to that.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Good morning. Welcome into the radio show.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
It is Chuck and Buck in the Morning's here on
a Tuesday Chuck Powell, former Mariner, Bucky Jacobson, and Ashley
Ryan with you for the next four hours.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
We do have a really thorough show today.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
But certainly what's on the tops of everybody's minds, I
would think here in Seattle is that our baseball team
is two wins away from its first ever World Series appearance.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
How does that feel? How does that hit you? At
six oh one, six two on a Tuesday morning. Hits
me right in the sweet spot.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, I could notice that you kind of flinched in
your sweet spot, right, Yeah, Well I'm feeling it.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
It felt good.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Well, it was close to hit it in somewhere that
wouldn't have felt good, right, I Mean, that's kind of
what the in between the sweet spot and the sweet spot,
the exact opposite of a sweet spot. Yeah, I mean
I think right now, I would imagine this is as
close we are tied now with as close to the
World Series as we've ever been, right, I mean, so

(02:51):
one more win We've we've had two wins at this
level before, never more than that. And sitting here at
two and zero is feeling really really good.

Speaker 7 (03:00):
Yesterday you were talking about those Loonies and tunis so
is a two nothing lead. That's the Tunyo And now
it makes sense to me.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
Yeah, now I get it.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Okay, that's a story about it. If you want to
hear it, Yeah, he does. I heard it last right,
I don't want to I can't share. It's a wonderful story.
It is a wonderful story.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
I think we should keep that in your sweet spot.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Maybe make children do have something to do with sweet spot.
I figured a little pop up look.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Maybe yeah, yeah, yeah, it would be a good one.
Scratching sniff has to do with uh, polaroids and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah, yeah, we'll keep that there.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Uh so the Mariners do get it done. Yesterday, ten
to three was the final score. I'd like to say
a lot of it had to do with Logan Gilbert
kind of stepping up, but he did look tired. It
did look like it was a little bit too much
for him what was asked of him. And of course
Logan's going to take the ball, but he wasn't sharp.
He only went three innings. Fortunately for him. The offense

(03:58):
did such arrific job. I mean, it certainly showed up
to its largest degree so far in these playoffs and
kind of allowed for a bit of a coasting to
take place later on in the contest, even using a
few guys here that haven't been used a lot in
the postseason for four innings of work last night. We'll

(04:19):
get to the bullpen in a moment, but I think
the highlight is the offense, and the highlight of the
highlight is Jorge Polonko. There is a statistic called game
winning RBI, and it used to be calculated.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
It used to be a thing that they would put
up like you would get.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Your box score in your newspaper, and it would be
in the agat section. It would show how many game
winning RBIs a guy has had during the course of
a season. They don't do that anymore. They stopped doing that. Gosh,
I don't know, like twenty five years ago. It doesn't
mean that it's still not tracked to some degree. You'll
still see some stat nerds like Sarah Langs and others

(04:55):
pointed out during the course of a game.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
But it used to be charted as like a thing.
They don't really do it anymore.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
And yet I mean it seems like a pretty functional
quality thing to have on your side. And we have
a guy in or a Polonco. I mean it used
to be like, I gotta do this for memory, but
like game winning RBI in a year would be like
the leader in the.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
League would be like thirteen fourteen.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Plonko's had three games in a row where he's provided
the game winning RBI, not just your regular old run
of the mill, back of the country store game winning
RBI postseason baseball, or a Polonco has knocked in the
game winning run in three consecutive games.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
You want to talk about clutch, this guy's the clutch oven.
Clutch oven. He will pull. He could pull the covers
over your head. Well, you're talking about the ones for cooking.
He's talking about the covers.

Speaker 7 (05:54):
I'm talking about either one, if that's what you want
to take it.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
He's cooking or he's pulling the covers over your head
and he is fumigating you with some army.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
That's what he's doing. He did that.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Entire country of Canada, and that's after he did it
to Detroit.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Apparently he doesn't like things that are way up north.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
Which is weird because we're pretty far up north.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, up on your air, Canada.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
They do not like him right now, understandably. So I,
on the other hand, love him.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Like kind of really, but I I love him. I
love his.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Bug eyes and you know, his even though he went
back to the traditional EyeBlack versus the two tone digue.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Yeah, is that what that was going?

