Speaker 1 (00:00):
Corbyn Smith's gonna join us by the way, coming up
at six point thirty. He was, and look, I'm not
trying to be as smart ass here. I think it's
pretty much well known that there was no bigger defender
I think in town of Geno Smith than Corbyn Smith was.
Maybe it's because they share the last name. I mean,
that could be related, for all I know. I got
no idea. But Corbyn Smith, who is now with Emerald

(00:21):
Spectrum on Twitter, Emeraldcityespectrum dot com is the name of
the website. He will join us at six point thirty
and give us his thoughts on his beloved Genosmith being
traded to the Raiders today?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Can I read you?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
An odd tweet by one Bob Candota Sure, responding to
the initial Ian Rappaport tweet about the trade, Bob said,
and I guess the Seahawks are indeed in rebuilding mode
and Pete Carroll gets a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
From his old team.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Do we feel like the Seahawks are in building mode
just because they got rid of Genos If they get
Sam Darnold, no, I don't.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
I mean if they get Justin Fields and he's terrible,
then I guess it's possible they're in rebuilding mode. If
they give the ball to Sam Howell and just say
that that we're going to tank for RGBJA Stat's rebuilding.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Then maybe we're in rebuilding mode.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
I mean, I guess we kind of got to see
what they do in the next couple of weeks. But
I would not think that a rebuilding mode is coming automatically.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
No not.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think declaring a rebuilding mode before you have any
idea what the roster's gonna look like is a little
bit premature.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Call him up, come Bob. Maybe he's over at Dino,
he's packing a few in.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I got no idea. Jay is in Lake Stevens.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Gonna grab some of your phone calls here and get
your reaction to the Gino Smith trade going to the
Raiders for a third round draft pick.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Right move, a wrong move period. End of story, bottom line.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
I want to get your take on this on the
phone lines at two age six, ninety five ninety five,
Jay is in Lake Stevens.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
What do you think, man, Hey, this is probably going
to be the best thing to happen to us, that
we are having a blessing disguise here. But I think
there's a conspiracy theory that we're not putting together here.
Everybody wants to talk about Sam Donald. Everybody wants Sam Donald.
He's like the hottest free agent right now. Why don't
we do the real conspiracy theory going on? Josh Snyder

(01:58):
is going to turn ultimately, heal, He's going to get
rid of DK and we're going to get Aaron Rodgers
and DeVante Adams.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Here is that, Chuckell, do your deal in there.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I don't think that's gonna happen. And here's the funny way. No,
here's the funny thing. I don't know if you're being
serious or if you're being sarcastic. So will you please
just explain it to me like I'm five years old?

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Think about it. Josh Snyder was on the Green Bay
Packers during the time when they brought in Aaron Rodgers. Correct,
he's got a deep connections there. He probably would love
to have him come back and be that veteran quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Why why would he love to have him come back? Though?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I mean, I get your point that well, hang on
a second time out, Jake. I get your point that
he was with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, but that
was a lifetime ago. That was a different quarterback ago.
That was back before Aaron Rodgers lost his mind and
started skipping mandatory mini camps to go to Egypt and
hang out with the Pyramids. It was before Aaron Rodgers
started calling out teammates and public and became a major

(03:02):
diva in the minds of every general manager in the NFL.
And he also wasn't forty years old, right, Like, that
was a long time ago. So I get your point
that he was around Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. But
does he still want to have Aaron Rodgers today because
he wanted Aaron Rodgers fifteen years ago.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Bring Aaron Rodgers in, ted Raft, Will Howard in the
second or third?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Okay, all right, Jay says, bring Aaron Rodgers in and
go after Will Howard, who looked awful by the way
at the combine according to a lot of people. But
Hugh Millan says, he's getting a bad break. What do
you think Aaron Rodgers coming here for a year?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
I think if Aaron Rodgers wasn't nutty, I'd be fine
with it. But like Aaron Rodgers is all about Aaron Rodgers.
Like the entire focus of Seahawks camp not only will
it be a local focus, the Seahawks will become one
of the more national teams out there because Aaron Rodgers
coming does Does John Snider and Mike McDonald want to.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Deal with that? And how old is Mike McDonald again?

