Devils Sports Radio three point three.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It is good a j R f L Seattle number
one on your car radio pre set and the new
and improved i Art radio app free never sounded so good.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Excited for the opportunity, So yeah, uh, I think it's
a I guess that's a great opportunity. And obviously you
know plush this one. You know been been here before
and the and uh you know around before. So I
try to take that to our advantage and and come
out ready to go tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
I love the team down for sure. Wanted to win
it tonight and I have a great opportunity, but it's
on me. But the team's got a ton of play.
I think I believe we're gonna bounce back like we've
done all year.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
And it's a game seven tomorrow. And obviously you th today,
how difficult is that to sort of be sitting and
watching and not being able to help my cycling.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Yeah, as it started to get pretty much one shot
with was today.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Uh, obviously we wanted to make it happen lunch and
be done with it, but just didn't do my job.
I'll show up in sporteen tomorrow and I know a
lot of guys in this room that have a ton
of fight, they're gonna step up tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
So I think they're gonna pick me up big time.
Where do you think the mental fortitude of this team.
Speaker 6 (01:11):
Is right now?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
I mean it's Game seven.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I think everyone's gonna come in tomorrow the same as.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
We came in the start of the postseason. We just
want to win every single day, every inning, every single pitch,
and have fun while doing so, even if we're down.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
No, there's no kind of give up attitude.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
We're just we're really resilient and it's going to be
a fun day tomorrow. We're all excited for it. Well,
tomorrow is today now, Game seven today, five o'clock. George
Kirby versus Shane Bieber about everyone, Like the old line
from The Professional when Gary Oldman's like, give me everyone, everyone, sir, everyone,
(01:54):
I like that. We gotta find that clip.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I want to play it.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, that's what it's gonna be like tonight. You heard
from cal there, you heard from Logan there, Logan really
taking responsibility. Let's pick him up. He's so nice. Let's
pick up Logan who did not have a good performance
last night and maybe shouldering too much of the responsibility
for last night six to two loss. But that's where
(02:18):
we set. Game number seven of the American League Championship
Series tonight in Toronto. Loser goes home, the winner goes
to the World Series to meet the Los Angeles Dodgers
starting on Friday. Greg Bell's going to join us here
in a moment. Let me rip through your frost brewed
cors Light choose chill headlines. Sounders went over the over
(02:39):
New York City two to one on Saturday. They now
know that they are going to start their playoff Monday
week from today at Minnesota against Minnesota United. Tomorrow is
the start of the NBA season, but who has time
to talk about it? In the NHL Cracking back in
action Tonight on this road trip, they'll be in Philadelphia.
They'll drop the pucket four o'clock against the Flyers. Got
(03:00):
you covered here on the flagship KJR. They're off to
a three to zero and two start, and apparently I've
decided to play all of their games in overtime and
even shootouts. That's what they're going to do for the
entire season.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Good plan.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Michigan got excuse me, Michigan mauled the Huskies on Saturday,
so you dub fails to get that big signature win
on the road under Jed Fish, it still is out there, lingering.
Michigan jumped into the top twenty five. Obviously, the Huskies
did not receive votes. Meanwhile, there was a shakeup in
college football, couple of undefeated teams, including number two Miami,
(03:36):
losing over the weekend. Indiana is now the new number two,
trailing only Ohio State atop the polls. National Football League,
it felt like separator week in the NFL. Some contenders
and pretenders met up and they were separated by the
outcomes of some blowouts on Sunday. And of course Mike
(03:57):
McDaniel is on job watch there in Miami. But the
week is not over. Tonight two Monday night football games,
so one will feature Detroit and Tampa Bay maybe in
the conversation for the do best teams in the NFC.
The other involves our Seahawks hosting the Houston Texans. To
join us to talk about it is our Seahawks insider
(04:17):
Greg Bell lots to do here today. What do you
think Game seven? What's your gut feel?
