Speaker 1 (00:00):
Where we go big news.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
In case you're tuning in the radio station right now,
maybe you have a life, you have a job. You
can't just get glued to radio and social media the
way we can all day. Michigan head coach Sharon Moore
has been fired by the Wolverines after the school found
evidence that he was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with
a staff member. There's multiple reports coming out that it
(00:25):
was a thirty two year old football staff member named
Paide Shiver. There's also reports coming out that he paid
for an abortion for her. He's got a moral turpitude
clause in his contract. And guess what, pal when you
go eighteen and eight over two years at Michigan, they're
a lot more apt to enforce the moral interpretude cause
(00:46):
than they would if you were twenty four and two
over twenty six games. So Sharon Moore's done, and the
question now becomes how do the Domino's fall? I mean,
we just saw how Penn State struggled to find a
replacement for James Franklin. Everywhere they turned, they were getting
rebuffed by everybody, and I don't know where Matt Campbell
(01:07):
was on their list. I mean, look, it's I'm not
saying that Matt Campbell won't work out at Penn State. Hell,
Lorenzo Romar was Barbara Hedges like third or fourth option,
and he was phenomenal at Washington, right, So this might
work out for Penn State. But if you're the Michigan Wolverines,
this doesn't seem to be a great time to be
looking for a big name head coach. There's kind of
(01:28):
a lack of big name guys available out there to
begin with, and I just wonder how down the list
and how creative Michigan gets. I will tell both of
you guys, And I told this to Ian during cross
talk and we were talking about this off the air.
I just caught our buddy Rico Beard in Detroit and
I asked him off the air, I said, who are
you hearing? And the first wards out of his mouth,
(01:51):
your guy is what he said. Your guy as in
Jetfish at Washington was the first name. So they're talking
about that out there for obvious reasons. He's got connections there.
He was there for a couple of seasons. I know
that Michigan's gonna call Mike McDonald. They're stupid if they
don't call Mike McDonald. I thought that was the first name. No,
I thought that's what my men. Your guy is in Jedfishka.
(02:13):
He's got history there. They like the way the offense
was run. They're a little bit desperate right now. Look,
obviously this just happened like an hour ago, right so
there's a lot of dominoes that need to fall. Do
I believe that jedfish is gonna be the next coach
at Michigan.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I don't believe that.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Do.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I think there's a better chance today than there was yesterday.
Of course, the job is now open. It's a very
small percentage. But I just I got this Penn State thing,
Dick in the back of my mind, how tough it
was for them to find a guy, and I just
wonder how far down the list.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
They're gonna have to go before they find somebody. I do.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
I do see Michigan State on excuse me, Michigan on
a different tier than Penn.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
State, as it a higher tier? Yes, the highest team? Yes?
Speaker 5 (02:53):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, correct, there is there.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
If there is a Tier A of college football programs
and there's three or four teams on them, Michigan is
one of them.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
So I do think they would be able to grab
not any coach they want.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yeah, but they would have a much easier time and
a tough time of year to find one than Penn State.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Would I have.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, maybe, I mean I don't think it's as easy
as it was five ors ten years ago. Honestly. I
mean coaches are fleeing college football, man. They all want
to be in the NFL. So, like you know, Jackson
that you may have mentioned McDonald just because of the
obvious he was there for one year in twenty twenty one,
I would be stunned. That's a step down. If Mike
(03:34):
McDonald went to Michigan from the NFL, they're going to
reach out. They weren't going to reach out a percent.
They'll reach out. They'll reach out to everybody, and they should.
I mean, they're freaking Michigan.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
They should.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
They should pick up every phone they've got and call
every There's not one coach Coachigan football, whether NFL, college,
Canadian Football League, high school football, whatever, that Michigan should
not feel they should call because they're Michigan.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
So I totally understand that.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
But the idea of Mike McDonald going from the NFL
to college football and putting up with all the nonsense
that is happening right now. That would stun me, especially
with how well things are going here in Seattle. So
I mean, they're gonna call them, And I gotta tell you, man,
I kind of toss this out to a buddy of mine.
This thing in Vegas doesn't look like it's gonna work.
