We are in a dark place apparently. The World Series starts tonight and we don’t know how to feel about it. This NBA/FBI scandal didn’t seem to rock the NBA and sports world as much as we thought it would. This isn’t just some guys who couldn’t stop gambling, these guys knowingly deceived gamblers to profit. :30- ABCs of the Mariners - R is for Raleigh: luckily we don’t have to worry about Cal’s future as a Mariner, but we are getting close to awards season- will he win MVP? - S is for 2nd base: prepare yourself, we are probably not adding a 2nd baseman. - T is for Toronto: :45- Is JSN the best wide receiver in the NFL that no one is actually talking about? The Seahawks wide receiver is quietly (outside of Seattle) having a remarkable start to his season.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Friday. This crowd is going nuts.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Sponsored by Tito's handmade Budka crowd sponsor of the Seahawks,
distilled in bottles by Fifth Generation eight, Austin, Texans, forty
percent alcohol.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
My moll, you're saber responsibly.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Football Friday is on with Chuck and Buddy on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
All right, good Friday morning to you. Welcome into the
radio program. It is Chuck Powell, it is Ashley Ryan
with you know Buck here. Today's out for a couple
of days, and so you got us for four hours
here on this Friday morning, lovely Friday morning, getting ready
for a what looks to be a damp weekend. Don't
like that.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I think more than damp, we're supposed to get like
an over an inch of rain.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I know, you know what this is where this is
where Ashley and I probably are the closest in our
love for fall, yeah, and our love for dry fall weather.
To enjoy the leaves.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, I really do like the leaves in it.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
And it was a little windy the other day and
I thought, oh, what's gonna happen?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
But they seemed to kind of hold on and they
were just blowing. And now I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Know what's gonna happen. They we're gonna have some soggy
leafage at our feets. And I don't like that. All
that beauty that it really is sort of just a sad,
sad representation. You take all that beauty and then you
just wet it and damp it and just rip it
from its root and there it is underneath your feet.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, and then you just step on it.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Two days ago, this was gorgeous and I was staring
at it, enjoying a cool fall breeze and having a
cup of coffee and a pumpkin scone. And now now
look what our life has been.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Now look now, look at all the rain in our forecast.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
I can't wait to sit and watch softball in it.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Is that your weekend? Yes? Oh geez? Yeah, oh boy.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
The tournament all weekend long.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Did Nickerson, by the way, sell out his venue for Saturday?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
I don't know if he did or not. I know
I think he sold out there.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Not friends with us, He made it very clear he's
only friends with Ashley.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Well, we were texting the.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Other day, yeah, exactly, of course.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
And I told him that I couldn't make the show
about that. I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
I could give you his phone number, you could text him,
and then he'd probably really be more excited to be
your friend.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Than my friend. But I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
I should ask him, because you know his show. He's
got two shows tomorrow at the Neptune. They're going to
be awesome, and that's perfect to do on a rainy weekend,
go to a comedy show.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, that's true. That's true. Yeah, Well, I don't know
if I'm going to make it. I don't know if
I'm going to make it. Maybe that's why I'm not
his friend and you are. Well, I can't make it.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
I have to watch softball all weekend long.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
But you've got things you have to do.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
You can come watch softball and then you can tell
him I have to go watch softball all weekend long.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Yeah that sounds Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
We welcome into the show. It has sort of been
a week of healing in a lot of ways as
we kind of come to grips. We've gone through the
different stages of getting over getting knocked out of the playoffs,
and with a World series starting tonight, we got another
stage to get to. That's kind of the acceptance stage
that Okay, we're gonna watch the World Series or not.

