Really, yeah, I actually the spring games are almost They're
not meaningless. But boy, with the transfer portal and the
fact that everybody's scared to do anything at the spring game,
I kind of have not been paying close attention. I've
been more focused on player movement and all the off

the field stuff that's going on, because the portals still
open for the rest of this week for football, and
you know, there's still bunch of players who could go in,
a bunch of players who could come out, And that
to me is a much bigger deal. It's hard to
get a handle on teams, Yeah, based on their practices.

So according to AI, do we believe AI? By the
way everything AI says? Ai says Ohio State, Nebraska USC
not doing spring games this year, So there you go.

John, Is the Huskies non conference schedule of problem or
do they have all the strength of schedule they need
from the nine conference games?

I think it depends on what the situation is at
the end of the year. If they're if it's neck
and neck with let's say a team for the eleventh seed,
and that team has got a high level non conference victory,
then the Huskies could be in trouble. If it's clear
cut for the eleventh seed, you know, they've got some

material advantage in the resumes, maybe it won't bother them.

It's it's hard to know ahead.

But to me, you know, you're you're better off having
one a level game and certainly winning it, but even
playing it.

I always would vote for taking that game.

Right Yeah, Carlo State, UC Davis, and then of course
Wazoo in the Apple got before the Huskies take on
Ohio State and Maryland. I mean, that's two pretty good
teams right back to back weeks of making the trip
to Maryland and play in Ohio State.

And was not anymore to be totally honest with you, man,
I mean, most of the stuff I look at as
on social media Twitter, and it's ninety eight percent nonsense.
Am I Am I seeing this correctly that there's proposals
for the College Football Playoff that inclusion would be partly
based on television ratings for teams and how many people
watch their games.

Is that accurate?

It is accurate in that ESPN reported it. Now I
have been told that that component has not actually or
I shouldn't say has. It was not discussed by the
commissioners prior to their meeting today. They have their three
day spring meetings this week. Until they gathered this morning,

that proposal had not been discussed. I sense that it
came either from the CFP or maybe from a school,
but it had not been seriously discussed by the commissioners.
We will see if they do dig into it over
the course of these three days. I think that there'd
be a lot of pushback on that, frankly, and there

should be. They Basically what happened is the Commissioners asked
the CFP for more options for twenty twenty six and beyond,
more than just twelve or fourteen teams, more than all
at all at large or all or five champions or
fourteen aqs. They wanted other options, and that was one

of the options that I guess the CFP came up with.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
But I can't see that happening.
Speaker 7 (04:54):
John, How would you foster more Big ten SEC matchups
in September? Would it be to have like an entity
that sets the non conference schedules for all the Power
four teams or would it be just to guarantee, Hey,
the Big ten's gonna get four teams in the SEC
is gonna get four teams in the playoffs, so you
don't have to worry about losing a non conference game.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Well, that's it.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
It starts at the end of the process. Those two
conferences playing each other in September, the start of the season.
The process begins at the end of the year with
the selection committee. You know, basically they want to defang
the committee and not allow the committee to make the

decisions on who gets in and who gets out because
they're worried the Big ten is worried that if Washington
plays LSU and loses that game, it could cost the
Huskies a bit. They don't want that to happen. They
want those kind of games to be bonuses, not detractions
from your resume. But they don't trust the committee, and
they shouldn't trust them committee. If they create the aqs,

then it's up to the Big Ten whether the Huskies
get in, you know, a Big Ten process, It's not
up to the committee. So that's why the eight qs
are basically to create a pathway for the two conferences
to play games against each other in September without negative repercussions.

Well, John Wilner's with us, and John, obviously you covering
the PAC twelve, Pac ten, hell, you might go back
to the Pack eight.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I got no idea.

One of the great things about West Coast football and
this conference has been the Rose Bowl.

Obviously, the Big Ten has history with the Rose Bowl
as well, just like the PAC twelve PAC ten did.
But the story came out today that they're going to
have three of the New Year's excuse me, three of
the quarter final games we played on New Year's Day,
one on New Year's Eve. So the Orange Bowl is
going to go at nine am Pacific time. The Sugar
Bowl is going to go at five o'clock Pacific time,

and the Rose Bowl, which traditionally starts around what two
fifty team two thirty or so something like that, is
going to now start at one o'clock. And I mean,
I'm watching people on social media.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Lose their mind.

