to preview a major sporting event. It started last night.
(01:26):
Normally we would have been ahead of the game, but
we had too much to discuss yesterday on the radio program,
and so today we play a little bit of catch up.
There are only two games in the books, right, no
big deal, no harm done, no harm, no foul. That's
a basketball expression, is it not. And so today we
preview the National Basketball Association season. It is here, it
(01:48):
is underway, and we do it like only we do
it here on Chuck and Buck. And that's why drafting
time for our Green Jacket draft. We're gonna draft teams,
and whoever has the most wins with or four teams
that you draft at the end of the year will
win the Green Jacket. Now, let's first update us on
we haven't done this in a while, on how people
are doing in our other green jacket drafts. Ashley's really
(02:12):
got a predicament here because she is two home runs
back of Christopher Kidd in our playoff home run Green
Jacket Draft, and yet the only person that she has
on her roster to root for is George Springer. Oh
you took him. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Do you know how gressed I was by every home
run he like? I was like, yeah, did not Wow,
I didn't realize it was all your fault. Well, it's everything.
I lose everything anyway these days, so definitely not my fault.
I should have been a curse to him.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
You should have been a curse to him. That's what
you were hoping for.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
I would have loved it.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
That was the goal. Kids got tay Oscar left and
a two home run lead so far.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I don't know what my kid is on here. I've
got all three of them there, different ones turned on.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
It looks like I'm in here. It looks like he's
conducting a press conference. He's got like fourteen mics and from.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
When are we working with your kid?
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I think it's the one in your hand because it's
making noise right now? Okay, all right, So Bucky still
has Showy Otani, but he only has six home runs.
Kid has thirteen. I still have Freddy Friedman. Forget about it.
I only have five home runs. All right, Hockey, very
early in the crack and hockey. I'm off to the
early lead with twenty points in our hockey Ashley's got seventeen,
(03:35):
kid with fourteen and Bucky with thirteen. Anybody's ball game
at this point? Our college football preview draft? Good night?
What is going on over there? You're like wrestling pace?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Okay, kid, you should be on four, so you got it.
But you've got two microphones on over there somewhere, so
can I have one?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
There is? He's good? Now we're good. I don't want
to talk about it anymore. All right, College football preview.
Bucky's looking really good. He's got U dub at eight wins.
He's got Ohio State winning the national championship. They're currently
ranked number one. He's got Oregon winning the Big Ten.
They still got a good shot at doing that. The
only thing that you're missing out on is arch Manning
is not going to win the Heisman. But don't you
(04:12):
shed a tear because our picks are really bad this
year as a great terrible. Kids are all right, Ashley's
are bad and mine are bad. So it's really kind
of come down to Bucky and Chris and the College
Football Preview Draft and then the NFL Season Preview Draft
are over and unders that one's looking very much like
(04:33):
it's going to come down to Bucky or I in
that I have the great Dolphins pick going for me.
But guy, I've got maybe the worst pick with the
Colts going against me. So hopefully those two will average
out and I'll have a shot. But Bucky with his
eight and a half over for the Seahawks in the
first round, is looking like his best pick us. Yeah,
(04:55):
all right, I think that's it. That gets you updated.
And then in our fantasy league for big ten man,
that's getting tight. Ashley's leading, but the three of you
are within like ten points. And I've gotten back into
this thing. Yeah, I've won the last three weeks, but
I dug such a big hole. I still got a
long ways to go. All right, So now we preview
(05:15):
the National Basketball Association season. We need a draft order.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
What do we do when you're at well, here's a shocker.
Kid your first, Bucky your second, Chuck your third, and
I'm fourth again.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Boy, Yeah, not a bad spot to be in.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
No, I don't mind it. But it's the fourth time
in a row I've had the fourth pick. I think
third or fourth.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, you may want to hit the thing on the side.
You could take George Springer.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I would if I had to with the fourth pick
that I keep getting.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
He won't be well, at least take the Raptors, since
you're so in love with Toronto.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, clearly just save me Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
All right, Well, kid won this thing last year. He's
our local NBA expert. I suppose he's a hockey expert,
and he has the number one pick in the draft.
So who's going to get the most wins in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
They're already undefeated, so go ahead and give me a case.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Oh boy, hard to think that they're not going to
get the most wins. I mean, Vegas right now has
their over unders out there at sixty two and a half.