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (06:37):
It was like lighter at the bottom and when yeah,
dark at the top.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeah, that's the thing. I didn't know what that means.
But I liked all of his EyeBlack. But whatever he
decides to do, it's beautiful on you. You look great
in that eye. Black Blanco, keep it up, because yeah,
I mean it's I don't know why they.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Would stop keeping a stat like that.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense other than
well it's it doesn't really matter because not everybody it's
the same opportunities. Okay, I guess, but that's why you
put him in the fourth spot in the order, right,
He's a that four five six, three, four five, six
are kind of typically your RBI guys because you typically
have good one two three, and you're figuring these are

(07:16):
guys that I need.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
To help produce runs.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
And Jorge Polanco's had, like you said, three games in
a row now where it's like, hey, we could really
use this.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah, yeah, you know, we could really use an RBI
right now. And he's like, Okay, I got you.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Uh and so yeah, I mean it's excuse me, he's
kind of a godsend. I mean, I said it to
you yesterday when we were watching the game together. Imagine
if they hadn't signed him and he had went to
the Astros. Yeah, I mean, if he had had the
season that he and the rebound season that he had
for us this year, if he had had that for
the Astros, I don't know if we win the division,

(07:50):
just that one sliding door, take him off of our team,
put him on their team. He goes and they probably
win the division. That there's really a chance they're the
ones sitting here up to zero in the Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Well, yeah, I mean he's made a remarkable difference and
when they signed him, I mean before they signed him.
I mean, you can ask anders Hurst on our stove
and I think you two recollect. I mean, I was
really after Jorgete Polonko for years before we got him.
Justin Hollander apparently felt the exact same way. He had
been after him for a couple of years. It was
Justin Hollander that pulled off the trade for Jorgete Polonko.

(08:23):
Sometimes it's Jerry, sometimes it's Justin. Sometimes it's a collaborative effort.
Jerry always has to give the rubbers stamp, But Justin's
the one that worked on this deal and pulled it off.
And Hollander said, not long ago, man, I can't even
imagine a world where we didn't get this done in
the offseason. It was very close to not getting done.
I mean, he had a bad year his first year
with the Mariners. He had a bad year, and it

(08:44):
mystified me and certainly mystified Hollander and the Mariners because
they thought he was going to be a real difference
maker for them a year ago, in a year that
they missed the playoffs by one single stinking game. Imagine
if Jorgete Polonko was this year's version. If we had
had him a year ago, we'd be talking about back
to back playoff appearances. But he just didn't play well

(09:05):
last year. And whether that was coming off of an
injury or still suffering through an injury, I don't know
what kept him from being a productive player a year ago.
But obviously you weren't going to bring him back on
the deal that you had considering how poorly he had played,
and so they let him walk. I mean, he was

(09:25):
out in free agent. He could have gone anywhere, and
he was out there for a long long time, and
then came close to Bucky's point of signing with Houston
it sounded like anyway, and then the Mariners got back
in on it, and he started the season as a
third baseman, and then he was a third baseman who
couldn't field and wasn't allowed to hit from the right

(09:47):
side of the plate because of an injury, and now
he is just a monster. Here we are in the
middle of October, three straight game winning RBI for a
guy that's settled back in and base can hit from
either the left side or the right side of the plate.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
And of all the.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
People, including maybe dumber himself that you wanted the plate
with the game on the line. Man, Jorge Polonko's gotta
be the first or second guy that comes to mind.

Speaker 7 (10:13):
Oh, absolutely, I picture like, especially after these last three games,
Jerry up in his office, like in Billy Madison, man,
am I glad?

Speaker 5 (10:20):
I called that guy, like, that's.

Speaker 7 (10:22):
What my picture, And I just like, boy, did we
make the right decision to bring him back?

