Do we still do it? Kind of acknowledging that thing
thirty years ago now, Dick?

Speaker 5 (00:51):
I mean it may put people in a better mood.

Speaker 6 (00:53):
Nope, you gotta wait until you quinch the Alcs like that.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
But it was thirty years ago today today, a day
they could have clinched a trip to the Alcs on
the same day they clinched their first one thirty years ago.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
I think they blew a whole site. Probably don't they
know that.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
I think it probably depends on the age of the listener.
If they're our age and they were there, I remember it,
then I think they probably won it.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
I'll answer that age probably nine. I'm tired of you.
I'm fifty two, and I don't want to hear it
right now. Not anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
I did this morning, but not anymore, not after how
today went. I was already, I'm telling you, and I
woke up already to smother myself in ninety five love.
And then that thing went down in Detroit. Anyway, Mariners
lose today nine to three. You know that Game five
is on Friday. What time We'll tell you when the
Blue Jays Yankees game is over. Blue Jays Yankees tied

(01:47):
at one after three Toronto wins. The game is at
five oh eight Yankees win. The game is at one
forty on Friday.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
The D one Administrative Committee approved today a recommendation to
allow college athletes to wager on professional sports. It will
go into effect November first, if and only if the
D two and D three committee.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Approve it as well.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
You know, the first thing I thought about, the first
person I thought about when I read that story, Who's
that is that? Rick new Heisl got fired because he
was in a betting NCAA tournament pool, and now players
can bet on games.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Well, Billy Joe Hobert got suspended and kicked out of
school for taking.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
A loan, I mean that he had to pay.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Reggie Bush got killed for his parents taken a dryer
in a microwave. I mean, it's crazy, right, what else
have we got? NHL Stanley Cup run is underway. Krack
can go tomorrow against the Ducks at seven pm right
here on KJR. Canadians Toronto tied at one after one
Bruins Capitals, no score first period from Washington.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Let's get to Kevin Harlan right now.

Speaker 7 (02:47):
They are NFL champions, had Alseie Hawks have one Super
Bowl forty eight.

Speaker 3 (02:52):

Speaker 1 (03:20):

Speaker 7 (03:23):
First and goal at the Kansas City one under center
is launch the snap hoo.

Speaker 8 (03:27):
He fell down as he pulled away, hits the.

Speaker 9 (03:30):
Deck, gets pack up, takes a.

Speaker 8 (03:31):

Fog has been thrown holding defense number ship. Here is
the time he go for the play with a touchdown.

Speaker 8 (03:50):
Sterling's a touchdown run and a two point Jacksonville lead
with the extra point coming up, but twenty three seconds
on the clock and the Chiefs have three timeouts.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
All right, we are back on a busy Wednesday night
right here on ninety three to three kJ aarfm.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
That voice, that voice, that silky smooth voice. What a call,
what a game on Monday night?

Speaker 4 (04:14):
And here he is, courtesy of our friends at Twin Peaks,
Tuck Will Eats, drinks, scenic views open early on Sunday
for all the ten am kickoffs. It's our guy Kevin Harlan,
how are you, man?

Speaker 9 (04:26):
I'm doing good. Good to see you. And the game
of the week though, is in your backyard up there? Man?

Speaker 7 (04:32):
That was That was an incredible shootout between Donald and Mayfield,
and I think the team that had the ball last
is going to win. That's exactly what happened.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Well, I guess my question to you would be this,
did we just see the NFL MVP in Seattle on Sunday?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
In Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 7 (04:49):
Well, he's playing at a very high level. There's no
doubt he has led the team to come from behind
wins each of.

Speaker 9 (04:56):
Their four.

