Speaker 1 (00:00):
There we got this football that's part of our relentless
coverage of the NFL. It's a football Friday sponsored by
Tito's Handmade Vodka, proud sponsor of the Seahawks, distilled in
bundeled by Fifth Generation. Ain't Gooston, Texas forty percent alcohol
I volume, save responsibly.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
This crowd is going ut.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Football Friday is on with Safty and Dick on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
All right, here we go, boys and girls from Tom's
Watch Bar across the street from Climate Pledge Arena. Football
Friday brought to by Tito's Handmade Vodka, proud sponsor the Seahawks,
distilled them bottled by Fifth Generation Austin, Texas, forty percent
alcohol by volume, Saver responsibly. That's a message directly to you,
Dick Fate, Okay, save a responsibly probbin. All right, Dick

(00:52):
is on ten ice. So last time we were here
at top Watch Bar, Dixon one, who's the nothing on,
little unprofessional with the Tito's all right, a little bit
out of control man. All right, Dick, do me a favor.
Just keep your clothes on this time, all right, buddy.
In other news, Sockey did you change your name to Dick.
We are we are professional radio, all right. I want
you to behave like it. All right, you're the voice

(01:12):
of the storm for crying outlined. You can't be goofing
around like that. You're not in high school. All right. Now,
I didn't go that far. I just said keep your
clothes on. We are hanging out until five point thirty tonight.
Mike Benton's got the pregame show here. They're doing a
watch party tonight for the Kraken and the Mammoth tonight.
Lots of news to get to. First of all, the

(01:32):
Sharon Moore story gets crazier by the second Kyle Whittingham
is stepping down. There's all kinds of rumors that are
flying around the country about who the next coach at
Michigan is gonna be. I mean, you can't go. You
can't go look at one list guys of like a
top five or a top ten candidates for the Michigan
job and not see jetfishing, Kaelin de Boor's name on it.

(01:53):
All of them have jetfish on it, and all of
them have Kailin de Bor on it. That doesn't mean
that any of them are getting the job. That if
you talk to the people that set the lines on
these things that are supposedly in the know, and I
can argue if they're in the know or not. To
be honest with you, a lot of them think that
Jetfish and Kaylin de Bores should be near the top
of the list for the Michigan game. I mean, I'm

(02:14):
not sitting here, you know, thinking that Jetfish is gonna
get the Michigan job. I'll tell you what I told
Greg Bell and cross Talk and what I said to
you yesterday and what I said a couple of days
ago that I still think Michigan would have to go
pretty far down their list before they would offer the
job to Jetfish. And it's no disrespect to Jetfish, but
he hasn't accomplished what some of these other guys that
have accomplished yet. So if he had maybe a couple

(02:36):
of you know, big time wins under his belt at Washington,
maybe he'd be on that kind of a level. But
I think Michigan would have to drop, you know, four
or five spots, if not maybe even more down their
list before they would justify offering the job to a
guy like Jed. And look the thing with Kaitlin Man. Look,
I'll tell you what his name is getting tossed around.
He hasn't said anything about it. He hasn't turned it down.

(02:59):
He hasn't he hasn't said I'm staying in Alabama. There's
been a lot of coaches that have been attached to lists,
and you know, I hate to give the guy credit, man,
because it makes me want to vomit. But Dan Lanning,
you know, about a month and a half ago, came
out and shot down any rumor of anything, and he
did it in a way that made you kind of
believe it, to be honest with you, So there's always
that one half of one percent, if not more than that,

(03:22):
that makes you feel skeptical about whatever these coaches say.
But nothing would surprise me. The only thing I know, Dick,
about this coaching circle that we have here, or this
latest cycle, if you will, and the other cycle, the
first one was when Sabin and Harbaugh took off and
disrupted everything around college football, is that guys like Jimmy
Sexton are gonna make a lot of money. For those

(03:43):
of you that don't know who Jimmy Sexton is, he
is a guy who is the biggest agent in college football.
He represents a ton of coaches, including Kaitlin de Boor,
Kirby Moore, Kirby Smart sorry at Georgia, not Kirby more
than he was you, coach, Sark Kiffin, Sabin Land. He
may even be Sam Darnold's agent, I think with CAAA.

