r FM. It is a Football Friday sponsored by Tito's

percent alcohol by volume. Saver responsibly. Yes, the Friday Oak
Show is something that we deliver every single week and
it gets you ready for the weekend. And oh my gosh,
what a weekend. It's gonna be nuts. I don't even
know if this can beards. Is there enough time?
Speaker 4 (00:57):
I don't I think what there is if you just prioritize,
I think they get extra hours.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Don't make it, no, no extra hours.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
You got to try to fit all in, like, oh,
I'm not going to partake in the Sounders festivities.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
Is that gonna be hard for you to miss cut
that out.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, really hard. Same with the Huskies. Okay, it's really
not that difficult.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
I want Mariners thing that's first and foremost, and then
make sure I pay attention to the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
I was wonder the impression we got extra hours.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
To I think there's fifty five hours of viewing and
forty eight hours to do it in. Well, that's gonna
be that's gonna be really hard, doesn't The math didn't
even add up.
Speaker 6 (01:33):
I do love a challenge, though, Yeah, we'll try to.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Make it work.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
The Mariners now know their foe for the divisional round
of the American League playoffs. Yes, the Detroit Tigers will
be coming into town Saturday and Sunday for games one
and two of this five game set. The Tigers, who
limped down the stretch during the regular season, still managed
(01:58):
to squeak their way in to the playoffs and had
to face the team in Cleveland that had tracked them
down to win their division, ended up claiming revenge yesterday
by taking Game three.
Speaker 7 (02:13):
HiT's all right, that's gonna drop for it.
Speaker 8 (02:15):
Hit bias the scored Meadows comes to the play. It's
a two run single for a Winsill Parents.
Speaker 7 (02:26):
They had a third to one Tiger.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Lead Athew Mellen's buddy Sean McDonough on the call there
with ESPN. The Tigers took a two to one lead
in the sixth of their third and decisive Wild Card
round game on Thursday, and then in the seventh they
blew it open with a four run frame, just kept
collecting hit after hit after hit after three different Guardians pitchers,
(02:48):
and they end up winning it by a final score
of six to three, and now they're on their way
to the Pacific Northwest. You all right with facing the
damn Detroit Tigers.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
I'm may okay with it. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
I mean last year they kind of were the determining
the deciding time when they kind of turned us into
a bad situation. It felt like that series against them
cost us and they ended up prospering and going on
to the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
They got our playoffs pot.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Yeah, they're saying, yeah, and so it's a turnabouts, fair play.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Yeah, time to return the favor.
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
And they took it. Yeah, they took it. They took
it right from us. But they've been reeling as of late.
I think this renews them. I mean, you're right what
you said in the last hour that I don't think
they're playing great baseball right now, the Detroit Tigers, and
yet I don't think they're doubting themselves like they might
(03:41):
have been towards the end of the regular season. Getting
into the playoffs and then winning this series, I'm sure
has rejuvenated the troops.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Oh they're rejuvenated, for sure, and yet there still is
there's got to be something in the back of their head.
I mean they you know, they basically squeaked through the
first two games with a one to one record, scoring
three runs, and yet they came out in the deciding
game and figured out a way to get it done.
That's why, I mean, game one is always crazy important
in a short series, and five games is still considered
(04:09):
somewhat short. It's a big deal because you lose that
first one, then you got to figure out a way
to win three out of four, which is no easy
task against anyone. So to me go out there and
just let them know right off the bat, I think
the fans are going to show up. I think that
they're going to be obviously rested. It's just a matter
of whether or not they do what they're capable of doing.
(04:29):
I'm not saying play to their ceiling. I don't think
you have played your ceiling to win this series.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I think that.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
They're while they maybe are rejuvenated to some extent because
they got that monkey off their back with the beating
the team that took the division from them and came
from fifteen and a half games back. They're still You
put it on them game one, and that's going to
creep back in their mind a little bit and they'll
just keep doing it well.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Here they come with their two times soon to be
two time Cy Young Award winning pitcher. Here they come
with that former astro manager A J.
