Jacobson and Ashley Ryan. That's right, from now until ten
o'clock this morning, you are gonna get your fill of
analysis on the wonderful sport of football. MBA bore right
here on Chuck and Buck in the morning, Sports Radio
(00:50):
ninety three point three kJ RFM. Thank you, Titos, Thank
you for all that you do for us. And we
get underway on a Friday. Welcome into the show. And
my goodness, we're gonna have playoff baseball played tomorrow and
we now know our opponent. It will be the Detroit
Tigers that we will stare in the eye. We'll stare
(01:12):
right into the eye of the Tiger. Rocky Balboa. Yeah,
and we will back you down. Don't sing their song?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, Rocky. So who's fired up for some playoff baseball?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I cannot wait. I can't wait, and playing the Tigers
to bring it, Bring it, Tigers. We were the ones
that sent you on that little spiral. You remember that.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Oh yeah, we.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Did do that.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
I said it.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
I didn't I didn't really know who I wanted us
to play. I don't care who we play. I'm just
ready to watch us play les go.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
All right, well it is here, and you needed those
last few components for it to feel as real as
it can be, and that is you gotta have an opponent,
you gotta have a time you're gonna play, and we
now know all of that. It will be the Detroit
Tigers flying into town to take on the Mariners starting tomorrow,
and we will have the late games in both days,
(02:11):
Saturday and Sunday, So five thirty starts on both days
that are coming up, Saturday and Sunday. That yes, first
pitch we five thirty eight technically tomorrow, and then on
Sunday at five three, So five thirty and five o'clock
starts the next couple of days we'll have the primetime
(02:33):
slot out here in the.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
West, and so it is on. It is really on.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
And yeah, I didn't really mind who we played one
way or the other. I think we do have the
advantage against either of the teams that would have come
out of this series, the Tigers or the Cleveland Guardians.
They both bring different challenges to the table. I think
the Guardians would have been a little easier of a matchup.
(02:58):
And yes, I know the Guardian finished strong, but now
the Tigers kind of feel renewed after their collapse in September.
You know, you get a series win, and I'm sure
that they think that they're bad baseball for the year
is behind them.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
And then of.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Course there's the big element when you face Detroit. They've
got truly one of those horses, one of those aces,
one of those horses aces in Tarrek Scooble, who I
don't know when they're gonna pitch him. We still haven't
announced that, but I'm sure we'll see him twice if
the series goes to five games. And he is a
guy that can just make life impossible for you. We've
(03:36):
beaten him head to head twice this year with Luis
Castill going against him, and nobody else has done that
this year. But nonetheless, that is an element that I
frankly don't think that we have, and it's an element
that I don't think the Guardians had either, and it
could play a big factor if he's starting forty percent
of the games for the Tigers.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, I mean, he's the guy. It doesn't matter what
you did, you know, back in April and another time
in the middle of the season, it's he's gonna come
out there kind of feeling like, yeah, you had your
two you know, you landed your two lucky punches, and
I'm gonna go back to doing what I do because
he is he is a guy that's just filthy. I mean,
it's it's that change up that he has is ridiculous
(04:16):
and then obviously has plus everything else right along with it.
But I mean it is I think that there's in
this time, you're like, you know, it's a new game,
nothing from the past really you get to carry over,
and yet it's in the back of everybody's mind as well,
and so you get it an opportunity to go up
against one of the best, and it's a measuring stick
and you're just trying to kind of water that seed
(04:39):
of doubt that that is lurking back there. It's not
a very big seed of doubt with that guy. I
think that he kind of feels that he's gonna go
out there and shove it, regardless of what he did
last game or what he did last time he faced you.
And and yet on the flip side of it, as
a hitter, you're gonna have to go out there and
just absolutely battle. It's one of those of you can
battle and find a way to scrape two run across
(05:00):
in in five innings and get into the bullpen, then
you've done your job if you can. If it's you
let them go seven and and shut you out or
only give up one, then it's going to be a
tough sledding and then you're pitching staff as the back YEP.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
A very interesting decision that even the Tigers have to make.