(04:19):
I might call Pete Carroll if I were the Wolverines
really and just say, why not. Man, you want to
come in here. You want to get this thing rolling
for us again. You want to coach your energetic, your
young at heart. This thing in the NFL is not
going well for you. It's not gonna go well for you.
Why don't you say the hell with it and go
back to college football and give it one more try.
(04:39):
Why not give them a call? But Jack, I'm with you.
They're gonna call everybody. There's a great time to get
Mike Florio on with us right now.
Speaker 6 (04:47):

(05:42):

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Man? Hello about holes? Excuse me?
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Give me you good?
Speaker 7 (05:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:50):
Good?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Can we get the guy glass of water? Please?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
What do you make of the situation that has just
unfolded Mike at Michigan with Sharon Moore getting fired and
who in the NFL? Of note, do you think Michigan
may try and poach for that gig?
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Well? You know. Let me tell you this, at the
risk of being overly cynical, if Michigan were preparing for
a playoff game, we wouldn't have heard anything about this.
Whatever he did to result in inspiring for cause would
not have caused them to fire him. They would have
looked the other way. This is manna from heaven. This
is found money. This is serendipity that you trip over,
(06:31):
an opportunity to avoid to buy out at a time
when you'd be content to find a new head coach.
So they get to start from square one, and we're
four weeks away from the NFL coaching carousel, and maybe
a coach that doesn't get fired would like to go
coach Michigan. It opens up a universe of opportunities.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Is there any sitting NFL coach that's in a good situation, like,
for example, our head coach who was the coordinator in
Michigan a couple three years ago. Would there be any
sitting head coach in a good situation that would potentially
take that job or would have to be somebody that
thought that I might be getting fired in two months anyway.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, look, one of the realities when it comes to
NFL head coaches, their contracts will say plenty about whether
they can leave prematurely to go coach. At the college levels,
it doesn't happen very often. Bobby Petrino voted on the
Falcons in December of two thousand and seven. I don't
think they were all that upset about him leaving because
(07:33):
his one season there was a disaster. When Nick Saban
left the Dolphins. Remember that was December of two thousand
and six, he famously declared, I'm not going to be
the Alabama coach, and then as soon as the season ended,
he was, wait for it, the Alabama coach. His contracts,
we had heard at the time, specifically allowed him to
leave for a college job. So you could get into
(07:54):
question of whether or not your contract allows it. And
depending upon what Mike McDonald has in his contract, he
may not even have the occasion to think about it.
But every coach is different, every circumstance is different. Maybe
McDonald looks at a future that includes the possibility the
team is going to be sold, and we know the suit.
It's not possible, it's inevitable, we just don't know when.
(08:16):
And I'm just throwing out ideas that could cause someone
to say, maybe the grass will be greener somewhere else.
But you know, this is Michigan. It's one of the
short list premiere programs, and so anybody who is at
one hundred percent thrilled where they are has to entertain
the possibility of making that jump. If Michigan would be interested.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, I mean, I think I think you put it well,
Mike when you said a universe of possibilities, right, I
mean I just kind of threw out John Harbaugh. I
don't know what Jim's relationship is like with Michigan that
might preclude his brother from going there. If the run
with the Ravens is coming to an end. I mean,
I might want to just call Pete Carroll and you know,
pick his brain a little bit and see what he
thinks about making a run back to college. But I mean,
(08:57):
would you see a guy like a like a John
Harbaugh potentially leaving the Ravens to go to college to
coach the Wolverines after his brother.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I'll say this, it wouldn't be the first time the
possibility has been on the radar screen, and that would
be amazing if he would go to Michigan.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I don't know that he'd.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Want to go to the place where his brother had
been the head coach. He's got no connection there. He
can go to school there, Jim did. But hey, money
speaks louder than any affiliation and opportunity security. You know,
there's a lot of factors to go into it. Hell,
(09:38):
Mike Tomlin's name may come up, even though Tomlin said
four years ago about the USC job never say never,
but never. But last year or last week, Ben Roethlisberger's
pushing the idea of Tomlin the Penn State.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
We know that ship had sound.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
So it's an interesting little nugget that has dropped into
the punch bowl in time for the holidays. To figure
out what Michigan's going to do next.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
He brought up Pete Are Pete and Gino won and
done in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Look, I don't know, because dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things,
and it's difficult for the rational mind to predict the
behavior of the irrational, and the Raiders have been chronically
dysfunctional and irrational for twenty years now, really ever since
Mark Datas took over, if not some number of years
before that in the latter stage of al Davis's life.