Speaker 7 (05:01):
Hinch.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Here they come with the Mariner killer carry Carpenter. Here
they come to the Pacific Northwest to take on cal.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Rilly or Cole Young. Here have we considered Bucky Jacobson.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I was listening to this radio show this morning and
he really sounded like he was ready to play.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
He had goosebumps walk.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
Up song, It's gonna count for something. You want that energy.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Bru Tigers would be all confused hearing the song that's
from eight mile in there, and then I'd beg noted
my song.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Sorry about it Detroit, and.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
He'd walk up and show them why it's your song.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Game one Tomorrow night at five thirty eight, neither team
has announced their Game one starter. At least last I
checked about a busy morning this morning, neither team has
announced their Game one starter. Pivotal on both sides. We've
been wondering all week long. Who's going to be our
Game one Game two starter? Well, the Detroit Tigers have
more to consider than we do, because they obviously would
(05:59):
go with Trek's if all things were equal, but they're not.
He just pitched three days ago, so he's on just
three days rest heading into Saturday, and that might alter
their decision.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
Then again, maybe it won't.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
It's that time of the year where guys tend to
go on three days rest. Hell CC Sabbathi, I think
did it like for a month and after the day
with the Milwaukee Brewers once upon a time. We also
have rotation and roster decisions that should come today from
the Mariners. Brian Woo's injury update. We'll understand that later
today because he might not even make this roster. I mean,
(06:35):
we saw the clip from him yesterday. He did have
a bullpen. You know what, it sounds like it sounds
like his rehab is going well, but it doesn't sound
like it's it's going to be sped up in order
for him to make the playoff roster. I mean, to me,
he looked despondent yesterday answering questions from reporters.
Speaker 7 (06:58):
I get the feeling we're not going to see him
at all.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
I would think because they're they're planning on keeping one
extra position guy right, which would then mean one fewer
guy out of the bullpen. But the thing that when
you have at this point you kind of feel like
you have Bryce Miller was going to be shifted into
the bullpen. You don't necessarily have to do that if
you need four starters, and then you have Emerson Hancock
(07:21):
as well, so you have two guys there. I think
you could end up putting him on the roster, and
it's a it's a used break glass in case of
emergency where if you get to Game five, maybe he
is good enough to start, but you still don't feel
like it's ready to ride it very far. I think
that they're not going to speed up the timeline. They're
they're thinking big picture and long term with this guy
(07:43):
and understandably. So he's young. I'm not going to blow
him out if he's not one hundred percent ready to
rock and roll. But I bet he makes the roster
and it's just one of those we got this lurk,
and who knows, if all of a sudden we need
a game five starter, he might be ready to rock
and roll.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
There ma some interesting decisions.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
Will there will be.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
I still do not hope that it's just a ruse
and he's gonna faking ice pack Paul Pierce, Yeah, yeah,
there you ready to go.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Bring him in in a wheelchair, and then all of
a sudden he's like, I think I can go skip yep, yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Mark it down.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
It's interested Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R

Speaker 2 (09:20):
End, and I do mean the end, lose all.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
The way, all the way till November first.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
The Elite eight is now set. The New York Yankees
are joining us in the Divisional round after they defeated
the Boston Red Sox yesterday four to nothing behind rookie
Cam Schlittler, who struck out twelve batters over eight scoreless
innings of work and a third and decisive wild card
match against his favorite childhood team which now is his
(09:49):
greatest professional rival, the Boston Red Sox.
Speaker 7 (09:52):
Here's Aaron Boone about his rookie starter.
Speaker 9 (09:56):
The Stars born tonight. He's special kid man. I'm telling you,
it's obviously amazing stuff. But he's shown us this from
the jump, like he is not afraid, he expects this,
and uh, I'm not gonna say what he told me
last night, but I'm not surprised.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
At all by what he did. Yeah, he didn't look
afraid to me.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
No, No, it was not too intimidated by the moment.