Speaker 7 (04:24):
Man? Great, biggest game in Maren's history. I think George
Kirby has a short hook to say the least I
would have. I'd like to see Luis Castilla started games
like this. Like I said that earlier in the series.
I think Castilla is going to enter quickly early in
the game and he could be a big week key
for them. Man Carrero, he's a problem. That's that's a problem.
(04:50):
I say, they do it the hell this is. This
team is desite everybody anyway. It was never gonna be easy.
They were going, he's gonna do it the hard way.
I said, they do it. What do you say?
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Yeah, well, I mean I think they most certainly can.
Speaker 8 (05:04):
It's got to go out next to you obviously, play
a cleaner game than they saw yesterday. Yeah, when you're
watching that, I mean, you chalk that up to nerves
just I don't know, just just natural that happens in baseball.
What's your thoughts on how they played so sloppy.
Speaker 7 (05:20):
Yeah, some of it.
Speaker 9 (05:21):
Has to be nerves right there in the customs and
something they've never done before. And they talked about it
after Game five in the clubhouse. They were talking about it. Yeah,
we know we've never been here and we're not shout
away from that. We know that, and then Juli Rodriguez
talked openly about that. So it wasn't just another game,
but a lot of games that happens, just in a
crucible like that. When it happens, it gets magnified and
(05:43):
then momentum and crowd and Toronto.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Just butchers every mistake you make. I think all that
had to do with it. But I would hope that
with some of it was nerves and that's not gonna
get any less. Nervous attens tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yeah, but you know, whenever they get back in the corner,
it's usually when they play their best. As you pointed
to a little bit earlier. It just it's a strange team.
They don't do anything easy, that's for sure. No, no,
how are you going to manage this today? So you're
in Toronto? Now, what's going on with Seahawks coverage from
the news.
Speaker 7 (06:16):
Well, the News Tribune decided that I'm gonna and I
get it. The Seahawks beat writers.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
So I'm going to cover the Yeah, okay, I got.
Speaker 7 (06:23):
Back at three in the morning. I'm gonna cover the
Seahawks game. And yeah, if if the Mariners pull this off,
I'll be in Dodger Stadium and this weekend.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Okay, look at that? Do you like that? Are you
having fun with it? Being the ide on Sanders some sports.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
Coverage, It's fun. I'd rather be in Toronto, honestly, personally?
Is it just a sports fan and a person who
appreciates big events. I'd try to be in Game seven,
but I get it. It's my first job. And there's
some faith in those the news tribunes saying, well, just
go to the World Series, Greg, We'll just save it
for that.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Okay, okay, all right, it's fun.
Speaker 7 (07:01):
No, it's fun, and I love Toronto and I love Yeah,
it's great. And I've got to actually spend Saturday in
most of Sunday in Boston with my daughter, head of
the Charles Regatta, which is amazing event. Three hundred thousand
people come to watch. It's amazing on the bridges and
it was a beautiful New England weekends. And I'm very fortunately.
(07:22):
I love my job and I love the news tribute
for send I mean, give me opportunities to cover great,
great things.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
That Friday night game, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (07:29):
That Friday game is probably the second loudest building I've
been in.
Speaker 7 (07:34):
The first was the Kingdom for Edgar's double, but that
was close to that with the with the Grand Slam.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
That was remarkable. Yeah, some good stuff. And we're we're yeah,
we were so fixed here on a Monday morning on
what just most recently happened. We spent a little bit
of time on Friday. But man, was that a great night?
Speaker 7 (07:52):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
And man, we're May and Her fans fired up afterwards.
All right, Well, you know, I.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
Want to say what I don't bry it that it
doesn't matter if they don't win, but that that.
Speaker 10 (08:01):
Grand Slam didn't matter and none of that.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
No one will remember that, no way. This team, every game,
every game they win at this point is team history
and that will always be the Geno Slam will go
down in Seattle sports history like Sherman's tip and Edgar's double.
And yeah, if they don't go to the World Series,
it doesn't mean that that didn't happen and that the
(08:24):
building didn't shake, because it did. The stadium literally shook.