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Not just Jerry obviously, justin too.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
But it's it's pretty incredible that, especially with this team,
because I do feel like we've had so many of
our stars We've talked about like when Julio used to
come to the plate, it was like, oh, I wish
you weren't in this clutch position, right and right now
there's a good chunk of guys that I'm like, yeah,
I'm good, I have utter confidence.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
But when he steps to the plate, it's it's a
different story.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Well, a lot of that has to do Bucky's brought
this point up a lot.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
I mean, you do borrow off.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
The confidence they say hitting as cans, but it's also
you borrow off of the confidence of having a lineup
that you know. It's just we talk about this word deep.
You have a deep lineup, and if people have heard
that don't really know what that means. That just means
that you don't run out of hitters that you trust
after your cleanup guy.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yep, you know, and.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
We've got I don't know if I'm I'm right now,
like Roeblaze comes up or even JP comes up, I
don't know if I'm brimming with confidence. But even with them,
that's not a bad eight nine hit to have. And
so this deep lineup, it just kind of relaxes everybody
a little bit, even to the point where, yeah, we
had some trepidation when Julio came to the plate there

(11:42):
for a while. I don't feel that way anymore. He
had just as big a hit as Orne had yesterday.
And so that's the deep lineup, borrowing off of each other.
Bucky said it a thousand times, knowing that, Hey, if
I don't get it done, I trust the guy that
comes up next to get it done. And do you
know how much that relaxes me to get it done.

(12:02):
And that's the way that this team can operate now,
which has not been the case the last few years.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Well, I mean it's like, you know, there's a million
analogies you could use.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
To me, it.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Honestly felt like like running water, right, whether it's just
the dripping or you got the sync turned on full
blast when you're hitting. And I mean really, it can start,
It can start on any given moment, and it can
shut off at any given moment, just as far as
how you're feeling as an individual and how you're feeling
as a team. First guy goes up there, battles, has
a good ab Whether it turns out great or not,

(12:35):
it gives confidence to the next guy versus your leadoff
batter of a game goes up there and just takes
one down the middle, swings at one in the dirt,
gets a fastball blown by him. You're walking up there, going, well, okay,
that's right now. It's a slight advantage. There's still twenty,
you know, six outs to go for our team, and
yet that picture's feeling really good about himself and my

(12:57):
buddy's walking past me on his way back to the
dugout zero for one. Whereas you know, everything goes the
other direction and you have a really good at bat.
You're walking up there, and so to me, I think
this team has more of a chance of that water
faucet being turned on, you know, to some significant level.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
And I think that they feel it.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
So you have the combination of, you know, a rose
Arena is not a rookie obviously, cal Rawley's no longer
a rookie. Julio is no longer a rookie, So they
understand that it can turn on a dime it really quickly.
You can turn your offense into you know, a team
that they've been scuffling to score a bunch of runs
as of late. Now, if that's good pitching, fine, If

(13:36):
it's poor execution and situation of baseball, that's certainly part
of it too. But I think this squad gets we
are deep enough now that it doesn't matter what inning
where we're at to start an inning, we can put
up a crooked number here, we can at least scrape
together a run, and we might do that multiple innings
in a row. So, I mean, I just feel like
there's a good combination of you got a bunch of

(13:58):
dudes that are kind of right in their prime, and
then you got guys like Polonko and Naylor that are
right there like, hey, just keep playing hard, right, I
think Naylor said yesterday, you play hard and good things happen.
If you approach your AB's the right way, good things
will happen. And I think right now you just have
a deep lineup where it doesn't really matter who's up there.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
They have a chance. Now.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Obviously a guy like Polonko right now you're feeling a
little bit more so, but I mean I still feel
that way. I feel that way. I don't feel that
way when a Rosarine is at the dish right now,
but I feel that way with cal and Julio and
Polonko and Naylor, and don't really feel that way about Suarez.
I mean, JP from time to time comes through, but
he also has some some other times. It's I just
feel good about the entire lineup, and I think they

