They have a BIG game on Saturday morning in Ann Arbor. Jedd Fisch really needs a win like this to elevate his program. :30- Luis Castillo is getting the start tonight for the Mariners while Max Scherzer goes for Toronto, but is this the same Scherzer that we once knew? He has not had a quality start since August 14th, so let’s not let him have one tonight! The Blue Jays.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Ended up at one point, scoring twelve unanswered runs on
the way to a thirteen to four convincing victory in
Game number three, but have no view the Mariners had
a little leg up in the series. They won both
games in Toronto and so still have a two games
to one lead in the series. Of the Blue Jays
still have a lot of work just to catch up

(01:37):
to the ends. Let's hope it never happens. Game number
four will be played tonight out at T Mobile. Luis
Castillo gets the ball for US. Max Scherzer will be
starting for the Toronto Blue Jays. We'll talk more about
that pitching matchup later on in this hour. First pitches
at five thirty eight. So the American League Championship Series
rolls on right here in Seattle. Mariners remain oh precious

(02:01):
wins away from the World Series. We're gonna talk more
about that with our next guest coming up here in
a little bit, But first let me rip through some
headlines brought to you by Frost.

Speaker 6 (02:09):
Brewed Corps Light Choose Chill.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
We'll start with the Thursday night football game tonight, Pittsburgh's
gonna be at Cincinnati. That gets the brand new week
of the National Football League season underway. A battle of
forty plus year old quarterbacks. It's Rogers versus y a Tittle. Also,
the Seahawks are in action this Monday night against the
Houston Texans.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
Texans off to a two and.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Three start, but have the number one defense by far
in the National Football League that Sam Darnold and company
will have to contend with. Husky's a huge game against
the Michigan Wolverines in the Big House in ann Arbor
this Saturday. It's another topic we'll discuss with our very
high profile next guest here in a little bit. And

(02:54):
the Kraken will be in action against the Ottawa Senators tonight,
their fourth game of the season and they still have
not played a game this season without coming away with
at least a point. Let's see if they can keep
that trek going tonight in Ottawa. But right now we
have to talk to our lovable co worker, friend and
face of the franchise. It's David Softy Maler.

Speaker 7 (03:17):
Yeah, it kind of helps, and you turn the microphone on, Bucky,
but we don't blame you.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
After last night. What time did you guys hit the
sack last night?

Speaker 5 (03:24):
By the way, I went to got in bed about
eleven thirty and then felt about two thirty.

Speaker 7 (03:29):
Yeah, yeah, one of those just stare at the wall
and just yeah, it was awesome. Over every little thing
from the game before. How did you handle it? I
thought I handled it okay, to be honest with you,
you know, I mean honestly, I'm sitting there watching this
train wreck unfold in front of my very eyes, and
I'm thinking to myself, I know, and this franchise knows

(03:52):
exactly what it's like to be doing what Toronto's doing,
because in two thousand and one, the Yankees came here
and they two games in Seattle, and I.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Remember waiting online to get into the clubhouse.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
After game two, Louke Panella comes walking by the media
on his way to the media room and says, we're
gonna bring up back here for Game six. And then
they went to New York and they hammered the Yankees
in Game three, just like the Jays hammered us last night.
And the Yankees won a dramatic Game four, famous Game four.
I got scars from that Game four, and then they

(04:28):
kicked our ass in Game five and the.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Series was over.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
So we were exactly in the same position the Blue
Jays were in twenty four years ago after winning a
big Game three, And I'm just kind of wondering if
the Mariners had lost Game one in Toronto, but now
won the last two, right, what would the vibes feel like?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Then?

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Well, I let's let's hope for that same pattern. I'm
sorry about what happened to you in two thousand and one,
but I'll take that exact game plan described.

Speaker 8 (04:58):
Let's do that.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well, I mean, look, guys, here's the deal.

Speaker 7 (05:01):
And I'm getting text from people and I'm sure you're
thinking the exact same thing I am. Can we kind
of agree that it may have been better just to
get our ass kicked last night? If we're gonna lose
a game three like that, let's not burn through Bizardo,
Let's not burn through Brash, Let's not burn through spire Munyos, whatever.
Let's have everybody available for game four. Just get drilled

(05:23):
in game three? Like, do you really give a damn
if you lose two to one or twelve to four,
whatever the hell the score was last night this point
of the year, a freaking loss is a freaking loss, right,
So who gives a damn? And I'm kind of wondering if, honestly,
if you're gonna lose a game, is that kind of
the way you want to go do it?

