Speaker 1 (00:00):
Where we go.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Tim Kawakami is reporting that the forty nine ers have
had discussions regarding hiring Pete Carroll. There's their defensive coordinator
in San Francisco with the forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
How about that?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
That's what.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
I feel, Sorry frust you think you would do.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
It, Niners defensive coordinator, just to shove it up the
Seahawks ass twice a year, go coach their defense, Go
back to northern California where it all began for him,
work under Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
You know what, that really piss me off?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Really?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
See that was my next question because you remember when
Richard Sherman did that, everybody got mad at him, and
my reaction was, hey, we cut the guy, Yeah, we
fired him.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Same thing with Pete Carroll. We cut the guy.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Like Sikwe Barkley got cut by the Giants and he
ends up siding with their biggest rival in Philadelphia, has
an MVP caliber year, and now he's a game away
from the Super Bowl. I got a general rule, once
you fire somebody, you have no control or say over
what they do next.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
With their life.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Sure, I'm a fan and for somebody who coached my
team for you know, more than a decade of a decade, Like, yes,
that would really make me. Because listen, Pete Carroll, if
you want to be a DC, you can go be
a DC pretty much anywhere. Richard, I don't know what
his options were, but he also wanted to get back
at Seattle. Pete Carroll, if you joined the Niners after
a decade here, screw you, man.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Wow, that's exactly the open of the radio show.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
That I was looking for.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Sorry, I just think Pete Carroll is so much a
better head coach. I mean, he is a scholar leader,
he is a motivator, he is a figurehead. I just
don't see Pete Carroll as a coordinator. I don't think
that's his strength.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, I agree with you that his biggest strength as
being a culture builder, Yes, and he does that as
a head coach.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
His next biggest strength is coaching defense.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I mean, he's one of the great defensive backs coaches
in the history of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Calling defensive plays.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Strength well, I don't know, he hasn't done it in forever.
I mean, he wasn't doing it here in Seattle, and
John Schneider and him were getting the players, they were
mixing the ingredients together. But look, I mean, I think
it'd be a coup for the Niners to get Pete
Carroll as their defensive coordinat I think it's part of
the reason why Jackson's pissed off about it, because you know,
deep down, for them, it'd be magnificent to have Pete
(02:18):
Carroll on one side and Kyle Shanahan on the other.
And maybe Pete Carroll is exactly what Kyle Shanahan needs.
But I'm just curious if the audience all four of
you have the same reaction that Jackson felt at because
the minute I saw that story, I knew that somebody
would say what you said, because we went through the
same thing with Richard Sherman. The Giant Fans went through
(02:40):
it with Saquon Barkley. And you may remember, like a
couple of weeks or so, maybe it was a few
months later.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I don't remember the exact timeline.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Rick new Heisler got fired from you Dub and then
shows up at Austin Stadium wearing a duck hat, sitting
in a suite at an Oregon game and people were
mad at him for doing that.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Remember that, Yes, So again.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I just think, look, if you if you fire somebody,
you got no right to be angry about anything they do.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Of course, because John put the shoe on the other foot. Yes,
how about you when you get fired from your job, like,
wouldn't you want to go and wear the hat of
the rival of your job?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Course, all Jackson does is run around this radio station
all day long and talk about all the tools at
the other radio station across the street. But I guaranteed
you if if you got fired tomorrow to give my
florial raid and they called you to get you over there,
you'd be there.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
In a second, across the streets, shove it up. But
see what you'd do.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Sure, But here's the thing, produce aft and it's a big,
if big. If there's any fans of mine, which there's
probably not, come on right then they would be like,
screw you man for going across listen. I think that
it's very understandable as a fan to have the emotion.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Of screw you with screw.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Move.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
But because the reality is fandom, we can be hypocritical.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
We can beat you hate for no reason. You can
do whatever you want.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
And I'm half kidding you want to get mad at
Pete for going to the forty nine ers, then get
mad at Pete for going to the forty nine ers.
I just think it'd be friggin hilarious if he did it,
because the chaos that would ensue would be fun as
hell to watch.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And the meltdown from Seahawk fans.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Anybody want to guess, some of them on this station
would be hilarious to watch. Anybody want to guess the
last team that Pete Carroll was the defensive coordinator for.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
The forty nine ers now for thirty years ago. Isn't
he from there? Isn't he from northern California? I think
he's from northern California. He's from Marin County, right, which
is in northern California. Yeah, right across from the Golden
gate Bridge. So he grew up there. That's why it's
his home. And maybe he's got family still there. I
got no idea, So we'll ask Florio when he comes
(04:49):
on the air with us if there's any tea to
this whatsoever. We got to get his thoughts on all
these new hirings and firings in the NFL. Kevin Harlan's
going to join us A five petros of four Dan
Biles mus to join us at three forty five.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Here's what we got. We got a contest.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Okay, we are going to be sitting on Tuesday night, Jackson,
Are you doing this with us too?
