Playoff fashion. Game three is today and we're here for

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Bucky Jacobs dads, Right, We hung out with the eminem
and b Rabbit last night talking all kinds of trash.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, there's been a lot of bad trash talk here
over the course since we got turns out, Ashley, everybody
in Detroit, Michigan. I was braced for the worst. Couldn't
be nicer, really really yeah, like veryverly nice, Like everybody
that we run into. I've been ready to do some
really rough trash talk. Yeah, and they've ruined it by
being so kind and welcoming.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah, So but I'm not gonna stop. I mean, the
fingernails are already out.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Gonna clip them. Uh. So we're coming after you. So
cheddar Bob and uh and be Rabbit tried to drag
us across eight mile. We'd have nothing of it. We
put them in their place right away.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, wrap battled them right to right out, right across
eight miles. What we did, like, get back over there.
I was proud of you. Yeah, thank you. I mean
I was spitting some rhymes and whatnot. It's what I've
known to do, especially when I come to Motown.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
I was all expecting, like, hey, Diana Ross, yep, yeah,
you were with the Supremes. What's it like to have
a band named after a pizza? Really trash talk? Yeah,
ready to go? Hey Tom, I like nice Detroit Tigers
hat that you wear all the time. What's the PI
and magnum P I stand for pathetic idiot?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Oh wow, well you were going to bring that yeah
dead right from the first person we met Danielle at
the hotel, just pleasantess all get out. We're like, heyn
get one of these eighteen dollars waters and she like
it's on me. Go ahead, take it, Like what say?
What the way you just gave me something free?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Such a great example right there. They're like coming in there,
Oh yeah, we're from Seattle, we're out of town. Were
weir the f you up, Danielle, And she's like, take
some waters on me. You have a chocolate bar?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, hey, why not? Welcome to Detroit.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Wow, she was a.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah. Turns out that it is.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, I'm gonna write her a five star review. She
is the best. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
That's some serious trash talking right there.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, you better watch yourself, Danielle. You'll get four and
a half stars.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah. Eat that up and you'll get I'll drop you
a four and a half stars. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, thanks for the thanks for the letting us know
to go to Tommy's bar. It was awesome, like amazingly
enjoyed it, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Danielle, your tremendous advice is chapping my ass. So we're
to take it out on you Tuesday night.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
It has been something else. It has been something else.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Uh, well, welcome into the show. H yes. Uh. I
don't know what got into the bosses, but they're like, hey,
you want to go on the road for the entire postseason. Yeah,
what's the trick, Well, nothing, We're gonna put you ou
in a really nice hotel. Normally we don't.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I am pretty sure there's something fishy going on here.
I think this is iHeart Detroit in action. Maybe we
walk in one Danielle spectacular spectacular, beautiful hotel got a
little bit of a radio theme to it as well. Yes,
I think we probably need to find who to think here.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I think you guys might have gotten sent to the
wrong hotel because aren't you supposed to stay at like
a days in Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, usually?
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah? Where are your feet stick to the floor? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I think something something got mixed up here.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, this thing's amazing, other than the fact that it
has eighteen to twenty seven light switches and it's hard
for me to figure out. I just want the lights off,
and it's like, oh, these are gonna just dim these
three over here.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Typical Michigander trying to confuse me with all the light switches. Well,
it's not gonna work. We're gonna destroy you Tuesday night. Yeah, yeah,
ella ellam shuck.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Oh man, you guys and your trash chucking.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
It's for we are serious. We are already.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Hey, Carry Carpenter, nurse home runs. Handsome boy.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Oh got him now he might by Floyd Kerry Carpenter.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
You seem like you help lot of kids out.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Jerk.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
You're going down, charity boy.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, charity boy, give a lot of money to charity. Okay,
we're gonna own.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Whatever. Their beautiful smile, charity boy, and.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
I will show you. We'll wipe that gorgeous smile off
your face and no time.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, and then you'll probably have another one on five
minutes later.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Take one off.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Just go tell him how handsome he is, just to
make him uncomfortable.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
We should.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You are really cute.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
You just be like, just go up.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
You are are You're gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
You just go up and go better looking person.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, turn around, give me a spin. Carry, I'm gonna
be watching you all game.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
That would throw them off.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
I'm gonna try it. It just threw me off. I'm
just watching him go through the motions right here. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
So yeah, it's great to be here, it really is.
And and yeah, and we're very appreciative. Certainly, we weren't
expecting to be heading out on the road for the
divisional round of the playoffs, but when given the opportunity,
Bucky and I jumped at it. We're doing our show
from the iHeart studios here in Detroit. Turns out there's
not another sports radio station. They don't have one here
(06:16):
at the iHeart family, so we're standing out like sore thumbs.
He likes all the young rocker DJ they're all.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Probably dress really hip.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah, there is a little bit of a hip dressing
situation going on around here. I don't fit in.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I feel under tattooed for sure, just based on my
one trip to the bathroom. Again, very nice people, oh yeah,
and shitter chattering while we were urinating. Uh huh, and
I'm kind of doing something here, came out, he said, whoa,
I big fella.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I tried to fit in the best I could because
in the mornings that's where I do something other than urinating.
Oh yeah, And so I had to go do that
while a guy waited for me at the door. So
I tried to come off all cool, because that's the
least cool thing in the world that you can do,
is show up at somebody's house and use their restroom.
(07:10):
And so I came out and I said, you know
how it works, man, you got to do your blow
right before the show starts.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, well in Detroit, you know what it's.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Like here in Detroit, Detroit rock city.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah, that's what it means, is where Barry Gordy's from.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, I didn't get a text asking you. How does
it feel to do a show at nine o'clock?
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Different? Wonderful it feel? Yeah, I mean it's probably the
most sleep I've gotten on a Monday night, and that
ten years, and yet I could have I could have
gone longer. Yeah, I was really comfy in my wonderful
hotel bed.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, I'm completely everything is all ye created, the beds. Yeah,
probably very fluffed up. I mean it's it was weird
to wait cup with the sun already kind of rising.
Not that we don't get that for a couple months
during the summer in Seattle, but it was. And then
like things were open. We're walking downstairs to go to
that little breakfast thing and get a I got a
(08:12):
latte this morning. Somebody else made my coffee for me
that hadn't happened in ten years. Got a little muffin
that Danielle requested, which was a sausage, egg and cheese
inside of two pieces of French toast. Oh, Danielle, you
are amazing and yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
And then he's really come through it.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
We we scheduled our uber to get here to work,
scheduled at for eight o'clock. That was our only one
almost mistake. The guy was there early and almost left
because it was seven fifty five. He's like almost, I'm
getting ready to pull out here. I'm like, well, I
scheduled it for five minutes in the future from right now.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yeah, you can't.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
You can't leave me when you're early early. Yeah, come
to find out. Timothy is his name. He uh, former
truck driver. They went out of business, And you said
it perfectly. I don't know how that dude was a
truck driver. Who the hell did he talk to? Because
he didn't shut up the entire driver I know.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, So yeah, just couldn't be nicer and it's but
it's not gonna stop us from trash talking. You hear that,
Bob Seeger turn the page on these nuts?
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yeah, got him? That's yeah. I see T shirts around here.
Detroit versus everybody. You better just worry about Chuck and
Buck and Ashley. Who's Detroit against right now?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Dan yell and are like fifty years old. Why are
you still calling yourself a kid?
Speaker 6 (09:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Grow up already?
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Rock.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Wait on, we take it out on you Tuesday and Wednesday,
right here in Detroit, right in your own backyard.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Like it. I like that.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
We've gotten the rock. He's just the rock now. See
he grow what he grew up, not kid rock?
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah yeah, oh yeah, yeah, he's.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
An adult, he's a grown up man.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, we're.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Kid going to do it against a grown up adult
rock nothing, nothing at all. Probably probably get paddled and
sent to bed. Did you hear what I told him?
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Yeah, we got you.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
If I'd known that that, you know, starting the show
at nine o'clock was going to make you guys this amazing,
I would really petitioned for this a long time ago.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah. Uh, Well, we've got a lot playing for you.
We got a lot to discuss here on the on
the program today, and then we got to get to
the old Ballyard a little bit later on. One thing
that we should tell you about, and we will talk
about throughout the course of the show today. There is
a little bit of sprinklage action taking place here, and
there's gonna be some stormage taking place a little later
(10:50):
on today, so we might be dodging rain drops in
game number three of the Divisional Series. They are we
already have kind of a change in believe it or not.
We're flying in and they, you know how, they announced
the weather like we're going to be landing in seventeen minutes,
and this is the weather you can expect here. I am.
(11:11):
I took a winter coat for goodness sake, because believe me,
I've gone to Cleveland for playoff coverage in my lifetime
and forgot to take a coke. Okay, so and then
so then you have to go buy a coat. So
I went, I got it. I made sure that I
brought heavy coat in case the weather turns out here.