(03:22):
I mean, I'd really like to watch show hey o
Tani play in the World Series, But that's about it.
Really don't want to watch anything else about it. I
don't want to hear Dave Roberts talk about how he's
excited that the Dodgers are ruining baseball. I don't want
to see the Toronto Blue Jay's happy. I mean, so,
I don't know. It's a torn feeling. I wish you
people wouldn't have ever made me emotional about baseball. I

(03:45):
was doing just fine till I moved here. I know,
thanks a lot.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
I do feel bad because I remember too when I started,
you were like, I'm not an emotional sports fan, and
I've watched the progression over the last couple of years
as you get just as emotional, not just I wouldn't
say just, but you do let emotions play a part, yes,
in your Mariner's watching. And I'd like to just pretend

(04:08):
that the World Series isn't happening.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, yeah, I guess you got that option. I am
curious how I react because it's Friday. I'm really looking
forward to, like a lay back weekend. Because I haven't
had one in a while. Yeah, and I've got Martini Night.
I think that we're going full scale on that perfect
and I always put on usually while we're playing music,

(04:33):
I'll put on a sporting event on mute and just
have it in the background, so, you know, in between
dance sessions, and yes, I do dance during Martini Night,
why wouldn't you. In between dance sessions, I'll pause and
you know, just to I feel like I'm accomplishing a
lot at once, and I'm not a great multitasker to
begin with. So it's really a great feeling, you know,

(04:55):
because I'm you know, enjoying a Martini, dancing, listening to music,
and watching a sporting event all at the same time,
and socializing really with the Unicorn, even though that's way
down the list. So so yes, So I don't know
what I'm gonna put on. I really don't. I don't

(05:16):
know if I will be moved by the moment because
I am such a steam head and just I got
to give in and watch show a take on the
Blue Jays. I don't know if I'll do that or
if I'll flip it to Big ten college football. Maybe
I'll watch that. Yeah, maybe I'll watch a little NBA
since it's back into our lives. I don't know, I
don't know. I don't know how I'm going to approach it.

(05:37):
I don't think I'm going to know until like six
pm tonight. Yeah, I'm sure it will be five is
when the World Series.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, I'm sure it will be on at our house.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
But luckily for me, I get softball practice in the
fifth grade Halloween dance tonight. Oh so, I but if
it makes you feel better, I did already have a.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Dream about it.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
You already have made me feel better, because no matter
what I do tonight, it's better than that. It's better
than that.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Yeah, and I did have I did already have a
dream about Game one of the World Series. I had
this not last night, the night before. Uh, Toronto wins
Game one, so oh really in my dream?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, and I was.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Your third grade teacher there playing second base.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
No, it was really odd because it was actually just
all about the game. And then I was watching the
game and it was really close, and I was getting
really annoyed because I didn't want Toronto to win, and
then they ended up winning at the end.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
So just a run of the mill. You're watching the
World Series dream like you weren't barefoot or anything.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Nothing strange, and my dreams are weird.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
You aren't making out with cal Raleigh again.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
No, not this time in the stands. In the dream
where I was his second.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Girlfriend, we never made out. Okay, that's right, that's right.
I added that. Yeah, maybe I wanted that for you
in your dream. Probably did ye, I appreciate that, But
no a tricycle and the outfield or anything.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Just sitting on the couch next to me and I
was just getting all of them that Toronto was going
to win, and then they won.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Maybe that is a true nightmare, then I think it
might have been. Yeah, maybe the nightmares. Maybe our worst
nightmares are the ones that are so realistic and then
they are go so against the grain. Yeah. I can't
even believe I'm even rooting for the Dodgers, because I
do think their Dodgers are ruining baseball. Yeah, I do too.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I don't want them to win. I don't want Toronto
to win.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, I got to root for the Dodgers in this Canada,
all right. Well, yeah, we got a lot to figure
out emotionally about how we're going to proceed with all.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
We're in a tough spot.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, yeah, we're in a dark place. Yeah, well so
is the NBA as well. I mean, our show plan
got a little disrupted at the beginning, and I'm sure
everybody's show nationally got disrupted. Doesn't matter if you're a
local sports show, national sports show, international sports show. The

(07:54):
NBA scandal breaking right before we came on the air
yesterday certainly impacts every sporting fan out there. But you know,
I didn't really get a lot of the conversation where
I thought that it was gonna go yesterday. It maybe
we're just so used to scandal now. And I'm not
just talking about in the sports world, just in life

