Speaker 3 (01:01):
Oh, good morning, welcome into this Friday and shut up,
chuck it back in the morning. Sports Radio ninety three
point three kJ r FM And Lucky, looky Bucky. That's
It's as if we clicked our heels and we're right
back here home in Kansas.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
It didn't feel like that. No, actually no, I'm pretty
sure way smaller. I do really appreciate, uh, the the
guy in front of me just reclining his seat back
immediately after our wheels left Earth quickly, quick and in
a hurry, and hard right into my knees.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
That was fun.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
But and then we did have one fights, and that
just decided I am not going to turn my ass
sideways as I walked down the thing.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
You need to just get smaller ginger fella.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Yeah and so yeah, that was It was four hours
of super enjoyment. I would love a pair of Ruby
red slippers if we can get a pair.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Of Yeah, that's now, that's the airline that I want
to hop aboard.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Ruby Red Airlines.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
We read work here be a really great name for
an airlines because it'd be like, yeah, we're gonna get
you home. No, I mean in a jeff with no problem,
because we know there's no place like home.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
We go fifteen hundred miles per hour. Yeah, that might
be a little dangerous.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I feel like the flight of the navigator, your face
would just fly backwards.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I want to just yeah, click my heels and be
right back here in the bosom of the iHeart Studios
here in Seattle. But we did make it back. We
are here, and we are on time here on this
Friday morning, very pivotal, very busy Friday morning on the
Seattle sports scene. One of the busiest weeks that we've
(02:45):
had in quite some time. And it culminates tonight with
a college football game, and of course Game five of
the Alds taking place at the exact same time. And meanwhile,
I guess there's a local NFL team that's gonna play
this weekend?
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I haven't heard a lot about that here the last
couple of days. But yeah, when the Seahawks get that
get placed that far on the back.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Burner, then you know there's a lot going on. Yeah exactly.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I mean, yeah, you have the game five, you got, Yeah,
the the Huskies going on the road for a Friday
night banger against Rutgers.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Home tonight home.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Oh they're home, that's yeah, that's yeah. My bad.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I was thinking on the road for some last year
they went on the road to Rutgers. Anyways, Yeah, the
Kraken played their opener and then it's like, oh and
and the Seahawks are playing too.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
M It is interesting.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I mean, going on, it's almost unfair to a sports
talk show host.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Oh you say it's unfair to the Seahawks because they
never get attention.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
They don't, they're starved for it.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, but I get a lot of that, like, oh, man,
you're gonna have fun today. Yeah, we are going to
have fun today because there's some awesome stuff to talk about.
But don't I don't think for a second that trying
to keep all of these plates spinning is some sort
of walk in the park. But nonetheless, we're gonna have
a blast today. We're gonna get you ready on a
(04:06):
football Friday for baseball, hockey, everything else that is on
our plates here today we're gonna feast. We're gonna feast
on the Seattle Sports saying. They provided us this all
you can eat Schmorgas board, and I'm gonna get to
I don't know six times. I'm gonna make my way
up to the My narrow ass is gonna make my
way to the buffet.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Sideways.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
You walk by me on your way up to that
sports mortgage board you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Don't worry about me. I ain't got no birthing hips.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Yeah he did have birth, and him apparently he didn't care.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
He's like, you guys should all just feel him. I
walk down this aisle, feel my hips.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
He was into it.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
He was he was into it. He almost got told
about it.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
But then I was like, you know, I'm gonna chan
channel I enter detroiter man. I just you know, tried
to kill him with kindness. I said, please, Well he
asked if I'd like some water. I said, yes, please,
and keep your hips yourself. I didn't say that part.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Though, Well, good to see Ashley, nice to see your faces.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, Ashley, Ryan has held it down back here for us,
Bucky Jacobs and Chuck Powell back fresh from Michigan, maybe
not so fresh, but new from Michigan, and we are
ready to go here on this Friday. We've got a
lot planned for you today, including some football talk coming
up on the program here on a Tito's Handmade Vodka
(05:26):
Football Friday. So we'll get to that in a moment
with what's on tap. But of course, the first and
foremost thing on our minds this morning tonight is Game
five of the American League Divisional Series. The winner moves
on to the ALE Championship Series and the losers season
comes to a close, And so the Mariners we'll host
(05:47):
at five o'clock tonight. We'll have you covered with postgame
coverage once again right here at Sports Radio ninety three
point three k a r FM, And it's going to
be a long day leading up to five o'clock, but nonetheless,
it'll just build the hype, build the anticipation, and look,
I mean, I realized that there's some anxiousness, nervousness, maybe
(06:10):
even some anger about not getting things done blowing a
three to nothing lead in game number four. But there
is an element Bucky's mentioned this a couple of times.