And so we're flying in and maybe I should have
(11:33):
checked this, and they announce and it's eighty eight degrees.
Eighty eight degrees at seven pm and muggy in October
early October in Detroit, Michigan and muggy, So that didn't
seem to add up. And then of course overnight the
weather started to shift. We still are warmer now than
(11:57):
what we're going to be at high noon, so we're
coming down from the warmth that we're getting in for
a cold front and that convergence is gonna lead to
possibly a thunderstorm this afternoon. But as of right now,
they are forecasting that the thunderstorms should roll out at
about two pm, and the game, of course is four
(12:19):
pm here, so one pm back home. But there are
forecasting at this point that the thunderstorm portion of the
day is going to roll out before game time. But
we still might be dealing with rain throughout the course
of the ballgame, which I hate hearing because our guys
don't handle that well. And I don't want Logan Gilbert. Oh,
(12:42):
we're worried he's gonna stiffen up being taken out of
the game two and a third innings into a really
important game three.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Tonight, Yeah, really important. But I mean, I'm looking at
the other way. This is again half glass half full.
I mean, a little bit of rain. I don't want
rain delays because I'm with you on the fact that
we've watched how that has gone for this squad and
it hasn't been very good. But just a little some
smattering of rain that they play through. That's Seattle weather
right just now. Not that our guys are used to
(13:10):
playing it rain because we have a roof, Yeah, but
still the feel the atmosphere a little bit of moist
during the air. Let's go ahead and have it. But yeah,
it does sound like it's going to be fine. That
maybe if there's a little bit of rain or a
significant amount of thunderstorm type rain early, it's going to
be gone before the game starts and then they'll just
be a little bit rain.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah. The other thing, and I was kind of surprised
to see this this morning, but they really acted like
that Game two was lost. They're acting like here in
Detroit it was devastating. Here's the headline that I read,
Tigers waste rally and gut wrenching three to two loss
in game number two. Well, number one, we kind of
(13:49):
handed you that rally. There was a walk, there was
a miscall, and there was an error by our normally
you know, error proof first baseman. So it's not like you,
you know, it's not like you just rattled the bats
against Matt Brash. So you really we outplayed you that
whole game. So let's not act like you wasted a
rally and it was a gut wrenching loss. It would
(14:10):
have been a gut wrenching loss for the team that
outplayed you for nine hours. Yeah yeah, and lost because
of an error and missed poorly timed walk and everything
else that went into that. So that just, you know,
just say, even up one game apiece. Yeah, we're good. Yeah,
for what it's wrenched, I kept, I'm okay with.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Take that, with your gut wrenching loss that you never
deserved to even be in there for a minute. I
didn't even think about it from their perspective. That Wow,
to get that, to take advantage of the walk in
the air and then the double to tie it up,
only to have get calioed a cow dumping on you
and then Julio backing up with another double right behind it.
(14:49):
That maybe that does hurt. I hope it hurts Detroit
that way.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, really bad trash. Yeah,
we're gonna get under their skin. Yeah, really fully moisturized skin.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, you're awesome predisposition that you have. Take that with
your gut wrenching loss. Yeah. I thought you.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
People are going to be rougher man. I was all
prepared for you, and now it turns out you're nice.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, it's weird, even smell good.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yeah, I don't feel the gut wrenching loss.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Get a roof, Get a roof, Get a roof. We
don't have to worry about damn rain.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Talk to me about gut wrenching.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
This was the first time the rain, Detroit. I think
we just invented rain. Yeah, did around for a while.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
You have plenty of time to put a roof on
that thing.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Get your heads out of your butt, Detroit.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Take that all right?
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Well, we are underway on a obviously a very normal
Tuesday here on Chucking Buck in the morning. So let's
find out what is on tap for the rest of
the show.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
What's on tip?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
What's on tap?
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Alright? Game three of the American League Divisional Series that
tonight right here in Detroit, Michigan. It'll be the Mariners,
Logan Gilbert going up against the Detroit Tigers, Jack Flaherty.
The first pitch is scheduled for one o'clock. I think
we will start on time, but to do keep in
mind that weather is a factor throughout the course of
(16:16):
the day, something that we will talk more seriously about
a little bit later on in the show. The Toronto
Blue Jays and New York Yankees will also resume their series.
This time it shifts to New York and so Yankee Stadium.
They're hoping is the place where they can turn this
series around, because so far it's been nothing but Blue
(16:36):
Jays against the Yankees. They scored twenty three runs in
two games. And so that will be the second game
tonight in the American League Divisional Round National League Divisional Round.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers are both up
to oh as they start. They had the center stage
to themselves last night and Major League Baseball I should
(16:59):
give you an update on Josh Naylor. I'm sure you
heard it yesterday. We don't have any new information, but
obviously Josh Naylor he's out for personal reasons. He didn't
make the flight to Detroit. Doesn't mean that he didn't
get there overnight, and Dan Wilson doesn't feel obligated to
update us, that's for sure. But Josh Naylor, I guess
(17:22):
there's a distinct possibility that he is not in the
lineup tonight, which is certainly a big topic going into
game number three. His wife expecting a baby. We're assuming
that that's the reason he's going to be with her,
and I don't know, we'll see if we get more information,
but there is a chance Josh Naylor is not available,
(17:42):
let's face it, for either of these games in Detroit.
But we shall see, and so we'll update you on
that certainly. Talk about that later on in the show
Monday Night Football. The Jacksonville Jaguars were thirty one twenty
eight winners over the Kansas City Chiefs last night. Yes,
that's a factor fiction. When that's a fact. That's right,
Jacksonville one, that's right, not just covered one.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yes, right. I was sitting there, we were sitting at
Tommy's wonderful bar here in Detroit, by the way, and
I was.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Like, right, food's awesome.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah it was. Yeah, it was right when service Jacksonville
scored the touchdown to go ahead by three earlier, like
in the third quarter, and I said to you, I said,
setting up for Ashley to just tie her factor fiction
pick if they come down to score. And sure enough
they did. But yet it still worked out. So I
was happy for you, ash Thank you.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
I was too.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
I was like, please do not let it be three
pushes in a row like that just seems cruel.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Yeah, we couldn't handle another push. No, I'm tired of
being pushed around. That's all right, Vegas, I'll tell you that. Well,
it's It's also important to note that that's the next
opponent for the Seahawks. And those of you that fill
out your schedule at the beginning of the year on
schedule release day and you've determined the Seahawks record at
that point, you probably put a W next to ja
(18:56):
X on your little pocket schedule the day that it
came out. Well, suddenly the Jacksonville Jaguars look for real.
They're off to a four and one start, and we
travel to Jacksonville this week and are the underdogs. Vegas
has made the Seahawks the underdogs, and I think understandably so.
So suddenly that's a much more difficult game than what
we had forecast at the beginning of the year. Friday Night,
(19:19):
Husky's back in action. They will take on the Scarlet
Nights of Rutgers. So, yes, Friday Night, it could interfere
with Game five potentially of the Alds. It could split
our tension, obviously, but I'm kind of hoping we went
in four and Friday Night just can belong to the
dogs in Seattle. Rick new Isile's gonna join us this
(19:41):
morning at nine o'clock, and we got to talk with
coach new Isell because his son became the story of
college football over the weekend and he is proud papa,
So we'll get his thoughts on that and many other
things coming up today at nine o'clock. The NHL season
begins tonight. Real games, guil season games, three of them.
(20:02):
You've got the Blackhawks at Carolina, You've got Pittsburgh at
the Rangers, and you've got the Avalanche at the Kings.
The Kraken will not start until Thursday night when they
host the Anaheim Ducks. We will launch our Cracking coverage today.
Joey Decord's gonna join us. Also, Everett Fits you, proud
(20:23):
Detroit native Everett Fits You will be on with us today,
so we'll trash talk him. He's very kindly though. At
eight point thirty here this morning. So Kracking Thursday get
their season started. Their roster came together yesterday and nineteen
year old Berkeley Catton did make the roster, so did
young Ryan Winterton. They also are going to start the
(20:45):
season with three goalies. Maybe none of that happens if
Coppoccko and Ryker Evans weren't starting the season on the
IR but they are, and so Berkeley Catton, who Mike
Benton cannot stop talking about, is gonna make the opening
day roster for your Seattle Kraken. So we will get
you ready for Thursday, starting today right here on Chuck
(21:08):
and Buck in the mornings, but mostly we will be
talking Mariner playoff baseball and when we return, ABC's of
the MS come your way on Sports Radio ninety three
point three kJ R FM from Detroit. We've made the
trip with the team. We are here in Michigan and
we are ready for Game number three of the American
League Divisional Series. And all of this has been made
(21:30):
possible by Seattle's closest sports books, now Qualme Casino and Hotel.
