Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time to talk all things college football.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's just like the menu at Taco Time.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
You just can't get enough.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
You just can't get enough.

Speaker 4 (00:07):
This is our weekly visit with Rick Neuheisel, brought to
you buy Taco Time.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Not those new Heidels. Used to be a moniker of mine.
I mean just sell you know.

Speaker 4 (00:16):
Now on your home for college football Saturdays, here's Nacho's
new Heidel on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
R FM.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
This is college football and I want you to get
it all over yourself.

Speaker 5 (00:30):
Rick new Isel every week, usually on Tuesdays. So let
me first by saying thank you for accommodating our baseball
coverage and then still joining us this week here on
a Friday, wouldn't been the same not chatting with you
this week.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Always a pleasure to talk college football with you. And
I'm so sorry about the Mariners, but what a great
year anyway.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, it was a great year.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
And after a little bit of time, most people are
going togs accept that.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Right right now, they're having a hard time with it.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Coach understood. You get that close to the to the fruit,
it's difficult to come away empty handed. But that just
makes us hungrier. Next year.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
I got to ask, I want to start our conversation
by asking you about this NBA story yesterday and what
kind of reaction you think the powers that be in
college football had to it. I think the NFL Roger Goodella,
should have sent a warning to him, and I would
think that college football as well. How difficult it is

(01:32):
for college coaches everybody involved to have to deal with
the specter that is the popularity, overwhelming popularity of gambling.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, it's fascinating. As a matter of fact, on Sports Center,
I think it was Greeny right that were sitting there
talking about the story, and they had ESPN bet on
the bottom third on that little signboard right that does
all the advertising, and they had to end up taking
it off because it was embarrassing. But we are in

(02:04):
a world where gambling is prevalent and everybody's making a
ton of money off it. As a matter of fact,
on November first, every college athlete and college coach can
bet on pro sports because they can't keep up with it.
There's no way to monitor what you're doing, so they're
going to say go ahead and bet. You remember last year,
a couple of kids at both Iowa State and Iowa

(02:26):
were deprived of their eligibility for you know, being on
those DraftKings things, or using their parents' DraftKings accounts to
bet on games. It's prevalent. It's just out there, and
these prop bets are really scary because now individuals can
literally just say I'm not going to play after I
start a game and basically make sure that anybody who

(02:47):
bet on the under is correct. So I get, I
get why we're in this world. What I can understand
is these guys making millions and millions of dollars, risking
all that for money that can't be anywhere close to that,
right what they're already yearning. It can't be, and yet

(03:09):
they find themselves. To me, there's something suspicious about this,
and it feels like they're being extorted, like somebody's got
something on them and they're being forced to do things
that these these you know, cartels or mafia or whatever, right,
the Cosa Nostra, well, whatever it is, it's forcing. It
seems like they're being coerced to go along because there's

(03:32):
some some information that they just don't want out there.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
Yeah, I've floated this out earlier in the show. Is
there any problem with just you can only bet the over,
you know. Therefore, if you lose, you know, then you lose,
you don't get the over. But it would de incentivize
people from players from being tempted to take money to

(03:58):
drop games or drop passes, or whatever the case may be.
I don't know if I've had enough time to think
about that, but I would think that NFL College Football
want to align with the people that run these daily
prop services. They know they're not going to get rid
of them, but can we work together to figure out
how we can streamline this process so that we aren't

(04:19):
made to look suspicious game after game for years to come.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Well, it wasn't so long ago. Remember, Hey, we had
this scandal in college basketball where all the shoe companies
guys were kind of they arrested four different assistant coaches
around the country on the same day. These stories yesterday
in the NBA were not parallel. I mean, the one
was about you know, performing at or pulling himself out

(04:46):
of a game to make sure that people who voted
on his props would have benefited. The other was a
poker game. I mean, the fact that they announced them
both on the same day seems to me like a
kind of a media scheme rather than and then necessarily
a expose onto a real problem. From this standpoint, so listen,