I mean, obviously they're going to try to pitch schoolball twice,
but do you pitch him in game number one, that
all important game number one to get the series started
the right way. If so, you're going to ask him
to do it on just three days rest. He just
pitched on Tuesday, It's one of the advantages of getting
(05:31):
a bye. It's one of the things that Major League
Baseball tried to build into their new format play their
new playoff format. They were a little tired of the
teams that had earned their best teams during the regular
season that they earned the high the lower seed or
higher seed, depending on how you look at it, and
(05:52):
they wanted to give them some distinct advantages, and this
is one of them. You can throw your ace, you
can hold them out for the start of the wild
hard round, But if he's going to then start the
divisional round, he'll be doing it on three days rest.
He's also coming off a game in which he pitched
more than he's accustomed to pitching. And you know how
these guys are with their routines.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I know, Detroit, we'll get him out there at the
latest game, number two. But if they don't go with
Trek Scuball, then they're starting the series. They either go
with their ace on three days rest, or they're starting
the series against presumably our best guy with their number
four starter, because they certainly aren't going to go to
the number two guy Maes or their number three guy
(06:35):
Flaherty because they're on even shorter rest going into this series.
So it'll be interesting to see how the Tigers play that.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yeah, and I mean the idea of yeah, that's how
it starts with him, and then you kind of have
to do the same thing if you were like, Wow,
we really don't want to go out there and put
ourselves at a distinct disadvantage even I mean disadvantage of
a game that starts zero zero, but a disadvantage on
paper of starting our fourth best guy against somebody's that's
(07:02):
gonna be able to line up their one, two, three
sayings wo. Probably, but you're if you don't, if you
decide no, we're gonna go out there. We're just ask
you guys to come back on short rest. It's all
of them. You would be asking to do that. Probably,
Otherwise you would unless you win the first one. You
throw him out there because he's your horse. You win
the first one, and then you say, okay, we'll just
(07:23):
go ahead and throw in game two. We'll throw that
fourth starter in there and and then get everybody back
on track. But I'm fine with whatever they end up doing.
I mean, it is he he pitched well in his
one start and got the w for for Detroit in
that one start, and then they rode that essentially and
to win that three game series. To me, it's if
(07:43):
you're if you're a pitcher, you're you're if you're Logan
Gilbert or Kirby or Castilla, whoever it is. It's thinking
right now that they might get the number one, you're like,
all right, let's do this. You know, I guarantee our
pitching staff likes the idea of getting into a pitcher's duel.
And then I if you go our best against their best,
I think that it's still as much as he might
(08:05):
be a half a tier ahead of any of the
guys we got. I still think our offense is significantly
better than their.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, I think on paper we are absolutely the better
baseball team. I mean, short series, anything can happen. Hell,
if they would have just said, hey, just randomly, we're
gonna draw a team out of the hat that didn't
qualify for the playoffs and you get into the postseason, Congratulations,
Colorado Rockies, You're in. It's our lotto team. It's Rob
Manford's new idea. So that nobody feels that they are
(08:32):
completely eliminated before the playoffs. You can lose to the
Rockies in a five game series, certainly could lose to
them in a three game series, and I have a feeling,
I mean, if we're not advancing past this round, in
my opinion, it's you know, that's one of those baseball things,
because I do believe that we're better than them in
(08:53):
every category. Our bullpens pitching better than THEIRS. I think
our defense is better than THEIRS. I think our lineup
is better and deeper than THEIRS. I think our starting
rotation is deeper than THEIRS. But the two things that
they have going for them is they've got this, you know,
Cy Young probably gonna go back to back Cy Young
(09:13):
Award winner, who's probably who's going to get two starts
in this series. And they've got a few guys that
have some confidence against the Mariners. Kerry Carpenter has owned
us as a hitter. And then just the crazy unknown
of baseball. I mean, the ball bounces certain ways and
you never know where it's going to bounce. So but
on paper, yeah, I think that we're the better team
(09:36):
and should handle the Detroit Tigers here over the next
few days.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Yeah, I mean, the the idea I mean you can.
