Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, we got some breaking news to report here
on the radio station. How about the fact that we
just brought this up about an hour ago, the Geno
Smith trade possibility to the Las Vegas Raiders. Never in
my wildest dreams would I believe that before sundown tonight
that would be a reality. Multiple reports now, including our

(00:25):
old friend Diana Russini, are reporting that the Las Vegas
Raiders have made a trade with the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
And they are bringing that.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Guy right there to Vegas for a third round draft pick.
Diana Russini continues to report the Seahawks are now targeting
Sam Darnold to be his replacement time Seattle. The Geno
Smith era with the Seahawks is over. How about that
a third round draft pick for Geno Smith. I believe

(00:56):
that is number sixty seven overall. Will confirm that if
I can here in a second, but the Geno Smith
era in Seattle has come to an end.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Number sixty eight.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
By the way, Dick in the third round, somebody, first
of all, check on Corbyn Smith number one to see
how he's doing, the president of the local chapter the
Gino Smith Fan Club, and then number two. Look good
for them, right They decided that Geno Smith was not
good enough for them. They decided that they've got a
lot of other holes they have to fill, and with

(01:25):
the money he was about to cost them in twenty
twenty five, they could not accomplish those goals without dumping
every penny that Geno Smith was set to make in
twenty twenty five. So I'm surprised by this. I'm not
shocked by this. We just talked about it in an
hour ago. For crying out loud. I am surprised by it,
but I'm also proud. I'm proud of John Schneider. I'm

(01:46):
proud of the Seahawks. I'm happy they did it. You
just said bobbing in the ocean, just stuck in neutral,
mediocre city. Good for them. You know, John Schneider's here
to win a championship. He's here to win a Super Bowl.
He's not here to miss the playoff consecutive years and
go nine to eight and ten and seven. You want
to do this, you got to get really good at
the most important position sports have has to offer. And

(02:08):
John Schneider just pulled the plug on Geno Smith. I
want to thank Geno Smith too, by the way, because
he was great. He was an incredible teammate for the
three years he was the starting quarterback here. He blew
my expectations out of the water. By the way, after
Russell Wilson took off and went to Denver. But the
big news of the day, it'll be the big news
for a while. Gino Smith gone to the Vegas Raiders

(02:29):
and Pete Carroll for a third round pick.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Jackson.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
They popped the life preserver, and he just went into
the oceans all the way over to Las Vegas. Man,
they popped the lfe preserver. We are no longer bobbing
in the ocean of nine and eight, ten and seven.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
We'll see, we'll see. We got to be the right guy.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
I gotta get the right They gotta get the right guy.
But but tip of the cap to John Schneider. I
did not think a high third round draft pick. If
you if you told me a high fourth I probably
would have said that's that's probably my my mid line
of anything high. Better than that, I'd been happy with.
This is a high third round pick. This is a
high third round pick. This is a fabulous deal, absolutely

(03:08):
fabulous deal by the Seattle Seahawks. Now the whole Sam
Donald thing, i'd if that comes to fruition, I gotta
wait to see the contract before I'm going to embrace
it as a great move. But I do believe that
Sam Darnald is a slight upgrade over Gino Smith. So
if you can get a slight upgrade over Gino Smith

(03:29):
for less than or the same amount that you were
going to pay Gino, plus get a free third round
draft pick, you just made your team better.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Well, I think the cap savings to me is what
excites me, right, I mean the amount of money. Like
I mean, a week ago, the Hawks were way over
the cap and now they're under obviously by a mile.
And they have changed their cap situation tremendously in the
last few weeks with the guys they've let go Draymont Jones,
Tyler Lockett, now Geno Smith and other players, so they

(03:58):
have rectified that. I mean, it had to happen, obviously,
but it had to happen to a point where they
could actually start to do some shopping. And that's the
thing is that last year they had all this money
to spend in free agency and they didn't really do
a lot with it. It was quantity over quality. I
thought by the Seahawks a year ago in free agency.

