Speaker 1 (00:13):
You guys gotta have drums for a big, big game,
always a big football game. Yeah, drums are a big
part of.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
It, all right, Chuck Bow, former Mariner, Bucky Jacobs, and
Anders Hurst with you here on this football Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
That is right. It is a football Friday, and it
wouldn't be football Friday without Mike holm'er just gonna join
us at nine thirty and our QB one joining us
now for x's and o's. It is the fantastic you
he Good morning, sir, Happy to great to be with you.
Happy New Year.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Man, it's twelve days of Christmas. It feels like with
all this good football going on, unbelievable. Wait yeah it yeah,
ped a couple duds yesterday, but man did it deliver
last night.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
So yeah, great game last night. What did you What
do you think of the college football Playoff to this point?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well, I'm just delighted that, you know, from the standpoint
of where we've advanced. We had we we used to
just vote, Now we're Then we had the two teams
in the BACS, then four teams in the College Football Playoff.
Now we have twelve, which I really think of ten
because you have to have an automatic two from the
Group of five in order to stay out of anti
trust court. So I love the direction it's going. I
(01:23):
will say this. I know the SEC is going to
take a lot of shots, and I want to just
point this out. So let's just compare the trust me.
I'm all down for barking about the conference. I mean
as a kid from from me age three to age
twenty eight. Those twenty five years, the PAC ten won
twenty out of twenty five Rose Bowls, again obviously against
(01:47):
the Big ten and and and only nine of those
were the UH with the PAC ten team favored. But
the SEC, the Big Ten is nine and four of
the SEC's four and eight. But that Big ten has
played four games against the Big Five. The SEC has
played one. They all of those were won by the
Big ten or the SEC against their own conference. The
(02:10):
Big ten hasn't played any SEC has played two games,
so two winners and two losses will throw those out.
So that leaves you with nine games for the Big Ten,
they're five and four. Because I'm throwing out the Group
of five and the SEC has seven games there they
are one and six. But if you go by what
(02:33):
we could term the ranking within the conference. For example,
Indiana one yesterday. They're the number one team in the
Big Ten. According to the CFP, Alabama was the number
five team in the SEC. So if we call that
a negative four for the SEC, got me by those
(02:53):
standards the Big Ten has in those nine games they
have combined their minus. The SEC has combined minus twenty
in seven games, so they average the SEC games have
averaged being in a lower seeding relative to the conference.
(03:13):
For example, let me just give one more example to
make this clear, Missouri played Virginia. Virginia is the number
three team in the ACC. Missouri is the number eight
team in the SEC. Missouri lost seventeen to three, but
they had a minus five conference So again, SEC minus twenty,
Big Ten minus seven. That's point eight average per game,
(03:35):
whereas the SEC has a minus two point nine, almost
almost three per and then the other conferences, the Big
twelve has a plus five. Again, SEC minus twenty, ACC
has a plus fifteen. So at any rate, I think
that's worth noting. The SEC last year had fifteen first
(03:56):
round draft picks, all time record for any conference, and
the starters in the NFL the SEC has forty six
percent more than the next closest conference was the Big Ten,
and the SEC has two fewer teams, So at any event,
that's just a thought. SEC is gonna take some shots.
(04:16):
When I watch the tape for the draft, I still say,
top to bill, I think that the Big Ten right
now has got the best teams in the top two
or three. But if you go all sixteen teams and
you went nine plays number nine and eleven plays number
eleven and seven plays number seven, I believe the SEC
would be winning a tournament against any conference.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, you're probably right, but I just I just really
do revel in the fact that all of those Hillbillies
think that they're gonna win. They can all do that,
we can all revel. Yet all those Hillbillies think they're
gonna win one thousand to three every time they face
somebody outside of conference, and it's just not true. All right, Well,
let's talk about Saturday Night's a big game, Yes, Seahawks
(04:58):
taking on the Sam Francisco forty nine ers. So where
does the breakdown begin? For Hugh Millen? What stands out
to you as a real pivotal aspect to score a
victory Saturday?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, I think brock Purty is red hot. He's over
the last three games, he's at one hundred and thirty
one point five passer rating with eleven touchdowns. Next closest
guy is eight. Sam Darnold in that period has three
He's averaged two hundred and ninety eight yards per game.