(05:06):
what did you think was going to happen when you
when you started putting all this stuff out there and
the ability to press send on your phone to make
a bet. What do you think was going to happen?
So it is a reminder that we've got to monitor it,
monitor it closely. But the technology out there to you know,
uncover irregularities is pretty amazing and I'm glad for it.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
Yeah, we have bets out there where you can bet
on a backup to guard to have fewer assists than
a number.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Incredible, it's incredible.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
It's incredible how we've thin it out that much.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, yeah, it's it's amazing what's available. And uh uh,
be careful of what you wish for in life.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
I want to ask you about another big picture topic.
I don't think it was a coincidence that Nebraska played
its worst game of the year last week with their
coach being rumored to be going to Penn State and
not denying those rumors. I'm not sure it was a
coincidence that Washington played so poorly against Michigan Because even
if Jedfish is not involved in other head coaching possibilities,

(06:13):
the fact that the rumor was out there, I do
wonder what kind of effect that has on eighteen to
twenty two year olds as they're getting ready for their
preparation to remain focused on what's the big picture here.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Well, maybe you're aware of what Matt Ruhle did or
didn't do in terms of talking with this team about it,
or Jed did or didn't do it talking to his
team about what's out there, as you know, considered the noise.
I'm not aware. But those things are distractions. And for
the coach who said no distractions, the great Bill Belichick,

(06:48):
he's been fraught with them.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Right.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
There have been more distractions at North Carolina than you
could ever shake a stick at. And so as the
coach listen, we understand that that's a good thing. When
they're being sought by other programs, that means they're doing
a good job, that they're considered that kind of elite coach.
That's all good. But those conversations, and they need to

(07:11):
be honest. Conversations with the team are essential so that
you can get back to the focus of what's really important.
Nebraska's got a tough game this week. They got Northwestern, who,
by the way, very quietly has won their last three,
including a win over Penn State at Penn State and
a shutout of Purdue last week. So to me, this

(07:33):
is an interesting game in Lincoln, and if Matt Ruhle
has any interest in being the coach at Penn State,
he needs to win because Penn State fans aren't going
to settle for a guy who can't beat Minnesota and Northwestern.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Yeah, that's a great way of looking at it.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Rick new Eisl is with us our college football insider
joining us here of course from CBS Sports as he
gets ready for another big college football weekend. And you
know Jedfish, we all know he's a terrific offensive mind.
How do you explain why the offense here for the
Huskies is getting off to just horrendously slow starts. I mean,

(08:12):
more often than not picked it up in the second half,
but they just can't get off to a good start offensively.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
You know, I don't know if the different time zones
have anything to do with that. I know, in talking
to my son who's going to be playing at Indiana tomorrow.
That you know the complications of leaving two days before
is an irregularity, and so forth. At the end of
the day, this offense goes as Demon Williams goes, and

(08:40):
Demon Williams in the two games that they've lost is
negative and rushing. I think one game he was negative
eighteen maybe that was this last weekend against Michigan, and
minus twenty nine against Ohio State. I think Jed needs
to spend more time figuring out absolutely calculated runs rather
than just rely eyeing on him to make plays with

(09:02):
his legs, which obviously is a bonus. But I think
to find more ways for him to be featured in
the running game will unlock a little bit more of
that offense and get him off to a faster start,
maybe eliminate some of those turnovers which happen predominantly in
third and long situations.

Speaker 5 (09:19):
Have they started this Jerry new Eiel statue yet there
near poly pavilion or oh.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Goodness, huh, huh, huh. We don't need any more of
that talk. I wrote my son. I wrote my son
a poem the other day. I said, listen, the true
competitor never listens to the fuss because if you do,
it'll be like being run over by a bus, and
while you're laying there splattered, you'll remember what mattered. At
the end of the day. It's all about us. This

(09:47):
is not about you. This is not about anybody in particular.
It's about the team finding a way to get ready
for the next one. Stop listening to the chatter because
it just doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
I liked that it was Susie and more than it
was Maya Angelo like it was.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Very very doctor suit. That's the extent of my literary Uh,
that's the extent of my literary prowess.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Right there, New isil with us, all right, So before
we get too far away from you, dub Illinois. I
just talked about this about an hour ago. You're going
to get a good effort from Illinois. I'm not sure
what kind of performance we're going to get out of Washington.
So how do you how do you match these two up?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
You know?