(08:15):
in general. You know, maybe we're so used to it now.
I mean that it didn't rock us the way that
I thought it would. It kind of felt to me
like everybody was treating this as an isolated incident and
more of a hurdle, you know, maybe a larger hurdle
than normal, but more of just like, well, the NBA's
got to do the right thing, you know here, and

(08:36):
was it should? Did the NBA screw up by letting
Rogier play that seemed to be the conversations. I mean
when it first happened to me, because I've been around
this industry for a long time. In the past, it
always went to is this going to rock the fans
trust in what they're watching? I mean, they just went
ahead and played NBA games last night, and people went

(08:58):
ahead and made their bets. The whole world just continued.
I mean, scandal or not. And this was a monster scandal.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
This is not small.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
This is one of the biggest ones of my entire career,
my entire lifetime. Yeah, and yet I think maybe that
is it that people are just so used to scandal
that it just it just rolls right off our backs
these days.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yeah, and maybe, but I I.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
I was trying to wrap my head around it yesterday.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
I was explaining some of it to my mom about
it's not even just a sports scandal, like this is
just a big like this was a massive investigation and
bust arresting like thirty eight people over eleven states.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I mean, that's a big damn deal.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
And then you add in the fact that it was
involving sports and rigging, you know, prop bets and things
like that.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
I don't know that doesn't roll off my back.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
That that's it's crazy to me that the NBA did
clear Terry Rosier and they're like.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Well, okay, yeah, he's fine, and then the FBI is like.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Hold on, I mean, we're you going to talk about
for a long time. But it's almost like we just
all right. So Chauncey Billups is done and Terry Rogier's done. Yea,
Damon Jones are They're all done. They're never will never
see them again. I'm not saying they won't ever breathe
free air again, but they're done. Their basketball careers are
over with. But because the thirty eight other people were

(10:17):
not sports figures that got arrested yesterday, and because the
NFL Thursday night football, everybody kind of went through their routine.
I did not watch. I did not go to the
bar last night, so maybe that did affect me a
little bit. Usually I go on Thursday. I think that
has more to do with me just trying to catch up.
And you know, basketball was on, and then I mean

(10:39):
they didn't. They spent time on it on inside the NBA,
and good for them. I wasn't sure on day number
two how Charles and company were going to be allowed
to handle it, but ESPN did not interfere with their
candid nature, which was a relief. It doesn't look like
they're going to try to edit or see what those

(11:01):
four guys say going forward, So that was good. I mean,
the only thing they really got heated about was Kenny
trying to play the addiction card and Charles did not
want to hear it. That was the only thing they
even got heated about. For the most part, everybody on
the set kind of was in agreement that the three

(11:21):
people responsible, you know, their surprise because they knew them personally,
but shame on them, and you know, you betrayed us
and you betrayed the league. That seemed to be the
sentiment on the set, with Kenny trying to defend them a.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Little bit, right, And yeah, and I actually did say
the same thing when I was explaining to my mom, like, well,
because she's I don't understand why people do this, I said, well,
addiction or gambling is an addiction.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
And I kind of just came out and then.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
I thought to myself, but they weren't really the ones gambling, right.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, that's to me, So I am not an addictive personality,
and so It's always been hard for me to sort
of I can sympathize, I can't empathize with what an
addictive person ghoster. I've been around plenty of them. I
always so I'm always like, Okay, I get the drug
and alcohol, the chemical. You're introducing new chemicals into a body.