Second best is fifty six and a half. So they're
saying that there's six wins better yeah, than anyone else
in the NBA right now. Really good roster.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Just so you know, if I had the first pick,
I still wouldn't have picked them.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
You've got Springer, yeah, burn though, Yeah, you're suffering from
Springer's cars. Yeah, but I also think they could get
better as the season goes.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
That's the scary part because they don't even have Jalen Williams.
They're missing their starting point guard.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Well, and they also have all the trade capital in
the world. So if like a Yiannis or a Booker Lebron,
I mean they're in the watching the NBA, they do that,
they're in the best position to add during the season.
If one of these veterans playing for another team their
season doesn't go, they can just come in there, swoop
in there and grab another star player to add to
(07:03):
this group. And they've got the cap space working. Yeah,
So that was the number one pick. I don't think
there's any doubt about it. All right, Bucky, you've got
the second overall selection where you're gonna go. At least
you don't have to face the conflict of taking the thunder. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
No, I don't have to worry about that. That's nice.
I don't know where the heck to go with this,
to be honest, I'm gonna go ahead. I'm gonna go
ahead and take Boston. I know they're down a super.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, I know where Boston. Yeah, wow, I wouldn't. Jason
Tatum's out for the year. I know Porzingis is gone,
Horford's gone. I'm just looking her website. Okay, all right,
Boston Celtic.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I've got the fourth pick, so I know where check's going.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
You don't know. You probably don't know where I'm going.
I think I do, because Cleveland is the most logical
choice based on the season that a year ago. But man,
I really like Denverna to New York. Second, I'm not
going to New York name, all right, So I'm gonna
go ahead and take. I'm going to take. They're just
(08:12):
really good in the regular season and they'll choke in
the postseason. So I'm gonna go Cleveland. This isn't a
postseason contest, No, you're right, a regular season contest, So
give me the Cavaliers. They're just running it back same
team as they had a year ago, and that's a
young team with the exception of Donovan Mitchell, and I
would expect all the guys around him to get a
little bit better. I don't think they're built for the playoffs.
I think they're gonna have the same sad exit in
(08:33):
the postseason that they've had the last couple of years.
But they're gonna win regular season games, are they not, Christopher?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
I think they will. Yeah, they will definitely win regular
season games. And yeah, to your point, see in the playoffs, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah, and then a second round exit. All right, Ashley,
you got back to back selections here in our NBA
season preview draft. Where are you going?
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well, I am gonna go with Denver because they see
him just always be good.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
All right, Denver, and they've added Cameron Johnson, which I
think is a upgrade over Michael Porter Junior. They are
the hot name right now. Like I saw a website
the other day, I think it was CBS Sports. They're
experts weighed in on it, and I think there were
as many teams picking Denver to win, or many experts
we're picking Denver to win as okay, see, which I
(09:16):
found a little shocking. So they I think people are
thinking because they weren't pushed all the way to the
end of the season, they might be a little fresher
this year. And the Jokers still amazing, so I think
that's a great pick. I was really torn between them
and the Caves.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Well, and if it made you feel better, if you
would have picked Denver, I would have taken the Cabs.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
So either way, okay, yeah, yeah, all right, where are
you going next?