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Not?
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Okay? Would you like to?
Speaker 4 (05:09):
I don't think there's five seats in the Silmer seats.
Why don't you do it with Dick and I'll go home? Okay,
how's that sound? You could hang out with Dick. It's
just making really fun. And the cors Lights silver seat side.
I've sat next to Dick during games. It's a little
bit uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
He gets kind of handsy sometimes, all right, so just
make sure you give yourself some room. But we got
we got two tickets to give away in the cors
Light silver seat section, right there in the corner, right
right up against the glass. They're awesome seats. And here's
what we're gonna do. Dan Bilsma is gonna join us
at three forty five during the interview and honor a
Jimmy Butler who just got suspended two games for missing
(05:44):
a team plane by the Miami Heat. They've had problems
with this guy all year long. Obviously he wants a trade.
He's pissed off blah blah blah. So they whacked them
two games from missing a plane. We're gonna get Dan
Bilzma on the air three forty five and we're gonna
ask him which crack and player is most likely to
miss a plane, be late for a meeting, miss a bus, whatever,
and he's gonna give us an answer at three forty five.
(06:06):
So you gotta text in the four nine four to
five one the name of the player that you think
is most likely to be late for anything according to
the head coach, And if you're right, we'll pick one
winner from all the appropriate answers and award somebody at
Para seats with Dick and I on Tuesday night to
sit in the course light silver seats at the Kraken
game on Tuesdays. So who do you think that player
(06:27):
is going to be? Texting that name to four nine,
four to five one right now, and we'll draw a
winner based on Biosma's answer at three forty five.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Mike Florio joining us right now.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Michael, how are you?
Speaker 7 (07:27):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But he's a genuine butthole.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Were you surprised that the Jets went after another defensive
minded head coach and Aaron Glenn after whacking Robert Sala,
who was also a defensive minded head coach.
Speaker 7 (07:41):
Well, what we often see teams do when they fire
a coach is they look for a new coach who
is the opposite of the guy they had, and here's
the defensive guy who's never been a head coach before,
and that was what they had the last time around.
So yeah, it was kind of surprised. And you think
they go offensive, may be guy who's been a head coach.
That's just what team to do now, dysfunctional team to
(08:04):
do that. And if the Jets, led by Woody Johnson
were able to overlook that and just get the right
guy for the job, then God love them.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
But we'll see what happened.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
You know, I was talking about this over day. The
problem is suggets even when they clean house and bring
in a new coach in a new GM, their fans
expect something big quickly. There's no great period.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
The bar is.
Speaker 7 (08:26):
High and that's difficult for any coaching staff, any front
office to live up to. So we'll see how they
they do. But it's not going to be an easy
spot because Underwoody Johnson, it's never an easy spot.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
More likely or less likely now that Aaron Rodgers stays
in New York, I never thought.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
He was coming back, and this is just I think
part of the formality that the new regime once they
hire a GM, they'll decide to move on, because really,
why would you want the guy whose arrival was basically
the catalyst for everybody else to be fired. It's time
to go in a different direction. It's time to find
somebody else. I don't think he wants to be there anyway.
He was needling Woody Johnson on multiple occasions on Pat
(09:05):
McAfee's show. So I think that it's just debtson for
a divorce, and I think he wants them to initiate
it till he can pain himself as a victim.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Mike, there's a report out from Tim Kawakami that the
Niners have had discussions about bringing on Pete Carroll as
a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
How much teeth do you put to that report? How
much of that do you buy?
Speaker 7 (09:26):
Well, you know they want Robert Sala. That's been out there,
and I think somebody was on Tim Kollacomy's podcast and
said that, and that they're willing to pay him more
than any other defensive coordinator in the NFL. Now, Sala
is in play for the Cowboys, the Jaguars, and the Raiders,
and Carroll's in play for the Raiders, and there are
(09:46):
people keeping a close eye on that. And when you
look at the other candidates for the Raiders beyond Ben Johnson,
who many think they really wanted, Carroll is the one
who stands out because he's got the pedigree, he's got
the experience, and there's an agent and an issue the NFL,
and it would be nice if the Raiders would would
not be like the rest of the herd that always
wants the young coach and shies away from the older guy.