I'm glad the game isn't played on paper. It would
be really boring if it was like, all right, you
put yours out there and we'll measure our stats. Well,
we win that guy, we win this guy, because that's
just not the way it works. I Mean, these are
Detroit for a large part of the season was playing
the best baseball of anybody in the American League. So
to think that this that what we witnessed over the
(10:03):
collapse over the last month of the season, that that's
who they are, that's just not true. Now, to think
that they're not capable of that would be false. And
yet to think that they're not capable of going out
there and beating anybody on any given night, you better
recognize that's the truth as well. I just think it
comes down to, I mean, both the teams are going
(10:23):
to come in confident there. You're right, the three game
win in a in a playoff series against the team
that overtook them and sniper the division from them. They're
riding high flying in here today. And so that's fine,
feel good about yourselves. I don't want you coming in
here limping or you know, sucking your thumb. So to speak.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
I want you coming in your feeling like you coming
in here sucking you do Yeah, I don't think that.
I think their reactions will be slower.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
If you feel your thumb in your mouth while you're
trying to hit, imagine that.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Yeah, that would be You're right, I guess you know
what going approach.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
In his mouth while he's trying to pitch. That's also good.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
In between pitches, he's just out there sucking his thumb.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Relations Yeah, that's true. Yeah, that's true. To screw up
that clock.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I mean, I just want to Yeah, I wouldn't be good.
I wouldn't be good at all. But I mean I
want them coming in here feeling good about themselves, and
I then I want us to kind of reverse that
feeling for him. And I'm sure that that's what their
thought is too. Oh, these guys, look where they're at
and look what they ended up doing down the stretch.
(11:27):
They're trying to reverse that fate and and it's our
job to not let them do it.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
I just think you if you go with that, if scoobles,
you're their guy tomorrow and you go with your same
game plan that you went with last the last two times.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I mean, that's that's the goal, right. I understand it
is very hard to.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Assume that that you could beat him three times or
four times, but.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
I just they can't be afraid of him.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
They can't know, and I don't think they have been
in the other two times they've I mean in the
first series they were they'd lost the first two games
and then it was like they were trying to avoid
a sweep with going against Schooble and that didn't That
wasn't faring well heading into it, thinking oh gosh, we're
facing the best picture and they they won three two
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Where is old Seattle U buddies that can take him
out and get him drunk?
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Yeah, go celebrate that.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Yeah. Well, I actually know the guy that I don't
know if he was playing there with him.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Had to ask her yeah, or.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
If he was coaching at that he's probably just coaching.
He's closer to my age, not as old as I am,
but I think maybe eight Cribby if you're listening, Yeah,
let's get this guy out.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah, go show him around the town again. Remind him
of all the good times. Yeah, remember when you used
to shotgun beersk shows, how you can do it.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
You can't do that anymore.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Hey, look at this hose. You want a beer bunk.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Yeah, that's a great idea.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
You got a great hose, scoobl check out this hose. Yeah?
Does that not bring back memories? Show us how you
used to do it.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Yeah, I'm down with that.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Bring him out to the riverside. We'll have a campfire,
and then it'll get him lost in the woods. Seattle.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
You you retire his number when he's in town, that
be cause for celebration. Yes, and it'll roll over into
the wee hours of the morning and he'll forget all
about having to pitch a game against the Mariners in
the playoffs idea.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
So anyway, I'm tired of coming up with all these
ideas for you, Seattle. You you're crushing it there, trying
to figure out a way that you can contribute more
to the community other than educating people still a higher level.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
You know bad acts old you need it.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
You need to ask yourself every day, what are we
doing for Mariners?
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Right?
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Right right?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
What are we doing to help Seattle? What a weekend
it's going to be, My goodness, what a weekend of
sports and I'm sure I'm a prisoner of the moment.
I'm sure in my ten years here there's been a
crazy weekend like this, but certainly not involving the Mariners.
But to have Saturday and think and kind of thank goodness,
(13:55):
it's a road game, but you're gonna have the Huskies
at twelve thirty, and then you know, pregame starts at
eight thirty for goodness sake, so I mean Softy's day, geez,
so he'll he'll be getting up at the crack of dawn,
you know, pregaming for four hours out at Tom's watch bar.
