Choose chill, baby.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Let's just explaining it to you, hot head.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
All right, college football playoff about to begin Oklahoma Alabama.
I'll get huge thoughts on that game in a second.
But the big one out of here, baby, thirty eight
thirty seven improbable winning by the Seahawks over the Rams
yesterday twelve and three control their own destiny for the
number one seed in the NFC. Linebacker Derek Call suspended
one game for stepping on a leg of ramsguard Kevin
(00:57):
Dodson last night. He left the game with an eighth
injury and did not return. Cracking last night, Oh yeah, yey,
what is going on? Four and two, four to two, Los,
excuse me? To the Flames yesterday, to boys now twelve,
fourteen and six, one, nine and one and their last eleven.
They'll be at San Jose tomorrow six thirty pre game,
seven o'clock face off right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
(01:20):
And tonight Tony and Jason the battle you've all been
waiting for, you Dub and the RedHawks. That'll you Climate
Pledge Arena tonight eight thirty tip off, eight o'clock pregame
with Tony and Jason right here on ninety three three
KJR FM. All right, Hugh Millan, he joins us here
on the radio show. Here we before they officially kick
(01:42):
off in Norman, Oklahoma. How about a thought on this
Alabama Oklahoma game. And I'm still seeing reports from people
that are saying that man Caitlin de Boor is still
very much in the mix for the Michigan jobs. So
I mean, this is a big one tonight because if Michigan,
excuse me, if Alabama loose. Is this game the Michigan
(02:02):
chatter is going to start right back up tomorrow morning.
If they win the game and they look good doing it,
maybe more and more people will want Kitlin to Moore
to be the next coach of the Michigan Wolverine. So
what do you make of the dominoes that might start
to fall during and after this game tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Well, I think that Klein's comments where he says, hey,
I'm absolutely committed. I'm paraphrasing to Alabama. I mean, he
went above and beyond the perfunctory. I think Jed Fish
has done the perfunctory, and I and and I don't
disparage him for that whatsoever. I think that you know,
he just kind of says, hey, I love Washington, and
(02:41):
and you know he's basically I'm I'm where my feet are,
and my feet right now are in Seattle, and it's
you know, December twenty twenty five, so that's where my
feet are going to be. That's where my focus is
going to be. He more or less has given that message.
Kailan Warr went a good bit beyond that, and I
think if he were to go to Michigan, you know,
(03:02):
it'd be a bad look based when you juxtaposed his
comments from a couple of weeks ago. If he were
to go to Michigan now, I think there'd be some
logic behind it on probably and perhaps all three parties, Michigan, Alabama,
and Kaitlin. But I'm certainly intrigued by by this game.
(03:24):
The turnovers. I mean, Ty Simpson, he was a guy
that I mean, Dave, you got a Heisman vote. We
were we were sitting there thinking our votes are gonna
you know, Ty Simpson is going to be a real
you know, there's a point if if you had to
vote at the end of October, there's an argument that
he was number one after having you know, beat four
straight ranked teams in the secbody he had ever done that.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
How about the other guy? How about Matier? He was
also he was also.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
The favorite one point after September, you know, before he
got hurt. So but then the big turnovers, that's where
kind of things unraveled for Simpson was right there in
that Oklahoma game. But that that's a tough defense. I
think the problem for Bama is I've never seen more
uh unimpressive running backs for Alabama in decades. Wow, that
(04:14):
bam whatever. I mean. I'm used to my close my
eyes and I say, what do I envision up? Alabama
running back has just got elusiveness and burst and strength.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
John Alexander right, yeah yeah, ba Starborough blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah yeah and uh mark Ingram. I mean they they've
they've got a long history of great backs, and I
think that he saddled with a very subpar group of
running backs. Offensive line I think is just meant when
it comes to run blocking. So so that offense has
got one hand tied behind their back. Yeah, because they
(04:50):
can't run the football.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Well it's not bam, it's jam Miller by the way
that you're thinking about, right, And.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
What if he was more elusive, I'd get into his name.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Run Yeah, you know what, earn your name son until
that'll call you whatever that hell I want.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
But they've gone on this.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
They've gone from twenty two hundred and sixty yards to
just over fifteen hundred from twenty twenty four to twenty
twenty five. And the biggest reason is Jalen Milroe's not there. Right,
they don't got a quarterback that's running for eight hundred yards.