Speaker 6 (10:33):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Brett Baelima is a unique character in the world of
college coaching. He's the first that I think I know
of that put his offensive line on the cover of
the Media Guide several years ago while coaching at Arkansas.
He's born in the world noseguard. He's all about French warfare,
and yet this team is not the most physical. This

(10:55):
is this is not his usual team. It's really about
his quarterback, Luke Altmeyer, and their ability to kind of
come from behind. Altmeyer's got six come from behind victories
as the quarterback at Illinois, which is the most in
the Big Ten. I think Washington will be fine in
this game, again, assuming that Demon Williams gets back to

(11:16):
being able to run the ball for positive yardage. That
puts the defense on the heels, and that's not been
Illinois strength and they really don't have a running game
to challenge that and control the ball like maybe Ohio
State did when the last time Washington lost a home game.
So to me, I like the dogs in this game,

(11:37):
but they've got to get back to playing air free
and Demon Williams football.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Diego Pavia's heisman pose premature or prophetic.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I think this kid's just I think this kid's just
the coolest. I met him at the SEC media days,
and he is who he says he is. It is
not act. He is charming as the day is long.
You would love him, and I'm here for it. I
just think This is the coolest story. Obviously, I am

(12:09):
a little bit biased because Clark Lee was on my
staff at UCLA and I'm really proud of what's happening there.
But this Diego guy has given Vanderbilt and the entire
university an edge, and that edge is fun to watch,
and it's not an accident. When was the last time, Chuck,
you heard Vanderbilt scoring forty one points a game? Never,

(12:30):
that's Vanderbilt, That's never right. They were favored last week
against LSU for the first time since nineteen forty seven.
So this is rare air stuff and I'm here for it.
And while Missouri's having a great year, and Eli Drinkwitz
is also you know, a guy that probably needs the
brass up re up him because he's going to be

(12:52):
in the all these coaching searches, whether it be at
Florida or Penn State. I think Vanderbilt gets the win.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Ole Miss at Oklahoma. Obviously Old Miss can't afford to
slide here. And yet Lane Kiffen was involved in some
of those coaching rumors this week, So how does he
convince his players he's not going anywhere and that they
need to be focused on Oklahoma?

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Well, the good news at Ole Miss is this is regular. Yeah,
he's always in the coaching turch. You recall the Auburn
game not so very long ago, although they ended up
losing that game to Mississippi State. So this is, you know,
the usual suspects. Now the Jimmy Sexton client list is
all out there, so I don't think this impacts. But

(13:39):
I do think Oklahoma wins the game because Oklahoma's front
seven can stop the run. As good as Trinidad Sambliss
has played, he can't gloss over the fact that that
defense gave up a bunch of points last week to Georgia.
And I think John Mattier having another week to heal
and including his legs in the offense is enough for

(14:00):
you to get the win.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
In Norman LSU and Texas A and M. As Marcel
Reid getting overlooked in this Heisman talking, is that good
for him? And then secondarily are they a national championship contender?
I mean, everybody you've put in front of them this
year they've mowed down.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I think this is a giant stage for A and M.
Obviously the A and M. The A and M victory
at Notre Dame was that, but it was so early
in the season, and the fact that Miami that Notre
Dame had lost the first week, we weren't sure how
good Notre Dame was. They're showing us they're pretty good.
I think this is a great coming out party for

(14:37):
Marcel Reid. This defense has been unbelievable and we got
a kind of patched up offensive line. No running game
for LSU. They're going to play with a freshman left tackle.
I like A and M in this game. And if
Marcel Reid plays like he's been playing, I think we're
going to add him to the list of candidates, which
now include Diego, Fernando, Trinidad, and Marcel.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
That sounds like like a boy band. That isn't Caribbee.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Isn't a boy band? I don't know exactly right.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Isn't that Menudo? I believe those are the four guys
that were in Menudo? If I'm not mistaken. All right,
what's your what's our Taco Time pick of the week here?

