Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hugh Millan will join us obviously as he does every Monday,
for a little more at four on the radio program
We'll get you a little fun with audio as well
on the show, lots of stuff to talk about. The
Huskies get the big win in the La Bowl and
finished the year nine him four where I am pretty
damn well convinced by the way guys they were pumping

(00:20):
in crowd noise at Sofi Stadium on Saturday. Yeah, because
the amount of noise that I heard coming out of
those jumbo speakers at so Far was not reflective of
the attendance in the stands on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Man, they might be just highly ind fifteen thousand people
that were really noisy.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Ah, I dote that, but good production right. Got to
talk to Gronk, complete and total meathead, by the way,
which is what we unbelievable. I mean, it was exactly
the way you would have assumed he comes across in person.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
It was incredible.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
So ran up there in a stage, stuck my mic
in his face and got him on the ear for
a couple of minutes, told him how mad at him
I was for what they did to us in the
Super Bowl and Glendale and.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Talk the smack team.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, he proceeded to remind me of the three touchdowns
he caught when he was with Arizona against the Huskies,
so I pretty much told him to shut the hell
up when I cut him off. So yeah, that was
That was a fun night. But anyway, a Husky season
comes to and n we can talk about that. But
the big news, obviously is the Hawks getting a win
yesterday over old Man Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts. And look,
I mean I understand, you know, people's perspective on this

(01:21):
that God, thank god they're playing a grandpa and not
Daniel Jones, because you never know what would have happened
if a competent quarterback was out there. I'm just gonna
say this, I am beyond, dude. It's ten days until Christmas, Dick.
I am beyond, to be honest with you, caring that
much about how the Seahawks look when they win these
games as opposed to just winning them. We are we

(01:43):
are fighting for an NFC West championship. We are fighting
for the number one seed in the NFC. We are
fighting for a chance to go back to a Super
Bowl for the first time in eleven years. If that's
the recipe that it took to win that game yesterday.
That I'm all for it because look, people complaining Hawks
can't run the ball. Okay, guys, have you watched the

(02:04):
Seahawks this year. They haven't run the ball the entire season.
It's ten days before Christmas. That's not going to change,
and if it does, it won't change much between now
in the postseason. Is there concern about Sam Donald in
big moments come playoff time? Sure there is, sure there is.
But nothing he would have done yesterday would have changed that.

(02:25):
I think for a lot of people, there's only one
way that Sam Donald can change that narrative, and that's
do it in the playoffs, in a wild card game
or a divisional game or the NFC championship. So I
just think this my biggest fear about this football team
has become crystal clear to me. I don't want to
waste this defense dick at all. I think if you

(02:47):
have a defense like you've got, and I don't really
care what quarterback you're playing, you have a defense like this,
you've got to take advantage of it.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
What does that mean? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
We can decide that individually. Does it mean at least
a couple the playoff wins. Does it mean a trip
to the NFC Championship? Does it mean a trip to
the Super Bowl. I just don't want to waste this
defense because I think this defense is special. And I
think as long as Mike McDonald's here, it's gonna get
more special as the year goes by, years go by.

(03:17):
This is the start of something fantastic for this franchise,
as long as this guy is coaching that football team.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I just want to remind folks that we are twelve year,
twelve years removed from the exact same scenario. I was
at the game against Tennessee in twenty thirteen when we
needed a late touchdown to win twenty to thirteen. That's right,
the Monday night football game against the Saint Louis Rams
where we scored fourteen points in that game.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
How about the Buccaneers game.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
How about the loss to Arizona the second to the
last game of the regular season, where we scored ten.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Points at home?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Guys, this has happened before.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And guess what, you panicked twelve years ago and we
went on to win the Super Bowl. So go ahead
and panic now. I'm not saying that there's nothing that
you shouldn't be a little concerned about. Soft he brought
those things up, but to say that those things can
will prevent you from winning a Super Bowl or you
can't win a super Bowl because of X, Y and Z.