And then after that it's you know, as soon as
(14:16):
those college football games last seven hours usually, so it'll
it'll bleed in, I'm sure to the Mariners. Mariners at
five thirty, and then you got Sounders starting.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
As Portland at seven thirty.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
So that's all on, yeah, against their rival, you know,
a few remaining games in the regular I think it's
our last game? Is it their last game of the
regular scene?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
I hate I couldn't answer that question, hate.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Painting myself on that corner because I don't know anything
about soccer. But nonetheless, you got that on Saturday, and
then Sunday. You know, you're waking up to NFL football.
You got the Seahawks playing at one and then the
Mariners at five. I mean, maybe there's been a busy
and most of the activity is going to be within
the same block. Yeah, so maybe there's been a weekend
(15:03):
like this. I'm sure there is, but certainly not involving
the Mariners. Not since I've been here.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
No, well, no I don't. I can't remember one in
the you know, twenty five years that I've been living here,
I can't remember one. I know there hasn't been one
that's been involved in the Marrigors. We can obviously think
back just to the couple of times that we've had
the playoffs in my in basically in my lifetime, so
I know that there hasn't been anything involved in them.
But I think this city is is turned on right
(15:30):
now for for Mariners baseball and obviously the way in
which we're going to get to watch this bad boy
where it's we got it set up. I mean, there
really is no excuses. Go out there, do what you're
capable of doing and see where see where this thing
ends up.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
All right, well, we get it underway here on a
Tito's handmade vodka Football Baseball Friday right here on Chuck
and Buck. So let's find out what we've got on
tap for the rest of the show.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
What's on Tip? What's on? All? Right?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
So Tigers win six to three over the Guardians yesterday.
They take the series two games to one. We'll talk
more about the Tigers coming up. We'll have a Tiger's
preview for you on the show today. Kyle Peterson, Bucky's
friend from back in the day. He's the face of
the College World Series. But ESPN brings him out of
the closet to call radio games for Major League Baseball
(16:23):
as well, and he just so happened to be calling
the Tigers Guardian Series for them. And so we're gonna
have a Kyle on today, see what he saw, provide
us a scouting report on the Detroit Tigers. We'll do
that at eight thirty. Also Ryan Healy, who was on
with us a couple of weeks ago, former Mariner, he's
kind of creeping his way into the broadcast world, and
(16:46):
so we're gonna test him out a time or two
throughout the playoffs, and so he'll get it started with
us today at nine to thirty, so Ryan Healey to
join us to preview the Tigers Mariner series as well.
The Yankees won over the Boston Red Sox last night,
ford to nothing, so the Yankees advance. They'll take on
the Blue Chase at one o'clock tomorrow, and Cam Schlittler
(17:08):
became an instant Yankee legend in a divisional or see
me a wild card game three, you know, winner takes
Winter advances kind of series against their great rival. Here's
a rookie with just a handful of starts and a
really weird name against the ball and goes eight shutout
(17:29):
innings at Yankee Stadium for Aaron Boone with twelve strikeouts.
He was just about perfect on the mound last night.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yeah, I mean it's that was a game that I
think a lot of people were looking forward to. I
was somehow hoping that both of them could lose, and
yet if I had to pick, it would have been
the Red Sox advancing, just because I hate them less
than I hate the Yankees. But Schlittler went out there,
and I mean that he's obviously didn't have a lot
of experiencing right just basically getting called up this year.
