Two games to one lead in the Alds.

And today they can salt away this entire series and
advance to the American Camp Series with a win here today,
and they'll have two bites at that apple. If it
doesn't work out today, then it's back home to Seattle
for Game number five and that will decide the series.
But the Mariners have a chance to close it out

(01:05):
here in Detroit, and we are here to bring it
to you from Michigan, and we welcome you to the show.
Bucky Jacobson us here. My name is Chuck Powell. Ashley's
back in Seattle, but we come to you live here
this morning for a second morning in a row from Michigan,
where we watched wonderful, wonderful results last night.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Bucky Jacob said, that was some good stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
It really was. It was a lot of time. Ran
into a lot of people that didn't travel here from Seattle,
and they were like, well.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
A bad day, I'm not really pretty good actually.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Pretty good day over all day.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah, actually Seattle fans. Yeah, as a matter of fact,
So hi.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Fine, but I gotta say, I mean, we've got to
talk about this for a minute before we dive into
this game. Bucky and I are really like overwhelmed by
how nice these people, even the ones that are despondent
about their tigers losing to the Mariners, and they find
out that we're Mariner fans, are like so gracious about it,

(02:15):
Like it's unreal what we're experiencing. Last night, we're walking home.
We went to Tommy's for a second straight night, and
we're going back again tonight because the place is that good.
And so we're walked back and like and I Bucky
and I are just dumbfounded, like, can you believe how kind.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
These people are? I mean, it is unbelievable. So I
walk in this morning and I'm like, I'm.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Probably imagining that. I'm sure that that didn't. I'm sure
we're just exaggerating. We're having a good time. We're feeding
off Mariner, you know winds.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, we're just we're letting it.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Go to our heads in our hearts, that's all. They're
not as nice as I imagine. So I go and
I try to find a fork this morning here at
the iHeart Studios in Detroit. And I walk in and
there's this young man, probably twenty five years old, and
he says.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well, good morning, welcome to Detroit.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it. It's great to be here.
Everybody's been very nice. Is there a plastic fork that
I could grab? Is there a plastic fork that you
can grab?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Of course?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And he rows over and he pulls open a drawer
and there's just supplies for days and there's a thousand
plastic forks in there. Hey, I want you to know,
you just make yourself at home. I mean, you were
a part of our family. So anything around here, there's tea,
there's coffee, it's yours.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, And I'm like yeah, And I'm like, is there
a track being played on us?

Speaker 5 (03:41):
I really feel like we're getting punked?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah? Is there a hidden for nice? What is happening?
I thought that these people were like rough. I thought
that we were going to have to like watch our backs.
I thought I would get stabbed in the back.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
With a plastic fork if if we beat the Tigers
in game number three. And here's this guy just like, yeah,
you know, our home is your home. Jake is his name.
I mean, we don't even provide supplies in Seattle for ourselves.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
No much less for guests that roll into town.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, there's no secret stash somewhere for the guests. I mean,
it's hard to find any kind of fork, uh in
our kitchens. And we've got nice studios. But I don't
know what's happening over here. But this guy was like,
you know, getting foot rubs in the you know, in
the meeting rooms. You know, I mean, whatever you want,
this guy's got your covered.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
What do you what's your favorite snack?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Starburst? Well I might have some, right, So happens jumbo pack? Yea,
it opens up his coat. I mean, are we getting punked?
Because this is unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
I don't happen.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I feel like a memo came out that, like, you know,
somehow they told people, hey, if you see this giant
bald ginger guy and this other you know guy Chuck,
if you if you see them, just be nice. They
have really had a tough thing on which we don't,
you know, like like they're going through a lot just
I mean, it's honestly that it's so over the top.