And you know, I know this really does not have
a lot to do with last night's game. But you know,
Dick and I talked about this in the pregame show
(05:25):
that man, when they drafted Jalen Milroe, Okay, fine, it's
a it's a project, whatever. But when they've got a
fourth and inches from their own thirty five yard line,
well they go to Jalen Milroe and just let him
pick up that first down. And I said yesterday pregame
to Dick Got it would have been great if Jalen
Milroe could have developed. I mean, he's playing no role
on this football team. He's inactive every single week. They're
(05:48):
not even talking about using him in short yarded situations.
Are you a little bit surprised? Slash disappointed that the
Seahawks have not been able to turn Jalen Milroe into
anything useful for them.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I thought he'd provide more of an impact. Last time
we saw him was against Tampa Bay on that old
school speed option that was just ill fated. He get
the fumbles. So I think that the if you ask
me right now, what makes the most sense most what
makes the most sense is a round draft time trade
him because you've got a twenty eight year twenty eight
(06:22):
year old quarterback. I just I can't. He's on a
four year contract right because he's a third round draft pick, correct.
I just can't close my eyes and envision how he
would be an impactful player. I think Sam Darnold is
going to be the seat quarterback for another five or
six years. Now. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe he has a
he really vaults in his development as an NFL quarterback.
(06:45):
But I don't know. If you if you could recover
a third round draft pick for him, wow, maybe a
fourth rounder. I mean he gave up a fourth and
a fifth for she, you know, she'd I don't know,
what does that strike you as odd to think of
trading him?
Speaker 5 (07:02):
Is he ever going to be the quarterback? I don't
think so.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
But is it worth hanging on to him to have
that fourth down toy that we talked about. I mean
they've basically replaced that potential with the what the barner
you know, yeah right, Jay Barner, Tush push, whatever the
hell you want to call that. I mean they're doing
kind of what we wanted them to do and maybe
extend drives. They're just doing it with their tight end.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Well, if if somebody gave you a third round or
would you, as a Seahawks fan, want to see that
or would you rather keep him and just try and
develop them over You only get three more seasons with
them right in your contract? No, Ay, how is he
going to develop? Yeah? I mean is he ever going
to unsee Sam Darnold? Yeah, you don't play you know,
(07:46):
a few games in the preseason. I don't know. It's
I can't really see a clear path for him being
an impactful player for the Seahawks now. Now I could
describe one and like, I'm not blind that you know, Okay,
Sam Donald gets hurting in two years, the guy's the MVP.
Like I can, I can, I can design scenarios, but
(08:07):
how likely are they?
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Yeah, it's a great question, man, you know.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
I mean, I just I don't think it's fair for
you in my emotional state right now, to put me
on the spot like that and demand.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
About your emotional state. Describe what do you mean?
Speaker 5 (08:21):
I think that the Seahawks are going to play in
the super Bowl is what I think. And I will
tell you this.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
I will tell you this you right now that you
know better than anybody because you've covered a lot of
these with us. Obviously, You don't just wait until the
Seahawks win the NFC Championship as a radio station in
Seattle or any city in America to decide you want
to send your crew to the Super Bowl. That's not
how that works. You need to be prepared for this stuff.
(08:51):
There's planning that goes into it. Jess will tell you
right weeks and months of planning. Of course, Credential applications
are being called for right now. Tells are being booked.
We got to get deposits, we got to get plane
flights booked, all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
You don't just wait until two.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Weeks before the game to then email your staff on
a Sunday night and say, okay, guys, here's the deal.
The Hawks have won the NFC Championship. Let's meet tomorrow
and talk about what we want to do for the
Super Bowl. That's not how that works. That planning needs
to begin now. You have to be prepared for something
like this, And Huey, I'm telling you planning is already
(09:26):
beginning in the office here at KJAR Because you got
no choice. You have to plan for that right now.