(04:16):
I heard it all before, and I saw us do it. Well,
here's the thing you did see them do it before.
I understand why people have those concerns. I'm just speaking
for myself.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I also do have those concerns, but they're not overwhelming
concerns because well, I don't think there's a right answer though,
Dick Like, I'm just speaking for how I feel. I
feel like this defense the Seahawks will go as far
as this defense takes.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Them, right.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I mean, are the Seahawks really as good as their
scoring offense portrays them to be.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Probably not.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
They have the number one scoring differential in football, number
one in the NFL. Okay, I mean, think about all
the high octane, great offenses, great quarterbacks and the National
foot Ball League and little old Sam Darnold reclamation project
kicked to the curb a couple of years ago, rose
from the dead Clint Kobiak on his fifteam in five

(05:10):
years whatever is now rebuilt offensive line, that offense that's
complimented by this great defense. This is the football team
that has the number one point differential in the National
Football League. So their offense probably is not as good
as the numbers say, and every game is going to
be a dog fight, guys. I mean, you know, look,
can I see them winning the NFC? Absolutely? Can I

(05:33):
see them potentially getting bounced in the first or second round.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I think the possibilities for this football team are off
the freaking charts right now, and one of the possibilities
is winning the entire damn thing. Like Anders and I
were talking off the year, you and I were talking
off the year after what the Bills did the Patriots
yesterday was a twenty four to three at one point
that game whatever it was, Yeah, and they came back
and won the game, and Buffalo like four of their

(05:59):
last five wins. They're just outscoring people. I mean, this
is just unbelievable what the Bills are doing. Thirty five,
thirty one, thirty nine, thirty four, forty four to thirty two.
They are just outscoring people. And now with Mahomes out
of the way, obviously, and with the AFC and the
NFC wide open. It kind of feels like maybe this
is the year where Buffalo takes advantage of it and
finds a way to at least get to the super Bowl.

(06:21):
So I just think the message for me that I
had two weeks ago, a week and a half ago
hasn't changed at all. There's eight or nine, maybe even
ten damn teams in the NFL that can win a title,
and the Hawks are one of them.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
With that defense. You bet your ask the one.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, I'm starting to shrink that number, but your point
is well taken. There is far more parody on December
the fifteenth of this year than there usually is on
December the fifteenth. I've probably narrowed it down though, to
six or seventeen.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Let me ask you this, Could the Patriots win it?
Could they get there?

Speaker 1 (06:54):
About? How about just get there? How about just win
the Coffer? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Could the Patriots do Matriots and Buffalo do it?

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Could Denver do it?

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yes? Could Chargers and Jim Harbaugh find a way to
catch fire and do it the playoffs? I think they can't. Okay,
that's four. Could the Eagles find a way to figure
it out? Could the Texans find a way to figure
it out with that defense. The Bears, the Rams, the Hawks,
and we just named like it's crazy, it's unbelievable. So
with this deep legitmate, Now, look, I mean, if I'm

(07:22):
going to go into a film room, which I would
never do and they'd never want me in there, we'll
talk to you about this at four o'clock. I think
some of the problems the Hawks are having now are
problems they've been having for the last month, which is
red zone offense. Let's score some touchdowns, Let's try and
run the damn ball. I mean, god, guys, if I
would have told you before yesterday's game, let's say I
just give you a buzz on Sunday morning and you

(07:42):
asked me, Hey, hey, Dave, how does the Seahawk rushing
game look against the Colts? Kenny Walker nine for seventeen,
sharbon A eight for thirty one. They averaged two point
three yards per carry. That's not good, is what you
to say.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
They lost the game.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
That is not good, and they won the And guys,
that's the thing. This football team is not playing great
football in some pretty damn important areas and they're still
winning well.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Their defense allowed three point seven yards per play yesterday, right,
I mean, think of you, and I'll tell you how
good that is. The number one team in the NFL
and yards per play allowed is oh, the Seahawks at
four point eight, So they allowed one full yard less
than the number one team in the NFL did yesterday,

(08:31):
Philip Rivers or not man, that was a tremendous defensive
performance against either the best or the second best running
back in the NFL in Jonathan tayl.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Which they did a great job in the second half
of And that's one of the things I want to
talk to you about that you're looking at the first
half for Jonathan Taylor. Sixteen carries for fifty eight The
guy's on pace for one hundred and twenty yard day.
And he carries the ball nine times, yes, nine times,
if I had my damn clip, by the way, nine
times for twenty nine yards in the second half. He
averaged three point one yards per carry in the second