I was sitting in it, and it was the loudest,
one of the loudest moments in Seattle sports history. And yeah,
I wouldn't just say wow, it's a wasteed win. Tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, yeah, you're right, You're right, and we need to
give it its due because that was a remarkable, remarkable moment,
no question about it. So is the ground going to
shake tonight? You're a looming field. It's a Monday night football.
I mean, you got the baseball team kind of going
up against it for part of the game tonight. But
no doubt Mike McDonald wants to get back this legendary
(08:59):
home home field advantage. Yeah, they've turned into a great
road team here under his watch, but I'm sure that
he wants he wants to match that fervor tonight against
the Texans.
Speaker 7 (09:12):
I think it'll it'll only shake if the Manors win.
During the first or second quarter of the Seahawks game,
there'll be a lot of people tuning into their phones
and watching the game, one eye on the Seahawks and
one and a half eyes on the Manor. They're nine
and eleven at home. The Seahawks are since twenty twenty three,
nine and eleven.
Speaker 10 (09:32):
I mean, that's like the New York Jets might have
a record probably worth well, it's.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Nine and eleven without having a bad team, Like that's
the that's what you got.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
Ten win team exactly, and the team that before that
had nine wins and exactly, you can say it's inexplicable.
When they don't play well, they lose. And a lot
of times they don't play well on defense at home.
Look at the Tampa Bay game. We've talked about this.
They've yet to play a complete game.
Speaker 10 (10:00):
They haven't run the ball that would sure help Houston tonight.
Mike McDonald talked about this this week in Houston's defense
happened to lead the league and points allowed, and they
just went to Baltimore before they're buying forty four to ten.
They beat the Ravens, and we know the Ravens have problems,
but McDonald, you for sure, has given full attention to
that and shown his team.
Speaker 7 (10:21):
The tape of that. But they only give up twelve
points a game on defense. And McDonald's saying that their
pass rush is unique. It is different than what the
Seahawks especially do, is that they run vertically straight up
the field.
Speaker 10 (10:34):
They have Will.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
Anderson and the former Minnesota Viking his name is escaping
right at the top of him. As soon as I
wrote about him, lest Daniel Hunter, Daniel Hunter, thank you,
and former pro bowler with the Vikings. He's leading the team.
He's got four sacks and five games. Will Anderson has
three sacks. Those guys run straight up the field, so
(10:56):
they're not.
Speaker 11 (10:56):
Worried about rush gap integrity or the gap they might
have the lanes, how wide the lane might be inside
of them from the quarterback to step, and they're running
straight up the field and trying to have the offensive
tackle beat you to the spot basically.
Speaker 10 (11:10):
And so McDonald's was saying, how that's got his attention,
the way they passed rush so vertically up the field
so quickly, And that's what puts the big onus on
Abe Lucas and Charles Cross outside of tackles. I would
expect them, especially with Lucas, to help chip him with
tight end. Might see two tight ends a lot when
they throw tonight to help Lucas in particulars have some
(11:33):
troubles in one on one pass rush. But that's a key,
big key tonight is how they.
Speaker 7 (11:37):
Handle the vertical, quick upfield pass rush.
Speaker 10 (11:40):
That the Texans have.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
And I keep saying it, but they're going to try
to run the ball, and they're gonna try to run
the ball against all defenses. Good in this one we'll
see if tonight's tonight they finally get the running game
going consistently. When I look at numbers and see that
they're twenty fourth in the NFL, they seem worse than
that against the run rushing the ball, don't. It doesn't
seem like I mean, there's only been one one hundred
(12:04):
yard rushing day by a Seahawk and that was way
back in Week two for Kenneth Walker against the Steelers.
At seventy nine of his one hundred and five happened
in the second half that night that day in Pittsburgh.
They're gonna keep running. It is tonight the night they
finally get some traction running the ball against a really
active pass defensive pass rush for Houston.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Do they have to be successful at it?