And it was interesting because both teams were throwing in
a deciding game three to advance. It's win or go home,
and they're both throwing youngsters with very little experience. He
answered the bell, though, got to pitch. I mean, that's
got to be a good feeling to go in there,
wearing the pin stripes, pitching in front all those New
York fans, going against your the hated rivals of the
(10:39):
Boston Red Sox, and delivering the way he did. I'm
sure he's pretty happy with himself today.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yankees at Toronto tomorrow at one o'clock. That will be
the second game of the day. The Cubs got past
the punchless Padres once again, just complete failure in the playoffs.
Jeezy didn't even where was the offense. They'll face mill
Way tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock. That'll be game one
of a quadruple header on Saturday, and then the Dodgers
(11:06):
Phillies get the prime time affair, so that will be
in Philadelphia and that will be three thirty eight start
time our time, obviously that's prime time though there in
the East. And then we'll wrap it up Tigers Mariners.
We'll be at five thirty eight tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
So here we go.
Speaker 7 (11:25):
We are ready, We are here, we have a run.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
We are ready for playoff Baseball.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Been waiting for this for quite some time. I mean really,
and it was just a couple of years ago we
did get to play in the playoffs, and it was
just like, what's happening. It's been so long. Now this
is getting back into this and it's all the same
guys from just a couple of years ago for the
most part. And yeah, it's now it's time to get
the job done, get to where we want.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
To get to.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
I told you already, this week has felt like it's
been a month longer, and it really has. And I'm
sure from now till tomorrow at five thirty eight is
going to feel like another week.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
I can't wait, all right, So there you go.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
There's the baseball portion, lengthy but significant portion of the
ochow today. But we've got some other items to get
to item number four. The Seahawks and the Buccaneers will
be playing Saturday. Everyone across the country's kind of calling
this the Uniform Bowl. Maybe the two best uniforms ever
put on the on shoulder pads going head to head
(12:24):
in Sunday's game. But it's a lot more than that,
because both of these teams are three and one and
trying to prove to everybody that they are someone to
be reckoned with, a real contender this year for.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
The whole Enchilada.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Greg Bell was with us earlier today and he gave
us his keys to victory for the Seahawks.
Speaker 10 (12:43):
Containing Viavera on the offensive line, not having him completely
wrecked the day.
Speaker 11 (12:48):
There aren't many times a nose tackle can be capable
of that, but against this team, this offensive lineus he is.
Speaker 10 (12:54):
And Baker Mayfield, because it looks like they're not going
to have Bucky Irving in the run game. Aane Baker Mayfield.
Don't let him do what he's done to resurrect his
career exten plays, run for twelve yards, throw passes.
Speaker 11 (13:07):
Across the field, across his body. It is going to
be the Baker Mayfield experience on Sunday. McDonald has in
a short time here has a good track record of
taking away team's best assets. The best asset for Tampa
Bay on offense is.
Speaker 7 (13:21):
Baker Mayfield, Greg Bell, arciahawks Insight. If you want to
hear the entire conversation, you can do so at ninety
three three Kjer dot com.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
It's right, Bucky Irving is highly doubtful. I don't think
they've ruled him out just yet. On the Tampa side,
Mike Evans is out for us, probably the healthiest we've
been since the start of the season, maybe even healthier.
Nick even Warri is returning to the field, and Greg
told us in that conversation that Baker Mayfield, looking across
the line of scrimmage, we'll probably see Nick em and
(13:49):
Warri lined up as five different players, five different roles
on Sunday. So finally Mike McDonald gets to expose his
toy and hopefully for four quarters this time, not four plays.
Both teams are three and one entering Sunday kickoff remains
at one oh five. They were toying with the idea
of having to move it, but it all worked out
(14:09):
in the end, So the Mariners are going to play
the late game and the playoffs, and the Seahawks will
kick off as scheduled at one five Thursday night. Football man,
I think a lot of people are expecting the Rams
to just mop the floor with the San Francisco forty
nine ers last night.