(05:05):
The dumbfounded is a perfect word for it. We walked
out of Tommy's again like what isn't that what I mean?
I don't even know how. I mean, I told Tommy
last night when we met the owner that I might
just tell my family pack up, we're moving to Detroit.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
I traveled all.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Around the country playing a minor league ball for all
those years, and then I always was like, the Northwest
is home. Northwest is home, and that's it's the best play.
It's just because I didn't spend enough time in Detroit, babe.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, we got three hugs from three different employees
as we were leaving last night.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Then we've known for two days. I mean, I said
like forty words to Jody.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Trying to pick up our tab.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
You guys are gonna be here tomorrow. I'm gonna be
off hug. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I don't think we were overly charming, if anybody's making that.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yeah possible.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, I think we were just open to their charms
and they liked it.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
We reciprocated.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
So anyway, Detroit, you've been a great host, and you
even let us kick your ass last night, So thank you.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
You couldn't be more accommodating here.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
We come into your town, we try to steal your lunch,
we do it, and you say.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I've been told have a blessed day, yes, six times, David.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I was even shooting a video last night for the
social media apparently that's a thing, and I'm trying to
do something from the Mariners perspective. But I'm out in
the middle of a bunch of Tiger fans and there
was one guy and I could see that he was
overhearing what I was doing, and I was talking a
little trash in my little video U and I'm in

(06:44):
the midst of it, and he comes over and he's
got no Tigers are going to win. Goes back and forth,
and so we have a little bit of an exchange
on the video and then he just starts laughing. He goes,
you're all right, wow, even when I'm talking trash.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Like you so nice, you so cool over me.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
My daughter, Yeah, she's for crabs.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, it's it's been great. Thank you for being a
great host, and we plan to destroy you tonight. All right, Well,
let's talk about the game. It is Chuck and Buck.
We are here in Detroit, Michigan. They've been a great
host to us, but we have baseball to discuss. Mariners
win it last night by a final score of eight

(07:29):
to four. It was a complete effort by this team.
Logan Gilbert got the job done as a starter, the
team from top to bottom, and that's what they've been
waiting for, is what we've been waiting to see.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Again.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Was very effective. You score eight runs on the night,
and even the bullpen had done its job pretty much.
Everyone but Ferguson really played well last night.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, And Ferguson made it unnecessarily uncomfortable there in the
ninth and we had to bring in Muniose to put
out his but nonetheless pretty convincing win last night in
game number three, eight to four was the final score,
and there certainly were good vibes in the clubhouse, and
yet an absolute you know, focus on jobs not done

(08:16):
and we're just getting started. You just really feel like
this team really understands the moment. I mean, that's the
impression that I've gotten being around them here in these
playoffs thus far. They really understand the moment, They understand
what's at stake, they understand how badly the fan base
wants it. They want it that badly, and yet they're

(08:37):
keeping everything in perspective. And that's a pretty encouraging sign
for me. Yeah, it's a great sign. I mean, you know,
you'll hear it and you see it actually even more
than you hear about it. When you're watching sports where
when a team comes together, when a team is playing
good team sport whatever it is, baseball, football, whatever, you

(08:58):
kind of get the feel that this team is.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
They know who they are now. It's not a team.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Last year we watched a ton of games where it
felt like you had, you know, four or five guys
at the top of the lineup that they were gonna
have to provide the punch. They were gonna have to
provide the offense at least the spark to get something going,
and you maybe I'll get a little chip in from
the bottom. This team, I think understands that there's not
as much pressure on each individual bat. You don't have
to come through because the dude behind you might, and

(09:26):
he doesn't have to come through because the guy behind
him might, and you might not for a couple of innings,
and then all of a sudden, it might be Victor
Roebus that gets the spark going. And then then one
after another after another, and you're putting up a couple
of crooked numbers. That is a recipe for success with
his pitching staff because then they can pound the zone
and get ahead of guys. They don't have to worry
about one mistake costing them the game. And so, I mean,

(09:49):
I just feel like yesterday was the prime example of
you didn't have everybody contribute. As a matter of fact,
Julio Polonko, Naylor, your three four to five guys go
oh for fourteen. I mean I think Naylor Polanco ended
up having a walk in there, yeah, you know, and
there was a couple other good abs from those guys,
but for the most part they didn't contribute offensively, and
you still ended up putting up eight runs. So it