Speaker 2 (09:35):
You know, I'm intrigued by the Houston Rockets, so I'm
going to take the Houston Rockets.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, I don't really making it hard on me.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
I don't like their roster construction, but we'll see how
it plays off. Well, they don't have a point guard,
and that's going to be a problem. But they won
fifty two games last year as a young and.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Upcoun and they had Fred van Vliet running things. And
now I've added Durant. That doesn't make up for they
don't have a point guard.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
She'd be calling Spencer didn't with he yesterday?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Well they can have season comes to an end, and
then you've got the KD factor on the negative side,
because everything he touches turns to portall and.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
That's what I am worried about. But I'm intrigued and
I do love some ktis, so I gotta go with it.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Okay, kid thinks I should have taken the Knicks with
the third pick. I don't think I'm taking him even
with the sixth pick. Wow, they only won forty one
games last year. Yeah, I had him. I'm taking the Orlando.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Magic ding and I was hoping to get them later.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
I'm taking Powello man Caero. I think they are the
up and coming team because of the injuries in the
Eastern Conference. That they don't have to deal with with
the Tatum and Halliburton, uh and Lillard with Milwaukee. I
think it's wide open and Orlando might be in position
to take it. Plus they've added Desmond Vain as a
(10:52):
veteran that I think rounds them out. I think the
Magic are going to soar. I think they improved by
at least ten wins this year.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Yeah, Desmond is really talented. He's gonna take a lot
of pressure off of Polo to get budgets. And I
think defensive they're just gonna take the next step and
be a better defensive unit as a team. And if
they can do that, I wouldn't be surprised if they
finished third or fourth in the East.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I wouldn't be surprised if they finished number one. Put
one hundred dollars on that. No, just said, I wouldn't
be surprised.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
That's all.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Just surprised.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Paolo, though, is inner and superstardom right now. He did
that last season. He just got hurt, obviously, but kind
of like that.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
At the end of the year, people were talking about
him like a superstar, and now I think he's ready
to start a season with people talking that way. So
Orlando is going to be my pick there. Uh so,
Bucky you are up next. Where are you gonna go
with the seventh overall select?
Speaker 5 (11:43):
I'll go ahead and take I mean, I hate New York,
but I'll go ahead and take the Knicks because I
like the Colors.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Okay, the Colors. I mean it's a steal at seven.
I mean, Vegas says they're gonna be fifty three and
a half wins this year. They have a brand new
head coach. I don't know if it's an improvement. I
think Thibodau is a pretty good coach, and they're adding
Mike Brown now to that equation, and I do question
their depth a little bit. I think at seven, though,
(12:08):
that's the steal. That's the obvious pick there, right, Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Also the fact that you like the Colors is a
great reason to pick them.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yes, all right, kid, you got back to back selections here.
It's our NBA season preview Green Jacket Draft. Kids got
Okac in the first round? Yeah, what a jerk? Yeah yeah,
apparently you're a thunder fan.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah yeah, yeah, just turn your back on the Sonic.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Right, wait to turn your back on Seattle? All right?
Back to back selections. What are you going to do here?
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Health with this team scares me, But I'll go ahead
and go away from coaching because I think Lou Tyrone
Lo's a better coach. But go ahead and give me
the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Well you can take them both if you want Minnesota
and the Clippers here.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Well, the thing is, I do love Tyrone Los a
head coach, but I will not. I will go ahead,
give me the give me the Warriors. Okay, you were
going to pick Warriors, Olden State Warriors.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Then in the next round, So Warriors, first full season
with Curry and Butler together, I mean Butler apparently said
made a bet with him that he was gonna that's
why he was so good have a higher free throw
percentage than Steph this year. He went for ten last night,
I think sixteen for sixteen even better. Yeah, And then
he got to the start. Then he got to the
postgame and was asked about it, and he said, I
was a dumb bet, even though he went perfect from
(13:24):
the line last night. But that's our first full season together.
Somehow they still have kaminga man. It seemed like the
most logical guy to trade. They're not giving him playing time,
but he's still there, so they could they could take
that step forward. And then Minnesota, I think is just
as solid a pick as you can make. They're going
to be good. Are they going to become great? We're
(13:46):
still waiting on it. Anthony Edwards is great, but are
the Timberwolves going to become great? We're still waiting on it.
All right, Bucky, you got the next selection here. I
did a lot of research on this.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
I'm gonna go ahead and take Minnesota because Blue Mountain
Community College we were the Timberwolves, and so I'm gonna go.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Ahead off the board. Wait taking Oh dang it? Sorry,
Oh that's stupid. All right, Well, then I'll take the Clippers,
even though I don't like LA. All right, the LA
Clippers Vegas says, that's the pick here. I'm with Kid though,
like man Is Kawhi possibly gonna stay healthy this year.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Tyrone's a great coach, but what else can you do
when your superstars out fifty games?
Speaker 1 (14:22):
And it just I mean, Harden's not getting younger and
they added Bradley Beale. That's your answer for getting better?