Speaker 8 (12:27):
Or is just showing it, you know, being consistent in
showing it and trying it enough. I mean, because the
numbers are starting to look like that. You know, Sam
Darnold's having a good year and he's doing really well
in play action passing. So is it necessary for them
to be successful running or do they just have to
keep being committed to it and making sure that it's honored.
Speaker 7 (12:48):
I think it is Bucky and they say it is
They say they they not only they want to, they
need to because how they're built. It's what the system
is predicated on. You look at their play actions and passes,
and well just quick game for instance, in bubble screens
or a quick slam patterns. Is there anything that's a
(13:09):
quick game pass game. What has happened often is that
the line of scrimmage is just there's no room. There's
no room to run, there's often no room to throw.
The teams sometimes stack the box against them and added
after safety down to the box. That is some of
the reasons, in simple terms, why they've thrown the ball
(13:30):
down the field. There's more room down there, and they've
had time throwing the ball because the offensive line has
done pretty well in pass protection. You could make the
case that they had what are you talking about, Well,
they don't need to run the ball. Look at Donald's
are almost seventy percent passer and he's nine almost ten
yards a throw, which is leaving the league. Well, I
(13:54):
don't think this is sustainable against San Francisco in the RAMS.
I keep saying this, but they ain't going anywhere till
they beat San Francisco in the Rams and they didn't
beat San Francisco. They should have did. And I hadn't
play the Rams yet, but they're win the division until
they do, and I don't think they can win the division.
Just smoking mere for pretending wink wink to run the ball.
They've got of control games against those teams running the football.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
To me, all right, what's the latest on the injury front.
We got Spoon and Love back to Love and spoonful.
Speaker 7 (14:24):
Nah, he had done that. It looked like middle of
the week. Yeah, they were both back to practice and
then they weren't practicing fully. They were unlimited by the
end of the week, and then they listened them as
questionable for the game tonight. McDonald. We asked him. He
was asked on Saturday after practice, did they have to
practice Witherspoon and Love? Do they have to do a
(14:45):
workout pregame to test these injuries to before they make
the decision, And that's usually the final step of guys
who were really on the cuss and McDonald said no,
which means they've already made up their mind. And I
think Spoon's case, they may not play him because there's
a buy coming up after this game and give him
two weeks off. Love seemed to be the Thursday when
(15:09):
I was out there at practice before the Mariners game,
Love was moving pretty well, and I know it's just
the beginning of practice. He looked though he running fluidly.
Didn't he looked like he was fully participating and started
practice and when I saw him Thursday, So he's playing.
So if you just had to tell, if you put
money down, what would you bet on? What would you
(15:30):
guess that Witherspoon won't play to get the extra two
weeks this weekend next because of the buye that Love
will play all right?
Speaker 1 (15:37):
So what's key tonight?
Speaker 7 (15:40):
The pass rush containing the outside eddresses. I said, I
think they're going to start running the ball at some
point in the season because they're going to commit to
but one of the offensive linemen going to push back.
The defensive is it going to be the number one
scoring defense, the fourth overall defense of the league. That's
their task tonight. That's the key tonight. And then defensively,
(16:03):
c J Stroud. Everyone thinks c J. Stroud has had
a terrible season because they started own three Texans have
won two in a row, and Stroud has eight touchdowns
and three interceptions and as a sixty five plus percent passer,
make him make turnovers. He by pressuring him like any
quarterback who's prone the mistakes, but he is has faked
(16:24):
of turnovers at times. The pass rush had seven sacks
last week against Trevor Lawrence. I don't think they're getting
seven at night. I think that Stroud's going to be
more elusive than Trevor Lawrence was. So I'm expecting something
of a slog of a game both teams and the
team scoring and the Seahawks with some big play by
Donald the Smith and Jigbin the fourth quarter win some
(16:45):
like sixteen thirteen something like that.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Well, it's going to be a memorable evening in Seattle
sports here tonight.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Yeah, no getting around that.
