Speaker 1 (00:02):
Your own for Husky Football probably presents our weekly visit
with a voice of the Dogs.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Cam Cleveland. O.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yeah, let's go run to you by Warrior Injury Long,
Battle Tested. Now here's chucking buck with a former Husky
tight end on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
R F M HI.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yes, our segment every week with Cam Cleveland, brought to
you by Warrior Injury Long, Battle Tested. And yes, uh
you dub gets ready to try and bounce back from
that lost to Michigan, but they're going to have to
face a real titan in the college football world. One
hundred years of dominance. Uh, the Illinois fighting a line.
I grown up in the shadow of that. You know
(00:44):
that specter. Oh, it was very intimidating. Dick Bodkis, Red Grange,
Jason Verdusco, all the list of legends, just on and
on and look.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Up dominance and see if it means what I thought it.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Needs to be really average for about a century, then yeah,
ill is dominant then So anyway, Cam's shaking in his
boots joining us now on the program, the former Husky
tight end, Cam Cleveland, How are you, sir?
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I'm doing okay, gentlemen, I apologize for last week. I
was emotionally distracted with the meritors and travel, and this
week I'm here to make it up, even though I'm
still emotionally distraught. But we'll get over it, all right,
we will overcome all right?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Did what were you doing Monday? What were you doing
Monday as you were watching the game? And how did
you really feel when that thing came to an end?
Speaker 5 (01:38):
I was sitting at about the twenty yard line watching
the Seahawks at at the game. The whole time, I
had my phone opened and two guys were on the
radio in front of me and my phone was behind
so I'm like, shut up, let me watch, And then
then he would tell me. And I'm just emotionally distraught
at every pitch every time. My heart rate was not
(01:59):
that high in quite some time. But yes, I'm still.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
A little bit.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
I'm I'm reeling a little bit. But like all of
us Mariner fans, we we're never gonna quit, man. Yeah,
as long as I'm upright, I'm never quitting, never, never
quitting in the belief.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Yeah, well understandably. So would you have made the same
pitching changes now that you think back about.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
It, You know, I I don't know if I would
have thrown that hanging curveball that that uh Wu did.
That's that's the I mean, you're thinking, you're thinking hard,
hard heart. I mean, okay, we don't have to go
into baseball analysis. Nobody checks into your can talk baseball,
but just don't slow the ball down right there? Just
and that in Springer's Springer, I've hated him since the Astros.
(02:41):
He can pound sand with someone hitting the garbage can
with him. I don't know, Springer, he's good, he's good.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, maybe that maybe there was a garbage can related
for that Bizardo pitch. All right, well let's talk about
let's talk some Muskies football. How deflating was it Saturday?
With I think an ex expectation that, man, this is
a really good chance to get ourselves a signature win
on the road in the big top ten conference against
(03:07):
one of the top brands in the entire sport. I
don't care if they're a little bit down to be
able to pull out this victory, gets us in the
top twenty five rankings next week, all of that stuff
on the line, and then to just play as poorly
as they did.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
How much did that deflate cam Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Well, I was, guys. I was more interested in seeing
what the team was going to do. Of course, understanding
how slow the start was. And we went on the
road last time, and you play at Maryland and it
takes a fourth quarter comeback, I'm like, all right, they've listen,
they've they've learned. You're facing a big time opponent. You're
facing a freshman quarterback, a true freshman quarterback, and Bryce
(03:45):
under was very good player for a freshman, but our
quarterback is better. As I watched the game evolve, I
looked at mistakes. I looked at things that you could
see from false starts and critical situations, early turnovers. But
you were in those moments, and what good teams you
can't You can't. There's no way you can allow yourself
(04:06):
to have those mistakes and expect to win football games,
especially on the road. So the disappointment to me was
the finishing and things that are glaring and some of
the mistakes that need to be cleaned up. I mean,
Coach Walters talked about it in the press conference, Coach
Fish has talked about it's not anything that they don't
understand and see you would like to see that be
(04:26):
able to be taken care of on the road in
those big games. And right now it's the big game
loom of not being able to win one on the
road against a big, a quality opponent, and Michigan is
a quality opponent, and those are the games that matter
if you want to make the college football playoffs.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Cam I was watching, I watched majority of the first
quarter before I had to go to a really thrillian
eight U soccer game, and then I came back and
watched the rest of it. Yeah, it was amazing, I
tell you what. And yet when I was walking out
the door, I was kind of underwhelmed by the way
in which I had seen him play. As a matter
(05:03):
of fact, the last play that I saw was a
demon Williams past that really should have been a pick six,
and the guy dropped it. He did not play his
best game. I mean, what did you see out of
him that concerns you?