Speaker 8 (05:41):
For sure, there's no doubt.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
I mean, because you didn't have to blow through anybody
while you're in the middle of playing a back to
back to back home series.

Speaker 8 (05:49):
I mean, I am wondering.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
I mean, it sounds like you're handling this very well,
which is very adultprising.

Speaker 7 (05:57):
Well, I look, man, I mean, sitting there in the stands,
there's no fun, and I was like living in the moment,
you know, kind of with everybody else, you know, kind
of cursing Wilson beyond belief.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
What the hell is the guy doing? Blah blah blah,
get him out of there.

Speaker 7 (06:08):
But I mean, I just again, you know, you're you're
allowed to be emotional during things like this. You're allowed
to be logical during things like this. And you go
home and you clear your head and maybe you think
about it a little bit. You know, you're not really
using your brain when you're at the park. You're kind
of using your heart a little bit more than your head.
And then you get home and you think, all right, well,
the guy was at twenty four pitches after two innings,
which is perfect, right. I mean, that is just a

(06:30):
phenomenal start by George Kirby, and then boom, the wheels
fell off the bus fast with that first day b
in the top of the third with that double by Clement,
and then you're thinking, Okay, you know, maybe maybe at
five two you could have yanked him. I would have
probably yanked him at six to two, guys, to be
honest with you, after the Springer, Homer thinking, yea, all right,

(06:50):
with the Jay's bullpen, you still maybe have a shot
to come back from a full run deficit. But you know,
once you started wearing it even more, you just kind
of threw in the t at that point, and you're
just making sure you don't have to burn any real
legit arms.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Out of the bullpen. So again, I just got to
think that this decision, and let's go back to the decision.

Speaker 7 (07:11):
In game number two to start Logan Gilbert over Luis
Castillo because Castillo, and you guys correct me if I'm wrong.
His last start was last Monday, October the fifth. He
threw fifteen pitches in that game Friday night against the
Tigers in the fifteen in game, which you could just
assume was kind of a bullpen day for him. So
they could have started him Monday in Toronto, but they

(07:34):
didn't want to get him on the road. They wanted
to keep him away from the Rogers Center, where his
splits on the road are ridiculous compared to his home
two point six at home four point.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Seven era on the road.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
So the decision to save Luis Castillo for two day,
We're about to find out from Dan Wilson today if
that was the right call and a better Dann will
be the right call.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
It feels like a good matchup, feels like a favorable matchup. Sure,
he's been really bad over his last six starts of
the regular season, but how do how do you map
it out? I mean, do you take anything from the
Kirby onslaught and with the Wu factor existing here and
now suddenly Bryce Miller, I'm not sure we don't want

(08:15):
to give him the ball. I think we all maybe
want to give him the ball again before the series
comes to a close. So looking beyond, we know Castillo
is starting tonight, but did last night change the way
that you would structure the rest of the series? Starting
pitching one, I think.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
If if, if Luis Castillo doesn't have it tonight, I
think Brian Wu's coming in out of the pen. That's
my call tonight. In that care, I think I think
you got to go to Brian wu today. I mean,
this is this is you know I thought yesterday Again.
I know, logically, technically it's not a do or die game.
I wanted them to approach it like it was a
do or die game and act like they were down

(08:49):
oh two, and go get the three to zero lead
and deal a death blow to Toronto and just finish
them off. But I don't want nothing to do man
with going back to Toronto, and I certainly want nothing
to do with let those guys tie this thing up
at two games apiece. So I would approach Luis Castillo
tonight exactly almost the way that the Mariners approached Logan

(09:10):
Gilbert on Monday, and the way the Blue Jays approached
Shane Bieber in Game three of their Yankees series. You know,
after a couple innings, if it's if it's obvious that
the big guy doesn't have it, I'd get Brian Wo
up and I'd have him ready to go and to
ready to enter this game as early as maybe the
second or the third inning, because they've they've got to
win this game tonight, Chuck, for exactly the point that

(09:30):
you just made, You've got Luis Castillo versus Max Fings Scherzer.
You get this would be a huge gift for Toronto
to win this game tonight. You can't let that happen.

Speaker 8 (09:42):
Tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, I think he will too.