(10:08):
And as I pointed out yesterday, I mean, how the
goring to Las Vegas. He's a decade younger than Wayne Newton.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
What's the problem? Yeah, no, no question about it.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
And laughing you're not laugh at that.
Speaker 7 (10:20):
It's no butthole reference. But it's still pretty funny.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Ah, it's got to be listening first in order.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I heard everything you said. Okay, I was just waiting
for something funny. That's funny, Mike.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I'm in the minority.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
I'm actually a Seahawk fan that thinks Brian Schottenheimer did
a good job here as the offensive coordinator. I think
he's the best offensive coordinator of the Pete Carroll had
when he was when he was here, and now he
is the odds on favorite to be the next head
coach of Dallas, though I think that's a little odd.
Why is he such a heavy favorite and do you
think he will be the head coach of Dallas.
Speaker 7 (10:53):
I think they wanted to keep Mike McCarthy on their terms,
short term deal where they could move on from him
after a year or two with no buyout or with
a minimal buyout. So Dak Prescott wants continuity. And you
got it if you make the guy who has been
the offensive coordinator for the past couple of years the
head coach, same offense, same playbook, and Dak gets what
(11:15):
he wants, and then you see if Schottenheimer has it.
But he's been an assistant coach his whole career. He's
fifty one, and he's never been a head coach.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
He's never even been.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
Mentioned as a serious head coach Candy and I think
he's gotten some perfunctory interviews in the past, but this
would just be odd for a Cowboys team that loves
to create sizzle. Look at this first name that came out,
Dion Sanders, and Jerry Jones knows the importance of selling
his team. This is a tough sale job. When Brian
Schottenheimer's your next head coach, I can't help but wonder
(11:44):
whether or not he's got something up else, else up
his sleeve. But we'll find out. We'll find out is
Shottenheimer's guy. He's got two interviews, and there aren't a
bunch of big names that have been linked to the job.
I just keep one eye, just cock eyed on Bill
Belichick because Jerry said last year he has no doubt
he could coach and coexist with Bill Belichick. And I
(12:06):
think Bill Belichick wants back in despite anything that his
consigli hairy Mike Lombardi says to the contrary. And we'll
just see if that happens.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Now, what's going up with Lombardi? Because everybody's got a
beef with Lombardi? Doesn't he work for Belichick now at Carolina,
So he's just kind of as like his bag dad Bob,
isn't he.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Well, it's not.
Speaker 7 (12:26):
That everybody has a beef with Lombardi, it's Lombardi has
a beef with everybody. And he's denying reports one at
a time. He's called at least three different reports complete
falsehoods in recent days, and at some point if you're
saying that so often, people are going to think that
you're the one who isn't telling the truth. And the
reality is I believe I can't prove this, but I
(12:49):
believe that Bill Belichick would love to come back to
the NFL. And the buyout clause it's in the contract
as if last week he hadn't signed. That says everything
we need to know about whether or not play. If
he wants to calm the nerves in North Carolina, nerves
that go all the way up to the commission of
the ACC all he's got to do is remove the
buy out beside the contract. If you take out the buyout,
(13:12):
he ain't going anywhere. You could just have no buyout
through the first year of the deal, full commitment. There's
no way out. This is my job. But that hasn't happened,
and until it happens, I think there's a possibility goes
to the NFL. And I'm intrigued by, for example, the
decision of the Jaguars late than you know, better late
than never. But to move on from GM Trent Balk
(13:32):
that opens up a spot where Belichick could go in
and take over. If seag Kong would be inclined to
hire Mike.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Kansas City, in their last ten playoff games, has had
fewer penalties and fewer penalty yards than the team against them.
Is that because they're simply a more disciplined football team,
or because of you know what? People are chirping out
there they get all the calls.
Speaker 7 (13:54):
Well, here's how I look at it. First of all,
I don't believe NFL games are scripted or rig because
primarily I don't think the NFL is confident enough to
pull it off. They couldn't keep it quiet. People would know,
people would talk anonymously or otherwise it would bother someone
and they would say something. I think it's just a
situation where there's inconfidence. And I also think that because
(14:17):
the NFL has torn down the firewall between business considerations
and integrity of the game, I think some of these
officials realize it's good for business. You know, if all
they're talking about is ratings, and the chiefs are the
ones that are delivering the raids, and that's all you're
hearing about. Ratings, ratings, ratings, ratings lead the money. At
some level, it's going to cause you to act on
(14:39):
that subconsciously. If that's all you're hearing about. The officials
should be walled off from any of that. The officiating
department should be walled off from any of that. They
shouldn't be thinking about what's good for the business. It's
good for the business. It's difficult, right. I think that's
how it can manifest itself. So it's not some grand conspiracy.