Are you kidding me? He's gonna miss eighty games this year.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
I don't know if Tyrone you can do it with
that much. That's that's what's pass for.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
It's too much. Vegas likes him though, at forty nine
and a half wins this year, so that Bucky's gonna
take them in the third round. I got the next selection,
and here, all right, here, I just can't keep going
chalk here. So I might be helping somebody out, but
I'm gonna go ahead and take the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I was I was plundering taking them with the fourth pick.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Full season with the Aaron Fox, second season with Stephen Castle,
a health, the whimby hopefully for the full year, number
two overall pick added to this, and I think this
is actually a benefit not having the Popovich question, you know,
lingering He's out of the equation completely at this point,
I think the Spurs take a big step forward. Shout
(15:16):
out to my buddy Steve so Lee's so, I'm going
to take San Antonio with my third round selection. And
I got no analysis from our NBA expert on that pick.
Not you're gonna get me. That's all you need to know.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
If he stays healthy, that's thirty plus wins.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I was expecting Lisa.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Oh, Aura, you know, expected to be surprised if they
are that.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yeah, there we go. Okay, Ashley got back to back picks. Here,
I'm going to take I think you're doing really well
by the way. Fourth. The fourth pick overall wasn't a
bad spot to be, you know, I didn't.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I don't hate it for this one. I just thought
it was funny that I once again ended up with
the fourth pick. I'm going to take the Atlanta Hawks.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
That's a good pick.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
It's a good pick.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Thank you. I appreciate that. And I'm torn here between
two teams for my fourth pick. But I'm gonna take
the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Oh, gonna go with the LA Lakers stayed away from
them this year. I'm staying away from them too.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Lebron over here, I'm not playing the first month.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
I'm not worried about Lebron. Luca I think is going to.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Be the I think he's going to be great. I
think he might average thirty five points a game MVP,
but losing. But if Lebron's not happy and not going
to be sticking around, and who else do they have? Reeves, really,
you're gonna win with Luca and Reeds. They're not gonna
win games, but they will put up points. I think
they all most have started to turn the page into
the next chapter. That's kind of how I feel. And
(16:42):
you don't win a lot of regular season games that way.
All Right. My last pick, I'm torn between I really
solid Detroit Piston That's who I was, and I don't
know why Dallas is so low the addition of Cooper
Flag onto a team that was not so bad last year.
So I'm gonna take Dallas' gonn take Dallas here, give
me Dallas, Cooper Flag magic right here, give me the Mavericks.
(17:05):
I don't think they were that bad of a team
a year ago. The Luca thing was surprising. But I'm
gonna good day Dallas. Maybe that's the wrong choice, but
give me the maps. All right, Bucky, you got the
next election.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
I'm gonna go take the nicest people on the planet,
a Detroit Pistons.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
That's a good pick. Uh. Yeah, they really finished strong
a year ago. Kay Cunningham's entering superstardom. That's a good pick.
All right, kid, close us out, all right, give me
the bucks, all right?
Speaker 3 (17:32):
That they have that one guy, you know, Janni's Tintokumpo,
So you know, the.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Best in the world.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
He's one of the world. And yeah, his team's the
sixteenth best in our draft. Well, they did lose Damian Lillard,
so but they sad at Miles Turner. It's so strange,
like they're gonna turn from there's gonna be completely different teams.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Yeah, they're gonna be a lot more defensively, Like my goodness,
they can't score and we can't score on these guys. Yeah,
you got seven foot Giannis and Miles turn of the
blocking machine.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
So it should be to watch. All right, are there?
It is our NBA season preview. Who's your champion this year? Kid?
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Oh, I got the Nicks and Okasee, I got Oka.
See taking number two.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
They can't win back to back. Chuck, you started the show,
so I know this segment. But yeah, I know, all right, kids,
team OKC, Minnesota, Golden State, and Milwaukee. Bucky's got the Celtics,
the Knicks, the Clippers, and the Pistons. Chuck with the Cavaliers,
Magic Spurs and Mavericks Magic Mavericks. Yes, I took a
(18:33):
lot of chances. Hmm, maybe I should rethink that. Ashley
with the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, and Los
Angeles Lakers. There you go. You are now ready for
the NBA season. NBC couldn't get you there, Charles and
Company won't be able to get you there tonight. We
got you there here on Chuck and Buck in the Mornings.