Speaker 7 (04:58):
They played Philadeli feel good the week before they went
up to Seattle. Seahawks, we know are a rugged team,
well coached, play well, a lot of weapons, all the
things that you would want. Building to the future, continuing
to turn the roster over and bring him young, nice
new players. But Tampa Bay, really Mayfield is playing out

(05:21):
of his mind right now. He's a kind of guy
that if you walk in a bar with and there's
a fight, you want him right by your side. He
will find any way to get out of there alive.
And that's exactly what he did in a very tough
environment Sunday.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, well, no question about that. And now you know
Mike McDonald's four and eight by the way at Lumenfield.
I mean, it's just insane how they.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
I can't Can you figure that he's nine and one
on the road right right, and he's four and eight
after that loss? That is inexplicable in one of the
loudest and most difficult places to play in the league.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Well, is it still a difficult place? I mean, four
or five years ago there was a mistake of lumen
and all that, But I don't know. Is it still
there in your opinion?

Speaker 7 (06:02):
Yes, of course it's there. I'm not sure why the
winning is not piling up like it does on the road.
I have no idea why it's not lost its magic.
It's just this is clearly I think more if you
take the four and eight overall, more of a blip,
and my guess is that will even out and probably
get over five hundred at home pretty soon. The way

(06:24):
he coaches, the way that team plays, Darnold looks just
like he did last year with the Vikings's right on
his game. Jackson Smith and Jigby I can't say, And
Coop is is such a great asset to what they've
got with these receivers. Cupp has clearly still got something

(06:45):
left in the tank. But Smith and Jigba, I mean,
I don't know, defenses don't have He finds a way
to get free and he just the touchdown catch in
the back of the end zone was marvelous and I
love the connection between those two. Walker continues to be
something You've got to pay attention to it for your
defensive coordinator.

Speaker 9 (07:07):
I mean, I like the team. I gotta be honest.

Speaker 7 (07:09):
It was you could flip a coin and either team
was going to win, and who held the ball last
was going to win.

Speaker 9 (07:14):
That's exactly what happened, Like you.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Said, and then Sam Donald, excuse me, Sam Donald. You know, look,
if they win the game, a lot of people were
talking about what Sam Donald the offense just did, but
instead they're talking about what the defense just did. So
have we reached a point now where we can officially say, Kevin,
after what we're watching Gino Smith do with the Raiders,
after what we're watching Sam Donald do here in Seattle,
that the Seahawks made the right move moving on from

(07:37):
Gino and bringing in Sam Donald to be their new
starting quarterback.

Speaker 7 (07:41):
Even if we didn't know how many interceptions that Gino
had thrown take a race, that it was still a win.
Younger quarterback, better upside. Him and Kubiak have had a
history together when they were at San Francisco. He was
checking all the boxes, and he was as hot a
quarterback coming out of last year as we could find.
Those last two games the Vikings played at Detroit and

(08:03):
then the playoff game in Arizona against the Rams, those
are more blips. He was under a heavy duress and
the line failed him and and it was not what
the Vikings had been in a fourteen and three regular season.
So what we're seeing now is what we saw last year.
And I think that I never even thought second of it.

(08:25):
Clearly what John Schneider didn't think about it either. I
think he appreciated what Gino had done. He had he
had stabilized the position. He was good to even better
than good when he was there. And coaches know, they
just they just do because they see these players every
day of every week of every season. They know exactly

(08:47):
when skills begin to erode. Now that's not saying that
Smith's skill set is not what it once was with
those years up in Seattle. But clearly he's playing in
a different kind of situation right now and maybe pressing
a little bit into tight windows, a little bit impatient.
It's showing whereas Donald is basically picking up with a

(09:08):
new cast and a new offensive language in his head
that he is trying to continue to manipulate and picking
up where left off. I'm bullish on Donald, have been
since you left San Francisco. It was it was the
right choice.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Well, Kevin Harlan, who's always the right choice, baby is
with us on the radio show courtesy at Twin Peaks
Tuck Willa at Kevin had.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
People stopping people are stopping me in the bathroom, in
the food line, in the hallway.

Speaker 9 (09:35):
I listened to you, and so if you.