It's subconscious bias that is influenced by the that it's
(15:01):
good for the league. Get the Chiefs and other star
quarterbacks with big followings, win games and pursue championships more
likely to tune in. And I think it becomes exacerbated
by the fact that the wildcard rounds down nine and
a half percent from last year, the division rounds down
eight and a half percent. They got to pump this
thing up. They got to get Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
(15:21):
Although the other side of the coin could be that
there's Chiefs fatigue and then the subconscious messages we got
to get the chief out of here, we got to
have somebody else pursuing a championship. Regardless, I think that's
where it comes from. It's subconscious bias driven by what's
good for the business, what the officials perceived to be
good for.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
The business, Mike, before you go the Mark Andrews drop
two point conversion. If he catches that and the Ravens
win the game, what does that mean for Lamar Jackson's
legacy and what did the drop mean to his legacy?
Speaker 1 (15:52):
If anything at all on your mind? Well, here's the reality.
Speaker 7 (15:57):
With each passing year, the Lamar Jackson doesn't make it
to the super Bowl, there's going to be more pressure
on him the next time around to get to the
super Bowl. Narratives become reinforced or debunked. And he said
it himself a couple of weeks ago, is they were
getting ready for the wildcard game against the Steelers. He
gets antsy, he gets anxious, he gets nervous, he's aware.
(16:19):
You know, the consequences are different. You lose the regular
season game, you have another train on the tracks in
six days, four days, five days, whatever. You lose the
postseason game, you're done. And I think it just becomes
more and more pressure until he finally does it. And
I'm not saying he can't, but it gets harder each year.
It doesn't get easier, and he's working against that history
(16:40):
that keeps growing of failure. That's where it becomes a challenge.
I think what they need to do during the season
next year at the trade deadline, they need to forget
about how they play the compensatory draft pick game, and
they have a bunch of value in building for the future.
They got to say the hell with the future. We're
going to go all in where we get the one
guy that we need, the big name, not some role player.
We'll look for a big name who's available. We're getting
(17:01):
him on the team and we're going all in and
we're going to try to win it all this year.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah, Mike, I really want you to know how much
we appreciate having you on and every week it's a
pleasure to.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Talk to you.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
Sure, we'll do it.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
We'll do it again next week.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Pal.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
Did I hear you talking about going to a hockey game?
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah, Tuesday night? Want to come.
Speaker 7 (17:17):
I saw something where where somebody put nachos out on
the ice. Do you have an alibi for that, because
that seems like something you would do.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
I mean no, but it sounds like a hell of
an idea. Are you kidding me? I'm all over it,
my god. Yes, I'm a fan of cold nachos. I
might do that on Tuesday night, so watch for me
on Sports Centers Top ten.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
All right, Mike, you're the man, buddy, We're talking a week.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Man.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
See Mike Florio with us on the show. We're Gonna break.
Dan Bilsman's going to join us at three forty five.
Who is the most likely cracking player to get busted
from missing a plane, being late to a meeting, late
to the team bus?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Text in? Who you think that player is?
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Dan Bilesmo is going to give us an answer at
three forty five, and if you nailed it on the
text line, we'll pick one of you and give you
a pair of light silver seats to sit with me
and Dick for the game on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Husky basketball another loss.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yesterday, I got the final four of the NFL lots
to cock to talk about, including did Washington Michigan just
out draw Notre Dame Ohio State. We'll talk about it
next on ninety three to three KJRFMA.
Speaker 8 (18:19):
Now back to Southie and Dick on your home for
the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Sports Radio ninety.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Three point three KJRFL shuts down.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, a lot of folks on the text line reminding us,
by the way that Pete Carroll to the Niners conversation
we had with Florio. By the way, last second, see
if it actually happens. Tim Kawakami reporting the Niners are
kicking around the idea of old Pete Carroll swinging by
to be the defensive coordinator for Kyle Shanahan, and you know,
people lose their minds. Jackson's all mad about it. People
(18:51):
got mad when Sherman went to the Niners. Giant fans
got mad when Saquon went to Philadelphia. kJ Wright is
on the staff and wanted a job in Seattle. John
Schneider won hire them, so he went to San Francisco,
which is the next closest NFL football team to Seattle.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
By the way, what are you gonna do?
