Speaker 1 (00:01):
Portland Troilblazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard
Terry Rozier have both been arrested this morning. Billups at
around six am in Portland, Oregon in Roseer around six am.
I'm told in Orlando where the Heat we're playing last night,
Rosier has been arrested for his involvement in alleged sports
gambling prop bets and Billups. ABC News is reporting is
(00:26):
tied to an illegal poker operation tied to the mafia.
And so you know, the FBI has been investigating this
situation for several months, in Rosier's case at least two years,
and today is making arrests. There is a press conference
that is set by the FBI. This is really seismic
news in the NBA for a sitting NBA head coach
(00:48):
in Chauncey Billups to be an arrested, taken into custody
for alleged illegal gambling as well as Terror Rozier for
sports betting alleged two arrests made this morning. There are
expected to be numerous arrests also tied to both of
these situations.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Wow wow, wow, breaking news this morning before we even
got on the airwaves. That's Sham Sharanya breaking the story
and also ABC News about Chauncey Phillips. Terry Rogier arrested
this morning as part of investigations related to illegal gambling.
Some other names expected to be revealed the later. Other
arrest to be made and probably within the NBA family.
(01:31):
So something to monitor and certainly something to discuss all
day long here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KHRFM.
But there's a lot of other things to discuss as well.
Chuck and Ashley with you. Bucky is out today. We
will have a twelve man roundtable a little bit later
on in the show, and Softie's going to join us
here in a matter of seconds. But let's first rip
(01:51):
through your headlines, brought to you by Frostbrewed Corps Light
Choose Chill. Speaking of the NBA Victor, wimbin Yama dominated
last night against Cooper Flagg forty points, fifteen rebounds, three
block shots, no turnovers for the seven foot fill in
the blank alien from not of Earth, as he was
(02:11):
sensational last night and has everybody in the league wondering
how we are going to defend against the new and
improved victor winmbin Yama NHL. The Kraken have run into
some trouble. They lost to back to back road games
and they're still on the road. They'll be in Winnipeg tonight.
The puck will drop at five o'clock against the Jets.
(02:32):
The Sounders play Monday, their first playoff match of the postseason.
They'll take on Minnesota United at six o'clock.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
It's Thursday Night football.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
The Vikings will be in La taking on the Chargers.
Speaking of the National Football League, Lamar Jackson practiced yesterday.
He might be in for this week's Baltimore game. Meanwhile,
Jaden Daniels is certainly out for the Washington Commanders. The
Seahawks are on buy Something. We'll discuss with our roundtable
guys that eight o'clock, and the Huskies are in action
(03:02):
against Illinois this Saturday, kickoff at twelve thirty. Of course,
David Softy Mama joins us every Thursday to talk some
Huskies football, and lately he's had the.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Mariners on the brain.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And my guess is that he's but to talk about
his pent up thoughts because you haven't even really had
airtime this week until you get it off your chest.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Well, first of all, I just want to talk about
which kJ our host is the most likely if any
of us would ever be arrested for our involvement in
an illegal poker ring.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
I don't know, Mark James, which one would it be?
I don't know. Let me think about that, Mark James.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
That's probably the guy after you. Yeah right, that's what
I thought about. I won't say his name, but it
rhymes with March. I mean, it's so easy, Like why
am I even bothering asking the question?
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Right?
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Like?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Uh, whoa? How about that for a story though? My goodness?
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yeah, well, you know, I don't know, man. I just
kind of feel like people will come out and say,
what's a big deal, it's just a little polker. Well,
I don't know, man, it feels like it goes a
lot deeper than that. But whatever the rules say. If
you're a head coach in the NBA, if you're an
NBA player, if you're a college basketball player, and you
know the NCAA just announced was it yesterday or this
(04:20):
morning or whatever, that players are now allowed to bet
on pro sports college athletes are as. You know that
I did not know that they just changed that rule.