Speaker 7 (16:53):
Yes it is. We already had a memorable month, but yeah,
this is this is unique.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
All right, Greg, thank you, appreciate it, and we will
catch up tomorrow. All right, enjoy the game, all right,
Greg Bell Jet Center joining us right here on Chugubuck
in the mornings. Yes, he's been covering the Mariners postseason
run for the News Tribune and also he will be

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Betty, bring me everyone.
Speaker 7 (18:07):
Ever I've been.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
That's Dan Wilson tonight, Pete, I need everyone ready? What
do you mean everyone?
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Everyone?
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I hope that's the way it is.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Uh, it's a game seven time man, and we are
ready for it. Chuck Powl, Buggy Jacobs, and Ashley Ryan
with you. Factor Fiction comes up at seven thirty five
and tonight after the game, Uh, you can join us
for Seattle's Best postgame Show, Baseball's Best post game show
and we will be broadcasting from Seattle's closest snow call

and it's a big play, so we will specifically tell
(19:05):
you we'll be at Hawk's Peak, the sports bar, which
is fantastic for watching games, and we were surrounded by
Mariner fans good vibe last night. Even though the game
did not turn out the way that we wanted it
to and unfortunately Logan and Cal were sort of at
the heart of it, maybe our two favorite guys on
(19:25):
the entire damn team, maybe in the entire damn world,
Logan Gilbert and Cal Rawley. Logan had another rough outing
and he took all the blame himself. Of course, he
doesn't shoulder at all. Cal probably had the worst game
that he's had this entire season, three strikeouts to double
play at a crucial moment, and error he allowed another
wild pitch. He didn't absorb another wild pitch which.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Led to the air.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
So they both had rough outings. And I had such
high hopes. I mean even the national broadcast kind of
bought into the Logan and Cal drafted together. These guys
are best buddies. They've been on this ride hand in
hand the entire time, former roommates and everything else. Uh,
and here they were the battery for the opportunity to
(20:09):
close out the Alcs and make it to the World
Series for the first time in franchise history. I mean,
the script was written, it was just all there for it,
and are you know, two of our favorite guys leading
the way and it just didn't happen last night.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
Well, it wouldn't have been any fun. I mean that
was Game six, yeah exactly. When you can have a
yeah ror.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
We played in a game six before, Yeah exactly.
Speaker 8 (20:32):
Are a more intense situation And I was only a
pucker last night.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I mean, right until you get to one hundred percent.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
What's the point exactly? I mean, and I think that
they understand that. I think that they understand it. I mean,
it's this is a team. I mean, yeah, I mean
the idea logan Gilbert didn't look like himself and he
hasn't been effective either start in this series. And and
who and you know, col didn't look like himself necessary
(21:00):
either on most of those strikeouts, there was a couple
of them that were well pitched. And yet I just
there's a part of me say, that's the nature of
the Beast. You are going to have games that you
don't look good. Now, mental mistakes based running errors, like
poor approaches that turn into double plays. Those are things
(21:20):
you have to make changes on because you're going against
a team that does figure out how to put the
ball in play, and they do play the game as
far as moving guys over there. They don't live and
die just by the long ball the way that the
Mariners tend to. And so if you're not going to
hit the long ball, and so then you're going to
be finding yourself in you know, really close games or
(21:42):
tight games, low scoring games, then you're putting a lot
of pressure on yourself to pitch really, really well. You
then have to pick it behind the guy that's out
there pitching when he does let the ball get put
in play. And and they just didn't do anything. It
was it was kind of the overall cause and effect.
