Speaker 3 (00:35):
All right, boys and girls, here we go, getting ready
for a big game on Saturday. UW Ducks A thirty
pregame show twelve thirty kickoff right here on ninety three
to three KJR FM.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
We have a lot to get to.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
We do have, by the way, three pairs of tickets
to give away for the Husky game with the Ducks
on Saturday. And I did not want to put anything
on Twitter because I did not want Oregon fans to
win them, so I'm keeping it secret. Just us on
the radio. All right, guys, just you need tickets for
the game Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I'll take them.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Okay, just give them on to Mario, all three pairs,
give them six seats, all right for the game on Saturday.
So here's the deal. Keep listening about four to forty
five or so. Final segment, we will ask you a question.
You got text in the answer to four nine, four
to five to one. First three in, we'll win a
pair of seats for the game with the Ducks on Saturday. Well, boys,
we got some decisions to make here, all right. How
(01:24):
much time do you want to devote to talking about
the win against UCLA on Saturday night in front of
about four.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
People at the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
There may be more people than in the studio right
now than there were at the Rose Ball on Saturday.
And how much time do we devote to talking about
the game of the year against the Ducks on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Greg, we've already spoken too much about the UCLA game.
We're moving on. We're done. Mario. How about you? What's
your vote? We gotta go thirty.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
We got to talk about a little bit of that
UCLA game because we have to figure out what we're
going to do against the Ducks.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Okay, well, what did you see against UCLA that makes
you feel good?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
About what's going to happen Saturday against the start there.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
The defense, the defense played well the entire game. They
could have shut them out, They should have shut them out.
I thought the defense kept us in the game because
the offense struggled in the first half and our defense,
like I said, they've just gotten continually better. But our offense,
even though you can look at Demon's stats or you
look at the score of the game, our offense struggled
(02:22):
in the first half. You look at Audric Harris is
that name. You look at Oddric Harris stat line, it
might be one catch for negative yards or something, Orodric
Harris should have had over one hundred yards. Damon missed
him on a couple deep throws, and that's disappointing. Our
young running back, I can't think of his name. Jordan Washington.
(02:43):
Jordan Washington, not Oregon Washington. Jordan Washington knew that you're
just playing well well, Jordan Washington. I thought we could
have after his game last week or two weeks ago
against Purdue, I thought we would highlight him or figure
out ways to get in the ball. He ended up
with four carries. Yes, I do that. We we had
a nice rushing game, but I thought coach could have
(03:03):
figured out he's a play caller. I thought he could
have figured out ways to get him the ball. But
all in all, the offense played well in the second half,
but it felt like UCLA had just laid down. So
this game, you can you can say like our defense
is great, but can we stop a juggernaut that that
Oregon offense looked great?
Speaker 6 (03:21):
Now, none of that matters comes Saturday, because we are
not playing guys in powder blue uniforms running around at
the Rose Bowl with nobody watching. A quarterback that couldn't
hit the broadside of a barn, the offensive line that
couldn't block my sister. I think the UCLA team is
just horrible there. I mean, that program right now is
in the toilet. I mean, they just are. And it's
(03:43):
I'm sure sad for UCLA fans that they got to
sit back and watch, you know, their program be in
the state that it in. I remember before the game
someone was saying, and I was watching, you know, some
college football show, and they were talking about, you know,
the UCLA coaches have played done well enough to maybe
earn a job somewhere, maybe not there, but they've shown
that they can.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I was like, I watched them.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
Have a holder flip the ball backwards over his head
to somebody who I can't even name, and the ball
landed on the ground and we picked it up and
Randi score a touchdown. We won a game where you know, again,
I said after the game, I wouldn't nitpicked too much.
We didn't play that well last week. UCLA is just awful,
and so that won't have any bearing on this week.
(04:23):
Our defense is going to have to go up against
the team who has a really good offensive line, a
great running game, a quarterback who's playing extremely well. I
know their receiving corps for Oregon has been injured and depleted.