So the fact that we are sitting here on the
nineteenth of December six days before Christmas in Mike McDonald's
second year, and we are talking about planning for the
Super Bowl. I think whatever timeline you had envisioned for
(09:48):
Mike McDonald, it's been sped up exponentially.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, yeah, at least a year, right, yes, And that's
one of the reasons why the booing kind of bothered
me last night. It's like, wait a minute, so McVeigh,
how long has he been in with the Rams? Seven years?
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Right?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
You know?
Speaker 5 (10:03):
No, no, no longer? Yeah, eight years, maybe twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
You know that's a mature program. Isn't that a Dick
beardcer program?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
And and here you got quarterback in the year one
who's he's almost ten years younger than staff.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
So even if if, if you know, the lug Nuts
come off of this thing, and for twenty twenty five,
you're in a sending football team, much more so than
the Rams, right right, I mean they've got some youth,
but when their quarterback steps down, who's their quarterback? Right?
You know Stet's had met.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
It, isn't it Jimmy Garoppolo.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
We're up.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Okay, well does that strike fearing you? I mean they're
gonna have a big downgrade. So so if if Darnold
you know, can be your guy for five or six years,
and with the youth of this defense, I just think,
if you're graphing right now, the the incline on the
Seahawks is steeper than the Ram and they got some
young guys. I'm not you know, Less Need has done
a hell of a job. I don't want to paint
(11:04):
the Rams as the over the hill gang. You know
the Redskins were, you know, fifty years ago. They they've
done a nice job. When when we all thought that
they they kind of said, to hell with the future,
let's just you know, put all our chips in to
win the Super Bowl. In twenty twenty one, well somehow
they managed to, you know, to keep excelling, and so
(11:28):
credit Less Need for all of that.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Yeah, the Rams had that one down year.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
I think it was at the year immediately after they
won the title where they kind of had took a
step back and then really just kind of all of
a sudden reset and we're able to come a good
work yeah from that. But I don't know, man, I
mean I feel like, you know, look, the parody in
the NFC is amazing.
Speaker 7 (11:45):
You know.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
I mean, obviously the Hawks could not get there and
we lose a conference championship or a divisional game whatever.
I mean, hell, at this point they could even be
a wild card team if things don't go well in
the next couple of weeks for them and the San
Francisco game, I mean, look, them losing that game would
not stun me at all, not at all, right, I mean,
you go down there and you have, you know, the
(12:07):
weight of the world on your back. If you're Sam
Donald looking for the number one seed, maybe the defense
doesn't show up.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
I mean, anything's possible on one day in the NFL,
any given Sunday.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Well, they can't say that Sam Donald hasn't won the
big one.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Well they can say they can say they say he
hasn't won a big playoff game because he's only played
in one playoff game and he lost, which is.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
A little bit sure.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
But and Hugh, I don't know if you brought this
upper us for this. I mean, my brain may be
imagining things. I don't know what you did. A couple
of segments ago. I just went back and looked. Since
the start of last season, quarterback win lost records, passer rating, touchdowns, picks,
total yards, whatever. Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Matt Stafford, Jordan Love,
(12:55):
Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes are the three six
eight quarterbacks I looked at along with Sam and Sam
Darnold's won more games than any of them since the
start of last year.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Well, I'll tell you what at the commercial break, I
will come back at the beginning of the next segment
and I'll tell exactly what would you what is it
from last last beginning of last season?
Speaker 4 (13:20):
How many wins? Okay, why can't anyway, No, I know
how many wins it is. Sam's got twenty six Mahomes No, no.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
No, no, I'll tell you I can. I can just
for everybody can compare him to the entire league.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Well, we do have we do have a little fun
with audio. So you want to do it right now?
I can to put you on a hold and you
can do it right now. We can take a break.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Oh you got a fun with audio? Okay, give me
all right, give me a second. I'll get it.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
And I'm just curious to know account it because I
know that with Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Goff, Dak,
Stafford Love. He's got more wins than any of those guys.