Coming out next, I want to talk about something that
(18:56):
we discussed a little bit earlier with Cam Cleveland as
Jed Fish started to cause a distraction on Montlake Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, Chuck a Bouck in
(19:24):
the Morning's presented by Talala Resort Casino, Talela p Resort Casino,

on the action and bet on your favorite sporting event
at the DraftKings Sportsbook at both Talala Presort Casino and
Quilsee the Creek Casino where the action never stops. Plenty

to three kjar dot com. You can enter now to

sale in two days October twenty fourth, but again a
(20:08):
chance to win them for free at Sports Radio ninety
three point three KJR dot com. One last thing is
still coming up on the radio program. We were talking
with Cam Clayton a little bit earlier. This is a
topic I've been sitting on for a couple of weeks
and just haven't had the opportunity to bring it up.
But Jetfish, we already know his reputation out there, that
(20:30):
he moves around the lot, that he's never too happy
in one location, and those rumors have followed him ever
since he got here. I mean those that wanted to
take shots at Jetfish. You know, as soon as he
got here were the jokes about him looking to leave. Well,
sure enough the rumors have started, and maybe well they
(20:51):
started the moment he got here. They've ramped up here
in the last couple of weeks. With all of these
head coaching positions opening up midway through the year, some
attractive ones like UCLA and Penn State and others. Plus
the floor of the job which he's been connected to
for fifteen twenty years because of his time there and
his time with Steve Spurrier, that's even become available. And
(21:15):
so whether there's truth to the rumors that Jed Fish
is interested in leaving or that these programs are interested
in bringing him in, it's out there. And I don't think, Bucky,
that that affects NFL players all that much to hear
trade rumors about their or not trade rumors, but firing
rumors about their head coach. I think professional players have
(21:36):
a good job of compartmentalizing that, but I don't think
college kids do. And even if there's no truth to it,
and maybe there's not, maybe there is. I'm not here
to tell you. I'm not an investigative reporter. I'm just
a talk show host. It is pretty clear that it
affects college programs. I mean, Nebraska just played their worst
(21:58):
game of the year. Is at a coincidence that it came
after a week of finding out that their head coach
wants the Penn State job.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
No?
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Is that a coincidence that Washington laid such an egg
at Michigan on a week in which Jedfish he's leaving
the program. Rumors started running rampant throughout not just college football,
that throughout the city. These kids see all of this,
They see more of it than any kids have ever
seen that have played college football. Because of social media,
(22:27):
they even see the rumors and the crazy speculation and
the hot takes of everyone out there. And I think
professional athletes do a pretty good job, even not a
great job of compartmentalizing that stuff. I'm not sure college
athletes do. And I'm not saying it affected them Saturday,
but I'm saying it very well could have affected them Saturday.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Yeah, I don't know if i'd give any ad credence
to it it affecting them. I think they just got
beat by a better team, and you know, with all
the travel and all that stuff. But regardless of your
point of does it affect college I most certainly it
affects college athletes more. They're not as grown up that
while it is more of a business now than it's
ever been, there's still is a whole heck of a
(23:10):
lot more of being talked into coming here.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Right. It's not the same.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
I know, free agency is you're you're trying to, you know,
woo somebody, but usually it's the money that talks more
so now that's infiltrated its way into the college game,
the money aspect of it has.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
And yet I still think that there's more.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
There's more of an ability for a coach to go
into a living room and talk to a young kid,
a player and his parents and and and.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Win them over.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
And then if all of a sudden you go there
and next thing, you know, the dude that came into
your living room and talked you into coming there, uh
is being rumored to go somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
What does that mean for me?
Speaker 5 (23:50):
Because that means somebody news coming in that didn't necessarily
say that they wanted me. Hopefully I'm good enough that
they do. But they might bring some of their old
their own players from wherever they coming from in And
that whole thing is the unsettled feeling of what it
would be. I think most certainly affects college kids more.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yeah, I would think so too, because they have the
ability to also leave. Right when their coach leaves, then
they could leave. And so now all of a sudden,
when you hear your coach's rumored to be going somewhere else,
you start thinking, well, do I want to be here?