Speaker 7 (09:38):
Really don't you have anything better to do with your time,
no listen to that stuff.

Speaker 9 (09:43):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
We're all losers out here. We got nothing to do
with our lives.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
But let me go back to Jacksonville because the Hawks
have them on Sunday down there, and they're three and
oh at home. You just saw them coming off that
emotional win on Monday night. Is it possible the Hawks
could climb down there and maybe sneak one Jaguars on
a short week. They're all fired up coming off the
emotion of Monday night. Am I crazy thinking the Hawks

(10:08):
maybe in a good spot this Sunday.

Speaker 7 (10:10):
No, I like the Hawks position this Sunday. They have
a better overall roster. I think the quarterback. If I
had to take between Lawrence and Donald, I would take Donald.
They've got a terrific running back in Etn. They've got
a couple of young receivers as Travis Hunter looks like
the real deal, the kid out of Colorado, their high pick.

(10:32):
He looks legit.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
I think defensively they've got they've got a couple of playmakers.
One did not play against Kansas City Walker he had
risk surgery, but I think he'll play this weekend. He's terrific.
And and they've got playmakers. They got the Ragning AFC
Defensive Player of the Month and Devin Lloyd who had
the ninety nine yard pick six off Mahomes. No, they've got,

(10:56):
they've got. It will be challenging, there's no doubt, and
they're feeling really good about themselves right now. That being said,
after what I saw from Seattle against an elite Tampa
Bay team, and I do think even without Mike Evans,
they are really really good and Bucky Irviy. They didn't
have the number one running back, but there's it's one
in one A. It's not one in number two. It's
one in one A with Tampa Bay. I definitely like

(11:19):
the Seahawks in that game. I'm not saying they're gonna win,
but right now you're taking on a first place team
on the road, in the heat, across country. That's always challenging.
But again you mentioned it earlier nine and one on
the road. This team seems to really thrive when they're
away from Seattle. And I wouldn't blink going into that
building on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
How much trouble is Kansas City. And right now they're not.

Speaker 7 (11:43):
They're okay, They're fine. They're they're gonna get Rashid Rice
back after this weekend. They're they're they're gonna be fine.
Whenever you've got Mahomes and I know they've equaled their
lost total of last year or exceeded it. We understand
all the different things you know that are going on.
But their offense is better. They're going downfield more, they

(12:05):
have the fastest group of receivers as a room in
the league. Mahomes I think has more trust in his
offensive line, which he hasn't the last two years. He's
a little bit more patient in the pocket. He's always
got the ability to run. You know, there's a lot
to like about the Chiefs still, and they're going to
be fine. The Raiders look like they're tailing off a

(12:25):
little bit. I don't know that the Chargers are going
to be able to fix what was going to be
the dominant part of their offense, and that was run
the ball. They've lost their two running backs for the
rest of the season. That is a killer. They are
in dire straits and they wanted to run. Now they're
going to be one dimensional. Teams are going to load
up on that, and the left tackle is a question

(12:47):
mark until Alt gets back. But I still like the
Chiefs in that division. I have said all along. Their
biggest competition will probably beat Denver. I think Denver's terrific.
They've got an All Pro at each of the defensive levels,
all three of them. They've got an emerging quarterback. They
can run the ball. They have one of the top
five offensive lines in Pro football. I love them and

(13:10):
they've got receiving speed. Denver is the team to watch,
and that would to me, at this stage through five games,
that to me appears to be the biggest challenge for
the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Well you saw the Bengals winning the division vision, right, Yeah,
I mean, I.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Mean nine to eight may win the West for gods sake.

