Speaker 1 (00:02):
Your own for Husky Football probably presents our weekly visit
with a voice of the Dogs, Cam Cleveland. Oh yeah,
let's go run to you by Warrior injury logs, battle Tested.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Now here's Chucking Bud.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
We're a former Husky tight end on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ RM.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Okay, Cleveland played football too. I thought he was just
like a slugging.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Baseball I think he ended up making a career of
is that right ball thing?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
You wandered over to?
Speaker 5 (00:33):
That?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Maybe not the maybe not the smartest decision because he
was really good at baseball. Is he really good at baseball?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
That's that's a better sport. That's how I knew him,
baseball player, Cam Cleveland, eight o'clock hour. Here it is
Chuck and Buck. We are live from Detroit, Michigan. That's right.
We are on the road for the American League Divisional Series.
We were here yesterday for yesterday's program and the post game.
We're here today. We'll be doing the post game too,
(01:00):
and then of course so we'll be here tomorrow morning
as well to recap what happened here in Games three
and four of the American League Divisional Series. We'll get
back to discussing it with Angie Mentink at eight thirty. Also,
Ryan Healy's joining us today and we still have the
abcs of the MS to get to. But joining us
every Wednesday, former Husky tied end and the current color
analysts of Husky's Football. Right here on the flagship of
(01:22):
Husky's Football Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, Cam
Cleveland is with us.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Good morning, sir, gentlemen. Early for you.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
And by the way, baseball's on our mind. I mean,
we want to talk football, but I mean baseball is
just on her mind. I mean, if it's not, he's
not a true sportsman right now, you just aren't. It's
just built into I was a little nervous bit my
nails a little bit in the Nighteeny's good to see
on that double play after JP bounced it and then
(01:52):
went yatzi on his next ab So I'm feeling good
of one more boys.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Just one more and more Yeah, yeah, win in advance,
that's what it's all about. Win in advance. At Did
you play baseball at U dub I mean, I know
we were joking about it at the top, but I
know you were a baseball player. Did you played at
U dub right.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
I played three years of baseball. Lawyer Milloy and I
were teammates who were the last two. I was a
first base and right fielder and doubled up. Played in
a practice once and then went out to spring and
then played in the second half of a double header
after practicing football. So it's was a little different. I
don't know where many people they can.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Do that now. I don't even know they let them
do that nowadays. It's very rare.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
But you were the first time.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Basically, yeah, pretty much, Yeah, exactly right. Some people compare
you to Dion and Bow I think more so.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Yeah, I mean, just big, big, redheaded gingers at first base.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I mean, come on, but you know what I'm talking about, right,
you know, I'm talking.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
A scrap hitter. You wanting to take it the other way,
you know.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Scrap with the best of them. Dude, don't throw me
an outside pitch. It's gone, see you don't, I mean,
don't hang it there, it's not happens.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
And all right, so you were going yard apohol. You
were just trying to slap it through the forehole, right, No.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
It the whole all all fields.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
My friends still had the little league home run record
back in my hometown, all Field, All Fields.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
That's because you got to go to you when you
were ten.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, that's not fair.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
I was a five to eleven hundred and sixty five
pounds twelve year old.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
That's me, make a sense exactly.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I wasn't too far off by the way. Of course
you kept growing I didn't. Yeah, yeah, Oh, you're the
early kid.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Oh you're early kid with armpit hair, and everyone's going
with kids. He's scary. Yeah, I know what you mean.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, and nobody and my dad wasn't bright enough to
figure out that. That's why I was dominating. Yeah, so
we didn't work as hard as we should have at
twelve years old with a beard.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
But anyway, my last tip, you want the secret to
be in a great hitter, play wiflet ball kids. It's
all we did with ale ball. That's why it makes
you be a great hitter. Don't sit in the cage
and hit it. Play with football. See all right, let's
go to football.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I'm with you, Let's go to football. Where were you
third quarter? Where was your mind at watching the Huskies? Uh,
looking like they were on the road to winning by
double digit points. Uh or losing by double digit points
to the Maryland Terrapins. So where were where was your
head at as you were describing the action Saturday third
(04:28):
quarter trailing.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Well, I was as as I'm watching the game, I'm going, Okay,
we're at six quarters without scoring a touchdown, six straight quarters.