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Of Aaron Rodgers age here? Come on, yeah, younger than
Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
So I think I think Aaron Rodgers would eat Mike
McDonald alive as the quarterback of this football team. I
think they'd be a bad idea from a relationship perspective.
And look, I'm not opposed to bringing in a forty
year old guy if the guy can still play and
he's not a pain in the ass. And hey, maybe
Jake's right, maybe John Schneider thinks more highly of Aaron
Rodgers than we do. But I think if you've got

(04:25):
if you're desperate, Millan put it perfectly, you only do
that if you're desperate, meaning you lost Darnold, you lost Cousins,
you lost Justin Fields, Daniel Jones is going to stay
in Minnesota and back up JJ McCarthy, and there's nothing
else out there. I happen to believe there's a really
good chance that Aaron Rodgers might stay on the market

(04:45):
for a while before he gets signed by somebody, because
there's other options out there that are much more appealing,
at least in my opinion.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Well, and one of them one of them's gone now
because I thought the Raiders may be an option for
your Roger Scott is in Issaquah.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Gino Smith is a ra What do you think, Scottie?

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Oh, I think it's fantastic. I mean, I like Gino. Uh,
you know, he's a good guy. But I've always been
of the opinion that I would much rather be out
dabbling with unknown quantities than stick around with someone that
you know is not going to win you a championship.
I was very pro, uh getting rid of Pete Carroll
because I just felt like the game and passed him by.

(05:23):
I was pro getting rid of Lorenzo Romar because I
felt like the game had passing by and everyone disagreed
with me back then. Look what Romar has done since then,
like literally nothing.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Done too well.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
They did hear the tournament with Mike Copans and then
things things kind of fell apart.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
So yeah, exactly what I'm what I'm saying is if
a guy is not going to win you a championship.
Why are we going to spend a year after a
year taking around with him. I mean, I love Gino.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
He was good.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
He was a good redound from Russell. But let's go
find someone that's gonna win a super Bowl. It wasn't
going to be him. It was not going to be him.
I want I want red touchdowns. I just want them
caught by us, not the other team.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Well, listen, that's funny, by the way. I like that.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
I think it's obviously a great point because you just
kind of feel like, how much more did you need
to see? Yes, And Corbin may disagree with this, and
when he comes on the year next segment, and Mina
Kimes would disagree with that. She's already made that perfectly
clear on social media that this was the offensive line's fault,
not Gino Smith's fault. And look, there's a lot of
truth in that that this is all about the offensive line.

(06:27):
And like I said earlier, this doesn't fix your problems.
I mean, if Sam Donald got sacked a lot in
Minnesota last year and they lost Christian Darisaw halfway through
the year, their line was terrible in the final two
games of the season, Sam Donald's gonna need some help
here in Seattle, guys, or you're gonna have a repeat
of what you had out there in Minnesota. So my
hope is that you'll get either the same performance or

(06:51):
a slight upgrade at minimum at quarterback, but then also
be able to use the money you've saved to go
find an offensive line.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
And that's why I love this so much much, just
because you really are saving the money at the end
of the day. And you guys have heard me be
a broken record on this. This team with Gino Smith
was not going to win a Super Bowl because of
the financials for Gino Smith of what they would have been.
So why not build your team for players, with players
who will get you to a super Bowl and take
this money.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
And that's why it's so good.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
The bad part is every Seayawk fan is going to
be angry this fall because we're gonna watch Gino Smith
light it up in Vegas under you know, a dome
where he's so good indoors, and every suck fan is
going to see the big numbers and can say, see,
we should have kept Gino Smith. Yeah, because he's playing
in a dome stadium for every almost every game, So he.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Also needs to be Raiders office isn't very good.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
I just think that we're gonna see Gino put up
good numbers and fans are gonna happen. So many tweets
and so many calls and so many.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Times depends on well, it depends on who the SEK
quarterback is and how he's playing.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Well, who cares? Who cares what he does down there?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
As long as he's gonna I mean, I will root
for Gino and Pete Carroll as long as we've got
a good quarterback and we're winning here, as long as
we have a good quarter thing. But this opens up
the opportunity. We needed two things, right, We needed not
to pay Gino a lot of money, and we needed
a future quarterback. Right that we needed both of those things.
We're gonna get one or the other. Right, We're either