Speaker 7 (14:25):
Instead, the forty nine Ers pulled it off.
Speaker 12 (14:28):
Stafford is staying out there with the offense. It's fourth
and one and the offense remains on the field.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
You can't call another time out. You can't do back
to back time out. So they're going for it fourth
and one.
Speaker 7 (14:42):
This is your ballgame right here.
Speaker 12 (14:44):
Stafford turns, gives to Kyron Williams.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
Over the right side.
Speaker 12 (14:47):
He didn't get there. Kyron Williams is stopped short and
the San Francisco forty nine Ers winning it overtime.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
Twenty six twenty three.
Speaker 12 (14:58):
A defensive stand on fourth and one and the Niners are.
Speaker 7 (15:02):
Four and one. The Rams repeatedly shot themselves in the foot.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
That's west would won on the call there last night,
But you gotta get credit of the forty nine ers.
I mean people were expecting them. I mean, even the Vegas.
The line I think moved all the way to nine
by kickoff, Mac Jones droves for three hundred and forty
two yards and two scores, and the Niners stole a
victory in Los Angeles twenty six to twenty three. So,
no matter what happens on Sunday, the forty nine ers
(15:29):
are gonna finish Week five first place team in the division.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
I mean they somehow squeaked that one out. I mean
it looked like it was over multiple times. The Rams
were driving down and Williams end up fumbling on the one.
Then they stop them, get the ball back, they're driving
down again, and then ended up not.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Getting that fourth down conversion. I would have done the
same thing.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
I wouldn't have kicked for a tie there and give
me really, you're going like, hopefully we tie or maybe
they drive down and win the game. Anyways, So I
mean it was a ballsy but it did not work out.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
I'm okay with it.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
They're like cockroaches, honestly, Like they lost Kalia Davis too.
He's going to have hand surgery because he injured it
last night. They'll probably be even better next week without him.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I think it will catch up to them eventually. But
I got to give him credit. That was a gutty
effort last night, and that was a really nice win
for Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
I give them nothing.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
And the Niners Denver at Philadelphia is the best game
in the early games on Sunday. I think probably US
in Tampa is the best afternoon game, but just to
be a little different, Washington taking on the Chargers, and
then the Sunday night game will be New England at Buffalo.
Huskies will be in action tomorrow at twelve thirty. They're
going all the way to Maryland for this one. And
(16:43):
I'm telling you Cam Cleveland and Rick Neweisle both stepped
up to defend and support this Maryland team as somebody
to watch out for.
Speaker 13 (16:52):
Well, Maryland has this freshman quarterback. And I know we've
talked about freshman quarterbacks all season long, right the kid
at bright Underwood at Michigan. We've heard the names about
these kids that are getting their first chances, that that's
normal in college football. But there's a kid at Maryland
by the name of Malik Washington. Washington versus Washington. That
(17:17):
has me very intrigued. This guy just looks the part,
just absolutely exudes confidence, he exudes swagger. He's not trying
to be cocky. He's just really that good. And that's
going to be a challenge for a defense that you know,
basically couldn't get Ohio State off the field last week.
(17:40):
So this is going to be really really fun to
watch in College Park.
Speaker 7 (17:46):
So should we be braced here in Washington?
Speaker 14 (17:49):
You better be braced. You better be braced.
Speaker 11 (17:52):
I think Washington wins the game. I think they have too.
Speaker 13 (17:54):
Much talent, but I think they better be ready for
a very and especially given what Washington did on the
road last year, they've got to be much better in
all facets.
Speaker 14 (18:06):
I think it was Rutgers where.
Speaker 13 (18:08):
They missed three field goals. We saw that ill advise
fake field goal the other day. This has got to
be air tight if they expect to come out of
College Park with a win.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Boy, if they were wanting some bulletin board material from
our top analysts around here, they didn't really get it.