In that he's number one in yards per temp, number
one pass rating, you know, and to put in a context,
(05:32):
he's number two in completion percentage of seventy four point two.
The only guy ahead of him is Tyler Hunley. The
difference between Tyler Hunley and Purty. Tyler Hunley is five
point three yards per tempt, which is at the bottom,
and Brock Purty is nine point two, Like substantial difference.
So you got a not red hot, white hot quarterback
and you know he he pushing the ball down the field,
(05:56):
has just been studying this tape and you think of
him as a lollipop, you know, just kind of high
school level physical traits. But somehow he pushes the ball
down him and they did a bit a boot left.
He goes all the way back to the right hash
stops and he throws a far sideline comeback at twenty
(06:17):
two air yards Like that's those are the type of
plays that Mike Shanahan used to have in for John Elway.
Now the ball doesn't get there like John Elway. But schematically,
don't think of this guy. This guy is a you know,
he's coming after your throat. So I think that's that's
probably the thing that gets my tens in the most.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Yeah, well, he obviously is hot right now, and yet
he's been back for what a month and a half,
and so he's not the only thing that this team
brings to the table. I mean, they've found themselves knocking
on the doorstep of that number one seed after he
was gone for a lot of it, in large part
because another guy that did stay healthy was Christian McCaffrey.
So you when you think of this guy, he's also
(06:58):
hot right now. One hundred, like almost two hundred yards
in his last week against Chicago. He's kind of hot.
Is this one of those guys you're not going to
stop him. You just hope to contain him. And if so,
how do you do that?
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, I hope to stop him. I you know, he's
gonna get his yards. To your point, I don't want
to disagree. I think that is true, but you know,
they they run the stretch play, that wide stretch play,
and all of their play action it works off of that.
So you've got to you've got to defend the width
of the field and in your spacing, like you if
(07:31):
you can't just run to Christ McCaffrey because he's running
a stretch left, because brock Purty's going to come out
on the boot to his right, or he's going to
boot and then stop and throw back to his left.
Like I said, all the screens they do off of that,
so they really make you defend the width of the field.
I do like from a defensive standpoint, it sounds odd
(07:52):
that they're on the road. They're going to communicate better,
you know, you know they've been a substantially better defense
on the road. I mean, it's very obviously paradoxical, but
it's it's reality, and so I like that. The Seattle
is here's some things that you love about it. From
Seattle to standpoint, the defense of Seattle compared to the
(08:12):
forty nine er defense got met total defensive total EPA.
That's expected points at it Google, if you want to
know about it. I've run the correlation numbers. It's very
high in correlations. It's legit Seattle number one in the
NFL San Francisco twenty six. Third down defense Seattle number
one in EPA. It's San Francisco twenty one. But to
(08:37):
your question, opponent rushing yards per attempt, Seattle's defense number
one in the NFL, San Francisco just fifteen. And then
when you flip around and say, okay, that's the rushing
how about how you doing on the past. Seattle's defense
opponent netyards rushing per attempt number one in the NFL,
San Francisco just twenty one. So Seattle stops the run.
(09:00):
That's been the best, most consistent thing they've done all
year of five phases of football. I think their defensive
run stopping has been the best and most consistent you
could throw in special teams. Seattle's number one in special
teams EPA. They don't have a big advantage in that
regard because the forty nine ers are three. But yeah,
you love how Seattle has been able to stop the run.
(09:22):
They need to do it tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Hu melanis with us x's and o's in preparation for
Seahawks forty nine ers tomorrow night. For all the marbles
here X's and O's brought to you by Frostbrewed Corps.
A light choose chill. Let's look it to the other
side and talk about the offense, because I mean, look,
forty nine Ers offense is running red hot. Seahawks defense
(09:45):
is running red hot. If there's a question mark lately
for these two teams, forty nine Ers defense versus the
Seahawks offense, which isn't playing as effectively as it was
earlier in the year. So that matchup, how do you
expect that to go on Saturday night?