(04:04):
By the way, and the last time this happened where
there was a big opening like this, he parlayed it
into a buttload of money for his guys and for himself.
So that's the He's gonna be the biggest winner of
this entire thing.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
There's no question I am hoping for Kaylin's sake that
he gets out of Alabama and goes to Michigan. I've
always thought that that was the place I always worried
that Caylan might go. It certainly wasn't Alabama. And the
reason I wasn't worried about him going to Alabama is
I thought it was just the most ridiculous fit imaginable,
Kaylen de Bor going to the SEC and guess what, Yeah,

(04:36):
he's had some success there, but it's also been the
most ridiculous fit imagina. Well, because every time they lose
a game, people go absolutely crazy, And I think you
need somebody coaching Alabama coaching, LSU, coaching Georgia, coaching those
schools that understand that and are totally fine with that,
and they get that area of the country, and I

(04:57):
think Kaylin de Bor has gotten shell shocked by that
area country. I think he'd be a perfect fit in Michigan,
which isn't good news for Washington in the long run
if he were to go to Michigan, because I think
he would be great there. But also I want Kaitlin
de to go to Michigan because I think it's good
for him.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
I like him, You like him.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Neither one of us have the same type of animosity
towards Kaitlin that a lot of Husky fans have. And
I undertotally understand why a lot of Husky fans have
animosity towards Kalyn de Bor. They haven't met the man,
and so I can totally understand why they do. Yeah,
but I want Jetfish here one more year at least.
I want to see what the fruits of Jedfish's labor

(05:33):
over the last two years. I want to see them
blossom in year number three, and that's the year I
think they do.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yeah. I think it'd be disappointing to see him leave now,
especially with all they have coming back next season. I mean,
there's this San Jose State kid that's in the portal,
this Danny side are care eighty eight catches, thirteen hundred yards,
ten touchdowns. I guarantee you Jetfish is going after him,
guarantee it to bring him to Seattle to be a
part of his passing offense next season. So look, I mean,
obviously if he did take off and go to a

(06:00):
place like Michigan, like we said, it would mean because
they got told no by a lot of other people,
and they might be told no by a lot of
other people, Dick. I mean, Penn State again had to
drop pretty far down their list before they hired Matt Campbell.
So I'm just getting and maybe it's just because I'm
getting older. I am just so sick and tired of
all the movement in college football by coaches and players everything,

(06:22):
and it's kind of turning into a turnoff for me,
to be totally honest with you. Look, I get that
there's people that will stick with this no matter what.
And if you told me that there was one sport
where I would kind of feel a little bit disenfranchised
with the last sport that I would think it would
be would be college football. All this is just kind
of getting on my last nerve. I'm tired of talking

(06:42):
about this crap. I'm tired of coaches leaving after a
year or two on the job. I'm tired of players
having no loyalty towards universities whatsoever. And I get it, man,
I'm not naive. I understand it. You know, as long
as there's going to be a chance for a kid
to make millions of dollars or hundreds of thousands of
dollars when this might be the height of their earning
power in their athletic career, I totally understand that. I'm

(07:03):
not stupid. It's still, though, is freaking tiresome, and I'm
getting sick of it. I'm getting tired of coaches that lie.
I'm getting tired of players that lie. I'm getting tired
of mercenaries both on the sideline and on the field.
And it's making me not be as big of a
fan as I used to be of college athletics. Honestly,
I mean, are you a bigger fan of college football

(07:25):
today than you were ten years ago? Are you a
bigger fan of college basketball today than you were five
years ago. Maybe maybe you are, maybe you're not, And
maybe it's just the cynic in me, But my god,
am I getting sick and tired of reading about stuff
like this. I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
I'm not a bigger fan, but I don't think I've
lost any fandom either.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
I think I'm the same. I think I just have
to be a different fan.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I have to.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
You can either we as fans can either accept what's
going on right or we can revolt against it.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Sure, and what does revolt look like though, because for
me I'm just gonna whind about it.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Well, revolt would look like stop going to games, stop
watching it on tele This is not doing that. But
I mean, and then, looking, the thing is, as we
get closer to the NFL, guess what college football ratings
are getting closer to NFL.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
I mean, more.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
People are watching college football now than ever, and so
it's kind of it's really ironic that we hear more
bitching about college football than we've ever heard.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Well, yet more people are watching it than ever have.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I think the bitching is good for the game, though,
it's good the the interaction, the whining. The moaning is
good because it keeps people invested. And people are complaining
about all this. I mean, they're talking about Sharon Moore,
They're talking about all this crap happening in college football.
And there's different levels of stories. Obviously, there's the Sharon
more story than there's who's going to be the next
coach at Michigan story, right, and how many coaches will

(08:46):
leave their school after a year or two. There's what
Jimmy Rodgers did obviously at Washington State. There's what Kaitlin
de Board did at you Dubb. There's what Jetfish might
do at U DUB. I mean, all those stories are
out there, and I think I think, honestly, any promotion
is promotion, truthfully, because you go on social media and
I don't know what look. I mean. In the end,
there's being counters, there's people making money off this, there's interactions,