Do I want to follow him? Do I want to
go somewhere else. Is this the right? You know? Is
this working out how I've wanted to? When you start
second guessing potentially all of the things that in your
current situation, So not even just the new coach or
(24:29):
who's coming in, who's taking over, but do you want
to stay there if your coach is leaving? Where's in
the pros, you can't be like, if your coach leaves, Okay,
well I'm gone too. You can't do that. But in college,
it's an entire shift for the entire program. It's not
just that one coach.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
And if there's no truth to it, it's very unfair
to that coach to try to put out all of
those fires. It's sort of like that old thing where
if you go up to somebody at a party and
you say, hey Bill, you're still beating your wife, even
if you're kidding, you implant that in the head of
all the people at the party, and now they're like,
hey Bill, why I didn't even know that. You know
(25:05):
that sort of thing. So when the rumors start, you
can try to put out all those fires individually. You
can go to all the players like that's nonsense, or
have a big team meeting. It's nonsense, but it has
infiltrated their brains and maybe they don't process it quite
as well. And look, I mean, we're gonna have more
opportunities to test that because we're seeing coaches being given
(25:28):
up on earlier than ever ole Miss this week. I mean,
Lane Kiffin has been connected to Florida ever since that
that job opened up, and this will be their first
game that they've played with that knowledge at ole Miss
that Hey is coach happy here or not, and he
might be completely happy. I think there's a great argument
that ole Miss is a better place to be right
(25:49):
now than Florida. Why would you abandon the good thing
that you have growing in Oxford to go to Florida
where they haven't won since Urban Meyer. And yet the
rumors are out there and we'll see if ole Miss
handles it the way that they should. It's sort of
an unfair thing, But I suppose if you move around
a lot, that's the penalty of kind of gaining that reputation,
(26:13):
is that when you move around a lot, it's cute
to joke about, but whenever an opening comes up, your
name gets floated in there. Because we all know Jed
fish hops from lily pad to lily pad in college football.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Yeah, I mean, the fact that he is a bit
of a nomad I think would most certainly add to
the trepidation if I was on that roster, and if
I was a U dub fan that was hoping that
You're not have to go through this turnover where you
lose a bunch of players with in the transfer portal,
and it's tough for somebody to get their feet underneath
(26:47):
them when they take over a new program. Yeah, it's
an unsettling feeling for sure, and because of his history,
I think it's probably even more so.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Well, we'll see how players deal with it. But I mean,
look at Kurt Signette. This is a great example, by
the way. Yeah, I mean everybody was surprised that why
did you sign that deal? Why did you sign that
contract midway through the year you were about to become
a free agent? Penn State, UCLA, Florida might have been
a bidding war. NFL teams might have been coming for you.
(27:17):
That's how hot of a name he is right now
in college football at Indiana. Well, if you're Kurt Signety, like, no,
I've seen how this impacts I'm going to sign. I'm
going to put my player's minds that he ease. So
I'm going to sign right now, even if it's not
the best deal, even if I would have better leverage
in the offseason. Don't you think that part of that
decision is I want to sign now because I don't
(27:38):
want to lose this season, right. I don't want my
kids distracted thinking their coaches leaving. I've seen how it
impacts other program Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Look what happened when de Boor didn't sign his contract.
That was the bigger topic than the games for a while.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Well, well, I think actually that's an example the other way,
because I don't think that anybody took Debor leaving that
seriously until afterwards. So you got to make a run
all the way to the National Champion being ship game
because everybody was sure he was here forever he was.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Don James well because he had nobody knew Saban was leaving.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Yeah, but if your Kurt Signetti and you're studying everything
is a smart guy like man, I can't afford this
season to lose a game because my players think that
I'm leaving. Yeah, And maybe that's the reason why you
just like give me a pen. I like that. I
probably would like something better if I had more time
(28:27):
to negotiate, but I don't want my players thinking I'm
thinking about leaving good for him. So I'm gonna go
ahead and sign this deal right now. And Indiana just
kept on rolling there with the Hoosiers, all right. One
last Thing's next Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
RFM HR vital segment. One last thing, Bucky, what's your
(28:49):
one last thing? I just I mean, the whole idea of.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Like wanting to throw blame around, right, I mean, I
get it, especially in our line of work, but most
fans basically are kind of in the same thing where
they just want to figure out.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Why and how and wow.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
I just got to know the reason, and I got
to find somebody to kind of point at. I just
think it's I think it's misplaced going solely at you know,
Dan Wilson. I think the idea of having criticism for
it and looking at alternative things that you were thinking
in the moment, or even even if you're just looking
at it in hindsight, I think that that is warranted.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
It's part of the job. He's going to have to
handle it.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
But I just think it's misguided to just sit and think, well,
it's all Dan Wilson's fault. It's kind of like, I mean,
if I'm going to go through it, it's the first inning,
you walk the lead off guy, you make a horrible pitch.