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Well, you like, from a Seattle perspective, the idea that
Fred Warner's not playing. That guy's a sure far Hall
of Fame mid linebacker. And then of course Nick Bosa
isn't there to wreck the game like he did in
Game one at the end of that game. And so
the forty nine Ers percent of sacks, they are thirty second,
(10:25):
they're dead last. Hurries, they're only twenty fourth, where Seattle's
defensive second in that regard. Now, what are they doing
schematically percent of plays with five plus rushers? This is
important because this is hurt Seattle. And let's see if
Robert Slim makes an adjustment. But the forty nine ers
(10:47):
are only twenty fourth in the league and five or more.
Is that just call that a blitz? Right? But here's
a cool thing that really plays in Seattle's face. I'm
gonna read word for word right out of the NFL
stat port role ready quote percent of plays with a
five plus man rush that result in negative EPA for
(11:08):
the offense end quote?
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Is that that confuser going to help you?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Basically, that's just saying, when you do blitz, are you
creating some kind of havoc Seattle's defense. I know you
asked me about Seal's offense. Seattle's defense in that regard
is number one in the NFL, but the forty nine
ers are just twenty eighth. That's a big difference, obviously, right,
So not only do the forteen so you could say
(11:33):
this about Seattle's defense, they don't blitz a lot. They're
only twenty fifth, but when they do, they're they're they're wreckers,
They're they're number one. Forty nine ers also don't blitz
a lot. They're twenty fourth, twenty fifth, twenty fourth Seattle,
San Francisco, but they're twenty eighth in terms of the
damage that they're inflicting as we're represented by that statistic.
(11:56):
So I like that for seat that's been a bit
big part of their problem offensively is just kind of
how their offensive line has handled the different pressures. You know,
you saw Minnesota. I mean they just ground him to
a halt. Certainly, Solo will watch that Viking tape and
perhaps try and duplicate it, but that hasn't been what
(12:16):
they do, and teams, as a general rule don't try
and remake themselves.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
In Week eighteen, we had Greg on it this morning
at seven and he was kind of pointing towards number
three that Nicki mcmoy might be a key factor in
this rematch. He got hurt, I think in the fourth
or fifth play of the first game, and so how
important could he be? And what have you seen out
of him lately that you think might be just what
(12:41):
the doctor ordered for this rematch.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Well, one of the.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Things in studying this that I've always thought about Brock
Purdy's game is that his most effective play when I
close my eyes and I say, okay, what's the most
effective thing they do? If I was a forty nine
er fan, what would I think is really cool? Well,
I would love how brock Purdy, whether it's playofs or
not drop back his intermediate inbreaking routes, he's throwing in
(13:07):
between the numbers. On inbreaking routes, he probably throws it
as hard as he can, but it's got an arc
to it and it goes over the shallow layer and
in front of the deep layer, and he has he
has grade a elite level anticipation, so he just you know,
he just arcs these ball right into the deep middle.
This year he has not been good and he I
(13:29):
think his passer ratings under sixty five in that. But
he's doing a lot more on out routes I think
is uh his out routes I don't have in front
of me. But the outbreaking routes have been something that
has been far better for him. That's not normal brock Purty.
But when you're going to the out route, okay, now
you have to rally in space and nick emm and worry.
(13:50):
His ability to accelerate in the flat to cover ground
from the numbers to the sideline is as good as
anybody's now. He only played in four plays against the
forty nine ers in Week one. Of those they played
man and man one time, who was nick him and
Worry align against Christian McCaffrey right over the top. McCaffrey
(14:13):
loves to run those option routes. He's as good as
there is. You know, even going back, you know, you'd
have to go back to probably Marshall fault before you
find a better running back running option routes than Christian McCaffrey.
Seattle in just you know, the top week one, first
five plays of the season, they were willing to expose
themselves to that.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Option route.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
So yeah, I think Aman Worry's got a playmaking ability,
played makers and mentality and he tackles well. I expect
them to be beg a big part of the win
if there's going to be one.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Hugh Mellan is w that's righty or on chucking back
x's and oh's before Seahawks forty nine ers tomorrow night
at five o'clock. All right, So you get to chat
and this saysn't a loaded statement with people that really
actually like Sam Donald here this morning? Yeah, and so
I would say, what do you want to see? I
(15:08):
mean here it is there's the big moment, all the
discussion about Sam Donald, give me, give me a couple
of things that will assure that Sam Donald has a
big game and comes through for the Seahawks in the
big moment.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Well, look, I have some concerns because you know, it's passerwading.