(04:18):
So I would have loved to have made this move
a couple days ago and maybe cleared some room to
go after a guy like a Joe Toney or a
Jonah Jackson the way the Bears did. One of the
questions what's going to have for you today is how
much does it just eat at your craw that the
Bears are sitting there getting significantly better at a position
to need while the Hawks have their thumbs up their backside. Well,
if they would have made this move a week ago,
were two or three days ago, they may have been

(04:40):
able to get involved in a deal like that. But
Gino Smith, again, if you're just tuning in right now,
traded to the Vegas Raiders and Pete Carroll, No surprise,
it's Pete Carroll. I would think he's going to get
involved in the DK Metcalf sweepstakes as well. And that
really now becomes the question how far do they go?
Are they stopping with Gino? Have they cleared enough cap
space to go and fix their offensive line problems? Do

(05:02):
they now hang on to DK Metcalf, Do they give
DK Metcalf a little more money in a contract offer
because there's been some cap space open up.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
What's moved? Number two.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Now, I believe that DK Metcalf just became more likely
to be a Seahawk than he was yesterday. Now I'm
not so sure I'm over fifty to fifty that he's
gonna stay. But whatever, whatever, My percentage was an hour
ago that DK Metcalf was gonna stay here. It moved,
it moved higher. Sure and spow track. Our friend Michael

(05:33):
Jinniddy's already updated the numbers on his website. I just
checked this an hour agoing we were eighteenth in cap space.
We're now seventh in cap space in the NFL with
sixty one million dollars. There is a ton of flexibility.
So now, I mean, I just feel like I'm free.
I'm free as a Seahawk fan, and I do agree
with you. God blessed Gino. He did a nice job.

(05:55):
He served his purpose as the bridge quarterback between Russell
Wilson and whoever is now. He did a fine job.
It was time to move away from Gino Smith well.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And look, I would have been okay having Geno Smith
be my starting quarterback on a restructure deal as long
as the Hawks went after a young guy to be
the future of the franchise. I mean, I just got
done a week ago or three or four days ago
telling you that what I wanted this team to be
all about over the offseason was finding the future at quarterback. Well,
you know, look, I mean they're starting that process. And
does Darnald come in here? Does Kirk Cousins come in here?

(06:27):
Do they still draft the young guy? I don't know
if Donald's the future at quarterback per se, but he
certainly has a more immediate, longer future than Geno Smith does.
Is a younger quarterback than Gino Smith is by four
or five years on his.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Best year's way better than Gino's best, Yeah for sure.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
I mean, look, I mean I don't want to crap
on Geno Smith today, you know, I mean, I think
the guy has been unbelievable since he showed up here.
He was a hell of a teammate. He never rocked
the boat ever. He talked about wanting a new contract
a year ago, but never held out for a second.
In response to that, I think what Geno Smith has
done here as the starting quarterback in replace of Russell

(07:06):
Wilson has blown my expectations out of the water. I
think the guy worked his ass off when he was here.
He was great with the media, he was great with
his teammates. He was a hell of a leader. I
haven't found one person yet that's got a negative thing
to say about Geno Smith the guy. But talent is limited, right,
and ability as a quarterback is limited, and we saw that.
And this kind of ends the debate. I mean, look,

(07:28):
I know it ends to the debate as far as
what the Hawks think. But there's a lot of people
out there that have thrown out the idea that you
can win a Super Bowl with Gino Smith. Well, clearly
John Schneider doesn't agree with that, correct, because the guy
just traded him. And again, if they had a better
offensive line, if they had managed their cap situation maybe
a little better, if they had built a line for
Geno Smith, if they had built a defensive line, if

(07:51):
they were further ahead like where they were in twenty twelve,
for example, when they drafted Russell Wilson, maybe Geno Smith
is still here, right, but they're not doing that, and
they had fix this, and the best way to fix
it was to blow that up and open up that gap.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
And I think we can now read between the lines
with the two big time comments that were made by
Mike McDonald over the offseason, the first being oh god,
the first being, well, I don't know. I guess he's
gonna stick around.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
I bet.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Mike McDonald got called into a meeting by the rest
of the Brass and John Schnyder.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
And said, no, no, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
We are pumping Gino up big time for the next
three months. He may be our quarterback, he may not
be our quarterback, but we are pumping that guy up.
And then the next time Mike McDonald took to the microphone,
my god, Geno Smith was the second coming of Joe Montana.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Well, dude, what have I been telling you for years?