(14:39):
feel that right You can you can feel it when
you're up to bat. You can feel if your team
is over there like, oh he's got this, that's the
dude we want up right now, or if they're over
there like come on, man, one time, come through, and
that's not a good feeling when they're thinking the ladder.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Well, we said yesterday on the show Hora Polonka, you
just have to get seven more game winning RBIs to suit. Well,
he only needs six now, yeah, so no big deal.
Just keep it up, Just keep doing what you're doing.
By the way, the record is five straight games. Kirk
Gibson had a game winning RBI in oh that was
not in the playoffs, though. This is different, different ball

(15:15):
game right here. So Jorges certainly been shining in the
big moment. Yet the three run homer to break the
three to three tie yesterday and the fifth and the
Mariners did not look back.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
They win at ten to three. Talk about the other
group of heroes.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
And that's the bullpen right now, because we knew starting
pitching was kind of up against it. You use three
of your starters from your rotation in one night, it's
gonna have a ripple effect on your rotation going into
the next series. There's just not enough time off in
between series when you play the fifth and final game
of the series. But the bullpen has certainly stepped up

(15:52):
in this series and has not for Toronto. It has
been the difference. We've banged around their bullpen and they
haven't touched hours. We have now gone nine innings nine
innings of relief in this series. One hit allowed from
our bullpen zero runs, one hit allowed, over nine innings

(16:12):
from this group, with Eddie Bizardo turning out to.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Be the hero we didn't know we needed. Mm hmm, Yeah,
I mean I don't know for sure.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
We got the tried in obviously, almost feels like you
could have something just for those guys out of the
bullpen because we've watched how how temperamental and how volatile,
how big of relief pitching is, right, I mean, Gabe
Spier basically in that first series was what felt like
was going to be the difference whether or not you

(16:41):
won a game or when you didn't use him or
did use him, and if he came through or didn't
come through. Bizardo is just a dude that is kind
of He's a guy that when he came on the scene,
you're like, I don't know if I first sure like
what I see here? And yet boy his he turned
out to be an absolute godsend.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
Yeah, it's been there. I hate that.

Speaker 7 (17:02):
I still have the little apprehension because of what happened
with Spire over the last couple of games, but as
far as the rest of the bullpen, they've been impressive.
And yeah, when Bizardo came in yesterday. I was a
little nervous, obviously, with Logan going out so early, that
what are we going to do and how is this
bullpen going to get tired today? But they stepped up.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
They were awesome.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Twenty five years from now. I was telling Bucky last
night on the post game show from Snow Qualmi Casino
and Hotel. I was saying that twenty five years from now,
when Mariner fans are sitting around on their barstools with
young people who are like, tell me about the good
old days, Uncle Jerry, Uncle Jerry's going to be like,
well we had this guy, the big Dumper.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Oh, I know, the big Dumper, Uncle Jerry. Seattle people
don't sound like this at all.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
No, but I like it.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Yeah. Oh I know about him. He's in the Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Oh and then I don't have to tell you about
him or Julio I'm imagining.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
So let me tell you about Eddie Bizardo.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
You want to talk about a hero son, Yes, yeah,
two and two thirds in game five. Yeah, Bizardo's gonna
be one of those characters when people look back at
the Mariners twenty twenty five postseason run.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
However, deeper.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
It goes than this, but he's been sensational to this point.
And frankly, I think we're over. I mean, whatever we
had to do, Bizardo going eight outs Friday night, Gilbert
having to pitch out of the pen, Castillo having to
pitch out of the pen, that storm's over. We weathered
it and that's done. Next time we play a game,
George Kirby's going to be on full rest. Luis Castillo's

(18:41):
going to be on full rest for game number four.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
The bullpen should be right back realigned.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
You didn't even have to use brash Munnos or Spire
last night, so that'll be two full days off for
your top three guys out of the pen. And apparently
Bizarto can pitch whenever you want and pitch really well.
So yeah, to be up two to oh and to
be coming home for the next three days, my goodness.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Yeah, Softie's right, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (19:09):
Softy to be a fly on the wall in Softy's
house and he's watching these games.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Oh my god, poor Gina.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
All right, let's find out what's on tap for today's show.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
What's on TEP? What's on TEP?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
You know those National guys, Boy, they do some talking,
don't they. Well, we happen to have a national guy
who does a lot of talking over there at the
MLB Network who loves him some Seattle Mariners, and.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
He's going to join us today.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Harold Reynolds will be with us today at eight o'clock
the former Mariner second basement. So we're excited to get
his thoughts about what's going on in this series and
beyond two and oh and coming home games three, four,
and five will be right here in Seattle at T Mobile.
We will play Tomorrow night, uh and then Thursday night
and if necessary, how about that being in control of