And now two days later, Jauncey Billups and Terry Rogier
are getting busted. So that's great. You know, whatever the
rules say you can do, you can do. If they
say you can't do something, then stop bitching about it
(04:41):
and stop doing it, or get the hell out of
that league, for God's sake. So I don't know, man,
what a wild story, but a nice temporary distraction from
the sadness that is still set in and it's still
very much prevalent after Monday night. You know, God, I
feel like was it old school? And Will Ferrell got
shot in the neck with a tranquilizer dart, Yeah, and
(05:03):
fell into the pool.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
His life is just falling apart. He's getting divorced, He's
a miserable bastard, the direkness mail old friend, he's just
playing in the background. That's the way I felt since
Monday night. Man.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, I haven't chatted with you, but you do seem
more just sad than angry.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
That's exactly it. And and that's the way I felt
since since Monday night, that this is something that we've
been dreaming about for fifty years in this town.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Man.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
You know, the Mariners became a thing when I was
four years old, and ever since then, I've been waiting
and hoping and dreaming about a world series and was
able to accomplish. As a fan, I guess pretty much
everything else there is to do in a lot of ways, right,
you know, with the Sonics and the Huskies and the Seahawks,
and this is the one thing that we haven't crossed
(05:54):
off the list. And it's the one thing that you know,
growing up, you're kind of told indirectly by the actions
of a franchise that this isn't for you. You know,
this is for the Cardinals, or this is for the Yankees,
or this is for the Red Sox or the Mets
or somebody else, and it's not for you. And all
of a sudden, you're fifty two years old and you're
eight outs away. And I don't know about you, Chuck
(06:16):
and Ashley, but eight outs away I started to foolishly
allow myself to kind of start to think that maybe
this is actually happening. And then it all fell apart
and it's just an absolute crusher beyond crusher, you know.
I mean, look, I may change my mind and six
months or a year, five years from now, but compare
this to to Kembe, Compare this to Malcolm Butler all
(06:38):
those other you know, just completely heartbreaking moments that we've had.
It's number one for me right now, number one on
my list.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
If there is something that you're angry about from the
way it ended, what is it?
Speaker 4 (06:54):
You know? I gotta be honest with you, Chuck. I
really am having a hard time conjuring up the anger kind.
I guess if there was anything, it would be. You know,
why couldn't Dan Wilson just have done what everybody wanted
him to do in that game and keep Kirby in there,
go to Brian Wu and then go to Andress Munno's yeah,
(07:16):
and just finish it out. But I'm just so there's
just so much sadness, right, there's just so much heartbreak
over all of that that I haven't even gotten to
that stage yet. I mean, you tell me, right, you're
the psychiatrist here, you tell me. Is it is it
grief before anger? Is it anger before grief? I don't know,
Maybe I'm doing this backwards man.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Uh yeah, well uh number one. As your psychiatrist, I
don't think there's any helping you.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah, yeah, so say.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
That miserable the rest of my life, and I should
accept that.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, No, I just I figured.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I mean, I know, I know that you didn't exactly
like the decision by Dan Wilson. I think he struggled
with decisions throughout the course of the year.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I think he's very strong in other.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Areas, and those other areas are very important, like you know,
getting the most out of your players and having a
great clubhouse and you know. And I think he had
a good game plan coming into the game, Kirby Woo
to Munos, I think was the game plan. But it
really is hard for me to believe that either he
(08:25):
or somebody else in that dugout didn't see that.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Hey, do you know we might have to.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Face Springer and Guerrero only one more time before this
game comes to a close, and let's make sure we
have either our best starter on the mound, which they
already had, or our best reliever up and ready to
face them when the time comes. And for that not
to even be a thought to look out to the
bullpen and there's one dude out there and it's Bizardo.
(08:53):
To me, that was you had a great game plan,
but you did not You did not react well to
how the game was unfolding.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Yeah. Well, and look, I mean we can also argue
that it never should have gotten into Game seven in
the first place, you know, and you know, what have
we been saying for years about this rotation? Just get
in and you know, watch these guys just work their magic.
And I was I don't know about you, but I
was pretty much woefully you know, unimpressed by the rotation
(09:23):
in the postseason. Yeah, thought they'd be a lot more
dominant than they were. Maybe that's unfair, but you know,
I'm looking at what the Dodgers are doing with what
they got going on right now, and I mean that's dominance.
That is absolute, unbelievable, elite dominance and maybe one of
the best postseason rotations we've ever seen, to be honest
with you, in LA and I made foolishly, I guess,
(09:46):
thought that we had something like that, and we don't
either a because the baseball team doesn't allow it to,
you know, develop into that in the postseason. When you're
yanking guys out after four innings or three and two
thirds and one sign of trouble, you're jumping off the ship.
