Speaker 2 (00:25):
I went by there today and.

the man cave. It's gonna be awesome on Sunday afternoon.
So get to the website, the Softian Dick page. Enter
to win that and we'll draw a winter on Wednesday
night at around five thirty or so, I think, right
after Harlan on the air on Wednesday evening, we got
fun with audio. We got Hre Melbote little more at
four with Hugh Jimmy Doherty, the new UWC.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I figured you guys would be cool with that.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Putting him on the ear today is the new Washington
offensive coordinator. Because the shocker of all shockers Brendan Carroll stunning,
nobody is taking off go work for his dad with
the Raiders, So Jed Fish is gonna have to replace
both coordinators from last year.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Moving fast.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
A lot of people on Twitter were kind of barking
out Scott Huff and JaMarcus Sheppard. I was barking out
one of those guys as well, But it sounds like
Jed already had his mind made up when when Brennan
took off and when he needed a new coordinator and
a new line coach. He just promoted two guys from
within and Jimmy Doherty and Michael Switzer.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So we'll talk to Jimmy about that at five pm. PJ.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Carlissimo, the former head coach of the Warriors and the
Sonics and the Thunder and Seaton Hall almost won a
championship in Seattle back in eighty nine. He will join
us around six to oh five and talk about the
big trade of the weekend in the NBA. We're gonna
head to Dallas by the way next segment, and I'll
be honest with you, I was planning on talking about
the big trade in the NBA to start the radio shows.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
I mean, when you have a gigantic.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Trade like the august In decade, one of the biggest
trades in sports history in the in the in the States,
and maybe one of the biggest ever in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
It's certain is worth talking about.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
So we're gonna table that not for a minute and
get to RJ next because Jerry to Poto has given
us yet another gift. Jerry to Poto has given us
months and months of content.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
We're actually.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I feel like we should be writing this guy at
check by the way, boys, for the unbelievable amount of
material that he just keeps throwing to this radio show.
I mean, it's just it's the gift that keeps on Gibbert.
He's like the energizer, buddy. He just keeps going and
going and going. So do we want to respond to
this first? Or listen to this first? Are we going
to respond to it? Because you've already heard it. I've

(02:38):
heard it. Jackson's already done the Jackson texts messages. Did
you hear cross Talk, by the way? Okay, then you
missed out on the best segment of the year, by
the way. It's all downhill from here. So today, Jerry
to Poto, for those like Dick that did not hear it.
Jerry to Poto held a press conference, not in person.
It was over a zoom call with the media, which

(02:59):
I've always felt like, you know what, maybe it's just
the old school and me.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I prefer when you look people in the eye and
you do it in person.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I think, if you want to take accountability as the
leader of a baseball team, the head of the baseball operations,
and you've failed and you've missed the playoffs with this
elite pitching staff, I kind of feel like you owe
it to the media and the fan base to do
it in person, to look people right in the face.
But the Mariners don't agree with that, and that's fine.
So Jerry Depoto had a zoom call with the media today.

(03:27):
And I want you to do yourself a favor. If
you have a home blood pressure monitoring kit, okay, I
want you.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
To chest your check your blood pressure right now.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Like this morning, when the stock market opened up, it
dropped six hundred points. I checked my portfolio at six
point twenty nine am, and I wanted to check it again, Okay.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Because I'm just curious. It doesn't bother me.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I'm just curious. I was just curious to see how
far it dropped, and it actually came back. It came
back and it was fine. No, it came back today
and it was fine. It wasn't a big deal. But
I want you to check your blood pressure right now,
all right, So write it down whatever your blood pressure is,
and then check it again in two minutes from now, Jackson,

(04:12):
go ahead.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Given that you haven't added a ton of offensive pieces
to the off to this offseason, where where do you
see from the group that you have the improvement level coming?
Where do you see that stretch coming from. Since you
guys were you know, top of the league in strikeouts
and you know, second lowest and average last year, how
does that manifest itself?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
How much time do you have is the easy answer
to that question. I think there is the reality of
our offense and then the perception of our offense. And
you know, our offense we play in a tough ballpark
to hit it. Our offense has generally been above average
based on advanced metrics WRC plus things like that for

(04:52):
a number of years now. You know, the last three
years we've actually had a very stable offense, particularly good
on the road and home. We play in a tough
run scoring environment that that really benefits our pitching staff
and and our players' position players have been asked to
to find ways and and we've generally done that. You know,
we've turned it into one of the best home records