But the question becomes, are they willing to admit that
(10:29):
they screwed this up? Now? Functional teams don't double down
on mistakes. They admit them and they move on. Are
they ready to admit they made a mistake with Pete Carroll,
that they made a mistake with John Spytech, there's nothing
they can do about it, that they made a mistake
with Tom Brady. And I think Brady deserves a lot
more flat for this than he's getting, just because he's
kind of in and out and he's not there all
(10:50):
the time. Mark Davis made it clear Brady got a
sweetheart deal. He got to buy a chunk of that
team at a below market rate because of his expertise
and what he could bring to the organization and what
has he brought to it. It's one of the worst
teams in the NFL right now.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Mike Florio's with us on the radio show.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Mike, we might see a forty four year old grandpa
starting a quarterback for the Colts on Sunday against the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
I mean, what are you kind of hearing about that?
Speaker 2 (11:16):
You know, Riley Leonard, Brett Rippin, now Philip Rivers, who
should the Seahawks you think expect to face a quarterback
on Sunday, Well, I.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Think they should prepare for Philip Rivers. Look, I criticized
the Colts on Monday night when I started thinking back
about the timeline. Here, Anthony richardson week six has an
exercise band snap and suffers an orbital fracture. And that's
twenty two days before the trade deadline came and went.
They had an opportunity to go find someone. Joe Black
(11:44):
would already traded the Bengals, but they could have called
the Giants about Russell Wilson or Jamis Winston. They could
have scoured the depth charts and contacted a team with
three quarterbacks and made them an offer. I think they
decided to ride with Daniel Jones, Riley Leonard, and Brett
Rippon with the fallback the free insurance policy of if
something happens to Jones, We're bringing Philip Rivers to town.
(12:07):
Rivers and Shane Stike and the head coach of the
Colts of State in contact. And it all happened so
quickly injury month Sunday Rivers Monday. I don't think that
that Rivers processed this possibility immediately and was ready to
leave his his thirty eight kids, you know. I mean,
I think they knew that this bat signal was potentially
(12:27):
going to come on, and it did and they mobilized.
So I don't think it was brought in to hold
a clipboard. I think he was brought into play.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Do you think he's a Hall of Famer and the
clock starts over? If so, so he asked to wait
another five years, right, Well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
If he's on the active roster, and I think what
will happen is he'll be on the practice squad. He'll
get elevated to the game day roster. They can do
that for a couple of weeks and basically carry an
extra guy on the team because he's not going to
go sign with someone else as a member of the
practice squad. I really don't care if he's a Hall
of Famer. As time goes by and the more I
do that, the Hall of Fame process, it changes all
the time. The rules are different.
Speaker 7 (13:04):
That you know.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Stupid little petty vendetta is keep people out. It's a
museum in Ohio that relies upon putting a certain number
of bucks in every year to get people to show
up for the one weekend on the calendar cycle where
it's relevant, and I'm just I'm down on the whole thing.
I don't think he gets in early. I think he's
gonna have to wait a while. My gut feeling is no,
but I ultimately don't care. You know, the ultimate team
(13:28):
sport having a hall of fame based on individuals seems
kind of weird to me. And the older I get
and the more I follow the NFL, the stranger it
is that this team sport spend so much time and
effort worrying about honoring individuals.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, are we going to see an AFC playoffs? Kevin
Harlan's coming up with us, Mike. I want to ask
him the same question, get his take, but I want
to get your take first. Are we going to see
an AFC playoffs without Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes this year?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
I mean we could also see it without Josh Allen.