(10:09):
was it was a good team effort, I think, with
the exception of Ferguson, he had he had a not
so good game. Obviously, Yeah, it is what it is.
You're going to have that from time to time. But
to me, it just feels like this team kind of
gets the concept of we as a team are strong
enough to beat anybody. We've got nine outs or we
got nine innings, to go out there and prove that

(10:30):
we're better than they are on offense, defense, pitching, the
whole the whole gamut.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
And yesterday they did exactly that.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, and that first game you have two guys getting
all six of your hits in the game.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
And then in the.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Second game, which was the vict which was the victory
at home, you had more contribution. Still only scored three runs,
but there were more guys chipping in. And then last night,
really the bottom of your order carried you. And I'll
include Suarez, the six hitter in the bottom of the
order in this upcoming stat because it makes the stat
look better. But you at you know, three times through

(11:02):
the lineup last night, when you built your six, six
to one lead heading into the latter innings, you add
your six through nine hitters, seven of twelve on base,
four of nine actually hitting the baseball, so four to
forty four, batting average well over five hundred on base,

(11:22):
two home runs, three runs batted in, and had scored
all five runs in the game. That's six, seven, eight,
and nine. They ended up adding another run scored later
and another RBI from JP Crawford later. But that's some
I must have said it eleven times on three different
shows yesterday as one a host and then two times
as a guess that I was anticipating not just some contributions,

(11:44):
but some damage from the bottom of the lineup, and
it pretty much carried the day yesterday for this team.
And that's a phenomenal sign.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Four.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
As you mentioned a team that has had difficulty with
the bottom part of its order, we've I've never really
felt in the last four or five years that the
bottom part of our order is is something that you
can rely upon. This is how this team is built.
This team has depth one through nine for the first
time I think in the Jerry Depoto era, and you

(12:16):
can win with this lineup now, and it doesn't just
have to be a pitcher shutting down the opponent, mowing
down the opponent, even holding them to one run like
Logan did last night.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
They can win a high scoring game as well.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
And that's what I think ultimately makes the twenty twenty
five Mariners so much more dangerous than past examples.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah, and the idea of them being able to jump
out to a lead, like I said, is a nice
luxury for the starting pitchers to have. And I just
think the beauty of being able to not I mean,
we've talked about the inadequacies of the offense, and I've
always thought that a big part of why that happens
is when you're not winning ball games and you're not

(12:57):
scoring runs as a hitter, you automatically like, well, I
can carry it, you know, hop on my back, guys,
I got Well, that's too much pressure. I don't want
anybody going up there thinking I have to carry the
team offensively. I don't care if you have sixty one homers.
You don't go up there thinking I have to do
this for the team. Now, if it comes down to
late in the game, is tied up, yeah, you should

(13:18):
want to be the guy that'll come through and be
the hero. But you know, you interviewed Polonco down in
the clubhouse yesterday and he ended up saying, it's that's
the nice thing is that anybody can step up and
be the hero in any given day. And yesterday was
a prime example of a bunch of different people having
moments of heroism. I mean, he ended up having a
game where Flairy was kind of mowing guys down. He

(13:42):
went right through the lineup in the first inning. He
ends up in the second inning battling and having a walk.
And it wasn't necessarily this long eleven pitch ab it
was he swung out of the zone a couple of times,
and then he tightened it up and he didn't swing
it any more pitches out of the zone, and he
didn't throw many pitches in the zone. That's just a win,
and it's a small win, but it's kind of a
death by a thousand cuts. He does that, then all

(14:04):
of a sudden, you end up getting the good ab
by Robus, like I said, to kind of start that
inning and off, and then JP dumps that that single
in their boom. You get on the board, and then
it just kind of everything just felt good. Next time,
all of a sudden, Sworez comes out comes up hits
that home run, keeps extending the lead. It just was
one thing after another. Cow comes through, a lot of
people think he's kind of an all or nothing. Not