I get it, you know, but that to me is
one of my biggest kind of disappointments. I thought these
(10:08):
were guys that we could count on to be elite
and they were not.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, and you had the chance to set the rotation.
You had a week off to make sure that you
had exactly who you wanted to pitch in the exact
situation that you wanted them to pitch in. And you're right.
You know, you think back to Games four and six
and how poorly the team played. So you're right, we
can't just boil it down to one decision that had
(10:32):
some merit to it, because Bizardo was excellent all season
long with inherited runners on base.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
We can't boil it down to that one decision.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
There were opportunities earlier in the series to put the
Blue Jays away.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
You know what, I'm glad you said that because and
that's why I just look, I would not have done
it the way Dan did it. I would have done
it the way you're talking about doing it. But to
just if we're being fair, to just dismiss the idea
of going to Bizardo hand and just saying this is
the most ridiculous, idiotic thing. I don't think that's fair Yeah,
(11:05):
I think that there are reasons that make a lot
of sense why Dan Wilson would have gone to Bizardo there, including,
as you said, his strand rate during the year. And
we talked about this on Tuesday Morning show that if
he gets the job done there, which nobody would have
been surprised, right if Bizardo got the job done, and
that seventh inning, we're sitting there probably on Tuesday morning,
(11:27):
and you're on the postgame show on Monday night saying
where would this team be without Bizarreda and the job
he's done. You know, this guy was the mop early
in the year. We used to call him the mop
because he would come in when the games are out
of hand and he was just part of the cleanup crew.
And now he was a vital part of your bullpen.
So I think there is merit behind Dan Wilson and
what he did. But, like I said, Chuck, just to
(11:49):
kind of go back to the beginning, the anger stage
has I haven't even touched the tip of the anger
stage yet, dude, because I'm just so freaking bummed out
about what happened on Monday.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Understandable, no question about it.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Softy's with us Thursdays with Softy right here on chug
A Buck in the Morning Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJRFM. Well, our remaining time, have you been able
to put any of your thoughts toward Illinois?
Speaker 4 (12:15):
This SATs Yes, this unbelievable legendary long time rivalry between
UDUB and Illinois that goes back about a year and
a half. Actually we had them in the Rose Bowl
about forty years ago. So for longtime Husky fans, I
guess you kind of remember moments like that. But I mean, look, dude,
they got they got five games left to go where
(12:35):
they can really decide if they want to be a
nine win team or maybe you know, a six or
a seven win team. Ucla perdue Wisconsin. I'm sorry, I
think those are all games that Washington should win. I
know UCLA is playing better as of late, but those
are three games. I think Udub's gonna have better talent,
they've got better coaching, and they should win those games.
(12:56):
I don't know if you've been kind of tracking what's
happening at Wisconsin, but they want Luke Fickles head on
a stick. Yeah out there right now. It's unbelievable how
much crap he's taken from his fan base, and I'm
kind of bummed out because we're gonna actually go out
there in a couple of weeks, and I was looking
forward to seeing what that atmosphere, you know, it feels
like it looks like, and I'm kind of thinking it
won't even be you know, a shell of what it
(13:17):
normally is out there. So that's eight wins and then
this game right here on Saturday. Hey, you know, Willner's
been tracking the stats. You know, teams going multiple time
zones East or West in the Big Ten have not
fared well at all straight up and against the spread.
So I think you Dub's in a good spot coming
off a kind of embarrassing game at Michigan where they
(13:38):
didn't play very well. The offense fell apart and puked
all over itself in the second half with those turnovers.
And now they're coming back home with a chance to
get another big win and maybe shoot for a nine or,
you know, if not a ten win season, maybe in
a bowl game. So this is a crucial game for Jedfish.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, and speaking of him, I mean the way he's
conducted his career, you know, kind of bouncing from program
to program. He's an easy target. Yeah, he's an easy
target for any kind of trade, trade rumors, coaching vacancy
rumors that are that are out there as flagship for
the Huskies football. Here Kjar as the kind of the
(14:16):
face for our coverage of the Huskies on Kjar, I mean,
you talk, You're going to be talking about this team
for four hour pregame this Saturday, and you're I mean,
how are you treating the jetfish rumors and how much
substance are you giving them?