Speaker 8 (09:45):
Man, I think so. I mean, I don't know if
he's gonna be perfect.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
This is this team can hit, but I think that
we should be able to outdo our offense, should be
able to outdo theirs. I mean, so it sounds like
you're in the right frame of mind, and I'm proud
of you for that.

Speaker 7 (09:58):
I changing an hour, by the way, I know, we're
jumping online and reading social media and blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
That could change in an hour. Yeah, and yet I don't.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
I mean, if if things were to not go according
to plan tonight and then you find yourself tied up,
then I'm certain that you and a bunch of other
people here in Seattle will. But I mean when it
comes to a couple guys, I mean trying to find
silver linings in this whole thing. I mean, Randy goes deep.
It would be nice to get him going. Geno hits
the ball hard, that would be nice to get him going.

(10:31):
Because I think that you we have a better pitching staff,
and we could go out there and shove against these
guys just like we did the first couple of games.
There's an opportunity though, this this this group of hitters
you're going against, that they could score for a five
a game against whoever you're putting out there, or maybe
a couple guys in the bullpen or whatever it might be.
So how are you feeling about just the hitters and

(10:53):
what you think maybe they can do the rest of
the series.

Speaker 7 (10:55):
Well, here's the thing, Bucky, And again, this is this
is what I'm talking about when you're talking about just
being emotional and living in the moment and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
And you know, am I glad that Randy went yard
last night? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (11:07):
But I'd like to see him do it in a
different spot besides down ten nothing or turn two. Whatever
the hell the score was last night? Was it twelve
two when he hit that bomb? I had twelve to two?
I got no idea. So look, I mean, if that's
him heating up, if that's him finding something for today's game,
then great, But if not, no, I'm not going to

(11:27):
get jacked up at all about a guy going yard
down ten and basically popping a meaningless bomb when the
game was over. So I need to see more from him.
But yeah, I mean, we know the Mariner offense is
much different on the road than they are at home.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
They have been all year long, I mean.

Speaker 7 (11:44):
And that's why last night was so disappointing out of
George Kirby, and it's why I kind of feel good
about Luis Castillo tonight. First of all, you know, when
was the last time well, I mean, going back to
the Mets and Phillies trip, obviously, you know the idea
of seeing these guys just raked for three games in
a row, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and now Luis Castillo.

(12:04):
I would bet money against that happening. And the number
two of the pitching staff at home has been balls
all year long. So if I can't count on a
guy in Luis Castillo who's got a split of home
versus road of over two freaking runs to deliver in
the biggest game of the year, then when count I
count on that?

Speaker 9 (12:24):
Right?

Speaker 7 (12:25):
So I don't think this will be a high scoring game.
I don't think the Mariners offense is capable consistently of
putting up a lot of runs in that ballpark, but
traditionally nobody is. I know, the Blue Jays did it
last night, but you know, let's hope that was just
kind of a flash in the pan. So I'm not
expecting Bucky of the offense to do fireworks tonight. What
I'm expecting is another nail bier, just like we had

(12:47):
in Game four of that Yankee series in two thousand
and one. I think you're going to see a tight
game and the seventh inning, and I think hopefully in
the end knock on wood. The idea that you were
able to rest all your good arms and the ball
last night will pay dividends tonight in the seventheith to night, tonight.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
And tomorrow because now you can use all four of
your best guys the next two nights. Softie is with
us here on Chuckerback in the morning. He always joins
us every Thursday Thursdays with Softy Sports Radio ninety three
point three k a RFM. Normally we talk Huskies, and
so we do need a couple of minutes. I mean,
is a huge game, I mean huge Jetfish does get
his you know, road win in the Big ten, his

(13:25):
road win number one, and then his road win in
the Big Ten. So he's knocked a couple things off
the list of things he has to get accomplished this season.
But he really needs a big, nice, fat win that
gets gets notice and that could come this weekend at Michigan.
So how big do you think this game is for
the Jetfish program? Well, here's here's here's.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
What I think, man.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
I think there's a lot of people out there that
have a lot of fantasies about what Husky football could
do this year, and if they win this game Saturday
at Michigan, a lot of the people that have those
fantasies are gonna get louder and louder and louder with
their take about the college football playoff. Honestly, you win
this game, and you're six and one, and you're looking at, Okay,

(14:10):
a bad UCLA team, a bad Purdue team, a bad
Wisconsin team. That's nine wins right there. Illinois's coming to town.
They've proven that they can get smacked by anybody. They're
a good team, but they've also proven they may not
be a great team. And they're coming to town. That's
ten wins right there. And then all of a sudden,
you're talking about Hey, is that Duck game in November