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Well, I don't know this for certain. So guys, like
I said, I don't spend time in the training room,
I don't ask the coaches, I don't talk about injuries.
It goes back to my feeling about what coach Belichick
always taught us and said, we don't talk about injuries,
but I do think something there. I don't know it
in my heart, but I feel like Demond had had
a few things that he was protecting. Because he took
(05:38):
over a game in the previous week of five hundred
and thirty eight yards of offense, which was incredible, and
then in this game, Michigan is a good defense. They're
not Ohio State defense. They're very good up front. But
there are moments that I looked and I did not
see him get out of the pocket as often. I
saw him a little more hesitant. They had one design
(05:59):
run for in the first quarter and it got blown up.
The throws, You're right, some of the throws needed to
be a little bit more placed. But I'm not asking
him to be perfect. And here's here's my my fact
analysis of it. When I c five five eleven, five
to ten and I stood next to demand, he's not massive.
(06:21):
He's not six', five he's not peyton. Man he he's
not some of these guys that are. Big for him
to be great in the, pocket it has to be,
well it has to be efficient and. Quick it cannot
be a young. Man and as you watch, him he
gets a lot of. Depth even in gun he has
to get depth because he has to have throwing lanes and.
(06:42):
Vision this is facts and. Physics, okay hype and vision
is a big deal to be able to win from the.
Pocket if you're going to be a smaller, quarterback the
ball has to be efficiently out. Quicker it has to
be in thousand and, one thousand and, two and at
that point he needs to be out of the pocket
either moving, right moving, lefter sliding up and getting out of.
(07:03):
There and in those moments when he, holds it's just
the coverage is. There he can't see through those. Windows
and that's not a downtrodden, things not saying he can't
be great in. Elite but his talent is his speed and.
Athleticism that is his unbelievable. Talent so that has to
mean if he's not taking advantage of, that something's.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Bothering Cam cleveland is with us Former husky tight end
and current color analysts During husky's broadcast right here all
the Flagship Sports radio ninety three point three KJR.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Fm help me.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
To explain how you have an offensive minded head coach
and yet and this team has, scored you, know thirty
eight points Against rutgers, recently twenty four points Against.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Maryland, recently they've.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Shown some offensive, potency but it never gets started. Early
zero points at halftime Against. Maryland haven't scored in the
first quarter in the last four. Games why does this,
team with such a talented group of skill players at
the very, minimum get off to such slow starts offensively every?
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Week, well, well, again these are premium, questions AND i can.
SPECULATE i could give my, opinion and that's probably why
you have me on. Here BUT i look at the
loss at left. Tackle the loss at left Tackle carver
is a big. Deal h and then you Lose John,
mills AND I Poki fina is very very. Good he
can he can handle. It but WHEN i watch this,
(08:32):
team the most concerning the layering thing that stand out
to me is not one hundred yards From Jonah coleman SINCE. C.
Davis that to me is it's a travesty because you
can't get the run game going on the. Inside and
if you watch the, runs and if you see Coach
fish and how he calls, offense it is a pro.
Offense remember The remember when he, said come be a.
(08:53):
Pro it's not about just being a. Pro it's about
we're going to train you on what it's like to
be in AN nfl atmosphere with an n. Offense, well
other other places and other things called different styles of.
Offense Ohio. State you Watch, michigan there's a lot of
move there's a lot of, uh what do we called,
boots there's active, cuts tight ends from the. Flat that
(09:15):
is not professional. Offense that is What oregon runs, also
And i'm not saying one is, better but if you
can't run the football in that style of, offense you
don't set up your play. Action WHEN i talk about Coach,
bishon that means every one of the inside runs That
Jonah coleman does are inside quick inside zone. Handoffs those
(09:36):
aren't play. Action and then when you get an eye,
formation you Lost, eldridge who is your fullback f you
Lost Quinton, moore and now you have no blocking tight,
end no disrespect to what you're looking. At And decker
De graft is a very good vertical scene pass catching tight.