Speaker 5 (19:08):
I don't understand why anybody would be mad at any
of those situations. This Pete Carroll situation reminds me a
little bit of Klen de Boor. I think it's an
odd fit. Well, yeah, cal Obama is an odd fit
at Alabama. I think Peek Carroll will be an odd
fit as defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Then there's no rivalry with you, dub In Alabama. There's
a heated, hated rivalry with you with the Seahawks in
San Francisco. Right, I mean, look, I mean I'm not
I agree with you. It doesn't make me mad at all.
You fired the guy. He wants to go be a DC.
Pretty good defense, pretty good roster still, I think in
San Francisco, maybe not as good as they've been.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
But it's okay, go down there.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
But to Jackson's point, people are pissed because they're fanatical,
they're alludedics, they're emotional, they're passionate, and you're talking about
the most hated rival of the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Have yes.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
And also to say, those three Sherman, Wright Carroll are
three very different circumstances. They're not all the same because
they were all fired.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Sure, but I'm.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Looking I'm looking at it as opportunities elsewhere. Pete Carroll,
if he opens him up and says to all NFL teams,
I'm willing to be a d C, he's gonna get
calls from probably twenty different teams saying we want you
as a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Richard Sherman, unique case, was looking for specific deals, was
clearly kind of looking for a longer deal on the
back end of his career. Who knows what opportunities he
had a certain amounts of money, but kJ Wright, how
many calls was kJ Wright getting to be a coach
in an NFL?
Speaker 1 (20:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
I don't kJ Wright in the slightest because it's all
about opportunities, and that's Carol would have more opportunities than
I remember. That's why I be mad the conversation with
Sherman in the Night and the Seahawks. Apparently, according to
I think, Richard was, Hey, go out there and see
what's available and then come back to us, right, And
they said, okay, we don't want you. So he took
a job with the forty nine ers and he played
(20:56):
in the Super Bowl, for God's sakes against Kansas City.
He wasn't very terrible in that game, but he's still playing.
But he played in that game. He started for them whatever,
So he got to play in the East.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
He's played in three Super Bowls because he went to
San Francisco. So did he get cooked on I think
he got cooked by Tyreek Hill as a matter of fact, yes,
but a lot of people got cooked by Tyreek Hill.
But look if it happens, it happens. I'm not gonna
be mad at Pete Carroll. I think if I'm a
Niner fan, I'd be freaking thrilled to hire Pete Carroll
as my defensive coordinator. But here's another name to watch for.
(21:30):
You want to get pissed off again. If Robert Sala
lands the Jaguar job, a name to watch for the
forty nine or DC search would be Gus Bradley, the
former Seahawk defensive coordinator who's now available to go down
to San Francisco and be his coordinators. Apparently apparently now
we're just looking at X Seahawks now for all the
jobs in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
It was only for a couple of years.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
But I'm being half sarcastic, obviously, guys, come on, but
they're just taking table scraps.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
The Niners are taking tables from the Seahawks. They are,
That's right.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
The Niners are in bad shade.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
I mean, you talk about the trajectories of teams, right,
and it's obvious to see the trajectories of some teams, right.
It's obvious to see the trajectory of like a team
like Green Bay. Now that Chicago's got all rid of
their entire horrible coaching staff. The trajectory of the Bears,
the Seahawks trajectory, I think is just flat. It's not up,
it's not down, and until they get a different quarterback,
(22:27):
it's just going to be flat. The Niners is clearly down.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
They're in cap hell.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
They got to pay their quarterback fifty plus million dollars.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
They're old. Christian McCaffrey is done.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
I mean, like there they are staring at multiple.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Seven ish win seasons. Pull the plane up quickly. Well,
how of them? Screw them? I hope they continue to suck?
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
And you know what, if Pete Carroll goes down there
and they suck with Pete Carroll, then whatever. If that's
the price we gotta pay, I'm fine with that. But
did you see the ratings came out for the Notre
Dame of House State game. If you would have told
me on Sunday nights that Washington, Michigan would outdraw Notre
Dame Ohio State, I'm not sure if I would have
bought that, to be honest with you, not day.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
And part of it had to do with the fact
that one was competitive in the late third quarter in
the art thirty one to seven.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
And your point off the year about big game. What's
the word you do games?