Now we're heading into seven straight quarters without scoring a touchdown,
And I'm watching demand and I'm waiting for him to
get that that moment or that throw or a play
that changed his whole brain, or or there was a
jump start to something, waiting for it to be able
(04:52):
to see. Because I take I take this as well.
What I believe in is that you are who you are,
You're the full identity is how you play football on
the road, it really is, because you're out of your
comfort zone and things needed to adjust, and you had
a great game at Washington State, but this was a
real road trip. And then all of a sudden, he
(05:13):
made and I posted it on my ex But he
made a throw to Winesbright on a third down conversion,
and you heard when we talked to coach Fish at
the end of the game, he mentioned how it felt
like DeMont had a little bit of nervousness after that
first interception early on the first drive, and the throws
(05:33):
were tentative, they were off to Denzel, they didn't stay
in bounds, and the.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Defense was holding in.
Speaker 5 (05:39):
I mean, I know, you're giving up a few points,
but they're not scoring touchdown touch They're not up at
that point. But yeah, they're up twenty to enough and
you're going, where's that first throw that gets the elevation?
And then suddenly it was there, and I want to
tell you a light bulb moment happened.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
He stopped trying to be a.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Pocket guy and got out of there, changed it with
his feet. I don't know if it was uncertain. I'm
not going to question on how the play calls. That's
not my job. All I wanted to.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Do was see a kid play with confidence.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
And everybody feeds off number two. That entire program feeds
off number two. And he changed the whole rhythm of
the football game.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah, I mean, but obviously down twenty zip. You know,
after that first touchdown in the third.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Was was one.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I was getting ready to go into the Mariner game
and I'm watching it at a bar, and I think everybody,
Husky fans say what is going on here. The field
goal didn't necessarily make I think most people feel better,
but that first touchdown in the fourth quarter, all of
a sudden, twenty ten, You're like, okay, just keep this up. Defense,
start doing what they are, continue doing what they have
been doing and getting three and outs and everything was
(06:49):
going to go. So why was it, do you think?
I mean, I know you don't want to get into
questioning play calls, but why was it? Did he look
like he was just trying to not run Like there's
been times I thought he maybe shouldn't run as much
as self preservation wise. But you can't be, you know,
losing twenty the zip and then think I'm gonna just
keep doing this pocket passer thing and neglect or just
kind of turn a blind eye to how well he
(07:11):
can run the ball.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
I think there is a little bit of and this
is fair, Okay, this is just in my opinion, but
I think there's a little bit of demand. You have talent,
You got to get them the football. You don't have
to do everything on your own mindset sometimes. But you
have Jonah Coleman, you have great wide receivers, you have
two young freshmen, and you found a way to throw
(07:33):
an absolute dart on the on the move getting out
of the pocket. By the way, when we say out
in the pocket, I don't want everyone to sit there
and expect a five to ten kid to be an
elite pocket passer. Okay, that's visual. Let's let's just state
the obvious. It is very difficult to see in the
pocket at that height. You have to slide and find lanes.
(07:55):
I'm not saying it can't be done. Doug flute Okay,
it's an unfair comparison to save Doug Flutie. But when
we think about great quarterbacks, n is a real thing.
Your linemen are six', seven six,' five, six three. Six'
five it's it's. A real issue and so that means
you have to be more creative.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
In the pocket, you get.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Four and then HE has like i talked about, last
week's slides but when he got when, he felt comfortable he, was,
Out one two i'm.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Out of here he.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Was holding prior and then when they do, locket on
him That means coach. Fish calls action that. Gets him
outside he.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Can see and he can.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Make a decision and the terrifying thing is that he is,
so dang fast nobody, can catch him and he moves.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
IT like that I would.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Expect he's been hit a, lot on film and the, Coaches,
have said DeMont you can't get. Hit like that you
have to hold in there and trust that your guys
are going. To get open we're in the midst of
seeing a young man figure out those idiosyncrasies in, a
football game to be able to make those decisions during a, Game,
(09:06):
and go OKAY when?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Do i GO when?
