Speaker 1 (00:00):
Where God, I don't know, man, I mean, we're taking
just to take you guys behind the scenes. And I know, Dick,
you mentioned this today off the air, that we were
talking about this on the air yesterday, that we're gonna
do a bracket on the show today with the most
painful moment or the most painful potential moment in Seattle
sports history, like, for example, super Bowl forty nine, Sonics
(00:24):
leaving for Oklahoma Huskies lose.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
To Yukon twice.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Whatever, right, things like that, But Tombo, what would happen
if the Ducks sever won a title? What would happen
if the thunder everyone? And then Jackson and I I
think you kind of eventually came on boards. So what
are we doing here? Wait a minute, time tell you
this stop the thunder loss last night. We're all in
a good mood y. Yeah, it's Friday. Like, what are
we doing?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Not?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Down right?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I mean, do we want to just like go on
the air and just invite people to come to the
studio so we can kick them in the nuts? Is
that what we're talking about doing. No, we want people
to have fun on this show, So the hell with that.
We'll wait on that until something actually is topical that
would give it like like, for example, if the Thunder
had won.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Last night, right, if they'd won last night.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Maybe that it makes sense. But no, the Nuggets got
the job done, the Thunder lost. They're going back to
Oklahoma City for Game seven. I'll be honest with you,
I don't really give Denver much of a chance to
win Game seven. I heard Kendrick Perkins on TV last
night saying I'll give him a forty percent chance to
win the game, and I'll probably agree with that, maybe maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Thirty percent chance a little bit less.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
But this is one of those games where I'm going
to approach this game on Sunday the same way I
approached the Apple Kepper every year, and maybe really I
should start approaching it the way I approach the Organ
game every year too. Just bet them, and hey, if
they win and the Huskies lose, all right, couple of
bucks for the effort, whatever. But if the Husky's pulling
off and I lose my bet, I don't give a damn.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I'm a happy camper either way.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
So I'm taking the Thunder and the money line on Sunday,
and if the Nuggets get the job done, I will
gladly pay this.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
What is the money, Lion, It's gotta be like minus
two foot.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Last time I checked was minus three thirty five.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, making heavy freaking favorite something, right, Yeah, well the
number seven and a half. You could bet the number.
I might, I might do both, to be totally honest
with you.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Yeah, but if you bet the number, you could still lose.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
You could still I could, I could, but I could.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
But again, if if if Oklahoma wins the game and
Denver happens to cover, right, it'd be nice to have
a couple of bucks to help cops the pain after
the Thunder make the conference finals. But look, this is great, right,
I mean, this is what being an NBA fan I
think is all about, you know, being invested in the
NBA playoffs. I don't like the reason why we're invested, Dick,
(02:40):
in the NBA playoffs. I know you're a you're a
big basketball fan, but a lot of people this time
of the year need a reason to kind of pay attention,
and this is our reason to pay attention.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Yeah, I know it is.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
And you know, while last night was not a great
basketball game, I mean, hopefully it's getting yeah, exactly, hopefully
it's getting eyeballs on the playoffs because the playoffs as
a whole, the whole have been fantastic, and the people
that have been watching it consistently through the playoffs realized
has been fantastic. And maybe those maybe there's just a
sliver of those that I like to make fun of
that say, oh, the NBA sucks, NBA socks, NBA sucks.
(03:12):
That's maybe taking a peak just because Denver and Oklahoma
City are playing, that are gonna realize, Okay, maybe it
doesn't suck that much.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Right, Yeah, Well, look, I mean I think for me, again,
like we've talked about before, the NBA still has a
regular season issue that they have to sort out, you know.
I mean, it's no surprise, and as the games get
more important, obviously the ratings will go up because the
quality of play will improve, right, I mean, it's it's
absolutely not a surprise that this is happening. But it
does remind us in a lot of ways of what
(03:42):
we're missing, right, and it feels like we're getting closer.
