly,
gets embarrassed on national television his team, and he's also
(12:26):
lost his quarterback, who everybody on that team loves, to
a gruesome injury. Yeah, it was bad enough. I'm not
gonna also lay it dan Quinn's feet that he should have.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Had him out of the game.
Speaker 8 (12:35):
There's an argument for having him out of the game.
It did cross my mind should he still be in here?
But then again, I was facing him in fantasy, So
to me, I'm like, I think maybe that's bias on
my part. That's what ran through my mind. I'm like,
maybe he should be out of the game. But is
that me with my own bias wanting him out of
the game, and then he ends up getting hurt and
(12:57):
I didn't sit there, so she should have taken him
out of the game. I've seen coaches leave quarterbacks in
in that situation probably four out of.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Five times, nine out of ten times.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
Maybe, yeah, Well, I mean it's like, okay, well, then
where would the line be when they When the Seahawks
scored the touchdown to go up thirty eight to seven,
like it's just okay, that's it, or we can't got
to pull him out now, or is there still Yeah,
the dude hasn't played in a couple of weeks. He
is the straw that stirs this drink. We have a
long season left to go. We're not punting on the season.
(13:29):
And yet now they might the folks might be saying, well, yeah,
if he gets hurt, you're gonna have to punt on
the season. I just think that there's I don't think
that you go through any sporting event as a coach
or as a player with fear of getting hurt. You
just kind of know it's gonna happen. Probably you just
hope it's not anything bad, and you hope that it's
(13:50):
not in a situation like this where people, the critics
can come out of the woodworks and start, you know,
calling for your head, because to me, it's I didn't
think I didn't think it was some egregious how dare
you have him in there? At that point? Now, it
did seem like from that point on, both teams said
everybody out of the game, special teamers, you all are
back in there because it's the what you can't play
(14:14):
any sport with like a fear like that.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
You just can't do it.
Speaker 7 (14:17):
You're not going to especially football. I would think you
have to go out there and play full blast and
hope that the collisions don't end in something gruesome. And
yet then when it comes crashing right down, and then
you look at the scoreboard and you're like, oh, man,
we really can't risk anybody that's that we really have
kind of penciled in and their plans for this season,
then you make that move. But yeah, the main thing
(14:40):
should have been and it was for majority of the
night at least from the people calling the game, not
you know, the other networks afterwards that take the low
hanging fruit. But the main topic was the Seahawks and
how good they are.
Speaker 9 (14:50):
Yeah, and they even brought up the MVP MVP conversation
they put him I mean during the broadcast, I will say,
as far as the Jayden Daniels injury, it's you know,
everything's easy in hindsight, right, And that's when everybody started
screaming on social media, why was he in the game.
Well after he got hurt, you weren't out there screaming
it at the top of your lungs when he was
still in there. And I can completely understand leaving him
(15:13):
in when he has been out and it's an opportunity
to knock some of that rust off and get things going,
try some things. I mean, obviously, I know Joe Flacco
not the same level of caliber quarterback to the team
that Jayden Daniels is to the Commanders. But they were
down fourteen with three minutes left and he was still
in the game, and look what happened.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
They almost won it.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
They should have won it. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (15:32):
As a matter of fact, I did write down though
after because I wrote down Daniel sacked injured, and then
I realized, oh he has a broken left arm. Wow, horrible,
And so I wrote all that down, and then I
wrote it as a topic, why is he still in?
Like it's worth discussing, Yeah, you know, and then I
(15:54):
wrote lock better be in the next time the Seahawks
take a snap, better not see Sam Darnold.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Though.
Speaker 9 (16:01):
When the Seahawks takes a field you're ahead, that's when
you pull your starting quarterback when you're ahead by a lot.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
I get that.
Speaker 8 (16:09):
Thirty eight fourteen Seahawks went over the Washington Commanders. Obviously
a lot to discuss. We will have Hugh Millen coming
up here on the radio program. Cannot wait to hear
his take on the quarterback play. I mean he has
a phrase quarterback p O r N A feeling, say
that I have a feeling, I have a feeling. You know,
(16:30):
he was gonna come out of the film room cigarette saying.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Was it good for you?
Speaker 8 (16:37):
Let's find out what's on tap for the rest of
the show.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
What's on TEP? What's on TEP?
Speaker 6 (16:46):
All right?
Speaker 8 (16:46):
Also, Mike Holmernold join us at nine o'clock today, so
we're right back to the grand old Monday morning quarterback schedule.
Hugh from eight to ten, coach from nine to ten.
I like to say it is a complete schedule with
Greg seven five, but he's flying back from Washington, d C.
Therefore we won't get the chance. And this is a
really good.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Day to trotlick Greg because there's a lot going on.
Speaker 8 (17:09):
But we've got a nice pinchator for you, former Seahawks
running back Robert Turbin, who's doing some media work, including
with our own Anders Hurst in postgame shows. So we're
gonna have him on today at seven oh five. Get
his thoughts on the seahawks thirty eight to fourteen win
over Washington. Next up for six and two Seattle, they'll
(17:30):
be home to the Arizona Cardinals. Next week, they'll face
another team playing on Monday night football for a second
week in a row. The Cardinals will play tonight against
the Dallas Cowboys, and interestingly enough, Kyler Murray is not
starting and a lot of people are reading into this.
You know, Cardinals are saying he just doesn't look one
hundred percent. Other people are saying, I think maybe he's
(17:52):
getting bingched, and then they're wondering if he'll be traded
by tomorrow. And yet the Cardinals are denying all of that.
So a lot of noise going into this game tonight,
Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
More on that in a moment.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Yes, Jane Daniels left the game last night with a
gruesome injury. It is a dislocated left elbow. He is
likely to miss the entire season, but it's not a
sure thing that'll miss the entire season. I think in
a weird way, the Commanders are better off, and I
will explain that a little bit later on in the show.
(18:31):
Josh Allen outdueld Patrick Mahomes. The Bills win over the
Kansas City Chiefs. They do have their number during the
regular season, it's just in the playoffs they can't beat them.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Ash to be important.
Speaker 8 (18:43):
Ashley nailed it in our Factor fiction. So we'll play
some more Factor fiction today coming up at seven thirty five,
and we'll go over the entire NFL scoreboard at six
point thirty with cold turkey sandwich aboard of scores. Now,
I said, this was a really interesting forty eight hours
of sports. Not only do we have NFL College Weekend
to recap, the first playoff show is tomorrow, so we'll
(19:06):
know the first official unofficial college football rankings for the season.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
So that's tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (19:13):
The new College Football Poll has you dubbed ranked this week,
so we need to find some time to talk about that.
They're number twenty four in the latest poll, and I
think it is time for them to crack the top
twenty five. We'll talk about that later on. The college
basketball season starts today. There's already a game being played.
You heard me right, There is a college basketball game
(19:36):
being played as we speak. There will be one hundred
and sixty nine college basketball games played today and you
dub will play the last one and sixty nine of
one sixty nine tonight against Arkansas Pine Bluff. So, whether
you're ready or not, college basketball season is here. The
Sounders have a playoff match tonight. Their season is on
(19:58):
the line, so match number two of the three game
or three match series with Minnesota United. The Sounders of
course have to win both the remaining matches in order
to advance. But Brian Schmetzer has been here before, He's
done this before, he'll probably do it again. Match number
two starts at seven point thirty right here in Seattle
(20:18):
out at Lumenfield.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
The Kraken are.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
In action tonight.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
They're going to host the Blackhawks at seven o'clock right
here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Speaking
of Chicago, the Cubs had three Gold Glovers named. Yes,
I don't know why Major League Baseball did this in
the middle of the NFL Sunday, but they announced all
the Gold Glove award winners and the Mariners didn't get anyone.
(20:42):
Julio was the only qualifier and he did not get it.
It was Sadan Rafaela of Boston who ended up winning
the Major League Baseball gold Club, and of course we
have a world champion in Major League Baseball. We have
not had a chance, of course, to chat about the
amazing World Series between the Blue Jays and the Los
Angeles Dodgers coming to an end on Saturday night, the
(21:04):
Dodgers winning a chance to laugh at Blue Jays fans
coming up later in the show, but coming up next,
it's cold Turkey sandwich aboard of scores, all of your
NFL action from Sunday recap for you on Chuck and
Buck Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 10 (21:24):
And Darnal Roll throw it into touchdown Tory Partneys in
Russian five. Darnald taking a shutout field open it Jennis
Parton for a touchdown. The rookie has two in the
first two quarters.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Seattle right back at it. Darnald nine of nine on
the night, takes another shot and it's contre a royal
to the touchdown.
