They are NFL champions the Seattlesyhawks one Super Bowl forty eight.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
As part of our non stuff coverage of the NFL,
this is Softy's weekly visit with Kevin.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Harlan's a pulldozer.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
He's a peace brought to you by Twin Peaks in
tuck Willa open every Sunday morning just in time for kickoff.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
He was like a pinball haanging off. Bunny's a twenty
three yard catch.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
It run catch every game, every bite and every sip
only at Twin Peaks tug Willa.
Speaker 5 (00:49):
Hit the touchdown, hit the touchdown.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
HiT's grabb byke Curse Now with Kevin, Here's Softy.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Rain is falling, wind is pulling the Paul put down
the kickers up my thing. It's way through the uprights,
through the rain and shut Coddle redict you in washing Demmon,
the Peers have what it. Twenty five took twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Four on a thirty eight yard walk.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Off field goal by a kicker caught off the pluck
the squad today.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
You know I need to know first of all, Kevin
Harlan with us courtesy of our friends at Twin Peaks,
Tuck Will a great spot to watch all the baseball games,
by the way, and by the way, as long as
the Mariners are playing all home playoff games, wings are
twenty percent off at Twin Peaks.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, get down there, baby.
Speaker 6 (01:39):
And check out the Maritors and get a great deal
on wings. Open early Sunday for kickoffs. But I have
a bad habit, Kevin, in this business. When I start
to scream and yell, I lose my voice and I
lose it fast.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
How do you agree? How do you avoid doing that
on calls like that?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Oh, you don't know. You get a lot of air
in your lungs. You push it out. You kind of
you're you're animated. I think you met John Madden told
me one time when I was at Fox. He said,
he said, uh, you know, when I began my TV career,
they said, John, you sound different than you looked on
(02:17):
the sideline. On the sideline, you were always moving your
arms and you were so animated.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
But in the booth during.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Our broadcast at CBS, you just kind of stand there.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
You're sitting down.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
He said you, They said you need to use your
arms and be like you were on the sideline. And
he told me, and I was with a couple other
broadcasters that when I did that, uh, it just it
changed the whole trajectory of my career. And I took
off and kind of became what I became because I
used my arms, I used my hands, I used my
(02:50):
body when I when I put that kind of stuff
into it. So I'm kind of the same way I
think a lot of broadcasters are, and and that has
kind of helped me. But I hear these back and
some things I like, some things I don't.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
I mean, I listen.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
It's always a work in progress with the broadcast. But
that was a that was a big moment for the Bears.
They did get redemption. Remember the last time they faced
him was that hail Mary passed that's right fifty two
yards from Jaydon Daniels last year to beat the Bears
when they had it almost looked an assured win. So
they got back. Now they're even won one with those
two top picks in last year's draft.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Yeah, no doubt. And Kevin Harlan's with us.
Speaker 6 (03:30):
I'm gonna try that, by the way, start thrusting my
chest in the air and Kevin harl See now I'm
losing my voice again for God's sakes, But.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Oh my goodness, the Bears.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
I think a lot of us thought that the Bears
were due to kind of make a run this year.
I like their schedule a lot. You know, Ben Johnson's
got an attitude, He's cocky, he doesn't give a damn
what you think about him or his way of going
about doing things. Is it possible that maybe this Bear's
team is about to turn a corner?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well, I love these new coaches that are in the league.
You've got one in Seattle, Ben Johnson clearly won in Chicago.
Dan Campbell kind of began this a couple of years ago,
and what he's doing in Detroit. You're you're seeing this
throughout the league. You can even dip into the Lafloor's
and the mcveigh's and and that group. I think Demico
(04:22):
Ryans has a bit of that down in Houston. These
you know stike In in Indianapolis clearly, you know McDaniels
maybe a little bit before in Miami that that thing
is is head and.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
South pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
My point is, yeah, is that this league always good
coaches are always attracted to the NFL. And I think
what's gonna happen here? And we need to keep track
of this over the next three to five years. We
need to see and Chip Kelly's already done it. We
need to see how many of these college coaches get
(04:59):
fed up with then il and and the inequity and
what these rosters are getting paid in college ball. Until
they get that fixed, we're gonna see, I think, an
exodus of good young coaches from college to pro and
they're gonna stay here. They're not gonna They're not gonna wait.