(14:31):
maybe gonna be for a spot in the College Football Playoff?
I mean a ten to two Big Ten team? Does
that team get left out of the tournament? So I
think this is a huge fork on the road game
for ub but a huge fork on the road game
for jed Fish because I just look at the rest
of the schedule and I just think, again, Ucla Perdue, Wisconsin,

(14:52):
Illinois at home, those are games the Huskies probably should win.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
And that's ten wins guys, right there. Ten for the
game with the Ducks. So this game is everything.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
Yeah, yeah, unbelievable. I mean, how how confident do you
feel going into the Big House? I mean a road
game is one thing against Rutgers, but I mean a
road game in the Big House is a different ball game.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
Well, I've never seen a victory there as a fan,
so I'm not going to this one. I'm staying home, right,
I'm taking one for the team. Every time I go
to Michigan, weird things happen. Twelve men in the field,
we got our ass kicked by somebody, blah blah blah.
The last time we were there was the well Mike
McDonald was the the DC from Michigan and he kicked
our ass. And that's the day that Dick Beard quit,

(15:36):
by the way, last time he went to Michigan to
take on the Wolverine. So I've had a lot of
bad memories from those from those those games in that stadium.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
So I'm I'm staying home for this one.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
But I feel, you know, I feel better about it
because they got a freshman quarterback in Bryce Underwood.

Speaker 8 (15:50):
Bucky.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
I'm not sure how ready he is.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
I think he might be a really good player down
the road, but I mean, my god, I would take
Demon Williams as a red shirt freshman one hundred times
out of one hundred over Bryce Underwood right now as
a true freshman. And you look at Michigan, Man, this
is not the same defense that we saw a couple
of years ago play the Huskies for the national title.
They're eleventh in the Big Ten in total defense, thirteenth

(16:13):
in the Big Ten in past defense. They are third
and rushing, but then they gave up one hundred and
sixty yards to a freaking walk on last week against
USC So this might be the week that Jonah Coleman
starts going bananas.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
He really hasn't done much, by the way, in the
Big Ten.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
He's like sixteenth in rushing yards in Big Ten games
only after three games.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
So it's time to get number one going.

Speaker 7 (16:33):
So I'm not saying I'm overly cocky about walking into
Michigan and getting a victory, but I feel a lot
better about it now than I would have two or
three years ago.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Absolutely, well, you better get cocky.

Speaker 7 (16:42):
We need some We need cockyty on hand until I
need to get Kaki. I need Luis Castillo to get Kaki.
I need Luis Castillo to go out there like he's
the best freaking picture, walk in the face of the
freaking earth and shove it right up.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
There, kannuck asses tonight. That's what I need.

Speaker 7 (17:00):
And by the way, did you guys notice that there
was a lot less Blue Jay fans in his hands
last night than there normally is for a regular season game.
You know what, though, every single one of them was
in my god darn section, every single one, including some
Jackwagon that was in.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Full Blue Jay gear, pants and uniform and hat.

Speaker 7 (17:23):
Sons of bitches. I'll send you a picture, Bucky. You
would have knocked this guy out just on principle. Yeah, yeah,
he can't work. Was a freaking cup and some EyeBlack.

Speaker 8 (17:34):
Not good.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
We have to win just to beat that guy.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
I don't know what it is about these Canadians man
with their little beady eyes.

Speaker 6 (17:44):
And they're flay off.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
Yeah, I hear you.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
I wanted to fight everybody.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
All right, man, Well we'll see you later on today.
How about that?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Okay, buddy, Hey, good job last night. Guys.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Hey, thank you David Softy Maller joining us here every
Thursday to talk some Husky football.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
But of course he's got other things on his mind
right now.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
All right, Coming up next on the program Factor Fiction Plus,
we will discuss Max Scherzer. I've been teasing this for
like three straight segments. We might as well get that done.
Next Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 8 (18:18):
Geez your coorspect and normal.

Speaker 6 (18:22):
Coming up Factor Fiction at seven thirty five.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
In the meantime, Max Shirs are getting the start for
the Toronto Blue Jays. And what certainly is you know,
maybe you did have a game to play with last night.
I know that's not the way you approach playoff games.
You gotta seize every single opportunity that you have. But
with a two to zero lead, Yeah, I think even
a Mariner fan and a Mariner fans tend to overreact some.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
I don't know if you've noticed I've heard that.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Yeah, I think even they are taking in stride, like,
all right, still up two games to one, Still in
a really good position here, and we do have the
pitching advantage tonight on paper. Luis Castillo going again, it's
Max Scherzer. Now you hear that from the past, and
you're having to face Max Scherzer in a really big
playoff game, you might not even show up to work.