(09:02):
half of that game. So they shut him down and said, look, dude,
beat us. I mean, you saw the game. You saw
how tough it was for him. Every ounce of energy
Philip Rivers had went behind every throw he made. It
was like me pushing a medicine ball. It was unbelievable
watching that guy for the football.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yes, and I get in a lot of Seahawks fans
are thinking about the last month or so and like
the competition hasn't really been there, and it's like, Okay,
when do you get to beat a really really good
team Thursday night? Yeah, that'll absolutely do it for sure,
Thursday and night. I want to caution people to think
that this Colts team, even with their forty four year
old grandpa quarterback good they're a really good team.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
They're five for a reason, twelfth in the NFL and
scoring defense, yes, they're not terrible. They got good weapons.
I mean, Millan talked about that, and I'm kicking myself
for not putting money on the Colts and the points
that was crazy. Yeah, yeah, I don't care who's playing quarterback.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
Man.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
We all got sucked in by what the Seahawks did
against bad teams the last couple of weeks. The Colts
are a much better team than the team that we
played the last couple.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
And look, if you don't think that Mike McDonald kind
of was maybe potentially factoring in what the Colts had
at quarterback and his offensive play calling yesterday in that game,
I think you're nuts. I mean, I'm just looking at
and again, six field goals for Jason Myers. I mean,
knock on wood, this guy has been unbelievable. Yeah, Like,
where would these guys be without Jason Myers. He is
sixteen for his last sixteen, he's twenty for his last

(10:19):
twenty one.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
And you guys remember the miss.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
It was the game winner against the games from sixty
yards twenty three of his last twenty four and twenty
four of his last twenty.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Five in the last seven games.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
So, I mean, look, if the Seahawks get into a
situation where, let's say they got the ball first and
ten from the opponent's forty yard line and they're looking
at a fifty eight yard field goal to have to
win a playoff game on the road at Tampa Bay Philadelphia, whatever.
I'm not saying shut her down entirely, but I'm saying, hey,
you might want to think about not taking too much

(10:50):
of a risk here, because that guy can hit it
from fifty five.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
He can, and I'm fine with that.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
And to your point about what the Seahawks have or
have not showed offensively, I think You're exactly right. They
have now gone four consecutive weeks where they have not
had to show anything on offense. Clint Kubiak has got
a bevy of plays that he has put in since
the last Ram game that he hasn't run one time

(11:16):
in a football game, and we are going to see
them on Thursday night on that is exciting.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Well, I hope so. I think Thursday Night's going to
be nuts. I mean, guys, this is.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
The biggest regular season game since probably since twenty fifteen
or fourteen. I have to go back and look at
what they did those last couple of years. But I
know the fans are responding because ticket prices are jacked
up beyond belief to getting the house to sit two
hundred and thirty bucks to get in the door at
van Ue Kings.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Last time we were this good.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Home game, nobody went to the game because it was
twenty to twenty.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
It was twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
They were an eleven and four team against the Rams
and the tenants was zero.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well they had They had a game
in twenty fourteen at home again in San Francisco. They
were nine to four. They wanted to go seventeen and seven,
came back and beat the Rams a couple weeks later
to go twelve and four. First of all, guys, the
idea that you have an eleven and three football team,
I believe this is the first time that has happened

(12:17):
since twenty thirteen, if I'm not mistaken, because twenty twenty
they were ten and four, and they were ten and
four in twenty fourteen, and they were twelve and two
in twenty thirteen. So this is only the second time
in twelve seasons since they won the title that they've
been eleven and three. And I don't know if people
really realize that. And I don't know why that is.

(12:38):
I'm kind of on the same boat that it doesn't
really resonate like that until you say it. Maybe it's
just because they don't have all those big superstars and
that crazy locker room with all that charisma that we
were talking about in twenty thirteen, the guys with presidents,
you know, I.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Mean, there was a lot of swag on that team.
They were very loud.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
It's a great way to put at anders and this
team doesn't really have any of that.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
No, you know, you know, it's like it's like, I
know we hate them. It's like the Oklahoma City thunder
last year.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Don't bring that up, but it is. You'm trying to
thinking on just a second.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm just trying to think of the most the latest
championship caliber team that absolutely had zero person You couldn't
have thought of maybe a different exempt.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
You, okay, the one that brought up the comp. Okay,
So my I either bring up having a good time
over here, dad.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
So I either bring up a comp or I sit
here and go, well, I can't think of anybody.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Author than dot dot dog. You don't compare them at all.
You just keep your didn't your mother and father ever
tell you got nothing nice to say? Then don't say
anything's wrong with you. Jesus, may we been it for
fifteen minutes. I'm already going getting pissed off.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
The other thing is, if you guys, remember, have the
Seahawks ever gone to the Super Bowl not as a
number one seed? No, they have they ever not gone
to the Super Bowl as a number one seed. You
just asked the same thing, different things. Have they ever
won it and gone? They have never gone to the
Super They've never won, They've correct hold on, they've never
gone to the Super Bowl. You guys, you're not understanding