End she is not quinting more on the. Edge so
(09:58):
now you lose your edge, blocker which is massive when
you talk about running outside zones and power because he
can handle the stand up edge or a three technique
or a five technique on his. Own he doesn't need
double team. Help eldridge goes, out who's your third team tight,
end who's your F so now you lose your inside runs,
lead so everything's down TO qb run qby draw inside
(10:22):
zone With Jonah. Coleman and he lost your two left offensive.
Linemen So i've a state the. Obvious, guys when you
lose your best, players you go to adapt and adjust
on how you call. Offense and Coach fish is trying
to adjust very quickly during the game and find rhythms,
somehow some.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Way another thing that was kind of popped out AS
i was watching it. Back it was just the way
in which they ran against The husky. DEFENSE i mean it, Was,
yeah they end up having one hundred and eighty seven.
Yards one of The Jordan, marshall who's their backup running,
back goes for one thirty. Three but there wasn't a
bunch of huge long, runs. Right typically sometimes you can
(11:02):
explain a big number like that one hundred and thirty
three yards, rushing BUT i mean as long as one
was fourteen yards out of twenty five. Carries so it
was more of to, me like the wiellbreaking type of.
Runs is there a concern that there's just not enough beef?
Upfront or are they not playing? Well is the concept?
Wrong why are they giving up as much as they
are on the, ground because that seems to be really.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Hurtful, yeah and it's death by one thousand. Cuts but
that is a design of What big ten football. Is
Coach fish did a great job in his press conference, explaining,
guys big ten football is sixty to sixty five Plays
Old pac Twelve gentleman was eighty five. Plays, okay so
(11:44):
that's another four to five. Possessions if you do the
map on four to five possessions in, tempo excuse, me
that equates the big numbers like thirty to thirty. Five you're,
see like he, said twenty to twenty four point. Games
this is how football has evolved and. Flipped and that's you,
know the days of the high. Speed remember the games
(12:06):
In oklahoma where you'd get fifty to fifty six and
you're looking at to, say, oh who cares about? Defense
even San riley figured that out AT. Usc he, SAID
i guess we better play some. Defense that's that's somewhat,
important but you slow the game. Down so to answer your,
question this team did a great job of holding in the.
(12:27):
Moment you got off the field on multiple multiple. Opportunities
on fourth, down you held them on fourth and. One
you gave your team an. Opportunity this is a possession
based conference, now and to beat the top top two,
teams top three, teams you have to be efficient with those.
Possessions and right, now that's what we're not winning to
have sixty plays in a game that changes everything sixty
(12:50):
to sixty five because you don't have the luxury for
those big explosive plays to catch. Up another thing is
you have to get ahead of. Teams and here's the
final end that will make sense if you put teams
on the. Ropes the reason Why michigan got behind WITH
usc AND usc put pressure on them early and scored.
Early they had to get out of that style of.
(13:11):
Offense they couldn't go three yards four yards tight end
to the flat tight end on shallow. Cross they had
to try to get chunky With Bryce underwood and he's
not ready for. That so to answer your, question the
best way to take care of our defense right now
is to get ahead on offense and make the other
team's offense feel the pressure to get out of their.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Rhythm Cam cleveland is with us here on checking back
in the, Morning so the real, upset the real headline
In cam's comments is That Lincoln riley has learned something
since being AT.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Usa.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Wow, wow that's a hot. Debate maybe there maybe, yeah, maybe,
maybe very. Debatable hard maybe on this.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
Job if he likes he likes his, job and let's
living At Laguna, beach you better figure out how to play. Defense,
YEAH i mean that might be.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
CLOSER i certainly want to save some time at the
end to talk about the matchup With, illinois But i've
got to. Ask I've i've been dying to ask a
college football, person specifically this all week. Long The jedfish coaching,
rumors whether they are.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
True or, not they're out there right.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Now AND i also Watched nebraska play their worst game
of the year this past, week and it just so
happened to be on a week That James franklin was
fired and that their head coach was being connected To Penn.