(19:09):
I mean, this guy's going to the Hall of Fame someday,
first ballot. This is one of the great competitors in
the history of Major League Baseball, and that has not changed.
He's gonna show up today. He's going to chew through
the walls to get out to the mound. He's gonna
be sweating and snorting and everything else. He's gonna be
looking at you with those weird mismatched eyes of his
and staring you down. And so that part portion of

(19:32):
Max Schurzer is gonna show up tonight to try to
do damage against the Mariners lineup. Unfortunately he just or
fortunately for us, unfortunately for him, he just doesn't bring
the Max Scherzer talent that he once had. I mean,
this is somebody that's forty years old. He has not
had a quality start since August fourteenth. That's seven straight

(19:57):
starts where he's not produce seeing results that the Toronto
Blue Jays needed to see in order to put him
into their American League Divisional Series rotation.

Speaker 6 (20:08):
He didn't even make the roster.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
So this is somebody that certainly is very accomplished, but
it's been a long time since Max Scherzer has been
Max Scherzer, and I hope he doesn't show up tonight.

Speaker 8 (20:20):
Right And when you say it's been since August what nineteenth?
Is that what we said?

Speaker 5 (20:25):
See he's had a quality start you're talking. I mean
those most previous starts September twenty fourth, back in the
regilar season, five innings, ten hits and gave it four runs,
so not good, not atrocious.

Speaker 8 (20:38):
The one before that two thirds of an inning, seven runs.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
So we're talking not only is he not cy youngish,
he's been so bad that he's not even in a
five game series. You know, we're definitely not going to
use him now seven game series, Okay, they don't have
five starters that you feel good about like some teams do.
And so yeah, this is one where he's forty one

(21:03):
years old. Things don't come in there the same way.
You definitely don't have I mean, very few people are
like Nolan Ryan that still are unbelievably dominant late into
their career. Typically you watch guys, I mean, watch Kershawn,
you just watch a bunch of guys.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
They're just not the same.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
As they get up, the effectiveness of the actual pitch,
the individual individual pitch is not as good, and then
your ability to locate it and change speeds and snap
things off in the late life, all that stuff changes
a little bit. So this is one where it feels
like it's an advantage for us, but you still have
to go out and take advantage of the mistakes.

Speaker 8 (21:41):
Right.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
He's a lot of times old guys that had crazy
dominant stuff they have a hard time figuring out how
to pitch to less contact because they were so good
pitching too contact because it was dominant. I think he's
one of those guys, and yet you're gonna have to
make him pay for it when he makes mistakes.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
All right, let's play some factor fiction set to go
with us.

Speaker 9 (22:00):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's Factor Fiction, probably presented
by Lucky Eagle Casino and hotel where every day feels Lucky.
Fact Door Fiction is on Sports Radio ninety three point

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Right, all right, And I've been torn between two picks,
feeling like a fool. Taking them both would be breaking
all the rules. Good work, Yeah, and so I'm gonna

(22:44):
go ahead and settle on this when it was my
original gut instinct, and after a little research on the
other one, I decided to I'm just gonna go with
the gut. I think the Washington Commanders have not played
like the Washington Commanders so far this season, but I
think we saw enough of them last year that my
expectation is that eventually they are going to start playing

(23:08):
really good football. And now that Jade Daniels is back
from his injury after a couple of weeks, I think
we're going to see the best version of him. They're
coming off a tough loss to the Chicago Bears that
they should have never lost. They're facing a division rival
and the Dallas Cowboys, who are so bad they lost
against the Carolina Panthers last week. I don't think Dallas

(23:29):
is going to get it together this year. I do
think Washington is going to get it together this year,
and I think it starts this week.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
Weather's not going to be a factor.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Yes, they're a road favorite, but they're only giving the
Dallas Cowboys two points.