(14:10):
what I'm saying. Every year the Hawks have been a
number one seed.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
They've gone to the only times that That's.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
What I'm saying. For every year they've been been a
number one seed, which eventually I would hope that would change.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Eventually. Of course, it's hard, but the Super Bowl participants
are not always number one seats. We know that there's
been plenty of teams in the last thirty years that
have not been number one. It's like it's impossible, and
this team could do it for a couple of reasons.
Number one, because of their defense, which is the obvious one,
and then the fact that they play balls out of
the road. They're amazing on the road, and now they're

(14:43):
playing better at home. Maybe they're getting a bit of
a break at home. I get that with some of
these quarterbacks, they're facing whatever, but they are now all
of a sudden, they're six and two at Loomenfield.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Things are starting to change.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
It's just what's going to be too bad on Thursday
night is that if the Hawks win, they're gonna be
crowned the Super Bowl champions.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Yeah, if they lose, they're gonna be They're gonna be.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Frauds that cannot win the Super Bowl that cannot win,
and both narratives are incredibly flawed.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Who cares let them be that way?

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Maybe maybe maybe it motivates.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
It's one fun and yes, it's gonna be different between
the first and the fifth seed.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
So that's very very important.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Well that's pretty big, Yeah it is. But guys, here's
the thing. Maybe losing this game on Thursday. I'm already
trying to find a silver lining. If they do lose
the game, maybe it's gonna piss them off and motivate,
and maybe all that talk about them being done and
overrated and frauds and paper tigers, maybe it'll fire them up.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I mean, I'm kind of looking forward to.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Honestly, isn't there a part of you curious to see
what they do on Thursday?

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Against Stafford. Here's the last three quarterbacks they've seen at home.
Jacoby Prissett, Max Brozmer, and Philip Rivers. That's who they've
seen in their last three games. They saw CJ. Stroud
and they were good against him. On Monday Night football,
that was the night everybody was depressed of you because
of the Mariner loss. But there's a huge part of
me as just a even if I'm just a huge fan,

(16:06):
there's a casual observer in me that is really curious
to see how they step up and perform against Matt
Stafford because I thought the last game they had against
the Rams defensively was pretty damn very good. And I'm
taking again. Would you take twenty one right now?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (16:19):
I would.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
I would sign it for right now.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
And I think it's going to be interesting to see
how effective the Rams offense is going to be with
one wide receiver. Yeah, that's going to be really interesting.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Did I hear that Puka has also heard? He's struggling
with some stuff, but I think he plays. But let
me ask you guys this one thing. Do you guys
feel better kind of with the slight hiccup last weekend
or this past weekend against the Colts going into the
Rams game, It's like, oh, let's a wake up call,
but we still have to win better than if they
just completely boat race.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
I don't think how we feel is relevant at all.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
I have just hit.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
It doesn't mean squat, but but I mean, she's asking me,
do I still have as much confidence in them? To
win a championship or win just for Thursday. Oh yeah,
I feel the same same, nothing's changed.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Seud Payton's made the comment before he says, the best games,
My favorite practices to coach are when we play poorly
and win.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Those are the best ones because it didn't cost us.
But I can get in their butts to the next
three days.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
I feel the same way absolutely. I mean, when you
learn lessons and you do it in the victory. I
just don't know if the Hawks really I mean, what
lessons did they learn, Like Sam Darnold wasn't fumbling.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
The ball away all game long?

