Speaker 1 (00:01):
Go.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
We're hanging out until six thirty tonight before the Kraken
and the La Kings. Mike Florio will join us, coming
up in about five minutes from now with talks in
NFL with him. Lots of stuff to go over with
Mike Florio. Where dude, All of a sudden, the forty
nine ers are thinking like, we might be the best
team in the NFC. We might win the NFC West,
we might be the number one seed in the National
(00:22):
Football Conference. After they just slaughtered slaughtered the Indianapolis Colts
and Old Man Rivers last night. Brock Purdy, Dick's favorite quarterback,
two hundred and ninety five yards passing five touchdowns on
Monday night.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
They are at Chicago.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I believe On Sunday, I believe the Niners are at Chicago.
I know they're home against us in a couple of weeks,
but I think they're going to Chicago.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
They're hosting Chicago.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Okay, here's here's the other interesting thing about that is
that the forty nine Ers, if they get on the
number one seed, Yeah, they could not play another game
on the road the rest of the year because of
sequels in Santa clas That's right, that's right, which let's
make that happen.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
By the way, I mean the last time that happened,
we saw Tampa Bay play a game at Raymond James
and they won it, obviously against Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
But yeah, you're right.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
At the Bears, or excuse me, at home against the
Bears on Sunday night, there's a chance the Niners could
play you mentioned no more road games. There's also a
chance they could be starting a run of five consecutive,
six consecutive sorry, national TV games. Because last night's game
was on Monday night, this week's game is on Sunday night.
(01:28):
There's a chance the Sea Hawk game next weekend gets
moved to Sunday night, and then we're into the playoffs obviously,
and then the Super Bowl. So they might play six
straight games on national TV, and the final five all
of them at Levi Stadium. And guys, here's the deal, man.
If the Seahawks and Niners both win this weekend Week
eighteen at Levi Stadium next Sunday, not this Sunday, but
(01:51):
next Sunday, I hope people know the difference. By the way,
it's amazing how many people don't get it. Next Sunday.
That's gonna be for not just the NFC West champion Hip,
but also for the number one seed in the NFC.
It would, it would, in essence, for me, Jackson become
the second biggest game the Seahawks and Niners have ever played,
behind the twenty thirteen NFC Championship game. And who the
(02:13):
hell was even thinking about that like a month and
a half ago, two months ago, and the Niners, Hey, look,
give them credit, man, give Kyle Shanahan credit. I think,
you know, as much as those people would drive us
nuts up here, as much as those Neanderthals need to
be wiped off the face of the earth, the injuries
that they've had, and the job that Kyle Shanahan has
done now, winning five in a row, six of seven
(02:35):
with that football team has been pretty frickin impressive. And
I don't know, dude, that game next weekend in Santa Clara,
I'll be honest with you, it scares the piss out
of me. I mean, the game against Carolina, I'm not
so worried about. Maybe I should be more concerned about it.
I'm not as concerned as I would have been if
the Panthers had lost to Tampa. But both teams are
kind of coming off an emotional high right from the
(02:57):
previous week. And we talked about this yesterday was sharing
and the sideline reporter for the Panthers. You know, both teams,
the Hawks with that crazy comeback. The Panthers got a
big win against Tampa Bay. They're both coming off a
big high. So it's almost like whoever avoids the letdown
more is going to win that game against Carolina if.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
The Hawks show up.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Look, I don't really care that Carolina is in first
place in the NFC South. They're in first place for
one reason and one reason only, because they play in
the worst division of football period, end of story. They're
playing better football, no doubt. But they're not in the
class of a Chicago. They're not in the class of
a Niners or a Rams or either the Jacksonville or
in New England or a Buffalo. I would put them
(03:37):
in the middle tier of the NFL SAFTY. They just
beat the Rams at home. I understand that. But you
know what, dude, any given Sunday, anything can happen. That's
why week Well, Look, and I get that, and I'm
with you, I'm with that, but I'm way more concerned
about the Niner game the following week that I am
this game against Carolina. Hey, if the Hawks lose, okay, fine,
they still got a shot obviously to win the division.
(03:59):
But that game next Sunday in San Francisco, in Santa Clara.