(12:14):
How are they going to react to your chemicals? Heredity
has something to do with it. Your genes have something
to do with it, whether or not it's in you
to be an addictive personality because of those that came
before you. I get all of that, like the it's
kind of rearranges your thought processes, and so, okay, I

(12:35):
get that one. So it was a harder leap for
me to go to the sympathy for the gambling addict.
But I do understand it. Your brain releases chemicals of
what you're doing, and so over time I've been able
to say, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Yeah, you're craving that high and winning, right, you're craving it.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
You got to be a part of it, you know,
And Okay, So now I've developed over time like sympathy
for that and recognition of how debilitating that that is
and how it can destroy and wreck people. Okay, okay,
I'm with you on that, but this isn't Terry Rosier
and Chauncey Billups couldn't wait to make a bet to
get their fix. These are two people. I mean, was

(13:18):
he also he's addicted to gambling? Is he also addicted
to acting like he's a bad basketball player? I mean,
is Chauncey Billups also addicted to rigging poker games and
keeping an association with known criminals? Is that an addiction?
And yeah, at one point, I'm sure that if he

(13:39):
was involved early in his life that he felt scared
and man, I you know, maybe he was in their debt.
This guy made two hundred million dollars in his career.
How could he have not paid that debt off by now?
How is he still associating with them at this point?
Terry Rogier makes twenty six million dollars a year, So
I mean, maybe if you're going to tell me there

(14:00):
addicted to the high of criminal behavior, maybe. I mean,
we watch movies all the time, like The Sting's one
of my favorite movies of all time, and we love
the characters. We love Paul Newman, we love Robertt, Robert
Redford in that and they win the day, and they
they outsmart the other criminals and everything else. But they're criminals,
and yet they've been painted by Hollywood as people that

(14:22):
we should like. And so, I mean, you can like
Chauncey Billups like apparently everybody in his life does. Nobody
has a bad word to say about Chauncey Billups. But
that doesn't mean he's not acting criminally. That doesn't mean
he's not stealing and bilking innocent people in his thirst
to satisfy whatever adrenaline that creates for him.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
He is.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
So I mean he's addicted to acting criminally, then are
we supposed to have sympathy for that too. Otherwise, let's
let all the serial killers out. They're just addicted to
killing people. It's no big deal. Yeah, I mean, pickpockets
are just addicted to no big deal. Let them all out.
So look, I mean, I will go ahead and accept
the fact that there are people out there, and I

(15:10):
know you weren't waiting on me, but that there are
people out there that need that I need that adrenaline rush.
Had to place that bet you know, fell behind a
little bit or got ahead a little bit and have
to just keep feeding it. But it shouldn't then also
affect you betraying your friends, your boss, your business, your

(15:33):
sport that has made you a millionaire over and over
and over and over again. I mean that to me
can't be put in an addictive category. There are elements
of Rogier and Chauncey that are no doubt addictive, but
that should end at I can't keep myself from placing bets.

(15:53):
It should not be I'm addicted to ruining other people's lives.
I am addicted to betraying my friends, my co workers,
my industry. That to me is not addiction. That's just
you're an a hole. Yeah, and you might be able
to be nice to other people, but you are at
the root of you a criminal, and I don't want

(16:15):
to see you around anymore.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Yeah, at the root of you, you are not a
good person because you brought you knowingly scammed people. I mean,
you're no better than the people that are you know,
sending text messages or calling elderly people and trying to
get them to give them their life savings.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Right, like, you are no.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Better than that, right, I agree?

Speaker 4 (16:32):
And so but that was it was funny because when
I said that to my momm yesterday, and then all
of a sudden, I was like, wait a minute, this
situation like in Chauncey Billips case too. You know, he's
part of these poker games. He's also telling people information
about his players and that they're tanking games.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
And then you know when that's.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Not public and it's not made public till thirty minutes
before the game, that somebody's out and these people are
making thousands of dollars off that information.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I mean that is fully illegal.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Yes, and you are you are abusing your place to profit.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, you have not seen the movie, and I think
this should be illegal as well. I think you should
be arrested for not seeing Guardians of the Galaxy.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Yeah, I should.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
But at the end of the movie there's an exchange
between because they're all the Ravagers the they're actually kind
of criminals who've decided to fight evil okay together, and
so they get to the end of you know, hopefully
spoiler alert, and at the end of the Raccoon Rocket, Yeah,
he's telling John c Riley, who plays a cop, like