(14:25):
v he's hitting two forty five or whatever, the two
out RBI knock there to extend the lead, all of those,
it was just one after another kind of just keep
tacking on, tacking on runs and then just start chipping
away at the outs that they have remaining. It was
a really well played game for the most part. And again,
I think it just is one of those if you
go out and just do your job, you don't have
to do something special, Just go do your job, have

(14:47):
tough abs, have a good approach, and then play some
good defense. You're gonna find you're gonna be the better
team more often than not because you're designed well offensively
and pitching staff for works.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, and we're gonna hear from Matt Brash a little
bit later on in the show, But there was this
moment last night, and it was when he pitched, and
it wasn't your typical Brash inning.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
I mean, he three weak ground balls, no strikeouts. What's
wrong with you, Matt?

Speaker 5 (15:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, but three up, three down, And that was the
bottom of the seventh and I, you know, on social media,
it's getting ready to just tweet out, like, man, it
just got early quiet. And as I'm tweeting it out,
I look up and like Tiger fans are just leaving,
just you know, by the droves. They're just they are
leaving the ballyard. At that point, it was almost like

(15:36):
a confession of we're not as good as this team.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
There was almost that city wide confession of yeah, I'm
glad we're here supporting our team. We got a pretty
good team, but we don't have that team because and
the game was a little bit lopsided at that point,
and they did try to fight back in the ninth inning.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
They showed some fight, but they're there.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
It was kind of symbolic for me and we're certainly
not on this show, not in the clubhouse, like putting
the feet up on the desk. I mean, it's playoff
time and getting that last win is going to be
a challenge in this series to advance. But there was
it really was kind of this moment of looking up, thinking, man,
this place got really quiet, like oh no, no, no, no, no,

(16:17):
they're not quiet.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
They're gone. They are leaving the building after, you know, paying.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Such an amount of money to watch this game with
two at bats to go, and they're convinced that this
series is over.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
That's how I read that.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, well, I mean it's so you're up for Zip
and then they have that inning, was it? In the
fifth inning where hit by pitch, then a guy gets
second sacrifice, bunt him over and then you end up
getting that double playball that really they end up getting
the guy out, but neither kind of catches it in
the palm and when he goes to the ground, it

(16:54):
pops out of his glove, and so they get a
run out of it. That breathes a little life into
the Tigers. Okay, we're on the board. It's forty one.
That feels like a ballgame right there. The next inning
to first two guys get out and JP goes Yachtzi.
It's one of the man right when we start chipping
away at this lead, they just erase what we just
had done. That to me was and then Brash comes

(17:16):
in after that, I think, or maybe it was Bizarro.
After that inning but it was I think it was
bizarre to that inning and then brash the next.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
No, it was brash first.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
Oh, it was brash first. Okay, so it was.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
It just ends up being one of those man, these
guys like even when we start to feel like we
maybe are gonna see some momentum, they end up kind
of snipering the momentum back. That's what it felt like yesterday,
just we answered anything that they came at us with.
And that's that's how you end up winning the ball game.
You you make your twenty seven outs worth more than theirs.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Yeah, that's how you end up winning the series, winning advance.
And so one more to go, one more a game
here in Detroit here tonight. Uh, there is a game
five scheduled for Friday back home, and as fun as
that would be, as electrifying as that atmosphere might be,
I want to avoid it.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
I would like to.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Fly home Thursday after our show here in Detroit to
celebrate with our feet up on the desk at that point.
That that's that's how you know. I know Ashley's got
tickets to the game on Friday.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
I don't go, don't go. Yeah, I'm really happy if
you don't go.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yeah, yeah, exactly if we if that, if I don't
get to go, because it means.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
We want it in four I'm good.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I mean and then we'll get you
to an American League Championships.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
All right, perfect, Yeah, sounds great. I'd rather go to that.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
If you want to go out with five iron to
an ALCS game, we'll pay for it.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (18:38):
And two?

Speaker 2 (18:41):
All right, let's find out what's on tap for today's
Wednesday edition of Chuck and Buck.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
What's on tip?