(09:10):
there's engagements, there's impressions, and the more people that are involved,
the more people that talk about a business, the more
the business flourishes. And college football, You're exactly right, Dick
is flourishing. But again, it's not gonna make me feel
any different about it. I'm still bitter, and I'm still
annoyed and I'm still frustrated by what's happening in this sport,

(09:31):
and I'm still gonna whine and bitch and moan about it.
Maybe people in the end will get tired of it.
But I feel like there's more. I guess here's my point.
I feel like there's more when there's discussions about college football.
There's more discussions that surround the negative than the positive
when it comes to college football. People complaining about the CFP,

(09:51):
complaining about the portal, complaining about NAAL, complaining about player movement,
complaining about coaching movement, of complaining about behavior from coaches
like Sharon Moore, things like that. It seems to me
that the majority, and I don't know if it's fifty five,
forty five or whatever, whatever you think, it is, the
majority of the conversation that happens around college football focuses

(10:14):
more on people complaining and bitching and moaning than really
being happy about what they're looking at.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Yeah, no, and it goes and you agree with that.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I do.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
And Hugh has put it well because he said if
the NCAA would have just given players a little nugget,
absolutely ten years ago, back just a little just a
little something something for their efforts. Right then, we wouldn't
have We would still have rules, right, we'd still have
transfer rules. We'd still have you know, we'd have nil,

(10:42):
but it would be really limited nil, and it'd be
controlled by the NCAA. It would be the nil that
we all thought we were going to get in the
first place. Where Michael Pennix goes and does a helmet
signing at a restaurant and gets five thousand dollars for it.
I mean, that's the nil we all thought that we
were going to get, and instead we're getting five million
dollar quarterbacks just getting checks.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Well, I mean the thing is, like, you hear Demon
Williams is doing some commercials on this radio station for
a car dealership, right, how many other players do you
hear doing commercial spots on our TV? I haven't heard one, Honestly,
I can't name one. I mean, maybe there are some
other guys that are doing stuff out there. I don't
know of any. I mean I see some stuff on
ig and Twitter and Facebook and TikTok and stuff like that,

(11:24):
but I don't see any of that stuff. I think
there's a lot of players that just want a handout
because they're going to take a handout. And the more
you pay these guys, the more you feel like you
have to play them. But I don't know, man, I
just wonder for people listening out there, we can do
text later at four nine four or five to one?
Is this turning you off? Just everything happening in college sports,

(11:44):
and mostly I think for now college football, because honestly,
in college basketball, the idea of the one and done
has been around forever, right, I mean we're going back
twenty five thirty years that the one and done has
been around. So it's not impacting me early as much
Dick in college basketball as it is in college football. Great,
college basketball is a way better product. I would agree

(12:07):
with that. Yeah, I mean I think the game itself
is strong. The quality of the game in college football
is pretty good because more guys are staying in school
now because of nil. But I'm I'm used to guys
taking off after a year in college basketball. I've been
used to it for thirty years. I'm not used to
it in college football. And maybe in fifteen ten years
from now, when this is all we know, Like right now,
there's a lot of change and there's a lot of

(12:28):
change that we're seeing for the first time. It's new.
We're not used to this. You have kids that are
five six years old. They're gonna grow up with it.
It's all they're gonna know. It's not gonna be a
big deal for grumpy bastards like me. We just got
to get used to it and maybe develop some you know, commonality.
But it's more affecting college football, and I just get

(12:48):
kind of tired of the tenor and the tone of
the conversation that's happening around college football, because, like I
said to you a couple of minutes ago, it seems
like whenever there's a conversation about college foot it's not
about hey, man, look how great this guy is, or
we're gonna scheme this guy put together, or look at
this unbelievable matchup we have here. I mean, the Indiana
thing is awesome. We need more of that. Yes, we

(13:10):
need more of the Indiana thing.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
Man.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
We need more stories like that, more stories about teams
that are finding a way to satisfy their fan base
after sixty years, Like we're gonna have gas on next week.
My guest and he was there at the Big ten
championship game in Indianapolis on Saturday, and he's just he's
freaking over the moon.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
But some people have a problem with that rights because
they're like, well, it's just Mark Cuban pain players, that's
all it is, right, you know, So some people have
a problem with Indiana getting good.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Well, you know, look, man, I mean I get it.
It's just the the tone of the conversation around college
football has certainly changed in the Sharai. And maybe it's
just this week, right, Maybe I'm just picking a bad
week to bitch about it.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I think people are generally down. But the like I said,
they're not stopping watching. That's the thing. They can say
they're not watching anymore. Their ratings indicate the oppe percent.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
And I wonder how much of that's gambling. I wonder
how much of that is just being engaged. I don't know.
But you're right, man, I mean, the ratings are are
off the freaking charts. But this Sharon Moore story, he
appeared in court today, just a sad, sad, sad image, man,
with him being in this in this room here. I
don't even know how you would describe that. By the way,