I'm telling you right now, if both teams take care
of business. And you kind of gave me a weird
look when I said this, like you're thinking of another option.
I think it's the second biggest game the Hawks and
Niners have ever played. What would be big They've never
met the playoffs, besides the NFC championship game. We've had
big games in the past, in December, going down there
(04:21):
when they lost to Frank Gore in twenty thirteen, that
they came up here in twenty twelve when Cam Chanceller
knocked the piss out of Vernon Davis, remember that.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
But this is the.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Last game of the year for the only bye, the
only bye in the NFC and an NFC West Championship
number two.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
I was just trying to rack my brain, trying to
think if there was another one.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
There isn't one.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
So many battles between the Hawks and Niners. This would
be number two.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
There isn't one. There isn't one. Yeah, well, we'll get
we'll get Mike Florio on the air here in a minute.
We'll ask him about that, because it's just incredible how
there's almost like this this different flavor of the week
in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
There's this little.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Changing of the guard and somebody else steps in, somebody
else steps out. At what point it was Philadelphia, then
it was Green Bay Detroit, Then we're talking about the Rams,
then we're talking about the Seahawks, and then we're talking
about maybe the Eagles, and now we're talking about San Francisco.
San Francisco has been under the radar the entire year,
(05:20):
and now here they are, and they're two wins away
from the number one seed in the NFC. It's unbelievable.
All right, let's get to Mike Florio right now.
Speaker 1 (05:30):

If you wanta do we have him?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I can put them on a hold. There is there
is there he is.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
That was probably our fault but whatever, even if it's not,
we'll just say.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
It's I had the mute buttonam because I had the fart.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Hey, hey, I get it.
Speaker 7 (06:57):
Man.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
At our age, you never know when that's coming. Better
be ready, dude, Hey, let's talk about seas.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
It happened twice in the last two days. It happened
twice in the kitchen. I'm telling you out of tame,
and I.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Already said, why would you do that in the kitchen?
Did you assume I had a choice?
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Well, listen, I'm just just don't trust it, man, That's
all I'm saying. At our age, do not trust it, Mike.
But hey, let's get back to talking football because I'm
getting grossed out here. The Niners big win last night
on Monday Night Football. How seriously should we take San
Francisco as a legitimate threat in the NFC?
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Now?
Speaker 6 (07:30):
You know, it dawned on me last Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
And I can't remember whether or not we discussed this
during our last visit, because I don't remember what I
did last.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
Night, much less six nights ago.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
But it dawned on me Wednesday morning, and.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
I looked at the standings. I looked at the schedules.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
I looked at the various tiebreakers and I said, oh, man,
if the Seahawks win this game on Thursday night, the
forty nine Ers control the.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
Pass the number one seed. I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
And it made me kind of roots for the Seahawks,
beyond the fact that I picked the Seahawks to win
and what a game that was. I'm sure you've talked
about that a little bit in.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
The past two days.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
But yeah, the forty nine Ers beat the Bears at home,
and then it's dejau who all over again for Sam Darnald,
assuming that the Seahawks beat the Panthers, because you come
down to Levi Stadium, you go on the road Week eighteen,
number one seed on the line, just like last year
for Sam Donald where he was.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
With the Vikings yeap the ultimate shot at redemption. For
Sam Donald, he is looming. If I'm him, I want
it to happen again.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I want to exercise the demons. Thursday night was just
the beginning. The full shebang happens Week eighteen, Sunday Night
football Seahawks at forty nine Ers, where the forty nine
Ers can take the one seed and Sam Donald companies
snatch it away from them.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, and there's a lot of big matchups, Mike, in
Week eighteen. Should Seahawks fans, if both teams win this weekend,
should Seahawks fans and Niner fans prepared that that game
is going to be on NBC on Sunday Night to
wrap up the regular season?