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Don'tn't believe anything these guys say, right, and you know
what they're doing the right thing.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
They're gonna have your back until they don't.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Wasn't a McDonald that talked to Aaron Levine and said,
I don't understand people that don't think Gino is our quarterbacks.
That was like two weeks ago, dude, that was two
weeks ago whatever, two and a half week ago that
he said that.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
So this idea that you're gonna hear a head coach.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
You're gonna hear a general manager, go in front of
a camera, go in front of a microphone, and be
totally honest about the way they feel about their own players.
I mean, you gotta be a little naive to think that. Guys,
we've been doing this long enough. You've been a fan
long enough to know you can't believe a freaking word
that comes out of these guys' mouths. Why would they
not want Geno Smith to believe that they have is back,

(09:26):
because hey, look, they might be trying to trade the guy,
but there's always a chance that they don't get what
they're looking for. Trade falls apart, physical fails, and the
guy's got to come back to Seattle and play football
for you. You want that guy to think that you love
him like a son. So they did the right thing.
But the idea that we're going to be sitting here
and just buying all this stuff is the gospel. I
would have hoped that we would have learned by now

(09:48):
to not do that, because this is example one A
of what we're talking about. The guy literally two weeks
ago spoke to Aaron Levine and almost chastised fans and
media who will have the to think that Gino Smith
would not be the starting quarterback for twenty twenty five.
And here we are, and he's been traded to the
Raiders for a third round draft pick.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
Now, DK Metcalf, you agree with me that whatever you
thought DK Metcalf was going to do, you were slightly
moved towards he might be staying with this move.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
I am, yeah, I am slightly moved, but probably not
a lot. To be honest with you, if I was
eighty five point fifteen that he was getting traded, maybe
it's an eighty twenty now, you know, maybe something like that.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Why are you more? Are you way more convinced than that?
A little more?

Speaker 4 (10:33):
I mean, I just think we got so much room.
We now will have a different quarterback throwing to him.
And if it is a guy like Sam Donald. Sam
Darnald is used to having a number one dude. He
was very successful with that number one dude, this Jefferson.
And now you're like, oh, okay, well, maybe Sam Donald
can unlock something in DK Metcalf that Gino Smith couldn't.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
I think we had to take some calls here, guys.
I know Jackson's under the gun. He's sweating bullets back there,
probably because he's got that big flannel shirt on.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
By the way, he might want to take that thing
off if.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
There's ever a day to go commando in the studio, Jackson,
that's right, what you had one for it round?

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:08):
So what what?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
What?

Speaker 2 (11:09):
What?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
What's the date on this, by the way, February fifth,
February fifth, It was a month ago.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I'm sorry, one month ago.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Mike McDonald talking to Aaron Levine about Geno Smith's future
in Seattle.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Do you expect him to be here starting quarterback next year?

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Heck yeah, man, Gino's our quarterback. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
I don't understand the conversation. It's pretty obvious. This guy
is a heck of a quarterback. He's our quarterback. We
love him, can't wait to go to work with him.
We've had a lot of non football conversations to keep
it legal over the last month or so.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
And he don't know.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
He's really excited about about Clinton taking over, and yeah,
I mean this guy, he's a great player, man, and
we can win a championship with with Gino Smith. We
really believe that. And I can't wait to get back
back to work with him.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Well, look his his take on We've had a lot
of conversations. You know, didn't want to, you know, give
anything away whatever. He was there own guy, so they
could have whatever conversations they wanted to. By the way,
you know, it's certainly possible they were talking, as Geno
Smith at that time, about being their long term guy
at least on a restructured deal, and.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Gino wasn't having it.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Wasn't having it, you know, pulled a DK was asking
for too much money, you know, his agent was asking
for too much money, and we can't.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
We can't pull that off.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So I want to get some calls if we can
right now, thumbs up or thumbs down. This is a
real easy reaction piece here for us on the air.
Jed Fish was going to join us and talk some dogs.
He'll join us coming up at the bottom of the hour.
We'll get Jed's take on this as well, obviously from
a football perspective, and then Hugh will be with us.
I would probably plan on having Hugh for maybe the
entire five o'clock hour to be honest with you and

(12:39):
get his thoughts on all of this. But Gino Smith
traded to the Raiders for a third round draft pick.
Pete Carroll gets his guy back in Vegas two eight six,
ninety five, ninety five. You guys, give us a buzz
and give us your thoughts on this was this the
right move by the Hawks to do this. They're going
to clear up what was his cap number, Dick again
for this year, set to be Gino Smith's cap number.