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I mean, I think there's you got to talk about it, right,
I mean, this is Look at the guy's resume. I mean,
I mean, look or not, I'm just not going to
ignore reality. I mean Jetfish even I think he was
either at his press conference or it's some later point
in time, he's even admitted it. Look, I've moved around
a lot, and he gets it. You know, he understands
what his resume looks like. Here. You know, he comes
(14:54):
out with a visor as an homage to Steve Spurrier.
He graduated from Florida. I mean, look, obviously the guy's
got a desire to go to the NFL, and he's
probably got a big desire at one point in time
to be the head coach of the Florida Gators. It
doesn't mean that while he's here, he's not going to
do a good job. I think there's absolutely, though, a
(15:14):
reason for Husky fans to wonder, you know, what Jetfish's
future looks like, both long term and short term. You know.
I mean, we're in a day and age where players
are moving around like crazy, coaches are moving around like crazy.
That's why I love the signetti thing, by the way,
so much when he stayed in Indiana, thought it was
great for college football that he stayed there at that spot.
(15:35):
But this idea that we can just ignore Jetfish's history
and Jetfish's resume and his status that is kind of
a vagabond, I think is crazy. So I think he's
doing a fine job right now while he's here, but
I think just to ignore that is absolutely nuts.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
All Right, So I think maybe the key to beating
Illinois is to not wait till the second half to
get the offense going.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Yeah, let's do that, and let's also get Joonah Colemon going.
I mean, he's at seven straight Big Ten games where
he hasn't had one hundred yard day, which is weird
to say that about a guy that we thought would
be a potential first team All Big Ten, maybe All
American running back. I mean, the guy's averaging in four
Big Ten games is averaging three and a half yards
of carry, which is not good enough for no, not
(16:18):
for Jonah Coleman, not for one of your highest paid
players on the football team, which is still weird to say.
By the way, four years ago, yeah, it would have
been arrested for something like that. But that's not good enough,
you know, And I don't want to just use the
injuries chuck to the offensive line to explain it away, right,
I mean, are we going to sit here and really
say that Carver Willis and John Mills, who's a pure
(16:39):
freshman guard, are the reason why the Huskies can't run
the ball. Really, because I thought Jonah Coleman was a
guy that could run through contact and he would you know,
the run game would travel against anybody, no matter who
they played. They'd be able to run. Look, I'm not
just ignoring the fact that those guys are hurt, and
that's a big that's a big problem. But they got
to get him going. I don't care who's on the
(17:00):
offensive line.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
All Right, man, thank you very much for joining us.
We appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Sorry, I know that, I know you were so close
to tasting something you've dreamed about your whole life. I
was thinking about you that whole evening and all week long.
So people like you and Ashley that just want to
want to relive this dream. So you're going to someday.
I know you don't want to hear it right now,
but you're going to.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
So yeah, well, you know we thought that thirty years ago.
Yeah that ninety five run here, and here we are
thirty years later, still waiting for it. So that's the
worst part, dude, is having to go back to the
beginning and starting all over again.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Yeah, all right, man, we'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
All right, Bud, there he is, David Softy Maller, the one,
the only joining.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Us right here.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Every Thursday on Chuck and Buck, we're gonna play some
Factor fiction at seven thirty five. Also more on the
big breaking news this morning. Sports Radio ninety three point
three KHARFM.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Good morning today. We're here in New York to announce
a historic arrest across a wide, sweeping criminal enterprise that
envelops both the NBA and Lakasainostra. The men and women
up here standing with me represent a small portion of
the leadership team that brought profound justice in an era
that needed it more than any I'll just highlight some
(18:18):
of the details in the case and the FBI work,
and then you'll hear from the others. But as you
now know, individuals such as Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and
Terry Rozier were taking into custody today former current NBA
players and coaches. What you don't know is that this
is an illegal gambling operation and sports rigging operation that spanned.
Speaker 6 (18:38):
The course of years.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
The FBI led a coordinative takedown across eleven states to
arrest over thirty individuals today responsible for this case, which
is very much ongoing. Not only did we crack into
the fraud that these perpetrators committed on the grand stage
of the NBA, but we also entered and executed a
(19:01):
system of justice against La Casinostra to include the Bonano, Gambino,
Genevese and lu Chase crime families.