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Fatigue? First take today, Chris Chris.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Russo said, Dude, I just had two games Saturday in
the NFL. I just had games Sunday in the NFL.
I'm tired of watching big games.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
On the next thing, I want you to do me
a favor, yes, and I don't know if you can
do it. I want you to stop watching TV for
a game, Okay, can you just for one day. I
don't want you to watch Colin Cowhard. I don't want
you to watch Chris Russo.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
What am I gonna do?
Speaker 3 (23:43):
What?
Speaker 1 (23:43):
I'm on the treadmill. You know what.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
You'll listen to music, You'll watch a movie. You know,
you'll watch a TV show.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
For God's sake, You'll watch Silo, You'll watch land Man,
you'll watch Decker.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
I'll give you a show. Jackson, will give you a
show one day. Can you do it.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Right?
Speaker 1 (23:57):
One hundred and thirteen TV shows.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
I'll give you any at the reason I watch it.
Though you think those guys are going on TV going
you know fad the other day.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
It's giving you a plut screw up.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
I sit there with my phone. When I hear a
good topic or a good question, I can ask you,
or Hold or Florio or any Wilner. I jot it down.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
I want you to. I want you to come up
with your own stuff.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Man, never mind those idiots over there, and you know
we're gonna do on own stuff full with audio. We're
gonna just replay a bunch of stuff from those shows today.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
One was a blowout and one wasn't okay that, And
you know what, maybe you're right and I'm not. I mean, look,
who knows right. Nobody knows why.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
I guess I would have thought that Notre Dame is
a big enough brand where more people would have watched.
And like I said, off the air, can you imagine
was it Penn State that played Notre Dame in the semifinal? Yes,
if Penn State had beaten Notre Dame, what would the
ratings have been If Ohio State destroyed Penn State and
there was no Catholic Church and no Jesus Christ and
no Golden.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Dome behind that freaking thing.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Hey, look, guys, I think this proves one thing, Washington
bigger brand than Notre Dame, no question, how well everybody
knows that.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
I will say this, Michael Pennox bigger brand than Riley Leonard.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Oh for sure. I think that has a big I
mean I think people.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
I think Michael Pennix brought national eyeballs to Washington last year.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Riley Leonard looks like the kid that's snuck onto the
football field and put a helmet on. Honestly, when he's
in like junior high and he was rooted and he
sneaks onto the varsity three, he looks like Lucas. You
ever see the movie Lucas? By the way, you ever
see that show. It's a hell of a show. It's
about a nerdy kid that collects bugs and plays football
and gets his ass kicked.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
That's actually pretty good. You might want to check it out.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Put that in your list of one hundred and fifty
thousand favorite movies you want to watch. But yeah, I mean, look,
it was not what college football was looking for. And
the point of bringing this up is not the slam
Notre Dame, which is always fun, by the way, I
love that, But the point is is that maybe they
need to rethink the calendar a little bit.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Here.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
How many people even before the game was played Monday
were saying this is ridiculous, right, I'm not ready for this.
I don't want to watch. It's Inauguration Day, it's MLCA.
We just had a bunch of football yesterday and Saturday.
Why is this game not every single year at the
Rose Bowl, New Year's Day for the National Championship, Sugar Bowl, Vegas,
(26:16):
whatever you want to do.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
It needs to be on the Sunday.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
But wherever the Sunday between the NFC Championship and the
Super Bowl, they get a week on their own.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
But the point is moving, right, The point is move
it off of that Monday. Wherever you want to put it.
That's fine. But the problem with that is now you're
going ahead to head with the Pro Bowl that well,
let's face it, nobody watch this, so the hell with it?
All Right, we're gonna break Dan Bilsma, what player is
most likely to be late for a team bus flight meeting?
Texting who you think that player is? Dan Bilsma is
(26:46):
going to give us an answer. If you guess it right,
you'll be in the opera for a pair of Corps
Light silver seats for Tuesday's game at Climate Pledge arena.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
We'll get to that coming up next.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
On ninety three to three KJRFM, it's time for.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
Suf Dick's weekly visit with Seattle Cree and head coach
Dan Bilsma, brought to you by Dick's Drive In, serving
great biggers, fries and shakes the hockey fans since nineteen
fifty four. Stop into one of the nine Dicks Drive
Ins locations today now with our head coach, Dan Bilsma,
Deer's sufti and good all.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Right, here we go on a Wednesday afternoon right here
on ninety three to three caj A RFM. Big thanks
for our friends at Dick's drive Ins. By the way,
stop on Vine and grab your favorites for me. It's
simple too. Cheese fries and a die coke man every
single time. And my favorite Dick's up there on forty
fifth by the way. All right, we'll get to it.