The first nine weeks was one hundred and fourteen. In
the last seven it's been eighty four. It's it's been
a thirty point drop. Yeah, we've all seen it. There's
been struggled. So I don't I don't think that it's
just gonna you know, all of a sudden just emerge.
Where I've been with Sam Donald is I just think
(15:42):
about it from a John Snyder and Mike McDonald perspective,
and I would think this, if you had one hundred
guys in a bar and you said, okay, we're gonna
line up, you know, in a row from you know,
most bullish about Sam Donald, to least even the least,
the dead last, the DFL guy in the in the bar,
(16:03):
would at least be able to have a grown man
conversation about Sam Donald and keep it respectful. For the
following reason, Sam Donald and the Seahawks, they just they've
they've already set a record for franchise with wins, and
you know, with the seventeenth. They might get another one.
They've already set the all time franchise record for points.
(16:24):
They're number two in the league. Sam Donald was voted
to the Pro Bowl number two quarterback in the NFC,
behind only Matthew Stafford, who's front runner for the MVP.
And by the way, the fans vote, which is one third,
Donald was not in the top ten. That means the
players in the coaches vote had to be resoundingly at
least number two. Because he's the number two in the NFC,
(16:45):
his contract is only is eighteenth out of all quarterbacks,
which allows him to do things like get Josh Jones
for four million instead of George Fant for one point
two million. And Josh Jones right now? Is this you know?
You just want to games, including against the Rams with
a backup left tackle who we can't even remember having
a bad play in these games. So so I would
(17:07):
I would think. And oh, by the way, that the
uh Sam Donald is number one in deep passer rating,
number number one in yards per drop back, number one
in percent of plays that are ten or more yards,
number one in net yards per sorry, number two in
net yards per tamp had been number one almost the
entire season. So those facts alone should at the very least,
(17:30):
we should be giving Sam Donald respect. We're not gonna
clown him like Vin Baker. We're not gonna clown him
like Jamal Adams and some of the other we can get,
you know, right like that, that would be my thought.
I like, I would just say, yes, there are legitimate
questions about what has happened over the last six weeks,
but there's just been too much on the good side.
(17:51):
In any event, I would say, I love that Rasid
shahit Is is healthy. I think that that's an important part.
Because you go back to last week Carolina. One of
the things I didn't like about Clint Kubiak's play calling
is that he should have they should have recognized that
the Carolina corners were squatting on them. You got you
(18:13):
gotta call those go routes, you got to call those
double moves and and hit some big plays and and
and they were playing a lot of what's called cover six.
They roll to a two deep on one side, but
then you got free access to the receivers on the other.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
We've already hit JSN on a number of posts Pittsburgh
and Jacksonville against that coverage. Uh, you know, crank one up.
Let's hit one of those tomorrow night. So so I think,
you know, I'm I'm like all gas, no brakes, keep
pushing it down. And the final thought on that Pat Mahomes.
You go to Pro Football Focus, which is subscribed to
(18:49):
by all thirty two teams in the NFL. They have
a statistic called turnover worthy plays, which actually it kind
of weeds out the luck. So Sam Donold right now
he has nineteen turnover worthy place and but the I'm
trying to find the list of the guys that are.
(19:10):
I know that Bo Nicks has more, Trevor Lawrence has more,
Pat Mahomes has more. And in Pat Mahomes' career, if
you factor for the seventeen games because and I'm including
twenty eighteen and they you know, in the year he
had the MVP. Pat Mahomes, if you calculated over seventeen averages,
(19:33):
twenty point nine got me twenty point nine turnover worthy
plays per season. He's had five seasons where he's been
over twenty. Sam Donald's sitting at nineteen, you know, you know,
give him another one, because that's the pace he's on.
He would have twenty, we'll call it twenty point two
and UH, and Sam Donald is twenty point nine for
(19:55):
god darn it. Pat Mahomes is twenty point nine for
his entire career. And Sam Donald, if we give him
another one for Saturday, because that's the rate he's been on,
he's he's he'd be, you know, at twenty. So there
are there are coaches that look at guys and say,
if you're making the big plays, we can live with
(20:17):
the turnover worthy plays. And it's not that we like him, right,
but we're not going to try and neoter him out
of you because we don't want the unwanted consequences. Did
I I don't want to list the number of stats
that that are donald is number one or number two.