I hope the god they're even more depleted comes Saturday,
because I don't care if we play fake guys in
the Oregon uniform. As long as we win, that's all
that matters to me. So I don't care if they're
(04:44):
at full strength they're not. What I am hoping though,
is is that we are at full strength. We had
a lot of guys missing last week as well, and
I'm sure that contributed somewhat to, you know, our ability
to not play that well. We got to win on
the road. That's great, But I'm ready to start talking
about what does this look like? Because for me, this
is what the season is all about.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Wait, so I'm trying to figure out just by the
tone of voice over here, and I'm like, I'm kind
of confused.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
So do you feel better.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
About their odd Saturday versus Orgon after what you saw Saturday?
Or do you feel worse about their odd Saturday after
what you saw?
Speaker 4 (05:18):
It hasn't changed at all. It hasn't changed.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
I don't show any kind of way.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
It was a scrimmage. You got it.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
It was a practice game, and you held out your
best players because you didn't want them to get hurt
in the scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
That's not true.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Jed Fish ran Jonah Coleman on fourth and one, up
thirty four to seven with twelve minutes to go on
the fourth quarter and a knee brace bigger than Mario by.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
The way, because he was going into one yard and
he was not trying to run him down the field.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
He wasn't trying to have him try to miss.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
I mean, he was literally trying to plow him in
behind a big offensive line for one yard, which I
get why he did that.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Kudos to him. He's a player's coach. He keeps promises.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
The guys love him where you know, let's be glad
he didn't twist his ankle accidentally or it's me or
whatever on that play because that but I for one,
and this is you know again, you guys know, we
sit here in the studio. We have no insider information.
We're not connected to the program where we get you know,
those real details. We're speculating. I'm just saying that to
(06:14):
preface my comment. Jonah Coleman does not look like he's
going to be one hundred percent to me, having played
the running back position, having had a knee brace on before,
seeing him kind of drag his leg a little bit,
not be able to I don't see any way in
just the amount of time from Saturday to this Saturday
that he comes back and he's at one hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
I just don't see it. I thought we should have
kept him out. There's no way you pulling in for
those four plays and let him run the ball. But
I'm gonna say to you again, it does matter because
our offense struggled the entire first half like we're gonna
play Oregon, and then one of the best teams in
the country. We needed an offense. We kept talking about
they played better at home, but we needed them to
(06:54):
get some continuity. If we got all these guys out,
we needed them to do something and make some plays.
If I'm if I'm playing Washington, all I'm doing is
making demand Williams have to throw the ball downfield and
keep him in the pocket. They're not gonna We're not
being able to run the ball. And you keep saying
we have a good passing game. We have a not
(07:14):
a great passing game. Not a good passing game. We
have a very average passing game, and we're gonna have
to step it up to even be in competition this week.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
So you think that the Oregon coaches were sitting around
watching the UCLA game to figure out how they're gonna
play Washington.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I think we think.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
They're watching the UCLA game and the Wisconsin game to
stop off.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
They've already seen what they need to see on how
they're gonna play us. I think the UCLA game didn't
really have any bearing on that for a couple of reasons.
Here's why they know. Everybody knows we play different at
home than we do on the road. Everybody sees that.
They know that the team that's on film at UCLA
is not going to be the same personnel. They know
it's not gonna be the same temperament, it's not gonna
(07:56):
be the same anything. They got to go back and
look at the Illinois game. They gotta go back and
look at the games that we played at home to
get an idea of what they're going to see. And
they know coming in the Husky Stadium for them is different.
It's just like how we always say, Mario, we're gonna
regardless of how Organ's play, We're gonna get the best
orgon team ever. They know coming in the Husky Stadium
(08:17):
is not gonna look like it looked at UCLA or
Wisconsin or any of that. So I'm just saying from
that perspective that game doesn't mean a whole lot. I
think it was keep everybody healthy, try not to get
anybody hurt. Let's get through this game, and then let's
come back to Seattle. Yeah and play our best football
that we played all year.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Well, you could be right that.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
You know, look, it's not gonna have any impact on
the game on Saturday. Like Washington did not pick up
any extra secrets about themselves or confidence that they can
carry with them to the organ game. I mean, I
thought Ucla just quit after the field goal. I mean,
it's thirteen to nothing with a buck forty five to
go in the second quarter, like we're talking about at
the bar. Just take the points, or at least try
(09:00):
and take the points, get the ball first to start
the second half, and maybe you get a freak play
and it's a thirteen to ten game instead.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Remember the big vacuum cleaner in spaceballs? Remember that? Okay,
it just sucked all the air out of that.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
It's like whatever confidence anybody had that UCLA might might
be able to make it a game was gone after
that fuel goal, and you had thirty two minutes of
clock time left and UCLA just packed it in. But look,
I'm kind of a Mario that you know that with Mario, Well,
that's not necessarily true.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
I'm only with Mario when I want to be right
the time with Mario.