Speaker 7 (19:12):
Geez yeah, like way bigger than Holy Yeah, Coroni, It's insane.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Chuck Powell and Ashley Ryan with you here on Chucking
Back in the Morning Sports Radio ninety three point three
k JR FM. Yes, we woke up to this news
this morning, breaking news from the NBA.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
You just heard it.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I'm not going to try and recap it as well
as what you just heard from the FBI, But on
day number three of the NBA season, they're dealing with
something as we're looking at some player arrests, coaches arrests,
and Chauncey Billups head coaching arrest for his involvement in
this gambling ring. And of course the thing that stings
(19:54):
the most is the fact that they were looking into
fixing NBA game. So the NBA, at this stage, you
just got to let this happen and then go with
it and then double down on it, because you're gonna
lose some of the trust that you have with your
fan base when you start the dealing in these circles.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
So that's going to happen. I think that will fade
over time.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
The Tim Donneghey scandal faded over time, and it didn't
take very long for fans to trust again in the product.
Maybe they did grumble on their chairs or on the
internet that this is rigged. I know it's rigged, but
they kept watching and they kept playing, so it will
probably fade over time. But the best way to do
(20:41):
it is to just let it play out, come down
as hard as you possibly can, send a message to
every player, coach, every future player and coach of the
NBA about how you handle situations like this, and you
might actually be able to work it out.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
That fans trust more.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, you know, it's sort of like when a restaurant
gets hit for, you know, a coli. When do you
trust that restaurant again the very next day as soon
as they open their doors, lenus.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
They've never been that clean before.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
And so if you decide to slap wrists in this situation,
you're ft. But if you decide to like double down
on this and like, these people will never be associated
with us again. This is the penalty for doing this
type of activity and become stricter in your views of
(21:33):
how players are interacting with gambling. Then you send a
loud enough message, a strong enough message, and you will certainly,
I mean, you're never gonna fix it, You're never gonna
cure it, but you can certainly take a big chunk
out of whatever else has been going on and those
that are going to get away with their gambling indiscretions.
Speaker 7 (21:53):
Yeah, and I do think that, you know, in this case,
this is kind of easy for the NBA to just say, okay,
our hand you know like this the FBI.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
Has done this. Me yeah, well yeah I.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Would be but just but to say, you know what,
the FBI is taking care of this, We're gonna let
them handle it, and then we're and then you know,
like you should be scared because these people are being
arrested for money laundering and wire fraud and they've been
like the poker games apparently that Chauncey Billips was involved in,
we're just all rigged. They had like X ray tables
and all sorts of secret contact lenses and cameras and
(22:26):
all these things, and they'd bring other people in and
take all their money.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Jeez.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
And then the prop bets were all created by or
bet On and rigged and all of these other things.
And so it's not like they're just being getting in
trouble for illegal gambling.
Speaker 6 (22:41):
This is like way bigger.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Deep is It is deep and dark, and so who
knows what else we're going to learn about this here
in the next week or so. But yes, a big
bad day, very National Basketball Association. All right, speaking of gambling,
let's play Factor Fiction.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
Yeah, of cour's that to go glat you with us?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
It's your shot.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Are witty thousand bucks?
Speaker 8 (23:06):
The only pure form dollar grand prize eats Factor Fiction,
probably presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
day feels lucky.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Fact Door Fiction is on sports.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Oh, didn't mean what about that? There we go, We'll
just go to this. There we go.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
All right, Yes, it's time to play some Factor fiction,
and it is brought to you by our friends at
Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every day it feels
lucky and on the up and up.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Let's face it.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Yeah, they're going twenty four Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel
is back to twenty four hour gaming every Friday and
Saturday starting November seventh, Slots and jackpots all night long.
Details at Lucky Eagle dot com. All right, we was
supposed to be Bucky's pick today, so I will go
ahead and take over the responsibilities. Bucky's not with us
here today and Ashley will pick tomorrow. So I'm gonna
(23:59):
go ahead because I like it when our listeners get
the chance to play every night.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
So nobody this week has picked the Thursday Night football game.
So even though it's not my favorite game of the week,
I'm still going to go ahead and play the Thursday
Night football game.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Now.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I went with the Chargers last week and got slapped
down really hard right across the face.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
They have to mark it did. Yeah, still read, but
I still.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Believe in the Chargers more than I believe in the
Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are beaten up right now. I
mean they're playing their backup quarterback Carson Wentz for goodness sake.