Speaker 11 (21:52):
Elsa Arroyo with his first NFL touchdown.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
Play eteer on first down.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Thirteen thirteen to the races.
Speaker 11 (22:04):
It's right, all the right, Cody White for the touchdown,
the first of his NFL career.
Speaker 12 (22:13):
That finale last night was a completely horrible one sided
game that was never in question, and that's because of
how good Sam Donald was.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
I am screaming this morning, talk about Sam Donald.
Speaker 12 (22:24):
Does anybody care outside of a few platforms and a
few Twitter accounts, because Theattle Seahawks are a top five
team right now? What are they talking about on ESPN?
Are they talking about Sam Donald? Sam Donald put on
an absolute show and most of the talk as well.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Jaden dan Quin should Adam and who cares?
Speaker 12 (22:41):
For a second, Let's talk about the Seahawks because they
are continuing to annihilate people in front of them and
I'm here.
Speaker 8 (22:46):
For Oh look at Kyle brand Yeah, he was angry.
He had an angry run, the exact same take I
had this morning.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
I know That's why I saw it. I was like,
wait a minute, I gotta play this.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Wow? How about that?
Speaker 1 (22:57):
All right?
Speaker 6 (22:57):
Kyle Brant?
Speaker 8 (22:58):
Good for you?
Speaker 6 (22:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (22:58):
High five buddy. Yeah. I couldn't agree more because I
said it first.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
It's Chuck, Buck and Ashley with you.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
We roll into the seven o'clock hour here on Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. The Good Morning Football's
where we got the audio, that's where Kyle Brandt makes
a living and then you heard the highlights from NBC
of last night's blowout win over the Washington Commanders. The
final score was thirty eight to fourteen. Sam Donold a
(23:26):
perfect sixteen for sixteen two hundred and eighty two yards
and four touchdowns in the first half, and the Hawks.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Go on to an easy win.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
That did end with Jade and Daniels getting injured and gruesomely,
he ended up dislocating his left elbow. He is most
likely to miss the entire season, but it certainly did
not impact the outcome of that game last night. It
was well in hand for Mike McDonald and the Hawks,
who improve on the season to six and two on
(23:57):
the year. Next up, they'll take on the Arazon Cardinals,
who will play Monday Night football. To wrap up this
week in the NFL against the Dallas Cowboys. Five point
fifteen kickoff, and we'll lead your right up to it
on a frost browed corps light.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
Choose chill Monday.
Speaker 8 (24:13):
Speaking of frost brewed corps light, they also provide your
headlines at the top of the seven o'clock hour. The
first excuse me, NFL trading deadline. We are on the
eve of that. That is tomorrow. There was a significant
trade this morning. Miami sent to pass rusher Jalen Phillips
to Philadelphia for a third round pick. We're expecting a
lot more deals here in the next thirty hours before
(24:35):
the deadline tomorrow. The first playoff show of college football
will be held tomorrow as well, so we'll find out
where everybody ranks in the first unofficial official college football
playoff rankings of the new year College Football Polls. You
dub is now ranked number twenty four, first time they've
been ranked all season long. College basketball. Yes, the season
(24:58):
starts today. It's all lady underway. There are already a
couple of games being played. There will be one hundred
and sixty nine of them played today. The one hundred
and sixty ninth game, chronologically will be you dubbed. They
will play the last game of the day against Arkansas
Pine Bluff at eight o'clock tonight. Sounders that their season
is on the line, They will play at seven thirty
(25:18):
tonight at Luminfield. They must win their next two games
against Minnesota United or their season comes to a close.
The Kraken will host the Blackhawks tonight at seven o'clock
and Julio Rodriguez got.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Denied a gold glove.
Speaker 8 (25:32):
All Mariners did this time around as they were handed
out yesterday.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
Meanwhile, the baseball.
Speaker 8 (25:38):
World celebrates the new world champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Those
are your headlines. And now this is usually where we
transition to Greg Bell. We've got a special treat.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
For you today.
Speaker 8 (25:51):
Joining us now and plays at Greg Bell today. Former
Seahawks running back and he is working in the media
these days. He does the Seahawks Square Odd Show postgame
show with the Anders Hurst, Chris Crawford and others.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
I guess they decided, let's get somebody that knows football
and yeah, yeah to me on our postgame show and so.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Yeah makes sense.
Speaker 8 (26:16):
Really is we welcome in the man with the largest
biceps in North America. Robert Turbin is with us right
here on Chuck and Buck. Good morning, Robert.
Speaker 13 (26:26):
Well, look what's up. How we doing?
Speaker 6 (26:27):
We're doing great?
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (26:29):
And you Yeah, I'm great.
Speaker 13 (26:31):
I hope the uh hope the background music isn't too loud.
I'm in the gym, I'm trying to I'm in the
dem I'm.
Speaker 14 (26:37):
Trying to list as.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
Good as y'all.
Speaker 13 (26:38):
Okay, I'm trying to get fit so as good as
you too.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
So yeah, you just decided I have to have the
world's largest biceps. I can't stop just because I'm not
playing football. Is that what happened?
Speaker 13 (26:52):
That's exactly right, because before you know it, my son
he's nine now, and then before you know it, it'll
be you know, nineteen, trying trying to one up his dad,
and I just can't.
Speaker 14 (27:02):
I just can't have it happen.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
You know.
Speaker 13 (27:05):
Does he got to keep it as long as possible?
Speaker 8 (27:07):
Does he have the natural monster bicep build that you
had at that age?
Speaker 13 (27:12):
No, No, he's he's he's actually more lean.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
Okay, you know, yeah, he's more lean.
Speaker 13 (27:18):
He looks like a like a track star, like a
track guy, you know, like a like a like a
like a high jumper or something.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
You know that works.
Speaker 13 (27:26):
But he's a lot more athletic than than I was
at that age.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
For sure.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
It worked out all right for you.
Speaker 8 (27:33):
Well, thank you for joining us.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (27:35):
Sorry to bug you at the gym, but uh man,
I mean, I don't know. I was yelling this morning
about how the NFL networks were leading with Jayden Daniel's
injury over the fact that the Seahawks put on just
a show last night, just an absolute show. To me,
that's the headline that the Seahawks are one of the
(27:56):
best teams in the National Football League and Sam Darnold
might be one of the best quarterbacks in the National
Football League.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Your thoughts, well, I.
Speaker 13 (28:04):
Mean, you can't argue with that. The Seahawks certainly did
do their thing last night. They put on the show.
They were hitting on all cylinders, you know, so it's
difficult to argue with the headlines there. But you know,
Jane Daniels number two overall pick franchise quarterback. If you
think about not only the injury itself, but the timing.
Speaker 14 (28:23):
Of it, should he have been in the game, all
the question marks that are surrounding it, you know, which
store should be larger. I guess it's up to the
national media to decide. But when you take into account,
you know those other factors. Their season is over and
what did their future look like now with this type
(28:44):
of injury. I've had it just okay to elbow, and
it was a very gruesome and difficult injury to come
back from, and so I don't think that you know,
there should be any steam taken away from the Seahawks. Say,
but man, you know number two overall pick franchise quarterback,
(29:05):
that's certainly going to dominate the headlines this morning.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
Yeah, I mean it was a big deal obviously, and
it was gross, and it took away from the game
to some extent, But I mean getting to the part
of the game that was the biggest story up to
that point had to be the Seahawks, just the way
in which they played, kind of clicking on all cylinders
like you're talking about. But first and foremost, I mean
Sam Darnold starting out what sixteen for sixteen, I mean,
(29:30):
was basically perfect in the first half of that game. Anyways,
before that one interception that he threw, what are you
seeing in him? That might lead you down the path
the thing? And hey, not only is this guy a
great move for them to move from where they were
at before to where they're at now, but this might
legitimately be the franchise quarterback they've been looking for ever
(29:52):
since maybe Russ turned, you know, turned a different kind
of corner, so to speak.