Speaker 5 (08:57):
Well, I almost interrupted you when you said there's a
lot of big matchups in week team.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
There isn't. Most of the spots are going to be resolved.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
There's going to be potentially two divisional playoff play.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
In games in the NFC South and the AFC North.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
But that depending upon what happens this weekend. If the
Ravens Blue Saturday Night, AFC North is over and if
the Buccaneers lose to the Dolphins on Sunday, at this point,
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (09:20):
I wouldn't feel confident about.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
The Buccaneers beating anyone, and the Panthers beat the Seahawks,
it's over.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
In the NFC South.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
There may not be much to determine other than seeding
and the NFC West. And you know, there's already some
buzz making the rounds among the Football Night in America
cast members, that we may be going on site for
week eighteen, and it occurred to me on Sunday, Dude, Lord,
I got to figure out how I'm going to get
to San Francisco from Friday when my show ends, till Sunday.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
When we're supposed to be there for the start of
the coverage.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
So yeah, I would circle that game right now as
a potential last game of the season, just like forty
nine or Seahawks or was it twenty nineteen?
Speaker 6 (09:58):
Was that the year at the year that it all
came down.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
To the one seed in the five seed when it
was forty nine or Seahawks could be happening all over
again just in the other stadium.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, this would be the second We think it's the
second biggest game the Hawks and Niners have played, behind
the twenty thirteen NFC Championship, if it does come down
to it. But Mike Florio with us and Mike speaking
of former Seahawks man a lot of conversation yesterday and
the radio show about the DK metcalf situation in Detroit.
What was your take on watching all of that and
(10:28):
the subsequent suspension unfold.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Well, we were sitting in the viewing room watching the
late afternoon games, and that is when we're in show
prep mode.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
We lock in and focus on all of the early games,
and then once four.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
O'clock rolls around, people scatter different things getting ready. You'll
watch as much you can. I happen to be sitting
there and I look up and I see DK Metcalf
holding again, and it looked like he was holding him
by the wig. It turned out he was holding him
by a T shirt. And I said, what in the
world He's going to get suspended? And we talked it through,
and I started putting out fields and at first League's position,
at least the people that I talked to there, they said, well,
(11:02):
you know, the president for this kind of.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
Thing is a fine, and I said, have you have
you seen it?
Speaker 5 (11:08):
And so you know, we reported Sunday night. President's a fine.
But they'll look at it Monday and they'll decide whether
or not it to be a fine or suspension. And
two games is kind of what I thought it was
going to be from the gets go, and two games is.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
What it is.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
And there's so many different layers and levels here.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Number One, no matter what vitriol you hear from the stadium,
and I heard from someone with another team who's been
around the league a long time and said, does a
guy in Seattle in the.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Corner who is the worst one in the league. I
don't know who it is.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
I don't know if it's accurate that this person told me,
because a guy in the corner in Seattle, and maybe
it's the guy Geno Smith flipped off.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
At the preseason game.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
But when the visiting team comes in and out of
the tunnel, that guy is the worst verbal, not physical,
but verbal assailant in the league. So every stadium has
guys like that, and it's amazing to me. If you
watch the video that was shot from.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Down the row.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
As DK approaches now, one person says, oh, oh, DK,
let's not let's go over to the stands. And the
reason they had to take a big stand on this.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
And suspend him.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
The next time it happens, you pull a guy down,
it falls over the railing, breaks his neck, massive liability.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
And also you broke the guy's neck.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Well, the next time guy punches up and he turns
his own into Jake Paul's massive lawsuit.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
And you shouldn't have players breaking people's jugs.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
So they need to do this if I was a
lawyer in the NFL legal officers, I'd say you have
to take a strong stand here, because if you don't
happens again, they're going to say, well, you didn't make
an example out of the guy who got lucky, and
DK got lucky, the Steelers got lucky, the operators of
Ford Field got lucky, and the NFL got lucky that
that didn't turn out worse.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
Than it did.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
He could have gone very badly for the fan and
then in turn for everyone else.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I was born Mike in nineteen seventy three.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I do not know a life without the Chiefs playing
at Arrowhead Stadium because they started playing there. I believe
in nineteen seventy two. They're moving twenty three miles west
to an area near the Kansas Speedway in two thousand,
in thirty one. Honestly, how significant is this NFL history
wise that the Chiefs are moving out of Arrowhead in
the next five six years.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Well, I think the easiest way to sum this up
is I don't care about NFL history because they don't
care about NFL history, and no one should care. Don't
get sucked in by the NFL film slow motion ball
rotating through the snowflakes, gently walked into the ground and
the booming baritone of John's has sent it. Don't fall
for that crap. It's all a business. They say football
(13:32):
is family. You know why they say football is family
because football.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
Is business, and it's good for business.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
To say football is family. It is all a business.