(05:13):
in the league. So, you know, we we try not
to think too much about how to reconstruct a team
for our ballpark. It's working, you know, the way it is.
We just have to figure out how to make it
work better. And you know, our team, in general, we
strike out more at home than on the road. I
think that's also true of our opponents. And and you

(05:34):
know what we have done is we've we've built a
team of players that on their own, you know, they're
they're very good, and the attrition or potential for players
to bounce back from down years. You know, we had
a few guys last year who came out and didn't
have their best season and and or got slow off
to slow starts. We have a good offensive team, and

(05:57):
we didn't feel like we needed to do a whole
lot but to find ways to support the group that
we had. And you know, I know the off season
has been long and seemingly slow. We do feel like
we made a lot of progress last year, and the
additions of a Rosa raina Roeblaze Solano and a healthy

(06:17):
whorehete Bolanco with what we think will be bounce back
seasons from a couple of guys who didn't have their
best years stand to be positives for us.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
All right, well, let's just go around the room.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
You take a blood pressure, by the way, how does
it compare to where it was two minutes ago?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Is it off the charts? Because it probably would be
for most Mariner fans. Let's go around the room. Jackson.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Let's start with you, because you made the effort to
brave the elements today. You got in the car, all right,
so you you get to go first. What what what?
What's your reaction to what you heard there from the
pressured and a bit of baseball operation.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
There's so many points here, but I'll be very quick
and concise when he says that there's the reality of
our offense and there's the perception of our offense. Jerry,
I'm fairly certain that there is the Dictionary definition of gaslighting.
So thank you all for gaslighting us. Secondly, just because
you play in a ballpark that oh, well, we can't
hit an all bar ball, it doesn't mean you can't

(07:09):
at least try to get better offensively. And finally, I
would just say the part that really just should absolutely
destroy all of us is we have a good offensive
team and we didn't feel like we needed to do
a whole lot.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
What the hell? Yeah, I don't even know what to say.
What the hell was that, Jerry?

Speaker 6 (07:31):
Jesus, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
I am so set up with this stinking baseball team.
I said I was apathetic, and I'm no longer apathetic
because I'm just furious again. They just every time I
feel like Jerry tries to come out and you know,
build momentum and stuff, he does things like this and
puts the foot in the mouth and makes me more angry. So, no, Mariners,

(07:56):
you got me back. I'm no longer apathetic. I'm just
really freaking out at you.

Speaker 7 (08:00):
Good.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Well you're back in. That's good. It's good. Good David
back on the bus man.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Mariners would rather have you invested in, pissed off and
spending money than not give a damnsey.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
I'm spending money all time.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Okay, Well, you know you're talking Mariners. You're at least
giving them the platform. So Dick Hugo, what do you
think of what you heard there?

Speaker 6 (08:15):
Well, my blood pressure is no higher now than it
was five minutes ago. I mean, I would ask you, guys,
what the heck did you expect him to say? Like
I mean, Jerry Depoto basically said exactly what I thought
he would say. He would defend the moves or lack thereof,
that he did over the last three months. And to
be honest with you, if you want to use the
metric that he used WRC plus, heck, if you want

(08:39):
to use offensive war, he's not wrong. I mean, the
Mariners were fourteenth in baseball last year. In offensive war.
They were twelve last year in baseball and WRC plus.
But Jerry, I would say this, I would assume if
we asked about your pitching staff, you would say it's elite, right, sure, Okay,
Well you can't have it both ways. If you're gonna

(09:00):
use war in WRC plus to tell me that you
have an above average offensive baseball team, then let's flip
it around to the pitching staff. You know what their
pitching staff is in war. It ain't one, two, three, four, No,
it's nine.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
So because of the same reasons.

Speaker 6 (09:19):
Your offense isn't good here, your pitching staff isn't good.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Away from here.

Speaker 6 (09:27):
So yeah, so don't tell me you've built a good
enough offense to handle major league pitching everywhere around baseball,
because you clearly haven't. You haven't built a good enough
pitching staff because your pitching staff is basically mediocre anyplace
else other than the Mobile Park, So you can't have

(09:48):
I would just say you can't have it both ways, Jerry.
Your pitching staff isn't as good as you think it is.
And yeah, maybe the offense is better than the fan
base thinks it is, but the bottom line is your
mid eighties team that barely can make the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Well, first of all, you're right about the pitching staff
on the road. There's fifteen teams in the American League,
and they were tenth out of fifteen team away from
So that's number one. Number two, Dick, you're exactly one
thousand percent right about what did we expect, Jerry to say?
One thousand percent right, two thousand percent right, because shame
on me, after eleven years of expecting anything different, you're

(10:27):
one hundred percent correct. The guy's been here for a
decade plus and for me to expect that. Jackson, do
you have the question that Curtis asked to start the
little as a great audio?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Can you can you? Can you play that for me?