He's got a pass the rating of one hundred and
one point seven. Mahomes is at ninety one point seven,
Dak is at ninety four, Loves at ninety nine, Stafford's
at one oh two point nine.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I mean, the numbers say that, you know, Sam.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Donald's been among the better quarterbacks in the NFL, if
not the best quarterbacks in the NFL since Week number one.
But for some reason, and maybe it's because all those
other guys for the most part, have done it, there's
this group of people that are just waiting and waiting
and waiting to pounce on him if things don't go
well in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
He's got to win a playoff game.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
And I think it shows you how good he's been
now in the regular season that now the regular season
is not good enough anymore, Hugh. For Sam Darnald right now,
it's about the playoffs. Now he's into a much more
elite category of quarterbacks that are judged on wins and
losses come January in February, and just the fact that
(14:43):
he's even in that category of quarterback shows you how
far this fricking guy has come and how good he is?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Yeah? Well he I think he's won What did I say?
He's won seventy seven percent of his games? Right in
his last thirty nine starts.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
He's twenty six and six in his last thirty four games.
That's seventy six percent.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Yeah, seventy we'll save six and change.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Right, that's just going back to week one of last
year right now?
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Is that counting the playoff?
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Now?
Speaker 5 (15:17):
No? Nope, no regular season?
Speaker 1 (15:20):
All right? All right, okay, uh, well, you told me
you're going to go in the what'd you say? Fun
with audio? You want to take a break? He actually
kick a We can.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Do it next segment. Let's do it next segon.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
We're seeing my, we're seeing my my multitask, I got it.
There's a few things that I got to get to
here to be able to filter. I want to give
accurate information.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Let's do this, all right, Let's do this.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
We'll get a break, we'll come back next segment, and
we'll spend a couple of minutes on this and just
kind of figure out where Sam Darnold actually sits compared
to other quarterbacks in the NFL, and then we'll get
to a little fun with audio coming up on ninety
three three kJ RFM.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
This is Duke of duke Seafood and this hour is
brought to you by Duke's Seafood. Why don't you make
it a Duke's night tonight. Reserve your table today at
Dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Softy and Dick on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
All right, maybe back on that Friday night Dick is
out humuling for Dick today.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Yes, it's true, this man has no Dick.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Because we continue until seven o'clock tonight. Lindsey Theory from ESPN.
We'll join us next second. Give us kind of a
RAMS perspective on.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Last night's disaster. From a RAMS perspective.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
From the hawk's perspective, it was great, little fun with
audio coming up in a second. But Hugh, real quick,
where does Sam Darnold sit compared to his peers and
wins and losses in the last maybe year and a half,
couple of years or so?
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Just go two years, twenty four and twenty five. Do
you want counting playoffs or not?
Speaker 5 (16:58):
You tell me.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Throw it all at me, baby, matter are you gonna
get the same answer. All right, I'll go uh with playoffs.
Number five is Pat Mahomes. Number four is Jery Goff.
Number three is Josh Allen. Number two is Jalen Hurts.
Number one is Sam Donald.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
Wow, how about that?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
And you want to go exclude the playoffs just regular season? Uh?
Bo Nicks number five? Then Jalen Hurts four, Jerry Goff three,
Josh Allen two, Sam Donald won. When I say, come on,
first year with the first year coordinator, I just I
(17:38):
thought we were a little premature with the bullying. I
don't know, does anybody else agree? Can we get textee?
Speaker 8 (17:47):
No?
Speaker 5 (17:47):
I think I think some folks would agree with you.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I think they were just so people were just so
shocked by the defense getting shoved around the way they were.
I mean, and and the offense too. I mean, you
saw the game was be it could be anything, right.
There was a point in time in that game where
the Hawks just look like they didn't even belong on
the field with the Rams yesterday.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Yeah right, yeah, true.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
So all right, let's get to it a little fun
with audio slash hated you hear that right now?