(08:20):
gonna get Sam Darnald and you have your future quarterback.
He's twenty seven years of age. That's your future quarterback.
Or we're not gonna get Sam Donald and we're gonna
get a you know, Justin Fields asked, dude making nothing
so you got rid of the money. So it's either
going to be good financially or it's going to be
good because you found your starter at a price commensurate

(08:41):
or maybe even a little bit less than Gino.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Smith is going to be making.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
I will say this, you're also putting a tremendous amount
of faith in John Schneider to spend the money properly. Yeah,
because if we're talking about two things, okay, there's two things.
Either A you get healthier financially or be you find
your your future quarterback. It's also possible you could get
health you're financially and have John Schneider piss it away
and wasting and look, I mean, I obviously nobody wants

(09:06):
to see that happen. He's got to fix this frickin' line, guys.
I mean that to me is almost number one. You
got plenty of money to find a quarterback, right, there's
guys out there. You can go grab one middle of
the road. I was slightly above average whatever. But he's
got to prove that he can fix that line or
we're going to be in the same boat with a
different coordinator and a different quarterback all over again. Let's

(09:28):
keep going here, JJ's and baffl hi, JJ, you're on
the air.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Yeah, you guys, kind of took my thunder with that one.
But I would say start first and just rebuild the
offensive line. Make that your entire focus. And then you know,
if we get the middle of the road quarterback or
if you get Justin Fields for two years and you
know he sucks next year and if.

Speaker 8 (09:48):
We're bad, we're bad.

Speaker 7 (09:49):
We get a quarterback in the draft next year and
hope that's better. But I would spend the majority of
the money fixing, fixing the line, and then you know,
if they're not great, then they look at a quarterback
next year, and you know the I think the quarterback
from Tennessee might be okay. And if we're super bad,
and if we end up with Manning, so be it.

(10:11):
I mean, just fix the line because we're not going
to do anything ever without you know, fixing that shirts.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Well, let's face it, ja Je and appreciate the call
man that you know we just talked today, or we
will talk about Ron Francis right, and how this spotlight's
squarely on him. Now he's fired a coach, he's traded
a bunch of players that he signed and didn't work
out and had to get rid of him. Now he's
asking for another chance to retool the roster to the

(10:39):
Poto plan. It's well, look for John, it is, but
the difference is John's got the track record. John's got
the cashake because you won a title, right, and he's
made multiple playoff appearances about it. Ron did Yeah, no, no, no,
for sure, but he hasn't been it for ten years.
But yeah, you're right in some ways it is the
Jerry Plan. The thing with John, though, is that now
if this was square on him yesterday after he got

(11:02):
rid of Pete Carroll and hired a.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
New coach, it's really on him now.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Because now he's gotten rid of the head coach, he's
gotten rid of two quarterbacks, and now he's moving on
to a third. If there's ever a time to say, okay, pal,
this is your show, and it's it's on you, it's today.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
If you cannot fix a three person offensive line, we're
not even talking about bringing in new tackles, maybe one
of them, but at least a three person on interior
of the offensive line, and you have a first, a second,
two thirds, a fourth, a fifth, two sixth and a
seventh and the seventh most cap room in football. That
is a massive fail. If you can't find three legit

