Speaker 1 (00:00):
I played Detroit. Nobody played this song when they walked
up at their place.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Okay, well it's our place exactly. Does it hit differently
that you're in Detroit listening?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Yeah, yeah, I'm going across eight mile after this.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I know I will not. It's Chuck and Buck. We
are on the road. That's right. We are in Detroit, Michigan,
here for the next couple of days. The Mariners, turns out,
are here as well. What a coincidence. Uh. And it's
all made possible by our friends at snow Qualme Casino
and Hotel. Seattle's Closest Seattle's Closest sports book is your

program is on the road. We flew after the show

(01:00):
last night here to Detroit, Michigan, had a nice overnight's
stay uh, and are now here at the iHeart Studios
in Detroit, where we have been treated, uh, you know,
sort of like C three p O by the e walks.
They have just carried us around like we're gods. Yeah yeah,
and understandably so. I mean the chanting of our names
every time we walk out is it's endearing. Well, but

(01:23):
it's a little makes me feel a little bit awkward.
They did just post up a bunch of like yogurt,
like they have an open yogurt for us too.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, I'm sure that was for us.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Interesting that only they are eating it and we haven't been. Yeah,
well yeah, I guess it's just assumed.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, well, of course, very much so assumed.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
These studios, by the way, are nice, Like there's a
little it's like the same equipment. Like iHeart really invested
heavily in white sterile tables and so they have like
the same to court. We have that red room Ashley
that you enter the theation with terrifying red box. Yeah,

(02:05):
terrifying red box that you're you're never one hundred percent
sure you're not going to be locked in forever every
time you pass through there. Yes, they've got one of those,
but there's just a little bit more charm. It's an
older building. It's got like brick to it, and these
people have really gone out of their way to make
it feel a little funkier, a little hipper, a little

(02:25):
posher than what we do back at home, to be honest.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, just feels like a red and white box.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah yeah, yeah, really really nice, really nice. I love
what you've done with the place here in Detroit.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Good job.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Why do we move ours into the space needle or something.
Let's be different here.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
We could be different a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
And there are old buildings in Seattle too, Yeah there are,
but you know, does anyone have a space needle? Uh so?
And there's also like a little store downstairs. And it
just says Detroit versus everybody, And I get that. It
kind of feels that way.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I would think in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Your football team is sort of the version of our
baseball team.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
You've had some good years, you've.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Had some electrifying players over the years, but you have
not been to the super Bowl. You're the Detroit Lions.
You haven't been to the super Bowl. And yet they've
got a team that has a chance, has had a
chance each of the last couple of years, and certainly
has a chance. Bucky just picked them a factor Fiction
for goodness sake, to meet the Chiefs for goodness sake.
So it's kind of a parallel there. You know, they've

(03:29):
been rooting for a team that I'm sure that they
don't always. I'm sure they think the worst is right
around the corner. And that's sort of the way Dustin
Nickerson and a lot of Mariner fans feel. So we're
sort of the equivalent of that. But you know, they
feel like it's Detroit versus everybody. It's an entire store
with T shirts every single franchise. They have Lions Tigers,

(03:52):
Tigers versus everybody, Lions versus everybody.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
That's sort of their.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Mentality apparently, and their sports scene here in Detroit. And
you know, maybe maybe we don't quite subscribe to that,
but certainly with this Mariners team, it's like, sorry, bubs,
you're not the lovable losers in this series. No, we
want it more. We're a little hungrier. You got tickets

(04:16):
going for like eighty five bucks right now. We just
came out of forty seven thousand strong for two straight nights,
and we are hungrier than what you are, no matter
how hungry you think you are.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, well, I think there's them against everybody thing. Remember
a couple of years ago with the Michigan fiasco, all
that stuff that was going on, the controversy. Then it
was Michigan versus everybody the year they went on and
won it all anyway, So I think that they're just
now taking that to all of their sports teams. But yeah,
you know, you ain't starved like we're starved for this thing.
There's just sorry about it. And ultimately, I think that