Speaker 5 (18:52):
What's on tap? All right?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Mariners win a four over the Tigers take a two
to one series lead in this best of five divisional round,
and men Tink's been joining us all year long at
eight thirty on Wednesdays. She will certainly do it today.
So that's coming your way. Miller versus Mize. That is
the pitching matchup. So Bryce Miller will get the game
four start. Casey Miz, former number one overall pick in

(19:15):
the draft, will end up pitching for the Detroit Tigers
with their season on the line.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
That is a noon.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Start back home, three o'clock start out here in Detroit.
Matt Brash, we mentioned him a couple of times this morning.
I did catch up with him in the clubhouse last
night after the game, had a really interesting conversation with him.
So we'll replay that for you at some point during
the show today, probably the nine o'clock hour, but I
don't know. I don't know when we're gonna play, but

(19:41):
you'll hear for Matt Brash today because I think it's
worth hearing some of the comments from him, So we'll
do that on the program.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yankees rallied from a six to one deficit.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
And this is where you know you can't take anything
for granted, because it looked at one point like the
New York Yankees were dead in the water against the
Toronto Blue Jays last night. They were trailing six to one,
and damn if they didn't come all the way back
and win that thing nine to six. So their season
remains alive and they will play game number four tonight
at four o'clock there at Yankee Stadium. National League also

(20:15):
in action today, So you got four games today in
the Divisional round of the playoffs. You got the Brewers
at the Cubs at two pm. You've got the Phillies
at the Dodgers at six pm. Phillies and Cubs trailing
two in that series. It's hump day, so we turned
the page on the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
and start really isolating on the next game, and that's

(20:38):
the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville this Sunday.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
We will hear from Greg Bell today at seven oh five.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Husky's host Rutgers Friday Night, Cam Cleland drops by every Wednesday,
so we'll hear from the huss Former Husky tied end
at eight o'clock this morning. NHL's Opening Night featured three games,
Florida over Chicago three two, Pittsburgh over the Rains three
to nothing, and Colorado won late last night four to
one over the Los Angeles Kings. Of course, we're focused

(21:07):
on the Krakens Opener, which will take place this Thursday
at home against Anaheim, and we will talk for the
first time officially this hockey season with our friend Al
Koniski today at nine thirty. But mostly today's show is
about the Mariners. We are broadcasting from Detroit thanks to
snow Qualmi Casino, Seattle's closest sportsbook. Coming up on the

(21:29):
other side, Mariners Morning After Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJRFM broadcasting from the luxurious studios here at iHeart Detroit.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
And we were in the.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Building yesterday to watch the Mariners take on the Detroit
Tigers game number three of the American League Divisional Series.
And the Mariners did show up one to nine last
night for the most part, and they took on the
Detroit Tigers and Jack Flaherty, who is not a bad pitcher,
and he's actually I mean you look at his individual numbers,

(22:02):
I mean, pretty high strikeout rate, pretty low walk rate,
doesn't allow a gaudy batting average against you know, has
has good stuff, has a good reputation for, you know,
being able to dominate games. But what Jack Flaherty, The
reason that he has such a high era with all

(22:23):
of those other good numbers is that usually when he
starts giving up hits, he gives them in bunches. And
so he was true to his character last night. The
Mariners scored twice in the third inning to take a
two to nothing lead, and then they tacked on two
more in the fourth to make it four to nothing,
including a Geno Suarez home run. There was a run

(22:45):
scored by Detroit then against Logan Gilbert finally in the
fifth and really a more accurate throw from JP Crawford
Logan Gilbert gets out of that inning with a double
play ball and the Mariners hold on to their four
nothing lead. So JP, apparently feeling rather guilty about it,
feeling great shame, decided to come up in the bottom

(23:06):
of excuse me, the top of the sixth inning and
rectify that mistake.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
He's going to go to Montero, but it's five to one.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Crawford sends a fly ball out towards right field.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
That one's way back, and God, JP Crawford right.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
On cue delivers.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Blast a home run and that answers the Tigers run
to make it five to one.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
JP Crawford, what a what a night for him?