How could they do that? This is crazy? I mean
to me, it's like more daylight. You get that sunset,
you know, mid fourth quarter whatever. Why is it a
problem because people don't like breaking with tradition and the
Rose Bull has always kicked off at the same time.

What do you think of that idea?
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And do you think people should be bothered by the
idea of the Rose bulls changing their kickoff time, which,
let's face it, in my lifetime they've never done.

I So here's the the whole deal with it is
that the Rose Bull didn't want to move off two
o'clock because they want the sun setting over the mountains
in the middle of the third quarter. Right, It is
all about the TV visuals, right, And moving kickoff back
or moving it up to one o'clock means if it's

a quick game, the sun might be setting.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Like at the end of the fourth quarter. That's true,
and then you don't get that TV visual.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Right, get it what it's all about. But here's the thing.

The problem is that you start that game at ten
to fifteen and it goes close to four hours. All
of a sudden, the Sugar Bowl is being pushed to
basically a nine o'clock Eastern start.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
And that's the problem. It's too late.

So the Rose Bowl has basically agreed to move up
an hour because they don't nobody wants the Sugar Bowl
to start that late. Then with the Sugar Bowl starting.

At eight, John, it's too early for an official What
the hell are you're talking about, Wilner?

I was like, oh, this is great, this is great.
I'm gonna see Demon Williams somewhere in the top three.
I had to go down to not six, not seven, eighth.
Demond Williams is eighth in the Big ten in your rankings, Judge,
that's just ex you don't know what you're talking about
other than injury. I cannot foresee any possible way he

has the eighth best season of any quarterback of the conference.

Next year.

Maybe not, we'll see.

I went down and I gave I gave a lot
of preference, not entirely, but a lot of preference to experience.
And you know, there's a couple of guys coming into
the to the Big ten, like Mark Gronowski from South
Dakota State.

He won two FCS championships.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
So I you know, this point in the year, I
favored experience. Now I'm gonna redo it at the end
of training camp. We'll see where Williams fits. But uh,
you know, when you add IAmA Lieva, you add Gronowski.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
Yeah, he ended up getting pushed down a little bit.
But you know, he is pretty good. I I don't
think it's top half.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Did you use talent as a wow wow?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Make him say that to your face next time.

That's a good question. But what But how much does
talent matter?

It matters to a certain degree, but when it's super
inexperienced and he's going to be going through the rigors
of the Big ten schedules week after week after week,
you know, talent doesn't matter as much as other things.
And we'll see, we'll see how he does. But at
this point, you know, he's I would put up top half.

Yeah, I mean, we'll see, but I think that's a
little low myself. But again, I mean you also you
also called the Huskies, uh, when we all thought they'd
be a little better on the basketball court, and you
said they're in trouble and you were right about that.

You hang your you know what's out there with these
opinions and get people like dicking Softy all angry at you,
telling you how dumb you are, and then you come
back and rub it in our face when we're wrong. Uh,

would not touch cam Ward with the number one pick.
And you would not touch the door Sanders or a
ninety seven foot pole, you know, like either one of
these guys. Right, So has your opinion changed at all
on either one of these dudes? Because cam Ward is
about to be in forty eight hours from now, the
number one pick in the NFL Draft.

My opinion has not changed. I have seen nothing that
warrants reconsideration. I mean, in fact, the whole Colorado retirement
jersey thing in some ways just reinforces my view. Just
go way away from Sanders, you know. I just think
that whole thing is ridiculous and kind of shows the

entitled culture that he has grown up in. So no,
I you know, I think that I honestly think that
the guy who's the sleeper quarterback is Tyler Shuck, who
started his career at Oregon in twenty twenty, then he
went to Texas text and then Louisville. I actually think
he could end up being the best one of these guys,

especially early. But if I would not pick either of them,
I would trade down as to get as many.

If I was the Seahawks, I would try and get
you know, quarterback middle rounds.

Jalen mil Road, maybe Middle Round to be there, but
I would not pick either of those guys.