(04:51):
this team was up in arms. Now they won a series,
and they've won one game and in this series so far.
But you just got to figure just a week ago,
two weeks ago, maybe this team was in the middle
of one of the biggest collapses ever in the second half.
I mean, I remember over hearing the bartender talking to
some of the folks, some TV people from Seattle that

(05:12):
were in Tommy's The Wonderful Ball that it is yesterday,
and he's like, I just you guys are just better
than we are here. Yeah, it is. It's nice that
you guys are honest with yourself flairity. You should get
ready to be honest with yourself today too, the Midwest
self awareness.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You know, he's I mean, he was at one point.
I don't know if Jack Flairdy ever became a great pitcher,
but he was certainly reached very good status. And look,
I got a pretty harsh.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
You know definition.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I only want to call something great if it truly
is great, So I don't throw the word great around loosely.
So I'm not gonna I'm gonna gonna throw it around
to describe Jack Flaherty at any time during his career.
But at one point he was very good and it
looked like he was on the verge of becoming great
for a long period of time. I Uh, from what
I understand in Saint Louis, there were some attitudinal issues.

(06:03):
He seemed to be angry at everybody in the world,
and he still kind of carries that chip on his shoulder.
But he got here to Detroit. He wasn't asked to
be the man that was that belonged to Trek Schoubl
and he ended up having a very good year last
year and his first year with the Detroit Tigers. This
year's come back to reality. There there goes gravity nice uh,

(06:25):
and so he's come back to a reality a little bit.
And yet the numbers are kind of weird with him
the two thirty nine batting average against for the season.
That's a pretty good number. That's a that's a good
number for a starting pitcher. To have a two thirty
nine opponent's batting average against seven sixteen ops not terrible

(06:46):
and so but he has the four point six four
ERA overall, that's not good. He's got the five point
two seven road Er. Maybe you understand why they prefer
to pitch him at home, which he'll get to do tonight.
And he does have some pretty serious splits. Six sixty
six ops versus right handers, which is solid, but the
seven sixty two ops against left handers, so I guess

(07:09):
it's a long way of saying he can be gotten too.
He sometimes is his own worst enemy. He has a
very talented pitcher, there's no question about that. But against
a lineup that we're probably gonna put almost an entirely
left handed line I would imagine we were playing Canzone

(07:30):
over Rollblaze tonight.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
So or maybe both.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Of them are in the lineup and Canzone's the DH,
but it sounds they can get to him with left handers.
So we'll see how I got to figure out the
Naylor situation. See how they might want to use Rayley.
I can almost guarantee you can zones in the lineup tonight.
So this is somebody that, yeah, you can't take him lightly,
but he's no Logan Gilbert.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Right, Yeah, I mean he's he He threw in the
series against Cleveland and went four and two thirds, only
gave up three hits in one run, So it was
a good outing. Like it's just one like you kept
your team in the ballgame, and and and and so
I mean he's capable of doing that, and really anybody's
capable of doing that in the big league last year,
though his playoffs last year were atrocious. I mean he

(08:16):
was with the Dodgers at the time, but he had
like a seven to three era, I mean, giving up
a lot.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Of runs and a lot of home runs.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
And so hopefully we can channel that guy a little
bit today. And yet it really boils down to I
think he's a guy that you can get right. We
were talking about Trek Schouble and the fear that comes
with that is his stuff is crazy, nasty, and he
doesn't make a lot of mistakes, so you've got to
you gotta capitalize every time he does. I think Clardy
will make a couple more mistakes, you just still need
to capitalize on it offensively. And then I just kind

(08:44):
of hope that Logan Gilbert goes out there and does
Logan Gilbert things and puts up a bunch of zeros.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I think Logan Gilbert's going to be fine. I mean,
I'm not going to say that he leaves the game
and the seventh inning with a shutout and you know,
two hit shutout, I'm not going to put that on him.
But I think he keeps you certainly in the game.
He's gonna keep that number low for the Tigers. Maybe
they get him for a run or two. But what
we talked about after the postgame and during the postgame

(09:10):
show in game number two on Sunday Night, brought to
you by snowqual Me Casino, was seeing more people contribute
to game number two than they did to.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Game number one.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
So I think Gilbert gets the job done. But I
think where we win this game tonight is this is
where you tap into the depth of that offensive lineup
that you have assembled, thanks in part to the acquisitions
at the trading deadline. And again we don't know if
Naylor's going to play tonight, but I even went out him.

