Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for the show, the best twelve minutes of
eight minutes of radio, brought to you by the rich
complex flavor of Pendleton Whiskey Weather.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
But please drink responsibly. Oh yes, it's like Friday and
at eight o'clock on Fridays. So we do this thing
where we recap the week and we set up the weekend.
We map out the eight top stories of the day.
(00:32):
Some people stop at like one or two. We go
like four hundred percent more than that. Wow, A pretty
big deal. Yeah, I hope people appreciate the effort.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, well I do. I definitely appreciate it. I don't
know if everybody does.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Actually, probably rats if they appreciate it. Right, Yeah, I good.
I think we all could use a pat on the
back today for would be nice stepping up and giving
people eight stories. I mean, we could have stopped at
six or seven. We could have. Yeah. All right, let's
get it started here on a football Friday, and we
will start with the Seahawks getting ready to take on
the Tennessee Titans this Sunday at ten am in Nashville, Tennessee. Now,
(01:13):
Gray Zabel actually showed up at practice yesterday and kind
of looked like he was going to be good to
go for Sunday. We still don't know that, but there
is a chance that Zabel, coming off of an injury
Sunday might not be able to go. We already know
we're down a Sundal and we already know Anthony Bradford
(01:34):
is our starting right guard and he continues to struggle
in that role. So Greg Bell talked about his key
to victory for this game, and it might have to
do with what's happened in the middle of the field.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Jeffrey Simmons can wreck the game by himself. The most
surprising thing I saw the week so far was Grey's
Abel on the practice field yesterday. He was looking like
he was fully participating in the part we were allowed
to watch. Abel, of course is pushing to play. That'll
be interesting whether they want to run him out there
or would they give him the weekend off. Christian Haynes
is on the spot because Jeffrey Simmons usually lines up
(02:12):
on the right side of the Titans defensive line, so
that would be the biggest matchup for Seattle to wreck
their day. Haynes is getting would get his first start.
He's been preparing up to now is if he's going
to start until he's able. Walked out on the practice
field yesterday. Jalhn Sindell is uninjured reserve as we know,
with Timmy starting at center and Anthony Bravers had his
(02:34):
problems at right guard. If I'm the Titans defense, that's
where my game plan is going right through those three guys.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Greg Bell with his key to the game, making sure
Jeffrey Simmons doesn't do what Jeffrey Simmons can do. Don't
let him wreck your crap. Yeah, exactly, thank you, crab tree.
The Hawks are a thirteen and a half point favorite.
They are supposed to blow this team out. As a
matter of fact, most analysts, Bucky Hugh, Greg they think
(03:02):
that it's laughable that they're only thirteen and a half
point favorites. That's how bad Tennessee is. Last in the
National Football League in points scored, last and rushing yards
third to last in passing yards. It's hard to be
that bad. Offensively, we're in the bottom three in both categories,
first in the league in sacks allowed, and now cam Ward,
who's been sacked forty one times playing without Calvin Ridley,
(03:25):
has no running game at his back has to go
against Mike McDonald's defense, and that side of the ball's
healthy right now. So it does look like a bit
of a mismatch.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, well, I mean that's a huge spread, right, I
mean two touchdowns. You're figuring you got to win by
two touchdowns to cover, and yet there's people betting it.
I mean, but they just give up a lot of
points and then they don't do a lot of points
scoring on their end. It seems so lopsided. Now, anything
can happen. I don't think, you know, I'm the last
one that's like, just show up in Tennessee and you
(03:56):
win this ball game. No, you try to throw your
jock on the field and think that's going to be enough,
you will find yourself in a dogfight against another professional team.
That's not where you want to be. I just think
you gotta go out there and just the pep pregame
pep talk is, let's let these guys know Quicken in
a hurry, how much better we are, and then they
will crumble. You will impose your will and you will
(04:16):
end up pulling away. But if you go out there
and just think you're gonna, you know, just show up
and it's gonna happen. No, there's still professional football players
on that other side.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
The variables don't really work in the Seahawks' favor. And
I don't mean for winning the game. I'm talking about
blowing a team out. I mean usually when you come
off a tough loss like that and you got to
go back on the road again, and your quarterback's coming
off the worst his worst game of the year, and
you've got bigger games in the future. I mean, some
(04:46):
people might call that a letdown game after either a
big win or a big loss like they suffered on Sunday.