State And i'm just curious your experience as a player
as an, analyst loving college, football your entire life and
(14:38):
being a lot closer to it than any of the
three of us. Are what kind of distraction is that
for eighteen to twenty two year, olds even in THE
nil Transfer portal, era to just hear that your coach
might not be happy being your head.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Coach how does that impact a? ROSTER a big, deal,
guys it.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Does look everything now moves way too. Quickly it just
does from THESE nil Agents and you mean to tell
me that from A, Twitter i'm sorry x now or
social media as fast as it. Moves but the communication
moves really. Quickly and guys sit in the locker room
and you can look on your phone and within seconds
you found out your coach left and you didn't even
(15:25):
get an answer from your. Coach so, yes it, does
are Very it looked they made a choice to be
part of. YOU a coach came into their, house sat
down with your, parents had a couple of, coffee and,
Said i'm committed to you and your. FAMILY i want
you to be, here And i'm going to be here
to take care of your. Son and then five minutes
earlier later he walks out of the door and takes
(15:45):
a job and gets on a. Plane and that's just
how this job in this world. Works, now it's, unfortunate
but that's the real. World so, yeah it does affect
these young. Players and that's WHY i battle with the
mindset of telling these youngsters to be fully committed AND
i want them to be one hundred percent because once
you're A, husky you're always A. Husky BUT i think
(16:07):
you should fall in love with the school and coaches
Are their job is to get these young men ready
and do as best they. Can BUT i also can't
fall coaches wanted to climb and wanted to get better
and challenge themselves and go make. More so it's it's,
very very. Difficult but also now with the college football, playoff,
guys you don't have to have a perfect. Record you
(16:28):
could get in with. Two we might see a three
loss team get in in the. Future so is there
going to be distractions throughout a? Season, yeah yeah there.
Is and what DO i think that. COACH i think
he's doing a great. JOB i think he needs to
do everything he can to be the great leader that
he is for this team right. Now but distractions are
always going to be. There and if you're, good someone's
(16:49):
gonna want your coach For god's, Sake Skirt signetti was
offered almost one hundred million dollars At Indiana What Indiana?
FOOTBALL i mean say that with, Me guy's. Same it
just doesn't make any. SENSE i, went Did Bobby knight
come back in reincarnate in? FOOTBALL i don't. Know So
(17:10):
i'm baffled by about a month that is in this
sport right now and the people that are putting billions
of dollars into college. Footba it's a great time to
be a young, Athlete i'll tell you. That and a,
coach he really is all.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Right last, minute give us a thumbnail sketch of This
illinois opponent On.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
Saturday, well it's It's Brett. Vielman if you ever watch
any of his style of, football you'll see that they're
two losses in a ranked. Team so that that matters
because he knows how to. Coach but it's the LINE
i are they can be, beat no. Question it's really
going to come down to what's our health going to look?
Like And i'm Gonna i'm gonna say this the rest
(17:48):
of the, season we will live and die in my,
opinion with How demand carries himself in this, Game he's
put himself on a shoulder as he carries the team's
energy and the speed and the. Tempo he has that
kind of. Athleticism So i'd like to see him be
able to take advantage of the defense because they are
they are a good, defense but they're not a great.
(18:09):
Defense and then from our defensive perspective versus their, offense
it just is it is there going to be the
ability to stop edge like edge contained tight ends in the,
Flat AND i know Coach walters addressed that because if
you attack on, defense you have to be able to
make sure you go after their best athlete and sometimes
(18:30):
the tight. Ends nobody's looking at tight ends going, well
we got to stop that one. Guy so there's just
so many factors going to this football. Game but you
got to defend home turf. Boys we have to at this.
Point you're going to make a run late in the
season to get ready to be in position at the
end of the year Against. Oregon you need the home
games like there's no.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Tomorrow all, right, man thanks for your. Time we appreciate,
it and we will talk very very.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Soon have fun This. Saturday appreciate.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
It thanks. Fellas all, Right.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Cam cleland joining us right here On Chucking buck in
the morning Kickoff. Saturday there at the greatest setting will
be at twelve, thirty which means The honks will get
on the air at eight thirty with the Pregame washington
Versus illinois is your Matchup, saturday twelve thirty. Kickoff wish
it was going to be a beautiful fall day for,
that BUT i think we get in, rain aren't we
(19:23):
for the next?