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Fine touchdowns, Yeah, but that's been a problem for a month.
That's been an issue for five weeks. We bring that
up every week, and we'll do it again today with
Hugh at four o'clock. They have not been a great
red zone team touchdown wise, and maybe they don't need
to be. Honestly, they're gonna eventually need to be.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
How do we know that with.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
This phenomenal defense they've got, do they really need I mean, Andrews,
I'm not saying you're wrong.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
If they play the Bills in the Super Bowl, they're
gonna need. Yes, but listen to what you just said.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Super they play in the Super Bowl, then they're gonna
need touchdowns. Okay, let's I'll take that opportunity right now
to find that out.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
I mean, how was the first.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
Ever game at home that we have won without a touchdown,
which is ever in fifty years.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
And the fact that you won a game without scoring
a touchdown and you found a way to still get
the w and stay paced with the Rams, I think
shows you how good this football team could potentially be.
They're not gonna get a running game. They're not gonna
be dynamite I think in the red zone. That's just
the way they are. These are things that we can

(18:31):
change over the offseason. They need their defense to continue
to be balls out. They need every week their defense,
in my opinion, should show up with the mentality that
their offense sucks. Yep, that point the way they should feel.
I'm not saying the offense does suck. I'm saying they
should act like that Hugh Millen, who does not suck either.
He'll join us at four. They'll fun with audio at

(18:51):
three forty five. A lot to get to between now
and five before Dolphins Pittsburgh on Monday Night football right
here on ninety three to three KJARFM, seventy eight yards
to Denzel Boston. I gotta tell you, I was on
the sideline, on the Husky sideline for that play and
it was going from my left to right.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Okay, So I.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Look around the players to see where the ball's going,
and I see what turned out to be Denzel, And
at first glance, it was like a fan had run
out onto the field because there was nobody else around him.
I was like, who the hell's that? Oh, that's Denzel Boston.
He was as wide open as you'll ever see a player. Yet,

(19:31):
how the hell, boys he state allowed that to happen
on Saturday night was unbelievable. But look, I mean, I
think locally, the narrative about this football team, I think
is going to be a lot different than the narrative
about it across the country and maybe even in the
Big Ten. Like all of us can sit around and say, wow,
look at what Jed Fish just did. He pasted the

(19:52):
Mountain West champion. He went nine to four after he
had no returning starters on offense. Two years ago, when
the whole roster got blown to hell, when Caitlin de
Moore took off for Alabama. He now goes into the
offseason if he stays here, which I think he's going to,
but we'll see. With a bunch of dudes back, including
now four or five offensive linemen. After the great news

(20:14):
on Gear and Hatchett came down during the pregame on Saturday,
there's a lot of cause to be excited about the
future of Husky football.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
But there was also a lot of cause to be
excited after.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
The Sun Bowl, after the Louisville game, and that didn't
really materialize the way some people were hoping. In the end.
It's pretty damn easy dick for me. The story of
the twenty twenty five Huskies. It's freaking simple. It's the
Wisconsin game. That's it. One game changed the entire narrative
on this football season.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yes, but we still wouldn't have probably wouldn't made the
playoffs even had known that game.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
But you would have been able to parlay it into
some big time hype for the Oregon You would have
been able to enjoy the CFP dream for three weeks.
That's right, going into Purdue, going into Ucla, going into Oregon,
and a lot of people would have stuck around to
see how the movie ended. I feel like what happened
after the Wisconsin game, It's like somebody went into a

(21:09):
party and backed up the toilet and everyone just went home.
That's right, Like, you know what this terrible we're taken off.
If they would have just found a way to flush
that thing and get that turn down the sewer, everyone
would have stuck around to see how the party ended.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
I just think this season is summed up in two
words for me, expectations met.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
They were not exceeded, they were not failed.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
They did exactly what we predicted or hoped reasonably that
they would accomplish, and that would be go eight and four.
They probably lost the four games we thought at the
beginning of the season they were going to lose anyway, Michigan, Ohio, State, Oregon,
and then if you looked at the toughest of the
other four games at the beginning of the season, you
probably said it camp Randall, Now what Wisconsin was much

(21:57):
worse than we thought they were going to be. So
that was a really appointing loss. As far as the
Bowl game, I mean, was it meaningless? Yes, The LA
Bowl is a meaningless ballgame. But at least I thought
the timing of the LA Bowl was awesome. It was
a solitary bowl game at five pm Pacific, eight pm
Eastern on ABC.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
I mean that's a better time slot than seventy five
percent of these ball games that are played at eleven
am on ESPN two.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Yeah. I just think, again, not to be repetitive, but
I've only got so many decent thoughts in my head.
I just think that this is going to resonate way
different here than it will across the country. Nobody across
the country gives a damn that UDUB is nine and four.
Nobody cares, you know, but here locally, and again, how
much does that really mean? I don't know. That's up
to you to figure out. I think Jed Fish has