Maryland's just like, you know, you better keep putting some
respect on my name.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Yes, keep telling everyone how great we are.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Yeah, you better keep my name in your mouth.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
I've never heard that.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
Yeah, I haven't either. Maryland doesn't even know what to
do with themselves.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Finally, Sounders are going to be an action tomorrow against
the Timbers. That's right, taking on our rivals at seven
point thirty out at Luminfield.
Speaker 14 (18:54):
Deep down in my stomach, with every inch of the.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Straight yeah, true feel. Match starts at seven thirty from
Looming Field. So all sorts of activity. You got the
I didn't even mention the Husky's of Maryland twelve thirty.
You probably already knew that. Hanks pre game show at
eight thirty.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Man, I mean you've got Seahawks, You've got Sounders Saturday night,
Seahawks Sunday afternoon, marin Er playoff baseball. I mean Hanks
to listen to Huskys.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Just not enough time for the Storm in the w
NBA Finals too, then.
Speaker 7 (19:32):
I know they did not make it. No, and that's
to night as well.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Game one tonight at five o'clock between the Mercury and
the Aces. Maybe I don't know the way things are
going in Seattle. Maybe the storm and they're just tap
on their shoulder like we got this.
Speaker 6 (19:44):
Yeah, yeah, I think we think Cup.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Finals starting tomorrow. Cracking are in it too.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
Yeah, no, but it's coming.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
We've got another year till the hockey season's along, So.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
The regular season for the Cracking starts next week as well.
That's gonna be fun squeeze into all of this chaos.
Speaker 9 (20:02):
All right?
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Coming up next on our radio.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Program, you always hear them with us once a year
talking college baseball, but today we're going to have Kyle
Peterson Talk Mariners Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
We are on the lip of our first Divisional playoff
game since twenty twenty two. We get to host this
round the first two games, the fifth if necessary, and
(20:26):
we now know our opponent.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
It will be the Detroit Tigers.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
And so we've already been analyzing, scrutinizing this roster, this
Detroit Tiger team that was a thorn in our side
a year ago, and now they're going to try to
be at this pivotal time in the Major League baseball season.
So why not get somebody that has been studying them
up close and personal the last three games that they
(20:50):
have played, and that is our friend from the College
World Series, the face the favorite son of Nebraska Bucky's
former teammate Isle Peterson, who did the color analyst for
the Tigers Guardian series and is just fresh with all.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
Sorts of great information and knowledge. Good morning, Kyle.
Speaker 14 (21:11):
I hope you guys got the right guy.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
We'll see.
Speaker 14 (21:14):
No, it's you.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
It's you, and we know it's you, Kyle.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
We know you went all Stanford nerdy study and getting
ready for that series, didn't you.
Speaker 14 (21:23):
Uh yeah, I'll tell you this. I don't do very
much major league stuff, and I get like, I don't
get nervous about anything in life anymore, but I do
before that. Yeah, well, did you want to make sure
you're right? I mean you're doing big lay games and
so yes, yes, I did totally nerd out before I
(21:43):
did it.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
Well, it sounded like you were very well prepared. It
sounded like you've been calling those two teams in particular
for the entire season. I mean when you when you uh,
you dive into this thing. Obviously there's the things that
just jump out the tek Scooble for example, I loved
your texts he sent to me.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
You were like, he's gross.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
So that that's where you broke down as you got
to that you're just like, this guy's gross.
Speaker 14 (22:09):
Yeah, you kind of run out of stuff to say
when he's going that way after a while. And I
mean I had never seen him in person. I seem
on TV plenty, but I had never seen him in person,
and it was, you know, I mean, maybe not his
absolute best, but it was really close, I think. And
when he's out there, I mean, obviously it's a massive weapon.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Uh what did you did you get any information as
to how they were going to proceed with him? They
still haven't announced a game one starter. What do you
think of him on three days rest, possibly going Saturday
against US, or do you think that they would air
toward waiting till game two?