Your place for a true end game betting experience. Download
the snow Qualme Casino Sportsbook app to get in on
the action while watching your favorite games at snow Qualme
Casino and Hotel. Details at snocasino dot com. Seattle's Closest
(21:51):
sports book, snow Qualme Casino and Hotel, and the ABC's
of the m something we've done all season long for
the Mariners Daily segment, and this of course a postseason
segment here, as we allow the alphabet to be a
guide through a number of different topics don't necessarily have
to be the top topics, but maybe they will be.
(22:13):
We left all of the letter K when last we
did this. K is for killer. It feels like a
killer to not have Josh Naylor in the lineup potentially
here tonight. But this team is deep enough, Bucky that
missing one guy for a game or two so that
he could be next to his wife and his newborn
child shouldn't shouldn't be a killer to the Mariners chances
(22:38):
here to know.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yeah, I mean, I love what he brings to the table,
even though he scuffled the first couple of games of
the playoffs here, I still love the way that he
goes about his business, and so it'll be missed. But
I mean there's times, I mean I can remember thinking
back to JP missing time with a suspension and Dylan
Moore comes in and performs as well as JP could
have even hoped to do. Now I feel like you're
(23:01):
losing something because it probably will be what Gino moving
over to first I would imagine, unless maybe they go
Luke Raley at first base interesting, So how they do that.
Maybe it's maybe it's Geno at first and Ben Williamson
at third, you're going more defensively oriented and a guy
that puts the ball in play, or you say, let's
give Luke Raley a start against a righty and flirty
(23:21):
that's starting for them, So who knows how they're going
to go. It's a step back. I mean, you definitely
have a lesser ballplayer that's going to be in the lineup.
But you're right, the lineup's deep enough that you're not
you shouldn't be reliant upon one guy and this team's not.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Yeah, you see this a lot, though, and you're not
giving any information and understandably so, I mean, there's a
reason that Dan Wilson just said he's got a personal
day and he didn't expand on it whatsoever, because it's
as personal a thing as you can do, and you're
entitled to your privacy in that moment. So for some reason,
I kind of expect to see him with the snazziest
(23:55):
dad belt you've ever seen in your life, where in
the sparkliest dad shoes you've ever seen a person wear,
and with a smile on his sometimes very serious face
I have a feeling he's going to be on the
Diamond tonight, but you never know.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
He just never know, right, I mean, it's if he
didn't fly with the team, I'm assuming that that probably
means that he went to go be beside his wife
and see how things are going to progress. Now, I
don't think he's Probably he seems like the competitor that's
that's more important than a playoff game. And so anybody
that's sitting online mother f and the guy for wanting
to be there, just shut up if you're It's like,
(24:35):
I can want both. I want him in the lineup
at the same time, I want him to be able
to be there for the birth of his first child.
So if I would think that he's like, hey, how
you feeling, how's it going, you know, if they're going
to induce which I sent that edible arrangement, you know,
but with the potosin in it. And yet if they're
not going to do that, I don't assume he just said,
hen't gonna sit there and wait, because you can't tell
(24:57):
when the stuff's gonna happen. I know he's not taking
the rest of the postseason off to wait around for it.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, I just have a vision of him right now,
you know, with his uniform already on, you know, his
bag packed next to his side, like you know, duffel bag.
You're not not like a suitcase. I duffle bag. So
that he just gets straight up and he's getting ready
to get on one of John Stanton's beer jets. And
he's just holding a little chuck Buck Naylor. Yeah, you
(25:22):
know in his armiler. Guess that's what he went with.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Yeah, a great car, yeah, nails.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Yeah, and he's just looking into his eyes and saying,
chuck Buck, I'll be back.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
I'll be bad. He's got to go win some playoffs. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
You watch Daddy go three for four tonight with six
runs bat in all right, yeah, right up. ELI was
for Logan. Logan Gilbert gets the start tonight. Of course,
you know that I wanted him to start game number
one of this series, so obviously I feel good about
him starting game number three. Now, we didn't win that game,
that game number one, but I don't put that at
(25:57):
George's feet. Uh So, I think I think by design,
I mean, they really wanted this Game three pitching advantage,
with Logan going against the Jack Flaherty and so you know,
maybe maybe could be two to zero. We'll never know
in hindsight, but I will say that having him fresh
(26:20):
ready to go for game number three on the road,
hostile environment, I feel pretty good about having Logan out there.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Yeah. Rarely do you get to go with your opening
day starter in the third game of a five game series,
and yet that's where we find prepare for it. Yeah,
So I mean the idea. I mean, and these these
two have faced off before. Back in July, middle of July.
It was it was Gilbert versus Clarity and Logan. That's
the game that he gave up two unearned runs in
(26:48):
the first and then went five and a third shout
out from that point on and we ended up winning
that ball game. So I think that they're looking at
how that whole thing pans out. When you look back
at that game, I mean, that was a game. You
did have Ben Williamson in there, it did have Luke
Rayley in there. Crawford was still hitting lead off at
that point in time. It was before you had Nayler
and Suarez, so a lot different a lot of things
(27:08):
have changed from this point to that point, or from
that point to this point, and so I'm gonna be
curious to see what it is, but I'm just excited.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
It's a big game, pivotal game. You don't want to
drop game three? Oh, it's monstrous. Absolutely. I don't want
to face Trek scuobl in game five. Not that I'm
like scared of it, but I would prefer to avoid it,
I'll say that. And the only way to do that
is to win both these games here in Detroit and
just take the series. And so Bucky and I can
just relax and enjoy our flight home and not have
(27:37):
to worry about anything else. Yeah another thing. No, I
won't be worrying about a thing. Ye, ships exactly, celebrating
like we do. People look at us strangely as we're
pouring water over each other's heads on the plane on
the way. Supposed to do that, I guess, yeah, whatever, Yeah,
usually not on a commercial flight. Finally, M is for Motown,
(27:58):
and yes we're here. But the players on the Tigers
might feel strange to be back in Detroit. They have
not been here a lot here in the last month.
They have not played a game here since September twenty. First,
think about that. I mean they've already played a series
(28:19):
and two games in the divisional round, and they have
not played a game here since September twenty. First, they
played twenty three games on the road in that No,
that's not true. That applies to the second statistic. They've
only played six games at home since September seventh, So
(28:41):
they played twenty three games and they've only played six
home games in that stretch, and they lost every single one.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Of those games.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
So they were home for a six game homestand lost
them all. That's during their rough stretch where they blew
the division. So they have not won a game at
all home since September sixth. It's good to know it's
October seventh. They have not won a game at home
in over a month, and here they are returning to
(29:13):
their beds and to their home stadium to take on
the Mariners tonight. So that's kind of incredible that that
kind of stretch can occur for a playoff team, a
team that makes the playoffs, that has reached the divisional
round has not won a home game and over a month.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Yeah, Well, I'm hoping Kerry Carpenter like completely lost track
of where the stadium is.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
I hope he got back to town and he had
a squatter.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yeah, yeah, in his apartment.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
He was up all night trying to get that guy
out of his living room.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Right, and then he just gave up and then sleeping
in a like an old detergent box and an alley
somewhere idea.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, we can hope. We can only hope that he
was trying to get evict the squatter last night when
he got back. That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
No, I live here now, mister Carpenter. Yeah, I don't care.
My name is Trevor. Yeah, very nice to meet you.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
I'll be out at the end of the month.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Yeah. I heard you were gone for a while and
nobody was looking after this place, and so I.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Just moved in. Yeah, if you'd like, you can sleep
in the bathroom, the master bedrooms.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
No, I'd rather you not cross the threshold of my home,
mister Carter. I don't want you to get you know,
take your shoes off. Yeah, I want you to feel
don't make yourself at home. Don't make yourself at your home,
all right, No more on this coming up a little
later on in the show. Also, We're gonna We're gonna
(30:36):
squeeze in some crack and talk today as well, and
of course the National Football League ever present. The Seahawks
suddenly have a different sort of outlook toward this week's
game than they might have had a month and a
half ago. We'll talk about a next. Sports Radio ninety
three point three kh a r f M. Hey, good
(31:01):
morning and welcome. It is Chucking Buck in the Morning.
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, a special edition
of Chucking Buck in the Morning. They have decided to
send we fools to Detroit, Michigan to cover for you
Games three and Games four of the American League Divisional Series.
And so here we are broadcasting live from the iHeart
Studios in Motown. Bucky Jacobson is here. My name is
(31:23):
Chuck Palin. It's all made possible by Snowqualme Casino, the
closest casino there in Seattle. And so we welcome you
to the show. Let me just give you thirty seconds
worth of headlines brought to you by frostbrewed cors Light.