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Week?
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Ken, yeah so maybe some rainy conditions for.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
That maybe it'll will benefit the. Dogs we shall, see all.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Right coming up next on the radio, Program Angie mentink
stops by our final conversation with her in an official
capacity of The mariners.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Season we'll get her. Thoughts i'm dying to have.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Them on how the season came to an end On
Monday right here At Sports radio ninety three point THREE.
Kjrfm good sports brought to you BY r AND R
foundation specialists providing expert foundation and waterproofing solutions Throughout Western.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Washington now With chuck And, buck here's A.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Oh, yes we wish for better circumstances to chat with
root sports Analysts Angie minsink here about Your Seattle. Mariners
we thought maybe this could be a world series preview,
conversation and instead it's a sad season ending. Conversation, angie
how are?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
You how are you? Feeling?
Speaker 6 (20:21):
Oh this is, good this is good to talk through my,
feelings you, know because so Far i've just been eating
in you, know lots of chocolate and drinking lots of
wine and that it doesn't really helped me get. Anywhere
but your intro maybe just be so sad, too because
you announced it as root. Sport, yeah and so like
(20:42):
lots of things just all of a sudden coming to
an end and making me sad and happy at the same.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Time, Though i'm, Well i'm, SORRY i am, sorry but
at least there's some happiness in.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
There all.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Right So monday, happens you lose the. Game What's angie?
Mintink if she could race in front of the television?
Camera what if she can't wait to talk.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
About WHAT i can't wait to talk? ABOUT i, mean.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
How do?
Speaker 6 (21:08):
You how do you go through? This and you, KNOW
i think if you would have talked to me right,
afterwards probably be a little bit different about WHAT i feel.
NOW i, mean, hindsight you, know gives you a little
bit more. Clarity you know that the frustration of how it.
ENDED i, mean it was just a couple of fistfuls
of outs away from A World. Series you, Know it's
(21:30):
just it was just so close and it was, there
and it just seems so cool to have it ripped
away like it, was especially you, know somebody Like George,
springer where you know this this fan base just frosts.
Over BUT i think that you, know you have to
continue to take an inventory and remember just everything that
(21:51):
was so magical about this. SEASON i, mean this was
so much fun to be a part, of to go
along on The, rock AND i, MEAN i will you
will Never we'll be talking about this team for for
decades and about the things that we saw Caw rawley
do And julio and the impact That Josh naylor made
(22:12):
and and you, Know Geno's Grand slam In game. Six
so there's just so many things to love about this,
season even though you just absolutely abhore how it.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Ended, yeah the, yeah the way in which it. ENDED i,
Mean i'm an optimistic, guy and So i'll end up
finding this. Overlining and yet right now it's still kind
of just hurts to the point where it's it's hard
to go to a positive. PLACE a lot of people
just can't wait to throw blame right, around And i'm
not necessarily. ONE i just kind of feel like you got.
(22:44):
Beat you, know they came out and had one better
swing than you, did, essentially if you want to look
at it like. That and yet there's, reason you, know
there's room for criticism to be. Fair IS i, mean
do you see a way in which possibly you would
have done it differently if you were In dan's? Position?
Speaker 6 (23:02):
YEAH i think that you, Know Dan wilson is not
going to be the same manager in year one because
this is his first full year managing that he is
going to be in in year two even or year
five or year. TEN i don't care who you are
as a, manager you, evolve you get, better you, learn
and you know there's things you, know with with hindsight
(23:26):
that he's going to look back and and know that
he probably will do. Differently you, know trust himself a
little bit. MORE i, MEAN i think you know there
were times in this THIS alcs he would be the
first one to tell you that you, know he was
probably too slow to you, know pull some, guys too
(23:46):
quick to pull. Others and then you know in that
situation and then you, know we'll be talking about it
for most of the off. Season you, know he puts
in his third best picture instead of his best picture
in that situation with the game on the, line and you,
know you think About springer and what he's been able
to do here in in the month Of. October he's been.