(09:42):
I think it's just a deeper lineup than what you've
had in a number of years. On Game number one,
only two guys even showed up, and in Game number
two you got more contributions from more guys off.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Of that roster.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
I'm expecting that to escalate into tonight. I think we're
gonna not only get more contributions, I think we're gonna
get some damn from the lower part of the lineup
tonight against Flaherty. And I wouldn't be surprised if Dom
Canzone isn't authoring.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Some of that damage. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Well, I mean he's been hot the last month of
the season. He was really swinging. He most certainly deserves
to have the opportunity to go, and this is the
prime situation to do it. The whole Naylor thing throws
everything kind of up in the air a little bit,
just because I think it makes it almost a guarantee
Canzone is in even if he probably would have been
even if Naylor was here. But the idea then of okay, well,

(10:30):
then is Luke Rayley in there? If not, then are
you gonna dh Luke Rayley? Or would you still want Roebliss,
because Robust before the injury would have been a guy
you just presume would have been in the lineup every day,
right he left, he nothing because of the spark that
he brings. So I am interested to see what Dan's
going to be doing when he's writing out the lineup
card today.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah well yeah, I mean, maybe it belongs to Roeblaz
and ride and Canzone's your DH, and then Naylor's at
first under an ideal world. If not, maybe it is
Raleigh at first base. I don't if fired, he splits,
I would think you want a left hand, left handed
hitter in the lineup, Raley at first, and then Roblay

(11:09):
stays and right can Zone is still your DH at
that point. So I mean, if you did have to
move away from Naylor, I guess there's a possibility that
you go defense at third, But I'm not sure Suarez
is even an upgrade at first base over Rayley, who
wasn't even good this year defensively at first base, and

(11:29):
it's certainly a drop off over.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
There no matter what you do beyond Naylor. Yeah, well,
that's a definite.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
If Naylor's is still beside his wife awaiting the birth
of a child. Yeah, you're going you're taking a significant
step backwards defensively, regardless of who you put over there,
you don't have anybody that can play it as well
as Naylor does. And so do you want to then
just keep Gino in his normal spot or do you
want to go with what you feel like is an
upgrade defensively, but most certainly not an upgrade off, even

(12:00):
though I like the idea of him going out there
and grinding Ben Williamson, that is, going out and grinding
a couple of abs, put the ball in play and
see what happens. But either way, I mean, I think
the beauty is is that you kind of have a
rose arena. Hopefully he can get back on track Cal
and Julio and just basically a top part of your roster,
and then if the bottom part of your lineup chips
in a little bit, yeah you could.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
A five spot, put up a five to six spot.
We're good.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
I gotta feel that though tonight I think like five
two six two. That's kind of what I'm feeling for
this evening. I do think we're gonna get major not
just contributions. I think we're gonna get some damage outside
of Julio and cal And and Polonko, who obviously are
the guys that have done They're the guys that have
done the damage so far in this series. That said,

(12:44):
it doesn't mean that I don't want those three guys,
you know, contributing, of course. And I think Julio Rodriguez
has really set quite the course for himself. He is
off to a tremendous start here in the playoffs. I
think he is somebody that you try so hard. He
wants to come through so badly that sometimes that can

(13:05):
get him outside of his game and his approach at
the plate. But for him to have gotten off to
the great start in Game number one, even in a loss,
but to get three hits that night and pretty much
be the only guy that was doing any damage at
the plate. And then in Game number two, yeah, Derek
Scouble kind of toyed with him. He didn't get a

(13:26):
ball out of the infield and those first three at bats.
But the moment you went to somebody who wasn't an ace,
the moment you went to Kyle Finnegan, he's ready to
jump all over. The moment you didn't have schoobl in
the game once you went to Finnegan. He was ready
to jump all over that reliever who he had seen
in back to back nights. So for him to be

(13:48):
off to this good start, I mean, this isn't just
a great sign, maybe a harbinger of things to come
for this series, but maybe for the entire playoff if
we can advance. I think Julio getting off to a
great start, feeling confident, I think could end.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Up providing huge dividends.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Well, yesterday he did a press conference and it was
one of the more articulate press conferences I've seen him,
or any Mariner do for that matter. And what I
mean by that, he's always a good interview, but it
was very cool, it was very chill. It was very confident,
just quietly confident the way in which he was answering questions.