There certainly is an element of, look, I'd rather have
this thing in the bag. But had we done that,
then we don't have the magic of a decisive game
(06:32):
five of a five game series to win at home,
and the potential for who knows what kind of heroism tonight,
Who knows what kind of andics, who knows what kind
of roller coaster ride that we're going to.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Go on here this evening.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
But knowing this pitcher that we're facing, and knowing our
pitching staff, I would imagine it's gonna be edge of
your seat all night long.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I don't think anybody's running away with anything tonight.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
I have a feeling it's gonna to be low scoring
and tight all the way to the end. And those
are the type of games that you remember for the
rest of your life.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it is. That is without a doubt.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
It might be the definition of a silver lining right
after you win the first one there and you're like, wow,
we could end up like clinching it right here. I mean,
but advancing is what matters most. I mean, that's what
you want. There's no part of me that will if
if tonight doesn't go the way that we all hope
that I would be able to sit and go. But
at least we had Game five. Wasn't that exciting? Of
(07:31):
course not, yeah, but it's yes, there's an added element
of suspense that comes once it's win or go home,
and we didn't have that same suspense, you know, in
game four. So I mean that is I know that
that's just a you know, that's trying to find something
positive when you feel let down, especially the way in
which that game started and went for the first half
(07:53):
and then the way in which it completely flipped and
we end up getting their butts kicked and then flying
home kind of with that feeling. But I just know,
I know that's the way they're thinking, you know, I mean,
I know it's they're not gonna sit there and lick
their wounds for very long and think, oh man, we
should have got it done. Now we have to face
Terrek's school. No, yeah, you get to face terrek'school. You
(08:15):
get to go up against one of the best, and
there's nothing like when you you end up beating one
of the best in the game. Five that that's the
type of thing that again, we all played whiffle ball
and we're in the backyard, and you never said, well,
bases are loaded, no oubts zero zero, bottom of the ninth.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
If I don't come through, that's fine. We still have
a game tomorrow. Nobody does that.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Yeah, And so it's this is what you dream of,
and so to some degree it's it's something that is fans.
I the worst part about it being a fan is
I have no control of any of it. I don't
get to contribute. Now, if I did get to contribute,
it'd be very bad because I can't see anymore.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
But I do wish.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
I mean, that's that's a part of being involved in
the game. That's a whole lot easier than just sitting
there and watching someone else have control of your emotions.
But I do think that the possibility of what we
could be feeling, like, yeah, you know, just say, you know,
nine thirty tonight, you know, we'll be over at Jimmy's
talking about it, and I can just imagine that the
(09:17):
amount of joy that I will have if you can
find a way to just impose your will on one
of the best that's out there in Trek Scooble.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Well, le's just to remove how close we are to it.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
I mean, we're talking, there's three of us, and there
are a lot of people listening that. I mean, I
probably watched one hundred and fifty five Mariners games during
the regular season. You know, a couple of them I
couldn't quite get to, but one hundred, you know, but
almost every one of them is the point, and certainly
all of the postseason games. So we're close to it.