(18:01):
But he's got plus stuff. We saw the plus stuff
when he came and pitched against us, and yet to
do it in the playoffs, in a in a you know,
decisive game against your biggest rival, to go out there
and do it in front of your home fans, and
it wasn't just like, oh, you did six innings and
scattered six hits, and you know it was shoving it
on him. I mean, one after another, sawing off bats
(18:22):
left and right. I'm sure that he slept with a
big smile on his face last night.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
I was just glad that they I don't have to
cheer for the Yankees or have any reason not cheer.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
I don't have to want them to win anymore.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
I wanted them to win so that we could win
clinch a playoff spot when we were at the game
on that Tuesday, and I wanted them to win last
night to give us the late game, right, and I'm done.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
That's it. That's all I can give you if you
lose every game.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
The New York.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Uh and Yankee fans, with their reputation of like, uh,
you know, making their players even bigger, I mean it's
they've got the greatest history in baseball, maybe in all
of American sports. And yet they will take a guy
that went, you know, five for seven in a doubleheader
and try to retire his number.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
That's what they're known for.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
So Cam Schlitzler probably by the time that they get
back from Toronto for Game three in the Divisional Round,
will probably have a statue up outside Yankee Stadium. We
shall see Cubs three one winners over the Padres yesterday.
So the Cubs will now face Milwaukee. That's a great
rivalry there. And so they'll start the four games tomorrow
(19:29):
at eleven am and then the Dodgers and Phillies will
play at three thirty. So that's the schedule. The Divisional
Round starts for all four series on Saturday, the American
League only on Sunday. Seahawks will host the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers on Sunday. And it is a football Friday sponsored
(19:49):
by Tito's Handmade Vodka after all, and we're not certainly
going to ignore it. Greg Bell will be with us
at seven oh five for the latest injury information, also
his key to victory Hugh millon X's and O's today
at nine o'clock here on this Friday, and we will
also have our no cliche keys to victory ourselves coming
up this hour at six forty five NFL Week number five.
(20:13):
The early game Denver at Philadelphia is the best game
early and then you've got probably US with Tampa is
probably the best game in the afternoon session. But the
Commander's taking on the Chargers in Los Angeles. That should
be a really good game. That's in the afternoon session.
And then the Sunday night affair will be New England
at Buffalo Thursday Night Football. Last night, man Kyle Shannon,
(20:33):
the forty nine Ers somehow pulled it off. They entered
that game with no one really giving them a shot
to win, and damn if they didn't win it twenty
six to twenty three in overtime. And yeah, there were
some really crushing turnovers by the Rams, but credit to
Shanahan and Mac Jones. Mac Jones and Kendrick Bourne. Where
did that stuff come from?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Mac Jones looks like it looked like he was dying
by the end of that game.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
He really did.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yeah, between his pants were down.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Yeah, and then at one point I think that his
brace was pinching his leg. I'm assuming that's what was
happen because it looked like his leg was about ready
to fall. Yeah, and I guess the brace may have
pinched the leg or something like that. I don't know,
but he, I mean, he played great though. He won
them the game, and the forty nine Ers are going
to finish this week as the first place team in
the NFC West. Huskies at Maryland twelve thirty on Saturday.
(21:25):
The Honks will be doing their pregame show and then
I guess they're going to watch the game out there.
Tom's watch bar all the sports all the time. I'm
going to go through the schedule for you here in
a little bit. Miami at Florida State's the big game
in college football this weekend. It starts at four thirty.
I mentioned Sounders Timbers. They do have three games left
in the regular season schedule, but this is the Biggie
(21:46):
taking on our rivals, the Portland Timbers seven thirty on
Saturday night. Cracking started six days and the WNBA Finals
get started tonight. Game number one. It'll be the Aces
taking on the Mercury. That will tip at five o'clock.
All right, coming up next, ABC's of the MS Divisional
Round Style coming your way. On Chuggingbox Sports Radio ninety
(22:08):
three point three KJRFM. Things started in our series Game
number one. We still don't know the pitching matchups, but
we got a little more time to toss that topic
around here on this normally football Friday, and it is
a football Friday. He will be with us, Greg will
be with us, Rick new Aisa will hear from him
and others. But certainly we're gonna be talking some Major
(22:29):
League baseball. And here's a special divisional round version of
the ABC's of the MS our Daily Mariner feature. Who
knows where the alphabet will take us, but he is
where we left off in the alphabet. He is for everyone,
as in everyone is invited to check out our coverage
of the postseason right here at Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJRFM. It should start tonight. I think it
(22:51):
kind of first pitches tonight for us at four o'clock.