(14:30):
And I think that comes from him being one of
the hottest hitters in the second half period. But then
when you get into the postseason, it's different. It's a
different season. It's one of those you don't you know,
the stakes are higher, and so you don't want to
kind of backslide into bad habits. And so for him
to start off the way that he has in these
couple games is definitely something where I think he's feeling

(14:50):
real good for the flight here to Detroit. When he
goes to the yard, I think he's feeling real good
about himself. Now, you got to just stay within yourself
and when Flaerty makes a mistake, make him pay for it.
I'm expecting big things for him just this entire postseason,
because he's a dude that when he gets hot and
his mind's right, when.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
His mind and I think his mind's right.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Yeah, so I think he's not just a dangerous element
for Jack Flaherty tonight, but you know, hopefully with an advancement,
I mean, I think that we could be in store
for just a really memorable I mean Cal, it was
the year of Cal the regular season, and he had
to sit back there and watch Cal kind of overtake
him as the face of the franchise. And he's the

(15:29):
guy that's getting the MVP chance from the crowd, and
he took it well. I mean he with a smile
on his face. It's not like he sat over there
in the corner and pouted. He had to come out
of his own first half slump. But don't think for
a second that Julio Rodriguez doesn't have that thing burning
inside his heart where he wants that same thing he
he you know, yeah, Cal might end up being the

(15:52):
MVP of the American League. Julio Rodriguez, why don't you
be the MVP of the World Series?

Speaker 3 (15:56):
How about that?

Speaker 2 (15:57):
How about we make that a goal and we can
chance some MVP letters at you later on.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
I think that the beauty of this team is that
there isn't a selfishness of I want him to not
be it so I get to be it, right. I
think it's one of those I think Julio is while
he there has been a passing, if you will, of
the who's the face of the franchise at this point
in time, I think that he's gladly like cheering on
Cal and watching this amazing season he's having. On the

(16:23):
flip side of it, I can guarantee you Cal is
a okay with him getting the driving in the game
winning run or having a big knock or having a
great postseason and helping carry this squad. I don't think
there's any part of these and that's not that that
stuff happens. You will have selfish dudes that don't want
you to succeed because they want the limelight. I don't
think this team has those type of guys.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yeah yeah. Meanwhile, Jared Kelnick's sitting at home going. I
gave him his nickname. I wanted to be a part
of it too, Jared, I know, I agree. I think
it is sad. I hope somebody picks him up. He
got waved by the Braves for goodness sake. Wave just
released by. He's his career's not done.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
He maybe will never be able to figure it out
between the years enough to be a good big leaguer.
But he's gonna get another opportunity.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
He does too much.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Corettle Rockies not signed Jared Kalmick if he's available on
the waiver wire. He doesn't make any money. How do
the Colorado Rockies and they're desperate, Smike not say somebody will.
We'll take a chance on a guy that was neck
and neck with Julio Rodriguez and considered a better prospect
than Cal Raleigh and that in the Mariners organization four
years ago.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
His tools jump off page. It's just the between the years,
which is the most important tool. He struggles with.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
You know, sharp between the ears?