I think somebody asked us, maybe it was you, Dick,
or maybe it was you know Bartow. We had on
yesterday from Denver who said, if the Sonics come back,
Will you still harbor the same amount of animosity for
the Thunder and I'm always gonna hate him. Maybe it'll
go down a little bit when the Sonics come back, right,
(04:03):
But can you imagine, guys, I mean, think about how
great that that NFC Championship game was between the Seahawks
and Niners. Think about that playoff game with the Raiders
in the playoff game with the Broncos right back in
the day, two teams in your division.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Can you imagine.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Close your eyes for a second and imagine how freaking
nutsoe a Thunder Sonics Western Conference Finals would be.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
It would be incredible?
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Are you kidding?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Man?
Speaker 4 (04:27):
And I don't think the I don't think the Animasi
is gonna die off because just think of what the
Animosi is going to feel like Game one of Climate
Pledgerina against the Oklahoma City Thunder. You will be able
to cut the hatred with a chainsaw in that building.
So I don't think it's gonna go away even if
we even when we get the team back.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
At Jackson, do you think they'll make the visiting fans
sit up in the corner like they do in soccer?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I don't Thunder fans.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
I don't think they do that anywhere but soccer, so
I don't think that'll exist, but I would love it
if they did. Like just basically, just make a disclaimer.
If you are a Thunder fan coming, you must not
purchase tickets except for this section.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Would about the balls to show up?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
What about I'm sure?
Speaker 5 (05:06):
Yeah, of course?
Speaker 2 (05:07):
What about? What about making a game one? Would you
want it to be game one?
Speaker 8 (05:10):
No?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
I wouldn't want to be game one because I want
to Game one needs to be a celebration, not I
can't stand the Thunder game.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah, give them like the Wizards or something, right, somebody
that can just beat up on That's right? All right, Well,
here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
PJ. Carlismo is going to join us. Coming up next segment.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Uh, We're gonna PGA Championship again from Quohalo with Westwood
one obviously two coming in a few minutes. We've got
a big show to get to. Hugh Milbourne's gonna join
at five our bracket with our all time favorite non
Seattle sports moment, which includes a lot of Thunder losses
and a lot of Niner losses and Oregon losses. By
the way, we'll do that at four o'clock today, right here,
(05:46):
live on a Friday on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 9 (05:51):
Podcasting live from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast
studio now Doctor Softie and Dick powered by Emerald Queen Casino,
Capital of the Northwest on sports Radio and Nighties three
point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
All right, boys and girls, we're back on a busy
Friday right here on ninety three to three kjr FM
and NBA Playoffs Hot and Heavy Boston the Knicks tonight,
Cel Dick's looking to stave off elimination in Game six
tonight Nicks can go to the Conference finals for a
matchup with Indiana coming up tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
That game is that what time? Five pm? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Five pm from New York and then Game seven Sunday
Oklahoma City and Denver. One guy we turned to for
NBA playoff coverage because he says yes and everybody else
says no. Our friend PJ Carlismo coach. How you feeling, man,
what's going on?
Speaker 8 (06:44):
Not much? Softy Dick. Good talking to you guys in
New York. And was supposed to do a couple of
these Boston games. But I'm a little bit of a
back issue, so I'm laying low for two games and
then hopefully joined back up with the Western Conference Final.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
I got you.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
We'll rest up, my friend, and we were thankful that
it didn't affect your voice because we love having your
thoughts on the NBA playoffs. And why don't we just
start with what you saw last night with Denver in
Oklahoma City, because as you know, PJ, all of Seattle
is rooting hard and I mean hard for the Denver Nuggets.
Like that, right now, talk about what you saw last
night and what your thoughts are in Game seven.
Speaker 8 (07:22):
Well, first of all, a great effort. I think Nicola
Jokic is Nicola jokicch And I'll start by saying before it,
regardless of what happens, I expect they'll both be fabulous
again on Sunday. It's just it's sad that whichever one
does not get the MVP, it's probably gonna be okch.