Good AND i don't want to take anything away From George.
(24:08):
Springer nine of his eleven hiss In october have been
for extra. Basis but he is an extremely dangerous. Hitter
and in that, SITUATION i, think you, know you want
your your very best guy to face. Him AND i,
think you, know even Though dan's going to put on
face because he wants to, believe, Hey bizarto is our,
guy he's been able to do. This you, KNOW i
(24:30):
THINK i think that's going to eat at.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Him, yeah, Yeah i'm right there with.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
You AND i, mean and if Not, monyos THEN i
had more faith Than brian wu getting out of the
situation because we've watched him do.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
It, yeah he.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
Struck him out on three pitches in the previous at,
That so you KNOW i think that you, KNOW i,
mean you can go back and again that's what that's
what you, know, people it's easy to, do but you
manage the in the, moment and those are the decisions he.
Made BUT i MEAN i thought THAT i thought That
kirby looks really. GOOD i, thought you, KNOW i think
(25:09):
that that The Toronto Blue jays literally had the corners
of their mouth curl when he left the, game BECAUSE
i think he was that. Good he was he was
fantastic and could have maybe gotten another inning out of,
him maybe brought In.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Wu a little bit.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
LATER i, mean there's just a lot of different. Things but,
again LIKE i, SAID i think the one thing that
that you, know you continue to sort of just look
at and, Think, okay with the game on the, line
you know this isn't you, know you manage things differently
in the. Postseason you know this. Isn't he's not the
pivot guy. Anymore we. Don't we don't do. That we
(25:43):
we you, know we find the best guy in this
situation because the game this, season everything is is on the.
Line so who's going to help. Us who's going to
be the best in that situation at the.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
TIME i think you're the perfect person to put on.
THIS i, mean we got to figure out a way
to Get Josh naylor to stick around here obviously first,
year being a fur blown free, agent and YET i,
MEAN i don't know if you, can you, know get
him an edible arrangement OR i don't, know a gift
card to. Somewhere you, know, people what do we have to?
(26:17):
DO i, mean in all, honesty what do we have
to do to Have stanton and?
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Company three very inappropriate? Ones hees for his new. SON i,
MEAN i, Try i'm doing you, Know, okay so you've
started this.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
ALREADY i think you're.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
RIGHT i mean when you look at the success of
this team and what was missing in this, team and
there's no doubt about it, that, like you, Know cal
is such a huge, leader you, know on this. Team
But josh coming, IN i mean he changed. SIX i,
mean he changed the way guys played the. GAME i
(26:55):
mean he taught little tiny. THINGS i saw for the
first time in his. CAREER i Saw julio take the
inner angle running to you, know second base when he
was getting picked, off.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
You know WHAT i.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
Mean, LIKE i saw the impact Of Josh naylor and
it was not. Small SO i hope that he loved it.
HERE i know everybody loved, him AND i Think he
is so much of what this team was. Missing and
again they have Cal he's a fantastic, leader leads a,
staff you, know but he he has a lot on
(27:30):
his plate just on the pitching side of. Things and
then you, know being a switch hitter and everything, else you,
know somebody else to fire everybody else up and really
realize that all those little things in the game add
up to the big. Part that's What Josh naylor is to.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
Me oh, MAN i love that last game that he.
PLAYED i, mean and he, did and he had ONE
rbi hit and he was trying to ambush pitches all
night long on the very first, pitch so offensively he
didn't like stack the stat box there the box, score
but everything he did from picking a ground of bad
throw FROM jp that we don't even recognize in the
moment to the line drives that he caught over at
(28:10):
first base because he was positioned properly to taking a
ball to the noggin because he's, like why, not let's
see if they don't, call Maybe i'll just break up
a double play by putting my face in the. WAY i,
mean it just was everything you want back next, year
and the sparkly shoes on top of.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
It, YEAH i mean the sparky shoes are just a. Bonus,
AGAIN i don't, KNOW i know The mariners want. HIM
i don't know what the you, know what the free
agent market is going to offer. Him But i'm hoping
that he liked to hear because, again we left. YOU
i left the ball off the helmet was just like
(28:49):
there you, go There's Josh. Naylor you know WHAT i?