How did they end up in Kansas City in the
first place? They tried to go ahead to head with
the Cowboys as of the Dallas Texans.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
They gave up. They lost. It was a knockout, and they.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Moved to Kansas City where they got a stadium and
they had a home and they had a fan base.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
Well, they got the fan base. They're not losing the
fan base. And the people in Missouri.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
You know, the politicians are going to point fingers at
each other because that's what they do about anything they can.
Speaker 6 (13:59):
Here's the realaction.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
There was a ballot measure in April of twenty twenty four.
Jackson County, Missouri residents voted overwhelmingly not to extend a
sales tax that would have paid for renovations at Arrowhead
Stadium and build a new.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
Ballpark for the Kansas City Royals.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Overwhelmingly, they said no, Hey, the people have spoken. Here
comes Kansas with a big sack of free money for
the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
So it's a business decision. The history doesn't matter. It's
about business.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
They're gonna have a dome, they're gonna have Super Bowls,
they got Final Fours, they're gonna have all this stuff.
Speaker 6 (14:27):
They're gonna have events when it's the debt of winner
inside this dome. That's what it's about.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
So once you accept it and understand it, you mayn't
like it, but it's not some mystery.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
It's money. It's money.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
And so back to your original point, how much should
we care about the history?
Speaker 5 (14:44):
Not a bit because they don't, and when they try
to act like they do, call bs on them.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Well, Mike, before you go go back to that game
with the Rams on Thursday night, obviously it was one
of the most ridiculous improbable wins in Seahawk football history.
I know Sean mc has come out and said, look,
you know, I understand why the play was called the
way it was on the Zach Charbonnet two point conversion.
(15:09):
Mcveigh's point is you can't advance a fumble under two
minutes on two point plays are on fourth down, but
they said, because it was a backwards pass, then the
ball can be advanced, and he wants that rule changed.
I mean, the Seahawks have been a part of plays before.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
The Jet game.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Phil Luckett, I thought the helmet was a football at
the Metal Lands that led to replay. Is it possible
that Thursday Night is going to lead to a change
that will eliminate backwards passes being allowed to be advanced?
Speaker 5 (15:39):
Based on what I've been told by people who are
in the midst of the whole rule making, rule proposing,
rule crafting process, it's not.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
Going to happen.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
The league regards that as just the day after disappointment
of a team that lost an important game in a
crazy way.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Think of it this way.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
The rule against advancing a fumble on fourth down inside
two minutes and on a try from the Holy Roller
the Chargers Raiders game from the late seventies where the
Raiders look to accidentally fumble the ball forward in a
desperate spot to get it into the end zone and
have it recovered.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
So that's when the rule changed. On fourth down.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Less than two minutes are on a try, a fumble
can only be advanced by the guy who fumbled it,
and if it's recovered past the spott of the fumble,
it goes back to where the fumble happened, unless the
guy who fumbled it recovers it. There's no reason for
that same protection. When you try a backward pass, you're
not trying to pool something by saying oops, up, Oh,
there goes the ball up up, So.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
I fumbled it, silly me, There's no reason for it.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
A backward pass is deliberately an effort to try to
advance the ball by throwing it backward. So if something
crazy happens, that's part of the fun of the game.
It bounces off to your versus helmet cam curl has
a chance to intercept it. The Rams didn't pick it up.
Zach Sharbonay did, even though he didn't realize the ball
was live. And that's the big point that comes out
of this. And plenty of teams already were harping on this.
(16:57):
I believe they've been harping.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
On it even more.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
If there's a ball on the field after the whistle blows,
you pick it.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Up a hundred percent one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
And if Zach Sharbonnay, he would have walked over and
could have kicked that thing in frustration, and nobody would
have betted a freakin' eye. Man, it's unbelievable how it
all worked out. That may have given the Seahawks the
number one seed, that decision just to lean over, pick
up the ball in the end zone and give it
to the official. Hey, Mike, listen, love having you on
every week. I respect the hell out of you and
the work you guys do at Pro Football Talk dot com.