George Kirby makes a horrible O two pitch to Vladdie
that ends up getting smashed to left field and he's
lucky there was no launch agle on that or it
(29:51):
would have been hit out of Canada. And then you
eventually get punished by a Cenie ground ball chopper by
var Show that.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Ties the ball game up.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
So like you just want to go through that, and
then the seventh inning if you want to, wu walk
in the seventh hitter, and then all of a sudden
you get another bad O two pitch that gets chopped
up the middle, and is there range issues there with
with JP Fine, It's like there's a whole heck of
a lot more things that were not in control of
the manager. That's why I typically end up going to
(30:23):
The reason why you win is usually because of the players.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
George.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
They won because George Springer executed on a bad pitch
that Bizardo threw, not because bizarrea was in the game
because whoever you would have left in the game or
brought in the game could have thrown the same pitch
and the same spot. Is there likelihoods and scenarios and
stats and yeah, all of that goes into it, and
yet you still got to go out and execute it.
So to me, it's just I just think that those
(30:48):
that think they get it's correct to just flat out
blame the manager because they didn't get to the World
Series as silly.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Ashley, what you want? Last thing?
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Well, we are running a Dodgers podcast. Have you heard this?
Like a promo for a Dodgers podcast? And all I
kept thinking was we were nine outs away from playing
the Dodgers in the World Series and then this week
we would have been running a Dodgers podcast. Like, why
does everybody in the nation want to listen to a
Dodgers podcast?
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Run that in LA the best baseball podcast. I mean,
they're trying to make the best baseball podcast of all time.
Actually give them a little credit.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah, could the Dodgers go back to back?
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Like that?
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Like that's some hot take, like the idea that maybe
the Dodgers could win back to back World Series? Yeah,
everybody expects them to.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
I know and Andrews and I put together our off
season podcast. The idea was to make a really mediocre one.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Well that's most people's plan.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Yeah, garbage to mediocre. Yeah, and we found our way
in there. But this one's going this one's supposed to
be the best.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Well, and now you know the secret to getting your
podcasts promoted by iHeart. You just have to say you're
making the best one, like the football one two to
three times a week. They want to try to make
a really good football podcast.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Oh yeah, they're going to combine information with entertainment. Yep.
We're gonna be the first to do that.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I'll go ahead and pull back the curtain. We hate
those promos.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Yep, and I know a lot of other people did.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Yep. Alright, I'm going to close with this. We all
want Josh Naylor back next year. But there's an interesting
thing going on. They're gonna be two Japanese players. One
of them just today got posted. His name is Kazuma Okamoto.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Okay, so he's probably going to the Dodgers, and.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Then Munataka Murakami. They're both corner infielders and both it
looks like are going to be on the free agent market.
Josh Naylor is our first choice, but I know that
the Mariners want a Japanese player on this team. They
want to tap into that flood of talent that is
making its way over here to America. And Ashley, you're right,
(32:50):
you beat me to the punch. There's just this fear
that they're all gonna go to the Dodgers for cheap deals. Now,
these two guys are unlike Otani and c because they
came over early and then did all the deferred pay.
These guys are actually going to be a part of
like a bidding war, and the word is out. You're
not getting a Japanese star player for cheap anymore. You're
(33:13):
gonna have to spend a lot of money on them.
But it might be they might be alternatives if in fact,
Josh Naylor does go somewhere else, that one of these
two guys could be targets for the Mariners. Could play
first base, could play third base. So those are the
three guys. I'd circle Naylor and these two Japanese players
as possibilities to be our first basement next year.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Just to give you an idea, my circle around. Naylor
is in sharpie and and it's laminated.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yeah it's But you're gonna go to a free agent
list and you're not gonna see those two names on
it just yet. One just got posted today and then
the other one is a guy that hit fifty six
home runs at age twenty two. They're both gonna looks
like gonna be a part of the free agent bidding war.
And I know the Mariners are interested. I know that
(34:00):
that's exciting. All right, that'll do it for us today.