Speaker 13 (29:58):
Yeah, I mean, look, he just played so much composer composure.
He's uh, you know, he's developed into a really really
good leader. It doesn't really matter what's going on in
the game, all the ups and downs in the abs
and flows that happens before a quarters of the football game,
you know, you can tell that he's you know, sort
of the same guy throughout, down after downs, and guys
really feet off of that, you know, guys really feet
(30:20):
off a quarterback who just has that mental fortitude, uh
to be able to overcome adversities and uh, you know,
to to not you know, really settle when things are
going good, to kind of keep it move the keeps
to uh, to keep things pushing in terms of wanting
to continue to do great things, you know, throughout the
football game. And that's where you see guys like AJ
(30:41):
Barner and you know some of these other players who
may not get all the notoriety, but they're stepping up
and they're making big time plays. I think that has
to go into what kind of synergy has been developed
within the offense, and it starts with you know, Sam Darnell,
you know, like you know, I'll give examples of like
I watched the Raider game yesterday and you know, of course,
(31:03):
you know, was our quarterback and he was a good
player and he's a good person. But you're not gonna
see Sam Donald slam his helmet onto the ground and
you know, kind of get over emotional despite whatever is
going on through a football game. And guys really really
feed off that type of composure coming from their leader.
And so he's been exceptional this season. This offense really
(31:26):
fits within his skill set. It's been awesome to watch.
Speaker 8 (31:29):
Robert Turbin is with us, former Sea Hawk running back.
He's at the gym this morning. That's so on brand
for Robert Turbin right there and he joins us here
this morning to talk about the seahawks thirty eight to
fourteen win over the Commanders last night. Is Jackson Smith
and Jigma just unguardable?
Speaker 13 (31:48):
I think so A lot of folks might think that
as well. And the reason is because he's not one dimensional.
You know, he's not a guy that is only a
slot guy. You know, he started off his career like that,
but then they found out that, oh man, he can
play on the outside. We can motion them and give
them the ball on.
Speaker 14 (32:07):
A fly sweep.
Speaker 13 (32:08):
He's got so much versatility in his game that it
makes them one of the toughest players in the NFL.
To guard you can't just key on him. You can't
just put double teams on him. You can't just brack
them because you know, Kobiak does a nice job moving
him around throughout different formations, ending them in motion, things
of that nature. So you know, because he has that
(32:30):
skill set, it makes him one of the hardest guys
to guard in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (32:35):
Robert the you know, one of the talking points that
we've had most of this season was the hey, they're
going to run the ball.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Now.
Speaker 7 (32:42):
Run the run game hasn't looked as great as maybe
we would have hoped, you know, the new outside zone
blocking scheme and see if that unleashes Ken Walker. Now,
they have ran the ball effectively at times, and yesterday
I think they had twenty four rushes to twenty four passes.
But from your more expert when you watch this team
is I'm wondering if it looks like they're even when
(33:05):
they're not running the ball. They have a lot of
heavy formations maybe twelve personnel, and then they're passing out
of that. Is that part of the reason that Sam
Darnold is looking so good and the part of the
reason that Jackson Smith and Jaguar might be uncoverable.
Speaker 13 (33:19):
Yeah, no doubt about it. You know, because you line
up in those run looks, and you know, at the
end of the day, the instinct of a defense it
is to stop the run first, no matter what. And
you know, the Seahawks may not be getting necessarily the
the the numbers that that fans want to see, or
you know, even the Seahawks may want to see, but
the running game is being impactful enough for opposing defense
(33:42):
teams to respect it. And when you line up in
those heavy sets, if you if you if you show
up with a light box, well guess what. Sam Darling
is gonna check to a different play at the line
of scrimmage and run the football with twelve personnel, two
tight ends in the back against maybe a six man box.
But that's to show up with and that gives us
the advantage. Now we got we got a hat on
(34:03):
the hat, we got numbers, and so you have to
respect the fact that, you know, Seattle can still do
damage in the run game. If you know, if you
show up with a light box, so it just opens
up everything else down the field. And you know, to me,
you know, I know, we're looking at the numbers. To me,
the run game has still been impactful and and it
(34:24):
shows on tape because of how teams are still defending
it even though the quote unquote numbers aren't there.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
You know what I give him credit for.
Speaker 8 (34:32):
I thought, I think Clint Kubiak has been using Walker
and Charbonne at the last night. I thought he used
him at the right times, if that makes sense, Like, Okay,
neither of them were overly effective, but man, it just
you kind of felt their impact and it felt like
they were the right running back for the jobs they
were asking to do. Is that crazy or did you
(34:54):
feel the same thing.
Speaker 13 (34:56):
No, I think it's exactly right. I think that impacted
the perfect words to describe how the Seahawks utilized their
run game and how they utilize dat Sharvionnay and Kenneth
Walker the third you know they're trying to put them
in scenarios you know where they can be most successful,
and so you know, to me, the impact is more
(35:17):
effective than the actual numbers. I compare to the Kent
City Chiefs with Kareem hunting Isaiah Pacheco. You know the
numbers might not be there, but you know their impact
shows up when teams are respecting the road.
Speaker 8 (35:32):
Well, I just gotta just overall thoughts. I mean, after
a win like that six and two on the year,
four and oher on the road, they're the best road
team in the National Football League. Robert Turbin, How good
is this Seahawks team in your estimation right now?
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (35:48):
It's the playoff team, no doubt about it. They got
to keep it rolling. You know, it's still long season ago.
But you know, to me, I thought the Commander's game
was critical because.
Speaker 14 (35:59):
You couldn't lay an egg.
Speaker 13 (36:01):
You couldn't lay an egg the way that the Green
Bay Packers did against the Carolina Panthers yesterday. You know,
if you if you're going to be a dominant team
in the NFL, then you know you gotta be able
to stump on the teams that aren't doing well. And
unfortunately the Commanders, you know, there's one of those teams
this season. And uh, for the Seahawks to go in
(36:22):
and dominate the game like that on the road, I
think says a lot about their future.
Speaker 6 (36:27):
All right, So what to be doing?
Speaker 8 (36:29):
You both bar bells, dumbbells?
Speaker 1 (36:31):
What are you doing?
Speaker 8 (36:32):
You hang upside down and you know, work out what's
the what's the secret to Robert Turbin and his physique?
Speaker 13 (36:40):
No, I keep it simple man, little backsquad today, you know,
little little reverse lundon.
Speaker 14 (36:45):
I just got done with a a slug push, you know.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
I keep I keep it.
Speaker 14 (36:53):
I keep it pretty simple, trying to keep up with
you boys.
Speaker 8 (36:57):
All right, man, Well, thank you very much. It was
great having you on here this morning, and appreciate you
breaking up the workout to join us. So we'll do
this again soon, if that's all right with you.
Speaker 13 (37:07):
Yeah, anytime. I love I love tatting with you guys. Anytime.
Speaker 8 (37:10):
All right, perfect, thanks man, Robert Durbin Turban joining us
right here on Chuck and Buck in the morning. Former
Seahawks running back at the gym. Oh, yeah, I've done all.
I've done a.
Speaker 7 (37:22):
Slug push all right, I think he said sled push,
slug bush.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Yeah, I think I've done those two.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
Yeah. How much weight do you have on the sled?
Usually thousands on the slug. Yeah, it's more intricate ash
you got to push.
Speaker 9 (37:43):
It depends on the size of it.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
Cooperate number one.
Speaker 7 (37:49):
Yeah, you don't want to just push an uncooperative slug around.
Speaker 6 (37:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (37:53):
So anyway, Robert and I we kind of know. We
speak each other's language. He definitely is trying to keep
up with us. That makes it.
Speaker 9 (38:02):
I do like that he buttered you guys up though
right away. I'm trying to look as good as you guys.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
I was like, has he seeing this show?
Speaker 6 (38:08):
He knows how to do it.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
I included myself in that. That's why I didn't say,
just you guys.
Speaker 6 (38:15):
He knows how to do it. You know, you butt
him up at the beginning, butt him up at the end.
You can say anything you want.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
I don't remember anything he said in them. Yeah, I really,
and I wrote some stuff down so I can't go.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
Back to awful things about us.
Speaker 7 (38:30):
I don't care either, he say, just trying to keep
up with us and try to look as good as us.