Choose chill. It'll be Logan Gilbert against Jack Flaherty tonight
here in Detroit. First pitch is supposed to happen a
(31:44):
little after one. I will warn you there is some
rain in the forecast, so we'll see if it starts
on time, and we'll see if it gets disrupted by
rain this evening. But Game three of the American League
Divisional Series goes down today. Certainly our top story. The
Blue Jays Yankees also playing tonight, with the Blue Jays
up two oh but heading to New York for the
(32:04):
first time in the series. Meanwhile, the Dodgers and Brewers
have a stranglehold in the National League Divisional Round. They're
up too to oh. On their opponents. Josh Naylor, we
haven't had an update. All we know is that he
did not fly with the team here to Detroit, but
something tells me he's going to be in the starting lineup.
We shall see. Monday night football, Jacksonville three point winners
(32:24):
over the Kansas City Chiefs. They're four and one and
they are up next for the Seahawks will play in
Northern Florida a little bit later on this week. On Sunday,
Friday Night, Husky's taken on Rutgers, and tonight the NHL
season gets underway. Three games in the NHL this evening.
Cracking won't play until Thursday, and that means Joey Decord
(32:46):
has a little more time to get all fired up
to get this season underway. The Cracking goaltender now joins
us right here on Chuck and Buck in the morning.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Good morning, sir, what's going on, guys? Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Man, you took the time to come all the way
to our studios and we're not there.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yeah, what are you guys doing? You guys left me
hanging here. I thought I was coming to hang out.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
It wouldn't have been fun. We've had a good time
with you. Yeah, Man. Schedules, yeah, sliding doors. You know,
Bucky and I were like rolling Stone gathers no Moss, Joe.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Yeah, No, I get it. I get it. Hey, it's
a big deal. We got we got Mariners in the playoffs.
I love it.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
I love it. Do you love it? Are you into it?
Are your teammates into the Major League Baseball playoffs right now?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (33:30):
No, I think it's sick. I mean you see around
the city, like everywhere you go people wearing Mariner stuff.
People are so fired up. Honestly, for me, like it
gets me fired up because I'm like, I want this
for the Kracking, like to see how into it. The
city gets Seattle so excited right now, Like I want
this for the kracking and for me gives me extra
motivation to try to push extra hard for playoffs this year.
(33:50):
Do you ever play any baseball?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
I mean, I've always said I think hockey players would
be the rare other athletes that could perform in baseball
simply because of the stick to ball or stick to
puck aspect of it. The eye hand coordination. Yea, I
may or may not.
Speaker 8 (34:06):
Definitely may have been a Little League All Star when
I was growing up, so I can play a little bit.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I haven't played a lot, I know. That's like in soccer.
Speaker 8 (34:17):
I played soccer two growing up, and my coaches always
wanted me to play goalie in soccer because I was good,
and I was like, uh no, I play goalie in hockey.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
I want to play forward in soccer so I could
score some goals.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Uh. I would actually like to run around the playing surface.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Yeah, yeah, seriously.
Speaker 8 (34:31):
So when I played when I played Litle League, I
pitched and I played centerfield.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Are you so?
Speaker 3 (34:37):
So?
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Tell me do you think that this team based on
what you've seen and what you thought about in the
off season? You know, you talked about you want the
playoff fever for the Crack and is this it? Do
you think that this team's got what it takes to
have that happen at the end.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Of this year. I think they absolutely do.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
I mean, part of it is just magic, right Like
I grew up in Boston where lucky enough to watch
a lot of teams have success and win championships, and
so much of it is maybe not even having the
best team, and they have that magic. Well, in my opinion,
the Mariners have the best team right now. They have
the hottest players, and I think they have that magic too,
And then you had those two things together. It's a
(35:16):
pretty good recipe for success in the playoffs. And it's
just been so fun to watch. Honestly, I'm so happy
for those guys. Have gotten to know cal decently well.
And you know, obviously a bunch of those guys come
over to our games and we try to get to
their so it's cool to see them have this this
much success, and you know, I'm just bowling for him.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
And what about the Kraken, I mean, are you do
you think that will be having a playoff run to
Is that the field that you've got from this team
thinking about it all off season that the Kracking are
gonna end up taking us on a run in the
playoffs too.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
I genuinely think so yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:50):
I mean I already the vibes around the room, around
the team have been so good and so high so
far this this preseason and training camp, and now as
we lead into the season here, I think we honestly,
I think we have such a good group of guys
in hockey. It's funny hockey. There's so much or so
little separation, sorry, between the top and bottom teams in
(36:13):
the league, and there's so much parody, and I think
so much of what makes teams good is culture. And
I truly believe this is This is the best group
of guys we've had in this locker room so far
since I've been here, at least, and I'm just so
excited to get going.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
I think we have a lot of belief in our group.
Speaker 8 (36:29):
I really have enjoyed working with coach Lane and the
way he the way he coaches just makes sense for
me and the way my brain works. It's like when
you have a good teacher, right when you can understand
a teacher really well in class and stuff and that's
for me, is what it feels like. So I'm super
excited to get going. I think we have a lot
of belief in our group this year, and yeah, I
(36:50):
can't wait.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
I'm hyped. There's a few youngsters that are making the
opening day roster. What's it what's it feel like from
your perspective when you see some young guys like that
that are going to get to realize the dream of
playing in the NHL and making an opening day roster.
Speaker 8 (37:03):
Oh, it's so cool. It just it just brings me
back to the first time. I mean I only made
the opening day roster. I think it was two seasons ago,
so this is my third third full year with the team,
and it just brings so much like joy to see
them all fired up and excited and and you know,
you work your whole life to get to where you are,
and you know, every every single person has their own story,
(37:26):
and to see those kids get to go through with
what they have to all the ups and downs, and
it truly takes a village to see these guys are
For these guys to make it to the NHL and
to make it for the first time the opening night roster,
it's just a special feeling and we're excited to have
them in our group. Honestly, they're they're top players and
great people, and that's what we want in our locker room.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
We want great people and and they're gonna help our
team win games, and we're excited to have them.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Crack and Goalie Joey the cord with us here on
chucking back in the morning, of course, the Crack and
debut on Thursday at home again to Anaheim. More on
that in a moment. But you mentioned I mean, we
forget how young you are and how you're just getting
started with your career. You had such a good season
a year ago, Joey, and now you enter. I don't think.
(38:16):
I don't think I'm misremembering this your inter for the
first time as the clear cut number one goalie, not
sharing duties, You're the guy heading into this season. What
does that feel like in terms of a sense of accomplishment.
Speaker 8 (38:32):
Yeah, truth be told, I haven't put too much thought
into that for me, Like I try not to get
too big picture when I'm thinking about hockey. I think
for me, I try to focus on, Hey, how do
I help this team win hockey games?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
You know, whatever? Coach needs me to do, that's that's
what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 8 (38:49):
And if he wants me to roll out there every
night and and leave it all on the line, like
I am absolutely more than fired up to do that,
you know. So for me, I'm like, Okay, what do
I need to do to help team the team win
game one? Right, That's all I can focus on right now.
I can't be like, oh, you know, I'm the guy
I gotta play good for However many games like I
feel like that's that's an easy way to get overwhelmed.
(39:11):
And for me, it's like, okay, we play Anaheim night
one Thursday. Climate pledge be there by the way. But
you know, I'm like, how do I help the team
win the game? And for me, that's that's sticking to
my process, continuing to just keep doing the same things
that I've been doing and finding a way to help
the team win the game.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
And then after that we move on.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Joey Decord is with us. So we're in Detroit. As
you know, it is a hockey town here in Detroit.
So do you have any great Detroit stories or any
tips for us on how we should navigate the city.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Hockey town yeah, they love their hockey there. My dad
actually just got a job with the Red Wings, so
that's funny. Yeah, but no, nothing too crazy. I mean,
hopefully hopefully we play well against them when we play
them this year.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
What kind of fans are Red Wings fans during the
course of the game? Nasty type, a nasty lot.
Speaker 8 (40:05):
No, I would I would say they're a very educated type.
You know, those fans that really know hockey well. Did
Detroit fans know the game really well? So they're they're
more I would say, like analytical and look at it
from a coach's point of view, as opposed to just
rowdy fans who are there to drink a ton of
beers and have a great time.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Did you ever get hit with a squid in the
eye anything like that.
Speaker 8 (40:25):
No, No, I've been I've been lucky. They love to
throw the octopus on the ice there. That's like a
famous thing. I imagine being the guy that has to
sneak sneak an octopus into the game under your jacket.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
That's gonna be tough. I can't feel too good. It's
one thing to you know, flask, but an entire octopus
that just seems that seems extreme. All right, so you
have to be our eyes back there in the studio.
Did Ashley show up and just like sweatpants and you know,
scrunchy here to like a like a house robe.
Speaker 9 (40:57):
No, she looks very professional. She got a tuxedo on.