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Who fits you yeah, he is from Detroit, except.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
That he's from Detroit. So I don't know what we're
gonna do. We've been talking trash about everybody from Detroit
all morning long.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
We're gonna keep it going.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
And and yet we have our friend ever it fits you, uh.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
And he's my friend.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
He's very nice too, yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Really nice, but he's not my friend today or tomorrow.
Not Well, this series is going on.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
See how we're gonna handle this interview. I feel like
I need a trash I think we stand him up,
but I also want to be really nice to him.
So Evert fits you. The voice of the cracking joins us.
Next we'll see what the Detroit Man has to say
about his team getting ready to lose the series. Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ r f M jamming
out in his room and mom saying, turn that noise down,

(18:17):
and he's like, Mom, it's Jack White, right.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
I don't know. Maybe I'm getting a little slept up
in it, no doubt, but I'm in Detroit and I
feel like everywhere I go Evertt fits, he's with me.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Yeah, no, I get it.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
And normally, like literally every single leather day outside of
this week. I would be excited about it. Instead it
makes me better. I don't like it. Jeez, this is
like this, Everett hangs out. You can't say that about
a friend. Oh what I'm saying now.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
The voice of the crack and Everett fits you is
with us. Good morning, Everett.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Not good are we? Are we really friends? If we
can't talk smack about one another? I appreciate it. I
welcome it. And Bucky, it's Chuck right. It's like you
had that conversation with my mom. It was literally thirteen
fourteen year old Everett turned that music down. It's eleven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Go to sleep, all right, So give us some advice.
What's something that we should be doing. I mean, we're
not gonna have much downtime, but if we get any downtime,
what do we gotta make sure that we do Here
in Detroit?

Speaker 5 (19:28):
You gotta get Detroit style pizza, all right. You gotta
go find the sixth Corner Pizza. There's a couple of
places you can go. Jets As always a classic place
in Detroit, but there's a few downtown by the ballpark.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
So get some Detroit style pizza.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Also, maybe about a mile from where you are.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
There's a Coney Island.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
There's two Coney islands. There is American Coney Island and
there's Lafayette Coney Island chili dogs. There is a lifelong,
long standing tradition of who's better. Are you a Lafayette
cony dog person or you an American coney dog person.
There's one out of the suburbs called National. We don't

(20:13):
talk about National. It's American, it's Lafayette. They're right next door.
Go get one, do a taste tests, and you decide
who's got the better coney in the city of Detroit.
So those are the two things that I would recommend
that you do.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
We were driving to our hotel and I said to Bucky,
you know, I don't know what Detroit food that they're
famous for, other than the pizza. I don't know what
they'rea and so we asked. As soon as we got
to the hotel, we asked Danielle, who was awesome and
I hope she loses Games three and four. But we
asked Danielle about what's the food, What food are you

(20:45):
known for? And to my utter shock, she goes Coney
Island food. I'm like, wait a minute, Coney Island in
New York, and apparently that's what you guys are known
for here in Detroit. Coney Island food. That was stunning
to me.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Yep, Coley Island. So chili, dog and fries. I'm telling
you it's Try it.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
You will not be appointed. I did last night. I
had some shoe string fries with chili and cheese on.
He went right to it.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
You well, I know you wish you were with us
hanging out of the ballpark tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
That'd be fun.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
I do, I do, I really do.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Listen, I've not I've not actually been to a game
at Camerica Park probably in ten years. I mean I've
been gone for a long time, so it's been a
long it's been a while since.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
I've been back.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
But no, I mean, you guys are in for a treat.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
You know, the last.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
Decade of Detroit sports outside of the Lions, have not
been kind to Detroit people. So you were you were
going to be experiencing a very rare home playoff appearance
in the city of Detroit over the last ten fifteen years.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Well, I think under different circumstances maybe you would be
with us. But obviously you guys some big things to
do this week. So opening days coming up on Thursday.
How fired up are you for some Crack and hockey, sir.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
I'm excited. I'm very excited.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
I think I think training camp for me as well
as for a lot of other people, opened up some
eyes that I feel a lot of the criticism that
this Cracking team has been getting maybe a little bit misplaced.
I think this team is shaping up to be better
than a lot of people are giving them credit for.