Speaker 7 (13:27):
So yeah, absolutely, nobody. Listen, your division may not be
too different. Quite frankly, your division may be right there
in that same conversation. That's what happens when you've got
two great divisions. They kind of cannibalize each other, but
you come out of there, hopefully stronger when you reach
the postseason.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Well, you saw Kevin because you follow these things that
the Bengals just got Joe Flacco from the Browns. I
guess our guy, Jake Browning, the former.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Husky, just has to take a back seat again and
watch Joe Flacco. But I don't know how he's going
to perform behind that freaking terrible offensive line they had.
But I don't know, man, I mean, what are we
expecting out of old man Fleco and Cincinnati? And do
we think at some point on the opposite side that
we're gonna see Chador start a game for Cleveland.

Speaker 7 (14:11):
I think they like Gabriel. I think he's the guy,
and I think they're gonna ride him. And I think
they're gonna work through this season and see if one
of those two kids, you know, can't be their future,
and if not, they're gonna draft high again and probably
you know, figure it out. That's Cleveland. But I think Flaco,
who has already beaten Green Bay by the way this season,

(14:33):
is the starting quarterback with the Browns, is gonna face
him again this weekend at Lambeau. And I really think
the Bengals the emotional blow of losing that quarterback was
so significant that you could just tell by the even
though they began to and Ozero, you could just tell
by their body language. Their their minds are just like

(14:54):
mush and and they got they got the first two
games after Burrow was gone. They let what seventy six
points or some ridiculous number, they were getting blown out.
I think that what they're getting is a guy who's
gonna be not mistake free, but he's gonna know what's

(15:14):
around every corner. He's played this defense just a couple
of weeks ago, so he knows it well, and he's
going to get a second shot. He knows the division
because he's been in the division. When they get the
division play, I think that team needs a mental shot
in the arm, and I think flak Go represents stability.
I think there's a little bit of a trust. He

(15:35):
still has something left in the tank. And I feel
bad for Browning, but his numbers were god awful, and
you cannot turn the ball over and that's all he
was doing. He was pressing. He admitted he was pressing.
Usually when you press, you make mistakes through the air,
and he was making a ton of them. So you
wipe it clean. You reinstill the confidence in the position
with your team. You show the team that you're going

(15:57):
out and you're not waving the white flag. You're two
in three, you're very much in it. The division is weak.
I think they can still make a stand and they're
gonna get Burrow back. They think maybe by early December.
And now you've got a real strong quarterback position. So
I'm thumbs up on it. I don't know that they
had a lot of options. They probably looked at Andy Dalton,

(16:17):
They probably looked at some other backups like russ In
New York and maybe even Kirk Cousins down in Atlanta.
He thought this was the best way to go. And
I trust the people that make these decisions and we'll
see what turns out Kevin.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Before we get to where will Kevin be for TV
on Sunday, let me ask you about a college football
coach whose name is Bill Belichick. Total complete train wreck
down there in Chapel Hill, Right, it's a circus, all
kinds of rumors about, you know, the.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Locker room being fractured.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
You had the controversy with his girlfriend, which was just weird.
There was supposed to be a documentary that just got yanked,
and I'm just wondering in football circles, what is this
experience in college? And you couple that with what happened
to him on the field after Brady went to Tampa Bay.
What is all this doing to Bill's legacy?

Speaker 1 (17:07):
In your opinion?

Speaker 7 (17:09):
Well, you know it's I'm a Belichick fan. Yeah, So
what he did was historic New England to run that
few have ever had.

Speaker 9 (17:20):
And we all know that.

Speaker 7 (17:23):
The problem with college football is it's less coaching and
more about money because it's all about talent. And it's
that way in the NFL too, But the coaching can
really make a difference because you got the same group,
got the same financial ramifications team to team to team.
The biggest difference is quarterback. In college, your quarterback doesn't

(17:44):
have to be great if he can just maintain it's
the other parts around him. So that means bulk, and
that means in this day and age, a college football
who has the deepest pockets to get the best possible
talent to make it work. If it were the old
days and Belichick was not dealing with the salary cap,
which is what nil is or not a cap, I'm sorry,

(18:04):
it's a it's the wild West. It's an unlimited, you know,
amount of money regarding you know what you can pay
these camps.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Well, there's there's a cap from the school's perspective, but
not the collective perspective.