Speaker 14 (22:50):
Yeah, I mean I think you throw him game two
because then if you get the game five, it's normal
rest anyway. So I don't know that you push it
going on three days. I think you throw on my
game two and and then if you got to throw
a game five, then that's then you got him. So
that I would assume. I didn't ask Aja. I don't
know that he was thinking that far ahead yet, but
(23:12):
that'd be my assumption is he probably goes game two,
and I don't know who they'd leave in Game one
for them, but ultimately.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well I'm down with that mobile pen
game and game one. I mean, when you when you're
sitting there getting ready for this, and you played in
the Big League, so you understand that the ebbs and
flows that happened during the season. But for a team
to scuffle or really kind of fall apart the way
that they did down the stretch and lose their division
and still find a way in the playoffs and then
(23:42):
get to redeem themselves, how much of a lingering effect
could would you think there still is? Or are they
completely rejuvenated after just winning that series and getting that
Cleveland Indians monkey off their back.
Speaker 14 (23:55):
Yeah, I don't think it plays into it, and I yeah,
I'm I mean it may have planned into it a
little bit, and in the first series in part because
you know, you play Cleveland a million times and they
beat him five out of six down the stretch and
that was the reason they were playing on the road.
But no, at this point, I honestly, I think it
(24:17):
was minimal at best in the first series, and I
don't think it will matter in this one. It just
you know, at the end of the day, they got in,
and they got in in a different way than people
thought they'd get in, but they got in, and not
only did they get in, now they're still there. So
I don't know that that figures into it. Now.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
There are seventeen statues of him in Omaha, Nebraska. His
name is Kyle Peterson, and he's joining us right here
on Chuck and Buck in the mornings again to talk
to Major League Baseball. He was on the call of
that the Tigers Guardian series and came away with all
sorts of valuable information he's going to share with us
up here in Seattle. So, I mean, are they good?
I mean, they were good early this year and then
(25:01):
they were terrible down the stretch, and I don't know
if they're clicking even in this series against the Guardians.
So what's just your overall assessment? How good a team
are the Mariners facing here over the course of the
next five days or so.
Speaker 14 (25:15):
Yeah, I think they're good. Yeah, I think they're really good.
I think they're It's interesting and so, I mean, AJ
was my college catcher for two years, so I've known
AJ for thirty years. But to see him in that
situation and kind of explain the things that they were
trying to do and platoon advantage, which I'm not sure
(25:38):
i'd heard that a whole lot until then. And that's
the way they're going to play is they're very matchup oriented,
and he'll match up right or left from an offensive
standpoint and from a bullpen standpoint at times that maybe
others wouldn't. And I think the playoffs probably magnify that.
So it makes it really interesting to watch because it's
(26:00):
not just here's R nine, here's your nine. I'll see
in three hours. It's very different and A's I mean
he's going to manage that way all the way through.
I mean they safety squeezed in the first game of
the wild Kurtzer then safety Shay. I asked him the
next day, I'm like, did you even know the sign?
Like Jeff turn asked somebody for the sign before he
(26:20):
gave it. It worked and it was the difference they
won two to one. So I think it becomes this
time of year, is that way anyway? Right? Like the
games are managed different and they're played different than they
are during one hundred and sixty two. You're not going
to take your start. Casey Miies came out in the
fourth end of the other day, give up one hit.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
You're not going to do that in May.
Speaker 14 (26:41):
But you'll do it now if you think that the
matchups allow you, from a bullpen standpoint to have an
advantage of the rest of the game, the rest of
the game. And that's that's why I love playoff baseball.
I just think it's it's managed, and it's played in
a very different way than the one hundred and sixty
two are during the year.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yeah, I mean, I can imagine you've chosen the different
path of basically just running Omaha and being the King
of Omaha or in the College World Series, but I
could imagine a world in which you would have been
a manager. And so if let's just put that hypothetical
hat on a little bit, if you were and all
of a sudden being a former starting pitcher yourself, if
(27:17):
you're getting ready to start the playoffs, and you know
you got Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, George Kirby, hopefully Brian
wu but he's kind of coming off a little bit
of a peck thing. I mean, when you're looking at
that as your starting rotation, is there any other manager
that would be more confident than you if you imagine
in a squad.