And and I just think that we're kind of in that.
The defensive coordinator with Green Bay was the head coach
(05:20):
at Boston College. He left because he got tired of
trying to go out and meet with donors all the
time and raise money for NIL so they could pay
these kids. It's exhausting and it's not coaching. It's fundraising, right,
and I think a lot of these coaches are sick
of it. And by the way, if you look at
what's happening in college basketball over the last five years,
(05:42):
look at all the great coaches that are gone, Roy
Williams and Mike Krzyzewski and the coach at Villanova and
the coach at Virginia and the coach at Tennessee, and
we can go on and on and on. They don't
want to be fundraisers. They want to be coaches. And anyway,
so we're seeing great coaching at the pro level because
(06:03):
they're tired of doing it.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
At the college level, there.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Are always going to be some that remain, but they
must have a great staff of fundraisers and they don't
have to get involved. But a lot of schools don't
have that, and they got to do it.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah, no do.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Kevin Harlan's with us again courtesy at Twin Peaks, Tuck
Willa and Kevin. You kind of mentioned two where they're
just in passing and you know, he came out after
their latest loss and it kind of threw everybody under
the bus, you know, for not being accountable late to this,
not showing up to that and then he came out
today and he apologized for all those comments.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
But I don't know, man.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
We're seeing a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL that
were just in the wrong system. Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold
up until last year, maybe even Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield.
Is it possible that with a new coach too at
Tungovlowa also might prove to be in the wrong system.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
I've said, and I think a lot of people agree
organizations fail young quarterbacks before quarterbacks fail organizations. I think
I think the Giants failed Jones, I think Cleveland and
Carolina failed, Baker Mayfield. I don't know where. I really
(07:08):
thought this marriage in Miami was going to work out
after Flores was let go and they brought in uh McDaniels.
I thought, Okay, this is a guy that will really resonate.
And for the first three years they did. They were good,
they were ascending. They were one of the teams that
you did not want to play. But but think that
(07:29):
they've had bad roster decisions and that that's not necessarily
on the coach. I think it's on the front office
and the personnel people. They're not they're not drafting well
they're not getting the right players down there.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
It's not working.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
And and I think that that they're failing to up
and with the offensive line and and right on down
the line. So I I you know, Dave, it is
a tough business. It's it's difficult. But he probably should
not have as a leader on that team, should not
have said.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
What he said.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
He could have put it more vague terms to get
the point across, as opposed to being so specific in
what he said after the game the other day.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
How about Mike Tomlin being pissed off and calling out
was it Andrew Berry the Browns GM for trading Joe
Flacco to a division rival who they now have to
play this weekend. I mean, I'm not sure I've ever
seen a guy trade a quarterback to a division rival
and then the coach of the team that that guy's
playing the next week call out the GM for doing it.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Well, he rarely does this, If he has ever done it,
I can't remember, right, but I did hear something in
a press box this past weekend that when the Flaco
deal was made, he asked reporters specifically after the game,
asked me this question about Flaco getting traded to a
(08:58):
division team. He asked the Porters, make sure you mentioned
this in our postgame press conference because he wanted to
address it. He purposefully that was that was premeditated. He
wanted to do it, and he did.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
So and then, I don't think a lot of people
know that story. So that scout told me that that
he heard it from a reliable source in the Pittsburgh Press Corps.
So he felt strongly about it. I can't disagree with him.
I think it's probably typical of what Cleveland is going
through right now. They've got Dave forty six million dollars
(09:37):
right now?
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Is a forty six It's oh, it's forty million or more.
I'll put it this way.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
It's forty million dollars or more this year going to
eight different quarterbacks and only two are on the roster.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Now, think of that.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
They've got forty million dollars going to eight different quarterbacks,
including Flacco, but only two are on the roster for
the Browns. That's that's what kind of organization they've got
right now.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
Well, Kevin Harlan's with us for a few more minutes.
I don't know if we'll be able to sneak in
Where will Kevin be for TV on Sundays?