(07:46):
It's almost criminal to have the kind of year they
both had. They didn't have good they weren't the best
players in the league this year. They had historic years.
I mean, you'd stand up to almost any year any
players ever had in the NBA. Fact that one of
them is not going to get the MVP trophy. Is sad.
The two of them are. They're different, they're so good,
(08:08):
They're so good in so many ways. It's amazing, And selfishly,
I hope that Game seven lives up to that. I
hope both of them play like what they are. The
best two players in the league, and you know one
of them is going to get it, one of them
is not. One of them gets to go forward. But
it's amazing to watch them play. Jamal Murray last night
(08:29):
with a really gutty performance, which is impressive. And the
difference in the game was just that. I mean, there
was four or five other things that were important, but
they had two of the three best players in the
game Nicola and forget how you wherever you want to
put Shay or Nicola one or one A, but Jamal
Murray was the next best player in the game and
(08:49):
that was why they won. They had two of the
top three players. As good a year as Jalen Williams
has had and it's been fantastic. He wasn't you know,
bet Jalen Williams last night. That could be a big
factor on Sunday. If if again, if Nicole and Jamal
Murray are the two best players on the floor. That's
gonna be that's gonna give Denver a chance. Now, they
(09:11):
needed a whole lot of other things to happen. Michael
Porter finally made a couple of shots. Julian Strather was unbelievable.
I'm sure all the zag fans that live in Seattle
were enjoying watching me and ched Holmgen play. But I
mean for Julian Strawther, I mean he he basically had
contributed very little. Christian Brown was excellent again, they just
(09:31):
had more players step up. And that's been the okay
ce m o okay, see's the deepest team in the league.
But that no uses all his players. I mean there's
guys I think the average fan doesn't even know, Like
I don't given night of Cason Wallace and Aaron Wiggins.
These other guys come in big Jallen Williams. They have
so many guys that you know, not even talking about,
(09:53):
you know, the Honchos, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein and and
Cheded Holgen. It's such a deep team. There's so good defensively,
they disrupt you so much with their forcing the turnovers
and scoring in transition, and they have so many three
point shooters that it's amazing. They were the best team
in the NBA this year, not by a little conclusively,
(10:14):
but last year when the Celtics won, it was the
first time. And I should notice that. I'm gonna say five, six,
seven years that the best team in the regular season
won the championship. So it just doesn't always go that way.
I think it's going to be I thought it was
a great game last night, Straw that was magnificent. Russell
Rustberot struggled in the first half, and then he made
(10:36):
a huge play late in the game when they were
turning the ball over like crazy. That time he split
the trap, went into the rim and laid it in.
It was a big, big play. He also had the
tap Lee bound. He had two good one assist. One
should have been an assist. Somebody else missed with either
Watson or one of the other players missed a layup
off a good pass by Russell. They need to do
(10:58):
that again. They need to have Jokic and Jamal be
at the top of their game. They need somebody else,
a couple guys. Christian Brown was really good last night.
They need Michael Porter to make a couple of shots,
or Russell to make a couple of shots, and then
somebody to be at the Watson or that blob up
the defensive block that that Watson made that wiped out
(11:19):
a fast break their way and put it together. It
was a great That's been the best series by far,
you know, fantastic series. Edge to ok See they're playing
at home. They still have shown the tendency to be
able to turn over Denver when they get behind, and
I'm wondering if Mark Dagnall is not going to press
more and sooner in Game seven, just get after them
(11:41):
and make them handle the ball some more, because it's
really been a problem for Denver. And when they when
they turn it's not just that they turn you over.