Speaker 14 (27:38):
No, I mean it's I think Seattle's the best team
in the American League right now, and I think that's
a big reason why. But I also think that the
way that their lineup is different things they could do
is a big reason for But No, to your point,
I think you would. I think the toughest thing is
I asked Stephen both this yesterday before the game. I'm like, hey,
how much do you bring in data as far as
(28:02):
making a decision if you're going to take a picture
generally a starting pitcher, but we're going to take a
picture out And he said, yeah, we do. And the
biggest thing is, like, you know, if you're a forcing
high carry guy and there's certain data analytics that tell
you exactly what you spin it at and throw it
at and things like that, and those are down, well,
(28:23):
if they're down, there's a higher probability you're going to
get hit. Even if you haven't got hit yet, there's
a higher probability you're going to get hit. And I
think that's the biggest thing. The starters when you get
to this point, because you know, the guys you named
off buck like they've made a lot of starts this year,
and so does the stuff carry through? Adrenaline is going
to be huge in the first couple of innings, and
(28:44):
then ultimately what does it look like after that? But
I do think I think the hardest decision for a
manager to make in the postseason is when to get
your starter. And then as the series goes on, it
changes more because it's totally dependent upon who's coming in
behind them. Days one and two, you know who's coming
behind him. But if you're burning guys early and often,
(29:07):
then I think that decision becomes a little bit more
and I think that's, to me, is the most interesting decision.
But I think it's the hardest decision for managers to
make in the postseason.
Speaker 7 (29:17):
So who you got your college buddies team or the
right team?
Speaker 9 (29:20):
Who?
Speaker 7 (29:20):
Who's who's winning this series?
Speaker 14 (29:23):
I got two and forty minute games. That's that's what
I got. I that's that's even if I'm not doing
the game. I got that. No, I I step. I'm
a fan of the red team that's playing on Saturday
against Michigan State, and aside from that, I just I'm
watching the rest of them.
Speaker 7 (29:41):
Okay, got it all right?
Speaker 14 (29:44):
Man?
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Well, Hey, thank you very much for some time. We
greatly appreciate it, and we'll bug you again. You've given
us the opportunity to bug you. We took advantage of it,
and we're going to do it again. I'm just warning
you in it advance.
Speaker 14 (29:55):
Hey man, have fun playoff. Baseball is the best, and
especially when it's when it's in your home.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
So that's a blessed all right, thank you, all right,
see you, Cole Harry.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Is Kyle Peterson joining us here right on chalking Buck
in the mornings as a little insight into what he
saw from Detroit and what he's seen from afar of
our Seattle Mariners. So series gets underway tomorrow evening five
thirty eight is the first pitch you Melon's going to
join us at nine o'clock with x's and o's coming
up next.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
A little college football to get.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
You going is we'll preview the Big ten weekend on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Hart you Melon's
going to join us at nine o'clock, x's and o's
here on a Friday.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
Yeah, we got baseball on the mine too.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
We'll have Brian Healey joining us at nine thirty as well.
What do you think the roster decisions are going to be, like,
what do you think this laten new information?
Speaker 7 (30:55):
Some odd Taylor going to make this team over Harry Ford?
Speaker 9 (30:57):
Do you think.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Possibly?
Speaker 5 (31:00):
But Harry Ford can run too, not as fast as
Samad Taylor.
Speaker 7 (31:03):
Yeah, it might interesting.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
I mean, I don't know who the heck they're gonna
who they're gonna keep.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
I mean, I think is Revos for sure.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
I think you'd keep Master Boney before you'd keep Samad Taylor.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Might be all three of them, though, I think Master Boney.
They're saying this's gonna be in. It might be Taylor
or Ford.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
Cole Young probably not gonna make the team because of
the slump he's been in, so a lot of interesting things.
And then who makes the team of WU doesn't make
the roster? Is that Luke Jackson?
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Is that Logan Evans for to give you a greater length,
I don't know, but it's I wish they'd just announced
it so we could start breaking it down and tell
them how wrong they were.