(13:00):
It's going to be forty four and a half million dollars.
So for now they've cleared a bunch of money for
next year. We'll see how much they bring back on
right in a quarterback, whether it's Darnld or Cousins or
Justin Fields or whoever. But for now they've cleared a
bunch of money. I think it's the right move. I
think it's exciting for the Seas, to be honest with you,

(13:21):
I think the excitement level for me for the offseason,
the excitement level for me for the twenty five season, has.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Just shot up by the way a lot.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
To be honest with you, there's an unknown now with
that quarterback position that could be a real positive and
an exciting thing for this football team. Gino Smith, like
we said, did some good things when he was here,
but there was a limit to what the guy was
capable of getting done. And with Gino Smith as your
starting quarterback, I didn't sense any real excitement from the
fan base for the next couple of years. I'm sensing,

(13:53):
at least right now on social media in the text line,
some real excitement for what this could possibly.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Mean Dick for the Hawks.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yeah, and I'm just so fascinated on what's next, right,
and and the whole the whole Donald thing. I mean,
it makes sense, it makes sense, And again I would
be excited about it if the if the price was right,
and if Sam Donald's agent isn't asking for the type
of money for his client where he had three or
four years of that type of football. He only has

(14:22):
one year of that type of football, so that should
mean something. But thirty five touchdowns twelve interceptions for Sam
Donald last year forty three nineteen. He was terrible in
the last couple games of the season, but as late
as Christmas he was a top three or four MVP
candidate in the NFL. And if you can get him
for about what you were going to pay Geno Smith,

(14:44):
I'm in.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Let's get to Joe and Boffel, Joe, you're on the ear.
What do you think, man? Gino Smith gone to Vegas
for a third round pick? How about that?

Speaker 7 (14:53):
Yeah? Stunning, but not I you know, I'm I appreciate Gino.
He was not he answered long term. Everybody knew that.
But you're talking about Sam Donald and the Sam Donald
that I'm remembering is the last two games of the year,
and the Sam Donald before last year, and so that

(15:14):
makes me nervous. And who else is there unless they
move up and get a cam Ward or something that
ain't gonna happen, and it ain't gonna be Sam Howell.
On the other hand, I'm excited because you know what's
gonna happen with DK now and the whole thing just
got newked man. So I'm excited for the future. And

(15:34):
this is why they get paid the big bucks over
there at the vmax.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I kid you guys, well, let's do this.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Let's get to Mike and Kirkland is joining us on
the ear. Do we have him, by the way, give
you a second, we don't have him. Canna get Nick
and Seattle while I'm waiting. Is that possible? We got
them now?

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Okay, Mike Holmgren is joining us on the radio show.
We're gonna get Mike's take on this. Anytime a big
trade happens with the Seahawks, we've got to get the
coaches perspective.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Mike.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
First of all, how about that Gino Smith just got
set to Pete Carroll in Vegas for a third round pick.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
What was your reaction, coach when you heard the news?

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Well, I was a reaction.

Speaker 8 (16:10):
I was taking a nap, to be honest with you
and me, and I woke me up with his text,
and I thought it was just I thought it was
you playing a little bit of a joke on me.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yeah, well, we're not playing a joke. He's gone, how
about it?

Speaker 8 (16:25):
In that something. I'm stunned. I am really stunned. Who's
going to play quarterback for us?

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (16:31):
It's Sam Howell, but right now it's also March seventh.
We'll see what happens. But just the idea, why do
you think they did this?

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Just?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
I mean it was this a salary cap driven move?

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Was this say, hey, we don't see a guy with
the talent kind of driven move? I mean it's it's
hard Mike to get yourself into Obviously, John Schneider's head.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
But give us your thoughts on why you think John
did this?

Speaker 8 (16:55):
Well, it asked, I would think it has to be
recap type move because Gino, I think, and you know,
I've spoken on his behalf with you guys a number
of times. I think you know he can win games
for you. He can play for you. He's proven that
he has, you know, been a little reckless at times

(17:16):
with interceptions and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
But I always thought you could fix that. I always
thought you. I believe you could fix that, you know.

Speaker 8 (17:22):
And then the last thing, though, Dave, I think the
question I first asked you, who's gonna play? Who's gonna
be the quarterback? You know you're gonna draft one, okay?
Is that gonna make you a playoff caliber team his
first year or rookie year?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
You know who you can? And then where you're gonna draft,
I mean, you're picking eighteen. I don't know. It's just
I'm very very surprised.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Well, Mike, there is a there is a starting caliber,
uh maybe not star caliber, very good quarterback out there
for free agency, and you now have the money to
sign them. And there are at least reports out of
there that the Seahawks are interested in Sam Donald.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
What do you think of Sam Donald's the quarter at.