(17:37):
but what if I want it more than the person
who owns it? And he's like, no, that's stealing and
that's pretty much illegal, because no, no, you don't understand
what if I want to what if I have to
kill him in order to have it, Like, that's murder,
and that's one of the worst crimes out there. So no,
you can't do that. But we shouldn't have to. Yeah,
we shouldn't if somebody doesn't know those simple rules.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Well, and that's the thing, they know those rules. They
just didn't care.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
They just didn't care. Yeah, and they and their stories
that Rogier was counting the money with the criminals and
at his house and smiling and laughing and everything else.
And so I don't know, it kind of feels to me,
and I know this is the way the NBA wants
it to be. Like, this is not a big scandal.
This is an isolated case with a few individuals connected

(18:25):
to the NBA who got in with the wrong people,
and now they're gonna pay the price. We'll see. I
kind of thought yesterday that it would affect the rest
of professional sports in some way, But I think we're
so used to scandal now in our lives that maybe
we just blow it off. Maybe we just went right
back to, oh, well, watch football tonight. I'm gonna just

(18:47):
trust it justin Herbert's not gonna throw the game away. Yeah,
I know that.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Like ESPN on their are other on get Up or whatever.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
They were talking about it and then quickly deleted the
ESPN bet.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yes, the bottom, but I wonder if it's back today.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
They were very careful with all their gambling sponsors, and
we've got tons of them too, so but but yes,
they were very careful with that, and maybe you don't
have to be. I mean, why are you trying to
hide that? Yeah, I mean you're you've.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Started out in the open legally.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Right right, right? All right, let's find out what's on
tap for the rest of our show today. What's on tip?
What's on tap? Okay? So, the Oklahoma City Thunder back
to back double overtime games and wins to start the season.
I guess that's never happened before that a team has

(19:37):
started the season with two double overtime victories. I think
I overheard that. If that's not accurate, I'm sorry I
didn't look it up in research. I believe it though, Yeah,
I would too. Thursday Night Football, the Chargers just mop
the field with the Minnesota Ikings thirty seven to ten.
The final score. Vikings aren't good, Chargers are and the

(19:58):
Chargers had to get back to playing good football. So
they did it last night. That's a win for Factor fiction. Yep.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
When I was watching, I was like, well done.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
All right, thank you. I appreciate that. Seven thirty five, Ashley,
we'll pick Factor fiction today. Charles Davis is going to
join us. Without the Seahawks playing this weekend, they are
on buy, we might as well talk to an NFL guy,
national guy, and he's so kind, So he's going to
join us at seven o five today to preview the
NFL weekend bad games on Sunday, by the way, one

(20:28):
of the worst schedules I've ever seen as an NFL fan.
I mean, the best thing you're looking at. Chicago at
Baltimore might be the best early game, and that's a
one in five team. Dallas and Denver's a decent game.
And then the Sunday night game, the Aaron Rodgers Bowl.
It'll be Green Bay at Pittsburgh, Husky's host to Illinois. Saturday,

(20:48):
twelve thirty eight, thirty Hanks Show begins. Rick new isl
We skipped him on Tuesday because we had baseball to discuss,
but He's been kind enough to join us here on
a Friday, so you won't miss your Rick new Isel
conversation here on Chuck and Buck will chat with him
at nine. The Cracking with a really nice win. Six
game road trips are not easy, and usually that last
game is the hardest one. But after back to back losses,

(21:10):
the Cracking got it together. Joey Decord was perfect, Jayden
Schwartz had two goals and an assist, and the Kraken
went over the Jets three to nothing. Really enjoyed Ian
and Allison last night. Kind of watched the whole damn
thing last night. They were great in the pregame after
and intermissions. Edmondton at Seattle tomorrow at Climate Pledge Arena
at seven o'clock. Sounders will start their playoff Monday at

(21:33):
six against Minnesota United. We're gonna spend some time on
that Monday and World Series Game number one tonight at
five o'clock Snell versus Y Savage. Meanwhile, the Mariners said
goodbye for the season yesterday. Depoto Hollander Wilson all met
with the media. We're going to do a little bit
on the base on the Mariners today as well, and