(14:18):
this picture we're looking at of Sharon Moore at his
arraignment exactly. Prosecutor said he grabbed butter knives and kitchen
scissors from his staffer's kitchen, the gal that he was
allegedly having an affair with, and threatened to make her
watch him kill himself. I mean, it's just breaking an entering.
It's a potentially assault with a deadly weapon. Threatening with

(14:42):
a deadly weapon. I mean, this guy is He's facing
like five years in prison. It's unbelievable. Dude. Can you
imagine if this was a story that we were covering locally, Like,
what do you think it's like in Detroit for our
buddy Rico on the station out there? This is insane.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
I mean, just think of how huge a story and
you and I both covered the story.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Think how huge story Rick Neuheisel and a stupid March
madness bracket was.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
And this is a billion times more.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
I think we're gonna get Rico on the air next week.
We don't have time for it today, but I just
gotta know what it's like out there, because I would
assume guys that this is dominating the airwaves on their
radio station, dominating the airwaves, and every day, every minute,
they go on the air and they talk about this,
and they point fingers and they assign blame. I mean,
as people are making an erase issue in some angles,

(15:31):
others are saying that Michigan was out to get this
guy from the start. If he wasn't, you know, eighteen
and eight, they would have brushed it into the rug
and he'd still be there coaching at Michigan. It's crazy.
This is just absolutely crazy how big this story has become.
But the one the one word that I keep coming
back to Dick to just describe this, it's just it's sad. Yeah, right,
it's absolutely sad. This guy's got a wife, he's got kids.

(15:54):
He wakes up one morning he's the head coach of
the Michigan Wolverines, and that night he's threatening to kill
himself and kill this gal he was with. And he's
locked up and he's in prison, facing six years in
jail for multiple charges. It's unbelievable how this guy's life
just changed. And it's his fault. Trust me, I'm not
saying it's not his nu it's at all. This is

(16:16):
all on Chiron Moore, all on Charon More. But when
things like this happen, man, you know as well as anybody, dick,
Multiple people pay the price for this guy's action, starting
with his wife and kids, and then all of his
assistant coaches that are on that team that may have
to leave because the new guy may not keep him.
The admate los his job. Who knows how far up

(16:37):
the food chain this goes with the president at the university.
Multiple people, I mean hundreds, literally hundreds of people literally
could be affected by this.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
He's a very troubled guy. That's the part that is
sad to me, that just how mentally troubled he is.
Because unfortunately, people cheat on their wives all the time, right,
but most of them don't then do.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
What he just did.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah, and threatened to kill himself in front of the
you know, in front of the mistress.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
And I am just it's just.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Terrible, so sad, and you're right, he has only only
himself to blame.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
But hopefully he gets some help, man, because he needs.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Right, Well, we got a lot going on today and
not a lot of time to do it. We got
cracking mammoth pregame six thirty. He was gonna join us,
by the way, at four o'clock this afternoon. Lee Stirling
coming up as well.

Speaker 6 (17:24):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Pete Cavender, a former offensive lineman for Boise State, is
on the broadcast team.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
He will join us coming up as well as we
continue life from Tom's Watch Bar right here on ninety
three three kJ RFM.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Now back to football Fridage sponsored by Tito's Handmade Vodka
on your home for the NFL Sports Radio ninety three
point three.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
kJ r FM. Alright, boys and girls, we're back at
Tom's Watch Bar across the street from Climate Pledge Arena.
No home game tonight, but we're hanging out for a
little viewing party. Mikey Benton's got you. He's gonna be
handing out free drinks, buying dinner for everybody starting at
five thirty ten. Get a raise, dude, he doesn't need
a raise, Are you kidding me? He's the highest paid

(18:06):
studio host in professional sports by far. It's unbelievable. If
you've seeing the way the guy dresses. He's at Craig
Sagary's got a new suit every single game. We're joining
us right now on the radio show where apparently he's
already down there in La and he's pulled over to
the side of the road, is what I'm hearing to
do this interview. Former Boise State offensive lineman now one
half of the legendary Boise State Bronco radio crew with

(18:28):
Bob Baeler. Former offensive lineman Pete Cavender is with us
right now on the radio show ahead of the LA
Ball tomorrow. Pete, how are you, man? What's going on?