Speaker 6 (23:45):
I think the Commanders are easily winning this game by
three points or more.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
So I'm going to go ahead and lay the two
points to the broken Dallas Cowboys and I'm going to
take the Washington Commanders. With Jaden Daniels getting into form,
Terry McLaurin coming off of the injury list this week,
I think the Commanders are gonna put their foot in
the ground and start playing like they're capable of playing
this week. So give me Washington on the road at

(24:13):
Dallas giving the Cowboys two points in this game on Sunday,
And That's what I'm riding with for factor fiction.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
I think it's a get right game for the Washington
Commander's offense. Cowboys just can't stop anybody.

Speaker 8 (24:28):
Now.

Speaker 5 (24:28):
There they've been pretty potent scoring, and so I think
it's gonna be a high scoring affair. But I just
don't think that I think Commander's defense can bow up
just enough to keep the Cowboys at bay, and I
just don't know for sure if the Cowboys are gonna
be able to stop the Commander's period.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
I think it's a get right game for their offense.

Speaker 6 (24:44):
All right, if you agree with apparently, Bucky and I
think it's a good pick, Ashley.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
All right, if you agree with the show that's right,
You're going to text fact to four nine four five
one if you disagree, and you'd be the only one
idiots in the world. Fiction two four nine four five one.
That's how the game is played. If you're right and
you're the only one that matters, we enter your name
into a drawing for one thousand dollars cash prize at

(25:11):
the end of the week. The more often you play,
the more right picks that you get, and every single
time you're right, we enter your name into that drawing
for one thousand dollars in cash. The person who has
the most correct picks this year wins ten thousand dollars
playing fact or fiction.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
So you better get on that.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
It's all brought to you by our brand new friends
at Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel where every day feels lucky.
They're going twenty four these days every Friday and Saturday.
Twenty four hour gaming starts November seventh at Luckyeagle dot
com and so in Factor Fiction today, Washington Commanders giving

(25:49):
the Dallas Cowboys two points, even though they'll play it
in Dallas. I think the Commanders win by three points
or more in this contest. If you agree, text fact
to four nine four five one. If you disagree, text
fiction to four nine four five one. Coming up next
on the radio program, The True X Factor in this

(26:10):
American League Championship Series. We got to make a decision
on how he's going to be used, and we got
to do it right now. Sports Radio ninety three point
three k A R F M.

Speaker 6 (26:30):
Hey, guys, we just bitch in game number three. We'd
like to do it again, friend.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
No, f Off, I don't know what you're doing self
park Oh, south Park Canadian impersonation. Okay, Oh gosh, hey, pal,
why don't you lose thirteen to four tonight?

Speaker 6 (26:49):
No, that'd be nice, f Off, Yeah, all right, uh,
Chuck Buck and Ashley with you.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Of course, the Mariners back at action, game number four
of the Perican League Championship Series tonight. It'll be Castillo
versus Max Scherzer. That is going to be your pitching matchup.
We'll talk more about what happened last night, how the
team should react this evening coming up here in our
eight o'clock hour. We still got Abcson the M's coming
your way. Ryan Heeley's going to be joining us today

(27:17):
in the nine o'clock hour. So obviously doing a lot
on the Mariners, But the X factor of this round
of the playoffs is starting to come into focus, and
that is Brian Wu. He made the American League Championship
Series roster. He was our best pitcher during the regular season.
We haven't even been able to use him because of

(27:39):
the peck injury he suffered against the Astros. Maybe the
best pitching performance of the season, maybe the most important
regular season game that we played, was the last time
Brian Wu pitched, and he pitched very effectively. But he's
obviously not one hundred percent and there's a little bit
of a question mark just about how effective he will be.
Having sat on the sidelines for a while and just

(28:02):
pitched bullpens here as of late.

Speaker 6 (28:04):
Well, it's kind of tough.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
I mean, every game is obviously precious, So how do
you enter Brian Wu into this series? When the series began,
there was sort of this tentatively scheduled to pitch game
number five plan for him. But as the last bit
of analysis that I heard before I put my head

(28:25):
on the pillow last night was that maybe Brian Wu
they feel better at this stage using him out of
the bullpen rather than having him start a game in
this playoff.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
I don't think anybody really knows, but I mean, you
have to use them at some point. How are you
going to use Brian.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
Wu going forward? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (28:47):
I think that the idea. Right we heard his press
conference yesterday. Was it right or day before yesterday? When
he was basically talking after he'd thrown the simulated game.
It was ago two days ago there in Toronto, right
through to some live hitters and afterwards basically you hear
a good part where he says I'm ready to rock
and roll. The last box to be checked is when

(29:10):
they tell me when I'm gonna pitch. Then later on
he answered the question of what percentage are you and
he says, well, nobody's one hundred percent right now, everybody's
kind of feeling banged up, Like, oh, I don't want to.