I think the Rams would be facing a letdown game
potentially this Sunday. If they weren't playing on Sunday night
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. I think they
would be running at risk of a letdown performance. So
(05:07):
I do think that this game sort of trends variably
toward that, And yet the talent mismatch is such that, yes,
they should win by fourteen points or more, but you
gotta do it. You got to execute on Sunday, and
we'll find out with a ten am kickoff there from Nashville.
By way, Kenny Easley will be honored. A number forty
(05:29):
five sticker will be on every Seahawks helmet on Sunday.
And so I'll tell you this much, I want to
be here Monday for the breakdown. We better be talking
about a win. We'll say that much. Yeah. Now, all
of a sudden, you do start like what the f
is going on?
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Then I'd be angry. Yeah. Yeah. Last night, the Buffalo
Bills fans might be wondering what the heck is going on.
They can't seem to figure out whether they're good or not.
They took on a terrific defense that the Houston Texans
can put fourth week in and week out and manned.
The Texans blow up Josh Allen on Thursday Night Football.
(06:06):
So it's twenty four seconds to go.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
But now fourth and six, at the twenty two from
the shot gun, Allan will creep up to the line,
pointing out the defender. He pointed at alp Shire. Now
Beck's up left Hash here in motion behind the line.
Allan drops the throw, pressure comes off his back, put
throws heads.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Intercepting diving pick by Kaylen Pullock.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
The Texans take it over with the interception for Bullock
on fourth down and the best defense in the league
delivers in the biggest moment.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I guess we should draw us some conclusions there. Huh,
wez would one guess. So Texans do win over the
Buffalo Bills Thursday Night Football to improve to six and
five on the year twenty three to nineteen. Over the
now seven and four Buffalo Bills. The Texans, with Davis
Mills at quarterback, only a mass two hundred and sixty
one yards of time total offense, but Bucky the defense
collected seventy yards worth of sacks and forced three turnovers
(07:07):
during the course of the game. And Josh Allen was
just getting battered around. Big or not, athletic or not.
I mean even a moose doesn't want to get bounced
around that much.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah. Well, the Houston Texans defense is legit, especially that
front fours, front seven, the guys that they bring, and
so if they get to you, you're not going to
be feeling all that great the next day. And yet
they still ended up somehow finding a way to It
was kind of they ended up finding a way to
almost win that ballgame that fourth and twenty seven or whatever,
(07:38):
that lateral play. What you're like, Oh, they're for sure
going to get it done now. Then they get to
fourth and one and have a penalty. They just kind
of shot themselves in the foot. They did not play
up to their capabilities, and the Houston Texans made him
pay for it.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, Houston's defense is certainly the real deal. And I
should point out that Josh Allen injury again because it
turns out that it's not an injury. But I don't
know if I've ever been more convinced that a superstar
player was seriously injured as I was last night, to
the point where I did not want to see the
replay of the injury because I thought I was going
(08:12):
to see something Jayden Daniels like. And he's kicking. I mean,
grown six foot six inch man is kicking on the field,
somebody that takes hit after hit after a hit, and
as obviously tough as a coffin nail hard is a
coffin nail, and yet he was kicking his feet on
the field. I thought for sure we were looking at
(08:32):
one of the best, most entertaining athletes in all of
sports missing some considerable time with a gruesome injury, and
it ended up being nothing.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
That's when when he went down, I thought, oh, there
goes the Bill season. They're done because he's out. And
then yeah, I did the same thing.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
I watched.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
I put my hands up in front of my face
when they were going to show the replay, like to
watch through my fingers, like it was a scary movie. Yeah,
and then I was like, oh, I mean, oh, okay, so.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Sy okay, he separated his shoulder that but it's his