Shad We're going to d On and say, hey Dad,

think if he was totally against it, they wouldn't have

that a kid would do something like that, would you
be stunned if shaduor Sanders, son of Dion, who grew
up with the cockiest football player in the history of
the NFL, and for good reason, he might be the
best defensive player of all time, you can certainly make
the argument, would you put it past Shador Sanders to

No, I wouldn't put it past him. But again, just
you look at the how that program is right now
functioning from just how they also are behaving on social
media and what they're doing in that, and just how
the Colorado Buffalo's program is showing themselves. It's just the
Dion Sanders show, and it's just he's making all the

calls and like for a kid also who's very focused
on what's coming up here in the next week. I
just I don't think Shadora had a thing to do
with this. I think it's just it's Dion again. And
I think it comes back to the social media. It's
trying to make headlines. It's trying to be out there
and trying to, you know, get the clicks and get
the eyesight because right now, I mean, guys, the NFL

Draft is on Thursday, and for the last two weeks,
so much of this conversation, you know, whether it's with
John or whether it's with really anybody, we've been talking
about Colorado, we've been talking about this darn football program.
Is Deon Sanders wanting to get everybody's eyes on him.

Employ too, because now, now, if you're a great quarterback.
You can come in.

Geez, all I gotta do is do what Shador Sanders
did last year and the number retired.

I mean, we have talked more Colorado football in the

about Colorado heading up to the draft than any other team.
I mean, all the talent at Ohio State's got the

about Huskies don't really have one guy, and that's Carson
brun There's probably a Day three pick. To be honest
with you, we haven't talked much about them. But you're
You're exactly right. I mean, I mean, if the goal

is to get chatter and to get people talking about
your program, mission accomplished.

Guys that Shador Sanders overhears that they're going to retire
Travis Hunter's number and says, hey, what about me?

would potentially say something like that. Do I believe that.

Leaf going nutsoll on a reporter in the San Diego
Chargers locker room, Like, how is this guy gonna handle

I don't know, I'm just I'm really curious, man, It's
very intriguing. We're gonna break uh, maybe the greatest gender
reveal of all time. I think gender reveals are dumb,
but this is maybe the greatest one ever.

I just think that it would be fruitless for me

could probably watch tape on a receiver, watch tape on

Well, the first thing you want that I would assume,
and we can talk to you about this is is
he getting blown off the ball?

against anybody. By the way, I'm not a big fan
of gender reveals at all. I don't know what you
guys think about it, and Dick the whole gender reveal
phenomenon and not for me kind of feels like it's

kind of losing some juice over the years.

is the way to do it, and the only way
to do it is if you're a Major League baseball
player or you have access. So Trey Turner, bryce Harper's
teammate of Philadelphia, knew the gender of Bryce Harper's baby
before him and his wife did. So I think this
is on Sunday, if I'm not mistaken, maybe Monday, I think.

So Trey Turner is told by somebody obviously who knows
the gender of the baby. So Bryce Harper is in
the dugout and he's going up to bat and his
wife is sitting in the stands at the at the
Phillies game.

Neither one of them know the gender of the baby.

Do They no trays going to reveal it at this time.

So Trey Turner looks at Bryce Harper before he goes
to is at bat and has two bats, a pink
bat and a blue bat, and he hands Bryce Harper
the blue bat and then he takes it to the
plate with him and his wife is in the stands
and sees Bryce Harper with a blue bat at home
plate and starts crying her ass off.

Wow, how freaking cool is that? Now? That's cool?

Turner passed along a bright blue bat and the Harper's
found out they were having a boy. Kayla Harper, Bryce's wife,
was in the crowd and learned the gender of the
new baby as her husband walked out to the plate,

a unique way. He's not really truly a tight end.
But Juwan Johnson was just okay, and they used him
like any other normal, not overused tight end. So like,

is it really worth getting a great tight end if
we're actually I mean, it's the Jimmy Graham thing right,
didn't use Jimmy Graham, I don't think as much as
we all hope we would. So do we really want
that type of guy or do we just fix the
damn need that we actually need, which is interior freaking
offensive line. Get the best guard in the draft is
Tyler Booker, Plug him into a guard, and then don't

think again for the next five years.

lineups kind of in general, man, how do you want
to kind of reward guys who previously gave you a
good game, a good match, versus just getting maybe the
better player on the field for that day.