Speaker 2 (15:24):
So this one came to be by by way of
Dick Fain. Yesterday he reminded me that Toledo is a
favorite in Pullman. This weekend, the Rockets are a good team,
and but they're not that rocket strength this year, they
have been a little bit porous by their own standards. Uh.

(15:45):
Jason Kandell, the quarter the coach there, I think, would
say this is not one of his best teams. And
they traveled to the police and the Cougar's returned from
the road. Uh where he team that went on the
road and took Ole Miss to twenty one loss and
lost to Virginia, a top twenty team twenty to twenty.

(16:05):
I think Washington State as a dog here is ridiculous.
I'm taking the Cougar.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
I think that's great pick man.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
I'm barely impressed with what Rodgers has done here turning
this thing around, because first couple of weeks I'm like, ooh, that's.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Been that's been inspired football. I mean, holy smolks, And
Toledo is not the great Toledo teams that we've seen
in the MAC. This is doable. I love this ex
house kid to continue a trend to playing great on weekends.
So give me the coke.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
All right.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
I'm just gonna warn you right now, if the Bruins
beat the Hoosiers this weekend, your son won't even accept
your mail.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
More poems, kick in the offing, more more Susian, more
Susian wisdom ahead of his way. You know I gave
him a little Yoda too, do or not do? There
is no try.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
Put forward your best son, And if.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
You look in the mirror, I'm looking a little more
Yoda ask every day.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
Well, all we gotta do if we want to remember
Rick new Heisel in his prime is look at Jerry
new Heisel, because it's the exact same person.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
All right, thank you, coach.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
We'll hope for better for him.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
We'll hope for.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Rick new Isle joining us right here on Chuck and
Buck in the Morning, of course's segment every week, usually
on Tuesdays at nine, brought to you by Taco Time.
So all right, a lot of good college football this weekend.
And I'm gonna go ahead and wrap up my agenda
here today by talking about the Mariners starting pitchers on
the other side and what's going to happen with them

(17:49):
in the off season. Sports Radio ninety three point three
kJ RFM. No, I don't mean to lecture from earlier
with the Major League Baseball and like you can have

(18:10):
your wish list for the off season, but I just
think that too many marin or fans out there. They
put together these like things that not even the Mets do. Yeah,
you know, I want all three of the top free agents.
You know that we're probably not even gonna get one
of the top free agents. And if that's the standard
that you're setting for the front office, do this or

(18:31):
I'm going to be angry and.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Call you cheap all year long. Then they there's no win.

Speaker 6 (18:36):
Nobody everyone up for a failure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree.
That's like with one soda. If the Mirrors don't get
one soda, I'm angry. If the Marriors don't get Trevor
Story or Chris Bryant. Well those didn't work out that great,
but people were going to be pissed if you didn't
get them. It's like, come on, you just got to say,
they got to make moves, they got to improve the team,
They've got to build this, keep the solid foundation going.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
I mean, you can set your sights on some free
agency out there, maybe like a Cody Bellinger or a
Bobashett or a Trevor Story's a free agent again by
the way, or Max Muncy. I mean those are potentially doable.
Even though I don't think we're going there this offseason.
I think we're re signing Josh Naylor. I think we're
re signing or A Polanco. If the price is right.