(11:40):
dudes to start at Garden Center.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
In one draft in one I don't agree with that.
Off side, yeah, I think that's well. Yeah, when you
include free agency, I'm a lot more inclined to agree
with you. But he's never proven he can do that though.
I mean, he's proven he can find guys to start
and stand there as starting offensive lineman. But as he
proven he can take one draft and then the next
year say we did it.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
No, he hasn't done. That's the last time he's had
this much cap.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
I go back, I show you there's been some years
where he will cap space and draft capital combined.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
You're probably correct when it comes to me.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Is both of them combined loaded now to fix an
offensive line than I think he has ever been as
GM Here.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So they had I'm going back to Pro Football Reference
dot Com. Here they had in two thy twenty three
they had four, six, eight, ten picks. In two thousand
and twenty two they had nine picks. Two thy nineteen
they had eleven picks, and in twenty eighteen they had

(12:39):
nine picks. In two THY seventeen, that's the elite McDowell year.
By the way, they had three six nine eleven selections.
So I'd like to go back and see what kind
of cap room they had those years. But you might
be right when it comes to combination a draft capital
and financial capital, this might be the best position he's
been in.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
But again, it's now on him, right. This is not
Pete Carroll's fault. This is not Mike McDonald's fault. It's
not Chuck arnold's fault. Okay, it's not anybody else's fault.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
If this doesn't work, and John Schneyder has been given
another shot to find another quarterback with a bunch of
money for the second year in a row to spend
and a buttload of draft capital, this is the time
for him to get this thing done. It's fifteen years
in now, for God's sakes, sixteen years. Yep, it's time enough.
We're gonna break. Corbyn Smith, the president of the Geno

(13:30):
Smith Fan Club Seattle Chapter, will join from Emerald City
Spectrum on ninety three three KJARFM.

Speaker 9 (13:38):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your Home for
the Huskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR.

Speaker 10 (13:50):
FM you'll expect him to the year starting quarterback next year.

Speaker 11 (13:53):
Yeah, heck yeah, man, Geno's our quarterback. I don't understand
the conversation. It's pretty obvious. This guy's a heck of
a quarterback. It's our quarterback. We love him, can't wait
to go to work with him. We've had a lot
of non football conversations to keep it legal over the
last a month or so. And he I know, he's
really excited about about Clint taking over and we can
win a championship with with Gino Smith.

Speaker 12 (14:14):
We really believe that.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Well, that was a month ago, and today Gino Smith
is a raider.

Speaker 8 (14:18):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
It's funny how things change Again. Coaches try to sell
fans and media on a certain narrative and a month
later something is totally different.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Now.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Look, in his defense, maybe he thought that at the time.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Maybe he thought, hey, we're gonna have no problem getting
a deal done with Gino Smith, right, and then he
ran into a problem getting a deal done with Gino Smith.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
And yeah, let me rephrase that. He's our quarterback.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Heck yeah, as long as we can pay him thirty
five million dollars a year or less. Well, the president
and we like to joke a little bit here, but
he's now with Emerald Citispectrum dot com brand new website,
really cool spot for our friend Corbyn Smith. We joke
a lot that the president of the Geno Smith Fan
Club two oh six chapter has been Corbyn Smith. And

(14:59):
I will tell you this, the Corbyn Smith has made
a career almost in the last year of arguing with
people on Twitter about the value of Geno Smith as
quarterback of the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
And I have one question for Corbyn Smith.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
What the hell are you gonna do with your life
now that Geno Smith is a raider?

Speaker 2 (15:16):
How do you fill the gap? My friend?

Speaker 10 (15:19):
Well, I got to get to the film and figure
out what the hell they're gonna do at quarterback. That's
what I gotta get to. I mean, I'm guys, this
is the most stunning thing. I mean, I thought Russell
Wilson getting traded was gonna be the most stunning thing
that I covered, because that kind of felt like it
was out of nowhere, and this one is even crazier.
But everything that I've heard here the last couple of

(15:40):
hours just sounds like this was just something that just
in a couple of days just came together. And that's
how quickly things can turn in the NFL. I mean,
I truly believe that they were ready to go forward
with Geno Smith. But then you see the price tag
that he wants, and then the Raiders come calling, you
just kind of do a pivot.