I don't want to relist it. But those are all
suggestive of big plays and and Sam Donald's fourth and
(20:40):
in the UH in terms of BTT big time throws
by p F f F you know, eighth and turnover
worthy plays. So I don't know, I think there's enough
enough of these facts that lean towards Sam Donald that
you know, I I don't get any type of venomous
(21:02):
criticism to him whatsoever. Don't understand it.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm glad he's our quarterback.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
No Saturday, I thought you knew something about football. I mean,
this guy, he's just trash and we got to move
on from.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Him because because because NFL starting quarterbacks, they're just rolling
through the street like Steves brus right, like they just.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Oh you know there's another Tumbleweek's mill road time in
the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Yeah, Philip Rivers, I think is available right now, so
we can do that. Uh so, uh big doings at
the Melons then tomorrow night, I mean.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
What we what are we doing? Kids in adult kids
home from the East Coast. Got a bunch of friends in. Yeah,
we're gonna have a party and look, I'm concerned. I
I don't want to color myself is just like optimistic
about this. I have a lot of concerns. You know.
I think Kyle Shanahan, I think he's a this This
(22:03):
is such great theater. When you talk about Kyle Shanninghan
against Mike McDonald, it is is just like devout, like
I'm gonna I'm gonna kill one box of popcorn on
every series. That's how good this is. And uh, I'm
to devour it. You know it's just the best, so
(22:24):
at an event.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
All right, well, enjoy, we'll break it down Monday.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah, rock and roll.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
All right here mellon x'es and o's brought to you

All right, here we are in a football Friday.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
That's right, Football Friday sponsored by our friends. You don't
Pitos and Made Vodka. They're not really my friends.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
I guess they're never helped me move. Well, you can
be friends with people and they don't help you move.
They never helped me through a hard time. You know
that's not that's you're right, they have helped me through it.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Friends. That's a friend.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Football Friday sponsored by our friends, Tito's Hands, Maade Vodka.
It's Chuck Buck and Andrews. So with you and joining
us now on the radio program is the legendary Mike Holmgrid.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
Happy New Year to you, sir, Hey, Happy new year, guys.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Good to hear your voices.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Great to hear you as well. How did you survive
sun Katia with a thousand of your closest relatives.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
Well, actually, I'm still here. Oh I'm still here. Yeah,
there's a lot of snow. Okay, and every time I
walk out, my grandchildren feel the need to pelp me
with a snowball. I don't know what that's all about,
but no, it's where we've had a blast. We're coming
home tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
You've introduced in them to what a whitewash is, coach,
Will you throw them down and snow in their face?
Speaker 6 (24:31):
No? No, I know you know what, get them Kathy
would yell at me so much, really, but they're they're
throwing it at me. Oh No, you're the year, You're
the adult. I'm not so sure.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Yeah, I think you're being way too grown up about this.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
You are the coach of some of the greatest quarterbacks
of all time. You could assemble a Hall of Fame
legendary great snowball throwing team, and you just you attack
your grandkids with Steve Young and Joe Mont and Brett Fahr.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
That's what you do, you know what, that's a great idea.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Yeah, boy, Hasselback would be great at this. He's got
a look.
Speaker 6 (25:15):
Yeah, but yeah he would be you know what, he'd
be on my team. Then I turned my back and
he nailed me. He would just throw on right at me.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
All right. So, huge game tomorrow night. It doesn't get
any bigger than this in terms of a regular season game.
So what does it come down to for you? How
did the Seahawks emerge victorious tomorrow night in Santa Clara.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
Well, I'll make it really simple, because I think both
teams are excellent. The forty nine ers offense is really rolling.
The Seahawks defense has played very well all year. I
think it's going to come down to what it usually
comes down, turnovers, And because I think it's going to
be a close game. You know, it's a great rivalry.
(25:59):
Uh Mike McDonald, he's been really good on the road
and so that I think you take away that advantage
for San Francisco. But I think it's going to come
down to turnovers. You know, Sam Master protect the ball.