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Do, i not well thank god she decided to go
because There wasn't anything maryland could do. To stop it
and then shout out to the defense with back to back,
three AND outs and i think you saw, it the,
way coach face, get a stop, get a score, get
a stop. Get a score that's really. What it was
and then suddenly here we are more twenty four to
twenty and you're going you're riding home on that. PLANE going,
wow i mean what a feeling it was to even
(09:29):
get out of that.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Game, like That right cam pleland is with us a
segment with us every week, at this time brought To
You By Warrior Injury. LAW battle tested i was going
to dive right into that VERY topic, because i mean
you ended up playing a lot of. Years of football
you ended up eating at the adult table in the
football world, for several years but you certainly remember your
(09:53):
college days being an eighteen to twenty. Three year old
and what kind of an impact does a game like
this have to, not, only realize yes we can win
on the Road in, the big ten we can cross,
three time zones but to come out of that game
where it looked almost certain that you were going to
(10:14):
lose and then you pull it out. On the end
just talk about the difference that that can have on
a young football team that's trying to, convince, itself that
hey we are better than. We actually are the difference
Between fly and home winning That Game and flying home.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Losing that game emotionally in those that you don't realize
that anybody that there's so much emotion and motivation and
belief and psychological things that happen in. A football game
just look What happened to maryland in. The fourth quarter
you don't believe in the big mo, which is momentum
that is that's. A real thing it. Happens in sports
(10:50):
talk about guys and find the, zone or whatever belief
that you can.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Win a game if, you don't believe, you've seen sidelines
look GET. Fans the x PLEASE.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Stroll through x in the in the third quarter and,
watch the moronic unemotional psychosis Of.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Fan based it.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Sucks fire everybody and then, as a player you're watching
it out there, the whole.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Time you're going what do we? Have?
Speaker 6 (11:19):
To? Do this?
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Home is it they're okay that belief that you can
beat somebody. In THAT moment because i believe this and
this isn't. Me talking right i'm. FIFTY years old i
don't care as much what people think, about ME anymore
but i believe the brain. Works one way if you,
have negative thoughts your brain is gonna constantly. Think about
it but if, you stay positive Like what, coach fish
(11:41):
said believe in, his halftime speech your brain doesn't know
the difference between a positive and. A negative thought. Be
that way that is something that you're trained to be.
As an athlete i'm not saying that, it's just athletes
but this is the way you. Have to think but
you actually have an outcome where you come back and.
Win that game and now when you're in those moments
(12:02):
again and you believe that and you've. Been, their experience
okay anybody that's a former athlete or anybody that's had
experienced you, lean on, that go hey what did? We,
do here well if you don't have those wins you,
know have that you can't. Lean on it now you
have one of those games that, you go back what?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Did we do how did?
Speaker 5 (12:20):
We change it it's an immediate, advantage to everyone and
that's that's how you.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Crede a culture.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
And it seems like to Me that coach fish found
that answer with this group and that was A moment
for demond and the rest of the team and all
those leaders out there is very.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Happy, for, HIM.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Yeah yeah i mean the tale of two, different halves
Obviously and yet i'm wondering where you land now after
a twenty four point second half and after however many
quarters that was of not Scoring a, touchdown before that
there was a lot of talk after a few games
against not, high opponents obviously just like everybody else in
(12:57):
the country that kind of has a, warm up schedule
where are you at as far as how. THIS offense,
Is I mean demon williams is still. A Special player
jonah coleman's a, Great Running back denzel boston and a
couple other guys are starting to emerge even besides him
as far. As RECEIVERS go, but i mean where are
you landing now as to what you really think this?
Offense is versus maybe what the narrative was after a
(13:21):
potent offense the, First, few.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Weeks well the beginning was it was a.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Lot of, Run you know jonah's got eleven touchdowns and
it was we ran the.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Football score in Every.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Drive in ohio state showed us a few things and
they had to, make some adjustments and then certainly went
on The road and maryland showed you. A few things
i mean their Freshman Quarterback and league, washington was excellent
big huge part. Through, the ball well they had a
tight end. That was awesome but you're looking at, this,
identity going okay what? Is this team and Now, you
Lose Carver potentially john mills goes down.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
With an ankle.
Speaker 6 (13:57):
You.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Have, to adjust yeah whatever this team finds that works,
Well TO me and i say this over, and over
again is the engine to this team is. The offensive
line and then You have demand williams changes with.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
His physical Ability.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
But having jonah and WATCHING watching the i mean both
these Young Wide receivers dez roebuck who comes, out of
nowhere not essentially. But a Freshman you Got raydon fines
bright And Then here's vandel boston going. Down the field
that that his size and some. Of the throws you.