It's crazy when you think about it. We've got a
graphic that we've been using on PFG Live shows the
current standings in the AFC, the playoffs standings one through
seven with the team still alive, and the pictures on
the graphic are Drake May and Bo Nicks, And I
said to Chris Sims the other day, would you have
imagined a year ago this scenario where the Patriots with
(14:18):
May and the Broncos with Nicks have each won ten
in a row, and they are the kings of the
conference and you have to go way down on the
list to get to Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
No one would have seen this coming. I think there's
a chance that none of them make it, although I
think the Bills probably will. Who knows what The Ravens
(14:39):
and the chief The only reason I'm not giving up
on the Chiefs. The example I've been using is the
Chiefs are like the friend that always shows up even
if they're late. And you know Jim was supposed to
be there at ten. The bar's closing it too. It's
one point thirty. Do we leave or do we wait
for Jim to show up? Because if we leave, Jim's
going to show up. I'm not leaving all the Chiefs
(15:00):
until they are mathematically eliminated.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Well, you mentioned the teams that Drake May and bow
Knicks lead. You've got them one two in the rankings,
ahead of the Seahawks and Rams. Why do you like
the two AFC teams better than two top NFC teams?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Well, look, and the power rankings are a throwback from
me to the old days of the AP and UPI polls.
I'm old enough to remember the UPI poll, which became
the usday to day coaches polled, and it used to
be twenty not twenty five. But the winning streaks, the
success like they get one and two the Seahawks, And
this isn't just a bit I'm not pandering. Right now,
(15:36):
the Seahawks are peaking and if they can keep this up,
they're the team to beat in the NFL, not just
the NFC. They've just got to keep it going what
they've done the past couple of weeks and dismantling the
Vikings and the Falcons. They are the dangerous team right now.
They just have to stay in this sweet spot and
carry it into the postseason because we've seen teams sometimes
peak too soon.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Mike Florio, phenomenal job. Has always enjoy the rest of
the week.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
We'll talk next Wednesday, man, Thank you, all right, Mike
Florio with US. Sharon Moore fired by Michigan today. We'll
talk about that. There's already candidate list hitting every website
in America. We'll tell you who the candidates are for
the job. Seahawks. I have not been on the air,
by the way, since they beat the Falcons on Sunday,
(16:21):
and I don't know what the narrative has been on
this radio station for the last two days regarding what
we should be talking about with the Seahawks. But there's
one thing that I think we should be talking about,
and if we're not, I think we're doing it wrong.
Next on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 8 (16:38):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now
back to Softie and Dick on your home for the Huskies,
Kraken and the Twelfth Man Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
All right, we're back on a busy Wednesday afternoon. Lane Lambert,
head coach of the Kraken Man. Come on, let's go, guys,
they've lost six in a row. He will join us
coming up at three forty five Petros at four on
the radio program.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Do we just admit the obvious now with the Petros?
Thing you think or what like? Tell folks, or do
you think we should bring up to Sharon Moore thing
with Petros at four o'clock today probably shuit.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Well, we taped it two hours Okay, Well, then, guys,
here's the thing, all right, and you're smart people out there.
You've been listening to Petros for a long long time.
He's got a show in La at the same time
as we're on the air.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
All right. Unless there's like.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
A baseball game, it gets off early. Ninety nine percent
of the time, it's going to be recorded. No, they
carry the Clippers, I clippers.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
You've also heard a lot of bleeps in that interview,
by the way. Okay, so yeah, so it's going to
be impossible to bring up the Charon More thing with
him because it was taped before the Charon Moore thing
came down. But before we get back to that conversation,
I do want to talk about that a second. I
don't know kind of what the narrative is on the
Seahawks right now around town after what happened against the
(18:02):
Falcons on Sunday, And look, I realized that Falcons aren't
a great football team, But did they not go down
there in two thousand and thirteen or was it twenty
ten twelve in the regular season? Right, remember that you
go on the road to Atlanta and you pummel a
team like that, I don't care how bad that team is.
What they did in the second half on Sunday was
(18:24):
unfreaking believable defensively and offensively. By the way, the job
that Sam Darnold did turning that thing around after how
bad he was in the first half, eleven to fifteen,
a buck eighty two, three touchdowns. Guys, here's the thing.