Speaker 7 (09:34):
Kay.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
They're gonna have to be something that they're not, I think,
to win this game on Saturday, right, they're gonna have
to be a much better running team than they've been
they're gonna have to be a much better downfield passing
team than they've been, and I think, frankly, they're gonna
have to be a better coach team than they've been
on Saturday versus dud because, guys, to me, everything started
in some ways offensively with that draw touchdown by Deman Wi.
(10:00):
I think they've been sitting on this weapon of DeMont
Williams legs for a reason. They don't want to get
the guy killed. Obviously, if there's ever a day to
bring it out and say the hell will it, it's
this Saturday.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
We've been saying that all season. We've been hoping that
they would call runs for him, and they did, and
two times that they did call he scored a touchdown.
We hope and we know that if we have any
chance to win. Me and Gregor said this over and
over again, Demon Williams is gonna have to come out
and play spectacular. But what we saw against the UCLA
we haven't seen as much is the deep pass. He
(10:33):
just cannot seem to throw it. He's throwing the underneath,
and he's throwing some intermediate routes, but going deep again.
We should have had a couple touchdowns. They're gonna make him.
I haven't seen this run the entire time in the
schedule and the Big Ten, we haven't run consistently. Coach
Fish doesn't actually keep running the ball, but we haven't
been able to crack ten twelve yard runs unless it's
(10:54):
against a produce. So we're gonna have to figure out
something this week.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
It's obvious that we're gonna have to be something. We're
not different, softie because we're playing the number six ranked
team in the country and we're ranked what not, thank you,
So they're better to right now. My point is no,
they're better team. So we're going to have to step.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Our game up. Absolutely.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
We all, I think we're all in agreement there and
what does work well? Yes, Demond Williams running the football
early in the season, we saw some of that. I
think to some degree, you have a tendency to get
away because your quarterback running the ball for twelve straight
games in the Big Ten, you know, over and over
and over is probably not a recipe for success. You know,
(11:34):
we know he's a tough guy, we know he's willing
to do it.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
It's wait twelve, yeah, let's go. And that's what I'm
saying right now, You're right, every all stops.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
We have to be better than we've been all season
if we want to win this football Do you guys.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Remember playing games like that where you just kind of
not necessarily changed the game plan, but you did something
much better than you had been doing, or even maybe
the exact opposite.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Remember a game like that when Greg Lewis got hurt,
we had to go to Washington State, and then we
started throwing the ball and then we dominated. We scored
fifty points.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Say, let me say this off the net game, Bean
O'Brien and Jay Berry ran for over one hundred yards,
both of them, so they didn't stop running the ball.
They just had two guys doing the work of just one.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Yeah. Well, this is a game on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
I hope that Jedfish and company take what happened last
year against the Ducks to hearts because that was an embarrassment, Right,
it was an embarrassing game for you, dub. There's reasons
why it was like that. We all understand the context
of last year. You had no line. I asked Jedfish
yesterday why this team is better prepared to play in
a game like this, and he flat out just said
(12:41):
last year, we couldn't block anybody, right, he just admitted it.
And now we have a much better offensive line. How
much better are they were about to find out, But
even he talked about kind of what this Oregon game
means to him. He's players and what it would mean
down the road if they won the thing.
Speaker 8 (12:57):
They understand how big it is for the alumni, they
understand how big it is for the fan base. But
I don't think anybody wants to win more than the players.