Speaker 6 (18:37):
I'm doing great, looking forward to a big matchup obviously
the Morrogans Washington. There's some plies there with coach Pete,
with both programs, so it should be a good game.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Yeah, you know what, I don't know about you, but
when these two teams get together, toss out the record books, baby,
crazy things happen with you dub and Boise State, And
I don't know, you know, if there's a lot of
enthusiasm for this one back in Seattle. It's the last
LA Bowl ever. They're going to shut her down after
this thing tomorrow, by the way, it's so far. But
what's the enthusiasm level you think back in Boise, idahope

(19:07):
for this one tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (19:09):
Well, I think Boise fans are excited for this one.
You know, not very often in a group of five world,
you get a shot at a Power fourteen. And that's
why a lot of players for Boise State come to
play on the Blue is to get these kind of opportunities,
to win championships, to play against Power four opponents and
hopefully put themselves on some sort of pedestal that shows
that they're just as good as anyone.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
You guys are getting healthier, got your quarterback back, and
as six and three, I believe with the Maddox Madson
a quarterback, how are you guys different with him?

Speaker 6 (19:38):
I just think he just brings a little more experience
to that quarterback position, not tons of depth behind him.
We had to start Max cut Forth for a couple
of games. He had to come in when Max Madson
got injured against Presno State, you can tell he was
just still a little bit wet behind the ears. But
as each game kind of went along, he got better
and better to actually the last game of the regular
season he was able to win Conference Offen Player of

(20:00):
the Week, so he did great. But again, I think
Max Mattson just with his experience, just knowing the playbook,
making smart decisions, protecting the football. Obviously, he's a huge
asset to Boise State. And anytime you know, you get
your guy back in that huddle looking in the eyes
of all the offensive players, I think that provides a
huge spark. So Max Matson was clearly healthy last week

(20:21):
in the Mount West Conference championship game. There's some questions
in Boise if he should maybe be the starter, maybe
being rusty, maybe still being injured. First Max cut for
to just one conference Player of the week. I think
Maddix Matson with his play winning MVP of that Mountwest
Conference championship game, I think proved a lot of doubts
why he should be the starting quarterback for Boise State.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Well. Pete Cavender again is a former Boise State offensive lineman.
He's on the radio call for Boise State tomorrow for
the LA Ball with Bob Bieler. And I mean, you
guys are pretty heavy underdogs, you know, ten point dogs
in this game tomorrow, which was a slightly surprising for me.
I mean, you played Notre Dame and got beat twenty
eight to seven South Florida, thirty four to seven. Fresno

(21:02):
without mad Sen lost by twenty three, But you got
your core back back, right, So paint the picture. Man
paint the picture for a Boise State upset tomorrow. What's
gonna happen?

Speaker 6 (21:12):
Well, the biggest thing for me in this football game.
Of course, there's a lot of aspects when you play
team like Washington. You know, you look at their quarterback,
you look at their running game. But the thing that
concerns me is Washington's defense. They're elite. I think only
Oregon Ducks has scored twenty six points against them. Against them,
everyone else has been below that. And so that's been
my worry with this matchup is the games where Boise

(21:32):
State has struggled this season. With those losses, they've only
scored seven points, haven't been able to get any turnovers,
and resentually just kind of almost beating their head against
the wall. So for Boise State, I think to have
a chance in this football game, they're really gonna have
to lean on their offensive line, which will Cage Casey
is a potential NFL draft pick, you should probably go
in the third round or so. He's actually opting out

(21:53):
of this football game. From my understanding, he's the only
player from either team sitting out of his bowl game.
But State has to lena. That offensive line has to
get the run game going, because when Boise State struggles
to run the football, Max Mattson also struggles to throw
the football. But when Boise State has the running game going,
of the play action for Max Mattson, it's a huge

(22:13):
part of his game and I'll see much more successful
when there's a threat of a strong running attack from
the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Let's flip it over Washington offense against Boise defense. You guys,
thirteenth best pass defense in America. But when I look
at yards per carry, one hundred and fourteenth in college football.
So do you anticipate just a heavy load of Adam Muhammad,
potentially Jonah Coleman if he's healthy, and Demon Williams on
the ground tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
I expect Washington to have a pretty physical similar attack
to what Boise State wants to do, and that's what
the physical running game. But of course you look at
the Huskies quarterback, very explosive, probably the best running quarterback
the Boise State will face all season long. That always
provides a big challenge. So Boise State's defensive backs, I
think it played great. Amaro McCoy got hurt a couple

(22:59):
of weeks ago, but it was still able to get
first team All Conference at that position. Jeremiah Irby the
opposite side of him, he's been able to get quite
a few picks, especially towards the tail end of the season.
So they're gonna play great. I'm pretty confident in that.
But again it's just, you know, he being a former
offensive linean. You gotta win in the trenches. So Boise
State can somehow get pressure in the backfield make things

(23:20):
go a little bit quicker for Washington's offense than maybe
they want to go. That would be for Boise State.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Hey, Pete Cavender with us former Boise State offensive lineman,
you were on that Fiesta Boll team right that beat Oklahoma.