Speaker 1 (10:41):
And then I would give you the answer that I
would have given if I were Jerry, But after eleven
years on the job, shame on me for expecting anything different.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
So roll the question and then cut it. Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Given that you haven't added a ton of offensive pieces
to the roster this offseason, where where do you see
from the group that you have the improvement level coming?
Where do you see that stretch coming from? Since you
guys were on top of the league in strikeouts and
you know, second MoWest and average last year, how does
that manifest itself?

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, Curtis, really good question, man, really good question. I
understand what people see and what they see us do
what they see us not do. Everybody has an opinion
about this baseball team. It shows you how much everyone
out there loves this team and wants a World Series badly,
and we do as well, and we get it. Look,
we are dealing with certain restrictions. I think that's all

(11:32):
been well documented. There's no reason for any of us
to beat around the bush here in Seattle. It's all
been publicly discussed. I've talked about it. John's talked about it,
Justin's talked about it. You all know the situations that
we're dealing with financially. You asked me, Curtis, where I
believe this baseball team will be better. I'll start with
number forty four. I think Kulier Rodriguez has put in

(11:52):
the effort over the offseason to become the elite player
that we think he can be, and we are hopeful,
beyond hope, that number forty four have one of the
best seasons in baseball in twenty twenty five. We also believe,
and I know that there's a lot of people out
there that don't want to hear it, that Hore Polanco
was playing the entire year with the major knee injury.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
He got that cleaned up in October.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
What I have seen from him, and I know he's
got to show it to you, but what I have
seen from Jorge is a much different version of the
guy that we saw in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
We are hopeful that Randy A.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Rose Arena's presence on the roster for six months will
be a positive for everybody, including Victor Roebliss.

Speaker 7 (12:29):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
I think all of us saw flashes of greatness. But Curtis,
You're exactly right. We have not done a ton over
the offseason that on the surface makes this baseball team better.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
And there are reasons for that.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
I can sit here and I can tell you about
what I see behind the scenes, but nobody wants to
hear that.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
And frankly, you guys don't deserve to hear that.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
What you deserve is to hear me talk about how
we're gonna bring a World Series to Seattle. We have
a once in a generation pitching staff that will become
harder and harder and harder as the years go by
to keep together because of finances, and it's my job
to take advantage of that.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
And frankly, time is running out. And I know that,
and the franchise knows that, and the fan base knows that.
So I would just.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Harken back to what my good friend Katie Griggs said
three years ago at this Seattle Sports Star banquet when
she said, you've been patient long enough. We're not gonna
ask you to be patient anymore. And I will echo
those sentiments. It is time for this franchise to win,
and that starts with me. And if I can't get
the job done, I understand the criticism. I hope that
if I do get the job done, you'll acknowledge that.

(13:29):
But in the meantime, I have not got that job done.
I have failed. I have come up short, and I
deserve every ounce of criticism thrown my way because the
buck stops with me when it comes to baseball operations.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
So, Curtis, I get it. It's a great question. I'm
hopeful the people.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
We have here, including Julio and including Polanco, will have
bounce back seasons.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Cal Rowley is a star, but he deserves more.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
The pitching staff deserves more, and frankly, you fans and
the media who cover this baseball team on a daily
basis deserve more. That's what I would have liked to
hear him say. Instead, he tries to convince us all
that we're wrong and we don't know what the hell
we're doing or what the hell we're talking about it.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
And there is nothing worse, nothing worse.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Than when a head coach or an executive or an
owner tries to talk down to its customers and its
client base.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
And I feel like that's what Jerry Depoto just did.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
And I don't understand it. I don't get it because
I just came up with that little rant there off
the top of my head. I put no effort into
that whatsoever. So you, Dick, when you say, what did
we expect? Dude, you're so right. It's been eleven years.
Why the hell Jackson, should anybody expect anything different?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
And that is sort of it, really is.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Right.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
I really shame on me for being so mad. You're right,
and Dick, you're you're your blood pressure being the same.
Mine should be too. You're absolutely right, because I don't
know what I was expecting. We shouldn't get this worked up.
What I.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
Don't understand is the constant condensation from Jerry Depoto and
back in the day Scott's service. And maybe I probably
focused too much on Scott's services condescending attitude and not
enough on Jerry Depoto's condescending attitude. But SAFTI, you just
kind of brought it to light there, like because you