Right and right behind the players are the coaches, and
then is everybody else. And I think that for our kids,
they're gonna put everything into it. They're gonna pour everything
into it because for the rest of their lives they're
gonna either have won or lost the game that they
(13:18):
played this Saturday against Oregon, And same with the coaches
and fans will have next year and the kids they
may or may not, and they're gonna play this game
as hard as they possibly can. We're gonna lay everything
out there, We're gonna see the outcome. Whenever the outcome
is a scorell take care of itself. We're not gonna
look at this scoreboard until the game is over, but
(13:39):
we're gonna do everything we possibly can to play our
best game on Saturday, knowing that we are young, knowing
that we're building this program the way we want to
build it, knowing that we're gonna do everything we possibly
can to give them everything we have.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I gotta be honest with you. I kind of like
that approach by him. I don't know what your thoughts
are on hearing that quote from Jed, but you look.
I mean, we had the Gazilla again losses in a
row to Oregon, but then we had seventy in twenty sixteen,
and then we had the game in Seattle two years ago,
and then we had the game in Vegas two years ago,
which is the biggest game these teams have ever played.
So there's always going to be another chance for us
(14:13):
as fans. But for Jonah Coleman and guys like Carver
Willis and all the other seniors on this team, they
won't have any more chances.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
This scrapp will stay with them for the rest of
your life.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I know we bust your balls about that UCLA game,
but I know that that keeps you up at night.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
You think about that game, don't you. Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (14:30):
I mean It had a huge impact on my career,
you know, even beyond playing at the University of Washington.
That's the other part of this. There's some guys, Yes,
it's the last time they'll get a chance to play Oregon.
But there's some guys that this is the last time
they'll ever play in Husky Stadium.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
And you know, some guys besides the bowl game, this
will be the last time they ever suit up and
played football patter night.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
Some guys careers are coming to an end. So you
got to make the most of those. And when you
can go say that last time you went out. I
know Mario can hold on to this. The last time
he went out played in a big time you know,
college football game where Mintson was in the Rose Bowl
and won a national championship. And he's revered for that
because he did nothing else in his life. But he
(15:10):
couldn't have done that. He can always hold on to No,
I'm just kidding you, mister Vice President, sit next to
me here.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
But that's something that they can remember forever.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
And you know, we've had many Husky legends and stuff
come on the radio show, Mario and they most of
them always talk about one of their greatest moments was
an Oregon win or that last time they played or
that big Bowl game win. So it does mean a
lot to these kids, and they do have just this moment.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Well and then and Mario, these these teams are in
some ways.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Greg talked about the rankings and all that stuff, but
I mean, who is Oregon beating besides USC.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
Nobody, nobody, and and they lost and and and it's
one of those things like Washington State, like we always
throw out the record when Washington State when we played
Washington State, and that's what I said.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I hate.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
I hate that we feel like, uh, the Cougars in
this like we have to beat Oregon and would make
our entire season because that's how it was every year
that we played Washington State when they played us, and
if they could beat us, it would make their entire season.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
You're saying, you feel like the Cougars right now, if
you can win this game, season.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
It is, it doesn't matter what Both yourself and I
hate that. But back to what Greg was saying, when
you leave the stadium, like I remember the last time
walking out of Husky Stadium and I was getting to
see coach Gilbertson. We had this big hug when we
beat Wazou. And I remember Greg's last time he walked
out on a stretcher, the last time he played in
(16:35):
Husky Stadium, you know what I mean. So you're gonna remember,
and I'm busting him up thirty five years later, but
it's something that you remember for him.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
No doubt. All Right, here's what we got.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
We got three pairs of take us to give away
for the game on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Keep listening.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
We'll throw you a question coming up of four to
forty five, and the first three to respond with the
answer will win a pair of seeds for the UW
Oregon game on Saturday. We'll get to our defensive lay
the game brought to you by Mitzubishi Heating and air
Conditioning that's coming up next on the radio show. Here
a little bit from Dan lanning his thoughts on this game.
How much will he sweat during the game on Saturday?