Speaker 6 (23:31):
I was, and I always got a joke if you
go to visit Boise and going Walmart to the back
of the TV section, they're still playing at Oklahoma gets
the Bowl.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Unbelievable. Well, let's gotta tell you, man, Jared Zabranski's not
walking through that door. Maybe tomorrow, Ian Johnson is not
walking through that door. And Chris Peterson's not walking through
that door. I'm trying to get like some trash talk
going here for this thing tomorrow, because you haven't heard
much of it obviously at all. But I mean, how
good is this Boise State team? Like we've seen some

(24:00):
unbelievable Boised teams. Who saw a team that was in
the CFP a year ago, that team that you played
on obviously in two thousand and seven was amazing. How
does this current version of Boise State Bronco football stack up?

Speaker 6 (24:14):
You think, Well, you know, I think the thing is
different for this team, and you know they have an
opportunity to win a tenth game tomorrow, and Boise State,
I believe, is only second to Ohio State in ten
win seasons since the year two thousand. So Boise States
no mystery having lots of success, winning lots of football games.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
You know.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
The thing For me though, just just being candid to
look at the grand scheme of thing, there is a
concern that the gap between the P four and the
Group of five is only growing. So hopefully Boise State
moving into the new PAC twelfth conference next season with
essentially kind of the top upper half of the Mount
West with Oregon State and Washington State than that in
Texas State, hopefully that puts them a position to kind

(24:52):
of keep building and keep getting more funding because just
in this arms race of college football, it seems like
it's just coming down to funding. So think the more
success Boise State will have, the more willing boosters will
be willing to open up their checkbooks. And again, I
just think it's an arms race for financials. But I
think the biggest thing for Boise State, what they've done
a good job of is with all these transfers, you know,

(25:14):
Boise State is still a developmental program. Of course, they'll
probably get a few guys in the transfer portal, but
there would much rather, I think, go to the high
school ranks and develop the guys and have them in
the program for four to five years. So Boise State
just doing it a little bit differently than maybe a
majority of the teams out there in college football. But again,
it's just kind of a brick by brick attitude, you know,

(25:34):
control the controllables. It's you know, that's watching film, that's
lifting weights, that's making sure getting the treatment room and
hopefully putting out the best product on the football field.
So hopefully Boise State can get a win tomorrow, get
that tenth win, and get tons of momentum as they
move into the fact.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Twelve pete one thing I noticed looking at the results
from Boise State this year is they've been all blowouts.
It's weird You've had one close game. Every single other
game has been decided by double digit both wins and losses.
Is there something about the Broncos style that just leads
the blowouts one way.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Or the other?

Speaker 6 (26:07):
You know, I just think that really the losses this
year again where Boise State was only able to score
one touchdown in all four of those losses, and those
touchdowns came in the first half just unfortunately, probably a
little bit outmatched there, and and offensively, no doubt, was
a struggle when you only get seven points on the board.
So I think it's just kind of a matter of
Boise State either playing pretty dang good or having some
struggles by you know, give credit to the opposition, obviously

(26:29):
they created those struggles. So that's been one thing that
Boise States I think been chasing this season is consistency,
not just from game to game, but from play to play,
from quarter to quarter, and Boise State's kind of been
up and down on that consistency level, I guess, if
you want to call it that, But Boise State's obviously
been much better for the last few weeks. After losing
two in a row, One in the Blue was able

(26:50):
to finish strong to win the conference championship and, like
I said, trying to hang their hat on another ten
wins season.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
Right.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Well, we'll see what happens tomorrow, kick off at five,
the last game ever the l A ball shutting her
down hardly. This is a big one tomorrow, Pete. We're
gonna be all emotional when this thing shuts down tomorrow.
At the end of that here you go, well listen.
Kudos to you, by the way, because I know working
with Beeler is not easy man. So there's not many

(27:17):
men that could stand to be with that guy for
four hours a day. On a Saturday afternoon, you.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
Have like some Hostess donuts or chocolate chip cookies.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
You can see the.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
Pretty easy going.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
I know what booth I'm going into tomorrow, that's for.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
Sure, no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Pete, Pete, Before you go, Pete Cavender, former Boys, you
stayed offensive Lineman. Uh, I know Kirby Moore was it Boise?
I think after you were gone, he just got named
the new coach at Washington State. Uh, I'm not sure
if it's official, but it's gonna happen. Any thoughts on
thirty five year old former Boise wide receiver Kirby Moore
being the new coach at Wazoo.