right shoulder.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Oh oh, he's.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Still gonna miss most of the didn't miss a play. Yeah,
nothing must have hit that many times. I mean, he
thought he was seriously hurt. You don't kick your legs
because of pain. You kick your legs in that situation
because you think something's terribly wrong.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Oh well, I thought it would be because it hurts
so bad that you're like, oh my gosh. And then
when he's all of a sudden, oh wait, I can
move it. Oh, I guess it's not. Maybe he thought
it was going to be Jayden Daniels, like he was
gonna look down and his hand was gonna be pointing
the wrong direction or something. But yeah, good, I'm good
for the NFL that it.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
There's been too many injuries too. Yeah. Well, Patrick malmes
In the indian Apple and the Chiefs will take on
the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. That's going to be the
early game to watch. Philadelphia Dallas is the afternoon game,
and then the Sunday night game will be the Buccaneers
at the Rams. By the way, Joe Burrow is probably
going to start this week. He is crazy full participant
(10:03):
in practice two days in a row, and all signs
are indicating that Joe Burrow, who we thought at the
time was going to miss the entire season, is going
to be ready to go with that toe injury this
week against the New England Patriots. Also of note, Shadoor
Sanders makes his first NFL start for the Cleveland Browns
against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday as well. So
(10:24):
lots of intrigue heading into week number twelve of the
National Football League season. College football, the Huskies will be
in Los Angeles taking on the Bruins. The fighting Jerry
new Heiseel's Jerry's dad, Rick new isl turns up joins
us every Tuesday here on the radio program, and we
(10:45):
asked coach new Isel, what about UCLA could give the
Huskies problem Saturday?
Speaker 7 (10:50):
I think you know the player is Niko Iamaliaba, and
when his legs get involved, then they become dangerous. But
getting to that portion of their offenses, it's been difficult.
Early in the season, the defense was doing really, really well.
The last couple of times out they've struggled. They couldn't
stop Nebraska, who had kind of a fleet of foot
(11:13):
quarterbacks a.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Freshman that was playing that particular day, TJ.
Speaker 7 (11:19):
Latif, and I don't know that they'll be able to
corral Demon Williams given what we've seen of him and
his ability to make plays with his legs.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
UCLA has had about as strange as season as a
team can have. One four start fired, their head coach
looked like the worst team in big boy college football,
and then all of a sudden upset Penn State further
ruined their season. Jerry Neweisill becomes this overnight sensation as
(11:51):
a play caller. They win three games in a row,
and just when all seemed good for the Bruins, which
Ashley never roots for, they've lost another three games in
a row. Oh you hate to see it. Yeah, So
they'll host the Uskies a Saturday night. With a three
and seven record, the Dogs go in seven and three.
They've had their road woes too, but at least they're
not having to travel across the country for this one,
(12:12):
and they face a familiar conference rival in Ucla. Kickoff
is at seven point thirty Hanks pregame starts at three
p thirty, and so Ucla versus Washington here in college football.
Week Number thirteen of the college football season, though, is
just packed with all sorts of intrigue. Maybe not a
great game this weekend, but so many things could happen.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Well, what is it. I don't know what's in it.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
There could be anything in there. Yeah, they're going to
be anything that comes out of this week. The gift, Yeah,
who knows. You got number twenty two Missouri at number
eight Oklahoma that starts at nine am at twelve thirty.
Probably the game of the week. Number fifteen USC at
number seven Oregon. I hope nobody's been foolish enough to
make a bet with you.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
I don't usually do that, but our big boss just
decided to put his money where his mouth is. It's
out of nowhere. If I was doing fact to fiction,
i'd take I'd take the Trojans straight up over the Ducks.
I'm like, well, then put your money where your mouth
is and he's like, well, maybe, let me look at
the spread. I said, no, you said it, now put
(13:24):
your money there. He said, all right, let's do it.