Speaker 8 (18:00):
I like Sam Donald, I do, I do? If but
then it's not then you know, Dick, you've talked about
it before. As far as Geno's concerned. If it's Sam Donald,
you're still gonna then it's not a salary cap issue.
I don't believe you know, you're gonna have to pop
a lot of money into that one. But I like
Sam Donald.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
I do. I thought you were gonna say Aaron Rodgers,
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Well, he's out there too, right, I mean, there's been
no links to Aaron Rodgers, but he's out there too.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Chuck brought it up today, By the ways that's gonna happen.

Speaker 8 (18:36):
Yeah, I I you know what It's just, you know,
it's like in free agency. It seemed like in free
agency when they first started it, Okay, teams are going
doing all these things, and that guy, that guy over
there that's playing for that team is more exciting and
and it seems he seems better than what you have.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
And to the time, that's not the way it is.
Most of the time. It didn't work out that way,
So we'll see. But golly six's that's interesting. I get it.
I was just over I got to go back over
there and see what's going on.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
You got to get some investigating done man for us.
But Mike Homgrin's with us on the radio show again.
Gino Smith traded to the Raiders for a third round
draft pick. Mike's that said, it's number sixty eight overall,
so a very early third round draft pick from the Raiders.
Would you be looking for right now? Honestly, if you're
John Schneider and you think of a guy like a
Sam Darnold who's twenty seven years old, are you looking

(19:36):
for your long term franchise quarterback answer, or are you
looking for a veteran quarterback to just kind of fill
the gap for a couple of years at a lower
cap number than Gino Smith was set to make and
still go after a young guy in the draft to
groom as your future.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
No, I don't think.

Speaker 8 (19:53):
I think then there's no point to my way of
thinking of training Gino Smith if you're going to do that,
because that's that's kind of what you have right now.
My thinking was that you know, if look look for
the next guy, because you have your quarterback yere for
the next couple of years. Granted, you know, the number
might be might be bigger than you want, but you

(20:14):
have that guy. Now go get the young guy. It
doesn't I don't know. I don't have to do it anymore,
but it doesn't make much sense to me. If you're looking,
if you go get a guy for a couple of years,
you already have that guy.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Don't do that.

Speaker 8 (20:29):
You know, if you're if you're going to sign somebody,
sign sign somebody that you think is going to be
your guy for the next eight to ten years.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Mike, real quick, do you think DK is more or
less likely to move from Seattle now that this move
has been made.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
I'm not sure that. Well, they were, they were close,
I'm sure, but I'm not sure DK's his decision is
not going to be based on anything else. The idea
of going to a a you know, I heard it
read something about going to a team that's gonna give
him a chance to go to the Super Bowl or

(21:05):
you know, all that kind of stuff. That's all smoke.
That's all smoke. Who's gonna pay him, Who's gonna pay me? Right,
That's that's what the number one thing is. That's I
think that's what's gonna determine what he does.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Again.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
Now, I remember, remember when I said, there's no way
Ryan Grubs going, There's no way they're gonna get rid
of Ryan Grubb. No way, Ye next day, next day's gone.
And I'm saying the same thing about DK. He's gonna
be the he's gonna be at the Seahawks. I hope,
I'm we'll see, We'll just see.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Well, we apologize for waking you up from your afternoon naps. Right,
feel free.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Any if it was anybody else, it was anybody else.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Called you tell him to take a hike. But for us,
you'll answer, that's right. All right, go back and get
a few more winks in. Enjoy the weekend and we'll
talk soon. Man, appreciate this coach.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
All right, guys, thanks all.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Right, Mike congering with us.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
You know Smith again the breaking news reported about forty
twenty five minutes ago, Sorry, has been traded to the
Raiders for a third round draft pick. That's number sixty eight. Overall,
we're gonna continue with this. Hugh Millin is gonna be
with us at five. Your reaction on the text line
at four forty five At four nine four five one.
Jed Fish is gonna talk some dogs and weigh in

(22:14):
with his take on this as well. Wow coming up
on ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 9 (22:19):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialists Broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your home for
the Huskies and the KREC in Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
All right, we're back here in a busy Friday. All
of a sudden, what was the busy Friday is now
and insane Friday. We were gonna have Jed Fish join
us at four o'clock, but the Seahawks decided to go
trade Geno Smith to Peak Carro on the Raiders, and
our friend Jedfish graciously allowing us to delay the conversation
for a few minutes so we could soak up the
news of Geno Smith becoming a Raider coach. First of all,

(22:55):
thanks for being flexible made and then second of all,
I mean, there's very few people who's a town when
it comes to football are worth hearing.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yours is one of them.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
What do you make of the Hawks moving on from
Gino and your pal Pete Carroll making the move to
bring Gino to Vegas.