Tuxedo all right, now that tuxedos are weird? Yeah, no,
I like to dress up.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
Well, man, we hate that we missed you, but it
was good getting the chance to chat with you here
a little bit this morning. So we get started on Thursday.
You fired up? You ready to go?
Speaker 8 (41:18):
I'm pumped. I'm absolutely pumped. We'll see you guys there
hopefully you guys. Are you guys mean back or what?
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Well, we'll be back on Thursday. I don't know if
we can get to the arena in time, but we'll
see you at some point. We have to have our
Joey Decord FaceTime at some point soon.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Fair enough. I know you'll be watching either way.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Yes, absolutely perfect, all right.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Brother, thank you, yep, thanks for having me. Guys.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
All right, Joey de cour joining us right here on
Chuck and Buck in the morning. We're in Detroit. He's
in our studios. How weird is that weird? Yeah? Hanging
out with Ashley back at the studios. I hope he's
sitting in your chair.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Oh really, I put him in your chair. Yeah, he's
in your chair so that he's extra official. Diira's in
Bucky's chair.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
They're looking very professional. They I mean, you guys really
have been here. They were great on the air.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
I'm sure sliding around in your chair side decide. I
think he's gonna like, you know, he don't look at
the TV. You can't see past me exactly.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Always have to be a bit rough on stuff, you know,
they're always whacking their stick around on things.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
And he's.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Probably stretching out the arm rests because he's in full uniform.
I'm assuming he's.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Yeah, he flies in full uniform. You think he's gonna
come into studio not in the uniform.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Let's all pad it up. Yeah, you know, maybe he
took his helmet off. Sounded like it was very vocally clear.
Yeah yeah, but anyway, just got it. He had it
up over his head. Yeah, just sit on his forehead. Yeah,
with his water bottle and hand.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
Yeah. Yeah, that's our Joe.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
That's that's that's my Joey to accord.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
That's our guy. All right, so thank you to him,
and he's coming off such a good year, but the
team obviously a disappointing year, and so this year, hopefully
it all comes together. H I would imagine that is
the case when you're sitting there and you're a Seattle
athlete and you're watching another team's success. Hard not to
(43:08):
funnel that through your own prism. And so, yeah, I
believe him when he says, you know, I'm there to
support the Mariners right now. But also, man, you're sitting
there watching a Mariner playoff game and you know, forty
seven thousand people going nuts, hanging on the edge of
their seat every single pitch, and you can't help but
(43:29):
think about.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
Man, I want to do this. I want to be there.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
I want to be the goalie in Game seven of
the playoffs this year. We didn't make it last year.
We have made it a couple of years. We got
to get this done. I got to get this feeling back.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Yeah. I mean it's I have never obviously didn't play
long enough, and we weren't good enough when I was
in Seattle. But the idea of we're always wanting to
have your fans fired up because you're giving them something
to be fired up about. I mean, I think that
if there's one thing we know about the crack and
they're not going to be okay with not making in
the playoffs, They're they're going to make moves, They're going
(44:02):
to make adjustments, and so this year they're they're planning
on contending and him being back there in net Yeah,
you know for a fact he looks around Climate Pledge
and just like these guys are fired up right now,
you want them fired up, and you got to play
well in order to keep it that way.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Well, I've got exciting news for you for those that
went to bed last night saying to yourself, Man, I
can't wait to listen to Chuck and Buck in the
mornings tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
And I'm sure they're just going to be in their
normal old studio.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
I'm thinking about the excitement of us broadcasting from Detroit.
What would they Why would they think that we were
globetrotters like that, But here we are in Detroit. But
I would imagine the last thing that went through their
mind was like, oh, I wonder if there'll be a
cracking ticket Tuesday on opening week of the season. I mean,
that would be something special to get tickets to see
(44:51):
opening night at home against the Ducks.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Yeah, really special.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Well, guess what what, Guess what, dreamer. We're here to
make your dreams come true dreamers. Yeah, it is a
Cracking Ticket Tuesday, our first of the season obviously, and
we do have a pair of tickets to give away
to see the crack and play Thursday against the Ducks.
You can be there for the season opener, the home opener,
all in one big fancy chunk. So this is the
(45:20):
way Cracking Ticket Tuesday's work. Each hour, you're gonna listen
for a sounder to play, and that's a piece of audio.
That's just a piece of audio that will prompt you, Hey,
it's Crackering Ticket Tuesday. I don't know how we're doing
it this year. I haven't heard it yet, but they
will make it very clear on our airwaves that it's
a Cracking Ticket Tuesday. And when you hear that promotion,
(45:42):
when you hear that piece of audio played, you're gonna
be caller number ten at two oh six two eight
six ninety five ninety five. That's two oh six, two
eight six ninety five ninety five to win a pair
of tickets to see the crack and play this Thursday,
the home opener against the Anhim Ducks. So be listening again.
(46:02):
Every hour, somebody's gonna win a pair of tickets to
opening night. That's amazing. Uh, be the tenth caller at
two oh six, two eight six, ninety five ninety five.
Not right now. A lot of people aren't very good listeners.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
Bucky, but right not right now.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
You see the phone's ringing, I know.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
But when the audio plays to prompt you, not me talking,
not Bucky talking, not Ashley talking. We have professionals who
put together these little sounders that prompt you to call,
and then when you call. Uh, you're gonna have to
be lucky to be the tenth caller because three million people.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
Are gonna call.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
Can you remind them to not call right now? Again?
Speaker 1 (46:42):
Don't call right now?
Speaker 3 (46:43):
Yeah, yeah, we're not playing the audio.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
I'm just explaining the rules. This is like when I
explain if we were getting ready to play a board game.
We're getting ready to play Monopoly, and I say, you
get two hundred dollars every time that you pass. Go
don't take your game piece, your dog, the you know,
the Scottish terrier, and go ahead, and do that right now, right, yeah,
wait till the appropriate time to play.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
The game makes sense?
Speaker 1 (47:06):
Does that make sense?
Speaker 2 (47:06):
It makes sense to me. Okay, good, I'm not calling
right now.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
All right. Coming up next on the radio program, we
are going to play some Factor fiction at seven thirty five.
We won last night, got back on the winning track.
Thank you, Ashley. It's Bucky's picked today at seven thirty five,
So a chance for you to win one thousand dollars
as well. Here on Chuck and Buck in the morning,
we will also talk more about the divisional playoffs, as
(47:31):
that's what we're here for. Right in Detroit. Josh Naylor
is he gonna be here or not to play tonight?
We'll discuss it next. Sports Radio ninety three point three
khr FM jamming out in his room and mom saying
turn that noise down, and he's like, Mom, it's Jack White, right.
I don't know. Maybe I'm getting a little slept up
(47:51):
in it. No doubt that I'm in Detroit and I
feel like everywhere I go Everett fits he was with me.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Yeah, no, I get it. And normally, like literally every
single day outside of this week, I would be excited
about it. Instead it makes me better. I don't like it. Jeez,
this is like this, Everett hangs out. You can't say
that about a friend. Oh yeah, what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
Now on the crack and ever it fits you is
with us? Good morning, Everett? Not good Oh are we.
Speaker 5 (48:21):
Are we really friends? If we can't talk smack about
one another? I appreciate it. I welcome it. And Bucky
it's it's uh, Chuck, it's like you had that conversation
with my mom. It was literally thirteen fourteen year old
Everett turned that music down. It's eleven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
Go to sleep, all right, So give us some advice.
What's something that we should be doing. I mean, we're
not gonna have much downtime, but if we get any downtime,
what do we gotta make sure that we do?
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Here in Detroit?
Speaker 5 (48:55):
You gotta get Detroit style pizza, all right. You gotta
go fine the sixth Corner Pizza. There's a couple of
places you can go. Jets As always a classic place
in Detroit, but there's a few downtown by the ballpark,
So get some Detroit stw pizza. Also, maybe about a
(49:17):
mile from where you are, there's a Coney Island. There's
two Coney islands. There is American Coney Island and there's
Lafayette Coney Island chili dogs. And there's a lifelong, long
standing tradition of who's better. Are you a Lafayette coney
dog person or you an American coney dog person. There's
(49:38):
one out in the suburbs called National. We don't talk
about National. It's American, it's Lafayette. They're right next door.
Go get one, do a taste test, and you decide
who's got the better coney in the city of Detroit.
So those are the two things that I would recommend
that you do.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
We were driving to our hotel and I said to Bucky,
you know, I don't know what Detroit food that they're
famous for, other than the pizza. I don't know what
theyre and so we asked. As soon as we got
to the hotel, we asked Danielle, who was awesome and
I hope she loses Games three and four. But we
asked Danielle about what's the food, what food are you
(50:12):
known for? And to my utter shock, she goes Coney
Island food. I'm like, wait a minute, Coney Island in
New York and apparently that's what you guys are known
for here in Detroit. Coney Island food that was stunning
to me.