So we got a hundred beans straight up.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, you should have fought for vacation days.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
They should have.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, that would have been genie.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
You should have said, you know what, if the Ducks win,
the whole morning show gets the whole Christmas week off.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Should have thought of us about that.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
He'll just be like, here's your hundred bucks.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Well yeah, anyway, Well it's a heck of a college
weekend and James Madison and the Kop's also a very
interesting game that starts at ten am, So the Kogs
suddenly thrust them Sells into the tournament picture because they
can play spoiler for James Madison. James Madison might not
get there no matter what they do, but there's no
(14:09):
chance they get there with two losses. So the Coogs
could spoil James Madison's season with an upset victory.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
This weekend, and good for the Coops and Goog fans,
I'm sure that they're gonna pack the house. Basically, to
make sure they can do everything they can. I mean's
the last couple of years has been unfortunate where they
got thrust into as far as their spot in the
college football world. But yeah, you get to have something
but play spoiler to somebody else.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
That's fun, Yeah, fun full Big ten preview by the way,
coming away this morning at eight forty five. The krakend
were in Chicago last night, trying to avoid consecutive losses
against Midwest clubs. The Blackhawks had been red hot. Connor Badard,
the pre pubescent superstar of the Chicago Blackhawks, has been
(14:55):
lighting it up as of late, and it wasn't looking good.
The team was down two to nothing after two periods
of play, and they decided, hey, it's now time to
go to work.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
Bason Marshmitt, far point Evans walk into the middle back
hands it off to Marshmitt. Now Montour takes his turt
Montour left circle, Montor back.
Speaker 6 (15:15):
Talk tighten sworts on the power play kids.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
The cracking Ay three two lead to eighteen to play
in the third EVERTT fits you on the call right
here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, your
home for cracking hockey. So Brandon Montour shoots a slapper
off of rookie and you gotta love this kid's name,
Oscar Fisker Mouleguard.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
I almost played that highlight just because it's so fun.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
It caroms off his hip and then off of ty
cart Jay's knee and then goes past the goalie for
the team's first goal. And at that point the Cracking
are like, oh, we're living a charm life right now,
we might as well enjoy this. Minutes later, Shane Wright
ties the game, and then with two minutes left in regulation,
the highlight from Everett there of Jaden Schwartz power play
(16:07):
goal Crack and win three two.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Yeah. I was out doing some pool, playing some pool
with my buddies and going into third period like two
zip boy, like that's tough. That's gonna be a tough
one overcoming then bing bing bing next thing. You know,
that's a good win. I mean that is that's a
good win there for the cracking.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Very nice come back ten five and five. Now on
the season, they'll be at Pittsburgh tomorrow and they will
drop the puck on that one at four o'clock again
right here on kJ R Washington Soccer had a great
night last night. I'm not a big soccer fan, really
don't know a lot about the sport, but I'm pretty
(16:44):
sure I know a great night when I see one. Hey,
that's well, three points, no points, no points?
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Why not? It's gotta go.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Win tomorrow, Rob, you gotta get it in.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
There to get three points one point. Yeah, that's that's
a little bit like me.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Yeah, that was ya would think if it as a
really good goal, you should get more points.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yeah, And that was a really good goal. Last night.
The Husky's women's soccer team got a breakaway one on
one and where's her name go? Why is it in
my notes? Alex Buck? It was her name, Alex Buck.
She's flying down the field, she's got one on one. Oh,
there it is, It's right there in the note. And
she ends up getting a little bit of a space
(17:27):
and just let it rip from deep and scores the
only goal. I mean, she bent it like Beckham. It
was the only goal in an NCAA tournament match that
sends you dub to the Sweet sixteen one nothing over Arkansas.
So now five seed Washington will be at one seed
Virginia Sunday morning at eleven am. And not to be outdone,
(17:48):
the men's soccer team also won last night in the
NCAA tournament. They're still just in the first round, but
a three to two win over Oregon State advances them
to round number two. And it turns out that both
the ladies all the ladies and the fellas all the fellas.
We'll both play soccer on Sunday. The men are going
to face SMU, So some good stuff for U doub
(18:11):
Husky's soccer. Finally, let's talk a little hot stove before
the weekend. Earlier this week, Jerry Depoto joined US. We
celebrated with him the signing of Josh Naylor and then
asked him whether or not he'll have to trade a
player to create payroll flexibility to add some new stuff
to this roster this offseason.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
I mean, I guess it depends what we're adding. You know,
we're always open to any type of thought, But you know,
the idea of bringing the team back in some form
to what the twenty five team look like moving players off.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Kind of defeats that purpose.