(21:55):
we're going to start the offseason. Bucky's not ready to
do it, but he's not here. I am ready to
do it. So we're gonna kind of go player by
player today, not consistently every segment, but we're gonna do
a little snapshot of most of the key players for
the Mariners heading into the off season, and we'll incorporate
that into the ABCS of the MS next Sports Radio

(22:17):
ninety three point three KJRFM. But right now, the ABC's
of the MS. I told you in the previous segment
if you're just joining us, that we're gonna spend a
little time just sort of just a little snap shot
heading into the offseason. I know it's a long offseason,
we got plenty of time to talk about. We're not
even close to the hots. No, we're not even through
the World Series yet, but just I know it's on

(22:38):
people's minds. So just a little snap shot kind of
player by player heading into the off season. And we'll
allow the alphabet to be the guide through a couple
of things to get us started, and we left all
of the letter R yesterday are is for Raleigh. Now.
Fortunately we don't have to worry about cal rally being
on the roster. He has signed long term. Even if

(22:58):
he hadn't been signed to the exten and he would
still be under contract. So cal Raley will be a
Mariner and if they trade him, everyone will be arrested
at the organization. Yeah, so cal Raley, we don't have
to worry about his future. It is a sound but
he will be mentioned here. In about a month from now,

(23:18):
we'll be getting into award season and certainly everybody's wondering
is cal Raley going to win the MVP. My guess
is he's going to finish second, but I think it
is going to be an extremely close vote. Of course,
all of us here in Seattle think that he should
win it, and I think that. I don't think I'm

(23:40):
being biased and saying that, I mean, have a historic
season like he had from the catcher position. I mean,
they're just some things that Aaron Judge I realized that offensively,
he had a more complete season than what cal did
batting average, on base percentage, and so he has some
offensive number that kind of trump I mean, I just

(24:02):
kind of I mean, they're just they dominated this year
significantly better than Col's and everybody in Major League Baseball
and under normal circumstances, that's an MVP. But Aaron Judge
does not play catcher. Aaron Judge does not call games
for the pitchers every single night. Yeah, and so I mean,

(24:24):
to me, it's cal Raley your MVP. I do think
he's got a shot. I probably put it at like
forty three percent shot at winning the MVP. But it
feels like Aaron's the favorite right now, and that's that's
just wrong.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Yeah, it does feel like he's the favorite. I don't
think he should be. I understand why. I mean, he's
an amazing baseball player. I understand his merits, all of it.
I just think not enough is being put into the
fact of what col does aside from hitting, and it
should be a massive part of the calculation.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah. Yeah, everybody's putting giving it credence, everybody's giving it credibility.
It's just are you giving it enough? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (25:05):
I don't think That's what I don't.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
Think has happening exactly. It's like yeah, yeah, yeah, he.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Plays every day. Like that's kind of how they talk
about it, like.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Yeah, he's maintaining the pitching or you know, doing calling
games all these things.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
It's like, yeah, that's a big damn deal.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Now. The other thing about the ours for Raleigh is,
you know, I heard a lot of people throughout the year,
we can't waste this historic season. Well we didn't. I mean, yeah,
we didn't make it to the World Series. But Aaron
Judge got knocked out in the first in the second
round of the playoffs, I mean, we made it further
than that. I mean, it's a regular season thing. Yes,

(25:37):
he had a historic season, but the playoffs, if you
don't understand by now, it's just a completely different animal. Yeah,
I mean, it doesn't matter if he hit ninety home
runs during the regular season. You still got to win
as a team in the postseason. You got to take
advantage of breaks that you're given, you got to overcome
breaks that go against you. There's a lot that goes
into winning a playoff series. So his history season really

(26:01):
didn't you know, it was? It did? It wasn't wasted
because we wanted a vision we gotta buy. We made
it all the way to the ALCS, So no, it
was not wasted. It's a regular season accomplishment though, and
it doesn't matter how historic of a regular season you
had run the postseason begins. It's just a completely different animal. Yeah,