Speaker 12 (15:58):
It's just the timing of it what is so strange.

Speaker 10 (16:01):
Because it does feel like this team has a lot
of the pieces in place to be able to be
a contender next year if they could just fix the
Darnal offensive line.

Speaker 12 (16:10):
But now you are in a position where you didn't
know who your quarterback is going to be. It's just
it's fair. We'll just put it this way. Guys. It's
fascinating to me that this is what ended up happening today.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Well, we had Mike Flurio on earlier this hour and
he you know, he doesn't have any news necessary to break,
but he his quote was all signs point to Sam Donald.
And in my opinion, Sam Donald's a better quarterback than
Gino Smith. And if Gino Smith was asking for forty
five million dollars a year, you could potentially get Sam
Donald for less than forty five million dollars a year.

(16:42):
So would not not be an upgrade in your mind.

Speaker 10 (16:45):
I think Geo Smith's a better quarterback. I know that
last year Sam Donald had incredible number. This is my concern.
What does Sam Donald do behind an offensive line that's
not a top five offensive line.

Speaker 12 (16:58):
That's my concern.

Speaker 10 (17:00):
Because you saw it in the game against the Rams
and the playoffs when the Rams were able to get
pressure on him consistently. And you look at earlier in
his career, you guys might remember when he said he.

Speaker 12 (17:10):
Was seeing ghosts.

Speaker 10 (17:11):
That has been an issue for him throughout his entire career.
And for whatever Faulse Geno Smith may have had, he
did a great job of mitigating the pressure that he
was under a lot of the time.

Speaker 12 (17:22):
That was one of the strengths in his game.

Speaker 10 (17:23):
So I guess that's where my skepticism comes into play.
If John Schnyder actually spends money on the offensive line,
then Sam Darnald could be very successful here. The offense
is gonna be similar to the system he was in
in Minnesota, but this offensive line is nowhere.

Speaker 12 (17:39):
Close to the one in Minnesota.

Speaker 10 (17:41):
So unless they do something about that, it's not gonna
be You're gonna have a difficult time getting the same
production out of Sam Donald in that offense.

Speaker 12 (17:50):
If you aren't protecting him, that's the issue.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Here, right, Well, there's no doubt the line's got to
be fixed, no matter what. The line had to be fixed,
no matter what for a new coordinator, for God's sakes,
after they fired Ryan Grubb and hired Clint Kubiak. But
let me go back to the contract deal, because it
sounds like you were and if I'm putting words in
your mouth, please correct me surprised that Gino was asking
for forty to forty five million dollars per year, which

(18:13):
Diana Roussini is now saying the Raiders are planning on
giving him. So would you have given him that money
if you were John Schneider?

Speaker 10 (18:23):
You know, I really don't know if I was in
his shoes, if I would have made much different of
a decision here. That's the difficult thing, and you guys
mention it. I'm higher on Geno than a lot of
people are. But I thought forty million, thirty seven to
forty million was probably gonna be the sweet spot because
you were looking at the same zip code as Baker Mayfield,

(18:43):
and there were a few other really solid quarterbacks that
were in that threshold too, But forty five million, that's
I mean, that's that's pretty steep. I guess my only
question here, I'm kind of flipping the script here.

Speaker 12 (18:56):
I'm supposed to.

Speaker 10 (18:57):
Be the one getting interviewed, But I'm curious of your
guys viewpoint on this because if Sam Donald is so
good and he's a younger quarterback, like, what is the
market gonna look like for him?

Speaker 12 (19:08):
Because there are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks
in the league. What is that?

Speaker 10 (19:12):
What happens when you have a bidding war potentially out there?
What do the Seahawks do if if Sam Donald is
around the same price point, are they gonna pay forty
five million for him? Like? That's and then what do
you what do you do pivoting if that doesn't work out?
Like you don't want to trade assets to get Kirk
Cousins contract?

Speaker 8 (19:30):
Right?