Speaker 5 (10:12):
Yeah, no one cares. I don't care, you don't care, no.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Usic to your ears.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
I know you're doing the first Monday night game Buccaneers
Lions on Monday. And you know Tampa came here a
couple of weeks ago and beat the Seahawks in a shootout.
I mean, after what the Giants did to Philadelphia Thursday night,
can we now officially say that Baker Mayfield and the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the front runner for the NFC Championship.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
No, I wouldn't say that, but I would say through
a third of the season, Baker Mayfield is the MVP
of the NFL. Crazy and Sam and Sam Darnold is
not far behind, right, and Daniel Jones is not far behind.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
And imagine saying that three years ago, by the way,
I know, right, can.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
You imagine that they go, oh my god, you and
Kevin have been on a twin peaks and have a
couple of a couple of hits here before the game.
Uh yeah, no, No, I don't mean hits. I mean
I mean a shot.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
I didn't mean hit. So I just wiped that away. Anyway,
find my boy.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
My point is, My point is it just shows you
how this league can turn and and how just and
and Baker Mayfield spent five games with the Rams.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
It turned his career around. He found the love of
the game.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Same with Sam Darnold, and he went to San Francisco
for the year and backed up party. He discovered the
love of the game. And and and it's like he
almost went to rehab. He got he got right, he
got corrected and and and that's what these quarterback Daniel
Jones went to Minnesota, was under Kevin O'Connell up there.
He spent a handful of weeks up in with the Vikings.
(11:51):
He got right. That's that's that just goes to show
you what this league is. But the Buccaneers are clear
that now they're not winning by much, and they're winning late,
and that's a tough way to live. You're looking you're
you're looking over the precipice and boy, you're looking at
a big fall down.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
But they're they're finding ways to win. And there's something
very special about that that all winning teams do.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Last year that was the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
They won all they won like eleven consecutive one score games,
and they went onto the Super Bowl. So can I
disagree with what you just said about the Buccaneers. No,
they could, they could make it. But we're gonna find
out a lot Monday night in Detroit, which is one
of the great early games of this year or mid
season games, the Lions and the Buccaneers.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
That will be a beauty.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
You know what, I'm gonna do it? Where will Kevin
be for TV on Sunday promo?
Speaker 6 (12:42):
Nance have Colts Chargers and I'm gonna predict that you're
doing Raiders Chiefs in Kansas City?
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Am I right?
Speaker 5 (12:49):
No, no, no, you rascal. We're gonna be doing the
Giants and Broncos in Denver.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Got it? Got it?
Speaker 6 (13:02):
And then Monday night you got the first game, right
Buccaneers Lions?
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Correct?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, we follow ABC. I think ESPN's got your game
up there, right. But your game is a good game, Yeah,
Texans Hawks is a good game.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Kevin, you're the man, great stuff.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Oh you're the man. How can I be the man
when you're the man?
Speaker 6 (13:18):
How can I be the man when the man the man?
All Right, we've officially lost it. Time for us to
go to bed, Time for us to go Kevin you're
the man.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
That's what happens when you go to Twin Peaks before
we start doing this is this gig?
Speaker 6 (13:34):
Yeah, I love it, great stuff, buddy, all right, we'll
talk in a week man.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Thank you pal.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
No Mariners, I love it.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (13:41):

Mariner playoff days like today, like tomorrow, as long as
they're going when they play twenty percent off Wings. And

the early kickoffs in the National Football League. O. Here's
what we got Husky Honks coming up at six pm
(14:04):

with John Janssen, former Michigan offensive lineman who has been
with us now for three years in a row on
the pregame broadcast. He's the color commentator for the Michigan
Radio Network. We're gonna visit with John. Get us thoughts
on this matchup with the Dogs on Saturday. Hear more
about the enemy in the Michigan Wolverines. That's all coming
(14:26):
up next live from Jimmy's on first right here on

This is Duke of Duke Seafood and this hour is

Dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Softy and Dick on

Speaker 7 (14:48):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now

the Betty Capital of the Northwest, on Sports Radio ninety
three point t kjr FM.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
All right, we're back on a very very busy and
I mean very busy Wednesday night right here on ninety

postgame show after Game three of the ALCS. Tonight, coming
up from Jimmy's. We're gonna talk to the Husky Hanks,
Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey as well from six to seven.