There was a whole bunch of things that were done wrong,
(22:03):
and that's where you find yourself on the losing end
and really never feel like you were in it.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Of course, the Dodgers will wait. Game one of the
World Series will be on Friday, So whoever wins tonight,
we'll meet the Dodgers starting on Friday. They look like
a runaway truck right now, the Los Angeles Dodgers. They're
pitching as the healthiest it's been all season long. Show
Hey is on his game pitching wise, and obviously put
on a show Friday night. But Sarah Lang, who is
(22:30):
the prized researcher at MLB Network and also ESPN, she
mentioned something last night in her research. Apparently, in the
history of Major League Baseball, there have been four times
where one of the league championship series was a sweep
and the other one went to Game seven. Four times
(22:50):
in the history of Major League Baseball have we had that?
And all four times the team that swept the previous
round lost in the World Series.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Make interesting? How about that? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Yeah you think that? Okay, a dominant team is a
waiting just like the For example, the eighty eight A's
that lost to Kirk Gibson and the Dodgers. You think
the dominant team is sitting there just waiting and licking
its chops. But in the history of baseball, that team
that came away with the sweep has never beaten the
team that went the distance in the league championship series.
(23:29):
And so we got that to think about tonight. All right,
let's play some factor fiction. Where's that to go?
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Glad you're with us, it's your shot at our weekly
thousand bucks and the ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's
fact door fiction, probably presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and
hotel where every day feels lucky. Fact door Fiction is
on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
All right, Bucky's a pick today. I have a feeling
we had a tear ruble week. I know I went
oh and two.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Yeah four, oh win all right? Good, at least we.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Didn't go winlessh and five is for the losers. One
and four just at of off week. We're all right,
Bucky's picked today. Then let's keep it going. At least
on your side of things. Who do you like tonight?
Speaker 8 (24:25):
I think this weekend felt like we got a little
bit more information, and there's some decent team. There's some
good teams, some decent teams, and some really bad teams.
I think one of the really bad teams is the
New Orleans Saints. They're going up against the Buccaneers. The
Bucks have to come to New Orleans to play, and
yet they're only given five and a half points.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
I think they beat them by a couple of touchdowns.
Speaker 8 (24:46):
So give me the Buccaneers minus five and a half
on the road at New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
You're already taking the Buccaneers even though they still have
a game to play.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Oh, look at that. He just has that much confidence.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Okay, taking next week's games. I don't want to take
either one of the ones tonight.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
All right, So Tampa Bay giving five and a half
to New Orleans in New Orleans, yep, okay, all right,
that is the selection here. If you agree with the pick,
what you're gonna do is you gonna text fact fact
to four nine four five one. If you disagree with
the selection, text fiction to four nine four five one.
(25:22):
If you are right, we will enter your name into
a drawing at the end of the week. So this
is the first name that goes into the drawing right here,
you're watching it, you're listening to it live. You're gonna
enter you into a drawing for one thousand dollars in cash.
We are going to play four times per day, once
per show, five all five days this week, so you
(25:43):
can get up to twenty entries into that drawing for
one thousand dollars in cash. But it starts right now.
Do you think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are six points
or more better on the road against the New Orleans Saints.
If so, you're gonna go ahead and text fact to
four nine four five one. If you disagree with the selection,
text fiction two four nine four five one. And it
(26:04):
is all brought to you by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel,
where every day feels lucky. They're going twenty four at
Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. That's right back to twenty
four hour gaming every Friday and Saturday starting November seventh,
which is right around the corner. Slots and jackpots all
(26:25):
night long. Details at Luckyeagle dot com. Again, the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers on the road next week against New Orleans.
They're getting five and a half points to the Saints.
That means the Bucks must win by six points or
more for Bucky to be accurate. If you agree with
the pick text fact to four nine, four to five
to one, fiction to four nine, four to five one.
(26:45):
If you disagree, your next opportunity to play is at
eleven thirty five this morning with MJ and with Chris
Kidd coming up next. Yes, we are going to talk
more about game seven. There is a lot to break
down starting at eight o'clock. Also, Ryan Healy's gonna be
with us this morning at eight thirty. But Greg Bell
is right, we should not not we should not ignore
(27:09):
what happened here Friday in game number five, a game
that will live on Forever Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ R f M another two too, that's another
spend trigger the other it matters. We've game five, six
(27:47):
to two. We spent pretty much our entire first hour
today recapping the frustration of game number six, and we're
gonna spend our entire clock hour kind of previewing the
exhilaration of game number seven. But man, we got to
tuck somewhere into this radio program this morning, the unbelievable
(28:12):
moment that was Game five and Gino Swarez's grand slam
that it gave the team the lead at six to two,
trailed most of that game and then come back there
in the bottom of the eighth inning with a five spot.