Speaker 5 (50:27):
Yep, Cony Island so chili, dog and fries. I'm telling
you it's uh. Try it, you will not be appointed.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
I did last night. I had some shoe string fries
with chili and cheese on.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
He went right to it. There you go, there you Uh. Well,
I know you wish you were with us hanging out
of the ballpark tonight. That'd be fun.
Speaker 5 (50:47):
I do, I do, I really do. Listen, I've not
I've not actually been to a game at Camerica Park
probably in ten years. I mean I've been gone for
a long time, so it's been a lot. It's been
a while since I've been back. But no, I mean,
you guys are in for a treat.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
You know.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
The last decade of Detroit sports outside of the Lions,
have not been kind to Detroit people. So you were
you were going to be experiencing a very rare home
playoff appearance in the city of Detroit over the last
ten fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
Well, I think under different circumstances maybe you would be
with us. But obviously you've got some big things to
do this week. So opening days coming up on Thursday.
How fired up are you for some crack and hockey, sir.
Speaker 5 (51:35):
I'm excited. I'm very excited. I think training camp for
me as well as for a lot of other people,
opened up some eyes that I feel a lot of
the criticism that this Cracking team has been getting maybe
a little bit misplaced. I think this team is shaping
up to be better than a lot of people are
(51:59):
giving them credit for. Or I mean, I think with
the new style, the new system of play that Lane
Lambert is trying to instill, you know, it's going to
be a very defensive minded style like it's going to
be a very hard working, grinding, depth team game. You
go back to year two, I say this all the time,
(52:21):
that style of play is what led the Crackett to
the playoffs. I mean they had thirteen guys with career
highs of goals, assists, or points. And then you know
every team in the NHL that they will tell you
through those first couple of years, but especially in year
two when the team made the playoffs, you know, the
Cracking they may not be the most talented team, they
(52:44):
may not have the superstar, they may not have this
or that, but man, they are going to outwork you
every single night. You know that you played this team,
You always lead games against Seattle hurting with new bruises
or you're just gassed. And I feel like that's the
type of style and that's the type of team that
(53:04):
we're setting up to see this season.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
H Fitzia. We talked to Joey to court earlier today
and I had asked him about the youngsters and the
Nyman and Winterton and Caton that are all making this
opening day roster and just asked him about how that
must feel, right because it was just a couple of
years ago that he had that same experience. But I'm
gonna ask you, how big of a role do you
expect these youngsters to play, because I mean, for the
(53:29):
most part, they're they're fairly unproven at the highest level.
Speaker 5 (53:33):
Yeah, I mean, and listen, you're not. There are no gimmes,
there are no charity, you know, roster spots in the NHL.
These guys have earned their spots and they're expected to produce.
And I think in the case of Yannie Newman, we
saw what he's capable of with a lethal shot. He's
you know, a big physical body. He's learning how to
(53:54):
use his strengths and improve of the NHL every single day.
We saw that last year in training camp. You know,
he at one point let the NHL in preseason goals.
Now say what you want. I know Al Koniski calls
him PPPs preseason for ten points, but listen, it still
goes a long way. It still goes a long way
(54:14):
and helping to grow the confidence. So I think Jonny
Newman is going to be a guy that's going to
be leaned on Bertie Katton. You know, his first you know,
his first couple of games in the preseason, you could
tell there was going to be that adjustment to the NHL.
But then Laye Lambert moves him over to the wing.
I thought that he had his better three games of
the preseason on the wing. He was a little bit
(54:36):
more creative. He was allowed to showcase that skill and
that speed and that creativity that he's known for. So
I think he's going to adjust well over there. And
with Ryan Winterton, this is a big opportunity for him
because when he was drafted in the third round back
in twenty one, he was seen as that middle six
(54:56):
power forward, think of a Jaden Schwartz type of player.
That's the kind of guy that they want Ryan Winterton
to be. And now he's going to have the opportunity
to get a consistent NHL shift. We've seen it and
flashes during his call ups over the past couple of years.
But now he's going to be able to slide into
the lineup on a regular basis and get that that
(55:19):
regular shift that I think a lot of young guys
need to be successful. You know, when you look at
a guy like Shane Wright, he was in, he was out,
he was in, he was out. If you can keep
these guys in the lineup for three, four or five
games at a time, get their timing right, get their
confidence up, not overreact to every mistake. These guys are
(55:40):
going to make mistakes. These things happen, but it's how
they react and how they respond and how they recover
from those mistakes I think that are going to leave
the biggest impact.
Speaker 1 (55:49):
Well, I'm a little worried that Mike Menton's too obsessed
with the Berkeley Catton he just talks about. I think
he carries a small little picture of him in a
wall as something.
Speaker 5 (56:01):
Like that he's got the you know, the Hey Arnold
shrine that Hella had to Arnold. You know in the corner,
he's got birthday cat and just stuff in the corner.
I listen, I get it. I mean, you know, he's
coming off of back to back one hundred plus points
seasons in the Western Hockey League. Definitely the most dynamic,
skilled prospect the Cracking have had. And you're in that
(56:25):
middle ground, You're in that no man's land. He's nineteen
years old. You can't send him to the American Hockey League,
So you know, you may have to treat these first
handful of games for him as kind of an extended
spring training extended training camp, if you will, Because is
he going to get better by going back to the
WHL continuing to dominate, You're not going up against better competition,
(56:49):
or you have him here in Seattle in the NHL,
You're practicing against NHL players, you're playing against NHL players,
You're on an NHL diet and weight plan and all
of that. So you know, there are a lot of
different items to weigh. When it came to does Berkeley
Chatton make this team? Does he not make this team?
I think he showed enough in preseason to be given
(57:13):
that extra look. But like I said, just because you're
nineteen years old and a rookie in the league, it's
not gonna be easy. We've seen that with Matty Veneers.
We've seen that with Shane Wright. It's gonna be work,
and I think he's up with the challenge and he's
ready to work.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
All right, Well, we will honor and respect your hometown,
but we are so glad you are one of us
now in Seattle. So what do you guys got planned
for Thursday night that we need to know about? Anything special?
Speaker 5 (57:42):
Well, we got the Blue Carpet, which I'm hosting. The
Blue Carpet side player arrivals start at three o'clock, so
I'll be there and announcing the guys as they head
up to the rink. We're gonna be giving away three
Amazon blankets giveaway that night to everyone who comes down
to games and listen, you got two chances to see
(58:03):
this team before they go on the road early. You've
got Thursday against Anaheim, You've got Saturday against Vegas, and
then this team's on the road for twelve days. So
I mean it's it comes at you pretty quick, like
I said, it's gonna be it's gonna be a better year.
I think that people giving us credit for You've got
a brand new intro that we're excited to unveil this
(58:24):
season as well. So make sure that if you're coming
to the game on Thursday, you're in your seats before
six fifty so you can check out the brand new
intro that we got a lot of cool things to
the fans, new concession items, new merchandise items. I mean,
this is it's going to be, you know, a very
strong year. Definitely off the ice, but I think on
(58:46):
the ice as well for the this season of Crack
and Hockey.
Speaker 1 (58:49):
That's right, and then the Everett and Al show right
here on the flagship for the Crack in Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM. You are the man. We
look forward to seeing you again and having further conversations
about this. So thank you, sir, Appreciate it, and have
a blast Thursday night.
Speaker 5 (59:05):
Hey, thanks so much, guys. Enjoy Detroit. Say hi to
my mom for me, and tell her that I will
be home for her birthday in November.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Okay, we will. She wants to meet us at Tommy's
tonight that's probably where we're gonna be afterwards, So that'll
be greatat spot evert fits you the voice of your
Seattle cracking right here on Chucking Buck in the morning.
Of course, the team debuts this Thursday at home against
the Anaheim Ducks. And for those wondering, it is a
cracking ticket Tuesday, that's right, we're gonna do it for
(59:34):
the opener. We've got tickets to the opener that we're
giving away every single hour here on the flagship. So
when you hear that piece of audio, it's we call
it a sounder, but it's just like a piece of audio,
and it's very clear as to what the message is.
It's going to indicate for you to call at two
oh six two eight six ninety five ninety five two
(59:55):
O six two eight six ninety five ninety five when
you hear it, be the tenth caller and you're going
to win. You're not going to qualify for a pair
of tickets. We're going to give you a pair of
tickets to see the opener Thursday against Anaheim. Maybe they'll
even let you watch walk the blue carpet and ever
fits you will.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Announce your name. That'd be cool. That's not gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
Oh, but nonetheless all sorts of It's not just the game,
it's a big ceremony. It's a big night, and you
got a chance to be a part of it. So
every single hour be listening for that sounder and your
opportunity to win a pair of tickets to see the
Crack and play Thursday at Climate Pledge Arena coming up next. Man,
we get ready to face the Tigers in game number three,
(01:00:35):
and I wasn't expecting this enemy to possibly spoil our plans.