(09:47):
We're right up next to it, and we kind of
we would have been fine if we didn't build to
this fevered pitch here tonight. We would rather be preparing
for Toronto on Sunday night. Just think of it, if
you just remove ourselves from that a couple of rows
back from how close that we are to it. I mean, nationally,
(10:09):
there are a lot of actual baseball fans that weren't
even interested in this series until tonight.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
They're going to watch tonight, Yeah they are.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
You know, they are fans of teams throughout the country
that we're disappointed that they're not still alive.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
And didn't really want to watch baseball.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
They just they threw themselves into football and hockey this week,
but they're going to watch tonight and that's so that
shows you just how intense it's going to be this evening.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I mean, they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Be a lot of eyeballs on this thing because it's
winner moves on and loser goes home.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
And if we didn't have a.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Game five Ashley, we wouldn't have a chance for George
Kirby to throw seven shutout innings with twelve strikeouts, and
we wouldn't have a chance for cal Raley to walk
off will Vest in the bottom of the ninth for
a two to one win at home to go onto
the AL.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
I like the sound of both of them. Yeah, if
we can just can we pen that in? I don't
want to pencil it in. Could we just like Sharpie.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I've thrown it out in the universe four, four or
five times, just trying to, you know, make it happen.
The ball taught me that I'm going to speak it
into existence for him.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Yeah, you've got to take lessons from for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Worked for him.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
There didn't work for they got all three of his
sons to the NBA. He spoke it into existence. That Yeah,
a lot of people call them one of the wisest
people that's ever I don't.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Think that's ever happened. But he did throw things out
into the universe, and and I do. I mean it's
along the lines of jinxes and whatnot, but for some reason,
like self fulfilled prophecies and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
And that's the thing, that's another.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Part of the beautiful parts of what I was just
talking about, where I can guarantee you those those boys
were flying home. And if you think that one of
those position players, I mean, if there's not every single
position player didn't have that thought of like I'm going
to be the Jorge Polonko of Game five. I'm going
(12:03):
to walk off will vest I know what you throw,
We taught you what you throw. Well, you were not
good before you were a Mariner, and we know all
about you, all of that stuff. I guarantee they all
thought about it. I know George Kirby I was thinking
about on the way in. George Kirby, the pinpoint control
that he can have at times and usually does, He's
going to be thinking about it the whole way home.
(12:24):
Whenever he found out he was gonna get it, and
he probably found out long before we did.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I'm dicing these guys up.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
I am absolutely going to dot corners top rail, bottom rail, inside, outside.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
It's gonna be fun to watch. I'm excited. No, I.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Don't know if excited is the right word. I'm very excited.
I'm also very nervous. I feel like I could throw up,
but also like pee my pants with joy all at
the same time.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
That's like a lot of fluids.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
There's just a lot happening in my body, in my mind,
and I feel like my fingertips are even nervous, like
every part or shooting with energy, like every part of
my body is like, Okay, we got.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Less than twelve hours. We got the sweats, Yeah, we.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Got we got just just under eleven hours till game time.
Speaker 6 (13:11):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I would imagine five Iron is gonna have a beer
in the stands, and you're probably gonna have a glass
of Chardonnay in the stands.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
No, you're show yeah Seltzer and he doesn't usually drink beer.
He'd probably do a Seltzer too, Okay.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And then uh, Palmer the Great you know, sipping on
a sodi. They're just fluids all over the place. It's everywhere,
so you can puke a mountain, be them ount sweating
in places we don't normally sweat.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Hey, everybody, my calves are sweating well.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
And that's the I was actually even telling my family
last night, Hey, it's gonna be a little chilly. So
I was telling, you know, Palmer the Great, like, put
a sweatshirt on under your jersey. And then I was thinking,
I don't I think we're all gonna be so hyped
up with energy. We're a dang tank top. It's gonna
be warm enough. You're you're just gonna be feeding off
all the energy of the crowd.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Or your way, you read my mind. Underneath this little hoodie, you.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Got the Crawford tank top.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Alter, Oh, this is a halter top. I always make
that mid drake.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Yeah. I wanted to it pulled up and tied up
like that. Okay, so maybe its tank top that you're
wearing a halter top, but I want.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
It off the shoulder, yeah, and then off the button. Yeah,
you know what I'm saying. Button.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
All right, Well, let's dive into this big decision that
was made yesterday George Kirby and they took some time
with it, and so certainly there was a conversation. I
was standing outside the clubhouse when George Kirby was told
what was going to happen, or at least was given
an update after the loss, and he just with a
(14:46):
kind of a painter's hat on I don't even know
what he was wearing, didn't even look like a ball
cap pulled over his head with his new mustache which
doesn't quite look right on him. Uh, he just kind
of like stormed out, like, don't you even dare try
to talk to me about this? And no one did, understandably.