Speaker 10 (19:30):
Justin Fields hasn't proved he can consistently throw the football
in the NFL. Like I guess this has been my
argument all off season that if there's a better option,
then absolutely you go for it. I'm just I'm curious
what that better option is. And maybe it is Sam Donald,
But I I'm skeptical the price point is gonna be
much different with him being an unrestricted free agent.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Well, I just for me, it's freedom for purgatory. That's
what you're in right now. The Seahawks are free from purgatory.
And in my opinion, Geno's this was purgatory. He was
nine and eight purgatory. And I didn't see, even with
a better offensive line, I didn't see Geno Smith leading
this team to a twelve and five thirteen and four
record and a know NFC championship.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
No way, no way. He's not that good.

Speaker 12 (20:14):
Now.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Maybe Sam Donald's not that good either. But you have
given yourself, now, in my opinion, the freedom to either
signed Sam Darnald, a better quarterback in my opinion, to
the same or similar contract as Gino Smith was gonna sign,
or get a cheap option for one more year, and
you're better off than you were before because you're not
paying that cheap option forty million dollars like you'd be

(20:35):
paying Gino.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
That's how I would answer that question to you, Corbyn.

Speaker 10 (20:40):
You mentioned purgatory, though, what happens if you don't find
a good quarterback to replace him? The nineties happened again, like,
it doesn't matter how good your defense is if you
can't put points on the board, especially if DK metcalf
is gone.

Speaker 12 (20:54):
Like you already lost Tyler Lockett.

Speaker 10 (20:56):
Like like I said at the beginning of this, I
guess for me, the tie of all of this is
what's so weird.

Speaker 12 (21:02):
You just won ten games. You won five of your
last eight.

Speaker 10 (21:05):
This team was playing pretty good football for most of
the second half, and you got a lot of young
players on the roster.

Speaker 12 (21:12):
It's just and again, maybe Sam Darnell ends.

Speaker 10 (21:14):
Up being that guy, but I'm skeptical about the O
line situation. Now John Schneider actually goes out and gets
the top center or the top guard in this free
agent class and actually spends money on a proven offensive lineman,
then I'm gonna change my tune.

Speaker 12 (21:31):
Sum Maybe there, but like what and you now have
the money.

Speaker 10 (21:35):
You've got sixty million in cap space, Like, go get
Drew Dolman, who is the perfect fit for this offense
and is an outstanding zone blocker, or go get one
of the top guards, or get both.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
You have the money now.

Speaker 10 (21:47):
That would be my only argument that this works, because
if you go with the same offensive line that you've
got and you don't really make any upgrades there.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
You know.

Speaker 10 (21:56):
Maybe that's why Justin Fields makes sense because he can
run away from everything, but he can't throw the ball
when he's their pressure. So I mean, I it's just
to me, it is an incredible roll of the dice
by Johnny Nyder and if it if it works, then yes,
but I just it could also blow up magnificently and
he doesn't have a job next year.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Yeah, I Corbyn Smith is with us. I'm not convinced
that Darnald's a long term answer either. I'm also not
convinced that Gino Smith is a long term answer. But
if I'm taking a gamble, I'd rather do a gamble
with a guy that's twenty seven versus the guy that's
gonna be thirty five in October. I mean, Sam darnald
is first six years in the NFL had a passer
rating of seventy eight point three and then POP for

(22:35):
one hundred and two point five a year ago. QBR
the first seven years was forty five point nine, pop
for sixty point four. He's got a lot to prove too,
There's no doubt about that. So I think there is
there is some risk involved here, But there was gonna
be risk anyway, don't we think, Corbyn, because Gino Smith
was not gonna be here for ten years. I mean

(22:55):
you mentioned the decade of the nineties. I mean, he's
thirty five years old, for god's sakes. It's at some
point father time was gonna catch up and they were
gonna have to move on. So this day that came today,
where Gino Smith gets replaced by somebody was eventually coming,
and probably very soon.

Speaker 10 (23:14):
I guess the other thing that really is fascinating to
me about this, Look, I'm not alone thinking this.