We'll talk about it next. Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJRFM each time to talk all things college football.
Speaker 7 (01:00:47):
It's just like the menu at Taco Time. You just
can't get enough.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
You just can't get This is our weekly visit with
Rick Neuheisel, brought to you buy Taco.
Speaker 7 (01:00:56):
Time, not those new hidels. Used to be a moniker
of mine, thig you.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Out now on your home for college football Saturdays. Here's
Natcho's new Heisl on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM.
Speaker 6 (01:01:09):
This is college football and I want you to get
it all over yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Well, good morning, live from Detroit, Michigan. It is the
Chucking Buck in the morning radio program. That's right, they've
sent us on the road with the Mariners. Will be
here for Division Game number three, Division Game number four
postgame coverage coming your way as well with Bucky Jacobson
and myself. Good to be in Detroit. Never been to
Detroit before, and so it's been fun our first twelve
(01:01:37):
hours or so here in Michigan, and we're looking forward
to being even more fun tonight and tomorrow when we
return home Thursday with a series win against the Tigers.
But more on Major League Baseball, more on the Mariners,
coming up with the Old Judge. At nine thirty every Tuesday,
we talk college football with our college football insider. That's right,
(01:02:00):
joining us again on the program. Jerry Neuheisel's dad is
with us here on.
Speaker 7 (01:02:08):
Trewer words were never spoken. Trewer words were never spoken.
I had needless to say, I had a good weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:02:15):
I had lots of fun this weekend. Spent a lot
of time answering a lot of texts, well wishers.
Speaker 7 (01:02:22):
And all that kind of fun.
Speaker 6 (01:02:23):
And for any parent out there, they know there's nothing
better than watching your child have fun on a big stage.
Speaker 7 (01:02:31):
So that was a tremendous weekend for the New Hiels.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Yeah, and I would think you were questioning whether or
not you're his real fathers. Then say, he looks exactly
like you, he talks exactly like you, and he thinks
exactly like you. At least you never have to worry
about that at any.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
Point during your adult Well, I only have to apologize
those three things. Well, the acorn didn't fall far from
the tree on this one.
Speaker 7 (01:02:59):
He you know, it was fun.
Speaker 6 (01:03:01):
He got the job on Tuesday night. I literally, this
is how fast things work in the media. Bruce Feldman,
who's a terrific reporter and the analysts for Fox, texted
me that he asking me the question is Jerry the
play caller? And I looked at the text and I'm
(01:03:22):
saying what So I called my son and he said
they just told me three minutes ago, and Bruce Feldman
already had it.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
And I said, okay, so what's the plan here? He goes, well,
we can't do much new because they'd already had their
Tuesday practice. So I said, all right, well, here's what
I know about Penn State. You've got to block their
defensive ends. You gotta And you saw a lot of
chip help and all that kind of stuff, and the
next thing you know, they score their first five drives
(01:03:54):
the of the second half. Coming into the game as
last in the Big Ten in offense. So it's incredible
what can happen when everybody pitches in. It's incredible what
happens when you give everybody a lot of hope. And
then it's incredible what can happen when you have a.
Speaker 7 (01:04:08):
Really good quarterback?
Speaker 6 (01:04:09):
And Nico Iamalaiama was a really good quarterback on that Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
Yeah, yeah, to say the least, I mean ran for
what one hundred and twenty eight yards and a few
touchdowns himself. And yet I mean was their conversation. I
mean you said, yeah, okay, Penn, say you better block
their past rush, you better block their dns. Did you
guys have conversation after he you got to talk to
him and he was going to take over the play
calling duties. Did you guys actually talk about, you know,
(01:04:36):
talk shop so to speak.
Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
Oh yeah, I mean whether or not he listened is debatable,
but as dads will, they offer advice.
Speaker 7 (01:04:48):
And yeah, we talked about And the.
Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
One thing that I am most proud of is that
I did I go, Now, when you win, here's what
you say, because they're going to want to talk about you.
You got to be talking about others. And to script,
he did that beautifulay m.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Yeah, Well he's been called Rick new Eiel's sun his
entire life. So for a little while, you're gonna be
Jerry new Heeisel's dad.
Speaker 7 (01:05:14):
So I want to get fine with it and just
ing with it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 7 (01:05:19):
It was a great day. And this is what makes
college football.
Speaker 6 (01:05:22):
I mean, this hadn't happened in forty years, guys, A
team that was zero to four beating a top ten team.
Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
Yeah, yeah, just a remarkable year round. I mean, I
mean yeah, I mean, I mean, let's face that, the
Bruins could not have looked worse in their four games,
and then all of a sudden, it looks like the
answer to their prayers was Jerry Neuheisel.
Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
What I was great to see.
Speaker 7 (01:05:48):
Here's what I need from the two of you.
Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
You you need to make sure that Michigan becomes uh
this magic. So the Mariners need to get this done
in Michigan. And then here come the Ruins to play
in East Lansing this particular weekend, and we'll see if
we can.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
Have a suite there. Well, we've been doing a lot
of trash talk this morning with Michigan, so maybe Bucky
and I can intimidate the Wolverines.
Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
So we do that make things easier for Jerry and
the Bruins.
Speaker 6 (01:06:16):
Rick new Isle, it's the Spartan all the Spartans. The
Wolverines are out here in Los Angeles. Don't you worry
about them? Okay, Spartan? Yeah, all right, My bad, My bad,
my bad.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
UCLA at Michigan State, Well, we'll talk trash about the
Spartans too. Uh. It's Juggabox Sports Radio ninety three point
three k a r F. M. Rick new Isel joins
us every Tuesday, And in case you didn't know what
we were talking about, his son Jerry got promoted to
the play caller with UCLA, who was just off to
a terrible start this year, and all of a sudden
(01:06:50):
they cannot be stopped by a top ten team in
the country. The Penn State and Nitney Lyons pulled off
the upset of the weekend, one of the biggest upsets
in the last few years, and Jerry Neuheisel has become
the Prince of Los Angeles since that time, and that
is that's Rick's baby boy, so very proud moment. If
you saw the coverage, it was outstanding watching Rick watch
(01:07:12):
his UCLA bruins guided by his son leading them to victory.
It was fun. It was a fun Saturday. I don't
know if you had time, being proud dad to see
how Washington remarkably came back in the fourth quarter against Maryland.
But what did you catch of that?
Speaker 6 (01:07:29):
I My eyes were elsewhere, to be fair, but it's
a remarkable come from behind victory given the road woes
that Washington faced last year, and it sets it up
now for this kind of magic to continue. I know
they have Rutgers this weekend on a Friday night, but
(01:07:53):
when you go on the road and playing a really
good Maryland team that I think it was undefeated going
into the game.
Speaker 7 (01:07:59):
And you find a way to come from twenty back.
Speaker 6 (01:08:03):
On their turf, that is a game changer in terms
of the locker room mentality and what's possible. And for
any concerns about the hangover effect of the Ohio State loss,
those are washed away and now really everything's possible for
Washington going forward, and I think that's exciting. I think
(01:08:25):
their schedule is manageable, but it's exciting given where.
Speaker 7 (01:08:30):
They are and the talent of their skill coach.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
I mean, the idea of anything being bigger than what
you got to witness as a father would be silly.
And yet I still am curious where your mind went
as far as other storylines that just, you know, obviously
pale in comparison to what we were talking about to
start this interview, but I mean, just across college football,
there were some other big storylines. What was hitting you
(01:08:55):
the most?
Speaker 6 (01:08:57):
Well, the Alabama win, I think Kaylin or Washington fans
are familiar with Kaylan.
Speaker 7 (01:09:03):
I think he's doing a remarkable job with this guy,
Ty Simpson, the quarterback there.
Speaker 6 (01:09:08):
Had another really good game that's a really good Vanderbilt team,
had chances, you know, fumbled the ball in the red zone,
but still came away with a victory. And now Alabama
goes on the road to play at Missouri, a team
that you know, feels kind of like Robbie Dangerfield, a
little disrespected right. As a matter of fact, Eli Drinkwitz,
(01:09:30):
the head coach of Missouri, was the only coach in
the SEC that said he wanted automatic qualifiers rather than
you know, the committee to pick the best teams for
the college football Playoff. And the reason is, he said,
they picked us to finish eleventh or twelfth this year
in our own in our own conference, and we won twenty.
Speaker 7 (01:09:49):
One games the last two years.
Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
So Missouri gets, you know, one of the top brands,
if not the top brand in college football in Alabama.
Coming to what they call Como Columbia is urry. Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
And here comes a.