Speaker 5 (18:15):
It's now time for something in Dig's fun with audio.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy, mister garoppolo.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Now let's have some fun with audio.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
All right, We're gonna bounce around a little bit here,
Jess min So hang on tight, a little fun with audio.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Slash hat. Did you hear that? Hey, Hugh, did you
happen to hear that?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Let's start with number two, Jess, if we can, okay,
During the Flyers game the other night, the Flyers radio
crew thought they were in a commercial break in Philly's
game against the Sabers, Well, broadcaster Timmy Saunders.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Was caught on a very very hot microphone.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Now they're gonna take the TV time out, we'll take
it as well. Seven gone in the thirdies three two
Buffalo in the Philadelphia Flyers broadcast network.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
While you're down there, would you mind me?
Speaker 3 (19:17):
I think we're still in the air, tim.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Still or are we? What the hell was the so?
I mean, Jess, you tell us you've been a TV producer?
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Is that on the broadcaster or is that on the
producer of that television both?
Speaker 8 (19:39):
Because we all know that every mic is a hot mic, right,
but that's also the producer did not go to break,
nor did they get in their ear and say, hey, guys,
we didn't go to break? That is uh, that is
pretty And also what I want to know is who
is he referencing?
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I don't know, maybe a sideline reporter.
Speaker 8 (19:57):
It was just so bizarre and I'm like all the
things to say off air. Off air we say, wow,
that's a terrible drive.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
I imagineful honestly, Like, I don't know you if you've
noticed this or not, but we have a female in
the booth today. Obviously if we go to a break
and I looked at just and said, hey, would you
mind don't get me during the break.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
About well, are we all on the same page? Were
you assuming the same word was used?
Speaker 6 (20:29):
Yes? We know?
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Well yeah, because we know the work. We know the work,
just assume yeah, no, did we edit that or was
that you did?
Speaker 6 (20:39):
It?
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Was?
Speaker 5 (20:40):
It was live?
Speaker 8 (20:41):
And I heard the words and I yelled because I
couldn't believe that.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Right, but it was their work obviously, right or b.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
That's what I thought.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Blowing in the wind, got it?
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Got you bubbles? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (20:55):
All right? Well lesson for everybody?
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Does he have a yeah?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Send for two games? Gotcha? Gotcha?
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Lesson for everybody, man, Just what every mic is a
hot mic cue?
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Just so you know, all right, just keep that in mind.
All right, It'll be at the.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
End of your career. I'm just telling you right now,
would you shut up? No, It's not gonna be the
end of my career. I've told you what's gonna happen
to me. I'm gonna have a stroke on the air
and die. That's what's gonna happen on the air. We
are Brown, Hey, Dick, Dick's not here?
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (21:28):
You did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 1 (21:29):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 5 (21:30):
All right, let's go with how about number three?
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (21:34):
The Amazon Prime set last night. Got a visit from
fan favorite Marshawn Lynch yesterday and he certainly has not
changed at all.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
I like going deep this game over the top, Marshall.
Let me tell you.
Speaker 7 (21:48):
Something that was a whole lot of words to say
a lot of nothing.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
All you got to do is get going and you
handle all that. You understand what I'm saying to him.
Let me ask you were you and robbery got you
got a robbery game?
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Memory?
Speaker 1 (22:01):
You said a rivalry or a property is?
Speaker 5 (22:13):
I know, man, I'm not goin to be here, But
I don't know you boil, you know, like this.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
I don't see a lot of two phones in the stunt.
Oh that's what that is.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
The new guys go right over there.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
I oh, they're going two phones?
Speaker 5 (22:35):
All right, there we go. Wow, what's your favorite rivalry?