Speaker 8 (29:20):
Hear that that said.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
When I hear those it sends my mind in two
different directions. And then when I see him walking out
to the bullpen, or I hear that he walked out
to the bullpen in the third inning, and Dan says, well,
we just thought that was a good chance for him
to get acclimated, and they maybe were thinking about using
him in that situation. I I don't mind the idea
of at some point in time tonight, tomorrow, the next day,

(29:47):
if you don't pencil him into start. But you find
yourself in a game, you're up three to one and
in the third inny fourth inning, guy gets in a
little bit of trouble and you're like, here's the time
to bring him in, right when you have a little
bit of a lead, and you're like, okay, this is
or it's tide ball game. Maybe the team comes back
and ties it up, whatever it might be. Maybe you

(30:07):
tie the game up and you're like, okay, here a
new game. We don't want to have Castillo go through
this lineup for a third time, Boom, you can bring
him in there in the fifth inning.

Speaker 8 (30:17):
And something like that.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
I think that there's a way in which you could
use him there. I'd like to see him start a game,
But I don't know how that he's feeling, about how
his peck is actually feeling. If they're thinking he can
go on her pitches because he hasn't gotten to do
an actual rehab to this whole thing as far as
ramping up with rehab starts and whatnot.

Speaker 8 (30:36):
So I just don't know how he's feeling. But I'm
wanting him in the game for sure.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
Well I get to use him out of the bullpen,
I think maybe that is the way to go. But
there's no way he's I mean, it's strange enough for him.
I'm not bringing him in the middle of an inning
with traffic on the basis there's no chance that I'm
going to do that.

Speaker 8 (30:51):
With Brian Wu.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
But I will.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
I will say like last night was kind of the
perfect opportunity to use him. You know, in hindsight, I
realize the game moves fast and you didn't really have
time to prepare.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
But to bring him in if you're not. If they're certain,
start him, they're not worried about it.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
Start him in game number five, okay, But if you
do have someone like worries about it and you're not
sure how he's going to react, man at five to two,
trailing five to two, and then you just hand it
over to him in the fifth inning and see how
he performs.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
That probably would have been the best situation.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
I just I think that the George Kirby thing snowballed
on them so quickly that they couldn't get him to
the bullpen and warmed up in an efficient amount of time,
and then once it was six to two and seven
to two, then there's no point.

Speaker 6 (31:48):
Why are you going to use Brian Wu in that situation?
There's obviously a feeling with them that not.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
Only is he going to help us in this series,
not only are going to use him in this year,
he can really help us in this series. And it's
just how do you introduce him back into a rotation
that is pretty damn strong even without him. So it's
a tricky one, there's no question about it. I mean,

(32:16):
this is a territory that he's never ventured into, and
it stinks that We've had to come this far without
him pitching. I want him to be tested in this
series at the very minimum. How you go about that,
I'm really not sure, and I don't think Dan Wilson,
Jerry Depoto, and Justin Hollander are sure either.

Speaker 8 (32:34):
Yeah, and there's.

Speaker 10 (32:35):
Probably no perfect formula to do it. I would like
if the Mariners win tonight, I would like to see
him available in the bullpen tomorrow, like you start Bryce
Miller and then if Miller gets into a little trouble,
you bring Brian will in in the third and fourth
Emmy or something like that, similar to how we use
the bullpen last Friday, Right, Because at this point, if

(32:56):
you win tonight tomorrow, you're trying not to go back
to Canada, so you're pulling out all.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
It's very funny that you say it that way, And
maybe we should spill this conversation over into our next
segment because up three to one might be an opportunity
to experiment with this. But as you said, I don't
want to go back to Toronto. Like every single game now,
we probably punted the one game that we had a

(33:22):
little bit of leeway on. Now it feels like even
with a three to one lead, winning Game number five
still feels important, and not giving them momentum, and certainly
not giving them momentum heading back home. So it just
it's all just very tricky. It is all very tricky, Brian.

(33:43):
If you've never gotten hurt, we would never had to
deal with this. Thanks a lot, Brian, stupid pecks. All right,
we'll roll this conversation into our next segment. We'll recap
for you game number three and how it affects the
rest of the series. Sports Radio ninety three point three