When they turn you over, they score, they leave, they
leave the league and fewest turnovers themselves, most turnovers forced,
and most points off turn So that's such a big
(12:01):
part of Okac's game that sometimes even if they're not
making their trees or some of their guys don't look
that great, they just beat you a team defense and
points off turnovers. So Denver's going to have to withstand that. Yes,
it's an advantage, you know, being in the home court,
but I don't think that will be the deciding There's
also a big experience advantage for Denver. Even though okay
(12:25):
See went to the playoffs last year, Denver won two
years ago. Denver has some key contributors you know, from
an NBA championship team that I think will you know,
if you're a Denver fan, hopefully enable them to produce
any Game seven on the road. Okay See still has
to prove they can get to that next level that
they can win a you know, a huge series. They
(12:47):
didn't get out of the second round last year. Their
goal this year from day one has been to win
a championship. If they do anything other than win a championship,
this is going to be a disappointing year for the Thunder.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
PJ Carlismo joining us and which every time the Joker
goes out of the game, I just hold my breath.
I turned blue until coach brings him back into the game.
But they were able to stand that last game. He
did not play for seven of the minutes in that game,
and normally when he's out for those four to ten
minutes a game, they get out scored like fifteen to
two every game. Why were they able to stand that
(13:20):
last night?
Speaker 8 (13:21):
Guys stepping up and a little bit of cooperation from
OKCE OKC. Guys other than SGA missed shots, they kind
of They missed some shots at a critical time that
you know, early second and early fourth is when OKAC
goes to their bench too, and even though their bench
is deeper, they didn't. They didn't perform last night. Some
(13:41):
of those guys that you know are a pretty consistent
basis all year have been providing a lift for did
not do that last night. Jamal Murray, who has to
carry the team when jokers out, stepped up and Julian
Straw just blew their minds knocking out of those three.
He had ten points at those points so quickly. It
(14:03):
was unbelievable. I thought Christian Brown was Brown and Watson's
defense was fantastic. All you can do is, I mean,
they're making SGA work and he makes it look like
there's nobody guarding them. He's that good. But I just
think more players, I know it's simplistic, but more players
played better for Denver than did Okay sees guys, and
(14:27):
normally that doesn't happen because Okay, just keeps throwing bodies
at you, and they find the ones that are playing
good on a particular night and they all play. Dagnolf
uses his bench better than anybody. But last night, in
those non Jokic minutes, they got out played, and that
was mainly role players getting out played.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Carls on with us.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
So you know, the only thing that matters to me
is just getting the Thunder out of there. Okay, I
don't really care who wins the title, to be honest
with you, I just wanted to not be okay. See,
So in your professional opinion, PJ, who would give them
the biggest fit who left?
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I mean Denver obviously is you know, if the Thunder,
for example, win Sunday at home, which I think they're
going to, is it Minnesota in the conference final and
then Boston or New York or Indiana who's already advanced.
If the Thunder get this done Sunday and make the
conference final, who remaining do you think would give them
the biggest matchup problem?
Speaker 8 (15:28):
Prior I'll beg off, prior to the JT jury, Jason Tatum,
it would have been Boston, a healthy Boston, And I'm
really copping out now, But it's a fact. Yeah, Boston
without Jason Tatum and with a not healthy Kristaps Porzingis
that virus whatever he's got that they don't know. They
truly don't know. They're not being secretive about it. They
(15:49):
haven't figured the damn thing out. But he's not playing
like Kristaps porzingis. And Luke Cornette more than picked him
up the other night. He was fantastic. But I just
don't I think the Celtics are out last year, so
they could have been everybody's back, an entire team was back,
and if they're healthy and everybody's seeing how important health
is in the playoffs, it comes back to us every year.
(16:10):
It kind of colored the beginning of that Indiana Cleveland series.
It certainly was a factor in Boston. You're seeing key
guys getting hurt and dramatically changing the matchups. I think
I put Boston too. I put the team that has
the best chance to knock out the thunder is in
the Western Conference finals, Minnesota, and he's split with him
(16:33):
during the year. They have a lot of weapons. They
got a great young player. Again, I'm not ready. I'm
not sure kind of what I said about Jalen Williams.