Just incredible. You just heard the call from Fox Sports.
We were there in the building. The place was shaking.
(28:35):
That was one of the great moments in Seattle sports history,
authored by Geno Suarez, and all the build up leading
up to it and then the fanfare afterwards, I mean
the energy that came bursting through the doors. We went
over like a half inning early to get set up
for the postgame show and then to watch one miron
Er fan. I mean there were fifty year old men
(28:57):
coming out and then they're jumping on each other, jumping
on us, you know everything else. It was fantastic Friday night.
Speaker 8 (29:03):
I mean, it's the biggest game, you know, to date
until today. I think today kind of trumps it just
because of the impact and how much is weighing on it.
And yet that one was after you went to their place,
lose to at your place. That pivotal game, which is
a Game five that then does allow one team the
luxury of playing a subpar ball game and still having
(29:26):
a chance to advance.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
To the World Series.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
It's as big as we've ever had here in Seattle
Mariner's history, in my opinion, And to find yourself down
and all of the little things that you had to do,
that little moments in the game, the double play where
that line drive to Naylor, you doubled up what's his
name at second base, that other double play that that
(29:51):
cow turned, all of that, getting out of that jam
with the bases loaded, and you get out of that
whole thing. There were so many things that were crazy.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
It's just so much.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
I got the tension that was in the air, and
obviously the crowd was just on fire for what's going on.
And then for cal to hit the game tying home run,
that moonshot that almost hits the roof. And then Gino,
the guy that really hadn't checked in for the most
part throughout the postseason town.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
In the regular season. Yeah, since he's come here.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
Yeah yeah, and yet he he checked in with the
first pitch, a home run that he'd hit earlier that
kind of gave us the lead. Then we relinquished that
lead for him to come up their bases loaded, nowhere
to put him have a good ab. It wasn't just
a first pitch, you know, hacking and you run into
one a good ab and to go opo grand slam.
I mean that place it was literally shaking mm.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
And it was awesome.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Yeah, it was incredible. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
I was watching at home while hosting eight other children
for an eleven year old sleepover birthday party. I had
warned Palmer, Hey, by the way, just so you know,
Palmer A the great, there's a chance that the Mariners
game is going to be on in the living room
if playing on Friday night, so you just got to
be prepared. She's like, oh, that's fine, that's fine. Well,
they were running around screaming. Then a couple moms had
(31:07):
stayed to watch the game, and we'd be like when
when Gino got his first home run and when Cal
got his home run, and then they'd all.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Come running in.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Yeah, they'd all jump up and down, and then they'd leave,
and then they'd then they'd hear something exciting, and then
they'd all come running in, and then they'd all jump
up and.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Down and then they'd leave. Yeah. I was like, I know,
I committed to this. We have to do it, But
I am locking you guys in this room. I should have. Yeah,
here's some snacks and some drinks. Yeah, and here's some
here's I got a honey pot for you, perfect little
portable toilet for you all. I don't even want to
(31:43):
see you. We're watching the game.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Well, and that's the nice thing is at least no
one came in was like trying to have a dance
party in front of the TV. Or they were all
get kicked out. Oh, they were playing elsewhere until something
exciting happened, then they'd come running in.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Well, I really think that that cow moment, you know,
the one that brought rain that home run, I don't
know if I've ever seen a home run that was
longer in doubt. I mean, the anticipation of it, coupled
with the height of it, It was like, is this
gonna leave or not? Eventually gravity did reveal to us
(32:18):
that it was far enough, just far enough, And I
think it kind of unlocked that entire inning. Certainly, Geno's
gonna have his place in Mariner's history forever with the
Grand Slam. But I kind of think that, like the
Cow moment is what it might have even been a
bigger moment because you had to have the run to
try to tie that thing up, and then I think
the rest of the lineup kind of relaxed after that.