This is what we should be talking about right here
in Seattle. All of us should be talking about the
Seahawks winning another Lombardy right now, this year, this season,
(18:47):
as in two months from now, we are. The game
is at Levi Stadium in San Francisco, where they have
a sign above the urinal and the men's room that says,
don't drink the water I will drink the water out
of the urinal.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
In the men's room. Go there. If the Seahawks win
the title.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Stadium, they say it's the cleanest water in the stadium.
I'm not saying after somebody's Houston, I'm gonna flush the
damn thing. But guys, if we're not talking about the
Seahawks winning a championship right now, we're.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Doing it wrong. Do get it wrong.
Speaker 9 (19:16):
We spent what two segments over the last couple of
days specifically talking about how good all the teams in
the NFL Seahawks might be the first or second option
when we talk about potential Dinasty ye looks could build something.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
So they've got, according to DraftKings, the number two odds
in the NFL to win the whole thing. Yes, MGM
number two, Fan Duel number three, Caesars number two. They
also have outside of Houston, the number one scoring defense
in the NFL. Texans are number one, they're number two.
I don't know why just did SA number two McDonald
thirteen and two. On the road, they're ten and three.
They have maybe the biggest And I don't want to
(19:51):
look past the Colts on Sunday because we lost to
the Giants. Man, crazy stuff happens, right, But if they
can get this done on Sunday against Indian Annapolis and
get to eleven and three, the game with the Rams
on Thursday night is probably going to be the biggest
divisional game the Hawks have played since the Niner games
in twenty thirteen. Seriously, that's how big this thing is.
(20:14):
If you've seen how much tickets are going for. They're
like three hundred bucks to get in the door at
venue Kings dot com right now.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
So again, I'm proud of you, guys. I'm glad you
went there.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
It's the only thing right now that Seahawks fans should
be talking about.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
And quite frankly, man, guys, I'll be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
I know, Dick, how you hate when one topic dominates
the airwaves and all that stuff. Blah blah blah. It
really is the only thing that matters right now.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
It really is.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
We have maybe the best or second best team in
the National freaking Football League. The airwaves should be jam
packed with Seahawk talk.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
I think we did enough the last few days in
the week. Yeah, a lot of we already jumped in
to the dynasty.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
NY, but no, I mean my opinion, and I think
a lot of Seahawks fans are like me that were
skeptical until they played the Rams right right, and once
they played the Rams and showed to be, in my opinion,
the better football team in that game. They just had
a quarterback that gave it up four times and they
still only lost by two and had a sixty yard
(21:15):
field goal to win it at the buzzer that and
you put that together with what we've seen over the
last two weeks because we have had a lot of
you know, we had three Thanksgiving games, we had a
game the day after Thanksgiving, and a lot of those
teams were seen to be not only playoff but Super
Bowl contending teams. We've seen all these Super Bowl contending
teams play over the last couple three weeks on national television.
(21:36):
I've watched them all and I'm I leave every game
thinking the same thing. My God, that team's not close
to the Serions.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Well they've got I think they might have the best
unit in the NFL with their defense. I mean their
defense is unbelievable. I mean what Nicki Minouri was doing
running around that field on Sunday, unblockable, like a guy possessed.
That was incredible watching him play. Mike McDonald's scheme is
just stupid. He's gonna be a guy that people will copy, right.
(22:05):
I mean people tried to copy Pete Carroll's single high defense.
They just didn't have Earl Thomas and they couldn't run
the damn thing. I think a lot of people are
gonna be running around asking Mike McDonald, How did you
do that? What do you do to get that guy
in that position? So I am again, guys. I mean
it kind of comes out of nowhere, right because you
had a brand new quarterback, second year head coach, brand
(22:27):
new coordinator on offense, a bunch of changes, some new
guys in your line. Nobody was really talking like that
over the offseason. They thought it maybe things go well,
you make the playoffs and whatever we expect the playoffs.