We're doing a special four to six round table today
as we'll be occupying Jimmy's on first of course over
at the Silver Cloud, and then we will of course
be occupying snow Qualme Casino as well. That's part of
our coverage this year. So from four to six. You
(23:11):
can hear a six person roundtable two hour special roundtable
today right here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KHARFM.
And then Bucky and I will be doing the postgame
shows after every single Mariner playoff game, So that means
we will be on the air at about eight thirty
tomorrow bringing back the old postgame.
Speaker 4 (23:29):

(24:02):
for Ferguson, as in Caleb Ferguson, who I think is
going to play a pretty significant role throughout these playoffs.
I mean, we've got a lot of good Bucky relievers
on our team. Who splits are good against left handers.
Andre's munos is excellent against the lefties. I think Matt
Brash is a little better against righty's, but I did
(24:23):
watch him screw Jose Ramirez into the ground about seven
times in his career. But I mean, we've got good
righty split matchups, but we really haven't had that luxury
of guys who specialty is to get left handers out.
We haven't had a lot of them over the last
few years who are effective in that role. We all,
(24:43):
i think, feel pretty comfortable about Gabe Speier. I don't
think people feel all that comfortable about Caleb Ferguson, but
I'm here to argue that you should. He is a
guy that produces soft contact. He's not like a dominant reliever,
he actually is. I think he's go up like two
extra base sits since he's joined the Mariners. He's given
(25:04):
up more hits than he was giving up with the
Pittsburgh Pirates because he's just the ball was landing, it
was finding grass, it was finding the hole. But he
is sort of the master of soft contact, and so
he's still been effective against lefties. He never gives up
big damage, but he has given up a few strings
(25:24):
of walks and bass hits and needs to be clean
cleaned up. There's no question about it. But I think
he ends up playing a really massive role in this series.
The Detroit Tigers have Riley Green and Kerry Carpenter. Carpenter's
killed us, Riley Green's killed almost everybody until recently. But
the Guardians went as far as forcing Green out of
(25:45):
some games in the series. I mean, he got pinch
hit for when a lefty specialist came in to the
game in Game number two, they took him out of
the game. Their best hitter, their all star hitter, Riley
Green thirty six homers during the regular season, one hundred
and eleven runs knocked, and yet he's been struggling so
much against lefties that they took him out of the
lineup and game number two when a lefty came in
(26:08):
to face him. If you could do that with dual lefties,
now you can get Caleb Ferguson maybe in a tight
spot in the fifth inning, and you can get Riley
Green out of the game. That could be a real big.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Factor in this series. Yeah, yeah, if they even if they,
I mean, I think that was a mistake by hints
to take him out of the game. I get that
his blitz against lefties are substantially worse, but boyl boy,
I mean, you're you're in a game where wouldn't you
want to give him a shot at it? And then
if you happen to come back and tie that game
up and that his spot in the lineup comes around again,
(26:40):
you're going to be kicking yourself that he wasn't in there.
So who knows if he'll make that same decision again
because it didn't necessarily work out depending on how much
it is an analytics thing. If it's fully analytics, then
you're like, yep, we're going to do it every single time.
That's what the numbers tell us. If he goes with
his gut and he's like, well, that didn't work out.
I did take out an All star are just because
(27:01):
of the hand that the guy was pitching with.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
But either way, whether they take him out or here,
you're bringing in somebody that he has more trouble against
than he does against righties. I'm one hundred percent on
board with you. I think the cave Ferguson and Gage
Spy are both going to be integral because that we
don't have many lefties, right, That's it, And so you're
going to have to do something to go against him
and Kerry Carpenter for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
We usually just like keep like one lefty and then
you play that you can only play at one time. Well,
now we're going to have an opportunity to play that
card a couple of times when the right guys are
coming up to the plate and the splits on both
he and Carpenter are significant. I mean, Carpenter has two
seventeen batting average, two thirty eight on base against left handers.