(15:26):
presented a really really that was a great oration of
what Jerry Depoto should have said. Easy, But I think
you highlighted the right things. I think you highlighted the
buck stops with me versus, Hey, you guys in the
media and the fan base don't know what the hell

(15:46):
you're talking about, and I do, and I do how much? Yeah,
I mean, that's the first thing out of his mouth.
I mean, that was a very and and I used
to criticize Scott's service for stuff like that over and
over and over again. And and now he's gone, and
Jerry de Boda's gonna be the next guy that goes.
But the only thing I would disagree with how you

(16:07):
presented it that Jerry wouldn't say is so much about
the ownership, because I think Jerry's number one goal in
his own mind is to kiss the ring. Yeah, well,
and again text the ownership. And I don't think he
would ever, You're right, come out and even indirectly say
the ownership's not giving me what I need.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Correct. But but here's what I would say if I
were John stant I would say say that, God just
go say that. I don't care.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
I'm strong enough in my beliefs. I'm I'm confident enough
in my beliefs. I'm a freaking multi billionaire.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
What do I give a damn?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
I want my fan base to hear what they need
to hear. Why am I so sensitive that I need
my GM to go out there and kiss my ass?

Speaker 2 (16:51):
I mean, what the hell?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I mean, who cares what it's all said and done? Hey,
if I've made mistakes, I've made mistakes. If the root
thing has screwed us and we don't have enough money,
then the root thing is screwed us. I mean, what
reaction did you think people would have when you let
it leaked at you have fifteen million dollars? I mean,
there's a reason why they got that out there, because
they wanted to prepare people.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
For them not doing it. Exactly, my god, exactly. So
just own it for crying out loud.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
All right, we'll get back to this coming up. Talkbacks
are open, Jackson. I'm sorry I've created more work for you.
I want you to leave a profanity laced message. The
more profanity, the better on the talk back line of
the iHeart app. Will play some of those today. Your
reaction to what Jerry Depoto said this afternoon. I wonder

(17:34):
if they're more angry in Dallas about Luca getting traded
than we are in Seattle about Jerry.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
We'll find out. Our buddy, r J Choppy joins us.

Speaker 7 (17:41):
Next.

Speaker 8 (17:42):
If you're listening to your one and only home for
the Super Bowl. Super Bowl, make use you're number one
pre set in your car and on the new iHeartRadio app.
Now back to Suthi and Dick. Fun to you, Mandy
Emial Queen Casino on Sports Radio ninety three Super Bowl
KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
All right back here on a Monday afternoon from the
Emeral Queen Casino Sportsbook. Don't forget to join us in
the event center for the Super Bowl on Sunday. Doors
open one thirty giving away four grand in cash. Eight
lucky winners will get five hundred bucks on Sunday at
the Emerald Queen.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
So we'll swing on by.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
But they're just bitching and moaning, screaming and yelling and
ranting and raving about the Mariners and Jerry Depoto. It's
becoming a tradition here on the radio show that starts
usually about this time. By the way, I wonder if
they're angrier though in Dallas about the Luca trade. R
J Chappie with US co host of Sean and RJ
every morning on one oh five. Three of the Fans

(18:37):
joins us. Now RJ why did the Mavericks trade Luca.
Give us your thoughts on why that deal came down Saturday.

Speaker 9 (18:46):
They traded him for the same reason the Cowboys hired
Brian Schottenheimer to be their head coach.

Speaker 7 (18:51):
And that reason is I have no idea, No, I
have not Look, man, it's this is this the crazy thing?

Speaker 9 (19:00):
So Luca, Let's say there are a hundred people in
the Mavericks organization, all right, ninety nine of them loved Luca.

Speaker 7 (19:10):
The one guy that didn't was the GM.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
That that's that's the reality, and and that this.

Speaker 9 (19:18):
Is obviously there's there's there's still a lot of movie
parts this, there's still a lot of speculation, but everything
that you have, if you could read between the lines,
you go back and you listen to audio clips and
you watch videos, it's obvious that Nico Harris and the
GM just wasn't like a huge fan. You know, he
he he liked him at first, you know, he was

(19:39):
giving him a chance. It was his guy, you know,
one of his guys. But at the end of the day,
he's like, I we're not getting through to him. You know,
Luca does not have He's not Lebron James in the gym.
He's not the you know, he's never gonna win a
swimsuit contest. That said, it still works because he plays
well no matter what his weight, and he was pushing

(20:01):
two seventy. He was pushing to seventy this year, So
it's working.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
It worked, but it wasn't enough for the Mevericks. They won.