Speaker 1 (22:39):
I watched Robbery. I don't know. Look, Sean Marshaun is
one of my favorite Seattle athletes. Yes, you know, I
think the colorful nature's personality. I mean, I feel like, uh,
if there's a term called street cred, I feel like
I'm watching a living personification of streak.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Yes, yes, he's cool.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
He was the rate running back after Shawn Alexander. The toughness,
you know how I feel about that. So I'm I'm
loving everything. I watched that live and I was just like, man,
if you're gonna if you're gonna be off color and
you're gonna be offending, at least be funny. Yeah, And
I don't know, that was one of the maybe the
first time where it didn't really work right marsh.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Well, I didn't.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
I didn't hear it live because I was at the
game obviously, until I left in the fourth quarter went
to Jimmy's. But I I think it's great for Amazon
because that's one thing that Amazon can do that other
networks can't, Like Fox can't do that, ABC can't do that,
CBS can't do that, and NBC can't do that because
they're all over the air, right, they got to play
by the rules of the FCC. But Amazon can absolutely
(23:49):
get away with that because they're being streamed. And I
heard somebody say last night, and I'll be the end
of mars Sean on Amazon?
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Why put him back on?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
But they beaped it. They beaped him. Yeah, but they did.
Did they bleep him or did we bleep him? They
believe they did? Gotcha?
Speaker 5 (24:05):
Gotcha?
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Gotcha? So was there a seven second delay?
Speaker 5 (24:08):
They must be, Yes, they've got to be.
Speaker 8 (24:10):
I was wondering if it was recorded or live, and
that is some really dang fine live bleeping correct.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
If it is live, that's amazing. But I would just
say let it roll. You're on the internet, do whatever
you want.
Speaker 5 (24:22):
What the hell I don't know?
Speaker 1 (24:23):
All right?
Speaker 5 (24:23):
Uh hey here, did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 1 (24:25):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Let's go with how about five jess Al Michael's introducing
Rams Kicker Harrison mevs.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
Imagine growing up with that name.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
By the way, Harrison mevs to the field last night
with a chance to break the thirty thirty tie late
in the fourth quarter, could have been an announcer Jinx.
Speaker 7 (24:44):
Put the pressure on fourth down and eight and here
comes the kickers. So here we go from forty eight
yards away. He gave the Rams to lead and he
has been no good if tagulous, heading to be good.
Put it drifted to the right and the two of
(25:06):
seven the game remains hide.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
What do you make of al Michaels and his enthusiasm
on his calls, because you know he's never been an
over the top enthusiastic guy, very cerebral broadcaster. I think
we all know that about him. I feel like it's
getting worse though.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
By the way, with him, what do you think?
Speaker 1 (25:24):
My opinion is, he's clearly a Hall of Famer, He's
a mount Rushmore of football play by play. I think
he's well past his prime. I think that he needs
a prodding. I think that the energy, uh yeah, I
when I think of what Sean McDonough would have done
with that game last night, right, just a perfect intonation
(25:45):
and the intensity it would have, it would have pulled
you in twofold compared to well where al Michaels is is,
you know, pushing eighty right, Yes, yeah, you know, I
think it's just flat. And I think Herbstreet likes college
foot all more than pro that's obvious.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Yeah, I think together they just it seems like they're
just punching a car.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
And they're great at what they do, right right, They're great,
but they're just not great together on Pro football on
Thursday nights.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Well, I do I do wonder if now Alice is
just fighting back, just saying, man, you guys think I'm
too mellow, just watch this, right, and now he's just
doing his own thing just to piss people off.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Man.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
So I'm with you. He's phenomenal. He's a Hall of Famer,
like you said, one of the best ever. But it
might be time to step aside and let somebody else
take over. All right, here, we're gonna get Lindsey Theory
on the air with us from ESPN. More with Humilan
as well, coming up in the six pm hour right
here on ninety three three KJRFM.

Reserve your table today at dukeseafood dot com. Now back
to Softy and Dick on Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
All right back here on a Friday night, Right here
on ninety three three kay JRFM. Update from the first
round of the CFP. Oklahoma leads Alabama ten to nothing.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Center's just got a.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Fifty one yard field goal and Oklahoma is up ten
zip out gaining Alabama one hundred and eighteen to five
in the first quarter of that game. Kind of sounds
a little bit like the way the first quarter of
the Seahawks Ram game was going in some ways when
the defense was just getting run over by the Ram offense.