That's the that's the million dollar question. I mean, you
got to you got to balance out reality where you know,
you think that you know, one guy's considerably better, but
maybe the other guy fits better, the pieces fit together
a little bit better differently. I mean that's coaching in
a nutshell. You you got to maximize the talent that

you have. You got to get the players to believe
and you know they can win games, and you got
to put it all together. And you know, look, I
made some good choices with one three nothing.

It's gonna be a little bit tricky because, yeah, you
might think that Albert and Jordan and Alex start, but
you know, the other team played well. The other the
other group played well.

You know, Look, I mean we take a lot of information,
we look at our opponents. But you know, I'm one
of the coaches that you know, I don't really like
to change my team too much because of an opponent.
You make little tweaks, but I always want teams to
change for us. Uh. So, you know, you put your
best eleven guys on the field, or the best pairings

with the best eleven, and you know you make choices,
and players that are performing are going to get playing time.

But you make the final call on the roster like
it's it's your sure.

not meaningless. But boy, with the transfer portal and the
fact that everybody's scared to do anything at the spring game,
I kind of have not been paying close attention. I've

open for the rest of this week for football, and
you know, there's still bunch of players who could go in,
a bunch of players who could come out, And that
to me is a much bigger deal. It's hard to
get a handle on teams, Yeah, based on their practices.

So according to AI, do we believe AI? By the
way everything AI says? Ai says Ohio State, Nebraska USC
not doing spring games this year, So there you go.

John, Is the Huskies non conference schedule of problem or
do they have all the strength of schedule they need
from the nine conference games?
Speaker 6 (02:23):
I think it depends on what the situation is at
the end of the year. If they're if it's neck
and neck with let's say a team for the eleventh seed,
and that team has got a high level non conference victory,
then the Huskies could be in trouble. If it's clear
cut for the eleventh seed, you know, they've got some

material advantage in the resumes, maybe it won't bother them.

It's it's hard to know ahead.

But to me, you know, you're you're better off having
one a level game and certainly winning it, but even
playing it.

I always would vote for taking that game.

Ohio State and Maryland. I mean, that's two pretty good

And was not anymore to be totally honest with you, man,
I mean, most of the stuff I look at as
on social media Twitter, and it's ninety eight percent nonsense.
Am I Am I seeing this correctly that there's proposals
for the College Football Playoff that inclusion would be partly
based on television ratings for teams and how many people
watch their games.

Is that accurate?

It is accurate in that ESPN reported it. Now I
have been told that that component has not actually or
I shouldn't say has. It was not discussed by the
commissioners prior to their meeting today. They have their three
day spring meetings this week. Until they gathered this morning,

that proposal had not been discussed. I sense that it
came either from the CFP or maybe from a school,
but it had not been seriously discussed by the commissioners.
We will see if they do dig into it over
the course of these three days. I think that there'd
be a lot of pushback on that, frankly, and there
(04:27):
should be. They Basically what happened is the Commissioners asked
the CFP for more options for twenty twenty six and beyond,
more than just twelve or fourteen teams, more than all
at all at large or all or five champions or
fourteen aqs. They wanted other options, and that was one
(04:49):
of the options that I guess the CFP came up with.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
But I can't see that happening.
Speaker 7 (04:54):
John, How would you foster more Big ten SEC matchups
in September? Would it be to have like an entity
that sets the non conference schedules for all the Power
four teams or would it be just to guarantee, Hey,
the Big ten's gonna get four teams in the SEC
is gonna get four teams in the playoffs, so you
don't have to worry about losing a non conference game.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Well, that's it.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
It starts at the end of the process. Those two
conferences playing each other in September, the start of the season.
The process begins at the end of the year with
the selection committee. You know, basically they want to defang
the committee and not allow the committee to make the

decisions on who gets in and who gets out because
they're worried the Big ten is worried that if Washington
plays LSU and loses that game, it could cost the
Huskies a bit. They don't want that to happen. They
want those kind of games to be bonuses, not detractions
from your resume. But they don't trust the committee, and
they shouldn't trust them committee. If they create the aqs,
(06:03):
then it's up to the Big Ten whether the Huskies
get in, you know, a Big Ten process, It's not
up to the committee. So that's why the eight qs
are basically to create a pathway for the two conferences
to play games against each other in September without negative repercussions.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Well, John Wilner's with us, and John, obviously you covering
the PAC twelve, Pac ten, hell, you might go back
to the Pack eight.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I got no idea.