Speaker 6 (20:08):
Well, do you r J, do you think that it
works because he's twenty five and the Mavericks are looking
at signing him through his thirtieth birthday if they signed them,
the super maxis is Luka Doncic a shell of himself
at twenty nine thirty because of how he takes care
of his body.

Speaker 9 (20:26):
Well at twenty nine thirty, maybe, but right he's twenty
five years old.

Speaker 7 (20:30):
You signed a five year deal. I mean, that's the
end of the deal.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
Like I would have thought if they were gonna you
could get away with doing what he does at twenty
five years old.

Speaker 7 (20:38):
You can get away with a twenty seven at twenty
nine thirty.

Speaker 9 (20:41):
Maybe not, but you're still getting X amount of years
out of him, and you don't know what he's gonna
be like at thirty.

Speaker 7 (20:48):
You know, Dirt Davitsky was not a super fit guy.
In his early years he was a string bean.

Speaker 9 (20:55):
But he didn't care about nutritionian he didn't take care
of himself. And then he got older, He's like, I
gotta start taking care of myself. And in some of
his best years were after he was twenty eight years old.
So I don't know that you could sit here and
say Luca's gonna beat whoever he is at twenty five,
is who he is at thirty five. I mean, we're
all different at thirty five or thirty even Well, you.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Just said the GM is the one guy that doesn't
like him, right.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
RJ.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Chappie again from Dallas with us on the air talking
about the Luca deal that came down Saturday, going to
La Anthony Davis, others going back to Dallas.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Is he potentially right in having that opinion though?

Speaker 1 (21:30):
I mean, maybe he just thinks he's too fat, Maybe
he doesn't want to give him three fifty. Maybe there's
some crazy Slovenian gangster that's hanging around the arena after
games and he scares the hell out of him. I mean,
is he potentially right in thinking that he doesn't like
him and he needs to get.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Rid of him.

Speaker 6 (21:48):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (21:48):
Yeah, I mean there's there's absolute fairness in that. There's
absolute fairness, I think. I think the problem MAVs fans have.
MAVs fans like they didn't want him to trade Luca
at all.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
I mean, he's he's ours, right, he's our player.

Speaker 9 (22:03):
But are a lot of the issue, and my issue
to is the return that you got, Like you didn't
even shop him around. If you want her to shop around,
if you want her to trade him, fine, go ahead
trade him, but call Milwaukee and say, hey, you want
to do a Yanni swap like like kind of right,
you know, do something like that, because you're talking about
a player in the top I mean he's in the

(22:23):
top four or five in the league. Right, every team
would say yes that they want him, and every team
would give up their best player for him, and the
Mavericks just didn't get the proper return.

Speaker 7 (22:33):
I think that's the anger. The anger isn't necessarily with
trading him.

Speaker 9 (22:36):
I mean, that's bad enough, But if you're gonna do it,
I mean you better set yourself up for the future
big time.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
So you got Windoors saying that Luca would have signed
the Super Max in Dallas, and you got a new
York Times article that says, quote, Apparently the MAVs didn't
think Doncic would stay in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
So who do you believe?

Speaker 10 (22:57):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (22:57):
I believe Windhorse on this one. I mean, he's in
better in the NBA. He's got tons of connections. Luca
was gonna sign here.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
I don't, I don't. We have not heard of peep
about him wanting to leave.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Now.

Speaker 7 (23:10):
You know that things could change, you know, if they
have a first round exit.

Speaker 9 (23:13):
I mean, everything can change, But we haven't heard anything
that The Mavericks have done everything also during this time
to kind of make Luca, you know, to kind of
change the narrative rndom. But they got rid of all
the old trainers they got they brought their own guys in,
and Luca responded with like, Okay, I'm just gonna have
my own guy in this. So he has his own trainer,
who obviously doesn't train him very well.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (23:32):
But it's yeah, I thought for sure he was gonna
say I had none of us thought for a second
that he was gonna be gone.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah. Well.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
R J Chappie again from Dallas, joining us on the
radio show one O five three The Fan Morning show
host doing his radio show from New Orleans for the
Super Bowl on Radio Row. And I'm sure you'll talk
a lot about the new coach of the Cowboys this week,
So tell us from from Dallas sports fans, and we
know the Cowboys are number one with a bullet over
everything down there are all the sports fans in general

(24:02):
terms more fired up and pissed off about Brian Schottenheimer
getting the head coaching job or Luca getting traded.