Speaker 6 (27:53):
I think it's great for Kirby Moore. I think he's
been a potential coach in the waiting a head coach,
I should say, for a long time. Obviously, what they've
done the Missouri with coach drink Witz has been incredible,
and the offense has kind of been the flag carrier
for that program, and so I think it's great that
he's getting an opportunity. The only question I have with
Washington State specifically is which trajectory are they going now

(28:14):
that they don't have the powerful resources and in the
Pac twelve with the Boise States and the Fresno States
of the world. So I hope you have success there.
I hope Washington State obviously has an up trajectory. I'm
just concerned that they might have a down trajectory. Carlson,
he's a coach.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Got you, hi, Pete, great stuff. Thanks for doing this.
We'll see you tomorrow and tell Beeler to save some
donuts from me, all right, man.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
I appreciate it. Guys, I don't need to look like
a donut so he can have all of them.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Pete Cavender is with us on the radio show We're
going to Break Lee Sterling, our handicapper, and then Hu
Milon coming up at four on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Din all right, here we go. Friday three forty five
means one thing and one thing only, A chance to
talk to the Mayor of South Florida, the King of
South Beach, our friend from Paramount Sports, Andy Kapper, Lee Sterling, Lee,
how are you man.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
Exhausted helping Kim today put up the holiday lights? This
is why I only do it like once every five years.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Yeah, why don't you just take some of that gambling
money that you made over the years and by yourself
some of those permanent lights that you can or just
pay somebody to do it. Yeah, you can change to
like all the different holidays and stuff. I mean, what
the hell man?

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Like I said, I do it once every five years.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Well, Lee Stirling is with us one in four last week,
but still forty thirty four and one overall, having a
very good year on the air. Let's go to the
NFL Buffalo New England, which is a big game in
the AFC East this weekend. Those of the Patriots can
kind of wrap up the AFC East championship in some
ways if they can get this thing done against Buffalo.

(30:18):
The love a big lead at that point over the Bills,
and the Bills are at Foxborough giving a point and
a half. What do you think Bill's New England.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Not so fast?

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Now?

Speaker 5 (30:28):
Buffalo is six in the AFC, they're two games back,
but I think they know they're in the playoffs, but
they want to take a shot at that first place
in the East. And why not here? I know New
England's eleven and two coming off of a bye. But
who have the Patriots beaten? The Saints, Titans, Browns, Falcons, Jets,

(30:50):
Giants and Cincinnati even without Joe Burrow. The only team
five hundred that they've beaten are better last nine weeks
was Tampa Bay, who's now sitting at set in seven.
So I'm not impressed. The first time they played came
down to that last second field goal and the Bills
turned it over once on an interception and two fumbles here.

(31:10):
I don't think that's happening again here. I think Josh
Allen is going to be able to light up New
England here. I like the Bills thirty one twenty one.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
All right, well, we potentially could have a Super Bowl
preview green Bay minus two and a half at home,
a lambeau Field that gets Denver.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Who do you like?

Speaker 5 (31:28):
You could? And what's interesting is, you know, I was
a little shocked that green Bay came the favorite. Why
all three really tough? You know, inner division games? And
what do they have next week? They got to play
Chicago again in Chicago, They're going to be playing at
over five thousand feet That's not easy. How has Green
Bay done here as a road favorite last year three

(31:50):
and six? If you go back another year three and eight, worse,
go back another year four and ten and go back
a fourth year, six and thirteen against the spread here.
So Denver defense top three, top four, and almost every
major statistical category. The offenses, you know, hasn't been great,
but they get the job done here. I like Denver.

(32:13):
I think the wrong team's favorite Broncos twenty four to twenty.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
Oh hey, by the way, guys, just going back to
that Buffalo New England game, and Dick, you can tell
me if I'm crazy on this, but I think if
the Patriots win, do they win the East this Sunday?
Because if Patriots, Lee would be twelve and two, the
Bills would be nine to five right with three games
left to play, but the Patriots would sweep They'd sweep Buffalo.
That'll be it. So if they win this weekend, it's done.