(19:21):
We might bring Geno back next year. And then when
you add arbitration to that, then all of a sudden,
you are adding to your payroll and you're going to
end up where you were at the end of this
past season, which Jerry Depoto said very plainly, we'll probably
start next season's payroll where we ended at.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
This past year. That's progress, by the way.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
And I'm just never going to think that this organization
is going to change its stripes and suddenly become the
New York Mets of spending. It's just not going to happen.
I'm okay with that game plan going into this off season.
Another wrinkle to the off season could be, and Bucky

(20:03):
brings us up all the time, his conversation that he
had with John Stanton a couple of years ago about
keeping those that you have and extending them before they
become free agents, using the last two years or three
years of their original contracts to try to bargain your
way toward a long term contract. They certainly did it

(20:27):
with Cal. I mean Cal signed a six year, one
and five million dollar contract. I mean, do you understand
what a bargain that.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Looks like right now?

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah, it's incredible.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
I mean the highest he's going to max out at
is at twenty three million dollars during this contract, Wan
Soto makes more than twice that.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Who is a better player this year?

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Cal?

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Cal?

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Right, wasn't close, not even close. And that's an average
of seventeen and a half million. He's still not even
really making He made one million dollars this year. Yeah,
Maygan eleven next year, so we have him at eleven
million dollar value for next season and just twelve and
twenty twenty seven, so seventy and a half million dollars.

(21:10):
So all of a sudden, here come the pitchers. We
know that their paydays are coming or they're not going
to be here, and you know they're going to command
a lot if they ever reached free agency. Logan Gilbert
looks like he's the next in line to get one
of these John Stanton early extensions.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Jerry was asked about it yesterday. Yeah, I will talk too.
Before that, was it?

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Noll clots of Logan before we talk to anybody else.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
That was it.

Speaker 5 (21:42):
Yeah, Logan himself told Softy and Fame when he was
on with him about two months ago that hasn't been broached,
but that he is interested.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
And I don't think he really wants to leave Cow.

Speaker 5 (21:52):
I don't, And so I think of all the guys,
he's going to be the one most willing to pay
play ball. That said, that's still even if his agent
and Logan decide to take less. You're probably looking. I mean,
a top ten salary for a major league pitcher is

(22:12):
twenty seven million dollars per year. That's a top ten pitcher. Okay,
Max Freed most recently, this is just this past offseason,
and that's kind of who I would compare Logan to
in terms of quality, accomplishments, where they're at in their careers.
Got twenty seven point twenty five million dollars per year

(22:35):
from the Yankees just this offseason, So at similar age,
similar accomplishments, and hitting the market at a similar time.
All right, now, I think Max Freed was already at
free agency where you would be buying out a couple
of years of Cal Rawley's first contract.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Okay, So I think.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
You would get him for less, but you're probably not
getting him less than twenty five. I mean Robbie Ray.
We signed Robby Ray to a twenty five million dollars
per year deal. Yeah, so think about a couple of
years of inflation after the Robbie Ray signing and you're
probably looking at twenty three to twenty five million dollars

(23:14):
per year. That's probably what you're looking at on average.
And that's with buying out the last two years of
the deal for Logan Gilbert Well, I.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Jumps it up quite a bit.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
Now you don't have to start paying him twenty five
million dollars next year, but I think that's that's where
it's gonna And imagine the poop talking between Logan and
Cal at that point.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
I mean it would be kluss. I would want them
both to be micd up twenty four hours.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
They think they're such a good friends and Logan's such
a sweetheart they probably would never ever rub that in.
But he's going to make more money than Cal rabble, yeah,
I mean, his agent's going to make sure of it.
So that's what you're looking at. I mean, if for
those that were thinking, all right, let's go ahead and
get Logan locked in right now, let's get ahead of it.
Still probably looking at a twenty three to twenty five

(24:02):
million dollars per year salary for Logan Gilbert going forward,
And like I said, I don't think that's going to
impact the payroll in twenty twenty five or see me,
twenty twenty six. Might not even affect the payroll all
that much in twenty twenty seven, but eventually it will
when Cow's making his twenty three and Julio's making his
twenty five or whatever, and Logan's gonna be making his twenty.
Now you see that payroll starting to jump up. Now

(24:24):
you see why maybe they're a little cautious, yeah, about
adding free agents when they know that the bills coming
due on all of these young starting pitchers.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
And then the next year it's George.