Speaker 7 (24:09):
Oh, Jerry, Jerry.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
Jones should buy like he should like buy Nico Harrison,
the MAVs GM like a giant bottle of Camus or whatever.

Speaker 7 (24:16):
Why you want, because he's it's it's his best friend
right now, because all the heats off, Jerry.

Speaker 9 (24:21):
You know, Cowboy fans, half the Cowboy fan base wanted
anybody button McCarthy.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
In the other half was like, you know, Mike's doing
a good job. Let's let's keep Mike around.

Speaker 9 (24:32):
Or even if you didn't want to have Mike around anymore,
you wanted to upgrade.

Speaker 7 (24:36):
You know, the Cowboys I don't.

Speaker 9 (24:37):
Think upgraded their head coaching's position. They just they just
took the alternative, and that that bothered a lot of people.
You know, after his press conference that he had, which
by the way, Jerry did a great job of overshadowing
him and making it a complete disaster. But Schottenheimer was
I mean, he was something like okay, I could see
how somebody would interview him and like his message. He

(24:59):
just has never been very good coordinator, and you hope
that he's a better head coach than coordinator. The problem
is he wants to call the plays, and you know,
I call him, you know, R two p two run
run past punt.

Speaker 7 (25:10):
That's that's what he wants, what he that's he seemingly was.

Speaker 9 (25:14):
But maybe he's a better leader then than he is
an offensive coordinator because he never he's never been a
head coach that we really wanted him in about ten
years fifteen years as a head coach.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Well, that was a confusion to me. If you were
gonna just hire from within, why don't you just keep
the guy that's at least you know, led you to
nine ten ish wins most seasons when you're healthy and
has a Super Bowl ring. Why did you just keep McCarthy?

Speaker 2 (25:40):
That was my thought.

Speaker 7 (25:40):
You know, I would have kept Mike. You know, there
was rumors that there's two rumors that are pavliing around here.

Speaker 9 (25:46):
One is if the Cowboys offered three years and Mike
wanted five, and Michael was like, I'm not doing this
again in two years. And then the other one is
that they were going to offer by a contract but
they wanted Jason Witten to be the head coach in waiting,
and Mike was like, I'm not doing that either, and
that he got up and left, and the Cowboys are
gonna spin it like you know, no, they decided that
they wanted them out. I mean, you never know who

(26:08):
to believe in these situations, but I would have thought
if you had gone a week and a half talking
football with Mike.

Speaker 7 (26:15):
You're gonna be all right, We're gonna bring him back.

Speaker 10 (26:16):
You know.

Speaker 9 (26:17):
Let's not quibble over three years versus five. Let's just
meet in the middle of four.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
RJ.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
I envy you and the buffet of topics you guys
have down there in Dallas. Man, here we are, we're
bitching about the Mariner general manager, you know, popping off
and irritating the entire fan base, and you guys are
actually complaining about getting a superstar NBA player traded and
a brand new head coach for maybe the biggest, most
sought after franchise in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
So keep it up, great stuff. I appreciate this. How
fun in New Orleans. Man, we'll talk so buddy, love
y'all man, thanks for having me, all right. RJ.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Shoppion Dallas. We're gonna break a little fun with audio.
We'll do that next on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
It's now time for Sufday in Dick's Fun with Audio.

Speaker 7 (27:05):
Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy, mister daroppolo.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Now let's have some fun with audio. All right.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Here we go back here at the Ebro Queen Casino
on a Monday afternoon. Don't forget we're gonna be here
for the super Bowl on Sunday. Doors open one thirty,
kickoff three thirty, giving away four grand in cash.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Eight lucky people there. Richard L will win five hundred
bucks apiece. We prefer that you spend it on the
tables here at the casino, but hey, that's up to you.
No pressure, no pressure.

Speaker 6 (27:31):
Feel a little bit obligated if I wont drop a
couple of bucks, you know a little gift back.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Maybe you triple your money. Who knows, right, But Marcus
Trofat's gonna be here. Seagal's gonna be here as well.
Great day, So come on by the Umbra queen. All right,
here we go, little fun with audio slash hated you
hear that?

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Hey, Dick? Did you happen to hear that? What's that?

Speaker 7 (27:50):
Dick?