Speaker 2 (23:37):
I mean, yeah, he made sort of the inaccurate throw there,
Bucky that costs him the double play. But he had
a walk, he had a sack fly, he had a
RBI single, and he had a home run in the contest,
and he launched that home run.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Yeah, and it was the answer after they had given
up the run, like you just said, I mean, they
end up kind of chipping away excuse me, in and
getting one run back and for him to come out there.
They get the first two guys out, and that was
a smooth swing. He hit that thing a long ways.
It just was kind of one of those once you
kind of knock him down, you don't want to let

(24:11):
him get back up off the mat. I mean, if
the Yankees game last night wasn't any sign of that
where you let that happen. Let a team, especially in
the postseason, start getting some momentum the way it started
to feel in the ninth inning with us, then you
all of a sudden, sometimes it can come back to
bite you. So I thought that was a great answer.
He had a bunch of he had a couple really

(24:32):
really good at bats, and really just kind of felt
like the entire team was just out there on a mission.
Let's go out there and I'll just do my job.
If I do my job and we do that collectively
as a team over them, we're gonna end up winning
this thing.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
They did.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
They went on to a that gave them the five
to one lead. They go on to an eight to
four victory in the game. Cal Rawley hits a two
run homer more on that coming up here in a
moment to make it eight to one. Caleb Ferguson did
cough off some of the lead, but Andre's Munno came
in to close it out for a final score of
eight to four, and the Mariners are up two games

(25:05):
to one in this best of five round of the
Major League Baseball Playoffs. So we caught up to cal
Raleigh in the clubhouse after the game, and Cal who
obviously did his job at the plate, knocked in three
runs last night, hit a home run, had a walk
sprinkled in there as well, But he also caught his
best friend last night, Logan Gilbert, who got the job done.

(25:27):
He went six strong innings, allowing just one run, and
if not for an inaccurate throw on a double playball,
he would have got out of there unscathed. So I
asked cal Raleigh about Logan's performance, going, maybe he wasn't
as sharp as he wants to be, but that Meadow
strikeout and then all of a sudden he got on
his game.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Is that accurate?

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yeah? No, he was.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
I thought he was good from you know, pitch one tonight.
You know, I guess that's good single hair there. But
you know, never going to be upset with somebody sacking
the hitters. So he did a great job and like
I said, made some made some really huge pitches when
he had too. So thoughts on having the advantage of
this series and day one game away from you know,
obviously you know happy without the one tonight, but you

(26:08):
know John's not finished yet. You know, we got you know,
we got tough for her to have us. Were in
a tough mentuon tomorrow and you know it's gonna be
a challenge and you know, we gotta we gotta brand tomorrow.
You know, we can't take a game off. So we're
we're ready and was you know, we're still hungry.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
So and VABEI and VABEI and vay Pey.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
It's nice hearing the fans. There was a little group
down there.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
I went down and took a snapped a photo of
them and recognized I saw Col's girlfriend was one of
them in the in that little group.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
I think she cheers for more than Mariners.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
She didn't have a Tiger jersey on, No, she had
the Mariner's gear on for sure. And I but like
I said, I think she just likes the Mariners and
Calvin a little bit, probably probably.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
A uh yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
And then he of course politely corrected me there in
typical Cal fashion, where I felt the part darker meadows
strikeout was like Gilbert's because he just blew was three
to two. It was at the end of the second inning,
and he just reared back and threw blew a fastball
right by him.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
And I'm like, that's that was Logan.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
There's a three hour rain delay, and and Logan sometimes
hasn't reacted to that well, to that stuff. And to me,
it felt like he was getting barreled up a little
bit the first two innings, like the Tigers had a
chance to a window there to score. And then after
that strikeout, I thought he hit another gear. So I
asked Cal about that, and Cal politely corrected me, Now