So if he had been in New York, Joel Sherman
would have tackled him, but he just kind of stormed
(15:06):
out and all the very kind Seattle media types let
him go. And so George kind of understood the marching
orders at that time, I'm sure, but we didn't find
out until last night that he is in fact getting
the start. So they are going toward the I mean,
you can you can list this Bucky as they're going
with a guy with an extra day's rest. I just
(15:28):
really don't see it that way. I think that they
made a decision, whether we agree with it or not.
I mean, you wanted the rock to go Game one.
I wanted Logan Gilbert to go game number one, and
I wanted Brian Wu if all things were equal, but
they were not. And here's the Mariners organization, I think
all along thinking, I just can't think that they're sitting
there like we've got the Tigers. Let's just prepare the
(15:52):
roster and the rotation. Yeah, So I just can't imagine
that that's their thing.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
So what I think, maybe.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
You know, if you want to give your self comfort
with this, the organization I think feels like George Kirby
is their most talented pitcher and has the best chance
of going out there and absolutely not giving the Tigers
a chance. Believe me, Tiger fans are thinking, we've got
the guy that, if he's right, he won't let the
Mariners score a run. That's how Tiger fans are feeling.
(16:26):
Even if our offense doesn't do much tonight, we've got
the guy who might be able to go out there
and not even let them come up for air in
this game. And I think that the Mariners feel that
the guy that has.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
The best chance of doing it.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
And we saw it in the playoffs against the Astros
not long ago, and we saw it during the Astros
in the regular season, not that long ago.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
I've said it all along.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I think he's the most talented pitcher in the organization.
I think they feel George Kirby gives them the best
chance to not let the Tigers even get on the black.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yeah, well, I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
I mean, it's you get there's so many things to measure,
and so that's why I'm sure it was not an
easy decision, like this is an easy decision for Detroit, right,
I mean they they there's no there's no there's.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Nothing that they have to mole over.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
It's a bit more of a decision because we have
more guys that you would classify as capable of and
good enough that you would feel you'd feel okay about it.
This works out where it's regular rest, Right, You're instead
of asking somebody that's you know, definitely not a spring
chicken and Luis Castill come back on a little bit
shorter rest and try to do the same thing. I
(17:38):
think it is more about where's who has the most
capability of dominance, flat out dominance. And I remember it
was it was Kirby's rookie year that we made the
playoffs in twenty twenty two, and there was that game
against Houston where he went out and it was like
seven innings and no runs.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I mean it was.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
And so that's going up against your big brother. And
so this kind of has the same field. Not that
the Detroit Tigers are a big brother, but trek Scuuble,
it's like you have to pitch. You got to outduel
your big brother in this sense. And I think that, yeah,
they're thinking about the talent level. It's all about how
close do you get to maybe not your ceiling, but
(18:15):
what is what are you capable of? Is a pitcher?
I need your ceiling outing tonight, right, That's what they're thinking.
Trek Scuoble is going to go out and do. And
the reason he's probably gonna win another side young is
he oftentimes pitches up near his ceiling oftentimes does It
doesn't mean George Kirby can't outduel him. Literally now, George
Kirby I think has a little bit easier task going
against them then trek scouble does going against us as
(18:39):
far as the offenses go. All of that said, this
is it's not an easy decision. At the same time,
if you're just kind of looking okay, how what's the
best possible outcome or likelihood? I mean to me, I
would think if it was Leis Castillo, I'm like five innings,
scatters four hits.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
And gives up no runs.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
That would be like the best possible George Kirby could
go out there and go seven two hits, no runs,
ten punches, no walks, and absolute shovet type.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Of a performance, and that's what they're hoping for.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
All right, Well, we've got four hours to discuss this
thing and other things as well.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Let's find out what is on tap on Chuck and Buck,
what's on TEP? What's on TEP?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Game five of the Alds tonight, Detroit to at Seattle
five eight is your first pitch, and it will be
George Kirby going for the Mariners against Rrek Schouoble. We
got the ABC's, We got all sorts of ways to
discuss this thing today. We got the Friday Oh Joe
Coming your Way, which a heavy emphasis on the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Here on Chuck and Buck.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Toronto, Awaits game number one will be Sunday at five
o'clock in Canada. Meanwhile, the Dodgers advanced last night over
the Philadelphia Phillies. Orion Kirkering is never going to live
down how the Phillies lost this game ground ball right
back to him, there were two outs in he in
(20:02):
the nervousness.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Forgot I guess how many outs there were.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
And then on top of it, compounded it with a
terrible throw home that JT. Real Muto had no chance
of catching. And the Phillies lose and they end their
season based off of Orian Keckering not prepared for a
ground ball hit back to him in a big moment.