So a lot to get to on today's show. But hey,
(15:24):
Saturday morning, nine am from the Big House in Michigan,
the Dogs and Wolverines we'll get it on for the
third consecutive year. This time for the second straight year
is Big Ten Conference foes and a guy that joins
us every time we have a need to talk Michigan football.
Former Michigan offensive lineman now with the Michigan Radio Network,
(15:45):
John Jansen with us on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
John, how are you, man?
Speaker 5 (15:50):
I'm doing great and I'm.
Speaker 8 (15:52):
Jealous as hell that the Pacific Coast time you get
a chance to wake up and you've got college foot
ball at nine am. I know everybody coming out east. Thanks,
So how could these kids play at nine o'clock? It's unbelievable,
And I mean I wouldn't want to play at eleven
o'clock Eastern time, but hey, it's it's the way college
(16:14):
football is designed right now when we got to learn
to love it.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Now, no question about that.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
It's becoming more and more like the NFL every single week.
And I was actually John talking to Jedfish about that
this last week and he said, Look, one of the
reasons why I don't complain a lot about travel if
at all, is because if we want our guys to
get ready for the league. Thirty two teams opposite sides
of the country. You played in the NFL. How much
do you think this experience will ready these kids for
(16:40):
life at the next level?
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Well, life at the next level. And let's just face it,
like it's a global economy, right, it's a life. Whether
you're playing in the NFL or you're a businessman, you're
an insurance broke. Like, whatever you're going to do in
your life, right, you're going to have to deal with
circumstances exactly like this. And Jed is one hundred percent
on that. This just is another way for college sports
(17:04):
and sports to be able to prepare you for whatever
comes at you in life.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Yeah. Well, John Jensen again, former Michigan offensive lineman's with
us on the air, and John, we first got to
know you a couple of years ago before the National
Championship game. And obviously both of these teams have changed dramatically, dramatically.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Since that night.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
We know how Washington has changed, brand new coaching staff,
brand new roster.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
What about in ann Arbor.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
How much different will this Michigan team look on Saturday
versus the one that we saw two years ago in Houston?
Speaker 8 (17:36):
Uh? Well, I mean it's it's dramatic how much different
it is. I mean like there's not even not a
lot of commonality in regards to the rosters or the
or the players that are going to be on the field.
And it's even quite a change from from the roster
that you guys faced last year. I mean Bryce wasn't
even committed to Michigan, I don't think by the time
we played you guys in Seattle last time. So you know,
(17:58):
Bryce Underwood is the core quarterback that's new. Donovan McCauley was.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Still in Bloomington.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Andrew marsh who had such a great game last week
against USC, he was in high school. So a lot
of the playmakers, a lot of the guys on the
defensive front, maybe they were here in twenty three, but
they didn't have much of an impact on that game.
So yeah, this is going to be it's going to
be exciting to see how these guys have grown since then,
(18:26):
whether they were here or not, and see what type
of how much they've grown from.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Week one of just this year.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Well, John, you mentioned Bryce Underwood, and look, I mean
the day and age of a freshman quarterback hanging around
for a couple of years and then playing as a
redshirt sophomore junior are just kind of over I mean,
you know the amount of money these kids are getting paid.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
You kind of have to play him right away.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
And we got a redshirt freshman obviously, and Demon Williams,
who's kicking butt right now. We can shout about your
thoughts on him in a second. But how much pressure
do you think there was on Michigan to play Bryce
Underwood right away because of the nil deal.
Speaker 8 (19:00):
Well, there was some, but I think there was more
pressure because he was the number one recruit in the
country and you get him on your roster and you
think that's the plug and play individual. And we did
the song and dance where yeah, okay, he's got to
earn his starting out, you know, position, and but the competition,
I mean, you guys saw that what we had a
quarterback last year and it wasn't it wasn't great. And
(19:24):
so you throw Bryce Underwood, who was just born different
than most other athletes, and he arrives here, he's you know,
six three, two hundred and thirty pounds, runs like a deer,
has a strong arm. All it was was athletically, it
was hands down, he was the starter.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
It was how quickly.