Nobody mentioned Lombardi. Nobody mentioned another Lombardi Trophy over the
offseason and the other part of it. And we'll talk
to Harlan about this when he comes on. The year
(22:49):
five is just this thing's wide open, dude. It's stupid
how wide open this is. I've never seen this much
parody in the NFL. They've got parody, but this is
Chris is parody on crack. This is parody on steroids, Dick.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
And it's because we did not expect all the perceived
elite teams to be mid all the same time. Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo.
Now Buffalo's coming a little bit, but they still have
big holes on the defensive side of that day, and
they have their receiver issues as well. When your best
receivers are tight end, you have receiver issues. So there's
a lot of holes there. Those were the favorite. San
(23:20):
Francisco was a favorite. They've been totally banged up, so
all these favorites in.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
The beginning, they are.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
I think we know why they're nine to four, but
I mean because they've had the easiest schedule in the NFL.
But I mean, they're nine and four, but they're not
the team that everybody thought they were going to.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Be at the NIGA season.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
I don't know, man, I'm just really, guys, here's the thing.
This this could go one of two directions, and they
could not be polar opposites. I mean, this team could
lose in the first round and they could win the
whole thing. Honestly, I mean, it's bananas. The scale of
possibilities for this football team is nuts. And they win
this thing on Sunday, and they win the game next
(23:58):
Thursday against the Rams, and there at that point, they'd
be a twelve and three football team if they win
the next two, because they're ten and three right right now,
ten three. They win the next two, they're a twelve
and three team in the driver's seat for the division.
They got to go to Carolina and win a tough
road game there and then go to San Francisco obviously,
which is always hard down there. But I just think
that this football team the absolute number one thing people
(24:21):
should be thinking Super Bowl. And if it doesn't happen
because you don't win the RAM game and you have
to go on the road and you lose a hard
fought road game, okay, whatever, right, I mean, right now,
if the Seahawks went to Tampa Bay to play the Buccaneers,
I picked the Hawks to win that game. The Buccaneers
are falling apart right now. I would definitely pick them
to win that game. You also got a coaching Mike
McDonald who's thirteen and two on the road in fifteen
(24:44):
games man with the Seahawks, So I love it. I
was super impressed, man, by what those guys did on Sunday.
It's almost like somebody at halftime in the locker room
said that's enough enough and just went out and just
dragged the field with the Falcons in the second half.
If we get a break, Lane Lambert's a little bit
of an opposite story there. They got to get a win.
Man tonight they've lost six in a row, head Coach
(25:06):
of the Crack and I'll join them Petros at four
on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 7 (25:49):
Doing pretty good?
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Well?
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Before we talk about what's happening on the ice, Coach,
we got to talk to you about what happened on
the ice at CPA on Monday between the second and
third period?
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Did you happened?
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Is the uh intermission entertainment with me and my friend
here with the bungee cord battle.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Well, I was told that you guys had quite a
tug of war going there and uh I I you know,
knowing you two guys, I would have liked to have
seen it, but uh, we were too busy. We were
too busy with what we were trying to do.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Well, we'll send you that, We'll send you the video
safe to say that you want neither Softy or me
on your hockey team, that is for damn sure, because
we are.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Not good, not good on the ice.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Well, you know, let's let's start with I know you
never like to lose, but let's start with the positive
from last night. You know, three for three on your
penalty kill. I know that's been an issue all season long.
So talk about what came together there a couple of
nights ago.
Speaker 7 (26:46):
Uh, well, we're working. Uh you know, look at we
we know, we know our penalty killing hasn't been good. Obviously,
it's it's you know, it's no surprise to anyone. It's upsetting.