Speaker 10 (23:12):
Yeah, I mean, I appreciate you guys still keeping me on.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
I know that's huge news.

Speaker 10 (23:17):
Here in Seattle, and it's obviously big news around the
NFL world. But we're obviously looking at it in terms
of knowing my relationship with Brennan and knowing what they
felt about Gino, And clearly they felt really good about
bringing someone in with his experience into Las Vegas and
doing what Chip thought he could do best offensively. So

(23:41):
I could see why they wanted to make the trade,
and I could see probably the Seahawks, with coach Kubiak
now running the offense, probably had some ideas of what
he wanted to look like too.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
I'll be interesting see which direction they go.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Coach, you got a massive weekend this weekend, and you know,
maybe a lot of folks don't know what's going on,
so just totally fill us in on what this weekend
looks like.

Speaker 10 (24:04):
Yeah, well, we've got some really cool things happening. We have,
first of all, at the basketball game on Sunday, uh
Senior Day for the Husky basketball program, and we wanted
to be in full support, so we're bringing our entire
football team, uh.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
And we're also they're honoring all of our top all.

Speaker 10 (24:24):
Of our guys have signed with us this past year,
so we've got forty guys. We're doing autograph signings before
people in the stands, so we're fired up about that.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
And then the other part, what's that?

Speaker 6 (24:36):
No?

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Go ahead?

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Go ahead? Sorry?

Speaker 5 (24:37):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (24:38):
And then the other part is we have an incredible
junior day and we've got a full group of people.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
That are that are in town and we're really looking.

Speaker 10 (24:46):
To showcase the University of Washington and why we should
have the top recruiting class. And this is our first
time we've ever been able to do this since we've
been here, So it's really fun.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
How much healthier, if you will, is the vibe around
the building now compared to where it was a year
ago at this time.

Speaker 10 (25:06):
Oh oh man, I don't even know if I could
put it. I don't even know if it's measurable. It's
a completely different environment, it's a completely different feel. Remember,
you know, when we got there, we were all on
the road recruiting. The first day we got hired, and
then we come back and it's mid February by the
time we start meeting the players. You know, two and

(25:27):
a half weeks in and now we're trying to figure
out who's on the team, keep guys on the team.
In this case, here we're working out with ninety players.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
There's unbelievable energy. We went out at six o'clock.

Speaker 10 (25:39):
This morning, and these guys I've never seen a team
more excited to be in the Dempsey Center at six
in the morning and just trying to get better with awesome,
awesome energy. And I then we're gonna do all fun
things this whole weekend. We're gonna have guys on campus
the whole weekend. We got our team here all weekend,
and we're gonna make this backball game fun.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
Man.

Speaker 10 (26:01):
We want to we want to bring that unbelievable Husky
energy and make it the greatest setting of of a
basketball arena here for the final game.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well, speaking of basketball, I mean, have you had any
conversations with Danny Sprinkle, because you're you're further ahead than
Danny is. Right, he's still coaching in his first year
and he had to put together a basketball team kind
of like you had to just put together a football team.
And have you talked to him about, Hey, you know,
things are gonna be okay. Things are gonna get better.

(26:30):
I'm living proof that things are gonna get better.

Speaker 10 (26:33):
Yeah, well, I don't know if I'm living proof of
it yet, but uh.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
No, you know, I told we talk a lot.

Speaker 10 (26:40):
We spent a lot of time together, and I really
kind of told him about our first year at Arizona
and and and what that felt like on a daily basis,
and and just knowing that a you know, as you're
building this program up, you know, you know how.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
Good yards a coach. We all know how good yards
a coach. We all know how good of a staff
you have. We all know.