Speaker 8 (19:45):
Could he pick up the offense at a level that
you need to be able to play one to protect
yourself as a quarterback when they're bringing the blitzer, you
got to be able to see it, recognize it, get
rid of the ball, but also just to be productive
at that position. And from the moment that he on
campus pass this past January, he's been a student of
the game. He has studied the offense, he studied defenses,
(20:09):
he has his growth has been tremendous. Now there's still
plenty of room. No one's going to sit here and say, oh,
he's arrived, He's made it. There's been tremendous growth, and
I think he's had a quality freshman year to this point.
And hopefully as as he gains more experience, the best
way to learn is to do it, and hopefully he
continues to approve throughout the course of the season.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
Well again, John Jansen, former Michigan offensive lineman, with us
getting ready for Dogs and Wolverines, and I mean that
team two years ago is kind of obvious what you're
all about, which is just a physical brand of football
with Blake Corum pounding the ball and then playing suffocating defense.
Is that still the recipe for twenty twenty five Michigan
Wolverine football.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
You think, well, that's the recipe, but there have been
some ingredients that haven't quite allowed us to produce the
same results. And you know, if you just even look
at the last week's game against usc I never in
my wildest dreams thought that this Michigan football team would
get get pushed around out the line of scrimmage, both
(21:12):
offensively and defensively. And offensively, it's more a matter of
being consistent. We got some decent offensive linemen up there.
Giovanni al Hadi, the left guard, came back from injury,
and they just didn't They didn't operate as a cohesive unit.
There were things that they weren't seeing, whether it was
linebackers coming off the edge, running through the A and
(21:33):
B gap, it was just some basic things that they
didn't have their eyes up. They weren't aware, and that's
what caused a lot of the sputtering of the offense.
And and honestly, defensively, team teams are starting to get
a playbook on Jayshn Barham being on the edge. He's
a tremendous pass rusher, but there's a big difference between
(21:54):
playing the run, you know, three yards behind the line
of scrimmage as a linebacker off the ball line, versus
being an edge defender. So he's their teams are learning
and he's learning as well well.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
John Jansen again is our guest, former Michigan offensive lineman,
Dogs and Wolverines obviously this weekend. And John, before we
get your thoughts on on the Huskies and your perspective
on them, you know, I'm just curious of coach Moore
was kind of put in your mind and maybe an
impossible situation.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
He's taken over for a legend.
Speaker 6 (22:27):
He's taken over for a guy that won the national
championship in an era where there's more player movement allowed
than ever, and now he's taken some heat from the
fan base.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
I mean, we see it there.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
We see it at Wisconsin, we saw it at Michigan State,
we saw it at Penn State.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
For sure.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
Give us just a take on the on the situation
that he's found himself in.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
Well, I mean, he you know, when Jim Harbaugh left,
obviously he left as a national champion, but you know what,
seventeen starters left along at the same time, and he
didn't leave the program in a great place in regards
to talent. Again, when you play in the National Championship game,
with the way the the portal windows were at the time.
(23:08):
I know that the NCA is making some changes now,
but there wasn't an opportunity to go out and get
yourself a top end transfer quarterback. Now in a year later,
you were able to go to you know and recruit
one of the best recruits in the country. So there're
a lot of the talent on this Michigan football.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
Team is extremely young, and.