Speaker 6 (38:33):
You're right, flattery, donut, flattery, donut. I love it. I
loved everything about it.
Speaker 8 (38:39):
We appreciate Robert. Greg could not be with us today.
He's in Root back from DC, so we'll catch up
with him tomorrow. We're gonna have a lot to discuss
with Greg tomorrow. We've got the NFL trading deadline, Seahawks
injuries of their own coming out of that, and we
really haven't talked much about the defense. I mean, and
for good reason. I mean, sam Donold's such a headline.
(39:00):
The blowout is such a headline. Daniels is such a headline,
and it felt important to when we had Robert Turbin
on the show to talk about the running game a
little bit. But we haven't really talked about the defense
much at all. I mean, Tyle Cotta's interception was one
of the catches of the year, and for that to
come from US safety for goodness sake, I was phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
I thought Greg Bell's so happy he loves Tyle Kotta.
Speaker 8 (39:21):
Oh yeah. Emon Wori just continues to stand out. I mean,
we got a superstar about ready to just lift off
in this league. I mean, at one point, did you
see the play where he lifted Debo off his feet
with one arm while fighting off a blocker.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
With the other.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
He's like a video game person and exactly.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
Two to two at will.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
This is Deebo Samuel, like one of the thickest, the
most physical wide receivers in NFL history, and he rolls
out there and he's trying to fight off a blocker
with his left arm and then just lifts him up
and keeps him from going one inch more toward the
first down marker. Phenomenal play, spoons energy. I mean, he
was leading the team in tackles until they took him
(40:10):
out of the game. Leonard Williams played great, even though
there was one strange play where he was running alongside
Jayden Daniels rather than tackling him.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
That was odd crazy.
Speaker 8 (40:19):
I don't know if he thought he was running sideways
and lost like his you know geography there, but that
was an odd play. But I mean the defense played
fantastic last night too. I thought Jade and Daniels spent
most of the first half looking very confused, which is
a credit to Mike McDonald and Aden Dirty. And so
it was just a terrific night night of dominance for
(40:41):
the Seahawks. And we will talk more about it coming
up with Hugh Millen at eight o'clock. Mike Holmran will
also join the conversation at nine. So Monday morning quarterback
today from eight to ten. And since this is the
big topic of the day according to the National people,
maybe we should sink our teeth a little further into this.
Jade Daniel's injury, so We'll talk about that next. Sports

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Here's Chuck and Buck Hi.
Speaker 8 (41:58):
Yes it is Chuckaback on the Marll Sports Radio ninety
three point three khr FM. Good Monday morning to you.
Oh everybody in a good mood around here. Boy, you
get that way after your football team wins thirty eight
to fourteen on Sunday Night football. Oh yes, the flowers
they smelled better. The air feels cleaner. Yes, everything, the
coffee tasted a little coffeer. And so here we get
(42:20):
started here at eight o'clock with our QB one, Hugh
Millen is.
Speaker 6 (42:24):
With us to break it all down. You have used
the po r N.
Speaker 8 (42:28):
Word to discover Yeah, excellent quarterback play in the past.
While I would imagine you had quite the session last
night then in the case.
Speaker 15 (42:36):
Yeah, I'm exhausted. I need a late morning now. Oh man,
Now what a curb stomp? I mean, I think these
things happen. I don't think if they played ten times
you're going to see that type of an outcome. But
you know what, they don't play ten times. They played once.
It was on national TV. It was beautiful. Three hundred
and thirty yards at halftime. I don't need a calculator
(43:01):
to double that stat I mean it was just a remarkable,
just avalanche.
Speaker 6 (43:06):
You know, that's exactly coming off of a buy.
Speaker 15 (43:10):
How you want to approach things to have that type
of intensity and that type of execution. The precision, the precision,
the execution, the complexity of the defense. I mean, man,
you gotta you gotta put your thinking cap on when
you study this defense. Uh, it's it's a fun team
to watch.
Speaker 8 (43:28):
I know that, you know, you don't obsess over it,
but you do hold a record for twenty consecutive completions.
Speaker 6 (43:37):
So were you're.
Speaker 8 (43:38):
Thinking at all about Sam Darnold? You know, kind of uh,
you know, get making uncomfortable there around twenty I mean,
he wasn't checking down every other player like you did.
Speaker 4 (43:47):
Oh but.
Speaker 15 (43:51):
Well, the that was an AFC record, Uh.
Speaker 6 (43:55):
And it was with the Broncos, and so the Broncos.
Speaker 15 (43:58):
Yeah, yeah, I think I think I Bucky would know maybe,
but I think I still have.
Speaker 6 (44:03):
It for the Broncos. But no, it was I didn't
know it at the time.
Speaker 15 (44:10):
And and yeah, I ended up being twenty for twenty
and then the official play by play said a drop
on the twenty first, It literally says, the official.
Speaker 6 (44:20):
Play by play drop ball.
Speaker 15 (44:22):
And then there was four more completions, so I would
have had twenty five, which would still be the NFL record.
That the NFL record at the time was twenty two,
so by held by Joe Montana. Now, in what universe
do I deserve to take Joe Montana's every one of
them precisely, zero of them, obviously, but that would be
(44:43):
a cool record to have, but as.
Speaker 6 (44:47):
It was, it was. But there was I think two
hundred ninety seven yards.
Speaker 15 (44:52):
In those twenty completions. So back off on, yeah, yeah,
come on. So yeah, we had about fifteen yards perfect
per mc bucky smile.
Speaker 6 (45:01):
He's a ball. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love you so much, love,
But enough of that. How about Sam Donald. Yeah that's
his seventeen.
Speaker 8 (45:09):
Well let's get into it, and we won't go through
them all, but let's get a little detailed. Obviously, he
came out humming right there. Very first possession, you get
the football. After Jane Daniels looked a little confused by
Mike McDonald's defense, Sam Donald didn't look confused at all.
And so second and four from the sixteen yard line,
(45:32):
he gets it started with a perfect strike to Tory
Horton for thirteen yards.
Speaker 15 (45:38):
So so Donald and really the theme of this is
the is the the details there. The precision is in
the details. So there's there's a bunch right out to
Donald's right. It's man and man covered. So he sees
three over three that takes his read to the double
slant side. Mike Homgood would call that lion and and
(45:58):
he's got Tory Horton in this Now, Tory, I know
my kid threw a bunch to him. At Colorado State.
Tory Horton normally is an outside receiver on the right side.
That's but as a rookie, now he's a slot receiver
on the left. On this play, he's he's got to
win against man coverage. And here's the here's the part
of the detail. It's like goldilocks in the porridge. If
you talk to Tory Horton on that play, man and
(46:22):
man that you've got a lurking defender in Bobby Wagner.
If if he's just trying to beat the corner over him,
he wants to take a flat angle away, but that's
going to get him into the linebacker too fast. So
if he just wants to avoid the linebacker is going
to keep it skinny and keep it high, so the
(46:42):
angle can be neither not too flat, not too high.
For the reasons I described, it's just right. It's perfect
NFL execution. You get thirteen yards. Well, that was just
kind of getting started on the thing. Obviously, after a
penalty for that one chop block by Oots. Then the
ends up getting his first completion to Jackson Smith and Jigba.
(47:03):
What'd you see on that one? Yeah, well it's a
five out protection. You're sending Kenneth Walker out to the
left side, but they there was an overload to that side.
Speaker 6 (47:13):
So now he comes to.
Speaker 15 (47:14):
The backside and he's got he's got a hold. He's
got to look to his left to make Bobby Wagner.
And early on, I'll tell you what he was playing
Bobby Wagner in like a marionette pubpet with his eyes
just moving Wagner. Wagner is trying to play his eyes.
He knew, he knew he had to move him, so
he moves left and then who's number four for the commanders.
(47:37):
Then he had to he had to move that guy
to the right and then opens up this window. A
beautiful anticipation on an inbreaking route. But but he goes
with his eyes Darnald left, Let me move Wagner, Let
me look to the flat. Let me move number four.
That will open a window between fifty four and four
and I'll hit Jackson Smith Smith Smith Smith and Jigba
(47:58):
coming in on that so the eye manipulation and the
anticipation on a backside read after having read the front
side to his left, beautiful quarterback.
Speaker 8 (48:07):
For as frankieluvia. We got to recognize a coop. Yeah
that's a coop.