(22:32):
I mean, I think with the new style, the new
system of play that that lane Lambert is trying to instill,
you know, it's going to be a very defensive minded
style like it's going to be a very hard working, grinding,
depth team game. You go back to year two, I
say this all the time, that style of play is

(22:55):
what led the Crack into the playoffs. I mean they
had thirteen guys with rear highs of goals, assists, or points.
And then you know every team in the NHL that
they will tell you through those first couple of years,
but especially in year two when the team made the playoffs,
you know, the Kraken they may not be the most
talented team, they may not have the superstar, they may

(23:18):
not have this or that, but man, they are going
to outwork you every single night. You know that you
played this team, you always lead games against Seattle herting
with new bruises or you're just gased. And I feel
like that's the type of style and that's the type
of team that we're setting up to see this season.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Fitzia.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
We talked to Joey to court earlier today and I
had asked him about the youngsters and the Nyman and
Winterton and Caton that are all making this opening day
roster and just asked him about how that must feel,
right because it was just a couple of years ago
that he had that same experience. But I'm going to
ask you, how big of a role do you expect
these youngsters to play, because I mean, for the most part,

(24:02):
they're they're fairly unproven at the highest level.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Yeah, I mean, and listen, you're not.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
There are no gimmes, there are no charity.

Speaker 4 (24:10):
You know, roster spots in the NHL.

Speaker 5 (24:12):
These guys have earned their spots and and they're expected
to produce. And I think in the case of Yannie Newman,
we saw what he's capable of with a lethal shot.
He's you know, a big physical body. He's learning how
to use his strengths and improve in the NHL every
single day. We saw that last year in training camp.

(24:32):
You know, he at one point let the NHL in
preseason goals. Now, say what you want. I know Al
Koniski calls them PPPs preseason for ten points.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
But listen, it still goes a long way. It still
goes a long way and.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Helping to to grow the confidence. So I think Janny
Newman is gonna be a guy that's going to be
leaned on Bertie Katton. You know, his first you know,
his first couple of games in the preseason, you could
tell there was going to be that adjustment.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
To the NHL.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
With a Laye Lambert moves him over to the wing.
I thought that he had his better three games of
the preseason on the wing. He was a little bit
more creative. He was allowed to showcase that skill and
that speed and that creativity that he's known for.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
So I think he's going to adjust well over there.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
And with Ryan Winterton, this is a big opportunity for
him because when he was drafted in the third round
back in twenty one, he was seen as that middle
six power forward, think of a Jaden Schwartz type of player.
That's the kind of guy that they want Ryan Winterton
to be. And now he's going to have the opportunity
to get a consistent NHL shift. We've seen it and

(25:40):
flashes during his call ups over the past couple of years.
But now he's going to be able to slide into
the lineup on a regular basis and get that regular
shift that I think a lot of young guys need.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
To be successful.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
You know, when you look at a guy like Shane Wright,
he was in and he was out. He was in,
he was out. If you can keep these guys in
the lineup for three, four or five games at a time,
get their timing right, get their confidence up, not overreact
to every mistake. These guys are going to make mistakes.
These things happen, but it's how they react and how
they respond and how they recover from those mistakes.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
I think that are going to leave the biggest impact.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Well, I'm a little worried that Mike Menton's too obsessed
with Berkeley Catton. He just talks about I think he
carries a small little picture of him in his wallet.
That's something like that.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
He's got the you know, the Hey Arnold shrine that
Helga had to Arnold.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
You know in the.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Corner, he's got birthday cat and he's stuff in the corner.
I listen, I get it.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
I mean, you know, he's coming off of back to
back one hundred plus points seasons in the Western Hockey League.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Definitely the most dynamic, skilled prospect the Cracking have had.
And you're in that middle ground.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
You're in that no man's lands. Nineteen years old.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
You can't send him to the American Hockey League, So
you know, you may have to treat these first handful
of games for him as kind of an extended spring
training extended training camp, if you will, Because is he
going to get better by going back to the WHL
continuing to dominate. You're not going up against better competition

(27:22):
or you have them here in Seattle. In the NHL,
you're practicing against NHL players, you're playing against NHL players,
You're on an NHL diet and weight plan and all
of that. So you know, there are a lot of
different items to weigh. When it came to does Berkeley
katt and make this team? Does he not make this team.
I think he showed enough in preseason to be given

(27:45):
that extra look. But like I said, just because you're
nineteen years old and a rookie in the league, it's
not going to be easy. We've seen that with Matty Veneers,
We've seen that with Shane Wright. It's going to be work,
and I think he's up for the challenge and he's
ready to work.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
All right, Well, we will honor and respect your hometown,
but we are so glad you are one of us
now in Seattle. So what do you guys got planned
for Thursday night that we need to know about anything special?