So a terrible, terrible way for the Philly season to
come to an end. Meanwhile, the Cubs forced a Game
(20:28):
five in Milwaukee that will be played Saturday at five o'clock.
So nice little Midwest showdown right there for the right
to meet the Dodgers in the NLCS. The Kraken last
night opened with a three to one win. Everett fits
you Al Koniski on fire last night on the call
right here on kjar so was Joey Decord, who stopped
(20:50):
thirty five out of thirty six shots. Ian forness, Mike
Benton going nuts for the way Joey Decord played to
start the season. A good geting for Lane Lambert his
first game as head coach of the Kraken, and he
already has his first win. They will take on the
Las Vegas Golden Knights. Is here we go into the
long hockey season. It is now underway. They'll play at
(21:12):
Climate Pledge Arena tomorrow night at seven tonight, we've got
the Huskies for you right here on KJAR hosting the
Rutgers Scarlet Knights pregame starting there at two o'clock, six
o'clock kickoff as we get ready for the Husky's trying
another little revenge game here against the Knights. Coogs will
be at Ole Miss tomorrow morning, starting at nine to
(21:35):
forty five. That's a fun road trip. Number four ranked
team in the country right there. The Coogs are going
up against and the Seahawks will be in Jacksonville for
the weekend. They will play the early game on Sunday
and we will have a football Friday. We haven't chatted
with Greg Bell for a couple of days, so we'll
chat with our Seahawks insider at seven oh five. We
didn't have a roundtable yesterday, so we haven't chatted with
(21:56):
Youugh Millan about this game at all.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
He'll join us today at nine o'clo.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
We haven't talked to coach Homern in a couple of weeks,
so he'll be joining us at nine thirty. So we
will have some football for you on a Tito's Handmade
Vodka Football Friday. But also we will keep that eye
fixed on the Mariners coming up next on the program.
We've done it every day during the baseball season. We're
certainly doing it today. ABC's of the Ms on Sports
(22:21):
Radio ninety three point three kh a RFL Football and
Baseball Friday, sponsored by Tito's Handmade Vodka. So past the
Tito's and let's get ready for Game number five. We've
got a special edition of ABC's of the Ms only
because there's a big game tonight.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
I didn't do anything special for it, okay, yeah, well
special to me, all right, thank you.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Usually you have those asterisks there and that looks like
Bunteen asterisks kind of, oh, playoff game five special kind
of If I did that, it was subconsciously, Oh.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
It looks like yeah, playoffs. Yes, my heart is very
full with the playoff of joy.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
All right.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
We left off of the letter s yesterday says for
spire who has been such a factor. I love the
way that Ryan Healey put it after we I mentioned
it several times and we talked about it several times
on yesterday's show from Detroit and we got a portal
got back here in time that Gabe Spire has been
(23:18):
the focal point of this entire series, and Ryan Healey
brought up the fifth inning has been the focal point
of the everything that every game has turned in the
fifth inning, it feels like in this series. But I
do want to focus on Spire because of course he's
coming off a very good season. He's coming off of
(23:40):
two very good, too great performances in the series. But
he's also now most recently, coming off a stinker. S
is for stinkers. So what do you think Game five?
Do you trust Gabe Spire in the right situation tonight?