Speaker 8 (23:30):
When you think about you know, everybody knows about Justice
Haynes got him in the portal. Jordan Marshall is just
a second year player. He's the backup. We saw a
lot more of him when Justice went down. Bryce Underwood
is a freshman, Andrew marsh is a freshman. There's another
freshman wide receiver that I think even in the Washington
game we might start to see a little bit more
of its number six, Jamar Browner. And then you look
(23:53):
across the defense and Jaden Sanders, who is getting as
many reps in the secondary as anybody else, is a
true rushman. Elijah Dotson, Jordan Young, like there are just
so many young players, and so Sharon is recruiting at
an extremely high level. He's been able to tap into
the transfer portal and get some impact guys. But it
(24:15):
is taking a year two and it might even be
in the next year before you really start seeing the
full impact of what Charon Moore will have on this program.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Well, John, before you go again.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
John Jansen, former Michigan Wolverine offensive lineman, now on the
radio broadcast, is with us on the air, and John,
I look at last week's game versus USC and I
see a walk gun named King Miller who ran for
one hundred and fifty eight and a touchdown on that
Michigan defense, And wonder if this is the week that
Jonah Coleman finally gets going for you. Dub Demon Williams
went nuts last week versus Rutner's sixteenth player ever and
(24:49):
second in the Big Ten to throw for four and
run for one.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
And I don't know.
Speaker 6 (24:53):
I don't mean to be cocky here because there's no
need for that, but I think a lot of Husky
fans feel like, Hey, this is kind of a toss
up this game at the Big House. What's your thoughts
on Washington and this matchup.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
Well, I mean, you guys could be as cocky as
you want when you got a quarterback that accounts for
four touchdowns and over five hundred yards of offense, Like,
I mean, hey, be as cocky as you want. And
so the challenge is there for Michigan Denzel Boston and
the trio receivers that you have Jonah Coleman with what
eleven touchdowns to this point and what over fifteen explosive
(25:26):
plays from that running back position, Like, there's a lot
to be concerned about with with this Washington offense. And
the one thing I will say is this Michigan defense
is their backs are against the wall. This is a
very proud, prowdful defense. And Wig Martindale is going to
have have some answers. He's going to get some guys
(25:46):
to play a little bit better. They're gonna tweak what
they're doing because last year, last week against USC, you
already came out with the numbers like that is. I
don't want to say it's an embarrassment, but the way
that USC went about it feels like these guys have
been challenged. I do believe that they'll respond, and they're
gonna have to because this is an explosive offense. They're
(26:08):
gonna have to find a way to slow down demand.
They're gonna have to find a way to keep Jonah
out of the end zone. And you know our secondary
has already mentioned it's very young, hey, going up against
this talented wide receiver group, it's going to be a
huge challenge.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
John Jansen, former Michigan Wolverine, now on the radio broadcast.
Always love catching up great stuff, man, and we will
talk very soon down the road.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
Thanks man, Thanks a lot. We look forward to seeing
you the Huskies in town this weekend.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
You bet.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
John Jansen again, former Michigan Wolverine offensive lineman. We've got
to break get the Hawks, Texans on the board. Can't
ignore Monday night baby, and then the Husky Hawks at six.
Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey talking dogs right here on ninety
three to three KJRFM.

the dye capital of the Northwest, on Sports Radio ninety
three point three KJRM three.
Speaker 6 (27:22):
All right, we are back at Jimmy's on a busy,
busy Wednesday night. Husky Hanks, Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey, and
don't forget after the game, after Game three, Chuck and
Buck will be here in this exact spot at Jimmy's
on first hopefully celebrating a three nothing lead in the
ALCS and a game away from the World Series. But
if this thing keeps going, and let's hope Dick that
(27:44):
it does not keep going, all right, we got a
potential crazy environment on Monday night.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
We got the Seahawks and Texans at seven.
Speaker 6 (27:52):
Game seven of the Alcs would be there, but it's
set for around five PM.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
I don't know, man. Let me ask you this.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
If disaster strikes the Mariners have to play a Monday
night ALCS game, what are you doing Monday night at
around seven o'clock when that football game kicks off and
the M's are in like the top of the seventh inning.
Speaker 9 (28:10):
The same thing I was doing in Game five of
the Division Series. My butt is in a seat at
a football stadium, and I'm watching the baseball team on television,
so it'll be and and hey, that worked out fine, right,
so maybe it'll work out fine Monday night as well.
The football team won, the baseball team won, maybe we
can get the bulls to happen on Monday.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Well, I was gonna ask.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
It was kind of stupid question, but I figured it's
in my brain, it may as well repeat it.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
What the hell?
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Right?
Speaker 6 (28:34):
Would you take that right now? A Game seven winn.