Time of possession was out of whack. But here we
(27:45):
are where the Hawks getting the win last night.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Lindsay theory.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Our friend from ESPN, frankly has nothing better to do
on a Friday night than come on the air and
talk to us, So she's back with us right here
on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
How are you well, It's either talk to you guys
get screamed at by my toddlers. So I'm choosing to
talk with you, Softie, I'm exhausted. I was telling Justson,
I feel like I'm hungover, and yet I had not
a sip of alcohol yesterday. I mean, that was just
so wild last night.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Yeah, I'm I'm totally with you on all that just
emotionally drained from yesterday's game.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
And I had no alcohol either, by.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
The way, Okay, but just I mean put that thing
into perspective. I mean, the unbelievable swings thirty to fourteen.
Donald throws that pick to Turner. A lot of fans
said the hell will it and started walking out of
the stadium. How do you describe what you saw from
the Rams perspective last night?
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Yeah, well, just like so much like you said, for
Kobe Turner, I mean, big defensive lineman to intercept that
passed the second interduption for Sam in that game when
he had what won in the last four games, it
was just kind of like, well, it's so it continues.
Sam Darnold has a real big problem against the Rams defense.
And you know, you watch people walking for the exits,
(29:03):
but somewhere like in the back of your mind, you
had to think, like there's still a lot of time
maybe there's a miracle, even though deep down you kind
of like there's no way, but just for Rashiki you
need to come out and get that punt return for
a touchdown. It's like that was such a spark, and
even he said like he could feel the momentum in
the entire stadium shifts, right, and that's just so accurate. Well,
(29:27):
something like that can really turn around a game. Uh,
you know, Ernest Jones was saying afterward that ram Slayers
were like laughing at them when they were up thirty
to fourteen. And obviously Ernest Jones, we know, takes things
to heart and stands by that team. So I thought
all of that was just so interesting how it played
into the shift of momentum for that game.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
So what's the I mean, like, what's the topic back
there in LA? Is it people ripping McVeigh for choking away?
Is it people ripping the defense for all of a
sudden just completely not showing up. I mean, where's the
where's the finger of blame getting pointed to?
Speaker 6 (30:02):
It's really at the officials. Wow wow, Yeah, we saw
you know, Puka the kua and and it obviously was
immediate immediately deleted as fast as went up. But after
the game he said, you know, I looked the officials
are correct, right, Uh, I think there's plained obviously, ra
Sean mcvay's received an explanation, and Seau mcmay would never
(30:23):
blame officials, right, they take responsibility. Staview Stafford last night.
But yeah, that whole two point conversion reversal was like
a very weird play. But as he acknowledged that there
was still time left, uh, you know, to to win
the game. But for like a lot of Rams fans,
for a lot of people like they point to that
as being the real culprit and what led to the
(30:43):
Rams della.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Wow, wow, Well, I'm surprised to hear that.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
I guess overall, I know that, you know, Pooka had
his thing earlier in the week where he talked about
officials wanting FaceTime or referees wanting FaceTime. That I saw
Kelly Stafford, you know, put something on IG or Twitter
or whatever it was last night about you know, the officials.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
And the way they were working.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
I mean, I don't know, from my perspective, it looks
like a horrible look for the franchise, A franchise that
is eleven and four. They won a championship a couple
of years ago, one of the elite teams in the
NFL to be blaming the officials and the quarterback's wife
and the star wide receiver to be kind of leading
that charge. Just I don't know, Lindsey, it just seems
(31:23):
like a horrible look for the team.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
Yeah, you know what, I don't think it would be
the organization's first choice to have, especially like you know,
Nukua out there blaming officials. I know it wouldn't be
Sean mcvay's first choice absolutely, Like and Matthew Stafford to
that point too, Like he might have been frustrated, Like
he didn't really say that. He was just more like
(31:48):
trying to explain what he thought the rule was, and
he didn't really know about this kind of course of
the rule, which I think it was really fair. I mean,
this is pretty deep down in the rule book, right.