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Yeah, I mean you can't ultimately. I mean that's just
the nature of this game. But all games is when
you're out there and the lights are bright and there's
a lot of people watching, somebody's gonna rise to the occasion,
and oftentimes it isn't that somebody wins, it's that somebody
else loses, right, And this was one where was it wasn't.
He didn't go out there and throw the ball away
(24:15):
for a loss like we saw yesterday. There's multiple pitcher
mistakes and kirkering it up. Yeah, and yet he just
he made some mistakes with location and execution and got
hurt because of it. He didn't look like the normal
guy that goes out there and just kind of shoves
it and is you know, pitching it more on the
(24:37):
edges of the zone. He threw a couple over the
heart and they made him, made him pay for it. So,
I mean, you have to trust what somebody has done.
While you recognize recent situations, you recognize it, you still
you're not going to be able to say, okay, we
got left you up here, this is a time to
make a move. We can't trust him based on one
(24:59):
out here. You have to trust more of the large
picture thing.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Well, I didn't know what to expect in seeing how
Spire would react after that performance. I mean, on one
end is that he's curled up in the shower, naked,
maybe just his cleats on, sucking his thumb and crying.
I mean that's one extreme end. He was on the
(25:23):
other extreme end, like he did not I'm not saying
he did. He looked unfazed, he looked almost angry, and
when he met with people, he did not look like
a shaken, rattled baseball player. So I think the right
occasion he's called upon, Dan Wilson won't hesitate, but Gabe
Spire in the game, maybe not playing on him pitching
(25:45):
a full inning or an inning plus. But I think
the right situation pops up for him. And I think
that's an easy call to the pin for Dan Wilson.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
T is for Terrek poison.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
You heard of rat poison, right, Well, maybe we have
Trek poison. And I'm thinking about, you know, selling it
on the open market. A little more testing needs to
be done.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
And it's called it's this new chemical that we came
up with in our labs here in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
It's called polonko. What do you think?
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Is there a chance that Ara who is not who
did not hit well in Detroit? By the way, Oh,
by the way, Polanco had a bad couple of days
at the plate, just when you thought he was humming.
But is maybe he's got Terrek scooball all sized up
and ready to go.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Last time he faced him, launched two home runs.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Yeah, Well, I mean I wouldn't. I would think that
He's when they stand in there and they look at
one another, they're both gonna know what happened the last
time they faced each other. So it's a matter of
do you think Terrek Scooble is going to be worried
about it?
Speaker 1 (26:53):
No? But does he know it? Yes?
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Is Jorge Polonco going to be over confident, like you
can't get me out, I'm go yard on you every time?
Speaker 1 (27:01):
No?
Speaker 4 (27:02):
But he also but he also is going to be like,
make a mistake, I see you right, Because I mean
there's parts about hitting that is how well you see
off certain guys. I mean, there were certain guys that
weren't very good and I just couldn't hit them for
whatever reason.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
There's other guys that were really good.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
There's a bunch of guys that pitched a long time
in the big leagues who I just felt good against him.
And so I mean, yeah, maybe it is Polonko is
some sort of uh Terek poisoning and and you know
it's like at the end that side effects her. You
will lose a bit of you'll you know, they read
stuff off fast. You will lose you'll give it five runs,
an inn and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
If you have an erection long more than five hours
on poisoning your doctor.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yes, exactly, exactly takes Polonko. So I'm I'm down with
him coming out there. I mean, I look back at
all the games that he's pitched, and you know, Julio's
got school. At one point in time, he had a
home run off of him. That was one thing I
was saying. I didn't remember that, but that was one
guy that I think needs needs to rise to the
occasion and lock up on one against them too.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
So planco though, should stop short of like tiger claw
necklace like that he claimed.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
By You know, she's not a bad idea than too
little tiger.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Claws for each home run he hit off of him
the last time, and then see Naylor's shoe guy and
get some custom made things about the two home runs
that he hit off Schooble the last time they faced.