I hope we see a lot of play action, pass
and movement in their in their play selection. But no,
(26:19):
it's going to be a great game. I think it's
going to be really close. The last time I said
it's going to be really close and low scoring was
the Seahawks versus the Rams, and it was thirty eight
thirty seven or something. So I will I will steer
clear of predicting the scoring output. But this is what
you play for. I mean this for the fans in
(26:40):
both cities. This is great coach.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
I mean on the turnover front, I mean, we've got
some folks that just get you know, get hung up
on it to some degree. So I'll ask you, because
it was a point that Hugh made about there's a
risk of you if you kind of clip the wings
of your quarterback because you fearful of him making you know,
bad throws or you know, creating some turnovers, then you
(27:07):
take away maybe some of your ceilings, some of the
big play, the explosive plays.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Stuff like that. So how do you manage that?
Speaker 6 (27:14):
You?
Speaker 4 (27:14):
I mean, you're a perfect guy to ask with, having
done it with Brett Fahr for example. It's a gunslinger,
and yet you're like, hey, we got to calm that down.
But I only want you to calm it down to
the degree that is necessary and nothing more.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Yeah, I think Hugh has a good point because I
don't think you want to just hamstering your quarterback, you know.
But there are situations that you have talked about and
will continue to talk about, and we'll always talk about
with him. About this now right here, you have to
be careful, hold onto the ball, don't do this, don't
(27:48):
do this, don't do this, and then if he's listening,
and then he'll make adjustments and get better, I think,
and not turn the ball over so much. And I
know they've had those covered stations, you know with Sam,
But I listen, and you know we've talked about before.
I'm in his corner and I'm not going to hamstring
(28:08):
him because in the second half in drives, we've seen
it all season long. He has come through for the
most part, you know, and try made big throws, you know,
one games for them at tight games at the end
because of his play and things like that. So you
don't want to hamstring him. The only time that I
the example and I've told you guys before with Joe
(28:30):
Montana with the forty nine ers. Here you have the
greatest quarterback, one of the greatest that ever played. And
I evaluated after one season that he if he was
he didn't throw a lot of interceptions, but the interceptions
came on this one particular play and it was a
favorite of his, and it was a favorite of the
Bill Losses offense. And this is after Bill had left.
(28:51):
And so without getting fired, I said, okay, we're taking
this play out of the offense. And Joe didn't like
it very He goes, well, why I like it because
of this, And so we did that and it helped
a little bit, it really did. So you can't hamstring them,
(29:12):
but you can change some things.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Mike Homrid is with us here on this football Friday
as we get ready for Seahawks forty nine ers, and
so I would just ask you, in terms of the
scope of how big this game is in your experience,
did you constantly remind your guys during the course of
the week of how big the game is to try
to get them to rise to the moment or did
(29:38):
you try the other way, like try to treat it
just like a normal football game so that they weren't
too overhyped by the time that kickoff or a ride.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
You know, there's a happy meeting there. I think the
players know, but to have to remind them, I think
is important. I mean, you just don't pound it every day,
but your mind them, Okay, this game, you know what
it means, and you know what we have to do,
and you know how however you decide to do that.
Then on game day, then you give your final speech
(30:10):
and then that's it. Then all speeches are over. But no,
they have to know and they know they already know,
but you impress upon that. But they also know and
the players are the players are smart. You know. This
is the beginning. This is the beginning at the journey
to the football, to the to the super Bowl, you know,
because you're gonna have playoffs and all sorts of stuff.
(30:32):
But to get the first round by and to win
the division, that's huge. But it's just the start.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
I don't think that this is whoever loses is you know,
their chances are shot by any stretchs they're both going
to get to go into the dance. But I I
do you know, we talk about playing, you know, getting
right at the right time, playing hot down the stretch
going into the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
I mean, how much of that still weighs into it.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
You don't necessarily want to go in on a losing
streak after a highly emotional game that cost you the
number one seed and a bye and all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
No, there's going to be a lot of emotions a buck,
You're right, and if you lose the game, you're going
to feel bad. You are going to feel bad. But
if it's a close ballgame and it's tight, and all
of a sudden a field goal beats you or something
beat you one play, then you can go in saying, okay,
that one play that was we can fix that. But
if all of a sudden, the games, like I watched
(31:28):
some of the college games yesterday, you lose thirty eight
to three, that can't happen. You know that can't happen now,
all of a sudden, that settles with you, and it
probably hurts you in the playoffs. But no, there's an
effect there, there's an emotional effect. But if it's a
close ball game one, you feel that, but you can't
(31:49):
bounce from that.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
All right, I asked you this question. I'll ask you, so,
how are you watching the game and it sounds like
you're leaving son, Katie one day too early here. I
think maybe you ought to keep that a little palace
you got out there in theater and popcorn machine and
everything else, and just soak it all.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
In, you know what. I'm glad you said that, because
the popcorn. They have a popcorn machine in there. It's unbelievable,
and you got this. It's just unbelievable. And I had
a lot of popcorn. But no, we're leaving, okay, And
tomorrow is supposed to be there's supposed to be a
little snow in the mountains. So if if we get
(32:27):
stuck in a little hut at the top of the
mountain tomorrow, and I'll have to phone you guys to
come up there and get me, Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Okay, all right, Bucky, we'll get that done for you,
and if you miss the game, we'll re enact it
for you. Play I play.