(27:32):
you're wrong about that.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
He was good from the start.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
Yeah, well that was that was a statement pitch. You're
not wrong to recognize it was a statement pitch because
he was like slider splitty like for five or six
pitches before that and then reared back and blew the
fastball by him to end the inning. Those are statements,
It's like not I mean, it's hard to explain, but
I mean, anybody that watches enough baseball you can it

(27:55):
not all outs are created the same. They're not all equal,
they don't all feel the same. You don't walk back
to the dugout after a strikeout feeling the same. If
a guy dices you up and hits corners and mixes
pitches and the umpire screws you on one, you walk
back and you're irritated because you got it out, but
you're also like, I didn't really have much of a
chance there. If you end up doing something, you set

(28:17):
somebody up and now all of a sudden, this guy's
having a pretty good ab but he ain't looking for this, and.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
Boom, you blow up by him.

Speaker 4 (28:22):
There is a different feel when you sit down in
the dugout and watch your offense go out there. There's
a different feel after that pitch. Then there is if
you ended up giving up a scorching line drive to
the gap that somebody ended up having to make a
diving play on. They are ultimately the same thing, but
they don't feel the same well.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
Game number four is tonight first chance to clinch for
the Mariners, and if not, they'll have a second opportunity
back at home on Friday, but they'll have to face
Trek schoolbl so I think you're all in on this
game tonight. I think you're treating it like a deciding game.
Bryce Miller is getting the start. I believe in Bryce Miller.
I believe in that sweat, I believe in that quiet

(29:01):
confidence that he takes to a mound, and so I'm
not worried about him getting the start, even though he
was clearly the number five starter on this team this
year and his only pitching here because Brian wu is injured.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
I still have some faith in Bryce Miller.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
But same at the same time, Bucky, you don't have
a very long leash here if I'm managing this team,
you get into any trouble whatsoever. I've got a bullpen that,
for the most part is rested and ready to go,
and so I'll go seven eight, seven innings if i
have to with my bullpen tonight. I'm gonna treat this
game precious. I'm gonna treat this game like it's practically

(29:41):
the game five here tonight and try to take out
the Tigers that way.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
Well, I mean, ultimately, the beauty of the difference between
postseason isn't just because the games meanmore. It's because the
built in days off in between travel, right, your two
games here and you get a day off to travel,
and in two games another day off. It allows you
the opportunity to kind of blow through bullpens because you're
gonna get a rest day, you're gonna get people back,

(30:07):
and ultimately, I mean, I think if Bryce Miller, I
trust that he can go out here and have a
good game, but he would be the guy with the
shortest leash that you just expect that they would pull
the plug on, not just because he hasn't had the
same year that he had last year, but because he
dealt with injuries and you're kind of like, hey, dude,
you haven't got to get into the flow and the
rhythm of the season the way that all these other

(30:28):
guys that went out there and had majority of the
season worth a start. So, yeah, I'm with you. I
don't think that there's any well, we got this, we
got a game lead, we're gonna go ahead and rest
our bullpen. No, it's it's all hands on deck and
you got tomorrow off, so might as well win this
one and have smell like Champagne on the flight back.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
A right as well? Casey gets the start for them
does sound like a delicious flight back.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yeah, noon start Seattle time, three o'clock out here in Detroit,
Miller versus Mize, the Tigers season on the line, the
Mariners obviously wanting to close it out later on today,
which is exactly what I want to do today. All right,
coming up next on the program. If you think cal
Raley's girlfriend likes cal Raley, if you think Ashley and