Green has a two eighteen batting average. This is for
(27:47):
the season, a two ninety on base So they are
they are, you know, susceptible to failing against lefties. And
now we have more than one guy we can call
out of the bullpen. So I think Ferguson's going to
play a role.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, I hope.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
So finally g G is for Gilbert or George. According
to Ryan Divish from the newspaper in town. You know
there's a newspaper in town that covers the day, covers
sports and news and stuff.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Familiar.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yeah, that maybe the decision is not Gilbert or Castillo,
but Gilbert or George to start Game one of the
Divisional round of the playoffs, and he was leaning toward
them being the top two starters that are going to go.
And with Brian Wu yesterday, man, he looked like a
(28:37):
sad puppy yesterday. It does. I don't even know if
he's even going to make the roster the way that
they're kind of acting. He's acting about how his bullpen
sessions went and how his pecks feeling. So this might
end up being Wu not on the roster, and this
might end up being a Gilbert or George one two
punch here at home against the Tigers.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
Yeah curious. I mean, the more we get, the closer
we get to it. I feel like it's logan that
they're gonna go out there game one, and who knows,
if if George ends up being two, that'll that would
surprise me a little bit. But regard, I'll still be
pumped about the whole thing, the whole Wu situation though. Yeah,
you're right. I mean he threw yesterday or the day
(29:19):
before yesterday, the day before they threw, regardless, and he
just was like, yeah, you know, everything's going the way
that we're wanting it. To go. I guess we'll find
out in a week or so, Like you know, well
that then you're basically saying maybe he could be ready
for Game five. Well, we'll know what their actual thoughts
are on him and when he could come back based
(29:42):
on whether he is on the roster or not, because
that you wouldn't be bringing him back for anything except
for the last game of the series based on what
he was saying yesterday. Now, I mean, I think that
this is one of those you you want Brian Wu
in the series obviously, but you want Brian Wu for
his career and you want that to be as long
as p possible. One thing this organization does just takes
(30:02):
care of their pitcher's arms, and so they have a
plan of how they're going about this and how they're
wanting to work him back into where they think he's
capable of going out and taking the ball in a game. Yeah,
I would, if I had to bet, I would think
you're probably not going to see him this series. That sucks.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Also, though, wouldn't it be great if like they were like, Okay,
we need you to go out there and act like
you're really sad that you're not going to play we're
going to surprise the crap out of everybody.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Yeah, that would be fun. I'm just saying it's not
gonna happen, but it'd be really really fun.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Game two started be like it's worked.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
It worked for the Ravens because they told everyone Lamar
Jackson was going to be out for three to four
weeks and now he might play Sunday.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
So we're going to do this for you and we're
going to see how they react. Pack's fine, never all
the big rus Uh.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
So, yes, we'll see later today. I think we're gonna
get final. I think I'm sure we're going to find
out today the starting pitching is going to be for
Game number one, and Game number two will also probably
find out the final roster decision. Another thing from Ryan
was that maybe it's not going to be Harry Ford
after all that maybe like a Samad Taylor, who had
(31:11):
four at bats all season long for the Mariners, ends
up with one of the roster spots before all is
said and done.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Those decisions should be announced a little bit later on today.
Coming up next, We've got no cliche keys to victory
here on a Friday. Seahawks getting ready for the Buccaneers
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM as they get
ready to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday
at one oh five. It will be one oh five.
It's stuck there at one oh five. Headlines also coming
your way at the top of the hour, and don't
(31:40):
forget we play Factor fiction at seven thirty five. But
what we do on Fridays at six forty five is
we have your no cliche keys to victory. Can't you
use anything that's a cliche? Please, Let's stay away from that.
That's not analysis. Let's dig a little deeper, at least
one layer deeper into trying to figure out why the
Yawks will beat the Buccaneers Sunday. What do you got, bucket,
(32:02):
what's your no cliche key to vic.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Well, I'm gonna go exactly one layer deeper than no
cliches because it kind of is tied to not turn
the ball over. I feel like you are set up
right now with Bucky Irving probably not playing for them now,
and you have a good run defense to begin with.
They're also missing one of their big targets in Evans
(32:24):
due to health, and so you kind of I feel
like the defense against their offense is set up well
their defense against our offense. We still haven't gotten the ball.