Speaker 5 (32:41):
I got that.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Yeah, all right, coach, Well be safe and keep dodging
those snowballs and we'll talk to you all Monday.
Speaker 6 (32:51):
All right. It's great, Thank you.

(33:43):
little segment of the weekend. We get you ready for
the weekend. Here football Friday coming to a close. So

Speaker 5 (34:04):
What eight hundred do you wye away?
Speaker 1 (34:07):
So I guess we have to be more responsible with
our business news.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
Huh yeah, Well hopefully it's not like I'm not Alcoholiday
news news.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
See I don't know.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
I'm it's not going to be so it's not what
she writes and says is up to her. I'm not
going ultra responsible in our final segment on Fridays very good.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Let you know that, all right, one last thing. We'll
just do one last thing. What do you got buck?
Speaker 4 (34:42):
So you know, I have my issues with some people
around here that prematurely celebrate uh holidays and yeah, right,
I mean some people chuck that do that. You know
who I'm talking about. And yet I will say this.
(35:03):
I came home was it Tuesday?
Speaker 5 (35:07):
I think after.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Work, and Kate had the Valentine's Day cards out already.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
No, no, but she did have the Christmas tree taken out.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Oh wow.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:17):
I was like, whoa what, Yeah, I think it was
that day because he's like New Year, it's time to
And it just kind of shook me for a second,
right because I'm one that I loved.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
Our Christmas tree is nice Christmas tree. It was very
well decorated. The kids did a good job this year,
and I was just was kind of shocked by it.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Like so the you know, I'm still going to get
on you if you start celebrating whatever draft or something,
you know, before we get to Valentine's Day or Saint
Patrick's Day or Easter or something. But at the same time,
I'm I'm with on the let the holiday linger a
little bit. Oh, I think this is just one where
she's like, well, no, it's like New Year's now New
(35:57):
Year's Eve, it's.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Still bringing you joy if it's still savoring extra joy.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Yeah, we didn't discuss it, just it just was gone.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
And then I was like, whoa, hey, what happened to
the tree?
Speaker 4 (36:08):
She took it all down and put all the decorations
away and wanted to clean up the pine needles and
all this stuff. And so I get it. I'm not
like upset, but it shook me for a second there.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
She might have been all joyed out, had my full full,
you know, belly full of America. It's possible, time to
just get back to being normal.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
Yeah, you know, maybe that's maybe that's what it was.
She so full of joy she didn't eat anymore.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Yeah, she was full all right? Andrew what you got
for one last thing really quick?
Speaker 9 (36:37):
I know those who are just starving for some stove contents.
I apologize that we didn't come up with an episode
this week, but Chuck and I will be back on
it next week. Get you guys something early and react
to the baseball's off season news.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Were back on it, dog on it. Yeah, Blackers. That
really hasn't been anything not Mariners Mariners related. And even
the stove is gone cold for the holidays. It really
has so, but it has to heat back up. I mean,
we're not that far away from pitchers and catchers, like
six weeks. Yep.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
Uh yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
I actually got a text from my friend Gina. She
said the other day she goes, hey, happy baseball. So
Solstice Day it was the exact middle between the final
pitch of the World Series and the first pitch of
spring dream.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Yeah, oh nice. Yeah, with that, they got one more
big move in. They got one more big coming between
now and in spring training.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
I'm ready. By the way, gess you guys are still
officially retired.