(19:58):
that asterisk. The only way it will be necessary is
if Toronto wins a game, so that would be on
Friday night, game number five. Meanwhile, the National League Championships
series got started last night. The Dodgers win a tight one.
Milwaukee made it very interesting, loaded the bases and scored
a run. So scored a run, loaded the bases. Bryce

(20:19):
Terrang had a chance to tie the game up, but
he bailed out of the way of a pitch that
would have hit him. It's called it just natural instinct.
If he takes that, you got a tie game. And
who knows what else. In Game number one, instead, Terrang
ends up striking out against Blake Trining on a pitch
out of the zone, and the Brewers do fall to
the Dodgers two to one in their game one. Game

(20:40):
two tonight, they've got the stage to themselves. It'll be
Yamamoto versus Peralta Freddy Peralta in that matchup. That's a
terrific starting pitching matchup there. Game time will be five
o'clock Monday Night football. Last night, the Bears won over
the Commanders twenty five to twenty four. Don't look now,
but the Bears have now won three straight games. They're
three and two. Meanwhile, all the Commanders are finding out

(21:01):
a little bit of the sophomore slump. They now sit
at three and three and just can't get going, can't
get healthy across the board, and they're struggling a little
bit after that deep run they made in the playoffs
a year ago. The Atlanta Falcons seem to have hit
their stride and they slap down the Buffalo Bills last
night twenty four to fourteen. So Michael Pennix has his

(21:22):
team at three and two. Meanwhile, the Bills are four
and two. On the season next Monday night. The Seahawks
will be playing Seahawks taking on the Texans next Monday night.
We haven't talked to Greg Bell since Friday, so our
Seahawks insider joins us today at seven oh five. Huskies
have a huge date in ann Arbor, Michigan this Saturday.
Rick new Isle will stop by for his normal Tuesday

(21:44):
segment at nine o'clock and the Cracking Back in action
their first road game of the brand new season. They'll
be in Montreal taking on the Canadiens. Everett fits You
will join us the guy that Bucky and I saw
first Friday night to celebrate the the divisional series win.
And so we'll chat with Everett about our time in

(22:04):
Detroit and of course about the matchup with the Canadians
tonight right here on KJR.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
We'll do that at eight thirty.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
So obviously a very busy show with a lot of
really important people on it. Mariners Morning After Though comes
your way.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Next.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
It's Chuck and Bucksports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Chuck, Buck and Ashley with you. It's time for Mariners
Morning After. Here.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
We've been doing it all season long. Why would we
stop now now that the wins are just so much sweeter.
The Mariners were in Toronto trying to make it two
to zero in the series.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
They said, we stole game one.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
So what happens when you go in there and just
run rough shot over the host squad?

Speaker 1 (22:43):
What do you call that? The Mariners got off to
a terrific start.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Julio Rodriguez within the first three batters of the game
had given the team a three nothing lead on a
three run homer to left field Logan Gilbert, However, trying
to do a solid to the organization, pitching on just
two days rest after a rare relief appearance Friday night,
was not sharp. Did not have it last night. Wasn't

(23:07):
helped by terrible umpiring or a bad throw by Josh Naylor,
who apparently thought he was some option quarterback down the
first baseline in the first inning. Gilbert only got through
three innings and somehow the Blue Jays had battled back
to tie things up at three apiece. It would remain
that way though until the fifth. Rookie trey Ya Savage

(23:30):
has settled down for the Toronto Blue Jays. Mariners were
having some difficulty against his strange delivery and awesome stuff.
But then in the fifth inning, a leadoff single by
Randy a Rose Arena. The ball hit Geno Suarez in
the back while he was sitting on the top step
of the dugout, and I didn't even know what the
rule was there.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
Yeah, it didn't seem like anyone did.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
John Schneider was trying to say that, you know, trying
to get some call made that Randy A Rose Arena
had to stay at first base, but the umpires are like, no,
he's really technically in the dugout. I guess when he's
on the top step. So a rose Arena was awarded
second with the base open. John Schneider, who really is
now scared of cal Raley, walked him. So you got

(24:13):
first and second. Julio strikes out on a pitch right
down the middle, and Jorge Polanco comes up. He'd already
been the walk off hero or game winning RBI hero
of the last two games.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Could he do it again?