Speaker 12 (23:21):
This is not a very good quarterback draft class.

Speaker 10 (23:23):
So if you're wanting to go that route, you don't
probably have the capital to go up and get Sedorge Sanders.
You're certainly not gonna get cam Ward. So they even
me going the first three pick, if they love one
of those two, I don't know how you go up
and get them. And Jackson Darts a player that I like,
but if he good enough to pick at eighteen, that

(23:43):
that leaves a lot to be open there. And then
after that, this is not a great quarterback class. So
maybe it is Sam Darnold, but then you're still if
you're paying him thirty five or forty million dollars, Like
you're not really going into that mode where you're like,
we're just saving a bunch of money at QB.

Speaker 12 (24:02):
I just I don't know.

Speaker 10 (24:03):
I'm curious to see what John Schneider ends up doing.
He's obviously got the general manager job for a reason,
and I don't But I'm just to me it is
I understand.

Speaker 12 (24:14):
The Geno Smith thing.

Speaker 10 (24:15):
Like, listen, anybody that's followed me on social media knows,
I do not think he is a top five quarterback.
I have never said that if you can find a
better option, then yeah, go get it. I just look,
I've watched Justin Field's play. I've watched Sam Donald up
till last year play. I've watched I've watched Sam Donald
play when his offensive line isn't really really good, and

(24:35):
I've seen what that looks like. And so I just
have a lot of skepticism unless they've got a young
QB that they think they're gonna get their hands on
that they really like, and I have skepticism about that
with this draft class, so you know, John Snider might
get the last laugh here. But again, I've seen a
lot of people say to some social media that well

(24:55):
this buis in time. I think it turns the heat
up more on him if this he's gone. Yeah, So
to me, it's an incredible role to day that part.
I agree with it. So the clegandlights are on him
and him alone for certain, no doubt. All right, man, hey,
good luck with the Emerald City Spectrum dot com. Uh
and if you need a place to dump all those

(25:15):
Genosmith foam fingers, man, I got a guy, let me know.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Okay, we'll take care of it for you.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
All right, guys, all right, thanks Corbyn Smith, he's with
me in every week. Emerald City Spectrum dot com is
his website. What do you say we get Mike Comgrin's
thoughts on all this next on ninety three three kJ RFM. Mike,
First of all, how about that Gino Smith just got
set to Pete Carroll in Vegas for a third round pick.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
What was your reaction, coach when you heard the news?

Speaker 8 (25:43):
Well, I was a reaction. I was taking a nap,
to be honest with you and me, and I woke
me up with his text. I thought it was just
I thought it was you playing a little bit of
a joke on me.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, well we're not playing a joke. He's gone, how
about it?

Speaker 8 (25:59):
In't that something? And I'm stunned. I am really stunned.
Who's going to play quarterback for us?

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (26:05):
It's Sam Howe, but right now it's also March seventh.
We'll see what happens. But just the idea, why do
you think they did this?

Speaker 9 (26:14):
Just?

Speaker 2 (26:14):
I mean, was this a salary cap driven move?

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Was this say hey, we don't see a guy with
the talent kind of driven move? I mean it's hard,
Mike to get yourself into obviously John Schneider's head.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
But give us your thoughts on why you think John
did this?

Speaker 8 (26:29):
Well, it asked, I would think it has to be
a salary cap type move because Gino, I think, and
you know, I've spoken on his behalf with you guys
a number of times. I think, you know, he can
win games for you, he can play for you. He's
proven that he has, you know, been a little reckless

(26:49):
at times with interceptions and stuff like that. But I
always thought you could fix that. I always saw you.
I believe you could fix that, you know. And then
the last thing, though, Dave, I think the question I
first asked you who's gonna play Who's gonna be the quarterback?
You know you're gonna draft one, okay? Is that gonna
make you a playoff caliber team his first year or

(27:10):
rookie year? You know who you gonna and then where
you're gonna draft. I mean, you're picking eighteen. I don't know.
It's just it's I'm very very surprised.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Well, Mike, there is a there is a starting caliber,
uh maybe not star caliber, very good quarterback out there
for free agency, and you now have the money to
sign them. And there are at least reports out of
there that the Seahawks are interested in Sam Donald.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
What do you think of Sam Donald's a quarterback?