Speaker 8 (18:46):
So we're very comfortable with the level of talent that
exists on our team. I think as we sit here
in the middle of November. I do believe we're one
of the most complete or most talented teams in the
American League, so pulling away from that team would kind
of defeat the purpose, which is why I answered the
question as I did, which you know, market forces will
(19:07):
have to get a little lucky for all of that
to work for us. But you know, we were very
comfortable with the depth that we've created in our starting rotation.
We like the way you know, our lineup looks. We
do want to continue to provide opportunity for young players.
That's a foundational part of what we do, and we
have good young players, so finding that balance. Striking that
(19:29):
balance is important, you know, which is why a guy
like Jorge is such a pivotal guy in our lineup.
Last year, he could do a little third, he could
do some second, he could d eight. He's even now
played some first base and the switch hitter. That versatility
allows us to continue to develop a team, and you know,
going out and finding players that can do that is
(19:52):
paramount for us, and we'll continue to look whether it's
Orge or somebody else.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Jerry Depoto talking about the possibilities of keeping Ari Polanco
Gino Sworez, but it won't come at risk, probably at
having to move a player of high salary to create
payroll flexibility, and I'm fine with that. I really like
Luis Castillo on our team. I really like Randy rose
Arena on our team. But I will say this, I'll
(20:19):
warn everybody. If you're not gonna move one of those guys,
then it probably is Bucky just running it back with
the same team that closed the season, which I'm fine
with too. It just doesn't make for everybody likes new
shiny toys during the offseason. I don't think you're gonna
get any this year. No, No, he's gonna get your
old favorite toys. Well get you rewrap, Well you're if
you're running back. Josh Naylor just got a bonus. He's
(20:41):
gonna run it back with him for the next five years.
There's a bunch of young dudes that are arbitration eligible.
So if they're going if you run it back with
the same guys, you're going to have the same payroll.
Are you gonna still have an increase in payroll? So yeah,
they'd have to change their stripes and basically go way big.
If you're gonna get some shiny new toy. All right,
Coming up next here on the radio program U Dubs
(21:03):
in Action against UCLA. I want to talk about what
might be a new predicament facing Jedfish and college coaches everywhere.
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. I've been asking
all week long. I don't know if you guys saw this,
Jordan Washington, I'm sure you did. Just uh. He basically
runs like a two to one forty Yeah, I couldn't. Yeah.
(21:25):
And he has this like strange like gait about him too.
It doesn't look like if you just saw him isolated,
he wouldn't think that guy's that fast. And then you
put him all on the field with other normal human beings,
even fast human beings, and he's just racing by everybody.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
And so freshman freshman, he had five carries one hundred
and eight yards twenty one point six yards per carry.
Pretty good, that's very good. Had a touchdown on a
day that Jonah Coleman wasn't available because of injury. And
of course, no one you can't if you're in college,
you can't tell anyone if anybody's injured. Well, thanks thanks
(22:00):
for that.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Nope.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Yeah, so we don't know if Jonah Coleman's healthy enough
to play tomorrow against UCLA or not. And so I
spent the week kind of asking all of our experts
from Softy to Cam Cleveland about, you know, what they
saw at of Jordan Washington and whether or not he
might get some carries this Saturday, whether Jonah Coleman's back
(22:23):
or not. And so we just kind of handled that
question on its face, like, is Jordan Washington worth getting
some carries too? Even if Joanna Coleman's in the lineup
And Adam Mohammad's got three touchdowns last week, so he's
probably gonna get a little bit of carries too. But now,
because of where college football's at and because of the
way you have to manage everything, I wonder if there
(22:46):
is more to this question. I wonder how much Jedfish
has to think about stuff like this. Jonah Coleman's not
going to be here next year. Jonah Coleman's not gonna
leave me in the next couple of weeks. If I
don't highlight Jordan Washington and make him feel really happy
(23:06):
about being a Washington Husky, I could lose him. What
have I lost? Jordan Washington because he just felt like
after one hundred and eight yard rushing performance and then
he got relegated back to third string the very next week.