(14:33):
Have great weapons now you. Gotta stay healthy the best
availability is our invest ability. Is always availability, and, you're
hoping guys and hopefully you're.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Gonna get to carrio. Back this week.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
We, don't know eventually it'll be probably a. Game Time
decision but. Rutgers comes in they can score a. Lot
of points calakvanis is, A Big quarterback ry raymonds got
he's got nine touchdowns. On the ground so they're not
they're not we and another team comes Off of buy
so you got to come off this emotional high really.
Quick and go we're on, a, short week man we
(15:06):
got to Prepare for a friday game and they're Making
a long. East coast trip you got to put the
hammer down on this because anyhow go on the Road
again to.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Michigan next week so it's not. Getting, Any easier boys.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Let's talk about just, first of all in our closing,
couple of minutes You don't like. Friday NIGHT football, if
i remember you, Don't like That.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
I'm not no i'm. Not a fan i'll be. HONEST with,
you i mean. It's the schedule it's. For high school
friday is for high school.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Football in the Fall and. MAJOR league, baseball i mean.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
We don't Want to, see friday's game but YOU know,
what i mean but high school football in The, Fall
is friday that's.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
What.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
It's for yeah and then, THE other, thing i mean
you look at This opponent On, FRIDAY and, rutgers i
mean they've just built their reputation on being a team
that can run the football. And can't throw and even
though they're running the ball still more frequently than they. Throw,
the ball. Uh the effectiveness they're completely more effective now
(16:06):
as a passing team than they are, a running team
or at least they have been so.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Far.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
This season uh it's sort, of a stark dramatic change
to what you typically prepare for When you face rutgers in.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
The.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Modern day yeah AND then they i watched them, last
year too and that. Game was you That was coach fish's,
first pro game and it just flowered how they're going
to see a, team. Come BACK too So i am.
I'M quite curious. I don't think i don't think you
(16:37):
deviate off of what it is to try to load
up and. Stop the run the difference Was is that
maryland didn't run. It as well they had some, good
outside zones but they really wanted to get down the
take advantage of their athletes. ON the edge i DON'T
know When, I see rutgers they're not going to change,
who they are no doubt they're. Going to change if
you're going to make a, team one dimensional then.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
You have to adjust and be more physical upfront. With
The Defense and jake. MONO was, awesome i mean.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Here's a kid that talk about Stepping in for budhau and,
you're not upgrading but it is dam. Impressive at linebacker
and if You get to carrio. Back then okay alex
McLoughlin is the number One Safety And pro football focus
grading out wise and tackle. Ability and space that is
that young kid big getting shout Out To.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Long hair ginger.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
He's the dude and so your defense is getting better
and your d line. Is getting better that To me
is i'm noticing a big difference with How well coach
walter is getting this defense to really Fit and control
nolling in. The run game but they're being a little
more aggressive with their. Blitz package, too.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
All, Right All right so mariners close it out?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Tonight? Or, what hell yeah they.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
CLOSE it out i don't want to see Him back
in seattle until WE'RE. In, the, alc yes sorry we're.
Not doing that close, it out tonight, get it done.
LET'S go right.

training camp you do, these different things and like, people,
are like there that's what we. Need to do we've.
NEVER done that i don't think ever's.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
A great idea never.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
HAPPENED person, there, i, think yeah yeah well, maybe next round.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
Maybe next round how's how's the how's? The feeling there?
Do they feel is? It is tense? Are the tight.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
We led the, show with that a Little brief CONVERSATION.
Bucky and, i to me it's like. THE perfect approach
i mean there was some celebrating that we media types
heard from outside the door waiting for them to, open
THE clubhouse so i think you, do celebrate that and
then once, you got inside there was just this feeling
of we've got, work to do, we know that and
(20:49):
we're all about. Business right now we're standing on. BUSINESS
right now i think they have the exact perfect. Attitude
RIGHT now and i don't know if you since that
during the course of the year that they would that's
that when the.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
TIME mattered most i think it's crazy the impact that
the last two years have had. On this team just
to be. On the, OUTSIDE look again i think it
has had a profound impact. On THIS team and i don't,
think right, now you know this team will allow itself, to,
(21:21):
be deterred like it won't allow themselves at any POINT
to really, i, mean celebrate yes but they. WON'T let
up i think that this team is so incredibly focused, And,
they're like okay, onto the next, onto the next, Onto
the next and they've done an incredible job of.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
That, this season yeah and how are You feeling about
brice going out here? First postseason, start you know the
idea of him coming out probably going to have a
short leash just simply because you're wanting to wrap this
thing up in four and not necessarily Have to Face schooble.