The head coach of the Crack and Dan Bosma. After
a win Monday over the Sabers Coach, how are you?
Speaker 3 (27:40):
I am great guys, how are we doing today?
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Doing it good?
Speaker 2 (27:43):
By the way, we have a pair of cors Light
silver seats right there on the glass to give away
for Tuesday night's game. And what we're gonna do is
ask a question, have the audience texting what they think
is the answer, and then we're gonna get the answer
from you at the end of the interview and give
somebody a pair of take us to sit with us
in those great seats Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
So the question is this.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat just got suspended from
missing a team plane for two games. I want to
ask you in a few minutes, who is the most
likely candidate on your roster to be late for a plane,
late for a bus, or late for a meeting. All right,
so think about that now. We'll get the answer from
you in a couple of seconds. But hey, it's kind
of funny what happens when you score goals, uh, ten
(28:25):
goals in two games and you've won them both.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
How about this offense all of a sudden, coach.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Ignited. Yes, and not just one or two guys. We've
had some good success for Maddy, Veneers and Cocko and
Schwartzy is the line, but some other guys are joined in.
Now you see Lars and rig Alexiax score last game
and Larson gets the game winner. Joining the fray. So
goals are coming from a lot of different guys, and
(28:51):
I mean success for the team.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Yeah, and goals are coming from the defense as well.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Two goals five assists from defenseman on Monday night seems
like you're getting more offense. It's a production from them recently.
Do you feel like that's the case going back aways
and what's the reason for that?
Speaker 1 (29:06):
If so, I think, you know, goals.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
From a defenseman scoring from defenseman. I believe we're second
in the National Hockey League and that highlights Dunner and
Brennan Montor, but it highlights, you know, just connecting this
from our team and offense and how we're executing. It
means everybody has a chance to score a goal. And
that means you know, you're see rig coming in down
(29:33):
from the point and scoring the goal. That means Lars
is coming in down from the point and getting a
great play from Jared mccannon's scoring a goal. So it Yeah,
we got some good players back there, and Mirke Reverends
and Brennan Montor and they've gotten us some goals. But
it's good to see the whole group from the back
end joining the frame. Well.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Coach you mentioned Alexiak there, and there's not a lot
of guys that have been here from the start, and
he's obviously one of them. At the big goal, Like
you said on Monday, talk more about kind of what
this guy's meant to you on and off the ice, coach.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Uh, Well, he's the big rig and he does the commercials,
the checking commercials as we've seen for throughout the years.
But it means he's a big body defender. And you
just you don't find many guys in the league that
are that big and that hard and that heavy that
can play defense and skate and check with the with
(30:26):
the big boys, and and that's a big, big part
of our penalty kill. It's a big part of us
playing defense.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
He hays got six weeks until the trade deadline, and
you know, obviously the pressure ramps up closer to the
end of the season to make a charge for the playoffs.
But also does the pressure ramp up closer that deadline
because you as a coach wants to prevent the front
office from getting rid of your veterans and going with
more young guys, right.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Yes, for sure, And I think there's you can't deny
the pressure. It kind of he's on the players as
well individually. It's uh, you know, as a as a player,
none of us are in the same exact spot. But
with the deadline comes always, you know, the the thought,
(31:14):
the idea that you might be going somewhere else, you know.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
Stay here.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
That's a that's a something that you know definitely weighs
on the players minds. So they're not going to tell
you that, but yeah, that is something that's definitely the case,
and how the team's doing plays into that as well.
So you know, we as a group, we want to
make a push here. We have eight games before the break.
You know, we've won three of our last four. We
want to do it again two more times here before
(31:37):
the break, and if we win six games going in here,
we're going to look up at the standings and see
us right, you know, in the mix or looking up
at at that last playoff spot somewhere where we want
to be. Well.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Dan Bosma's with us courtesy of Dix Drivings.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Again, we've got a pair of Corselights silver seats to
give away text in the answer or what you think
the answer is going to be to the question which
crack and player is most likely to be late for
a team playing meeting or bus and honor a Jimmy
Jimmy Butler getting two games by the heat for missing
a flight. Coach will give us the answer in a second,
but text in the name of that player that you
(32:10):
think he's gonna tell us at to four, nine, four
or five to one. Right now, coach, talk about your
goaltending schedule, And I'm just curious kind of where Grubauer
is right now in your mind, And how far out
do you set that? Is that a five game thing,
seven game thing, ten game thing? How far out do
you go with that?