Speaker 9 (18:15):
Yeah, but then nil.

Speaker 7 (18:16):
Then you get deals, you know, with a car dealer
in a telephone company and everything we know we all know. Okay,
So right now it feels to me like if Belichick
had coached twenty years ago in college when maybe there
was a little bit of you know, recruiting in one
hundred here and two hundred there, and whatever. But basically,
you were operating with the same number of scholarships that
every other school was working with, and coaching really and

(18:38):
developing culture and schemes and and and a wherewithal and
you weren't having the transfer portal to deal with and
all this other stuff.

Speaker 9 (18:47):
He would have thrived.

Speaker 7 (18:48):
But in this day and age, it's all about money
and and it's all about, you know, trying to bring
together a bunch of kids out of the portal and
instill them in a system and maybe rent them for
nine months.

Speaker 9 (19:00):
And it's it's not his world. That's not his world.
He's not a fund that's Have you noticed.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
How many college basketball coaches are leaving, you know why
they're leaving because the world is different, right, and they
don't want to be fundraisers.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
They want to be basketball coaches.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
And my guess is is with these football coaches, until
they get some kind of stability in that situation, we
may even see big name football coaches say, you know
what I'm done. You cannot operate fairly in this system.
And Belichick is finding it out. And no North Carolina
that much of a football history. It's not Oklahoma, it's

(19:35):
not Texas, not LSU, not Notre Dame, not Florida, you
know what, whatever, Alabama, It's not that, it's North Carolina.
It's like trying to do the same thing at Kansas
or or or some of these other schools that don't
have a big football legacy. You know, the North Carolina
is a basketball school. Kansas is a basketball school. So,
you know what, It's an ugly situation, and it does.

(19:57):
It seems like there's a lot of leaking coming out
of that program. And it's unfortunate because that is he
truly is one of the great coaches of all time
in either level college or pro. But this is this
is ugly and we're in a bad We're in a
bad view of.

Speaker 9 (20:11):
It right now.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
All right, before you go, where will Kevin be for
TV on Sunday? I am going to, uh, you're doing
You're doing what you're doing Bear's Commanders on Monday Night?
Is that right?

Speaker 9 (20:23):
Yep?

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Okay, I'm gonna I'm going to predict that the A
team will be doing Niners Buccaneers and that you are
on I'm gonna say Bengals Packers in Green Bay? Am
I right?

Speaker 9 (20:36):
Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I got one. I got one.

Speaker 7 (20:40):
I know I got first of all, no one cares.
Second of all, You're right. For the first time in
about two years.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
I got one. Oh, I can retire. Just take me now.
I'm in the books with a win. All right, Kevin, you.

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Give them bullheart. Literally, you have a heart.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
It's all I needed.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Man, I can die a happy man, all right, Go
get him on Sunday, have fun Monday night and we'll
talking a week buddy, Thanks.

Speaker 9 (21:04):
Pal, Thanks Parder, good to see you, dapat you bet.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Kevin Harlan with us on the radio show.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
We're gonna break a lot more reaction to what went
down in Detroit, Michigan.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Today. Next on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
This is Duke of Duke Seafood and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it at Duke's night tonight. Reserve your table today at
dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Softy and Dick on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
Alright, five thirty five on a Wednesday afternoon, Right here
on ninety three three KJRFM. I wonder if there's anybody
out there tuning in right now, that has no idea
what happened in the Mariners game today? You think, So,
is there anybody, one person out there who got in
the card and say, you know what, I have been
in meetings all day. Let me flip on Softie and
Dick and see what happened in the air in her

(22:00):
game today. What are the odds of one person one,
just one person listening right now that has no clue
what happened today?

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Next enough zero? Which is weird chance? And I think
one person?