Ant's probably done a little more to this point, but
can Ant do it, you know in the Western Conference Finals?
Can he get them over the top of the Western
Conference Finals? Jujush Randall's playing great, Mike Conley, those other guys,
(16:54):
now's rietoff the bench that they're strong. But I think
it's going to come down to whether Ant man can
you know, the best man? Can he compete with Sga.
He doesn't have to out play him, but he's got
to be right there with him, you know the way
Yo kiit Chen Murray are with him in this round.
So I say Minnesota first, Boston. If somehow they come
(17:15):
back from the dead and win three in a row,
they would be the second biggest option. To me, it
is a challenge for the thunder Well coach.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Before we let you go, let's talk about that game
coming up in about an hour and a half. I mean,
Vegas thinks it's going to be a game. I mean
I think if you just thought, okay, and New York's
going to take care of business at home, get rid
of the Celtics who are underhanded. But two and a
half points spread, So do you think this goes down
to the wire and we got a chance to send
it to a game seven.
Speaker 8 (17:42):
I think it's a very good chance send it to seven.
I think the first thing that realizes Boston was the
best team in the NBA on the road this year,
better in Cleveland, better than ok See. They won thirty
three games. I believe they were thirty three and eighteen
on the road, which is absurd. They were a road
team than they were a home team. They were better
away from TV Garden than they were there. And even
(18:05):
without JT and even with Chris STAPs, probably at less
than one hundred percent, the fact that they're playing on
the road will not impact Boston as much as it
would impact most teams. They thrive on the road. Now,
Jalen Brown's got to play out of his mind, which
I think he'll do, as will Jalen Brunson for the Knicks.
(18:25):
And then it's gonna be Josh Hart's predictable. What you're
gonna get. He's gonna play like a monster. He's gonna
be good. But Kyle Anthony Towns needs to have a
big game. H O g Ananold. He has to make
Jalen Brown work, which is not easy. But he's got
to make him work. I kind of feel about Derek
White the same way I feel about Josh Hart. I'm
very confident he's gonna he does too many things. He
(18:47):
plays defense, he comes up with rebounds, he makes big shots,
he can take the ball to the basket. I think
Derek White is gonna have a big game too, and
so it's gonna become other guys again, Al Horfu, who's
playing great at eight. Luke Cornette, you saw what he
did the other night. Peyton Fritchard off the bench. I
know a lot of you know, people up our way
loved Peyton from when he was at at Oregon. And
(19:09):
he's the sixth man of the year. He's got to
make shots. Sam Houser's got to make shots. They can
do that. They're deeper that they have more bodies for
sure than the Knicks too. That could be a factor
just in terms of I don't think the Knicks are
necessarily gonna get tired. But if you have seven, eight,
nine guys to throw out there, you know there's there's
a chance somebody, you know, another guy's gonna step up,
(19:30):
like Cornett did last night, like Junian Strawther did last night.
The Knixt list is a shorter list. Yeah, campaign Duce mcgride,
they can come off the bench and do something. But
Timms rely so much on that front five that it's
I think it's going to be much more on Karl,
Anthony Towns and O g An Andobie's defense to help
(19:52):
decide the game tonight.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
PJ, sorry to hear about your back. I want you
to rotate ice and heat every twenty minute.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
And if that doesn't work, whiskey, lots of whiskey, all right,
Paltch Tree bourbon coach.
Speaker 8 (20:05):
All right, Doc, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Thank you, all right, Bud, PJ.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Carlizamo who was hung up in New York with a
with a bad back, so he's to be watching basketball
tonight like the rest of us. And that and that
brings us great segue to our bracket, by the way,
at four o'clock today, our Friday bracket, because like I
said in the open, we were going to do a
bracket that felt totally different. If the thunder had won
last night, I think it would have made sense. But
the Nuggets won, So forget that. All of us are
(20:31):
Nugget fans right now, right, we can all agree on
that that We're all Denver fans right now after what
they did yesterday Oklahoma City. I got my Denver nugget
t shirt on the way. It'll beer between ten and
two tomorrow thanks to Amazon Prime. I can't wait to
wear that thing with with pride on Sunday. So the
bracket is your favorite non Seattle sports moment, all right now.