Do I have to cater toward the guy that I
need to keep next year over the senior who's been
(23:30):
loyal to me and I to him for what five
years now, from Arizona to here? And do I put
Jonah Coleman back into the lineup even though he really
can't help me after next Saturday with anything. I mean,
he's already made his money here with us, he's already
gained his yards. I think you have to consider this stuff.
(23:54):
It's not just as simple as the senior's back and
he's healthy, you've got to give him his start lineup back.
I think you might have to protect the ego of
the eighteen year old who just rushed for one hundred
and eight yards last week. Am I wrong about this?
Speaker 3 (24:13):
I don't think you're I think you gotta think about it,
maybe even have a conversation back in the day. To
have a conversation. You're a freshman. Good job, you ripped
off a good run, You look good, you look fast.
You're gonna have your moment in time.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, and then you preserve him. Yeah, you want to
preserve the freat Well, okay, we saw exactly what we
want to see out of you. Let's just let's just
keep all the tread on those tires. We've got our
senior coming back, and next year we're gonna unleash the
beast with Jordan Washington. But now, I, out of fear
of possibly losing him to more n IL monies or
(24:45):
other offers or whatever the case may be, do you
have to stroke his ego more so than you do Coleman's.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
I think you gotta stroke his ego. At the same time,
you also have to let him know when you are
in Joanah Coleman situation, then I'm gonna take carry you
in trying to get you to the next level. Because
he and Jonah Coleman are boys. You know, they talk
and if all of a sudden, let's just say that
Jonah Coleman is like, I'm healthy, I'm ready to go.
I'm trying to literally run to the NFL right now,
(25:13):
and you put me on the bet. You don't give
me my carries, you don't let me show out the
last couple of games. Uh, that's going. He's his ego
is not going to be getting strog. He'll get you
here well, but you care if he ends up painting
a bad light for you, Like, dude, if I was
you odd, take off and leave. This dude got me
to come from Arizona to hear telling me he was
(25:34):
going to give me every opportunity to run put up
big numbers so that I can get to the NFL.
And sure enough, you go have a couple, You have
a good game, and he's turning his back on me.
Or you say, the NFL already has the book on
you and you if anything, they're going to ding you
Jonah for the number of carries that you had in
college compared to other running backs. And so I'm taking
(25:57):
care of you by not exposing you any more to
any more hits.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
So why don't we just quietly retire behind the scenes.
I'll hand things over to Jordan so that Jordan makes
sure that he's loved here at Washington. Because you and
I have already done our work together. It's time for
me to make sure that this kid doesn't go anywhere
after this season's over. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
No, I totally understand what you're saying. And it's a
crazy thing to even have to think about. Yeah, I'm like,
as you were saying that, I was like, Oh, I
hadn't thought about that at all. But you do have
to think about that now these days with college football,
because it does seem, as coaches have said, every single
moment is a recruiting moment because you have to still
recruit the guys you've got there.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
I think fact to Christian McCaffer remember how controversial it
was when Christian McCaffrey decided not to play in some
silly bowl game for scenes. That's one of the first
people to do it.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
He was.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
I think he was the first that was just like, no,
I'm going to preserve myself for the draft. And people
were killing Christian McCaffrey for that, And then next year
there were like three of them that did it. And
now hardly anybody, yeah, exposes themselves in a bowl game.
Just a bowl game, right, not a playoff game.
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
And yet we've also seen some guys leave before the
playoff games to get to their next destination. We're even
hearing about coaches who are thinking about leaving before they
make the tournament to take the job that pays them
a little extra money going forward, they gets them to
(27:31):
a little bit better of a program than where they're
at right now. I mean, I don't even know what
the code of conduct is anymore. To me, it just
feels like everybody's looking out for themselves. So why would
Jed Fish do any additional favors to Jonah Coleman. I'd
probably spend it to Jonah saying, the NFL's got the
(27:53):
book on you. Let's not risk your NFL future by
playing you against UCLA. Let's go with the kid Washington
here for the next couple of weeks. I think you
have to start thinking about stuff that way.