(26:24):
as this for second base, I know I hear a
lot of people like, what are we going to add?
What are we going to add in the offseason, i'd
prepare yourself. I don't think there's gonna be a lot
of additions to this team. And I know people are
going to lay that on payroll. I'm going to lay
that a little on payroll. We know what we're up again,

(26:44):
we know how this ownership operates, but also where we
really they have a lot of confidence in the guys
that they already have. So do we go out there
and overspend for the best second basement on the market,
I mean Bob Baschett. They believe it is going to
be moved to second base by next year. He's a

(27:05):
free agent. Do you go out and get a Bob
Baschett and make him your second baseman? Well, they got
an awful lot invested in Cole Young being the future
at second base, and even though he wasn't great this year,
there was certainly a lot you saw where I kind
of like him. I think he is He's going to
be good. I don't think he's ever going to be great,
but I think he's going to be good for a

(27:26):
long period of time. They like Ryan Bliss, who lost
the season to injury. Leo Revas ended up being put
in our starting lineup for the last few games of
the season, so there's obviously something there. And Jorge Polonko.
We wantje Polonko back, right Well, they tried him at
third base, it was a failed experiment. Second base in

(27:48):
DH is probably where he's going to fit if we
bring him back next year. So I don't think there's
going to be some high cost or high expenditure on
a second basement. I think they're going to stay in
house with this position, with Polonko being re signed and

(28:10):
with Cole Young pretty much being your everyday second basement.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
And I'm okay with that, honestly, because they came to you.
I do want Polanco back, and I like to see
the young guys, you know, getting the opportunity and making
the most of it.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Look, you have to. Everybody does it, even the Dodgers
do this. You know you want to. You want to
fill out your entire lineup with inexpensive young players that
you can keep for years to come, and then you
fill in the cracks with Okay, well, that didn't quite
work out. So who can we get and how much
does it going to cost us to get that guy

(28:43):
to play third base or right field or whatever the
case may be. But if you can solve it, even
the Dodgers will do this. If you can solve a
position with a young player under years of control, who
you think is good now and has great upside, you
go with that. Yeah, everybody does that. So it's not
a sin to sit here and say, let's bring Polonko back.

(29:07):
He can play second, maybe third, certainly DH, but Cole
Young's our future at second base, and we don't want
to interfere with that. Yeah. And finally, just quickly, t
is four Toronto. Here's another thing I heard throughout the
entire process about the Blue Jays and why they were
so dangerous, and that, oh, they just do such a
great job of putting the ball in play. Yes, something

(29:28):
we've been screaming about for years that we wanted to
see the Mariners do a better job of. And they
did it this year. And I think a lot of
the credit goes to Kevin Seitzer and Edgar Martinez and
a change in offensive philosophy. But a few years ago
we tried. The front office tried to cut a couple

(29:49):
of guys that struck out way too much and brought
in a couple of guys that they felt theoretically weren't
going to strike out as much. And Mariner fans lost
their minds, how can we get rid of Gino and
Taoscar Hernandez for Mitch Garvin, Hora Polanco And in the
first year it didn't work. We struck out even more.
And yet that was what they were trying to accomplish,

(30:11):
was to bring in guys who could be productive, who
could hit the long ball, who could drive in runs
but not strike out as much, so we could put
the ball in play. So, you know, if you want
a team that looks like Toronto, then you got to
sacrifice guys like Gino Suarez from your roster to bring
in guys that make contact. So what do you really want,
Mariner fans, what do you really want at this position?

(30:34):
You seem to hate Ben Williamson and that guy put
the ball in play. He just didn't hit home runs
like Gino does. So what do you want from them
going forward? Because, believe me, those scrappy guys like Andre
Samenez that put the ball in play. They're cheaper than
the guys that hit home runs. So you know, we
could go down that road. But the last time we

(30:55):
tried to go down the road, number one, it didn't work,
and number two, you lost your minds before before we
even conducted the experiment. So yeah, I understand the merits
of an entire lineup that is good at putting the
ball in play, but sacrifices have to be made in
other areas in order to get that done. All right,
Coming up next, we're gonna talk some Seahawks football and