(32:40):
Now Softy brought up in our post game show after
he spit in my mouth, Oh you liked it. Yeah,
it was accidental, but he did it.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
It happened.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
No, no, it didn't really ask for it, kind of
got ambushed. Frankly, would you ask for it next time? No, no, no, no, no,
never asked for before. We'll never ask for the But
he brought up like he thought maybe the mood had
changed with the hit by pitch of George Springer, and
we haven't really discussed this yet. Look, John Schneider, forty
(33:11):
thousand people weren't cheering that George Springer was hurt. There
were some, Yeah, there were some. But when you have
that many people inside the building and there's that much
intensity and there's that much of a downtime, and they
already don't like the guy.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
All right.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
I don't like the fact that we booed an injured player.
I don't think anybody should ever do that or cheer
an injured player. There was a little bit of mixture
of the two. I don't like that, but it happens
almost with every fan base at some point, and I
love that people found examples of when Toronto fans did
it to opposing players, not just in baseball but in
(33:49):
a lot of different sports. So don't get on your
high horse hypocrites, you know. And John Schneider trying to
stir something that really wasn't there. And then last night
Springer take it's a high pitch inside from Carlos Vargas,
and all the fans were like, why are they throwing him? Now?
Oh he did was good hit by a pitch. Hey,
Carlos Vargas has no idea where the ball is going.
(34:11):
That was so unintentional that I can't even express it
to you. But John Schneider's trying to use that, I
guess has a little bit of fuel whatever it takes
to get them across the finish line. But I think
being a little melodramatic. If you ask me, you're not
even the best John Schneider in sports.
Speaker 8 (34:30):
Yeah, and that's tough to do. It's not that common
of a name. But I do think it was completely
overblown the whole There's, yeah, some people that don't like him,
I don't like him. He was an astro that he
was part of the cheating scandal. I don't I don't
ever wish injury upon someone that said I don't have
one bit of remorse about him getting hurt.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
He didn't get injured. He got hurt.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
It hurt him, Ali, you'll get over it.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
It hit him in the knee.
Speaker 8 (34:57):
If it hit him in the face and people were
cheery or whatever, I'd be like, come on, you got
to check yourself. That's that's a totally different hit him
in the knee, and so get off your high horses, right,
nobody's too good to be able to call everybody out
for something you think is not nice. I agree, it's
not nice to do it. And yet at the same time,
(35:17):
when you find yourself in George Springer situation, you're gonna
have people that just dislike you period. Even though he
might be a really good dude. I'm sure that he
probably is a really good dude and a good teammate.
But it's sports hate, and so he got hitting the
knee it is. It wasn't a grenade. I don't think
Brian wu switched the baseball into a grenade that blew
(35:38):
his knee up. He played the very next game, so yeah,
tell me it's kind of stop.
Speaker 7 (35:44):
Well.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
And also I'm sure that some of the cheering to
start was that he got hit from Blue Jays fans
because now he's on base, which you I mean, Randy
got hit and everyone even Randy cheered when he got
hit and went to first base and so and then
the other part of the booing, too was Blue Jays
fans booing Brian wu for hitting him. So it was
a combination of things, and John Schneider decided to make
it all about people being He decided to George Springer stir.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Up the hornets nest in his press press conference afterwards,
I'll say this, maybe you know, George Springer, I mean,
if he would have really been fortunate, he would have
got to first base and found that there was a
barber shop there so that they could fix that horrible
hair of his. All right, coming up next, we're going
(36:26):
to preview game number seven, and Ryan Heally's going to
be joining us at eight point thirty. We'll get his
thoughts on how the series is unfolding. Here we go,