Mean that right there sums it up Like i'm going
to take one off of the dome so you can't
turn a double? Play, yeah you, know fight. ME i,
mean he's just.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
There are there are many athletes who are the flashiest
and the grittiest at the exact same. Time and uh
And Josh naylor actually is that are and the slowest
and the slowest and yet some the smartest Like Vicky,
henderson you, know stealing thirty.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Bases it's just, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
All, right in our last minute that we have with,
you and of course we're going to bug you throughout
the off, season but you. DID i did mention the
root sports. Thing you did mention the sadness hearing. That
how can we end this? Conversation how CAN i ask
you about your future without invading your privacy too much.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
Here oh, WELL i mean for those people that load
me and hate, me you're going to be, disappointed and
for those people that want to keep the band, together
you're going to be. Happy so you, know, Yeah i'm
excited about the, future just like The. Mariners you, know
learned a lot this, season you, know doing something for
(30:01):
the first, time AND i was not as good AS
i WAS i will ever be at the analyst. Role
it was just my first, season So i'm really excited
to stay at it and keep getting.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Better all, Right, well.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
We are excited to have you in our, Lives i'll
tell you that. Much it's been a grand other great.
Season thank you so, much and we will be bugging
you again real. Soon all, right you got.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
It and just a, REMINDER i, mean you think about
The nucleus and all the, names The, julio the cow The,
woo The, gilbert The, miller The, munnos The, brobblift The,
randy the, JP's all the names that you know are
under club control for some. Time there is a really
talented team here in. Place, yeah and you know good
things are still ahead for this.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Team, YEAH i THINK.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
I just Read Jeff passing FROM espn saying this is
not the end for The.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Mariners this is just the beginning for The.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Mariners there are a lot of people very envious of
what has been grown here In, seattle AND i do
believe it's just getting.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Started all, Right, angie thank.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
You you got.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
It take, care all, Right Angie mentinka with us right
here On chuck And buck in the, mornings and of,
course so we're going to continue talking About mariner topics
as they pop into our. Heads we brought up The
Dan wilson situation With. ANGIE i want to bring it
up again Next Sports radio ninety three point three kh
A rfm decision at the, End like in the, MOMENT
(31:22):
i didn't like. It write down notes like why isn't
it Mon Yos bucky mentioned in the broadcast that, night
why not stick WITH? WU i like both of those
options so much better than the decision we. Make and
that's with all due respect To Eddie bizardo and the
job that he did this past. Season but you, know
(31:42):
we just go with what we think in the post,
game and THEN i did a morning show before i'd
really heard other people's analysis on this particular. Subject so
we've done two full shows Before i'd heard other opinions
and since that time From angie in our last, segment
To mark De Rosa yester Midday morning ON Mlb, central
(32:03):
and pretty much everybody out, there the analysts whose opinions
THAT i admire and respect the most are just hammering.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Him for this.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Decision and it's making me angrier and angrier AS i
go as opposed to getting okay with.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
It, yeah, well in the, MOMENT i just liked the
idea of staying With wu even more Than. MUNYOS i,
mean think about what munhas did when he came. In
now he's been lights out and he didn't end up
getting hurt, there BUT i mean they had a pretty
good plan against. HIM i, mean there was a couple
of raked sliders when they did end up bringing him.
In so there's nothing guaranteeing that would there's nothing guaranteeing
(32:37):
that anything different would have. Worked AND i ended up
kind of yesterday trying to find silver, linings trying to
find a way to reconcile a, thing end up looking
into a bunch of different, stats AND i think it
would surprise people to find out That Eddie bizarda was
like eighth in all of baseball in stranding inherited, runners
like eighth of every relief pitcher that out. THERE i, mean,
(33:01):
yeah You're Eroaldus chapman had a great year this. Year
he stranded eighty seven percent of the runners that he.
Inherited Eddie bizardo stranded eighty five percent of the runners.
Inherited that's that stat right, there Says and just think
about if, he you, know bizarre, SAYS i threw that
same pitch to him and he hit a ground ball last.