And it starts right with you know, it starts right
with me. Uh. You know, I've got to be better. Uh,
(27:07):
coaching staff's got to be better, and the players have
to be better. And at the end of the day, Uh,
you know, we made some adjustments. Uh, We're working through
these adjustments on the fly, and I thought our players,
you know, did a did a better job and and
we got some good saves. We've got some good saves
on the penalty killing. You need that. I thought Gruber
(27:29):
played well, and so you know, I'm looking forward to
moving forward with I guess what we would call a
little bit of a new penalty kill system. Nothing's ever perfect,
that's for sure. They've got more guys than you on
the ice and the league, and the talent at the
National Hockey League level, and the power plays is off
(27:51):
the charts outrageous. So you know, you're always going to
give up something, but we're going to try and eliminate
some of the catastrophe or catastrophic things that we've given
up here over the course of the first twenty five games.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Yeah, the last six games have not gone the way
you want it, obviously, coaches are a common theme with
the last six games, or has been something different you
think kind of an each game that has led to
this situation that you guys are in losing six in
a row.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
Well, look at it's really interesting. I mean, obviously the
Edmonton game in Edmonton was a disaster. The common theme
a little bit. You know, our penalty killing hasn't been good,
so you know, getting scored on in our penalty kill
too frequently. I think it's been seven times in the
last six games. That puts you behind. The common theme
(28:41):
is is we're kind of chasing the game a little
bit and instead of playing with the lead. You know,
you ask anybody in this league. It's a lot easier
to play with the lead. But at the end of
the day, I've really liked some of our games. I
liked our Dallas game at home, you know, I like
Car Detroit game at home. And I didn't mind our
(29:03):
game last night at home or the night before at home,
you know, because you know we're right in it against
you know, solid hockey teams, and uh, you know, we're
just we're just having trouble getting over the hump. And
I guess the common theme is that we just make
(29:24):
the smallest of error which turns into the biggest of uh,
you know, the biggest of opportunity for the other team.
And and you know we've had we've had opportunities to
score ourselves. We've hit crossbars, we've hit goalposts, and uh,
you know, it's just not coming easy right now. And
you go through stretches, and you go through patches like
that throughout the course of the season, and it is
(29:45):
what it is. You got to find your way out
of it. You got to stay determined, stay positive, stay focused.
But we've played good hockey for the most part, other
than the Edmonton game in Edmonton, in this entire stretch,
and so for me, that's positive thing about it, all.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Right, La, coming up tonight, I got to shake it off, right,
what's the message tonight? Going to this game against a
team that is captured at least a point right in
seven of their last nine games.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
They're a good hockey team. They're a very big team.
They're built for, you know, playoff lasting, I guess you
could say, and the very experienced veteran hockey team. That's
what they are, and they play the game the right way.
It's going to be very very difficult, you know for us.
I know we haven't scored a lot of goals lately.
(30:35):
We're playing against a team that is extremely hard to
score against. We have to find a way to work
through that, fight through that put a couple of bucks
in the net, and we've got to make sure that
we take care of our own end, very good hockey team.
We're going to play here tonight. It's gonna be a
real challenge for our team, and really for us, it's
(30:55):
it's about getting getting out there and going after it,
you know, finding a way to bring the energy and
stay positive and get through this. You know, things in
this league change quick. Two weeks ago we were you know,
one point out of first place, right and two weeks
from now we could be right back in that position.
(31:16):
You can change things around pretty faster. It goes from
one to the other quickly.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
And finally, coach, I understand, this is the dads and
mentors trip. They'll you got some dads with the players
both this game and at Utah. Tell us what that's
all about in this league.
Speaker 7 (31:31):
Yeah, it's a really important and special thing that you
know that was started a number of years ago, and
there's there's always a little argument as to who started it,
but you know, I think, you know, overall, I think
probably it was the Nashville Predators way back when in
nineteen ninety nine. I think, and you know, it's it's
(31:52):
a way to honor the people and the fathers and
now there's mother's trips you know, and mentors trips, people
who have helped you, you know, through your lifetime and
your career, and especially for those that you know fathers
are no longer with them anymore. It's a really special
event and a special situation to share with your father,
(32:16):
share with your mentor, share with your mother, and on
mother's trips, you know, the experiences that you go through
on a daily basis. We're pretty lucky as individuals here.
It's a privilege to be in the National Hockey League
at any capacity, whether it be coaching, playing, trainers, everybody,
and it's really special to be able to share that
(32:38):
with someone that you love and someone who's helped you
get to that point in your life and in your career.
So looking forward to it and looking forward to our
fathers and mentors giving us some giving us some energy.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Lene Lamber, listen, great stuff, man, appreciate this. Go get
them tonight and we will talk in a week.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