Speaker 6 (24:36):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
And I've said all along, I don't think that they're
going to go with Logan and George. I think they're
going to go Logan. And my guess is they're gonna
get one more year of cheap George and then have
two years left on his deal, and you can really
fetch an incredible trade package for George Kirby, and then

(24:58):
I think they'll let another couple of years pass, and
then they'll make a decision between Miller and Wu based
off of health probably and they're going to do the
same thing. One of them will get locked up, the
other one that will probably trade with multiple years left
on their deal and kind of restock things, or I mean,
you can get significant pieces for quality young pitchers with

(25:19):
multiple years left on their small original contracts before they
actually start making big money. Also, keeping mind Kate Anderson's
coming yep, and that is one of the most major
league ready starting pitchers I've ever seen at college. I mean,
he's not Paul Skeen's, he's not doesn't have that kind
of upside, but in terms of floor, that guy's ready
to pitch and the majors sooner than later.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
So he's going to enter this equation very soon.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
And I wonder if it will come at the cost
of Luis Castillo being on this roster next season, And that,
more than maybe anything else this offseason is something to
monitor because if they do have to create money for
this free agent player or or this trade acquisition that
everybody wants to add to the offense, then it's going

(26:07):
to have to probably come at the cost. I don't
think they're going to go told you yesterday, we're not
going to go twenty five million dollars over our payroll
that we have right now, So we're not going to
play in that box sandbox. So if we are to
add a significant piece, that means they're going to subtract
something from the current roster. And there is zero question

(26:29):
what the most logical choice would be Luis Castillo with
Kate Anderson on the way making twenty four million dollars
for each of the next two years. And I know
he is the leader of the group. He really is
the leader of that pitching group. But these other guys
now have enough experience that collectively they can lead themselves.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Or maybe it's Brian woot that steps into that leadership role,
who knows.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
But I don't think that they have to have the
veteran around anymore, is my point. I think they got
enough experience in this league that they can handle it
alone without big brother being around. And so if they're
going to create any kind of money to add something
of significance this offseason, it probably comes from them subtracting
Luis Castillo and just to tell you, I don't think

(27:14):
you'll get a big return for him. I think that
you will mostly get the payment relief and then I
think that you will get some pieces in return in
that kind of deal. So that's the starting pitching as
I see it, landscape for this offseason, for the marriage.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Yeah, and I think that makes the most sense.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
I mean, we even had started talking about the idea
of moving Luis Castillo last year.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
So yeah, I mean it's not surprising.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
Yeah, I don't think that it should be. And if
it does happen, I don't think you should be surprised. No,
they do love him, yeah, I will say that, have
him too, Yeah. Yeah, but you know they're also grown ups.
We're all adults, and we understand that it is a
business and in order to pay Logan and then maybe eventually,
George or Brian or whoever, you might not be able

(28:00):
to keep a aging twenty four million dollars starting pitcher
on your roster.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Yeah, just might not be able to do it. All right.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
We'll close out the show the week with Booze News
Next Sports Radio ninety three point three KJARFM.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Oh what a couple of weeks, What a couple of weeks.
I tell you, yeah a lot.

Speaker 5 (28:23):
Yeah, So we come to Friday. You know how we
close out the show. You know how we close out
the weeks. So let's do it.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
I'm Ashley and this is the Booze News.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Cheez Cherier's graz.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Booze News is sponsored by Ben Holiday Bourbon. Pick up
a bottle of Ben Holiday Bourbon. This football season, team

Speaker 5 (29:03):
Then Holiday sounds like a whiskey maker from Missussurra.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
Also sounds like a real holiday treat.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
It is yes, right past my lips.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
Well, let's just say it. This week's Booze News is
way suckier than last week's. Oh yeah, last week, we
had hope, we had belief, we had knots in our
stomach and stress diarrhea.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
That was great, It was really great.