Speaker 1 (27:51):
We start in the NBA at the start of yesterday's
Mavericks broadcast before they were blown out by the Cavaliers
by forty three. Dallas play by play voice Mark Followill
opened their television broadcast by reacting to the team trading
Luka doncic to the Lakers.

Speaker 7 (28:07):
Hi, everyone, I'm Mark Followill. Devin Harris will join me
in a minute.

Speaker 11 (28:10):
I'm sorry if I look a little haggard today, like
a lot of.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
You, I didn't sleep very well last night. We're stunned,
were shocked. We're going through it.

Speaker 11 (28:17):
You all know what I'm talking about, the end of
one era, the beginning of another. The news came down
last night and reports officially this morning. At ten o
five East year, nine oh five Central time, Luka doncicch
traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, with Maxi Kleba and
Marquitte Morris for Anthony Davis Max Christine at the first
round pick in the future.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Ah, well, you could tell in his voice he was disappointed.
So can we say.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
I'm not a Mavericks historian, but Novitsky is the greatest
player in Dallas history.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Lucasky might be number two, Lucas the most talent.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
Right, but as far as just admiration accomplishments, yes, Dirk's
number one, Lucas number two.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Differences.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
He's twenty five years old, right, And what you said
to our Jay earlier, like, look, yeah, he may sign
that contract and not live up to but he'll likely
live up to eighty percent of it.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
For crying out loud, right, I mean, my got it.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
I feel I don't know I'm saying I feel bad
for him, But dude, he's going from a non income
tax state to an income tax state, and he's dropping
from three forty five to two hundred and twenty two
million dollars.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
If I'm Luca, I'm pissed. So they got traded, are.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
You kidding me?

Speaker 7 (29:18):
Well?

Speaker 6 (29:18):
Yeah, and I don't understand, because they can. They would
have been able to sign him and trade him any
second they wanted to trade him, right, So they could
have signed him to the Supermax right and actually had
more of a market because then you then the team
that's getting him knows they've got him for sure five years,
whereas right now you could only trade him to teams

(29:40):
that were positive that they'd be able to sign him
to a new contract. In the Lakers, being as big
as they are, they would be one of those teams.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Is he more appealing though to somebody on that four year,
two hundred and twenty two million dollar deal. Is that
one of the reasons why they felt like they had
to do it, because if they do give him the
Supermax contract, the trade options are going to to be minimized.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Maybe they, like other teams in the NBA, didn't want
to give me that kind of money. I don't have
any idea.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Well, I mean, I guess it's I guess there's potential
that they said, Okay, well, here's his value as a
twenty five year old Luca, right, we think he's going
to be twenty five percent the player early twenty five
percent less because of how he takes care of himself.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
I would hope they would think that. Otherwise they're stupid.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
And we won't be able to get the value for
him when he's twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Right, all right, Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?

Speaker 7 (30:27):
What's that? Dick?

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Let's stay in the NBA and stay on that story.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
By the way, were you guys like me when Shams
broke the story of the first thing it thought of
him getting hacked?

Speaker 12 (30:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Is this legit?

Speaker 8 (30:35):
Like?

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Is this verified? What the hell? Sham's charania?

Speaker 1 (30:39):
I was at the Shane Gillis Show when I saw
the news on Saturday night, broke the news of the
MAVs Lakers trade on Saturday and then joined Sports Center
to explain how the trade happened and the many people
involved that didn't know was being discussed.

Speaker 12 (30:50):
This deal materialized in the shadows. This came out of nowhere.
This is maybe the most stunning trade definitely that I've
been a part of in recent NBA history, as far
as it was never clearly out there. And you saw
two teams in Rob Polinko with the Lakers, Dallas Mavericks,
Nico Harrison there doing this deal. And I'm told Luka, Doncic,

(31:10):
Anthony Davis, Lebron James, the players coaches a lot of
people on both sides with the Mavericks and Lakers had
no idea. I can assuredly tell you it's a fact.
Lebron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis
had no idea this was coming. I'm told Luka Doncich
is still stunned about this trade. I'm told that the
Mavericks actually approached the Lakers and offered Luka Dancic a