Speaker 6 (01:10:03):
Really good Alabama offense against the you know, a defense
that's given up a lot in the way of rushing
yards over the last couple of weeks. And Missouri's got
the top running back in the country.
Speaker 7 (01:10:16):
This kid, I'm at Henry was at Louisiana Monroe and
he's already got over seven hundred yards rushing. So this
is going to be a wild game in Como this weekend.
That one is spicy.
Speaker 6 (01:10:27):
But Kaylin and Ryan Grubb being paired back together, you
know they've got they've got some hot dice right now.
Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
Offensively, Yeah, that quarterback can play too. Rick new Isiel
is with us, a segment brought to you by Taco
Time joins us every Tuesday to talk some college football. Uh.
And you know, it's kind of crazy. I mean, the
Red River Rivalry is this weekend and Oklahoma's ranked number
six in the country. Texas, who started number one, is
not ranked right now. I mean, and yet I'm going
(01:10:58):
all in on Texas. This is like Super Bowl Rose Bowl.
This is everything on their season. Arch madness is all
at stake this weekend, and I have a feeling they're
going to respond. But how crazy is it that we
are going into Red River Rivalry week with Texas and
Penn State outside the top twenty five looking in.
Speaker 6 (01:11:22):
It just goes to show you you don't get to
do it because people vote you in.
Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
You got to do it on the field.
Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
I'm shocked.
Speaker 6 (01:11:31):
But your sentiments right there are exactly the reason that
Texas is favored in this game. Texas has started as
a three and a half point favorite.
Speaker 7 (01:11:42):
I think it's down in two and.
Speaker 6 (01:11:43):
A half now, but they're favored in this game. And
I know a lot of people are saying that because
John Matteer, the quarterback who transferred from Washington State to Oklahoma,
had that hand surgery. But I'm reading a lot of
reports that he may be available now in what shape
Willy be in who knows, but Oklahoma has won games
(01:12:06):
with that defense since Brent Bennable's arrived. The offense has
been a little suspect until our Buckle and Matier joined
forces there in Norman. This game, to me, is going
to be really interesting. But you're right, this is kind
of a sark last chance at redemption, at least for
twenty twenty five, given the accolades that everybody was heaping
(01:12:28):
on them in the preseason.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
Yeah, Rick, I mean the most interesting game for me
this weekend is going to be Indiana coming to Auts
and Stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Surprise, surprise.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
I mean it's it's biggest game of the weekend, not
just because the best team's playing, but also because of
how well Indiana's playing. So how are you looking at
that matchup?
Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
I think it's a great matchup. As a matter of fact,
I'm excited, Bucky. I'm going to Eugene. That's the CBS
game of the week and they're sending our crew to
do the studio show from the sidelines, so I'll be there.
I'd ask you for a place to go out, but
if I go out, I might be you know, the
target of a rabid Duck fan. So I'm going to
(01:13:09):
stay in. But but but the bottom line is this
is going to be a terrific game. Both these teams
have top ten offenses, Both these teams can run the ball,
and both these teams have quarterbacks that are rolling. As
I just said, Hot Dice, Fernando Mendoza has been brilliant
(01:13:32):
as the quarterback at Indiana and Dante more is doing
the same thing. So this is going to come down
to defense. Which defense, And when you start thinking about
Oregon and that home crowd, you got to lean the
ducks here just because it's going to be confusing for Indiana.
Speaker 7 (01:13:51):
In that environment.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
Rick new isil with us right here on Chuck and
Buck in the morning. We should ask you about you
dub Rutgers. What do you think happens in that one
Friday night.
Speaker 7 (01:14:02):
I think it's a good game.
Speaker 6 (01:14:04):
Athan calliac Manus, the quarterback for Rutgers, is really good.
They're throwing the ball more than they used to. They
used to have that running back Kyle Manong, guy who's
now in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (01:14:15):
They don't run it very much.
Speaker 6 (01:14:17):
Against Iowa, they scored, you know, a lot of points,
so that they can handle a good defense. But if
they try to throw it as much as they've tried
to throw it in the past. I like the Huskies
just because I think there's more balance with the Huskies attacked,
and I think the quarterback, as I've told you guys,
(01:14:38):
is really special.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
All right, Well, before we close with the Taco Time
Pick of the Week, I just want to ask. I mean,
it just feels like it's a year where all of
these quarterbacks were getting all the hype for the Heisman.
The only one that really was playing well that we're
getting Heisman consideration broke his hand in John Matteir. But
nuss Meyer's been a disappointment a little bit in LSU
(01:15:00):
Manning obviously, it's been a disappointment at Texas Club. Nick's
been a disappointment at Clemson. Cellars has been hurt, and
a little bit of a disappointment at South Carolina. Is
there a chance with Miami.
Speaker 7 (01:15:11):
Aler right now State and Drew Aller at Penn State.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
Yeah, add into the list as well. Is there a
chance with Miami pretty much being ranked number one in
the country. I mean, if they came out with a
poll right now for the playoff, they would be the number.
They've got the best schedule and they're undefeated and they
were led by their defense. Is there a chance that
this ruben Bain junior is going to win the Heisman?
Because that's something that we've been hearing in college football.
Speaker 6 (01:15:37):
Ruben Bain is the real deal, right, There's no question
there's another kid on that team is a door that
is a tough out when you're trying to block him
as well. Listen, Miami has benefited. They've had some big
showcase games playing Florida, playing Florida State early in the season.
(01:15:59):
Those are, you know, eyeball games that get everybody's attention.
I'm not sure I'm ready to anoint them as the
number one team in the land. I still think Ohio
State and the way that they're playing complimentary football. You know,
they're not a top twenty five offense right now, but they.
Speaker 7 (01:16:16):
Easily could be.
Speaker 6 (01:16:17):
They're just making sure they take it slow with their
young quarterback, and I think unfortunately some of these other
teams you talk about those quarterbacks, they've got no running
game to go with them, and if you don't have
a running game, it gets really difficult to play that position,
especially if your offensive line has to protect on third and.
Speaker 7 (01:16:38):
Long all day long.
Speaker 6 (01:16:39):
That becomes really hard. So it's not surprising to me
that this is what we're seeing. It's not surprising that.
Speaker 7 (01:16:46):
We're wrong because we make all these.
Speaker 6 (01:16:48):
Assumptions about what a football team will look like just
based on their name on their uniform, especially in today's
day and age, when so much is happening with a
roster between the end of a season and the beginning
of a new one. I mean, fifty percent of the
roster can change and no one blinks. So it we're
finding out who people are. But it's it's come up
(01:17:11):
in time in Texas and at Penn State, no question
about it.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
All right, Well, let's close with your Taco Tom pick
of the week. What do you got?
Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
I Am going to take miss Uri in an upset
over Alabama. They're a slight underdog at home. I think
this is what Eli Drink which has been pointing to,
and the boat Probula thing is going, well.
Speaker 7 (01:17:37):
He's a seventy six percent passer, the.
Speaker 6 (01:17:39):
Ability to run the ball, and I think it's just
gonna be a wonderful day in Como.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
All right, Well, do do your alma mater a real
big favor here, and even if your son takes the
car and stays out past curfew. Don't ground him.
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
They really need him right.
Speaker 7 (01:17:55):
Now, let's just hope. I'll just remind you of this.
My first game at.
Speaker 6 (01:18:04):
UCLA as a head coach, we beat Tennessee in overtime
and came from behind to do it.
Speaker 7 (01:18:10):
It was a wonderful victory.
Speaker 6 (01:18:11):
The next week we got beat fifty nine to nothing
by byu. John Wooden wrote me a note saying there
will be good times and they're bad. And I told
them media after I said, I didn't realize there are.
Speaker 7 (01:18:22):
Gonna be week one and week two. I just know
that things happen in this game and you just do
your best.
Speaker 6 (01:18:30):
And that's what I told the kid. Just do your
best and find a way to block Michigan State and
see how if you can get it to the next week.
Because this stuff is fleeting, but it's magical when you
get kids that believe.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
Well, it was great stuff. It was really great stuff.
So thank you, We appreciate it. We'll talk to you
again next week.
Speaker 7 (01:18:50):
Appreciate you guys. Take care all right.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
Rick new Aiel joining us right here on. I think
we'll know pretty much right there at game time because
you'll have problems will pink or blue bib on on
his uniform and wearing pacifier shoes.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Well, I'm just we're sure it's Josh Naylor senior, like
the one that has been playing for is not like
his offspring. He's that guy, small strike zone, but probably
can't hit yet.
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
Yeah, probably can't hit yet. It just says Naylor first base.
So I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
Okay, all right, Well, lucky lucky there, Josh has cracked
the lineup, and we're gonna hold a grudge against him
for leaving for.
Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
An all day Nope, nope, nope, no grudges, no grudges.
Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
All right. The old judge stops by next for a
Mariner's Detroit edition. Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