In game five and yet he seems, like a cool
calm collected character that could possibly handle his first postseason
(22:01):
start with uh with some. Calmness.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
To, him yeah yeah he's got such a, good Heartbeatfore
THIS and i'm i think he's had to, overcome you
know a lot this year and and in some ways
and at, times this year he was almost sort of
like bewildered by. ALL of it I feel like i
think he was surprise with what was happening and and
(22:25):
like it's just frustrated and confused, a little bit you know.
About THE arm but, i feel, like you know you
look at his. LAST few, starts i mean he's in a.
Really good, place you know he. HAS been effective i think,
that you know he isn't a guy you know that
that is that, is quite there you know this season yet,
(22:47):
with you know just. Complete shutdown stuff but he has
he has, the right temperament he has. The RIGHT attitude,
SO i mean i think he goes out there and he,
absolutely you know gives you an opportunity. To win tonight and,
as you, mentioned you know that's what they. Want to
do they don't want to they don't want this to
go to. A game five as much as they'd love,
(23:09):
to win it win it in Front of, the seattle
fans they'd like to take care of business Right.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
There, In detroit yeah bucky was just telling Me about
a softy Tweet that the today marks the thirtieth anniversary,
of the double the last time that They Clinched an american.
League divisional, SERIES of course i Was three and bucky was,
not YET born and i think that was the night
that your parents they celebrated the double, by you Know
(23:36):
conceiving of ANGIE if, if I remember if i'm doing, the, math,
right yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
But, at twenty.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Nine that's right but a nice way to celebrate the
thirtieth anniversary of the double is By Winning The American
league divisional series in. Twenty twenty five when you.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Say it would, be, absolutely, INCREDIBLE yeah no i think
you guys are there and that. That's really cool but
just seeing the city here and being here and realizing
just kind of what. What this means, and you know
we've talked about the impact of the team and how,
focused they are and it really makes you realize just
(24:14):
how how in one way starved. This city is But
also and i've said this for, twenty four years that
just like how much this, city you, Know they're there.
They're always, there you know there's some places that you
win and they just. Don't Show up like mariner fans
(24:37):
you know want, this so, badly you know so, ready
for this and they're they are really it is an.
Incredible fan base it really Is. Here, IN seattle, yeah
i mean, they're always there, they never, left, YOU know.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Yeah i and and yet the starved for it also
kind of creates, a sense, of you know when you're
one game, away from this but it still doesn't you.
Can't breathe easy it's not like you couldn't lose two
games in a row and find yourself out. Of this
thing and yet are you getting the sense that there's
a feel like there's just something? SPECIAL going, on i
mean if there wasn't something with col hitting that home
(25:14):
run to the guy That's actually from longview with the sixty,
one shirt on it bounces, in the bullpen barely up
high enough for him, to get it it just seems
like the. Stars are aligning are you getting a feel
that there's something special going on that's kind of maybe
just the universe speaking that this could?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Be the year.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
You can't help us, feel, THAT way, Right i mean
and that was, just absolutely incredible so funny that he
had sixty two, on underneath that the, sixty one, shirts
you know jump, sixty one here, whips it off dump.
Sixty two here but what in the scene of that
of just, a you know Complete you know tiger fans
(25:56):
and this one, little light, blue you, know shining light
a little Beacon for cal rawly, to hit this to
bounce up and. Then catch it and he also. CAUGHT it,
too i, mean you know you got to make the
play when when the ball, comes to you. And he,
did but. YEAH it, does i mean this year. Just
(26:16):
feels special i've, used the, words you know way, too many, times,
you know magical but it just, it's so appropriate just
time and time, again this season and so much of,
that magical season, by the, way you know has has
been at the Bat of cal rawley and when, WHAT he's,
(26:36):
done i mean he's just created that magic over and
over and over. Again this, season but yeah you. Get
that feeling, and, especially hey listen You know what marner
fans deserve this after everything that they've been through and
had their hearts ripped out over and over. And over,
again you know they certainly deserve a little bit of magic.