Speaker 6 (29:25):
This week, we've got an atmospheric river to wash away
our tears and that's it. Yeah, we've got other sports,
and yeah, those sports matter. There's an emptiness in our
hearts where the World Series was supposed to be.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
There's a hole in our heart that could only be
filled by it.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
And that's the truth.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
Now we've got Game one of that stupid series tonight,
and I hope both teams lose, which apparently can't happen
to these This sucks it cuz, yes, it was an
exciting ride. There were some spectacular moments, and we got
to make memories as Mariners fans, and all of those
are amazing. But the wound, it's still wide open, and

(30:05):
it is a gaping hole of emotions.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Hmm.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Thank goodness for booze.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
We drink when we're celebrating, and we drink when we've
fallen into a pit of despair.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
So that's fun.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Cheer. Thanks Ben Holiday, Thanks Ben Holiday.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
At least we have the Seahawks to pick us up
this weekend. Oh wait, bye week great timing.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Yeah, we could have poured our emotions into football again.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
Yeah, gosh, Well, the Kraken are coming off a road
win and headed back home tonight, and that is exciting.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
It doesn't seem like or it does.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
Seem like it's a different feeling with this team under
Lane Lambert, even though I cannot put in my head
that that's his actual real name. Yeah, And every time
I write it then I have to go Google it
to make sure it's his real name.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
And I didn't make it up in my head.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
I know what you're thinking. You think his name is
Count Dracula.

Speaker 6 (30:50):
And then when I think of Lambert, I think of
like Lambert, and I'm like, he's not a sheepish lion.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Oh, he's a vampire.

Speaker 5 (30:56):
He's the only vampire coaching a major professional sports team
here in America and Canada.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
And we've got that going for us. Yeah, which is great.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Time we're gonna be terrible during day games.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
I am a fan, Burt, I just made that up.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
Are you a fan? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:12):
So far, so far, so good.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
I'm excited to see what the Cracking can do this season,
hopefully a playoff run that doesn't rip my heart from
my chest with one pitch.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
Yeah, I'm telling you what if George comes in, slaps
one from the blue line and beats us in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
I give up all sports that happens.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
The Huski's host the ferocious fighting the lion I tomorrow,
and I'm really hoping for a win at home.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
They need it.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Yeah, yeah, we need it.

Speaker 6 (31:41):
Yeah, coming off last week. Yeah, just get a solid
win in the rain. Give those fans that are gonna
tough it out.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Look on behalf.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
With all my love for Washington, you know you can't
take the Illinois completely out of the boy.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
I'm sorry in advance that you're having to face such
a powerhouse.

Speaker 6 (31:57):
Yeah on Saturday, yep, I agree.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
It is a tough test. Well, you're a.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Favorite, though. Think about that accomplishment.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
That's pretty incredible, right, Yeah, favorite against that jugger?

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Not how did that happen?

Speaker 6 (32:11):
The NBA at least distracted us from some of our
misery by unloading a massive scandal involving the actual mafia
on It's yesterday, Like the actual mafia. I don't want
to say it too loud in case they're listening. At
least we don't have to worry about it.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
By the way, are keep up the great one?

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Yeah, really killing it really like what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Yeah, I like what you said. There.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
At least we don't have to worry about anyone on
our NBA team being involved more despair.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
Ah, it's got a bucket loaded despair.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
So much despair. I'm done.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
Okay, I'm done. We got a hole in our buckets.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Well we got, dear Liza, we.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Got a holy inner bucket, Dear Laza.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
All right, nicely done. Sorry about your despair. I know,
I know, I know, but you know what. Let's go
enjoy a weekend poring rain, watching softball and other sports,
and then we'll come back Monday and better spirits. Okay,