Speaker 6 (28:06):
And I would like an answer too, because obviously I
need to know if very very personal I need to
keep Jonah Coleman or not.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
You gotta.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Yeah, it's a conversation, and I think it just now
the game is far more. There's a lot more stroking
of the ego, if you will, to everyone that's on
your roster, and then those that are not getting the
opportunity you let them. Hey, your time's gonna come, don't
you worry. You heard that every once in a while
back in the day growing up, if you were guys
sitting behind a stud Hey, watch him, learn from him.
(28:37):
I want you to be him next year. And that
was enough, But you know I didn't also didn't have
an opportunity to be like, well, I don't like that.
I it's not now and I'm leaving. That isn't the
way that work now it does, So I think there
is a lot more that's stroking and trying to keep
the calm waters. That said, I don't know if you
can really do enough. I mean, he's not even in
front of the Mohammed and the depth chart at this point.
(29:00):
So it's if you're letting him know, like, hey, you
keep doing that, you might be the starter next year. Well,
then you've got to give me an opportunity to try
to take that job. That's just in the spring.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I didn't even include to Mohammed. I mean, he's in
this toopmore. You got to figure that out as well,
because they're different, two different types of running back.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Washington's name does really yeah, Washington, Washington.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Wit It does sort of click, doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (29:25):
I don't know. I mean I think that unfortunately, this
is where we're at. And yes, once upon a time
you could whisper to the freshman, your time will come
now you might get the answer from the freshman. Yeah
at UCLA, right, you know, I mean if you don't
handle it the right way, Yeah, your time will come. Yeah,
(29:46):
you're better believe it will come when I'm playing for
Oregon next year. Bye. This is this is what we're.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
All right.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Coming up next more college football. It's our Big Ten Preview,
a service we provide every Friday, plus our pickups, which
is just a selfish way for us to play fantasy football.
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Oh the an
ultimate week of college football regular season anyway, as so
we get ready for the Big Ten schedule this Saturday,
(30:18):
no Friday game this week there are two teams on
by number two ranked Indiana and Purdue are on by
this week, everybody else is in action. Starting at nine o'clock,
Rutgers will get thrashed by number one Ohio State. That
will be at nine am. The other nine am kickoff
will be Minnesota versus Northwestern. Good luck, Gopher fans, enjoy
(30:41):
Darius Taylor's carry is one yep. The game of the
week will happen in Eugene, Oregon, which is where game
day will be. Stupid salespeople, Yeah, she trying to tell
us lies in the break, it'll be USC number fifteen
in the country, at number seven, Oregon at twelve thirty.
(31:02):
Are you worried at all about this one?
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Yeah, us, he's playing some pretty good football. Can I
give him some credit.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
There's no part of me that is thinking it's gonna
be a walkover. I'm glad it's at home. I mean
I'd be even more worried if it wasn't. No, you
better go out and play good. They USC Trojans are
legit there and they have something big to play for.
They're still thinking this win could catapult them up into
the playoffs. So no, this is not one. I wouldn't
(31:28):
lay the nine to ten points. I almost stoke them today.
What the points? Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't lay
that points. I don't necessarily. I mean, Oregon could go
out there. I do think Oregon has more talent. I
think it's advantage Oregon, and luckily you don't legitimately have
to lay points on the field when you're playing the game.
So I feel good. That's why I did put a
(31:49):
hundred bucks on it with old marky Mark. But then again,
I mean I wouldn't have given points. So yeah, I mean,
I'm not overly confident by any stretch.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, well, I mean we've had fun ripping on Lincoln Riley.
I guess we got to give him a little bit
of credit. He's got him playing good football, got him
playing tough football this year. A couple star players on
that USC team should be a really good game. Another
twelve to thirty kickoff in Iowa as Michigan State will
play at Iowa. Michigan State just playing terrible football right now.
(32:19):
Michigan should roll over Maryland. That game will kick off
at one o'clock. Nebraska will be at Penn State. That
was another one that I almost took. Nebraska's getting was
getting nine and a half earlier this week. I don't
think Penn State's more than a touchdown better than Nebraska.