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Shot to right center field, Varsha on the run, he's
up the tracks.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
That's gone. Let's pullock again.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Porgey Polanco is own in October for the Mariners.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
He's given him a six to three.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Lead three straight games with the game winning RBI. Even
though it's no longer considered an official stat, it's the
RBI that puts you up up for good in a
baseball game. And that's three the straight playoff games that
Jorge Polanco has been responsible for that has authored that

(25:05):
six to three lead at that point. He added another
one in the sixth, three more in the seventh and
roll to a ten to three victory. I mean, we
always talk about Bryce Miller, doesn't seem like his pulse
ever rises. I think Hora Polonko's a little bit that
way as well. Even in the celebrations, he's the guy
like trying to calm everybody.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Down out there.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
You know, they're jumping all over him, and he's just like, yeah,
that's baseball.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
I'm really good at it. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
Yeah, I like to hit doubles.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah, we're just pretty good at being a hitter. I
do it for both sides. I've been doing it for
a while now. I think that there's a part, I
mean for me, I feel good for him, the redemption
part of last year.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
He had to have felt feel good to me. Yeah,
if he didn't want another Colton Wong, Yeah, yeah, right,
I mean it was you're right about that.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
It was a good call to want him, and then
it you know, last year, I think the majority of
it it is how hurt he was and how he
didn't feel like he could, you know, have the stance
and just the base that he needed when he was
in the box. And then when it gets really bad,
once you get to two three hundred at bats and
you're hitting fifty sixty points below your average, you're gonna inevitly, like, man,

(26:11):
it's almost impossible to pull out of this. I'm gonna
go drig, grind and try, and he did. But ultimately
it was nice to get a fresh start this year
and he's taking it and run with it. But the
clutch factor, I mean, that's no. You get the three
run homer in the first, they get two back, and
then another one is tied up, and then you go
to a couple indings where nobody's really scoring right, and
so that situation where Randy gets that you know, chopper

(26:35):
up the middle that gets thrown off Gino's back and
the dugout, then they walk. Cal Julio comes up there,
tied ballgame and takes one right down the middle.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
For strike three.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
When Jore ends up hitting that bomb, he runs around
the bases and it's Julio. They do their handshake and
hands them to try it, and it's one of those
where you if you're Julio, you're.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Like, thanks for picking me up, dude, thanks for picking
me up.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Because if you get two guys on to start the
inning and then you got your three, four or five
hitters coming up, if you would have got out of
if they would have got out of that, that's not
just a zero like we were talking about before, the
momentum parts of things.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Where it just would feel like, boy, here you go.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
You let another opportunity to slip by, and eventually it
would feel like the Jays would capitalize. Now they didn't
end up doing anything, so that ended up being the
game winner. But Horry Polanco, you're right. I just think
he's a consummate professional. I don't think he gets too high.
I don't think he gets too terribly low, and that
puts you in the right frame of mind to be
able to go up there and have some big moments.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, two for five in the game, Polonko, he has
turned out to be our clutch hitter, the clutch of
and and Dan Wilson had to start his postseason press
conference talking about or a Polonco.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
The it bat there. To get the three run homer
was a huge turnaround for us. You know, we had
kind of given up the lead. It had been tied
up there again and to get that three run lead
back was big. And you know, he's a tough out
right now, and it's been huge for us, and he's
come up and sit you know, in these in situations
where you've had guys on and he's been able to

(28:07):
do the job and drive him in and.