(17:11):
We'll find out, uh. And we're gonna talk about the
matchup because in some ways you got a couple teams
that stats wise are pretty evenly matched except for a
couple of big ones that do not benefit you. Dub
also the question about Jed Fish and his future and
what's more important this game Saturday or Jedfish to return
and do it again in year three and bring the
gang back. That's all Next on the Husky Honks on
(17:32):
ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Now back to the Coors Life Husky Honks on Tuesdays.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
Ray Lewis, Mario Bailey and Dave Sati.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Mulley on your Home for the Husky Sports Radio n
three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 7 (17:46):
This one from the left as mark for forty six
placement down.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
They're gonna fake it, throw it over the shoulder and
the ball's gonna get picked up.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Outs mclough when he's off and running.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Hit the fifty.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
There he goes any right side.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Alex mclough little go all the way his second touchdown
of the year and the Washington Huskies taken intended trick
play by UCLA and turn it into a browing disaster.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
We're back on the Husky Hawks. Time for the Defensive
Player of the Game. Rat to you buy our friends,
our good friends who we just met at MITSUBC Heating
and Air Conditioning. They bring the hyper Heat Defensive Player
of the Game powered by Mitsubishi Heating and Air Conditioning.
Find your local home comfort MVP. Their website is ducklesshomecomfort
dot com. I think because it's duckweek, they should just
(18:32):
change it to home comfort dot com. Just get it
out of there, right, ducklesshomecomfort dot Com to find out
more about our friends at mitsubc Heating and Air Big
Husky sponsor, and we appreciate them. They're actually sitting here
in the studio now, so we have to talk nice
about them. We have no choice.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Who's your defensive MVP from Saturday Night?
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Greg, I'm not changing And I know you guys like to,
you know, be ordinary, and I'm always the guy or
you know, likes to do things differently. But I go
with the whole starting defensive units defenses. It is not
you're just not creative soft you have a small mind, right,
I'm here to expand your mind. This defense doesn't have
(19:13):
one superstar that stands out, no monster pass rush guy,
no defensive back who's Deon Sanders like.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
They're just a collection of really good guys.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
And so the number one defense this week because I think,
you know, everybody deserves a shout out for the great
seats let's ask Dick Barry what he thinks about your
naming the whole defense is your defensive MVP.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
All right, Jackson, what do you think? Fair? Unfair? Good,
gol wrong golf. He didn't like it either. Yeah, he spoke,
I'm the only real football mind here.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
So that Alex McLoughlin says that every week, every week.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
The standout in our defense. And he scored his second
touchdown of the season. That was on special teams. It
doesn't matter a defense, it doesn't matter. It was the
defense out He could be the special team player. Defense
out there could be the special teams the defense out there.
And that's why he made the play. It was the
field goal block. No, it wasn't the actual you played football,
(20:08):
I did. The field goal block team is a actual.
They were expected the defensive guys on it. They were
expecting UCLA to be desperate. And Alex mcgloughlin twelve old, faithful,
Oh faithful, he's making players. Made the play and he
led the team and tackles and again he's the defensive.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
Here's what happened. Greg didn't watch the game. He was
there with you watching the game. What are you talking about?
He passed out at Toms.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
And right, so he saw that the Huskies fourteen, So
he says, oh the hell was I just take the
chart and plays you're talking about? You were charting chicken
wings is what you were charting at Toms on Saturday night.
Well here's the deal, guys. Oregon number nine scoring defense
in college football, Huskies nineteen, so two of the top
(20:56):
twenty scoring defenses in college football. Scoring offense, Oregon number eight,
Husky's number nineteen rushing offense. This is where Oregon has
a bit of an advantage over you. Debnet's war. I
really believe you. Dub has to go back to their
roots and it opens up everything on Saturday night. Man,
you mentioned Joonah Coleman's got the knee brace on. He
won't be one hundred percent. We know that Muhammed's coming
(21:17):
on a little bit. Jordan Washington's certainly coming on. But
Demon Williams, this is the kind of game to me
where he's got a run for seventy five yards. If
U Dub's gonna win this game. Number eight rushing offense
in college football versus the number fifty seven rushing offense
in college football. If I would have told you that
back in July, Greg, that would have been a disappointment
for you.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Yeah, I think you know, we come into the season
believe that we had to have a really productive run
offense because we were breaking in a young quarterback. We
didn't have a bunch of guys across the board at
the receiver position who are dynamic. We've been We talked
half the season about who's our number two receiver? Who's
our number two receiver? For a while it was Joana Coleman.