Was Schooble like just kind of on a collar.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, they're just leading him around. It might be a
bit far. That's a little too far. Then again, I'm
kind of okay with you giving it a shot. Uh, finally,
you as for unconventional. Prepare yourself.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I mean, this is not going to be I mean,
I know Seattle sports fans know what a decisive game
feels like looks like.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
But it's a little bit different with.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
This staff because we were so much more well rested
and we had so many more healthy pitchers than what
Detroit had at the by the end of the season,
and you know that they're going to be pretty conventionals.
They're going to go with schooball all the way to
the end if they can where I don't know, I mean,
I don't know how that's going to be managed, but
probably a little differently.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Than you've seen it.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
It wouldn't surprise me if we saw Kirby go three,
Castillo go three, Brash go one, Munosko two, just to
go with the freshest best arms that you have available
to you and keeping them at their very freshest.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
I mean, think about it, Bucky. I mean, Kirby went.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Four shutout innings in game one, Castillo went four shutout
innings in game number two, and so, and Miller went
four shutout innings in game number four, and so we
aren't our starters going first time through the lineup.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Haven't been touched, and Gilbert.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Went four shutout innings and game, they haven't been touched
first time through the lineup. I wonder, unconventionally, if that's
sort of the game plan. Yeah, George is our starter,
but they're only going to face him once because we
can also do that with Castillo, and then we can
go six outs with our all star closer tonight. I mean,
they've got a lot of different ways that they can
(30:03):
approach this this evening, and including you know, leeding in
their left handers as well, and appropriate matchups to maybe
get Carpenter and Green off their game or maybe even
get him out of the game. So it's not gonna
look like your typical playoff game. I think Dan Wilson's
prepared to pull out all the stops tonight.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Well, he has to pull out all the stops. I
don't want it to have some sort of plan and
then just think we're gonna stick to a plan. If
George Kirby goes out there one time to the lineup's
giving up one hit and no runs, you better Dan
will send him out there for the fourth you know.
I mean, if he does it again, three up, three down,
do it again, I mean you have to pull the
(30:42):
trigger quicker when guys get in trouble and then you
have a matchup that it sets up good for you.
But so I'm not saying you leave them in and oh,
let him battle through it. He can get us through this.
It's all about keeping us.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
In the game.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
No, this is about going punch for punch in a
win or go home situation. But at the same time,
I mean, like yesterday that the Phillies and Dodgers game,
I mean they both left their starters in even when
there was runners on base. Each one of them went
six innings or six innings plus. And I liked watching
that a little bit more. And then you if you
end up having to go to your bullpen or when
(31:15):
you go to your bullpen, Yeah, we do have a
couple more aces up our sleeves when you talk about
having luiska steel waiting in the wings.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
All right, coming up next. Normally on Fridays we do
no cliche keys to victory. We're not going to change that,
but we are going to change it coming up next.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
It's no cliche, no cliche keys to a Mariner victory.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Right here on Chuckingbox Sports Radio and Anty three point
three kJ rfl one word in our bit, and look, Kyle,
Bucky's all on board.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Suddenly pretty important word yep PTT. The important word changes
the entire bit. When it comes down to it.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
It's time for no cliche keys the victory. We do
it every Friday at this time.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Normally that is a Seahawk bit, but it is game
number five of the Aldus, the deciding game. Winter advances
Losers season comes to an end, and so we do
adjust it by one word. It is a no cliche
key to a Mariner victory today. That means, Bucky, I
don't want to hear winning the trenches.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Okay, I don't want to hear all three phases.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Okay, yeah, I don't want to hear win the turnover battle. Okay, yeah,
I don't want to hear the kicking game, right yeah.
I want a unique reason why the.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Mariners are going to beat the Tigers.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Okay, well, then I'll change what I had written down
the kicking game.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
I thought it was going to be.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
If you add in the kicking game, it could get interesting.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Well, we just want them to have a great kicking
game tonight, meaning the Tigers.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Kicking around the yard rules I called special teams for
those that don't know. Uh huh okay.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
So to me, this is this is so much more fun.