(20:51):
We got eight possibilities that we're gonna discuss here coming
up at four o'clock twenty twelve. Miami beating Oklahoma City
in the end NBA Finals, which by the way, they
have not been back to the NBA Finals since then.
Ohio State hammering Oregon in this year's Rose Bull Baltimore
beating the Niners in Super Bowl forty seven. That's the
(21:12):
game where the power went out, remember that, and the
Niners had the ball close to the to the end
zone they got denied with Kaepernick. Chiefs beating the Niners
when the Niners blew that ten point lead in the
fourth quarter. How about cam Newton beating Auburn, excuse me,
Oregon in the twenty eleven College Football Championship Game. Ohio
State beating Oregon in the twenty fourteen CFP Final, Damian
(21:35):
Lillard with his shot that knocked the thunder out in
twenty nineteen. And then one of my personal favorites, near
and dear to my heart, North Carolina denying Gonzaga the
twenty seventeen college basketball National champions in all right, yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
For you it is.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
So we are going to discuss this at four o'clock
our favorite non Seattle sports moments of all time and
vote on these at four In the meantime, Fun with
Audio next on ninety three to three KJRFM. It's now
time for someday in Dick's Fun with Audio, Jimmy g.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Paorn Star, Jimmy mister garoppolo.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Now let's have some fun with audio.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Alrighty, here we go the segment everybody's been waiting for
because it's damn good. By the way, Fun with Audio Slash.
Hey did you hear that? And it is jam freaking
pat baby. All right, let's get to it. Hey, Dick,
did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 2 (22:31):
What's that?
Speaker 8 (22:32):
Dick?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
We start, by the way with the NBA on Wednesdays,
inside the NBA postgame show before oka see loss last night,
Cheryl's Barkley declaring what the thunder will do in the
playoffs this season.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Nobody's going to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder this year.
They're gonna go to the championship and they're gonna win it.
Whether they're gonna beat Denver, They're gonna beat Minnesota, and
they gonna beat whoever come out to East. We keep
looking for holes. They they they are starting to believe.
I believe, and I could be wrong. I think the
(23:06):
Oklahoma City have proven they're the best team in the NBA.
I think he also said that about Cleveland, and I.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Said, I said.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Holes, But I'm the Oklahoma City don't have no holes.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
God, bless you, Chuck God. His track record, Oh, it's terrible.
Good good.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Oh, he has declared so many teams of dead that
they've come back and won.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
He it's well, I'll tell you what, if the Nuggets
win Sunday, you should play that on Monday again.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Sure, the crap out a whole day. Why not? What
the hell?
Speaker 1 (23:40):
So if his track record's bad, then that's a good
thing that he's predicting.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Very good. All right, Uh, hey, Dick, did you happen
to here? What's that Dick? Speaking of the Thunder.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Let's go back eleven years when during an Okay see
Brooklyn game on ESPN, Old Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy
remember him hanging on to Alonzo Morning's leg ripping into
Oklahoma City for having Seattle's franchise records.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
When they were Seattle stop fourteen for four putting Seattle
and the SuperSonics put the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
It's different teams. I don't want to hear about this anymore.
They got their.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Team taken away, and now you're gonna bring it up
and just put salt on the wound.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Will you stop yelling at me? No, stop with this franchise.
It's not the franchise. It's the thunder record. The thunder
record is nine for nine. Now do you feel better?
I feel better?
Speaker 8 (24:36):
Good?
Speaker 2 (24:37):
God bless him.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
I mean I remember playing that on the air when
had happened, and I obviously agree with him.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
I think it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
I mean, the only people that care about those moments
and those records were the fans that rooted for that
team when they happened. Nobody in Oklahoma City gives it
damn about Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, Fred Brown, Paul Silas
or Jack Sigma so if they don't, why should we
make them care?