Now we know so Yeah, but I think for us
(21:58):
this game, coming you know it out to the Oregon game,
you were one hundred percent right, So this is smartest
thing I've heard you say all year. Demand Williams has
to be a big part of our run game, and
that's even exemplified even more because I don't think Joonah
Coleman is one hundred percent And as much as I'd
like Adam Muhammad, he runs hard, he got tough yards
(22:18):
last week. Washington is a speed guy and when they're
big holes there, yeah he can take it the distance.
But I don't know if those things are gonna be true.
Joonah Coleman is your true back. Make guys miss bounce
big plays, make big plays out of short gays, and
really be a grinder. And so without him being one
hundred percent, I think we need demand to step in.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Aren't you more likely to get those one on one
matchups downfield that you're talking about if there's a threat
of demand taking off and a threat from the start
of demand taking off.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
Yes, if we're doing some design runs and having demon
out there. But we only did a few, like I said,
last game, and we haven't been but we could have been.
Greg said, we went to the UCLA game and we
started not really having to play. We could have been
holding that for this Oregon game. So but Adam Mohammad
ran the best I've seen him run all year. He
made some people miss. He was running hard. So we're
(23:09):
gonna see him because Greg is absolutely right, there's no
way you can wear that big brace on your knee
on Saturday and the next Saturday you're just out there running.
Speaker 7 (23:18):
Well.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
This is and then just conversely, this is the number
nineteen scoring defense in college football, Like we should be
going into this game thinking our defense is good?
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Are they good?
Speaker 1 (23:28):
We're gonna find out how good they are Saturday. Are
you waiting to see how good this defense is.
Speaker 6 (23:32):
Well, I think our defense is good because I believe
that one they've gotten better over the course of the year, right.
I think also if you look at how they play defense,
they don't give up the big pass play. They don't
allow you to throw chunk yards down the field, which
means you're gonna be in the ballgame for the most
part because the other teams aren't scoring quickly. There haven't
even been a lot of forty plus yard runs. So
(23:54):
I think this defense does a good job of keeping you,
you know, from making those big chunk yardage plays, keeping
the score down. And they played extremely well against everybody
in the red zone. I believe Ohio State came in
here and got the you know when we ran that
zero blitz and everybody blitzed out and they got that.
I haven't seen us run that as much anymore, especially
in the red zone. So I think Ryan Walters is
(24:15):
scheming a lot better. This defense, I believe will be
able to keep organ under control. Organ is not as
good as they were a couple of years ago with
both Knicks and Bucky Irwin and all of those guys. Yes,
so this is a defense that I think can keep Oregon.
You know, under that thirty part, we haven't given up
the most we've given up all years, twenty five points.
So I think the defense will play well enough to
keep us in this game.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Regardless of what Orgon does. I think Oregon does.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Something that always concerns me is our defense is the
middle of the field, our backers and our safeties and coverage.
They go tour their tight end a lot. They don't
have a Troy Franklin or Ted Johnson on the team,
or if they do, they just have any merged yet.
But they go to the middle of the field and
like and I think that that's the weakness in our
defense and coverage. So I'm just looking looking forward to it.
(25:00):
Greg said, our defense is played better each week, right,
but this is a different task.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Yeah, they don't have there's not a Bucky Irving. Like
you said, there's not a Test Johnson. Their leading receiver
is Sadiq, partly because of injuries to other guys, but
he is their leading receiver.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
He's got eight touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
For God's sake, Sadik does thirty six catches for for
eighty and eight touchdowns. He's listed at six four two
forty five at tight end number eighteen, so he's a
guy to keep an eye on.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
I just wonder two things.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Is Dan Lanning going to have a guy fake an
injury again in this game on Saturday guarantee? And how
aggressive will he be on fourth and crazy?