Of course you would, because that means you're going to
the World Series. Of course sign up for that.
Speaker 9 (28:41):
Though the stress now and then would be unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Well, nothing would get done over the weekend at all
at all. I mean, there's no game on Saturday, so
they play Game six is is Sunday in Game seven
is set for Mondays. So let's hope it doesn't get
to that point. But the Hawks and Texans on Monday night,
I mean, look, this is a fairly significant game for
the Hawks. They're coming back home where they're four and
eight under Mike McDonald they're ten and one on the road.
(29:09):
We've been saying it, harping on it. They've got to
prove they can start to win games at home. And again,
I mean, these are I don't have any problem, and
I think there's no issue now. I think the Hawks
made the right move going from Pete Carroll to Mike McDonald.
They made the right move right going from Geno Smith
to Sam Darnold. But the one thing that Pete Carroll
was always good for was a victory in prime time
(29:31):
at home. And that's where these guys are at. So,
my god, I don't know if there's ever been a
Seahawks second year head coach who was kind of under
a little more pressure than Mike is to start winning
some freaking games at home.
Speaker 9 (29:43):
Well, part of the reason that they didn't before win
games at home is they just weren't that good.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Right, But they're that good now, Yes, they're so.
Speaker 9 (29:50):
I mean that that should help just by osmosis, that
should help the bring the home record off this Houston
Texans team, though this is a team I thought would
win the and if you take a look, they've won
two games in a row and their three losses are
by five at the Rams, and by one against the
Buccaneers and by seven at the Jaguars. This I think
(30:11):
is a legit Houston Texan team that will win nine games,
that will compete for Indianapol with Indianapolis to win that division,
and so it's not going to be a pushover game.
But I do think this is the game Seattle wins
by a touchdown or so and gets a point in
the win column.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
It's funny how both God, there's so many comparisons and
so many similarities and parallels every year to the Huskies
and Seahawks. Right, Like, Huskies have a bad offensive line,
Seahawks have a bad offensive line. Seahawks don't have any
wide receivers. The Huskies don't have any wide receivers. Huskies
have a bad secondary, Seahawks have a bad secondary. And
I think both teams, and I actually trust, I think
(30:49):
it's obvious. I assume you agree the Huskies to run
the ball more than I do the Seahawks to run
the ball because the Huskies have I think better talent
and they've proven it right, they just have gone a
different way about it. Like I talked to Jimmy Doherty
the other day before the game of Michigan. He's like, yeah,
we know we can run the ball, but it's just
it's been different people that we've needed, and you know,
(31:10):
different approach and different schemes. So I just think for
the Hawks, man, if they truly are going to be
in this NFC and I think they can be in
the NFC race because I think it's wide open. They
gotta get this damn running game going, and that starts
this Monday night against Houston.
Speaker 9 (31:23):
It's stunning to me, and we mentioned this with Hugh
back on Monday that if you would have told me,
and I just off the top of my head, I
think it's like twenty third in yards and twenty seventh
in yards per carry something like that. They're in the
bottom ten in the NFL in both rushing yards both
and rushing yards per carry. If you'd have told me
that at the beginning of the year and said what's
their record after six games, I would have flipped it.
(31:44):
I'd have said they're two and four, right, they are
two and four and in deep, deep trouble. But instead
they're four and two because they got a quarterback that
has one hundred plus passer rating and does such a
great job on play action even when the running game
isn't working.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
I think the two best things about the Hawks right
now are Sam Darnold and Mike McDonald's scheme.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Those are the two things.
Speaker 6 (32:03):
That's the biggest reason why this football team is where
they're at, and it's the biggest reason why I think
they got a great shot to win this division. When
nobody in Vegas thought they had a shot to win
the West.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
We did. It's unbelievable, but the odds were what they were.
Speaker 6 (32:17):
All Right, We're gonna break the Husky Hawks regularis Mario Bailey, Dude,
Michigan U dub my god, another big one? They get
this thing in their six and one, Holy hell, would
be I think the biggest win of Jedfish's career. They
can walk into the Big House, gonna win on Saturday.
The Husky Hawks next on ninety three three KJRFM.