(31:16):
one of the juicy topics this week about what might
be the best receiver in the National Football League. Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJRFM all first down, looking
for the end zone. Course it's stiff the chickbaw with
the catch and then he slams the football over the
upright to celebrate the touchdown. Jesn even makes fifteen yard

(31:42):
penalties look cool. I know, right, that was awesome. I mean,
I've seen the slam dunk over the goal posts plenty
of times in my life, and now they've made it illegal,
and I think it's because it makes the goal post crooked,
and it just is an inconvenience for everybody. Yeah, but
nobody's made it look cooler than what he did because
he hung on the rim and he did it left handed,

(32:03):
and he did it spread eagle, and then he just
kind of looked around at everybody to say, I might
be the best receiver in the National Football League and
no one's talking about it.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Yeah, And he's like, but I'm gonna hang here for
a minute. Yeah me.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
Oh, He's like, take a pick, man, Yeah, I like
a fine lot.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
What a fine from John Schneier. My goodness. I mean,
I think he was the number one wide receiver on
their board in that draft, but for him to have
fallen to them at that point, I mean, I get it.
I mean, Jamar Chase is amazing, and Justin Jefferson is amazing,
but I'm not sure that JSN doesn't already belong in

(32:42):
the same conversation. He is one hundred and ninety yards
ahead of Jamar Chase in receiving yards this year. Jamar
Chase is second in the National Football U almost two
hundred yards. We've only played seven games and he's almost
two hundred yards ahead of Jamar Chase, who gets targeted
twenty times a game by the Bengals. Now he doesn't

(33:03):
have Joe Burrow, hasn't had Joe Burrow all season long.
But that hasn't stopped them from targeting him constantly. And
I realize that that's become a bit of a topic,
and I get exactly where Hugh Millan is coming from.
You might be stunting Tory Orton's growth. You could potentially
risk Cooper Cup getting aggravated. Hey, I came here, yeah,

(33:25):
to win, but I also like to be targeted. I
don't know if that's going to really affect Cooper Cup
all that much. I don't think he has quite that.
I don't know if he's counting his targets. Maybe he's,
you know, complaining a blue streak behind the scenes. I
have no idea, but I do think there is something too.
If he's that special, then I don't know if you

(33:46):
do have to worry about targeting him too much. If
he's getting open that easily, don't you want to throw
it to the most sure handed, best playmaker that you
have on your roster. I know Hugh whose argument bears
a lot of merit that yes, probably for the greater picture,

(34:06):
we do have to spread the ball around a little
bit more, But I really don't want to come at
the expense of JSN targets, because he comes through every time.
He's that good. He is exceptional. He might be already
on the top shelf of wide receivers in the National
Football League, and he could be just getting started. Who

(34:27):
knows how good this guy's going to become.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Yeah, I kind of think of him too as like
a mix between DK and Tyler Lockett. And last year
everybody was like, oh, is he only getting open because
DK's you know, being double.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Timed, demanding so much attention.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
So much attention.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
But his size and his quickness reminds me more of
like Tyler Lockett's ability to make some really incredible catches,
and just kind of the chemistry that Russell Wilson and
Tyler Lockett had is it is kind of what we're
seeing a little bit with Sam Darnold and with JSN.
And then also though just the pure gil that DK had,

(35:01):
not the athletic not the size and athleticism that DK had, but.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
He was more skilled than DK.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Well yeah, yeah, sorry, but I'm saying the size and
the ability to just kind of overtake people, he doesn't
have that, but he's got I mean, he's just he's
incredible to watch.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Yeah, well we've got quite the gift. So JSN just
having a phenomenal season and Ice he just keep going
to it.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Yeah, you don't need to change things. Yeah it's working.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
I mean, yeah, I want I want our tight ends
more involved, and I want Cooper Cup to be happy,
and I want to develop Tory Horton. But I don't
know if I want any of those things more than
I do. JSN getting thrown the ball when he's open, Yeah,
because he's just incredible. Wow. All right, Charles Davis, we'll

(35:47):
ask him about JSN in our next segment. He's pinchitting