(17:28):
I love you, we love having you on, and cannot
imagine Wednesdays typically, but today's Tuesday without you on the
radio show. So best to your family, have a great holiday,
and we'll talk sutos.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Hey, don't cut me off. I want to say.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
Seriousness for all the grief I give you, for all
the times I've called you a butthole, for all the
times I've asked to disrespect you, you are a good friend.
I greatly enjoy the audience in Seattle. I hear from
the folks who listened to program.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
It means a lot to me. And remind me to
get back to you about the triple rate.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
We're done, done, all right, buttole hey, have a great Christmas.
We'll talk soon. Man, Mike Florio with us on the
radio show We've Gotta Break. We gotta talk more about
this situation. Bring with the Seahawks, man, because we are
I'm telling you, guys, we are a week and a
half away from one of the biggest regular season games
the Hawks have ever played ever and maybe a game
(18:21):
that could earn John Schneider the Executive of the Year,
maybe a game that could earn Mike McDonald the coach
of the year. Who knows, Man, it is incredible how
much is on the line in the next week and
a half for both these teams. We're gonna break a
lot more to get to on a busy Tuesday right
here on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now
back to SOFTI and Dick on your home for the Huskies,
Kraken and the twelfth Man Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ R FLM.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
All right, so I forgot about the twenty twenty two
classic Seahawks Niners wild card game at San Fra Cisco
won forty one to twenty three.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
By the way, you were leading at halftime in that game.
They were leading at halftime in that game.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
It was seventeen to sixteen, and then the Niners blew
our doors off in the second half, So you can
understand why we might want to just kind of forget
about that one.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Yeah, I don't remember it all. Move on. I don't
know what you're talking about, man.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
So I mean, look, I could, I could potentially argue,
and I realized if the Hawks would have won that game,
they would have been alive and gone to the second
round in the NFL playoffs. But this is for basically
a guaranteed trip to the second round of the NFL playoffs,
because you'd have a buy and you win that game,
and you're guaranteed to host the NFC Championship at home,
(19:39):
which you've done now twice, three different time, excuse me,
and every single time you've won, and you've gone to
the Super Bowl. So I don't care what happened in
twenty twenty two. I'm gonna be able to craft an argument,
I think, Jackson, where if the Niners and Seahawks both
win this weekend, I'm gonna go on the air. Actually
I will go on the air because I'm off, but
(19:59):
you can go on here and speak for me and
you and Dickton talk about it that this Week eighteen
game might even be bigger than that wild card game.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
I think that's absolutely fair. Because of that point of
you'd get the automatic berth. I would say, I'm just
going to put my foot down right now and say,
all this feels really dirty.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yes it does. I feel really dirty right now.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
I feel naughty, I feel gross, and I don't feel
like any of this is.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Is right with the world. Look, because we are.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Because hold on, we are jumping ahead talking about the
stakes of a Week eighteen game. Yes, before we even
go to Carolina and face of Panthers team that just
beat the Rams.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
I believe that's exactly why I was making sure to
a NUNC eight I feel dirty.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
The word if I feel dirty, If the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Win, if the Niners win against the Barriers, if both
those things happen, I get it. I mean, look, you
want me to be Mark James and go on the
air and just say, oh, it's over.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
They're gonna beat Carolina.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
The Niners will beat the Bears, and this will be
the biggest game in Sea Yawk Niner history. To help
me with marching, I'm not doing that. I'm not doing
that all right. I've had that conversation with Mark, I
had it with Ian and I told him both. I said, look,
don't do that ever again, because the Mariners were up
two games to none on the Blue Jays and going
on the air and on social media and calling it
(21:17):
when they're up two games to none. First of all,
nobody's gonna remember that you called it if they do
win the series, but they'll remember it.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
If they lose.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Don't be that guy, especially when you're talking about the
ALC frickin' s and a trip to the World damn Series.