Speaker 5 (28:15):
Well, we got the Blue Carpet, which I'm hosting. The
blue Carpet side player arrivals start at three o'clock, so
I'll be there and announcing the guys as they head.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
Up to the rink.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
We're gonna be giving away three Amazon blankets giveaway that
night to everyone who comes down to the games. And listen,
you got two chances to see this team before they
go on the road early. You've got Thursday against Anaheim,
You've got Saturday against Vegas, and then this team's on
the road for twelve days. So I mean it comes
at you pretty quick. Like I said, it's gonna be

(28:50):
it's gonna be a better year. I think that people
getting a credit for You've got a brand new intro
that we're excited to unveil this season as well. So
make sure that if you're coming to the game on Thursday,
you're in your seats before six point fifty so you
can check out the brand new intro that we got
a lot of cool things to the fans, new concession items,
new merchandise items. I mean, this is it's going to be,

(29:13):
you know, a very strong year, definitely off.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
The ice, but I think on the ice as well
for the this season of Crack and Hockey.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
That's right and at the Everett and Owl Show right
here on the flagship for the Crack in Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
You are the man.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
We look forward to seeing you again and having further
conversations about this. So thank you, sir, Appreciate it and
have a blast Thursday night.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Hey, thanks so much, guys. Enjoy Detroit. Say hi to
my mom for me and tell her that I will
be home for her birthday in November.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Okay, we will.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
She wants to meet us at Tommy's tonight. That's probably
where we're gonna be afterwards, so that'll be great.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
Great spot.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Everett fits you the voice of your Seattle cracking right
here on Chucking Buck in the morning. Of course, the
team debuts this Thursday at home against the Anaheim Ducks,
and for those wondering, it is a cracking ticket Tuesday,
that's right, we're gonna do it for the opener. We've
got tickets to the opener that we're giving away every
single hour here on the flagship. So when you hear

(30:14):
that piece of audio, it's we call it a sounder,
but it's just like a piece of audio, and it's
very clear as to what the message is. It's going
to indicate for you to call at two oh six
two eight six ninety five ninety five two o six
two eight six ninety five ninety five when you hear it,
be the tenth caller and you're going to win. You're
not going to qualify for a pair of tickets. We're

(30:35):
gonna give you a pair of tickets to see the
opener Thursday against Anaheim. Maybe they'll even let you watch
walk the Blue Carpet and ever it fits you will
or announce your name.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
That'd be cool. That's not gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Oh, but nonetheless all sorts of It's not just the game,
it's a it's a big ceremony, it's a big night,
and you got a chance to be a part of it.
So every single hour be listening for that sounder and
your opportunity to win a pair of tickets to see
the Crack and play Thursday at Climate Pledge Arena coming
up next. Man, we get ready to face the Tigers

(31:06):
in Game number three, and I wasn't expecting this enemy
to possibly spoil our plans. We'll talk about it next.
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Casino has helped
make it possible that we are getting to go participate
in games three and four of the divisional round of
the series. Mariners getting ready to take on the Tigers tonight,

(31:29):
and so we broadcast live from the iHeart studios here
in Detroit, and we're certainly thanking them here in iHeart
as well.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
We've been doing a lot of really hardcore trash talk
towards Detroit today.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
I mean probably have hit to the core of some
Michiganders out there.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
We do have casinos they hail in comparison to the
snow Quomia.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Yeah, well yeah, you're gonna have to eat that one.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
No, that Troit.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
But they really have been wonderful to us, so we
are appreciative of it. If we do have an enemy tonight,
I don't know if it's Kerry Carpenter. I don't know
if it's Riley Green. I don't know if it's Jack
Flaherty or Will Vest coming out of the bullpen. The
one thing that I know Ashley and I kind of
fear with this baseball team is whenever they get out