It's down to eight and a half, so it started
to get bet the other way, but I still think
(32:41):
it's too much. I think Nebraska keeps that close. Four
to thirty kickoff Illinois at Wisconsin. It's the Brett Belama Bowl,
as the current Illinois head coach takes on his former
team there at Wisconsin, and of course it all wraps
up with Washington at UCLA seven thirty kickoff. Honks will
get things started at three, So nice schedule. And it
(33:03):
is the second to last week, so we only have
two weeks left in our fantasy league. Two weeks to
track down Christopher Kidd. Things have bunched up pretty tightly
between the three of us, but we all trail Kid
by a fairly significant margin. Ashley's got eight hundred and
two points for the year, Bucky's right behind her with
eight hundred, and I have seven to ninety Kid though
(33:23):
with eight SEVENTI it's not unheard of. I mean, you
could erase it in one week if you have a
big week. He has an off week, so you could.
We could all track him down. We are all in
the game on this, but we do have our work
cut out for us. As a kid sitting there with
eight hundred and seventy points, he drafted a hell of
a team this year. So it's time for our pickups.
We get to add one player, but we have to
(33:44):
drop one player in the process as well. I am
adding Emmett Johnson of Nebraska back to my roster. I
took the risk of cutting my team MVP last week
because I didn't want a zero. Well, I'll get a
zero out of Omar Cooper if I keep him. So
Omar Cooper is off my squad. He can enjoy the
(34:05):
bye week. And Emmitt Johnson is back on my squad.
And they're they're great teammates. They'll they'll believe me, they'll
slap five on the way in and out of the
locker room, really.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Supportive of each other. I don't think they are.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Oh you know, all right. Second pick goes to Chris
Kidd and oh he says he's dropping Denzel Boston for
Justice Hans.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
But he can't, right, because doesn't someone have Haynes.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Nope, Justice Haynes is out with an injury for the
rest of this year.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Oh yeah, so good for him.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Maybe I'll give him a chance to correct that, but
not before you and Ashley pick, so all right, and
he's got min doz on by.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Yeah. So he's given us a couple of zeros, giving
us a chance, a chance. So you're saying they're.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Saying there's a chance. I'm saying for all of us,
we have a chance. Bucky, you got the next election,
You got thirty five from k Tron Allen, You won
the week last next week with seventy one points.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
That makes me feel really good.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Are you gonna drop him?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
No? No, I'm definitely not going to drop him. I
am going to drop the guy that has kind of
screwed me. Sarat. He was killing it for until he
got hurt, and he's been a few zeros in a
row and there on by, So I'm gonna drop him.
It's a matter of who do I want to pick up,
and I'm debating, you know what, I'm gonna go with
something that's a little bit out of the no what, No,
(35:28):
I'm not. I'm gonna go with something that I think
is the Rutgers is going against Ohio State. They're not real.
I mean, they're gonna get whooped, but they could be
passing a lot.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Give me kJ duff, Oh wow, you didn't take your
running back back. I don't think he can.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I can't. I had to trade a yeah, get rid
of one away of the running back.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
All right? kJ Duff of Rutgers. The wide receiver added
back added to Bucky's roster for Elijah Surat. So actually
that comes to you, what are you gonna do on
the second to last week. I am going to.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
I don't really like any of these options, but I
guess I'm going to drop Beatty.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Okay, Hank Betty is gone. Yeah, it's an.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
Illinois guy, I know, and I you know, I love
my Illinois, but just can't do it. And I guess
I guess I'll take Jordan Davison from Oregon because I
need a running back and I think that might be
a high scoring game. Okay, the other Oregon running backs
already taken.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Yeah, all right, I do use like six. He's not
really committed to it. That's a voice. It's not really
anything I like. There's a non committal tone to that.
Jordan Davison, the running back of Oregon, replacing Hank Betty
on Ashley's roster. All Right, so there you go. We'll
have to figure out what we do with this kid.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Mess.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
I hope he keeps Justice Haynes, just because he's arrogant.
All right, coming up next to you, melon X's and
Oh's on a Friday Sports Radio ninety three point three