(31:13):
Bucky and I like cal Raley, if you even think
Little Dumber likes cal Raley, they ain't on.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
None of us that's got anything on.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
The next guy that we're going to talk about, the
biggest cal Rawley fan in the world might have shown
up last night and you won't believe what he did.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Sports Radio ninety three point three KHRFM. I think they
should good people. Yeah, yeah, you know what a catching genius.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
We got a catching genius cal Raley.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Yeah, well I was.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Softy asked me on the post game show, like the
difference between the Crows, and I'll say.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
I'll just say this.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
In Seattle, I don't remember Tiger fans' voices rising up
saying shy Young Shayung, sorry Young for Trek Scooble while
he was in town.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
But last night.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
You could hear several mvpach cants very clearly from the
Mariner fans that showed up at Kamerica last night.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
Yeah, there's a big group of them up the first
baseline kind of up there by behind the dugout a
little bit, and it was before. It's one thing you'll
see a group of fans that when something good starts happening,
they'll get a little bit rambunctious. You can start to
hear them. They actually kind of spurred it on. It
started after Robus with that double. When JP came up,

(32:25):
is when they got loud, and then there was a
little bit of a boo. There was one little they
started cheering JP JP Jay and the crowd was like boom.
They tried to drown them out.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
You stop that, you're not in geattle a cookie?

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Yeah yeah, but you know what, let me get you
some nachos.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
If you'll stop that, I'll buy you a beer. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
And yet, but then they didn't stop, and then there
was no more booing. There was just like, Okay, well
they deserved to cheer if they want, and they're having
a good night.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Don't you agree with thema.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
That's exactly what it felt like it was. It was
They're so nice, Detroit. I love you Detroit.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Well, obviously, all of Seattle loves cal Raley, there's no
question about that.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
You love cal Raley, I love cal Raley.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Ashley loves cal Raley.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Actually, daughter really love Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Yeah. I think his mom and dad seem to come
off like liking the guy. Yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Little brother really likes big brother. Oh boy, there's some
respect there.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
But I think maybe the biggest cal Rawley fan in
the world showed up last night in two layers of
cal Raley and made jerseys. And he's actually got connection
to Seattle, but he lives now in.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Was it Vegas? Yeah, in Las Vegas.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
His name is Jamison Turner. And he decided, you know
what I'm gonna go. I'm gonna get a ticket and
wherever I can get into the ballyard, I'm going to
Maybe I'll catch a home run, maybe I'll catch two
home runs. His name is Jamison Turner. He shows up,
he gets a ticket, it's in the left center field bleachers,

(34:02):
and sure enough, cal Rawley's home run lands right in
his lap. Yeah, he caught the home run ball from
cal Raley last night. Is pretty much the only reason
that he came. I wanted to see Cal and I
wanted to see if I could catch one of his
home runs, maybe even two, because he had number sixty

(34:23):
one jersey on the outside and then he had a
number sixty two Cal Raleigh jersey underneath that shirt. And
he ends up catching that ball like a I said
last night, like a flame to the moth.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
As opposed to him off to the flame.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
It was like a flame to the mof It just
directed opposite field. Yeah, left center field, Big Ballpark and
lands and Jamison Turner's lap. How in the world did
that ass?

Speaker 4 (34:51):
I mean, that's all the stars aligning apparently. Yeah, he's
from Longview, but then now lives in Vegas, and he
made the shirts to come to Seattle for the last series, thinking, okay,
sitting on sixty it'll be cool, got tickets in right
field because typically you think he might hit more homers
left handed, knowing the matchups who they're going to go
against with the Dodgers, and yet the cow didn't hit

(35:14):
a home run most certainly didn't hit a home run
to him, and so he's like, well, let me see
if I can get a ticket to all that he
could find was a front row behind the bullpen in
and in left field gets it and Cal goes apo
Taco bounces it.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
It bounces and.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
Just barely high enough for him to reach over the
wall and catch it.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
I mean it's we were on the way home last
night and I'm watching the video. I'm like, what, like what?
How does it gives me goosebumps? Because it seems almost
like paranormal?

Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yeah, like there was other worldly forces involved. Yeah, Dodd's aner.
Everybody knows that the ear of cow.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Yeah, it is the is the ear of col He's
supposed to be back again tonight, and I'm sure he'll
be treated like a celebrity. He'll probably be given the
chair that we didn't have last night in the press box.
So we'll both stand tonight. All right, Greg Bell's gonna
join us next at seven oh five plus your headlines.