In their.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Lives, all right well the, networks took, over of course,
the television coverage and so you've missed out on being able.
To Do this so i'm going to be able to do.
It for You we've got Mariners Color analysts andi mintique
on with us here This morning On chuck and buck
and so as you get ready for game number four
here in just a couple. Of short hours what's the
key to the game Today? For the Mariners color analyst
(27:19):
AJI min tink.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
I didn't like i mentioned something about THE Importance of
jp crawford the last, time WE chatted.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
And i mean a little, off balanced throw but at
the plate.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
He, was, OUTSTANDING yeah well i mean he at this point,
in the season everybody is sort of being held together,
with DUCT tape AND i and i THINK you know jp.
IS as well i, think you, know you know he's
been grinding behind the scenes a, lot to, to you
know to. Make things, work. You know, defensively you know
(27:54):
at this point, in the season you you're shortstop, your arms,
basically you know, hang it off it's just and you know.
It's hold on so he's been he's been grinding. Out
there defensively but when this this team does that, one through,
nine you know just just. DO your job i think
that the bottom of this order is just so incredibly
(28:16):
important because the top of the order. Is SO strong
SO i do i think that's a winning formula and
then it's gonna. BE somebody, else i mean we Were.
Talking about planca we couldn't shut up about the game
he had. The other night it is gonna be a different.
Guy every night that is the beauty. Of this team
and that's the beauty and the length of this lineup
is you might be able to shut, down two guys
(28:36):
you're not gonna be able to shut. It all down, so,
you know somebody somebody's. Gonna come through and uh and
And that's and i'm Thrilled To see josh naylor back
in the lineup to, congratulations To him and i'm excited
for him to sort of, just you know put that
a little bit of the side next the next chapter
coming up for him, in his life but be able
(28:58):
to focus. BACK on baseball i tweeted.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
This last night i'm Not Sure if josh naylor's belt
was from outer space or if it. Was actual space
and he just wears it around like O'rion's belt And
men in black like it actually is outer space and
it just fits Snugly around.
Speaker 6 (29:21):
His papa waist he's. Got the drip he is for
sure is bringing his style off the field, onto the
field no. Doubt about, that all.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Right great to, hear from you great. Stuff this morning
enjoy it today and we'll catch up. With you, later
all right, you got, It All, right angie mintink the

Speaker 3 (30:23):

Speaker 2 (30:25):
We did it.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Every single day reached.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Out to, me he said. It's very important.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
It's frowned upon there's been a couple of times, You,
were GONE ashley and i. Didn't, Do it oh all, of,
a sudden nowhere lightning. Around my, home, i'm, LIKE sorry
father i HAVE sinned and i will not do the.
ABC's ever again.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
So and on behalf, of everybody listening f you.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
For, Doing that.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Yeah i'm, sorry all right let's get to the letters.
Of the alphabet we left off of the letter and
and and has To be. For naylor today do you
remember that Scene in The game of Thrones when the
taiwan Landister Was taking, edward stark's, sword, his magnificent gigantic
(31:08):
too large for, one man's sword and then he had
it melted down and then forged, into two swords one
that He gave to jamie and then one he gave. To,
his grandson yes you can't. Remember that SCENE that's How I,
pictured josh, naylor, you know yeah like either having master
craftsman or maybe he. Did it, himself you know he's
(31:29):
got the welders mask on, and everything else and he's
forging his own steel and he got some sort of
some sort of element, from outer, space you know it
wasn't even something that you. Can find here and that's
how he forged his belt to welcome newborn baby. Into
the world he just had that behind the scenes made
for the, right immediate moment and it was baby blue,
(31:52):
for the boy and it was made of some sort
of extraterrestrial plutonium that he. Had around there it didn't
help him play better, baseball last night but it did
sort of introduce his new child into the world without having.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
To, say, anything okay, well you know you might. Be
onto something we kind of knew going into this series
that his wife, was was due she was getting close to,
give him birth and so we were. Worried about it
yet he was in the lineup and, in the lineup
and then when they said he just didn't travel, with
the team but they didn't go any further with THE
particulars because i think he's a. Little bit private he
(32:30):
wants to keep his, private life private a lot. Of,
it private yeah it sounds, Like and so but maybe
it wasn't just, that he, was you know wanting privacy.