Speaker 7 (31:43):
All right, let's talk some college football.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
It is a Big Ten college football weekend, of course,
and here is your schedule for the week in the
Big Ten conference. We provide this service every Friday on
the show. You got Wisconsin at Michigan that's the nine
am kickoff, Illinois at Purdue that's also kicking off at
nine am.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Penn State, coming.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Off their first loss of the season, will be at UCLA,
and boy or things bad for the Bruins. I think
they're gonna get worse. That's a twelve thirty kickoff. Of course,
Dogs at Maryland also twelve thirty. You've got Northwestern hosting
Louisiana Monroe.
Speaker 7 (32:19):
Yeah, that's the.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
That's the duck dynasty, guys college Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah,
that's a duck case.
Speaker 7 (32:26):
You're wondering. There's a little fun fact for you.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Michigan State at Nebraska is a one o'clock kickoff, and
Minnesota at Ohio State that is at four thirty.
Speaker 7 (32:35):
Maybe Darius Taylor will finally play in a game. That
would be nice.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
So that means there are several teams on by this week.
That's Indiana, USC, Rutgers, Oregon and Iowa are all on by.
How does that affect us here in our Green Jacket
Fantasy football league where we do pickups every Friday. Well,
that means Kid and Bucky have two guys on by
(32:59):
this week because you have a Trojan and Hoosier each.
Ashley has a duck out this week, but she could
replace him.
Speaker 7 (33:08):
In our draft process. Sue that said, it is time
to draft Kid as the number one.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Pick in the draft, and he's not doing it. He
is not He's going to take two zero's this week.
Look at that christapher Kid. He is in second place
right now. Ashley retook the lead. She has four hundred
and five points. Kid has four hundred and three points.
Bucky's hanging in there. I am not so just to
clear that up, so Kid's gonna go ahead and pass.
(33:34):
Ashley gonna make a pick up this week.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
I've been debating it because I don't like taking a zero,
but I think, well, sorry, I was just checking one
more thing here. You know what, I think. I am
going to drop decoryan more. I'm gonna repick up Marsh, Nick.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Marsh, get Nick Marsh back in time to cover the
spread for me against Nebraska. There you go, Yeah, you've
got a responsibility. Nick, I'm giving you a duty. Get
that done for me.
Speaker 7 (34:05):
All right, Bucky, you are gonna make a pick.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
Up this week? Oh boy, this is tough. I'm not
gonna drop sir rot that's he's too good. But do
I want to get rid of the leading passer and
the big ten at this point? It's a rough one,
but I'm gonna do it. Go ahead, get rid of
Jaden Mayava.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
I would and uh a.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
Lot of good quarterbacks in the Yeah, there is.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
And though although I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and
pick up the guy that started with give me Julian
saying back.
Speaker 7 (34:34):
All right, he gets saying back on this roster. He's
just saying and I have to make a move because
I'm that bad.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
So I'm gonna go ahead and dump Fagan from Illinois,
and I am going to pick up Emmitt Johnson, the
running back out of Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
So there you go. That's a good pickup.
Speaker 7 (34:49):
I hope, man, I need a break.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
That's one that I was thinking about doing a couple
of weeks ago. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Well he is there, belcal. I mean they tend to
just go to him, uh, and they're running. So I
was able to dump Dame Key last week, and that
cleared the path for me to pick up a Nebraska Cornhusker.
Speaker 7 (35:07):
All right, So there you go.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Enjoy your Big Ten football, and of course make sure
you are listening to Husky's coverage starting at eight thirty
tomorrow morning out at Tom's Watch Bar.
Speaker 7 (35:17):
All the sports, all the time. That's where the Hanks
Are going to be doing.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
The pregame at eight thirty leads you all the way
up to kick off at twelve thirty. Pretty much starts
our wild crazy z Any weekend. So make sure you're
listening right here to our wild crazy z Ainy Weekend
on KJR coming up next X's and O's with Hugh Millon.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