(22:44):
done a pretty admirable job. I think he took over
a disaster of a roster. He had fifty whatever new
players in year number one and sort to go nine
to four in the second year, I think is pretty admirable.
But I also understand and feel people that say things like,
all right, where's the signature win. It's not there in
two years, it's not there. I mean, if beating the

(23:06):
Mountain West champions is the best you got, you need more.
And now I think going into year three, if he stays,
which again I think he's going to, I will just
repeat what I said the last two weeks. The last week,
I think Michigan is going to have to go pretty
far down their list before they offer Jetfish the job.
And maybe they'll get there, who knows. I mean, we're
sitting here. When did the shrun more thing come down?

(23:27):
What day was that, like, last Monday or Tuesday or whatever?
Because I was off, I think when it came down,
and we're still sitting here a week later, and they
got no coach, right, which means they're going far down
their list. The longer this goes, you never know, man, right,
So anything's possible for anyone to sit here and say
there's no chance, there's no way. I think that's totally
naive to think there's no way that happens. But if

(23:49):
he does come back, they got a good team. They
got a good team on paper, they got a good
team talent wise, they got a good team stats wise,
they got a good coaching staff. They got a great
defensive coordinator. Next year, I think all of the Okay,
let's look at this in context, thing gets tossed out
the window. Now it's time to win some damn games
and beat some good teams.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I mean for me, I know it's hard to say this,
but for me, it's kind of CFP or BUS next year, right,
I mean it's year number three, your quarterbacks in his
third year as a starter. You got almost everybody back
on both sides of the ball, and you were pretty
close to the elite teams that you played this year.
There is no reason why this team shouldn't go ten

(24:29):
and two next year, get at least one signature win
and qualify for the CFP.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
They are that talented.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Well, the only question is how good is the Big Ten? Right?
How deep is the Big Ten going to be? Because
let's face it, this year it was really about two
teams Ohio State and Indiana, right, that was it, right?
I mean, yeah, you had a couple teams that were okay,
but this was not a great Big Ten year the
way they've had in years past.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
You and I have always said this is probably going
to be.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
Four or five teams every year in the Big Ten
that could make the CFP, and it was just really
Ohio State and Indi. So you know, that's kind of
one of the disappointments. I mean, and Oregon, I mean,
you get it, but this was not a very deep
Big Ten and it might be different next year. I
don't know. I have no idea what next year is
Big ten is going to look like you had a

(25:15):
chance to be maybe that fourth best team in the
Big Ten and maybe make the CFP this year. And
who knows if nine and three or eight and four
will be good enough to be the fourth best team
in the Big Ten in a year from now. I
think if you're going to be a playoff team every year,
if you want to be a playoff team, Dick, you
should be thinking about winning ten games, absolutely double digit win,

(25:35):
no question. So is this a ten win football team
on paper? Well, it depends on what the rest of
their schedule looks.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Like and the rest of this I mean, we know,
we think we know what the tough games are going
to be, right, Indiana appears to be their toughest home
game there, right yere Yeah?

Speaker 1 (25:48):
And then on the RUOA Minnesota Penn State at home, yes,
and then Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Perdue, USC so.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
Oregon, USC.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
I mean, there's your three games, right, you got to
win if you can take take care of business and
all the other games, which you should be touchdown or
more favorites in all the other games, which they didn't
do at Wisconsin this year. But if you do it
next year, can you get me one of the three
big games?