(31:35):
few days ago in a trade very recently. The Mavericks
went out, they knew exactly who they wanted. They wanted
Anthony Davis. That's the player that if they were ever
going to trade Luka Doncic, if this was even a
thought that was going to cross their mind, it was
four A D.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
So that's a pretty heavy statement by him to say
I know for a fact that Lebron didn't know. I mean,
I I guess Lebron could have talked to him and
said I didn't know, But Lebron could be lying.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
I mean, there's no way to really know for.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Certain, like one hundred percent, unless you hook a guy
up to a polygraph test, and even then you're not
one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
But you get my point.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
But for him to say that that Lebron didn't know.
I mean a lot of people are snickering at that
dick that Lebron didn't know. Unless the Lakers are just
ready to move on. He's a free agent. They're tired
of le Brony drama. He's forty years old. They want
to move on and be done. They wanted his replacement,
they found it in Luca Whatever.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
If there was ever a deal that the Lakers would
have made that Lebron didn't know about, it would be
this type of deal. This is exactly because I think
Lebron was probably pulling the strings in a lot of
their other deals. Not only did he know he was
probably making he was probably the general manager making coaches too. Right,
But I would start, I would lean towards believing Shams

(32:48):
in this.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
All right, Well, who knows.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
I think it's very hard for a lot of people
to believe that because of Lebron's history, right, because of
his history and meddling with the roster, meddling with the
coaching staff, with the coaching hires. I mean, he's not
exactly a guy that's got an incredible history of letting
the GM put the roster together and let the coaches
coach and the owners hire people. He's had his hand
in the cookie jar and everything. So I think for

(33:12):
a lot of people, that's why it's hard to believe. Right,
Let's let's skip three and four because I want to
get the five jacks if we can.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that? What's that?

Speaker 7 (33:20):
Dick?

Speaker 2 (33:21):
All right? So I don't know what it is with
the Hurley brothers.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
But during Saturdays Arizona versus Arizona State basketball game, Sun
Devil's guard BJ Freeman was ejected after a headbutting Wildcats
guard Caleb Love, who was also ejected. No ASU players,
including head coach Bobby Hurley, brother of Danny, shook hands
after the loss, but at the postgame press conference, Hurley
shed more lights on the situation.

Speaker 10 (33:44):
If you were right near our bench, it was it
was relentless, constant shatter, you know, from a couple of
the Arizona players. That wasn't that was not being policed properly.
And of course they're going to be happy with winning,
but it was done with with no class in my opinion,
and and words that were said back and forth led,

(34:06):
you know, to the moment where Freeman, you know, lost
it and and lost as cool because of the constant
talk that was allowed to go on. So I had
to make, you know, a tough decision to you know,
to to obviously in the best interest of our team,
to get them into the locker room so it be
no further incidents the rest of the game and in

(34:27):
the handshake line. And I thought that there was possibilities
that something else could have happened, and I was going
to avoid that, and you know what wanted to get
you know, I wanted to avoid any any further confrontation
at the.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
End of the game.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
You know what I'd love to hear a coach say,
because you've been to plenty of basketball games where you
know that the fans are more accessible, right, they can
get to the players easier. I've told you guys for
years that the nastiest place I ever saw a college
basketball game, believe it or not, was Corvallis, Oregon, really
sitting behind the Husky Bank and the stuff I heard

(35:00):
from the student section gnarlely like gnarly, and you know me.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
I'm not offended by anything.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Well, I would love for Bobby Hurley to do to
justify skipping the handshake line is saying, Okay, is anybody
here live with this press conference?

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Can we please stop? Stop? And I'm gonna tell you
right now what they said. I'm gonna tell you everything
they said.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
If you can bleep this out, that'd be great, but
I'm gonna repeat line by line the profanities, the homophobic slurs,
the racial whatever they were. I'm gonna tell you exactly
what the players were saying. And then you decide for
yourself if I made the right call pulling my guys
off the floor, why not do that?

Speaker 6 (35:39):
That's a great call, I mean, I think unfortunately for
Bobby Hurley it's a his his own past of being
a hot head.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
And his.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
Guilt by association being the brother of the most psychotic contraction.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
It's a good way to put it. That's right exactly.
That's that's the issue Sprinkle doing it. You know, that's
a different story.

Speaker 6 (36:02):
But you know you're always gonna kind of look cross
eyed at Bobby Hurley or either Hurley when they do
something like this, because they've got a history.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
No question, and if they sit, the more transparency you
can give people, the better. Hey, if you're really trying
to get people to believe you and justify what you did.
Then tell them what happened. Repeat the words. Act like
you're in a you know, a police situation. You're being interrogated.
Here's what they said, and now you guys can figure
out if I made the right call. Oh, you know what,
you probably did. Coach, After hearing all that, we're gonna
break Hugh Mellin's gonna join little More at four with

(36:30):
Hugh who does he like Sunday? Don't bet on this
game until you get hum Mellins analysis next on ninety
three three KJRFM