No cliche of keys to victory here. To me, this
is a game about approach when you're facing the guy
like Eric's school boy.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Well, surprise, Ashley, Bucky's sorry about a pro to drink, but.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I'm gonna give it.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
I'm gonna give it more of a I'm gonna get
a little bit more precise with it.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
To me, this is a time he does.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
He's got a nasty change up, but he also has
a plus plus fastball the first time through the lineup,
especially at the top of the order. If I don't
see guys selling out to make sure they're on time
for that fastball, he's going to be fired up. He's
pitching in Seattle, He's he went to college here. This
is you know, he's gonna have some fans in the stands,
five of them. That's all that we're letting in. Sorry
(33:35):
about it, Derek, your your aunt and uncle. They don't
get to come in if I don't see Randy Rosarina
and Cal and Julio. And it's fine if you end
up looking silly on a change up, so be it.
He's going to he's gonna challenge you because he trusts
he can throw it to the corners and make it
nearly unhittable. But he will make mistakes or hey, pol
uncle capitalized on a couple of them. I need the
(33:56):
first time through the lineup. I need guys selling out
to make sure they are on time the fastball. Do it,
and you hit a couple of balls hard. Then you
get to understand when you think he's gonna come with
the change up, if you let him just fill up
the strike zone with fastballs and then when you're behind,
make you look stupid to change ups. You have no
idea what he's going to do the rest of the game.
That's when he's gonna get rolling. If you want to
(34:17):
put five on this guy, four on this guy, knock
him out of there in five innings, that's your key.
That's the blueprint of beating him and winning this ball game.
You're gonna have to do it by making kind of
scaring him out of there. Scare him out of there,
be on time.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Ashley, what's your no cliche key to victory tonight?
Speaker 6 (34:34):
I think I'm trying to narrow it down to one.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
But it was at the same time the same thing
that everyone was saying on watching the TV and listening
to the game before Game one against Errek Scooble, right,
or Game two against Errek School.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
You've got to match him, e Jenny right. So it's
gonna be up to.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Kirby, It's gonna be up to if Castillo comes in,
It's going to be up to whoever. However long Schooble
is in, whoever is hitching on the other side. For us,
you got to match it. You can't give anything up,
and our pitching just needs to be We need furious
George out there from pitch one and that's it.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Yeah, it might on that description come down to Dan Wilson.
Speaker 6 (35:10):
Push on the red and that's what I was thinking to.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Yeah, no being able to Bucket's point from earlier too. No,
George has it tonight and ride with him, or Oh,
I don't know if I want George Vason Carpenter more
than once, knowing that Carpenters owned him and we not
be able to afford giving up a home run with
a man on base. I gotta go to Spire in
the third. You know that sort of question of the buttons.
(35:34):
It might come down to Dan Wilson being able to
read the game. I'm gonna go with and all this
is almost boring considering how.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Exciting this is tonight.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Defense, Yeah, well I was thinking that too, because we
made a couple of little mistakes.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yeah there.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I mean, we let them back in the game. The
last time we faced Google, we didn't have a lot
of offense against him.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
We plonkoed him and that was it.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
And yet we let them back into the game because
of defense and made the score two to two. We're
a better defensive team than the Detroit Tigers. We can't
give them extra outs tonight, No, we just can't. I mean,
there's just too much at stake. There's too much at
the line. The margin of area is way too thin.
We can't give them extra outs. If we give them
extra outs, I don't know if we're going to win
(36:21):
this baseball game. And I think we even have to
mightbe take a hit or two away, which we've been
known to do. We got the guys to do it
with Julio and Roblaze, and I mean we've got we've
got more defensive talent than what the Detroit Tigers have,
and so I think defense is going to be the
key to the victory. If we play a mistake free
game tonight, I think we win a really close, narrow.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Game, three to two, to two to one, something.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
Like that, and I'll take a couple you know, double
plays from Naylor on his own again too, if he
wants to, Yeah, why not.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
You know, there for a while we toyed with the
idea of just having everything hit the nailer. Yeah, yeah,
and I think he can handle it. Yeah, yeah, he's
not thinking that strength now.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
That's right. He's got that blue belt and it's magical.
All right. Greg Bell is going to join us next.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
We haven't talked to him in a couple of days,
but we should Today it's our Seahawks Insider, getting you
ready for the Jaguars on Sunday, plus your headlines on
a very busy day here at Sports Radio ninety three
point three kJ RFM.