Speaker 6 (48:11):
Yeah yeah, we can't just call it.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
You have to.
Speaker 8 (48:13):
Recognize a coup guy, don't fine, I get it all right.
So and then and I love this because right after
that thirteenth, so it's first and twenty five, and there's
just no panic at all shown by Sam. It's just like,
let's just get half of it here. And then they
get another penalty and that can tend to disrupt an
entire drive, and he's like, no panic. Second and seventeen.
(48:34):
I'm just gonna go right back to the horse Jackson
Smith and jigg but for fourteen more yards. It was
so beautiful because Washington didn't handle their fifteen yard penalty
well on the previous drive, and Sam just didn't panic
at all when they got backed up twice.
Speaker 15 (48:49):
Good point and beautiful play calling here. This is a
Clint Kubiak like, dude, were you tapping into their uh
to their their headsets? In fact, I had a chech
exchange with Gary Kubiak, Clint's dad who for whom I played.
He was my quarterback coach, and just kind of commenting
is like, dude, you Clint must have been in on
(49:10):
the commander's headset feed because here here they roll the
strong side to Darnold's left, okay, meaning the corner of
the corner's gonna stay the flat. The safety is going
to go over the top. In this situation, you have
Jackson Smith and Jigba he motions he's in. He's the
running back in the flat and they're running a coverage
(49:30):
or they're trying to invert a cover to where the
where you have overhang defender. He's gonna scream out to
the sideline to try and play the wide flat area.
And Bobby Wagner is the next guy inside. He's the
curl defender. I wrote on my notes on this play
fifty four looks like a slow rookie. So the rookie
(49:52):
part was a linebacker of his veteran status. And I
love Bobby Wagner like he I described him last week,
the to accomplished Seahawk in a Seahawk uniform in the
history of the franchise. So so we all love Bobby Wagner.
But let's just talk about who fifty four is for
the commanders. How he would not know that the Injigba
(50:13):
lined up in the backfield is going to run an
option route. You know, he just he just kind of
spot and he had no awareness. And in Jigba for
his part, like this is where I stop and I
go the details his on this choice route, he would
say he would he could break out, he could break
in zone. He's gonna hook it up. And then later
he ran he had a vertical, so he is a
(50:34):
four way read, which not all running backs again, but
he's got a four way read in out, stop or vertical.
And as he senses how the the they're playing this
inverted coverage as I describe, he's going up the numbers
about two yards inside the numbers. But as he stops,
he kind of backs up and he gets on the numbers.
(50:57):
He kind of did a backpedal to like it's the
this unbelievable next level awareness of exactly where the coverage
is getting friendly for the quarterback in a position that's
going to maximize his run. After the Cats, he ends
up getting on that play fourteen yards.
Speaker 6 (51:14):
It but it wasn't just.
Speaker 15 (51:15):
That he stopped, because I could show you nine hundred
and ninety nine players that I've ever either played with
or studied that would turn around and stop in his
own It's that he stopped and widened as he was
doing it in a way that was clear with the
and Darnald was throwing them with anticipation. It's just like, hey,
if I back up here, I'm gonna be a little
(51:36):
bit further from Bobby Wagner, and I can do that
because the overhang defender was screaming to the sideline so
fast that the windows a little wider. Let me just
dissect that window perfect again, precisions in the details. That's
the difference between a seven yard eight yard game and
a fourteen yard game.
Speaker 7 (51:55):
Yeah, well, obviously their connection is kind of clicking right now,
Sam Darnald and Jackson's Smith and Jig, But that one
basically still because of the penalty sets up a third
and three, and that's when Donold basically finds aj Barnery
right there for eight yards over the middle. I mean,
even when it's okay, third and three, we got to
convert here, he finds somebody, even if it's not his
(52:15):
security blanket in Jackson.
Speaker 15 (52:17):
Yeah, and this is where and Chris, I think Chris
Collinsworths is Now this is just one man's opinion, very subjective.
I think he has become the best analysts in football,
and I think it's in part because he bought Pro
Football Pro Football Focus, and he has a lot of information.
He studies it more than he used to. But he
was really calling out, hey, this is Donald. Look at
(52:39):
his feet. He's coming back to his third receiver. Well,
I watched the tape. I could make an argument that
it's his third receiver because there's a concept I would
call black bugle, which is a go route and a
quick out route to the left, and then you got
to dig and then you got the check down. You
could say in his playbook, I'll bet you it says
(53:01):
take a peek Injigba is the go route up the sideline.
So for Collinsworth to say that that Barner's only number three,
that is removing the idea that Donald would what's the
point of my conversation. I would argue that it's more
the fourth receiver. And so here Donald goes left. He's
got a two man concept the outgo to his left Nope,
(53:24):
he's got a dig check down Texas. And by the way,
the angle again, the precision, the details barner. He checked
over the middle, but before he did that, he took
an angle towards the sideline and up the field as
if he was going to go to the flat, and
then he crosses back in. I call it a check Texas.
(53:45):
And you could just check him down with a defender
to be closer. But if you first fake to the
outside like you're going to flat and then check down
over the middle, you get a little bit more separation. Again,
precisions in the details. He gets eight yards on third
and three. He would have got four or five yards,
but every yard counts and it's all in the details.
(54:06):
But again Donald going to his fourth receiver on time.
Hel melanis with us Monday morning Quarterback.
Speaker 8 (54:12):
If we are going into detail on Sam Donald's basically
historic night last night. He was sixteen for sixteen in
the first half, and we're going through his first ten
passes here and just how impressive he was, because they
were all just a little bit different in how impressive
that they were. At halftime, they were five for five
on third down, so it wasn't just completing to complete Hugh,
(54:34):
I mean third down and five from their twenty seven
you hook up with the walker for fourteen yards and
a first down. I mean he was also moving the
chains in all of this as well.
Speaker 6 (54:46):
Yes, this was.
Speaker 15 (54:46):
A cover zero, all out blitz. It's gonna be man
to man, but the safety's coming from depth. And really
there was no other receiver open. I mean we say
Jackson Smith is always open. Well, you know there's a
few times when he lines up outside and press coverage
where he doesn't win. And and and yet here again
Clint Kubiak, you've got a five out protection on him.
(55:09):
Heavy blitz there, you're blitzing six guys on an imp
on a on a five out protection. And and I
looked at it as an option, and it's.
Speaker 6 (55:19):
Possible that it was. It was.
Speaker 15 (55:22):
It was locked in as a what's called a Texas route,
which is the the inbreaking route. Either way, whether he
had the option or not, he broke to the inside,
which if he did have had the option, it was
the correct decision to go inside. And for for Donald's case,
here here it's a six man rush on a five
man protection. There is no who's who's twenty four for uh,
(55:45):
for the commander, Well, it's von Miller. Yeah, duh. So
von Miller is coming in on the a gap, unblocked,
total free runner. And so you credit Donald in this
case of just having the courage knowing that the there's
gonna be a guy totally unblocked. It's a Hall of
Famer coming in on you, and he was able to
(56:05):
you know, relatively easy completion other than you've got von
Miller bearing down on you totally unblocked. So hell of
a call. A covers zero beater and you get the
first down and by the way, you get fourteen yards
on third and five.
Speaker 7 (56:19):
Yeah, and then they basically try to run one before
he ends up connecting with Horton on that first touchdown.
Speaker 6 (56:24):
How nice was that?
Speaker 13 (56:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (56:26):
Boot left with I don't know Clint Kobak like Boot Left.
He has more nakeds and boots to the left on
a right handed quarterback than he does to the right
thus far in the season. But I think the impressive
part of that you got the defensive end who didn't
bite on the on the play action. He's up the field,
so Darnold would like to stay on the move, but
now he's got to stop pull up with a defensive
(56:47):
end ninety six in his face. The flat is covered.
And if you look at when he hands separate and
he's going to throw this, you Tory Horton is not open.
He's got he's contacted. I mean, the defender could have
reached out and bear hugged him. There was no separation,
but he threw with anticipation.
Speaker 6 (57:08):
Through it open. Unbelievable.
Speaker 15 (57:10):
Probably in my mind, the most difficult play that he
had of the night was there was that touchdown pass
in terms of just degree of difficulty by NFL quarterback standards,
just how he backed up, the anticipation he had, the
spot that he put it in. I mean that there's
there's your porn right there. I mean that that things
(57:31):
are really getting rev up.