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (25:37):
If he pulls that nonsense again Saturday, that's going to
be an opening greg and Mario for the Huskies to
take advantage and get a cheap, easy score. They have
to turn them away if they start getting nuts again.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
I think he said throughout the course of the year
some interviews and things that he's probably been way more
aggressive in his first couple of years. I think he
has stepped back a little bit on going forward on
all the fourth downs. I think he's learned kind of
his lesson against the Hussies last year. I don't think
we ever got him to a fourth down, so it
didn't really matter. Hopefully defensively this year, we do put
(26:08):
him in a lot of third downs, third and longs,
that kind of thing, and our defense has been really
good on third down. You know, conversions are stopping the
other team, So you know there's gonna be some decisions
that Landing is going to have to make. During this
game where he may have to take a chance, and
I think he will hear and there, but I don't
think he'll be all out going forward on every fourth down.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Well, you're right.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Last year, Mario, Oregon scored forty nine points and only
had to face third down eight times in that game
and zero fourth downs. I mean, that was just an
absolute ass beating by Oregon last year in Eugene.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
So how much would that piss you off? For this
game Saturday?
Speaker 5 (26:43):
Everything about them pisses me off and piss everybody off.
We're going into this game. We have nothing to lose.
We have everything to gain from this game. So guys,
if you're hurt, you gotta strap it up and get
get on the field. We're just going in guns, blaze
and foot these guys all right.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Due that we're gonna break.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
We have three pairs of tickets to give way for
the game on Saturday, courtesy of our palas at Mitsubishi
Heating and Air. By the way, we're gonna come back

studio with me. Be one of the first three to

Speaker 7 (27:33):
Here's a snap, holds it out. He's gonna run Demond
william straight ahead, twenty fifteen speed to the left side.
Ten come head to the left, pilot is he in
waiting for the signal?
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Two walks up?
Speaker 7 (27:44):
Touchdown Washington, twenty five yards to mon Williams just hit
the be button and angled off to the left. As
Demond Williams scampers into the end zone for his fifth
rushing touchdown of the year and the Huskies take a
two score lead at the Rose Ball.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
I'm like Adam Driver. Maybe I want more. I want more.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
I want more, more, more, more and more.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
You know who Adam Driver is. By the way, if
you're a Star Wars fan, you know who Adam Driver is.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
Come on, that's the worst Star Wars that you can
never imagine.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
This should have never brought it back, destroy my child.
If you can quote me episode four five six Rogue
one or the Mandalorian by the way, where somebody says
more more, more and more and more.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Then I'll quote that.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
But I don't think anybody did, so I got no choice, man,
I want more Demon Williams. By the way, if you
want tickets for the game on Saturday, text your first
and last name to four nine four five one and
the answer to this question, who did Greg Lewis pick
on the ear to be his defensive player of the game?
Courtesy of Mitsubishi Heating and Air Conditioning. Find him on
(28:47):
the web at ducklasshomecomfort dot com. Who did Greg Lewis
pick to be his defensive player of the game? Send
it in the four nine four five one with your
first and last name right now. First three answer Jackson,
We'll give a pair of seats for the UB Oregon
game on Saturday. Jed Fish. We heard from Jed on
what this game means to him. You want to hear
(29:09):
from the enemy. How about Dan Lanning on the matchup
with the Dogs and the series with you, dub.
Speaker 9 (29:16):
It's definitely an important rivalry to this kame means a lot.
It's probably the number one question I get asked when
I'm out on the road with donors and support groups
and talking about our university is about this game. It's
one that I struggled with early on when I was here,
you know, to start, they had some success against this,
so it means a lot to me. It's one that
I want to have success in. And they're role coached.
I mean, Jed does a good job. They have good players.
(29:36):
They've done a really good job in talent evaluation. They're
quarterbacks playing as well as anybody right now, got good wideouts,
got good back I know they've been a little banged up.
It sounds like they're getting healthy similar to us. You know,
we've been banged up. So ultimately, though, you see a
complete team, you know, and then two fan bases that
don't like each other, which makes it fun.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Okay, a complete team with a guy that's playing as
good as anybody in the country. Is that coach or
do you al ready believe all that from the coach
of the organ Ducks?