There were a lot of confused people last night. But
when it comes to Kukakua sometimes didn't understand even kind
of what star power he has even in the NFL yet,
(32:09):
So when he kind of considers himself as a guy
putting on a tweet, it's like you are the star
player on the Rams here and the number two receiver
in the league. Right now, you know what you say,
hadn't wait. But that being said, there are you know,
a lot of guys on the team, Kobe Turner included
last night, was talking about how they could have done
it better. Right, There's so many points down the stretch
where they could have had to stop and they didn't.
(32:31):
And they allowed Sam Darnold to turn it on late
in the game, so you know, they could have made
a stop at the goal line there on that version
that won the game. There was a lot of things
that could have gone on.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
Yeah, well, lindsay theory ESPN's with us.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
The backwards pass that was in the in the play
by place she goes down as a rush by sharbon
Day because he just picked the ball up in the
end zone and he wasn't picking the ball up because
he was aware of the circumstances. He was picking the
ball up to give the ball to the official. And
Jessman just said, and look, he's being courteous. I mean,
if he wasn't being courteous and just left the ball alone,
the Seahawks may not win that game last night.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
For God's sake.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
So are the Rams disputing that that that was a
backwards past or you think they're accepting in their locker
room that that was the proper call.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
I mean, I don't actually know what's going on privately
in their locker room. But Sean McVay today did go through,
you know, what was explained to him and and you know,
the explanation is what the rules are. So they're accepting
it and moving on. Yeah, I think there has been
some greater debate, not necessarily saying it's coming from the RAMS,
a greater debate maybe in Los Angeles right about you
(33:38):
know the camera angles and was that exactly because you know,
the camera is slightly in front, slightly behind, I can
warp the angle. Was it actually backward past? All the things?
But you know what, I think one of the most
interesting things I saw regarding that play today actually came
from Wade Phillips, obviously longtime NFL coach. He's a former
Rams defensive coordinator, and he actually was saying on social media,
(34:02):
like one of the things he always taught these defensive players,
no matter what happened, was like you pick up the ball,
you'd be the one to pick up the football, And
I just think that's really an interesting takeaway for it
could be for every single team in the league, right, like,
never just let a ball sit down there, because obviously
for the Seahawks you saw it.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Picking up the football did for that, right, Yeah, I
no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Well, is there a is there a thought down there
that this is now the Seahawks Division and the number
one seed is clearly going through Seattle?
Speaker 5 (34:33):
Is there still hope in LA? What's the take on
kind of the way this thing ends? You think?
Speaker 6 (34:38):
No, I think there's a lot of hope. You know,
it's it's not a guarantee that the Seahawks win their
final two games. You know, the Niners are still in
this thing. Obviously, the Rams are very much still in
this thing. You know, obviously they have to see what
Seattle does. But what you guys, Seattle fences.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
With Carolina and then the Niners.
Speaker 6 (34:59):
Then I yeah, so I mean those Carolina look, I
can tell you I've covered that two of their games
this year when they beat Cowboys and beat the Packers,
like that is not a team that you know, you
can just show up and beat. They They have had
some really good wins this season, and then obviously the
forty nine Ers versus Sea Aukle that's a long time
rivalry games. So I don't think anybody in la is
(35:20):
saying that this thing's finished by any means. They absolutely
know right that that was the best opportunity they had
to earn the number one seed in the NFC and
win the division. So obviously they're no longer in the
driver's seat for any of that, but it's far from over.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
I think in their minds, no doubt it's going to
be fine. The last couple of weeks. All right, Lindsay,
great stuff. I'd say, great to see you, but we
didn't get to see you because you're just way too
busy for us. You're way too big for the small
people up here in Seattle.
Speaker 6 (35:47):
So we will talk down the road.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
I know, I know you would have.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Hey, glad that you were there though, to see that classic,
that's that's a bucket list thing for sure, man, No doubt,
great stuff.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Enjoy the holidays, best of the family. We'll talk sooner, right.
Speaker 6 (36:04):
Okay, Thanks, Happy holidays, all.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Right, Lindsay theory we're gonna break Hugh Millan. We'll rejoin
next on ninety three three Caja AIRFM,