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Well, I'm asking Jed Fish to stay one more year
and then you can do whatever the hell you want.
I agree, I agree, honestly, whatever, just stick around form
take a playoffs. You know, you know, you know my
take on this guy. I think he's short timers since
the start, you know. I mean, we'll see if I'm
right or wrong, but I never thought he was going
to be here a long time. If he can be

(26:33):
here three years, and not just the three years, but
because how many guys they have back, he takes off,
a lot of guys will leave and we're going to
be back in the same situation as we were potentially
a couple of years ago when Caitlyn de Moore took off.
So he's got to come back for year three. Come
back for year three, coach this team one more time,
win ten games, make your CFP, get your resume builder,

(26:55):
and then take off. Bring them on back, Bring all
Mohammed Washington, four or five Lineman, bring that secondary back,
Manu to Buddha, bring them all back and see what
happens in year three and then bolt. So that's what
I'm asking for, Dick, is one more year out of
this guy and then do whatever the hell you want,
a little fun with audio and then Humellan joins at
four on ninety three three kJ RFM.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
It's now time for Sufday in Dick's Fun with Audio.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy mister Garoppolo.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Now let's have some fun with audio.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Humellan will join coming up clown next segment. Right now
they a little fun with audio slash Hay did you
hear that? Before we get to heally his thoughts on
the Hawks, the Dogs, the Holespiel Football, Dolphin Steelers coming
up five o'clock from snowy Pittsburgh, kickoff five point fifteen
here on KJR. All right, here we go, Hey, Dick,
did you happen to hear that? It's that? Dick. Let's

(27:50):
start with number one. We'll save number two maybe for
tomorrow after they're thirty one nothing loss against the Eagles yesterday.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
To go to two and twelve.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Raiders head coach was asked about the idea going into
the year that the Raider team was supposed to be
competitive and why they're not with this team where they
are right now. What do you what do you think
that is going on?

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Because you didn't think this is where they would be.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Well, I would never think.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
I would never think we would have What would I
base that thought on that we would be really fighting
for our life here? I had nothing but but wins
and background in history and all of that to set
our expectations and to maintain the standards that we work by.
And that's what we're doing. We're still doing it. We're
still practicing hard, we're still working hard, we're still studying hard.
The guys are giving good effort. They're in the weight room,
they're they're they're they're fighting their tails. Are the only

(28:41):
good thing that happened to being anybody heard today, you know.
But they're they're doing all we're asking them, and this
is this is the result of it against the World
champs last year, who maybe weren't playing quite like that
for a month here or whatever, but they looked like it.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Today.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
They look like a great team.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Today. Are in the box score from yesterday's game.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
They really giving.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
I mean, here are their last five losses. Lost by
thirty one, lost by seven, loss by seventeen, lost by fourteen,
loss by seventeen. They have lost by double digits in
four of the five games.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Did you see the block score? Yeah, they had like
eighty something yards.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
They had hold seventy five yards. They averaged one point
eight yards per play. Okay, they would have to run
six plays to get a first down. If it was
sixth in goal, they'd be Okay. They got out gained
three eighty seven to seventy five. I mean, that is unbelievable.
They threw for sixty four yards and ran for thirty

(29:42):
five more, Like I've never I don't know if I've
ever seen that in an NFL football game. A team
held just seventy five yards of offense. So I think
the idea to introduce, at least the idea that Pete
Carroll's team is not playing hard is totally fair. You
see numbers like that, you're like, what the hell? Man? So,
I don't know, I mean, I thought for sure he'd
get a second year. I don't know if I'm convinced anymore. Man, Uh,

(30:05):
it's to me. Anything's on the table for him down there.
All right, Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?
What that? Dick and the Florida seven A State championship game.
Lake Mary was down by six to Varol Beach with
eight seconds left, and heaved up a Hail Mary for
one last shot at a state title.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Here's what that call sounded like.

Speaker 7 (30:25):
In the shotgun eight seconds to go in the game,
Robs struck back to pass.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
This would be the final play of the game.

Speaker 7 (30:30):
Rubs four three two one bark penalty, final play to
the five, and he's flocked.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Down at the two yard line. No, he's done.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
He's in the.

Speaker 8 (30:44):
Goodness it all to the left side and in the
downton goodness play just me, oh mine?

Speaker 1 (30:57):
So it's down like.

Speaker 7 (30:59):
Mary, Lake Bry's a point after away from the seven
day state championship.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
That is awesome.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
I think it was missing school radio guy or is
that like some old dude doing the game?

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Sounds like a high school someone.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Needs to just pull his mic away from his mouth
just a little bit and we'll be okay.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
All he was missing was the boom goes to dynamite.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Whatever of that guy?

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Miss Whatever happened to that dude?