Speaker 8 (57:33):
I know it when I see it all then yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
That was the Supreme Court justice in nineteen sixty three.
Can't describe it, but I know when I see it.
Speaker 15 (57:42):
Yeah yeah, Well seven decency perpetrated in that end zone.
Speaker 8 (57:47):
That was gorgeous. Seven to nothing at that point. Next possession.
Let's go back to back here. I mean there were
three plays apart, but back to back throws to JSN
seventeen yards cards and then a seven yard hookup. So
let's squish those two.
Speaker 15 (58:04):
Yeah, the seven yard hookup was just a hits free access,
hits nothing there. The boot left over route for seventeen yards,
you would quarter, you would coach Darnold. Hey again, here
he is on a naked not to his right as
the right handed quarterback, but to his left. He had
Robbie Oots out there as a wing of a tight
(58:25):
end as it were, and he's just kind of blocking.
So but that brings extra defenders, so it's relatively congested.
He's got the flat that's covered, he's got Robbie Uts
blocking for him, so that there's just a lot of bodies.
So he says, well, let me find jaysn coming from
the backside on an intermediate crossing route. He hits him
on the dead run while he's on the left. He
(58:47):
hits a jig on the dead run seventeen yards. Made
it look like a laying in basketball.
Speaker 6 (58:53):
Beautiful, yep.
Speaker 7 (58:54):
And then he basically ends up finishing that drive off
with another twenty five yard striker, not another one, but
twenty five yard strike to Tory Horton.
Speaker 6 (59:02):
Another great throw.
Speaker 15 (59:03):
Okay, now I'm gonna use the term that is not ubiquitous.
If I say cover zero, every coach nois what I'm
talking about. I say, that's blitz mana man, no free safety.
If I say cover one, everybody knows what I'm talking about.
That's man man with a free safety. I'm gonna use
the term cover seven that I picked up somewhere along
the line of coach called it. Not everybody uses that term,
but everybody will describe it however they describe it. Cover
(59:26):
seven is man to man, but with a bracket against
one guy. So okay, So instead of having a free
safety in the middle, you're gonna take that safety and
say we're gonna put two on one and then everybody
else is just man and man. And in this case
they're bracketing JSN and so Sandra still the corner on
man a man that you've got to point a bunch
(59:50):
formation to Darnold's right, and you've got Tory Horton as
the point. There's three guys and the middle guy is
on the line of scrimage the other two about why
is that important? When you start talking about play construction,
you've got to be aware that defense is usually jam.
The point the middle guy who's on the line of scrimmage,
(01:00:11):
and so Horton he's got to have because he's on
the line, he's got to have a great release. He
takes an inside release against Sandrastill. Sandra's still Then when
you watch the ang zone copy, he jumps to the
inside because once Horton goes on an inside release, Sandra's
still the defender and man to man, you're telling Sandra's still, Hey,
(01:00:32):
it's cover seven. You don't have any safety help. So
Sandristelle once he says, okay, Horton just went in an
inside release on me. He's got to guard the intermediate
crossing route because he's got no safety help because the
safety is over there helping on Jackson Smith and jigback.
So Sandra still he cheats. He gets to the inside,
but no, here's here's Clint Kubiak. I'm not running him
(01:00:53):
on a deep over route. I'm running him back to
the corner. So Sandra still had to guess because he
has no safety help because Jackson Smith and jig was
on the field. They want to play man and man,
but they got a double Jackson Smith and Jigba we
take an inside release. Oh we think we're going an
inside breaking route. Nope, We're going an outside breaking route.
That's how you get that wide open app And there
was just a little bit of a nod to the inside. Beautiful,
(01:01:16):
not nothing to slow him down. But I would say
the route was absolutely a ten by the Ricky Horton.
Speaker 6 (01:01:23):
But it's the construction.
Speaker 15 (01:01:24):
It's all the elements that I'm talking about to create
a wide open, easy touchdown.
Speaker 8 (01:01:28):
All right, And then that's fourteen and nothing. Then you
have the fumbled kick return. And so within nine seconds
the Seahawks threw two touchdown passes and opened up a
twenty one nothing lead over the Commanders. And at this point,
Darnold's just cocky because he had JSN wide open down
the right sidelines, Like, no, I'm gonna throw the more
difficult throw just to show you how awesome I am tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (01:01:50):
Well, Jayson had a filthy, filthy and credit the broadcast,
they're really good. They showed it. It was literally open.
I watched the coaches tapement. I mean he's opened by
five yards. That's anonic aeration. I mean he put the
whoop to do, but the safety was cheating over to
his side. Now, this is man to man. This is
not the cover seven, but it's this free safety with
(01:02:10):
a hard sheet. And and so because he sees the
hard sheet and he's got Arroyo on a seam route,
you're you want to get a single safety. That call,
that play is called to get a single safety. And
and and if you're you're darnold, you just say, hey,
if you're in the middle of the if I can
get you off the middle field, I've I've got one
on one to the outside, uh or up the seam
(01:02:33):
rather to uh Arroyo or.
Speaker 6 (01:02:35):
Number eighteen for Tyler Owens.
Speaker 15 (01:02:38):
He he kind of he bites in a little too fast,
so he gets beat Arroyo's speed beats him up the seam.
And then the corner Latimore, there's a Tory Horton was
trying to hold the outside corner uh uh from from
falling back into the play.
Speaker 6 (01:02:53):
This one.
Speaker 15 (01:02:54):
I don't think this matters a lot, but this uh relevant.
But the team the seam route to the left, which
is what Darnald had on that play, was my favorite
play as a quarterback in my career. And because as
a right handed quarterback, you go one, two, three, four, five,
he hits your weight is all set up as you're
(01:03:16):
throwing to your left. There's a certain rhythm to how
you can throw it the way the receiver is running
away from you in your relative to your visions kind
of left to right, but it's going up the field,
and so the angle is easy to anticipate. It just fits,
it fits my eye. I'm not in Darnald's head. I
haven't asked him, is that your favorite route? But that
(01:03:38):
seam route to the left. He would even tell you
that that wasn't a perfect throw. He would have liked
to have thrown that two feet farther, but he won
by anticipation. And what you're trying to do is think
of a triangle I'm gonna get with the point in
front of you. You're trying to hit between three guys.
The guy who's running down the scene with him, that's
number eighteen. Then the free safety he represents a second
(01:04:00):
point of the triangle. But then the backside corner can
fall into the play too, So you got to you
gotta be aware of three guys that can make the play.
You're gonna stick it in between that triangle and laddermore
you discussed him, he makes a business decision. If I'm
coaching the commanders on defense, I say, dude, you got
to accelerate through that tight end at the half yard
(01:04:21):
line and try and dislodge the football. Latimore had a
chance to do that.
Speaker 6 (01:04:25):
He took.
Speaker 15 (01:04:26):
He made a business decision, he said, for Ricky Waters,
for what, for whom? And and just he just he
tapped out of the play and and so so a
slightly underthrown ball, but you win by anticipation. Love that
steam route to the left, got the corner, the free
safety going hard over to JSN for obvious reasons. That
(01:04:48):
opens a big window in Sam Darnold's eyes, and he
was able to get the touchdown out of it. And
at that point he's ten for ten and the Sea
oarks Are had twenty one to nothing and the game
is over. Is an exercise in getting the clock to
double zero at that point.
Speaker 8 (01:05:03):
Yeah, Yeah, impressive display. Hu Millan is with us Monday
Morning Quarterback. We'll continue on the other side, talk about
the defense a little. On Sports Radio ninety three point

win over the Washington Commanders last night on Sunday Night Football.
Joining the conversation now former Seahawks head coach, former Green
Bay Packers World Championship head coach Mike Holmgren is with
us right here on Chuck and Buck, come on a coach, Hey, good.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
Morning, guys, Good morning. Did you just did you get
through Halloween? Okay?
Speaker 8 (01:06:42):
Yeah, Bucky was just talking about how he really did
watch his figure this.
Speaker 7 (01:06:47):
Entire No, Zach opposite, Yeah, I have crushed Halloween candy.
Speaker 8 (01:06:54):
He watched his figure get a lot bigger. Yeah, man, Yeah,
it just depends on how you watch it.