So I'm not going down that road. And I thought,
and Jackson, you're exactly a hundred percent right. You should
fear everybody this time of year. Everybody. I mean, look,
all of a sudden, Dave Canalis, who was a part
of Pete Carroll's staff and was not retained by Mike
(21:47):
McDonald obviously not retained by those guys, it ends up
going to Carolina and he's got a resurgent, upstart Panther
team that thinks they can win the NFC South, win
a division championship, win ten games, and go to the
NFL playoffs. So this is a monster game on Sunday.
There's no doubt about that. But again, I will stress
(22:07):
if those two things happen, and I don't think it's
a guarantee the Niners beat Chicago, Dude on Saturday, I mean, Jackson.
The excuses are already starting to fly in that the
Bears played on Saturday, the Niners play on Monday. The
Bears get an extra two days of rest before they
(22:28):
go to Levi's, while the Niners have to be on
the short week and then come back from the Midwest
where they played Indianapolis on Monday Night football. So Chicago
has a little bit of a break in that regard
for this game. They might get roma doonsday back for
this game. Who knows what his status is on Sunday.
But look, I just think this, guys, I think two things.
(22:50):
And I tweeted this out over the weekend. Not that
I would expect you to give a damn what I'm
tweeting on Saturday or even on a Monday or a Wednesday,
especially on the weekend. By the way that I really
hope people are appreciating Jackson, what John Schneider is doing
here in Seattle. And I got to do some historical
research here which basically means google and go on the
internet and figure out how many general managers have number
(23:15):
one gone to a Super Bowl? And I realize it's
a long ways away, still, right? I mean, the Seahawks
could lose in the first round and they could win
the whole damn thing.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
I mean, the.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Swath of possibilities available for this football team is ridiculous.
But John Schneider, if he wins the next two games,
is going to be in a position where he can
maybe dream about doing something like that. How many general
managers have gone to a Super Bowl with a twelve
year gap, with a different quarterback and a different head
(23:45):
coach twelve years later, an entirely different roster. There's not
one coach, There's not one player left on this football
team from twenty thirteen. The only guy left is John Schneider. Okay,
Eric Kennedy, the equipment guy's in here forever. John Schneider
is the only guy left I think in that front office. Okay,
(24:06):
Kirk Parrish, I'm not sure if he was there or not, whatever,
but he's the main guy.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
So everyone's gone. He blows up the entire roster.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
He gets a brand new roster, a brand new quarterback,
a brand new head coach, a brand new coaching staff,
and then thirteen years later, twelve years later, goes back
to a Super Bowl. I don't know if there's ever
been a gap like that. I know Howie Roseman did
it with Philadelphia with Nick Foles and Andy Reid, and
then he not Andy Reid, Peterson Doug Peterson, and then
(24:36):
he did it with Siriani and Jalen Hurts seven years later.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
This is twelve years later.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Okay, so it's one thing, and that's very impressive what
Howie Roseman did, very impressive. Bobby Bethard, what he did
with the Washington Redskins back in the day. Al Davis
is the owner and the general manager Ozzie Newsome with
the Ravens with a different head coach and a different quarterback,
right from two thousand to twenty twelve. Very impressive twelve years. Okay,
(25:05):
this is on that level. John Schneider pulls this off,
and I realize that's a long ways away. I want
to just reiterate that if he pulls this off, I
think John Schneider is probably a Hall of Famer no
matter what today. I think he pulls this off and
he's a lock for the Hall of Fame. We're talking
about John Schneider putting on a gold jacket.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
If he does this again.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
I mean, you look at the historical context of that,
and I didn't realize you pop it in your head.
You kind of say, you think back to the various
you know, great teams of the decades and what I mean.
Ozzie Newsome's talked about as one of, if not the
greatest executive of all time, right for the long long
way he's done with Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
So if we have a executive who's in the pantheon
of one of the greatest executives in the history of
a league, that's right. I mean we're talking softie. We've
had this conversation before, but like we talked about Rushmore
people of human beings of Seattle sports and like Wiki
and Don James, John Schneider, Yeah, if he does it,
(26:08):
if we cap this dank thing off, he suddenly gets
his face on that mountain.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Well, if we were to do a mount rushmore of
just sports executives meeting coaches in front office people. We're
not talking about athletes now, I mean for years and
years and years it's been Lenny, it's been Don James,
it's been Pete Carroll, and I think for a lot
of people that was Todd Lai Wiki right, I mean
you might actually be knocking off Pete Carroll to make
way for John Schneider because Pete Carroll did it once
(26:36):
and John Schneider would do it twice yep, with two
different teams. Dude, it's we are lucky as how to
have a guy again. And I think the criticism and
the curiosity if he could do it again was totally warranted.