Speaker 1 (31:23):
What's seed? Do you have, like any early tapes of
like calling play by play? Yeah? Yeah, back before your
voice broke I had.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
I'm sure I've got state championships from the high you know,
the high school state championships went not doing the radio
station here for when I was like twenty three, I
was probably doing the nineteen ninety eight state championship.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
I got a tape of me calling a Seattle prep
game when I was twenty two years old, and it
sounds like I was at my bar mitzvah.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Man.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
We should do that.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
We should bring out some of those old I don't
know how we'd get the audio. Got to get a
cassette deck and stick into our digital system.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
Here, hold a microphone up to the speaker.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
I think people would love to hear embarrass ourselves put
out on my notes twenty years old.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
That's a save it for the summer. Yep, this is
after football season's overtime. That's right?

Speaker 7 (32:09):
All right?

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that? What's that? Dick?
After the game against the Hawks on Sunday, Philip Rivers
the grandfather, old man Rivers, spoke and reflected about how
competing in the NFL at his age can inspire others.

Speaker 6 (32:23):
I think maybe, uh, you know, maybe maybe it will
I don't know, inspire or teach, you know, to you
not to run or be scared of what may or
may not happen, you know, hopefully, you know. Certainly I
think of my sons and those ballplayers you know that
I'm in charge of at the school that they'll say, look, crap,
coach one scared, you know what I mean. It's like, shoot,

(32:45):
sometimes you uh, there is doubt and it's real.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
And you uh again, you can, you can.

Speaker 6 (32:51):
The guaranteed safe that is to is to go home
or to not go for it, and the other one
is shoot, let's see what happens, uh, you know. And
so yeah, I hope that in that sense that it
can it can be a positive to some young boys,
you know, or young people.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
I just cannot wait until the next forty four year
old quarterback shows up at some random NFL practice facility
and they ask him, what are you doing here? I'm
here to play quarterback. I don't want to give up
my dream. Can somebody arrest this guy? Please, like, we're
not going to see this again. We're not going to
see we might see a forty four year old, but
we're not going to see a forty four year old
that hasn't played in five years. I don't think so

(33:28):
that second part is what does it right? Because a
lot of guys play into their mid forties. But to
wait five years and then go do it? Andy?

Speaker 3 (33:37):
I mean, man, he was putting.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
It was everything he had to get those balls in
the air. Everything. I mean he was pushing everything behind
it to get those balls up in the air. And
I tell you what, I'm watching the game yesterday and
it kind of finally hit me who he looked like.
Because he's put a couple of pounds on you notice
that he looks like Sebastian Janetkowski playing quarterback. It's like seapass,

(33:59):
So like, what the hell that?

Speaker 3 (34:01):
I don't think I'll have.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
The one player I won't get out of my mind
is when he went down on his knee and then
got back up and tried to run. I mean, that's
the one that's like, oh my gosh, that was the
most unathletic quarterback move I have.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Seen in a long long time.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yeah, I mean look good for him. I mean, the
guy was one defensive stand away from winning the game.
How nuts would that have been? How big of a
story would that have been? And now he's going to
be on Monday Night Football coming up next Monday.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
They'll get some ratings, they'll get some ratings.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
But I mean for the people that think that he
played a good game, to quote the great Humillan this morning,
and I'll read it verbatim, he did not have a
good game or a decent game.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
He just avoided calamity. Quote today.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
I think you, guys, I think honestly, and I know
what you're doing, and I get it. I think for
his for the context of what he was asked to do,
that was pretty freaking impressive. So you want to go
on the air, I'm not saying you or anybody and
say he played poorly, Well, what do you expect hundred
yards and four touchdowns. The guy's forty four hasn't played
in five years. The fact that he went eighteen for

(35:07):
twenty seven with a touchdown and threw one pick and
took one sack in that game. Can we not look
at context and say that that is unbelievable? Like are
you kidding me? He just did that. How many guys
could even stand up and play a game?

Speaker 4 (35:23):
He also taking five years old, though he's always been
in this.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
Story of course, well he is. I want to motivate people.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
He is famously known for being a big time smack talk.
Oh yeah right, going back to his charger days, you
would talk a lot of smacks. So all the way
he did it was pretty frigging were meeting you. He's
forty four, he's your grandfather again. I think it's really
impressive what he did. You want to piss on the
guy and talk about how he's stunk. He's forty fricking
four and he hasn't taken a snap in five years.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
That's all you got to know.