(32:38):
Give me. Can you imagine before the start of the
year the Patriots and Drake May winning the division with
three weeks to go. It's amazing, Lee. How about the
Niners and Tennessee San Francisco at home? Given twelve and
a half against the Titans.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
The Titans I think are in a really bad spot here.
I know that they won last week, but he was
against the Brown Kevin absolutely was he doing some of
the play calls and two. I mean, you're going for
two points and you don't even have quarterback out on
a huge here. How the Titans done after win the

(33:16):
last two years? Oh fo to spread forty nine ers
score thirty four gis forty one against Cards lot two games,
twenty six points.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
But he had Jackson put Lee on hold. Way. I
thought for a second maybe that was coming from our
spot over here, that big in the headsets. But it's
actually his phone. So I don't know what it is. Man.
Maybe it's because it's three thousand miles away. Maybe we
need to put another quarter of the machine. Maybe we're
running out of time, like those old vibrators he had
on the beds of the vibrating box, of the vibrating

(33:51):
the vibrators, whatever the hell they're called, the fallacies, remember
those things. And I don't know what it is about
this freaking phone with this guy. Man, it's unbelievable, Lee,
your phone is breaking up. Pay your phone bill for
crying out loud.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
Jesus right right with you, going back to going back
to San fran Yes, thirty four against the Giants, forty
one against the Cards twenty and twenty six in the
last two against with.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Brock Purty and me.

Speaker 5 (34:18):
He was awful against Carolina and the last game against
Cleveland was horrible weather. So I think the forty nine
ers are going to be able to double up Tennessee. Here,
let's go thirty five to seventeen.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
All right, all right, we are all big Detroit Lions
fans this weekend, but they are six point dogs at
so far against the Rams.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Who do you like?

Speaker 5 (34:39):
Yeah, I mean, you got both quarterbacks played for the
other team for many years.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
We all know that. But the last two.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
Games were close, I mean really close. The Lions eat
out of twenty four to twenty three wild card win
at home in January twenty twenty four. Then turn around
the first game of last year, and I mean the
Rams took them the overtime scores twenty Detroit won the toss,
went seventy yards and scored the touchdown and they hadn't

(35:05):
changed the rules yet, so they won that game. So
these are one possession games here. I know Detroit secondary
isn't great, but their offense I think is just a
little bit better even than the Rams here. So and
also a couple extra days to pay off that Thursday
night went over Dallas here rong team favored Lions pull

(35:26):
off the Sun.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, thirty four? All right, Seahawks and Colts on Sunday.
Seahawks given thirteen and a half against who knows who
at quarterback? Could be Riley Leonard, it could be Philip Rivers,
but the Hawks are big favorites. What do you think?

Speaker 5 (35:40):
Yeah, I mean they might have to go to Brett
Rippon at one point in this game. It's not a
good sign here. I mean, just look at what Philip
Rivers is last year, starting twenty three touchdowns but twenty
interceptions and had three fumbles. As a team, they were
five and eleven, two and nine and contests decided by
a touchdown or less. So I just don't think that

(36:01):
you can come back after five years and be able
to do well. I mean this is the defense also
the Colts. They're twenty ninth in passing yards allowed, Seattle's
defense and offense number two in scoring. Offense and defense
number two both sides of the ball here. So if
it's Philip Rivers, I think they're in a deep world

(36:22):
to hurt. I don't think the last a half out
Therefore they have to pull them here, and Seattle's covered
seven of eight here and should be able to run
up the score here blow out City Hawks.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Fifty five Colts seven. Wow, all right, fifty so take
the over two is what least telling him? All right,
Game of the week, Browns and Bears. What do you know, Lee?
Love this game.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
It's gonna be cold, single digits and a win chill
below zero. You want to get the Bears see if
they can come back off that really tough loss last
week at green Bay. Cleveland should have won last week,
so might be competitive. First five callers called eight hundred,
four hundred nine seven one get the game for free.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
We got specials in football you can get through the
end of the month.

Speaker 5 (37:11):
Use coupon code save one hundred, get all our college
and NFL games, and we have a UFC card seven selections,
just forty seven dollars, including a fifty unit max wager,
last UFC card for the next six weeks. So they
switch on over to Paramount and also coming up in
a cup. Just at a little bit of time, Mark

(37:32):
James and I were gonna have picking the locks again,
So I'm gonna try to stay on this roll, all.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Right, buddy, Great stuff enjoy the weekend. We'll talk next Friday. Man.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
Thanks guys.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
All right Leex Buffalo, Denver, the Niners, Detroit and Seattle
all against the spread, and the Lions to win straight
up and upset the Rams over the weekend? Is that
game it so far? By the way, on Sunday? Are
they turning that thing around? Maybe I'll stay down on
the roof of the Lions.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
What the hell, well, they can turn around easily since
there's only been to be about ten thousand.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
That's right, exactly we're gonna break. Hugh Millon's gonna join us,
coming up next on ninety three three kJ RFM.