Speaker 1 (28:08):
That's what this game is all about.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
And it's been phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Just wondering what was what was the key to battling
any potential fatigue from the last series coming into this one.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
How did you handle that as well as you did?
A couple things.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
I guess, you know, nothing that I think our guys
are have proven over the course of the season to
be very resilient.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
They're just kind of built that way.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Whether it's emotional or mental, whatever, they're just resilient. They
bounce back and to get an emotional win at home
like that and come back here on the road, these
guys were ready to.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Go yeah, I'd say they were ready to go back
to back wins in Toronto ten to three as your
final score yesterday, Josh Naylor three for four at the plate.
He had a two run homer himself. Vicky Henderson also
stole a base yesterday. Meanwhile, the bullpen has been the
story because Toronto's has been able to get us out. Meanwhile,

(29:01):
the Mariners bullpen has gone nine innings in two games,
no runs allowed, just one hit allowed, and it allowed
them to win ten to three and take the first
two games of this series. So a day off today
will let the National League have its fun tonight. But
then you come home tomorrow night. George Kirby's gonna get

(29:22):
the call. Shane Bieber will start for the Toronto Blue Jays,
the new Blue Jay, Shane Bieber, great history, not quite
the player that he was before coming off of an injury.
But there's no doubt the Mariners have a lot of
faith in George Kirby. Otherwise, you don't name him your
number one starter in the first game of the playoffs
with full rest. You don't put him up against Trek

(29:43):
Schouble with the season on the line. So for them
to call out George Kirby.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
You know, certainly the Mariners.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Whether you agree with it, disagree with it as a fan,
you can have your opinion as an armchair GM, but
there's no question that the Mariners have the utmost faith
than this dude.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, and understand we so, I mean, he's about as
talented as you can get. He's got plus stuff and
got a supreme location when he's on. It's I mean
that this is the beauty of where they're set up.
You can't count an your chickens before they hatch, but
the fact that you are going to get to just
continue to run out a dude that can pitch like
an ace, one after another after another. Now we can't

(30:23):
sleep on Shane Bieber. He's not maybe the dude that
was crazy dominant just a short few years ago, but
he's still there's some stuff there. I mean, for sure,
you're going to have to go out and have good
AB's against this guy at a scrape some across. But
it just feels like, you know, just feels like things
are lining up in a good way right now, and
so they will enjoy their day off. I'm sure they'll

(30:45):
get some work in today and then it's show up
tomorrow and put you you got your foot on their throat,
you know what to do.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Harold Reynolds will be with us today at eight o'clock.
Ryan Healey will join us today at nine thirty. We
still have the ABC's of the m's coming your way,
but we are going to talk about a few other
things today, including the Seattle Seahawks as they're getting ready
to approach a deadline and we're not hearing much out
of John Schneider.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
We'll talk about that next.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Mariners up to oh and the Alcs.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Of course, we're going to be talking about it throughout
our four hour show.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
We've already talked about it for forty minutes. More reaction
coming your way.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Actually, Greg Bell was in Toronto last night, so our
Seahawks insider will weigh in on that a little bit.
But we haven't talked Seahawks football with him since Friday,
so we got a lot of questions on that front.
We'll get to that at seven oh five. We got
your headlines coming up at seven o'clock. Harold Reynolds, Everett
fits You, Rick new isil Ron, Ryan Healy all coming
up on today's radio program. So we are stockpiled with

(31:53):
fascinating interview subjects here today on Chuck and Buck in
the mornings, and of course make sure you're with us
through the postseason at snow Qualmi Casino and Hotel Seattle's
Closest as we will be doing the post game shows.
Beautiful setting out there at Hawk's Peak Sports Bar. It's
an awesome place to go watch the game. We certainly

(32:13):
enjoyed ourselves. Really want to sit out there on the patio, frankly,
and sit out there and just enjoy nature and overlook
your backyard. And they got those cushiony like sofa chairs
and then right in front of four televisions.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Oh man, that's where. That's where I want to watch it.
You know why it was closed off yesterday. I think
a lot of people are scared of forty eight degrees.
You and I aren't.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
No, it's kind of like the best possible weather, especially,
like I said, there's a futtle fireplace out there.