About this matter maybe he didn't fly with The team
to detroit because he flew to a different planet.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
To, get forget.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
YEAH that's possible i will say this real. QUICK about,
him I mean when i while you were down in
the clubhouse getting some awesome interviews, post GAME yesterday and
i Was on With Softie and dick softie ended up bringing.
Up some stats it's about how few pitches he's seen.
In THIS series and i was kind of Expecting that
(33:07):
because i'd seen him put a tweet, out about IT
and so i had went. Back and looked his swing.
DECISIONS are good i mean the first couple games there
was a couple of times he was swinging out, of
the zone which is. Uncharacteristic to him but the WHOLE
point is i don't want him going up there and
trying to walk or work. A pitch count if the
guy throws good pitchers pitches when you have two strikes
(33:27):
and you spoil him like he DID that one ab
that he ends up flying out in a ball that
probably would have left half or a third of The
Yards In. Major league baseball that WAS. A great ab
and if you look at, the other ones whether it's
first pitch, or second pitch he swung at pitches that
you want him, to swing at he will hit those
hard more. Often than not he's just. Missing right now
he's either just popping it up or rolling over for.
(33:48):
A ground ball HE'S doing what i want. Him to
do it's just not turning into the. Outcomes WE want
but i don't want him up there trying To Be
another mitch garver and trying to.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
Get a walk he's over thirteen. In the series that.
Speaks for itself he also made a very crucial air
defensively in. Game Number Two so josh nayler's not played well.
In THIS series but i think that's actually. An Encouraging,
thing Number one the mariners have taken two. Out of
three they've played better every single game so far, in
(34:16):
this series and they've done it without one of their
more reliable pieces. To this point and maybe his, head
is elsewhere. But you're right he had a line, out
to right he had a flyball to deep right center.
Field last night those are indicators of veter at bats
because before that he was just hitting dribblers. And STRIKING
out So I think josh naylor is about ready To Return.
(34:38):
To josh naylor if it doesn't show up in time,
for this series. So be it but we're gonna need
him in the next round if we make it to,
the next round and maybe we're. Trending, Toward that finally oh.
IS for offline a lot of people wanted me to.
BRING this up a lot of people WERE talking about
jp had an outstanding game at the, plate last night
(34:59):
as good as anybody at the, Plate last night but
a lot of people seem worried about his inaccurate. Throwing
from shortstop and it's been a problem that's been going
on for about. A, Month now bucky i've never seen
a first basement have to work HARDER To save jp
crawford Throws Than what josh naylor's had to work in. This, last,
month so, ohways for offline are we worried At all? About,
(35:21):
JP's throwing.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
NO i'm, not, i mean ultimately that double play ball
is one that you're rushing, a little bit trying to
make sure you get it there in time to twist,
that double play and so. Whenever, you're rushed now if
he's making a bunch of bad throws on just, routine
GROUND balls then i. Would be worried and it's not
that he's doesn't every once, in a while but it
also IS something where i think that he feels Real
(35:44):
Confident that josh naylor's gonna pick it over there if
he doesn't make. A good throw so in terms of
like the one that ended up scoring their first, run
last night that double play that he's. Trying to turn
you want him to rush to make sure it gets
there in time for. The double play and if in
rushing it's not, a great throw you want to miss
an error on the side, of down right you throw
(36:04):
it over his head and. Into the dugout he's getting
an extra base and there's no chance if he has
a jump and come. Off The Base and josh nader's
not a, real TALL guy so i think it's One
of those I'll Bet you josh nator, said to him
if you're, in a rush throw it. In the dirt.
I'll pick it and that's so when, he's making mistakes
it's typically. In the dirt this one was kind of
offline and. In the dirt that's, why he fell and
(36:24):
when he, hit the ground it popped out.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Of his glove it just seems like it's happening more
often than it should for the shortstop of a team
trying To Win. The world series, But you know josh
pretty good over there, At first base so hopefully it
isn't something damaging as we proceed. In these, postseasons all right, Coming,
up next mariners do. Get the win we're gonna hear
(36:45):
from our brand new ANALYST. Here At Kjar Former mariner
ryan healey will be with us on. The Other side
sports radio ninety THREE point three kjrfm