Speaker 6 (01:06:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:07:00):
Yeah, it's not turning in the right direction.
Speaker 6 (01:07:02):
I'll tell you that.
Speaker 8 (01:07:04):
Coach just goes, oh boy, yeah, all right, coach, Well look,
I mean you've been around some great quarterback play in
your life. Does it get any better than what we
saw from Sam Donald last night?
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
No? I mean he was spot on and the team was. No,
it was really something to behold. I think it sets
the tone really for the rest of the season because
he was he did a lot of things there. You know,
he he would go to his third read, he'd go
to it on time, throw it quick, very accurately. And No,
(01:07:40):
it was a performance really for the ages. I think.
Speaker 15 (01:07:44):
So well, let's let's let's use that term for the ages.
Where does it rank for you? I mean, I got
a lot of friends texting me, is that the the
best half of quarterbacking in Seawk history? Is that the
best half they've ever seen? I mean, do you kind
of start reflecting on history.
Speaker 6 (01:08:04):
In that regard?
Speaker 15 (01:08:05):
Did it strike you as that type of performance or
was it just kind of well, you had had some
great numbers, but and maybe a few great plays, but
maybe not to the level of a historical sense. Where
are you on what you saw last night?
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
Well? I think it ranks that right up there, you
because you know, and you know this better than anybody.
He completed like seven sixteen seventeen passes in a role.
I mean, even if you're having a good day and
a good night, that usually doesn't happen that way. You know.
The only comparison I would make an actual function was
(01:08:41):
Montana and the Super Bowl we played Denver. Yeah, and
you know he was and he still we still miss
some throws. I mean, you know, So now I will
say this, I was really disappointed in Washington's defense in
a lot of ways. In the secondary. For one, for sure,
they're tackling their effort. I just didn't think they were
(01:09:03):
very good and they and and but give the Sea credit.
They took advantage of it. But Mike Sam maybe not
for the ages, maybe not for the age ISU, but
he was he was really good last night.
Speaker 15 (01:09:14):
Yeah, you know, Mike, I thought of quarterbacking and I tried,
like Hill to play it well and and it very
very seldom happened. It was usually the other way around.
But I've given a lot of thought. And uh, like
in college, you know, one hundred level classes or introduction
like psych one on one.
Speaker 6 (01:09:31):
Okay, you're gonna get it introduced.
Speaker 15 (01:09:33):
They're gonna tell you a sigma Freud and and then
that now if you happen to major in what Havevio
or even a grad school school, now you get into
two hundred, three hundred and four hundred. I think that
quarterbacking the five hundred level classes are anticipation and eye
manipulation of defenders. And I thought that there was so
(01:09:55):
much of that on display by by Darnold last night.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:09:58):
I mean, he was moving Bobby Wagner like he had
him on a string, and the other particularly the underneath
Mike undefenders, those inside underneath defenders, and he just he
knew like, hey, I put my eyes here, I put
my eyes there, and then I throw here, and then
always with anticipation. I thought he was five hundred level
quarterbacking in that regard.
Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
No, that's a good point view, and I would agree
with you. And I think, you know, you look at
his history first of all, and you know he had
some rough spots with the Jets and so on and
so forth, and then he hit it with Minnesota. But
he is he has learned, he has polished up what
it needs to be a great quarterback. And when you
(01:10:40):
see it, you see his eyes, You see him move
people around, you see him throw it on time, and
you're right, anticipation and movement with his eyes and moving
defenders around and understanding, understanding the principles of the route,
you know, and why they're doing a heck of a
job coaching him as well. It's really fun to watch coach.
Speaker 7 (01:11:03):
I asked Hugh this in a way earlier in our
eight o'clock hour, But I want to get your perspective
from the coaching and setting these the Jimmy's and Joe's
up with the proper excess and those it does feel
like they're running a lot of the twelve personnel where
they're running heavier sets out there, and yet the idea
of they're still passing a lot off of it. I mean,
(01:11:25):
they're keeping guys honest. Is there something that you're seeing
as far as what Kubiak is doing that's setting Sam
up for the success that he's having so far halfway
through the season.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
I think so, Buck, I think, what when I noticed
and you look at the numbers, you know, and Jigma
of course is off the charts, but they are involving
the tight end. The running backs catch a few balls.
Speaker 6 (01:11:47):
Horton.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
You know, who would have thought Horton would we talk
a lot about him, But he's looking really good to
me and Cupton in play and so give credit. I
give credit to the coaching staff. They those heavy sets,
you know, right away they talk so much about we
got to run the ball, we gotta do this, We're
gonna knock people around, and that's when people typically put
(01:12:12):
in those types of players. But then they pass it.
That's what I was hoping for. You first down, play action,
you know, make them think it's run and throw the ball.
And the numbers last night, you know, it was over
three hundred yards passing and not really a large number rushing,
but they got points that worked very, very well. So
(01:12:36):
I think it's a nice adjustment by the coaching staff.
Speaker 6 (01:12:38):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:12:39):
I mean they're still running the football, but they're still
not running it overly well. I mean the success that
you're seeing from Sam Darnold and the passing game is
just how good the passing game is right now, Coach
Holmgren with us here part of our Monday Morning Quarterback
brought to you by Toyota Kirkland, R and R Foundation
specialists and slab Jack. I want to talk about js.
Speaker 6 (01:12:59):
And I remember a certain guy by the name.
Speaker 8 (01:13:02):
Of Jerry Rice that I used to watch from home
in Illinois and think to myself, don't aren't aren't they
aware that he's on the team the other team? Why
is he open all the time? How is he how
do they not know to put like seven guys on him?
Jsin is starting to get that way with me, coach.
I mean, it feels like they can go to him
(01:13:23):
whenever they need a play and he's going to be
open and Sam's going to deliver the ball to him.
Speaker 6 (01:13:29):
How does that even happen?
Speaker 8 (01:13:30):
You tell me, because you're the guy that used to
get Jerry Rice open all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
Well, you know what, You you go into a game
when you have a receiver like that and anticipate certain
coverages that you're going to see for that player. In
which case, if it's if he's gloved, you know, you
throw at someplace else and you should get a completion.
But you still call his number. You know, I've told
you before I had I had Jerry Rice on my
(01:13:55):
play sheet. The only player I did it was Sterling Shop.
I did it was certain guys, but Jerry Rise his plays.
I had a list of just his plays, and I
wanted to get to those plays because he had the
ability and the smarts, okay, to do it correctly, to
find the open spot, to turn a zone passing scheme
(01:14:15):
into maybe a man passing scheme with an adjustment is
the route, And I think that's what we're seeing. But
to your point, Chuck, I don't get it either. If
I'm playing against him, you know I'm gonna knock him.
I'm gonna have I'm gonna hit him at the line
of scrimmage. Don't let him get because he's you you know,
there's not a lot of passes that he catches with
(01:14:37):
that that's in a crowd. He seems to like find
open spaces and then Sam's hitting him with it. So
it is a little bit of a puzzle. You you
watch the films, you study it like that, he looks
like he's just open all the time.
Speaker 15 (01:14:52):
Well, he's he's certainly open in the middle of the field.
There's times where look the tape, I got up ruler
than morning. There there's a few times where he's lined
up as the widest receiver. It's press coverage and and
he he was gloved up pretty good on either a
go route or an out route or what have you.
So I know that Chuck wasn't being literal to say
(01:15:15):
he's always open. He what he really means is he's
almost always open. And that is absolutely true. But but Mike,
you know a couple of things. I know you had
Darryl Jackson in the backfield and and and other receivers
where you'd actually put him in as a halfback. And
you know, for me, I look and I say, wait, wait,
(01:15:35):
if you got your number one receiver in the run
in the backfield, how does you know? And I watched
Bobby Wagner how he defended here here JSN comes out
on an option route and the first time, and and
you would think I would I would think that Bobby
Wagner would know of anybody.
Speaker 6 (01:15:54):
Oh, here comes the option route. They're in his own coverage.
Speaker 15 (01:15:57):
You would think he'd squeeze as the as the hook
the you think he'd squeeze to the option route.
Speaker 6 (01:16:02):
But he didn't. And see I got fourteen yards and
then man to man. Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:16:06):
Clearly a four way break, Mike, you know, inside outside,
hook it up and zone or go vertical. If you
think you got him. Sam Darnold kind of pumped. He
thought he was going to the outside, but uh uh,
and Jigbo was taking it deep. He get twenty two yards.