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Dick, you say no, I don't not one, no, because
if you were that interested, right, you would have checked
your phone.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Sure maybe well maybe they lost their phone. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
Is anyone recording and watching later?

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Maybe they're bad service? Anyone doing that now.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
I don't do that, but I know he does all
the time. But he does the smart thing. He turns
his phone off.

Speaker 9 (22:33):
Phone.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
You know who does that constantly. Hugh Millan does that
all the time, especially with Money Night football. I'll call
him during the game. I'm not watching, don't tell me
what's going on. I'm like, I.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
Appreciate that because he says it right out of the gate.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I'm watching the game.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Don't blow this for me, all right, But the Mariners
lost today. They were up three to nothing in the
fifth inning and the bullpen just absolutely peed down their leg.
Gabe spier Bizardo, the whole thing. Did Vargas give up
a bomb late in the game too?

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Am I right about that?

Speaker 4 (23:02):
By the way, garbage Stein's well, it was nine to three, right,
so whatever, So the game was over by the time
he came into the game. But there will be a
game five, and we're keeping an eye on the Blue
Jays Yankees. If the Blue Jays win today, the game
is going to be at one forty. If the Yankees
win today, the game is at five o eight on
Friday either way at Team Mobile Park. And right now
bottom five Blue Jays lead to one over the Yankees.

(23:23):
Here's manager Dan Wilson. Let's hear from the skipper after
today's loss in Game four to Detroit.

Speaker 10 (23:31):
You know, I think you know he has You're right,
He's thrown the ball incredibly well all season long. They
were able to, you know, get to him on a
couple of pitches that looked like, you know, just they
were very aggressive on him, and you know, able to
get some balls into the outfield and you know, uh
able to you know, really they were just able to
get to our bullpen today. And it's been such a

(23:51):
strength and they've thrown the ball incredibly well all season long.
And you know, one of the things our guys do
the best is they bounce back, and we're going to
do that and no better place to do that going
back home and and uh, you know, being able to
do that at home and on Friday night will be
what we need to do.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
Why why was that the best pocket firm against Meadows
knowing that hinge kin counter there versus me saving him
for Carpenter and another later pinch hit.

Speaker 10 (24:16):
Yeah, I mean I think you know, uh we anticipated
that the move that you know that they were going
to pinch hit there. But but still like the way
he gave matches up and and he throws the ball
so well and has you know, right hand and left
hand doesn't matter, and you know, just uh they were
able to get to them today. Yeah, and you're up early,

(24:36):
they come back score so many right there.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Just how challenging is it to in a game.

Speaker 10 (24:41):
Like this to regain momentum there and.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Try to kind of stem the tide.

Speaker 10 (24:45):
Yeah, you know again this is you know, postseasons is
about momentum and getting that momentum, and uh, uh they
were able to to kind of turn the table there
and get it. You know, we weren't able to get back.
You know, then they were able to score again and
and kind of uh spread the lead a little bit.
But again, I think, you know, it's up to us
now to turn the table back and and get back home,

(25:06):
bounce back and uh you know, get in from of
the home fans and and feel their energy and and
come out Friday ready to go.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Dan.

Speaker 11 (25:14):
I mean, you mentioned bouncing back, and this has to
be a pretty massive emotional blow considering you're so close
to winning this series.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
But how do you go about bouncing back?

Speaker 11 (25:21):
And what's your message to those guys to try to
further that?