Time this time he made the adjustment like a good hitter,
(33:24):
does like a really clutch hitter in the postseason. Does
and we're talking, about let's just say an inch difference
between that being a ground ball to third base and
you cut the runner down at home or you they
stop and stay there and you got one more guy
to go. To if would, have could, have should. Have you,
know you're gonna kill yourself if you go through that whole.
Thing to, me it's like you've got to make a
(33:45):
decision and it can come back to haunt. You this
one is going to come back To hanus and it's
going to kind of live in In Dan, wilson in
all of our heads for. Forever and yet you know
that stat was one that was, like you know what
you kind of he went, with who IF i put
in this situation, before has it Been? Brian, well that's
WHERE i think The BRIAN wu, thing even more than
(34:05):
The munos thing comes.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
In, WELL i THINK i.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Think that's PROBLEM i haven't a lot of people out
is that you can't manage it like you have managed it.
BEFORE i, mean it's do or die game. Seven the
playoffs are different to begin. With game seven's are different
than the rest of the. Playoffs and the moment that
you're getting ready to Face George springer And Vladimir, guerrero
hopefully for the last time in the, series even if
you don't even have runners on base, YET i would
(34:28):
think it would be actually in the back of their
heads to get your closer ready in case you have
to Face springer Or guerrero with runners on. Base we
want best on best in that moment to try and
get that.
Speaker 7 (34:40):
Out, yeah AND i completely.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
AGREE i do think.
Speaker 7 (34:42):
THAT i was listening to the, broadcast and even on the,
broadcast they, said, well that's interesting that they're bringing In
bizardo and Not. Munyos you'd think you'd have your closer
ready for this. Situation and then, yeah for them to
not have even had them warming up. IT i think
the issue would have been if they'd Left Brian wu
in and he would have given up the home, run,
well then it's On Dan wilson for Leaving brian wou, in,
(35:03):
right and so then we're mad at him that.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Way, yeah, Right and so we'd probably.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Even be mad if he Put munyos in and he
gave in the home. Run, ye why would you put
him in that?
Speaker 7 (35:11):
Circumstance we still would have, said why didn't you Leave Brian.
WOUEN i, mean anything that happened giving up that home,
run we're going to question. It it's just especially because
that's the thing that ended our. Season that's the last
thing we have to think about until spring training starts In.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
February it's a long time to think about.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
It.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
YEAH i really believe he went into it with a
game plan of For, kirby get him out before he
faces the lineup a third, time because he's gotten in
trouble doing that in the past three With. WU i
think they felt really good About wu and then two With,
munyos and then LIKE i said yesterday AND i said
in the postgame, show and THEN i Think spire was
there if things went wrong In kirby's last, inning to
(35:51):
get you out of trouble because he's used to. That
bizarta was going to be there eighty five percent right
stranded base runners to get you out IF wu got.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
In any trouble in those three. Innings.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Uh and THEN i Think brash was gonna be available
because he's the only other guy that's ever closed the
game other Than, munjos to possibly get you out of
that situation on the back. END i think that was
the game. PLAN i think that's a pretty good game. Plan,
yeah but that's the thing about playoff. Baseball you've got
to be ahead of what's gonna happen. Next you gotta
have be two three moves ahead because it even though
(36:22):
the game moves, slowly the game of, baseball, man those
decisions come fast when your season is on the. Line
AND i don't THINK i think he had a good.
PLAN i don't think that he was prepared for an
audible as well as he should have.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
BEEN i would agree with. That that's just Where i'm.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
At with, it And i'm not Getting i'm not feeling
better about. It bucky stats are good and they, helped
but it also leaves out.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
The thought that you Threw bizardo two innings the day.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Before exactly probably probably wasn't Peak bizardo that we even
used in that.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Situation why'd you.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Use him in a meaningless game if you needed him
For game?
Speaker 2 (36:56):
Seven, Yeah SO i mean they're gonna, Rage they're gonna.
RAGE i Just.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
I'm not feeling better about it as we get further
away from, it and that's kind.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Of, strange all.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Right coming up, next a major event happened in the
sports world last, night and we've been so busy that
we just kind of overlooked it. Yesterday but today we
will treat it as we normally treat.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
It it's time to.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Draft On chuck And Bucks Sports radio ninety three point THREE,