Speaker 2 (25:02):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Well it's another just another great part about the Sonics
being back soon is that will all go to rest
now because the Thunder will have their own records.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
That have been established over the last eighteen years.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
And that's it. That's all are they are? They giving
us our history back.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Shared It's supposed to be shared history until we have
a team back.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Well, because I was watching Sonics Gate the other night,
that's not what those guys said.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Unless something's changed. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
I mean, you know, shared history, I get. But like
their media guide, like let's say the Sonics come back tomorrow, right,
is the Thunder media guide next year still going to
include all of those accomplishments by the seventy nine team
and ninety five ninety six Sonics.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
You're you're saying we're sharing. It's Adam Silver.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Both media guides will have the same history pre two
thousand and eight.
Speaker 7 (25:48):
Adam Silver has got to step in and yes, yes,
to be a shared history.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
That was the phrase.
Speaker 7 (25:54):
Think about this like the Baltimore Colts, Right, the Baltimore
Colts obviously you know the move and then where do
those franchise records go.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
To the Colts. Media, guys, they go to the Colts.
Speaker 7 (26:04):
The Colts, And that's the annoying thing, is like, oh,
Baltimore has a team, Yeah, but it's called the Colts.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
But nobody in Indianapolis cares about that stuff.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
They were there, and that's the thing, Like when they come,
it's not like it became the Oklahoma City Sonics. Like,
so it's not like that transfers that way. It's different
than Raven's Colts.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
I mean, I get your point that if you keep
the nickname, it's maybe easier to swallow, but it still
is about the town for me.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
That's what I'm saying. City, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
So I don't know, guys, I'm curious to see how
that whole thing plays out.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
All right, Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that
Let's get three or four? All right?
Speaker 1 (26:43):
After the Masters last month, Bryson d chambeau said that
Rory McElroy did not even talk to him through the
final round of augusta well. During a press conference before
the PREGA Championship this week, Rory was asked about not
talking to Bryson that day.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
I don't know what he was expecting. I mean, we're
trying to win the Masters. I'm not going to try
to be his best met out there. Yeah, look, we
look we everyone approaches the game different ways, and yeah,
like I I was focused on myself on what I
needed to do, and that's really all that it was.
(27:20):
You know, it wasn't anything against him or against the
just I needed. I felt that's what I needed to
do to to try to get the best out of
myself that day.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
I like both guys, but I don't like either comment.
I didn't like Bryson's first comment, and I don't know
my response.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
What did bon say? Was he was he complaining about
what did Roy's? Oh?
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Roy, Roy didn't say anything to me that day?
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Right?
Speaker 1 (27:42):
But okay, but but right, But that's different than somebody's saying,
what did Rory say to you?
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Nothing?
Speaker 1 (27:46):
He didn't talk to me? Or was he was he
complaining about that? Like, didn't bother him?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
He was asked twice, and in the second answer, he
he kind of emphasized that no, Rory wouldn't talk to me,
And so I didn't like that and I didn't like,
you know, I didn't like Rory's first I was okay
with the last fifteen seconds of what he said, but
the first fifteen second, We're trying to win a golf
to no, dude, Guys talk in majors all the time
and still say focus and still, I mean, you don't
(28:14):
have to go like full on, I'm going to ignore
this other guy, play mind games with him. By not
saying a word to him, you can still be cordial
and be in his twosome ers threesome.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Well, I I did. I told you.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
I did talk to one guy that I know that
has played in majors and golf tournaments before, and he says,
when when two players are going at it for a title,
it's not uncommon where they would not talk to each
other like that.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
That's nothing new.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Right, But it sounded like Rory played the ignore game.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
There's a difference in not talking to somebody, Yeah, and
then like if you're being addressed, you're just ignoring them,
And that's almost it sound like what Rory did.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Let's they're they're definitely sounded like there's a little bit
of animals there towards Bryson from Rory and I don't
blame Bryson for having a little bit of animosity towards him,
because when the whole lift thing started, I mean, he's
not as outspoken as he was, you know.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Two years ago, but Rory was the leader.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
I mean, he was shooting his mouth off to everybody
who would listen about to live guys, and then Bryson
was one of the first guys to go over there. So,
I mean, human nature is not surprising at all that
there's a little bit of friction between those two guys.