Speaker 10 (25:25):
Yeah, I mean, you know, again everything's in front of us,
and and uh, you know, these guys have have have
done this all season long, where you know, they you know,
get in tough situations and they know exactly what to
do and and and they do fight back, and they
do bounce back, and uh, I'm not worried about that
at all. And and no better place to do that
than at home. So you know, I think we just

(25:45):
continue to do the things we've been doing and and
uh just get back on the right track on Friday.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
So you look at tex scooballs home road Splint, send
me they're very good. I mean, he's incredible no matter
where he pitches, right, I mean he's got a sub
two and a half e r A at both home
and on the road.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
So I was going into a park that could be
a five o'clock start with a marine layer on a
fifty five degree.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Yeah, I'm not.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
I mean, if I'm a Tiger fan, I'd be very
confident in Trek's schooble. You know, I know we're hometown
guys here we talk about our team blah blah blah.
But if we were Tiger fans doing a Tiger Hank
show in Detroit, we'd be like, this is great if
you know everything we're saying about. If you told me
game five at home, one game for the right to
go to the ALCS, where do I sign? If you

(26:28):
told Tiger fans one game ALCS schooble, I'm a mound
to win it, where do I sign, they would say
the exact same thing, the exact same.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
Thing, completely agree, and I don't think home road makes
any difference. I know the Mayors down the stretch were
much better at home than they were on the road.
But they proved on what was it Saturday, that it's
a new season basically with this playoff. So I just
I honestly don't know what's going to happen, and we
mentioned it earlier. I would take I know it's Schooble,

(26:56):
but I still like the kind of Kirby Castio matchup
going up.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
All Right, we're the better baseball team. I don't know
how many times I gotta say that, only how many
innings I gotta watch Tiger Baseball. We are a better
baseball team. Yes, they will have a better starter, but
how much better will Scooball actually be than the combo
of Castillo and Kirby?

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Maybe a run? Maybe that's significant.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
It is it's significant if the store is one to nothing.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Look, I mean, guys, here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
I mean, we can paint any kind of picture we
want on Friday. Nobody in this room can be shocked
if the Mariners lose the game Friday.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
This is not a This is.

Speaker 4 (27:39):
Not a You're a moron if you think the Mariners
are going to lose the game, but I do not.
This is not your putts. If you're panicking about Friday.
I mean, I guess it just all depends on if
you're a glass half full or glass half person. To
begin with, I'm I'm by nature a little bit skeptical,
you know, of stuff, And I'm nervous for Friday. But
you know what, Hey, look, I'd be nervous even if

(28:01):
we had the advantage. I'd be nervous even if Jack
Flaherty was pitching, just because of what is on the
line in this game. The significance of what is on
the line. I mean, you got a generation of fans
that have never seen these guys play for the right
to go to the World Series twenty four years. That
is not something that we can just dismiss. This is
a significant thing that this baseball team is playing for

(28:24):
on Friday.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
So either way, I think you're nervous as hell, no
matter what. No matter what. Yeah, you're nervous as hell.
But I'm not fatalistic at all.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
And I'm sure there's a lot of Mariner fans that
were over the moon at about one thirty this afternoon. Yes,
and now, based upon what happened in five innings of baseball.

Speaker 9 (28:44):
We're done.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Season's over, and I just like, those are the people
that I bristle at.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
I mean, those are the people that I just I
want to admit that I bristle at it because because
what happened on a Wednesday afternoon for five innings, that
is going to effect what happens on Friday night. It
didn't work for the Tigers. The Tigers lost a couple
of days ago, they were down three nothing. Today, every
Tigers fans were leaving the building or not even in

(29:10):
the building, and look who ended up winning the guesses?

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Why sport?

Speaker 4 (29:13):
This is why I don't like this conversation. Okay, I'll
just be honest with you, and I'm not saying that
you're trying to sound like this. This is the way
that I think it comes off, and it's the way
that sometimes I take it, and I don't think you
mean it like this at all.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Okay, So let me just put that out there.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
I think when we say things like I bristle at
people that are like that, it almost has a superiority
complex that comes along with it, like I'm a better
fan than you because I'm more calm about Friday, Dick.
I'll be totally honest with you. I am crapping myself.
I am too for this game on Friday. Crapping myself.
I am extremely nervous and I'm scared out of my