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Mario?
Speaker 5 (30:04):
He's lying, I mean he's not actually he's lying right
now that that's not what's going on. That's not how
we're playing DeMont is spectacular, but we're not playing that
will We are have a bunch of injuries, but he's
just trying to make sure he pumps it up. But
if he's telling the truth, that's not how we're playing.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Right, are gregor? Are we disappointed in the year that
Demont's had? I mean, go back to the sun Ball, right,
and how excited everybody was coming out of that game
into the offseason. We saw a guy that, yes he
was playing some backups on defense, but man, was he
accurate downfield in that game. That was an impressive performance
throwing the ball by DeMont Williams. Are we disappointed in
the year that Demon Williams has had.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
I guess we can say that the expectations rose extremely
high and we all got super excited after watching that game,
and then we saw a game earlier this year where
he threw for four hundred and ran for one hundred ruckers. Yeah,
and we're like, man, this guy can be, you know,
a Heisman Trophy winner, and I still think those things
(31:05):
are possible for him. I think, though, when you sit
back and think about it, a nineteen year old in
his first year starting, I think he's had a good season. Overall,
I think what's been disappointed is is he hasn't figured
out himself how to have that same amount of success
and whether it's focused, attention, nerves, or whatever, to play
(31:27):
on the road as well as he has at home.
So I think overall, I would say, you know, he's
had a very productive season, a good season, but because
we see his ceiling, it might be a little disappointed.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
That's one of the reasons why you might be a
little more positive about Saturday, because the guy's got ten
touchdowns and no picks at home. He's got six picks
on the road. I mean, most of his mistakes have
taken place away from Husky Stadium. But there's a lot
of storylines, Mario, you know, with this team right now,
we just got an email from Bovada, who's got Jed
Fish as the heavy favorite now to land the Florida job,
(32:00):
the one to one favorite to land the Florida job.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
With the word, the rumor or.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
The assumption that Lane Kiffin takes the LSU job. So
he wins the game Saturday, and his stock's gonna go up,
and maybe he is a little more attractive to a
place like Florida if they win the game Saturday. So
what's more important beating Oregon even if it means losing
Jed or having Jed come back and coach this team
next year.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Beating Oregon? All right, and most important. I much love
to coach Fish. He's done an amazing job and keeping
this program afloat when Coach de Boy left. But I
was one of those people that said coach de boor
if Alabama came calling me, I would have left too.
And if Coach Fish wants to go somewhere, then let
him go somewhere. I would much rather as finally get
(32:44):
somebody in here that wants to be here for a while.
But I would rather be organ than to have coach Fish.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
So guarantee you the Huskies win Saturday. Greg guarantee it,
but Fish walks. I guarantee you Fish is not going
to walk.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
That's not the question. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
You have to play a long No, Okay, this is
the same guy that picked the whole defense. I don't
play for the Mitsubishi heating and their defensive player of
the game. I am going to take the offer. Do
you take the offer? Guarantee you win the game? Saturday.
But Jed walks to Gainesville.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
Are you in?
Speaker 6 (33:15):
I hate Oregon more than all the people in this
room combined. I hate them for real. I hate the
color green. So I want the Huskies to win regardless
of the outcome. But I'm telling you, Coach Fish is
not going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Congrats to Michael Bellis, Pat Fujita, and Kyle Welsh, who
all understood the assignment by the way, unlet Greg. They
texted in that Greg took the whole damn defense for
his defensive player.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I get the starting defense, the.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Starting defense for his defensive player of the game. If
it's ever defensive players of the game, then you'll be
right on the.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Money, dook.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Here, those guys are all getting tickets for the game
on Saturday. All right, great stuff, Greg Mario will see
eight thirty Saturday morning. All right, final regular season game
of the year, final home game of the year, final
home game for guys like Jonah Coleman and others. Final
time from Husky Stadium on Saturday. So do not be late.
Eight thirty Saturday morning kickoff, twelve thirty Right here on
(34:08):
ninety three three kJ RFM.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
God Dogs,