Totally warranted because this doesn't happen very often in the NFL,
let alone any sport. All right, we're gonna break a
little fun with audio next on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
I'm for Sufty and Digg's fun with audio. Jimmy g
pawn Star, Jimmy mister Daroppolo. Now let's have some fun
with audio.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
We're gonna get the Husky Hawks together, Greg Lewis, Mario
Bailey because they're bored and have nothing to do. They'll
join us on the phone, talk some dogs, transfer, portal coaching, moves,
all kinds of stuff to talk about. Recap the year
progress report on Jed Fish coming up at four o'clock
with Greg Lewis and Mario Bailey.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
John Wilner joins at five as well.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Tonight Petros by the way at six this evening normally
on Wednesday, but tomorrow's Christmas Eve, so we're jerks, but
we're not that big of jerks to make Petros work
on Christmas Eve, and neither one of us will be
here either, so it just made sense for everybody. Petros tonight,
six pm. Right here we go, Jackson a little fun
with audio slash.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Hey did you hear that? Hey? Jackson? Did you happen
to hear that? What's that? Dick?
Speaker 8 (27:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (27:51):
I dropped that. I dropped that. I always say what's that? Day?
But don't I drop this too? What's that? Did we
do both? Okay? We do both? Do it again? Three
two one? Hey, Jackson? Do you have to hear that?
What's that?
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Michigan interim head coach Biff Poggy spoke at a press
conference yesterday and was asked by reporters of Michigan leadership
is looking at him as a long term coaching option
and why he should be considered for the open job.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Have you expressed a desire to be the next head
coach here. When you've got in the sense of whether
you'll be considered that I'm being considered.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
I've had multiple interviews, multiple conversations, and you know.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Nobody knows what's gonna happen. I don't know what's going
to happen. I just appreciate being considered. The number one
reason you think Michigan should hire you because I know
what the hell I'm doing. I have a long ten
year history of knowledge of this place. Program means a
lot to.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Me, and.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
You know, it's one of the things. It's one of
the things I want to fix before.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
I go smoke myself to death with cigall.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
It's one of the things I want to fix.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
I want to fix this pot.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
I think they should hire him just for the entertainment factor.
By the way, and he just admitted he's going to
die from emphysemo at some point. You may as well
let him win at Michigan before he croaks. By the way, Uh,
there's a little signetti in there, isn't it. With Biff
Poggy here, you know, he's like a little because I
know what the hell I'm doing, Google me, I win.
He should have stole a line from Signetti. He was
(29:26):
the head coach at Charlotte for a couple of years,
associated head coach with the Wolverines. A couple of years
before that, he was on the staff with Harbaugh. I
believe back in twenty sixteen. I always kind of, though,
feel a little bit uncomfortable when coaches are asked to
advocate for themselves in public. Right, It's almost like, why
should Michigan hire you? It's like, you know what, dude,
(29:47):
that's the ad. I'm just gonna go win a game
for the Wolverines and hopefully I'll do a good enough job.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
But they'll give me a shot. That's it.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
But when coaches start to advocate for themselves, it makes
me a little queasy.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
You know, I'll pull that curtain a little bit.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
I could have played about three different things from that
press conference. Yeah, in that press conference, he talks about himself,
he taught, he's he like just just rags.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
On the whole recent scandal with Shraw Moore. Yeah. I mean,
this guy has no filter.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Whatsoever, and he might be exactly what Michigan needs right now. Right,
I mean, if they would rather hire a guy like
Biff Poggy and let the dust settle, see what the
guy's all about, and then maybe reset in nine months
from now when maybe some more names come available. Or
would you rather just be forced to take whatever's left
over after this latest coaching cycle? Do you really want
(30:36):
to go get a Jeff Brahm or an Eli Drinkwitz
or do you want to stick with this guy where
the players may love and appreciate and want to work
hard for. This may be the best thing for those
guys to just stick with this guy for at least
a year and give him a shot. Give the big
man a shot. All right, Hey, Jackson, did you happen to.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Hear that today? What's that?