(29:51):
friggin mind for this thing on Friday afternoon at one
forty or five o'clock. So if there's people out there
that want to just get that emotion should out in
that type of way, then, oh my god, I can't
believe it.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
All of us in the end want the same thing.
Let him be that way.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
I don't think it's what. I don't think it's better fan.
I don't think it's superior. It's just it's just fact.
The fact of the matter is they haven't lost the
game on Friday. That's what I'm trying to portray here,
is that there are people out there that in their
minds have already decided that the Seattle Mariners have lost
on Friday.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
That's what I'm bristling at, because it's not fat. I'm
not bristling at that at all.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
If that's the way fans want to act, and if
that's the way fans need to behave to get them
through the next forty eight hours before first pitch on Friday,
all of us on Friday, no matter how we get there,
emotionally right, we'll be doing the same thing watching that
baseball team who we all love, rooting our asses off.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
For them to win the game. So I don't give
a damn how you get there, just get there.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
On Friday five point forty five, we're gonna break Petros
Papadakus was not able to be with us at four.
He'll be with us at six thirty tonight, coming up
on ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
This is Duke for Duke Seafood, and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it at Duke's night tonight. Deserve your table today at
dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Saftian Dick on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
All right, we're gonna do a little fun with audio.
Next segment. Petro's coming up at six twenty eight today.
He was not able to join us earlier today because
he was I think making his way to Dodger Stadium
by the way through traffic. So we will get him
on the air for a short segment coming up at
about six thirty or so tonight, but before we get
the headlines, before we get to a little fun with audio.
Next segment, why don't we hear from the face of

(31:43):
the enemy the man who will pitch for the Tigers
in Game five on Friday? And Dan Wilson is still
not announced, by the way, what they're doing Friday?

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Correct?

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Okay, Trek scouble with the media after today's Game four
before he must win Game five for both teams on Friday.

Speaker 11 (31:59):
I've talked a lot about this when with Cleveland, but
now with Seattle facing the same team in the same
stadium just a few days afterwards. I mentioned there aren't
a whole lot of secrets, and I mean the game
plans on both sides are going to be well studied,
I suppose over the last week or so.

Speaker 12 (32:15):
Yeah, I mean, this is what competition is all about.
This is why you play the game. You know, for
game fives. I mean, if you in seven games, right,
you have an opportunity to go three through three against Cleveland,
you know, my last three starts of the year, or
you know two and then first game of the wild card.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
But yeah, it's competition.

Speaker 12 (32:33):
You know, and I think that that's going to bring
out the best and everyone involved, and that's why this
game is so beautiful. You know, we're going to be
able to go experience that on Friday.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Oh that's somebody cut off? What happened there?

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Was that.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Automatically?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Well there you go, Derek Scuball, Tiger starting pitcher. I'd
like to get an announcement by the way of who's
pitching Friday, Like, what are we waiting for here?

Speaker 1 (32:59):
I mean, higers have already announced here they're going with.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
I guess you know, look, they got to sift through
some stuff whatever, But I would guarantee before today's game
they had some kind of an idea of what their
plan was going to be. And I don't think today
should have changed that much who their starting pitcher.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
Would I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
But it might be one of those things you're on
the plane coming home and you're crunching the numbers and
you're having conversations with your coaching staff and just let's
let's just make sure we're all on the same page
here and find out exactly how many innings each one
of these guys can go. Let's face it, this is
gonna be a Castillo Kirby start. It's either going to
be Castille thank Kirby, or it's gonna be Kirby than Castillo.
But I would imagine that both of them are going

(33:36):
to pitch because they're two of your top four pitchers
that are available.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
To pitch in this game.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Coming off, you know, obviously Georgia's on what five days
rest he pitched on Saturday, so Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
five days off, he's on regular rotation, actually gets the
extra day off, and then Luis Castillo would have the
full four days off, So both of these guys should
be ready to go in the game on Friday.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
Let's gonna break a fun with Audio.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Petros will join at six twenty eight Right here on
ninety three three KJRFM