All right, let's get one more before the break. Hey, Dick,
did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 2 (29:30):
What's that? What's that?
Speaker 8 (29:31):
Dick?
Speaker 1 (29:32):
On part of the Interruption this week on ESPN, Tony
Kornheiser talking about Pete Rose's Hall of Fame eligibility and
why he will have a hard time actually getting in.
Speaker 10 (29:41):
Rob Manford does not put you in the Hall of Fame.
The Baseball writers who are members put you in the
Hall of Fame. Those baseball writers, as we know well,
are guardians of the game. They take violations very seriously.
Joe Jackson fixed games, okay, Pete Rose bet on game
as a manager of one team that doesn't go away.
(30:03):
You know what else is eligible for the Hall of
Fame right now? Barry Bonds is eligible, Mark McGuire is eligible,
Sammy so so Roger. They're eligible. Are they getting in
anytime soon? Doesn't look that way from the voting. I
agree that when your life is gone, it's okay to
be eligible for something. But I do not see Pete
Rose as a first ballot Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
I just don't, Okay, I disagree with him.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
That's fine. Again, I think it's pretty simple. You know,
we're talking about honoring the player, not the person. The
player not the person. Okay, you want to you want
to keep these guys band from dealing with clubs and
interacting with players and having access to information that most
people aren't privy to.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
I totally understand that.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
But like I told Larry on Wednesday, I feel like
the Hall of Fame and this will come down to
a committee. By the way Larry explained that, I thought,
great on Wednesday, this is not going to be a
traditional vote for people Rose and Joe Jackson. I'll have
to go on this committee and it's not going to
meet for three more years, right for crying out loud.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
So it's it's it's it's really up to twelve people.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Now if Pete Rose and Joe Jackson make the Hall
of Fame, but you put him in the Hall of Fame,
and you acknowledge the incredible talent as a player, and
then on the plaque you inscribe bang for life for
betting on baseball period.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
That's right, that's right, and you just include I mean,
Ty Cobb's in the Hall of Fame, right, right, right, boy,
ty Cobb.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
You ever seen the biography of Ty Cobb?
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I mean, yeah, there's also a lot of people that
dispute that, by the way, Okay, that's that's actually a
good read. There's a lot of people that don't think
he was as big a racist as he's portrayed to be.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
But he was not a great guy. I mean, is there.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Is there a scale of racism you can't be?
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Yeah, I mean absolutely can you'd be a free even
not a seven Well, sure, sure you can't. You can
slip up and say something stupid one day, and you
can maybe live your life every day and have hate
in your heart.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
And I don't have no idea what ty Cob was
all about.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
The image of Ty Cobb that I have is a
just absolute blatant did who acted every day with hate
and bigotry in his heart.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
And I don't know if I don't know if that's
fair enough.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
That's I'm just saying that there's an understand that and
there's been stories have been written about him that maybe
a lot of that's been overblown, but the point is
well taken, is that there's people that are in the
Hall of Fame. O. J. Simpsons in Kanton, Ohio, he
killed two people.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
I mean again, you're just cherry picking what history you
want to represent and and acknowledge and what you don't,
and I.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Don't like it. I think you put both guys.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
If the player belongs in the Hall of Fame, you
put them in the Hall of Fame, and then you
tell their story with the good and the bad. All Right,
we're gonna break our bracket, our Friday bracket. We're gonna
discuss our favorite non Seattle sports moment of all time,
and there's a lot of them. Baby coming up on