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Yeah, I mean I think it's it's a month to month.
I think you look at the schedule and you're playing
fifteen games and there's back to backs and or four
and six nights or whatever, and map that out. But
it does, you know, it does have the ability to change,
you know, with the flow of the games, with the
(32:50):
flow of season, how each guy is playing as well.
And but you know, like for us this year, how
is it, how is it gone? I think, you know,
the first ten game it was a noticeable split between
the two guys. But at one point, you know, Ruby
got unfortunately injured in an accident, and Joey took over
(33:11):
the net for two weeks and played most, not all,
those games. And I'm around the Christmas break, Joey got
injured and he was out for you know, sixteen days,
I believe, and Ruby got seven eight in a row
and played those games. And now we're coming out of
that and they're both healthy and we've seen, you know,
(33:32):
the last four four games, Joey have the net here
and and you know, do a real good job with it.
And and that's kind of the you know, we'll go,
we'll keep going from here, but we play a few
more games here. We have back to back Anaheim Edmonton,
you know, some a place where we'll look to get
a split. And who plays in the net, and then
four more before the break.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Well, you got the best team in the NHL coming
to town tomorrow in the Washington Caps. And when you
think of the Caps, you say, I think of the
ageless one, Alex Ovechkin. Now I'm looking here at the
ESPN profile and it's he's so old, coach. He was
born in Moscow, USSR. That's what it says.
Speaker 9 (34:11):
I don't think there's a lot of hockey players born
in the Soviet Socialist Republic, But alex Ovechkin was tell
us just your thoughts of his career and what type
of team he's bringing in.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
A lot of a lot of experience. I think watching
him play, playing against him, you know, I think the
most prolific or one of the most prolific playoff series
was an nine the second round Washington versus Pittsburgh and
just the matchup of Sidanov. But I think everyone thinks
(34:47):
about a shot. Everyone. I think it's hard not to
argue that he's going to be and is right now,
the greatest goaltime score of all time. And we all
picture the shot on the on the top of the
circle and him home is one time or repeatedly, time
and time again, and he continues to do it. But
what you don't always think about is just how big
(35:09):
and powerful and strong he is as a player and
has been as a player. And just you know, I
I have pictures of him barreling down on defenseman and
put them through the back of the you know, back
of the boards, just being a big bull out there
on the ice, and it's a it's just it's amazing.
(35:30):
I can't say that I've enjoyed watching him play for
many of those years because it was against as it
was against us, and we had to watch and try
to stop that one timer. But just it's amazing now
as he's gone on his career and has done it
for so long. Were watching the greatest goals sport of
all time.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
All right, here's the deal for a pair of Corps
light silver seats to sit with us, I mean, coach,
if you want to leave the bench and sit with us,
you're more than welcome on Tuesday. By the way, I
have a couple of beers waiting for you over there,
a couple of frost brewed Corps Lights. But everybody texting
in what they think is gonna be the answer. Jimmy
Butler or the heat got suspended from missing a plane
for a couple of games. So we're gonna ask you
(36:09):
who is the most likely candidate on your roster to
be late for anything meeting, bust, team flight whatever.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Who's that guy?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Well, it's immediately it jumps to me that there's a
bunch that are not gonna miss this. And and Trenantana's
the first son ever, you know, the first on every
every plane.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Okay, all right, I got it.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Lars's Laris is charly thereafter, he's never he's never gonna
miss and the.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
You know, have we.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Had a player late for a meeting this year? Yes,
but I don't think he's the one that I think
is most likely gonna miss a flight or miss the meeting.
That was an unlikely situation. And okay, so I'm not
picking him. I'm going uh, I'm going with Andre Berrickhouse.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Oh wow, I love it. I love it all right.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Well, for those that texted Berukovsky, we'll pick one and
we'll give somebody a parent tickets for the game on
Tuesday in the course light silver seats. Dan, you're the man,
great stuff. Let's get three in a row. Good luck
against the Caps tomorrow and we'll talk soon.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Man, appreciate it all right, Thank guys. I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Dan Bowsman says Berikovsky is the most likely to pull
a Jimmy Butler on the team.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
We're gonna break Petro's gonna join us next On ninety
three to three KJRFM