We haven't been running the ball the way that they
would like. It feels lopsided at times, the way that
it goes down. To me, I feel like what you
need to avoid is sacks and a bunch of pressure
on Sam Darnold because that's when possibly you could turn
(32:48):
into him throwing balls up that that wind up in
the other team's hands. So to me, it's moving the
pocket getting him out, not don't let videvea blow up
your your you know, maybe not as strong center in
Sundell and Bradford. That pressure up the middle. We know
we watched Aaron Donald do it for years against us
and against everybody else in the NFL. Of how devastating
(33:09):
and destructive that can be. Con wreck people's crap for
grying out loud. Where if you get pressure right up
the middle, So to me, it's it's moved the pocket
so that Sam Donald is not under a ton of pressure,
because that's what I think would be the key to
losing this game. If if that's the case, Well, the.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Buccaneers defense, I mean, I know that the big names,
Mayfield and Evans and Godwin and even Abuca Now and
Bucky Irving. I mean, you know the names on offense.
You probably know more names on offense. But their defense
is really the strength of their team. Their ninth versus
the past this year, they're fifth versus the run, their
fourth overall and total yardage allowed. So defense is really
(33:48):
the strength, and they've got a defensive minded head coach,
so they're gonna They're gonna bring a game plan, there's
no question about that, and the Seahawks better be sharp
in all phases. What do you got for your no cliche?
Ke Deevic there?
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Actually, I think when we played the Saints, we had
some fun moments on special teams, and the Bucks have
really been struggling a bit on special teams this year.
They had quite a few mistakes that almost cost them games.
And then I think last week the block punt that
was returned for a touchdown against Eagles was a huge
factor in that game, and obviously they.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
They went down really early.
Speaker 5 (34:22):
But if you can take advantage of those mistakes and
force them to make more, I think that our special
teams is talented enough to be able to take advantage
of that, and there you go.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
An achilles heel. You're saying, oh yeah, a little deeper
into the third phase of the game and maybe you
find the Tampa Bay Buccaneers achilles heel.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Yeah, go crush it. Yeah, it's just put stump on it.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Apparently you can just shoot an arrow. You can from
the pressure through it, right through it, and then I'll
just take them out. Yeah, all right, I'm going to
go with and this is going to sound extraordinarily cliche,
and so I will explain it a little bit. You
got to execute your game plan. I mean, that's that's
as it gets. But I don't think this is one
of those games where this is a I think this
(35:05):
is the best opponent that you faced this year. And
so if you think you're gonna be able to go
out there and get shut down with the run and
then Sam Darnold's gonna take over, I don't think that's
gonna happen. They can get pressure on the quarterback. They
have ten sacks this year on top of all the
other defensive statistics that I've outlined. If you think that
you're gonna go out there and just run over the
(35:25):
top of them, you're not gonna be able to do that.
You better have some balance on offense. You better be
able to set up the run, set up the pass,
you know, by creating that balance, because they can pretty
much beat you in any way on the defensive side
of the ball. I don't think that they're a team
against our defense that's gonna light up the scoreboard. But
(35:47):
I do think you're gonna need more than twenty points
in order to win this game. And the only way
that you're going to achieve that is creating that balance
with the run and the pass. And it probably does
start with blocking Vida Veya. Don't let I mean he
could beat you in the pass game. He could beat
you in the run game. If he blows up the
offensive line, especially the interior of the offensive line, it
(36:08):
could be a tough, tough day of putting points on
the board. And so they're going to need to be efficient.
I think they can't turn the ball over to Bucky's point,
and they're going to need to be able to be
a balanced offense because I don't think if the if
both aren't working, I don't think the one can overcompensate
(36:29):
the opponent that you're facing this weekend. So I have
faith in Sam Darnold, but I don't know if I
have faith in our running attack going against the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. So really it's going to come down to
to steal a Greg Bell key running that football, because
that's the area where I'm most concerned about, and if
you can't pull it off on Sunday, I think you're
(36:49):
going to lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All Right,
Greg Bell will give us his key at seven oh
five plus Your Headline Sports Radio ninety three point three