One of the great things about West Coast football and
this conference has been the Rose Bowl.

Obviously, the Big Ten has history with the Rose Bowl
as well, just like the PAC twelve PAC ten did.
But the story came out today that they're going to
have three of the New Year's excuse me, three of
the quarter final games we played on New Year's Day,
one on New Year's Eve. So the Orange Bowl is
going to go at nine am Pacific time. The Sugar
Bowl is going to go at five o'clock Pacific time,

and the Rose Bowl, which traditionally starts around what two
fifty team two thirty or so something like that, is
going to now start at one o'clock. And I mean,
I'm watching people on social media.

Lose their mind.

How could they do that? This is crazy? I mean
to me, it's like more daylight. You get that sunset,
you know, mid fourth quarter whatever. Why is it a
problem because people don't like breaking with tradition and the
Rose Bull has always kicked off at the same time.

What do you think of that idea?

And do you think people should be bothered by the
idea of the Rose bulls changing their kickoff time, which,
let's face it, in my lifetime they've never done.

I So here's the the whole deal with it is
that the Rose Bull didn't want to move off two
o'clock because they want the sun setting over the mountains
in the middle of the third quarter. Right, It is
all about the TV visuals, right, And moving kickoff back
or moving it up to one o'clock means if it's

a quick game, the sun might be setting.

Like at the end of the fourth quarter. That's true,
and then you don't get that TV visual.

The problem is that you start that game at ten
to fifteen and it goes close to four hours. All
of a sudden, the Sugar Bowl is being pushed to

So the Rose Bowl has basically agreed to move up
an hour because they don't nobody wants the Sugar Bowl

So I you know, this point in the year, I
favored experience. Now I'm gonna redo it at the end
of training camp. We'll see where Williams fits. But uh,

Yeah, he ended up getting pushed down a little bit.
But you know, he is pretty good. I I don't
think it's top half.

the guy who's the sleeper quarterback is Tyler Shuck, who
started his career at Oregon in twenty twenty, then he

especially early. But if I would not pick either of them,
I would trade down as to get as many.

plate and starts crying her ass off.

new baby as her husband walked out to the plate,
and on Monday, she posted reaction on Instagram.

I mean, if you're gonna do a gender reveal, that's
the way to do it exactly. Just got a major
league baseball player to help you out with it. We
wanted to be surprised. We found out together. We recruited

before he told us and was given two bats, one pink,
one blue. Right before Bryce's first at bat, Trey gave
him the bat that matched the baby's gender. We're so

excited to add another boy to the family to even

to have them land one of those two tight ends.
Tyler Warren is my favorite, but I would love to

I get tight ends are fun and they're attractive, and

Here's my question is how good of a tight end
do you actually need in this offense? A we don't
know how much Kubiak's offense leans on a great tight
end play. I mean, look at the Saints. I mean,
obviously you have a guy in Taysom Hill who's used
a unique way. He's not really truly a tight end.
But Juwan Johnson was just okay, and they used him
like any other normal, not overused tight end. So like,

is it really worth getting a great tight end if
we're actually I mean, it's the Jimmy Graham thing right,
didn't use Jimmy Graham, I don't think as much as
we all hope we would. So do we really want
that type of guy or do we just fix the
damn need that we actually need, which is interior freaking
offensive line. Get the best guard in the draft is
Tyler Booker, Plug him into a guard, and then don't

think again for the next five years.

I mean it's a huge need. It's the biggest need
in the football team. And it's not even close right,

You've been lazy investing in interior offensive lineman even lazy

got to you got to balance out reality where you know,
you think that you know, one guy's considerably better, but
maybe the other guy fits better, the pieces fit together
a little bit better differently. I mean that's coaching in
a nutshell. You you got to maximize the talent that

you have. You got to get the players to believe
and you know they can win games, and you got
to put it all together. And you know, look, I
made some good choices with one three nothing.

It's gonna be a little bit tricky because, yeah, you
might think that Albert and Jordan and Alex start, but

of the coaches that you know, I don't really like

You make little tweaks, but I always want teams to
change for us. Uh. So, you know, you put your
best eleven guys on the field, or the best pairings

with the best eleven, and you know you make choices,
and players that are performing are going to get playing time.