It gets you a field goal right before the second quarter.
Two big completions to JSN out of the backfield as
the halfback.
Speaker 6 (01:16:27):
Just talk to us about your thought.
Speaker 15 (01:16:29):
About that when you've done that in the past, what
you're expecting and and and certainly we saw some some
yield out of that last night.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
Well, if you if you kind of can't anticipate maybe
what kind of coverage you're going to see, and you
have a player like in Jigomunt or a Darryl Jackson
or a Stirling Shark like I had put him in
the backfield. You you know, you got he he should win.
That a good even if the even if the linebacker
(01:16:58):
is really good and all that you have him. There's
a lot of ways to go on those option routes,
and it's a pretty good concept. But to your point,
if he's lined up there the defense, they should be
yelling to each other. It's an option, you know, they
should be alerting each other to the potential for that
type of route. But he was, he was open. I mean,
(01:17:20):
they didn't do that. And and and dan quint listen,
I think the world of him, and he's a defensive guy.
But their defense last night. Give the Sea Ops credit.
But there Washington's defense last night wasn't there. It wasn't there.
Speaker 7 (01:17:34):
Yeah, coach, I mean it seems you I look at
different numbers and try to get information so I can
ask you guys semi decent questions from time to time,
and yet it didn't work.
Speaker 6 (01:17:45):
No, it's not working. Yeah, Well, I got more things
to look at.
Speaker 7 (01:17:49):
There's billions of websites and I'm bound to stumble upon
one that gives me a good question. But I mean,
just looking at some of the PFF numbers. I mean,
he is pretty much lights out across the middle, short
stuff across the middle. I know that there's complaints around
here for a long time with Russell that maybe you
couldn't see that area or whatever it was. Is there
anything in particular that allows him to be as successful
(01:18:13):
as he is, because there's a couple third downs while
he was in the middle of that sixteen for sixteen
streak that he just you know, hooked up with Aj
Barner I know was one of them. There was one
I think ken Walker coming out of the backfield where
he just sees it well or reads it well or
is it scheme oriented, because it does seem like those
are just kind of quick, you know, dump off passes,
but they end up turning into some decent yards after catch.
Speaker 1 (01:18:36):
Yeah, I think I think that's the thing that impresses
me too. Lucky. I think he he understands the US
playing anticipates, he understands what the route is, where your
guys are. You know, I've said it, I've said it
many times that you have a pre snap read. Okay,
this is what the coverage I think they're in. This
(01:18:56):
is my progression one, two, three, four, five, whatever it is.
Now take one step away from the center and move.
So it's not the coverage you thought it was going
to be, but it's this coverage and it changes your progression.
Speaker 6 (01:19:09):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
That takes some time in a system to learn that
and be efficient in that. But I see him doing that,
and you know, being with Qubiac before, maybe being a
little familiar with the system, but that takes experience, and
he's he's just in that zone right now where he's
making those decisions, you know, based on what he sees,
(01:19:32):
and he's really smart, and he's delivering the ball in time,
and he's very accurate with his passes.
Speaker 8 (01:19:38):
I'll say, Mike hombriand Hugh Millan with us, who you
are Monday morning quarterbacking after last night's thirty eight fourteen
blowout when in DC against the Washington Commanders, And I
do need to ask you about you brought up Dan
Quinn the decision to keep Jade and Daniels in at
the end of the game. I didn't think it was
(01:19:59):
all that big of a deal, coach, but this morning,
a lot of people, Commanders, fans, a lot of analysts
believe that he should have never been in and exposed
to injury there at the end of the game. How
would you have handled the blowout loss and whether or
not Jayden Daniels should be playing with eight minutes left
in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Yeah, I would. I would have taken him out. I
have done that. I did that. I did that with
hassleback against the Steelers one year. You know, we weren't
getting anywhere and I just we couldn't protect very well
that particular day, and I said, I pulled him out. Now,
he was a little upset, you know, as you can imagine,
but I said, listen, I'm doing this for your own good.
(01:20:40):
Just take it easy to get out of here, you know.
And so I've done that, and I would. You know,
it always comes back to haunt you when the kid
gets hurt. And he got hurt, I mean, and so
and he they need him, They need that player at
quarterback to have a chance. And so I understand why
(01:21:00):
people would the fans of the of the team would
would be upset with that because he could have taken
him out.
Speaker 15 (01:21:07):
Yeah, so he Mike, he could have taken him out.
Would you take your critique to rise it to the
level that you think that that was some type of
egregious mistake by dan Quinn. And and I don't want
to repeat all the numbers, but in the prior hour,
just just in the last five years, in situations like
(01:21:31):
what we saw last night, under eight minutes, a deficit
of thirty one or more points, I got twenty nine
starters that took at least one pass attempt. There's some
of the luminaries of the game, including Tom Brady and
Ben Roethlisberger and Jared Goff and many other Pro Bowls guys,
where other coaches have had their guys, you know, ostensibly
(01:21:55):
in the game to try and get some continuity. We
know it's a blowout, but let's make let's maybe get
a touchdown or get something going at the end of
the game so we feel a little better about ourselves.
And so there's many, many, you know, dozens of examples
where other coaches have done that. So while you would
not have done that, would again your critique lie at
(01:22:16):
rise of the level. No, dan Quinn made a big mistake.
That quarterback should have never been in that game. Where
are you in that regard?
Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
Well, I'm not to the end of that that's strong,
but I would have taken him out. I would have
taken him out. But you know, I mean, every coach
has to make that decision. And you bring up a
good point if they could get something going then on money,
you say, okay, we can do this, but we played
a lousy first half, but this is how we can
do it. Yeah, I guess you could make that point
(01:22:46):
on Monday. But when you lose the player, Believe me,
he's going to be thinking about it. Dan's going to
be thinking about it, now, what should I have done?
And you know he might in the press conference where
you know, we wanted to do with the things you mentioned,
get some continuity, But down deep inside, he's gone boylast
(01:23:06):
year taking him.
Speaker 7 (01:23:07):
Out, Yeah, I mean, I guess in hindsight it definitely
he's he's wishing that he had at this point too,
I am. When you're watching this, I mean, that game
was impressive, the way in which Bang Bang Bang. I mean,
the offense just went down the field and opened up
a really big lead, and yet the defense it was
(01:23:27):
a can of whoop boss.
Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
They opened it right up.
Speaker 7 (01:23:29):
I mean, but the defense also was kind of stifling,
and it did look like they had Jayden Daniels kind
of guessing what was going on coverage wise. I mean,
are you at this point, about the halfway point in
the season, is impressed with Mike McDonald and what he's
doing on the defensive side as much as you are
the offense right now, you.
Speaker 1 (01:23:47):
Know, But he's doing a great job hockey and that's
that's his deal. I mean, he's the head coach, but
he's also the defensive in essence, the defensive coordinates his defense.
They are playing lights and they've had injuries. They're playing
with different guys in the secondary now and they're stepping
up and making plays, but they're front and the different
looks that that they're giving the opponent, uh, and the
(01:24:11):
effort and that the intensity. It's it's give give Mike
a lot of credit. Give this defense in there. I
think they're getting better. It's it's impressive to me. Now
there's a couple of tests that are gonna come up
to rams, you know, a better football team. You got
to play the forty nine ers again. But I was
looking at the schedule and I'm I'm checking off things
that I think, yeah, they should win this one, they shouldn't,
(01:24:34):
and it's looking pretty good. For them.
Speaker 8 (01:24:36):
Yeah, It's it's as if having a quarterback go perfect
in the first half of four touchdown passes and scoring
two touchdowns thanks to a fumbled kick return in nine
seconds are beneficial to victory. It's that's what I'm gathering
from this meeting of minds here, my Hugh Millon, Mike
Holm grin with us. It's Monday Morning Quarterback, and we
(01:24:59):
got a lot more to discuss. I want to get
Hugh's thoughts on and coaches on Nick even Worri as well.
We haven't even discussed him with our experts here this morning.
Speaker 6 (01:25:09):
A lot of other ground to cover.
Speaker 8 (01:25:10):
Will continue with Monday Morning Quarterback next on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM.