Speaker 10 (26:59):
The fans are fantastic here. You're in an awesome conference,
and you know, it's just exciting to watch what you're
gonna build here. And we are fully supportive. And that's
how we thought it would be super important. We went
to Greek Row yesterday or two nights ago and invited
all the fraternities and sororities of the game. We you know,
dropped off pizzas and you know, burgers or whatever we did,

(27:22):
and just wanted to make sure that we got the
students behind them for this last game because we got
to have an awesome atmosphere football and basketball.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Well, Jet Fish is with us over at big weekend
for them coming up in a big day here today
as well as the Seahawks have traded.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Gino Smith to the Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
And I mean, you look, you're around the NFL long
enough to know what you need to see in a
quarterback before you really trust somebody. And clearly that wasn't
the case in Seattle for whatever reason. But maybe use
that as a tool to kind of transfer to the
guy you have now playing quarterback for you. What is
it about Demand Williams that makes you sleep well at night?

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Jed, I'll tell you one guy I'm not trading demon was.

Speaker 10 (28:08):
Uh we you know there his I'll tell you what
what what helps me sleep at night is how badly
he wants to be good. I think that's sometimes the
missing link that people don't recognize in a player because
you don't know it, right, You're just people that are fans.

Speaker 5 (28:25):
They come and watch the game or they hear things.

Speaker 10 (28:27):
But what helps me every night go to sleep is
I know how bad he wants it and the work
he puts in, the leadership he shows on the field, yep,
the fact that he's you know, he's up twelve pounds
since the season. I mean, you know, he said I
told him he needed to get to two hundred, you know,
because he's going to be taking twelve games plus worth

(28:48):
of hits, not just really probably add up to two
games three games worth of hits.

Speaker 6 (28:53):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
And you know he's at one ninety six already.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
And he's absolutely packing it the way he's attacking nutrition.

Speaker 10 (29:02):
And when you have that mentality in mindset, it's like,
you know, not everything's gonna be perfect. We all know
that he's not nineteen yet. He hasn't turned nineteen yet.
The kid's still eighteen years old, and we talk about
him all the time, which is great. But I think
you're gonna see the more you spend time with it,
the more you guys talk to him, get him on
the radio show and really hear his maturity and watch

(29:24):
him grow as well.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yeah, what was demand when he showed up here? Again?

Speaker 5 (29:29):
How old are no? Wait?

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Wait?

Speaker 10 (29:31):
Wise he was seventeen and one hundred and seventy six pounds.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
And that was one ninety six pound, Wow.

Speaker 10 (29:38):
Twenty pounds a year and it's all muscled and he
looks great and he's getting faster and his arm strength
is getting better and his football knowledge.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Man, it's just it's been fun.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I love it fun, I love it well. So he's
the exact opposite of us, is what you're saying. Okay, good,
we're not getting better, Jed.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Great, step the exact to me right now.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
There you go, Jed great stuff. Enjoy the weekend, have
fun this weekend. Man, it's gonna be great to see
everybody on campus. And we'll talk soon. Next time there's
big breaking Seahawks news, we'll call you first.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Okay, I appreciate it, no problem, Thank you, guys.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Thanks gouch.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Jed fish with us on the show, agreeing to kind
of maybe be a little flexible with the schedule because
if you're just tuning in right now.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
The Seahawks have traded Geno Smith. This is not a drill.
It's not April Fool's Day.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Geno Smith has been traded to the Las Vegas Raiders
for the raiders third round draft pick overall, which is
number sixty eight. And there's been a lot of opinions
flying around on this. We put a poll out on
Twitter asking people if it was the right move or
the wrong move. The updates seventy percent to thirty percent
right move. Mina Kimes is on social media slamming the move, said,

(30:53):
you have no idea how bad the past protection was
in Seattle. It will be very hard for the Seahawks
to upgrade at that position. We're hearing from everybody on
on social media. Mike Homegroom was on the air with
us a few minutes ago. He's stunned by the trade.
And Hugh Millan's gonna hop on with the air with
us at five and I assume spend maybe the entire

(31:14):
hour with us talking about this. You might want to
tell you whatever he's got playing on Michelle to Night,
by the way, cancel it and be ready to go
an hour. We're gonna call Corbyn Smith too and see
if we can get him on the air as well
at some point for kind of hisso perspective. Yeah, somebody
check on that guy, by the way. Four nine one textimonials.
Gino Smith traded to the Raiders for a third round pick.