I don't think that the Chargers' home field advantage is
worth three points, but I do think that they are
a better team than the Minnesota Vikings by at least
three points.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Therefore, I'm going to.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Go ahead and lay the three points to the Minnesota Vikings.
I will take Justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers
to get back on track starting tonight.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
So I'm gonna go Charger.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
There's minus three and my pick for Thursday Night Football
tonight is part of fact or fiction that means the
Chargers have to win by four points or more in
order for me to be right, I might have to
explain that to some people. Not Terry Rogier obviously HEAs,
but I have to explain it to some that don't gamble.
This is their form of gambling. Fighting Factor fiction with
(25:21):
us here on kJ R, and we're happy.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
To have you here.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
So go ahead and text right now fact to four
nine four five one if you agree with Chargers minus
three at home against the Vikings this evening.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
If you disagree, text fiction two four nine four five one.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
If you're right, we enter your name into a drawing
for one thousand dollars in cash at the end of
the week. And every single time we play, which is
four times per day most days, you can play and
get your name into that drawing, just over and over
and over again. So you got to play, and you
got to be right, but you could win one thousand
dollars at the end of the week and a ten
(25:59):
thousand dollars jackpot awaits the winner of this year's Fact
or Fiction season, And so time to play right now again.
Chargers minus three at home against the Vikings. Fact if
you agree, Fiction, If you disagree.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
I think that was a good pick. Yeah, yeah, I
think I don't. Minnesota has not looked good.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
Yeah, man, I'm gonna the Chargers have had some struggles,
but they're better.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
I've got a really good season so far in factor fiction,
but I'm coming off my worst week and part of
that was taking the Chargers. So maybe you know, usually
you're once bit twice shy in this scenario, but my
feeling is I don't think I'm wrong about the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Well, I just don't think.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
I think they're a really good team who's playing its
worst football right now, but I think they bounce out
of it tonight.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
I would agree with that. Also.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
At the same time, though, I've been really bad in
factor fiction too, so.
Speaker 6 (26:46):
Me liking the pick probably isn't helpful.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah yeah, thanks a lot for the layer of comfort, Nashally,
all right, your next chance to play is at eleven
thirty five this morning, Mark James and Christopher Kidd will
deliver that round of fact fiction for you. Coming up
next on our radio program, we are going to hear
from our guys in the twelve man roundtable. We haven't
had one in a few weeks because of our baseball team,
(27:10):
so Hugh and Greg will be with us at eight o'clock,
So I'm gonna squeeze in some baseball next. I know
a lot of people love Gino Suarez and yet a
lot of people are wondering if he has any future
at all with the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
He only just got here.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
We'll talk about it next. Sports Radio ninety three point
three kh A r f M.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Another two too.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
That's another. That's how sure were you we were going
(27:54):
after that?
Speaker 6 (27:57):
Well, I told you I already.
Speaker 7 (27:59):
I didn't want to allow myself to even think about
the World Series. And I started to just briefly in
Game seven and that first iman, and then I went
away and then I started to again just let it
creep in.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
But I don't know, I don't know if I was
ever sure.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeah, yeah, I was pretty sure. I was pretty sure
in that moment. I mean I didn't go on the
air and declare it was over. No, like some people
twelve man Rounds table coming up at eight o'clock here
on chucking back in the morning. No Bucky Jacobson today.
And I don't think Bucky's quite ready to talk about
next year yet.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Where I was ready to talk.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
About next year like six months ago. So I think
maybe with him being out tomorrow. I'm sitting here, I'm
going to talk about Gino here in this segment. I
think maybe tomorrow on a football Friday, I'm going to
fill in all the cracks by just talking individually about
Mariner players and what I think their future might be
with the organization, or at least kind of chopping it up,
hashing it out a little bit. And Gino's a really
(28:53):
difficult one. I mean, he only just got back here.
They've already admitted it. As an organization. Jerry has admitted
my biggest mistake, and he's made many, just like all
general managers do and all presidents, all people to make
these decisions.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Not every trade works out.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
He thought that the Gino Suarez trade was his biggest
mistake transactionally, and in hindsight, yeah, I think that that's true.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I don't think there's any doubt about that.