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Dick Bears came back to beat the Packers on Saturday
with a forty six yard walk off touchdown passing time
from Caleb Williams to DJ Moore. After the game, Moore
joined Fox Sports Tom Ronaldi for an on field interview.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
DJ, So, how would you describe what it took to
win that game? That's a lot lot ups and downs
on our side, but we flow to the end, Matus Patty.
This has been such a challenging nemesis the Packers against the.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Bear as I see the nod. What does it mean
to get this one? D it means a lie? And
that any day the Packers always.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
I love the fact that Tom Ronaldi is interviewing DJ
Moore on live television. He drops F Bob number one
and just keeps going right, and why not F the Packers?
How about a second question? A lot of sideline reporters
would go away from that and say, I'm done, Let's
get this guy off the air. He said, Nope, there's
another nugget in there, and the nation demands to hear it.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Man, I love it. The second one was F the
Packers always. What a line. Beautiful. I think the NFL
needs more of that. Man. All right, hey Jackson, did
you happen to hear that?
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Dave?
Speaker 3 (32:04):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Sunday Night on Sports Center with Scott Van Peut, NFL
and elist Kyle Brandt joined the show, made it clear
how much he hates candy canes.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I noticed today.
Speaker 8 (32:13):
I saw that some teams were wearing patches because they'll
be playing on Christmas, and it's a cross candy cane
patch and it's festive, and it makes me want to
watch football on Christmas.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Candy canes are a fraud, horrible, terrible treat that we
need to address. And I'm just gonna go. I'm gonna go.
I don't know anyone.
Speaker 8 (32:32):
I've never heard of anyone who actually actively likes candy cakes.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Here's candy canes. Here's why.
Speaker 8 (32:36):
Before you even get to the meat, there is a
nightmarish process of unwrapping the thing, during which you usually
break the structure, which.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Is the entire novelty.
Speaker 8 (32:45):
If you even get to the cane, you are then
assaulted with a vicious, unapologetic weapons. Great peppermints terrible, but
no one even wants if you want to talk to me,
Scott about peppermint, about a crumble or a peppermint bark
or a peppermincattao.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Fine, it's a system candy.
Speaker 8 (33:00):
It is not a franchise treat only when accompanied by
other things.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Gingerbreads are great decoratively too. Like candy gets. You don't
eat the gingerbread house, Scott. But we're still eating candy cans.
Speaker 8 (33:11):
Candy corn is dunking on candy canes, and I'm done
with it.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
It's a great patch. It's a terrible candy.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
I think he's a thousand percent right, And he had
me one over when he talked about the candy cane
itself breaking apart, especially when the break in the plastic
is in the middle of the candy cane and you
have to find a way to break it open and
pull it apart, and the candy cane breaks.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
In a half. For like, well, this isn't even fun anymore.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
You want peppermint and just try like one of the
peppermint mints you know I'm talking about. Yeah, the bark
is incredible, the dark chocolate peppermint bark. That's fine. I
love that Trader Joe's sells it. By the way, It's
very good. But he's exactly right. You should not be
frustrated when you open a wrapper that covers a piece
of candy. It should be a joyful occasion, not a
frustrating experience.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
He was a one thousand percent right.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
He was right up until about the last ten seconds
when he's said, nobody eats a gingerbread house.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Oh God, I love to eat my gingerbread house.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
The only problem with gingerbread houses is sometimes you make
them too early, and by Christmas Day there's stale, right.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
And they're like, oh, this is disgusting.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
And you know what, honestly, for me and my family,
there's nobody in my house that's got the patience to
make a gingerbread house.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
So we even made one in a long damn time.
All Right, we're gonna break.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
The Husky Hawks, Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey gonna jump on
and recap the Husky football season, look ahead to next year,
What do we have on our hands man going into
twenty twenty six?
Speaker 3 (34:30):
What kind of job do we think Jedfish has done?
Speaker 2 (34:33):
All that and more coming up with the Hanks next
on ninety three three KJRFM