(32:16):
of their routine, rain is a possibility, not just today,
but during the course of the game tonight. Now, maybe
the forecast has changed, but I looked it up at
six o'clock this morning. It's kind of muggy right now
here in Detroit. It was up there like ninety degrees yesterday,
and so they got that cold front moving in and

(32:37):
so it's colliding with the warm weather from yesterday, and
it's supposed to create some thunderstorms around noon and they're
supposed to last a couple of hours.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
No problem.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
I mean, Baseball's process for keeping water off the field
is unbelievable. And their teams are unbelievable at getting the
field ready, so that's not a problem. It's supposed to
clear out at two and then by game time you
still are gonna have a chance of rain, Bucky, but
the thunderstorm should be in the rear view mirror about

(33:07):
a forty percent chance of rain at game time, and
then there's gonna be about a fifty percent chance.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Of rain throughout the game.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
So, I mean, I believe it. I think we have
to have a discussion about the weather report because I've
watched this team get out of its routine and go
into a major slump. Not just for the day, they
had a rain out and didn't win a game for
two weeks. So I don't know if they handle this

(33:34):
stuff all that well. It could be the biggest enemy tonight.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
I mean, yeah, it could be that there's something to it,
or it could just be coincidence that it just so
happens that they played kind of some of their worst
baseball on the heels of getting their routines messed up.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
I would hope that it doesn't affect it.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
As a matter of fact, I'm gonna say that it won't.
I think I don't I don't want. I don't think
we're gonna have to have any delay. It's just based
on what I'm looking at the map, the radar, we're
gonna have some stuff here coming up in the next
couple hours. Some rain come through, but that's fine. These
new fields drain. Well, it's that you can't be playing
in the torrential downpour. You can handle some rain beforehand,

(34:12):
and then it starts dropping off fairly, fairly heavily. The
thunderstorms part of it, which is what would delay it,
or heavy rain that drops off. You still have a
forty to fifty percent chance that there's some rain, but
I think it'll just be a little bit that you
can play through, and so we won't have.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
To worry about whether or not.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
We're talking tomorrow about how they just didn't look like
themselves because they were sitting in the clubhouse playing cards
for a couple hours waiting to get back on the field.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Well, I think the worries me just from a baseball perspective,
is Logan pitches two in the third innings, there's a
hour rain delay, and then does he come back the
same guy as he was before the rain delay? This
sort of stuff, I mean I don't think we're I
think we're right to be a little worried about this
because we've watched this. They play with a roof over

(34:56):
their heads. They never have to worry about it at home,
and it seems like every time they go on the
road and they're delayed at all by weather, they just
don't play well. And so maybe it is coincidence, but
I'm a little concerned about it, and I'm really concerned
if there's a lengthy what rain delay, and Dan and
the team decide that Logan doesn't go back out and
only get we only get two and a third innings.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Out of him tonight. Yeah, well, that's that would be
the worst part.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Start the game, get him out there, get him loose,
and then all of a sudden there's a delay to
the point where you don't bring him back out.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
That would suck.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
I mean, it's kind of a wasted appearance, so to speak,
a wasted start. And yet it just doesn't seem like
that's what's gonna happen. I mean, looking out there, I've
went out multiple times. It's not raining right now, But
right now is when it's supposed to be rolling in
the radar showing it rolling in right now, and we
still have what time is it almost noon? We still
got four hours until game time, So go ahead, you

(35:48):
can rain a little bit right now. I just think
it's going to be there's gonna be some rain during
the game. I'd be willing to bet, but I don't
think it's gonna be enough that they're gonna pause the game,
have to cancel, you know, have to go into any
sort of big lone Raindewy.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
That's my hope as well.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Old Judge Coming your Way at nine thirty. It will
be a Detroit edition of the Old Judge Coming your Way.
Coming up next, though, we feel like we have to
talk to Rick Neuheisel after this last week of college football,
so he'll join us for his normal Tuesday segment on