Speaker 9 (29:20):
That said, there's not a lot of value for Gino Suarez,
and I know that sounds crazy coming off a forty
nine home run season, but there wasn't a lot of
value for him back when we acquired him the first time.
Speaker 6 (29:34):
He was the throw in.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
Yeah, that's which is so crazy because he was the
one that was clearly, clearly.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
The better player.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
He was the throw in in our trade with for
Jesse Winker and the Cincinnati Reds, and then he went
to Arizona for Sebbi Zabala and Carlos Vargas. Now, I'm
going to tell you something, as much as you want
to bag on Jerry Depoto and Justin for that trade,
and it was a bad one that I promise you,
(30:03):
that's the best offer they were given for a guy
that for us had just you know, been a.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Fan favorite here.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, and had kind of a gold glovish defensive season
in twenty twenty three, but it only at twenty two
home runs. Let me put it this way. His last
year in Cincinnati he hit one ninety eight. The previous
year he hit two to two. That was all the
way back.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
In twenty twenty and twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
He's one of the biggest strikeout guys in the entire sport. Yeah,
but he's also one of the great home run hitters
of the last decade. And yet I once saw Chris
Carter of the Milwaukee Brewers lead the league in home
runs and couldn't get a job in the off season.
So there has not been this belief that Gino's got
much left in the tank, dating all the way back
(30:50):
to twenty nineteen, Okay, And so the Mariners took advantage
of that, and then we're guilty of it as well.
And so it's such a difficult thing because I know
the priority is Naylor, and I think that the second
priority is Polonka ye, and I'm not sure there is a.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Third priority beyond that.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
I'm not sure that they do want to carve out
the necessary funds to keep all three of those guys
next season and do the other things that they want
to do this offseason. It he wants to be here.
The fans love him. He obviously can contribute homers. He
had forty nine home runs last season. He didn't play
(31:32):
Gold Glove defense for US like he did the last time.
He wore a Marion or uniform, but he wasn't bad
no at third base, not Ben Williamson, But then again,
Ben Williamson is a singles hitter.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
So it's such a tricky thing.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
My gut is that he won't be back next year,
that they'll prioritize Naylor and they'll prioritize Polonko, and that
they won't prioritize resigning a third veteran player that they
want to kind of go and hedge toward their younger guys.
And so that is my gut feeling. But if the
(32:07):
market is so stale, if it's not warm, I mean,
spoke track back in August said two years, twenty five
million dollars for a thirty four year old Gino Squarez
coming off a forty nine home run season. That seems
like chump change for a guy that hit fifty home
runs in a year, and.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
That was in August. That's when his value is crazy
to me.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
He has since played his way, probably to an even
lower salary. So for a guy that for the last
few years has not had a market despite being beloved
in all three cities that he's played in. They love
him still in Cincinnati, they loved him in Arizona in
a short time there, and we know we love him here,
(32:47):
and yet he's not had that robust of a market,
either trade market or free agent wise. So maybe Ashley
and I know how much you like Gino, maybe the
price becomes so agreeable to Seattle and that Gino will
take a lesser offer to keep his family in a
(33:08):
city that he clearly likes, for a team that he
clearly wants to be with and not have to move
his family again. Maybe there is a future, but I'm
highly doubting it. But if it is, it's probably Gino
Suarez saying I want to be a Mariner.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Pay me what you want.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
Yeah, And that's what I wonder if.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
I mean, not to fully lowball him, but if there
is an opportunity to get him for a better deal,
because he is a bat that you would want in
that lineup. Yes, he strikes out, but he also is
somebody that people have to take seriously because of the
home runs.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
And the players on the teammates love him, love him.
He just authored that grand Slam. I want him here,
I know you do. I don't think he'll be here
next year, but I think there is a world where
he is.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Yeah, so we shall see.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
I mean, who knows. Maybe you can't sign Naylor, maybe
you can't sign Polonko. Maybe maybe you only get to
rebring back one of them, and Gino's gonna be the guy.
There is a world where he's back in the Mariner
uniform next year. But I would put I would put
my money on him not being here next season, all right?
Coming up next twelve man roundtable comes your way. By gum,
we haven't done it in two weeks that Hugh Millen
(34:18):
and Greg Bell have so much to say about the Seahawks,
So even though they're on by we've got to make
up for lost time. We'll talk Seahawks for the next
hour with our two guys on Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJRFM.