Speaker 8 (27:34):
I like Sam Donald? I do? I do? If but
then it's not then you know, Dick, you've talked about
it before as far as Geno's concerned. If it's Sam Donald,
you're still gonna then it's not a salary cap issue.
I don't believe. You know, you're gonna have to pop
a lot of money into that one. But I like
Sam Donald. I do. I thought you're gonna say Aaron Rodgers,

(27:57):
I'm gonna.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Go, Well, he's out there too, right, I mean there's
been no no links to Aaron Rodgers, but he's out
there too.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Chuck brought it up today, by the way, there's not
things that's gonna happen. Yeah, there's the link.

Speaker 8 (28:10):
Yeah, I I you know what it just you know,
it's like in free agency. It seemed like in free
agency when they first started it, Okay, teams are going
doing all these things, and that guy, that guy over
there that's playing for that team is more exciting and

(28:30):
it seems he seems better than what you have. And
most of the time that's not the way it is.
Most of the time it didn't work out that way.
So we'll see. Uh, but golly six, that's that's interesting.
I get it. I was just over I got to
go back over there and see what's going on.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
You gotta get some investigating done man for us. But
Mike Homemgrin's with us on the radio show again. Gino
Smith traded UH to the Raiders for a third round
draft pick. Mike's that said, it's number sixty eight overall,
so a very early third on draft pick from the Raiders.
Would you be looking for right now? Honestly, if you're
John Schneider and you think of a guy like a
Sam Darnold who's twenty seven years old. Are you looking

(29:10):
for your long term franchise quarterback answer, or are you
looking for a veteran quarterback to just kind of fill
the gap for a couple of years at a lower
cap number than Gino Smith was set to make and
still go after a young guy in the draft to
groom is your future?

Speaker 8 (29:26):
No, I don't think. I think then there's no point
to my way of thinking of training Gino Smith if
you're going to do that, because that's that's kind of
what you have right now. My thinking was that you know,
if look look for the next guy, because you have
your quarterback Yere for the next couple of years, granted
you know the number might be might be bigger than

(29:47):
you want, but you have that guy. Now go get
the young guy. It doesn't I don't know. I don't
have to do it anymore, but it doesn't make much
sense to me if you're looking if you go get
a guy for a couple years, you already have that guy.
Don't do that. You know, if you're if you're gonna
sign somebody, sign sign somebody that you think is gonna

(30:09):
be your guy for the next eight to ten years.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Mike, real quick, do you think DK is more or
less likely to move from Seattle now that this move
has been made.

Speaker 8 (30:18):
I'm not sure that. Well, they were, they were close,
I'm sure, but I'm not sure DK's his decision is
not going to be based on anything else. The idea
of going to a uh a, you know, I heard it.
I read something about going to a team that's gonna
give him a chance to go to the super Bowl

(30:38):
or you know, all that kind of stuff. That's all smoke.
That's all smoke. Who's gonna pay him? Who's gonna pay me? Right,
That's that's what the number one thing is. That's I
think that's what's going to determine what he does. Again, Now,
I remember, remember when I said, there's no way Ryan
Grubbs go. There's no way they're going to get rid
of Ryan Grubb no way, next day. Next day's gone.

(31:01):
And I'm saying the same thing about DK. He's gonna
be the He's gonna be the Seahawks. I hope, I'm
we'll see, We'll just see.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Well, we apologize for waking you up from your afternoon naps.

Speaker 8 (31:12):
Feel free any it was anybody else it was. Anybody else.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Called you tell him to take a hike, but for
us you'll answer that's right, all right, Go back and
get a few more winks in, Enjoy the weekend and
we'll talk soon.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Man appreciate this coach

Speaker 8 (31:26):
All right, guys,