Speaker 5 (32:39):
Yeah, there's a fireplace, so that's okay.

Speaker 7 (32:41):
But I mean I sat out in forty eight degree
weather last night at softball with wind not ideal. No,
I think I had three coats on, a beanie and
a blanket.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
We did establish this off the air yesterday though, that
you are on the opposite end of the spectrum of
Bucky and yes, opposite. Yeah, in terms of how your
inner thermometer works.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
Yes, mine's more like a normal person.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Have you in yet?

Speaker 7 (33:07):
I have one, but I didn't think it was going
to be that cold last night. I have those two.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Do you wear them? I do? Are you wearing them
right now? Have you ever thought about being tough?

Speaker 7 (33:17):
Do you think about being tougher? I do you think
about that a lot? And then I think I'm too
cold to be tough.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
Yeah, I'm trying to be tough, but I'm shiver.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Yeah, tough.

Speaker 7 (33:29):
And here's is It's like I'll just bundle up and
I'm fine, but not like I couldn't feel my fingers
and you know, so it's like not there's certain things
your pants. I tried that, but apparently it's frowned upon
in public.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Oh it is. Maybe that's the way. Is it reason
I get those looks? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (33:44):
Probably?

Speaker 2 (33:45):
By the way, speaking of having the looks, last night,
we're at snow quaal Me having a good time. A
lot of people showed up a lot of Mariner fans
showed up to watch the game, but at one point
when Garber hit his triple, oh yeah, there was a
guy that came specifically there to watch the Mariners game.
And he kind look like a combination between cal and
Uh and Garver to be quite frank.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
And he's sitting at the end of the bar and he.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Yells out and wait, Dumper and Bucky and I are like,
you're out of here.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
That's Garver. And if I were your wife, I divorce
you right now. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
Yeah, I thought you were gonna say, like he had
to look at Bucky and be like.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Did you see that Garver triple?

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Bucky?

Speaker 1 (34:22):
No, no where to go? Dumper.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
He like yells at the top of his voice, and
everybody in the bar just kind of looked at him, like,
it's time.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
For you to leave, budd. Yeah. Yeah. And when we
say we mean the country.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
Yes, maybe you should go to Toronto, sir.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Yeah. There. You do not ever mistake Garver for the Dumper.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
No, no, please, but amateur movie Garver had a boy.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Yeah, good on your guard.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
You can never hey, you can never get a triple
if you're trying to get a walk.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
That's the truth point, great point.

Speaker 5 (34:53):
Put that on a shirt.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
We are going to talk a little Seahorks football coming
up with Greg here at seven o five, of course,
And I just want to point this out. I heard
this morning Adam Schefter being interviewed about the NFL trading deadline.
It's three weeks from today, and of course it's more
active than it has ever been in the past, so
active that in recent years he might be a little

(35:15):
bit surprised to know this. In the last three years,
we've had about thirteen to eighteen trades per trading deadline.
Before that, the last five years, I mean your span
was about three to nine, so we're doubling up the
amount of trades. And Schefter claimed today there will be
at least eighteen trades this month before the deadline. They've

(35:36):
already been three in the National Football League. This month,
he says there will be at least eighteen trades, so
that's pretty much saying there's going to be twenty or more.
John Schneider is always very active, but all we've ever
heard from him, at least on the rumor mill, are
guys that might be on their way out, like Arek
Wohlan could be on his way out. He was always adding.

(35:57):
Certainly the team looks worthy of being added to this year,
so it's interesting. It'd be interesting to find out what
John's thinking, how aggressive he might be. He's got three
hours to make a move. I mean, Ernest Jones added
last year, Leonard Williams added the previous year. I mean,
this is one of the most aggressive general managers in
the National Football League. So I promise you he's not

(36:17):
just thinking about selling at the trading deadline. He's going
to think about really working that thing over the next
three weeks. Something that we haven't discussed a lot with
Greg Bell. Maybe we will mention it coming up in
our next conversation with him, which is coming your way
after the breaks. Greg Bell plus your Headlines on Chuckin'
Buck Sports Radio ninety three point three KKRFM.
